A standard for what modern a library should provide. Limited selection but if you go online and order a day ahead they can bring from all the libraries in the KW. A bit noisy to work in the main entrance but lots of smaller desks in the back area.

KPL is a top-tier library. They offer a huge variety of services to patrons including 3D-printing and instrument loans. KPL is a great place to work with a quiet, bright environment, open spaces, and a reasonably-priced cafe on the first floor for your snacking needs.

One of the best places in Kitchener. The cafe is a great addition and the kids love the cookies. There are still plenty of quiet places to hide out and study so I don't understand the negative reviews. We treat the library like a reward for our children and often go on weekends to read books, play games or watch a movie. Great job Kitchener.

What an amazing place to be- I went there because I had to print a paper quite urgent and I didn’t have a library card as I moved recently here. The lady their was so cooperative, not only she let me print the paper but I didn’t have $ 0.30 because I thought I can pay through debit. That lady paid for me I guess because I got the print... so thankful to her and everybody who works there.

Great free programs here. I attended two workshops on getting started in podcast production that were excellent and led by very knowledgeable presenters. Also love the cafe location at the library. If you haven't been to the library for awhile, you owe it to yourself to visit and see all the new services and programs.

JusTinaLane

The library is a great place for kids. My kids go almost everyday after school. There are many programs and they especially love the vurtual reality.

Im The Devil

Great as long as you aren't using computers. I spent an hour typing up my essay for school and then I couldnt save or upload it onto my USB stick because the computer had weird privacy setting saying that it couldn't connect to any memory devices without a staff password. I couldnt find any staff members around and while I was looking for someone to help me, my computer session timed out and I lost all my work. I will NEVER try to use their computers again because it's not worth the stress.

Best library in the country! I worked at Oakville Public Library for a few years in the early '80's and have been in MANY libraries - this one remains my favourite. I did lectures here on women and psychic ability that were well attended and posted in the KW Record.

This has been my go-to place for borrowing books, job searching, watching movies, and learning new things since I arrived in the Region in November 2013. The staff is amazing and the general layout of the place is bright, well-designed, and open. If I had one criticism, a minor one, it would be security patrols. KPL has done some improvements in dealing with troublemakers since August. I realize there's no perfect one-size-fits-all solution. It's a tough balancing act: you want everyone to feel welcome, especially the most vulnerable members of society, but sometimes said vulnerable members of society have inner demons to deal with.

So many crack heads. Not a good place to take the family in the evening. Stay away!! Total anarchy!! Feel sorry for the staff.

I've never seen such a large, well-stocked library in my life. There are two floors, multiple study rooms, 3D printers (!), musical instruments for rent (!!), a virtual reality station, and numerous computers (both desktop & Chromebooks for use at the library). With the wide selection of resources I'd definitely recommend getting a library card here, especially because you can use the card at other Kitchener library locations.

Mustafa M. Mustafa

A great Library, close to the town center with a decent book, magazine and newspaper collection. They also have an eLibrary service with a wide collection of ebooks. A nice pleasant small coffee stand with an adequate options of pastries etc, and ofcourse coffee and tea. The building itself offers lots of natural light and open spaces, large windows with a pleasant view of residential streets, and a second floor that is somewhat more quiet.

Tolulope Adeleke

I love the art Area, you can paint!and I feel happy anytime I go to lol.

They offer a lot of free services to the public. They're willing to help out if you wish for them to assist you. It's a very chilled out place and I spent many times here just using the free WiFi, reading books or simply taking advantage of the free resources they have for us to use. Highly recommended.

An amazing place for studying and meeting with people! Great staff and quality of the working space. I'll leave a 4 just because the Cafe on the 1st floor is a little overpriced and the AC in summer works too well - can be cold at times... Other than that - the best place to study in DT Kitchener.

Molly Farquhar

I love that this place has a coffee counter! It makes for a great place to work, especially with so much natural lighting. I do, however, reeeeally wish they would be more diligent at keeping quiet spaces quiet. Last time I was there two women were full on facetiming in the stacks. I hate having to ask people to be quiet every five minutes. Please, librarians, check the quiet areas and make sure people are abiding by the noise levels. Thanks!

Beautifully-designed downtown library with everything you could imagine: a café, movies and audio books to rent, and even a 3D printer that's free to use. Tons of children's books and lots of activities for all ages.

Great library and location. I enjoy their programs and activities. I am very saddened that one of the staff moved to the poineer park location. She was so resourceful for fun activities and crafts to do with my little man. I miss coming in and doing in person programs and activities but a lot has changed everywhere because of covud 19. I really hope that we get the programs up and going again in time. I also enjoy the Cafe and music playing. I enjoyed coming for curb and carry.

Since getting a free membership at KPL, I have been amazed at the different services it provides. For a city of this size, the variety of things on offer is incredible. I enjoy using the 3D printers, and have seen a range of people from children to older adults make use of them. They take some time to print things, as all 3D printers do, but there are other things to take up your time while you wait. My first experience with a Virtual Reality headset was at KPL- it took fruit ninja to another level! It made for a fascinating experience. The selection of books and movies on offer is good for the size of the location, and their partnerships with other libraries mean they can order in requested books. (I'm not sure if this is still offered, but they can direct you to the right place, at any rate) The staff have always been pleasant and knowledgeable, and I would recommend it for anyone seeking to improve their english skills.

Jason Cheng

Extremely friendly, and the design and technology is amazing. When I visited for the first time, I was amazed by the friendly staff and the bright interior. There are things galore to do here- 3d printing, VR, computers, public events, and so much more. I couldn't even get through half of the things available in 2 hours! Very proud to have this amazing library in my city.

Ebooks are riddled with DRM and are overly complicated to get working with devices I wish to use. If you have to explain your user interface it's a bad one. This place is paid for with Tax dollars and they're overtly opposed to community projects where you can provide free education to members of the community. The staff at the front desk were polite but when it came down to speaking to Gale about a space to do a talk she was very rude. Gale cut me off mid sentence and apologized and despite not being forgiven for interrupting she kept on going. I wasn't even finished my thought and repeatedly she would cut me off and be rude with her response. It's incredible how hostile people can be these days, if you hate your job that much make room for someone who isn't miserable so they can actually work on helping the community not making people regret even reaching out. After this experience I really don't feel badly that Amazon is choking institutions like this out of existence.

Kind staff, accessible entry, seating, and washrooms (including gender neutral). I bring my service animal here and never have issues. Great selection of books, audiobooks, community resources, music, online databases, instrument rentals, and community events. There is a theatre and art gallery in the basement. There are study rooms that can be booked, and rooms in the basement that can be rented for events. The architecture is beautiful and the space is centered around art. I love coming here, and am so pleased to live nearby.

The Kitchener Public Library is an incredible place, one I am very grateful to have in our community. The space itself is spacious, clean, and high-end. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. There are even "study rooms", which are rooms you can simply ask to sit in by yourself and work. The chairs are comfy, there's power and wi-fi, and even a lovely coffee shop if you get peckish. I could not ask for more from a local library. A wonderful space, and one that I hope will keep thriving in years to come.

Boy do I love libraries, and the central branch of the KPL is a great one! It's recently had a large renovation and the result is a bright building housing so much more than books. There's a theatre in the basement where they screen free movies regularly, a maker-space/digital studio, a great coffee bar, and an amazing children's section just to name some of the resources. They have excellent planning for people of all ages, and also free concerts in the beautiful main lobby space. It is such a warm, comfortable, and welcoming space, plus, BOOKS!!! The librarians are pretty wonderful too.

I love the KPL. I have always found great books and resources for school and personal projects here as well at other branches. The new renovations are beautiful but I can not condone the cafe that they placed in the middle of the library. I used to come here for a quiet place to concentrate and now there are customers loudly talking to the attendants and running coffee grinders in the main seating area. I thought this was a library, not a cafe.

I used to love going here all the time. The library is beautiful and the staff are so helpful. But recently, the library just didn't feel safe. I smelled weed in the bathroom and near the study rooms. I saw a guy with a cigarette (?) in his mouth. There were guys who were acting weird and made me feel uncomfortable leaving my laptop plugged in while I use the bathroom. There was also this guy who was just shouting angrily for no reason. I even saw a guy getting arrested! I wish that they could add security cameras or have roving security people to make the library feel safe again. I just think that the library should be a safe space for people who want to study or read books.

It has changed since went last; so it's been awhile... Glad I dropped in. Still a bit perturbed about a book that had read; in 2015. It was returned the way I got it. My Card had to be updated and found out the book that was returned was not in good shape. Huh? I remember exactly, I returned the book in front of the Library; the disposal drop off area. It was in mint condition when dropped off. I had to pay for something I clearly did not do. Im one if did, I would have brought it in and said something. Check the way your books are dropped off in that disposal area. It's the principle, the supervisor dropped the amount, but still payed for something that I did not do. Geeze Truth is the only way I live! Hard to forget that read. 2019- gotta change someday soon, really.

Kitchener Public Library is an amazing place. It is truly the heart of Kitchener. A pot of gold for any age, race, religion etc... ALL staff go out of their way to help and provide for our community. Teenagers to seniors, programmes are out of this world. Borrow a book, a tablet, a guitar, a free pass for museums in the region ...Great speakers come here. Prime Minister Joe Clark came here for a lecture, no kidding. I am so proud of all that is KPL that I bring my out of town friends and relatives here. They are mesmerized by all the activities and the art displayed and or presented. A non repressive environment where toddlers walk around , seniors rest, homeless feel welcome, easy handicap access, safety and security is always number one and I can go on and on. Nice theatre for free movies. Concerts , Art displays, music, coffee shop, you name it KPL has it. Tech tutor night is one of the most essential programme. Most of all though, are all the behind the scenes geniuses who make all of that happen for us. Bravo to all board members for their vision into the future. Next time you visit make sure you tell the staff how much they are appreciated and how their work is much appreciated. I love my library. It has become a beacon of light and this light shines for everybody. I sometimes believe that they cannot do better, but each time they surprise me and come up with some new and big surprise and prove me wrong. It is an adventure. Please go find out by yourself!! Moto could be: KPL Is The Heart and Soul of my City.

I love the KPL! Lots of books, very helpful staff. I love that if you need to rent a laptop, you can and find a quiet area or study room to work on your school assignments/essays. You can use any of their computers. Returns are super easy now. I really love that they have a kids section, full of toys, books and even the possibility to rent a tablet for your kids. The kids area looks cleaned and maintained daily, there are even family washrooms for family convenience! If you haven't been there to check out the children's section you must!
