I recently decided it was time to have a new slip cover made for my couch. I popped into Calla Design to ask if they knew of anyone who could do the job and Janice said she could arrange it and sent me home with 4 or 5 different books of possible fabric designs. I didn't trust my choice completely so when I went in again to chat with Janice she offered to come have a look, which was very generous, I thought. Sure enough, once she got there she used her well trained eye to gently re-directed me to a WAY better choice. Next step was to wait two weeks for the fabric to get to her and very shortly after that her upholsterer came and picked up the couch and took it away to complete the job. Within 1 week of him picking up the couch we had it back and he did an excellent job. I couldn't believe how smooth the whole thing went and how helpful Janice and the upholsterer were at helping us to make the couch a really beautiful upgrade from what we had. Impressively, the cost was slightly better than what I would have paid at the local (and main) upholsterer in town, and the turnaround time was dramatically better than it would have been otherwise. I'm an extremely happy customer. Thanks, Janice!!!!

A beautiful store with all sorts of interesting and lovely items, from various natural essential oils and soaps to unique linens, scarves and original paintings and jewelry, handcrafted locally. It's a pleasure to wander through. A great place to look for that unique gift or even find something for yourself. The staff are very nice and also do custom home renovations.

When I decided that my living room needed a total makeover, I was apprehensive about implementing drastic change without professional help. I have always known what I like, but I was intimidated by the myriad of decisions facing me, and more importantly, I did not want to make any expensive mistakes. I live in Vancouver so hiring an interior decorator in Victoria seemed problematic, but I knew what a great designer Sue Pipes was and Janice, the owner of Calla Design, assured me that the extra cost would be minimal. The first thing I have to say about my experience with these 2 highly professional ladies is that we quickly established a very easy working relationship. They were immediately accessible through email and phone, and from the outset exhibited terrific enthusiasm, even though my one-room project was a relatively modest one. They suggested 3 different options for my living room and provided paint, fabric and carpet samples for each look. What was amazing is that they helped me recognize how important it was to keep an open mind and push the boundaries of my comfort zone in order to achieve something special and exciting. The result was just that - a look much bolder and more colourful than I would have ever imagined for myself - but because it was put together with such professional expertise and flair, I have to say I am thrilled with the outcome! Along the way one unfortunate problem was encountered with a piece of custom-made furniture where an error in dimensions had been made by the supplier. Sue & Janice swiftly alleviated my concern, emphasizing that my satisfaction was paramount. They resolved a difficult situation in a thoroughly professional manner without involving me. Following this hiccup, Sue worked long and hard to help me in the final stages of the project - assisting me with decisions relating to artwork, and accessorizing - for that final polished result. For anyone on a hunt for a first-rate interior designer who has fresh and original ideas relating to style and a wonderful sense of colour, I recommend Sue Pipes of Calla Design without reservation!
