Horrible experience. The contractor they recommended started out ok, then started demanding exorbitant prices for minor overages, without which he refused to come back to work. The sweeten rep agreed privately that the charges were excessive, but refused to ever help me negotiate them down, saying she “didn’t want to get involved”. If so, what would her function be? All the reps were girls in their early 20s who’ve never used a power tool their entire lives & know nothing about home repair or contracting. So they can’t really supervise anything. I never saw any value add or function provided by Sweeten. They seem to just match homeowners with contractors & take a percentage for matching. Yet they always favor the contractor, because most homeowners will be 1-time customers, whereas the contractors might take on 10-20 jobs (which would give 10-20 commissions to Sweeten). I predict this company will be bankrupt soon, as they don’t seem to be able to justify taking their commissions

I used Sweeten to remodel my home in 2018. I had to correct the contractor on many issues to make things right all at my expense as well as source the materials we wanted for our project. The contractor gave us no guidance. At the end, he asked for final payment prior to completing the job and did not finish. I contacted Sweeten to help mediate. The contractor was unwilling to return and finish the job so Sweeten suggested to contact the Consumer Protection Division. After months of back and forth with the contractor and CPD, he agreed to finish but in the end did not do so. I contacted Sweeten again to update them of my resolution and they would not help since I utilized their services just before they started their $50000 contractor guarantee in renovation financial protection. As a result, I did not get the one year warranty of work guarantee, as there are many faulty issues I have, and they abandoned the project. It would have been nice if Sweeten would have enacted their guarantee but I signed prior to them offering it and they would not grandfather my agreement in spite of having the issues ongoing and trying to resolve everything how they requested. I would be very cautious before using them. Hopefully they vet their contractors better.

What a difference! Our new bathroom looks fantastic and the work was completed in no time, which was important for us since we only have one full bath in our home. Isaac and hid crew were fantastic from the minute they knocked on my door. Extremely professional and beyond helpful. So glad we decided to go with Sweeten - General Contractor Matchmaker.

They were fantastic to work with! Gaby had great ideas and her construction crew led by Tony were so friendly, courteous and excellent at dealing with problems that arose -- while still completing the project on time. Every day they left the construction area tidy. Plus I have a puppy who they graciously allowed to come visit every morning and randomly throughout the day to check progress! An excellent experience that took 3.5 weeks but ultimately felt like no time with how easy and unstressful it was.

I had hit a lot of walls when comparing quotes and seeking a contractor prior to Sweeten. Without finding their page, this renovation may still be incomplete. I would HIGHLY recommend the team I chose (Xtrategy Inc, located in MD) to anyone looking for home renovations. The owner, Alberto, is extremely knowledgeable and thorough in all steps of the process. I also appreciated how personable he was (his colleague, Paulo, too!) and enjoyed his mindfulness and involvement of my 6yr. old. He set realistic deadlines and was flexible when we needed to amend them. For the most part, I knew exactly what I wanted. However, he offered a variety of samples to choose from, did his best to honor my budget, and pushed back with some suggestions that definitely maximized the space.

I used Sweeten to renovate my Park Slope condo kitchen in 2014. They were fantastic. They matched me with several contractor options, at a variety of price points, and we ended up working with one who not only worked with our budget but also came up with creative solutions to implement my wife's design. I liked that I could look up testimonials and past projects for each contractor I was matched with. I also liked knowing that Sweeten provided an additional level of accountability to ensure the work was completed and on time, and could troubleshoot if necessary. The kitchen renovation was done in 8 working days, and our contractor went the extra mile and worked on a weekend to make sure that it would be done when he said. We've just completed our renovation through Sweeten and I can I couldn't be happier with the results!!! We had major repairs needed on brickwork, flooring, drywall/painting, and electricity, and Sweeten matched us with a really fabulous GC. He got the job done on time and within budget--both of which were very tight. Here is the short of why I would highly recommend using Sweeten with any renovation project: 1) With Sweeten you are matched with several different types of contractors. Meeting each GC really helped me hone my own understanding of the project and the expectations I had for the job. We were matched with one GC who was more of an interior designer, one GC which was a high end, complete overhaul type contractor, and one GC who was a jack-of-all-trades fix-it. We ended up going with the jack-of-all-trades, but I could definitely see that other people would have pursued different renovations, and it was nice to see the options. 2) All of the GC's are background checked by Sweeten, which was a big relief as they are infiltrating your home for several weeks. 3) Sweeten kept in contact during the renovation, and it was very nice to know that *if* something had gone wrong, there was someone to turn to. Truly, from the renovators end, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from going through Sweeten. I wholeheartedly recommend it!!!
