A very good hospital with trained nurses
Worst experiences so far. Few attempts to go in and always the same. First ER - 5hours waiting for bed , I self discarded as was too long I decide die in home not on hospital corridor. Unfortunately - survive this. Next 2 attempts : 4 and 5hours waiting for appointment - on surgical assessment reception. Then hours waiting to get receipt. Think before you go. Think twice please. smal update yoday visit 7 hours waiting for appointment and painkillers and few words with doctor assistant, absolutely record in my opinion. Amazing.
I came because my daughter spent the night with fever and there was no way to low it. We came at 7:00 am after 2 hours I am still waiting for the doctor. I think we are paying a lot of taxes more and more and the service is worst than years ago. It is annoying seeing young ladies escaping from the emergency and seeing that all the resources are for them. The rest of patients we will have to wait for attention after 2 - 3 hours.
Great hospital and staff. It’s a very big hospital. As I’m new to the hospital have to find my way around but everyone is very helpful! Keep up the good work! Thank you, Maria xxx????????????????????????
Under the present circumstances I think all here are doing a sterling job. Only been hospitalised a few times in my 78 years and things have changed a lot but the care has always been there. Communication between personnel is not always clear.... understandable with the pressure on these wonderful people.
When I was in I got a staff sister & a porter I think called Joanna to remove my plaster on broken bones. They were very good.
The staff were so amazing at this hospital. Everything was really well organised and clean.
Been looking after me for years and apart from the occasional long wait they've been fantastic. Can't praise them highly enough, reception staff, nurses, doctors, all of 'em excellent.
Had stomach surgery here and the staff on the ward were appalling. Had zero compassion, was assisted to wash by 2 foreign HCAs who spoke in their own language to each other over the bed and was completely ignored by them. Was the only surgery patient in the bay and 3 cancer patients, ended up put in a room by myself as I was ‘disturbing other patients’ by crying in pain. Only thing that redeemed this place was a single male HCA who came to help me in the shower after I had pulled the call bell 3 times. He was lovely, respectful and sympathetic. Was spoke to like dirt by night staff whenever I had to use the call bell, clearly they didn’t want to have to come down the ward and assist patients
Always seem to be here with my condition parking is a nightmare don't go from 4pm till 6pm your spend all your time queuing
When I entered the Hospital I could use the Hygiene Station with ease then I was welcomed by one of my fellow Volunteers who was on Meet and Greet and the Hospital Receptionist who had a great welcoming chat to me. Everyone at the Hospital looked after me really well throughout my Day as a Volunteer while I was at York District Hospital.
Husband on blood thinners after heart attack cut finger bleeding not stopping went to A&E still waiting over 4 hours later and this was midweek evening time
Children's ward 17 thankyou so much for looking after my son and making him better they even gave him new set of pajamas and a really impressive toy . Can't thankyou enough for all the care you gave him x
Great hospital. Always looked after me and made my sad situation a bit more comfortable. Toilets are hit and miss. Very big hospital and they charge a lot for parking. It's a lot easier though now there's a multistorey car park.
My son had a stay on ward 17....brilliant staff. My wife gave birth there twice....brilliant staff. I may be biased but i believe the nurse on endoscopy called jenny is the nicest nurse ever. Nhs sraff try so hard for so little reward.
Always worth 6 stars. Great.
Fantastic service in a really busy teaching hospital, all the staff work so hard and this is plain to see. There was a wait involved but they cover a large area so this has to been taken into account, I am so grateful to the Doctors, Nurse and the support staff, we were seen, diagnosed and have treatment booked, this is the NHS at it's best, we'll done guys, we appreciate all you do for the community ???? ❤ and thank you!
I attended the Hospital this morning and the nurse was very efficient her name was Jess
Rude staff that make you feel unwelcome. Whenever me or my family have been to York Hospital the experience has been awful. Chaos.
Been having physio here and had a good experience over the months- nice coffee shops within it too
The York Hospital is the Trust's largest hospital. It has an Accident and Emergency department and provides acute medical and surgical services, including trauma, intensive care and services to the population and visitors to York.
From the ambulance to ward 22, everything was 5* treatment. Nurses, doctors and domestics are very hard working and are all a credit to this hospital.
Staff is caring and helpful. Thank you for everything you are doing! Thank you NHS
Went to A&E sent to Minor injuries. waited for hours, and decided to leave, thinking it would be ok. there are a lot more people waiting who look like they need more help than I did. They called me on the phone and I chatted, suggested if I needed to. come back in the morning. I did go back, waited again. you don't realise how busy a place is. unless you really take some notice. Anyway, I was so very grateful that the nurse was brilliant. and as a result of her thinking. " I really want to check this out" I'm in a pot, due to have surgery at Hull. 17hrs after being seen for a potential real issue. I'm so glad they encouraged me to go back. Thankyou. . if people are having a bad experience, I'd suggest you change your attitude towards others. who don't get paid enough, who have a career in Care, Smile. people might smile back. courtesy is absolutely free of charge.
This hospital is pushed to limit I’ve had a major operation and the staff are pushed to limit. More staff are needed here it’s close to collapse. Am am currently laid on ward 26 awaiting pain relief for over 1 hour and machines are constantly running low on fluid and new patients are put 1st while Existing patients are placed to back of cue. It’s not the nurses fault one bit it’s down to management thinking this is ok it’s 3.20 am now waiting 1 and half hours to relive my pain wow.
My wife has cancer,so we visit far too many times than any person wants to, but I cannot fault the staff as they acted professionally at those times we needed their expertise. Here is a place that you don't want to go to,but if you find yourself needing care, I have found it difficult to complain about.
Turned up five minutes early for a duty-GP appointment NHS111 gave me an hour earlier. Three and a half hours later I was seen, sorted and out in five minutes. Clearly no communication between the two and a very strong need to overhaul their systems and processes and apply some Lean thinking. Not easy but not impossible either.
Went to Emergency Urgent centre around 11:30am waiting untill 15:30 and still didn’t see a Doctor. When we’re in the waiting room only 10 people until it’s coming busier then they serve the new comers than the one who come early to see the doctor. I recommended to have this Numbers for all the patient and what department should be waiting.. or Chairs organise for what department you were waiting. Cause it’s a joke! Who come first will be serve late. I ended up going home because i have a 1yr old daughter with me who waits for few hours and tired.
The worst experience ever. They risk everything. Till the last minute. Horrible service ,1 hour response from the moment we requested help. Increased baby delivery difficulties possibly c-section due to the very unorthodox waiting till very, very late method. 52+ hours in labor with no actual update. Exsausted mother and possibly child.... And still waiting Thank you NHS
I had to visit the magnolia suite breast cancer unit for more tests after a previous mammogram showed changes the team were lovely there very nice, kind and friendly thankfully all was well after further investigation.
My first time at the hospital, first of all the attention on reception was good, I was attended by Emily she was kind to me, and the check in quick. Then I had to wait for 2 or 3 hours. And the doctor attention was good, he explained me good, tell what have to do. They only negative point was the waiting
Visited the specialist today sent by doctor due to hair or foreign body in ear and tinnitus in both ears. Was told the hair would be removed from my ear by my doctor. Specialist said it won't be removed even though its touching on my eardrum. Also I found him rather patronising and also kept talking interrupting when I was speaking about the condition and how its making me feel. I felt rushed as though I wasn't worth his time and travelled over one hour to get this sorted or at least get some answers. I was in less than 5 minutes with the specialist, He printed off some paper about the condition and did no tests other than look in my ear, just what my own doctors did so what a wasted journey. Receptionist was also useless when i asked them to find and write down the doctors name. I was passed to another receptionist, for them to then pass me back to the first reception. Horrible experience. Feel more depressed now than i did already. Told i have to live with the condition and no tests to even see if they can find the cause. Horrible experience. Going to pay private now so you get better treated and listened to when explaining your condition. UPDATE - Pals were very helpful and im visiting a clinic soon. If not resolved soon i'll have to pay private.
hospital is spotlessly clean. My first time at York hospital for a minor operation. Big shout out to staff nurse Marsh on ward 27 who was just lovely and attentive also to Dean and Francine(think that's her name) on PACU who had to put up with me for a few hours longer than expected due to a mix up with beds but again we're lovely. very positive experience.
I would like to thank all the nurses who were involved with my endoscopy today. It wasn't a very pleasant thing to have. All the people involved made it a whole lot better. Thank you all. You are all very special people love to you all. Xx
Excellent. NHS staff are brilliant ????
I went there for blood test and it's very hurt but it was excellent. THANK YOU HOSPITAL TEAM I'M SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!
You served me extremely well - A & E, ENT and Ward 15 - thankyou I could not have wished for better help when I really needed help. I really could not fault any part of my care.
Sleep Clinic is awesome. Jayne Pateraki and see staff are brilliant. Thank you!
Never posted anything like this before. But..... Completing a delivery today between 20:00~21:00, last of the delivery staff leave and lock up at 20:30 so it's deserted. As I'm finishing my delivery I see someone about 5' 5~6" dark 3/4 coat and a blue ish flat cap, walk across the automatic doors and disappear. I thought it was strange as all the delivery staff had gone but could have just been a janitor starting or leaving but as I entered the building about 5 seconds or so later, there wasn't anyone in the corridor or in the linen room... Have me goose bumps. As I say they walked from left to right, inside across the door.. No where to go! ????
Simply put possibly the best hospital and not just THE BEST cancer diagnostic hospital in the U.K if not the whole of Europe.
I was examined at York Hospital A and E today (04.09.21) for a suspected heart attack. Every member of staff that I came into contact with was kind, efficient, competent. The doctor who took care of me was so gentle and reassuring, and so clear in his explanations, that what might have been a distressing experience was the opposite. The whole service at the hospital was efficient and professional. Lindsay Walter
Everything a hospital should be and more, my wife was brilliantly treat on the acute stroke ward, amazing visitor facilities.
Lovely staff in the A and E apartment. I attended when they were really busy and they were very kind and helpful and made me feel important and cared for.
never been but its a hospital and it sounds like my favourite cocolate bar yorkie which happens to send me to hospital when i put it up my minch
Do an Absolutely fantastic job especially since the damage caused by Brexit which has decimated our national health service. You are all wonderful.
This hospital is an excellent hospital with great staff, they are always keen to help and show genuine care and compassion. Of course you will always encounter the odd person who could do better but overwhelmingly as a whole unit the hospital and all who work there are excellent. As with all hospitals parking is expensive but at least in this case it’s plentiful. If you’re visiting a child on paediatrics then they’ll validate your ticket so you can park free.
Very helpful in all departments
They look after you, unlike Parliament junkies.
Staff have no understanding or training regarding autism and other neurodivergent conditions and are likely to endanger those lives significantly. My girlfriend (who is visiting alone from a foreign country) is currently admitted for alcohol withdrawal and is now leaving against Dr recommendations and endangering her life. This is because as an autistic individual with trauma, she is too afraid to stay overnight alone and I am not allowed to attend her because of Covid restrictions... it is ultimately her choice to leave. There are exceptions surrounding the covid restrictions but it appears because of the ignorance of the staff, that autism and trauma considerations are discriminated against as unworthy. There was not even any affordance given to full covid vaccination status. If you have any choice at all, avoid becoming dependant on this place if you or someone you love is neurodivergent and/or a trauma victim. Staff will not regard such conditions appropriately and may even treat such individuals with dislike and distrust due to their ignorance and lack of training. Update: She has thankfully recovered and has returned to her home country safely, however I still believe the conduct and lack of trust and communication afforded by the staff of York hospital to be disgraceful. They perpetually ignored an informed person (myself*) in regards to how autism and personal trauma related to the circumstance, they even chose to insult her straight to my face about her reluctance to talk openly to anyone but me which I had been attempting to explain to them as part of her trauma. They appeared more keen to act on their prejudice and discriminatory projections of 'bad behaviour' than on the information I was trying to provide them with. As they were not listening to me I requested a psychological professional to assess the situation, an authority that would understand the concerns and who the nurses/dr might listen to in regards to the importance of having someone trusted nearby. This was denied however. After my partner informed me of the nurses poor attitude towards her in the ward (i was talking via phone from the waiting room) I knew I could not leave her as there was a risk she would become suicidal (the staff were not inspiring trust AT ALL) and I had to support her decision to leave against Dr recommendations. *I have a deep understanding of my partners traumas and experiences, she comes from the U.S. who have an inhumane approach to mental health which has resulted in traumatic associations with healthcare, she also has particularly traumatic experiences with corrupt law enforcement (which is a particular issue in rural parts of the southern states). Being in a situation without someone familiar/trusted nearby she would be entrusting herself entirely to such people which is not something she can do without risking traumatic recollection and a relapse in her emotional wellbeing due to the associations and the likelihood of an autistic meltdown under the circumstances. I am also autistic (albeit to lesser extent) and study neuroscience, both for the behavioural aspect of my profession as a User Experience Consultant and my personal study of neurodivergence and brain development to better understand things like autism (and which I also use professionally to improve my ability to create psychographic profiles). It could be said that I have the knowledge and understanding of a professional neuroscientist, just without the practical education surrounding research methodology.
From walking into the hospital at 07:20 this morning to being discharged at 14:45 this afternoon, the experience was fantastic. All the staff were first class and treated you with respect. The consultant surgeon Mr Britton was very thorough in his explanation of the procedure, as was Dr Hall the anaesthetist. The nurses were taking notes and giving advice as and when required and they were all very happy smiley people. I like happy smiley people, especially in hospital. I hope not to go into hospital again, but if i have to i would like it to be this one. Thank you to all those who gave me a very good experience of York hospital.
Hospitals are like hotels now, in terms of customer service, phenomenal, after the past 12 months, you would expect moral to be down and be sympathetic towards that, however, completely opposite end of the scale. Would have stayed longer! Thank you so much
My son was seen very speedily. We were all treated in an excellent manner. The doctor was calm, friendly and knowledgeable. Excellent. Thank you so much!
Depending on the unit you are in its either excellent or really poor. Excellent endoscopy unit, very poor maternity. Food is awful.
I recently broke my ankle and fibula and the speed and efficiency of the doctors, nurses and ambulance workers is second to none.
After calling 111 for advice, my 16 yo son was given fast appointment at GP out of hours, assessed v quickly, then referred v quickly to A&E (next door!), assessed by ENT on call Dr who prescribed treatment and Charge Nurse Andy administered IV meds in a friendly and efficient manner - what a star! The whole experience was the NHS at its best ???????????????? Thank you York Hospital
Went to A and E with Husband before christmas, first time at York. Great service, nothing like the waiting time expected, Friendly staff and very clean. Very happy that this is my local Hospital now. thank you team!
I want to thank all the ambulance staff, nurses, and anyone else I missed out, broke my ankle,so kind and caring, make a lovely cup of tea, thank you
Very helpful and hard working staff
Busy, make sure you get there 15mins early as you have to do pre-covid Q & A then find we're you need to be!
trying to contact york hospital by phone is a nightmare and a system which is dysfunctional and cannot recognise requests to be directed to the dept required and end up being directed to scarborough hospital ??? totally rubbish , bring back human beings.
father in law was admitted with critical back pain and went straight to ward 28. Mr Pi and the staff was all very accommodating, even allowing more family to visit when they wanted. Quick diagnosis is a huge tumour and then stage 4 lung cancer. Admitted to ward 31 again all staff were brilliant. Assisted with getting him home as soon as possible to be with his family. Thanks to everyone from cleaning staff to nurses, HCAs, Sisters and Consultants. He died at home surrounded by family on 17th Feb 2018.
Busy, you get well looked after, treated fairly. Hope you don't have go! But if you do relax your in good hands.
Could not fault this hospital for their professional help, care and attention
Great staff as is found throughout NHS. Not enough visitor toilets on wards. Let down by men's toilets ground floor. Long dried caked urine around urinals.
This is the second time in 10 weeks I have had to go to A & E at York Hospital on both occasions I received excellent service and care. Staff were first class.... kind, helpful, understanding, professional....brilliant! Thank you to you all.
Despite the fact that they are extremely busy, everything seems to go quick and the staff seem to be extremely friendly. Can't say even one bad word about that one.
It's a very confusing set up, having not been to the hospital for well over 3yrs and obviously things have changed because of "covid" I was ridiculed loudly in front of other patients by the triage nurse, I had an injury to my arm which i believed would get better by itself only to find I'm still having trouble a few weeks later so my letter marked urgent with no specific date to attend or actual appointment time says as loud as possible for all to hear abruptly "oh i see you failed to attend why was that? There was no specific date or time to attend given!! Made me look bad and feel small not to mention embarrassed infront of folk there, then gives me very unclear instructions to go to minor injuries?? Where?? No signage anywhere to be seen nobody to recieve you?? I was so horrified i walked away and came home with an injured arm and felt I had no choice but to leave, i was there 26/8/21 at about 5pm! Absolutely dreadful experience.
I recently spent 6 weeks in YDH and cannot fault the care I received. The whole team on ward 16, the diabetes team, stoma team, pain management and tissue viability nurse were all amazing. The food and tea were pretty awful but you can't have everything!
My 89 year old Father attended York Hospital on 22 November following 2 days of struggling to mobilise and unable to walk and speak. Mum (late 80's too) called for an Ambulance which arrived within 30mins. From then on the service and kindness was exceptional. All the family were amazed that he was able to recover so quickly and return home within 24 hours. A heartfelt Thank You to Dr Michael Harkness, Dr Emma Fairly and the staff in the very quiet ward which even provided ice cream and treats!
Excellent care and very helpful staff even in covid times! Was in and out of A&E in no time, would definitely recommend in future
Waiting time at A&E was terribly, 7 hours....!!!!!! Also the security staff are very rude and have a bad attitude, and don't treat people with any respect.
Excellent staff, organisation and communication from all I have had contact with. Treated with the care & compassion I would expect. Much better than Mid Yorkshire Hospitals!
My daughter the day before her 40th took ill whilst on a business trip to York. A work colleague brought her into York General Hospital were it was found that she had suffered from a heart attack. The attention she received was excellent the staff from A&E. The doctors and nurses on CCU were both professional and caring to my daughter and myself, they allowed me to be a part of discussions that took place to decide what treatment she needed. As I live in Cramlington Northumberland it was doubly stressful but I could leave York and travel home knowing she was in good hands Thank you from the bottom of my Heart
Always look after you and their upmost best to get you back to full health
horrendous experiance in 04 where i was forgotten in a room bleeding for 2 hours. Avoided till 2014 when i needed an x-ray. And 2016 when i needed my eye washing out. Taken peoole to A&E a few times, not friendly staff. But the doctors were nice when they got seen. it's hit and miss i guess. Going private healthcare now. xxx
Renal Unit - I'm on dialysis treatment from January 2019 and the staff is brilliant :)
Very happy with all the care I was given through my pregnancy and during and after the birth of my son. Xx
My son admitted himself late Monday afternoon with crippling abdominal pain. By noon the following day he'd been assessed, tested, scanned, appendix removed and in the recovery room eating ice-cream. He has nothing but praise for the efficiency and the courteous, professional staff.
Customer care in Head and Neck department was lacking for my appointment yesterday. The staff member who came out for me did not introduce herself unlike all the other members of staff nor did she wipe down the chair I had been sitting on. Then showed me into a room and left me there. The letter inviting me to the appointment had no details of what the appointment was for and I was given no after care information leaflet about cauterisation of my nostril. Just a few words about not drinking or eating anything hot for a few days and avoiding strenuous activity. Screens in waiting area and spacing felt ok but lacked any open windows.
Have been to a lot of hospital in my time and weeks in wards over my life so in my opinion a good place. for my first visit.
Under staffed so waiting times in a&e are high, car park is pricey that said the staff and care is great.
Where do I start!? I’m in the UK visiting my partner. I ran out of medication so my family shipped me some from America. Well everything is delayed because of the holidays. After not taking my medicine for 5 days, I called 111 where they helped me getting in contact with a GP. All I can say is wow! The service and care of the GP, York Hospital and the NHS is superb. I was able to get my medication until mine arrived. I wish he United States had a service like this! This would never happen in America and I’m fully insured. Thank you NHS and thank you York Hospital.
The hospital and staff are totally amazing. It was easy to park too with my mum
A huge thank you to the doctors, nurses and others that we saw on our visit this morning for being so fantastic!
On Wednesday night I had to call an ambulance because my girlfriend was having a severe allergic reaction. The paramedics who attended were kind, attentive, and good humoured, helping to put her at her ease even though she couldn't speak. One of the worst things that can happen when you're feeling desperately unwell and have nowhere else to turn is to be made to feel like you're wasting the emergency service's time. We were both so relieved when these paramedics said "You did absolutely the right thing, if this happens again definitely call us straight away". The NHS gets a lot of complaints in this country, but with proper funding it can properly support the fantastic people who work within it.
I have been attending the Plaster Room for over 10 weeks having broken my leg. The staff are so lovely ! Jo, Wendy, Riane and a lovely gentleman have looked after me so well - the staff are so happy in their work and have treated me so well - I would recommend highly ❤️
I received very good care & treatment. My Urology consultant Mr Kass who was very poactive in picking up the issue and operating so fast. His team, the anasthetic team yesterday morning. The nurses, health care workers who looked after me on the Extended stay area on the 3rd and 4th February. Staff nurse Abby who greated, the guy who collected me looked after me and handed me safely back to my brother last night. Wendy on night shift. Not able to remember all names Natalie, a lady yesterday who has a son who is 12 next week working yesterday during the day. It was my first ever operation I have MS limited mobility with my legs Well done York hospital You are doing a great job - i witnessed how hard you are working in these very difficult times we are in. I certainly appreciate all you are doing.
Nice staff, polite, busy, but really clean.
Amazing hospital. I had major stomach surgery in York hospital and the care I received was impeccable. The nurses, both female & male are little short of being angels and nothing is too much trouble. Their time is your time and they never make you feel like a nuisance. I was on the High dependency ward for 2 stretches and I can't sing their praises enough. I was cared for firstly by Mr Nick Woodcock and then Mr Krishnan (both colorectal surgeons) and their teams along with the pain care team and Perioperative team. Was it not for their care I probably wouldn't be alive to write this review
This is for the Doctors in A & E and Ambulance service. I would like to thank all concerned. On the weekend of the 28th January 2017 my husband was very ill, the Doctors who I spoke to were very helpful and supportive which enabled my husband to die at home by my side, as this is what he always wanted. The ambulance staff attended to my husband with such professionalism, which enabled him to die with dignity. A big thank you to all of you.
Receptionists are ridiculously rude, spiteful, and generally awful people. Have no grasp of basic mental health issues, shouldn't be working in a hospital. Absolutely terrible experience. Very unhelpful, take nothing seriously, refuse to help patients update info or at least direct them to the right place to do so, treat you like an inconvenience. Should be sacked.
I was given an epidural by dr hall of the day unit. I felt little of what he was doing. MAGIC! THANK YOU ALL. The nurses, although so busy, were smiley chatty and found time for everyone's every needs. Judith Marshall York
Bad service left dirty blood stained items without removing them and left an old lady unwashed after soiling herself , nurses seemed totally not bothered and when asked various questions never got answers or visits back with answers !!
Good Hospital nice staff
Very efficient and nothing was too much trouble, staff are fantastic.
The best care ever a great hospital.
Excellent Hospital. Doctor's and Nurses very friendly and helpful. Very clean and Tidy. Coffee Shop☕. Excellent Coffee ☕☕☕☕☕. Wide range of Drinks. Excellent Choice of Cakes ????????????????????????????????????????????????. Excellent Food ????☺️. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Very clean and Tidy.
Would like to thank ALL the staff on ward 16 from the bottom of our hearts for the care they gave Shirley till her death this evening. No one could ask for a more careing set of nurses, totally dedicated to the nursing profession and the people in their care. You should all be so proud of yourselves, and you will always be in our hearts. It seems she touched all your hearts with her singing and sense of humour. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DID. LINDA GARETH &TERRY. XXX
My son had an overnight stay on ward 17 all the staff were lovely he didn't want to go home they made him so welcome x
Staff very helpfull toilets nice and clean
No waiting. Got in at my appointment time and was finished within the hour
Clean, good covid restrictions in place, new masks offered.
Long wait but the doctor who I saw was excellent
Staff freindly polite Excellent professional service
All staff very helpful & thorough. Parking charges expensive
Was ok I was a little worried to go to York hospital for my appointment but the hospital was very on top of things there so it was not as bad as I thought
9 hours in ER waiting, ive looked st the Dr chating with the security guard on the corridor while people are waiting...for 20 minutes
Staff working tirelessly to help those in need - keep up the good work NHS, thank you for everything you do.
I needed to go to A&E on Monday 20th September 2021 and wish to thank the amazing Doctor Lyndon. Who was incredible he got me sent for a MRI.and continued to update me . His kindness skills and sheer loveliness. We are blessed to have such amazing people who put up with lots of abuse, and little thanks . So thanks to all the staff on duty this Mon as I am very grateful for my care and support. Xx
Awsome hospital and staff are brilliant
Had a accident was taken to A&E from going in to coming out 90 mins x-rayed n treated. I would like to thank all the staff at York hospital for their help and kindness. Thank you
I was phoned by a receptionist in the Dermatology Dept two weeks ago which was the beginning of a brilliant relationship with a variety of staff who couldn't have impressed me more with their attention to detail along with a cheerful and reassuring attitude. The receptionist Judy must have graduated from a charm school with a bright and friendly telephone manner that continued when I registered. The doctors always seemed prepared to consult with colleagues to make doubly sure of their diagnosis. When it came to a minor excision performed by Jess Richards ably assisted by Sue I experienced no pain, was fully informed as to what was happening and sent on my way with all the information that I needed to complete the treatment and thought that I had just made two new friends so warm was the atmosphere in the surgery. My only complaint is that I had to sign a form where I accepted that infection, bleeding and pain were likely to follow ….and I got none of that. This experience with the NHS confirms what many of us know ,that we are indeed fortunate to be able to access such care free at the point of delivery. We can only hope that whoever wins the next election will do nothing to undermine this fine institution.
My father who is 88 years young recently fell backwards at the Macarthur Glen Outlet in York and hurt the back of his head and wrist. He was admitted for tests and hospitalised for four days and the care and attention he received was second to none. At a time when our Hospitals are at bursting point amd our Medical staff are at breaking point may I just congratulate you and thank you for the loving care he was given. I salute you all. The fact that he had to wait six hours to be examined was not down to lack of care but lack of resources!
I have been an impatient at York hospital now for over 3 weeks.. in this time I was wrongly discharged then on re admission waituned a further 12 hours in ACU for re admission the staff there was outstanding and not to fault them one bit however the ward staff are very poorly undermanned and to this end the pressure showed in many ways!! It seemed to myself that unless you was a pain and constantly on the buzzer you was never seen to I had been spoken to apaulingly due to the stress that the staff are under and at times the buzzer would not be attended to until 40-45 minutes.. cathata bags had burst and took myself to have to place down papertowels as to avoid a slip hazard!! again the cleanliness of the hospital was to a very low standard at times asking 3-4 times for toilets to be cleaned and bedding to be changed.. the hospital needs more staff..
One word - BRILLIANT!!
A somewhat chilly response let's break it Down waiting area staff 5xxxxx X Ray staff 5xxxxx Receptionist in orthopaedic 5xxxxx Doctor Quite friendly listened to what l had to say a good examination professional but cold approach as though been advised by Clinical Commissions Group my arguments not with staff in hospital
Friendly and efficient medical staff make your visit here better.
As good as they get!..no one's perfect..but at YDH you're getting pretty close! A very high standard of care in a well maintained Hospital. Staff keep busy..help each other and seem calm and well organised! Bravo!!
Staff all smiling and very hard working. Wards all very clean and beds are well spaced and well kept...I was kept well informed about what was happening and when and although busy I was given medication at the time I needed it..if you have be in hospital I hope it's as good as york
Went to A&E at 09.30hrs with swollen face thinking it was an infection. 5.5hrs waiting time but seen within 1 hour. Then transferred to dermatology department. A case of facial sarcoidosis. Went home at 13.00hrs returned at 15.00hrs to have punch biopsy done. All done in a relatively short space of time. Very thankful for the treatment.
Currently an in patient seeking a diagnosis
Had 2 successful operations here which solved both problems. My mother had a life saving operation in January again successful and solved her problem. PROS .Appointments don't take forever .EXTREMILY caring staff (I have autism and they took this into account undergoing both ops) .They explain things clearly of what's going on. .Easy to navigate as the hallways are signed MASSIVE GREEN FLAG Friendly staff no long ques or anything in the shops or in costa for example if you want a coffee I got one leaving surgery both times. CONS .Food in the canteen isn't great and expensive but it's a hospital not a 5 star restaurant. .Sometimes the wailing rooms for appointments has an empty desk so your stood waiting until the desk operator comes back and tells you where to sit as waiting rooms can be divided depending on your kind of appointment. Overall 5 stars and probably my longest review yet.
Very friendly helpful staff.
95 minute wait for out patients on a week day? what has happened to our NHS just Awful
Despite telling 3different members of staff who I was to see and the time of my appointment I was directed to the wrong place So was 30mins late Dr was not happy and neither was I I felt I wasn't listened to
Although the midwives were amazing during my birth. And the triage nurses where great. The reception I received by the nursing staff on ward G3 was simply rude. I understand staff are busy but politeness costs nothing.
A special place with special people ????
Mandy Pilmoor - Thank you so much to everyone involved at the Magnolia Breast Clinic. Fortunately mine was a good result, all the staff were amazing and kind totally aware of how us women feel, when attending stressful appointments. Thank You all
My 99 year old mother died in York Hospital last week. She was given kind and considerate care by some wonderful nurses on Ward 26 in her final days. Her bed was always beautifully clean and she was treated with respect and kindness right to the end. I am sure the nurses were busy but they attended to her, and to us as her family, as if she were the only person who mattered to them. This was not her first visit to York Hospital. Five years ago she had a horrendous accident at home and the Sister on Ward 28 assured me she would not live. However, after 17 weeks she was home and made a good recovery. I have the best possible memories of the staff on Ward 28, who gave my mother amazing nursing care over all those weeks. She had a variety of fractures, but the way the staff looked after the wounds to her legs was excellent and she never had any infection thanks to the procedures they adopted. My mother was taken to A&E by ambulance on at least six occasions and each time she was attended to quickly, kindly and with the best possible care with X-rays, scans, blood tests etc. Finding a bed was always a problem and we did spend many hours in A&E waiting for her to be moved to a ward, but on the longest wait of ten hours she was moved from a trolley into a comfortable bed. My mother will not need York Hospital again, but I would like to thank the staff for their wonderful care. The hospital is clean, the bed linen is nicely laundered and and, although the food could be improved, it is served nicely. All these staff, many unseen, play their part in providing us with an excellent hospital. Thank you!
Thank you to the AMU team on Monday 5th August, I came in feeling very poorly and Dr Waring and everyone on the team treated me with kindness, dignity and professionalism, I have had cause to be very critical of York hospital in the past but AMU Wow!! You were the Best, Thank You!!
Looked after me perfectly have no problems with them professional and caring
Easy instructions to find present staff lovely kleen hospital
You are better off sticking a big stick in your back hole then to get to wonderful York accident and emergency. They will take very good care of you, send you home with paracetamol after waiting over 6 hours when the signs said 2.5 hours after you are having 160 heart rate
I have always, and continue to, receive excellent care.
I would just like to say a big thank you to the wonderful staff from A&E Dept to Jim, the doctor in urgent treatment who was so kind and caring towards me and the ladies in Xray Dept. You are amazing and doing a great job.
I always can get help. Very nice and politely nurses and doctors.
I am from Doncaster, fell down stairs on a day out ,went to A&E,the staff were lovely very caring smiling nothing to much trouble a credit to your HSP.
The cafe has good health food and drink at reasonable prices The nurses phlebotomists doctors specialist's and every one in the coag department and every one else that has helped me through the last six years I can not thank enough they have all been fantastic from receptionist to specialist they all took a part in getting me fit and well thank you to you all
I attended A&E this afternoon after cutting the palm of my hand badly. I was passed on to Minor Injuries where I was glued and steri-stripped by a lovely nurse. I parked my car at 2.40 and was driving home by 3.15! I couldn't fault the service. Thank you.
During a recent holiday in Scarborough I unfortunately had an injury to my back i was transferred to York hospital and praise the staff for their dedicated care and support...i could not have asked for better care..the food was good and the choice very varied...so fortunate to have a good NHS in our counrty..thank you everyone..
On 7th January my husband slipped on black ice and broke his tibia and fibula. After lying on the frozen gound for an hour he was finally taken to York Hospital A&E where he was seen, Xrayed and had a plaster cast fitted. He was then taken to Ward 28. put in bed and left there for 2 days still wearing the clothes he arrived in which were damp and dirty. Eventually a young male Jamaican nurse came on duty and got my husband out of bed, washed and shaved and had his dirty clothes removed. He was told at 9.30am following day that he could come home, having waited until 4.30pm with no staff coming near him he phoned me to come and pick him up. I arrived at 4.45 pm and we did not get out untill 6.45 pm.horrendous lack of communication. Yet again the young Jamaican nurse came to the rescue and helped me get my husband down to the ground floor and into our car. Luckily I was a nurse in the 70"s so was able to administer his injections and meds. On the following Sunday he was admitted to Hull Royal Infirmary for surgery on the following day. What a difference, the staff were kind, friendly and caring and could not do enough for him. The treatment by nursing staff was superb and I highly commend them. Come on York, don't use undermanning as an excuse for bad treatment, Hull have the same problem but still manage to give patient care.
Seen in A & E by lovely staff, felt all care was good until I see my GP to organise referral needed and find the hospital have mixed my records with another patient and mislaid important test results Just adds to the stress
nan died
Ive had a lot of accidents and York hospital has always helped me when I needed it the most so thankyou nhs foundation trust Im greatful thankyou I appreciate it
I have 4 experiences of York A and E. Unfortunatly each time my family havent been impressed with the care. The first time in 2011 my child had an injury and was bleeding heavily. I asked for something to help contain the bleed and was told to get tissue from the toilet. I went into the loos which were dirty, smelly and no loo roll. We never got anything to help. Blood was all over my child, me and the floor. Once we eventually got seen after a long wait the Dr and Nurse were friendly enough and treatment was appropriate. 2015 attended with leg pain. Said it was pulled muscle. After another week struggling at home it was actually blood clots! Rushed into hospital for emergency treatment. Told it could have been fatal. 2016. A broken collar bone. No slings in the whole department. They found a triangular sling but it was for an adult and this was a young child. They tried to tape it secure but this didnt work. They tried pining it and tied multiple knots in it. Again the shoulder wasnt secure and it flapped around all over. We asked the Dr to look at it, after a long wait the Dr came and agreed it wasnt good enough. He phoned around to try and locate a childs sling. He eventually found a different type, but still an adult size. It was better but still not holding the joint in the right place. We then had to come back the next day to see if they had one. They didnt. They ordered a sling. So after 3 days of no sling we finaly got one. The Dr was apologetic but to us we thought a sling should ALWAYS be in stock. It was terrible. Last visit 2018. Relative attended with breathing difficulties. 30 minute wait gasping for breath and feeling generally unwell. This was follwing an operation. Dr was lovely thorough examination and appropriate tests. The Dr kept us informed. The nurses were eating mcdonalds and chatting away. Another family and us had to interrupt their conversations to ask for basic things. They were friendly but i found the standing around chatting unproffesional. Also a Dr had to point out that a man needed the curtain closing. Joking can you give him some privacy! He was in a state of undress but bed bound. There was a shift change over at 2300 and after the first Dr being very concerned and trying to help. We were given another Dr who immediatly discharged my relative admitting they didnt know what was wrong. To put it in context this person never moans when ill, never admits if in pain and never wants a fuss so for them to ask to go to hospital is huge. On going home we tried to care the best we could but it was very scary as they just couldnt get their breath. Will try the GP as there is something not right and we shouldnt have to struggle at home like this.
Very very dedicated polite professionals. Catering staff ab fab jokes jokes hee hee feelt happy recovery fast with cheerful atmosphire. Clean organised hard working staff couldn't do enough for you even though long shiftsx hats off. I know I couldn't do it
The pain management department and dr p Armstrong and her team are the best I have ever had treating me and I have been to numerous hospitals.
Absolute mayhem. I arrived in the afternoon. There was traffic queueing from both sides of the roundabout to get into the car park therefore the traffic was gridlock on the main road passing the hospital. I had to park away from the area and walk. Also the car park price is expensive at £2.20 per hour. Lots and lots of people in the main entrance where there is a Costa Coffee (expensive, but pleasant staff), newsagents, Lloyds pharmacy and a couple of little stalls in the middle. Quite interesting to sit and watch the world go by. The xray department was quiet when I arrived and the radiologist was helpful and explained everything. When I came out the department was full. I have had good service in the past, just not enough staff particularly in a and e and the car park needs extending.
These are 2 of a large team of nursing staff who have been working hard to help me through a very hard time. They are SUPER HEROES, can't praise them enough. The doctors and all the staff have been brilliant. But the nursing team have been exceptional.....
Everything in place for safety and wellbeing for patients and staff
Waited for 4 hours outside a ward as my wife was having surgery got no information had to run around and find out where she was. My worst experience at any Hospital
had to go to york hospital a&e on good Friday eve I received attention second to none excellent staff and service thanks to all
Thanks to Mr Giles and his team and all the staff at York hospital for the care they have given me over the last year
The stroke unit were absolutely brilliant when my dad was in there , they looked after him with care and compassion, they looked after us too, we were able to stay overnight in his last hours, they were very supportive afterwards and were always there with a brew Thankyou to everyone in the stroke unit. Mandy Tracy and Muriel
Sunday Colonoscopy A brand new department & most of staff were new to the clinic but they couldn't of been friendlier or more professional. I arrived a little early 7.30 in the morning & a lovely member of staff held the lift for me & came over later to ensure I'd been looked after which in my opinion is extra mile service. I've had many of these procedures over the years in different hospitals & I can honestly say this was the least painful one in my experience, even though I chose no pain relief & didn't need gas & air. Credit where credit due I'd like to say a huge thanks the doctor & his team at York Hospital.
Appalling, been trying to contact the ward for 9 hours to get an update on my dad
I was in and out in 4 hours so that has to be good
Sat waiting for 3 hours to see doctor about partly dislocated knee cap. Upon getting in, brilliant service and helpful and gave all the information I needed
Ward 36 were a fantastic team they looked after Mum till the very end. My mum was in hospital nearly 3 weeks before she passed away and everyday the nurses enabled us to see her through a Zoom call. They have fought and cared through this challenging time of Covid. You are all true heroes, we can never thank you enough.
Absolutely amazing group of people work at York Hospital, it raises my faith in humanity just how the staff do what they do purely to help people, without a doubt the best and the kindest people work within the NHS, thank you to all who helped me on my recent stay.
Once again we cannot fault the N.H.S , our local doctors and staff, EVERY MEMBER OF STAFF at this hospital who took care and treated my husband in The Clinic of Mr. Hardness today the 17th of October You have all been AMAZING! Your dedication, patience, kindness, consideration and the hard work you do - under a lot of pressure is truly appreciated by this very elderly couple. We are so very fortunate to live in this country. it is so comforting and reassuring to know you and every member of staff are there, and do such a great job of taking care of us. THANK YOU VERY MUCH !! Another day, another health problem for my husband, but am I worried NO! Because I so happy and confident that my husband will get the best care and treatment possible at this hospital. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, TO ALL THE STAFF. We are so grateful for the excellent care and treatments you give. This visit , an extra thank you to Janie and all other members of staff at the Sleep Clinic ? for doing a great job in trying to help my husband sleep normally. Looking forward to both of us getting a good nights sleep, when this is no longer a problem. I should be writing this review when the treatment is finished, but I want everyone to know how much they are appreciated.
I went for an appointment at the colposcopy clinic after been told I had a severe high risk smear test result. I was distraught on getting a letter out of the blue to go to hospital. So for days before the appointment I was very distressed and freaking out. I have never had an abnormal result. I read a lot before the appointment, hours on end, spoke to cancer charities, read testimonials, read reports in medical journals, knew exactly what went on at the appointment. So I decided based on all I had read that for the moment I would not do anything but wait for results of a less invasive procedure I am having. So I went only for a chat. I didn't say anything at first and was asked a few questions and then she wanted to start the process. So I said I've only come for a chat and that I had made an informed choice to do nothing at this time. She then went on to explain that I had got a high risk result and drew a line on a piece of paper to show where I was. She then said that if left I would get cancer in 10 years time. I said that is not true. Out of the percentage that have a high risk there is no way of knowing who will go on to develop cancer. She said it was true and I would definitely get it. I left and have reported this incident. Luckily I was very well informed before the appointment otherwise that would have scared me. It was scandalous. Unless she has a crystal ball and can say who is going to develop cancer she would get a Nobel Prize. As it is it is very worrying that that is been told to patients in a high risk category. Treatment has to be offered to everyone in this category and they do not know that if left alone who would go on to get cancer or at what speed.
The worst hospital in the world,i think that even in Somalia you do not wait 6 hours for emergencies, and after 6 hours they give you a paracetamol,(wonder worker) it a big bullsheet
I must right a review, I had to go to the day ward on Monday 26th of November 2018 for a prostate biopsy and I had to be put under. I just want to thank all the wonderful staff on this day ward they were all so kind to me, the day ward was spotless, thank you to the urologist and his team everything was explained so clearly, once again thank you.
Thank you very much for your great patience, professionalism and care and kindness in A&E / Rapid assessment unit for my 95 year old mother yesterday, we couldn't have asked for better.
My mum was admitted to the stroke ward ,36 all the staff were wonderful ,she couldn't of had better care. The lady with the red glasses was such a tonic she shud be prescribed on the NHS !! Thank you all for your care.
My gran went in for a shoulder replacement and was tested and in surgery in two hours after being called to have a surgery only a week earlier after someone else had cancelled. Also had excellent and helpful staff.
Covid precautions in place and sanitizers all over, Plenty of signs giving you all the information you need.
Very nice experience visiting my father there. Very nice and welcoming staff in his ward
The department I went to the staff very friendly and helpful and explained everything that was going to happen to me.
Been three times science November now ,I'd like to thank evryone for the care I got ,evryone was lovely .and most of all thanks for getting me better.
A big thank you to the ambulance paramedics who got me to hospital. The A&E department who stabilised me. All the doctors the nurses and every one on the covid ward who saved my life The care I received was world class I would also like to thank anyone i missed out Thank you
I cannot fault the staff or service regarding my mother's stay at this hospital, we were on holiday from Birmingham and she was taken into York Hospital via A&E and everyone played their part from the time she was first seen at our holiday lodge right through to discharge. Unfortunately it is a shame that Birmingham cannot follow this fine example as to how a NHS hospital should be run. Thank you so much for your care and attention to an elderly lady you were marvellous.
Earlier this year I had to have a mammogram after finding a lump. Naturally I expected the worst. All the staff involved were way beyond amazing. They were efficient, organised, understanding, compassionate and truly amazing. I cannot praise them enough. I was lucky, it was just a cyst but my heart goes out to anyone who isn’t so lucky. A million thank you’s to all the staff.
Made the first of what I hope will be very few visits to the Magnolia unit yesterday. Staff could not have been more helpful, friendly and considerate. Outstanding!
Went to York Hospital after fall. Staff were absolutely brilliant and transferred to Orthopaedic ward. I was looked after and wanted for nothing. The deadication and professionalism of all the staff was superb. Many thanks for looking after me. Xx❤️NHS
Fab service as always x
Brilliant staff well looked after
I occasionally have to take my wife to the Neuro Department. Always excellent staff on hand, and not too long waiting to be seen, even when there is no pandemic on!
Very good in and out in no time 10 out of 10
Very covid safe, all staff very helpful. Thankyou
Fantastic people make a huge difference!
My husband has spent many weeks over the last few years in York Hospital and the care he received was second to none. All the doctors, nurses and care workers are wonderful.
Excellent service from york hospital very welcoming and friendly caring staff 5 star service thank-you all at York hospital ????
I would like to say a huge thankyou to all the lovely staff on ward 15.we were treated with kindness and respect from the moment we were admitted. They are truly all angels and it was obvious how much they cared for not only the patients but also there families.
BRILLIANT service and well organised staff.
I found the hospital hard to find with all the roadworks, traffic lights and so many round abouts. Once there I can't fault any of the staff they were all fabulous. The ladies in the cancer center were just wonderful and with a four hour appointment I was kept well informed at all times. Well done ladies.
Attended A&E where I received an unwanted shoulder massage from a male Dr who continued even after I asked him to stop. He slipped his hand under my clothes to do this. After many hours, thirsty, hungry, and assaulted I left without treatment because I didn't feel safe or cared for. I wouldn't go back if my life depended on it.
Amazing care and treatment in Same Day Emergency Care on 8th Dec 2920. Staff so caring and skilled. Made a frightened patient (me) feel calm and relaxed and safe. Our NHS is unbelievable because of people like them. Thank you from Alexis.
Very good hospital and cancer support centre
Do not expect decent health care from york, or respect or honesty, quick to eat donuts, not so quick at identifying a patient in pain after medical negligence, lucky to get out alive
Thankyou so much for an excellent service today, new years eve, my wife was treated without much delay and we were able to return home that night, and a free lunch! You all deserve a raise, Thankyou.
My family and I have over the years had to use the A.E. services and been both in and out patients. We've always recieved excellent care on a professional yet friendly manner. All the staff from Consultants to nurses kandhouse keeping do an exceptional job under which at times can be difficult circumstances. Thanks to all staff for giving themselves whole heartedly to make this a truly exceptional facility under difficult circumstances.
Staff work very hard and are friendly
Every time me or one of my family members have been to York hospital we have left either in tears or angry. I went to A and E after injuring my ankle during a ballet class. I could not move it at all and had tremendous swelling (I have a high pain threshold so my parents knew I had really injured it) After being seen and told it was likely a sprain and he'd do an xray as I was so upset they took one picture of my ankle. He then made a nasty comment about how he knew it was just a sprain in the first place, after telling me to walk out of the hospital when I physically could not move my lower leg he shouted at me and said fine I'll give you crutches as I do not have time for a stroppy teenager. After being referred to physio at a ballet school they sent me for an MRI which showed a fracture, torn ligaments and tendons in my ankle. Ten months after the initial injury I needed surgery which ultimately ended my dance career. I still have limited mobility which I will never get back and sometimes get pain and swelling. I was also told that it is likely to cause me problems in later life. My mother has had multiple bad experiences and now is so fearful she will not go back. This type of experiences has been had by many close friends and relatives.
Discusted that my sister had a major operation this morning and has been sat in recovery since 11:30am because some admin mess up has left her with no bed and no toilet! While the nursing staff have been fab n can't apologise enough its simply not good enough!!
We take so much for granted. Thank you NHS.
Very good . Staff very helpful
Had the misfortune to have needed numerous stays in this hospital, ward 16 and the day ward. I have always been well looked after here.
The range is a brilliant store with lots of things to buy and very good prices. and nices cafe upstairs and very big carpark
