I have to say that I am TOTALLY TICKED OFF! I live very close by and come here to WORK and STUDY but the teenagers come in here to eat, chat, and fool around! They yell, and laugh at the top of their lungs, and make themselves VERY heard and VERY noticed. The library staff do absolutely NOTHING to control the environment. It is over-run with disrespectful teens. There is an ENTIRE rec center attached to this library in countryhills VEVO rec center, but that is not enough for these disrespectful and out of control teenagers. WHY are they even allowed to come into the library using loud voices and being disruptive? The fact that the staff does nothing about it, is completely irresponsible! What happened to libraries being a quiet place to work? I don't mind some chit chat, I don't expect it to be silent, although that would be nice, but COME ON! THESE ARE MY TAX DOLLARS! I might as well stay at home and study! I'm going to file a formal complaint with the city. It honestly does not hurt to have some expectations of our teenagers these days, regarding respect and courtesy, and self-restraint! A group of 7 girls came into the library with a box of pizza and a box of wings and chowed down like it was a birthday party celebration INSIDE THE LIBRARY when there's a huge sitting area with tables in the rec center! WHY IS THIS BEING ALLOWED??????? This shouldn't be a place to chat and gossip, it should be a place to read, study, and work! I feel so completely disrespected and that MY RIGHTS are being violated! This place is a complete chaotic ZOO! They close in 1 hour, and for the past 5 hours, I've had nothing but disruptions from other people, and it is impossible to concentrate! I am just going to pack up and go home! I'll get more done there! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! This was a complete waste of my efforts coming here!

Our new local library! We found the staff helpful with a large selection of books to choose from. I can understand where some other reviewers note the loud feeling the having programs happening live. I'm sure it can be frustrating, but we've always read with headphones or at home in the reading chair. For us this library is perfect and we're glad it's encouraging kids to come out and be part of the CPL community.

Lovely area for little kids. Nice clean. Cozy.

Open to public. Hand sanitizers stationed just after the entrance. Use of nose masks not enforced but I guess highly encouraged.

I love this Library. The tables are well spaced. Covid protocols are being followed from what I can tell. They have little seating with plugs for a single person or two small kids to sit out with a little desk for computer. The kids area is adorable. This was my first visit spending any time inside the Library. The only thing I thought might be inconvenient at some point was the tables in the area I was at didn't have plugs at each one of them.

Jose Soriano

Very nice space, modern furniture, different rooms for each need. Kids area is good but it would be nice to have kind of a playground area. No too crowded even on freezing days. Various activities and programs available. Food court just outside the library. You can easily spend a day there.

Do not go to this library unless you want the staff to laugh and talk about you. The staff here are extremely rude. I went to the library this afternoon with a friend, after a couple hours I had to use the washroom. I left my belongings including my laptop, car keys, wallet, and backpack inside as I was just using the washroom and then coming right back to continue working on my school work. When I came back a few minutes later to enter the library, I was rudely told that I had to leave. I explained to the lady working that I just wanted to grab my stuff and exit and I did not want to wait in a long line, as I was working on an assignment that needed to be finished in a timely manner. She told me that it did not matter if my stuff was inside, that I had to leave. I completely understand that there are limits to how many people are allowed inside, but I was only gone a couple minutes and at the time there was no line or no one telling me I would not be allowed to re-enter, no signs, no nothing. I called my friend who was still inside to explain the situation, as I was on the phone with her she spoke to another woman who was working there. My friend was told the same thing, but just politely indicated that they should put up a sign or have someone to let you know, as it was a major inconvenience. That worker then proceeded to approach the other worker who spoke to me, she expressed what my friend had said and they both proceeded to laugh about the situation. This was extremely rude, I will never re-enter this establishment with such unwelcoming staff that likes to talk down and laugh upon others who are simply using the facility.

Amazing place, I got a hold in 1 day. And four more books came in the next 2 days.

I don't understand what the stuff are doing here? It looks more like kindergarten or chatting place than something for study! Poor visitors and the poor stuff members...My head is exploding right now!

Iman A. Hassabou

Like this library so much and my kids enjoy reading there as well

:TARIQ :SIDDIQUI

The library itself is very accommodating and welcoming. Their book delivery speed (when you place a hold online) is truly remarkable. The book return system does need some work though, as I return some books a day before the due date and still get it marked as "late" hence late fees rendered. I'm a voracious reader (reading 5 books a week) so I need a perfectly smooth borrowing system...this library provides that. As far as the noise level goes, that's unacceptable as too many kids and too much for them to do but overall this library is quite fun to hang around!

The environment is the absolute worst to try to study in, teenagers playing loud pranks on the people that are actually trying to study in here. Seems some people’s kids have an inability to realize the purpose of a library. Had to complain to a staff member. First and last visit here. Book and DVD selection is great however it’s a waste of some good study space.

Great library and fantastic staff. The family storytime is a highlight for my 3 year old. The kids section is warm and friendly.

This location unfortunately does not meet my expectations. The setting is not ideal for someone looking to study or read in a quiet area. There is a kid's corner containing kids toys, this environment sets up the kids to play very loudly while there is a study area nearby in close proximity. Each time I have visited, there were kids yelling or running around. In general, it is just a very loud place, not a lot of areas to peacefully study or to read. Call me old fashioned, but I thought library staff are meant to help facilitate a study environment. Lastly there is a lack of desks but lots of open spaces which I feel can be used for more desks. I wouldn't recommend this location unless someone were desperate. Staff however are friendly and resourceful, I just wished they helped make the place better for students trying to work. Last note: I study with earplugs or headphones in and I can still hear all the noise.

Troy Fyhn

Nice, newer library with a variety of media.

Placy De Souza

Excellent pandemic precautions, spacing and felt safe. Checkout easy . Layout with new books in front introduced me to 2 new books I wouldn't have otherwise considered.

Imelda Duarte

This library is so noisy. It’s impossible to find a quiet space even if you are in the very back of the place. Not recommended if you want to have quiet study time. This probably shouldn’t be considered a library but a playground. So loud with kids playing. I couldnt stay there for longer than 2 hours. Something needs to change. A library is meant to be quiet

Noisiest library I have been to so far

I really love this place but unfortunately I had a not so good encounter with Miss Youn Young Kim, there were these kids stations where they were supposed to build stuff with magnetic pieces and marshmallows and toothpicks. There was no information around the areas that the parents needed to stay with the kids and when I approached the girls hanging there (who I guessed were students) were very nice and accepted my 5 and half (grade 1) to play and my 2 yrs old. I was reading in a table next to them trying to keep one eye on my book and one on them when Miss Kim approached me and told me in a very harsh tone and as loud as she could that my children could not be there cause they were not the age required and that I needed to sit with then to play. Which I completely would’ve understand if someone would’ve told me since the beginning. Plus why did she feel the need to embarras me in front of the whole library to tell me that???? She could’ve used a different tone and not to scream at my face when telling me. There are nicer ways to make your point. I am very respectful towards rules and people, specially in public places but today I felt this person ruin my whole experience here. So please next time you have to confront a parent over a situation be kind and respectful. Thank you.

More like a daycare, than a library. A library is a place to study, research, work, rest by reading. A playground is where kids can play, grandparents can scold their grandkids loudly, hangouts. Open concepts shouldn't mean depriving other people's right to have their quiet space. Some people putting their feet up and sleeping, while the staff is letting them. They should have a room or place that is really for studying, and not taking care of kids. Good for kids to encourage them to go library and play, and maybe someday they will appreciate reading books. But the library should have a quiet(or less noise) place to study, whatever that "open concept" is.

Humud Said

Only good for borrowing materials. In terms of working space, it is basically a hangout place for kids. They used to have "quiet" areas but not anymore. Now, the whole library is just a giant social hangout area.

Very nice library. Quiet and well designed. The amount of computers is too low, though.

Ari Sanyal

Very noisy as the bedlam from the kids' area drifts over to the study/work tables. Short shelves and an open design result in minimal sound absorption. The wi-fi is extremely slow, compared to other CPL branches (I was connected to hotspot 3). Three of four power outlets at my workstation (white table at end) did not work and the 4th took much longer than usual to charge both my phone & my computer. Staff are conspicuous by their lack of interest. This is more a community meeting place than a library.. If you want to study, work or just enjoy some quiet time with a book, go to another branch.

Clean and lots of staff to help you if needed. Good selection of books, staff are friendly.

Way too loud. The open air rooms are a joke. I understand CPL is trying to offer services and spaces for young families, however, this should not be at the expense of people trying to read and study in a *library*. Today’s CPL libraries are essentially daycares, which is really disappointing.

The library is very noisy with kids screaming, people watching movies and making loud phone calls. There is a quiet study room though, but they always have some more kids programs there (I mean kids are preferred to people who want to study, even in the QUIET STUDY ROOM), why even spend the tax-payers money on quiet study area if you want to give it to kids? They are doing some renovations but I'm doubtful if they fix this problem. Cardel Place is full of rooms for kids programs, library is now just another room for kids. And the only thing I like about this place is that it's close to my house, so it gets two stars for this only.

Kinjal Patel

Very Loud. They are offering quite study room with open roof so all out side noise came it through easily. Their quite study rooms are JOKE...Today’s CPL libraries are essentially daycares, which is really disappointing.

We’re told that as our community changes so does our library to accommodate its needs. That’s great, but if you’re looking for a place to study, quietly read a book or do any type of research, this isn’t the place to do it. As much as we’re told this library strives “for a balance between quiet and not-so-quiet areas,” the reality is this is a place to run out the kids. It's a day care. There is no attempt by guardians to instill any type of “inside voice” behavior in the children, the adults looking after the little ones aren’t any better. There was an attempt to create secluded rooms, they added four, four rooms with no ceilings, they’re open air. I guess closing off the space wasn’t in the budget. If you’re part of the community that is looking for a place to take your kid for a few hours, you’ll have a blast, this place has been built for you. If you’re any other part of the community, find somewhere else to be. The staff are great (5 stars) and there has been lots of material that I’ve borrowed from this library over the years that I’ve enjoyed very much. I Just haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy it while actually at the library, which is where I want to be.

This place is a great daycare with lots of books in it. What band of muppets thought it was a good idea to mix kids with quiet enviornments? Disregard the library responding to the reviews- this clown space continues to be loud and full of kids.

This place is the worst place for quite study as it is more of a play ground where one's attention is constantly withdrawn by the noises and screaming of children during all hours of its operation. Hope to see some improvement in terms of controlling the noise, loud conversations, shouting, and screaming.

This place is one of the better library’s in Calgary, they have a giant selection of books and DVDs. It’s a quiet place even for having a big kids area. They have study tables so it’s good for group study’s. Computers are also accessible if you have an library card Although they don’t have any study rooms so if you want to study quietly and alone you’re your of luck, other than that I have no complaints.

Joshua Burleigh

Great place for kids, so it works great for me. Unfortunately it is an open concept with no study rooms, so if you plan to study... I can understand your pain. I remember when we would go to the Library when I was young and the Librarian would whisper to you, this is not that place, this is more a social hangout place... which is good for a cold Alberta city.

es ki

This library is way too loud. I just run in to pick up my books and run out. I'd love to go through the bookshelves or read magazines, but the noise level is not just irritating, it is ridiculous. Everyone is complaining about it in the comments, yet nothing changes. Kids can play outside, they can play in parks, they can play at home, they can play in their backyards. They don't need to play in a library, which is exactly what happens at the Country Hills location.
