To no avail, during this past COVID winter, I spent hours online trying to find replacement shades for our vintage table lamps. Within the 2 week period from start to finish, we now have stunning silk replacement shades that are truly impressive and we feel well worth the investment. I had a pretty terrible experience last year. Ordered and paid for my parts in early March, nearly 2 months later the parts arrived. The owner included a small extension cord, recognizing the delay. Unfortunately the one part we ordered was not the same size as it was described on the website and the threaded pipes we got were 2" rather than 13" long. After sending photos and initially being blamed for the mistake, I took photos (thankfully I had kept my records of the original order) to prove that the mistake was not on my end. I was refunded for those parts in the end and now I've ordered from Grand Brass in the US. So much for supporting a Canadian business. That's great if others are having a good experience here. Hopefully my experience was only a one-off. I'm a very patient person, but this was ridiculous.

It most certainly was worth the drive from Hamilton to Cambridge for my appointment kept. Dave gave me what I needed rather than what I thought I wanted and I am most pleased with my change of harp height and stunning new pleated lamp shade. The only downfall is it was made in China! ugh! why can't Canada look after Canadians? It just doesn't feel right to support another country in most instances.

I had a Tiffany lamp base, one of the two pulley systems, replaced since it stopped working. I had done a lot of research on places prior to choosing TLG and was not disappointed. He did a great job and even thru in a free light bulb lol (I had only provided one due to car transportation safety - glass in car breakage). Would recommend him highly based off this experience. He also comes up a lot in my circles as someone who can fix some of the most ornate and antique lightening/fixtures. This is a skill desperately needed and I hope he continues to serve our community for long time or passes on this much needed trade to a successor.

Stay Away! Unprofessional and Shady! Had to call the police! Refused to give back my chandelier! Was supposed to give me a quote for my old antique chandelier before proceeding with any work whatsoever. Called me saying the total would be $275 but would not disclose what needed to be done in detail and wouldn't provide a proper quote containing parts and labour and what I was actually being charged for. When I decided to go and ask him in person, he was rushed and aggressive and couldn't be bothered to explain to me what is was that was wrong (if anything). My chandelier was in pieces, and would not let me have my chandelier unless I paid him something for his time. There was no mention of any diagnostic fee whatsoever! Yet he started his price at $50 and went down to $45. I refused to pay because it was not disclosed from the beginning and my chandelier was in pieces and he was supposed to call me before he was to proceed with any work whatsoever!! After wasting my time and dealing with the police, I decided to resolve the matter and pay him $45. There was little I could do, and though it angers me to give in, I wanted my chandelier back and be done with this a hole! The principal at hand here was that he made up a number on the spot and never told me that there was any diagnostic fee to just look at it! All professional service departments tell you there is a diagnostic fee to find out what is wrong, if anything! If there was no mention of a diagnostic fee from the get go, it's not fair to spring that on someone. From my standpoint, he is a crook who knows how to get away with petty theft! Karma, Karma, Karma. Do not go here. There are many other lamp and chandelier repair service departments. Lots in Toronto, Mississauga, London... Don't get ripped off!

He's not currently open and won't be according to his mobile site at least until June 21, 2019. Unfortunately he didn't manage to post that on his (desktop browser) website or in his phone messages, or on his shop front. The notice is only posted on his mobile site which I only found when I was standing in front of the store expecting to find it open during the posted hours. I wasted almost two hours driving yesterday only to find a closed store and not even a notice on the door. Incredibly disappointing and frustrating.

When I brought in my totally disheveled lampshade I was told there was only a 50% chance it could be fixed. When I went to pick it up it was literally brand new. It was a gift from a most important person in my life who had passed away. I was devastated when I was told there was only a 50% chance. I’m totally thrilled by the job that was done. He did a little magic today! I brought in a broken, soaking wet, dirty outdoor solar light I loved, and he cleaned it up, made it better and rewired the light so it is beautiful and usable as a plug in now. I also brought in a lamp we bought in Dubai and he rewired this as well perfectly...all for a super reasonable price and he was fast. A great experience, and we will use the Lighting Guy again.

What a complete waste of time and gas money. Yesterday I booked an appointment for 11:20am today. Drove an hour & 15 minutes in heavy fog to arrive on time. When we got there it was in darkness and there were people waiting outside with an earlier appointment (& they drove an hour to get there) that didn't know what was happening either. We all had received confirmation & reminder emails for our appointments. No email or call to cancel any of us. We left and found another lighting store to spend our money at. Surprise - the other people who were stood up were also in the same competitor store (they had waited at Lighting Guy until 12:30pm). Thank you to the Lighting Shoppe for looking after all of us after our very bad experience at The Lighting Guy. The rest of the supplies we still need we will order on Amazon. We will not shop at or visit this store again.

I have two antique brass lamps and the shades were shredded on the inside from age. I noticed the sign outside the Lighting Guy saying he recovers lampshades. He had many different colours of silk from which to choose. He even noticed that the shades had a double pleat on the banding top and bottom which I had never noticed. He had some trouble getting the pleated banding for the recovering but he managed to do it somehow. I couldn't be more pleased. The silk shades are absolutely perfect with the lamps. I was dreading trying to find replacement shades but this means I have the perfect shades because they are absolutely the original look for the lamps because they are the original shades restored perfectly. Thank you so much to the Lighting Guy.

Given all of the other five-star reviews, I guess I just don’t understand David’s business model. I placed an order, requesting pick up, and he didn’t show up at the scheduled pick up time – twice. In the end, I received my order through the mail, though about quarter of the order was missing or incorrect, and he didn’t include a packing slip. When I emailed afterwards – no answer.

What a wonderful experience working with Harry and David. My wife bought an antique Austrian light fixture that needed some repair before hanging. They completely rewired the fixture, cleaned up its working parts and went above and beyond in helping us to finally have the fixture mounted since it was missing a part or two. They even met with us on a day the store was closed so they wouldn't be wasting our time driving to Cambridge from London to finally get it just right. Harry and David certainly know their stuff. Worth the drive to Cambridge... and we even discovered just doors down a terrific Scottish Bakery the Rising Dough.

We were able to get an appointment quickly, and since we were from out of town, they said they could do the repair within two hours while we waited so as not to have to make the drive again. TLG provides a much-needed service at a reasonable cost but, its business operation is horrendous. The hours open to customers change by the day (had to make 3 visits), the invoice amount did not include HST and the method of payments is undesirable for the year 2021.

I had two vintage floor lamps and one was repaired in Guelph and later on, I had The Lighting Guy repair the other. The first one did a good job, offered professional customer service but couldn't repair the night light portion of the lamp. The Lighting Guy(s), did the same job for the same price but had better gauge wiring and parts plus repaired the floor lamp and offered caring and personable service. For a an extra fee, they even fixed the night light in the first lamp which the first company wouldn't do due to "catching a carpet on fire". They are professional and passionate about their craft. I do have other stuff to fix but will drive to Cambridge to get the best service and value for my money. UPDATE: Had another vintage lamp repaired recently, another super job. Thanks guys!

After finding no lamp repair solution in my home town, I decided the 2 1/2 hr drive to The Lighting Guy in Cambridge would be my best chance to get it fixed. They virtually had to dis-assemble the whole lamp in order to re-wire it. But, they fixed it and it works fine again. Yes.....it WAS worth the drive to Acton.......sorry, to Cambridge. Good Job guys. Can't say how incredibly pleased I am in the service and products offered by The Lighting Guy Ontario. If there were more stars than 5 I would be rating them even higher! Two brothers who are so helpful and kind. I brought my antique floor lamp in for repair and they will have it ready very soon, and were able to explain exactly what needs to be done. As well, I bought another antique floor lamp which they had restored - absolutely beautiful. They also supply up to date light bulbs which suit the antique lamps, and they have a wonderful selection of new lampshades to choose from. They are also advising me about 2 other lighting issues I am dealing with in my older home. When I put out a request for who could fix my floor lamp needing repairs, I got multiple replies saying that The Lighting Guy Ontario is the only one to contact. I am happy I listened to them.

I had a nice expensive Tiffany lamp & fan which was not working properly but that I kept as a decoration because it still looked great even if the fan did not work. I talked to the owner and he said that he would look at it and charged me $30 and with no guarantee that he could fix it. He called me a week later and told me that he could not fix it and asked me if I wanted it back. I told him that I would come and pick it up. This was on a Wednesday . I was preparing for a trip to Montreal and forgot to pick it up. He called me on the Friday morning while I was driving down and told me that I had to pick it up by Saturday or he would throw it out because he had no room but yet he kept for a week while I was waiting for him to fix it. I called somebody and asked them to pick it up but something came up and they could only go there on the next Tuesday ; the fan was already gone. When I came back I called and he was rude with me and even hang up on me. As far as I am concerned the fan motor and the control was only about 1 cubic foot which is not a lot of space if you really to accommodate your customer. The owner did not have my permission to throw this out. I am now stuck with a Tiffany and nice wood carved fan blades that are useless to me or anybody. How do I know that he did not keep the motor and control for spare part??? and on top of that I paid $30 for this terrible service

They had a photo, physical description and sizes for the estimate but the cost, after negotiations, increased 24%, when the order was placed. They misplaced our shade so it toke almost 7 months delivery. Three months after placing the order, the material they quoted was no longer economically available so we had to agree to a substitute. I bought barn lights from David in the summer of 2020. David was amazing in answering my questions by email because of Covid restrictions. The lights were delivered in a timely fashion, are amazing quality and we love the attached security sensor. My electrician swore security sensors did not attach to the lights and I would need a separate electrical outlet, but David had exactly what I needed. The lights look amazing on our accessory building. I had such a good experience, that this summer I ordered Bodega pendant lights for my kitchen. Again, prompt replies to emails and the product came pretty quickly. Then disaster, we broke the glass shade while installing it. David was extremely kind about our accident and worked with me to replace the glass shade. The shades were back ordered till December 2021, so David kindly sold us another light, gave us a discount on the light, shipping and threw in two vintage LED lights. Remember, we broke the light while installing it. I have enjoyed working with David and would order from him at any time. Thanks, David!

Took in a antique lamp base to be refurbished. The lighting Guy was so hepful, he rewired the lamp, touched up the paint on all the small damaged areas and picked out the perfect bulb and lamp shade. Very nice work and I'm very happy. Repaired a tiffany lamp shade (top was broken) after I was unable to find anyone in this area to do such work. Also spend major time repairing a second lamp, including rewiring and a new socket. Very impressive and thorough work, would highly recommend.

I was so fortunate to have stumbled on The Lighting Guy. I hesitated for many years to have a lampshade repaired on my Mother's antique Oriental lamp. My concern was the irregular shape of the shade. My anxiety was relieved after speaking with 'the guys'. After speaking to Harry (or David) about the rewiring of an antique fixture, we booked an appointment online, dropped it off, received a quote, and less than a week later we were notified it was ready.
