This is a health care facility and you would expect professionalism,cleanliness,compassion and sadly they have NEITHER! My father in law was transferred to bruyere 2 weeks ago and today he was taken to back to the civic with pneumonia. Im not blaming his ilness on the hospital but the fact that his room was not cleaned for the entire 2 weeks minus the 1 time my wife had to basically demand and force someone to come and clean. When she approached the staff she was told they dont clean unless you ask them which is ridiculous since rhis is a damn hospital, by name its a hospital atleast. The nurses are pompous and arrogant and GOD FORBID you speak English because that's the Forbidden language in that hospital . Again they seem to work only by force and were annoyed by having to actually care and do their job. When you are in a vulnerable situation and being in a hospital is one of them, you need someone that's it makes you feel safe, feel good about the moment although temporary, someone who shows sympathy even if theyre faking it and someone you can easily apptoach without the fear of repercussions or judgment and sadly those characteristics that a real nurse has is missing along with many other things. This is in no way an attack on race or religion or culture it's criticism learning experience if used correctly and I hope that Im the last critic of this place of medicine

My Mom went in for rehanilitation after a surgery at the Ottawa Civic. She has complained about bad staff lying to other staff and neglect. She tells me the fod is beyond awful with no variety (same thing for breakfast lunch and dinner day after day). I have been unable to speak with anyone or visit. The Ottawa Civic was very accommodating and spoke with me daily. My Mom has been in this hospital for 10 das and bo one has spoken to me about her care. She is a senior and should not have to be her own advocate. Thisis unacceptable. I'm very unhappy.

My brother is in the stroke rehab clinic at Bruyère and we have tried numerous times to reach the treatment team, without success. Very frustrating especially since he's to be discharged in a couple of weeks. I don't understand why this is happening and in my opinion, very bad services.

The parking lot attendants have dramatically improved since my previouse comments. They become very friendly, and very helpful. ======================= Visitors go to Bruyere not for fun. Either they are patients, or their loved ones are sick. However, the parking lot attendants do lots of verbal insults at the visitors. Such as, -Did I say you can park at this spot? What is wrong with you? -Your face is the saddest face. -If you want to damage your car, you can park there. -Demanding visitors say thanks to them. -Yellings. -etc. The parking lot at St Vincent Hospital is also very busy. But their attendants are very patient, very polite, and very helpful. Why are attendants at Bruyere hospital so unprofessional, so rude?

Don't you just love it when over 90% of the medical facilities are broken, including the nurse call button for emergency situations, and the place is so ridiculously understaffed that no one ever has any time to come to you even when your loved one is having trouble breathing and is about to faint? Ottawa hospitals are absolute trash and this place takes the cake of it all. Hire more damn nurses--and just a suggestion but maybe people who can actually speak clear English would be helpful--and train them better. The 'someone needs help' bell is ringing 24/7 here. This place is the one that needs help.

We feel extremely lucky for my dad to get excellent medical care during his stay! Dr Deveaus, all the caring nurses, PT&OT therapists, the social worker and staff on the 3rd floor (Geriatric Rehabilitation) went above and beyond the call of duty to care for my 93 years old dad, who has all kinds of difficulties other than physical disabilities also lacking of hearing, vision, and language. We can't thank you enough for your expertise, kindness, and compassion! You are simply the best!

Got an appointment scheduled after a referral from my doctor. (Took a while but wait time is long and that’s understandable). Was told they were going to call to confirm it. They never did. Between my school bag containing my agenda being stolen, me being in finals in a law program, raising a 4 year old and working as a legal assistant, I got my dates mixed up. It didn’t help that I was waiting on a confirmation call that never came. When I finally called to see when the appointment would be they informed me of this. Fair enough, I apologized. When I asked if I could reschedule it (ready to wait the time again) I was told no because they have too many no shows? No shows that no show because they don’t want your service and are too lazy to call and cancel don’t typically call you to apologize and reschedule. If someone gets a referral because they have a genuine health concern, it sort of sucks to just deny them service. This whole situation is incredibly frustrating, I am now assuming I need to go to another appointment with my doctor, explain to him what happened, get another referral with another facility and hope it isn’t this place? Just reschedule me and make me wait the wait time, Jesus. I’m not asking for special treatment just TREATMENT at the least. Anyways, I’m sure the service and staff might be good but I guess I’ll never know because they are just not accommodating whatsoever.

It is no wonder that the Palliative Care unit is the gold standard in this hospital given the extraordinary commitment to excellence , compassion , patient first concerns and staffed by top professional doctors and nurses who thrive to make patients feel like they're family. Furthermore , communications are outstanding with relatives or family permitted to visit . Nurses Laura and Hannah are top of the class in all respects and exude a calming demeanor and timely care. Doctors Cris and head Dr Lawlor are excellent . The Chaplin provided good information and wise suggestions . Wonderful humans all in one place who helped me get through it
