A++ service! Dr. Campbell is amazing and I am so thankful to have made my way to him and this clinic! He has potentially saved my pet and has allowed for me to finally give my pet the care he needs and deserves in his old age. I will never see another vet on the island without referral from this clinic. Following are some of the reasons I am so happy to have found this professional clinic. After many devastating and severely wrong diagnosis from Highland Animal Hospital in Inverness I went to Port Hawkesbury due to hearing amazing reviews. Reasons why I will never trust the services offered through Highland Animal Hospital in Inverness again: 1. Diagnosed an eight year old, female, solitary house cat as pregnant when she had been in heat for months on end and had never met a single un-netuered male. Charged extra for non-existent abortion. 2) Misdiagnosed infection from injury for deadly tumour inside another cat's head (was told it would change the shape of his head and eventually kill him). 2i) Medications for said tumour nearly killed my pet when his hair started falling out, he stopped eating/drinking, started losing even more weight (even though they insisted they had never heard of this reaction before (Metacam.. Has a long history of issues that anyone can read about.). 2ii) Was given liquid antibiotics that the vet knew cat could could not digest because it was already acknowledged that cat had digestive issues for the 10+ years I owned him. Upon returning with my sick, rapidly losing weight and now sitting himself cat the vet did a basic look into his physical file and realized the digestive issue we discussed while I was there in the first place was why the medication was an issue... 3) I was repeatedly told that my 15+ year old male cat who was exhibiting clear and obvious symptoms of hyperthyroidism is "fine", "normal", "not under weight" (even though he rapidly lost 5+ pounds) and that he just had a digestive issue... A digestive issue he had the entire time I owned him even though his sudden weight-loss, increased appetite and other blatent symptoms were very new. ZERO tests were ever run or even recommended. This man did everything by visual assessment. Always. In the end my cat DOES have hyperthyroidism. To such an extreme that he recorded as off the charts. Highland Animal Hospital in Inverness offers deadly services from a dated and out of touch man who does not take his job nor his patients seriously. Beware their services. I know I'm not alone.

Dr. Henderson provided excellent care to our puppy who was in for vaccinations. Wait time was minimal, flow of pets through the facility was very efficient. Staff was very reassuring and informative throughout the entire process. Strait Veterinary Hospital even arranged to transmit the pet records to our regular vet. An excellent visit and would definitely drive the 2 hours again for this awesome level of service.

We would like to highly recommend and sincerely thank everyone at the Strait/Baddeck Veterinary Clinic(s) for the excellent love, care, and medical expertise offered to our little 16-year-old Shih Tzu, "Honeybear". The compassion and empathy offered by Joanne, Dr. MacEachern, and Dr. Henderson during Honeybear's final visit were exceptional. We will always remember their professionalism and kindness; veterinary doctoring at its best. We also greatly appreciated the gentle, practical guidance offered (for our consideration) when Honeybear's health was fading. Thank you very much.

On Friday, my beloved Sheltie, Morag, had to be euthanized. She had suffered some sort of stroke, she was in terrible pain, and she had lost the use of her rear legs. Jo-ann, the receptionist/assistant, immediately arranged for Morag and I to be seen. Dr. Kierstead and Jo-ann were just amazing: so professional and so compassionate. Morag was 11.5 years old at the time of her passing, and she was always seen by the Strait Veterinary Hospital from the time she was purchased in May of 2009. The staff always provided her with the finest of care and I will be forever grateful to them. If I am fortunate to find another adult female Sheltie, you can bet that the Strait Veterinary Hospital will be my choice for her care as well. They are simply the BEST!

I know someone brought in 2 cats and one had an infection from being spayed .The vet never did the check up before doing the vaccine and now one cat is dead after being rushed to Metro emergency vet in Hfx .

We have a Cavaliers king Charles 12 year old little girl, she became sick while we were traveling on our vacation, after contacting many veterinarians office and were turned down, the staff at the straight were able to give us an appointment the next morning. I was so impressed with the service and the professional service that we received. I would recommend this facility 100%. I would like to say thank you again to the wonderful staff.

We recently had our labrador undergo CCL repair surgery performed by Dr. Sommerville. Dr. Sommerville and staff are absolutely wonderful and compassionate. We unfortunately had to have the same surgery done on our older dog a couple of years ago and she has done wonderfully. We strongly recommend this clinic for peace of mind and great veterinary care. Thanks guys for taking great care of our 'babies'!

I had a house in Halifax for years and I decided to buy a house back home to get out of the city, have more space for my girlfriend and I. Serenity now. So, six months ago I bought a house in the country, I already had my dog Sasha for just over six years and when I got her from the Bide Awhile shelter in Dartmouth, they thought she was already 7 or 8 years old and nobody wanted her, so I took her home. It was one of the best decisions of my life. I loved her so much and one of my only thoughts was that I hoped she lived long enough to make the move and enjoy her new house in the country, which she did but just a few nights ago, she basically died in my arms. The next morning, I called the Strait Veterinary Hospital in PHK to see if I could take her up and get her cremated. They did everything right over the phone including payment immediately and they were so caring. I brought her up, they came out and carried her in. I'll get her ashes back in the next week or so. I would recommend this place to anyone because they were so compassionate and made the hard process as smooth as possible. They are absolutely the best and I appreciate them.
