After years of putting it off, “we” decided to “re-do” the kitchen. It started off with a quote for a $20,000 kitchen cabinet re-facing and then….someone said “You know, you can probably get completely new cabinets for that much money” and we we’re off and running. I have never done such a large, extensive home renovation and I knew right away that I was going to contact Charlene from Fresco Interiors. As I’m a retired event planner, I’ve seen Charlene many times at various trade shows and had personally used her once before for some design ideas when I was changing-up my formal living room. Charlene is always up-beat, professional, positive and full of ideas. As someone who has owned her own business, I know the long hours that you put in “after-hours” and Charlene and her team are very conscientious about getting back to you quickly when you have any questions or concerns. The whole team is very knowledgeable about décor and design and their new showroom is beautiful. I am often in Ontario dealing with family matters. I needed someone in place here to be able to oversee and continue the renovation project in the event that I needed to leave at a moment’s notice. I felt comfortable knowing that Charlene would be arranging and overseeing “the trades” for me and paying as much attention to detail as I would myself. I met with Charlene earlier this year. We sat down and she whipped out her paper and pen and quickly sketched design ideas for a completely new kitchen. We discussed various design details and went over existing and potential colour choices. Charlene has a knack for either validating your own design/colour choices or else gently nudging you in the right direction. Charlene worked well with my own #1 choices of Lisa Black from Superior Cabinets and Dale Kerpan from Braids Flooring. Charlene recommended Floform for the counter tops and it was a bonus that the offices were so close together. I got a beautiful product from them. She also negotiated a good price for my backsplash from Mainstream Design Centre. As I mentioned at the beginning, we not only completely modernized a 1974 kitchen but also put in new luxury vinyl tile throughout the main floor and carpeted up the stairs, into the hall and the master bedroom. Two bathrooms were also renovated at the same time and Charlene & her team had some modern suggestions for these additional renovations. Although we spent 2 months living in the basement and washing dishes outside with a kettle and a hose [no it is not just like camping!] we managed to survive. The trades’ people were very aware of our situation and worked hard to get the job done on time. The results are as different as night and day. Gone now are the dusty rose rugs and the blue laminate kitchen counter. We managed to bring the kitchen from the 1970’s to the present day with a fresh, current, new look. Family and friends are astonished. So, thank you to Charlene and her team for a job well done! Now, about that basement – hmmm! Lucille Richardson
