The Winnipeg Millennium Library is one of the hidden gems of Winnipeg. Located in the heart of downtown Winnipeg, it's modern building is wall to wall literary enjoyment. All of this I'd packed inside a very nice 4-story building with plenty of natural light.

Great services

You have to walk through a metal detector, have your bag searched & body scanned to get in. Once in it’s really spacious & quiet. No free parking - downstairs parkade is $12

Everyone is great...always willing to help!

please stop allowing unsanitary homeless ppl into this space, especially when theres a pandemic floating around. get it together millenium library

A great spot to unwind in downtown Winnipeg. Get a book and relax. They will soon reopen after the Covid pandemic has shut them down for all but book pickup services

Went twice They Need more helpers...

Spacious..easy to locate..the library has a lot of materials, ranging from law to political science yo health and comic books...its has four foors and it was easy to get my library card(5mins)..the library workers are polite and they are all helpful..its a serene and lovely place to read...its located in the heart of Winnipeg (Downtown ) and it is one of the largest in Canada ...

My escape

I've called the library when I arrived to pick up books on hold and was told the books will be ready in 10-15 min. They asked for my library card number and first name. Books pick up is in the library and staff is handing out the books. Staff on the phone and in the library was helpful and friendly. Book return (book chute) is on the right side of the building, contactless.

This is my most favorite place in Winnipeg.

Large supply of ???? and other things like ????, magazines, for people of all ages. Staff very helpful and polite. I now go 3 to 4 times a week.

Great interior environment. TONS of material. It can be a bit too loud if you're looking to do any serious work though.

Since the new security features, many security staff are impersonable, rude and militant bar one extreamely kind and gently spoken older lady with short white hair. While many security staff have always been this way, the check-in area adds a new layer of persecution to their already angry and seemingly hateful ways

This library has so much space to work or read in - the staff are very friendly and helpful. In the summer the park behind it is lovely! There's a huge amount of material available here, and they'll transfer things in from the other branches for you. The new 3D printer looks really cool but I haven't tried it yet. There are lots of events at this location for children and adults.

Lots of reading

One of the best place to enjoy learning/reading new stuff. I never came accross such a beautiful facility either to the top ranked universities. Loved being there multiple times. You can rent a book, space, cds etc. This place is with the beautiful natural lights, balcony and outdoor garden. Conveniently located right beside a major bus stop.

Best and biggest Public library in Winnipeg. They have all sorts if books. Include Audi and Video. Great place to sit and do your study and even have a quite room.

Worst library with ignorant and repulsive Indian security guards looking for ways to spread their contaminated mindset to harass you upon arrival poking germs to your personal belonging. Complete waste of tax payer money to have this type of ignorant guards.

They have security like an airport to get near the books, this is a joke and no recent event can claim this is reasonable.

When I walked by it on the skyway, I thought it was a police station or something with the security. It was very uninviting from the bottom. The shelves were a little barren but the reading areas were nice.

Wonderful staff, huge selection and such a beautiful space! The ideaMill on the 3rd floor is incredible! Not sure why the other reviewer is offended by the fact that people with no access to computers are accessing community computers, but if you need em they are there as well as printing services and access to mental health resources.

Its close to where i live and i can get here through the sky walk.

I th6it was open, unfortunately not yet open for public use !!

I love coming to this library a lot. I has a very nice set of stairs leading to the top with seating on both sides for studying or reading or other things. The while library has a comforting modern feel to it rhat keeps me coming back time and time again. Even if you don't read it's still an impressive building.

Excellent place for students to study. Very neat and clean.

how could you say that too me,,,,

It's a lively library with lots going on, but I feel like the security lets the drunks and junkies do whatever they want. If you report someone harassing you or threaten you security just shrugs it off. There are tons of books with many genres and topics. It can be a bit daunting and you may not be able to find everything your looking for, since people don't put books back properly. The elevators have a tendency to stop working frequently, but it is accessible to all. There are plenty of places to sit. The comfy chairs absorb other people's stench. It can get a bit stinky in some places. The staff are accommodating. When I was looking for the history on a property I used to live, I didn't know where to start. The staff helped me through it all and seemed interested in what I was looking for.

Beautiful place. One of the beautiful gems in Winnipeg.

The library inside is huge bigger then the old one but it has less floors. The renos to the place are making it alot better in the long run.

It sucked

Excellent place, kids friendly and very helpful staff

The staff are absolutely fantastic, knowledge and very helpful. If you get a chance, use the stairs and not the elevator to get to the user floors. The windows provide for a great view and there are great photo opportunities when observing the supporting framework of the windows. The top floor is very quite for working or studying and the view provides for a very relaxing atmosphere. It's a far cry from the stuffy libraries of the past!

Enjoy my research trips here.

nice library!

Nice place to visit for peaceful environment while reading.

Good

Item were easily found, and self check-out made my visit quick. The library was very quiet and there was no personal interaction.

Been a while, due to covid mostly. The library is open and staffed, covid conditions in place. You do not have to provide POV but masks and distancing are enforced. Study desks are spread out and the tables have had all but 1 chair removed to keep social distancing. There is even a note suggesting you keep your visit short. A bit of a pity, they have always had some interesting art and temporary exhibits. Today there is some first nations related exhibits and a display of musical instruments you can actually borrow !! I like to browse the shelves in the area of my interest. Today's visit was to get some beginning books on leather working and some art research (looking into Constable at the moment) and as usual the library provided what I wanted. Getting there is usually easy. It is on the Graham transit corridor so lots of busses stop almost at the front door. I used to make a half day event to visit but there is a derth of places to get a cuppa and a bun right around the building and walking about right now is a pain due to construction and slush/ice. The coffee shop that was in the foyer is gone and some sort of new facility is going in, but it looks a long way from ready. I meant to check into the maker facilities but forgot to. If I get a chance I'll report on that separately.

Fun

this placed saved my life when i was homeless

Good place to study as compare to the university libraries. Best place if studying alone and need a quiet place.

Love this place. Huge book collection and fantastic environment for reading book.

Plenty of seating to study or read, and many different services apart from books are available. The staff is helpful and courteous. Overall it's a nice quiet place to get some work done.

Very nice ,clean and quiet place helpfull staff

From what I here it’s good I’m not a library guy but if u are check it out

I love spending a Saturday here in the quiet to read and relax. A safe place to study and there is always a free event to attend, I love the Tuesday night knitting group.

The staff I give 5 stars too. But the security is horrible I ask for help to find something I lost they didn't even help me or do anything also there was a drunk guy harassing me

Really love it here. I come here to read alot. And it's a nice quit place.

Lots of natural light, very helpful staff ,convenient downtown location (close to the mall and different restaurants). Its a wonderful place. Definitely recommend !

(Translated) Winnipeg in May is still very cold (Original) 五月的溫尼闢Winnipeg仍然很冷

great space with lots of natural light. very open space , excellent layout.

Great place

Great place to explore ideas, and learn.

Beautiful library with great staff!

Am I missing something? Where are all the books? The whole 4th floor is full of non-fiction but there are only a few half rows of fiction on the first floor before it turns into the children's area.

A great place for quiet reading and sometimes there is LIVE Music!!

love spending time in such a huge and comfortable place filled with books of huge diversity

nice place to study

The best place to study!

Beautiful architecture very comfortable and lots of space

You also can borrow some other language books, like Korean Japanese Chinese.. etc

Helpful staff and very nice to the kids that go there, a clean place and quiet and relaxing.

Gorgeous library with a lots of natural light and plenty of places to work. It's a bit confusing if you enter from the north side of the building but don't let that stop you from exploring this incredible library.

These days, I’m waiting for my bus in front of or across from the library. I mean, the audacity… (????)

Computer science books are limited and old.

Very nice library. The interior spaces are confortable. The access to books is easy and the staff is always ready to help. The exterior square (Millennium library park) is also a pleasent place.

Awesome place to read some books or just chill.

Beautiful downtown library with wonderful layout and lots of places to work and study.

Very relaxing

Love this place although it gets quite hot inside lol ???? The staff are really friendly. There's an underground parking ????

Love this place although it gets quite hot inside lol ???? The staff are really friendly. There's an underground parking ????

Excellent patronage, I love the scent of books...I just found out that the library lends out X Box games. Going to take advantage of the opportunity.

The Millennium Library is amazing looking on the inside and out. Very convenient as it's in downtown Winnipeg. It's a nice experience to sit down read a couple books and find some books you would like to check out.

Best public service in the city

It sucked

Fantastic library. Great place to go and study for university

A perfect place to be felt up by the staff.

It's a lively library with lots going on, but I feel like the security lets the drunks and junkies do whatever they want. Julianna in the Idea Mill is amazingly supportive & the technology available is incredible. I was truly awed by the experience in the greatest of ways. I'm really looking forward to utilizing all of the services offered!

Quite easily the best Library in the city!

Beautiful Library..Tons of natural light..Great place to do work

I don’t know what is the problem of the person sitting at Winnipeg Transit service. He is not polite at all and he has a lot of attitude . I went there for reload my peggo . I went there for the very first time and I don’t like his voice at all. Hope management will eye on this comment . Thanks .

Loud the staff does nothing about the hicks laughing on the computers, or noisy people in general.

Best Library in town!

Great selection and even greater staff! Each visit better than the last for me.

biggest library I've ever been in. the selection of books is astronomical. interesting architecture. lots of computers. great library.

Millennium library definitely lives up to its name, Modern, comfortable ergonomic furniture and clean. Has a quiet room I enjoy for maximum concentration and no distractions. There are also tutoring rooms, fountains, clean washrooms, magazines, all you can read books etc.... And staff is always helpful and friendly.

gd

Great place to come study with spectacular view for the disks besides the window. Only unsatisfied with the bathrooms' smell and the junkies who are annoying and disruptive.

The new security screenings have really elevated the vibe of this library. It's relieving to know you can now peruse the huge selection of books and other resources without being harassed or disturbed by people who are only there to cause trouble. Standing in a security line to have a bag checked is not fun, but I'll take that over being threatened or assaulted when I'm just trying to pick out some books. I'm very happy that the library has chosen to protect its employees and the 99% of the general public who want to use the library for its intended purposes.

Useless unenergetic staff. Basically just a place for homeless people to go on facebook. Need a shower after I leave.

Great summer programs for all ages. Free. Wonderful cool place to spend some time.

Books, books, magazines, cds, and more books. Used to be the Centennial library. I recommend the study carrels on the stairway.

The security measures in place will stop me from accessing this library. As a senior I feel its an intrusion. My son will now be taking his children to other librararies. We are finding it good to to visit other libraries in winnipeg. We feel that downtown may not be a safe place to go.

(Translated) Beautiful illusion of security at the entrance. (Original) Belle illusion de sécurité a l'entre.

Tons of topics to choose from.

The library has a nice welcoming flavour to it. Bright areas, calm areas and computer areas. The back side has lots of windows so you can see the courtyard and water art. There is plenty of room for sitting outside if you like, also. Too bad the people that use the library don't use the language section and learn how to spell such as Robert.

(Translated) Antiseptic. (Original) Anticeptic.

Used to come to the library often in my younger years. Have all the resources and information I needed to do research and homework. I miss those memories.

Excellent place for students to study. Very neat and clean.

Huge Library. I asked the librarian if my books I placed a hold on were on the shelf. She checked but did not find my book. I asked where it was located and found both books myself and self checked out. I gave 3 stars because the services are great at this location. Computers, study rooms, and the large selections. Its missing 2 stars because the librarian did not find the books i placed on hold and if i didn't ask myself where the books were located and to self check i would have wasted my time driving from the east end to downtown just to pick up the books that were specifically at this location. It is a weekend and so i urgently wanted the books.

Haven't been there in years. Only passed by

Excellent staff and facility. I applaud the library for wanting to keep its patrons safe and comfortable. Continue to screen for illegal substances and unwanted weapons in public places. What a wonderful library!

It's a real shame about the new security measures at this location. I will not be treated like a criminal and have my civil rights violated. I used to absolutely love coming here but not anymore sadly

Has just enough of the old rustic feeling of your favorite community library. Summers are simply beautiful!!!

So sad. I remember when this was built! Now it’s a bit of a dirty wasteland. The building is still beautiful. I wish I could go without feeling like I was sitting on gross dirty that someone else left bwhind.

Love coming here to use the computers to look up things or print out stuff. Reading the newspaper on the reading terrance.

Best place to study and do computer/internet research

1 hour use is not enough but I am glad library is open.

(Translated) Not bad, the environment is very good, learning is very good (Original) 还不错,环境挺好,学习很有感觉

Beautiful place! Very easy to get a library card and the building is very nice. A lot of chill areas to read and study.

4 strikes against .. no camera on bike rack had tire slashed .. the cleaners miss so much stuff .. had a problem with druged up loser asking for bus fair and I said no and she waned other if items of mine .. she grabbed my head phones and broke the wire to because she not getting what she thought was owed he this happend February 3,2015 at abut 8 pm no security showed up or any other staff and the dingbat asked me again for money when I was headed for bus

Quiet and pleasant s

Great, quite place for reading

Biggest library in the city

Fantastic elevator experience, will return.

Took photos for a wedding there - awesome!! And my daughters school sang there - really neat thing going on here

Wonderful!!! Big, bright, well organized and cheerfully staffed!

Beautiful modern building with a sparkling facade

For January 2017 only 3 cds (all by George Michaels) appear on the new CDS for January tab of the new CDs. Have phoned the librarians throughout the month and they all have the same excuse "That's all we ordered for the month of January-and they're all George Michaels" Really just get to the bottom of the problem and fix it. No one seems to know what's going on in this place. Great to have a government job where you don't have to do anything but make up excuses. Wouldn't happen in the private sector. Get it together!

An enjoyabe place to study and read

Heated parking for a winter visit!

Awesome stuff

The security blockade is barbaric. It's a library not an airport, everytime I take my daughter to the library we have to go through what amounts to customs at the border.

Superb library that offers so many services, resources, and free programming. Great building too with lots of places to sit and read, study, or relax (including outdoors too). Only downside is that I am not confident my bicycle would still be locked to the bike rack if I cycled to/from the library. Maybe? But I am not willing to take the chance. :(

Nice library. Lots of selection. Great kids area. You can use the computers, sign out books and movies and video games. They have musical and speaking performances sometimes. Added bonus is the parking underground is reasonable during downtown events at the MTS Centre.

Extremely sad that they now scan you when you go in. Transfer your holds somewhere else. They just lost quite a few customers ironically.

I just go here for the security pat downs because they leave me calm and relaxed, serene even.
