Rude people. Staff was terrible when I didn’t bring in my health care card. I sat in the waiting room for an hour, I looked directly at the staff giving looks of ‘help’ I even said “excuse me?” More then once only for them to awkwardly look away, as my presence didn’t exist. My feet and upper calf were turning purple and cold, I was losing circulation asking for help considering I couldn’t walk. I even asked people around me only for them to shrug or look away as they stared at me shaking. I physically had to get out of my wheelchair to sit somewhere I could properly relax. A female doctor came to me telling me she will be right back with help, then left me alone for an hour of me almost fully going into my seizure. Even after that she still didn’t return, I was brought to another room with still no help. You call this a hospital? Me sitting in there for MORE THEN AN HOUR in my chair permanently damaged my feet having a slight tint of purple markings across, and for my circulation is more messed now. Overall, poor care, very rude staff and extremely judgemental. I was hinted of me being ‘ dramatic’ when it was obvious I was scared/in pain. Pathetic for a healthcare system, just as worse as the one in lacombe. Exactly why I even went here to begin with, and I thought you guys would even do better then them. Smh. With all do respect, how would you handled the situation if I did go into my seizure in the waiting room? Just stood around? Waited for people to start freaking out? Because my god the brains of you people are smaller then pigeons. If it did happen, your career (of whoever was aware, which was the same majority of the staff walking around at the front, clearly aware I was in distress) would’ve been finished. I do have respect for those who save lives, but at least treat people how you would want to be treated. Only difference here compared to lacombe hospital, this place is slightly faster by literally an hour and thirty minutes. The girl with short dirty blonde hair working at the second counter, completely rude about cards and photo ID. Lecturing me how I need to carry it 24/7 and should never forget. I only didn’t bring it THE ONE TIME since it happened so sudden. Maybe if you guys had a positive environment that provides a feeling of safe, and closure, you wouldn’t have such salty people in the waiting room. What goes around comes around, just remember that.

I had recently moved to Blackfalds from Calgary and was feeling really crumby. I waited as long as I could but eventually the pain became to much to handle. I went to the emergency department at the RDRH and I was so impressed with the level of professionalism and kindness. From the RN who took my stats upon arrival, the admissions staff, the nurses, the porter, the xray tech and the doctor. Everyone was amazing. Thank you so much for your service. Also I should mention it was a Saturday of a long weekend and I was in at 16:00 and out by 20:00. 4 hours to confirm I was going to be ok, was worth the minor wait times. There was also a code blue (cardiac arrest) during this time, yet the staff was very engaged and checked in on me often.

Nurses and support staff are helpful and friendly. Been admitted here in several times over the years since we move from my country. You get treated here with care and respect. However, emergency side can be a really a pain. Specially during after hours. l can understand in some occasions they are understaff when other care unit demands more for their service.

I came to emergency at Red Deer Hospital on July 5th around 3:30 a.m. They think I had food poisoning with the severe vomiting and diarrhea I had. I was dehydrated too. I had to wait a few hours. but the nurses took good care of me until the doctor could see me. The staff was awesome..patient, helpful and kind. I was out on IV after the doctor checked me and I soon felt better. Thanks to all of the staff there. God bless you for your compassionate hearts.

I was in tonight with my husband who had a head injury. (Feb 1st) Triage nurse wrapped it and we sat to wait. After three hours I went to POLITELY ask a triage nurse how much longer it would be since he had now bled through his bandages. I approached her window and said hello. Ignored. I said hello again and she just turned, and stared at me. Full on glare. After a beat of silence she spat "yes!?" Before I could even ask my question she demonstrated her amazing people/patient skills by snapping "I'm in the middle of an assessment with this paramedic. You can sit in triage and wait until I'm ready to see you" Her tone was 100% rude, belittling, unkind, impolite, and unjustified. I'm so disappointed with her choice of how to handle someone who approached her for help AND in such a polite manner. Being that it was a paramedic in the room with her, I felt it was safe to assume they were just chatting and that it wasn't anything formal. Her whole demeanor was disrespectful and immature. I know being a nurse is many times a thankless job, but if you can't handle yourself in a respectful and controlled manner, and not let your emotions roll across your face in such an ugly manner... Maybe you should reassess the field you're in. Or.. Perhaps... More training? Sadly I couldn't get this particular nurses nametag during her mini spat, but she was at the window on the right, dark hair, and tons of makeup. I hope you see this ma'am. I hope you realize the effect you have on those around you. And I hope you are more aware in the future of just how much stronger that effect is when the people you belittle are already in a delicate state due to whatever event brought them to the hospital. You can learn from this... Or... You can sit and sneer at it. I would honestly expect no less from you at this point. #bekind

I have visited the Emergency room at least 6 times in the last year for various reasons. And I HATE it I would have rated it as such but they did offer the medical treatment that was needed at the time. The average time to get out of the waiting area is 3 hours and till departure almost 5. They are inconsistent in the service they offer. Sometimes they give you something for the pain sometimes they don't. Most importantly they don't allow anyone but the patient past the waiting room. No parent, no spouse, no supportive friends. And that sucks. cause those people sit in the waiting room worrying not hearing anything until its all over. If I had a choice I'd find medical treatment from a better equip hospital.

My grandpa was having a mini heart attack. And they literally made us wait 4-5 hours of wait to actually tell us what was wrong. Common red deer hospital we came to u because we thought u were better. But nah just nothing but a bunch of goofs.

This hospital services way too many people for its size and yet they do it with smiles on their faces. Yes there are times they might be rundown but that's because some people come in with the sniffles and go to emergency. That slows the whole system. If people only knew the skeleton staff they are left to work with then they would be so much more grateful for the great work the staff is doing with smiles on their faces. I have had both types of experiences, good and bad, and let me tell you even when it's bad it's still better care than you'd receive at any hospital. Thank-you Red Deer Regional Hospital for all the great work you do. You guys really are the best in my opinion. Trust me, I've been to many hospitals so I know what I'm talking about. Thank-you again staff and doctors for being so amazing at what you do!!!!

Had excellent care and service while I was in the hospital. I was able to rest and get healed up and everyone that was working while I was there were very friendly and had a good positive attitude that really helped me get through my injuries. I was in a bike crash and they were good at getting me through it.

The managing nurse in the psych ward that admitted my friend was amazing! She had a great deal of patience and compassion and deserves 5 stars. My friend has bipolar disorder and had a bad manic episode. She was taken to the hospital where I met her in the examining room. She was frantic so I calmed her down and got her to agree to stay overnight. When the security officer got her in a wheelchair, he walked too fast for me to keep up due to my back injury. When they got out of sight I heard my friend scream. When I caught up to them 10 seconds later, the officer had her arm twisted behind her back. I was livid! Not only was she a mental health patient with a support worker (me) but RDHA treated that shoulder a couple months ago after she suffered a serious car accident. He left several deep bruises on her arm and caused further damage to her shoulder. The reason he assaulted her was because she wanted to take the stairs. She's extremely claustrophobic due to a traumatic incident she suffered in the past and refused to go into the elevator. When I told him about her shoulder injury he immediately let go. What upsets me most about this situation, besides the security officer not waiting 10 seconds for me to calm my friend down, is that staff who work in emerg don't seem to be trained to deal with patients suffering from mental trauma. My friend was treated more like a criminal than like a person suffering a medical emergency. It also boggles my mind that staff, who may be put in a position where they have to touch a patient who isn't able to communicate properly, aren't made aware of pertinent patient info. I was told it was a privacy issue, though I can't imagine a provider who works directly with a patient, wouldn't be allowed to know if that patient is dangerous to the staff or seriously hurt and requires special care. There's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I immediately requested an investigation and was given a different version of events. When I requested the security footage for the RCMP to prove our version was correct, I was told there wasn't any. I really wish I had thought to take footage with my camera.

2 months ago i went here for first time ever as I heard such nad things. I had what i thought was an out of control flu. Nope, half my stomach had died i had perforated bowel also plus was in septic shock. I was rushed through and into surgery fast. They saved my life. When you truly are sick and need them they know what to do. Icu nurses suck but rest of them were so wonderful on surgical floor and er. Doctors were and are phenomenal. I shouldnt be here. A small wait in ER could have even been too long. I think people need to realize people like mw may come in when you are waiting and it truly is a life and death situation requiring much of the staff so just be patient. Next life they save could be yours or someone you care about. Im so grateful for all who were on shift and on call that day thank you again Kim Clemens (bloom was married name lol )

Just spent 3.30hr at the er it took them 1 hr to do vitals and then they left me for 2.5 waiting in pain now i have to go to a clinic that doesnt open till 8 when ive been in severe pain sincw 1am last night, if your in pain voice it otherwise you'll never see the damn doctor, who stood witht the other doctor for over thirty mins during their shift change talking and laughing, im frustated and extremely upset. This kind of experience is the reason i avoid doctors completely

Had to spend the day here yesterday after at first I thought I was having severe abdominal pains but then I found out I was having problems trying to pass a kidney stone. In a nutshell, PAINFUL!! Had to wait about an hour or so in triage but after that I was well taken care of by nurses and doctors. I’m feeling hella better today. Also, much thanks to all you wonderful ladies who work down in the ER at RDRH who had to put up with me as well yesterday. You ladies on that unit ROCK and much thanks to getting me better and back on my feet again! You do such a thankless service with the limited resources you are given at the moment and I hope this message reaches some of you that work on this unit. ????

jarman padda

Been there with shortness of breath and very high pulse. But no one cared for about 2 hours Second time wait there for 8 hours but they do not care about you at all. The worst experience. Its not free, we do pay taxes.

A bad cut needed stitches and I went to the Red Deer Emergency. Friendly staff and nurses went out of their way to make me feel comfortable (even though the hospital was busy and they had many patients). Dr Thomas sutured my wound. Doc was calm and talked me through the whole procedure. Excellent job by everyone at this hospital. Thank you all for the exemplary care!!

Mackenzie Howard

Waiting times were slow for Ultra sound, Xray, and C/T scan. But staff at the Red Deer Hospital was phenomenal! The nurses, the doctors, and the surgeons ???? God bless you in the work of your hands ❤️ Through trials and tribulations Through pain and through sickness My father in heaven, I know that to experience all pains on earth is to be truly wise. Get surgery they say, it will be fun they say But truly, we must know that through the surgery we are taught to become stronger, that pain is only temporary and we must pass this down to the next generations. TRULY WE MAY OVERCOME ANYTHING WITH THE POWER OF JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AND SAVIOR! #Surgery #Hospital #Pain #Sadness #Sorrow #Appendectomy #Healing #Light #Survival #God #Jesus #Father #Son #HolySpirit #Heaven #Eternal #Bible #Grace #Love #Mercy

Emi NotReal

Worst hospital out there. Wait time will most likely be around 4 hours or more, nurses and doctors don't really care about you there.

Sean

Had surgery here on the 30th of January. I must say the staff was wonderful, the nurses and doctors were fantastic and I was well looked after. A few nurses that came in were rude but I won't even rate based of them as I only interacted with them for maybe a minute. I do say over crowded though. I was suppose to stay over night for my surgery. And I got a call day before surgery saying they are moving it to day surgery. If I had the choice now I would have wanted to stay over night. I was in a lot of pain the night and day after my surgery. I could barley make it home which is a 4 hour drive. This is why its important to stay out of hospitals if you just have a cough or flu, you take up room for patients who really need it. But great work by everyone.

Allen Gregory

I agree completely with Steven! Took a suicidal person here once. The staff were snippy with us and had no sympathy whatsoever. They acted like we were wasting their time. They were eventually put in the psych ward but got nothing out of it! Myself and various people I know have had nothing but trouble with this hospital since the 1980s and go elsewhere for emergencies and medical care now.

Lindsay Jurman

I just left emergency room for chronic kidney issues. I was left alone in a room unattended for large periods of time. All I needed was a quick IV procedure as this is an ongoing issue for me. Instead I was neglected and made to feel as I was a problem client for wanting any kind of service. I was asked to leave my bed to rewait and treated like I'm a drug addict looking for a high. I'm allergic to pain medication. All I wanted was a simple iv and I was basically told to buck up or leave. Nurses are incredibly rude, not helpful and unprofessional.

Darrien Genereux

Went in on Sunday night of a long weekend and was really impressed with all of the staff who took care of me. The nurses, x-ray tech and the doctor who treated my injuries were all knowledgeable and pleasant. In at 7pm, out by 11pm, which is very reasonable. A couple of children came in after me and were treated before me, which made complete sense. They have to prioritize the patients, and I don't mind waiting if someone else has a greater need than I do at the time. Please treat these people with the respect they deserve; they deal with high stress situations 12 hours at a time and we should be grateful.

The ONLY reason this place gets one star is due to fact that I don't know how to give it zero or a negative rating. Not only did a medical health professional turn me away here when I was in need of blood transfusions, extensive medical health procedures, etc but after choosing to leave because protocol is not consistent in various departments let alone the same one - I walked into the Innisfail hospital and it was enough for them to see me and be admitted immediately (AND rock on team Innisfail for caring about holistic health to help solve the actual problem). I don't discourage lack of knowledge or process of learning however those who are not able to follow proper medical protocol should NOT be employed or at least need more underlying training and supervision before considering helping the public. HR needs some reconsidering on who they employ because you guys have all the resources to help those in need.. but the lack of empathy in the employed workers makes people who are critically ill – mentally and physically walk out that door. Unfortunately that causes replies like this. Simple changes will make great results and I believe it is possible if the negativity is removed.

I took my daughter to ER on June 8. She was admitted right away. Troy from the Emergency Admitting staff was very friendly and made us laugh. The young doctor ( I don't remember his name ) was amazing. Troy and ER doctor went above and beyond! Please pass to the management that they have amazing staff there! We greatly appreciate your service :)

I hope I never have to go here again. Horrible beyond belief and if funding can resurrect this situation, I am all for it. The doctor wanted to discharge my father on Saturday and by Tuesday morning, my dad was dead. In fact, I had visited dad on Tuesday the week prior, and the doctor called my mother at home Wednesday threatening to discharge him that day. He said he could discharge him by noon. My elderly mother, who was suffering from a virus at the time, said she couldn't bring him home that day as she wasn't well and so the doctor said he would discharge him Saturday. I watched my mother who was now given false hope that my dad would come home, clean the house and prepare his room. I too was cautiously hopeful, but I had also saw my father just a day before, and I knew it wasn't possible. He was failing and if the doctor had visited him, he should know too. If he couldn't see the obvious, he should find another line of work. In fact, frustrated by the lack of care and communication with the family, I had specifically requested an appointment to meet this doctor on Saturday to discuss dad's decline. Instead of showing for the meeting, the doctor sent the man responsible to discharging patients, who came, took one look at my dad and said, "...this is ridiculous, this man can't go home until he is better..." and he left. My dad was unconscious. A few hours later, he became alert but confused, then rapidly slipped into unconsciousness and he never came out...only a few short hours after the so called doctor tried to discharge him. The Doctor visited on Sunday morning and told my niece who was there, that he didn't think my dad had more than one or two days left to live. The day before, he was trying to send him home. That is the last anyone in the family heard from him. No phone call to my mother, no explanations, no preparations, no end of life instructions. Having experienced end of life when my best friend passed from ALS and also my dad's brother who I cared for as he was dying from lung cancer, I had some sense of what needed to be done, but I also know that the medical team should be prepared and able to walk the family through this difficult time. They were not, and we figured it out on our own. The doctor also has the responsibility to let my mother know what is happening and why...not a passing comment to my niece because she happens to be be in the room. Fortunately she is an LPN and has the experience and emotional maturity to deal with that information and called in the family, but she is in her early 20's and its unlikely the doctor knew of her medical experience. From Sunday until Tuesday we held 24 hour vigil. The family slept on chairs and a matt on the floor that my brother brought in for us. If we had known back on December 11th that this would be happening in January, we would have gone to hospice and avoided Red Deer hospital altogether as they were not prepared to support us in our time of need. They also gave us no indication that my father was going to die, even when it was obvious. In the end, we don't know why he died, and no one supported us, no one talked to us, and we might as well have been at home...in fact, I wish we would have been at home. At 5:40am, after more than two days holding vigil, my mom and I watched dad die, we let the staff know it was over, and he packed his things. We left his room with everything he owned piled high on his walker and we looked like the many drug addicts that pool in the doorways after hours, and from the looks we got from people in the halls, I suspect thats what they thought we were. I appreciate they are underfunded...every day there was an announcement over the intercom that they were over capacity. Its unacceptable and the province needs to take a hard took at what is going on there.

I'm normally stay at home when i have flus etc and every year now i get the flu shot...while visiting red deer not sure if food poisoning or a certain stomach virus ...but feeling dehydrated and tired of everything coming out of me mega times i decided after a nurse suggested i go into the hospital thought maybe he can just give me something for the nausea...6 hours later no sign of doc...not even getting sick in the waiting room speeds things up ...i would do your best not to get sick in red deer...quoted 2 hr wait... 6 hrs later. Doc has arrived..just in time to set up fluids and nausea medicine after i vomited for the 11th time..would have been nice to get earlier lol... Gave a couple stars for a couple nice nurses...at the end of my visit they gave me two prescriptions .. One was for someone else..i didn't notice til i got to the pharmacy lol

My wife and I just welcomed our beautiful baby boy into this world and I want to give a huge shoutout to the amazing team at Red Deer Regional Hospital labour and delivery ward. Thanks specifically to Dr. Wu, Jocelyn, Cara in the delivery ward and all the nurses in the post partum ward, especially Ashley for helping us and teaching us with our challenges. I cant say enough great things about the care my wife, son, and I received here. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Had to bring a friend to the emergency department early Sunday morning. He was admitted right away. Front desk nurse was nice who explained their Covid policy for visitors. They have reserved emergency parking right at the front door which is nice.

Very friendly Nurses and Doctors, Paramedics. Took care of me and all my freak outs in a quick and caring manner.

In June 2017 I was on the road between Edmonton & Calgary when we stopped to use the washroom. I was not on my period but I started to gush blood & tissue. Eventually we called 811 where the nurse told me I may be experiencing a miscarriage (we didn't know I was pregnant). By the time we got to the hospital & was seen I had stopped bleeding. At one point they told me it would take a minimum of 2 hours before I could receive a test result, so I asked permission to get some food. They said yes, as long as I was back within the 2 hours. I came back to my bed 40 minutes later and was given an earful about how I wasted their time in front of all of the other patients in the area because the test results came back quicker than expected. Shortly after, I could hear the nurses making fun of me while I was behind a curtain. When I left the doctor told me "Don't bother coming into the hospital next time you get your period" I have never been so humiliated in my life. To have a miscarriage was traumatizing enough.

Allan Roy Tabunan

Had a minor oral surgery this morning in the outpatient department. The nurse didnt even wipe dried blood off my chin and i was booking for another appoinment with the surgeon in the booking section. No one even mentioned about my appearance and i had to walk and pass by many patients in the waiting area as well as other people in the parking lot. I only noticed the dried blood when i was inside the car as i was looking at the back mirror maneuvering my vehicle outside of the parking spot. I know its november, but holloween was 2 days past already. :-(

And absolute joke of a hospital. Was called in Friday at 9am to have surgery on a broken nose and was still not taken care of by Saturday at 10am. Laid in a bed for over 24 hours with an IV in me for absolutely nothing. Terrible service and someone should have called when they had time to get me in. Not have me sit in a bed for over 24 hours. As a college student and someone with a part time job, I can’t afford to be wasting time like this. Can’t even put into words how disgusted I am by the service here.

Scott J Douglas

Absolutely the best experience I have ever encountered! I went to the Red Deer hospital as I needed a wound checked out, and had such an awesome experience! Nurses were so phenomenal and The Dr was very good as well! Thanks for all u do here ya'll

John Hillis

Thank you to all of our health workers in this difficult time. I had a CT scan done, from entering the building to leaving was under 30 min. Keep up the good work.

Mike Relkow

They have employees interacting with sick patients who are not vaccinated. If you are in direct contact with patients, make the vaccine for COVID 19 MANDATORY. IF they don't have the vaccine remove them from that role, keep the population safe!

Leandro Arcuri

Beside the fact that my daughter was born there, and we simply loved all the nurses who took care of her and my wife, we had an experience with the emergency that I really need to point out. We had an issue with my daughter when she was 1y5m and we needed to go to the emergency. After 10 seconds we stepped into the hospital, I was in a room with my baby surrounded by at least 5 nurses. A doctor came to see my baby in 15 seconds, giving all the support she needed. Thank you, Red Deer Hospital!

Sarah Rampersaud

This place is a joke. My boyfriend was in extreme pain with side effects of a blood clot and chest pain and we've been waiting 2 hours, meanwhile people who are perfectly fine are going first. Its not a first come first serve policy when someone has extreme chest pain. Will only come back here if it's the last place on earth.

John Ness

I was looked after promptly and friendly. Staff acknowledged I was in lots of pain , and took me in right away. Very friendly triage and staff and dr was attentitive and caring. Listened well. Thank you red deer regional.

Luke Herrera

Horrible staff, they act above their patients and have a terrible sense of what helping someone actually means. I went to innisfail hospital and received much better service and treatment. The two women I spoke to last night were flat out sarcastic b*tches, I could barely make sense of what was happening in front of me and they lost it at me for taking a phone call from a concerned family member. Won’t be going back unless I’m dying and maybe not even then! (:

Kendra Walz

Cared for me decent except on one occasion, I felt I was stigmatized as a "lowlife addict" even tho I've been clean for years. I couldn't get anything for severe pain. But I can also appreciate where they are coming from....but I WASN'T faking! On another occasion a fantastic surgeon saved my leg from a clotted artery. He checked with me often and followed up. Great smile and bedside manner. And the nurses were all caring and great. Its a hospital. And they are only humans so overall I am just so grateful they are there. Thanks!

dylan lacroix

Went in for 2 stitches ended waiting 5 hours an 2 in the room waiting for the doc, taking up room that other people needed, Ended up leaving after he left me for a another hour of no info, only go if you are in dire need of medical attention

Alex Cheeseboy

Pretty good hospital. I have been there a few times. Most of the time when i go there its to visit someone or to just mess around. I have seen every room in this hospital. Even the rooms that i shouldn't go in. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnddddddddddddddddd that's all folks.

Ernest Barbaric

Yesterday, I underwent a nasal operation in the day surgery department. I wanted to share my experience, because I was very close to cancelling after reading some of the reviews on here. From start to finish, I was very well taken care of. The facilities are clean and tidy. The parking might get a little tricky, but we had no issues finding a spot. The day surgery nurses I interacted with were lovely, supportive, and explained everything carefully and patiently. Moving into the OR, my anesthesiologist and his nurse were amazing and funny - which really helped get my anxiety under control, as this was my first time going under. Dr. Pabbies who operated on me also clearly explained the procedure and put me at ease before going in. The team that worked on me were all courteous and professional, and in no time I was soundly asleep and waking up in the recovery room. Overall, this was one of the best medical experiences I've had, especially considering the level of anxiety I had going in. We are privileged to have this level of health care, and I really appreciate the experience I've had at RDRH.

Tammy Crosby

In August my son was in the Red Deer Hosp ICU on life support for 3 weeks. The doctors and nurses that cared for him were so amazing and informative... ???????????? I'll never forget it. Thank you.

Helen Mcfarlane

Took my little boy in November to hospital. Emergency intake staff were very nice. They were pretty quick in getting our son into see the doctor. The doctor and nurses in emerg were very good with our little boy. They were busy as expected but definitely were trying their best . We got sent straight up to the pediatric unit where we spent 3 nights. The hospital had students in which we didn't mind at all. Our son was a great candidate for learning as he has autism and type 1 diabetes. All the staff including the students did amazing. They gave him toys, were so gentle and did well at helping me through the process also ????

Kristina

Needs an expansion. All the rooms & beds are constantly always full. ER times are awful, minor treatment doctors don't actually pay attention to you and just tell you to take Advil then send you home. Maybe if nurses/doctors actually payed attention and cared for the patients who come through Emergency, instead of talking about DQ and what they're doing on their breaks, the wait times might be lower than 5 hours

Tracy Hutchison

Any time I've been at the Red Deer Hospital and the cancer center, I've always appreciated being met with kindness and friendly conversations from staff. Thank you ???? "I believe that attitude is everything."

Daniel Lamontagne

As an inclusive resort, I was mostly disappointed. Check-in process was slow. Facility was over-booked. Rooms were shared and noisy. Bed's were needlessly complicated. Was not allowed to leave room. Decor was bleak. Meals were bland. Waiting staff kept harassing and stabbing patrons. Program coordinators knew a surprising amount about cardiology. Would have scored lower but they cured my heart problem.

Vicki Boisvert

The hospital is very inviting and kept very clean and tidy. The wait times are horrendous! The staff for the most part seem to be just moving along doing a job with no regard to human relations.

Brittany Clark

I just had my second baby at this hospital on Feb 3rd and I only have good things to say about the experience. Every single one of the staff members on the Maternity ward were absolutely phenomenal. We went through so many nurses in the 36 hours we were in the hospital and every one of them treated us with so much respect and love. I had my daughter in the Grande Prairie hospital 3 years ago and it was a completely different experience. I felt like a number there and didn't connect well with any of my nurses so I was very, very appreciative of these ladies. They are also all very well trained and were great at keeping us in the loop with anything that had to do with us. I will forever rave about my experience at this hospital because I was so blown away by the care that we received from start to finish.

Eugene Jacob

Honestly I just got a testicle surgery and it feels quite painful when they took almost 3 hours. The doctor wasn't in because he was supposed to get there. Although the service they gave to me was successful and I feel better because of them. Yeah the time needs to be improved, but the rest is fine.

lori bickert

My boyfriend broke his femur had emergency surgery . That was fine its the aftercare that wasnt good. He was sent to unit 21 for care and he has to basically fight with nurses for pain medication. The doctor overseeing the ward seems like he could care less about patients trying to send him home quickly without proper pain meds or making sure he can get around. Very horrible to be treated this way . When a person is hurt badly last thing they need is to feel like doctor and nurses dont care about them.

Nixon Carter

I don't think the doctors working here have actually taken the Hippocratic Oath...or they just aren't aware of the meaning of an oath.

Casey Johnson

Absolutely had such a great experience at the day surgery unit. The nurses are the most accommodating and kind people on earth. They made me feel so comfortable and were very knowledgable and caring. Any issues people have at this hospital I believe stem from the fact that it is a public health care facility. There will always be limitations within a Public system. But there were no limitations in the kindness that I experienced from those that helped with me.

Thom Skarsgaard

Even though they are under tremendous pressure right now, the staff there handle their jobs like professionals. The feeling of safety & security is nice to have.

Brittany Broere

Under staffed and over worked. I got sent from the Ponoka hospital to RD for a gallbladder full of gallstones. Sat in Red Deer hospital for three days waiting for surgery. Every morning I was told I was first in line for surgery, but every night they would cancel and push me back to the next day. They would not let me eat solid foods because my surgery “could happen at any minute”. I went 64 hours without solid food. By this time i still had not even met with my surgeon other than a short visit in the ER. Finally told them to take out my IV and we drove to the St. Albert hospital. Within 6 hours I had gone through the ER, saw a doctor, met with the surgeon, and was being wheeled into surgery. Six hours from start to finish at St. Albert vs. 3 days in Red Deer after 1 visit and then 1 over nighter in the Ponoka Hospital. I do not blame the hospital staff whatsoever, they are working with what they’ve got, it’s just a shame they don’t have more resources to care for the massive area that Red Deer hospital has to care for.

Gord Sylvester

My wife has been in Red Deer ICU, and I so appreciate all the care the nurses are giving to her. You can tell they care so much. There aren't enough stars for the nursing staff.

Tyler Hildebrandt

I went into the ER with a broken hand. They booked me an appointment for an operation and sent me home. They called a day later saying to come in. When I showed up they tried to get me to stay in a long term bed and fast for 3 days while I wait for surgery. I start to realize the whole scenario is wrong. I felt like I was being told a bunch of stories about why my operation is being pushed back and why my appointment was no longer valid. Needless to say I signed the waiver and left. I went to Edmonton for a second opinion. It turns out I only needed a cast for a month and I recovered fully. I have heard horror stories of how red deer hospitals do unneeded surgeries to make more money as well as keeping all their beds full. I waited over a year to post this as I wanted to make sure my second opinion was correct. My hand feels amazing and I will never return to red deer hospital. I would rather bleed my way to Edmonton then go thru that living hell again.

I arrived at Red Deer Hospital Emergency Department a few days ago with a very serious issue. The Emergency room Doctors and Nursing staff worked very quickly to figure out what was going on. I was admitted to hospital but due to a shortage of beds remained in Emergency room, through no fault of the excellent staff. The area they service is huge and between what they normally see and now also Covid the pressure on our Doctors and Nurses is high. Having said that , I was never treated so well from the Doctors to the Nursing staff. I cannot say enough. You will always have my support. Thank you so much for taking such good care of me. Note: Red Deer RCMP, Peace Officers, Police Services, Red Deer Hospital Security. While in hospital I was able to observe how our Law Enforcement really keeps us safe. Thank you, I do not know how you keep up with all the issues.

Mat Corns

Staff are compassionate and caring! The hospital itself just had a face loft to many areas and has made it much better. The emergency room is fairly busy, expect to wait 3+ hours to be seen! Parking is a bit of a joke, but what hospital parking lot isnt?!? I'll never understand how they fond it to be okay to charge people to visit their sick or injured loved ones, or charge a patient who needs to be at the hospital... rather silly isnt it

Dawson Armstrong

10 people in ER and its a 3hr20min wait. Absurd. Hospital is horribly understaffed and unprepared. Worst hospital in AB for sure.

JJ Hazen

I was told i couldn't come back for an MRI i had to stay the night in a chair because they had no beds. Only to be told that i may not get an MRI till the afternoon. Why couldn't i have gone home and slept? Red Deer Hospital is a joke!! They cant even supply a bed for the people they are admitting!

Manu Singh

I can't say enough good things about this place. The staff are friendly, the nurses are amazing and the doctors are efficient. Our healthcare system has issues but the people at this hospital do everything they can with the resources they have. Sure you might have to wait, but if its an actual critical emergency you will be taken care of right away.

Maureen Farrell

My daughter was prepped and ready for emergy surgery this morning.when her covid test came back positive.they made her leave the hospitial and await deparrure on the lawn.oh my god.

I was pregnant when I started developing cramping and bleeding and had went to emerg to wait from 12-5 to see a doctor for them to do bloodwork to tell me I had lost my baby with no support the doctor had told me and left the room and didn’t console me or offer any support ( I was by myself) as he left the room as I sobbed and cried just for a nurse to ask for my signature for discharge papers to deal with this alone. Not once did they console me which I understand professionals need to maintain a level to not involve themselves but at least offer a third party to talk to or bring in when you deliver this grieving news to send me home. As well as my family doctor calls me hours later to tell me I might be having an ectopic pregnancy and to go back??! After they’ve let me leave in this state ?! Always a joke here

R Clark

Went in yesterday for a very painful kidney infection. They were over capacity as that will happen in big city hospitals, but that still didn't stop them from giving me amazing service. From the moment I got there until the moment I left, I didn't go more than 10 minutes without a nurse or doctor helping me! I hope they read this so they all know how much I appreciate everything they did to make me better. People need to realize that the hospital looks after an area of 500,000 people. The nurses and doctors can only do so much and I think they go above and beyond

So I was in the er back on Oct 13th at this time I gave a urine sample at this time they said they lost it so I gave them another. Well today is oct 22 and unfortunately I find my self back here and gave a urine sample as I opened the door to put my cup in I find the sample I gave them 9 days ago. Now with covid-19 and being told that cleaning is being ramped up this is not right at all also the male nurse that I have tonight told me oh not to worry about it cause it happens all the time. This does worry me this is a hospital the standards of cleaning should be higher.

Thibaut Segers

Joshua Merchant did an excellent job on our case. He is a consummate professional who is always willing to assist me.

Mitch Lashmar

The level of incompetence at this hospital is both staggering and frightening. If possible, go to Innisfail or Lacombe, in my opinion most of these doctors shouldn't be allowed go practice medicine. I've been lied to, had medications forgotten to be given to me, prescribed wrong medications, and the list goes on.

Kc Kail

Only been in 4 different hospitals in Canada and this was the best experience I had so far. Nurses/doctors all polite and nice. Last time I was admitted an hospital I told myself I would rather dying than returning. This place change my mind. Thanks to all the staff of Red Deer Regional hospital!!!!

Corry Whitney

My experience in the spring for gallbladder surgery was amazing! I was informed of what was happening and why I was in pain and not allowed food or water, the doctors, surgeons and all nursing staff were very kind and in the wake of recent OR flooding I think things happened pretty fast. Thank you

Curtis Vandersluis

BRUTAL WAIT TIMES! went in for ct scan took 4 hrs and wouldve been longer had i not threathened to leave. Before talking with doc. Emerg wait times 3.5 hrs +. Got my blood pressure takin 5 times in an hour at 5 different wait rooms. No wonder they are so inefficient

Recently moved from B.C. interior to Red Deer. I have never been treated with so much care, respect, compassion and knowledge as I have at Red Deer Hospital. I entered emergency with a possible TIA and from the moment I was in Emergency to a week later all the nurses and DR. O.J. treated me like I was the only patient there. Just had a follow-up appointment at the Medical Specialty Clinic there and again the utmost care and compassion from Joshua the pharmacist to Melanie...Thank You doesn't seem like enough to say to them all.

Ashley Hazlehurst

This Hospital is a total joke, I went there with severe abdominal pains and a burning sensation, told them I had surgery 2 years ago for a tumor in the same area I am now having pain in and that the tumor completely destroyed my right ovary so that also ended up being removed. As well as I have an IUD in place, Triage nurse said IUD could be migrating and if so it can be dangerous. I sat in the waiting room for nearly 4 hrs waiting to see the doctor. Once in with the doctor I was told Emerg docs don't know how to check if IUD is in place and they cant check to see if there is a severe issue inside my stomach. Ill have to wait for a phone call from the hospital with an appointment for an Ultrasound. I basically told them to screw themselves and ill go to some real Doctors in Edmonton. Don't waste your time. Apparently Emergency Doctors in the Red Deer Hospital don't even know how to check if they can see the strings inside a vagina to make sure IUD isn't Migrating.

This abyssmal hospital knew my sister had a blood clot over TWO YEARS ago. They never said a thing about it, and because of it she almost died last year, she hasn't even left her 30's yet. She lost 70% of her intestine and is now permanently changed. She is now in emergency in Edmonton again. The type of bone marrow mutation she has is rarely this damaging. If dealt with properly all she would have had to do is take asprin daily. Now she barely has a life. These people are incompetant and negligent in every sense of the word. Criminally so. If you value the lives of your families DO NOT COME HERE. Go to Lacombe.

Kristen Cast

Funny how people are saying that the staff here is overworked and underpaid, we need to stop making up excuses for people with poor attitudes. Understaffed I can see but not underpaid. The one night I was in there there were more than enough people to help the one other person besides me in ER. I ended up waiting almost 3 hours before going into the ER and I was in SO much pain I couldn't keep quiet and one of the nurses said, "I think she belongs in the mental ward". There is absolutely NO excuse for anyone to talk like that. In the end I ended up getting touched when I didn't want to and I got on trouble when I wanted to leave. Let's just say I will be staying very far away from this place, so glad I didn't have my child here, they probably abuse them.

Cindy Mason

Thank you to all the staff on Unit 21. Right from the cleaning staff to the doctors. My 1 day stay ended up as a 6 day stay. I received top professional care. The empathy and treatment they gave me was very appreciated. Chris and Elaine 2 of my nurses have to be named as I think they went above and be on . Keep up the good work to all the staff at the hospital.

Jeremy Gair

Wait times are always an issue with emergency rooms. What I have to say though is that in my experience the staff do an awful amount for what they have to work with. Red deer has needed an upgrade in their hospital for some time and as a result much of the issues encountered are no fault of the staff but of the conditions. Consider this a review of the staff more than the facilities available. That part cannot be helped it seems.

Dan Lion

Went in there with bad pain and nauseated and extremely lightheaded. (I have a hiatal hernia) Took me into minor treatment. Two ppl who came in 30-40 min after me with ankle problems (not broken in any means from what I could hear) got seen immediately as I was still waiting to be seen by the doctor. Those two ppl had left shortly after. As I was still waiting, I waited close to an hour and a half In minor treatment alone to be seen by a doctor who was only going to order blood, wait for the results and then send me home. After waiting around for 45 min for blood lab to show I had enough, blood lab didn’t come *I understand it can be busy* I left. It aggravated me that people who had less severe problems than I got seen before me *or before a puking child* yes there was a puking child*

Alison Rainey

My husband received excellent, compassionate care in Emergency last from the paramedics, nursing staff and the doctor. He had to wait a couple of hours but was monitored closely and received appropriate treatment. So thankful for our health care system in Canada.

Jessica Foster

I had my son in May. During labor the nurses and doctors were amazing and the doctor who did my surgery was extraordinary. Afterward while I was recovering , I was harassed, made fun of, and I had a nurse make up a rumour saying I did hard drugs, which I never did. They also were refusing to discharge me on my day of discharge that thu set for me. Since the rest of my children will be cesareans, I am definitely going to try and go to Calgary. I will never go back to Red Deer.

cam mctavish

What dedication! I can't believe these folks could ever deserve any criticism. I came into Emergency yesterday with a heart issue and they were on it in a flash with exceptional competence and (in spite of everything) cheer. They did an excellent job and got me going again. I later learned that they were very understaffed due to unvaccinated people infecting them. Thank you Sara and all in Emerg in the Red Deer Hospital! We all owe you so much!

Christine Reilly

I had the misfortune to spend some time.e in this hospital in 2010. It was the worst experience of my life. Nursing staff quarreling with each other. My own nurse treated me like dirt and refused to help in any way. Crying telling me to shut up that she wanted to go home. Not professional at all.She went out of her way to be nasty. I was to ill to fight and I didn't hang around in Canada to make a complaint. I was left for weeks waiting on my treatment chopping and changing doctors. Doctors going on holiday and left me to rot. I can't find the worst words to explain my feelings for my treatment. Eventually had cardiac arrest and was transfered to Calgary. I had better treatment there.

Tia Neubert

Best Nurses took the best care of me and my loved ones,:)

5 Stars to the RDRH! 5 years ago I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and had surgery; the day before the Cancer Center (Nov 27, 2013) opened. I was treated in Chemotherapy and Radiation with the utmost respect and care. In the following surgeries at the hospital, once again the Plastic Surgeon, the recovery nurses; all guarded my health with care. Dec 2017, I fell and broke my wrist as a result of a faulty City sidewalk. It was 4:30pm and I went to emergency - waited along with a lot of other people. I was given a sling and a Tylenol prior to seeing a doctor; by the admitting nurse, perfect! Within 24 hours: my wrist was manually reset (in the emergency room), x-rayed, spoke with Surgeon, told I would need surgery, admitted, on a ward at 4:30am (no available beds - so they made one up for me in the visitors room), had surgery, recovery and then released at 4:30pm. My experiences as traumatic as they both were - were treated by all the staff: nurses, doctors, transporters, technicians and more - with the utmost care and concern. So, yes, 5 Stars to RDRH. I also would like to say that I agree with many in Red Deer; we need a larger hospital, more doctors & surgeons, or another hospital for our community.

Joshua Krettler

My wife fainted and had a seizure and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, there we waited for 5 1/2 hours just to be told it will most likely be another 2 hours until we see a doctor, while my wife is waiting patiently in agony because of the massive gash under her eyebrow from where she hit the floor. We left after that news to ponoka hospital where she was treated immediately and with respect. This hospital is a disgrace for a city the size of red deer.

Jessica S

The worst hospital I've been to. I was sitting behind a curtain waiting for hours with no other patients ahead of me. The doctor was too busy flirting with the nurses to help me. I have a low pain tolerance so I was pretty much screaming in pain with torn tendons in my foot, and they gave me some low-grade pain meds (pretty much Tylenol) and crutches and sent me home 4 hours later WITHOUT a cast. It's been about a month and I still can't walk without a limp or walk up stairs. Now I most likely have irreversible damage in my foot. Red Deer hospital is a complete joke. Don't waste your time here.

I hate to do this, I dont enjoy leaving a review on a vital service like this. But how can they get better if they dont know. I would say 80% of staff are great and very helpful the rest are useless. I dont get why they would work in an industry they hate but the issue is ER times. I'm not a person that goes to the hospital with a cough, I only go if there are life threatening problems. How can a person who has pinched a nerve (assumed at the time)becoming a paraplegic in essence be forced to wait 10+ hours and have the feeling I'm being judged because I cannot feel my legs or move them. Then I'm told I'd have to most likely come back to get an MRI.... seriously this could end up permanent if it's not treated quickly. All they wanted to do was send me home with drugs and no scan, I dont want narcotics I want a solution.

Cheryl Jones

Unit 21 Maria awesome. Hubby ended up back in 2 weeks later. Rushed in nurse that was on the phone would give NO info and hung up on me. Yes i am upset being over an hour away.

E Bell

I was only visiting a patient but as hospitals go this one is 5 star! Very friendly staff. The patients rave about the food! Seriously!! The patients (at least the ones I spoke to) also raved about the care they received. There are beautiful indoor gardens so patients can stay connected to nature or spend quality time with family & friends.

I recently started have "stroke like" symptoms this week, one sided body weakness/ odd sensation, slurred speech, sudden loss of motor power in legs, headache, You know, how a stroke presents. I had to go the ER twice in 1 week, twice on the weekend, all times AT THE ADVICE of a Dr/health care provider. First time at the ER was told it's likely migraine. I have NEVER had a migraine that made me develop sudden stroke symptoms: no diagnostic imaging was done at that time. I detest going to the hospital, (especially now with resources so thin) So, second time it happened I called Healthlink, thinking migraine and I'll be told to stay home and rest. I was told hang up and call 911 it had reached the point of an emergency. But I got the "migraine cocktail" YAY it helped! I can feel my leg/face/ again! Until I started having severe side effects from those meds, ended up back at the ER for treatment to counteract meds they gave me) Was told if it came back or gets worse COME BACK IN. The symptoms came back worse and now with noticeable bells palsy. Every time I went to the hospital it was following advice from a Dr/ health care provider. My last trip to the ER with worsening neuro symptoms was today. 5 hours of waiting to see the neurologist to determine if it was stroke. Finally get to see the neurologist, finally had my head scanned. He does an exam (5hours after onset of symptoms, symptoms much less noticeable, still have the droopy face, weak leg problems walking) only for the neurologist to declare verbatim: "this is all in your head"...and "sounds like this is just a cry for help".... " you've been here recently" ....asking if I have "stress in my life", ..."The next time this happens try to ride it out at home". ... Please think about that.... A neurologist told me if I ever get new STROKE SYMPTOMS again to "TRY AND RIDE IT OUT AT HOME." Could it be a stroke, could it be some weird new migraine, how am I supposed to know!?! I'm not a Dr, I can't tell the difference they can present the same symptoms!! That's why I was told to come back if it got worse! I just wanted to know if I was having a stroke or not. Instead I left the ER with a droopy face, difficulty walking, one sided numbness, no attempt to treat my new symptoms and a list of people to talk to...You know, so I can talk away a possible stroke. That works right? The nurses, dr's and other staff were wonderful, helpful, kind and compassionate, they made a terrifying health scare manageable. Another (nice) dr did try to clarify for the neurologist, saying that he may have simply been suggesting to try to remove stressors from life in an attempt to limit future hemiplegia migraines .I have been minimizing my migraine triggers for the past decade with limited success, but sure.... Here's hoping I don't have anymore "stroke like symptoms" that I get to ride out at home.
