REVIEWS OF Thrifty Foods IN Victoria

Lori Smith

Nice clean store with a great selection.

Jee Yeong Jeon

The Pharmacy team is excellent. Mark, the pharmacist and his staff really care about the clientele they serve. Never too busy to answer a question or address a concern. I get my mom's and my prescription there and did I say the service is beyond extraordinary. Wouldn't deal anywhere for pharmacy needs. The store itself while a bit more expensive than other places always has fresh food and I appreciate that.

Geraldine H.

Nice place to get some veggies and bakery items.

Jose Goncalves

They sell groceries. Not to happy with purchasing 3 day expired dip i the dairy section. Always check your exp dates wherever you shop. I usually do, but this time I didn't. I do like shopping here though.

Paul Taylor

Great selections and great produce. A bit expensive but the price reflects the quality.

Trevor Blenkin

Not just a grocery for me. This place has saved my life on countles occassions. I fel blssed to live near a store where the people all know my name. I love you guys, Alex, Neil, Kara and Samantha. Never change, you keep this place going. I know no poem can ever bring back the magic of '07 but I like to think we're still all in our sections greeting people like mad. Keep it going you guys. I wish I had a time machine

Marz B

Love this location!..Clean, modern, and up-to-date grocery shopping to be found here!!.Take note other tired, old Thrifty locations..

Steve

Thrifty's is a good, mid-level store in the Sobey's/Safeway/IGA group. The James Bay store is surprisingly large and has an excellent product assortment for a downtown location, and it is currently under construction for a major expansion. It's nice to have such a complete store in the neighborhood.

Robert George

Nothing was thrifty, was sold moldy bread that still had time left before it expired, absolutely nothing was any cheaper than any other store and the quality was twice as worse.

Roger Huizinga

I like shopping a thrifty foods they have fresh fruit and vegetables good quality of meat but they can be a big experience but you gonna pay for quality now a days ????

Dani Proteau

Beautiful new renovations that cause 25 min long lines to buy a handleful of items. Go to Red Barn down the street instead

Adam Wolske

Staff are friendly and helpful. Store is clean and easy to navigate. I love having a Thrifty so close to me.

Carol Ann Johnson

Worst Thrifty's in Victoria. Prices outrageous compared to Red Barn. Gouging seniors who can't drive. No regard for Covid safety protocols and staff and cashiers often not wearing masks and not concerned about the welfare of senior or immunocompromised shoppers. I understand Fairfield Thrifty's is doing a great job keeping their shoppers safe! Shop there instead!

Danielle Greenhalgh

Clean and spacious. Really liked the health and pharmacy area.

John Gannon

Nice place and great prices

chloe grant

The mood lighting is a bit dark but otherwise, it's a very comprehensible store layout.

JRM

The only place to shop in James Bay. Deli is outstanding. For those of us the the US it's a little strange on packaging and brands though.

Jennifer Hemmings

Pretty good selection, a little bit pricey

Glenda-lee Pickit

Crowded but that's the area. For the most part staff is helpful. But check your boxes and bags because I've seen some bags of chips and boxes of food with two holes in it. Victoria has problems with rodents it's not the store by itself just a heads up

Sheryl Lange

I'm not fond of the layout of the aisles. Being differnt from other Thriftys, it took me a good bit of exploring to find a couple of the things I was looking for. I like the deli and food bar. The staff were good as well. There were options I haven't seen at other thriftys before. I will be back.

Anton Van Rooyen

I liked the layout :) Service was great Produce section was super nice Good variety of products and I found what I needed which was a pharmacy item (Advil)

Very clean, and fast friendly service..

brittany king

I've always had a lot of respect for Thrifty foods and the entire concept behind the Alex Campbell product. That being a concept that started from nothing but a man with a dream. Sure enough he built that dream into what Thriftys has become today. Although under the Sobeys banner now there still remains that sense of community and family that Mr. Campbell was so proud to be associated among.

Eddie Dawson

One of the staff did not treat our cake nicely, fortunately the cake was still delicious, the taste didn’t change. A piece of sliced strawberry dropped in the lid... then the birthday cake wasn’t perfect

Salim Abdelhamid

Nice store with quality selection. The staff was a bit standoffish to me. Perhaps its cultural.

Shirley White

Good place to buy meat and fish. Friendly staff

Ric Johnson

Maybe ill change my rating when the endless stream of renos is finally complete but as of now its impossible to find anything. Things are constantly moved and products that they once carried are nowhere to be found. Dont even get me started on the nightmare that is this parking lot.

steve betts

Great store. Love all the organic choices. Can't beat a 24 hour grocery store.

Amy M

Very friendly staff. Unfortunately, prices overall are high, as is the case at all Thrifty stores we've visited. The parking lot is very cramped too. Love this area of Victoria though, so quaint and funky.????

Levi

Even through upgrades to the Shop, they have always tried to make my experience good and friendly. The staff is great and friendly, always willing to help. I buy here on a regular bases and have never been treated as a stranger. Thank you for great service!

Nicholas Angeja

It's a fairly typical thriftys. The roast beef might be enough to bump it up to four stars. I did find however that the layout is sort of weird. And they don't carry wonderbread. I just wanted some Texas toast style wonderbread. That's a tangent anyways. Lots of self checkout which is awesome.

Billy deWild

Store layout is super confusing, items that should be together in aisles are on completely different ends of the store. Cashier did not know how to pack the bags and seemed overwhelmed and confused with the task

pele talia

Probably the best one in Victoria (Haven't been to all of them..yet). It's fairly new and it's huge. All departments seem to have something new/different than other Thrifty's I've been to.

Eden Sunflower

Renovations are nice, selection for seafood is meh! I have no idea why but the staff are always in a twist! Rare to see a smile or willingness to help!

Kate Harmony

Really just happy they're so close. The broccoli is always nearly off and it's expensive but super reliable for things like a good desert, ready meal, deli and fish.

rowers24

Great big store super clean & great staff.

Tyler Paquette

Thrifty's is cutting back on stock (items that have kept me one stop shopping for decades). I am having to go elsewhere. I hope it's Covid related and that they will at some point get back to how they were. The staff is fantastic. It's fun to shop there.

Sarah Phillips

While it works as a grocery store, it's not the same local, family-owned success story that we grew to love. Once the chain was sold, things began to go downhill. Now, it's just the same as any other corporate entity - prices are high, selection is average and the staff aren't part of the family any more. Would earn another star if they return to pre-pandemic 24-hour operation.

Evan Kurtz

Good environment but if you are a Walmart shopper then shop carefully.

Beaudrys Bunnies Entertainment

Great experience, especially today. One of the sale items was out of stock, so when I asked the manager if there was any available, he apologized, but told me that the gentleman standing beside him (the distribution manager) would be able to help me out! I acquired a rain check, with no fuss, and was on my way! Thanks!!

Marcy C

The parking lot is always a bit of an adventure but the store is laid out well for quick pop-ons or the long shop. Staff are friendly and quick. Aisles are a bit tight for my liking...but I'm a big guy so maybe just a me thing.

Michael Donselaar

Pretty good in terms of selection and price but it could definitely use some renovations. Great staff!

Heather Toner

The staff person named London was very helpful for guiding me to get things for my friend birthday dinner. Very helpful. Thank you

Edward Power

Excellent customer service, had everything I needed in stock!

Cher Hutchinson

Janice is great I recently had a stroke and her customer service makes my visits hassle free

Christina

The renovations at the store are coming along nicely, and I'm very happy that the store is modernizing to include self-checkout! Much faster, and not having to interact with a checkout person is a mild perk that I appreciate (even if the staff is delightful). Thank you for the convenience of letting your customer choose their checkout option. I'm excited to see the store once the renovations are complete :)

Rosco Daily

Bought a wrap from their sandwich counter. Came to eat it and discovered it was frozen solid. Why? Is it because they're made a month in advance? There's a limit to being thrifty...

King Cruz

About what one would expect from a grocery store product wise. A bit more expensive than others because of the '24 hours'... Its usually a circus too so be prepared for shenanigans.

livia moore

Friendly staff, 24 hour service(pre covid), newly renovated, great selection of bakery goods.

Lucifer Morningstar

Only thing I like is the Signature beef..everything else is way over the top expensive

Lesley Farley

Expensive prices, caters to the elderly and those seeking hard to find cooking items. Would only recommend buying what's on sale however, unless you're the monopoly guy.

Gary

Thrifty Foods is the only grocery store I've been in where the layout actually makes sense. Great selection of fresh produce and baked goods. Pretty hard to beat the hours!

Abby Bubiak

Nice and convenient! Doing a couple nights at a nearby B&B, able to get stocked up with tasty cheese and crackers as well as other staples for the brief visit.

Steve Tannar

I love this place because I hate shopping when there's a million people there. I've never waited long in line after about ten. Good bulk section and I love a bag there one day and they were able to find my business card to get it back to me.

Mitch Bourrie

Always good. Like that they have bacterial spray at front for baskets. Wish all stories had the same concern. Also that paper bags are an option---Superstore could take some lessons.

Sean Pollock

The store is great but their customers trying to use the store's parking lot leaves something to be desired.

Lucy Lusifer

Surprisingly larger inside than out. Very clean and tidy. Great deli with helpful staff.

Justine S.

Great location, but fairly pricey, so generally only shop for sale items

Graceless Glitch

Now that the renovation project is done , Thriftys James Bay is nice and modern, and somehow seems larger inside than the old store. Still a few things seem to be in places one might not expect , but one can be certain that organization and shelf space is a work in progress. I appreciate the new check out system for person operated cashiers , as well as self check outs too.

A Google User

Friendly and helpful staff. Good seafood section and section with prepared ready to serve dishes.

Jody Laurence

Constantly short staffed. The young staff are very polite, but have no confidence answering questions about products. The manager in the deli said staff are always calling in unable to work their shift. I asked why they do not hire experienced staff. The response was shocking " mature workers want too much money". Makes no sense , not to hire competent mature workers who will show up! Customer service and engagement should be priority. I think it's time for a rethink on hiring practices.

eric manning

Brand new store, great layout, great selection

Julian Brook

Clean, centrally located (if a bit hard to get to due to all the one way streets) and the staff is super helpful and friendly. The in store layout is a bit funky that but that definitely lends to the charm of the place when shopping. Just be prepared to drive in circles a few times as the parking lot is quite small and they share a parking lot with the Starbucks right next door, but on the upside the parking spots aren't filled for long and the waits are minimal.

Susanne Mougan

Definitely gone way down hill since being sold to Sobeys. High turnover staff. That says a lot. Generally just poorly run. Been using other stores a lot more lately.

Jason V.

A bustling and busy Thriftys in the heart of James Bay. It's got an odd layout because of the shape of building they're in, but they have a great selection of vegan products. It's clean and the staff are friendly, as is the case for all Thriftys.

Hazel V

The grocery staff are great. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Customer service at its best. Proud to have this store in my neighborhood.

Braydon Justice

Awesome store great meat and fish department's

Sheila Tranfield

Nice store. I know, it's just a grocery store, but in Victoria you have to be individualistic to stick out and this store was good. Excellent deli and fresh fruits and veggies. Very busy at lunch, obviously popular with locals. Not the cheapest but in this city nothing is. It was an 8 minute walk from Hotel Grand Pacific, our home for 2 days. Some nice lady was giving out free hugs on the corner. Love it.

Mac Bowes

Selection neither under- nor overwhelming, decent layout, quality meats

Tyson Nehring

This place is super convenient with its 24 hr operation. Prices aren't bad considering that it's open 24 hrs and they have a huge selection of everything you could ever need. Great customer service.

Bob Costello

Good local grocery and Pharmacy. Part of the Sobeys chain. The transfer to Sobeys has resulted in less variety and the introduction of the company's Compliments brand. The fresh produce and seafood departments are my favorite. There's also a good bakery. .

Jonathan “Jono” Holden

Went in to buy milk. Self checkouts ILLEGALLY don't take cash. Didn't know this until I got to them. Had to wait 20 mins in line because only 3 other tills open while 5 employees wandered around up front doing nothing.

Jordan Petrie

The natural path portion is great the rest of the little overpriced

Kevin Hoffman

This has been the third occasion where I've refilled my large supposedly filtered water containers only to get home and find out if they were loaded with chlorine. Tap water is far better than what I received. I have raised this issue with the senior manager before and they just seem to turn a blind eye to their fraudulent water provision system/supplier. Shameful!

Char Ika-Heimonen

Highly recommend! Very friendly staff

Alejandro Courtney

I'll stayed up front that I've already talked to the manager of the store with regards to the following incidents and his response to the incident was very good. But that doesn't negate in mentioning what exactly happened so a week ago or so I came in to buy some treats around 12:30 was the first in line and two other people behind me. As the male clerk was about to bag my food, a homeless guy came into the store covered in blood, his nose covered in blood as the security guard started talking to him I motion to the clerck what was going on and he proceeded to stop processing everything and went over to the individual. Leaving me to bag my own food and leaving the other two gentleman stranded. As I left and looked in the windows I saw the clerk taking the man off to the back. Why this young clerk didn't decide to call someone to come deal with it or even the fact that the security guard was already dealing with the matter made this place unsafe and literally made no sense given the context.

annabella reid

This is an older location and feels a little like it's jammed into a space it just doesn't fit. The quality of food and service is good though as can be expected from Thrifty's

Linda Graham

I was disappointed today when I went to the James bay store late last night and for the third day the lancia pasta on sale was empty shelves. I neglected to get a raincheck as I'm in every day anyway. Then this morning the shelf was stocked and the price up to normal. Price change at midnight and shelves magically stocked overnight so the pasta was in stock in the store but not out. I asked if they would honor the sale price in the circumstances and was advised that without that raincheck piece of paper I was out of luck. Unfortunate - as I know reputable companies that would. I've been a dedicated Thrifty shopper for decades. Now I have to reconsider.

Chris Mazurkiewicz

The store looks good after the renovations they just completed. Lighting, floors, and displays got an update but same core grocery store. Updated self checkouts are great for when I only have a few items and I don't have to clog up the full service checkouts for seniors and people with bigger orders. Seems like they have room for more products and have updated the deli, smoothie, and seafood counters. If you don't like the big paper bags don't forget to bring some tote bags!

Vegetable Assassin

Good customer service, fairly high prices on some stuff though, and they usually have disability carts (with large rear facing seat behind the cart for children/adults with disabilities, as well as baby seat darts and side by side kid carts (the ones that sit two toddlers side by side with pretend steering wheel, good place for family shopping if your willing to spend a little extra to avoid Walmart etc.

Chad Isnor

Too crowded and cold space. Parking impossible. Staff trying their best to help.

Sakshi Srivastava

From Vancouver I have never seen a Thriftys this big service is really good staff is nice during this covid the staff was not wearing any mask

Lane arndt

I had a little bit of a walk from where im staying but it was worth the walk i found everything i was looking for and more. The clerk i had was so nice and helpful and the store was just what i was looking for.

Dan S

Great new store!! Parking lot is a little wierd as all the buildings are not in yet!! But the store is amazing in side nice big isles. And huge selection!

Rachel Julia (MissHerby)

Wouldn't usually bother reviewing a supermarket but when my wife and I visit from Vancouver we always come here and it's only ever been superb. The few times I've needed service or help with something the staff have been lovely. So, credit where it's due. I think I vaguely agree with the other comment about the layout perhaps being a bit weird, but nowhere near enough to dock a star. The bakery goods makes me want to give six stars! Absolutely terrible if you're on a diet...

Graham Aro

Thriftys has a great meat department and a great bakery, as well as great fresh seafood (some of it still alive). They carry a wide variety products and some uncommon products. The produce is great. All this comes with a price though, so you'll feel it when you get to he checkout. They do have weekly flyers with weekly discounts, so if you keep track of those you can save a lot of money.

Christine Loder

great place that is really friendly that has lots of local food and non-local and will probably have the thing that you would want

Grunter Grimm

Cashier Amanda J at till one (customer service) was absolutely lovely and made my day today at around 530pm. Very friendly staff ????

Carly W

Since being purchased by Sobeys Thriftys has changed. Huge staff turnover, prices are 10-15% higher than comparable competitors and parking is very limited. They used to be a big contributor to the community but that has changed as well since they were bought by Sobeys. I only shop here because it is convenient to my home.

Katelyn Lowrie

There are some great staff members at this store. The only thing that needs improving is stocking more already cut up fruits and basics like Tropicana Orange juice and other things.

Kemtis K

Closed early. Didn’t change hours online, people are not going to the store everyday during the pandemic and cannot read signs posted on the door only a couple days in advanced.

Bruce Gillespie

Food Poisoning from Deli. I alerted the store, first by email & then called to say that the shepherd's pie in the deli self serve area had given me food poisoning and if they could please pull the product and be aware. They never returned my email or call & so this is my alert to the public.

David Dodge

Great welcoming staff and great selection of fresh products

Rhianna Robertson

It was clean and had a fast moving line up. However they no longer have shopping baskets for use, kind of a pain.

Jason McCracken

Beautiful store. Produce is the best around.

Kestrel Kirkpatrick

Opened 24 hours. Easy parking spots and seems to have everything that you might possibly need from fresh food, whole chicken, to flower and other things. Staff seems very friendly

Cheryl Meyer

Great staff. Clean, well organized store. Insanely high prices. Guess that's what you pay for.

Anthony

-Horribly overpriced -Produce is 'meh' - you have to dig through it like it was a value village, but it's priced like Holt Renfrew -'express' checkout line always has at least one machine out of service -often marked 'sale' items turn out to not be on sale when you're at the till, but way too busy to turn around and ask for a price check. If you have a vehicle and need more than a couple of things - go elsewhere. This is like a large corner store, and priced accordingly.

Leica Nelson

I like thrifties alottt.all local and fresh

Judy Roberts & Ed Donald

Really nice store. Great selection of products in a perfect location. Very clean and well stocked compared to some stores. Only downfall is their parking lot is small poorly designed, mostly one ways, many cars go the wrong way ending up in lots of swerving, backing up etc.

Alise Brown

Great place for fresh and above top quality food & groceries.

Jeremy Nolan

My favourite grocery outlet. Greatest selection of any area supermarkets. Fresh, varied, affordably priced groceries with knowledgable staff.

Cody P

My experience tonight was a big F for customer service and possibly an unsafe situation. I bought chicken for my family's Saturday evening dinner. It was marked down because it was best before the next day. When we opened the chicken it smelled foul and rancid. I can't get the smell out of my mind - it it was no doubt rotten. We went to return it for refund, and and was told "unfortunately with markdowns it's a roll of the dice whether it's good or not". We rebutted: technically it's still good until tomorrow -but she just said you should consume it the day before the "best before date" or freeze it. So according to the service desk attendee - it's perfectly OK to sell meat that is most definitely not food safe (after all it's "a roll of the dice"). Perhaps others who are not so keen would have went ahead and cooked it and perhaps become very ill. We got a refund but that's it... So upset with your store; we will inform everyone we know to be extremely cautious. The answer "it's a roll of the dice" is UNACCEPTABLE. Legally they cannot be rolling the dice on customers' health.

Rachel Kierszenblat

Very nice down town grocery store. They have parking!!! As a tourist, this is a very nice feature for us in downtown Victoria!!!

Kerry Gauvin

The customer service here is subpar to any other establishment I've ever been to. I've been given counterfeit money and argued with regarding the legitimacy, had staff roll their eyes at me and throw attitude around over a simple request that they're paid to do. I know it must be a crappy place to work but don't take it out on nice customers. There's a couple nice people but it's not worth going there since they bumped up their prices yet again, always a bit more expensive than anywhere else.

Carson Schmidt

This is not a big store but it is a great place to shop for food. The produce section is good. Their meat and poultry are also good. The deli section has cold cuts, cheeses and cooked snack and food. Vitamins and supplements are also available. Parking is limited due to construction.

Karen White

Nice central location and 24hr service, but can definitely use more organic and local products and better separation between conventional and organic products. As it stands now they are too intermixed so it's harder to find the limited amout of quality products. Though they offer some great frozen organic produce.

Μπάμπης Χαραλάμπους

There's a price for the freshness all ways very clean

Tima Taan

It is a medium grocery, but there are everything you need. The prices are similar to save on foods chain. The advantage is they close at 11 PM. Almost everywhere closes at 9 or earlier in Victoria!

Ellis Cole

The man responsible for directing shoppers to the till was rude and dismissive with customers. That is not the usual experience in this store but even once is extremely offputting.

Roxanne Peterson

It's a great supermarket. Very well stock all the best products. Also a great location in James Bay.

Andrew Downie

Thrifties may cost a bit more than other grocer options but the produce, meat and bread options are excellent and really make the difference. I've always been met with friendly customer service.

John Mcginnis

Nice store. Good option if you want quality products.

Ry

Great experience. Everything found that was on sale.

Sean Patrick Hamilton

Very poorly organized. Understaffed. Staff seems stressed and customers seem impatient with long lineups to the inadequate number of cashiers. I had some good experiences with a few pleasant employees, but mainly my visits there have been frustrating and disappointing. Although I live nearby, I will drive to SaveOn instead. I would not recommend this store.

John Sheret

I live on Menzies, beside Thrifty Foods James Bay, they have a 24hour construction licence and it is destroying the local's reasonable right to Quiet Enjoyment. At 3am, when confronted them, and after waking my family, I was told to "Go home"

Susan Lawrence

Hard to find things, staff nowhere to be found. Front staff un friendly.

Jillian Robertson

In the past month I have returned two items that were mouldy. The first item was turkey breast that I got at the deli. When I got home and had a slice it tasted horrible and there was a film of slime on it. The second was ‘fresh okra’ the first few on the top were green, but the ones below were mouldy. By the second day the whole package was mouldy! When I tried to return it I went to a different Thrifty’s (in Saanich Centre) and they would not take it back. I went back to the James Bay and the supervisor haggled with me before returning the product. Terrible product and terrible experience. They also would not take back package of Texan rice that tasted terrible. I feel bad for all the seniors who are stuck shopping for their groceries at this Thrifty’s in James Bay. Horrible horrible management and disgusting product.

BW Fritzler

Edit: The vinyl wood veneer on their newly renovated signage is about as authentic as their commitment to community. I do not believe that Thrifty Foods lives up to their community-focused mandate as they have disregarded the concerns of our community for a number of months by doing construction work during nighttime hours, going against local noise bylaws. The store has received a total of six noise bylaw violations and yet they continue to carry out construction work during nighttime hours. I am very tired of being awoken to power tools, concrete mixers, and mechanical lifts. I believe the store should stop the construction noise at night immediately and compensate neighbours.

Saul Andersen (FoodieCabbie)

Very clean. Friendly staff. New location big have everything you'll need in one convenient location

Ashley B

Tried buying just 2 items and ended up just walking out of the store due to staff incompetence. Tried 2 self checkouts and even after staff assistance at both kiosks they somehow couldn't get my 2 items to process even with 3 employees there. Next we tried a register and they couldn't process our 2 basic items either, we ended up just walking out after waiting some time at both payment options at the store. Used to come here for quick service but I guess I'll be going to Red Barn from now on.

James Walker

Belmont store is big.... clean, lots of selection

Steve Ford

Great selection of local foods.

D Brown

My new community grocery store one block away!! Love it!

Liz Bruce

This is a great location and has an amazing array of groceries available for purchase 24-hours per day/night. Friendly staff too. I live down the street and am able to use them as my walk-in pantry.

Anuradha Agnihotri

Nice new store. Great decor and size. Wonderful addition to the new Belmont Market.

Lisa Burns

Rude customer service rep I walked out

Tomasz Jankowski

Great little grocery store with great produce and we'll stocked shelves. New spiffy renovation has the place looking real nice.

Victoria Reusing

Nice new modern store with a great selection and wide aisles.

Irene Mou

The absurdity of deciding to do major, protracted renovations at a busy store during a global pandemic is on full display at this Thrifty's now, with whole sections being closed down and customers corralled like cattle into small temporarily constructed areas for produce and to line up to pay. I've never had a more claustrophobic, confusing, or confined shopping experience as I did tonight, and this is as BC's COVID-19 numbers are skyrocketing exponentially, and deaths are steadily ticking up. The inconvenient truth is that this place should be shut down right now if Sobeys insists, ridiculously as it does, on carrying out these renos at this time. Customers and employees alike should be outraged. I won't be returning any time soon, which is a shame. I'm also worried what will become of Thrifty's after all these changes have been implemented.

Wes Douglas

Best grocery store in the area

Jessie Poirier

Good service and we found what we were looking for.

ran kov

What a great shopping experience. Everything was well thought out, markers and directions were clear and the process very efficient. Thanks to all the very friendly and helpful staff too!

Karen Brutzman

Yes THIS place is dirty and in shabel Since goinv into doing some internal grades, i found it more convenient move to anoyher store where prices are lower are in stock.

Mike Attard

Nice clean and organized and friendly staff

Sean Harrop

Great customer service but this store needs to be twice the size

OBAX

Love Thrifty foods, the selection & the staff

Shawn H

thrifty foods has the best service great line of products buy a lot of local produce and other products very good place to shop doesn't matter which thrifty's you go to

Dana Jackman

While visiting Victoria we came here a couple of times. There are plenty of hotels around, & I'm not sure but not only does this store cater to the locals but visitors to the island as well. We found everything we needed & I didn't think anything was overpriced. The parking could be a challenge during the busy times, but unlike the rest of Victoria it was free while shopping.

Jason Donaldson

Nice place but expensive

Adimar Junior

Great. Friendly, helpful staff. Love the new store. Had fun using the bulk scale.

Athena H. Razis

Great location in James Bay with an effort to provide healthy local choices. Excellent staff, prices are a touch high or else 5 stars.

Amy A

Love the staff in this store , many of the same employees for the 6 years I have lived here in James Bay, staff make all the difference and the main ladies there are amazing, just I recalled all the names, thank you

Philip Schram

Very nice store lots good food!

sukhleen singh

Update your store hours....

CiDYYJ

Staff were rude. Covid line-up signage is poor, so they use an overly eager "traffic cop" instead. Wont go back.

Hector Perez

Product, service and now the awful store layout are not worth the incredibly high prices. I will be finding other places since this 'renovation' that they were made to do because of poor inspection results. Update: I have stopped buying most groceries here but occasionally stop in for things in the morning. Every time I go there are at least three people standing around doing absolutely nothing(one girl specifically). They are there to be doing the online shopping orders apparently, but while there are line ups all the way to the other side of the store they just stand there, leaning on something staring at you. No wonder your prices are so high these days. You're paying too many employees to do nothing while causing your customers to not want to shop there anymore because the lines are too long. Not everyone approves of those self-checkouts so many of us choose not to use them because we don't want to see the world automated. Some can't use them simply because they don't take cash. Even the people who are there to help with the self checkouts are Still finding something to do while nobody is using them. They are always walking around cleaning something. I don't see why you can't have an extra till ready to be used and those employees ready to jump in when there is more than a few people in line. Or maybe you just shouldn't have your online order packers doing that up front where everyone can see them slack off during.

What are the hours of this place?!?!?!! Everything says open til 10pm, I've shown up multiple times and have been turned away! This place is terrible for hours. Including tonight got there at 9:20pm only to be told were closed! What's going on here.

David Rogers

Beautiful, gigantic store - one of the nicest thrifty foods locations I've ever visited! Delicious buffet area with hot, fresh food being rotated frequently; gorgeous garden center portion, expansive pharmacy and supplement section, and the produce looks fresh and fantastic - best in the area. Staff were super helpful and friendly! I will definitely be coming back!

Kristopher Richey

Great new location. Easy access and have a hot food to go buffet bar.

Lynn Gullason

The late night staff are really sweet kind.. just try to avoid the hour a between 3:30 am and 4:30ish as they block off the entire store almost to clean the floors.

Ana Fernandez

Like the new store, still trying to find all my items but large and bright

Diane Kirby

Small city grocery store. (this ain't no Walmart) thank goodness.

Ren

This is an excellent store, with a proactive Customer Service policy. They specialize in local products which do cost a bit more, but are well worth the price. We moved from Vancouver and grocery prices are at least 30% cheaper, so we noticed a decrease in our grocery bill!!!! The staff are friendly, helpful and obliging if you need assistance -- they make you feel like family.

Stephan Butler

The late night staff felt threaten by me and made me leave my bag at the door. Why do you have security if they don't do their job?

Clive Pottinger

Loving the self serve tills, makes it so much quicker.

John Greaves

Love the new store. Clean lots of new and unique choices like unhomogized milk and generous parking too. Staff friendly and the person I dealt with was knowledgeable as well.

Barra Wayne

Very very expensive and doesn't always have what I want. But that being said, they have quite a large selection of foods and most staff is friendly. Not my go-to grocery store but its definitely good for late night last minute dinners.

Ayoub Family

Received the worst service from Angelina D. on Monday, March 6 at 7:46 p.m. Angelina D, a space cadet cashier who seemed more interested in what time it was, then doing her job ringing through my items...I had to ask her to also add the (two) oranges that I purchased to my bag ("oh are these yours?" she asks) and for the receipt! Cannot not wait for Red Barn Market to open in Capital Park, so that I can avoid the over priced, and undertrained staff.

nancy c

Fantastic community grocery!

Joseph Willson

Not a great store high prices fresh vegetables r anything but fresh ,manager spends most of his day yucking it up with the male employees , the only reason the James Bay store is still open is because the poor seniors have no way of shopping anywhere else, shame on thriftys.

Keira Klose

Fairly expensive for a "locally sourced" food store, but everything in the produce department always looks nice and clean abd fresh as can be. They are just at the tail end of renovations so they are back to closing at 10pm instead of 9pm ( which was a bit frustrating). I look forward to the days when they are back to 24hrs open!!

Holly Jackson

This thriftys has an amazing selection of great organic food. The. People working here are always friendly. Prices are very reasonable.

MH Graham

Good size grocery store. All the staples. Plus many specialty items. Nice produce section. Nice baked goods. Pleasant shopping experience.

arnoldandlinda

Great staff, excellent service, and the best bakery goods in town! Yum!

Arvind Tirkey

Nice store. Used to be open 24hrs. They cut back to 11pm. I wish they would stay open until at least midnight. There's lots of health care workers working until 11pm in the neighborhood. We all have stop going now as we no longer can. Super disappointed. I used to do my mid week shopping there.

Ronald Laberge

I went to Thrify's for $ days. I could not find the 1$ pork chops and asked an enployee where the heck they were. He didn't work in that department but found them. I had walked right past them. Every one is so nice.

Rebecca Raven

Open 24-hours with wide-variety of goods that far exceeds my needs. Good Pharmacy; lots of tasty & daily baked inhouse bakery goods; well-stocked fresh seafood selection. Staff always helpful and courteous. Thought 'Red Barn' might be a big challenge but it isn't (except for the roast chicken?) as Red Barn prices are a bit higher, and having less variety of goods available makes the extra short distance not worth the while for me. On the not-so-plus side: Sobey's, being a corporation, decides what gets removed from stock (based on nation-wide consumer purchases, which appears to mean you can eat as much or many of your favourite foods but if it isn't selling so well, in say Ontario, then forget it here in James Bay) and too often has meant a much preferred item (i.e. specific apples, frozen food items, brand-named packaged goods, seasonings, to name a few types of product) no longer exist in the store. Unfortunately, the selected replacement often doesn't match in taste or quality. Very disappointing. Sad to say, we were spoiled with the original Thrifty's. Oh, well...our new #2 bus route from James Bay takes us to within a block of 'Market on Yates' where the roast chicken is scrumptious! :)

Emerson Willer

Thriftys always has full stock and good quality.Lovely big clean store. There seafood is always fresh.

Richard Singh

I have been shopping here for over 13 years and find the pharmacy staff the best at communicating, being very helpful and answering any question I have. The seem to keep employees for a long time which shows they do something right. Store renovations coming along greatly with minimum fuss and great direction for customers

Andrea Rose

Beverly corners best parking.I hate taking my vehicle to millbay.Ive had more bu.ps and door dings there.Thriftys is always good .very friendly staff always willing to help.

Christopher Harris

Great chain of markets. Lots of veriety and we'll organized. Very friend staff. The fruit and vegetables are very well presented. The bottled water was a little hard to locate. They have a great bulk foods and baked goods section

James Jackson (jemasonn)

Very expensive..only one cashier..and the rest are self served..won't be shopping there again

rose cote

We love their bakery but you have to watch the dates because they don't reduce their week old goods!

Steffani Cameron

Great looking store! Lots to choose from - friendly staff - except who came up with the brilliant checkout idea? Incredibly long line ups. And when I say long line ups I mean 25-30 people lined up. Itll take you 45 min to pay for grocery. Been there 3 times over 2 week period at different times of day and ended up walking out I will go back Save on across the bridge.

Paul Martin

Prices in this grocery store are expensive. It, however, is cheaper and there are more choices than in the convenience store closer to our hotel. I guess its location is a plus hence the 3 star rating.

Mohamed Niang

I wouldnt wanna touch the freshly prepared food but the store is pretty big and open 24/7, so definitely very convenient

Da- Digger

convenient place , friendly staff, many choices , busy parking

Greg Holtz

Please update your hours on Google search. I drove all the way there after checking Google. It said you we're open until 11 p.m. You are not!

Morgana

Great location and helpful staff, best part is they sell The Very Good Butchers products ????

Mike M

Can't beat that fact that it's open 24/7 ! Perfect for me (somebody) that can't keep to a schedule. The bakery is great but the butcher is a nice option when u need a specific slice or request. The prices are a bit high with the pre- packaged meat. But you pay for the convince sometimes.

Graham Booth

Easy to shop and friendly staff. Especially cashiers are awesome and caring. They always have the most fresh meat, seafood, fruit and veggies. It’s guaranteed that they taste good.

Steve Newhouse

Nicely layed out. Clean and friendly staff

Nick N

Great service! Will be nice once all the renos are done and all the signs of whats what are back up!

Oleg Frank

It's huge and they have some nice features. They dry age steaks onsite for instance. Unfortunately I already had salmon in my basket when I saw that. Next time though...

Ellen Ned

It’s a nice grocery store with Pharmacy. Staff is friendly and helpful. Food items are fresh and my daughters really liked Apple Crumble. More of a family environment :-)

Liz Anderson

Quite expensive in comparison to Walmart for example. However some produce such as meat and veg tend to be better. Also these stores are local.

J Parker

What an excellent grocery story with so many great deals. Friendly cashiers. I'll be coming here again. ????

Linda Webb

Bit of an older grocery store but I love that it's open 24/7 and the staff are super friendly and helpful!

Sara Jonsson

I'm giving this Thrify's a 3 because I dealt specifically with the bakery department, not the whole store. First off, I called in a cake order and the kid on the phone had no idea what they were doing. He literally asked me if I meant the 8x12 SQUARE or ROUND. I asked the price of the cake, which he looked up for me - but when I went to pick up the cake, it was $10.00 over what I was quoted. When I mentioned this, nothing was done. I'll give them that the cake was apparently quite good, but I would never order from this Thrifty's again.

Lorna Jacobs

Today, May 14th I was shopping about 10:00 am. I selected a cooked deli chicken, as I usually do. To my dismay when I got it home, it was so overcooked as to be inedible. The skin was charred, the wings completly dried out. For $9.99, it was inexcusable. Please be aware of your quality control. Thanks

Jeff Grenier

Great grocery store! It has a real neighbourly vibe, always has everything I need and the staff are always friendly and willing to help. They go above and beyond with their home delivery. I thought not having a car would be difficult, as far as grocery shopping went, but this wonderful, inexpensive service is amazing and so appreciated!

M.A.D. Pursuits

Great Deli and produce!

Mohamed Zeid

Nice store good selection of things. Store is doing upgrades for the public. However, prices are a little higher than other places.

Cataphract Ish

Good staff. I love the produce section always full, always fresh Prices are a little high but at least shelves and everything are always stocked

B-lad Griffin

My Thrifty's location for almost 30 years. Thrifty Foods gives back to the community! That I respect. I always appreciate their free delivery service. Wheelchair accessible.

Jane Scott

I don't shop a lot in Victoria, but this is our go-to for meat, pain au chocolat and olives. Our annual visit during Thanksgiving week is always well-supplied by this store, although parking can be a little tight.

Daniel Jolly

A good clean conveniently located full service grocery store right in the heart of the city. Close to downtown and in the historic centre! Friendly and attentive staff and fully and well stocked. Full Bakery, florist shop, outdoor plants, health food section also.

Jackie Wymenga

All of their staff are exceptionally fun to deal with, I don't know why this particular grocery store has a interesting crew but it does. People that seem to care about everything. Hard to find parking spots there though, you can park underground around back if need be. Also pretty cramped and busy since it's the only store around, but not bad enough to go elsewhere. A bit expensive as well but not unreasonable. For people out east vacationing here, this is a Sobeys store, just called Thriftys in BC.

Caz Newman

The Belmont Market Thrifty Foods is a nice new location that has an easy layout to find everything you need.

Shannon O'Brien

Very clean well organized. Very awesome Produce Department.

Kyle Granger

Since Alex Campbell sold Thrifty's to Sobey's, the James Bay store has gone steadily downhill. The bakery does very little baking, much of the baked goods comes from a central bakery and the quality is uneven. the croissants are heavy, doughy and often stale. Employee morale is bad. The turnover in checkout is huge; the checkout clerks are usually new and poorly-trained. Finally, there's nothing thrifty about Thrifty's! Pricey is more like it. Alex, please come back and send these Sobey guys packing!

Rick Woo

very nice store there is an employee there that was very nice to me and helped me out with everything and his name was nathanael I believe he deserves a raise since i have never met anyone as nice and helpful as him

Wendy Neumann

They are very helpful. The cashier I had today, Shiho, was so efficient and helpful, and smiling! Thanks.

Phil G

They are trying so hard in these crazy times to keep their shelves stocked, staff and customers safe. Kudos to all.

shaun barry

Doesn't offer anything better than other supermarkets in the city. But it's open 24 hours and that alone is worth a 4-star review.

Willem Van

Not the least expensive place to shop but the produce is always excellent quality. That's what makes me go back.

Fran Johanson

Lots of wonderful produce. Premade salad selection is great.bi can find all my specialty foods easily.

Loves2bongtoke

Generally a great place to pick up groceries in the neighborhood. Good selection of food, a little pricey but it makes up for it in convenience and proximity.

Diana Marat

They were better before sobeys bought them out now id only shop there when they got a good sale.

Kevan-Jay Stevens

it is a great location for me to get grocery . so close to my work on the way coming home , thay have almost everything i need you a single guy , fast and easy

Maureen Gusway

Love this thrifty's the staff is amazing

Ed Christianson

Great place for grocery shopping

Matt Majid

Lots of cashiers! Even later at night. Keep em employed!

Chris Welch (Mogal)

Every Thrifty's should be like this one! Clean, well organized, very polite staff. Excellent covid-19 procedures.

Douglas Chen

As grocery stores got his is a nice one. The layout is good. Aisles could be a bit wider between rows but otherwise it's good. Easy to find things as aisles are.well marked.

annie lefebvre

When I shop in stores, great selection. However a bit pricy , everything is fresh. The delivery service is ideal for me, as I do not have a car. I’s strongly recommend going.

Mascie Dane

The pharmacist was very helpful. Even though the store is fairly small they had everything I went there for. Thanks Thrifty Foods.

Ryy1009 000

Prices are high, there is no local caught seafood, but they have a vast selection of groceries. The people are wonderful, too.

Bev Maloff (Chevybevy)

Great service and amazing place

A ANWT

I was at customer service for five minutes, as employees passed by saying there's always someone there. What would've taken a minute took ten.

John Wayne

Thrift foods avocados are great! Go here for all my produce.

Serena Baker

Parking is a nightmare at this location, but the deli food is always great and the staff are kind people.

jadey knight

Really nice store and lots of unique options. I enjoyed shopping there today.

Alison Likespickles

Excellent produce department and friendly staff

Linda Johnson

Waited at the bakery counter after being told "someone would be right there" until a snarky employee told me that they had all gone home for the day and no one was there anymore. Maybe put up sign?

S Jones

This location is amazingly big. Every thriftys I've been in has had a slightly varied selection. Love the baked goods here.

Daniel Menard

It's a grocers store as per usual.

Jul Dickson

Newer store, my personal favorite thrifty location. Good extended selection of grocery items compared to other locations and overall great staff.

Jamie Logan

Love this place but there are better private business that carry better and cheaper products elsewhere in the city. Being 24hrs is its only saving grace

Sade Ashby

Recently renovated at the James Bay location. Beautifully laid out, has a fabulous fish selection. Very friendly staff, well stocked.

J Matvichuk

Regularly the most expensive grocery post in the South Island area. For instance, bakery (good) and meat items can be $2-5 more than SaveOn or Fairway Market. I sometimes find good short-term specials on household products but Thriftys isn't my first choice for groceries. You can collect AirMiles, another I visit occasionally.

A Smith

spacious parking , fresh and local products

Gerry Weisgerber

Love the Belmont Market location! Well laid out and great selection!

Erick Linwood

I get that they’re a smaller chain in a “downtown” location, but c’mon. $5.19 for 6 bagels?? I didn’t pay this much for food when I was in Hawaii...

Janis Silver

When the brown paper bag I bought gave way they wouldn't just give me another one I had to leave my spilled groceries outside and go back in the store to put 25 cents on my credit card for a replacement.

L Senger

Great selection, really good checkouts, real good store.

Jessie Yu

During the past few months the employees have become short tempered and rude. Regardless of their challenges they should not be taking out their frustration on their customers. Stay away!

Donna Hains

Fricken delicious baked goods here, definitely recommend. They leave samples out to try and have a huge variety. Otherwise, it's a fairly modest grocery store, definitely has a simpler-times charm to it.

Chris Shipway

5 star service and cleanliness. Great selection of everything and visually pleasing throughout!

patrick child

Reasonable price Big variety of products Loved the whole chicken there :)

Phil Isaak

My neighborhood grocery store ...I can say its convenient but it is expensive and I feel that is tough on the demographics or the area ..seniors especially !

Peggy Wacko

Always clean and bright. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Jeremy Belyea

Enjoyed the shopping experience, well stocked and maintained, questions were accurately answered and check out went smoothly both times we were there.

Vivian Delaurier

Nice, Clean. Try the burgers in the deli.

Jeff Fransen

Too small for the number of people it serves. A few awesome cashiers but some not great. Usually has advertised items in stock.

Wanda G

It is mostly because it is close why I go to Thriftys but does offer better services than Saveon such as tailored butchering & the people seem to be more experienced overall. Selection is broad enough so to be able to get all things

Scott Henderson

Always great produce... sélection and quality choices...GREAT GREAT GREAT

Jeff Girardet

I love Thrifty Foods! This location especially. You will see Thrifty Foods all over the island. The best place to get groceries on the island. The people that work there are very nice and helpful. They have a great little bakery section, and I can always manage to find what I need. Highly reccomend

Ryan Smith

I just bought a Black Forest Cake, which was a block of dense choc cake that is covered in cream and cherry only on the top. The black forest that I know should have cream and cherry filled layers which make it fluffy and summer style cake, I am totally disappointed and I wish that they have a look on their cake quality.

Al Marston

Fresh produce, friendly staff

David Gebala

nice place with a lot of options

T RC

There's a Hindu lady that works there I have a go with her arguing she's always been like that every time I'm trying to shop.

Ernest Thorick

Thrifty Foods as a whole has great quality meats, cheeses, bakery products, deli foods and produce.... the downside is that it's a bit expensive. When i shop there I only buy items that are on sale. The bill although is 90% "sale" items usually ends up the same as other grocery stores regular prices.....

John Lacroix

It's great can't go wrong

Catherine Carson

Nice looking store, but I find their prices exceed nearly every other grocery store in the area.

Spencer K

Love this space!! Beautiful! Clean! Great shopping experience!

Bradley Blois

The reno during the pandemic was a nightmare. Really poor choice during an already chaotic time. Now that the reno is complete the store looks lovely but the new system for checking out is horrid. The noise from the sound system constantly blasting out which cashier is available is unnerving... Am I at Walmart???? And self checkout? Seriously... Thriftys is a store of days gone by. I used to really enjoy shopping there - it was my go-to grocery store. They had unique products and excellent quality. Now they just have high prices and too much noise - and they want me to use a self-checkout? Stop it. I don't shop there any more :o(

Deborah Chambers

Always a good selection of foods, with dependably fresh produce and great customer service. A little pricier than other chains, but that is the price you pay for cleanliness, variety and service.

Michael Hooks

Great produce _ friendly and helpful staff . Never shop anywhere else for my groceries.

Nick Last

Bakery!!!! Decent prices, good selection, good location. Only con was limited parking as it is in downtown Victoria. Had temporary renovations going on.

Kris Kozar

Great selection of foods and groceries from around the world. Prices a little higher than the big chain stores but fresh quality always.

Thomas Sinclair

Convenient, often pricey, mostly friendly staff.

jaden tyson

I just wanted to let you know that I went shopping with a senior friend of mine this morning who was questioned about the fact that she had bought two packages of reduced beef! She was asked to wait while the cashier had to wait for a supervisor to come and okay the purchase!, something silly was said about people buying too many of marked down meat! She had two small pkgs. and was very embarrassed! If something is marked down why should it matter how many you buy......it's for sale and there was only TWO packages. She has vowed to never enter your store again and I don't blame her. She lives in the James Bay community and has always shopped in your store, she will now patronize another grocery store!

Lynnette Kirkwood

Bought an Orange, Banana, Strawberry smoothie and I will NEVER be purchasing any smoothies from this store again. The smoothie smelt very strange and the smoothie tasted as though it was made with an unripe banana. Talk about poor ingredient choices... Someone needs to teach whoever made that smoothie how to correctly choose ingredients and how to properly mix them. It should be taste tested before bottling. The bottle says shake well (which I did) but I don't think you can shake the taste of poor ingredients away.

David Porfon

Professional, kind, friendly and just a healthy environment I've worked there in different departments and shopped there, and I know how much they care to give customers the BEST

Bromslee

They have good selections for groceries though the price tag is a little bit high. The good thing is they open 24h every day. That's convenient. My experience is that the few days immediately after a holiday are not good shopping days cause many things are just not fresh any more.

Gregory McGinnis

Great local produce

No No

Great BC supermarket chain with competitively priced fruits and vegetables. You'll find the usual grocery items, canned food, salad dressing, eggs, dairy, meat, fish, frozen and fresh organic foods, gluten free products as well as many specialty food items, a deli and an in store bakery for cakes and a wide range if breads and other baked goods.

Michelle Brown

For a small market it has a great supply of stuff including veggie and vegan options. Best to just pick up a few things you might need till you can drive up to Walmart and get the same things for half the price. Being called Thrifty's is hilarious and has to be someone's idea of a joke, as it's ridiculously expensive, but then it's really Sobeys so you know, what do you expect I guess. Good selection, terrible prices.

Florence McGregor-Foxcroft

Everything is so fresh and well displayed. Staff are top notch!

troy moore

Well its a bit better than ok but parking is slim and yep im aware there is also underground parking in the back below but the lack of lotto tickets after 10pm is a nuisance concidering its 24-7 except for a day or two in the christmas season.prices are higher than id like but its still reasonable and i will continue to shop there the staff are friendly, and they have all the departments one needs in a daily shopping experience bakery, pharmacy, produce, and the standard wants and needs of average canadian households.

Eric Nielsen

Nicely laid out but expensive

Denice Williams

Place is in a free fall. Used to have good products...now everything is low quality and expensive.

Sean Wright

Another overpriced place to shop, has varied selection - again it come down to what you're looking for. The Thrifty name is another misnomer, and like so many others, not the place to go if you want to save money.

West Coast Ghost Crew

I have found the staff here to be very friendly and efficient in handling my inquiries

Fong Deep

Newly renovated yet the higher prices do not offset the new layout.

Rick Hochhalter

Great new grocery store in Langford amongst a sea of grocery stores. Good parking, self check out and tonnes of variety. Love the dried apple slices

Roy Feness

Great variety on many items and really good prices. The produce had a lot of good options. The bakery and premade wrap trays are two favourites.

jack g m w

Great store but it's just too small to serve the entire neighbourhood. It could easily sustain like 20% more shelf space and another 2 self-checkout tills, but they do well with what they've got.

Wew Per

Rude staff. Don't mind paying premium pricing but expect some customer service. Jane at checkout is a disaster.

Darren Spyksma

Walmart continually has more stock and Thrifty's is making you pack your own groceries now because they can't afford staff. Time to move on to another functional and established grocer.

Rob Mercer

Bright, airy, great selection. Staff are friendly. It's a brand new store so they are still working out small stuff. Mainly the grouping of items such as some breakfast food in the tea/coffee aisle rather than having all similar products grouped together some are spread out in different sections.

Jean Noone

Bakery department was helpful and efficient-the free candles were a great throw in!

Sandra Walker

Great staff. Cheery and helpful!

deborah taylor

The renovations are amazing. Great cashiers and friendly staff. I am addicted to the potato salad in the Deli.

Tammie Bachalo

Roxanne Haddrell

Just in town visiting, but the staff was helpful and there was a larger selection of food than I had expected. I know it's there for the locals, but if you want to save a little cash as a tourist, this is a good place to do it. Nice, fresh food and friendly people.

Jeannie Ward

Although they have no beer or wines this is a full service market with deli counter and fresh bakery. Excellent selection of fruits, vegetables, meats and processed meats it is a real pleasure to shop here. They carry a wide choice of local produce in all sections. There is a great liquor store just 50m away with an equal level of fine service

Jada Leno

My fave food store.

Tavi Hay

Everyone is super nice at thrifty's and they always have a really great stock there. We happened to stop in at this location as we were staying in the area and needed to find a couple obscure items which they all had. There was a fellow who was working there who helped us find exactly what we needed and even walked us to the aisle where it was located.

Jimmy Grieve

Very good selection, and excellent fresh juice/smoothies.

Kennard Da Silva

It is 24 hours, which is nice, although nobody wants to help you in the bakery section or meat section after certain hours apparently. I had to return for cheesecake that I couldn't get to under the glass and I was disappointed upon eating it because it was dry and I had looked very forward to this.

john citulski

Just terrible. Minimal parking as they have construction ongoing. Worst is check out. The need more people on tills.

Alison Le Corre

Great selection. Friendly Service. Delivery Service. Parking an issue but there is more parking underneath the store when crowded. Love the breakfast bakery items and hot soup with other deli items for a easy lunch. They do birthday cakes and party platters as well. Also a in store pharmacy and florist and a small garden center. My neighbourhood grocery store.

Jennifer 'Nicci' Whitehouse

Almost everything I buy is expired, and the other day I found vitamins that were expired a year ago I told the one in the pharmacy he pretended to be shocked and he promised to clear them but next day they were still there I went again to the pharmacy told them for the second time and the vitamin is still there..cashiers are friendly except one weird cashier I met yesterday and out of nothing he asked me "do you have the accent?" I said "sorry? Accent?" He said "yes do you have the accent?" I said "I don't know what you mean? And I laughed so he rudely said "you can say nothing but haha haha?" I was shocked because what does accent have to do with someone checking out? And when I didn't get what he was asking and I laughed he rudely mocked me

Amanda Robins

We always shop at Thrifty's for groceries whenever we are in Victoria. It's basically the same as Safeway or Sobeys in other provinces in Canada. They carry all the same products but also lots of locally made BC products. They offer Airmiles on many products and on your total purchase. There is a deli and bakery.

Joseph P Duffy

Great modern store, but highly overpriced. Meat counter worth the value though.

Harvey Koffman

Staff are very nice but this isn't one of my favourite stores in town. Often come across rude/pushy customers while shopping here (might be the neighborhood, who knows)

Dana A

Under renovation right now so it's a little confused. People aren't great at following the flow within the store. Staff are trying really hard to keep things flowing smoothly and efficiently.

Subrata Chakrabarti

There’s a lot that’s good about this store — like the staff. They’re great here. But I’m really disappointed with the changes to the produce department. They did massive renos but added so much checkout space that other sections have suffered — the produce is woeful in size compared to before. It just means I’m more likely to go to Root Cellar or Red Barb now. But the staff are great here and if you shop for sales, you can do well — but it’s pricey without sales.

Denis Rodrigue

Well the Thrift'ys food that I go to is in James Bay. I like that they buy Canadian first and Vancouver Island first. However the store in James Bay is the busiest store they have in Canada. They serve 4000 people a day!!!! That makes for awful line ups and some disgruntled employees. Not what I want to experience when I'm trying to get what I need and get out of there. I really have zero idea what they were thinking when they renovated!!!!!!!!! Good blessed grief, they put the customer service area so close to the check out tills that there isn't any darn room to move at all. Worse still you use to be able to pay for your products at the deli, get that really good food and leave. Now I dread going on there and I am certainly not alone in this opinion. The Food Barn down the street on Menzie's has a great deli, better than Thrift'ys and much faster if that's what you want.

Ian Rowden

You have to sanitize your own buggies. Other then that its good

Mark P.

Thrifty is clean, has helpful staff and a good selection of products. Pre Covid it was open 24/7 which was very convenient. It's misnamed though, it's an expensive supermarket. It capitalizes on it's central location in James Bay and charges it's mostly elderly patrons a premium. I happily pay the premium as it's a short walk from my home, but don't drive here, most of it's competitors are better value: For a big shop head elsewhere.

Rod Kuhn

New store is very clean and large. Lots of stock.

Pamela White

Excellent Reno's- new look store is wonderfully easy to move about in and convenient

Kate Coull

This is a great market. Just a short drive from the Worldmark Resort. It had everything we needed-- the produce and seafood we bought were very fresh. They even had Krazy glue and my uncle's favorite caffeine free diet coke!

Michelle Mills

Great selections, great bulk discount days so watch for these events. The store brand items are good quality. The fruit and vegetable selections are great and the seasonal selection is fantastic as well.

Debi B

Brand new store great lay out, lots of parking , and great friendly staff

Patti Logan

Pleasant staff, shelves well stocked, good quality product.
