Closed at 5 on a Friday, most people work during the day….Sunday closed as well. I think a change is needed. If you need something,try redcliff, their hours are user friendly.

Beautiful library. I visited with my 5 yo son and he loved the kids area. The play area is closed but surely it's a lot of fun when it's open. Everything very neat and lots and lots of space. Good collection, although I asked for some kids book in Spanish and they didn't have any. They offered me in french... Spanish and French are different languages :)

The MHPL is a great institution, and a cornerstone of the community. On top of the usual book and movie rentals, they organize get-togethers for youth and for adults, hold music recitals in the theater, among many other things. The staff is very friendly, and helpful as well.

Medicine Hat has one of the best libraries I have been to. It has a great selection of books and if they don't have the book you need on the shelves they are part of the "Short Grass Library System". This system allows you to order in books from surrounding libraries. The staff is very friendly and the building is quite nice. If you need a room for an event they rent out rooms for a very reasonable price. They have nice computers for the public to use and the printer is very high quality with both b+w and colour. Feels like a prairie sanctuary. Thanks MHPL !

Beautiful window looking over the river, chairs to get cozy in and charge, read, watch, nap.... always nice people and always have what I need or can get it soon! Also- accepting of our occasional extra noise-making days... but very quiet and tranquil all the same.

There is so much value packed into a library card! I use mine regularly to borrow books, to download ebooks and audiobooks, to read the Medicine Hat Newspaper and some of my favourite magazines, and I've even taken some online learning courses. All for only $5/year! Best deal in town!

I've entered the Medicine Hat Public Library without a mask on more than one occasion in the last year and have been once again been discriminated against and harassed by the employees downstairs at the desk concerning this even though I have a Mask Exemption Letter which by the way is a legal document. I was always allowed to stay until today. Yesterday was the first time I've had contact with Library Manager. He proceeded to point out certain requirements that are needed concerning Mask Exemption Letters. I myself have looked at the Alberta website concerning this and it would seem that he made up his own rules as he went along. He lied through his teeth saying that an exemption letter has to be from the same city you are currently in and this folks is the truth so help me God. He told me never to come back. If the board members of the Medicine Hat Public Library don't address this ignorance, people like this and others like him will continue to abuse their positions, disrespect and discriminate against anyone who doesn't conform to his ideals. Shame on the Medicine Hat Public Library for employing this type of discrimination. I have since been in contact with him and not once did I get an apology and they continue to lie about what was actually said in the meeting and refuse to take responsibility for their actions and the actions of their staff downstairs. He thought to remind me that he is in a position of privilege to which I laughed and reminded him that is in fact the problem with his way of thinking. Shameful indeed. They did however give me the option to write a letter and sit down with the Board of members. I have yet to make decision on that.
