REVIEWS OF Penticton Regional Hospital IN Penticton

There is a nurse who was working at the late shift on Sunday night. She had tatoos on one arm ( they call it a sleeve tattoos). Anyway. She should not be a nurse, she would probably be bad as a waitress. No politeness or caring for patience in the emergency wing. Treat seniors with no respect and neglected there needs. This was a experience with one of my family members. Fix this!!

Drove all the way from grand forks just to be told the CT machine had been down for 2 days. Why didn't they phone me? ????????

I want to say thanks to Doctor Connolly. I was treated efficiently and with respect. Great Doctor who cares about the patients. The rest of the staff were great too but I didn't get their names. Your service is appreciated.

I had a colonoscopy here. And a mammogram. And MRIs. Ad once to emergency. The colonoscopy went just fine. I would probably give it a 4 stars for the colonoscopy part. The MRIs went better now that they have a new machine. The workers were so stressed with the old machine, bedside manner just got thrown out the window. They also couldn't answer simple questions like, "where do I follow up about my results?" because they were clearly under strict instructions to say it depended which doctor the results went to. It's my right to follow up with results, and the idea of "no news is good news" only works when doctors are not overworked and look at the test results. Even good doctors miss things sometimes. It seems obvious I should follow up about my own results. I would give a half a star to the mammogram team. I had to go multiple times to get the mammogram. I needed to have an operation on my breasts after getting the mammogram, so we needed info about both breasts. Some radiologist kept changing it to one breast. In order to relay information from the mammogram room to the radiologists, the technicians have to walk across the hospital. It's ridiculous. And very time consuming. When I got the info from Ehealth, I only got info about one breast. The surgeon was really upset and not understanding why they would do that. I did not know either. it made her job harder. There were so many miscommunications, it was ridiculous. The half a star is only there for the mammogram team because the technicians were very nice and professional. Otherwise it would have been zero stars because the set up is so disorganized - and it seems to revolve around the ego of the radiologists? I'm not sure, but something should be done. Each time I went and they rescheduled due to information they didn't have, the technician would say, "I didn't get that information. There's nothing about that on your chart." Each time. Each time requiring communication with radiologists that were not there and somehow they could not use phones. How many times should I have to explain I need both breasts for a surgeon in the near future? Getting disks of my results on the other hand, has been easy and appreciated. That process seems to work well in all sections of the hospital. In the emergency room, I was told, "You're fine," when I was actually reacting to a strong antibiotic and experiencing anemia, that would eventually get bad enough so I couldn't get out of bed, work, make dinner for my children, etc. If I had a nickel for every time a doctor said, "You're fine," when I wasn't, I would be a rich woman. To his credit, he did check and saw my hemoglobin was low. However, I brought the offending pills and he dismissed that the anemia could be related. I was badly sick for two months because of side effects to amoxicillin clavulanic acid. I also ended up with many other side effects, including yellow and grey teeth. The anemia triggered arthritis. I've never felt so bad or been in so much pain in my life. Side effects to drugs matter. I think side effects to drugs are going to be affecting more and more people. I no longer want to take anything they offer because I end up sicker than when I started. The "You're Fine" comment has been a reoccurring theme. I usually don't wear makeup if I'm going to the doctor's - it's the only way I know how to avoid that condescending mistake of an assessment.

I was pleased with the service when I was there in March it was not busy at the time and my needs were appropriately taken care of.

Jacquie Williams

I have had numerous occasions to be at Penticton Hospital both in emergency and hospitalized for a week or more and I have nothing but the highest regard for the staff. They are courteous, considerate, friendly and caring, and extremely patient with those who are far less patient and much more demanding.

I've been here 6 days and it has been a nightmare, I only see my stand in doctor possibly once a day ALL the nurses state that they all have their own way of doing things?? Whats with that? How is that allowed? They keep changing my meds without notice and start talking down to me as if I don't understand...... I've cried every day and have also changed rooms 3 times as well.... some of the doctors won't even fully walk through the door to check up on me and they never close the the door/curtain for privacy I am so dissapointed with this hospital, its been the worst one I've been in Canada

Chris Reid

Recently had knee replacement surgery and I was totally impressed with the nursing staff with their care and comfort they showed me. Considering the difficult times we've been living with lately and they've had to work under I couldn't have been treated better.

I had to rush my 4 year old daughter here last week to Emergency and all the nurses that helped us out were absolutely amazing!

I broke my ankle on the first day of vacation in Penticton and going to this hospital was the best decision we made. I was in and out of the hospital with X-rays, a diagnosis, and a wonderfully done up splint that was extremely comfortable in less than 2 hours! I went through several improperly fitted splints when I came back from vacation in my local home town hospital, so I certainly have a feel for splints that are done well vs bad ones. The staff at Penticton hospital, doctors and nurses, were amazing. They took such good care of me and told me all the precautions and care procedures. I highly recommend this hospital!!!

Roland Kaluzny

Went to the hospital this morning at 830 with major problem in my groin area. After waiting a hour 2 people were called before me. After that the second check in nurse cane out and demanded I show her my problem in front of a woman and her daughter, I said I would like to talk in private and she again demanded I show her right out in the open, I refused so she then took the next person waiting behind me. I was then left in the primary waiting area for 2 more hours only to again have 3 more people behind me be called before me. This was the most embarrassing and insulting visits to a hospital in my life. I've never met such condescending, unprofessional medical staff.

Azalya Leach

Nurses were thoughtful and helpful! Fast and efficient doctor. I had a diagnosis and my pain was understood. I believe the right steps were taken to get me on the road to recovery and home resting as fast as possible. I have not always had a pleasant experience but tonight i did, and I am grateful.

Atrocious access to health care. This hospital is a major downfall for the town.

Terrible staff, don't care. Go to kelowna. Wake up. Read other people's reviews

My daughter had a small lump on her eye lid. Not an emergency but ALL clinics told her to go to PRH or wait at least a day to be seen (after a phone consult). The RN at triage decided to diagnose and put her at the end of the line although the ER was not busy at 9am. As an ER nurse and visitor to the area without a GP we were without health care services! The arrogant triage nurse (young male) was the worst!

Gary Wilson

Friendly staff ( understatement). You’re on the right place when you’re admitted here!

Jessie Dunlop (Artist)

Had blood tests done, lab staff were very friendly and professional.

tommy Li

We waited for 1 hour and the doctor only told us to go c a family doctor. Horrible attitude and horrible Doctor they should fire him

Jennifer Lucas

Spent a month here as hubby is sick, not alot of food options, pricey.

Tim Marketing

I am grateful and appreciated for all the works they do for my small family when my wife deliver a newborn baby stay in the Penticton regional hospital. Thanks so much all doctors, nurses, housekeeper for all dedication. Thanks again!.

Richard Harris

We were sent there from Oliver hospital and found our reception and care there to be wonderful, especially under the renovation conditions the nursing staff and other staff were operating under.

Tyler P

I always get good service here.

Raini Mack

Doctor Gatenby and all of the staff at Penticton Regional Hospital were professional, friendly, compassionate, competent and fabulous! I was really impressed with everyone and had i not been in such discomfort, I would have remembered all of your names. Thank you so much for looking after me; it was definitely not something that would go away on its own.

Richard W.

I have been in and out of this hospital for both work and personal reasons. Believe it or not this is a well run hospital and provides proper care for the area. I've heard people complain about staff, management and the hospital itself. I assure you, if you knew what it takes to operate a hospital or if you could live one day in the shoes of a nurse or Dr. , you wouldn't complain much. I've worked in a fair number of hospital's in BC and I can assure you this hospital is nowhere near being a bad hospital. Just for the record, I am not an employee of this hospital. The nursing staff and physicians deserve appreciation , not ridacule at this hospital. Unfortunately, all hospital's will have wait times when they are busy and under staffed. It's not the hospital's fault.

Janice Reece

The nurses and doctors were so friendly and made my brief stay very comfortable. Thank you

Daniel Hightower

3 hrs waiting in the waiting room. The waiting room are so empty, you could hear a church mouse fart.

My husband has been admitted to this hospital 2 days ago for an accident. The staffs there are totally neglected, and my husband still has not hot a change to brush his teeth and wash his hands. OMG. Each nurse comes with different information, and now he doesn't know what situation he is in. Can any one help? I am in Vancouver so I cant not come to help him out. He got broken bones and for 2 days they told him to use one hand to hold the other arm up. OMG please somebody help.

Terry Vandament

Emergency and the Hospital are like black and white this review is about my experience in Emergency. Upgrading this is the worst place to come I'm in extreme pain and they left me sitting in a waiting room they don't need a new hospital they need Dr that cares all they do is stand around. The staff is very ignorant the only way they will see you is if you come in an ambulance. This place SUCKS. All they really need is new staff.

Joe Andreucci

Long waits . only to tell me what i already knew . denied pain relief . but if you are a junkie and just want to get high . theyll happily give you a morphine shot . laziest staff. If you have any problems might as well self diagnose or go out of town to a hospital that genuinely cares ..

My husband and I are snow birds living in Osoyoos in the winter and in St. Albert AB in the summer. It was the last day in January, while out walking I fell on some ice, foot went into a hole, twisted and I broke three bones. We arrived at the Penticton hospital to discover many happy and helpful volunteers who were able to quickly answer any questions and direct us to correct place. We arrived at the Cast Clinic where we met Nurse Marie. She was incredible. She was on the run, looking after, at least four patients at a time and a smile that never left her face. We were at the clinic four times and it was always a great experience. SURGERY- Dr. Styen showed us the x-rays, explained how it could be fixed with surgery, but took time to explain all the options leaving it up for us to decide. I was impressed with how efficient and yet understanding he was. I had complete faith in him and we went ahead with the surgery. The most outstanding experience was in the operating room. Everyone in the room came to the table and introduced themselves and explained what their job was. This took away all my fear. I thank all the staff at the Penticton Hospital, I would recommend you to everyone. PS- We understood that there is a lot of construction going on but did not find that parking was a huge issue.

Hung up on me after saying she could not guarantee I could be safe and everyone would be wearing a mask in emergency. Literally over the phone just said she could not guarantee anything. Good to know they wanna spread covid through the hospitals

The most disgusting Hospital in North America. Cst Knock of the RCMP made me sleep on the floor in Emergency Room with a head trauma and concussion after being robbed and beaten at approc. 2am on New Years day 2017 leaving the Penticton Lakeside Resort.

Best Spa Day ever! Went for Day Surgery today and want to thank staff on 2nd floor, if every Hospital visit was like this I would never want to leave. Thank you all so much.

I came in for suicidal thoughts and waited for like 8 hours - which really didn't help my situation. I also came in for a seizure once and waited 4 hours to be seen. Edit : (July 14, 2019) Came in at around 11:30. Sat in the waiting room for what felt like 2 hours. Get moved into the bandaging room "the doctor will see you shortly" ok ok cool. Another hour passes. Goes to ask nurses "oh, well, usually takes up to 4 hours." With added rudeness. While another has their back to me. All of them at just looking at their computers which are relatively blank. Still waiting. It is 2:05am

Not a big deal who are you to say that to me if it weren't for the public these so called tecs would not have a job .I'm going to go to Kelowna a really hospital with up to date well maintained equipment and trained staff.

Wife broke wrist 21/12/12 on ice. Staff very helpful and polite in ER. From start to finish only 4.5 hours to discharge. Half the time it would have been in UK! This post from a UK resident.

ER today for a dislocation. Told it was a 2 hour wait. Three hours later it's a 4 hour wait, four + hours and now it's 5-6 hours and no one knows anything. Sounds like a management problem - no one's in charge down here

Ima Tell Yea It's For Real

Well, I lived there last week for approx. 3 days. 2 nights. Got in early on Friday around 1:25-2:25pm. Left Sunday around... I'd say... 11:00-3:00pm. Quite honestly - not my favourite place. My #MAXWEST phone went missing. It's gold. In a case. Looks like a Grand Prix / Prime5 or so... . My gold and diamond prescription VERSACCE glasses went missing ... $500-$740 later :'( Also went my favourite lighter, my hoodie, my favourite necklace... etc. I'm done with it! Also went 1 single $10bill. Thepurplekind. One blue five. Luckily not 2 blue bills'

Awesome staff thanks nurses for all your help

Hello Does anyone care

Staff are great but when you try to phone you get a machine that leads to another machine about 5 time and no person and they dont call the day before your appointments for a reminder

Guy Ward

Id rather die than ever have to return to this hospital. All front line receptionists need waaaaaaay more training. They seem really put out when someone presents with symtoms. Zero empathy, compassion or even basic decency. Completely discrimintate against those with anxiety/depression and have been told that emergency aid would not be delivered to me because I had anxiety..... I believe that's illlegal, but hey anything goes in Penticton

lynne fretz

Good place to work very busy

The upgraded part is real nice. The old part is still a bit nasty. Why is funding for hospitals not our governments #1 priority?

I have lived in Penticton for 21 and have used the services at PRH a number of times. I cannot say enough about the care and attention my family and I have received over the years.

PRH is the best hospital very best bedside manner in the Okanagan

Every single time I go to the hospital most of the nurses are gossiping loudly about patience with mental health concerns or the homeless that come in for help. I've been belittled and called names and accused of being on drugs when I have a neurological disorder that slurs my words and paralyzes me. I do not feel safe there. The there's a nurse named Liz who was amazing and spectacular. She treated me like a human being! Other than Dr. Nino, all the doctors have been okay experiences.

Vernon Smith

Thanks to all the fantastic staff , you took great care of me and made my visit as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

Danielle Lucier

My visits to PRH for tests have been great. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming from the great volunteers to the techs, and of course nurses and doctors. We are very fortunate to have this wonderful facility in the SouthOkanagan!. Thank you to all.

Absolutely awesome. I have had a number of family members need attention at the hospital and the care has been exemplary. Yes sometimes you have to wait a bit in the emergency department but if your issue is critical they make sure you are cared for.

Dan t

This was amazing service I was admitted about a week ago ..I had a heart attack the place was old and crusty but the nurses on the 3rd floor were the best you could ever ask for ...Candace,Diva Jocelyn,Amy Kimberly and all the rest sorry if I forgot you but will always be grateful for your loving care I would give a 10 star if it was available..keep up the great work.Thank you again Dan hugz

Malibu California

They told me to go home after I got raped because it was "3am! Nobody's here to give you a rape kit! Go home and come back tomorrow" ...Yet a rape kit MUST be done within the first 3hrs. Then I ended up sick with pneumonia & bronchitis. It was getting quite severe and I needed my inhaler. (Salbutamol) they told me that my chest sounded fine and I should be "just fine". Yet I was born premature & with underdeveloped lungs- with Jaundice. & overdosed on medication and was brought back to life in 2009... & I can barely breathe because my mom was smoking while pregnant with me. then, I went in to get acne medication. My face randomly swelled up like I had been stung by wasps all over. I'm anaphylactic so I guess it was some sort of allergy and I didn't have my regular epi-pen on me. They waved me home for that- as well. Then, I went in for a broken arm. Twice they told me it wasn't broken. Went to the hospital in Kelowna and they immediately casted me because I had a partial fracture and a severe break... jeez!

Dekland DeCoste

Currently waiting in ER to see a doctor for pretty bad chest pains coming from my heart area. Triage nurse, he barely looked at me or asked me questions related to my pain and now it's been over an hour since then with no indication to moving forward . I thought they are suppose to take chest pain seriously???

karen shaw

Sure would like to know how long I have to wait for an MRI appt. The Dr sent in the request 10 weeks ago. Chronic pain is no fun. When you phone they won't answer your question.

Scott Tupper

I go here 3 times a week for dialysis. The staff is kind and caring! I've also been to the Emergency area a number of times. Each time I felt that I was listened to and the issue was resolved.

Gurpreet Sidhu

Went to the ER and was treated promptly and with respect by the attending physician and medical staff.

Eifs Armour

Worst hospital in BC If you voted NDP you have screwed everyone The hospitals are full of junkies , All the regular people sit and wait 4-5 hours to be even looked at & the staff are mean and miserable

Doreen McKinnon

I have been waiting since 7:27 PM and it is now 11:11. I have a 11 year old who needs a few stitches in his head and we have waited here all this time watching others go through ER. It is not busy with patients. But perhaps a lack of staff. Very frustrated. And have a very tired and hungry young man waiting to see a doctor. So he can go home to bed.

nancy lovesnature

Megann Laevens

Took 4 hours of waiting in hospital for me to get emergency surgery, in pain on the floor because no beds we available, so disrespectful next time I'll get someone to drive me to kelowna.

Lyn Vinters

I agree with other reviewers regarding the bad attitudes and sense of entitlement problems here. I went for an X-Ray which involved an out of town commute. A reception person in charge rudely and with condescension directed me to the waiting area. After waiting an hour, half naked, I asked why others who came later were being served before me. A new receptionist checked her computer and said I was not there. That is right, there was no record of me being there!!! I went home and heard a telephone message asking me to commute back for another appointment. I wrote Interior Health half a dozen times. There was no hint of accountability with this department either!! It was another 100% complete waste of time. Be warned! Some people in charge at the Penticton Hospital X-Ray Department are better suited for work "Packaging Meat"! : but then even that job would put the public at risk!! They should not be "Entitled" to work anywhere! Period!

Bruce Dayton

Absolutely awesome. Emergency room was on top of things. The emerge doctors, nurses and staff were first rate. I have been in, one of my kids, and my wife. We are from the Lower Mainland and just can't say enough about the Penticton Regional.

Diane Rodewoldt

Thank you to everyone for all that your staff doctors, nurses, technicians, maintenance, volunteers etc. Every day hero’s and angels. I was in the hospital a few months ago. Thank you for all you do. All of you are amazing.

Dalyn Mutch

Horrific. I've never met a ruder and more inconsiderate staff. Please choose another hospital if you are able.

Greg K

The underground entrance is a bottle neck lots of delay in getting to parking spots , it's an accident waiting to happen. Cabs park out front drivers are in hospital . There are a number of parking spots by entrance for eye appointments that are usually empty. A few should be made available for cabs. Entering the hospital you have to look for a number to take and people are coming and going at same doors, it is a circus.

brendan russell

Shout out to the friendly and compassionate medical staff at Pentiction Hospital Emergency. Presented last weekend in severe pain, seen by Megan a great triage nurse, recognized I had a medical emergency and immediately seen by ER Dr Harold and provided exceptional care with relief of my distress. Special thanks to Dr Neil Crofts for attending.

Jessica Paul

Two times now I’ve gone there 1. They misdiagnosed my partners hernia and then 2. Last night they refused to help me as I wouldn’t sit in a waiting room that had two Covid positive patients coughing in it…did not go in to clean…wiped down with a damp rag only no bleach spray nothing. I was refused medical treatment because I respectfully declined to sit in a Covid ward waiting area when I don’t have Covid at all. I will be contact a mal practice lawyer now because of this situation.

At this time of wild fire's and Covid the Staff and volunteers do 110%. They had all the Covid 19 protecals in place.

I phoned the hospital and the girl was most unfriendly like I had disturbed her. I cannot believe the attitudes at your hospital and we the tax payers pay their salaryand to feel so unwelcome. There are too many nice friendly people who would do hoops to have the job you should make sure hiring these people they are going to enjoy their jobs.and enjoy the public A concerned tax payer

Myson Effa (PemGateway)

ZERO stars would be prefered rating if possible. My rating> ???????????????????? Waste of Money to raise funds to buy advanced equipment for incompetent staff that don't even know how to use email, or pretend not to. Penticton Hospital Sonogram dept refuses to send appointment info by email or phone will only send by Canada Post. What to do for a Senior who's too infirm to make it to the mail box???

Wendy Allan

Working in housekeeping is horrible at Penticton Hospital. The management in housekeeping bullys and harasess their employees, on a constant basis especially if they are Caucasian and if they don't like you or want you working there they will find a wat to suspend or terminate you. If you put in complaints to the Union or Work safe government because nothing is being done about this ongoing problem you are garenteed to be fired even though you get raving reviews from The nurses and wards that you clean. The CEO of Penticton hospital really needs to look at their managers and supervisors in this department because it is a disgrace to the hospital and a ongoing battle for the employees.

Get more staff. Not even that busy and still had to wait over 2 hrs to see a Dr. Who was rude and useless. Cleanliness was subpar. I have been to third world country hospitals that are much cleaner. Exam room had some dried up stains on the floor, overflowing garbage, hair and dust everywhere.

Waited for 4 hrs in emergency today to watch people who came in after me get put ahead of me even tho their injuries wer minor. Then wen I finally saw the dr he was rude and didn't even anser my questions or acess my situation he just said go to therapy.rude staff and rude drs. The worst hospital I've ever been too and the dirtiest too the place was filthy

Personally I have never been to this hospital but my sister was there for a bit over 2 months....on the medical floor then on the psychiatric floor...she did not provide any contact info for the family so when I found out she was there I started calling and the people who work there were so extremely rude from the receptionist.....social workers and nursing staff on the psychiatry floor......I was told that I was not on the "list" to get information on my sister, who mind you suffers from mental illness, and due to the confidentiality thing could not say anything......these people went so far to tell me on several occasions that "there was no one there by that name" which was a blatant lie......I believe there is a big difference in saying that they can not give out info and lying to you that she was not there.........It was crazy.....every day I called and every day I got different info......and I would change it up some and call during the day and was told she was not there ....then I would call in the evening and was told she was there but could give no info. It got to the point that I did not care about what they would or would not tell me....I was comfortable knowing that she was still there....and then they starting lying about that too. Social worker, Marcell on the psychiatry floor took it upon herself to have my sisters personal belongings moved to a storage unit and her car moved from where she was staying......is this legal?

We called to check on a family member only to be told he had not been admitted but he clearly was there and still is.
