We worked with Kierstin on the design and installation of Hunter Douglas powered blinds for our condo, and couldn’t be happier! From our initial consultation to the arrangement and scheduling of installation, the entire experience was welcoming, professional, transparent and on time. It’s worth mentioning that this was done in the early days of the pandemic, and that we are in different provinces! This makes the experience working with Kierstin even more remarkable - her clarity, responsiveness and keeping us up to date throughout the process made it so that we didn’t feel anything was lacking. The blinds themselves are incredible, and the installation was done very professionally. Thanks to the recommendations that Kierstin made, we can enjoy a beautiful view while protecting our soft furnishings and not spending a fortune on air conditioning in the summer. After living in our current home for several years, we realized that we were not feeling any joy in our kitchen. It didn’t feel like a space where we could relax and enjoy as a family. And functionally, it felt like we didn’t have enough space for our groceries and snacks as well as for preparing and cooking meals. We went into the process with a bit of fear around the chaos of a renovation as well as the financial investment but once we had the opportunity to sit down with Kierstin to see the design options. colour palettes, and her vision for how we would live in our space, the decision to move forward was an easy one. The impact of our kitchen renovation was more than we had even expected. It was completed at the end of 2019 and we were so happy with how it turned out and loved having amazing dinner parties in the space. But once COVID took over our lives, our overall joy, enjoyment and thankfulness of our amazing kitchen has been a daily blessing. We often have a glass of wine in our kitchen at night and just imagine how much worse our COVID experience would have been in our old kitchen. Kierstin’s complete level of calmness throughout the entire process was so reassuring and helped reduce the anxiety we felt with the investment and renovation. We were also impressed by how flexible and creative she was in adjusting our plans during the renovation as we troubleshooted unexpected issues. Our kitchen is truly the hub of our home and our favourite spot to spend time together as a family.

I truly can’t begin to find a description powerful enough to describe how valuable Kierstin was (and is) to me during my renovation. The anxiety I felt upon purchasing and fixing up my first home was beyond next level and was taking the joy of the experience away from me. Kierstin would remind me of the big picture, she helped me walk through the possibilities and determine which projects were on my priority list and which projects could wait. She would reign me in and keep me focused, helping me find other options when my “first pick” was out of my budget. She gave me ideas that I would have never come up (like plug in sconces which are so beautiful and inexpensive and completely change the feel of my basement)! Renovation and decorating can be overwhelming but Kierstin breaks it down by helping you get clear on how you want to feel in your space and then how you want it to function. Once you’re clear on those feelings and goals, it’s then that she gets you to focus on the design and decor. I never thought about how I wanted a room “to feel” before how I wanted it to look. This has changed everything for me. And now, every time I go in to a particular room, I get that desired feeling and so do my guests. It’s so much more than design. And she is so much more than a designer. I recommend Kierstin and this program to anyone who doesn’t walk in to each room of their house every single day and fall in love.

After spending many years frustrated by not knowing what to do with our family room and fireplace (and many failed decorating attempts!), we decided enough was enough and reached out to Kierstin Smyth Design. We chatted about the options for working together and decided the Petit Design Concept was the best fit. It was an easy process of me giving her the info on the space along with how I wanted it to feel and then she took over and sent back a great document full of ideas for how to achieve what we wanted! We never would have thought of some of the things she recommended! The best part of the document was the shopping links. It took all of the guess work out of it as I looked at the items she suggested, picked one and ordered. Such a huge time and stress saver! She was quick to answer any questions we had and we got to work implementing the design.
