This Library is included in the category of Public library.
Expanded new kids area. Not too much stuff for kids to do actually, but just a big open area.
Good
We love this place! Staff is super helpful and friendly.
Friendly staff. Social distancing in force. A great place to write my novel.
This is not playground for young kids it's a library for reading and working on paperwork this is why I love the library
One of my favourite library's in the city. Nice and secluded, great place to get some work done. Friendly staff. Does get a little noisy with the kids on the second floor, which isn't good when you are trying to study.
It's a great place to inspire learning especially if you are planning on bringing children with you.
Great place for kids. Gives me hope libraries will be around when my kids have kids.
It is great to have a public library for kids as well. Kids are kids an they also need to be able to read and have fun in a public library. Thanks for have this awsome spave for our kids
Great open spaces, interesting architecture with lots of books. Also a wonderful play space for the kids. As we left my kids said “that was super awesome!”
Fantastic establishment and well laid out. Great place to bring your kids with lots of organized, free activities for them to partake in!
The best library in the city I love the pyramid shape of it.
Excellent
This place has so many books, more than other library's.my ultimate favorite library
Always been an excellent Public Library. I can't say enough about it, and it's easy to tell people where it is: The Big White Pyramid.
Great building and well organized. Layout is spacious. The noise level is sometimes like being in the middle of a busy playground.
Great location with super helpful staff and lots of events for families.
The Pyramid has never let me down.
There's a cute boy that works here.
My fav library.
Calgary really invests properly for public library. Very nice building structure, next to cover parking, lots of books and reading areas. Staffs are friendly and helpful. My son played chess with other kids there!
This library was awesome The staff was very kind courteous and so helpful Thank you for your kindness
Great location, large selection and very helpful staff.
Staff are amazing but when did the library become a daycare for children to be running around, excessive screaming, and children running around freely. I am a parent so its not a rant about kids but from the time I was a grade 1 student the Library was a very well known QUIET ZONE! Well if you are up for screaming, crying, and running this is the place to be! BRING NOISE CANCELING HEAD PHONES!
Noisy. Library is becoming like a daycare.
Relaxed ambience
Should be called Fish Creek day care; I wouldn't come here if you have important tasks at hand that require focus, kids are constantly screaming and the library is renovated so it is an open space. Unfortunately, sound travels like crazy and the meeting room is usually booked up. Wouldn't recommend coming here.
Do not come here if you need a quiet place to study. Kids running through the facility, noisy as can be, screaming at the top of their lungs. What happened to the days of libraries being quiet places? I can see that the library has responded to all of these previous complaints with 'let a staff member know' but at some point, you would think they would take ownership of all the complaints saying the same thing and consider better solutions for this recurring complaint.
This library is such a blessing to our family. My daughter loves the second floor, which is dedicated to children. The massive play area is gorgeously appointed with reading area, gated baby and toddler area, building play stations, art tables, chalk board, among other amenities. The staff are great with the kids, and I have always found them to be very helpful and knowledgeable when I've needed help with a book or a printing issue. This is an amazing asset to our community. My family appreciates it wholeheartedly.
It's a really nice building , but Kids playing and talking . I went there to write an essay and I was getting frustrated . This library is actually a community centre in my opinion . And it does have one "quiet study" area which is reserved a lot of the time . The other study spaces have open ceilings due to the architecture which affords no sound insulation . Be prepared to share the airspace if your going for a quiet study . Great space , teach our kids to be considerate in the library and this place might work for everyone . I see the need to bring kids into the library with all the iPads and synthetic reality stuff . A little chirping and laughing is okay but running around screaming and talking across the isles is disruptive .
LOVE this library!! It’s always clean and usually have books that we have gone there for! My little one loves the play area and always looks forward to going. My oldest likes the teen section where there is computers available as well as some board games to play.
Mostly quiet, if you exclude the occasional children's noise every now and then. Clean and neat. Friendly staff. And the building looks so cool from the outside ???????? A good place for a quiet study.
It’s very good for children
This is a great library. There is an incredible variety of amazing spaces. The children's play area is excellent. It's big and there is a lot of variety of things to do. The bookshelves on all levels are well organized and inviting. The study area on the top floor is a large open area with a giant window. There is plenty more than what I've highlighted. I highly recommend this place.
The library is a haven for toddlers and young children who scream at the top of their lungs. There is no respite from their shrieks. They profilerate in the early afternoon and there is no escape. They often infiltrate the "quiet" study room to practice the art of disturbing adults. Furthermore, the library has been discovered by the homeless who bathe in the sink and smell of hand soap and human waste.
Great library. It a big one with a lot of books to choose from (so you don't have to order some in). There are three levels with areas to work, study or just read. This place can get pretty busy cause there's a lot of programs going on. They've got many programs for children on the second floor and adults ones going on all the time. Definitely go in and give this place a try. I went in to get one book and have been coming back ever since. The library system is a great resource for anyone and it's free!
Great friendly staff and our go to library location
nummey books , hot librarians what else could you want?
Wish I could access the wifi without a library card, came here to study
Always friendly staff, great space to meet with others and a great resource for people in Calgary
Spent way to much time here over the years. I love libraries, but being forced into dysfunction of shelters and poverty, to much of my life taken and wasted in them.
Fancy place
Great Library. My kids love the summer reading challenge every year.
Nice library, helpful and nice staff but a bad place to quietly study. They have events for kids and the noise is super loud.. every time.. One time they had a drumming lesson for kids and holly molly was it loud... Imagine 20 five year olds drumming and yelling all at once.. not quiet.. at all.. This is good for the community but not got for quiet study.
Can get really loud with all the kids running around.
Can be noisy with kids around, but bring headphones. Used this place for years and it serves me well!
It can get a little noisy, but it's still my favourite library in the city despite that because of all the artwork they hang up (and the piano before they removed it)
Great library but quite noisy! To the lady who thinks that the library is the perfect place to setup a mini call center, JUST STOP. PLEASE. I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN OR HEAR YOU! Anyways staff are pretty good.
This is a wonderful open concept library with tons of natural light! Right next to two Starbucks coffee places, just in case you need caffeine.
Usually a 5 out of 5 experience. I go often with my three kids as it is a great place to play and get a few books and science dvd's. The play area encourages imaginative play which is so important. Today however, I was rubbed the wrong way by one staff member. While she was doing her walk around tidying up the toys, & doing so in the baby/toddler area I was preventing my just turned one year old independent walker from leaving that area because he runs to the stage where he will climb and will fall. Keep in mind I have 3 kids. So I am trying to keep an eye on all of them. And she says "...how about you do something with him?" ... I ignored her because had I opened my mouth I would have been rude. You don't know what I had been doing for the twenty minutes prior to your arrival in the area. You certainly don't know my child. I was really put off by that condescending tone. I enjoy our visits there. I enjoy the helpful staff and the selection of books. But unless I or my kids are breaking the rules please don't try to tell me how to parent. I wanted him the age appropriate area so that I could play with him and not have to worry about him falling off the stage.
It’s a beautiful library, so much space, lots of good books and very clean and organised . Only thing I really hated was how loud it was. You can hear everything going on on all three floors where ever you’re sitting.
No books available ever.
Nice library. Has an area to come with kids to play and read.
fun building and good sized library. Dedicated levels for kids and study are very nice.
Beautiful library, staff are always willing to assist. Always extremely cold inside the library, guess the heating needs to be checked.
Would be great if it were quieter or more enclosed noise cancelling spaces
Was helped very efficiently and the staff were very friendly.
I've been coming to this library for 5 years now, it's really good for studying but too bad the staff is getting terrible. I asked to put my paper in the printer last week, and a young lady was happy to help me. When i asked an older lady today, she screamed "ABSOLUTELY NOT" and as I stated I was allowed last week, she started saying "EXCUSE ME, ABSOLUTELY NOT IN OUR LIBRARY." I was like alright, I was just stating a fact, and I walked away... She fricken followed me and harassed me all the way to the door, until I had to tell her leave me alone.
Don't know wasn't there
Definitely the most unique library in Calgary. It's quite large and there's plenty of space. Selection is one of the better one's in Calgary.
I like the building itself, the display and how the books are organized. The staff is really friendly and helpful. I’ve been there with my kids and they provide a whole variety for kids to entertain. However, I think the library is too noisy. I have tried to study, but unfortunately it’s not easy to focus with the kids screaming and running everywhere. I agree with the idea that the library should be a welcoming for everybody, but it’s should be mainly a library, it’s not a playground. There should empresa control over the kids activities, ask the parents or to try to maintain a quiet space and respect the people to wants to read or study.
Quiet, great place.
I would like to thank the two staff members who helped me navigate the Gov. of Canada website (on separate days) and to their further helping me to fill out the necessary forms. Outstanding patience demonstrated whilst I attempted (badly) navigating unfamiliar computers. Thank you both so much.
This is a terrific library because it caters to kids, needless to say, the future. My kids are happy going there, a child friendly place which I think is terrific as it helps promote their literacy. Had it been your typical uninviting, ultra-quiet place where children had to be hushed constantly, I can imagine them losing interest in books very quickly. It's hard enough to take kids away from computers, video games and other electronic devices and have them see the benefits a book offers and to have Fish Creek library invite kids with open arms is a tremendous step forward. Perhaps the older clientele ought to borrow the books and read them at a park or at the comfort of their homes? It is sad that people would complain about children attending a library. This isn't a church, kids shouldn't be made to be quiet. Do this and libraries will be as popular with kids as churches - not a wise move when competing against ipads and xboxes. Koodles for making this a fun place for kids.
Good curbside pickup. Nice library. Hope fully reopens soon.
Great architectural marble, looks like a modern pyramid from far away but inside has well distributed level and lots of light. Only con is the noise, too many kids shouting and no noise barrier between them and the study / reading area.
Booked a meeting room to have a quiet space to study. The room had no ceiling and the noise of the entire library seemed even louder in the room than outside it. It wasn't just children but adults too. Overall I felt that studying in a mall food court would have been quieter.
They have a new foot operated hand sanitizer-very kool if you're a child .lots of books friendly staff. Not crowded . Ian
Very quiet, comfortable place...
My childhood library. I liked it so much better before the renovations, but it's better than the newer Calgary libraries. RIP 2013. Edit: So many unnecessary unplanned renovations.
Fire. Heat. Smoldering. So many great books, nice layout and the artwork display. I genuinely think you would have an amazing time here.
I was so uncomfortable. Around 11:30AM, bunch of kids came and started to chat with their friend with loud voice, but was okay. After about half an hour their voice was raising as screaming and running around everywhere on the second floor. Even I was on the 3rd floor I was extremely interruped. So I came down and asked to one of staff on the scond floor about making loud of children supposed to be. She said YES as smiling. According to her explanation, In the ELCC center children supposed to be loud. I have a BIG question. Is the library for only children? kids need to socialize, play, and EDUCATION! I have been several other locations in calgary library and every library has a ELCC Center. BUT Nowhere was like this much mess. Library is for the community then those children need to learn how to respect others and act in the public place. I used to be a teacher so I totally understand the kids need to be loud. But screaming and running around in the public place is not respectful for others. I hope this issue will be considered seriously and make the facility more quiter place that everyone can enjoy while visiting the location.
I love the kids section, but I often feel bad for talking when I leave as a library used to be a quiet place.
Friendly staff. Lorna was very helpful. The library is a great resource. Books, movies and Bluerays
Do not come here to try to get anything productive done. This place has turned into a playground for children. What ever happened to a quiet library? I have been here twice in the past month, both times the "quiet study room" is closed for some baby and mom thing, and you can hear children screaming and crying throughout the rest of the library. Great for parents and kids, horrible for adults trying to do work or even read a book!
Great if you have kids. If you don't, pick a different branch.
Library is nice overall and very well built but good luck getting any work done here. It's basically built as a pyramid with the second floor reserved for kids as a "play area" - while I'm not against kids being in the library, this structure and the open insides means that the yelling, crying and screaming can be heard everywhere in the building. The "study" rooms provided have an open roof so they actually end up amplifying the noises upstairs. They really need better soundproofing/structure enhancements to make this place usable to people who'd like to get work done. Families and young children already have many places where they can go - we readers only have a few. It's a shame how this wonderful library has been utterly ruined.
Nice friendly and knowledgeable people attending. You find a huge variety literature there, easy to find and comfortable place to sit and have a moment reading a good book
Health systems in place and glad to have the staff back and the library open. Safe to attend.
Big open spaces and it's still pretty quiet on the lower level.
Good place to go
Too much noise, kids crying and screaming. Hard to concentrate for serious studies. Inadequate quite rooms and usually unavailable because people are having meeting programs there. Nice building though, it should be made more study friendly rather than a community centre.
Staff very helpful! Thanks
It was a great opportunity to get ESL lessons in this library. It is a great library, with a place for kids. The staff is good, especially the one responsible for the ESL lessons.
Very helpful staff and great decorum
Unique architecture. Friendly helpful staff. Who can say anything bad about a library?
Love the contest there
Fish Creek is amazing for kids! There's so many areas for them to play and lots of neat toys.
Great place for kids
Nice library and staff. Don't expect to study or concentrate as the kid's area is loud and can be heard everywhere.
Excellent library for studying but be wary that it may be noisy even in the quiet areas as the entire library is open space and no "complete" floors.
I applaud whomever chose the new Chromebooks for the new library lending program. These Chromebooks are so light, and they are really wonderful for a person with serious injury and disability.
The best library for baby & toddler I love this place ????????????
This isn't a library, it's a daycare. There's maybe 20 shelves of books and no where to sit to get away from kids yelling. I get the whole modern library being a community centre thing but put a wall up! Get some more books and chairs! That place is huge so why not.
good
Beautiful library right by the Fish Creek area. Good and large selection also well organized by the categories. Unfortunately didn’t find the book I was looking for. Still a good library if you’re looking for a quiet place for studying or reading
Kids playing are a little loud sometimes, but great service and nice selection of books.
