Image: The writer took an image of the main floor in the library. Where the two sides of the table have been blocked off with garbage bags. Leaving the other side open to anyone that wants to sit and study, or read.
However, for someone like me that has “anxiety” and needs to sit facing the entrance, and not the back wall. This setup is inaccessible. Afterwards, I spoke to the librarian and asked her if I could sit on the other side, she told me no. No accommodation was made for me. This creates a barrier for anyone that has a psychiatric disability. For the remaining time that I used the library I sat on a high chair that is uncomfortable for my leg that is in pain. Furthermore, I spoke to two library workers about this and I feel like they did not care about what I was trying to say. All of the other study areas in the library were occupied. These were the only two spots that were not occupied. Please, listen to people, and learn to accommodate anyone with a psychiatric disability, physical disability, or anxiety.
The same librarian then came up to me cleaning the tables and asked me if I was comfortable, and I said “no.” She then started laughing, I asked her why she was laughing at me. Then, I asked her if it's ok to laugh at someone that is uncomfortable. I’m a plus size woman, that has anxiety, and my knee is in pain. What makes you think that this situation is something to laugh about. Discrimination is real.
