Hired Ryan to remodel our old bathfitter with a new tub and tile. I was informed that I needed to buy all the materials for the job myself which I thought was fine, and also pay the entire job upfront which I was very uneasy with. However I paid it since we were having family over for an extended period of time and needed it to be done as we were very close to the holidays.
The tile job was very poorly done, he didn't use the spacers that I purchased, and they were not installed flat at all. Ryan claimed that the wall was uneven which is why the tiles were not installed flat. "Why wouldn't that be looked at and corrected prior to installing the (water resistant drywall, that I was told to buy) I wondered"? Which that in itself I was told by other contractors that it would not hold back water for very long in case there was a leak. He left sharp jagged edges on the metal strips that surround the recessed shelves that I had to go buy a file and file down so no one would cut themselves on. One of the shelves was built with zero insulation behind it an was right up against the plywood. There was non smoothed out silicon around every edge to help with any potential water penetration. Chips in the cut tiles, didn't use a tile saw, used a grinder instead. Didn't clean up very well, there was dried grout all over the bathroom floor, and drywall dust.
Not his fault, but there was a leak from the plumber he hired for us. Luckily I looked through that access hatch to the plumbing on the other side of the wall and saw it, before there was any significant damage.
He offered to come fix and I quote, "The things that (I think) are wrong with the job".
Everyone does a job differently, however the entire consensus from talking to other contractors, was that the job was poorly done.
