Our family has been at ROCS since it opened. Only one of our children was able to attend ROCS when it first opened -our youngest was still in nursery school, and our oldest was too old to attend at the time. Our middle child thrived at Royal Oak both socially and academically, while our oldest began a nose dive in both those areas (due to the closing of our local public school, Parliament Oak, he was forced to go to Crossroads). Our oldest went from being a happy, top of his class student to an anxious, “D” student. After two (seemingly long) years, Royal Oak opened up to our eldest's grade. We were beyond thrilled to finally be able to send him to Royal Oak for his final two years of elementary! Almost immediately (due to a lot of one on one attention from ROCS staff) his grades and anxiety levels improved. He was even back to his old sweet self at home. Our youngest has also been at Royal Oak these past two years in their JK and SK classes. He never ceases to impress us with all that he learns there and how happy he is with his teachers and classes. Our middle child, who has been with Royal Oak since the beginning, is the brightest 3rd (going on 4th) grader you could ever meet. He absolutely loves going to school everyday, and looks forward to the challenges presented to him at Royal Oak. As a parent, there is almost nothing more important than making sure my children are receiving the best education possible and I am confident that Royal Oak Community School is fulfilling that need for my children. There aren't enough words to describe my appreciation to all the people that made Royal Oak Community School a reality and have helped all three of my children be the best version of themselves.
In one year Royal Oak has become our home away from home. My goal was to find somewhere to challenge my children academically as-well as build confidence and identify their gifts. This school succeeds in doing so much more than just teaching the curriculum. Royal Oak represents excellence in learning but more importantly, excellence in kindness, community, awareness and acceptance. For me, it is just as important that my children are accepted for who they are, as it is to learn acceptance and tolerance for others. They have the resources to provide quiet spaces for children who may benefit from a moment to reflect, or just need a moment to catch up with their emotions. My children, in small class sizes, receive the attention required to think bigger and are never discouraged if their strengths or weaknesses stand out from the crowd. The teachers are up to date and unified in their teaching methods. I have received the support from the school that I needed to feel connected to my children’s academic path and clearly understand their individual strengths and weaknesses. I feel the strength of the community radiate from the school walls and find comfort in knowing we are not just names or numbers, but a valuable piece of a much bigger picture.
Royal Oak is a hidden gem!
ROCS rocks! The open communication between teachers, parents and students makes us feel connected with our daughters education and provides us with a real sense of community. At the end of each school day, our daughter comes home with exciting stories of new learning experiences and is happy and thriving. Royal Oak offers an exceptional education as well as a safe and supportive environment that has built her confidence and willingness to learn.
We are a new family to the wonderful world of Royal Oak School. It truly is the school of our dreams! 60 days in and our daughter (in JK) surprises us on a daily basis with what she's learning. The school staff are the absolute warmest, supportive and most welcoming team. We are continuously kept abreast of our daughters progress and are welcomed to join into the many special community activities that the children are encouraged to participate in. This school is a unique and precious place that creates student to student relationships that aren't typically found in a traditional school spaces. Seeing the more senior children welcome our daughter every morning is something special. I would like to also like to digitally high five the pricipal, Julia Murray, for doing such a brilliant job and spreading inspiring lessons in optimism & inclusiveness. GO ROYAL OAK GO!
I can't say enough about this wonderful school. Small class sizes give our child a chance to receive one on one help from the teacher and individualized learning plans help kids succeed regardless of their learning style. Every child is valued and the culture of kindness and respect is refreshing. Our child has blossomed in the school and I highly recommend it to anyone.
Sending our child to Royal Oak is one of the best decisions we have ever made! The dedicated faculty and staff are amazing, and the small class sizes ensure that he gets the attention and help he requires. They not only do a fine job teaching our children using cutting edge educational techniques, they are also instilling in them a sense of community and belonging. The communication between the school and parents is fantastic and the teachers are always available to discuss your concerns. If you are at all unhappy with the current school your child attends, I highly recommend contacting Royal Oak!
I couldn't imagine a more special school than Royal Oak Community School. My children are thriving there - getting a tremendous amount of individualized learning support, in a family-like environment. My kids are benefiting a lot from the sense of community and place that the school has grounded them in. They are confident, comfortable and always ready to learn!
A lovely local school
Royal Oak Community School has opened up a level of social and emotional learning not necessarily found in the large Public School system. Children have the opportunity to develop and grow empathy on a deeper level because of the small class size and interaction with many different ages on a daily basis. Low Student to Teacher ratios, with inquiry based learning, help children move forward at a good pace; while being challenged and stimulated. Having Royal Oak in our community has had a huge impact on our family and has been one of the best experiences in our new life in Niagara on the Lake.
Our experience at Royal Oak Community School has been outstanding. The small class sizes enable the wonderful staff to really get to know each child deeply and meet their individual learning needs. All the children receive a great deal of care, support, time, and one-on-one attention on a daily basis. The nurturing environment created not only by the attentive and caring staff but also by the children as a cohesive, supportive group is second to none. It has been so encouraging to watch my daughter transform from a frustrated, overwhelmed, struggling student to become a much happier, confident child with a willingness to learn and persevere when challenged. She has now set some ambitious goals for herself and is motivated to work hard to achieve them. It truly is a school that embraces the whole child, where the children are inspired by each other and where they are encouraged to see no limits to their abilities.
I am so happy I made the decision to move my curious and inquisitive young son to Royal Oak. He was welcomed with open arms by all the teachers and students and feels part of an extended family. After the first week at Royal Oak he was was speaking French, had improved speech (I even ended speech therapy) and came home calm and happy. As a mom of a young child it feels good to have such an open communication with the staff and other parents. You can tell the teachers really love the students and make every effort to bring out the best in the kids! I couldn’t be more grateful!
Royal Oak is amazing. Our children have been students here for the last 2 years and our experience has been outstanding. My son was reading at a grade 1/2 level in Kindergarten! We are very pleased with our choice of our children's education. The special attention I see given to each child is based on each of their learning styles. This is one of the many things that really makes the school so special.
