Good school to learn French and the basics in life..friendly teachers

When I was in the 6th grade I was an ambassador and since I was moving schools next the following year me and 5 other students were kicked out because are parents could no longer afford to go to the school. 2 students tried to fight it but it did not do anything so we were replaced. I do not suggest going to this school. And one day we had are parents come to the school and the principal was telling how good the school was when at the time my sisters public school though them the exact same thing. So this school is a waste of money. Do not suggest sending your kid here for a “higher” education.

Worst experience ever. Waste of money and time plus damage to my child. They will say that they will love your child so much so you enroll them but after that if your child doesn't behave like an adult they will make your life a nightmare. Teachers with no pacience. Madame Sjonasen in kindergarten tell the kids, have bad manners with the parents and always mad face .... unless you have a girl that most of the time follow all what adults say.... don't waste your money. Pay for clases in the Alliance is cheaper and better !

I have gone to this school for 12 years. It is my second home. I strongly believe that this school is preparing me for my future endevours. Could not imagine my life elsewhere. The teachers are awsome! The cafeteria food is great! But more importantly, the community is very good. Overall, would strongly recommend.

This is a fantastic school. We send two of our children there and will soon send our third. I find all the staff is dedicated and caring to the children. The curriculum is diverse and provides a broader perspective than the public curriculum. Class sizes are typically 20 or less, especially in the higher grades. There is a lot of additional support provided should you child need it.

We have had a wonderful and nurturing experience over the past 5 years. The sense of community and leadership approach to how they deliver the curriculum is immeasurable. They are teaching more than just the academics here.

Jon Doe

Send your child to public school. Some of the worst experiences of my life were had here. Some teachers said that boys were less mentally cabaple than girls and indiscriminately punished boys to set examples.

Rebecca Bazant

It's a good school over all but uniforms are really expensive.

CFIS is a great school. It ranges from Preschool up to grade 12 and the curriculum is very diverse. I have 2 children there and will likely send my 3rd one as well when he turns 3. The French learning - although not as intense intense as a fully French school - is great and the fact that they learn Spanish in grade 4 is even better. Class sizes are small (rarely above 20 students) and there is a lot of support from different learning specialists should the child need it. Highly recommend a visit if the occasion arises

I am an employee at the Calgary French & International School, and my son attends the school. From both these perspectives, it is an incredible organization. The community is welcoming and diverse. The opportunity for my son to become fluent in French, Spanish and English within a caring environment that focuses on how each student is most keen to learn is something I value deeply. The school is a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Associated School, and they follow the 7 Habits leadership model.

CFIS is a really good school, people here saying that it is racist and sexist are naïve. The teachers have never encouraged racism and gender inequalities. I'm pretty sure that the parents that reviewed this was influenced so much by their 4 year old kid who told them: "my teacher is shaming on" They're just naïve parents

Great school!

CFIS has been a fantastic school for our family. We have 2 children at the school and they are thriving. The learning environment is warm and welcoming and always adapting to a relevant curriculum.

This school is one of the most soft schools ever. No competition and they get parents to run sports teams and clubs. Only 3 good teachers in the school

I have two kids in CFIS , one in Grade 3 and one in JK. For our family CFIS is more than a school. Its our community and home away from home. I like all the teachers and my kids absolutely adore them. The strong academics is important , but at the same time kids are getting the education filled with culture , community and the gift of language. I give lots of credit for the school management. That part of hard work which not easy to notice but as important as teaching itself. I called it team work. Thank you all from our family.

Maria Lourdes Gadea-Hawkins

Our two children attended CFIS for 12 years and it was one of the best decisions that we have made for a lot of reasons. Bullying is absolutely not allowed and measures are always taken to protect the children from bullying and keep them in a safe learning environment, which gives the parents peace of mind. The teachers and principal are wonderful and always willing to help and accommodate all the needs of the families. When we moved to Calgary we visited all the private schools in the area and CFIS was by far the best fit for our family. I would truly recommend CFIS to parents looking for a private school in Calgary.

Both my kids attend this school and love it

Gertrud Schneider Chary

CFIS has been the French immersion school of choice for our family. Both of our children experienced and enjoyed diverse and challenging years of learning from early childhood to senior high and graduation. This journey was rewarded with continuous curiosity, analytical thinking, self-exploration, independent thoughts and original ideas. CFIS gave our children a solid foundation to transition successfully to university life and beyond. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunities our children received and wholeheartedly recommend CFIS to anyone who wishes to provide their child with a different, more personal and realistic approach to learning.

CFIS is one of the worst schools that I had went to I went to I first moved to Calgary and thought this would be my ideal high school after the tour. All they did was brag about the few achievements that their students did instead of the basics. They lacked all the French necessary the only subject that they taught well was social studies. Once I moved schools I found that I was behind for grade 11. I struggled but managed to pull it off they did not even teach us about the conjugation of basic verbs. Would not recommend. Sincerely: CFIS Zuccs

CFIS has been a wonderful school for my children. It is a school founded on academic excellence and the development of the whole student in a caring and supportive environment. It has been impressive to watch their skills in French and Spanish develop over years as well as their appreciation of the world around them.

Akhil Garg

Amazing school in every aspect! Certainly one of the best French immersion school in Calgary! School has put so much efforts in accreditation to meet world class standards and also to be able to provide students an opportunity to experience world class education and development activities. Go CFIS Go!

Dianne Gereluk

This is an incredibly inspiring school for children to attend. With two very different children, both have been able to flourish and find joy in learning at this French immersion school. They have been challenged to think deeply about the world around them, experienced specialist art, music and physical education teachers. My children are articulate and incredibly attentive and respectful to their peers, teachers and school community. The school fosters and cultivates incredible citizens of the world. It is rated as the number one French Immersion and secondary school in the province, and supports each student to excel.

Awesome Girl

I was looking through my moms computer and found a video of my grade 2 class from 2010 that Mme Maze took to send out to all the parents, all the kids were sitting at a table working on something and then she zoomed in on me sitting alone in the corner crying... I don’t want to believe the worst but I really don’t understand why she would do that. I also don’t understand why a parent wouldn’t inform my mom on what was going on because she only saw it today... I can’t be the only one who sees a problem with this

Devon Neil

Out of all the International schools I’ve been to, this has easily been the least international. Mostly rich white Albertan parents who like the idea of an “International French” education for their kids, which the school exploits. Majority of kids there have never known any school other than CFIS. French level in the student body is terrible, even if you ignore the mangled pronunciation and accent. Vocabulary, syntax, conjugation are all lacking. I’ve heard 12th Grade students who have been in that school since Kindergarten yet don’t even know basic words like ankle or twist.

Steve Banks

Excellent education with smaller classes and more attention to students. Students learn french very quickly in a fun and interactive environment.

I had very high hopes for this school, but unfortunately I was disappointed after dealing with the administration and some of the teachers. The alarm bells started going off during the intake process and while dealing with the admissions director and staff. They mixed up our application form, then they were unprofessional about it, and even after a spot was offered, they didn't address our questions. Getting my children into a French immersion program was important, and so we decided to continue with the process. I am fluent in French, and I found that some of the teachers did not speak fluent French! There were many promises made as part of marketing during the open house and online - almost too good to be true - but we did not find them to be delivered practically. Finally, we found that there is little focus on children's specific needs. There was a little boy with some anxiety in the class that my child was supposed to be in and I remember the staff trying to explain it away as "they had to accept the child because of a sibling". It was a very upsetting sight for me, because the child was isolated and sitting alone even during snack/lunch time, crying, but no one was paying attention. After some more run-ins with the staff, I realized I did not want my child in this school - we moved my child to a school where they focus on nurturing the child at a young age. I really believe that CFIS needs to look closely at their environment, and whether they are meeting the expectations of today's parents.
