REVIEWS OF The Library Restaurant IN Midland

Excellent Atmosphere and food is delicious. Staff are excellent! Try it out!

The reviews and photos lead us to expect more. My understanding is that they used to be in the old library building, which would have been a much nicer atmosphere. They are now in the lobby of the Quality Inn. The cloud of chlorine that greets you upon arrival and the dirty bathrooms on the lower corridor heading to the pool set a low bar. The service was polite but slow. For a "casual fine dinning" establishment I would have expected much more. Two glasses of wine, one app, and two of the lower cost entries (chicken and pasta) cost $84+tip. The Alfredo was below average at best. The sauce was watery, the noodles over done, and the chicken was one the overdone and tough side. The Chicken Supreme was a bit better, but the menu neglected to mention that it was breaded. Desert was cancelled after ordering it and then waiting 15 min without anyone showing up. About the quality one might expect from a restaurant in Quality Inn lobby, but nowhere near the casual fine dinning establishment the advertise for an evening out.

Tasty food. Decent service. Dark though, and not a super welcoming atmosphere.

Kaitlyn Scheld

Wonderful experience. Music on the loud side, making for a generally loud evening but the food is so so good!

Ok

A taste of the area. Even being celiac didn't hinder the service or food. A very enjoyable evening.

Laura Mills

Cool old building. I have tired the duck, the steak, the pan fried banana bread. Everything I try here is amazing

Frank Del

Very surprising experience. The staff is very attentive and responsive. I had the Hearvest salad and Atlantic Salmon, what a wonderful, tasty meal! Definitely going back. Highly recommend a visit. In my opinion, this is one of the best fine dining, casual dress restaurants for many miles!

Hans Mayer

Jake Graham

Very reasonably priced, upscale and creative meals with an ever-updating menu with fresh specials added daily.

This restaurant is NOT in a historic building, it is located inside the Quality Inn Hotel. It gets zero for ambiance but all was not lost, the food was delicious!

Tina Balmer

Casual atmosphere with fine dining quality food. We had the White Pear Sangria very yummy. I had the Library Steak which was melt in your mouth amazing. My husband was very happy with his 2oz Ribeye with twice baked potato. For dessert we shared the fried banana bread with salted caramel sauce, fresh strawberries and vanilla ice cream, so yummy we should have ordered two. Service was a little slow but we didn't mind because we were there to relax and enjoy our time together with great food. Will definitely return.

Jim Lowe

(Translated) Cozy restaurant with good food, but with a rather bizarre tendency to accentuate the sweet registers. (Original) Gezellig restaurant met lekker eten, maar met een nogal bizarre neiging om het zoete registeren te over accentueren.

Tuesday tasting menu has been good, unfortunately the restaurant is very noisy. No atmosphere.

The food was excellent but unfortunately the environment is dark (no windows), the decor is bad quality paintings, and nondescript furniture, but the worst part, the part that will prevent me from coming back in spite of the excellent gastronomy, is the smell. Super strong swimming pool bleech, and heavily scented desinfectant (signature Quality Inn) :-( The waitress worked also very hard although they could have gotten a few more staff to run things smoothly. Excellent work from the Chef Kaitlin Brown.

7-Course Christmas Tasting Menu, the best was the Creamy Butternut Squash & Parsnip Soup with Cinnamon Poached Pear. The Shaved Prime Rib Dinner was a bit grisly, the Yorkshire Pudding was ice cold. Garlic Mashed Potatoes & Sautéed Green Beans only got 2 green beans. The rest of the dishes not worth mentioning. The dining room a bit dingy. One waitress complained the these tastings are a lot of work. Over all the best thing about this was the musician. Also ate at the old location. Although we were one of two tables being served, service was slow, and the waitress forgot my wine order and my desert order. Will not be eating here again.

Even though there were only 10 books stacked almost out of sight on a shelf, this restaurant deserves 2 thumbs way up. Food was super delicious, well-presented and the price was very reasonable. What else could you want-- other than a few more books!

We recently moved to Midland from Merrickville, near Ottawa, and had visitors from that area for the weekend. We started to have fun with Nicole, our server, right from the start. She was amazing as was the food. We would definitely eat there again, but only if we can get Nicole to serve us. Thanks for the fun night and great food. From "The Nice People".

Deborah Ferguson

offered a 7 course meal with live music. If you prepay the price is $30 per person if not it is $35 per person. Have any of you prepaid for a restaurant meal before????? ???? Gave them a second chance a very disappointing New Years Eve experience. Never got a response from anyone one my feed back. Probably will not be back.

Martin Pennings

I drive 3 hours/day to work in this community. I often work quite late, thus went to this restaurant on a Thursday night to get a good meal before my long drive home. I have two jobs and a child under 18. I am only 53 and I don't have dementia. The otherwise outstanding waitstaff began to use "elderspeak" on me, using a sing song voice, simple sentences, baby talk such as inappropriate terms of endearment calling me "my dear" and "dearie"; using "we" in slow simple sentences such as "do WE want more wine dearie"... I don't know if he wanted more wine, but I didn't finish my wine or my meal. When I told him my name and asked him to call me by name and explained that I still work and function; to his credit he did speak with me as an equal adult. However when I spoke of retiring in approx. 15years time, he did mention "the last few days of life"... I hope I'd still have another 5 or 10 years after the fateful event of retirement LOL....When I stayed at the hotel where the restaurant is located, I did notice some of the (other) clients are people with some grey hair. In fact, a male approx. my age was being served politely, and spoken to with normal sentences as an equal adult, so they can't say that they treat everyone the cruel way I was treated. So for the sake of their business, they might wish to educate their staff not to use "elderspeak" (esp. not to use it on older women while serving older men as equal people). Elderspeak is basically baby talk for older adults! I'm not in a nursing home yet LOL and even if I were, its not right!! I'm posting this review to help others be treated better than I was, I won't go back!! (see below) Elderspeak: Babytalk Directed at Older Adults by Karen Austin, ChangingAging Contributor [Editor’s Note: Originally posted at The Generation Above Me, poster's note: the "I" in the article is Ms. Austin", not the poster of the review)] About a year after I started volunteering at a skilled nursing home, I observed a set of new teenaged volunteers who came to help with a craft at the monthly meeting of the Red Hat Society. I heard several of the volunteers speak slowly and loudly, using a sing-song voice. In response, I saw many of the residents roll their eyes. Unfortunately, I had flashbacks to when I also first started as a volunteer. I altered my speech inappropriately as well, hoping to be supportive but coming off as patronizing instead. I have since learned to identify the features of elderspeak. More importantly, I’ve learned to change my attitude. At its core, elderspeak communicates a condescending attitude. And from that attitude the person’s language might demonstrate the following features of elderspeak: Speaking slowly Speaking loudly Using a sing-song voice Inflecting statements to sound like a question Using the pronouns “we,” “us,” and “our” in place of “you.”: “How are we doing today?” Using pet names such as “sweetheart,” “dearie,” or “honey” Shortening sentences Simplifying syntax (sentence structure) Simplifying vocabulary Repeating statements or questions Answering questions for the older adult: “You would like your lunch now, wouldn’t you?” In other ways talking for the older adult: “You are having a good time on the patio today, I see. And you have your pink sweater on, which you love. Right?” Asking people questions that assume role loss, idleness and powerlessness such as “Who did you used to be?” “What did you used to do?”

As usual the food and service was great. Wine overpriced.

Library is another little secret restaurant in Midland inside of the hotel that you need to try! We went there for dinner tasting on Tuesday and was fun! Good job Justin and your team in the kicthen and Elyse was our lovely server. And also they do lots of events happening all the time on their event room - weddings or any event that you are looking to host

randy kincaide

Food was great.!! Service was exceptional

Teresa Arbon

Food was good. Ambiance and decor are bland. Service was great.

Peter Koudounis

I cautiously try to choose new meals, sometimes I may be too picky. I must say, the food was excellent and did not disappoint! The whole family was impressed. We passed samples around from each dish, Wow! Just wow! I never would have expected such a delightful, creative and flavourful dishes from a restaurant located in a hotel. Give it an honest try, they won't leave you disappointed.

Pooja Mathur

Uninspiring

Sue B

Great quality food!!

Gina Chapman

Food was great not everything on menu was available disappointed

Chelsea Rainford

Honestly, this is the best restaurant I have ever been to. The staff was great, the ambience was great, the food was amazing. I definitely overate but everything tasted so good that I didn't regret it. It's a pity that I live so far from this place. If I'm ever back in Midland, this restaurant will be my first stop.

Roxanne Baker

Excellent food and staff were terrific

Carl Boyes

Just finished eating and it was amazing. My wife had the chicken supreme while I enjoyed the baby liver which was so tender it melted in my mouth. The garlic mashed potatoes were delicious and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. Great service and warm and inviting atmosphere. Highly recommend and will return. We have been in Midland since Monday and this has been the best meal we have enjoyed so far.

Alessandro Quafisi

This place is slightly overrated. It’s actually in a hotel. The menu was old fashioned and boring. It was hard to pick something because nothing was really appealing. The dish I ordered was pretty good but, the best part of the menu was the mashed potatoes.

Dirk Menzel (Blende51)

Within the scope of our round trip through the eastern parts Canada we came to Midland . This restaurant was recommended by a bank Clerk ... so we tied it out. Very friendly staff, who gave us enough time to translate the menu. Our diner was very yummy - good variety of wine and beer. Appropriate price-performance ratio. It's a pity that we stayed just one day in Midland.

Moira Mcintosh

The food was amazing as was the price for all we got to eat The staff were friendly and very efficient. We were not rushed and thourly enjoyed our time.We highly recommend The Library Restaurant

Marc Venturi

Excellent service and great food. What else do you want.

April

They have a fantastic changing tasting menu available that runs twice a month. Location is decent, however would have preferred them to remain downtown Midland.

Roy Smith

if you want to sit in a dark cave -this is right for you. No ambiente nothing. Food for the quality and service overpriced. Portions very small. They try to make as a "noble restaurant" but cannot fulfill. We do not recommend this place.

Tim Ad

If you want salad (we got both) with rotting leaves - order here. Photo included. Disgusted.

Teri Lancaster

The tastings are a wonderful experience of enjoying different foods at a reasonable price.

Kelly Adams

Yum, yum, yum. Their Tuesday 7 course dinners are fabulous!

Enette Pauze

Big Fish

Great food, fair prices, friendly staff. I highly recommend it.

Geoff Ryerson

Great meal

kyle gignac

The cevichi and avacado salad would have been better served with a more flavorful marinade, a diced scallop and a ripe avacado. The winter salad with crisp brie had beautiful crisp greens and a lovely savory dressing but the breading on the brie had too much of a resemblance to a fish stick. The escargot was almost spot on! The sauce was only slightly under seasoned and a little more mushroom would have gone a long way. The duck breast was cooked perfectly but even a little sauce would have really made the dish complete . The rack of lamb was cooked perfectly as well but the sauce could have been reduced a little more to fully mature it's flavor. The prices are excellent. The service was ok. The food was good but not great.

i would highly reccomend this restaurant to every one. was amazing food and service!!!
