As you know, we do not usually stop to give feddbacks when these are correct and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Library is included in the category of Public library.
Amazing place
Best library.
An incredible space for research, community engagement, or simply to sit and have a quiet read.
Way to one up any other city for how phenomenal a library can look.
The building is coming along nicely!
Amazing space. The elevators don't tell you where they are as you are waiting for one. Seems like a no-brainer. Beautiful building for sure. Well done.
Nice place ,good facilities, morden design
I have trouble walking and as a newcomer I had NO idea where I was going find an elevator I met another person going to the same conference I parked in the parking lot and neither one of us knew about a elevator It took me an hour to walk up stairs and sloped affairs I was totally exhausted and disorrinated This time I want to have a cab bring me but I want to know if he drops me near the parking lots The description that is on the website was completely useless to me.. I want to get out of the cab and walk into the library I am not interested in climbing mountains I want to pull up get out of the vehicle and walk into the library How do I do this ???????
Big library ???????? An area reserved for children to play. near the train station. Paid parking in front. Great collection of books. I recommend getting to know
An architectural marvel!! Congrats to the Dialog Architecture team for a job well done. I’ve been waiting to go and visit since I heard it opened. As a father with 2 young children I can appreciate the incredible book selection and play areas. It was everything we hoped for and more.
I visited this library two times. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Should plan to stay one day and study there.
This place is awesome! I love coming here to get some work done. They have tons of available meeting rooms that you can book out. I can't recommend the Central Library enough. It is a huge upgrade from the old one.
I love The Central Library , the thing is it's so cool that The C-Train goes under it. I had a great time here. Great location and amazing texture and layout. Love it here.
Does the library has a parking lot and kids place ?
An incredible building filled with wonderful programs and people
This is one of the most beautiful libraries of the decade with tonnes of books and so much space.
Beautiful, flowy, bright, wide open yet amazingly quiet! Took the Architecture Tour on Sat at 11:30. I highly recommend it. Went through the whole building except the theater which was occupied and the basement boardroom/meeting rooms. Lots of interesting things to learn about the building and unique services at this library as well. The staff and volunteers are amazing. Our volunteer tour guide was great.
Kept wishing it was my house, too expensive though
Amazing place.
Insanely beautiful building
I really enjoyed being there and liked the architecture of the building. I like the Children section more as it contains ample learning materials. century old blue print of Calgary town plan and historical photograph are amazing.
I see something new every time I come here. It fills me with such pride that we have this fantastic architectural beauty in our city that also offers such a wide breadth of things to so many people. Definitely worth a visit or several.
great service and lots to offer
beautiful building but the wifi doesn’t work so if your planning to come and study here beware
Love this place !
The new library is amazing. Ahead of schedule, massively under budget, beautiful, useful, state of the art... We are truly lucky, and should be thankful.
I am extremely excited about the new library opening downtown. I absolutely love the staff that is patiently waiting to move into the new location.
Nice place very accommodating. Lots of areas and great displays. Many computers to use.
A (C) train runs through it.
One of stunning architect of library that I have ever seen. They have all kind of books, playground for children, and even room for gamer. That's cool
Stunning building, love the design. As an out-of-towner, I visited here for a fashion show so I can't comment much on the selection of the books, materials etc. However, the space was clean, beautiful and has ample space for events/functions, such as the one I attend. My only complain is that my wifi and data would not work in the building until I stepped outside! The library does have free public wifi, but you need a Calgary library card, so I had no choice but to go outside to get a signal.
I was able to see this library a couple years ago when a friend told us we had to see it. He gave us a tour of it and it is Amazing. It is definitely a tourist attraction because of its design and architecture. Trains go through this library and you can’t even tell when you are in the library. There is also lots of space and different areas and meeting rooms. It is also very accessible for every one and has an elevator and something to do here for all ages. It is a must see.
Biggest library in calgary situated in downtown. Easy public transport access to reach. Beautifully architected worth seeing. You can always witness some seminars or activities to participate along with art galleries and lovely piece of artworks installed. You ca. Also book space for your private seminar or lecture with the office.
It's definitely way to busy if you want to some where quite, and finding anywhere to sit can be difficult as well. I definitely recommend checking it out though.
one of the best places in the world!
An amazing library in terms of design and place to read and study.
An amazing library in terms of design and place to read and study.
Tbh, it's a great library. It offers a wide variety of books and is by far one of the most beautiful libraries here in Calgary. Wifi's good too. But sadly, it became more of a museum rather than a library. People walking around taking pictures and whatnot. Kids running around and shouting. Disarranged chairs and tables. Too much open space, no privacy - which means everyone will end up looking at you one way or another. Students huddle in circles and start talking too loud and much more. Sadly, this isn't an ideal place to study or work. I barely finished my projects mainly because of the noises and that constant stares of your neighbors which i find very annoying. I know that the library is still kinda new so im hoping for more improvements to better cater the people, especially those who want to do work or study in the library
Really fantastic building. Great views of the city. Seems like it would be a great place to study.
This is an amazing place. I love everything about this place, especially kids' corner. This building makes me proud to be a Calgarian.
Really nice and modern building, apparently it’s practically a tourist attraction. There are cafes both within and right next to the library.
Very stunning. I was blown away when I had first visited. The architect is beautiful.,elegant, yet simple you can't help but get drawn in.
The children's park is open again
Amazing building, Amazing people
The new Central Library in Calgary is an absolute masterpiece. The architecture of the building is breathtaking. It’s wide and expansive with some very interesting interior and exterior design elements. The facility itself is great. There’s the obvious library parts. But it’s the extra services you can get here that really make it stand out. There are media rooms to make YouTube (or other) content. Rooms for classes (big and small) or private study. Areas for business meetings and even places to create and produce music. I noticed that even a few months after the Library opened that it’s still very busy. I know that the Central Library will be a great addition to Calgary’s identity. But more so it’ll be, and already is, a great place for people to learn and explore. Thank you Calgary for investing in such an amazing place.
I love the Central, the architecture is amazing, the staff super friendly and helpful and location convenient.
Wondering why so many meeting rooms are required at the new library given all the empty buildings downtown.
I never knew a library could be so magical. I've always loved books and reading, but Calgary brought the game to a whole new level with this one. Probably one of my favourite things about the New Central Library is the effort they put in to inclusivity. Every time I've visited, there are people from different outreach organizations ready to talk to anyone who's interested. There's even an entire section (or "safe space") for teens with big TVs and controllers available for gaming, as well as classes focused on different topics and skills. It warms my heart to see a space that attracts so many people from such diverse walks of live to come and be inspired by all the possibilities out there. I could go on for hours about all the great aspects of this place, but I'm going to stop here and suggest you go check it out for yourself- it'll be worth it.
The new central library is really cool to explore and has a ton of interesting things to use, borrow, and try. There is almost a whole floor for kids, including an indoor jungle gym, a big area for teenagers including video games, tvs, and board games, lots of books, a cafe, and great views of the surrounding area. There are maps, old newspapers and magazines, and film rolls. Lots of rooms can be rented for study, recording, an auditorium, and there is a large computer area. My kids and I had fun but anyone would like this place, if only for the books and lots of art
Finally a library where children are separated out from the people who need to study or write or read. Architecture is unreal, but there is a lack of water fountains and only one entrance/exit in sight. Dry erase markers didn't work on the new white boards and our LinkedIn program classroom was moved to the basement where no computers were to aid in learning this material.
lol i only been there 2 times its so cool there's a teens place which is nice they have events uh the only thing i will say is there is some busyness sometimes and some other places i've been to was a bit busy.
What a fabulous and beautiful library! Very spacious, clean, and comfortable! The modern design is really attractive and appealing! The service was not great! It was Excellent indeed. Friendly snd helpful staff! You can dive in the enjoyable learning “Sea” right away! Thank you for the City to offer such wonderful place for their residence! Wishing everyone a delightful reading! Highly recommended!
More then a Library, a place of meeting and community. There’s a coffee bar for your enjoyment, a beautiful place to meet, relax, reflex or simply to pick up a book a begin to read. The kids section is well designed for kids to play and look through books.
Loved visiting here and getting lost! All Libraries should be this beautiful, clean, inviting AND INSPIRING! Thank you Calgary for allowing me to visit your beautiful space ❤️ Keep up the good work.
Fantastic architecture, a must see if you're nearby - looks good from the outside and even better inside! Get the lift up to the 4th floor and take a look down as well as seeing it from below!
Astonishing wooden architectural design
most beautiful architecture for library
Look great inside with lots of wood anywhere wall look sweet
Fantastic beautiful space! A must see! (Can be a little on the busy side at times)
This place is an architectural wonder. The location is about a block east of the City Hall LRT platform. There is no parking onsite, but there are a few street stalls in front, and if you are early enough, there is public parking at City Hall. Street parking is free on Sundays in Downtown if you want to visit. Awesome library, with lots of books and public spaces. Arrive early on the weekend to get the best seating.
This is a really beautiful library and it is very close to the train I love it, there is a lot of space and rooms that can be booked with big table and a big whiteboard, that is really useful for me as it is easy to study with my friends. I enjoy going there!
The finest architecture in the city.
This is most excellent!
Pretty cool architecture and space. I'm from Edmonton so I didn't really use the library, but it looks awesome!
They're doing a great job at providing services during these weird covid times.
Beautiful design
My favourite library in Canada hands down, maybe my favourite place in town - I get more accomplished here than I ever would at home lol! Gorgeous architecture, the best programs available for whatever you need with the knowledgeable staff needed to back it all up! ????????????
This place is incredible. Gorgeous building accessible by train, lots of interesting and useful services - all for free! You gotta love your local library. Seriously check out their website for programming - they've got science talks, yoga, resume workshops + services for newcomers.
Beautiful building inside and outside. It has been a while since I visited and there was a tour program at that time. Had a good time at there. Lucky you people at Calgary.
Loved it! Very cool design and architecture
Beautiful new building. Where did the city get the funds?
Wonderful little library with a nice coffee shop and tidy new books and computers. Would recommend coming here for a study and quiet evening.
Very clean place with no smell at all, staff is really friendly and the place feels like home. The whole architecture of the building is amazing and having a teens room for young teens is very smart and awesome!
This place is a true gem and a masterpiece building. It is a blessing to this city that is going to increase the social bond we have with one another. I am completely awe struck by the amount of love and care that has gone into this place. Kudos to all the builders, I particularly want to laud the finishing crew as they have done an outstanding time. This is the kind of thing the city should be investing in and not the Olympics....
What an amazing use of public money.
I had an afternoon to stroll around Calgary and I had this building on my "must see" list and it did not disappoint! I work in the architectural field and i was amazed to look at the many details and viewpoints angles there are across the building in/out. This place has a very organic feel with all the wood used and the flowy curves. Some very nice quiet spaces to go read, study or just relax.
It's trully amazing in everyway.
Very chaotic with the amount of kids running around.. wifi CAN be slow. It is exquisite looking, though, and staff are very good.
This place is unbelievable, it has every resource you need to become educated in any field, shows the local story and culture, supports your children and offers access to expensive multimedia resources. Its mind blowing.
Wonderful architecture, great to see Structuralism in a contemporary design
Awesome!!!
@ the fourth floor reading
Very beautiful building. The Central Library is fast becoming the representative landmark in Calgary. There is something for everyone. From books, to food & coffee at Lukes', to art. It brings the whole community together with spaces for groups to use and services you can utilize to help your business. There are meeting rooms, conferencing equipment, presentation spaces, tools for video and audio production, just to name a few. The only negative I would say is that it gets loud and crowded. There are usually kids running around. So if you are actually trying to study here, it may not be such a great place.
Building a library without free public parking(2 hours) is retarted , they charge super high fee for nearby parking lot. Also there is no public transport from my home(Legacy street, south Calgary) to this library at the weekends. Thank you City of Calgary for making transport and parking affordable and comfortable for public!
Amazing place.
Beautiful architecture, but poor baby/kids area! There's nothing interesting for the babies who can only crawl do.
It's a very nice and quiet library! There are loads of books and the staff are super helpful and so friendly. There is a lot of seating and if you want peace and quiet to study or read I would say come here in the afternoon until closing on a weekday. I knocked off one star since it is downtown so parking is a bit annoying.
Excellent, lots of offerings here, but the library is not without its own problems. First of all, to counter a review that mentioned lack of printers ...there are plenty of printers on every floor! Areas needing improvement. Washrooms on level 2 and 3 are very small often in disastrous state and at times with no toilet paper in stalls. This needs more attention especially during peak times. As has already been mentioned this place can be loud especially the teen and kids areas, and in my opinion this can be easily addressed but does not seem to be a mandate here. Teens are playing video games and are literally screaming sometimes completely ignored by staff standing near by. I don't think the city aka the tax payers intended to spend quarter billion dollars thinking there will be teens screaming through out a public library and that it would be acceptable to everyone. That is not balance! Library needs to stop making excuses and address this. As for the kids area this is where open space design clashes with functionality head on. At times the whole floor and beyond can be impacted by one small group of kids but the kids aren't to blame here. The library would really benefit from a glass enclosure around this area, at the end of the day the "main primary" purpose of the building is to serve as a library not a kids park or day care. Anyways overall great space, and there is always lots of helpful staff around.
Amazing place for study
Had a very nice experience! Staff here is really helpful. Facilities are extremely good too.
Probably the best place in downtown Calgary
Staff are friendly and helpful.
Such a nice place to go to read books! Lots of options!
I love the central library. Everything about it is so neat! The library is clean and neat, the atmosphere is pretty quiet but not as noisy at forest lawn public library. But what i hope that the future will have a plug in outlets for tables that don't have a place charge ur electronic devices, as for a person who goes alone to study I would like some personal cubicals so I can have the ability to use the restroom and come back without having to ask a fellow person to look after my stuff or carry everything and unload after I release myself from the restroom.
Closed during COVID
Best library I’ve ever been to. The architecture was absolutely beautiful. Throughout the library there are plenty of beautiful and unique study spaces and views with good sound isolation. The free wifi is consistent and fairly fast making this a great study location or alternative to work from home.
Love the art and sophistication...but... its more of an art gallery than an actual library now. Theres not much books
Perfect place..
Went there to work on my resume Not a printer in sight Waste of time
I visited Calgary last week and I had the pleasure of visiting the Central Library. I have to thank you all for the experience and congratule all the people involved for the amazing space they have built! I am a booklover and I love libraries and I have to confess that the Calgary Public Library brought tears to my eyes! Such a wonderful and welcoming space, such friendly people working there, so many possibilities offered to the community! The Calgarians are very lucky to have a such an incredible library to call theirs! <3
The library was big and beautiful, very well organised and staff were friendly
Love this building. It is perfect place to unwind and bring the kids. The architecture is amazing.
We are so fortunate to have this amazing resource in our inner city.
Great place to study. Nice staff. Friendly people.
Beautiful but not really open that late. ????
Beautiful space to relax and enjoy literature, along with several other resources. Friendly environment and helpful staff make for a positive experience! Especially as a newcomer.
Definitely worth checking out the architecture!
So proud to call this OUR central library! The staff is always willing to help you out. The security is so friendly, wishing you a nice day as you walk out. It’s a great place just to come read a book or bring your kids for a play date.
I love this library! There is computers, books, the architecture is amazing, and it is in a convenient location for c-train riders!
I would like to say that I love Calgary public library. But they have really bad hours of operation. I believe this library should be open from 7am to midnight. I think most people would agree that a coffee shop has better hours for studying and working. I wish there was a good free place to study that stayed open late in Calgary. I don’t like having to go a coffee shop to study as I have to buy something that I most like don’t want or is overpriced just to be there and I cannot eat my own cheep and in most cases healthier food. Please consider having this library have better hours.
You can learn something. You can use computer. You can borrow books. You can take the resume editting. Etc.. There's a lot of things to help you to live in Calgary.
It was so nice to be back in the library again. I love the spaces and feeling of peace in the library.
An eye-catching building on the east end of downtown. Great access via C-Train, but the parking is mediocre (expected for downtown). The interior is massive with something for everyone of all ages & interests. Our kids have loved the child-friendly sections with reading nooks, toys, play structures, and more.
Absolutely one of the most beautiful modern libraries that I have seen.
Quiet, it was great!
Absolutely amazing! As an Edmontonian, I am very jealous. A world class library.
Excellent
An amazing addition to Calgary in so many ways, and will add culture to the city for decades to come!
Dismal outlets and uncomfortable seating. My studies were interrupted multiple times so that separate security guards could tell me how to sit. Not a place I will be returning to and I will alert other students that this place is not a hospitable environment for studying.
Wow. That art of the building is stunning. There is definitely something for everyone. Oh, and there are books too.
Very nice design. Friendly staff and knowledgeable about where everything is located
Very beautiful library! Fantastic design.
The new library is AMAZING. I am so proud and happy I live in a city that offers a space like this. Perfect for the whole family, with a huge selection of books, CDs, and much more. The library card also gives you access to online materials. Thank you, Calgary! I am glad I live here and I have access to so many resources and we get the chance to enjoy this. Hey people, please take care of this space that is so valuable and bring us so many growth opportunities.
I LOVE this library, it has every book and items that can help you have an enjoyable day. There is space for every age -group in this library and it's actually quiet and staff are really caring. I would honestly come to this library all the time but it is really far from my house. I would come here than go to a mall there are so many things to do.????
Couldn't get a chance to get in due to COVID but building is beautiful
Beautiful place, though might be too noisy for a what you expect from a library.
Really nice and open layout, ideal for reading a book, studying, or sipping on coffee taking in the architecture. I especially like how they have a quick access library of popular picks at the front on the main level.
The true signature piece that a central library should be. Great architecture...and it has books.
Noisy as people forget It's a library, including volunteers, not a good example, and now smelly. The head of this operation needs to remind some basic rules to staff and visitors. Show some respect.
Besides the wonder of the architect's innovative design, this is where we get to learn and touch the million books lol . I love the feel of actual books!
Every bit the architectural marvel it's said to be.
An outstanding addition to Calgary's cultural life. Gorgeous building, great kids playground and friendly staff. The icing on the cake: awesome ice cream and coffee
Beautiful building, the place to just walk on a cold day, having a coffee or do some shopping with amazing selections of books
Beautiful space. Chromebooks can be borrowed at the library and used all day at the library. There are also more than 200 computer workstations for public use. There are 20 meeting rooms that can be booked by the public for meetings of three or more people. They have full technology hookups and large electronic screens on the walls. There is an indigenous languages resource centre where one can learn Cree and Blackfoot languages. There is even an indigenous elder in residence who has public office hours for consultation with the public. Get your questions answered by a real authority! There is an interfaith room that can be booked for prayer complete with sinks for ablutions. Lots of public open spaces for quiet reflection and socializing. There is a quiet room on the fourth floor which is beautiful and comfortable. There is a large area dedicated to children with a climbing area and various activity stations, of which the LEGO table is the most popular. There is an artist in residence and an historian in residence. It's a great place to spend a day off!
First and foremost, the design of the building is absolutely stunning. I was concerned at first that this building prioritized form over function, and that the large open hall connecting all the floors would raise the noise levels too high, and make studying difficult. After multiple hours spent on every floor, I can safely say that this is not a concern. The facilities are excellent, and a great addition to the downtown.
Like a nest.
I love the new design and the more open spaces, but It should have better accessibility options for those with mobility issues. Still a great experience.
Nice facilities, but not a very good "library" when there is often loud singing and events that can make it difficult to focus at times. Buy noise cancelling headphones, or go somewhere else.
When this place first opened it was like a tourist attraction. It felt like a mall. But now it’s just a normal library that’s also very nice to look at. It’s very spacious and has lots of room to sit down. The study rooms are also Conveniently placed. Staff are very helpful. Lots of selection too It’s not your average library but trust me you won’t regret coming.
Scandinavian Public design for the Calgary masses. As an architect I do have some comments regarding the general design which I could elaborate on but you know what it is built and it is wonderful! Don't just walk by - go in! Not from Calgary? Step in and discover some local knowdledge from the friendly staff! Or at least connect to the free wifi! Always great events going on here - especially Design Talks!
One of Calgary’s pride - and well worth it! It is really a masterpiece, an amazing work of art, inside out. It definitely is a must-visit when you’re in town and a staple even for locals. A variety of facilities available, friendly staff going the extra mile and centrally located makes this library a favorite!
Great design with lots of facilities like usage of computers at no cost. In addition, upto 5 dollars printing is free. Every province should follow this ideology to help people with some amount of money in printing. Friendly staff and lots of activities keep going on. Modern design has made it so spacious that it looks like a hotel. Also, great place to study and explore knowledge. Esl classes are great for beginners.
It’s a nice building with really cool architecture.
Pretty cool
World class gym. A best place to explore the history of calgary. I can say one of the greatest spots I visited so far. Great project by city of calgary
This is an incredibly sophisticated, spacious, architecturally-epic building!
Epic library and break out space!
Obviously the most beautiful building in Calgary. But if you want to study or read expect music concerts, drumming performances, magic shows.... And kid play place. I don't know about you but the function of library should be a library. The design of the study room is poorly designed as it should be isolated from the circus down below on weekends.
Awesome space, and there's lots of activity rooms and sections
What a beautiful space! I loved seeing the big play area for kids, all the study and meeting space, and lots of natural light. If I lived in Calgary it would definitely be a place I’d hang out! Well worth a visit just to see the awesome architecture!
Fantastic architecture and place to unwind, grab a coffee, a book or 2 and take the little ones
On it's debut it pushed what what I thought a convenient library could be. It's amazingly comfortable, accessible, expansive, beautiful, and inclusive. To spend time here is to spend time, for most, at a better house than the one you live in. My life has been positively influenced from the use of the Central Library and I will continue to use it to pass the time whenever I'm by.
Another great addition from the City of Calgary, Central Public Library itnhas everything from FREE meetings rooms for the public to book and use, digital floor is amazing, kids floors (LOUD NOISES), but, they’re kids after all but fantastic addition to the library, top floor is all about Calgary and love it, come explore and see what this has to offer.
State of the art and Inspiring !
Probably the best library on the planet. Highly recommend visiting this place architecture is amazing
Probably one of the most beautiful architectural designs i have ever seen. Its open floor design is such a appeal, and I could live there. Kudos to every person who worked hard to create this masterpiece.
absolutely utterly loved it.
Very rude library staff, too cheap to get the women's magazines archive, the vogue archives harpers bazaar archive,Toronto sun/cgy sun archives ,guess now they got the new library building, the don't have anymore money/funds for the extras.for those one must go to the university of Calgary to view the other databases. Continue to talk with cpl librarians regarding adding these databases to their network digital collection, is under consideration for the moment. UofC library access to the general public has been banned until further notice due to the covid virus outbreak which is ongoing.
Library??? More like Museum! This place is one of the last to have those obsolete items called "Books". Does anyone else remember those? They are those ancient artifacts before we had Microchipz and Interweb.
Canada’s most amazing new Central Library This is the biggest central library build in Canada since Carnegie money 100 years ago. Beautiful, bright, Advanced intelligent design. Don’t just wander, take a tour, it’s worth it. So much more here than meets the eye. If you’re in Calgary, you NEED to visit.
This building architecture is phenomenal! Wood curves and modern furniture. Great staff and lots of nooks where one can find themselves fully absorbed by a book or two. Worth checking out!
This library is all aesthetics, no logic. One set of elevators for all these floors and people? Front doors take like 5 seconds to start opening watched a child get smacked in the face by them. When you try to open them manually it's like 50 pounds of weight. Computers are suuuuper slow.
Very beautiful space. The kids area crosses many levels, causing an awkward accessibility concern for an area overrun with strollers and babies with limited mobility. Not ideal, but the play space is unique and interesting for the kids. (The handrails aren't even low enough for the kids to reach on the stairs!) It could use some stroller parking on the main floor and near the kids area. It could also use additional bathrooms in the kids area, and change tables in the nursing room. (Update from dec 7th. My dad can’t get around well with breathing troubles and the elevator wouldn’t take us from the 1M floor to the 1* floor where there’s two flights of stairs to go down. When asked I was told to go all the way around by ramp. This doesn’t help with breathing problems and should be corrected. There’s no reason why an elevator cannot operate).
Such an amazing place! I love the architecture
Great place
The library is reopened, lot of spaces to study, the internet is so fast as 500M/s upload
This library is massive, the architecture is amazing. It has a cafe and a kids only area. Lots of books and reading areas, I definitly will be back many times.
This modern design library has a power keeping me stay & read, very special library.
Absolutely perfect
I didnt know a library has a playground and not really the “quiet study place”.. lots of noises everywhere.
Modern, artistic building recently constructed and opened in 2019. Located in downtown Calgary, accessible via C-Train, bus, and personal vehicle.
The library is an architectural delight--part of a growing cluster of important buildings in this part of town. It really is fulfilling the role of the modern library as "civic living room" in the contemporary city. For locals, it's an incredible resource. For visitors, it's a must-see.
Beautiful building, friendly and helpful staff, lots of resources, not just books.
An amazing and fun new space!
What a gorgeous public library! We are decibels amazed by its architecture design as well as its well-organized floor plan.
Great facility, extremely friendly and helpful staff, this library is a Calgary landmark.
Its a big library with 4 floors, a little play place, and a café. The interior and exterior are beautiful and amazing. There are thousands of books, and I would recommend going.
Really cool space. Lots of quiet areas to read and study.
Wow. This is a wonderful piece of architecture & I highly recommend checking it out, even if you aren’t getting any books. I’m not sure if it’s intended as a tourist attraction but it’s a magnificent space with activities for everyone. It builds and enhances a sense of community through numerous clubs and social networks. There’s some very interactive areas and it’s also got a great selection of books (I mean it IS a library).
This place is more like a nice cafeteria than a library. You just cant find a quiet space to study, (I tried 4th floor, it was quiet but not after 2pm...
Over the years, this is the only Canadian gov project that I agree with & something that I do not hate. It actually looks amazing & the Ctrain going underneath is actually so cool.
Just being around the building is so inspiring. Love it!
Beautiful library.
The new Library is a beautiful piece of architecture inside and out. It is a shame though, that it is more like an amusement centre then a library. I picked out my spot for the day on the 4th floor in the corner overlooking the c train tracks. I could hear a loud group of school kids about 6 or 7 years old down at the other end. Shortly after they came down to where I was sitting. They were so loud & running around. It looked like they were supposed to draw pictures of what they saw out of the windows. I thought they would never leave to be able to enjoy some piece & quiet. I asked one of the adults if these kids had inside voices. Her comment was that they were very excited. At one time teachers & other adults would explain to children how to behave in a public place especially a library.. The noise from the floors below carries up to the 4th floor. After these kids left a man sat down in a chair a couple of metres away & proceeded to talk very loudly on his phone for over an hour. There also seems to be a lot of homeless people hanging around and many of them were already waiting in the line up to get in when the doors opened at 09:00 AM I was there for the day to read & just enjoy our new facility in a bright spot with large windows which was on the 4th floor overlooking the downtown. The idea was to sit in a nice bright area and not stuck in some dark corner. It was a very unpleasant noisy experience and I will not be back, except maybe to show the building to visitors to Calgary
Unmissable. Calgary's most beautiful building by far and truly something to be proud of.
The library itself is superb! Beautifully designed and lots of great spaces to work / work. Rating it a 2 because of the books they carry (including transphobic literature that promotes hatred against trans people) and the organization of books. Just wondering if the library promotes hatred of other groups or just trans people?
The Calgary Central library is not a library it is a temple to learning and community. first of all, architecturally it is one of those beautiful buildings we've ever seen. Further, in addition to all of the learning resources they wouldn't want to expect, it has a numerable social gathering places, as well as museum quality exhibits, as well as quiet study places galore. we only found this place on our last day in town and are very sad of it. Behind the recommended visit whether one is a local orange just visiting from out of town.
Beautiful library! I didn't come here to study but to simply admire the architecture, and the ambience made me want to grab a book and read or study. I'm sure my grades would've been much higher had I had access to this while I was a student. They also have double-glassed meeting rooms for as little as 2-3 people up to an entire classroom available. A definite must see site when in Calgary.
Great venue! Highly recommend to book your event here.
If you’re looking to get some self education, then the Calgary public library situated in the heart of Calgary downtown, adjacent the bow college and the municipal centre is where to be. A new facility that was commissioned in November of 2018 is a stunner; apart from its traditional educational use, it also serves as a tourist attraction where you get to see a cross section of the Calgary community. The CPL has got something for everyone! Be sure to check it out.
Beautiful nice building. But I hope that people's behaviour changes for the sake of the library, especially the parents with little kids, letting them do whatever they want. Or a woman taking from my wife's hand her book telling her it's a library and she had the right to take the book from my wife's hand. Folks, we paid with our taxes this beautiful architectural building, let's take care of it.
i really enjoy spending my time at this library whenever im not at dennys or my house or my ex wifes backyard i really like to use the computers to look at the good pictures online that make me say yes inside of my body but once i got recorded doing it but im good with that this is a free country i have no shame asyou can see there is a picture of meenjoying the library....... dale like
Truly a world class building.
The Central Library is a modern building with multiple levels catering for different ages and needs. From the children's library with it's play area, to quiet study and meeting venues for adults. The library has a wide range of programs including family story time, as well as online services like free wifi and ebooks for children and adults. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Great architecture. Lots of resources. A great place to enjoy reading.
Three environment is inviting and the collection is suitable for both searching and grazing. The facilities are amazing with bookable meeting rooms, recording and video production studios. It's a space for quiet lounging, research, teaching, job searching, discussion, learning, productions, etc.
Very pretty building in downtown Calgary. Should really be included as a must-see destination if you’re a book lover. In general, all satellite libraries in Calgary are wonderful with great amenities like free printing etc. Librarians are very friendly and helpful and everyone exercises caution with social distancing and hand cleaning procedures. Always an enjoyable experience visiting CPL in person or online. Thank you for serving and being a amazing part of our community
By far the best library I’ve ever seen. Probably the best looking building in Calgary. Definitely doesn’t feel like a library but more of a modern art museum. It’s very well designed for this day and age. Everywhere you turn you’ll find an outlet to charge your devices. Still a lot of people coming to check it out so it’s quite busy and loud. Be sure to grab a coffee from Luke’s. If you have a kid, order them a babycino.
Amazing.
The new Calgary central library is quite the architectural gem in my opinion. It’s a massive building and a very modern one, while still being very warm and cozy mainly due to the amount of wood used all throughout the building. It’s definitely a must-see whether you live in Calgary or just visiting. The staff were also very welcoming and made sure to give us information on the building so we can check everything out and have a great experience, which we most definitely did!
Beautiful building with excellent facilities. Very comfortable, space friendly. Must visit this world famous architect awarded library.
Coolest library in Alberta
What a beautiful spot! Far from the old model of a "building full of books", this is a library that is not only built towards future use, but one that is meant to be inspiring and comfortable at the same time. There is seating everywhere, plenty of great sight lines both inside and out, and more features than you can shake a card catalog at.
This place is HUGE, I felt like I was in a museum and not even a library. I had so much fun exploring the place and I met a lot of really friend people. It’s a great environment and I really recommend it for group studying or simply chilling and vibing out!
Amazing place... Quiet
Participated in the Beakerhead “Locked Library” - 3 hours, 6 floors, and loads of fun library-related challenges. Total win, and a great way to give a little to the library!
Beautiful Library and Piece of Art....It has everything for every age....
I enjoy studying on the 4th floor. Great coffee too.
Too Noisy, the staff doesn't address the noisy visitors properly, if you want to read or study don't go to this library; if your plan is for fun, it is for you. Bad experience for people who wants to read or study.
I through when people told me to check out this library it was going to be a joke but true isn’t joke. This library is every will organized and separated for everything to be function which is amazing to see how they did it. It is worth checking this library because it’s cool designed and interior is well will organized and neat to check out.
This is an epic building, with an intention by the builders to fascinate everyone to books.
Beautiful building.
I visited Calgary as a trip from California. My friends in SW told me I had see their new library. So I did. First of all it's extremely accessible being right on the Ctrain line, and that's how I got there - fast, easy, and no parking hassle. Just a short walk. I was dazzled. The place is truly a masterpiece, both awesomely beautiful and highly functional. I could quickly see it is a popular place to be. Every floor hummed with activity. There were people of all ages. Even though it was so busy, it wasn't noisy. Must have well designed acoustics. Aside from the jaw-dropping architecture, the place has every amenity you could imagine. It's one of the many features that make Calgary one of the most livable metros on the whole planet. It must be a center of strong civic pride.
Very nice, friendly staff, modern architecture, well stocked, and clean
The biggest public library in Calgary. Lots of space and books. Very different architecture and design.
Fantastic architectural presentation! Amazing catering to all ages but elderly. The only suggestion I'd make is a rentable scooter for older folk. Otherwise this library is incredibly appealing.
Very nice spaces
So nice to get back into the library to pick up and drop off books. My quiet place I like to go and spend the day relaxing and getting work done. Covid safety rules in place at this location. Staff and security friendly as usual...
It is an astonishing place, beautiful building but certainly not a library, if you want a peaceful place where to work, read or try to get some peace this is not the place. Super loud and crowds visiting with children running and screaming everywhere, groups chatting and admiring which is fine, however, I honestly believe people should be more mindful about the place it is supposed to be. Or volunteers and staff should remind visitors this is meant to be a library not a giant coffee shop.
It's really good place especially taking the little ones there.
Greatest place to visit
The new library is such a beautiful building to see. Whether you’re just coming to sight see or planning to study this library is the place to go. The amount of books to chose from is great and the checking out/returning process is easy and quick. Although the location is central, if you don’t live nearby or are not planning on coming via transit, good luck finding parking on weekends or sunny afternoons. Every time I visit this library I wonder why the builders didn’t consider where the crowds that it draws would park, especially when the majority of visitors are parents with small children.
What an amazing place it is.
Incredible building, I'll play armchair quarterback and throw my opinion in. Should have had the moving sidewalks around the perimeter like some major airports. And I think access to a rooftop patio in summer would have been incredible. But easy for me to say.
Amazing architecture, spacious and bright
So lovin it!! Huge. Wish not only cafeteria inside.
Beautiful library. Love the woodwork and design.
I absolutely love the downtown library. It is very easy to get to. I also love the size of the the downtown location, I am very glad that there is an elevator
Amazing! Friendly staf. Natural light combined with wood and metal simply amazing!
The most Beautiful library I've ever seen. The service was great and so was the whole experience.
Architecture to put Calgary on the map. Wonderful place to visit, listen to a lecture, read, lounge, or create!
I'm not really a "library person" but had some time to kill while waiting for an appointment nearby so I decided to check it out. This truly is an impressive building and I could not imagine anything more one could want in a public library. My favorite sighting... A (new-to-me) quote from Albert Einstein: "The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library".
Do not study here on weekends. It's truly ridiculous that a library would allow loud music to be blasted near to the quiet study areas. There is a performance area on the first floor, far away from the study commons that could be used.
At the new Calgary Central Library. Proud of my city. Awesome, come visit.
I was disappointed to learn that I get NO internet access on my phone as soon as I enter the building. The ONLY way to get on the net is to use the library WiFi. And the ONLY way to get on the WiFi is to have a library card. This is not good practice and they need to revisit their strategy.
The architecture of the building is beautiful. It is a huge building and it's equipped with modern technology. People can play games with big screen and also play board games. It has group study room which is good, theater-like room, lots of books.
This library is so amazingly beautiful, they should be charging admission. I was not sure why the city needed a new library... books? But they built this place for the future. Teen rooms. Community rooms, performance spaces. Tech labs computers. And it is all bright and beautifully designed. Head down and tour around. It’s worth it
Great place to learn!
I'm so proud that this beautiful building with free resources, books, programs, and civic engagement is in our city. This building makes me feel proud to be a Calgarian.
It's like an art museum. Every place is full of modern art beauty. I like it very much!
This library is absolutely wonderful! This is a must see if you are visiting Calgary.
You get a sense of the remarkable and grandiose vision that started as a spark in the mind of the architect and as a Calgarian I’m in the company of over a million people that are blessed with that vision right here in our backyard. The experience and it is an experience is sensational from the moment you enter this space of inspiration, education, and information. Equipped with a recording studio, a concert hall, a play area, and a restaurant. This is a must see experience for every visitors to Calgary. As a Calgarian this world class gem is a must experience on a regular basis. The marriage of libraries from the past with the libraries of the future ensures that our city offers an opportunity to everyone looking to open and expand their mind, dare to dream and connect with the information. This is a space that will help make their dreams a reality. So I tip my hat to every single person involved in this project weather their role was big or small may you take a moment to pat yourself on the back because our new central library echoes the adage that it is and it has always been teamwork that makes the dream work. Thank you!
Beautiful architecture and lots of options for seating and space to read and do your work. But I do find it to be quite loud at times.
Great place to hang out.
The architecture of the library is mind-blowing. Forget the books, go there for the gram.
I love it! But I also love books. They have a wonderful children's area, which includes this climbing structure which my little one loved.
Beautiful architect, lots of activities. Highly recommend for anyone living in Calgary to check it out
A beautiful library that makes you forget to go out. ????
Love coming here there’s plenty of space to sit and study or read a book also offers some great views of the area
What a beautiful facility this is! I was fortunate enough to get a walk through this beautiful building. I've traveled many places the world over, and this is one of the nicest modern libraries I've seen. Only library I've attended that I couldn't use the internet in without a library card, which is a bit silly. Not sure the logic, but perhaps they get this fixed eventually.
it's a lovely place
Great building. The reason why were only giving 3 stars is because was not stroller accessible. There were lots of places that we couldn't see because of the stairs. Not enough elevators.
As owner of A laptop Shoppe, i think this new city of Calgary library has an amazing architectural design, and a functional business component, as well as a joy for all to enjoy an experience whether your 4 or 94.
Epic architecture!!!!
Closed to public access, front door pickup . Call in for what you need, then pickup.
The new library is stunning and full of architecture that is well suited for photos and exploring! The library is still quite busy so it can be difficult to capture images without others in the way. I would recommend calling ahead to get permission and let them know your coming.
A security guy was very rude. He asked me to put my shoes on (I was working with my laptop seating in a chair the whole day, so I took my heavy boots off) referring to some Library policies. When I asked to provide me with these policies he just ran away. Whereas many homeless people sleep on coaches with shoes on and nobody bothers to talk with them.
I only wish it was open later on Friday. Maybe in the future! :)
The new library is so beautifully put together. It is not just the inside that is beautiful, it is beautiful inside and out. As soon as i walked through the doors all that came to my mind was that my perception of the "Stairway to Heaven" was totally wrong, because this looked exactly like my version of the "Stairway to Heaven". At first I didn't have a clue as to what i should do and where i should go, but i was greeted by a staff member right away. I am very glad I was given a very professional and courteous welcoming. There is so much space, and around every corner there is something different. There are many different amenities offered at this library.I will list a few that i spotted and am aware of.There is a wide range of Fiction/Non-Fiction Books, Children's Books, DVD's, CD's, Magazines, Audio Books, and much more that i'm not even aware of. They have free Computer Use, Washrooms, Wheel Chair Accessible, Conference Rooms, Children's area, Teen's area and much more. I could continue to go on for longer saying how great it is and a bunch of other stuff, but i'm sure you get the point already. Just give it a visit and you will see what i mean!!!
Absolutely beautiful building. The architecture here is absolutely amazing and breathtaking. It had a wide selection of books and many other things. It’s nice to see that the archives are in a more accessible area as compared to the old building. My only issue is that it’s difficult to find things. There’s little to no signage to tell you where things are located and the only map is on the main floor by the entrance. You’ll likely find yourself winding the building looking for what you need.
The City of Calgary Central Library is 10/5 stars. This place is absolutely phenomenal. The architecture alone make this one the of the top libraries in the country. Outside of the obvious beauty this place offers a lot for the community and its visitors. There is something for everyone inside beyond books. There is a play place for children, a dedicated area for teenagers (no adult zone) and lot of computers. I really enjoy the inspiring environment the place offers. This library provides people with the tools and inspiration they need to be successful. For example, there are free meeting rooms for public use. This isn’t just a library. It’s an inspirational laboratory. You must check this out if you haven’t already.
It was awesome and I’m so excited today to see this building after 1.5 year living in Calgary today (0226/2020 1:40pm) i had a chance to see it in person. Great architecture and modern style of a library lot of memorabilia. Very bright But the staff in the game room area doesn’t want us to be there (me and my wife) it’s around 1:40pm . As a parent we just accompanying our 2 teenager son 15yo and 17yo they are just playing PS4 just to experience the area for a few minutes so we start to sit on the square sofa but the staff warn us politely that “sorry this is for a teen/kids only” at first we thought it was for a sofa that we are not allowed to seat. So we go back to our sons chair they’re still playing PS4 and the staff told us again that “sorry you are not allowed here only teenagers, sorry” well finally i get it ???? so me my wife and 2 kids stand altogether immediately, and leave the area. Straight down to elevator and leave the building. Heartbroken. Well it’s supposed to be a perfect and a good day experience turn to a sad day for us. I don’t know if I’m gonna go back there again. But it was a great great building ????
The library is awesome! Great service, great books, great architecture, great ambience. I loved every bit of my time there. The coffee place makes a mean latte as well!
Fantastic architecture and beautiful interior design. I'm sure they have a wide selection of various books to borrow, but this review is primarily for the "tourism" aspect of the area.
Great place, amazing architecture and a huge library of books. They have a variety of things you can do such as audio and production rooms, a teen room, meeting rooms, computers to use and to borrow, and of course, lots and lots of books! I would definitely recommend going here if you're in the area, you wont regret it!
First time here its gorgeous on the inside and out, many levels with Elevators and friendly welcoming staff! 100% recommended to check out if you ever stop by in Calgary.
he Calgary Central Library, also known as the Calgary New Central Library (NCL), is a public library in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and the flagship branch of the Calgary Public Library. It is located in the Downtown East Village neighborhood and opened on November 1, 2018, replacing the existing central branch in Downtown Calgary. The four-storey building cost $245 million to construct and was designed by American-Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta and Canadian firm DIALOG after the two firms' joint bid won a design competition in 2013. Their design features an oval-like form and an interior with a large central atrium with a skylight. The building is elevated one floor above street level to accommodate a light rail trackway below as well as a public plaza. Planning for a new library began in 2004 and was finalized in 2011. Construction began in 2013 with the encapsulation of an existing CTrain light rail tunnel portal; above-ground construction of the library itself began in September 2015. The Central Library is located along 3rd Street SE between 7th and 9th avenues in the Downtown East Village neighborhood, adjacent to the Calgary Municipal Building. The CTrain City Hall station is located to the west of the library's northwest corner
Today, being a guy who doesn't use the library very often, was pleasantly surprised at the services possible at our fantastic new library. Architecturely it's a absolute marvel, small details wrapped in one fantastic package. I'm a prouder Calgarian today.
My favorite library in the world because of how easy it is to navigate, browse for books, and find a quiet comfortable workspace for the day. I think most of the praise for this library’s beauty and open-concept has already been said. My main addition is to say that it is incredibly user-friendly to search and browse for books. As much as tall bookshelves filled with novels are fun for the aesthetic, it’s overwhelming to try browsing the shelves. The Central Library’s shelves are shorter than your average person, you can easier see and access every title, no need to ask for a step-ladder. There’s an online catalogue closeby if you ever need to find a book, and following the numbering system is easy enough. I could easily spend a whole day here.
A must visit library with amazing architecture, facilities and peaceful ambience. Nice to see a bookscalator inside.
Great place to use the computer in silence and concentrate on your work
Very nice building. Really nice exhibits
Really big
Really big
Nice, quit environment
Beautiful building and incredible community space. Worth just walking through.
Just recieved a uncomfortable feeling here at the library, so i brought a coffee and a donut with me to study, and apparently theres no food or drinks aloud on the 3nd floor? I didnt know that as there is no signs visable in these areas, so i felt harassed and embarassed that this worker caused a scene over a donut so i threw it away as i was asked to and the worker continued to bother me so i told him to stop following me as thats uncomfortable i felt like i didn't do anything wrong, and its like he kept rubbing it in my face, and because i told him to stop watching me he said i can get banned from here and now the security is patrolling the floor as if i did something bad and thats just harassment, who do i make a report on about this?
If you're interested in audio books don't bother coming. Their collection is rapidly shrinking and they aren't wanting to build it back up. They won't even accept donations (they just sell any donations). Basically they want you to stay home, download another app and wait (weeks) for the download to become available. Some library...
Great experience
The architecture itself is remarkable. Add to that the convenience of wifi and charging stations. It's a good thing they didn't put power outlets in study tables. Staff are professional and helpful. Parking is expensive though, but same rate everywhere.
One of the most wonderful buildings I have been inside of. Part museum, part amazingly designed bookstore. The kids section has a two level climbing structure. The teen section has board games and video games. Child minding. Giant chess. Little cubbies to curl up in. Books representing so many cultures, and so much more. A great place to just explore, or bring kids to spend a couple hours. (So many children playing and reading together!). And there is a Lukes cafe to perk up. Incredibly designed, a must visit.
Lovely place to visit with fantastic architecture
This place is amazing! Beautiful building, books, computers, a place for the little ones to play and read. A great place for teens to hangout as well. It's perfect for cold, rainy days when you dont know where to go! Parking is a little hassle on the weekend but well worth it.
Amazing architecture. There is no reason to NOT visit this library...you will find treasures in every nook.
This is the most amazing community space I have ever been in. It's so much more than a library. My daughters would get lost in here for days there is just so much to do. The space is bright and open with tons of natural lighting. There are meeting rooms with Smartboards that you can use for FREE! Your library card gets you $5 worth of free printing per month. There are so many different types of seating and tables. This is truly a community space.
im totally digging the projection of the upstairs lounge for musicians and youth
Beautiful space, was a bit loud from the kids area but not too bad. Overall a great place to explore
Love it there! Something for all ages! Anything but boring!!!!!
Open and airy. Wonderful, friendly design.
Smart design, cutting edge.
Fancy library. Feeling relax when I am here.
An Architectural Masterpiece.
Friendly service
horrible place to study at !! more like an airport than a library !!so loud and busy ! with losts of kids screaming! nice architecture tho!
Love love love this library thanking you for doing curbside pickup <3
This is an awesome space, with an auditorium, a play-place for kids with playground type equipment, computers on the 3rd floor with printers easily accessed. I'm not so sure it's the most functional use of space for a Library, but it's a beautiful place to visit and do work in! Note: With a library card, you can book a space to do a meeting for free!
It's a beautiful library with amazing architecture. However, it has its shortcomings; many tables have no power plugs or wall sockets, I thought this wouldn't be a problem coming in since we're in the digital era where a huge percentage of the population own at least one electronic device; as with any library it can be loud, even in the 'quiet' room on the 4th floor; I found it disturbing that a number of people were taking pictures of people studying in the quiet room, they were probably from the tour group (also, is a tour group really necessary? It's a building with 4 floors and there are help desks). I like the library but I thought it would at least be on par with the university's TFDL, I guess not.
Calgary public library is one of my favorite place to study and take my son for activities.
The more I visit the new location the more I hate it, the outside of the library doesnt look or feel very welcoming. Literally any other library in Calgary feels more welcoming.
What an addition to the city and to East Village. Such a beautiful space with great amenities and programs.
The Central Library is an amazing place for young and old alike. It’s an architectural treasure in a city that is often void of much to look at. The book and resource collection is wonderful and the other play and activity areas for kids are worth the trip. With a seamless integration with modern technology and other community resources, there is literally something for everyone.
This new library is architecturally beautiful and feature-rich. There's lots of spaces for reading or working. The kids area is nice but it gets pretty crowded and the space is not very inviting for reading. Once you leave the kids area, the spaces for adults are nicely organised and provide a good environment for taking your time while browsing for books. There are good parking spaces around the library and is very easily accessible via public transport.
Great space BUT zero quiet spaces to work in for individuals.
The Calgary Central Library has great tours and shares lots of information about this new, $245 million dollar building and access to 450,000 books, in the Calgary Library System. One of the places to see, for sure, with great architecture, a coffee shop, interesting library concepts, everywhere we looked. Thanks for the comprehensive tour .....
This building is the best building in all of downtown. A beautiful spot for all ages, including a designated kids zone which despite the library being relatively open concept still has great sound proofing. Accessible snacks, great for students, and anyone looking to read.
Beautiful building, very clever sound dampening features everywhere you look.
It’s a huge library to browse and study. It’s a must see if you are visiting downtown Calgary. The architecture of this building is mind blowing and picture worthy. They actually allow people to have pictorial here just remember to keep it ???? . ????
Spectacular new library. I’ve visited for a few meetings. Must be seen to be believed!!
Aesthetically this is a fabulous space. There are many nooks and crannies to accommodate quiet solitude. Offers many amenities that you don't usually find in a library. Great place to explore.
worst library ever for studying with friends. good luck finding an outlet that's not in the silent room or cubicle.
Fantastic piece of architecture. Beautiful building. Has so many great spaces to book for free if you want to meet with others or study
Very nice library new. And it has more space.
Fantastic architecture, loads of intriguing curves. There are lots of computers and meeting rooms, a very good place to study or host meetings. There is also a two level children's play space located within.
Love the new library. What I love most is what it does for people needing help. Tons of free classes and ideas to learn. Free printing with your card up to a certain amount. Tons of great areas for kids and teens. The selection is alright but with it being so busy it's harder to find what you're looking for but I always have a great experience. We need more of this in Calgary
Very nice library
An incredible building, quiet interior, plenty of room to work or study.
Stunning buidling with tons of different events always happening. Great place to study
Incredible part of the city. Great to visit with friends from out of town.
Kids friendly lots of things to do here for half a day. Summer time will be great time to be in Calgary downtown and visit the Central library.
My first time going to the Library for the Yoga Class. Library is amazing!!
Architecture is stunning. Beautiful building with a lot of great features. But it's so loud... Wouldn't go there for studying
This is an architectural marvel! There is an amazing amount of wood throughout the building with curved staircases, and an absolutely beautiful entrance. It was fun to be on the 4th floor and seeing the c-train come out from under the library. Will visit often!
What a beautiful , and Nice cultural space The design is just incredible and it is easy to go around. Nice coffee place inside
How epic is this place. One of the most modern and sophisticated libraries I’ve seen in a long time. They have resident artists, historians and engineers which makes this a vast knowledge hub. Also, you are able to book professional recording studios at no cost I believe. Also a dedicated newcomers to canada section to help with anything you might need to settle in. The architecture alone will take your breath away. Go give this one a visit.
Amazing building with lots of space, seating and natural light.
In a word, impressive.

Absolutely stunning architecture, an oasis of peace and quiet. I can't wait to come back again, this place is probably one of the most beautiful in all of Calgary. Rupert Brooke would be amazed, I'm sure.
Nice place and very good services
calgary public library ideal to make your study meetings you can get a diversity of books you can download books through the library page listen to audio books, movies to register you can go with your ID or passport and they give you a card so you can have access to all the information you wish to investigate and there is no cost to register
This library is the latest tourist attraction in Calgary - I know that when my relatives come from out of town, this will be on the list of day-trips. My dad came for a visit a little while ago and I took him to check the place out, he was very impressed - we had a coffee at Luke's, we walked all the way to the top floor and watched trains go by - and I showed him my favorite section, the graphic novels. He really liked seeing the newspaper/magazine section. I would like to take him again on a Sunday when it seems like there are tours. He was amazed that the books that I request are just waiting for me - ready to be checked out! He is also amazed that the check-out stations are 'self-serve' - no waiting in line, very efficient. I took these things for granted, but in his small town library this isn't how it works.
Thank you so much
An incredible building with everything and more for a library, even a children's play area!
Beautiful, the staff is helping but a lot of notices. I tried to focus and study but some people were talking so loud and continues that I had a headache. So annoying.
The Calgary Central Library is one of my favourite places on the planet. I go here in the evenings to assess high school assignments and experience the magnificent space.
Fantastic architecture. Something to do for Everyone. Vast supply of resources for whatever research you need. Also good place to spend some leisure time. They even have a little cafe in the library. I've been several times and would continue to return. Kudos to the city for providing such a wonderful resource to its citizens. Definitely a place to visit in the city whether you're visiting the city or live in the city.
Very impressive area with both artistic and cultural history in one landmark. The building itself was inspired by a chinook, that's why we can see the shape of the big curve. I hope all calgarian can well use the functions of it.
Great architecture and nice space. Although it cost about 245 million dollars they seem to have invested very little of that on their wireless network. The wi-fi sucks big time anywhere on any floor and staff seem to be lost and have no clue but to offer you a wired workstation. Internet is the essence of any modern library. Without reliable internet most people won't even step in any building no matter how magestic or state of the art pile of metal or concrete. The erra of paper books had been folded once and for all. The future is for ebooks and internet applications. Also not enough garbage bins and the ones available were not strategically positioned. Add to that lots of wasted space, they need to redo the ergonomics. May be they need to hire better IT professionals to map the routers, repeaters etc... better and take into consideration the signal distortion by concrete and structural steel not to mention the vibration of trains. I will never sit there again to use the useless Wi fi, instead I will head to either Shawnessy or Fishcreek library where the wi fi is superb Unfortunately, most if not all of the disgruntled staff from the old library are part of this piece of art. I would have hoped for a new dynamic staff to match the pace
Fabulous building. Very cutting edge.
Beautiful library with an amazing architecture. This library is full of books of all kinds, from entertainment to science and art and also has a lot of open spaces for everyone to read and study. The building in itself is truly a piece of art with the use of a lot of wood, which makes it more alive and approachable than a lot of other type of material.
Amazing building!
Great place to sit down, chill, maybe get some work done or play quite games with friends.
If I had to choose between spending taxpayer money on a stupid blue ring, or this, I'd choose the library every time. There's almost every genre of book, you can think of here; it seems they bought new books for the location. They have many places to sit with great views, bookable study room, and a coffee shop. There's even some cool accessibility options, like large print books and magnifying stations. The entire place is (seemingly?) Wheelchair accessible. I came here to volunteer for Read Letter Days. I got to read books to daycare/kindergarten children for about an hour. They were very cute.
Just amazing - worth the visit whether or not you are a book worm!
The reason that I'm given 1 star to this library is that they do have a mini playground for kids on the level 2 is very dangeroust. Not sure if the designer who designed that was drunk or something but it's very dangerous for kids I have seen kids Fall and heard themself on those stairs.
Nice place
I used to visit the old location every week. It was so convenient and easy. But now it's in and out, just to pick up my holds if there are any. I find myself cancelling my holds just to avoid going there. But then I guess I'm not really the target demographic for the new library. Too old. It seems more of a child care center now. I've seen parents come in with their kids, spend the entire day there and leave at closing time without even cleaning up after themselves.
Very spacious building and lots of newer programs. Take a library tour and you will discover there is more happening than you knew about.
A beautiful library. Oh right and the books are great too! 4 floors filled with with books/ebooks/audiobooks/movies/tv shows. Not only that, there are computer stations, meeting rooms you can book, a lecture theatre, a café, and various resources for job seekers. Few staff and volunteers wandering around but that's probably because the library is huge. There's a ton of open space and is accessible to visually impaired/wheelchair users. There's dedicated sections for children/teens as well. The 4th floor has a study space behind the elevators with desks/power outlets. The views on this floor are immaculate. Tips: - membership is free, just sign up if it's your first time - there are kiosks to browse their catalogue. You can put items on "hold" ahead of time and pick them up. Books are signed out for 3 weeks at a time and you can renew to keep them longer - free printing. They give you a 5$ credit per month which is good for 50 pages black/white or 25 colored - plenty of events take place so check their website for they offer per week - you can book tours to learn about the building itself - take the time to explore! It's one of the best well designed buildings in Canada. The sheer size will surprise you so have fun!
Such a beautiful space. I could spend all day here! My kids enjoyed the kids area.
It is truly an architectural masterpiece! Our city has some of the most beautiful buildings in the country and the designers and architects sure did a fantastic job on this project. It is open and inviting and a complete transformation of the other original location.
If i could give this place a 0. I would. Not easily accessible to those in wheelchairs. One elevator for a massive library, staff come up to us with rules and policies that have NO visible signs. No snacks allowed for students studying. No kids allowed in the upper floors. This is a pretty building but extremely disorganized and impractical. Tear it down and start again please.
A must visit if you're in Calgary, amazing collection of books
The staff are great, I love this place.
not.enough.outlets. aside from the 4th floor's secluded studying area, isolated desks and group rooms, there are not enough outlets for people to use if they want to use tables close to the windows and all.
It's beautiful. Lively. Bustling community hub. The families love it. The teens love it. Fantastic meeting rooms -- easy to book. And plenty of events and programs to enjoy!
Amazing study work place, needs more awareness of what goes on however.
View of innovative holy water dispenser in the Luke's cafe on the basement level of the central library in Calgary
Its a gem to behold! Great selection of materials!
Beautiful but desperately needs sound proofing on the reading room. I’ve got decent noise cancelling headphones but not everyone else does. I’ve never been to a library without a quiet reading room, it was a strange oversight. Glass would likely fix the problem. The music and community stuff is great there just definitely needs to be at least some separation between study and play.
Great library experience. Beautiful architecture, great atmosphere
Amazing place with nicest of everything!
Amazing library super cool inside and out
Really cool place!
this feels heaven when im here.
I absolutely love this new library, nicest one I ever been to
Must visit place in Calgary. Its like crafted with excellence. Great resource for everybody. Always something happening at this place.
2 stars because it's not really a library in the quiet sense. You wouldn't be able to study here in peace. Lots of people on their phones talking and in groups. The whole purpose of this library should of been to be a place people could go to educate yourself whether studying or reading but it's more of a place people go to talk. I'm sorry but that defeats the purpose of a library.
I love this place! It a place where I go to relax and just hangout. They also have many programs that you can participate in which I love.
I can only talk about how beautiful this building is and how large open and user friendly it is. I have never seen a library like this before. The architecture makes it worth a visit. Free entry. Nice coffee shop. Spend some time in the magazine section just to get an idea how extensive the collection is.
This place is gorgeous
love the place
Only 2 elevators & their Very! Very! Slow! Seems every time I need to use the washroom on any floor their closed for cleaning for a long time! Maybe just bad timing but it happens too often? Too many stairs to climb when your waiting too long for an elevator! On the positive side there are lots of computers to use & so far always one available when I go there! Except for loud & obnoxious people that are allowed to stay on the computer around you too long, I do appreciate having somewhere to use the computer!
Very nice! Very very nice! Vancouver Central Library, eat your heart out. I don't understand why libraries are being used as day care spaces for very young children. However this building appears to wrap their space in glass, so the entire open plan building should be reasonably quiet.
Clean, quite, perfect As a civil/structural Engineer, any time I go there, I spend a very efficient time there.
Beautiful and huge!
Awesome design ! Enjoyed it .
Great space
It is a beautiful architectural place that was done completely in wood. Books from all over the Calgary area, and in other languages. There is a children area and teenage area with the top floor being a big conference room and with good security. I truly did love his building????
Today, my partner and I decided to visit the library for the first time. We were thoroughly enjoying our time, from the helpful front staff, the fresh coffee from Luke's, to leisurely strolling through the space from the ground floor working our way up. Everything was going well until we were on the 3rd floor, when we were drawn in by the sound of a guitar being played in the library. We sat down quietly in a clear, open gaming area, enjoying the music and games some teens were playing on the TV. This is when we were met by a staff member hostilely confronting us in a very serious demeanour, first with a glaring stare and then approaching my partner (who was seated) from behind. He says, and I quote "this area is for teen only, so are you a teen?". With such a hostile and rhetorical question, naturally we were dumbfounded. I responded, "you could've just kindly asked us to leave". He ignored my comment, and responded with "NO, I have to ask that, are you a teen?" This was when the staff member crossed the line, and we left the area. You see, there was a sign (which I saw walking through the open space), that stated: "TEEN Welcome! This is a safer space for teens 13-19 only. CENTRE" (Picture uploaded to this listing) Since the sign did not specifically say "adults prohibited" nor does it say "reserved for 13-19 only", AND there were adults in the area, we continued walking as it was an open and welcoming space, same as the 1st floor Children's Zone which was bustling with energy from both adults and children alike. How wrong we were. This was an extremely inappropriate, and confrontational experience that took place, over a non-issue. We decided we had to speak with a library manager about this, and the front staff once again was very helpful in coordinating our meeting with one. Tess, the manager we spoke with, was exemplary in listening to our concerns. She helped us as best as her role will allow, within the confines of rules and regulations, and we understand that. The issue here is that NO ONE, even if one was exhibiting unruly behaviour (which we most definitely were NOT), should be confronted by a staff member in such a hostile, confrontational, and escalating manner. As I said to the staff member, and I repeat - he could have simply courteously asked us to leave. Now in all of this, I can't help but wonder if this staff member (whose name we have) may have in fact been following policy as he alluded to. Or, was this simply employee misconduct that needs to be addressed? If the former is accurate, then I am formally requesting the Calgary Public Library for a copy of the said policy and an explanation for the staff member's action, as I do not wish to place blame on an individual when this may be a larger issue. The whole experience with the staff member was creepy, and it is truly inconceivable this is happening in Canada.
This huge library is an abomination costing over $200 Million thanks to our frivilous spendin' mayor, Nenshi. The original central library was good enough with not that many people in there. Edit: It's also Nenshi's fault for letting so many people in, that forces so much money to be spent on useless projects.
The building is nice looking, but not enough staffs to help! The self check out machines not working properly ( not just our, others too) ! Too much money as the tax payers paid for not the value should be!!
Everyone in Calgary who likes to read knows this library. I missed being there so much reading my best novels. It is my best place in Calgary, and I can't wait till it is opened again for public.
What a beautiful building! spacious and well laid out. Any ages can find something to do or read in this library. I enjoyed the walking tours esp the tour for the main library. I’m impressed with the many services and activities offered by the library. Truly enjoyed my time here.
a great place to achieve daily goals... but, study and computer areas need more silence
It is a modern library, the staff is friendly and helpful I love this library
Our Springbank Heritage Club went to the New Library for a tour. The tour guides were great, very informative. We loved the tour. The Library is absolutely breath taking. Welcome addition to Calgary.
Absolutely gorgeous. As well as the great architecture they have art, a children's playground, a short story dispenser, meeting rooms, computers and a recording studio. The children's area also has toys and the teen zone has games. And of course they have books, including a great curated section. They also have plenty of free tours and programs. There's something for everyone here.
The New Central Library in Calgary Downtown is so Awesome! So much room to study. With your library card, You have a monthly print credit of $5. Volunteers are so Friendly and Helpful, special mention to Adrian, who helped me and answered all my questions when i was there.
The staff is super friendly and the spaces are clean and comfortable.
It is beautiful
Very nice place for people to spend time. Instead of going to bars or something that harms youth, they can come here and get inspired purely by the atmosphere. Lots of books, very clean, and plenty of seats. Only nitpick I have is that the cafe is a bit pricey, but otherwise it's a very generative environment.
I think the library is more of a 'tourist attraction' than a study place. I was there to study earlier today, the noise in the library is unbelievable... even on the 4th Floor. Would really be nice if noise is regulated especially for ppl who wanna study there. However, the building is gorgeous and it's a really nice place to visit!
Can’t believe they closed the 7 ave / Macleod branch :( and reopen this one! I miss the old location with several floors :(
Love this building!
Beautiful place ????
Upsetting experience there today. There was a fight in the lobby by main entrance. Loud shouting with a lot of profanity. The anger and aggression seemed to be directed at the security guards who stood their ground but did not subdue/remove the man physically. Fortunately he was there with another man who pulled him (still shouting) out of the library. We were on the 4th floor looking over the railing. The shouting could be heard throughout the library. There is a noise problem (well I know CPL doesn't consider it a 'problem') in the first place. I knew it wasn't a relaxing place but am now wondering if safety also an issue. Maybe it's the sketchy part of town where it's located but I'd think twice before bringing children there.
There is not enuff staff on the top floor...when there is..there's only 1 person....they have 3-4 on the 3rd floor just standing around
Great place to visit! I was amazed by the Library! There is so much space, so much light, so many opportunities and activities! It's a cool place to spend your time (expecially for the booklovers, but not only for them)!
Went there after losing my wallet. Got a reflection done for my undergraduate class.
Beautiful, unique and is what a library should be. A place to explore, relax and read
It’s stunning, but too loud. The only thing that would make it better in my opinion would be for a quiet study area, not just designated as quiet but to actually have had doors and walls. I was there during the day and was told where the quiet study area was, it wasn’t quiet. The library iwas packed with kids two floors below but the sound travels. I think it’s great that people are there and enjoying it, but feel they really missed the mark on the quiet study area. Unless you reserve a room, there is nowhere with walls to escape the noise.
Cool architecture
This nice looking library is more like a napping center for drunks and crack heads, the washrooms even have garbage meant for syringe.
Nice that the homeless have a new facility to hang out in.
This is the most beautiful architecture I’ve ever seen. It’s a bit loud because of kids play around the library, but you can still focus on your study. Kindly staffs and various types of books. Best place in Calgary tho.
It was better than I thought it would be
Really pretty building i use to hate going to library's as a kid because it always felt so dull and dark now with this upgrade i would have totally gone. Its a great place to hang out look at a few books , i saw people complaining about the noise which i found not to be bad at all , if its that bad just take the book home? , i like the fact they allow photographers a space to work its a great way to get free media , and showcase our city! I love going here great spot for a day trip! Also they have a teen room which is great allows them space to hang out and make friends!
Great place to just chill, take selfies
Best choices of Books here. They also mail them for free to your closest library when you reserve online. Very convenient!
it feels like a museum, people just walk around and look at you working.
What an amazing and inspiring place! Calgary is so fortunate to have this library. I love seeing so many people excited about it and using it!
I wanted to use the laptops and asked how. She asked me for a piece of ID and a proof of address. I gave them some current mail and a treaty card. She told me treaty cards are not a valid enough. I offered sin number but she I'm not going to approve it because of the treaty card. Feeling frustrated.....
This is quite the building! and then we get our tax bill.... I guess it was conceived when oil and gas was doing well and there was a lot of royalty revenue and occupied office space. The one thing i really did not like is the security guards with a chip on their shoulder and poor skills. One guard was nicely removing a person and then a second guard came along and starting yelling at the person and completely escalated a calm handling, causing a lot of swearing and a big disturbance. Then their "solution" was to hit the elevator button and put the agitated person in a full elevator and not even accompany him! Get this guy all fired up and lock in a box with people???? It really lowered my feeling of safety in this building. Get Guards with proper training and loose the ego!
Awesome architecture!
Not even allowed to bring a drink in to this library. Terrible. No desks on the main floor where drinks are allowed. Dont go here!!! Garbage
This is a beautiful library. There is plenty of places to sit, a coffee shop, art exhibits, and likely much more that I have not yet seen. I have taken my child here many times, and we both love it. If you have not visited...you should
It's a very nice place to everyone. Adults can spend the day there. There are lots of things to see and to do there. The building is amazing. The cafeteria inside is very convenient. The children area it's so adorable. Kids will have lots of fun at the play area and there are many different kinds of books, puzzles, toys and programs for kids for many different ages. I love this place.
Spectacular architectural building! Nothing to envy to the greatest Scandinavian designers ‘ masterpieces. Very helpful and efficient staff! So many new and less new titles! Great events!
A beautiful place
We’re so lucky to have such an amazing library. Makes me proud to live in Calgary!
Congrats Calgary, this building is a piece of art!
Such neat architecture, and interesting displays to check out. Luke's coffee shop is a local gem and they have a location setup in here! The process to get a library card was quick and easy.
First 20 100 bucks gets a 100 grand I'm very honest
Very nice staff
Love this library and all the free amenities you can use with your library card. It’s absolutely stunning and you can even check out audiobooks for free. Easy location too.
The library from heaven
Amazing, inclusive community space with Western hospitality! Well done Calgary!
I spent the afternoon on the 3rd floor. It occurred to me that the library may close early on weekends. On my way out, I tried to use the washroom, and their rent-a-cop yelled across the expanse of the, not yet empty, library that I had to leave. I told him that's what I was doing and yet he tried to prevent me from using the washroom! He then hounded me across the 2nd floor when I came out. If you want the library completely empty by a certain time, then follow the basic rules of public building evacuation and announce at LEAST 15 minutes in advance that you will be closing, because people will MOST LIKELY need to use the washroom before they go. It's frustrating to think the staff need be reminded that the washrooms and their occupation is funded by the public's very high city taxes. So use some basic common sense when communicating with library patrons. It's astounding that someone with such low awareness is a security guard in a city position, and behaves like he's a bouncer in a local dive bar.
It gets 2 stars for the quantity of books and chairs, the staff however are ridiculously aggressive and rude to the public who use this PUBLIC library. Seems that the clothing you wear has some sort of signal that you should be …
To be quite frank, this isn't a library. Sure it has books and spots to sit but there's no quiet and constant talking. The clientele aren't there to work or read. They are the people who live on streets and take up the good tables and use the free internet to watch tv and listen to music really loud. Perhaps restructure the environment to be more diverse and friendly to those that actually need the space and have nowhere else to go. Very disappointed in the city. There should be more rules and guidelines so that people who NEED to be at the library to study actually can. Will not be returning, ever again
It is a beautiful place to visit. It is more of a tourist attraction and a day care rather than a library. We were there on Saturday (August 10) to study but there happened to be an event. Despite booking a meeting room on the 3rd floor and wearing earphones, we could still hear the chanting loud and clear inside the room. We cannot help but feel bad for those individuals trying to study who did not book a meeting room. It was just really loud and inconsiderate. Just so disappointed with this so called LIBRARY
Such a great place to see and explore.
It is the best place to study or read books. I spent a lot of time in it, and I will spend a lot too next days. It is quiet and comfortable. The team inside is always welcoming people with a lovely smile. I took that picture inside it on the third floor.
The architecture is incredible!!!! What an absolutely wonderful place to visit and have access to!! Only advice! Bring a drink and a snack if you'll need one, the Cafe does not serve anything but coffee, not even bottled water or anything for Littles to drink. The attitude of the person working there was awful, and the coffee was disappointing.
Surprised how much I liked it. Literally a breath of fresh air in this city -- a wonderful public environment.
Good service humble people
Waste of taxes
Great building. However, this place is more of a recreation centre rather than a library. You would be surprised at how other major Canadian libraries, such as the one in Montreal, are very concerned about noise and disorderly behaviour. This is definitely not a place to study and read a book quietly.
This new library is huge with a ton of books to choose from.
The staff is very polite and loved the huge section of travel books, I am spending more time reading cause usually I would be on vacation for a few months in the summer
We jonied one of the free programs here.My children absolutly loved the teacher. Her name was Susane. She was very nice and frendly .
Beautiful, fun, interactive, welcoming, high tech, useful spaces
Nicest library ever
Amazing library. Its has this place for kids. There is so many books and also books in french and spanish for kids and adults. Best library in Calgary.????
It looks like a huge ship, I was really amazed!
Beautiful architecture, worth going to see if you’re in town
Great place, nice look! Not the best place to study quietly though, more of a "museum" type of place than a library. Sadly, even the higher floor isn't quiet. There is bathroom right next to that special study room and you hear people talking and making noise in that corridor. The only way to get peace and quiet is to book a private room in advance.
Beautiful building, lots of areas to read and enjoy
Super nice building. Nice location with the tramway directly under it. Really inviting.
Kids love coming here. Better than being on an ipad all day and all summer.
Staff are very polite and friendly.
I was asked to leave for putting my feet on a coffee table. 1rst I was told this is unwritten policy they enforce at will.. Curious, I was told coffee tables aren't designed for that! That was the reason given for asking me to leave! One of the many listed design purposes for coffee tables is listed as putting your feet up on and getting comfortable! The staff was very rude to me! Culturally insensitive or favoring English tea stylings only, very rude!
What a stunning new piece added to the Calgary skyline. The most beautiful building we have, in my opinion. Very interesting architecture, very clean building, huge selection of literature for all ages with an overwhelming number of nooks to curl up in and enjoy. Since it is so immense, it will take a number of trips to fully explore it. I recommend going on a weekend and taking the train to avoid the costly downtown parking.
Nicest and largest library I ever saw
Nice place to read and relax.
Spacious place with kid's area. It's always nice being here
Best Library in the world. The staff at the Forest Lawn Branch are amazing.
A marvel of architecture and engineering but also rather sterile and cold. Very visually appealing and some nice features but I feel it lacks warmth and a welcoming nature that I like about other libraries. My biggest complaint is there is not nearby parking (Not sure if this is in the works). We went on a Saturday and parked at city hall. Had to walk all the way around which was super inconvenient with all the snow and the deep freeze.
first time I went today, it was so huge and very conducive to read and learn. The staffs are very helpful too.
I love this library its fantastic and the TD great reading room is my favorite part of this awesome building. unlike every other Calgary public library where parents just come to have their kids play with toys and make noise this place has the play area sealed off so the open concept of this architectural marvel can inch a little closer to a library then a tourist attraction. The single biggest mistake the designers on this building did was put a beautiful reading room in on the forth floor and not seal it from the horrific noise that the building admins think are appropriate events to hold in a library, for example a swing class. The TD reading room is supposed to be designed after the great library's of the world where you can come learn and grow your mind in quite. This bring's me to my point please spend more of our tax dollars to take some glass and seal the wooden slats on both sides of the library then install some large glass doors to keep the admins mistakes out of this room of learning. You had the bright idea to spend money and seal the kids noises into the play area, please spend a little more to keep the library's noise out of this Great room.
Beautiful space! Love the coffee shop (and the soft serve, L.O.L.)
The facilities and the staff are excellent. My husband and I enjoyed our one week visit to this city and to this excellent resource for the city
Beautiful building! Great selection. Must see.
Impressive architecture and interior to go with the very thoughful programmes offered to users. Attention to details, communal place-making, great interplay of daylight. A must-visit for Calgary.
Great, modern facilities. If you are travelling with luggage however you will not be allowed entrance.
Its beautiful architectural building in and out , but certainly doesn't have the library spirit that is a must when it comes to libraries and even books stores , its more like entertainment center for kids and youth , extremely hard to read or work without distractions, very loud, old location was library by all means , too sad that they focused on the building and forgot what the concept is , library is place for books and peace not a project to impress people
Today I was heading to city hall for business and had a bit spared time so I went and check out the new downtown library, I am impressed that it have security to the door and also patrol the aera, but I agree there is lots of homeless people there and I can smell urine outside, but inside it's clean and have lots of new books and inside cafe to take a break which I need thhis morning.
I use the printers & copiers regularly. I haven't had to wait for a computer since the new location opened-such a bonus! Beautiful atmosphere & always some activity going on-positive vibes!
Quite and beautiful
Wow this place is underwhelming. Yes it looks great, it's brand new. Does it make sense, no? The open design and hard surfaces makes the entire space noisy no matter where you are. The "study" space on the 4th floor is open to all the sounds from the staircase and other floors. Theres always people waking around and talking, so bring headphones if you're trying to study. Furthermore, the biggest miss on this place was not having a train stop in the basement of the building. If you take the train here, you get off at City Hall station and cross a busy road and train tracks. Not exactly ideal or safe in my opinion. Too bad there wasnt more thought when designing such a large space. It had alot of potential, and could have been innovative, but it's just not there. Overrated in my opinion. Too bad the public had to pay so much for a half-product. BTW I feel like this space was furnished by IKEA and it can all be packed flat in a cardboard box and transported home for assembly with an allen key. This place is the noisiest library I have been to. It seems more like a community centre for people without purpose. Why do people just wander the place, and make noise around those actually studying? Speakers are defining in the washrooms. Overall, it's all show, no go. Waste of money because the function is absent.
Great architectural work with loads of books. Very organized too, check in and check out is seamless. Tip: order your books online and pick up at the library
