This Hospital corresponds to the category of University hospital.
Waited for over 8 hours before I was seen by a doctor. There was only one doctor there and a bunch of nurses! Very very inefficient.
I have met many great nurses and doctors who work here and have given great service do provide first class care.
I spent months in rehab after spinal surgery, and the treatment I got at the General was second to none.
horrible experience for something simple
I been there for more than two hours landing in a bed at the emergency room was empty and I never see a doctor. The nurse was watching the news at the computer and the other was texting. I leave without see a doctor. My pain is still there but my bed is more comfortable than the hospital beds.
My girlfriend recently had a 3-day stay at this hospital during a medical crisis. What I witnessed during this stay was world-class care and staff who were kind, caring, and extremely compassionate. She was provided everything she needed and nurses were happy to help make her more comfortable in any way they could. I cannot say enough about the staff and care at this hospital.
Slow wait times, poor customer service... I'm the only one waiting for an x-ray and it's been 4 hours.
i am wait for a dr 3 h and the hospital is not busy and i am waithing no body's show up it's a hospital or nurs dr time wast
i was waiting for 4 hours and the people at the Ottawa hospital don't care about their patients!!!!!! I have school work to do and I would recommend to never even consider coming back here bad service and bad employees!!!!
DON'T GO TO THE ER AT NIGHT. I was disgustingly disappointed after my visit to the ER and saw Dr. Fisher. I came to her because I'm here as a student and don't have a family doctor. I told her how I've had chronic sinus infections in the past, so much so had a corrective surgery (which helped a lot! This is my first sinus infection since. Had the surgery at the St. Catharines General with Dr. Robichaud, not here). I told her about my symptoms, headache, pressure behind my eyes and sinus area, stuffy nose for weeks, couch, sore throat (from the infection dropping into the throat), fatigue, thick yellow mucus and some blood. These are textbook symptoms, especially with the very YELLOW mucus, but she said these are not symptoms of a sinus infection, I wouldn't have a headache, fatigue, or sore throat??? If you google sinus infection symptoms you can see on Web MD a write up by a UCLA doctor talking about how these are the exact symptoms you would face. She told me it was vital and sent me home, saying even if I did have a sinus infection the protocol is only to give antibiotics after 3 weeks of the severe symptoms?! I don't know if this is true but if it is that is the most ludicrous thing I've heard. I came to the ER because it was finally so unbearable I wanted antibiotics (I usually went without in the past). Now to say I had to be this in pain and sick for three weeks to get medication? I've never heard that, and no doctor has prolonged my suffering like that. She was completely unknolwetged about the symptoms and was absolutely no help. The day time ER doctors get a 5/5, they're knowledgeable, compassionate, and they don't rush you out the door. I'm not sure how Dr. Fisher is a doctor but she was of no service to me. By the way I saw another doctor, who wasn't just out of U Ottawa, who had been practising for 30 years, and she said I have without a doubt a major sinus infection and badly needed antibiotics. Life lesson, get a second opinion if your doctor dismisses you entirely.

Last night, my mom and I went to the hospital because she could barely breath. She couldn’t eat, drink or even sleep. When we got there she started getting worse. The hospital wait was 6 hours plus 2 hours after they call you in. A total of 8 hours just to see a doctor!! There were only 16 patients in the waiting room so I don’t understand why there would be such a long wait. One of my friends once suffered a miscarriage and was heavily bleeding. They had her wait in the waiting room for 3 HOURS, while she was covered in blood and still bleeding. My friend had lost so much blood she fainted. Their system is very slow and it’s hurting patients.
From the first time I was admitted to emergency to the time I left three days later I was treated with nothing but respect, these nurses really care about people and love there jobs and so did the doctors that took care of me, just want to thank those nurses on the 7th floor for making me feel like family, very compassionate and I wouldn't go to any other hospital...OUTSTANDING JOB
(Translated) Its medical services hospital is excellent around the clock (Original) مستشفى الخدمات الطبية فيها ممتآزة على مدآر السآعة
Good morning, I need your help, I need to find an person, his name is Antonia Machado and he works with you, is a chief in Nursery or Enfermary, thanks you, I'm uruguayan like she
I came with my friend to the ER and we have been waiting for over 6 hours to see a doctor. They keep saying you're first in line; the doctor is coming soon and my friend is in so much pain. It really isn't good that patients are kept waiting and you see the doctors around but they never come to talk to you.
Worst hospital ever. I was having mc bleeding and they only did some bloodwork and sent me back. 6 hours of wait at the ER then No followups then i had to go to another hospital where i was immediately treated.
Recently visited the genetics department and was pleased with the service and staff. We waited maybe 30 minutes which is exceptional compared for example with Quebec where we would have waited hours maybe days who knows weeks.
Very impressed. I came in for back pain and was in and out in about 2 hours. The doctor was very attentive and kind and the staff were all cheery and helpful, best ER experience I've had so far
In hospital for nine days and the nursing staff on the 6th floor is the best that I've seen. Understanding and caring is their second nature.
What an amazing campus location (General) especially the Cancer Centre what amazing staff! When you're going through something pretty intense it's been a comfort to us that from the greeter that opens the door to the reception staff, and nurses who work tirelessly and the amazing physicians - they're all so amazing - and parking here is much better than the Civic - where my rating wouldn't be as high but this campus is truly amazing! Thank you!!!
Service here was terrible. My sister came here due to the fact that she had a miscarriage and she was panicking. They didn't speak to her at all about what was going on. They left a needle in her arm for 6 hours. Very unprofessional.
Great place to ge healthy
Eye institute is great. Long wait though.
I've been here 7-8 hours, haven't even left the emergency room. Slow staff and slow staff
Took my mom in to drop off a sample at the lab. We went to register and was told we didn't need to and we could just walk over to the lab and hand them the sample. So we went to the lab and had a lab tech yell at my disabled mother and go out into the waiting room with her stool sample and wave it around yelling at the woman in charge of registering people. She came back and proceeded to yell at my mom again while shoving the sample into her face telling her she's supposed to register. We tried to tell her multiple times that we tried too but she wouldn't listen. My mom got upset and said this was embarrassing and the woman said "you can leave now" we tried to file a complaint but never heard from anyone. The hospital has signs everywhere about respecting people yet the staff can't even do that.
Emergency wait room always full
Waiting over 9 hours and still waiting
My wife was in a car crash where the vehicle was totaled. The protocol was to make us wait 8 hours and move us place to place to wait more. But as soon as we threatened to leave all of a sudden there were so many people available. If you aren't dying or dead you aren't important enough to see. This place is dirty, dark, and slow.
They made me wait for 5hrs. and turned me away from emergency room after the wait time was 3hrs30mins. I asked for an explanation for why they made me wait so long and the nurse would not give me a straight forward answer. The nurse also had, what was supposed to be a private/personal conversation with me in the middle of the floor even after I insisted that she speak to me in private. She was repeating very loudly things written in my patient files as well as things I told the nurse in triage. (This is illegal practice) The nurses themselves are very condescending. They DO NOT know respect. I will NEVER come here again. Try Montfort, it is cleaner, brighter, and give a better patient experience
Wow I wish there was a lower rating. I am currently in observation bed 9 waiting on pain meds was told by my admitting doctor I could have them right away. I rang my call bell at least 7 times and no one came waited for an hour and fifteen minutes before a nurse popped her head in and turkey asked what I needed.
I was treated in emergency and had the best experience I have ever had in any Canadian hospital (Toronto & Montreal, for reference). The staff are so kind, professional and attentive here. They did multiple follow-up tests when it wasn't clear what the issue was from initial testing, and they signed me up for a follow up appointment because I don't have a family doctor. Never condescending or dismissive of my concerns (I have experienced this often elsewhere) and happy to answer my questions. Really exceptional service. To address the other reviews complaining about emergency wait times; that's the unfortunate reality of our healthcare system. 4-6 hours is nothing. Try living in Montreal and having to wait 13! And free healthcare isn't worth a 4-hour wait? An $800 charge for non-residents is expensive? Are people really this naive? I've lived in the US, and an emergency visit there will cost in the thousands to tens of thousands of dollars. I'll take the Canadian system any day. Those who are unhappy can hop the border and actually try the alternative.
My time at the General was somewhat traumatizing. Do not come here if you are having mental issues. My loved one has been dealing with mental health issues for a while. Me and him both decided to go to the general to seek help, i had gone to the civic for the same reason and they were of much help. What the General decided to do with him was lock him in psych and force him to stay for 72 hours... pump him up with meds and not let me see him.. also tell me that if i come pack to PEZ or whatever its called security will walk me off the campus. This is unfair and he is being treated in an unhumanily manor. They fully knew that he did not want to be in any way or form locked in a room and they tricked him into going in the locked psych ward place (PEZ). Before coming to the hospital i assured him that nobody was going to hurt him or force him to do anything. The nurses kept saying that they cannot force him to do anything. Well so much for that seems to me they are keeping him there against his will. I will be calling the patient advocacy phone line. The civic is a much better hospital in my opinion, staff at the general on a Friday night do not seem like compassionate people on the job.
After I came in from an Emergency accident with a catastrophic brain impairment the staff were really kind. It was a hard recovery but they helped me get back on my feet. Thank you to Doctor Najdeic especially.
It looks like for the health proffessionals are doing their jobs like it s another day but for me it was a New beginning of treatments that I have never experienced before...of course! Hats to everyone there working like it was just another day at work for them...It touches my heart to know that we have proffessionalism and experienced personel working at a very important institute that answers to the need of the population. Sincerely...thank you! Pierre E. Miron
The staff at this hospital are great. I don't know how they deal with so much stress on a daily basis. Thanks!
Had to make an ER visit. When I got there there were about 40 people. Initial estimate was 4.5 hours. Actual time ended up being 3 hours. When I did see the doctor it was very fast Dr was very nice, friendly. Had me stitched in less than 5 mins.
I had my baby there last week. I had a very unplanned c section. The doctors made the executive decision despite my protests, I didn’t understand how dire my baby’s situation was. I am thankful for their decision. However, the real MVPs were the nurses, especially the mother/baby unit nurses. I have never been in hospital care so I only had an idea of how important the nurses roles are, but now I know first hand. They took care of me and my baby so well after my surgery I will be eternally grateful. I also had 5 failed outpatient inductions prior to the c section that the nurses took care of me for as well. I’m going to try to remember their names of the ones who stood out. Walid, Nancy, Renee, Nadia were so good to me but my favourites were Jovanna and Corinna (sp?)
They always say the wait will be a few hours. Longest I was in emergency was 2 hours ( wait and seen doctor ) and shortest for the whole thing was 45 minutes. They know what they are doing and always assess who needs to be where and what doctor should see you. If I need to go to a hospital I always prefer this one. Even getting blood took no time at all!
Want to thank all members of Ottawa General for their continued care during these crazy times. You continue to provide the best care. Your screening process is great through the main entrance. But I feel that this could be better implemented at emerg as lots of people are using Emergency due to their family Dr's not seeing them because they are showing minor symptoms of covid.
IF YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE ANY SERIOUS SICKNESS OTTAWA IS THE PLACE TO BE. THE OTTAWA HOSPITAL IS A WORLD CLASS CARING FACILITY
Worst experience ever! During my honeymoon in Ottawa, I needed to took my wife to emergency due an urgency, she was suffering a lot of pain. First of all, just because we were tourist, we needed to pay $ 860 Canadian Dollars just to provided her access to be reviewed. It is crazy, but as this was an urgency we didn’t care about it, I just wanted my wife to be attended and checked. After this, they take her to a room and they attend her AFTER 5 HOURS!!! How come ? This was an emergency, they have only 1 doctor for the whole area and they told me that she needed to wait my wife wasn’t dying. The only thing we get for almost $1,000 Canadian dollars was a 3 minutes medical revision and a prescription. How come this can happen in a “first world” county. If you are in Ottawa and have an urgency you better go to Queens, these guys only care about money and don’t care about our health and wellness.
I had surgery today on my knee by dr. Pickel. Though he was a phenomenal surgeon, immensely friendly, comforting, caring and willing to take the time to explain everything so you’re educated and comfortable with what they are doing. The nurses 100% need to be acknowledged . I am terrified of surgery and they made me feel so safe and taken care of. Each one of my nurses was immensely friendly and considerate always asking if my pain was manageable, if I needed a pillow or a warm blanket/water. They made sure I was stable enough for discharge and even helped me to the washroom after surgery. But all in all it was their amazing personalities and their concern for their patients well being that amazed me. And same for the anaesthetists, they were willing to take time and explain the process, whilst reassuring me I was okay while comforting me the whole time. Thank you all for making my experience so pleasant
It's a pretty busy place, my experience with the NICU team is amazing. I can't thank them enough, they are so dedicated, professional and loving people. Extremely attentive to the need of the patient and their families. Great team work.
I'm getting a medic alert bracelet with will be inscribed with, "NO OTTAWA HOSPITAL". That should increase my chances. I have, for many years been dealing with the Ottawa Hospitals. There seems to be an antiquated and myopic view for the administration and politics that create the culture. They are saturated with wastes, inefficiencies, errors and poor communication. As I see it, this is not the fault of the workers, but the culture as created by politics and shoddy enterprise architecture. If the Ottawa Hospital and governments of today were to use some modern, proven Lean methods (enterprise wide, not just little projects), they will reduce non-value added actions, increase value, and eventually increase and stabilize employment. All to the goal of customer satisfaction. They chronically cut jobs in response to budget pressures, but what sustainability does that bring? The Ottawa Hospital greatly reflects the failings and lack of longer-term sustainability of the Canadian healthcare system. Other provinces (such as Saskatchewan) and municipalities are thankfully developing past this destructive behavior.
Wow they are not nice,,I was drop off safely.I was there for I guess 4 to 5 hrs later,The said your done its just muscles NOT and I have only a little memories,I told them I don't know where the bus is or how to get home they said go to the security guard he will tell you " WAS SHOCKED THEY TRICKED ME LIKE A HOMELESS PERSON"Looking for a nite to free sleep or a DRUG Addict OR SOMETHING NOT NICE Just the way throw me out I cried and on the way out I talked to 2 people one in the store and one in food court SAYING IF YOU SEE THIS FACE ON THE NEW AND THERE LOOKING FOR ME REMEMBER ME I SAID I WAS FRIGHTENED SO MUCH BUT i LEFT WENT TO THE WRONG BUS PLACE IT WAS A SMOKING PLACE,IT GETS REALLY FRIGHTENING AFTER THAT,A GUY WAS TALKING TO ME THEN FALLING ME,,,,,,,,,,,,,,IF WAS VERY PAINFUL TO KEEP MOVING I WAS SO SO AFRAID..GOT OFF BUS SO DID HE, HE WAS TALKING TO ME AND I SAID LATER A FEW TIMES,,THANK GOOD HE LEFT,,THIS SHOULD OF NEVER HAPPENED ,,
Had to wait 6 hours for the doctors to tell me there was nothing they could do for my main issue. Then gave me a prescription that could kill me even though I told them multiple times I was allergic to penicillin. Absolutely awful experience.
I am pregnant in the last week of pregnancy . I felt some pain and went to the pregnant section on the eighth floor. I was surprised by his nurse and the doctor was disrespectful, I think his name is Dr. Fadi Tell me to go to the doctor's hospital an 1 hour away from Ottawa! They told me to wait here and sit in the chair for 3 hours until the pain increased and then I left ???? I do not think there is a humane or caring about the souls at this hospital ????
Waste of time and parking money for nothing. Better be in pain rather wasting time off from work for drs appointments for nothing. Joke
great nurses drs security really busy but they still where compassionate and understanding. better then hospital in London
Today I had the best experience I have ever had in a Hospital. So much so that I HAD to write a review. Everyone I came into contact with was extremely helpful and KIND, I wish I had all of their names to list here! THANK YOU to the staff in the Emergency department, to the staff in Radiology and to the covid screeners at the front entrance - you were all remarkable! The doctor who saw me in Emergency was incredible! Seriously the nicest woman, very kind and very attentive! Honestly, I was blown away by everyone's eagerness to help me and awnser any questions I had. It is so stressful having to go to the hospital, but I can honestly say that because of the way I was treated I was extremely comfortable and calm throughout my entire time here. Thank you to all of you who helped me today!
Easy going
The worst hospitat I had even been to ... The services are pathetic with zero patient care in emergency! Had to wait 8 hrs to see the doctor which is insane. I was already in so much pain and waiting for doctor to see you is the first thing you'd want. This is really inhumane and not right... I even saw a pregnant lady who had to wait 8 hrs too.... Pathetic service inhumane nurses it's better to be at home and search a remedy from internet rather than coming here!
Very good med facility
Never want to be there, but if you do have to, there are lots of people to point you in the right direction once you're in the main entrance. Be aware that during COVID, only emergencies, and visitors who pre-book entry times will get in.
Great nurses, staff and services on the orthopaedic floor (6th fl)
This is by far my favorite hospital. I've had two birth experiences at this hospital and both times I was blessed with caring nurses and doctors. I will forever be grateful for the care I received.
An old building, but fantastic staff. As a teaching hospital, the staff are very thorough, caring, compassionate, friendly and professional.
How does a hospital run out of food for their patients ? If there's a planned maintenance in the kitchen , there should be something in place to make sure that ALL the patients are properly fed . On October 27th , patients from the 4th floor up weren't properly fed . Given vending machine muffins & sandwiches for meals . There are many people with special diets that didn't have their needs met . With everything going on , things like this should NEVER happen !!! What bothers me the most are the families that have no idea that this has happened to their loved ones & worried for those that don't have families to check up on them. If you have family in the General , PLEASE check up on them OFTEN !!!
My son was born 3 months early. The care he recieved at the general hospital NICU was top notch, the staff there are amazing and took such good care of my little boy. They also made sure I was okay and had a social worker on hand in case I needed help. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would. My son is happy, healthy and thriving now, I am so thankful for the care we received.
Great care great staff great hospital
The nursing and medical staff are very nice. Though, the birthing unit had a racist receptionist who explicitly denied the ministry of health and service ontario policy to grant our newborn her rightful health coverage because the parents are not Canadian. The racist white receptionist started screaming "She (the baby girl) is not Canadian, None of you are. This is a privilege for Canadians only, why do you even need it , oh I know you just want the citizenship ...etc" just another racist assumption to expose her deplorable motivation. Her lying and misuse of her authority endangering the health of a -Canadian- newborn was just disgusting enough to ruin the special day of welcoming our baby daughter.
Worst ER and the staff are rude and have no sense of compassion. I brought a friend in, he was having hard time breathing. And numbness in his head and limbs, they didn’t seem to be phased by his distress. He was asked to put on a mask but he wasn’t able to breath! One of the triage nursed yelled at him. So I confronted her and she told “Not to get her started”. A couple of patients in the ER noticed how much he was not able to breath and was asking the triage nurses for help. The second triage nurse rudely said “I know what he doing”.... I was livid! I said if if something happens to him you’re to be blamed and they called security on me!
Best hospital in Ontario
My father is currently at this hospital and yesterday afternoon his phone was stolen from his PRIVATE room as he was sleeping. He called me that morning, and the same afternoon his phone has mysteriously disappeared. Do you think any of the nurses knew where it went or who was in and out of his room! Why that would be too convenient now wouldn't it. I'm disgusted this happened in a place where people are supposed to be healing.
This hospital KILLED my Father. After the paramedics bungled the diagnosis and had both my parents begging them to send him to the Heart Institute (of which he was a patient), they didn't listen and took him to the General campus. At the General they were made aware that he was ALLERGIC to Fentanyl and Dilaudid. It was on his bracelet, his chart and I verbally told 2 people (I have witnesses). Within 23 hours he was gone because they kept pumping him up with Dilaudid. They lied to us, and then tried to cover it up. When something goes wrong the only thing they care about is trying to cover each others butts to avoid lawsuits. I fail to understand how they failed to understand. They are a bunch of stupid ill-trained and uncaring people who are more interested in sleeping during their shifts, ignoring their patients, and taking their breaks. DON'T GO THERE. You are taking a huge chance with your health and your life.
Nice and clean
Awful. One of many low points was waking up to a nurse sticking a needle in my arm for blood without even waking me up first.
ER wait time for renal colic is around 14 hours...after that seen by young resident doctors with a lot a mabeys! No CT service at night...incopmerent receptionts. Rude nurses and unexperienced docotors...to summarize it is a nightmare...personal view and own experience...
There was no picture and i didn't see a building
The receptionist at the Critical Care Unit was very rude and racist, and gave us a hard time.

Very thankful to all the staff, nurses, and doctors who took care of my mother before, during, and after her surgery. A caring, competent, dedicated team of professionals.
Service at this hospital has always been excellent. I've been coming here since I moved to Ottawa four years ago which has included regular care, surgery and emergency stuff. The staff are wonderful and wait times are much shorter than other provinces (I'm looking at you Manitoba).
ive bin to this hospital repeatedly every month for the last 4 months and every doctor ive seen here have all bin absolutely incompetent to extreme levels. Your more likely to die here than you are to geting the medical help you truly need.
Very pleasant experience. Staff is friendly, professional and caring.
Absolutely scarring the way hospital staff handled and treated sick and disabled people in the middle of a pandemic. I was preffered there by 3 different clinics as I dont have a family doctor, and they referred me away like a hot potatoe to a service, that has been closed for months due to covid and no schedule of reopening and I'm told to go BACK to that (not even a doctor would see me a snotty student!) ER. Utterly disgusting it took almost 24hrs to get in in the first place and now after leaving empty handed I'm ordered back? Which closed area will they send me next instead of doing their jobs I wonder. I do not have a family doctor as I moved here from AB, have had worse service here than any other city in the country I've lived in.
Great experience my wife delivered our second baby boy there on 17th December 2019, the service the staff are amazing. I booked a private room after my wife gave a birth she stayed 2 days were a five star service. Special thanks to the all nurses. ❤️
You people should feel ashamed! 890 dollars for an emergency visit, and another 121 dollars for a few minutes with a doctor just to find out what medication he had to take. This is not my case, but my boufriend’s case who was visiting Canada, and he never thought having such an experience. Was it because he is someone who’s not from Canada. It all sounds very descriminating if not very odd. Canada, stop robbing and start giving a better experience in the hospitals, I think at this cost it’s better to die than going to a hospital in Canada. I’m someone myself who suffers of infections easily, Canada will be a country I’ll never visit for this one reason. Or they change their costs (which are absurd) or many more people will stop coming, especially the people who can get sick whilst there. Please, change the situation one day.
Very unprofessional, employees were argumentative and combative with a family member.
We received excellent care for our new daughter at the neonatal ICU. Without exception, nurses and doctors were extremely helpful and understanding. We were also able to benefit by staying at the low cost apartment building on the hospital grounds for a week while our daughter was being treated. I would give six stars if possible!
Great service and generally good staff for the most part. Getting in is a lot quicker than it used to be and you can tell they always try to improve. My only beef is with the parking and how expensive it is especially for those who are on a fixed income, pension, retired or on social assistance. I respect what they do day in and day out. Saving people's lives is no easy task. All the best everyone and I hope all the sick get cured. My
i have been seen in the neurology department i have had my license suspended i went for a bunch of tests to find out that he wont write to the ministry of transportation due to me having some mental issues with depression that has been cleared by that department , he stated that i could kill someone cause of it. im sorry i never knew that he could say those things??
This isn't the forum in which people should be filing complaints against medical practitioners. There is no medical board of authority that is going to be reading Google reviews. The staff in the mat ward are awesome and are taking such good care of my wife. The elevators are semi-broken trash. Don't try to stop the doors from closing with your arm or it may leave you an amputee. The silver lining to this hypothetical situation is that you're already at the hospital anyways.
It's been 8 years that my mom been on dialysis And yes! It's not easy for someone her like going for treatment 2,3 days a week. And last year she got her kidney back. Now she's Grateful, happy... I love my Mom so much.
Nurses and Most of the Doctors on 5W. Are amazing. Only 1 Doctor that we have encountered there seems to have the (GOD COMPLEX). but having said that she is still an amazing doctor just not the greatest with bedside manners. Care and compassion is outstanding. Great team and great hospital.
Staff is friendly and helpful as always!
I've been to the general a number of times. The nurses, doctors and support staff were all friendly and professional. I was never disappointed in the level care that was provided to me.
Horrible waiting time. If you have appointment you will never be seen at that time. In cancer clinic you have to wait at least two hour to see doctor. People with cancer should not be treated better.
Doctors, nurses are so kind Best hospital in Canada
I am a survival of war and torture from a country that have a civil war for 18 year. I grow up like child war in the medley of the chaotic War. I Come to the General hospital because I have PTSD got a letter saying that I was torture in jail back home and I have ptsd and I have suicide tendency to present at the hospital so they will understan My case by reading this letter. They send me to a emergency psychiatric department, they came and get me and put me inside a room that have lot room that looks like jail and whit locked in the door that only work outside so you go in you trap. I soon as I see them " FLASH BACK they look exactly like the one the Army used to torture people, I hear horrible scream coming out of those rooms went the cop used to take the hand nail and toe nail of people or finger, hand and heads and the nurse want to go in there. I got so scare I Olmos pass out, Went I star screaming the nurse got so mad open the door that lock went you go in very mean and tell me to live the hospital, but no by my self she call security to scorted out and they were very mean trading me like criminals that as break the law. Went my only crime was be a patient with PTSD that got scare from those rooms that looks like jail and give me flash back. So were is the love care of this people are not nurses are supposed to be caring and sensible? Well lucky a lady that work there or maybe work in a different department went after the security and ask me if I want to see a doctor? I toll her that I was looking for the emergency department, bud the two security didn't want me to go no were just out the hospital door. Well thanks to the creator this lady took me there and everything change, people there are beautiful, kind, Omg lovely staff so different thar the others department, they toll the security to leave alone bcs they were chasing me to throw me out. I love everybody at the ER thank you for saving my life. If the other nurse got it her way and the security will throw me out. I WAS GOING TO KILL MY SELF AND MAKE A LETTER BLAMING THE PSYCHIATRIC DEPARTMENT FOR THE HORRIBLE WAY THEY TREAT PEOPLE. This is just one department, the rest of the hospital have a beautiful person working there. THANK YOU AGAIN.
(Translated) There is free parking for 2 hours on the street. The service is very good. The wait can sometimes be a bit long, but the staff are so courteous, kind and welcoming ... that you can't complain???? (Original) Il y a du stationnement gratuit pour 2h dans la rue. Le service est très bon. L'attente peut parfois être un peu long, mais le personnel est tellement courtois, gentil et accueillant...qu'on ne peut pas se plaindre????
You guys saved my mom's life.. I will be forever grateful for you all. ???? Thank you.
I was born here and I thank you
Nathalie who was at reception in Module O was incredibly rude - super mean! She tried to explain that she has 4 clinics to deal with and I responded all the more reason to be friendly to the patients coming to your desk
My sincere and heart felt thanks to the Surgical Staff and Nursing Team of the Critical Care Unit of The Ottawa Hospital. Without exception, everyone took very good care of me and made sure my wife was also informed of my progress. Heart felt thank you to Dr. Mahoney, Dr. Miller, Dr. Lee, the other doctors and to nurses Chantal, Laura, Melodie (Lisa for helping my wife) and so...so many others! My apologies that I don't remember your names. You are amazing angels! Thank You from the bottom of my heart!
Went with sprained ankle, waited all day had ExRay sent home and back to work next day with crutches, two weeks later still swelled and still working same. No time to rest, bad doctor, bad wait times.
My father had to have a complicated and sensitive procedure done here and the doctor who treated him was off the charts good. Personable, warm and highly competent. Thank you, Dr. Anderson.
Barely anyone in emerg and somehow the wait is extremely long. We are also in a pandemic and there is only 1 dr in emerg Urgent care staff don't care how long you wait. Not one person checked on me while I waited 2 hours in a closet sized room. When they wanted to move me to another room I asked them if someone was going to see me and they immediately asked me why I was being rude rather than answering my question which was not rude considering I waited several hours.
Excellent facility, brimming with professionals and professionalism. Handled my urgent care needs with respect, due diligence and empathy earlier this week. Let this be a Scared Straight to all my brothers and sisters recovering from back injuries: don't let overconfidence land you all back up in the ER. Maybe pay extra for grocery delivery if you can manage the funds. Peace, and thanks again, to staff and security at the General.
So slow, the waiting time can even exceed 8 hours, so amazing for such a big hospital! They don't know anything about emergency. If I had grown up in Ottawa and went to this hospital for consultations, I assure you that I would have changed my career choices, so much so that I was exasperated. It's like there are not enough doctors, it's so disappointing, it's so lame I would say.
Would give zero stars if I could. My friend Mandy is stuck on the sixth floor in terrible pain and the doctors are not treating her. Her foot and leg are trapped in a terrible spasm and have been for a week. They have no treatment plan and refuse to transfer her to another hospital that can help. They are too proud to admit that they're fools. I'm disgusted by their lack of action and terrified that it could be me or my family in her shoes at some future time. I will never willingly set foot in this hospital.
I was born here !
I had an excellent recovery at Ottawa General Hospital. All of the nurses and doctors were very helpful
Was there a few days ago for a consultation about a concussion I got a year ago. Took several months to be seen but I was expecting it to take some time. The woman that did the initial assessment was very friendly, with a good attitude and very patient. When I saw the doctor after they consulted each other, it went well and she explained things clearly and had a few options for me. Just wish my doctor would have been quicker at sending the referral but I'm still glad I was eventually seen. Very professional. Parking isn't free but there is lots of spaces.
I came to the hospital at 11:30pm and now it's 7:50 am and still here
Pretty average for a hospital in Ontario or Quebec. 3 hour wait time overnight. Soda machine double charged me. Accepted my Quebec RAMQ card without needing private insurance (In Alberta, I had to pay upfront and spend months to get partial reimbursement between RAMQ and Manulife).
I don't know I got lucky and had all the best staff or if all their staff is that positive but just wow. Needed some stiches and an x-ray and the people there were lovely. Especially the nurse, she was an absolute gem of a human being. Unlike other hospitals, the waiting at TOH wasn't unbearable and the hours flew by.
Great place, doctors and staff but someone teach them how to regulate the freakin temprature!!!
Redicluess waiting time. My wife Had a C section there. They relised her with an infection. The doctor didn't come to check on her before releasing her but a student did. Couple days later we went to the emergency after her infection got worth. My wife was screaming in the waiting room for hours and no one had feelings or spence to give her pain killer until after hours. She was crying tears for hours before the doctor had a minute to inspect her infection. #taxpayer #waste of money #waste of Time
They don't take mental health seriously. They will lose someone else to suicide if they don't start taking mental health seriously!!!!! (Not for me, reviewing for a family member). Please for the love of god do your jobs!!!!
I've been a patient of the Pain Clinic for nearly 10 years, and they are a world class team at a equally impressive facility - special thanks to Dr. Evans, Louis, and Asmina. Everyone is professional, friendly, and truly caring. I had one experience in an American hospital while traveling, and the difference was startling. We're very lucky to have such an excellent hospital here in town.
I share this info as the widow of a throat cancer patient. Although the cancer diagnosis was alarming, we were treated with kindness, compassion and patience. Oncologists, Speech Pathologists, nurses and Administrative staff are all 'first class'!
patient care and compassion is lacking big time in the emergency department
Love it !!!

I had an excellent recovery at Ottawa General Hospital. All of the nurses and doctors were very helpful and gave me an excellent standard of care. I especially would like to highlight the care that was provided by Dr. Mikhail, Nat, Stephanie, Erlinda, and Mitchell; the professionalism and empathy they provided me with assisted in me having a speedy recovery!
Easy parking and access in and out of the hospital. The volunteers at the hospital are stationed very frequently throughout and make navigation easier for you.
This hospital used to be efficient, but the last few times I had to come to the ER for some concerning health complications, I've had to wait 8 HOURS just in the waiting room, where I 've developed a fever and gotten worst, which is a danger to my life and unacceptable. If I had a choice, I would never come back. The system beeds serious review and reforming.
Terrible emergency services. Stellar ICU services. My Mother was admitted to the ICU a couple of years ago and she received the utmost care at all times and the staff essentially became her friends. They worked in a very professional manner. Emerg staff was starkly different. Wait times here generally range from 6-12 hours+.. Everybody seems to be wandering around aimlessly and there is only one Doctor at night when it's a full house. Not only is this unfair to the patients who have to suffer as a result, it is unfair to the Doctor who has to juggle a dozen or more patients by himself with incompetent nurses under him. My partner who has been here several times with chronic pain was sent home being told he's fine after waiting several hours, not to mention being given 5 different pain killers upon arrival, two of which he was allergic too.. READ THE CHARTS PLEASE! The worst experience however, involved an elderly man that I didn't know, but I had the utmost sympathy for. He was left outside of the X-Ray waiting room in the hallway for a very long time on what appeared to be the verge of death.. Or at least in a very weak and fragile state, all alone without a single nurse to be seen. Absolutely disgraceful, at least give the poor gentleman a private room instead of leaving him in the damned hallway. All in all, I can't generalize. Your hospital has many qualified and professional staff members. Unfortunately, your unprofessional staff tend to take the spotlight away from your hard working employees and need to be disciplined, and preferably re-trained accordingly. Especially your emergency staff. Throw in an extra Doctor for the night shift and take a load off of the one that's already there, and have the patients pass through quicker. That way things can be done more efficiently.
Brought our mom monday night as she was experiencing nausea, headache, and her left leg and arm are getting heavy and weak. She also has a high blood pressure (200/100). They made some tests (blood, ECG, CT scan) they couldn't find anything wrong so they sent my mom home at 3am. In the morning we went back bc her condition got worse. Same thing, they ran some tests and waited for a long time in the waiting room in a wheelchair knowing that she's feeling dizzy and her blood pressure is high. And same they couldn't find anything so they did an xray and again waited for 2-3 hours in the waiting room. Then this neurologist , Vanessa Doyle came and asked what my mom is feeling and seems like she doesn't want to believe her. She also said "it's so hard to be nice", which is not so helpful. While my mom is telling her what she was feeling , this neurologist stopped her saying "you have to listen to me first" which is very rude. The other doctor wanted my mom to be admitted for observation but on the evening there's these 3 female doctors who came and wanted us to go home while my mom's blood pressure was still high and they wanted us to wait for her MRI sched. Good thing we brought our mom to civic hospital carling ave and they took care of her immediately bec she had a stroke and really weak and they saw a tiny blood vessel spasm in her brain. All in all our experience in this hospital was horrible and i don't advice people having an emergency situation going in this place. I'm not generalizing everyone who works here but some of their doctors and staff are really rude and dragging this hospital's reputation to the ground. Instead of feeling the care, it felt like they wanted you gone asap for some reason.
Arrived at Emergency at 9:23pm and it’s now 1:45am to following morning. Still sittting in the waiting room, haven’t seen a doctor yet. In the meanwhile, I’m getting sicker by the minute and my BP is raising. However there’s a nurse in Triage name Kirsten who is kind, caring and compassionate. While the other nurses seem somewhat rude and dismissive, Nurse Kirsten took the time to explain and apologize for the long wait. The Civic Hospital Emergecy need more compassionate nurses like Kirsten because even though it feels like slow death; sitting here waiting for a bed to become available; her emphatic smile and kind words are reassuring.
Evrtime I come here its shity the doctors are sloe and you have to wait like two hours after your set appointment like what type of bs is that like get your shiny together pls or do something
Just spent an unfortunate 4 day stay here but was made easier to get through because of the great staff that the hospital has. Every single person I communicated with were delightful. From the front desk to the janitors. Nothing bad to say....
In the ultrasound unit met Alison and she was so professional and did her work with lots of patience while keeping the patient calm and relaxed at the same time and I would surely recommend her to other pregnant mothers visiting this hospital for the ultrasound scanning!????
Almost died here literally almost died. Whats wrong with this hospital. How dare you make people wait more than 2 hours in ER. Im scared to get sick in ottawa again cause then ill wait that long again and then this time lose all my liquid and dehydrate for sure when all i needed from the start was some fluids. Worried as hell.
They have an emergency center but everyone behind the counter at the emergency center seemed to have learned a lot in university EXCEPT for the definition of the word "emergency" itself. Also, they seemed to not have learned from anyone the definition of the word "care" or "compassion", which is extremely ironic because they're supposed to be doctors and nurses. I came into this hospital, referred from my family doctor's clinic (after waiting there for THREE HOURS), due to heart pain that was SERIOUSLY bothering me. I swear with each passing second I sincerely felt that I was going to have some sort of heart failure. I checked myself with the nurse who is trained to "care about people", and I explained the situation to her. But she seemed very cold blooded and couldn't care less. She reacted to my problem with ZERO care or the "compassion" that nurses should be trained for. Then she had me go to the waiting room, which really is a place where patients are kept to suffer and suffer until the ONE AND ONLY doctor who works his shift the whole night to see me (It might be more, I don't know, but DEFINITELY NOT ENOUGH based on HOW LONG THE PEOPLE WAIT. Yeah, save money, hire the least amount of doctors, and let the people suffer, who cares right? Yeah, we're cattle). So I waited and waited and waited in the place which is supposedly an emergency center, and no one called. I know that there are many others waiting, but the nurses also don't know the definition of the word "priority". And when I went to that same nurse she said I was going to have to wait another 5 hours, even though I already waited 3 hours (in the hospital; ASIDE from the 3 hours I waited at my family doctor's clinic)!!! For crying out loud, my heart is hurting, literally, physically, HELP ME! But my cries fell on DEAF ears. SO, I said "TO HELL WITH THIS" and I just went home UNTREATED! I swear a hospital in Africa or even in a FAILED COUNTRY would know how to treat patients better! A time before that, MY STOMACH WAS HURTING. Not aching, HURTING! So I went to the Ottawa Wait Until You Die Hospital, for, as usual 8 HOURS, ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT, just to see a doctor at the end, who did a quick blood test, but said "there's nothing wrong with your stomach, your blood work came back fine". BUT MY STOMACH IS HURTING! I didn't go to med school, YOU DID, it's YOUR JOB TO FIND OUT WHY. He DIDN'T even prescribe me ANY medication to at least alleviate the pain! So, they sent me home from the hospital which was supposedly supposed to "treat me" with a stomach that was hurting me to death! From those two experiences, I made a VOW to never enter this hospital again no MATTER how much the pain or the urgency. I prefer dying on my bed in dignity than to be treated at this hospital as though I'm a dog going to a veterinarian. HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE!
Excellent emergency department facilities. Got my x-rays in a couple of hours and went home. Came back two days later for my MRI and had an appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon the same week. And multiple follow ups. Honestly amazing care
The Ottawa General Hospital Campus is located on 501 Smyth road. This is a bilingual teaching hospital in association with the University of Ottawa. If your admitted to the hospital you will likely be seen by the teaching physician and some intern students often during the morning rounds. It was fun being the subject of a class and hearing about your particular case. I think the staff, doctors and nurses are ok, but not anywhere near as attentive to patient needs as those in the Civic and the Heart Institute. Each of the two times I have been admitted to the General, I have had negative experiences in my care. So, if I have a choice of going to a hospital I strongly prefer the Civic on Carling Ave.
The worst hospital ever
(Translated) Very good service, professional and concerned staff who were able to respond to my request very quickly. I went to the emergency room and in less than two hours I was able to see a doctor. I would definitely stay there again if needed. (Original) Très bon service, personnel professionnel et concerné qui ont pu répondre à ma demande très rapidement. Je suis allée aux urgences et en moins de deux heures j'ai pu voir un médecin. J'y retournerais sans hésiter en cas de besoin.
Best hospital ever caring and considerate!
This hospital is amazing. There's always parking, unlike some of the other hospitals, and the Cancer Institute is incredible. From the bowtie guys opening doors for you with a smile, to volunteers coming around with cups of water for people, to the radiation techs I've had that are SO friendly and kind! What brings people to the Cancer Institute isn't pretty, but everyone there from the volunteers to the doctors makes having to go every weekday for radiation treatment absolutely painless. ^_______^ On top of that, my next door neighbour is in the General right now, and he won't stop raving about how amazing everyone is there when I go see him after my treatments every day. Both of us couldn't be more impressed with the level of care and kindness and professionalism here. There's no place I'd rather be if I have to be at a hospital or cancer care center! ^_____^ <3
The services provided were awful. There was an interminable wait. There was no way to dimm those stupid lights so no one could sleep. There was also no offer of medication to deal with the pain I was in. All in all I would highly recommend going to montfort hospital instead.
Went to the hospital because for 2 weeks I have had sharp chest pains, sore throat, swollen tonsils and a violent dry cough that's been making me cough up blood. They told me I'd have to wait at least 7 hours to be served, which brought me to tears thinking that my cold can't be that bad if they'd make me wait that long. So now I'm back home still in pain at 1:30 in the morning wishing I could get some help.
Went to the ER and after waiting 7 and a half hours they told me the machine they needed to check me was BROKEN.... BROKEN IN AN ER!!!! What an absolute joke . Healthcare at this hospital is NON EXISTANT now they referred me to the eye institute but sent me home with NOTHING TO TAKE CARE OF MY EYE and forced to wait a month .. if i lose my eyesight u can expect a lawsuit !
I went this morning because I had pain in my back it end up being a kidney infection, I waited around 3 hours and I was able to see a doctor . I was told that is not the greatest of a place for service but to be honest the whole staff was on point. They did their best and they were fast as much as it was possible . In total I was around five and a half hour to 6 hours before I was able to go home, I had to wait for lab results which is an hour and a half is not their fault is just what it is. I had a hospital resident which is a doctor/ student , I don't know what she was amazing her last name was Bartllas , I really like her she was helpful ,she listen, she asked questions , honestly, if I had her as my family doctor I will be absolutely happy, she care about my complaints and she was honestly interested in helping me ,thank you. The doctor in command was dr. Choi absolutely great Dr. Great sense of humor very honest, knowledgeable and he take the time to explain ,what should have happened ,when it needs to happen and what will happen , amazing , honestly amazing , I like when doctors treat you not like a dumb dumb , but with dignity respect and consideration ,he never Overlook the fact that I might be able to understand my situation so he explained it well. He was very dignifying thank you dr. Choi.
Can not fault the service provided by staff at all levels. Genuine compassion and a willingness to go the extra mile when you really need it. A hospital to be proud of.
I have had an excellent experience with this hospital. I used to sing the praises of the Kemptville Hospital which was far for mebut I never realized how good the doctors, nurses and other staff are. The food is so-so and the parking expensive but no reason to diss the facility. I do not think the Hospital should be rated based on the ER. I had 3 visits to ER due to surgery complications. Each involved a 3 hr wait - two visits to the Montfort and Civic - same thing. Triage of patients means priority goes to most serious. Not much you can do but grin and bear it.
The Ottawa Hospital is great. They really take care of emergency with such professional and urgency. During a tough time for me, they were able to calm me down and reduce the cyst. Keep up the great job guys.
The doctors, nurses, and staff were all great! In the end, it is a hospital, but once you get past that, no complaints here.
My family has always been well taken care of here.
Worst hospital ever ! Nurses are extremely shity! And endless waiting time. I am very very disappointed about Canada hospital system. Garbage!
The Hospital is going through an amazing renovation. The staff are excellent and the Doctors are without equal.
Absolutely amazing staff
One of my parents was brought in via ambulance. Triage was well done. (Had to wait in the hallway for a couple of hours, but this is life). Stayed overnight in ER. Kind doctors and nurses. Information flow was good. Steps taken were explained. (Original thought was heart, final diagnosis was gallbladder) Patient was checked in and well cared for. Had to stay for a week, but very nice staff, including nurses, nurses assistants, doctors and even the maintenance workers always had a smile and a hello. Really, really liked the free wifi. Do not know if this is now standard, but it was great to have. Thanks again to all.
The wait is crazy. Like in the 3rd world... this is the capital of Canada.... Oh my gosh.... it was painfully to be there.
The worst hospital I have ever been to. I took my roommate into the emergency room at 10:30 pm due to throwing up blood and we saw the nurse and that was it. Over 5 hours later people are being seen before us who came in after us. Finally when I was done with this I went up and asked and they said they have no more charts in their system. Meaning they lost my friends chart who was throwing up blood and no one seemed to care at all. They were extremely rude about it and told us “to go ahead even though it wasn’t her turn”!! Our turn should’ve been 3 hours ago. Would highly recommended going to another hospital instead of this one.
One of the worst places to go if you have an emergency! The wait time is anywhere between 6 hours to 8 hours and they will spend about 5-10 minutes with you (if you're lucky you may get to see an Actual Doc!!). I have lived in other provinces and I was treated within an hour in emergency, save yourself some time and go to either Cornwall or Renfrew if you wanna beat the lineup here! You would expect better facility with plenty of staff in a capital city of a G8 country, disgrace!
Parking is a big problem at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus. To enter at the gate, you have to wait for a car to pay and get out of the parking garage before you can actually take a ticket and enter. This is unbelievable!!!!!!!!!! Can't you fix the issue so patients can be on time for their scheduled appointment? If ever you have an appt at this hospital, you better get there early. It took me 50 minutes to find a parking space. Fear of being late for an appt causes stress and high blood pressure!!! NOT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE!!! OTTAWA HOSPITAL... PLEASE FIX THE PARKING ISSUE ASAP.
I very rarely go to the hospital, but compared to the other two I've went to (Montfort & Hull), the service was incredible. Everyone was friendly and considerate, and I got seen in a fraction of the time that I would anywhere else. Thank you all very much :)
Worst hospital ever, i waited 6 hours the day before my midterm thinking i would be there for only 3 hours like the nurse originally said it’s now 5am, a ton of nurses just waiting around not one person came into my room.
...I have been around (56yrs old)...a few hospitals in between...State side ...Canada... I do not believe you could find a better crew of "Caregivers" than at the "General". I had a kidney removed in Jan...from the time I walked into that Hospital to the moment they wheeled me outta there...I was treated with the "Highest Dignity and Genuine Heart-felt Care" . I can't make a recommendation high enough to convey my Gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses ,Techs and Staff there. ...enough said...
The most frightening experience of my life. I went in with a migrane. I had never experienced on before. Half of my body was numb, and by the time my partner got me to the emergency room, I was in so much pain I couldn't even remember my own phone number. The nurses kept asking my what I'd taken, and when I told them over, and over again that I hadn't taken so much as a Tylenol, they only said that I must have taken SOMETHING, because I was having a drug reaction. It took almost five hours for a doctor to examine me -I was barely concious for most of this, so my partner had to tell me later, but apparently he had to go out into he hall multiple times to ask for help, because I just kept getting worse, saying that I wanted to go home, and trying to leave. I woke up woozy at about two am, feeling better, but still extremely disoriented. They told me they were going to release me, but my shirt, my purse, and my partner were all missing. I'm convinced that the fact that I was naked from the waist up was the only thing that convinced them to let me stay in my bed and sleep until my partner came back. I asked them if they'd figured out what was wrong with me, but all I got was a shrug, and the drug reaction line again. Never go here!! EVER!!! If my partner hadn't been there with me the whole time, I'm convinced that I would have been allowed to wander into the street and get hit by a car! I've never felt so frightened and dehumanized in my entire life. At the end of the whole ordeal, a bloody GOOGLE SEARCH of my symptoms was 1000 times more enlightening than my twelve hours at the hospital.
My friend got a deep cut in hand and bleeding, we came here in emergency but there is nobody to help in emergency, they told us to wait????????, my friend’s hand was hurting and they still told us to wait. We don’t like their service. Its too slow. They don’t know what is an emergency. We have to do registration. They don’t care even if patient will dead. Ottawa is a capital city but I can compare it with a small town of India there even a child know about emergency. They need to improve. We are waiting from 3 hours and still waiting. ???????????? I am giving them no stars because there is no good service, i suggest not to go to general hospital ottawa. Thanks
We are very lucky to have such a great facility in our city. World class care with amazing and compassionate staff.
My dad stayed at the gh he had cancer the nurses were all great and THE DRS
Coming up on 8 hours in the waiting room with no end of sight there was 12 people in the waiting room now 9, One guy had a broken leg and was here an hour before me. This place needs a better system
The worst patient intake clerks at the General. They were very cold, insensitive and careless. I heard the Civic is better. Hopefully I don't end up in the ER again, but if I do I am going to the Civic
I just want to take the time to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the General. Far too often we take for granted good service. We recently had an emergency case and the staff took such great care of my husband. The team of physicians and nurses have had the best attitude and service. I appreciate it and it was a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much
All Drs. are exceptionally very knowledgeable and polite to deal with. Most nurses are very caring but there are some to whom pay check is the the main goal. But then these are few.
They don't care if you live or die. Don't bother going to emergency after hours you'll wait longer than it would take to just go see another regular doctor the next morning.
Excellent hospital! Christel, a nurse in the nephrology unit was excellent and very patient with all of our questions. She took the time to explain, in detail, all of what was going on with our family member. She was a blessing to us and helped calm our anxiety.
Hospitals are stressful places for patients at the best of times, but today with government cutbacks even more so. I've found the General Campus to be full of the most helpful caring people I have ever met. Even at the bus stop, if you look uncertain about where you are, a staff member will instantly come to your aid to help you to get to where you need to be. I've spent 3 stressful weeks in outpatient visits, and have 100% praise for everyone I've met there.
I've been waiting for 4 hours but the doctor isn't here to check me. My back is in pain!!!!!.... where are the doctors?
Worst service ever. I was left in the waiting room for hours, screaming from the pain I was in and on top of that the nurses thought I was just over exaggerating. I wouldn’t be going to the ER if it weren’t an EMERGENCY! At one point, I felt faint and fell to the ground because I couldn’t stand the pain, and all the nurse said was “who took you off the chair, there’s no reason for you to do that”. Overall, it took 7 hours of excruciating pain until I got to see the doctor.
Maternity ultra sound departement reception are snubb lack.people skill They dont take responsability for there own mistake worst experience service wise
They literally saved my life... Need I say more?
This place is an example of everything that is wrong with Canada's health care.
Health care in Canada is terrible and needs to be a priority election issue! Super long wait times and doctors who don't care about helping patients only wanting that fat paycheck! I have waited here for hours only to have a doctor lazily consult for 10 min and not help me much in the end
Currently waiting in my waiting room for a doctor. I bled twice and not a single time did they ever try to give me any sort of care they simply told me to wait. I have been here for 6 hours and I bled once in the waiting room and now once after admission. Do not go to this hospital no matter what find another hospital even if it’s farther away you’ll at least get the care you need. If you seriously have a medical need DO NOT COME HERE.
The nurses are the ABSOLUTE BEST. This is the ONLY REASON FOR THE RATING. The oncologists are ignorant, arrogant and close minded. When my hubby died because the oncologist gave him a toxic dose of chemo, I called to cancel the appointment for the following day. When I was asked by the oncologists assistant why, and I told her he was dead, she called me a liar and asked how I knew that, and I told her I was holding his hand and monitoring his pulse. She told me that ohip would be charged because I had not given sufficient notice, and if they didn't pay, I would have to. I told her to f off and called OHIP to make sure they weren't paid.
Staff nurses( rn&rpn) extremely rude. Be treated as if we're stupid. I wouldn't even send my dog there to be treated. Go in for emergency heard the excuse from the plastic surgeons saying we don't touch other doctors work and to go call your physician, after waiting 14 hours. We went home get a call 3 days later forcing us to go back in for an appointment and then to go wait for results in emergency. Mother was in extrem pain we said we were leaving and nurse get pissy and told us we won't get are results then.
I had to wait for more than 2 hours to see a doctor but the doctors and nurces were awesome and knowlegeable
The health records clerk was wonderful. Unfortunately an employee from the emergency dept came in while I was there. He was looking for paperclips, he was drenched in cologne. Being allergic to scents, caused me to start choking. I dread if I'd have to go to the emergency dept for medical reasons. I wouldn't be able to breathe!
Bring a sweater in the summer - they run the AC on full blast, everywhere!
My sister is there as I write this. She had a mastectomy almost two years ago. Today the Cancer Clonic sent her to the ER because they were worried that she has cellulitis and a blood clot. It is now almost 8 hrs since she got there. She can not walk because she does not have her wheel chair or walker. Waited over 45 minutes for help to go to the washroom. They now have put her alone in the hall in a big chair and left her. She needs her regular medication and no one even comes around to see how she is doing. No compassion or sympathy at all. Impossible to reach someone for help.
The hospital is dirty. There is never parking and the elevators are useless. Treatment I received was good but I just dislike how dirty that hospital is. They could use a new building.
Came here with an emergency at 3:00 am . Amazing staff, great service! Thank you all so much!
My daughter is medically fragile and is prone to aspirated pneumonia. The care my daughter Jessie receives from ICU-Emerg-AMA is beyond exceptional. The General Hospital staff is the best trained team in Ontario. No institution is perfect, but for my family they are. Thank you to all the nurses (you know who you are!) 5th floor and AMA. Life savers!
I am very grateful . They are really helpful
I came in by ambulance, went to the ER, and was treated unbelievably well. I had to stay 2 days in the hospital, had a procedure done . All the Doctor's, nurse's and the support staff were great. No complaints whatsoever, best I've ever been treated.
The General is a fantastic hospital to have your birth in. Some of the furniture items need to be upgraded badly - the "dad" chairs with tears in them are not sanitary, the bed in the delivery room was broken and uncomfortable and the bed in the mother baby unit sounded like a freight train when you adjusted it to sit up- waking the baby! But I received nothing but first class care from every single doctor and nurse except one. Ladies: if you find youriself in the delivery room with a middle aged nurse, blonde hair named Lori - get a new nurse right away! She started off sweet as pie, but during labour she became a control freak, ignored our wishes, was condescending and lacked compassion. She was easily angered and frustrated. The doctor had to repeatedly tell her to stand down and you could tell that all the hospital staff found her antics ridiculous. This woman ruined my birth experience. But everyone one else was lovely. I felt so cared for and in such good hands. The after care nurses were spectacular. And Jocelyn in L+D, you're the best!
My mother was admitted to the emerg at 11 p.m. We are still waiting to see a doctor at 9:30 a.m. As far as I know, there have been no major incidents that might explain the wait. To anyone who is considering coming to this emerg with serious health needs that arrive outside of business hours, this is probably not the right place for you.
I hate my MS appointments but it is always worth it. Dr Freeman is a real pro.
1967 RIVERSIDE DR, IS THE CORRECT ADDRESS.
Exceptional staff. Made me feel comfortable and gave me breakfast. Quick timing. Respectful privacy, clean and proper PPE. Would of gave a 5, however my chest pressure has become more painful since I left. So many tests were done, yet nothing explained why my heart was rapid, or why I've become so short out of breath. Lots of suggestions for symptoms and ideas leading into what's causing it but no solution or real answers. Sadly this was my second time seeking urgent help. The first hospital was less then helpful, rude and disregarding patients privacy at Queensway. I was hoping to get some comfort. Not having a doctor and waiting on a clinic does not help either. My pressure in my chest is so unbearable. It is effecting me with the simplest day to day routines. Seeing as it got worse when I left Queensway. Jaw pain is becoming more uncomfortable, along with muscle weakness and heat behind arms, left arm pain, after leaving the General today, which i was debating even going to in the first place, because of the bad experience at Queensway. Would have been nice feeling like i didn't waste time with both visits, unfortunately thats not the case. My biggest fear is I just may have a heart attack or stroke if things become worse while waiting on results from clinic. Along with a cardiologist appointment request from Queensway.
Did not take my chest pain seriously put me in the least urgent triage level and the ER was freezing
I was hospitalized and operated 2 years ago and i am fully satisfied about the kind and professional treatment!!
Great nurses docs r kinda rude
THE PLACE for Medical Research and Competent, Compassionate Care from Doctors and Nurses from a grateful patient.
Ridiculous wait times in the ER. There can be two people waiting and you are guaranteed to wait 6 hours unless you are gushing blood from a gunshot wound. Make you go through trainees before you can even talk to a doctor. After waiting 4 hours they came back and said my tests would be ready in a few minutes. 2 hours later nothing. I ask if they can phone me or email me the results and they say no. I tell them I'm leaving and they try to get me to sign a waiver saying they are not responsible for telling me my results. I refuse to sign...next day they don't call me but my emergency contact who then tells me to call the hospital. FINALLY they tell me the results. When I was visiting my girlfriend with a collapsed lung same deal. Of course Cafeteria is not open on weekends however they leave every single light and TV on. The head surgeon was stuck up and rude basically giving the impression to my girlfriend and family that they were wasting her time. Had the audacity to snap back at my girlfriend didn't have a surgery even though they cut her open and inserted a tube in to her. In what would does this not qualify as a surgery? Extreme mismanagement and inefficiency. On the plus side one of the nurses with a name similar to Sheldon was very helpful.
Had surgery last week with Dr. Fady Balaa. The surgery went great, but the incredible nurse I had in post-op is what inspired me to write this review. Her name was Aimee, she is the most kind and caring nurse and she made my otherwise scary experience as wonderful as it could be.
Meh. Not the best but not the worst either. A lot of hurry up and wait to be seen. The ER is painfully slow. The day surgery unit and pacu nurses were wonderful though. I will be here sometime in 2022 for yet another surgery so hopefully things will go well.
Nurses, students and doctors are great and helpful as usual. My first concern is the very long long time to see the doctor. The second thing is to have a clean place, a lot of dirty spots on the ground are stuck and even the cleaning machine cannot remove them out..the frame and the base of tables must have more hand cleaning. The smell is so bad in the plaster room 1a. I think cleanliness is part of the medical treatment that helps patients to be recovered faster. Wishing to see all our hospitals super clean. Thanks.
The worst hospital ever they killed my mom
During the night over the weekend, I experienced dizziness and woke up with the same symptoms. Because I have a heart condition, I felt that I should go to the emergency room. On the Sunday morning, I arrived at the Civic campus and spent about five hours there. I received excellent treatment from everyone. During my time there, I got an ECG, blood work, and a CAT scan. Plus I met with a doctor twice. The next day, I received a follow-up call and a request for me to return the following day for an ultrasound and a meeting with a doctor who specializes in strokes. I returned today for the test and met with the Dr. Stotts, who was most helpful and gave me all the time and attention I needed. All around, terrific service. Because I have a transplanted heart and a number of other medical issues, I'm a frequent user of The Ottawa Hospital. I always feel as if I get royal treatment.
very bad exp. with them they have refused to help me there many times, and will lie to the Mistery and tell them that your suspect drug and acholce .... i suggest when speaking with them tell them nothing i am currently sueing the ottawa general hospital as cuz of them i lost a house a car and my job for something i didnt do
I came here with an erratic pulse, racing heartbeat and tight chest and the fluffed it off and made me wait 14 hours. This place is pathetic.
The two people I talked to were short when asked a question almost to the point of rudeness. Both were in the cancer center. These people need an attitude adjustment we have enough to deal with without having to deal with bad attitudes.
The Doctor was great, very compassionate and I didn't feel like I was rushed asking him questions in the emergency. The wait time was reasonable I was in and out in 2 hours and that was with blood tests. It was a good experience other than the fact I was there!
(Translated) I'm calling for an emergency on the phone and the only thing I am told is ...... We can't do anything for you and even before I finish my sentence they hang up on me. Pathetic, nowadays to be looked after you have to look like an animal, even an animal is better taken care of than us. NO! NUL!
My stay was very pleasant and was fast compare to Quebec hospitals. I was there for a bad food poisoning and was done within 6 hours. I came in at 7pm and was with a doctor around 9pm. Very fast and very kind staff.
I'm very grateful to the staff that work there, especially Dr. K. Chen. She was very kind and welcomed me with open arms. She has a good heart. From the bottom of my heart I hope everything is well for all staff. Good job, guys. Thank you.
(Translated) Do not come with your patient at night to emergencies, it's the worst thing you can do! Seriously a big hospital like that and only one doctor to supervise all the patients in the emergency room at night is unpleasant! (Original) Venez pas avec votre malade la nuit aux urgences, c’est la pire des choses que vous pouvez faire! Sérieusement un grand hôpital comme ça et un seul médecin pour superviser tous les malades aux urgences la nuit c’est désagréable!
Horrible horrible wait times in Emergency. Staff was kind enough to set the right expectation by telling me that they get down to one doctor at night so after waiting for 4 hours in the waiting area I left unseen by the Doctor as my pain was getting worst and worst by sitting on those chairs. I wanna know what does Emergency means to them? If a patient is well enough to survive why would they bother coming in emergency and not just go to the clinic. I was in immense pain that evening and thought I wouldn't survive until the next day to go to my Doctor so I decided to go to the Hospital but they didn't care about the patients what so ever. I went to the front desk couple if times as my pain was getting worst but they didn't bother to check my condition until I decided to leave and they didn't have any problems in taking my name out of the list and let me leave even though it was pretty obvious that I was in such a terrible condition.
I went to the ER yesterday around 10:30 am. I was experiencing pain from what I now know was kidney stones. I waited around 30 minutes in the waiting room after registering and was brought back to the urgent care department, blood was taken and I was given a room. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable and the nurses were all very lovely and made sure I knew that if my symptoms worsened they were there to help. I waited around an hour to see the doctor, who was very kind and straightforward. I was then sent for a CT scan which took all of 5 minutes. The longest part of the journey was the doctor waiting for the CT results, but as soon as he got them he came and shared with me my diagnosis and discharge plan. Overall, my stay from start to finish was less than 5 hours. I am so so thankful for the level of care offered here!
Never thought I'd see a hospital worse than RVH in Barrie, but Ottawa took the cake. 5 hours here and still yet to see anyone There was a homeless man yelling than went to sleep on the floor in emerg and no one (nurse or security) did anything about it. Worst hospital I've ever been to.
Have a question I have a pinched never and need a urgent MRI but Kingston MRI does not do urgent ones was told needed to go to Ottawa's general hospital and sit in the er and talk to a doctor their does anyone know if the will do those their if I was told by my docter's office that this is what I need to do
If you are seeking mental health services I highly recommend the general campus. Everyone of their mental health professionals treats you as human frist. They don't treat you merely as a body of symptoms . The psychiatrists and nurses really looked at the root of my behavior and diagnosed me with such exact accuracy. Aside from the depths of knowledge, their humanity is also limitless .They dealt the less favourable version of me and dealt with me with such grace. The diversity in staff is also a plus. To see so much multiculturalism represented in the staff is to know that you will be understood.I could write a novel about my experience at the general but I won't. They turned the most frightening days of my life into an experience I am forever greatful for. A very special thank you to Dr McCarthy, you are a queen of psychiatry. And all the nurses who served as a voice of reassurance when I needed it most. In the 26 days I called 4North my home I got to be in the care of Ottawa's finest mental health professionals. Thank you to the rings of Saturn and back.
Great care , thanks Dr sayed and the team in Emergency !!! Good job .
The doctors and nurses are extremely caring and make sure the patient receives the correct treatment.
Best doctors, nurses and hospital!
The staff at the psych ward were appalling.
All the staff are very helpful and caring. They have taken good care of me and my family for minor and major emergencies. Thank you for your bravery and devotion especially during this pandemic
Having arrived through emerg with a bowel obstruction, I found myself on the 7th floor in a terrific room with amazing staff. My nurse Valerie was nothing short of amazing, very professional, cheerful and very caring. She made my short stay sucessful stay very pleasant as did my day nurse. Dr Auer's team was decisive with my treatments which was totally sucessful. I have complete confidence in your nurses and doctors. All of you should be very proud. Thankyou Steve Ferguson
The doctor was very kind. Waiting time was very long. Staff was very accommodating. A little cold, air conditioning was strong. Paid parking: should be paid for patients who stay for more than 6 hours. I have been in Ottawa for over 10 years. We can surely see the improvement, but the steps were a little confusing for the emergency. Reception was a little loud, couldn't hear the nurse that well. Would recommend this hospital!
My daughter was a patient in day surgery on 23/4/18. As an RN myself I was concerned about the procedure, her wellbeing and her care. I was pleased by the exceptional care, and I mean exceptional care that she received from the professional, compassionate nurses, multi_ skilled workers, physicians and clerical staff. The care spoke to everything I value in my profession. Thank you and Happy Nurses week to all the nurses involved with her care and to all the support staff who made a difficult day so much easier. To team work!
A total wait time of 11-12 hours. After four hours of waiting yesterday morning, my daughter was finally examined by a doctor. As a result of the examination, the doctor mentioned to her that she needed an X-ray and a CT Scan. As this doctor was completing his sentence, a second, more senior doctor, put one foot in the examination room and told the first doctor that a CT scan and X-rays were not required at this time and that my daughter should be sent home with a bottle of medications. Should the medication not work, then she should return after 4 hours (back at the end of the queue). Well, that’s exactly what happened. She had to returned early evening and had to wait 7 more hours before seeing another doctor who ordered the X-ray and CT scan. When she got to the emergency the second time, the triage nurse told my daughter that she needed to go and get a Bic Mac. Wow - what professionalism! That’s an accurate statement as my wife was with my daughter when the triage nurse said this to her. But that’s ok, right? This is how things usually are in a non-competitive, « free » health care environment - complacency, arrogance and lack of professionalism.
COVID testing line up a breeze Information very helpful with directions The service with Dr Kelly on Module M was VERY EFFICIENT and ON TIME I was very impressed Great job Ottawa General ????
Top professional CARE and staff are friendly
My best friend is late in saying that the treatment his wife received at the general was by Angels , After a misdiagnosis at the Montfort , she died of breast , bone , and lung cancer due to therapy prescribed by Dr. Montgomery at Montfort ! Please listen when told , this is a hospital of Angels , Oncology is tops , nursing is far superior of any !
The Ottawa General Hospital has very helpful volunteers who all assisted me while I was there for Cancer surgery. The Health Professionals were open and honest with me. They treated me like family; very kind and caring Doctors and nurses. I really enjoyed the food at the hospital while I was an inpatient there. The meals were served hot and fresh; loved the food. Thank you to The Ottawa General Hospital. ❤️
inefficient and narrow minded they are nice and friendly but that counts for nothing if they can't actually help you. the two times i have been there, felt like a waste of money. they never ever find what's wrong with you. they are too narrow minded and even after they realize that it not the simply cases, they don't investigate more and the you find yourself in an ambulance like me and find out that your situation progressed even more because it went unattended. my most recent visit, they check acting like it was covid even thought the test and the x rays said it wasn't, take note that i have a long history of respiratory problems, like brooo... covid isn't the only thing that kills. they will not listen, they will just send you home with nothing. complete waste of money that i do not have. if they are seeing this, please go and do a proper training and evaluation of your staff, smiles don't stop the pain. as i am speaking i am looking for another hospital to go, they didn't even test me for any other virus or bacteria and my situation was dyer. i was literally coughing and sneezing blood and i cam to them around 1 am but i got no treatment at all, just unnecessary covid tests. even after they confirmed it wasn't covid, they didn't even try to get to the bottom of things. and this is not the first time so its not a fluke. they are narrow minded and ineffective
Horrible Emergency Service!!! Its almost 4 in the morning & Ive been waiting since 10pm to just glue / stitch up a small cut. This is ridiculous. I recommend anywhere else!!!
Ottawa Hospital doctors advised by governing bodies to inform patients Following my formal complaint about the conduct and actions of anesthesiologist Charapov and surgeon Phan resulting in an adverse event during wrist surgery at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board (HPARB) issued a decision that it was necessary to “advise Ilia Andreevich Charapov, MD, regarding discussing all options of anesthesia with patients and document the same, to ensure informed consent in accordance with the College’s policy” and to “advise Philippe Tran Nhut Phan, MD, on documenting the indications for surgery and clearly communicating these indications, as well as surgical expectations, to the patient as well as clearly reviewing the procedure with the patient post-operatively and ensuring the patient understands the information provided.” That it was necessary for medical governing bodies to take these actions is not reassuring for this or any other patient.
So much for a 1st world country to be told it’s 10hrs wait time !
They have bad nurse and very rude for me. My heart rate is so fast and even very painful. The nurse just told me that I’m just too anxious. I arrived at 8 in the morning and only a few people inside but they told me have to wait for 7hours!
After getting in a bad biking accident, thinking I have a concussion and a broken arm I headed here. I have waited 5.5 hours in the waiting room with a neck brace on, and so far I’ve been in my own room for 2.5-3 hours now. I have not seen a single person in over 7 hours, nor have I received any pain medication or update. The wait time when I came in said 5.5 hours… and it’s been over 7. At this point I don’t even care if my arm is broken I want to leave. This healthcare system needs a serious upgrade.
Your staff need a lot of training in mental health. Especially the nurses in emergent and urgent care. PES isn't any better either. I was there due to being unstable and I was in need of stitches (emergency) Monday night, and had returned late Tuesday night. The first night a nurse who wasn't even working on the unit decided to come in and made disgusting comments about those who struggle with mental health. She said that emergency is no place for us. That there were worse cases and how myself and another injured youth who struggled with MH didn't need to be there. She was loud and clear and i myself apologized to the girl in the next room for what she experienced. Whats the point of breaking the stigma of mental health if the professionals in the health care system has little to no knowledge about it. Or patience. One nurse was understanding and also apologized to me that I had to over hear that. I recently went through something traumatic and I sought out for help expecting them to be more kind if I wasn't formed. That wasnt true either. I waited tonight for 6 hours to talk to a doctor I met before. Without looking at the injuries and without more than a 5 minute chat he sent me home. I'm now on my way to the Queenway carelton and I hope for a better experience. The Ottawa Hospitals need to change the way they work with their patients. I also am studying Social Service Work myself and although I still struggle at times i know the right way to care for someone and make them feel safe. Or find ways to help them feel safe. The Royal needs to add an emergency to their hospital before more young adults try to break the stigma and only get shut down when doing so. If you're ever struggling and feel unsafe the Ottawa Hospital's Is definitely not a place to go... Especially if their staff are verbally expressing that to other nurses and staff in the middle of the unit. Time to upgrade your courses and start removing some of your staff.
Came to the ER twice, first time for a concussion. The doctor order a CT scan to make sure there were not internal bleeding. Luckily there were none. She referral me to a sport medicine after that. The second time I came was yesterday by paramedics for a deep cut in my foot. Only wait it for almost 4 hours. People needs to understand what’s a Emergency room and only come if they need it. I was having lots of pain, so the nurse came with acetaminophen (Tylenol). The doctor knew what he was doing, clean my wound well and did a great job with the stitches. I would give a 5 if he would understand why I ask my mom if she got what he said. I only do that in that kind of situation to make sure I understood.
Why go to a hospital for an EMERGENCY if you're just going to have to wait all night anyways...!?!?!?!?!?! You're honestly better off resting up all night and going to a nurse at a local clinic in the morning. -.-
Long waiting time.
Gave birth to my first son 13 years ago had the best Dr. Best nurses. I still come here for any emergencies the wait times are not long, very professional staff. For any stomach pain Dr. Kelly is the best Dr. ????
My experience was good. The hospital seemed overall well managed. I was referred to a specialist and was seen within a reasonable timeframe. He took care of my issues and made a diagnosis. I try to avoid the ER for issues that can be solved at walk-in clinics or my family doctor’s office. People should seriously stop cramming up the ER with non urgent matters. The nurses looked like they could use a break. Unfortunately the system dictates understaffing and overworking.
This is too much...you don't get doctors, common phrase here is "this is a learning institution".. They care more about the students than your health.
Staff was amazing. 5 out of 5 but never want to go back
Riverside hospital DIALYSIS UNIT Staff does not always fill out incident reports. I just overheard 2 nurses in the hallway to the cafeteria saying that they filled out nursing home forms for patients they never met and did not know because the hospital was busy. I did not want to interrupt these 2 employees, but did hear them say they worked in the dialysis unit and this had to do with papers for people going to a nursing home. Also personally witnessed one of the aides put some paper tape on his arm and then put that on a table, before it was to be used on patients to do their dressings. The aide told me that it was ok to do that. Are you serious now?? this is in no way acceptable.
For rudimentary medical care, poor diagnosticians who often as not get it wrong, abysmal facilities and below average service on par with third world failing states' hospitals you can't beat the General Campus. It's in a class all by itself. God help the unfortunate people of Ottawa most who don't know any better - because the General can't.
Didn't receive any treatment there but while on a school trip to Ottawa my friend I where exposed to food we are allergic to. I started to experience mild symptoms so as a precaution the teachers brought us by Uber to this hospital, not being from this area we didn't know children are not treated there. We walk in to the Er and was told rudely that we had to walk next door to the children's hospital. Umm excuse me? My friend and I could go in to anaphylactic shock at any moment and you want us to walk 10 minutes to the hospital next door at 11;00 pm at night???? Absolutely insane.
Terrible hospital!!! Waited four hours in emergency and left because everyone that showed after me was getting treated first. Terrible services.
Worst place to go. Be prepared to stay all night to be checked by doctor. The medical team don’t care about people life. All they do is go around with files and pretend being busy. Better to go walk-in clinics in the morning than waiting 10 hours to be checked by doctor.
Worst hospital ever, wait time is unreal, nothing gets done, you never get any benefit from your visit, staff don’t care for you, only they walk around and pretend they are busy, and if you ask them when is my turn they tell you , you need to wait longer and if you don’t like it you can leave,.i give this hospital and health system A -10, they don’t deserve a star. Worst experience ever.
I received excellent care from them during the Pandemic. A++ staff
Great staff, clean and not too busy
Had an amazing experience here with wonderful kind doctors who were patient and helpful. Thank you OH.
Very dirty floors. Just have to look along the base boards. In this covid19 pandemic. Is completely unacceptable.
Doctors and nurses are so nice, funny, helpful and caring.
I was on vacation and unfortunately had to go to the emergency room because I was having a fairly concerning allergic reaction. Waited a total of 10 hours to see a doctor. During my triage with the nurse my vitals were taken and then I had to wait. Once in a bed I waited 4 hours before the doctor saw me. Not 1 nurse came to check me or recheck my vitals or see how I was doing. During the wait time I developed a fever, swelling spread and my entire lower leg was hot to touch and extremly painful too touch or move. Was sent home with a cream. No further testing competed. Super concerned about how the hospital delegates it's staff and resources.
this hospital DENIED suicide watch for a patient (underage student) who sincerely told them that she would like to commit. this is so upsetting that this was the response for an UNDERAGE STUDENT in DESPERATE need for help. do not go here.
Wow Amazing staff! Perfect bedside manners, informative and patient! They made an unpleasant experience more comfortable and reassuring!
The nurse at the registration desk is so rude and mean today is 12/08/2019 . Time : 5:15 pm she were so rude to us and she doesn’t have a badge or name on ! she is wearing glasses and speaking aggressively! find the right ppl to hire ! the worst attitude i have ever seen !
Awesome hospital
The staff in the MRI were very good. My disappointment was that I was told to be there no later then 3:20AM. I ensure I was on time I arrived at 3:10AM only to find a note on the door that the MRI was closed from 2:30-3:30 and to sit in waiting room O while was in darkness. Why ask people to arrive before the unit is open and then send them to an unlit waiting area until the unit opened.
If there would be less than 1 star Ottawa hospital deserves it. Worst hospital they don't care weather the patient is in pain or in emergency ward. All they do is roam around and pretend. I was in extreme pain for 5hrs wait in emergency ward and left without seeing doctor. Waste of money
My cousin suffers from severe anxiety and having his teeth attended to has been impossible the last 10 years. In a matter of 15 minutes the dental team was able to convince Dominic D. to let them help. I can’t remember the names of the two ladies that helped Dominic today, but I am so glad to have had a group of health care professionals like that. Full of smiles and extremely patient, the staff waited on my cousin to be comfortable and went to work. We were ready to give up on Dominic’s oral health and now we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. God bless the dental staff at the civic hospital
Really wish there was a rating lower than 1 star. Brought my wife to emergency (where I'm currently writing this and modifying the longer we wait). Waited 6 hours before seeing a doctor for 2 minutes. To then be sent to yet another waiting room to then wait an additional 2 hours. This isn't the first instance of poor treatment from this emergency room either. My father was brought in by ambulance after losing 60lbs and being unable to eat or have a proper bowel movement. But instead of being examined or even helped her was left on a bed in a hallway for almost 3 hours. I am supposed to return to this hospital to have my 3rd knee surgery before the age of 40, but given how little sense of urgency everyone has here I fear that I'll die on the table. Probably a fair over exaggeration, but I'm trying to illustrate a point. Having free health Care is all well and good, but it's entirely worthless if you have people waiting for a minimum of 7 hours (passed the 7 hour mark while writing this, and correcting the language to not be offensive). End result after almost 8 hours, blood tests and a urine sample is nothing. No answers for the pain she was experiencing, but did manage to get offensively asked numerous times if she was pregnant even after having told multiple people her periods ended mere days ago. Will done Ottawa hospital you've been offensive, useless and a total waste of time. Update: My wife was informed that she would be contacted Monday morning about an ultrasound we are now well into the evening and she's heard nothing. Update 2: my wife was contacted Monday afternoon around 3pm having her come back for an ultrasound. We have now been back at the hospital for 2 more hours to sit and wait yet again. This hospital has now proven to me that free health care is good only in theory. Free health care that takes 4 days and nearly 10 hours in an emergency room just isn't worth it.
well wearth the wait time.
I usually have good care at this place, but this time I went in experiencing heart issues, brought in via ambulance and was brought to the nurse station where they check blood pressure and heart rate and she told me to wait a minute. I was called to register before I could have any of these primary exams and the nurse told me to go and she would call me back. After an hour I tried explaining to another nurse that my pressure and rate hadn't been taken yet and told me just to wait. I get it was busy, but I was not prioritized for the most basic thing and have been have heart palpitations/very irregular beats all night. I ended up giving up and going home cause it didn't seem to matter at all...
Doctors and Nurses i say thank-you so much for all your professional help . I have so much respect. for you .
Trying to contact the Module G Tropical Medicine and International Health Clinic at the Ottawa General is impossible. I tried multiple times on different days, it goes straight to voicemail every single time and you can't leave any messages. Unbelievably terrible! Its a wonder how they are still in business!
I spent a total of 16 days in orthopaedics at the Civic after 3 surgeries in the past year and if I need hospital care again....I hope it's at the Civic. The nurses in the Ortho Unit are great! The Orthopaedic Surgeons (Dr.Papp, Dr.Liew and assisting surgeons )who worked on me took time on several occasions to answer all of my questions. Overall, I have nothing negative to say about the Civic Campus, I thought the treatment I received while there was top notch.
Had a wonderful experience here. Nurses and doctors were patient and kind. Hope I don't have to be back but glad its close if I do :)
This hospital is full of incompetent idiots who misdiagnosed my father acute health problem. If you see 5 star ratings without explanations, most likely it's done by hospital staff or people affiliated. Stay clear of this hospital
During a bad asthma attack, which lasted for days, the Ottawa General ER took excellent care of my daughter. They held her there until a bed was free upstairs in a cramped, but wonderful ICU. Every staff member treated her with great care until she was discharged a week later. Bottom line...they triage an enormous amount of people in the ER...but when its a dangerous situation they've got you covered
Long waiting time
Well organized main building and I appreciate everything the doctors did when my dad was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He was taken care of his entire stay and while we are nervous about further medical appointments, I look forward to our inquiries being handled in a professional and kind manner. Thank you.
(Translated) Personal attentive, never been so well taken in hand a big thank you to 2 nurses in particular Jessica w. And agnieszka !! Thanks for being there for me. (Original) Personnels à l'écoute, jamais été aussi bien pris en main un gros merci à 2 infirmières en particulier Jessica w. Et agnieszka!! Merci d'avoir été la pour moi.
I was admitted to The Ottawa Hospital General campus for surgery for a broken ankle (Fibula fracture) in Feb 2020. I was impressed by the kind and professional care that I received during my stay by the Dr's and staff in orthopedics and the nursing staff at administration desk 7East.
If the staff cared any less this place would be a walmart.
Great hospital and nurses to care for patients The hospital is clean and service was very excellent ????????????????????????
It's pretty good
Had Thyroid surgery March 10, my Dr Al-Saffar, as always was wonderful. His whole team treated me with dignity and respect. Recovery room staff was amazing and very sympathetic with my pain and needs. For having gone through a lot of thyroid issues in the past four years, it was comforting to be so well taken care of. And why are they all so good looking?! Shout out to Dr Best and Nathalie. Thank you all!
My friend gave birth there, the disrespect shown by the NICU staff was appalling. Really behind on their practices as well (ie. Didn't even know skin to skin could regulate heart rate, even though that data was released like 40 years ago). I wouldn't even let my cat birth there.
My husband and me want to thank you from the bottom of our heart for the warmth with which you treated me to good health to Doctor Lalani; Nurse Sarah and the others who I don't remember their name in Maternal Fetal Medicine of Ottawa General Hospital in Dec. 28-29/2016. Thank you for your exceptional patience and professionalism you’ve shown during the birth of my daughter. You will always be in our prayers. Anh Vu - Hung Ha
My disapproval is for the scheduling and scheduling alone. When people are very sick they usually wait it out until the pain is unbearable and they have to go to the emergency room, that usually happens at night so why the heck do you think its okay to only have 1 doctor on after midnight? 12 hour wait is INSANE. Get more staff on for emergency hours
I recently went in for a Laparoscopic Hysterectomy procedure with Dr Sinasac. From the moment I checked in, from reception to discharge, I received wonderful, caring and compassionate attention from all staff. In particular Sam a nurse in day surgery. No matter how busy he was he always found time give me that extra care. And to Dr Sinasac who stayed after a long day to ensure my surgery was completed. It is heart warming to have experienced all of these great professionals, we are very lucky to have them.
Not a good experience, the parking and costs are ridiculous. I would sooner go to my family doctor rather go to the emergency. 10 hrs with a fractured rib , no relief gasping for air. Unacceptable.
Came in with covid symptoms, they made me sit in the garage in the freezing cold and wouldn't provide any sort of comfort such as a bed after I told them I had trouble breathing and chills. Ended up going home because I couldn't take the cold anymore. Will be filing a complaint. No human should be treated this way.
Emergency receptionist have a really bad attitude
I have been at this hospital twice now and the staff is so very nice and pleasant to speak with. Going there again on Monday for preop and again on the 21 of February for day surgery.
Had day surgery and could not have received better care. The pre-op appointment went smoothly with compassionate, knowledgeable, and personable nurses and pharmacy technicians. Though they were running behind schedule they communicated delays so I could feel informed during the wait. The surgery experience itself was as great as it could have been. Admission was hassle-free and timely. All nurses I interacted with were kind, professional, and seemed genuinely in tune with my needs. The surgical staff were amazing, as was the anesthesiologist. I can't thank the staff enough for the quality of care I received. Everything from start to finish went off without a hitch and I felt truly cared for.
Best doctors and nurses ever. Saved my life without a doubt.
I was personally admitted at this hospital and the er doctor saved my life. While being transported by ambulance the paramedics could not figure what was going on with me but once at the er the physician quickly understood and sent me to emergency surgery. In by ambulance at 02:00 am and in the operating room at 03:40am. I was told they had to call some staff from home for the surgery but again thanks toh! Compassionate staff.
Do not use their emergency department: it is stuffed by incompetent interns. I was treated like an nuisance although I got there with intense pain, one of the most intense pain known to medicine. Very disappointing. The emergency stuff seemed bored and bothered by our problems. I noticed similar behaviour towards other patients also. This is a significant drop in care quality from the last time I was here, with a similar problem, about 2 or 3 years ago. They simply decided to sent me home with no medication. I had to ask for a prescription. Very, very disappointing.
These guys and girls save lives, they do gods work. One million Thank Yous , from my family to all of you..
Personally not s Hospital I would recommend. Very disorganized, nursing staff sucks. Not to mention when my friend was a patient. I heard them laugh at her diagnostic. Like really “ professional”. I think not. What I did find very interesting. Housekeeping staff was very friendly. Keep an eye on housekeeping. They seem to be a lot more friendly they “NURSES” Odd thing “I’ve hear many patients saying the same thing ???? but yet housekeeping is treated like dirt. Things need to change Dr.Kit. Patients are seeing a big difference.
Make sure you arrive 1hr before, this will allow you sufficient time to find parking, it has to be the worst set-up I have ever seen...... a large parking garage with a height restriction of 6ft 1inch..... all other parking is max 2hrs. That's great if you didn't have a 1hr wait to be seen then another 2hrs to get out.......
Wife was there in emergency from 10:00 until 15:30 only to he told to go home with pain medication. She has Lupus, the ER doctors on staff didn’t follow up with her Lupus Doctors during the day and when it came to making decisions about changing medication they shad no Lupus doctors at the General and that they where all at the Riverside and that no one was on staff at the Riverside they had left for for day. The ER doctors on staff where incompetent, she came in for Lupus treatments because of a flare up, the doctors on staff should have communicated with her familly doctors and formulated an action plan to provide proper treatment. This was not done, instead the on staff ER doctors fumbled around and discharged her with pain medication. When confronted the on staff doctor blamed in on understaffing and lack of resources. I the issue is not understaffing but doctor competence. Not enough doctors? More like not enough intelligent doctors.
Friendly staff and quick service (that might have been caused was bleeding) I had to do regestration while I waited which was had to sign for with a gaping wound on my hand but when I got in they took great care of me and explained everything. But trying to get out of I felt like I was in a maze, one intersection had exit signs pointing down 3 of 4 doors/hallways . Maybe some better signage would help to get back to the emergency room or parking lot
Absolute best care! Currently being discharged and having lots of emotions as I leave my twin preemies behind at the NICU! Not only were staff great with me and my family, the staff in NICU are very special group of people! Their patience and knowledge leave a new mother feeling good about leaving her babies in their care. The staff are never bothered by a parent asking questions, and that is a very good feeling! So glad we chose to come to the general! All NiCU nurses were great during my stay, and in the mother and children unit my nurse Jovanna was amazing!
Had emergency surgery requirements and Dre. Nessim was outstanding so was the whole staff.
They are awesome and I would highly recommend her and all the nurses and teks
My husband had kidney stones, which had become infected. The staff were professional and efficient and at the same time compassionate and caring. "liked" hints that a visit to the hospital is something you would seek out, which is not true however the nurses and doctors made the experience comfortable. Lets not forget the dieticians - they planned meals that were both nutritious and appealing under, probably, a large list of restrictions.
I had a surgery performed in January 2021. Everyone I encountered during the process was professional, kind, and thoughtful. Thank you to all the admin staff, porters, nurses, and doctors who took excellent care of me. I even received two follow up calls to check in on me after I was discharged. I can imagine that working in a hospital during this time is stressful. I am so grateful that I was able to get my surgery despite the pandemic and so grateful for the excellent care. You are all appreciated.
Awesome hospital and the best staff in the whole world
The staff was pleasant while I was in the hospital, but then when I called for follow up appointment, they hung up on me several times. It appears that they couldn't find my information, so I guess they thought that if they hung up on me I wouldn't need to follow up anymore? Finally someone was able to help. But hanging up on me ruined the experience.
Blatantly disrespected, I have never been treated with less compassion by a doctor, especially after having been admitted for a painful infection. As a chronically ill person, I have seen many over the last 5-6 years, this was one of my worst experiences. Never again.
Got diagnosed with cancer and throughout the experience staff, nursss and doctors have been amazing. I’ve learned so much and we should all appreciate what we have in our city. We’re very fortunate.
Mostly Friendly staff but the waste of time I see everytime I come here is unbelieveable. If they worked as much as they stand around and talked to each other the service would be great. Also they say they take people by priority but I have been in here with my daughter in extreme pain on back and stomach and they take people that obviously have next to nothing wrong with them ! One person actually said this cold is killing me and they took him before back and abdominal pains ??? Might be mostly free health care but definitely not the best !!!
I have been to The general campus many times , there is very little tolerance for visible minorities at the emergency and God help you if you happen to be a muslim too, some of the young nurses are so incredibly rude , I've become so accustomed to being sidelined most of the time so I don't even bother fussing over it.. A week a go my son was very sick and I took him there, I met Dr. Rosenberg, incredibly profession , very thorough ... A true Dr. Godbless
Was involved in neurosciences rehab program for 6weeks... The professional staff, Drs., nurses, rehab staff from volunteers to medical professionals, was for me in my situation, the best I could have received. I'm forever grateful in having these people look out for me. Thank you.
The hospital makes the process of signing up for MyChart very difficult. Noone answers the phone at the hospital. Staff are rude when they do answer the phone, for example, I was trying to explain something and they hung up on me. And like others have said, the examination rooms are not clean.
Rude nurses at night. Got ignored when I was in pain trying to find out what was going on. They never know what's going on in the ER. Then wanna look at you funny when you snap cause your in pain and tired.
(Translated) I'm 3 because not all the staff are bad. I had a very bad experience with the lady who registered the patients before the blood test (on day 10). I understand the fact that she is not bilingual (and that does not mean that she should not have this job). What shocked me was the yon with which she addressed me when I let her know that I spoke French. She was bordering on INSOLENT! I understand that she could not move from her post, it is rather the way of addressing people that leaves me speechless. She had the same attitude with one of her colleague who accompanied me and spoke a little French (thank you to her and to the gentleman who went to find her for me). I imagine the miseries of francophones when they come for treatment. customer service courses are really needed.
Sooo The waiting time is a bit long but it’s clearly less than other emergency hospitals. They are very organized (good triage and sense of emergency) friendly and caring. Would recommend !
My wife had a great doctor Dr.Hurley he was very helpful...and the staff was really great too.
To be honest this is the worst hospital ! how come if u r in pain u should wait for damn bed ? and the girl kate at ( the emergency nurse ) is not really kind !
My mother is currently battling cancer and the staff at the general campus have been nothing but supportive and wonderful. Every time we have to go to the civic we request a transfer to the general as the staff, nurses, doctors, volunteers, and even custodial staff are incredible.
The staff at this hospital are so incompetent! I would recommend anyone who was unsure of their diagnosis after visiting the emergency room to definitely go check with their doctor. Here is my story: after about two weeks of nausea, vomiting and terrible stomach issues I decided to go to the emergency room one evening after my symptoms significantly worsened. My issue was not with the wait time in general (although it was approx 5 hours before I even saw a doctor) but with the quality of medical care they offer. After waiting forever to only be transferred from room to room I was finally given a bed. My symptoms were becoming worse and worse but all they could do in the meantime was hook me up to an IV. It was excruciating having to vomit in a bucket they gave me while i rushed to the bathroom every 10 minutes attached to an IV drip. Finally I was able to see a doctor. He spent maybe 3 minutes with me, poked my stomach a couple times and claimed it was "gas". He then prescribed immodium and asked to take a fecal sample before I left. I obliged and left the hospital, unhappy with the diagnosis. After another week of feeling ill I went home to my GP who revealed that I had a terrible case of food poisoning after taking and processing a fecal sample the same day. The food poisoning lasted so long because the hack "doctor" at the Ottawa Hospital couldn't be bothered to spend more than a couple minutes with me and then gave me the AWFUL advice to keep taking Immodium. Immodium and food poisoning is a lethal combination since it traps the bacteria inside you and allows it time to fester. My GP told me if I waited any longer I would likely have ended up in the hospital with a much worse condition and he was appalled that an emergency room doctor would be so careless. My GP gave me a shot of some medicine and after a couple days I felt much better. Fast forward three weeks later and the Ottawa Hospital FINALLY sends me the results of my fecal sample. Surprise, surprise! They found I had three strains of bacteria from food poisoning. Thanks a lot...this info got to me over a month after I gave them the sample. I even got a call from Ottawa Health asking questions about the strains of bacteria. When I called the hospital that day I was furious and all the person on the phone could tell me was "we were busy that evening". Busy or not is no excuse for a doctor to be reckless and careless with a patient and give harmful advice.
Avoid the General hospital for emergency care. Emergency Nurses in triage area have horrible people skills. No respect at all for the sick coming in. Emergency doctor gave wrong advice to us and said they looked it up on the internet! How scary and sad. Go elsewhere for your emergency care. Unfortunately Im back here again. Blood work took close to 1.5 hours serve 13 people. Only 2 people taking blood which is ridiculous. Then went to the xray department, they say take a number but then serve anyone who stands in front of the counter. Only one person working the desk and nothing is organized. This hospital needs to up its game. The specialists are great and their service is quick but everything else is awful.
I went to the emergency room this morning because I was feeling s*icidal and felt unsafe at my house. I waited 5 hours for a doctor to tell me they can't do anything to help me and that I should "pick up a hobby". I specifically said I didn't feel safe going home and was scared I might harm myself and they sent me home anyways. Didn't even give me a prescription for meds. How could you do that to someone? I'm absolutely appalled.
Thank you. Great team . Great service
Checked in at emergency this morning, nurses there don't even smile... stuck up and not caring at all.. bad customer service. I know they have to make it short and fast but atleast SMILE, nurses at the urgent care clinic are zombie'd out as well.
The 8 hour wait wasn't even the bad part. The receptionists/RNs who were working overnight Nov 4-5 showed a complete lack of sympathy towards the waiting patients. Their terrible attitude and inability to genuinely care about patients was completely unacceptable. If you have no patience or general sympathy for others I have no idea what you're doing working in a hospital. A severe anxiety attack should never be called "a tantrum", especially within earshot of the person suffering. The cleaning lady gave more reassurance than they did, and that's not even her job.
I broke three bones in my right ankle while out for a walk on Friday. The ambulance took me to the Ottawa General Hospital. After doing a CT scan, they admitted me that night and did my surgery on Saturday morning. I was discharged on Sunday - they weren't forcing me out quickly, but I was eager to get home. There were some issues, especially with people forgetting to order some of my normal medications, but most people were very sympathetic and nice to me. I couldn't walk or even move on the first day. Even outside of meal times, they gave me food when I needed it, helped me to the bathroom regularly, and were always willing to give me something for pain. They respected my decisions and needs. When physio saw how unstable my balance was on Sunday, but understood that I had to go home to contact work and get some of my medications, they offered home care physio to teach me how to do stairs better. I got a call from them the day I got home and am waiting for them to schedule an appointment for me. Some of my previous experiences in emergency rooms weren't great, and I was terrified when I found out I would have to stay in the hospital for a few days. I was also worried about how COVID could affect my care, and although it did cause some inconveniences, most of the nurses and care staff tried to keep me comfortable. The staff were nicer than I expected.
First of all im 16 the nurses are so rude to me like im running around the place second of all ive benn waiting 10 hours just to see a doctor and when i look in the other rookms its not even that urgent have back problem is not more important then i cant breath well with my back also fhe chairs are straight up not comfterble you should put comfterbale chair beacuse im waiting 10 hours
