Peaceful in the mornings but not worth it to come for long studying hours to prepare for exams. Most of the time there’s interruptions with kids passing by and the opening hours are way too short. Useful for High school students but not for adults at all...

I had a take-out coffee on the way like every time I go to the library. I go upstairs to the adult book section and there, the boss of the library (who is usually courteous and "gaga" of my baby) tells me that I can't come home with my coffee .... I tell him explains that this is not the first time, but apparently it would require an airtight container to have the "right" to enter this so sacred place ... Because I would risk spilling coffee on their documents (it can be understood) I tell him then that I will just choose a book and leave like that no risk that I spill coffee on a table ...... This man has found no other solution than to direct me to the exit .... With a "sorry for your baby" .... The final sentence has finished disappointing me! From now on I would take my books online or else I would go to another library ..... Anyway considering the kindness of the snow coast librarians who don't even say hello when we greet them I don't lose anything apart from the only quiet place near my house where I take refuge for free to offer calm to my daughter during the works ..... Thank you to this great man .... (Original) Il y a des travaux dans mon immeuble qui cause un bruit insupportable pour mon bébé de 5 mois. Je décide alors d'aller à la bibliothèque afin d'être au calme et pouvoir lui donner son boire sur place. J'ai pris un café à emporté sur le chemin comme à chaque fois que je me rend à la bibliothèque. Je monte l'étage de la section livre adultes et là, le boss de la bibliothèque (qui d'habitude est courtois et "gaga" de mon bébé) me dit que je ne peux pas rentrer avec mon café.... Je lui explique que ce n'est pas la première fois,mais apparemment il faudrait un contenant hermétique pour avoir le "droit" de pénétrer dans ce lieu si sacré ... Car je risquerait de renverser du café sur leurs documents (ça peut se comprendre) je lui dit alors que je vais juste choisir un livre et partir comme ça pas de risque que je renverse du café à une table...... Cet homme n'a pas trouvé d'autre solution que de me diriger vers la sortie.... Avec un "désolé pour votre bébé".... La phrase finale a terminé de me décevoir! Dorénavant je prendrais mes livres en ligne ou bien j'irais à une autre bibliothèque..... De toute manière vu l'amabilité des bibliothèquaires de côte des neiges qui ne disent même pas bonjour quand on les salue je ne perd rien mise à part le seul lieu calme à proximité de chez moi oú je jais le réfugier gratuitement pour offrir du calme à ma fille durant les travaux..... Merci à ce grand monsieur....

Il ne fait pas de sens que pour retourner des livres jeunesse, les familles (parfois avec poussette) doivent descendre d'un étage ou prendre l'ascenseur. On ne propose pas de comptoir de retour au RDC, alors que les employés ont accès à des chariots! Pas pratique du tout.

I am surprised that I never reviewed this library and not sure why I never went to it before I had children. It is amazing to see how libraries have evolved since I was young, you can get a lot more than books and there are a lot of activities all year round. One great part is that with a membership at one Montreal library you get access to them all and can reserve books online that are sent to the library of your choice for pickup. The self checkout, online renewals and allotment of up to 40 items are all excellent. They also have DVDs, board game to play on site, computers and magazines. I much prefer to read my magazine on paper versus on my phone, although books I prefer to read on an e-reader and sadly there is no Kindle support in Canada (making me lean towards a Kobo for my next e-reader). With your membership you can also rent audio books through an app. Now I come all the time and my kid loves all the variety of books we have.

The first thing I do when I move to a new place is to check out the public library. This library is wonderful, rather spacious for a community library, with a nice selection of English and French books and a good selection of DVD's that are pretty new. They have a lot of comics and graphic novels as well, mostly in french translation. The cultural center next door has frequent events, concerts, art displays etc that are free. And the staff is extremely helpful, they will track anything down for you and reserve it if they don't have it.
