REVIEWS OF St. Michael's Hospital IN Ontario

St. Mike's provided me with incredible care when I was suddenly admitted for emergency brain surgery, and 2 weeks post op care. Unbelievably caring and empathetic healthcare teams, and non medical staff. I have, and will always ask to be taken here, if ever in need of emergency healthcare in Toronto.

i was there approximately 5 weeks ago. It was awful. I was left in the hallway for 4 hours waiting to see a doctor. I had an appointment. The doctor never showed up, because the nurses would not check where he was. They kept saying he is in surgery. He was not. We found out later, he was waiting for us to arrive. he never came to see me. Will be there again in a week. I hope things go better.

I missed my MRI appointment because that was at 12:30 AM on February 10th and I know that was my fault but when I called to reschedule my appointment a rude man picked up the phone and that was weird for me because nobody cares that you have a critical disease and missing that appointment is so bad so he made it on June 15, 4 months later. I was so upset and I said if you get died in canada nobody cares and that man told me “ok so go back to your country”.If someone doesn’t like his job it’s better instead of insulting others. No one understands a patient's feelings until he experiences himself

The lack of organization between staff and departments as well as the level of non-compassionate care was something my wife and I will not forget. I've worked in multiple hospitals in Ontario but have never seen it this bad (and this has nothing to do with COVID). My wife was admitted for kidney stones while 5.5 months pregnant. She got admitted directly to the mother-baby unit, which was great but diagnosing her was a nightmare. She was in brutal pain and although a requisition was made on the night she was admitted for an ultrasound the ultrasound wasn't done until more than 24 hours later. We kept asking our nurse and doctor to call the DI department to get an update but they would respond with the standard 'they're just too busy'. In reality, I don't even think they called at all but would just say that to appease us. After letting this play out for a while we went directly to ultrasound and they informed us that the requisition was sent to the wrong site (it was sent to outpatient instead of inpatient). This was another setback and when I asked about having the ultrasound done right now the technician was happy to do it - he said it was a SLOW DAY. You can imagine my level of anger and disappointment at this. When I got back to the unit and related this to the staff they just shrugged their shoulders saying that's what they heard from DI so they went with it. Everyone seems to blame it on the next person and act as if each department / unit is a different organization, not all just St. Mike's. Each time a nurse was called they had one foot pointed at my wife and the another at the door - they wanted to run back out as fast as possible so they could hang out at the nursing station. There was no clear or defined care plan. It was really driven by what we pushed for. If you need to go to this hospital and its a non-life-threatening issue, consider going to another.

It took extremely long 5+ hours and there wasn't much doctor's. I wasted my time there and got no results. I was completely frustrated. Never coming here again. I felt like a joke when I was really worried for my life.

Andrew Legault

They send people without helping them. If you don't find anything but the pain is still there maybe it's a good idea to look again or think of other tests to solve the problem.

Tim Reid

Fell off a roof broke my back it was quit a severe injury. Inches away from being paralyzed but I was so lucky to be sent to st. Michael’s I’m 100% after only 18 months. Thank you and god bless each and every one of you

Area 416

Great staff but sometimes very long wait times :)

One of the best in the city core big hospital that just got a huge renovation good choose in Toronto for many programs and clinics

I am frustrated because the imaging department doesn't answer the phone and I cannot leave a message. As I am not able to go for my CT appointment, I thought it is my responsibility to let them know, so someone else can use the service at that time. But there is no way to do that. I cannot talk with someone, I cannot leave a voice message and I cannot email them. How can I cancel or reschedule?! And the most annoying, unprofessional and unethical behavior is that they make you listen to numerous automated messages, most of which are not relevant or useful to you. They make you push different numbers just to listen to another repetitive message. Even the message asks you to have your OHIP number ready if you want to cancel or reschedule.... I was hoping after listening to all of these tedious automated messages, at least be able to talk with someone or leave a message. But I was not. The last automated message said "Good by"!!!!

I took my friend to ER who had his ankle injured. He was registered at 5 pm. He got attended around 7:30pm, got a few pain killers and then got to do a xray. He had to wait for about 1.5 hrs to get the xray technitian to arrive at xray room and got his xray done at around 9pm. I’m writing this review at about 10:30 pm and as of now he’s still waiting to hear from a doctor about xray results!! More than 5 hrs and we are yet to know what’s wrong with his ankle!!!

David Erwin

I have watched them save lives of the older people I love - more than once. No one wants to be in hospital but everytime I have been in ST. Mike's, I knew I was in the right place.

Jocelyne Lefebvre

St Michael's Hospital save my life I stayed in and out for about 5 years now on the 16th floor I've been amazing

Mohammed Yassin

Even though I had to wait for a while, it was worth it. Abig shout out to everyone who helped me out. I cannot express my gratitude. Keep up the good work!

If you want to die here then go ahead. This is the worst hospital in Canada. The nurses and doctors barely care, and the nurses are extremely rude. My mom came here being positive for coronavirus and difficulty breathing, and they basically left her to mingle with all the patients in the waiting area even though she said she was positive. After a few hours they let her go saying it’s nothing but dehydration. Then she got sick again and we had to take her to Toronto General Hospital (against public health recommendation). She’s diagnosed with pneumonia and they are keeping her for a few days for treatment there. If you want to die or see your loved one die, then go here. If you actually care, then go anywhere else.

My daughter went to St Mike's in the evening of September 18th. She has a severe peanut allergy and is anaphylactic. Her eyes were swollen almost shut, her lips swollen and was having trouble breathing. The nurses were so caught up on COVID that they didn't seem to acknowledge her allergic reaction and thought she had COVID. She was not treated immediately or brought in to handle this life threatening situation. My daughter had to use her own EPI-PEN at the hospital because her throat was closing up. Thankfully, a doctor walked by and treated her right away. I'm not here to knock the hospital but PLEASE PLEASE realize that there are other situations other than COVID.

Terrible place. I have been in hospitals all over the world and this was the worst. I'm really sorry to say that because I am a proud Canadian who had two excellent surgery experiences at Toronto General. I had to tell off a Professor/Doctor at St Mikes who discussed each case with his students at the foot of each bed within earshot of the patient with complete disregard for their feelings ! I told him that was inappropriate and to to go out in the hall. The doctor assigned to my semi-paralyzed dying mother reluctantly agreed to give her a sleeping pill. The next morning I found my mother had been calling out all night in distress with no pill so I yelled at him for reneging on his promise - embarrassing him in front of other doctors. His assistant said she left it off the nurses orders, despite his promise, "Because I know he doesn't like to normally prescribe that medication." My mother died the following day. The women's washroom on the first floor constantly smelled of urine, making the Chinese rural washrooms I had been in seem pristine. This hospital and everyone except the nurses is a horror.

Lucie Morillon

I went there recently after my doctor advised me to go to the ER if the pain was not getting better after multiple treatments for a UTI. After waiting 2 hours and 30 minutes, they put me in a room where I waited 30 minutes before they took a urine sample. While waiting I could see that another patient with a broken nose was complaining that he had been waiting to see a doctor for almost 4 hours. A doctor came back to me, telling me they didn't see anything in the urine and I should go back to my doctor. It turned out the infection had spread in the bladder and kidneys. I was bedridden for 10 days in excruciating pain. I had a similar experience a few years ago at St Michael's. I will definitely never go back to this hospital. EVER.

Jean Tovey

My husband was there for kidney stone removal.. There an excellent hospital!! ????

Tina K

I was born here and I've made it a tradition to have all my kids here, and in 10 days I'm about to have my 3rd child there. The nurses are great and have always been amazing with me and my family. I travel from deep Scarborough just to be taken care by them.

Sobiah C

Great hospitals one of the best ones in Ontario Dr. Marcon is extremely humble, kind and professional. The best doctor and human being I have ever come across. Thank you Dr. Marcon for everything you have done for my family!

Absolutely incredible hospital, my mom yesterday had a high risk surgery thank god all went well. Doctors, nurses, staff, security, cleaners!!! Everyone was so helpful happy working there and they help you with everything and always there for you! Especially doctor's and nurses they were amazing definitely recommend this hospital! Thanks a million everyone that works there.

Paul Rosenberg

Neuro ICU and Ortho floor is wonderful. The staff were helpful to my mother in a very timely way, always caring and taking proper care of her.

Jan Vy

Gynecology surgery Unfortunately, my hospital stay was horrible. The procedure I had is very painful and women usually stay 2 nights in the hospital after surgery. The manager (Mary), the administrator and nurses were the rudest and unprofessional people I've ever met. They spend their day gossiping about patients and laughing out loud. My room was located right in front of reception and could not believe what I was hearing. I was also in a lot of pain and when I asked for medication, they withheld it and told me to wait an hour. The room was also very dirty - the cleaners kept finding needles on the bedroom floor. Why were NEEDLES on the floor?! I ended up leaving the hospital after 1 night because I felt so uncomfortable there. I will always remember the kind nurse who helped walk me out of the hospital that night. I later found out that she was from a different hospital and contracted to work there because it's so busy.

Ray Young

My family and I have only ever received the absolute best care from this hospital on multiple occasions. The Doctors, Nurses and Volunteers are all top notch and their compassion for patients is second to none. Thank you for everything you've done and continue to do.

Joanne R

I have to say that my experience with both the staff and doctors has been nothing but excellent. I never once felt like any or my concerns where taken lightly and they took excellent care of my husband. Thank you!

review date: december 6, 2021 customer service dates: may 2002, then ongoing follow up until september 2003 i understand that this was from a long time ago, but it was still a lived experience, and wanted to put up this review. back on may 5, 2002 i was driving a car, coming home from visiting a dj friend at a nightclub. i got hit from behind by another driver who subsequently took off and was never caught. from the accident i suffered a bruised collarbone, torn acl/mcl/lcl in the right knee, a fractured right tibial plateau, and a fractured left talus. i stayed in the hospital for 12 days. the majority of the staff were very fair if not nice. there were a few lazy nurses on night shift but i want the overall tone of this message to be positive. ongoing visits were done for the next 16 months. a second operation in july 2003 was done to remove a metal plate and screws in the right knee area. so while it is 19 years after the fact, i would like to let the hospital people know, that i am forever grateful for the hard work of dr. robert mcbroom the surgeon, and a big shout out to physiotherapist at the time, jon groh. there was also a nurse named shea mckenzie who was very nice as well. what i appreciated the most was jon's encouragement during my difficult time at the hospital. when i was ready to leave (at the time i was in a wheelchair), i told jon that someday i will get back to walking, and i will come and visit him to show my appreciation. jon was appreciative but was a bit skeptical - understandable because most people forget things when they get back to their regular living. i followed thru on my word a year later and jon was sincerely surprised and pleased when i came to visit, to say thanks. there were quite a few staff watching and they were surprised that someone would come back a year later from out-of-town (hamilton) on the bus just to stop by and say thanks. i wanted to let jon know that his altruistic conduct during my difficult time really meant a lot to me, and that by trying to repay that kindness by coming in as promised, that he would hopefully understand the difference he made in my life. ???? at this time i am able to walk but was diagnosed with arthritis about 5 years ago, which i was warned about when rehabilitating. while i cannot play sports anymore, i can walk and move around decently, with medication. bottom line: st. michael's hospital did a great job for me, and i would recommend this hospital as a healthcare provider if i needed to use them, if i was in the area.

St Michael hospital staff on 4 floor ICU, were incredible caregivers to my mother in-law. They were very informative & caring . Rudy, Anne, cya. to name a few. She was there for 4 days. She passed on 27 th, went peacefully with family. We the Carnegie can't thank you enough for making her last days on earth filled with loving & caring medical treatment. Your cafeteria food on other hand has something to be desired. Tim Horton , staff need to listen to what is order . The 4 days I was there they never got orders right. Thank you Carnegie Family

Worst place I have ever been too. Rude staff who rolled their eyes at any opportunity. The doctor got blood all over my clothes and then kicked me out to go home. They didn’t give me any pain killers and basically just cut open my skin with a knife. I’m not upset, I am disgusted.

Nouman R

Overall delivery and post partum care was good. NICU nurses absolutely horrendous and rude. My son was in NICU for 2 weeks and they would tell us to go home because they would look after our baby. Babies are left to cry and scream with no attention from the nurses. After much argument my wife and I took turns staying the night despite their efforts to stop us, or try to make our stay as uncomfortable as possible. Highly inconsiderate and unsympathetic. Please do not go to the NICU at St. Michael's Hospital.

Krista Wesley

You can't rate negative stars. If you could, I would. Someone went there for help on 08/09/14. The patient wasn't in dire enough straits, so, in front of the patient, a companion and a horrified nurse, Dr. H stated to the patient, 'What do you want me to do on a Saturday night?' The patient left. Nice work, St. Michael's. Nice work.

Daniel A. Cooper

It's a good hospital. Attentive and relatable, human-focused staff make a visit to Emerg all the more bearable.

I had a lumpectomy yesterday and I can't say enough about the staff at St. Mikes. They were genuinely kind - especially Vicki and Vivian on the 5th floor Day Surgery.

Peter Christo

I want more time in bed and I couldn't sit for too long.

Arrived in emergency at approx 2am this morning as my girlfriend was having severe pains. Since then there has been a huge lack of any guidance or direction from doctors or nurses. It is 8am now and we just found out who our designated nurse is. The communication is very poor, and the service here is very poor. I don’t expect a Hilton Hotel five star for customer service, however I do expect that they show they care within the work that they do. Now is a perfect example to why they should cut jobs in the health care sector because there are a bunch of “care givers” not doing much care giving. BE ATTENTIVE TO YOUR PATIENTS AND SHOW THAT YOU CARE!!!

Lauren Cruess

This hospital USED to be the place I would trust with my life (and would recommend to others) and while I would still recommend any other part but the emerg department being there for an emergency has become a horrible experience. Triage didn't actually ask me any relevant questions and just sent me to ambulatory (where I waited almost 2 hours just to be actually triaged). The nurses (and doctors) seem to assume that anyone who is there in actual pain is just there to score pain medication and it seemed the security guards, porters and fellow patients cared more than the medical staff working there. After 4 hours I finally got part one of my x-rays done, then 2.5 hours later (as I was "awaiting results") got sent for other x-rays (it would've been far more productive to get them all done at once). It's also a unnerving to give a diagnosis in an open (and very busy) waiting area with no care for privacy whatsoever (this used to not be the case) and to make matters worst the doctor publicly belittled me for having a panic attack due to the pain (which was very unprofessional). I don't go to hospitals unless I absolutely need to (often waiting till I'm lectured by family members or doctors to go), and this treatment (during covid or not) is unacceptable for any human being.

I went to St Michael hospital November 21, 2021 to emergency room because my ear was really hurt. I had to wait 2.5 hours in the room and when I asked the nurse 50th years old, how long I had to wait because I am in pain. She answered Very rude : I have a patient. Another asian nurse, she was nice and answered and told me that the doctor will come to see me soon. Expensive but you got rude and unprofessional service When I went there, I gave the front desk all of my info, and I told her that I have no OHIP so I will pay . She said that she will send me a bill and I can pay online. I was waiting for the letter, but it never arrived. Someone from Accounts Receivable called my roommate and asked how to contact me because I had a bill. He contacted me to let me know and called them back with my contact info. This is really UNPROFESSIONAL! I shared his phone number in case of emergency if something happened to me so he can call my family in my home country. Why would your staff call him to ask for my email/address and share that I had a bill with him? How can your staff share our personal information with another person, I believe that it is not allowed by law. I gave my all personal details when I was there, and I showed my University membership card . I asked to pay and they said that they will send me a bill . They charged me for $900 to have bad service and color only give me note for amoxilin. This is Very bad , they know how to make money

This morning was my first visit at the health center. DR.STEELE was very helpful, I highly recommend going there :)

Viv King

Took care of my son when he injured his ankle. Everyone was very nice and professional. The building is new but parking is a bit challenging but we managed to get around.

Nichole Brown

I had some difficulty with the neurology department, but now I am a patient of the Pain Clinic. A total turn around from neuro, nurses are great and Dr. Chan is a life changer.

Peter Lawrence

I have to say December 29th 2020 the staff that attended to my medical issue were fantastic. Unfortunately the self priviledged Cardiologist team that supposedly was to follow up and help with treatment for my condition must still be working on how to do job. 5 months I get a call and ask how am I doing. I do not know my heart and BPM avg 158. Oh maybe we should get you a monitor and I will call you in a couple of months. We'll do not worry I got worse so I should be dead when you call. The worst medical treament I have seen. I am sure they just using me for a couple ohip payments till I die. Thank you for making my end of life so sad. They know that they have such a bad cardiologist team they do not even care to follow up. Well let's see what happens when legal gets involved as your lack of care is manslaughter specially when the echocardiogram showed you my heart was failing do to being in constant Afib and you did nothing

Amit Thakor

i am thankful to the doctor who attended me as I busted my lip while ice skating and needed 2 stitches in the inside...but I waited at least an hour...it was Christmas time so may be all the docs were off duty but given that its an emergency ward, it had to be faster as I was bleeding

Crystal Stoner

I have been here twice in a few weeks for the same issues severe pain in chest and stomach vomitting and diarrhea yet they keep sending me home with no answers, I haven't been able to eat or drink anything in over a month I'm very sick but nobody in that ER seems to care but they run around helping the alcoholics and addicts. I need help I live alone I have nobody to make sure I'm ok

Nelson Wong

I accompanied a friend to have his herniated lumbar disc operated by Dr. Lock Macdonald who used Microdiscectomy surgery technique and my friend recovered from a "totally unable to walk because of very sharp pain" to now living a normal life. Hospital with great staff. Its founding goal was to take care of the sick and poor in the inner city of Toronto. It has absolutely exceeded its goal. I wish it receives more fund raising from the general public to upkeep its facilities. People complains of its old building, and they need to understand hospital is not fully funded by the government. The community has the responsibility to support it. I wish I can give it more than 5 stars.

Abdelrazeg Houssein

I had family member emergency the triage process was pretty efficient. My family member was admitted within 10 min Of entrance

Jonathan Borup

Had my baby last week at St. Michael’s - Labour & Delivery and it was a friendly, supportive and excellent experience. The nurses, support staff, doctors and care we received was 5 out of 5. As new first time parents, we will be forever grateful. My only 1 critique is that I believe some of the advice for newborn care (bottle feed reluctance and no mention that baby should not sleep with a hat and a few minor things), I believe is too rigid/traditional (compared to advice from online sources), however I can appreciate that as the guidance may need to be more general since every baby has different needs and it is ultimately up to the parents to find what works best for them. Thank you St. Michael’s!!

Dean Pearce

Possibly the worst emergency room "help" I have ever received. In 2018 I went to the ER for significant pain on the left side of my head. Doctor was insanely rude and condesending, saying I have pain because of my weight, without doing a single test or check. He spent literally 20 seconds with me before saying get out. Turned out to be an extremely severe sinus infection that ended up causing permanent damage. I don't expect much from doctors, but this fell short of even my lowest expectations.

some brown guy

I like this hospital a lot. My twins were in the NICU for 1 week and all the staff, nurses and doctors were amazing. They were compassionate and caring and really made my wife and I feel at ease. This was one of the best hospitals I've been to.

Tracy R. L.

I’m not a fan of this hospital but my rating is only because of the dr who preformed my surgery. Excellent eye care clinic. Dr. Matthew Bujak Is one of the best Drs. I went from having a damaged permanent lense to having a successful cornea transplant ???? Thank you and I’m forever grateful.

Noorshat Kabir

It’s sickening on how poor the service can be. A friend of mine is already very sick he needs oxygen and pump to clean his lungs was send to st.michaels for bronchoscopy. After they put him in a big serial and he waited 14 hours they did his bronchoscopy. 4 days he called his lung specialist for the report and finds out the bronchoscopy wasn’t done correctly and the equipment had issues. This hospital didn’t ever care to call and inform the patient about this neither did they apologize. It’s a shame for a country which is so called advanced has a system so poor especially in a hospital at the heart of Toronto downtown.

edyta d

Overhaul. This hospital needs a cheif of houskeeping. The patients rooms are dirty, just sick looking at the floor. The air quality is so bad; hot, stale. . ... perfect place for bacteria to flourish. I am shocked on how dirty it is.

voltix54

A doctor at this hospital didn't take a patient seriously when she came in with a hurt shoulder joint. According to him there was nothing wrong and it should heal itself while also being incredibly rude but its been over a month the shoulder has not gotten much better and she needs physical therapy because of it. I should mention that the patient was a women of colour so please be careful and always stand up for yourself. Every patient deserves to be taken seriously.

Old hospital I remember when my baby born there was not hot water for three days and they couldn't wash the baby

Chris Leon

I got treated for a concussion at emergency and registration, triage, and ambulatory staff where very accommodating and patient. Made the whole experience alot better. Gave me all the information i needed and a follow up appointment. A bit of wait time but thats to be expected during a global pandemic. I regret not being able to get there names true heros all of them :) .

As visitors the 24 hour visitation policy seems like it is a great idea. Maybe the 24 hour visiting policy is for sleeping over in the hospital at night, but it doesn't work. Maybe it is not the best thing for other patients trying to get rest at night. I went to the Trauma Neuro ICU and witnessed several visitors sleeping at the bedside at night. They have 2 chairs, one for their legs, and are sleeping with hospital blankets. That means I don't have a comfortable chair. That means no more blankets for myself or my father who is a patient. People are using the waiting room like a cafeteria, and leaving it messy with pizza boxes, or other food lying around. Strange people who look like street people are lying on the couches in the waiting room. Sometimes these people have claimed ownership of the couch and have not gone home for days. These areas are unhygienic and I fear I may catch a terrible disease and bring it to my father at the bedside. It can be noisy in the wait rooms with some families numbering dozens while we have just two or three. The chaos and disorder sometimes is unsettling, and you just want people to go home. At night there is supposed to be one person staying, yet many times several people for the same patient are laying around the wait room and sleeping. Sleeping at the bedside and sleeping in the wait room. I don't see how that is helping sick people get well. I don't sleep in the hospital. I visit my father, then go home. I can't visit while I am sleeping can I? Maybe the 24 hour visiting policy should not include family sleeping in the hospital.

I came here for chest pains, took them two hours to get a ecg, and had me wait in the ER for three hours total. I had to leave after three hours because a doctor had not seen me yet and I was actively being abused by the nurses and being commanded to move from one spot to another half a dozen times and spoken to as if I was a dog. They neglected me and abused me until I was so unwell I had to leave the ER room for the sake of my life. I contacted paitent relations they did not contact me back nor are they picking up their phone after two dozen calls in the A.M.

Kerry Mayers (Zybotsu)

I waited for 3 hours then enquired about the hold up, to find out that I was not even assigned a doctor. Perhaps they are overwhelmed with patients due to COVID but they could be a bit more transparent and inform patients that there will be a long delay so that people aren’t waiting indefinitely. I gave one star because they did not even assign a doctor to see me after all that time so I left. Poor management. I recommend going to your family doctor is possible.

I had a nulcear medicine test done here as an outpatient and had excellent service. Personnel were knowledgable, considerate, and friendly. Thank you!

Demos Theodorakakis

I visited the ER last year and received good care from the doctor. The male nurse with tattoos all over his arms was rude, angry and unprofessional. I suspect as a mental health worker; the nurse has substance/addiction issues.

Craig

Very nice new Emergency Department, and nice staff. 10/10 would get sick again.

Nine years ago I had a scope done at Ajax hospital on my right ankle which went terribly bad (infection/septic) and that changed my life forever..... an awful experience I had with that surgeon and Ajax hospital. Very long story. Eventually I had to get back to sorting out a repair that I did not get originally. I was referred to Dr Daniels at St Michael’s hospital and heard such amazing things about him and his work. After nearly 6 years of waiting (which I was totally willing to wait) I had my arthroscopic ankle fusion done on March 7/19 ...just 3 days ago. The experience I had at St Mikes the week prior for the many pre-op appointments and the day of my surgery we’re just amazing! I can’t believe how every single staff member were so kind, helpful and super efficient! My husband and I were so impressed. :) You hear things along the way like Dr. Daniels is not very personable etc etc... which in my short experiences with him he really wasn’t.... but that is NOT what you are there for! He has a job to do and would not have the time or energy to hold people’s hands and wipe their sniffles away. The surgery went well.... it was smooth right to the last staff member that helped my husband get me to our vehicle. I realize I still have a long way to go but those experiences and the confidence I have in Dr. Daniels, makes me feel like there is a light FINALLY, on my journey with this ankle of mine and i’m excited to get to the next stages! Thank you Dr. Daniels, Helen and St Mikes with your wonderful staff! Lisa Maxwell :)

I love this hospital I volunteer there in the eye clinic and even had my baby there. Very nice place. I'm moved and mad I can't have my 2nd child there. St. Mike's is the best!!!!!

A certain clinic could be more efficient (= no overbooking!) and one particular specialist tends to be slightly misogynist, but overall I have recieved great care at this hospital. They treat people with respect regardless of their religious background. Major bonus points for having a Tim Hortons on site!

Abhi Raheja

Been waiting for 1.5 hrs to see a doctor in the emergency section. I can’t breathe properly and my eyes are so swollen that I can’t see properly. My eyes won’t stop tearing. I have intense pain in chest and throat but the nurses keep saying “there are other people who are in a lot of pain too” I’m really sick I can’t take it anymore this is torture

Ronald Chang

Very good nurses but lost my $300 glases suspected taken by casual staff tydying bed .she also mentioned I should go buy another glases at the dollor store which I thought was very rude .

Blair

Wonderful loving and caring staff who treat people with dignity and respect. The chapel is beautiful and offers a place of sanctuary for those times when we seen to need it most. This is also the only place I know of that sells "White Castle" sliders via a vending machine. Needless to say it was a very nice surprise that helped to pick up my spirts! God bless us one and all, please pray for those who are ill and suffering. Happiness, laughter and love are the greatest medicine of all ????????❤

I love the hospital. Great people work there but there are idiots who abuse their system and refuse service with no cause. My mom had post operation issues and were told to call them and ask for the on call surgeon as they are supposed to help. We called, the page went to the person but the on call guy REFUSED the call. The emerg staff were great however and they took care of her even though we need to go back. They truly do try to give good care.

Peter Selk

The CT scan part of medical imaging is grossly inefficient. I was sent there by a specialist. When I mentioned my very unpleasant experience there to my family doc, he said they are so bad that he never sends patients to St Mike's for medical imaging.

For a child like parent is St. Michael’s Hospital for my wife and for my kids. This is the hospital which gave life to my wife after she was hit by a car to her deathbed. An outstanding medical treatment and love and compassion of everyone who served her made everything possible for our kids, my wife and me. Thank you St. Michael’s Hospital for everything. It is so hard to put into words how much this hospital means to me and my family.

Chas Ellis

Quick admission bloodwork lots of waiting had pancreatitis. They threw me out 18 hours later with very little thoughts that I was not better. Very disappointing next time should the need arises I will go to a different energency

Todd Perry

just saved my lifeto say theleast Angie was the best nurse ever hands down no comprisonshe was a shining light in a very darkcaxeof post stroke

To Dr. Christopher Witiw of St. Michael hospital, my entire family and I express our wholehearted appreciation for Dr. Witiw and his entire operation team’s amazing surgical technique in successfully removing my mom’s spinal tumour at once on March 17, 2021, it was a true miracle that my mom was able to get up and walk the next day. To the staff and nurses, we are deeply grateful for the care and professional attention you all have provided to my mom during and after her spinal operation when she needed close attention the most. Even though my mom speaks only Mandarin Chinese, everyone was extremely friendly and patient with her, I received multiple phone calls from the stuff to ensure me that my mom was doing well. Your kindness and care to my mom will never be forgotten. You are all truly incredible and we cannot thank you all enough!

PG Kris

Exceptional nurses, doctors and social worker. We unfortunately have the worst outcome to deliver a stillborn as our baby boy passed away in the womb at 8 months. My wife and I couldn’t have done this without your help. Thank you. Dr Andrea Lausman was extraordinary and so were the nurses. Amanda, our social worker really helped me process this loss better than I would have.

Yves Stephan

been for 3 days in to hospital , food is disgusting frozen vegetable , uneatable meet , what i heard from the staff the hospital use fresh food and vegetable and clarity meets for they catering company which sale out of the hospital... Tv. service is impossible to deal with.Health care is the biggest spender of Canadian budget and health workers a the most pay employs of our country. I can't believe the number of staff are working and how they work ... please cut doc employs salary slash my taxes and build private hospitals they can provide bather and health and efficient services...

lystra salazar

I was very impressed with Dr Taryn Lloyd as she took great care of me. I am grateful for that. Emergency department do looks good. The changes in department is much better that I have seen.

Diana Chaves

Dr. Samantha Marriage saw me at the ER. She was so kind and knew how to manage my combine symptoms of physical and psychological pain. She went out of her way to try to help me in what it was in her power. Thank you for your great and …

There is a very clear disconnect amongst your nurses and between your doctors and nurses. Communication and proper handoff during shift change will improve your process tremendously but that's easier said than done. After spending 11 hours at your ER last night, my sister, a nurse practitioner to be and I were taken back by the lack of professionalism by the nurse who finally discharged us. Would'nt it frustrate you if your nurse is asking the patient and their family for updates when you'd think it should be the other way around? Thank you for your care but if you want to improve, take a deep look at your processes and areas for improvement.

Ziah Zhao

Not a busy day. Got accepted from front desk within 20mins, I am the first one showed up in the waiting room somehow waited 1 HOUR for a doctor. Inevitable scenario.

The Mental Health clinical trial/research team are amazing and kind. Best Mental Health care I’ve received in a while!

Danielle DeGregorio

My grandfather passed away in the ER a few weeks ago. The nurses and palliative care doctors were very attentive and compassionate. They made his passing as painless as possible and checked in on us regularly. So a huge thank you to them. Unfortunately, we had issues with security in front of the ER. The doctors and receptionist explicitly told my whole family that we were permitted to come and go from the ER building throughout the day to get food and take walks, as we were confined to one room, waiting for my grandfather to pass away. However, whenever we would try to get back into the ER, a security guard would give us a hard time. I would been able to overlook the inconvenience of explaining the situation to them multiple times, but in my grandfather's final moments, some of us were trying to get back in, but security would not let us pass. It was awful to see members of my family crying and calling out to my dying grandfather from outside the building as he was taking his last breaths. We could not be there by his side because security didn't know we were allowed to go into the ER. I completely understand that security has to do their jobs and they have been given instructions about whom to let in and when. But we were told multiple times by staff in the ER that we were an exception because my grandfather was on his deathbed. It was incredibly upsetting to have to clash with security all day, and especially in my grandfather's final moments. This lack of communication prevented us from being all together when he died. I can only imagine how difficult it is to be hospital staff especially during this pandemic and I understand that that security has to deal with difficult people every day. I know it's easy for me to criticize in hindsight, but I'm writing this review in hopes that some attention will be given to this issue so that others won't experience what we did. If the policies and communication are clearer between security and medical staff, it will save some families a lot of hurt. Thank you very much for reading.

I went to this er after going in and out of emergency rooms for 4 months with infection after infection .I am so grateful to the amazing team who were able to find out the problem. There were so many events happening on the ER that night and the doctors, nurses, and technicians handled it with humour and grace that was admirable and inspiring.

Khrizy K

You know what, I hate the services in this hospital. I still haven’t received my results and doctor did not call on what meds to take for three days now and counting. So RIP $740 on those emergency stuffs.. And yes I did ask for the results but told me again and again “wait for the call.” So if I’m dying I have to wait that long huh?

Samantha Davis

I have had two horrible experiences here. Also it’s a student hospital so get ready to wait for hours. I had to ASK for a tetanus shot when one nurse just walked away. The only person that cared was the actual Doctor.

S B

Great hospital, amazing medical staff and security. I came in with a bunch of friends in a panic and went into the wrong entrance. Security was able to escort us to ER. The staff in the ER were extremely busy and still took the time let is know how out family member was doing. They recieved amazing care.

Onyx Money Drops

I was booked for an appointment at the kidney stone clinic, after arriving I found out that the office was closed that day for a holiday. I traveled from far, paid for parking and was very disappointed. I contacted patient relations and they were pretty helpful, by offering to reimburse me for the unnecessary parking fees. My procedure went well, the doctors were nice, but they still lost a star for giving an appointment on the wrong day. I was not the only one waiting for the clinic that day either.

Samantha B

Treat their patients poorly. They treat the family members poorly as if they are criminals. Security treats everyone poorly. They release patients onto the street, knowing they seriously need help and a proper program. They don’t take anything seriously. They don’t provide pillows, showers or proper food for their patients. The lights are left on they can’t even sleep properly. The doctors do not communicate with family members as the information is strictly “confidential”, therefor you’re left with no choice but to not help and not have a plan of assistance. The patient is unaware of this and also not capable of making their own decisions but yet you’re not allowed to know what’s happening. Poorly run. Assistants and nurses are nice and helpful but anyone else forget about it. There’s 0 communication of what’s going on and hard to locate a doctor. Patient is left unattended for hours.

Zane A.

Ching-Ping Lin

My husband came in for some urinary pains at the emergency ward. After a few tests, the doctors claim that the charts indicate that he is okay. My husband is still in pain. These doctors are not helpful. In my opinion, they need more training.

David D

Although it took a while to see a triage nurse, once I was seen, everyone was wonderful. All the doctors, nurses, and support staff made sure I had everything I needed.

pegasus Maximillion

Good doctors but very dirty place, dont understand who does there maintenance and cleaning its gross my son does better job and I dont even have kids lol

Soumeya Gelmo

Unlike east general, you guys didn't almost kill my mom....ps shout out to that awesome nurse with the awesome hair

Taha

I never write reviews, I'm saving you all the time and pain to suffer at this hospital. I waited for 5 HOURS AND DIDNT GOT SERVED AT ALL!!!! WHEN I ASKED NURSE SHE SAID SHE CANT GIVE ME TIME FRAME? I MEAN ARE YOU SERIOUS? NURSES ARE SUPER RUDE AND THERE WERE ONLY 5 PATIENTS IN WAITING ROOM BUT STILL SO LONG WAIT? Why? I WOULD HIGHLY ADVISE PLEASE SUFFER AND DIE IN YOUR APARTMENT RATHER THAN GO TO THIS HOSPITAL.

D D

I was admitted to the 4th floor as they had no beds on the floor I was supposed to be on...The room and bathroom were exceptionally small...small is no excuse for the filthy conditions . There was poop or dried blood on the wall beside my bed.. The staff just say it's old...again no excuse for the floors not being washed and the toilet and sink weren't cleaned once in my 5 days in the room!! There's no excuse for it plus my roommates family were using the patient bathroom and when I complained about it the staff said they can't stop them from using it...there's a sign posted by the bathroom door that reads for patients only! What good is the sign!? My roommate snored so loud it gave me a headache and the nurses comments were we can here her way down the hall...I asked to be moved several times and was told no! Ridiculous! I got no sleep at all the whole time I was there 5 very long days! My rights to access decent healthcare certainly didn't happen here!! I spoke to patient relations while I was there to no avail! It also took them 4 days to get a dietician so I could get food I could eat .I starved the whole time I was there cause I went home the day after the dietician saw me and the changes weren't in the computer yet... crazy! I went home in far worse shape than I went came in!! I went home to recover from my hospital stay!! Do not go to this hospital! Do no reply to this review saying to reach patient relations they're useless!!

Hao Wu

I had the worst experience at this hospital. Waited for hours, unfriendly staff. One male nurse in ambulatory was extremely rude to patients, and refused to answer the wait rankings. He even threatened me after my 4th hour there. The patient waited for hours and wanted for some water. The vending machines are all broken. When seeking help from nurses, they rejected us. I feel I got treated in a non human way.

Albert Appleby

I have been going there for 2 years and getting treatment for botched cataract surgery on both eyes by a surgeon who is at st mike. Dr Giavedoni came to my rescue. Being left blind by the other surgeon in my left eye. Dr Giavedoni did emergency surgery and saved both eyes

09/11/21. Entered from the Queen St side. During the screening questions the young lady proceeded to thong hand me a mask. I shook my head and said, no thank you I have my own. I was wearing at the time a surgical yellow mask and a cloth mask on the outside. What a rude and ignorant experience I had from then on. This person raised there voice showing their intolerance and said I have to give this to you it is policy. Please be aware that a surgical mask can also be yellow, blue is not the only color, I work in direct contact with vunarable clients and have proper PPE. Train your staff to resolve conflicts and be tolerant. Supervisor was called because of a simple issue. This young lady robbed me of time with my palliative client who died less than half hour after getting into her room.. Very stumped at the level of incompetence of that staff. On another note I like this hospital very much and thank you staff on the Palliative floor. You guys are amazing.

Corrina Boudreau

I had surgery by Dr das and he is absolutely amazing ...

Helene

Dr. A. Scheer, Sofia V., nurses, others doctors , technicians, adminstration, volunteers all provide EXCELLENT service. Starting from Pre-surgery meeting to Post surgery. They were all so kind, helpful, and extremely efficient at their jobs. Just amazing!!! You would be in very GOOD hands at St. Mikes.

Nelson Alexander

Horrible horrible service.Coming here was an utter waste of time.We have been waiting here since 4 hours to consult a doctor but looks like that’s not gonna happen anytime soon.A very disorganised and unprofessional hospital where the staff is least bothered bout the patients and are busy chit chatting. We understand that you are working but please don forget that we hav a job too.Looks like the policy is to leave the patient unattended to a point where they are unable to walk out and their condition just worsens to a point where they don’t have any option but to just wait. Please take your work seriously guys and stop wasting others time. And for the ppl reading this review, look for another option,I guess any other place will be better, unless you have a lot of time to kill.

Best CF hospital with the best CF doctors. The nurses on the 6th floor are the greatest nurses you'll ever meet. I've been to multiple CF clinics and none of them even compare!

Andrew

So I got to emergency at 1 am it was pretty busy... Everyone seemed to be drunk with drunken injuries or looking to get some pills... Unfortunately all I have is a spinal injury so I sit here and watch every other person be taken into a room before me... 8 hours I have been here and I seriously think they forgot about me... Do I leave knowing I have an injury? Or do I sit here alone in this cold room without any basic needs including sleep? Tough choice... Canadian healthcare is a joke. It's only free for the junkies who abuse it... I am paying with my sanity.

The One

perhaps dementia happened and just a little bit of memory lost ... I can't remember the name of the nurse that , I first saw , when i first opened my eyes on the bed of Er. last summer... haha... so you know what I've did last summerrrrrr..... oh well , thank you to the sweetest and beautiful nurse that revived me ...... uhm. that day :)) Nguyen

I was in the ICU for a few weeks then sent to 9th floor for brain recovery, before going to rehab. The doctors and nurses were excellent. Also went to the 2019 legacy tea recently to meet the nurses and doctors. Absolutely the best hospital in GTA.

J Dion

awesome hospital!! everyone is excellent, competant, fast, efficient, extremely compassionate, best of the best in every way and all aspects. everyone should be proud to work here.

Came in today Feb 15, 2019 3:07 AM for a sore throat, I waited for the triage nurse for an HOUR, I would understand if there were other patience but there were none and she wasn’t on her desk. Washroom isn’t clean at all and it’s smelly. Unhelpful and slow staff. Staff doesn’t take their job seriously.

Tracey Aylesworth

I was fortunate enough to be referred to Dr Marcus Burnstein after I had my colon removed. He improved my quality of life tremendously after my J Pouch reversal procedure. It was a 2 -part surgery so my stay was 7 days first surgery and 4 days for the final surgery. St Michael's is second to none in care and professionalism. From the Admitting clerks, PSWs, technicians, nurses and surgeons I felt confident and reassured that I was in good hands. My PSW was so gentle, empathetic. I felt special. The Gastrointestinal floor nurses were supportive, encouraging and caring. I feel so blessed to have this quality of healthcare in my beloved country. My family and I are so grateful.

I’ve lived in acute care hospitals for 2 years and have been to 5 emergency departments in Toronto. This was by far the best emergency experience I’ve had at any. I have the severe version of an illness that is rarely seen in hospital. This was the only time my attending actually researched it at the Stanford website I recommended. He could not help me much, but the nurses who took blood and inserted catheters did so very professionally and he was respectful. The new ER has a silent call bell system which creates a calm environment. The first room I was in was immaculate. The sliding doors closed for privacy. The kind nurse hooked my iPod up with internet as I didn’t have a cellphone and needed to communicate my location. The hospital was truly fragrance free as were the allied healthcare staff. I had my call bell on to pee for an hour and finally had to get my girlfriend to call the ER from California before actually receiving a bedpan from a nurses aid (who only used the paper part so it broke and the entire gurney had to be changed and washed). This was ridiculous. I was moved to another room which reeked of urine. I asked housekeeping to clean it but they did a bad job and I remained in the stink for hours. I know some would give fewer stars, but for not knowing anything about my disease and admitting it gets this hospital 4 because that has never happened before. The quiet, calm and professionalism also contributed to my good experience. Thank you. Keep it up. Update: one year later I returned for a bone density test. Not only was the technician very pleasant and capable, but I got out of the appointment before it was even scheduled to begin! That kind of great timing has never happened in any healthcare facility before. I also liked that I could view my own bones from where I lay as they were x-rayed. Some techs try to hide the screen from you so you don't ask questions. I appreciated the open concept + looking at my bones was really cool. Another great experience here. Keep up the good work.

Ariana Garcia

They made an appointment for me for 2:45 today.. it's already past 6:30. I understand if it was an hour or two because this is a hospital after all. But don't tell me I have to be here on time, and make me pay for my own parking, while I wait for more than 4hours to get drops in my eyes.... There is also no one around that I can talk to concerning this. The reception desk is closed and the hallways are empty... this is honestly the worst.

Kevin Docherty

I found out my son was admitted there the day before so I was calling in to find out what is going on. They transferred me from one department to another many times. The main switch could not find him and eventually said we can't find him, sorry. I asked if they can look up to see if he was there on the previous day, but they just said "No, we cannot do that, bye" . Very rude, not helpful and I get it is busy but just imagine how I am feeling now not knowing. And they won't let you come in due to COVID. I guess they don' have computers there, they should get some it would help, maybe they could find patients then easily and fast and won't sound so stressed and overworked? I do realize this is really another failure of our government, they are the ones who all need to be fired!

Lemons & Ants

We have nothing but praise for this hospital. Our children were all born here. The Nurses, doctors and staff were nothing but excellent. They were attentive and careful. We had a difficult birth for both mother and child. It was a close call without getting into any details. But nevertheless, the nurses responded swiftly and quickly to our emergency situation. They notice something that didn't seem right and quickly called to action. I can't thank them enough. Your in good hands at this hospital.

Walt

Thank you Dr. T. Daniels , Helen Owh , the Terrence Donnelly Day Surgery Medical Team at St. Michael’s Hospital , staff and all who contributed to make my day surgery so comfortable and worry free . Your professionalism , kindnesses and care were outstanding and greatly appreciated . Aftercare at the Fracture Clinic was top-tier . Thank you Benjamin , Nurse Esther , and Orthopaedic Tech. Shiraz for your efficiency , warmth and compassion . My surgery and recovery have been nothing short of amazing . You are all forever in my heart . St. Mike’s care is World Class .

sola joseph

Thanks to Dr. Pace, Marketa and the team for giving me a better quality of life. The medical system is not perfect and definitely needs an improvement. I am just grateful for all the work put into the surgery I had this week and majority of the staff i interacted with at this hospital were hardworking, knowledgeable and kind.

Shar D

My son had to be admitted for two weeks on the 6th floor. I was there several times for many hours at a time and was super impressed with every single nurse that was helping him. I wish I could thank every nurse that came into our lives and made his two weeks bearable. ❤️

Katrina F

I've been to at least 7 different hospitals in Ontario in the past 10 years but St. Mike's is by far the best hospital I've ever been to! The doctors here will do absolutely everything and anything they possibly can to make sure you are taken care of and that your diagnosis is accurate. All nurses were also very nice and helpful.

Raquel St Laurent

I just wanted to thank all the lovely, friendly staff for their expertise and assistance while dealing with my situation. Thank you so much to all of you Angels and the work you do❤

Isuru Weerasekera

The folks working at the surgical unit is amazing, and they really care a lot about their patients. Everyone working here is super organized.

Alannah

I am editing my initial review, as I believe the customer service I had during my initial appointments was a one off and not reflective of the customer service at this hospital. I had to go to emergency last night and get my throat drained/ incision. I cannot believe HOW amazing the nursing staff and doctors were. Yes it was about a 3 hour wait on Saturday night but it all moved quickly and I was out of there in 5 hours surgery* and prescriptions in hand. The emergency nursing staff deserves a major kudos as they deal with a lot of people and some are not so kind (yelling and swearing at the nurses) as I experienced in my time there. It is an inner city hospital- so don’t expect it to be fancy and brand new. They do have all the equipment and fantastic care. The patient care staff at this hospital has always been completely amazing and so welcoming and compassionate, they put their patients first !! So kudos to that.

Saeed Parsa

Very friendly environment. I believe I had the best experience in the emergency department other than any other hospital that I have visited before!

My wife has been a patient here on and off for about 2 years now and some of the things we've witnessed has been horrendous. 1. Disease control, hospital wide is so incredibly poor that my wife came in with a serious but manageable lung infection and because of an undertrained food worker was given a TERMINAL lung infection and now has weeks to live. Not to mention the dozens if not hundreds of times we've had to remind nurses to follow basic disease control procedures just to be scowled at and given attitude. 2. The cleanliness and upkeep of St Mikes is worse than most cheap motels I've seen. The interior is constantly filthy and the washrooms are always in chaos. At one time we entered a new room only to find it had cockroaches. I've witnessed pools of vomit and tissues covered in blood surrounding both the main entrance and the ER entrance that hadn't been cleaned up in multiple hours if not days at some points. 3. Noise level is a constant issue. St Mikes is currently undergoing some construction and because of that workers will begin drilling loudly for hours from very early in the morning onwards. Currently as I write this my wife's hospital room is close to being shook by the noise level and she hasn't been able to get a full night's sleep in over a month. Even nights when there is no construction going on the nurses are constantly waking her up to do vitals from anywhere between 4 to 7 in the morning. One instance had a blood tec come in and take blood from her pic line whIle she slept. This woke her up and made her feel extremely uncomfortable. Here I might say that if I could give St Mikes a 0 star review I would. However, the one major saving grace to the hospital is that the vast majority of doctors we've experienced have been incredibly helpful and superb at their jobs. They are constantly going out of their way to get the best possible care.for my wife and have gone as far as to order specialized drugs in from Belgium to be used after other keds stopped working. That and some of the nurses in a ward we were on previously who were lovely people through and through save St Mikes in the smallest bit That being said, if you have the choice, dont come to St Mikes. It's not worth an extended stay and even a short term visit will leave you feeling grimy.

Michael Ryan

My niece was born here and was premature, the staff were not helpful and were in a hurry to discharge the mother and baby. My niece had to be readmitted a day later at another hospital. Do not have a baby here.

Frank Duan

Horrible experience in the dirty old hospital. They assigned a student do the eye surgery to me without any other experts on the spot. The result was very bad, i almost loose my eye! The doctor overthere is very rude, no patience, not professional at all. Remember do not touch their eye doctor in the hospital, that will save your eyes.

JASON MERLING

St Mikes is the best hospital in Toronto staff and doctors are attentive as possible I try to insist on being at this hospital rather than the others here in Toronto

Anastasiya Kryvoho

Have been here 3 times in my life. Waiting time has been 6-8 hours, All hose 3 times. Nurses did their job fine. But honestly I'd rather spend a little bit of time getting to a different hospital.

Amish Patel

I called in today to inform that our family doctor is not available and we have an appointment booked with the hospital at end of May. It's an emergency as my wife needs some assistance. The lady at the reception started explaining why she cannot see us. I requested this is our first time and we would appreciate if you can help. once again she started wasting time and said go to emergency. Asked her what emergency? she said any emergency. Requested again to explain what any emergency mean and she once again started telling me their hospital policies. Does she not understand that when one is panicking and asking for help she needs to be more precise and could tell me that we can visit St. Michael's hospital and go to emergency. She needs to be trained.

Junyoung Yang

In May 2018 I got a big stroke. Head surgeon was Dr.Cusimano and he is phenomenal. Thank you for saving my life. For all the doctors, nurses, and staff... Thank you.

Amanda Dhanna

I recently had a Gastroscopy procedure here by Dr. Kortan. Excellent medical care! He is amazing! So happy he was my DR

Marianne Langford

Emergency nurses and doctors were efficient and kind. We were in at midnight and out by 3. Soon to be healthy. Thank you.

Claire C

There is no words that can describe how unsatisfy the experience has been. Unless you have a severe obvious broken arm or leg or just somewhere massively covered with blood, then come, or else go to any other hospitals and I’m sure you’ll be treated a thousand times better than this. The staff was awfully rude and impatient while me and my partner have been waiting for 5 hours just to get a blood test. I personally went to other hospital before, and it only took me 2 hours in total to get a thorough check up and also I got a blood test. While waiting for the result, three different staffs came in and told us to wait for the blood, urine and the schedule result. None of them came, in fact they asked us to move and wait in another room. Seeing all these staffs chatting and not doing anything just really bothers me, what triggers me the most is that they don’t respect their patients and most importantly they don’t treat every patients as equal as others.

Taaliah Charlton

Unlike smaller hospitals, the nurses here are great & very friendly. Love the nurses on 14!

Malik Wynter

I have been sitting in the emergency room for roughly 7 hours due to side effects from the medication the doctor had prescribed me on Wednesday. When inquiring about how much longer for wait time, i am constantly silenced with "sit down it's your turn next". The robots working in Triage need to be trained on how to deal with people properly and accordingly. I refuse to ever comeback to this place again.

Bailey Gee Poetry

I was seen in the ER while in distress, very depressed and very suicidal. I had made this all clear to the doctor I saw, Dr. Salama, the psychiatrist. She had absolutely terrible bedside manner and was incredibly rude. I had made my suicidal thoughts and intentions known to her and the team in MHESA frequently. I was brushed off and told that I was not going to be admitted because "of all my previous admissions" and she "didn't see it beneficial to me''. So she sent me home knowing I was suicidal. I came to the hospital for help and hot nothing but trouble from this doctor and the team in MHESA. I'm disgusted and hesitant to ever return to the hospital again

Parvinder Singh

Downtown hospital therefore busy. Great place to work.

Ecaterina cK

It's a really good hospital for cardiac care. I've had pleasure working here both as a student and staff.

Kasthuran Thuraiveerasingam

This hospital awesome. Only night time crew little bit lazy. Otherwise service, treatment are very fast. The way they care the patient very nice.

Debbie McGillen

My husband had few surgery at the hospital last one done in December by Dr Sarah Moore for a stomach fistula she was true caring doctor thanks for Dr Anderson getting the problem fixed by surgery Dept. Also I just one to point out my son was in hospital at st Michael's for 18 years of his life off and on he had Crohn's disease taken very good care by nurse and doctors

The hospital is good but ER really sucks , some of the senior doctors need to visit there ER as patients and see what other people go through, the screening is super fast but the blue zone is like a tim Horton’s people seriously you need to overhaul your er please , writing this when it’s been more than two hours waiting and a lady who just had a miscarriage has been waiting with me too, sad SMH

vinush mascarenhas

Horrible baby ward. The nurses gave my wife and I enough troubles. We wanted to get out of this hospital as soon as possible.

Pin S

Excellent hospital. My dad had to go there in emergency for his heart and they took care of him in a timely manner. Doctors, nurses and front staff are very friendly. Parking is a problem and that is only thing.

Brenda Céspedes

Always long wait times! Minimum 4 hours in emergency before being attended to by a practitioner.

I had a good experience with St. Michael Hospital.I was admitted there for a surgery and everything went well and I only have good things to say about this Hospital!

Absolutely the worst hospital in downtown Toronto - COVID clinician is incompetent and the staff who called my GF was communicating misinformation (the staff told her that she did not have to retest if no symptoms - note: my GF had an indeterminate COVID result). What a joke - I don't need to be a doctor to know that recommendation makes zero sense. Not surprised, 3 days later, my GF got another call from a Communicable Disease Investigator at Toronto Public Health telling her to get retested immediately and what was communicated by the staff at St Michaels was FALSE. Please, do yourself a big favour and avoid St. Michaels at all costs. They are beyond incompetent.

Renato Camilio

First time in the emergency room, truly appreciate the nurses and doctors taking care of everyone’s cases — Mid COVID and the staff made me feel taken care off. Thank you for being there for me, and for all of us! ♥️

sanbir sandhu

Worst place I've ever been. On weekends you are on mercy of nurses who don't give a damn. No doctors are available on weekends. Only residents who know nothing. Very rude staff. Careless doctors. My mom suffered stroke due to their negligence. I suggest no one should come here. Don't risk your life.

Gavin Boodhoo

Waiting 3 hrs and asked 4 times for a nurse, laying in recovery room, very low blood pressure, and they disconnected my iv fluids.... I might die here tonight, this is criminal negligence

Sarah Leaver

Registration staff especially the young black guy with the pedo mustache seems calcified, combative to a person that has just popped their knee outta place. For the most part the place is full of homeless ppl with mental and substance abuse disorders, I wonder if that's why so many of the staff act and look miserable. The Dr was cool and the Trini nurse that brought me a knee brace was a sweetheart. Overall my experience at the emerg was that it is the worst hospital I've been to in the GTA. St. Mike's either train your registration staff to act with compassion or hire compassionate ppl, not abrasive, calcified, disconnected robots with absolutely no desire to help and lacking compassion!

Arnab Chakraborty

A very bad experience. An appointment was booked for a biopsy . I was advised to report to the St Michaels hospital Queens Street Entrance @8:15 am for a 8:30am appointment. Unfortunately I am still waiting at 9:31am for the procedure to get done . I was informed that things will need more time than usual as the doctor got tied up. Now the biggest question -why do we book an appointment? I have seen this before and now again. I don’t understand why St Michaels Hospital thinks that the patient’s time is not valuable . A very poor service culture. Sincerely thinking to change my health service provider.

Kholoud Elsafy

Best hospital with best doctors ,nurses and social workers! Very helpful and friendly and professional. I will give birth there and am very comfort with that.

Flower Planet

One of the best hospital in the world, with highly sophisticated doctors, staffs

Inna

I had a day surgery at St. Michael's yesterday, Jan 28, 2019. Operated by Dr. Mocarski. I would like to say, this was a very very good experience. All the staff, nurses, anesthesiologist and, of course, the doctor were extremely nice, supportive, and professional. Every step was explained to me and everything was as painless as possible. Thank you so much!

St. Michaels emerge is absolutely terrible.. I ended up leaving because I was so uncomfortable there. Upon arriving I went to take a urine sample and had security knock aggressively and yell is anyone in there I responded various times but he proceeded to enter. When he saw me in there he screamed in my face in-front of the waiting room SPEAK UP. I was embarrassed and appalled at the aggression for simply using the restroom. Many people came into the waiting room aggressively yelling at other people the room was full of police who looked entertained rather than looking to ensure everyone’s wellbeing and safety. I felt so unsafe in the waiting room I asked what the wait times were like and the desk staff responded with why are you in a rush or something? I said no I just don’t feel safe over there. He told me to sit at other chairs. Security came over aggressively asking is there a reason why after you were specifically told to sit over there you’re sitting here? I said I didn’t feel safe and they told me I could sit here. He responded with I’m watching from behind the (bullet proof) glass you’re fine get up please and move. I was completely out of the way and felt much safer. At that point I had been there for hours and they said it would be hours longer despite not seeing anyone coming in after me.. the waiting room was basically empty at this point. I had also submitted a urine sample that was all blood. Nobody seemed to care about your health or safety. I just felt like the biggest burden in the world for simply trying to take care of myself in an severe health circumstance. Please go to Toronto general hospital so you can be treated with respect and good care rather than humiliated, yelled at and ignored.

I am a little concerned about the postpartum care my wife has been receiving at the Postpartum unit at St Michaels. We had a high risk SGA baby delivered by C-section at 7.11 pm on Dec 22nd. Our baby has been in the NICU ever since due to low blood glucose levels ever since birth. My wife and I have had little or no skin to skin time with our baby. We were under the impression that C-section birthing mothers are allowed atleast 48 hours postpartum medical care, but we were told this morning, 24th Dec at 10.15 am that we WILL be discharged by 4 pm the same day. We can visit the baby whenever we wished but we could not stay in the postpartum room any longer. This has been a very stressful birthing experience and is something we had not expected at St Michaels (especially reading all the wonderful reviews online).

Neisha Maynard

My son was transferred to St. Michael’s when he was a couple days old as he was premature. The NICU staff were very accommodating and I felt my son was well taken care of those weeks he was in hospital. I always visit the hospital when I am in Toronto to say hi.

Nic Weber

Very efficient MRI appointment. It’s definitely a “no frills” experience if you’re used to high-end foreign hospitals. But they have lockers and updated equipment and decent security protocols. Only thing they could improve is the general welcoming and customer service experience. The guy welcoming just said asked for information before providing any pleasantries. Some patients might like this barebones efficient customer interaction, but I think they could add a little flair if they tried.

Ruwanmali Prematilake

I had to under go a histerctomy and was warded in the hospital. Dr who operated me and the operation was great but the staff in the ward I was in were unbelivably unprofessional and rude. I was throwing out after the operation due to excessive mophine (I was told) and the nurse did not even want to come closer to me or help me to change and I was dirty till the visiting hours and my husband had to come and wash and clean me. The second day when I asked for a change of towel because I felt squeemish as I was throwing out to use the same towel and the nurse rudely told me NO and asked me WHETHER I CHANGE THE TOWELS AND BED SHEETS DAILY IN MY HOUSE. I had to remind her that my insurance is paying the hospital to keep me clean and comforatable after an operation and I work very hard to earn that. I cried the whole time not because of pain of the operation but because of the inslut.

Knowledge, skill, and compassion. They make difficult procedures easier by their insightful and caring ways. Highly recommended

This place is a joke waited 3 hours for an appointment at 10:20 then she tells me I am supposed to check in.been here all week with out checking in...poorly run hospital

I dropped by the Emergency before my appointment with a doctor at this hospital and I saw how the nurses in this department lacked training in mental health I had to get out of my way to assist someone before a nurse did at one point. Other than the ER the rest of the hospital is absolutely fine and the doctors are great and qualified.

Vitamin House

Very Nasty hospital!! The waiting room was dirty. Went to the emergency room at 8:47pm, I wasn't seen by a nurse until 12:46am in pain. The nurses there has attitudes and had no concern about my health needs. One nurse had to take blood and didn't have any idea what she was doing. The nurse hurt my hand so bad, I still feel the pain from the needle. The confidentiality there is thrown out of the window. Almost everyone knows what's going on with you. I had a very bad experience at St. Mike's. I will NOT recommend this hospital to anyone.

Linda

I've been going here for 14 years because I have multiple sclerosis and the staff is awesome. Also my neurologist is the best.

Tom

Dr. Earl bogusz is the best doctor around Aka Earl the Pearl he did a great job on my knee.

Julie

Waited for over two hours in the ED Waiting Room, feeling extremely unwell and did not received any service from the doctor. I do not have that much time to be wasted! And if I die within one month because of heart attack, it is going to be your fault. I'm serious. Please do not waste your time and hope here.

Melanie Rodriguez

A great hospital with an amazing prenatal clinic and delivery team. Nurses and doctors were professional and kind. My doctor was Sari Kives - even though she was not working the days that I delivered birth, she stopped by to visit every day to make sure that the baby and I were okay. She is an incredible doctor! I highly recommend the maternity and prenatal units of this hospital.

ST TO (BG_007)

It could just be this experience that is this AWFUL amd hope that was just the case because by far the worst experience to have in the sense coming to a Hospital for a reason and you would think STAFF in such environment are alert, compassionate to extent, knowledgeable

Michael Marant

Went into the emergency on May 29,2014 It felt like something was pinching my nerves. The place was empty. I went to the first in take desk everything was cool waited 30 minutes went to the 2nd intake desk described my symptoms then waited an hour in the 2nd waiting room(the place is still empty only 2-3 people there including me). From there I get directed into a room in which I wait another 2 hours to see a doctor that never shows up instead a male nurse shows up tells me the doctors is over whelmed etc... He then tells me the doctor will be with me shortly Dr Rachel Anne Polly Never showed up instead she sends the same nurse in 'acting' like a doctor doing these simple tests that have nothing to do with my symptoms. Then proceeds to tell me that I'll be getting a call from a neurologist in the up coming weeks. I've been making call back with none of my voice mails being answered its now September 26 2014 and still NOTHING not a WORD from them on the the worst hospital staff/doctors in Toronto.

Greg Tippett

Been waiting for my "All IMG" Sleight center for neurology, retinal scans, and pathology. Also, a" T5 for ruling out a cancer I was diagnosed with a year later at another hospital "which turns put to be several misdiagnosis, thought the wait for each requisition was a 9 month wait every time, with apparent no cancellations. Though was declined when I arrived has led to serious due to the long waits for an appointment.now as the foreign object in my ear and the back part of my skull causing serious health concerns, with no "specialists/follow up, just effing run around. As I as a Canadian citizen being forced to pay out of pocket Since 16'. So figured Id book an appointment with the corner. Cheaper, less neglect and can actually get an answer of the damage done. At least my family will get closure on their "social experiment" at this hospital and HRH.

Chris Sherk

If you have a disability that prevents mask use they will make you wait outside the hospital or in the ambulance garage for care.

Yen wong

Agreed with the bad reviews! I just witnessed first hand the horrible service when I called in. I spoke with someone named Moral? at the main line. My husband called in to speak with his long lost son who was admitted but the man was absolutely rude. He showed no compassion which should be a requirement for hospital staff. At the time we were frantic to reach his son but the man spoke to us unwilling to help. Kept talking over us and spoke in a way I’ve never heard before. If you hold such a job don’t you want to help the families? We are worried sick and didn’t need to be spoken to so rudely. Long story short, in my 45 years in Canada ???????? never have I delt with such awful manner and lack of compassion in any hospital across Canada. Shame on you St Michaels! And shame on you “Moral”! I will call to the hospital again to speak with your supervisor. Someone like you should never work in a place where you handle people sick and in need of kindness! Shame on you!

henry coleman

Had spinal stenosis in the in the lower back the new wards looking great and function well nursing staff are excellent and the doctors very knowledgeable I am making a complete recovery????

Why is it so hard to get around this hospital? So many dead ends. I was walking along the read linr to the bond st wing and the door to continue on was locked. And it's not like it was an area for staff only either. Odd.

Tim Austin

As a British paramedic that undertook a shift with Toronto EMS in July 2016, I can say that this is quite possibly one of the best Trauma centres i have ever seen. you are all lucky to have this facility available to you. The paramedics are also on top of their game!

Eric DRAVEN

Came to the hospital because my dr suspected I may need emergency surgery to repair a hernia. Today's visit is just am example of why I avoid this hospital as much as I can. Dr who saw me ordered a CT scan...great...didn't mention anything about flushing out my colon. Nurse shows up with some bottle and gives me instructions on how to use it. I said that I wanted to speak to.the dr about this. I explain why I'm not comfortable doing this ...next thing I hear as the dr and nurse walking away is they are laughing and I'm like are they seriously laughing at me? Finally after 4.5 hrs of waiting I get told to.drink some liquid and that I am.going for my CT scan . Get escorted up only to hear that i need to wait an hour and a half for the dye to set in before they can do my CT scan. Are you kidding me??? How did they not know this? I get it there are more serious cases then me but FML. Oh and did I mention that not once was I offered even tylenol for pain relief.

Luna Liu (Lunaismoon)

Very Clean, organized hospital for vaccination!

my father went in for a routine surgery a couple of months ago. he ended up having multiple strokes during it, we never got a clear answer as to why. i get it mistakes happen, that is not why i’m giving the bad review. this review is solely based on two things: an ICU nurse named Oksana and the PSWs working in the ward. Oksana was hurtful, rude and uncaring. my father was in the ICU for about a week. this was extremely scary for us, she showed zero compassion, and actually told us he was a “keeper” in there. she acted as if she was a doctor herself, talking over us and giving us her personal opinion on things. she told me to reach out to the supervising doctor to get a family meeting set up, but wouldn’t tell us why. it freaked me out, and when i brought it up to the doctor she had no idea what i was talking about. needless to say it was just fear mongering. the PSWs were also not prepared to handle the intricacies of the breathing tubes, etc that many of the people in the ward used. i liked the doctors however Oksana made this already horrible time in my life 100% worse.

We frequent the eye clinic at St Mikes. This time we had a schedule change and they were able to find us an appointment with another Doctor. The adminstrator was so helpful as I had taken a day off work to bring my blind husband for his appointment. He was extremely helpful, friendly and professional All the staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable. Thanks so much Jackie and David katari

The new design seems to be a little too complicated, especially if you are there for the medical care and are on your own. Make sure you call ahead and note as much as you can regarding where the main entrance is, as well as the Security Services for the Emergency Dept, etc. Be informed and proactive about your visit and if the answers to your questions are not adequate, ask for the Supervisor to attend, and then begin the process of taking written notes. Date, time and location for starters. Names of the people who you spoke with and there position or job title. While you may want to just pull out your cellphone and openly record everything most facilities warn everyone that cellphone recording is prohibited to protect the Privacy of the other patients, staff and visitors. However, I take the position that I have the right to protect myself and my routine is to use my cellphone to record my entire visit with the understanding that the only thing that would be stored in the memory for later use, would be incidents that pertains to the safety and security and well-being of myself. All other data would be sanitized to safe guard the privacy of the facility, its staff, and guests. My statements are in regards to what actions I may take and are not to be repeated by anyone, and I advise you to always consult with a lawyer when you come across any suggestions or situations where there are legal consequences involved. dn

I have two experiences to share about St. Mike's. First: I went here for thyroid biopsies. My initial impression was that this department was grubby and old, not the kind of facility you would expect in a first world country. I was supposed to have 8 taken, but the doctor who did the procedure was so rough, I was in so much pain i had to ask him to stop. Later I went to another hospital for this annual procedure and the experience was like night and day. The next doctor to do this procedure for me was gentle and also gave me anaesthetic to help with the pain. I felt nothing, unlike my experience at St. Mike's. Second: I had to take my husband here for a detached retina (actually this happened twice, one eye after the other). The experience was effective and they saved his sight and repaired the damage, but the process is long and drawn out. I don't mind the long drawn out process if they would at least communicate what the process is so you know what to expect. We went there every day for checks, photos and more laser until everything looked OK, this took about10 days of almost daily visits, daily parking expenses and daily drives from out of town. All in all we spent over 300 in parking and approx 4-6 hours each day including travel time. Surely there's a better system, you arrive and even if you're on time or early, you sit for quite a while, then go to one room for one procedure then are given a document to go to another room/procedure and so on with lengthy waits in between. This whole system seems like it could easily be streamlined by using a scheduling program. Every patient seems just as confused as we were and sit in the waiting room asking each other what to expect. Some of the doctors have much better bedside manner than others, some days my husband looked and felt like he'd been in a boxing match, when other times he'd had a different doc doing the same treatment who was far gentler with his eyeballs. I'm happy that his eyes are fixed, but I'm not happy that i had to take almost 3 weeks off work (twice) to escort him and was unable to plan my work absences in advance due to such poor communication - even a leaflet or a poster in the clinic wold have helped but all there was was a sign at the reception saying appointments can take 2-4 hrs.

As a teaching hospital, I was not expecting such a poor experience delivering my baby there on Aug. 14th, 2017. The doctor in staff stuck her gnarly fingers up me scratching me and made me bleed. Although I realize they had 10 other babies to deliver that night, they didnt check on me enough and I could have had my baby sooner but since baby and I were stable and being monitored they just left us to wait unnecessarily when I was fully dilated for hours. They should have practices in place to handle a high volume of patients. The nurse and doctors left my husband and I alone several times during my active labour leaving me to push alone! Then the nurses were very rough with me when pushing out the placenta and making sure everything was out. The lactation consultant compared breastfeeding to "milking a cow" and just grabbed my boob and threw the baby on and left. After leaving the hospital, I proceeded to have infected stitches which I anticipated as the student was rough and was cleaning out my canal like a shipping deck. Then I got a UTI from catheter damage as the nurse was so rough inserting the catheter. As for my regular OB appt's throughout my pregnancy, I always had to wait a good 1-2 hrs for Dr. Robertson to see me for 5 min. For an uncomplicated low risk pregnancy, I do not see the point of appt's every week. There should be an opt out option. I definitely won't be returning to St. Mike's for any treatment and will be using a midwife next time.

Good treatment and doctors. Terrible Or non existing follow up. My Broken hand follow up keeps getting delayed from initial 6 days and it's been 20 days now

Roisin Brannigan

The staff at St. Mike's are amazing. I have been attending clinic here for a few years and cannot speak anything but high praise for their adult CF team. My stays in hospital have been eased by the kindness of all their staff. Fantastic nurses in respirology and the ER. The building needs some updates (slowly happening). The ER has been renovated and really reflects the innovation happening here.

Kamran Jafri

Terrible nurses in the ICU!!! Just went to the ICU to visit my cousin's dad who had a surgery. The attending immediately looked insensitive to the patient's feeling. My cousin tried telling the nurse to slow down and the nurse started to tell him to back off and let him do his job and that they don't take any negative opinions about them. That wasn't it, the nurse from the bed beside came up and called my cousin's dad lazy and started yelling in the ICU making a whole big scene. I have never had such an experience at a hospital where the nurses talked back to the family members like this. Horrible experience, please go anywhere else you can.

Nika Stelman

We delivered our baby at St.Mike’s last week and we are so thankful that we did. There was a bit of a complication in our delivery and the St. Mike’s Labour and Delivery team took incredible care of us, worked as a team, delivered a healthy baby, and then supported us post delivery. We can’t thank everyone there enough for all their amazing care!

Marina

Great staff and great doctors. The wait time isn’t that horrible as well. Went there on a Sunday morning

Sarah Gaumond

My youngest sister was born here in 1984, September 16th. She WAS a twin, sadly our mother had an emergency C-section and was told only 1 baby was there that they had mistaken her pregnancy for twins etc... Mom and Dad went home feeling a loss of a child. They thought it had been a boy. It was actually a girl. Years later a lot of pieces started Adding up and it is true. My sister, my sisters twin, was taken by a Dr and sold. There had been a lot of this happening in the 80s a d sadly it hit our family. I am searching for her. I will not stop till I find her! I want to know our sister! I need to know her! Amy help would be very much appreciated Xo

What? Cats!

Always a great experience. Such hard working nurses. Goodhearted doctors. <3 thank you for all you do.

Karishma Sinha

Great medical centre. Very upscale facilities. Their commitment to technology and innovation is nice ????. Hopefully they get back on a basic research question that I’d shared about real change for old community.

S MC

My mother entered the palliative ward under the promise she would face life’s end with comfort, care and dignity. The opposite was true. The first day the nurses had confused her orders and failed to provide the means for her to be …

Richard Moore

Dr. Altomare is a miracle worker, in my option, the best in the country and maybe the world!

Holly Guindon

I had an excellent experience at St. Michael's hospital today. Every single staff member who I encountered was pleasant and helpful. I had day surgery (breast lumpectomy) and from check-in to check-out it was smooth and seamless. The nurses are attentive and caring and I didn't feel rushed out, plus everything they are doing is well communicated. I feel that this hospital is quite a bit better than others I've been to. Great job!

Anka Ng

Best hospital with best doctors, nurses as well as the workers! Yes, this is my feeling when I had my operation in there few years ago. Compare the feeling with the other hospital at downtown when my husband had operation there last year. I have to give St. Michael's Hospital a 5-star review to express my appreciation with the crew in this hospital.

Amanda Rose

If I could give 0 stars I would. I just contacted emergency with a simple question and just spoke to triage staff named Danielle. She was very rude, cut me off and would not let me speak to finish my question, told me she was too busy then I tried to explain and told her I felt that she wasn't listening and would not let me speak, she said she answered my question which she did not and I tried to explain what I was actually asking she continued to be very rude, cut me off then she HUNG up on me! My mother is very sick and I'm concerned it may be cancer and all I wanted to know was if they provide a test through emergency as if so I'd bring her there so it was simply yes or no. I'm so upset and offended by her rudeness and this should be dealt with through patient relations.

Chingo Bingo

Honestly the staff is terrible unless they are asian. Both waiting rooms are dirty and everytime i come here theres always a show.THE PEOPLE IN THE HOSPITAL DO NOT COMMUNICATE AT ALL.YOU WILL BE EXPLAINING YOUR ISSUE ATLEAST 3 TIMES TO A NEW PERSON. Gunshot victims,gangsters....staph infection ok they got all types of patients down here LOL. No matter what you do,expect 5 hours unless escort by ambulance truck. Under 5 hours is not possible even if your the only one in the waiting room.

Robert C

Nurses spend time gossiping about what happened last Friday rather than do what their paid to do. Doctor does his job well but the wait is incredibly long, understandable. You just gotta wait even if you’re hurt. They need to take care of the people who got too turnt up on a Tuesday.

Andrea Henderson

Dr Das is a neurologist that works at this hospital and is the friendliest, most knowledgable Dr. I have ever met.

Rinn Borutski

I just had my left knee replaced by Dr. James P. Waddell. He did my right knee 2 years ago. I have been in other hospitals for surgeries. While I rec'd excellent care at those ones, St. Mike's goes above and beyond in patient care. From my surgeons, other doctors on my team to the critical care nurses, everyone is positive and caring. They are on top of your pain almost before you are. Everyone has a smile and a " lets get you up and moving and home where you want to be. Hopefully there are no more replacement surgeries for me but if so I will definitely go back to St. Mike's .

Tessa Ward

Thanks for your help today. Went to ER who told me I did not actually have an emergency. Sent me to a local Patient Networks clinic and they were very helpful. Saved me 5 hours of waiting.

Natasha Persad

They get a 0 because of my last visit. Nasty male nurse and nasty doctor. Paramedics even left me which had never happened before. All previous visits were great but that last one turned me from that ER forever. I thought I was going to die that day with either a kidney stone or endometriosis pain. My pain meds including hydromorphone was not staying down and ended up calling the ambulance. Left me out in an empty ER for over 2 hours bawling in excruciating pain. The nasty male nurse came got me and I could hardly move and just exhausted from the pain, vomiting, bawling etc. I asked why they took so long coz now the ER is full and people who came after me and could walk were taken in before me. He was rude and took me in the room. Dropped the change of clothes on me and when I tried asking for help coz I couldn't do it, he just walk out. I never got changed, no usual x-rays etc. Just gave me morphine and released me when it let up. The doctor came in and was shushing me for crying and asking how they left me out there for so long with no voice. He was nasty. I got the records after and they said that I was belligerent in the report when all I was asking is why I was out there for so long screaming in pain and people got in after me who were in better condition coz they could walk. I did not even curse. All I know is that I believe in karma and they will get their taste one day. I have had to go to the ER after and chose others further away just not to have to go there and be treated so nasty. Just was not my day even with the paramedics.

Mark Magee

If you are a visitor to Canada avoid this Hospital at all costs. Its chaotic and disorganised. You will probably leave worse than you arrived, mentally and physically.

Mark O'Dowd

Great experience at the hospital for a birth but staff obviously sold our contact information to Knowledge First Financial as I was getting calls from them to sign up for their scam RESP account within days of the birth.

Lioubov Silaeva terr

A poor joke for an Emergency. I came in yesterday to seek urgent care. I am 35 weeks pregnant, my leg under right knee swell overnight, was red and burning, extremely painful for me to walk on. I spent 5 hours a the hospital, only seeing the doctor for less than 7 minutes. The rest was wait time. I was told that I need an ultrasound for a blood clot, which the doctor has ordered. After 5 hours no word on when my ultrasound would happen or how long the results will take afterwards. The doctor/assisting staff offered no information or assistance. I ended up leaving without any treatment, since I was exhausted, with no food or water all this time. A huge thank you to the doctor, the ultrasound department and St Michael's Emergency!!!! You've been the most caring of all.

Joanna Azzopardi

I found st mikes a great caring hospital. They r busy at times but they dont forget u . They get to youn as soon as possible the care is excellent. You can count on being looked after there.

I just had my knee replaced on April 2nd 2019. Dr. Atrey and the staff were amazing to me. The nurses are top notch and know what they are doing ! A big shout out to Travis on the 9th floor, and ALL the people who took such fabulous care of me. You all rock ????

Kaylin Bean

Great staff. I couldn’t tolerant that. It’s a pretty scary place. There was a huge dried blood stain next to the intake station. This scary lady tried to pretend she was me when my name was called.

Russell Kalman

St mike's is HORRIBLE. I waited 5 hours for an x-ray and they let me fall asleep with a head injury. I guess medical school didn't teach them that people with head injuries that fall asleep can bleed out in their brain and die. If you try and raise a concern with the staff (Dr Polly) they illegally try and discharge you without treatment. The staff are very rude and do absolutely nothing but try and start problems and escalate things for the worst. Perhaps all of us need to contact each other and divide up a lawsuit cost.

Relina Langridge

The hospital called me, didn't leave a message. I call back the lady couldn't help or tell me why they called me, said they would call me back. I haven't been to this hospital in over 2 years. Now I'm freaking out wondering why they called me, next time leave a message.

J March

Terrible 10 days of agonizing pain. Nurse told me I was being ‘annoying’ when I was screaming in agonizing pain. 2 nurses helped me while I was there. Did all they could do. The others just did not care. Did not have a shower, bed sheets always full of sweat never changed. I will never go here again.

Ken Roh

Our son was born this morning at St michaels and I can't say enough great things. The nurses and doctors there were all super supportive and had nothing but encouraging words. When things went sideways, they gave us clear explanations and explained the options available. Very happy with my experience.

Michael C

If I could give less than one star, I most certainly would. By far the worst ER experience to date. I have never had to wait this long even at William Osler BC hospital which is deemed the worst hospital in the GTA. We have been here for almost 24hrs and no adequate care. Waited 20hrs for an MRI which should have been ordered from the time of registration. Absolutely disgusting! Avoid this hospital at all costs folks!

Philip Belding

M between y name is Philip and I reside in St.Catharines and between 2013-2015 I have had two surgerys on my right eye and three major operations on my left ankle. of The level of care and the kindness of the staff was wonderful. We are so lucky to have this level of care for all in Ontario.I see well out of my eye and they saved my left foot.

Upside Carpentry

I've seen nothing but dedicated and compassionate staff. I was seen in very good time for a hospital. People need to stop complaining about how long it takes to be seen. There are constantly patients coming in and it's impossible to to see anyone right away. I can't say enough about the people here. They deserve more appriciation for the difficult job they do.

Fourth Lane

St Micheals Toronto Emergency Triage is one of the worst places to find oneself when you are sick and in need of help. We were repeatedly asked by the triage receptionist, 'Do you want to see a doctor 'YES OR NO' ? 'YES OR NO' Not one of those people we tried to talk to in triage in order to figure out if we were in the right location bothered to even read the referral given by our Ophthalmologist to see a specialist at the retina clinic for a detached retina. We were lucky that the specialist's secretary called to ascertain if we were on our way, None of the Triage staff could be bothered to take a look at this referral though we repeatedly tried to show it to them and explain the situation to them. The Triage staff at St Michael's hospital need to be better trained! Maybe think outside the BOX once in a while and learn the fine art of listening to the concern first prior to triaging patients.

Dan C

I had emergency heart surgery in August of 2019 and required subsequent follow up care over the course of the next year. Every step of the way has been nothing but wonderful. Doctors, nurses, assistants, specialists, support staff, receptionists from all areas have always been kind, patient, supportive and so caring. I cant thank this institution enough.

Gregg LaLiberte

Concerned with my pulse rate, my g.p. directed me to an emergency ward, but let me choose the hospital. Since my wife had received excellent care at St Mike's years before, I went there. I got an ECG, chest x-ray, CT scan and two sets of blood tests over a six-hour period before being released with no major issues found. The attending physician, nurses, technicians, and support staff were not only thoroughly professional, but compassionate and caring. Working in an emergency ward in the heart of a city of six million definitely demands a special attitude and this group really shone...Wonderful people!

Jozef J

Absolute garbage this facility. They absolutely 0 care about their patients, their health and inquiries.

anne campbell

My husband is currently a patient at St. Michael’s Hospital. He was operated on by Dr. Spears for a brain tumour. We arrived at St Mike’s at noon on January 10, 2019. Of course we had to wait. It is a trauma hospital. He had 4 CT scans , a chest X Ray , an MRI and was operated on , on Wednesday Jan 16. I, personally, have been a patient at 4 hospitals in Toronto. This is by far the best. The staff of St Mike’s has been fabulous. The hospital is very clean. We could not have asked for more. Thank you for being there for us at a very difficult time.

Peri Winkletts

Worst Mental health care in Toronto. You're treated like an animal, the doctor doesn't come to see you. Objections to drugs because of an allergy was completely ignored. One nurse came in and forced and injection. "You either take it willingly or I'll have to strap you down and force you to take it." Literally hell on earth.

Zonelle Woodward

Currently at St Michael's hospital recovering from surgery.. I would like to mention how professional, polite, and positive the staff are there. from the time I arrived I felt encouraged that my surgery would go well and it did.. special Thanks to Dr. Alysha Nensi and her surgical team..you are all a blessing from God.Thank you for everything.

Z

I dealt with the most Islamaphobic experience from this hospital. When I complained they did nothing about it. The same racist lady works there in the MRI secretary department and other Muslims are complaining too about the same recent experience. I was seeing other specialists here that are so dismissive. Never again garbage hospital incompetent drs. They delay you till your cancer spreads and your dead. Stay the heck away!

Sandy Zhen

Worst team of nurses. They are so ignorant and treat people with English difficulties so poorly.

Maureen Lynett

I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation 19 years ago at age 49. For 5 years, although I was seeing a highly recommended cardiologist, the medication I was prescribed did little to help me. I was a regular visitor to emergency because my heart would go into an irregular rhythm for hours. Finally I went to St. Michael's Arrhythmia Clinic where Dr. Mangat treated me. He was very kind, listened closely to my symptoms and immediately changed the medication and, as a result, my life. After the years of an inability to work, due to exhaustion and stress, I was once again able to continue my work as an artist, My only regret is that I didn't see him sooner. I cannot praise him enough. Four years ago the pharmaceutical company that makes the drug, that controls my particular heart condition, discontinued its production due to the relatively few patients that need it. This particular drug, which is a life saver, has no substitute so there were no other options for patients. St. Michael's, as well as other major hospitals, successfully pressured the company to reconsider the decision and provided us with the medication until it was again available at pharmacies. Finally a friend, who had recently been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, experienced the same difficulty getting it under control. I urged her not to wait as long as I did but to get an appointment at St. Michael's Arrhythmia Clinic as soon as possible. I have since received a very grateful note saying she took my advice and now has her life back. Thank you Dr. Mangat , the Arrhythmia Clinic and St. Michael's Hospital.

Evidence of conservative efforts to privatize OUR health care facilities is on display here. I was instructed by medical staff at Toronto Western Hospital that if my pain management plan didn't work that I should go to St Michael's because they have a urology department, which treats kidney stones.Unfortunately I had to avail myself of this advise three days later and after the medications via IV kicked in and I was feeling much better I asked the staff why the hospital couldn't treat the issue while I was there. The urology department was closed so I would have to go home and wait for the clinic there to call. I stated that the system was obviously broken if the treatment has a wait list of up to two weeks and it closes on the weekend. This upset the emergency ward nurses, I was told, so they (doctor and nurse) accused me of yelling at them which is code for "shut up" and that I should be grateful for the help they provided because I didn't have to pay for it. It occurred to me that the plethora of new urology clinics in Toronto may be why the hospital urology department is closed on weekends. Could it be that the "free" health care services competes with the private clinics and the government is saving money by keeping the service closed? The fact there is a wait list of two weeks clearly demonstrates the need for the urology department's services yet it is not meeting the demand and intentionally forcing desperate patients to the private sector. Yes it is intentional. To what level of service will we allow our health care system to sink before we say enough. Health care-in a TIMELY EFFECTIVE way is a right. I gave this place three stars because both doctors(one) and nurses(one) did the very minimum and less in terms of providing health care.Over the course of the 7 hrs I spent in their charge I saw the doctor twice for a total of 2.5 minutes and the nurse, approximately 6 minutes and this was an Emergency Ward where for some time I was the only patient there.

Abdulaziz Aladhadh

Very bad hospital in the world. They made my wait for more than 4 hours. It was emergency situations. I would like to give them 0 stars not 1.

John Ford

I am a big fan of St. Michael's Hospital. I had my heart surgery there. I walked into the Emergency Department complaining of chest pains, since I was not currently in pain I waited and read a newspaper. I was called in and spoke to a Doctor who admitted me for testing the next day. In the course of testing they discovered a blockage and inserted 2 stents, it has been 4 years and I am still as good as new. The thing I find humorous about my stay was the number of people trooping in with consent forms. St. Mike's is constantly pushing the boundaries of medical knowledge and you are assured of getting the latest treatments.

SARAH KABBANI

I mean there is COVID and the emergency room is extremely dirty, the floor is full of dirt, this place should be renovated, we had to wait three hours, and of course we did not see any doctor, the nurses won’t give any straight answer, we ended up leaving the hospital with no consultation because we couldn’t wait any longer.

Talal Katrji

I’m new in Canada , this is one of the worst hospitals I ever visited in my life , very rude nurses and staff , and the majesty doctor didn’t even see me after i spend few hours waiting for nothing! Will never come back here for sure ! Does anyone knows how can I report this hospital to ministry of health ?

Chris

My mother was admitted to St. Michaels a week and a half ago for a ruptured aneurysm. The trauma and neurosurgery team was amazing! By far the most caring nurses and doctors I have ever encountered. Thank you so much for saving my mothers life Dr. Cusimano! And thank for the amazing nursing team that looked after her. If your family member is critically ill this is the hospital hands down that should be tending to them! Everytime I called late night at or early in the morning they were extremely understanding and answered my questions thoroughly. St. Mikes HR team you guys are doing a great job hiring! Also to everyone reading this whose not a hospital staff. WEAR A MASK! Help these over-worked individuals!! Its the least you could do!!!

Toni Cheong

The security guard working here this evening on Sunday May 9th at approximately 7:30PM was extremely unprofessional and her behaviour was utterly unacceptable. She deliberately and aggressively bumped into my boyfriend for no apparent reason, when there was ample space for her to walk around him. Immediately after she proceeded to blatantly tell her fellow colleagues that they needed to “watch out for him.” The behaviour she displayed was discriminatory and will not be tolerated. My boyfriend was simply dropping off food to his father who is currently a patient, and he called to confirm that he was able to drop the food off prior to him arriving at the hospital. I do not know the name of the security guard but it was a female approximately 20-30 years of age who appeared to be Hispanic and had visible tattoos all over her arms. I highly doubt that random acts of intimidation and bullying is part of security protocol. This individual has clearly demonstrated anger/mental issues and is certainly not fit to be working in this environment alongside vulnerable people. What transpired this evening will NOT be tolerated under any circumstance. With that being said, I would like this matter looked into and resolved as soon as possible.

Kenny Desir

Laura in charge Nurse who works at St Mikes Emergency Acute is Merciless, lacks compassion, sarcastic, rude. Would not want her to be at my bedside no way shape or form.

Eva Akerman

What an absolutely horrendous hospital experience even before you walk through their doors. After you maneuver your way around the crack heads who crowd the Donnelly entrance you will be "greeted" by security guards who have a less than ambivalent regard for safety and wellness. You will not be properly screened for covid symptoms, nor will you be offered a fresh face mask which now seems to be protocol in other major Toronto hospitals. You will want to prepare yourself for your visit beforehand because gathering directions and help from the information desk is close to impossible as you will strain to hear and be heard over the commotion of the junkies who are permitted to wander the hallways freely. If you are female I highly advise you not to ride in the elevators unaccompanied. The building is run down and dumpy, and equipment is antiquated. Staff seem to be aware of the hospital's gross inadequacies, however highly desensitized, and I'm still not sure whether I should feel sympathy or distain. Anyone who works in such a miserable environment daily is surely unable to offer the level of empathy needed of the vulnerable.

Claire

Had a great experience with my thyroid biopsy. The ultrasound technician and the doctor could both tell I was nervous and made sure I understood the procedure while answering all my silly questions. They were lovely people and were able to calm me down. The procedure went smoothly and I think it had a lot to do with the professionalism and kindness I received. Thank you!

L D

Worst hospital I've ever been to. Homeless are treated like kings, I waited 12 hours for life threatening condition only to be moved from room to room...... while nurses watch netflix and take smoke breaks. Do not waste your time here

Daniele Heon

The X-ray technician at St-Mikes was fabulous. His ability to put my mother at ease by being kind, gentle, and informative inspired trust and made the whole experience a positive one. Thank you so much.

JEAN WALKER

Great hospital, amazing medical staff and security. Security was able to escort us where we needed to be. The staff in the hospital were extremely busy and still took the time to help our needs. They give amazing care to everyone.

Patricia Caruso

I was always treated very well when I had a surgery on my head of tumor ???? in 2012 years

dagmar reuter

Bedside phone not working, staff too busy to answer phones, staff too busy foe proper patient care, what happened to our excellent healthcare service? I live 3 hours away and I rely on staff to do basic hygiene care and the service is very poor, not blaming staff, they try do do their best After my review I got an email to go in touch with patient relation, I left two messages because you can’t talk to a person and they never had the decency to phone me back

.

ETA: This review is about my experience with their family practice. Received the worst health care from a nurse practitioner, Jean Wilson. Never listened to my concerns and treated me with antagonism the entire duration of being her patient. I initially assumed it was a personality trait and surmised that she had my best interest at heart but much to my horror, she went out of her way to warn other health care providers about me. Incredibly creepy and flabbergasting! I don't even know this woman, outside of being her patient, so it stuns me that she'd behave this way. It's no joke when minorities tell you about their experiences with health care providers. There is simply no way that all her other patients got/get this same treatment. No way. Still deal with issues stemming from a medication she prescribed which she hastily dismissed as a coincidence even though they literally only appeared once I started taking them.

Barbara Vale

This was an absolutely positive experience. My husband had eye surgery with Dr Berger. It could not have been better. Everyone on the team was kind and efficient. We feel very fortunate. They were the best.

First of all, a hospital must be clean and germ-free which this hospital doesn't have! You can see and smell dirt from the entrance. Secondly, it seems their equipment like CT-Scan device and other stuff are so old AND the person doing the CT-Scan is completely unqualified at all! I did CT in this hospital and it was so funny! I couldn't believe what I was watching! The doctor seemed to be ok but during his presentation of the CT result, he was looking at a very shiny white yellowish image! He said he can not see anything and probably you don't have any problem! I asked him could you show me the image and then realized he already put the image on his computer screen. I asked could you show me where is my ... in this image and he couldn't! Because the image was not clear AT ALL to let a doctor to figure out what's going on. I told him the lady in CT-scan section seems high And I think she got a picture from the wall or sth else. I was hoping the doctor is going to call or figure out what happened but HE DIDN'T CARE AT ALL! I believe there are some good doctors there but other stuff are not defined well! The director of this hospital should be an interesting person!

Shelly Grimes

I had a good experience overall here. The registration area is crowded and cramped for space and can be a bit intimidating but the people who got me set up were all very kind. I waited for about an hour there before being moved to the next room which was a nice, new private one where i received great attention from both the nurse and doctor on duty that evening. I had to wait in there between visits for a few hours for test results and prescriptions to get sent up but that is all understandable. I was really happy with how everything was handled and left feeling much better. Big thank you to Nicholle and Dr. Sinclair :)

Neil Rolland

I have had some negative health care experiences in Ontario but never at St Michael's hospital. After having both our children delivered here (three and a half years apart) the staff have been nothing short of amazing. Thanks to all the wonderful staff for making what can be an overwhelming experience wonderful.

Paul Blayney

They have allowed me to have a much better life. Great staff. A very caring place.

chinedu ndukwe

Wonderful staff, my baby is currently at the nicu and the nurses are so good ,friendly and very nice .Very good service I most say. Thank you ????

Stew Hex

Checked in for stomach pain. Staff was fast to see it was worce. Serjery happened to fix the problem. All nurces and staff was a+ there. I would have no issues going back ever.

February 4th 2021 at 9pm my friend gave birth to a baby girl at st.Michaels hospital. After so much struggles and pain she had to go through a c -section because they felt the babies heartbeat was low.anyways mom and baby are healthy.they got home feb 6th.now I had the time to call her and talk about her time at the hospital.as soon as I asked her she was crying so loud and telling me that she was traumatized about what happened to her during her delivery and how all the nurses treated her with zero humanity. I was so sad and upset hearing her story in detail. I’m going to take this to the media and expose everyone who was involved in this.because I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.my friend is still not recovered mentally. I would kindly ask whoever is In charge regarding this to look into it

melanie kostas

Extraordinary. Compassionate. Helpful. Clean. After having a very bad experience at another hospital in Toronto, this hospital made the difference that was needed.

Joan Nadon

Staff are awful and come across like they care more about themselves than the patients. There's a reason why the first thing you see is their sign that says "Verbal abuse will not be tolerated" it's because a majority of those that work in the Emergency are huge arrogant bastards...Go to a good hospital like North York General for God's sake, not here.

Sriranjini Devi

Some nurses are very rude.I was admitted for delivery.labour was induced night staff especially nurses were very rude. due to some medicine my body was itching i called the nurse and she asked me whether Iam your assistant.I was shocked i was too tired and in was in pain also since i was given epidural i couldnt walk .then i begged them to call my bystander who will be there outside just besides nurse room ,but she again said something rudely and left and whole night my cervix was checked by some resident doctors who couldnt find the dialation measurement correctly. Thankfully my a labour happened in the morning and I was saved by doctor Donna steele and Nurse Emily. It was not for these two people I would have definitely been taken to emergency.the whole night crew put me in so much pressure.they dint even let me sleep for 5 minutes.Later i understood I was made an object for resident doctors to study. The had to insert their hands many times to find my cervix . I shudder to think what my experience would have been had i delivered night.even some night staff was rude to my spouse.this happened just a few months ago. After delivery i was not given private room and shifted rooms 4 times.that is ok I could have tolerated .but night time staff behavior and callousness of resident doctors is scary

Waldo Smyth

When I broke my clavicle I was brought to St Michael's by the ambulance. It was my first time and I got a good impression about what is wrong in the Canadian health care system: I waited 8 hours - yes, eight! - in the emergency room and I was told there was no mass accident on the highway or any other disaster - just a regular day. Staff seemed stressed and not well coordinated. I had to repeat the same information several times. Later, I went to the their Fracture Clinic for aftercare. Again, they seemed badly organized and, even though I had an appointment, I had to wait about 1 hour. Despite having more appointments scheduled to check if my fracture healed properly, I did not return because I did not want to have that experience again. I would only go there again if I had no other choice.

M R

I was hospitalized here due to pneumonia and was pushed out the next day and put into their rotary area where I had to clean the bathroom myself because it was so disgusting. It also took them 12 hours to change the bedding. I'm now feeling worse than I did and tried to call them to ask what in should do and all I got was attitude from two separate nurses and then hung up on. This is what they do to someone that's barely hanging on and just make it worse. I will say that the emerg doctors and nurses were amazing and did a great job!!

K G

St Michele Hospital is not a safe place . They put people on research study do tests on people and do not provide them any test results. they steal your information for research studies. It is one month I have done a test but they do not provide me with result. definitely do not go there.

Delores Rependa

By far the best hospital I have been too in Toronto, the staff is so caring the doctors and nurses are definitely above and beyond, only thing was the triage nurse I didn't like her attitude towards not me but towards situations in general that u seen her address I don't understand why this nurse thinks she runs the hospital do your job mind your business that's what security is for ?

Wendy Bennett (Scoobydee)

Can't get in to see a family member for 7 days because they are a new patient there!!!!! Total bull!

yvonne aggabao

I was delivered my baby last Feb 20 2017 I'm not happy I have lasiration because no body is ther coz thy think 8cm a little far and no Dr. Do for me episiotomy the sutures was so bad. Im so Disappointed! I thought that is the best hospital her in Canada.

anas daoud

The worst hospital in all over canada, I can’t believe that I’ve been waiting for 5 hours to take 4 pills and 1 injection, all the emergency is running on 1 Dr. That’s he is already late by now “while I’m typing this over 40 minutes to his shift” THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE

Rick Petta

Very pleasant people wonderful success with both my operations there and found all the nursing staff quite personable special shout out to all the people on the ninth floor at Cardinal Carter

Steven Jeffrey

Dr. Fam, the Cath Lab team, and the CCU team were all excellent and caring. I wish to thank them and the EMS team for saving my life.

Farrah Zafar

nurses were super rude to my mother. i do not recommend.

waddup dup

Encountered very rude nurse. Very disappointed. She is in need of customer service training or better yet how to actually talk to a "human".

Meg Langdon

My husband had a cardiac bypass done by Dr Verma on Feb 3rd.Being unable to visit was difficult for our family but my phone calls were always answered promptly, and I always felt reassured after taking to your pleasant staff. My husband is sure he had the best care possibly and can’t compliment every member of staff enough. He says every person he met was knowledgeable and everyone went out of their way to meet any needs he had.Thank you all.

Ali B

So far one the worst hospital I ever been to don't even know where to start from staffs are really rude and always talk with really bad attitude and have really bad approache to patients specially Tina she calles her self ER superviser and as cleaning wise I would call it the dirtiest hospital In Ontario unfortunately I had to spend 14 days and let's not get there that I had to get surgery done there ended up cutting my nerve line in my arm by accident "I was told by my family doctor " anyways I totally don't recommend even passing by this hospital I'm sure there are really better hospital in Toronto than st michaels hospital Who ever is is running this hospital maybe they should know how the patients are getting treated Also just remember that they don't give the patients water at all those days I was there I had to get someone to bring me water from outside since they wouldn't give me water imagine you are on that much drugs and pain killer but no water wow unbelievable

Sarthak Kabra

Came to the Emergency department on Subday evening to report fever and chill. The only fastest thing was registration. The hospital has extremely long waiting time, I waited for more than 2 hours to meet a doctor. Is this for real? 2 hours and waiting. Very poor management and slow staff. I think the best option was to take medicine searching google rather than waiting in the hospital.

Elizabeth Baker

We had a great experience here with the birth of our first child. The labour and delivery nurses were exceptional. We will be coming back when we are ready for our second!

Candice Beaton

Called the breast centre to make a reappointment. Extremely rude and condescending receptionist. They asked what I needed an appointment for, and looking at my form I read "a mammography". Cue annoyed, patronizing tone: "You mean an ultrasound? You're 20 y.o right? You don't need a mammography". I confirm and she gives me a date + time. She hangs up without a goodbye. Only she didn't hang the phone properly with background noise still heard, so I waited 8 minutes before realizing that was the end of the call.

T M

There was a long line for the pre booked covid testing that wrapped around the corner. The security came around asking what time people had their appointments at and let the people at the end of the line go into the testing centre even when they were late to their appointments by 30 minutes to 1 hour. And more people keep arriving late to their pre booked appointment and the security guard lets them butt in front of the others even though there are people waiting longer.

Cara Cara

Impatient nurses and impatient system. I waited 7 hours and finally saw the ER doctor who later on asked a specialist doc to come see my situation. The specialist doc called another doc to see my situation. To my surprise, both doc couldn't identify my situation right and even questioned me for telling them what's going on with me. In the end, they only prescribed me 2 kinds of pain killers and scheduled me to their clinic 3 months later!! Within few days my situation became really bad that I had to go to ER again and the doc performed surgery immediately for me and I was hospitalized for 3 days. If you want your life, NEVER go to St. Michael's the doc there are useless!

reedy limbada

I went to the emergency department for mental health related issues. they told me "im making it up and to get a note explaining that i have an illness. they then went on to say that "its not their problem what happens to me". needless to say they made me feel worthless and i never want to ever go back to that hospital.

Kk Dave

The staff at your 15th floor was great ,my daughter was born June 26th, Dr. Yudin and his team were and are excellent, keep up

Romeo Ang

St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto is a top notch hospital with best doctors, nurses as well as polite staff. My family would like to especially thank Dr. Norman E. Marcon of the Division of Gastroenterology for the excellent medical procedure performed yesterday to my son Romeo Brett, Jr. He is the best doctor in this field. May God continue to mightily bless St. Michael’s Hospital so that it could continue to provide excellent health care services to as many sick people here in Ontario, Canada. Cheers!

Alexandra Highcrest

For over two weeks the kitchen has been in chaos, flooded floors, cave ins, no special diets, no hot food, massive food dumping (3 desserts with one meal), what a nightmare. Still here, can't wait to get out. I've had two long conversations with a dietician, nothing changed.

Miyako Samuels

Dr. Thomas Steeves has a receptionist that does not show the slightest compassion and was absolutely no help. She had called to confirm an appointment and I asked a question and she simply just said can i confirm this appointment or no? Totally disregarded my question and was simply rude. Her name was Barb.

Heidi

Poor treatment towards dedicated employees.

Bella Rigby

It's kinda making me give the hospital a star. This is one of the worst hospitals in Toronto. I sat in the hospital in so much pain and no one there seemed to care but cause me more pain. The nurses and drs treated me like caged monkey

D J

In August 2014 - Dr. Goodman was cordial and polite, the Asian doctor - indifferent, questioned a patients pain? First intake person great, next person to ask same questions - needs training; Nurse who took blood - had an attitude, says to the patient - patient actually keeps a track of where the spot for blood to be taken is - as some nurses just dig in and search endlessly pricking the patient, instead nurse yanks the patient's injured hand and says she knows how to take blood!! Emergency Room needs update - dirty and chaotic. How do they work in such terrible hospital quarters, is it even hygenic. Could have done an ultrasound for my area of pain, instead did an EGC, a blood test, took a chest xray, and sent the patient home with medication to follow up even though patient won't see my doctor in maybe 2 days, and get an ultrasound in 10 days. Terrible Ontario Health Services and wait times, at almost every hospital patient has been too. No Change to Services even though Government proclaims there are changes, or maybe it's just the hiring of the wrong people - who are there to make money and not for public service.

victom v

Race should not be an option to get proper health support. they neglect patients. call them to get my result they hang up the phone with no answer.

Victoria Persoglio

I’ve been waiting to be seen by a doctor for the last three hours at the eye clinic on the 8th floor. There are only six people sitting in the waiting room and considering I came for my appointment half an hour early I’m actually surprised they’ve been making my mother and I wait this long. After I was waiting for those three hours they tell me I have to wait until the clinic closes in order for my mother to get her surgery done. Also it takes me an hour and a half to get downtown, it is absolutely unacceptable. The receptionist working is rude and disgusting towards people who do not speak English as their first language. I would NOT recommend.

Zhanna W

My mom has been a patient at the St. Michael's Hospital Family Team for a few years now and her experience there has always been awful. The doctors do not seem to be interested in treating and curing their patients, but instead it seems to be more profitable to them to do surgeries as it pays more. The equipment at the hospital seems to be old and outdated. Appointment wait times and experience has also been negative. Overall, I would not recommend this hospital's care to anyone as they are incompetent and not interested in anyone's personal health.

kamyar motedayyen

We’ve been waiting in the Emergency for like 6 hours and still nothing. The personnel are very rude and uncooperative. This is probably the worst hospital if you are going for an emergency

Best hospital in Toronto. Great staff, quick emergency services, compassionate and knowledgeable doctors.

Great staff and awesome doctors, we are very happy with the service we got there

Was there for a week for heart surgery in Nov.of 2012 and I think they took great care of me. All my questions and concerns were looked after. The nurses and doctors were all great

I just called the lab at 30 bond street and there was this super rude lady on the phone at the lab. She kept saying bye and when I accidently got transferred to her again, because I thought I was calling another hospital's lab, she told me "don't call the switchboard again" like whats up with the attitude I just needed Clarity on testing

Went here for my second shot today. It was seamless, stress free and every one was super friendly. I think I walked in and had my shot in less than 5 mins. The longest part of the 15 min wait. Excellent work!

Well that's magical they lost my urine samples they wanted and need me to redo....ive been sitting here waiting for ultrasound for 1.5 hrs and the Tylenol promised 1.5 hrs ago I just had to reask I understand this is a city hospital.... but seriously .... get your act together. Up til 1.5 hrs ago all was going ok but then all of the above. So I guess I will just be more embarrassed and stressed cause I'm sitting here with 2 urine sample containers with people in front of me. The nurse just said u need to redo it and no appology... nothing....not even instructions on where to take the samples after i redo them. So maybe these will get lost too. Guess I'm expected to hold onto my pee bags in front of everyone... with labels identifying me ...yay such privacy as well! Thanks for making this experience so far one of the worst emergency room experiences I have ever had .... and embarrassing.... having to discuss my medical history in front of people waiting as well.... I thought there's laws to protect patient privacy as well. While waiting to see the doctor in the waiting room in emerg there was 2 guys who almost got in a fist fight over a cell phone making a beep sound. So it's been an adventure so far.

I had eye surgery here on Sept.25th.It was the worst experience of my life.Part way through the surgery the freezing in my eye gave out,so I had to tough it out for the duration of the surgery. When I got to recovery, the staff could not understand why my bloodpressure was 195/100 and I was sweating like a trooper in a cool room and vomiting.I had no idea how long I was in recovery, but it must have been close to closing time.We were basically told to get out.I was too sick for my wife to drive me home to Waterloo,so we had to get a hotel room, the whole ordeal cost us $300.We are seniors and this really hurts us.If there is ever an award for rudest staff ever in the recovery department, your hospital will win hands down. The real tragedy is that nothing will be done about this and nobody really cares.

As Powerful As God.... When nurses send patients to the assistance call buttons while nurses are trying to finish their personal conversations with each other - not a good floor (4th floor bond).

Ramy Saboungui

Best Hospital in the city. They really take good care of their patients (Orthopedics in my case).

Harjeet Sandhu

Thank you Dr. Whelan for repairing the rotatot cuff!! Could not have had better service and care anywhere else - best tesm !

It’s September 4th 2021- We came to the ER at 2 AM with a broken nose.My boyfriend couldn’t breathe properly because of it and was in tremendous pain but no nurse bothered to at least check up on him. And on top, there’s ONE Doctor in a freaking EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT! I’m writing this review at 4.40 AM. There’s still no one to see him. After asking them constantly about the docs, it’s the same answer(It’s a minor trauma dept and he will be available when he can). Shame on this Health care and shame on this hospital. PLEASE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL TO ANYONE.

Gillian Babington

Went in with my mom after she was badly bitten by a dog. She was promptly taken through and the ladies at the front were very quick and kind when dealing with her. She was seen by Dr Poley who was fantastic! Never been through emerg so quickly and all staff were polite and thorough. Super pleased with how well she was taken care of! Thanks St. Mikes!

Gloria Lambert

Loved staying here when I was a very sick patient. 6 Bond took amazing care of me .Thank You St.Michaels and all the stay including the custodians .

I delivered my child at St Michael's hospital a few years ago. I had a negative experience during my 3.5-day stay. The facility was old, dirty and cramped. No private rooms were available. Broken equipment in the bathroom made it difficult to take a shower. Tub in the delivery room was also out of service. The air in the postpartum room was hot and stale. The nurses were not supportive. They didn't show much care and compassion and disappeared for long stretches of time. They showed up to check the monitors and didn't do much more. My partner and I didn't feel I received the "compassionate care" that St Michael's advertised. The nurses were also rude and unprofessional, saying inappropriate comments to us. I never saw a lactation consultant while in the hospital - there wasn't one in the postpartum unit. It was a sad and stressful experience to bring my child into the world in this environment. I would not recommend the labour&delivery unit, unless patients have their own support such as a doula and lactation consultant. It makes me reconsider where I should give birth next time, because I don't want to go through this lack of care and professionalism again. My doctor dropped in on her way home to check on me during labour and nurses didn't even register she was in my room for a few minutes. I have no idea what they were doing, if they didn't even notice someone going into a delivery room.

Excellent medical care is provided at emergency. They are efficient and tend to patients much faster than other hospitals. All other emergencies should follow the same guidelines.

Sam Prewer

Absolutely disgusted with the lack of care provided to my father in law. He is visiting from Peru and had a health issue well out for a walk, through his travel insurance a doctor was sent to our home. The doctor determined he may have had a mini stroke, and advised h should go to hospital. The insurance company said we needed to go to St. Michael's even though we live in caledon. My wife took him there and sat for 4.5 hours in the ER. Many other people went through the doors with a major of them coming after him. They had no choice but to leave at 3:30 in the morning as he was having a hard time staying up and focused. I have no doubt he was treated this way because he was there on travel insurance. So disappointed with this as I am constantly talking about our great Healthcare in Canada. The insurance company will be getting a phone call and I truly hope they never send anyone back to this place again.

Tony

I prefer to go to this hospital because near my home and because in March they treated me well. Last night, however, something didn't go right. After the typical screen to understand if you have COVID-19 or not, despite having a blatant attack of gallstones, I am put in green code around 2 AM. They leave me sitting in a chair in the corridor for over half an hour; when finally someone notices my presence and perhaps compassionate me he sends me to a room, he tells me that he would come back immediately for analysis. Too bad I've never seen him again. Well, I am left in the small room from 2.30 AM until 5.45 AM, without having done a blood test or being visited by a doctor. Since no one took care of me at 5.45 AM, I ask to be able to go home, although I still feel bad. Obviously, in all these hours, I have seen several doctors and nurses go by, but nobody has deigned to visit me. I understand one thing, if you have different symptoms than COVID, you are not a patient who deserves attention. Good to know I'll treasure it.

Markus Waddy

DON'T GO THERE. The staff will treat you like an animal and you are supposed to be covered by OHIP because we pay high taxes for this. This Hospital staff think they are god and treat people with no respect!

Elisa Alexander

My 91 year old father has been here for 2 1/2 weeks. Although his care in the beginning was amazing at emergency and ICU, there have been alarming issues on the 9th Floor Trauma. We have brought them to the attention of patient services whose response is to talk to the nurse. Excuses are made for dirty discarded gloves found in his bed along with discarded wrappers from sterile equipment. No one to be found for long periods of time when he buzzes for assistance. Left in a hallway on 3rd floor for over an hour waiting to go back to his room, starts to go into shock - try to find assistance - again, no one to be found. It has been awful and no one seems to care. Keep getting passed off. One would think Patient Services would address your issues, but they leave it to you. Welcome to do it yourself health care. The surgeons and doctors perform miracles, but the after care support is not there. You shouldn't have to worry about your loved one when you can't be there.

Matt Li

Professional staff and courteous volunteers. Directed me to where I needed to go, and waited less than 10 minutes for my appointment. The staff member conducting my test answered all of my questions.

This is 1 of the best hospitals in Canada ????????and I have been to a lot of hospitals in my life. I have been to St Joseph health care center many times in the past and they are not even close to the professional manner this Hospital runs in, the nursing staff at St Mike's hospital are much better with sympathy and empathy in all their staff they do not make it like you are bothering them like there are to busy, like when you ask a question or need something like directions, new clean bedding etc a snack or drink etc like when I was in West Park health care center the low ratings on them doesn't really reflect how terrible that place was oh my God I'm so thankful to get out of there. But St Mike's is a very good hospital and my experience there was not so bad and I was there for a terrifying brain tumor 7.5 centimeters wide and 6.8 cm deep and starting to run down my neck Leaving me partially paralyzed on the left side of my body terrifying seizures that were focal and I would remember all the pain cramping . But St Mike's and there excellent staff and team assisted Dr Howard Ginsburg to removed my tumor and he tried to limit the scare as I am balding he spent ten hours in the operation room to remove it God bless him for his devotion to his patients

Had such a positive experience with Dr Wong and his staff/ eye clinic on floor 7-8. Everyone is so caring and you can see they are passionate about their jobs and do a thorough examination and tests. It’s my second time coming here and the feeling is still the same, this hospital is where you wanna be I can only speak on the eye section but I have no doubt the rest of the hospital is top notch as well.

I have been a patient here for years. The hospital is usually busy, and its older. I had a 2 night stay here after a surgery and the night nurses were the rudest individuals I've ever come across, they withheld my medication, called me names, laughed at me. To top it off forced me out of bed which I really tried and walked. Only to hear a nurse in a hall using my FULL NAME yelling and laughing with her co-workers. Shame on you. I hope that you first off, had consequences, and that you don't ever have to experience this.

Me and my wife would like to express our admiration to the neatness of services that was given to us at your hospital of St. Michael's. We were welcomed from the Emergency door with a Smile, Full attention, and Warmness by the Desk person or Nurse. We waited for less than Five minutes and we were called to the desk to do the chart for my wife. The Nurse who examined my wife was very professional, Caring, and a Nice person to talk to. The other person who called us into one of the rooms to wait there and see the doctor was a very nice guy as well. The Emergency Department Doctor which I believe his name spelling was Niran (if I am Not mistaking) was such a Nice doctor, very professional, very assuring and dedicated person to make his patients feel good and answer every single question by his patients. He referred us to the Ultrasound section in the Imaging Department upstairs. They did a Thorough and extensive Ultrasound for my wife which we have Not seen so far anywhere else whether in another hospital or a private X-Ray & Ultrasound clinic. We went downstairs again waiting for the Ultrasound results and were welcomed again by the same person who took us to the room first time to see the doctor and he was very nice and making sure that the doctor will come and see you very soon. The doctor (Dr. Niran) came back and was reading and discussing the Ultrasound report with us and was very clear in his explanations. He apologized to us for making us waiting in the Emergency Department. We left the hospital with a big smile and surprise on our faces and we were like was this a dream or what exactly was all that ?!. Coming from another city (city of Mississauga) and having a bad experience with the hospitals in Mississauga made us very pessimistic about the other hospitals too. I did my online research regarding Toronto's Hospitals reviews and found that the best reviews were belonging to St. Michael's Hospital so I decided to bring my wife to this hospital. We were more than happy with the quality of services, quality of the staff and their professionalism and the way they deal with people. Some people might think I am a dreamer or have a plenty of time to write all this or exaggerating in writing all these lines but I am Not. I decided to devote my time and write my Positive Review and to Thank everyone at St. Michael's Hospital. We are definitely Not going to another hospital in the future. Thank you so much and we wish you all the best.

Chekeria Chung

I had no idea that I could write a review until now (3 years later) but i'm blessed to say that my experience at St.Michael's is still one to be competed with. They were under-going renovations and still that did not stop the excellent care I received while being there. I had my son at this hospital and while in labor and follow up care they gave me the most rewarding experience. (The nurse- I cannot remember her name for the life of me!!!! I wish someone wrote it down because I have never met a nurse so perfect!!). Being a first time brand new to everything mom- I literally was NOT mentality prepared to have my son, also being in traffic in the middle of a snow storm in labour (at that point I was terrified) the nurse guided me through EVERYTHING the second I stepped foot into St.Michael's, it felt as if she was having the baby with me, and the doctor (Dr. Berger's) was also amazing, unfortunately my OBGYN was not the doctor on-call that night, however I would not change a thing, my birth experience was phenomenal and I would not change anything!

ON MAY 6 2014 I HAD EYE SURGERY DR. GIAVEDONI AND HIS STAFF WAS EXCELLENT IN THE CARE I RECEIVED I COULD NOT HAVE RECEIVED BETTER CARE DURING MY SURGERY THE HOSPITAL STAFF WAS EXCELLENT MANY THANKS TO ALL WHO WAS INVELVED IN MY CARE UNA BARTON

My experience is extremely frustrating with this place. I’ve been waiting for my appointment for about 6 months with the allergy department. I received a call saying it was rescheduled for march 1 . I can’t take any antibiotics and i have been desperately waiting for my appointments / tests . Something is definitely off and not right with these appointments !!!!!!!!

Martha Leung

My husband and I had our 2nd dose Pfizer vaccine this morning. We were 1/2 hour early and had our vaccines right away. Very courteous staff and professional. Thank you, everyone who were there working at the vaccination clinic this morning. Greatly appreciated ???? ????

Marina Dinaburgsky

By far this was the worst hospital I have ever attended The nurses and literally just sit there No one will go out of the way for you even if you immobile No one cleaned the bathroom for 2 days. I had to explain that it was a liability issue if I were to fall because I was walking down the hall to another Wing to use the bathroom because mine was unbearable The food is atrocious It's not nutritional at all if anything it's more damaging to your health When asking for alternative such as gluten-free /vegan they looked at me like I had three heads The hospital also send something to the ministry which had my license revoked I would have been able to understand if I was in the same condition I had entered the hospital But I was not. I was completely Mobile by the time I checked out and was moving a lot more than the nurses My own neurologist was in shock that this happened. The nurses are blank faced and desensitized to all situations. They will not help unless you're about to cause a scene. Otherwise you'll be lying there with a ringing Bell until your ears bleed. Also I found that I would be reminding them about medication rather than them just doing their job and being on schedule. My particular floor and unit was not busy. Also I had gone into an argument with the nurses about me wanting to take Natural melatonin as opposed to a sleeping pill. This boggles my mind till this day. Was it because they were unable to bill ohip for the medication? All in all I feel sorry for you if you have to be admitted into this particular Hospital

WORST place on earth. Takes an hour just to register. Nurses arguing with each other for more break. One doctor in the emergency room compared to 25+ patients. Made me wait for 4 hours before I had enough and went to Mt Sinai which took 30 minutes in a much more pleasant setting. Avoid St. Michaels at all cost. An update - Never received a single treatment from St. Michael's because of their horrendous inefficiency of making me wait for 4 hours to no avail. Now they are chasing me for a full payment. No shots received, no nurses/doctors seen except name registration and they are requesting I pay CAD900.... just speechless. Just wondering how low these people can get. lets just see.

Crystal McNeil

This hospital is one of the few in Toronto I trust with my family and my life. Dr. Latter saved my husbands life by repairing his mitral valve and the staff are amazing. I was admitted twice to Cardiology and the nurses are awesome the doctors are fantastic and the support staff are friendly. ER wait times are lengthy but the treatment and the care is totally worth it.

M abouyn

This hospital are full of racist doctors. Legal action has commenced against Gary May, Lawrence Rubin and Marc . B. Goldstein and the hospital as well. The widespread racism at this dirty hospital widespread toward Muslim. This lawsuit will be on media.

Laura Smith

I have always been impressed with St. Michaels, both as someone accompanying a patient, and now as a patient. All the staff I have encountered are very helpful. Both of my doctors at the hospital are wonderful. I have a complicated case, but it really helps to know that I'm in good hands.

Melanie Maaskant

It was terrible. I waited for four hours. Not too many doctors to looked after you. Their was too many people their were seen before me their had cold and flu.The staff was not very nice. When you try to find doctor.

Natasha Bissada

One of the worst hospitals I’ve ever been to. Nurses are extremely rude. They are not compassionate or kind to the sick and in pain. Doctors do not do their due diligence. I had to bring my mother in twice and they sent her home without helping her. I’ve never ever seen such disregard for patients. You’ll have better luck going to an emergency walk in. Don’t risk 8-12 hours of your health waiting at St. Mikes.

GOOGLE SAVE OUR PLANET

While we were trying to finding our friend with his wife together in this hospital, an old man was not find him and he was unfriendly to us than, we tried to look emergency than again the securty and the person who were sitting in the office looked our type that we did not born Toronto we could not speak English well enough they discriminate, the security and the officier they hate people especially if you did not born here. We saw her narcist face. Good blees I was not sick, If I am sick and should come this hospital like a scarry movie, I would better my selves die on the street insteat of coming this places. Why you hate us? We are human does not meter we did not born here, why you hate even people from England , even from Qebec. Forgive me yes , we did not born in Toronto sorry. Hospitalty is minus - 100 Being human should not be hard ? First they have to learn how to communucate with the people. Do they like their jops? Are they getting their hours money? Why they are so unfriendly and rude? At the other hand, Nurses and Doctors are awesome, they are professional and extremly friendly. This is reality I was manager back home that I managed 3000 employee and alot customer or patients If I see something that means I am sure. Thanks for reading and sorry to boder to write that I saw.

Anesti Dhimo

Had a cut in my eye. They took care of me in 20 minutes including registration and covid screening.

Sarah J.

Recently my immediate family was transferred to St Michaels hospital. I want to express my gratitude on the excellent job all the nurses did in the ICU. I can't express how awesome these people are. Thank you for taking such good care of all the patients.

Anthony Pereira

The lack of care, information, and overall negligence of some people working here is absolutely alarming, especially for labor and delivery. Unless you want to see your loved ones suffer for countless hours/days, steer clear of this hospital.

Lyndsy B

Great experience! I had never been in a hospital before , let alone an emerg for a medical issue and on a very busy Saturday night I was attended to quickly. I was only in the hospital for a mere 3 hours and was acknowledged and brought into a room quickly and with ease. The female doctor that I saw as well as another female were extremely friendly and professional.

chiara tolardo

After waiting more than 7 hrs to see a doctor I decided to leave - just to give an exact idea of what I am talking about I got in at 12:20AM -left at 7:45AM. Have been parked the whole night in an emergency department corridor without seeing a single soul walking in the department other than a couple of nurses. Was actually wondering if there were doctors working that night seems I haven’t seen a single one and haven’t figured it out. The 2 stars are only for the very first nurse who got the first check on me. This is very very very bad for a hospital in a city that is constantly expanding at crazy rates. Good luck to who decides to settle here for the next decades.

Jennifer

Dr Wilson is an amazing neurosurgeon, who repaired my ongoing back pain. He performed two spinal surgeries on me in the Fall of 2020, I have since fully recovered and cannot thank him enough. His entire team, including Tom Willis, were remarkable. Thank you!

Tami Hokij

Hands down the best hospital and emergency place that you receive care professionally ! Comparing North America’s hospitals St Michael’s is top 3 ranking !

Wallace Madill

Dr. Louis Giavedoni I'm so grateful for the excellent job you did on my eye.I was so fortunate to find you. My experience at St. Micheal's staff was top notch. Thanks again. Wallace Madill

The emergency department is in serious need of renovations. It's creepy and can barely fit the amount of people that walk in. Plus they have a big problem with people coming from off the streets and getting aggressive with people waiting to be seen by a doctor. I watched someone get harassed by a drunk person as security did nothing. No one should feel unsafe at a hospital when they are in need of care. There wasn't one moment where I felt safe in the emergency department. The doctors are good, I won't discredit that. They do the necessary steps to ensure you are okay. The doctor I had was very compassionate and understanding and checked everything thoroughly so koodos to him. It's too bad they are working in poor conditions, you could see the nurses get frustrated with the fact that there was limited space and tools to help them with patients.

Greice Monteiro

Both in the emergency service, in the MRI and Ear Nose and Throat sectors, the employees serve you badly, impatiently, bureaucratically, arrogantly and are rude. Of course there are rare employee exceptions and thank you very much to those few! You try to complain and they respond even worse, justifying their behavior with cynicism. I think it's the hospital culture, you have to be arrogant and impatient to work there. They really think they're doing you a favor. And they seem to hate working there and take out their frustrations on those in vulnerable situations. This is cowardice. A shame! I just want you to be treated the way you treat patients when you are patient. And maybe you will wake up. If they feel busy but seem to think that the rest of the world has a lot of free time and they are at your disposal and ready to be your punching bag.

Dylan G

My experience as a patient in the medical system dates to my first cancer diagnosis in the early eighties. I have many years from the receiving end of the machine and like most such I have my war stories, of horrible errors and sometimes great service above and beyond duty. Without exception my minutes of contact with Dr. Fong in the infectious disease unit left me stamped with the image of all that is wrong with our system. A man so attired in arrogance I have never met in medicine. Is not some human empathy and a respect for the patients own knowledge of factors of his case a requirement for definition as a "good physician"?

B. I.

Im reaching out to whom this may concern, my employee rushed himself into the emergency because he was experiencing symptoms of pain in his shoulder and arm at his home. When he arrived he was questioned what is going on with him, he told the nurse at that time he has pain from his left arm and also pain from his chest area. The nurse did her usual check and did some diagnoses and sent him to the waiting room..... WHY? why wasn't he looked further for his condition. They sent him to the waiting room where cuts and broken arms are waiting to be treated! WHY WASN'T HE FAST TRACKED TO THE APPROPRIATE ROOM??. He made it to the hospital and he wasn't cared for his condition which was a heart attack! he died right after his symptoms which was all under one hour. Im sadden for him and most saddened from a patient dying inside a hospital.

Nolan Blackmon

I had an accident while at work where I fell off a ladder and broke both my wrists. I was taken to this hospital and was here for over a week. I felt that they did a very good job. The nurses and other staff were always really nice to me. It was a bummer to have them come in every couple of hours to do tests and take blood, so sleeping was difficult, but that's not their fault. My only big issue is that communication was sometimes difficult with the doctors. There were so many involved, and being drugged up half the time, didn't fully understand everything that was going on and when I had questions, it was hard to get straight answers. But I am better now, so that's the biggest positive. Overall, I think they did a pretty good job.

Chistina Ng

Keith Nurse practitioner of mental health unit is unprofessional, rude, dismissive, and cold. To busy flirting and chatting with other co-workers, when they should be doing their job.

Jodi Curran

My brother received exceptional care in ICU. I'm forever grateful to your careandcompassion. Thank you.JodiCurran

If I could give a negative star I would. Appalling treatment. Basically told to contact my GP for followup. No tests done. Sent home and hung out to dry. This has been designated as a hospital to be dealing with possible Ebola outbreaks? God help us all.

!!!!!!!! BE AWARE PATIENTS !!!! This has to be the worst hospital in toronto. My wife is pregnant and shes been having to visit the hospital several times due to complication. The receptionist and the nurses have been extremely rude to her and is not considerate that she might be going through alot due to her pregnancy. The staff also looks at us differently because we are muslims and living in a multicultural city and country i never expected this from a hospital. Iam stuck coming to this hospital because it is the only one thats near by. But i will never come back to this hospital. Specially the maternity ward is the worst. Stay away.

Robin Gagan

I was really mad at them for cancelling heart surgeries. When I had my heart surgery done though, the nurses and doctors were great. Special thanks to Alok and Dr. Peterson

The heroes are not in the Hall of Justice anymore. The real heroes are in the hospitals. They save not just lives but hearts and smiles. Thank you to the team of St. Michael Hospital for your kind help yesterday in the emergency room. Thank you Dr. Natalie Wolpert, you are an amazing person, you helped me to walk through a very difficult day of frustration and pain. Thank you for taking care about my wounds and put a smile on my face. God bless you all, keep up the good work, my heroes ????

I experienced pass the buck doctors.

I would like to Thank the St Michael's Eye Clinic Team for the excellent treatment I have received for the serious eye problems i have encountered. A Special thank you to Dr.Giavedoni and his team. You feel very comfortable in his care. He comes across as a great person as well just by the way i heard him talk to his staff with genuine care and respect.

WORST HOSPITAL EVER! No body cares about anyone, if you go make sure you have 12 hours to waste. Not even a start

Fatma K.

I WAS DENIED ANESTHESIA BY AN UNPROFESSIONAL NURSE WHILE 8.5 CM DILATED AND WAS ALMOST PARALYZED FROM THE ANESTHEOLOGIST WHO HIT A NERVE ON MY SPINE BECAUSE HE DIDNT PUT MY BACK STRAIGHT. The most horrific experience I had ever had in my entire life at a healthcare establishment where one is supposed to feel safe. October 17th 2020. I had gone into the hospital situated in downtown Toronto where I was the closest to and because MY WATER BROKE. BEING GBS POSITIVE AND INFORMING THEM OF THAT, THEY INSISTED I GO TO THE HOSPITAL I WAS SUPPOSED TO INITIALLY GIVE BIRTH AT WHICH IS A 30 MINUTE DRIVE FROM DOWNTOWN NOT INCLUDING TRAFFIC. I comprehended that at that specific time, they were short in staff which with all due respect, IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO TELL A PREGNANT WOMAN WHO HAD HER WATER BREAK TO GO ELSEWHERE. HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL, UNETHICAL and MOST IMPORTANTLY ILLEGAL at such a HIGH EXTENT. MUST ONE GO STRAIGHT TO A HOSPITAL, NEAREST ONE BEING EVIDENTLY, IF THEIR WATER BREAKS? THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION IS: ABSOLUTELY! WHY IS THAT? BECAUSE ONCE THE WATER BAG BREAKS, IT IS CRUCIAL TO GO TO A HOSPITAL, ONCE AGAIN CLOSEST ONE EVIDENTLY, IN ORDER FOR THE DOCTOR TO VERIFY THE HEALTH OF THE PREGNANCY AND PROCEED WITH ASSISTING LABOR, IF NECESSARY, TO DIMINISH THE TIME OF LABOUR AND THE RISK OF INFECTION! ALSO, as I am GBS positive, it was tremendously important to do so, because GBS RISK WILL GO UP THE LONGER YOUR WATER IS BROKEN. THOSE NURSES THAT SUGGESTED I GO TO SCARBOROUGH HOSPITAL WHICH WAS CLEARLY NOT SAFE, DEFINITELY KNEW THAT, BEING HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS OF COURSE! That was merely the beginning of a traumatizing experience. Nurses are on their phones instead of being present in a room where multiple pregnant women are and where one is in an extreme amount of pain asking for a nurse. I was asked why the father of my child was not present to which SHE SHOULDNT OF ASKED. LITTLE DID THEY KNOW, THE FATHER IS AN ABUSIVE ALCOHOLIC WHO WOULD ABUSE ME WHILE PREGNANT. They also breeched confidentiality and privacy policies which are supposed to be compliant to all Canadian laws. THE FATHER CALLED THEM ASKING IF I WAS THERE, AND THEY INFORMED HIM I WAS WHICH THEY ARE NOT PERMITTED TO DO SO. THEY NEVER INFORMED ME OF SUCH IMPORTANT INFORMATION, INSTEAD CALLED CHILD PROTECTIVE AGENCY BELIEVING THE LIES HE TOLD BECAUSE I LEFT HIM BECAUSE HE WAS ABUSING ME WHILE PREGANT. In the process of GIVING BIRTH, the father of the child called the hospital asking them if I WAS THERE TO WHICH THEY INFORMED HIM I WAS AND TO WHICH HE ACCUSED ME OF WRONGFUL THINGS, INLVOLVING CHILD PROTECTIVE AGENCY., TO TAKE THE BABY AWAY FROM ME AS I HAD LEFT HIM BECAUSE HE WAS ABUSING ME. THE CREME DE LA CREME WAS WHEN I WAS 8.5 CM DILATED, I had informed a nurse, training this one girl studying to be a nurse, that I was in pain and that if it intensified to get AN ANESTHEOLOGIST TO GIVE ME MORE ANESTHESIA AS I OPTED WITH HAVING A PAINLESS CHILDBIRTH. FIFTEEN MINUTES PASSED AND I WAS IN SUCH EXTREME PAIN. THIS ONE NURSE CAME, AND I ASKED HER TO CALL THE ANESTHEOLOGIST TO WHICH SHE RESPONDED WITH: "NO, YOU SHOULD WANT TO FEEL THIS EXPERIENCE". SHE DENIED MY HAVING MORE ANESTHESIA WHILE I WAS IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN WHICH IS ILLEGAL. I had tried asking for a nurse many times, to which that same nurse ignored my calls multiple times WHILE I WAS IN PAIN SCREAMING FOR A NURSE TO COME BECAUSE SHE HAD REFUSED ME TO GET MORE ANESTHESIA. THE ONLY INDIVIDUALS THAT WERE DOING THEIR JOBS PERFECTLY WERE , THE NURSE WHO DISCHARGED ME, AND THE ONE TRAINING THE NURSE TO BE. I AM TRAUMATIZED FROM THIS VERY OCCURENCE AND HOW POORLY AND WRONGFULLY I WAS TREATED. LASTLY, THE DOCTOR who delivered the baby, T. FRIERE LIZAMA, INCORRECTLY DID MY STITCHES AS I HAVE TO HAVE SURGICAL REPAIR AT A HOSPITAL BECAUSE A TISSUE IS HANGING OUT. WOULD YOU TRUST YOUR LIFE INTO THE HANDS OF A DOCTOR WHO CANT EVEN CLOSE SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS A PERINEAL TEAR WITH STITCHES CORRECTLY. PERHAPS MORE INSTANCES OF THIS IN MORE SERIOUS SITUATIONS LIKE FOR INSTANCE, STITCHING OF INTERNAL ORGANS.

I find it is very difficult to communicate with the staff treating the patient. My husband was admitted for treating some worrisome medical condition, and I only want to get updates from the primary physician regarding my husband condition ( which is permitted by my husband). All I want is a few minutes talk with the attending physician to answer the concerns regarding my beloved one, but unfortunately, all communication channel was blocked, not able to reach the attending physician. Why it is so difficult for a patient or a family member to get some explanation of their illness ?

So, I had a not so great experience at st.michaels hospital Friday night. I had fainted and my glasses broke and punctured my skin requiring me to get a couple stitches. I went to the hospital and found the staff very abrubt and totally without compassion. Not just with me but with other patients that were coming in. I understand our healthcare system is so broken and being in healthcare myself totally under staffed making it very stressful. However that should never be an excuse for how you treat people in a vulnerable state. There was a poor man at triage telling his story and I listened while I was waiting . His English wasn't very strong and the nurse had to repeat herself to him Multiple times. Each time her voice got harsher more irritated sounded and almost humiliating as the staff behind her laughed. This man had eaten peanuts and he was scratching. Allergy maybe? Even I knew that. However she rudley kept telling him to stop stratching and have a sit in the waiting area. The man then become unconscious and was rushed inside the ER. Not until then was he taken serious. Unreal. I pray he is okay. Anyways I waited about three hours and told it would probably another 8! For a couple stitches that's it. Why can we not have the RNs do a stitch or the paramedics. I am sure it would take a bit of the burden off the doctor's. Anyways ...I am totally disgusted with our hospitals and how people are treated like an inconvenience to the staff. You should be ashamed. Rethink your career if you're going to be like that. Or shape up and have some damn respect for people. Thanks

Once again above and beyond. Nothing but an amazing experience dealing with Dr Howard Ginsberg and his team in Nurosergery department. After care from surgery on Tuesday Aug 3 truly amazing from all the nurses and staff. Can't thank you all enough at St Mikes. Dr Ginsberg is absolutely amazing at his craft a true gift.

Lack of business acumen and vision from procurement leadership side. The hard work, initiative and team spirit are not fostered at all, while the cliques and flunky style employees are kept at high esteem by the overarching, everlasting procurement leadership. The Procurement Department Management should allow the employees in the procurement department to have a mark on what they do, treat them with respect and dignity and promote the employees on merit. This way the huge employee turnaround in the procurement department could be avoided and a great deal of public money saved. If you have a good job and a shred of dignity do not risk your future career by accepting a position within the procurement department from St. Michael's Hospital.

The chaplain showed up at my bedside, unannounced & uninvited. I dismissed him & told the nurse that he was not come near me again. A few days later, he showed up again! Again, uninvited & unannounced, and after I changed rooms. How did he know I was moved, and what other personal info was he given without my permission??? Do NOT tell me to waste my time emailing or calling. Post a public explanation here.

Dr. Deborah Robertson treated me in 2020 to 2021 for uterine fibroids. I chose her based on her bio and personable face. I suffered with fibroids for almost 20 years. I had two surgeries before and tried everything in the book so as to not do a hysterectomy. Dr. Robertson was straightforward, professional and confident. She told me there was no other option. Even though I tried other gynecologists I felt this was the time and it felt right with her. I recall her telling me "I was waiting for her." I was terrified, but Dr. Robertson reassured me there was no other option. My surgery was on March 11, 2020 (day WHO officially announced it was a pandemic) but I did not know this.. The anesthesiologist and head nurse for my surgery were amazing. They helped to put my nerves at ease. Dr. Robertson and her team showed up before I went to surgery and I could not even recognize her as she looked like a young vibrant girl. She was so upbeat and positive that I had no choice but to feel less anxious. Once I was in the surgery room, Dr. Robertson, the anesthesiologist and head nurse were upbeat and humorous. They made it so comfortable for me. My fibroid was huge and there was no guarantee my ovaries could be kept or it could be done by minimal invasive surgery. Dr. Robertson performed the surgery so there were four small incisions, a small cut and she kept my ovaries intact. I think God led me to her and I thank God she was able to do this. She also worked with Dr Tseng and he was very thorough and personable. I had a reaction to iron infusion and he was careful and kept me at the hospital and emergency as extra precautions. He also followed up with me after my surgery to order further tests. He was very easy to get along with.

One of the worst experiences visiting a hospital. Was visiting toronto and had a Q tip stuck in my ear. It took me almost 5hours to finally see a doctor for a five mins procedure, and another hour or 2 just for blood work. I had to leave even before getting it done cause I have spent half my day there. Most of the nurses etc are still being trained and have no in-depth experience or knowledge of what to do. I wish I just went into a walk in clinic nearby but I was unsure if they had the right tools. So you’re welcome to go there if you have all day to spend. Cheers

Wonderful reception, doctors, nurses and administrative staff are always ready to lend a helpful hand, testing equipment all up to date, with great attention to detail.

I found all of the emergency room staff to be caring and pleasant to all of the patients including myself. They certainly earned their wings today!

I went to visit my brother- in law Saturday Sep 16, 2017 . He is in the 2nd. floor. The room was a mess!!Very dirty! surgical gloves all around the floor, cottons with blood on the floor, masks, few trays with meals that he didn't eat, left at the window! The pillow cases dirty with spills of something! Very sad!! I ask to the nurse if they not cleaning the room, and she told me that the patient was messy (he is mental ill and suffering from terminal cancer) and I told her that he can be messy, but he doesn't use those surgical blue gloves that were all around the floor! At the front desk ...? never mind!! rude staff, not helping ! They told my husband if we need an update, that call on Monday (??)They suppose to call us for a meeting with the Dr. and Social working, but nobody bothers! Lack of compassion for the patient and for the family!! We need kind person to understand us.The whole situation to be at the hospital is overwhelm itself, why we have to put up with rude or careless people???
