It was extremely good. Thank you!
Came front Toronto as soon as my dad was admitted with a high degree of heart failure. I’m single vaxed but had a mask and a negative covid test that morning. We called to make sure my nephew would be allowed in. Needless to say we’re weren’t allowed entry to see my dying father. The icing on the cake is that they wouldn’t let us use the washroom that was 100 ft away after a 4 hr drive. Lucky for us, he rallied and things look way better than they did. Thanks guys for the understanding with this! ????
PATIENTS BEWARE. Extremely incompetent service. It is incredulous how they dealt with my husband's heart problem. He went in with severe chest pain and breathlessness but they sent him back after ECG and blood work, telling him he's fine. They did nothing for his symptoms which the family doctor said were clearly that of Angina. He bore this pain for four days and finally called 911 who took him to the Heart Institute. After blood work the cardiologist told him. "you had a heart attack last night and some of your heart is damaged. However, were sorry we cannot do an angiogram on you as there are NO BEDS FOR TWO DAYS. Shocked in disbelief he asked "will my heart continue to be damaged", to which the doctor replied "I'm afraid so." In the US if a doctor did this his license could be cancelled. After much hue and cry they did the angioplasty after NINETEEN HOURS, and told him he had a widowmaker heart attack. On discharge he was not even given a single dose of medication so he had to go to the pharmacy directly after discharge and again in the evening to pick up the medicines. It has been two weeks since the angioplasty and there has been no follow up with ay cardiologist. My husband is a pilot and a policeman and if hes not recovered quickly, he might lose both license and his gun.
24. Aug, 2000, my life was saved. Thank you, for taking such good care of me and my family.
I am always thankful for all the things they have done for my mom's health and well being. They sure have excellent staff and caring services.
Efficient and polite
Outstanding surgical doctors and nursing staff in OR and ICU recovery! The research that has been done, and continues to be undertaken, has created many life saving moments in many people's lives.
A family member of mine has been in care with them for a week now and they have provided her and our family with outstanding support. Heart Attacks are traumatic for everyone involved and they've done a excellent job answering our millions of questions and accommodating for her needs.
Had an ablation done here.been great for a couple years now.super nice staff and probably the best cardiac Dr's in North America if not the world
Great doctors
Ottawa hospitals are not what they used to be, Spent 2 nights at the institute after being admitted through emergency, could not get any rest while there, to the point I left, I had removed my heart monitor and it was off for at least 25 minutes while I was getting dressed and ready, no one batted an eye until I dropped it off at the nurses desk, And then they physically prevented me from leaving until I signed a waiver. Worst experience I ever had and it's no better today, Doctors are there to make money, they don't care about your health. No support when inquiring about the COVID shot apart from the general policy of recommending the shot( she didnt even care about what my affliction was ) , Don't trust them.
(Translated) Really not a nice hospital for a French side no sustained effort and always shocking when you speak to them in French ... they make decisions without your saying a single word and not listen when we talk to them. (Original) Vraiment pas un bel hôpital pour un côté français aucun effort soutenu et toujours choque quant tu leur parler en français... ils des décision sans que ta dis un seul mots pis écoute pas quant on leur parle.
Knowledgeable professionals, wonderful source of support
The Doctors, Nurses and all of the support staff (volunteers included) were absolutely & incredibly caring, considerate and kind to both my 90 year old father (the patient) and myself (patient advocate) in the process leading up to & following a successful TAVI procedure. Everyone there went out of their way to ensure the patient was well looked after without every making him feel like 'just a number'. Kudos to all! We are all very grateful.
*EDIT* EVERY interaction I've had with this hospital and its staff has been horrendous. Starting with my heart attack they kept me for an extra week forcing me to undergo unnecessary tests only for them to have to do the test I wanted at the end of the week. Then the spam calls for follow up appointments and when I call back I get rude nurses who obviously hate their job and refuse to help you. THEN TO TOP IT OFF I come in to an appointment and wait for 30 minutes in the waiting room and you cancel my appointment and tell me I can sit for hours and hope someone doesn't show or reschedule after I just paid to Uber there. I'll never be coming back. Would rather have another heart attack than deal with your "tests" and terrible staff. Cannot describe how beyond frustrating it is dealing with these unprofessional people. I manage a retail store and we treat our customers better than these "health care workers", that's embarassing.
The University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) is Canada's largest cardiovascular health centre. It is located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It began as a department in The Ottawa Hospital, and since has evolved into Canada's only complete cardiac centre, encompassing prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, research, and education. UOHI cares for more than 100,000 cardiac patients each year, and patient satisfaction is among the highest in Ontario, averaging 98 percent. The Heart Institute is affiliated with the Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa. The institute also provides training to more than 100 physicians annually and runs an extensive cardiovascular research program, with 60 principal investigators and research funding of approximately $65 million a year.
It is the best hospital that I have ever seen. Here doctors treat the patients with love and care. I have no words to say but seriously I want to recommend this hospital to cancer patients.
Doctor Quinn and all his Staff deserve a great hug from the Heart
Yesterday, Nov. 12, I had a PET scan on my heart. The technicians, Bonnie and Valerie, were wonderfully caring and actually made me feel relaxed before and during the scan. Bonnie chatted easily about general things and made me feel right at home. My breathing was a bit of an issue but Valerie took it in her stride and in no time, we got rolling. Both ladies let me know what was going to happen each step of the way and were so comforting! I can't thank them both enough for the way they handled me and the test in general. Well done, Bonnie and Valerie!!
Very professional..
Very competent and expert doctor and very humble and nice as well. He takes his time to explain the health problem and he gives all the possible options. He is very competent and does his best to restore the heart's valves instead of replacing them. My mom is very lucky to have him as her surgeon. Thank you so much dr Mesana.
This place saved my grandma and grandpa s life's . The staff is friendly and amazing. One of the few places I can see my tax dollars going to work for all that walk through the doors . Maybe the best place in North America for heart surgery.
Great care and thanks to nurses and doctors of the icu and the 5th floor save my life for sure no thanks to a hospital in Eastern Ontario along the border so thanks Ottawa heart institute
(Translated) On May 16, 2018, I had an angiogram and Angioplasty. I received Extraordinary service with a lot of compassion and empathy, despite the whole team being very busy. I especially appreciated the service of Lynn the nurse and Dr. Froschl the surgeon. What a fantastic team! A long overdue 'thank you' to the staff that saved my family member's life over a year ago. Can't get more 5 star than that!
Fantastic everyone was great
The Best doctors, Nursing staff and support staff who excel in their job. You cannot find a better facility in the world for heart related problems.
The Nurses and Doctors on the ward were absolutely amazing but following my grandma's TAVI procedure the uses in the ICU were awful, they were rude and did everything at there own pace not realizing that we had been waiting over an hour to get her disconnected to bring her home while our ride circled around the building. The next thing I have to mention is that they released her the day after her procedure (she'd been in there a month waiting) and 3 weeks later she landed in the Montfort with a bad infection of the Valve and her blood was so infected it was like poison and they told us she only had 24 hours to live.
Great people, great atmosphere
Well on new year my bf mother had heart attack was brought in and immediately put through surgery wich went very well they were very good to her and amazing she now practitioner recovered and feeling much better wich she thought was her fibroses was in fact her heart …. Thank u to the heart institute professionalism and caring of their patient

They welcome my Dad with open arms when he needed open heart surgery in 2000 when he was 79 yrs old. We flew there from Newfoundland since the wait list was nearly 300. My dad lived another 15 yrs after that and died from other causes. Thank you Dr Keon and staff!!
I wish there were more stars I can give to the Heart Institute. The doctors, surgeons, nurses and hospital staff are fantastic and really care for their patients. Being a training hospital they are always innovating with new procedures and technologies. The lab technicians are great answering questions about the tests while giving patients confidence that you are in good hands. Even the orderlies are friendly and give kind words of encouragement. There is also an excellent rehab program that patients can take advantage of. The hospital staff give strength, hope and empathize with families and patients during troubling times. It is no wonder why the hospital is so successful in improving the quality of life for so many.
Amazing institution. Surgeons, nurses and rehab all of the highest quality.
I'm sure most of the doctors and nurses are good but the ones I had to deal with as my dad was passing clearly graduated at the bottom of their class. Jesus H. Christ doctor said I was developmentally challenged without any baseline except meeting me when I had to process all the information and relay everything to my other siblings and my dad's brother. Same doctor continuesly treated his staff like garbage. The one nurse that let us know was oblivious and willing ignore what I said despite all signs and everything.
The University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) (French: Institut de cardiologie de l'Université d'Ottawa (ICUO)) is Canada's largest cardiovascular health centre. It is located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It began as a department in The Ottawa Hospital, and since has evolved into Canada's only complete cardiac centre, encompassing prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, research, and education. UOHI cares for more than 100,000 cardiac patients each year, and patient satisfaction is among the highest in Ontario, averaging 98 percent.[1] The Heart Institute is affiliated with the Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa, specifically the Faculty of Medicine. The institute also provides training to more than 100 physicians annually and runs an extensive cardiovascular research program, with 60 principal investigators and research funding of approximately $65 million a year. UOHI was founded in 1976 by Dr. Wilbert J. Keon, with financial support from the Ontario Ministry of Education. Keon worked with numerous partners, including all of the hospitals in the region, the University of Ottawa, and the Ottawa Hospital Regional District Planning council, to ensure the vision of a world-renowned institute would unfold as planned. The first phase of the Heart Institute—the Cardiac Unit, as it was then known—officially opened on May 11, 1976. UOHI is now the sole, independent provider of specialized cardiovascular care for the Champlain Local Health Integration Network, home to over 1 million people (9 percent of the population of Ontario), and serves more than 40 referral hospitals throughout the province. In 2004, UOHI recruited Dr. Robert Roberts from Baylor College of Medicine to serve as President and Chief Executive Officer. Roberts, an internationally recognized investigator in the field of molecular genetics, was brought in to place a greater emphasis on research within the institute. Shortly afterwards, UOHI established the Ruddy Canadian Cardiovascular Genetics Centre, the first such centre in Canada and one of only a handful worldwide dedicated to cardiovascular genetics. In April 2014, former Heart Institute Chief of Cardiac Surgery Dr. Thierry Mesana took over as the third President and CEO of UOHI. UOHI’s division of nursing manages or supports programs and units within the Heart Institute, including the cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs, the cardiac operating rooms, the cardiac surgery intensive care unit and the cardiac intensive care unit. UOHI offers specialized cardiac nursing training and education in a number of areas, such as critical care, provincial programs in cardiac CT, cardiac PET, artificial hearts, and pulmonary thromboendarterectomy.
Saved my life. Highly courteous and humble staff and doctors.

Incredible doctors and nurses couldn't have asked for more thks to everyone
uh, .. lady giving me an MRI this morning was incredibly rude. Never been treated like that by any health care professional in my life (and I've been in hospitals getting heart surgeries since 2000). Not sure who it was, brunette about 5'6-5'7, looked about 35. In on morning of November 4th took my MRI. She needs to fix her attitude. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the rest of the staff seems to be ok. This hospital I'm sure saves lives. Important work. But it's also important to treat people with kindness and gratitude.
Great doctors and great care. They really seem to take the time and explain options and medical procedures. Had bypass surgery. I can't complain about the care. However, upon registration I was strongly discouraged to ask for a semi private room even though my insurance covers it. I was told by the attendant that there was a 90% chance I would get one anyway and that "I would have to be extremely unlucky to be in a ward". Well I'm in a high traffic ward trying to recuperate. My son went to give them my insurance info and now they say they don't have one available. Funny thing is that taking a walk earlier, many semi private rooms only had one resident. Very disappointing.
Thank you Very much to IAN.. what a awesome person.. thank you again..he help me out for the scan ..what a Nice person .. and Kelsey also ..thank you..sadly i receive some bad news ..but service was super. . thank you Very much again
Every experience first rate. Posted by Lawrence Hobbs (not Lynne).
Simply amazed at my brilliant cardiologist, Dr. Froeschl who did my Stent procedure. Truly grateful to all his assistants too and the ever caring nurses who made sure I'm comfortable and well looked after. Thanks Dr. for a new lease on life! Stay amazing...
So professional and accommodating!!!
Efficient and hardworking staff who also manage to be caring and amiable! I had three separate tests on the same day and was expecting the worst with trying to coordinate everything, and was so pleasantly surprised what a smooth operation they run!
I must say that for a world renowned Cardiac Institute, I have NEVER been subject such a poorly run institution! I have serious issues. Only part of required tests were performed. I am awaiting another test that is very important. Cardiologists ask your present condition. Virtual call?!! what a travesty. If I have to spend FOUR hrs to undergo tests all the while risking MY health during Covid 19, the least these doctors can do is show up AFTER ALL tests have been concluded. NOTHING was explained!. I am worried sick. One said I must go on waiting list! And if circumstances change..just go to ER! This is an institution lacking care. So now I must go elsewhere for help. i have CAD and would expect immediate help. A place of disarray. Not a single explanation of what tests show. I get proper HONEST PROFESSIONAL explanation from St. Joseph's Medical Centre where I will be forced to go and receive proper care under guidance of experienced doctors led by Dr. W.F. Pavlosky. This is shameful!.
Great Doctor
My brother has been trying to get a follow up appointment for months, with no luck. He is also on a waiting list for a family doctor. Now his meds have run out and I fear for his health. the pharmacy refuses to provide repeats. The hospital just keep giving him a runaround...
Possibly the best treatment I've ever experienced. Exceptional doctors and an outstanding nursing staff.
Excellent! The nurses and cardiologists were amazing. Everyone was extremely attentive and informative and supportive. Thank you!!
Brought my wife’s 86 yr old brother in yesterday for tests for shortness of breath and to have his pacemaker checked. I am very appreciative when I meet a doctor or support staff (nurses/orderlies/admin) who has not become jaded from the difficult work he/she does especially in the midst of this COVID mess. Maybe everyone at UOHI was having a really good day yesterday. Too many coincidences for that theory. We couldn’t believe the empathy, compassion and efficiency between departments to make his same day admission a possibility. Dr Higinson, his admin staff, the pacemaker clinic doctor and staff, and last but not least the entire team of angels on H5 led by a real-life angel (Sarafel). Thanks to all of you for making this happen as smoothly as anyone could hope for.
I would like to say thank you to all of Dr Nery s team for the amazing care and support in the operation surgery and day ward team who took care of me very caring team thank you you are all amazing
Doctors are amazing but nurses have ulterior motives and hidden agendas. Be vigilante and watch your elderly closely! Be aware!!
Nurses and Cardiologists were very polite and extremely professional!
Everyone at this hospital is professional. They are caring and compassionate. They really enjoy working here.
Had a pacemaker put in on the 8th of October. Not one complaint. Everything was taken care of with minimal stress or worry. Everything was clearly explained and the staff was absolutely outstanding!
The cardiologist are highly qualified in there particular field of expertise. The nurses are very attentive to each individual's need.
I had an echocardiogram this morning & arrived with severe anxiety. The experience could not have been easier, though, thanks to the exceptional staff & easy-to-navigate layout. I received the results from my doctor exactly 2 hours after the echo was performed. Sincerely grateful for the fantastic care I received! Many thanks to the Ottawa Heart Institute :)
Wonderful medical staff if orderlies nurses, physio team, specialists and the residents. Excellent care. Genuine caring people. #1!!!! In the best hands fir your carduac care.
