REVIEWS OF Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital IN Ontario

Ken Cooke

I have had to use Soldiers Memorial for both emergency and day surgery. I have had nothing but good to say about the staff and hospital. Only 4 stars because there is always room to improve. Too many people use the emergency facility for non emergency ailments. Sorry if you feel the wait is too long our system goes by most in need not when you walk in It costs our healthcare system a lot more in dollars and wait times than going to a family physician or walk in clinic.

Claude Dubois

They are very thorough and very nice people.

Brittany Pelland

I luckily didn't have to wait too long in the emerge, the nurses were very friendly and helpful. I had Dr. Barnet and he was very professional and helpful as well. Overall it's was a good experience all things considered.

Arynn Von Extcy

Absolutely awful, worst hospital experience ever, the staff and doctors were terrible, waited 4 hours for a prescription on a relatively slow night, one nurse kept shooting dirty looks, save yourself time go to a public health clinic

NeedsVerification

Absolutely pathetic service from the doctor on staff. Essentially accused me of being a needle user in front of my girlfriend and then sent me home on the basis that I had the "Man Flu;" and I'm sorry but that's not a medical diagnosis, nor is it acceptable to send a patient out sick with a high fever with that diagnosis. Get your doctors properly educated or shut yourselves down, because the service was 100% unacceptable, from being left in an eye exam room in a chair for an hour and a half, being told I was forgotten about, and then pushed through and sent home with no regard for my safety. Thanks guys, you're the real medical MVPS.

Many services and usually short wait times

If you are in need of mental help crisis intervention I suggest you make sure your crisis happens between 9-5 during the work week. Otherwise you wait like everyone else for the attending ER Doctor while 5 babies are screaming for attention. You could try making an attempt on your life and hope the ambulance makes it in time and its during normal business hours. There is no emergency for a mental crisis. So in short kill yourself or don't but dont expect anyone at emergency to even give you fake compassion unless its during 9-5 M-F.

This hospital ER wait room does not accommodate deaf/hard-of-hearing patients. They yell patient names from the treatment area door. I have repeatedly requested they revise their protocols. They have not done so. I have suggested an electronic communication board. Four years later...zero progress. Very disappointed.

Brought child in for test. I was denied access as I am unable to wear a mask. I had shield on. I have been to other Hospitals, and specialists and they have no issue with shield. It says to me should I have a health emergency I will not be attending this hospital. Apparently my Heath and mental well-being doesn’t matter. Discrimination sucks and hurts!!

Poor treatment of students, absolutely disgusting facility. If I ever need to go a hospital and Soldiers is my only option, just shoot me dead.

Natasha Kiehne

worst hospital ever. every. time. it's the only thing they are consistent with. my daughter broke her arm and we waited 5 hours!!! while she was screaming in pain!!! I had a surgery booked here and their day ran late so they made me comeback another day after fasting all day and waiting in the waiting room from 12 to 5!! so ridiculous! So many people have to come here just because they have a cold because there are no walk in clinics! orillia needs to do something about this.

Nurses great. Doctor did not see me after my mom's surgery to tell how the surgery went. Had to wait and have the recovery nurse tell me on the way to my mother's in patient room

My wife was there for 8 hours only to get a script for a medication that nobody can get...useless

Went in for a hernia november of 2020, I was having issues with my identification due to a double-registration of my birth. So I was without a health card or photo ID (I now have my OHIP card and photo id thankfully, after reaching out to OHIP about my situation for the 7th time that year, I have an apology letter for my situation) I had print-outs showing that I have medical coverage and the print outs even had my OHIP number. The receptionist asked me 4 times where I was living before Canada, I'm Native American. I told the ER doctor that I smoke pot when he asked me about drug abuse, and because I admitted to using a legal drug, I was refused and pain medication. I was sat on a bed tilted backwards feeling immense pain for 3 hours on my phone while waiting for ice. I had to get out of the hospital bed and go ask the nurses where my ice was after 3 hours of waiting in pain. In the time that I was sitting there waiting for my ice, a white man was treated for a sprained ankle and was in and out within 20 minutes. Another overweight white woman was brought in and examined for chest pains etc and she didn't even have a mask on for the entire time she was in the hospital. She was out in around 10 minutes. The ER doctor finally came back after I watched him walk by my room every 10ish minutes, chatting with coworkers. I saw him just standing at the nurse's station chatting it up when I was still waiting for my ice. Now that he was finally back, he tried 4 separate times to push my hernia back through my abdominal wall, without pain medication. He was literally laughing at me, while I was squirming in pain. He tried calling the radiologist once, and didn't try to call again. I was in the hospital for 5.5 hours and the radiologist was nowhere to be found, in the middle of the day. The ER doctor eventually fit most of my hernia through the abdominal wall, without pain medication, and then sent me home. He told me "come back if you feel nausea or start throwing up". I felt nauseous that same night and was throwing up for 3 days, I decided to either let it kill me or just pass, because I knew for a fact that I wasn't going to be given proper treatment at this hospital. Absolutely disgusting how this place is being run, and I can see why people say Orillia is one of the worst towns in Ontario.

Doctors and nurses were wonderful, CT scan in few a hours not like in Toronto 6 month waiting period. Very proud of our health care system.

I was in the emerg watching my poor uncle die...they were amazing then all of a sudden there was a shift change and they were yelling at us for having emotions. What a horrible experience...you would think emerg staff could be more respectful at a very difficult time. I followed all PPE instructions..but still they had to make me and my family feel more horrible on a very difficult day of our lives. When I go it will hopefully be at Mount Sinai or somewhere on university Ave in Toronto.

I am new to the area and fortunately avoided the emerg up until a few weeks ago. I have lived in several small towns in Ontario and worked in the Patient Transfer business for 8 years ( I've seen a lot of Hospitals) Soldiers Memorial Hospital was incredible, not only my time spent in Emerg but my follow up visit for a stress test was impressive. So professional, caring, efficient, thorough, and friendly. Cant say enough! Thank you!!

Came to the emergency dept for an issue I had . Greeted by a wonderful nurse ...Believe her name was ashley . She took such good care and was very attentive to myself while also paying close attention to many others . The emerge could use an update but all the help I had was amazing . Thank you Ashley for your care and professionalism . You know your stuff ! Needs to be more people like you in this world !

I can't believe how extraordinary everyone was on floor 4 of the Harvey Wing. They were so accommodating and got my mother into several tests within the span of one day, as well as so many other things. More than that, they kept us all calm and happy throughout the entire four days we were there. We're all very grateful!

Matt Fitzgerald

Was in and out pretty quickly. If only the doctor had actually got the steel out of my eye and not just scared it up with a drill

Mark

They are always there when I need them.

It is regrettable that Ontario hospitals do not generally ask for feedback. How else can they improve? However, this 5-star review is because several parts of the healthcare 'puzzle' came together for me at SMH. I was misdiagnosed with a sprained quadricep by South Muskoka (Bracebridge) Hospital - 1 star. A low-priority ultrasound 2 weeks later at Muskoka Algonquin (Hunstville) confirmed a more serious tear and quick referral to Orillia (5 stars for Hunstville). I have been working with both Drs Xing and Vora, who did my surgery. Both were patient, invited questions and from every indication, very competent. The nursing, Admin and volunteer teams were also excellent. Thank you SMH!

Really great staff member at door...but terrible nurse care inside..they only care about there jobs not patients its sad to see in this world...

Absolute embarrassment. Only person in the waiting room and I still sat there for over 4 hours. Tax dollars hard at work folks.

Went to the hospital by ambulance in July, and I did NOT have a good experience. I had a really bad sunburn and heat stroke and had fainted onto a wall face first, hitting my head and my knee put a nice hole through the wall. I had to go by ambulance as I could not walk without fainting again or vomiting. The doctor there told me it was unlikely I had a head injury as he would only be concerned if I was above 70???? (I didn’t realize young people are immune to concussions!) and that we could order a CT but he said it’s a lot of radiation and the risk outweighs the benefit. He barely examined my swollen legs and they gave me IV fluids and sent me on my way. They didn’t offer a wheelchair or help to leave. I had to request one and they were annoyed but said okay. The hospital made me feel like a burden and probably thought by my age it was a case of being hungover, but that was not the case at all. I had to go through my family doctor for x-rays for my leg and a head injury diagnosis. Now we are September and I am still in physiotherapy for a concussion, on reduced hours at work and have to see an optometrist for vision problems. Thanks SO MUCH for the proper care OSMH ????

Nice staff and comfy beds. Lack of entertainment was off putting and the needles were uncomfortable but overall a great hotel to stay at if your heart stops working properly. Would've liked a mini bar, though.

The hospital is kept clean. The ER has its issues but it is much better than some I have been to. They are very accepting of transgender individuals and will do their best to accommodate you or send you the right specialist to help you. The ER wait averages at about 2.5-3 hours for a non-emergency. Dr. Rodway-Norman is amazing! Would recommend this hospital for most issues. If they can't help you, they will refer you to someone who can.

1 star bcoz this was least i could give.. If i had choice I would have deleted stars from other people's review too. The worst place on planet to be if you are suffering. No one cares here, no compassion at all. Emergency dept. Is just a joke. Brought my daughter not even 3 years old in immense pain to get a doctor to check. From the enterance the experience started to go negetive. No screener to ask screening questions some hospital staff standing in lobby rudely mentioned wear a new mask ( no please, no thank you) just wear a new mask and left the area. Entered triage waited 20 mins for the turn for staff to take generic history and vitals of my daughter. Then i dont know for what reason there is a second window literally asked same questiona what triage staff asked and verified emergency contact and asked us to wait. Entry to waiting area at 8:28 pm sat on chair with my daughter crying her lungs out in pain 8 out 10 as I can feel that because even with elbow dislocated in past she didnt cry at all. With a policy of "patient with serious injury or illness will be seen first regardless of time of arrival" my daughter should have been give preference at least over someone aged about mid 20s with anxiety and not able to sleep problem. But no, it doesnt happen bcoz they were white looking and ofcourse no one say it out but it persist at non competitive places such as Hospitals and many govt offices. While waiting my daughter vomitted 2 times, I let the staff know however instead of asking someone to send us in faster she was worried about the vomit puddle on floor. 2 people on seperate occasion asked about puddle clearly stating a vomit puddle is more important than my poor baby here. And call to see doctor at 10:55. Wait time for a poor little baby who was actually in pain was 2 hours and 37 minutes.. I am definitly going to bring this to ministry of heath but this hospital and every other govt dept need overhauling where the taxes I pay get utilized appropriately. If Canadaian govt is not avle to sustain healthcare then atlease dont tax us for not giving the service. Dont visit here find some other place where atleast someone who value humans like call online healthcare services ( telus health etc.)

Truly a racist hospital. My father even died here and he did not get respect either. If you want to go back to Alabama in the 1950s and relivr an experience come to soldiers memorial. This place only hires white people and they treat other minorities like a bag of you know what. Almost like a colostomy bag, that’s how I felt. I wouldn’t want to come back here even if I was dying. I rather have a heart attack then come back here again. Id never recommend it to anyone and I only happened to go there because I was in labour and I wasn’t close to my regular hospital. If you’d like to also have your newborn potentially kidnaped and potentially sold to an adoption agency to generate a lagging revenue, come to this hospital. Great place to feel like a hostage. I’d rather pay $40,000 to have a baby somewhere else. I almost forgot about their rotten social workers who spy on everybody, to make sure I make some sort of mistake. I was also over medicated. They tried to put me into a coma to kill potential brain cells that may have worked better before this incident. Not only did I overhear everything they said during each procedure, but they were laughing at me while I was in labour. They did not know that I could hear them for some reason I was completely conscious but in an unconscious state. They were hoping to confiscate children and newborns by training a very devious staff. A complete racket of Canadian society and if you’re not very intelligent and not highly intelligent such as myself, (like most of the people I’ve met in the Simcoe Region) I could see possibly the of a potential kidnapping be successful since a basic layman would not understand exactly what was going on. Perhaps this miss management in the Canadian government sector of workers including hospital staff, police, nurses and social workers maybe exposed such as how the Me Too movement has exposed many sexual predators. Hopeully the time will come when people will speak their mind against the Canadian government racket business trying to ruin families. They also did this with my grandmother when they basically told me one day that she was property of the Canadian government and I no longer was power of attorney because I didn’t have a stamp on the power of attorney documents and no next of kin was involved or alive anymore. What a corrupt system.

I've been sitting here at triage for 15 minutes and the first one just went, this other guy is literally in front of me with a packed room, texting. In my 45 years I've never seen something like this, the Dr's are faster then the triage.

Steve Lashbrook

I was brought in by ambulance after fainting. Brought very quickly into a ward. Everyone from paramedics, nurses, techs and doctors was thorough, professional and compassionate. Everyone! I am thankful for Soldiers Memorial. Kept me in as long as deemed necessary and sent me home with a monitor.

, WORST HOSPITAL IN ONTARIO RUDEST DOCTORS AND STAFF TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL

Kelly Hodgins

Yesterday morning about 5:45 we arrived at emerg, 1 person in the waiting room and got registered. At one point I proceeded to the triage nurse who was on her personal phone wrapped in a blanket, not a professional image I think. I asked her for a blanket and got a reply to a question I had not asked. Oh sorry to disturb you at your job!! The nurse in the 2nd triage had a tablet on. Now if you have time to watch shows or attend to personal matters fine but patients should not be left to wait for hours. At another point I spoke with the new triage nurse, who was more helpful. We spent an hour and 45 mins waiting to be called and everyone was called in together. Shift change, no excuse. Great care from Dr. and the following nurse. Some very unprofessional, uncaring behaviour we received.

This is by far the best hospital I have been to. I went to a different hospital last week, where they barely even looked at me, despite me telling them all of my symptoms. The staff at this hospital did multiple tests to get to the bottom of it, and treated me as soon as they could. They were also all very kind and professional.

Kaylee Narvaez

Worst hospital in Ontario without a doubt, do not go here for any medical emergency. They do not know how to treat patients let alone diagnose!

Griz Ley

I'm very thankful to SMH for catching advanced coronary heart disease that Midland's GBGH totally missed and sent me back to work with. In just a few days they had me transferred to Southpark for a bypass. They only get 4 stars because the ER triage nurse chewed me out for not going back to GBGH when I had chest pains and left me in the waiting room un-monitored for 15 min while I was having an active coronary event.. Plus 2 nights before my transfer for surgery they put a guy with a SuperBug in the bed next to me despite having 2 totally empty rooms on the wing. The plus side to that was I warranted quarantine protocols at SouthPark and had a lovely private room with a view!

My sister is in the ICU at Orillia and the nurse and doctor staff are absolutely amazing. We are so grateful for all of the hard work and effort these people put into their jobs every day.

I had both hips replaced both hips 9 weeks ago and spent 11 days in there 3 in the ICU I had some set back and my stay was supposed to be 4 days 5 tops. For the most part I was treated with great respect by the staff admit and nurses. I received a bill in the mail from the hospital 2 weeks ago, I called my insurance company asking them how much I owe on this $2000 bill. I have coverage for semi private and I was advised I would have to pay the extra for a private room (I was thankful they found a private room for me). I don't remember if I was asked if I had Insurance but I think I must have been because we had spoken about the private room. I called the insurance company up and they advised I call the hospital back and have them send the bill to them and ill be charged the extra for the private room. I called the hospital back and explain why I called I was put through to the accounts payable? I left a message and explained why I need to talk to a person. 4-5 days later I called back and the same thing happened, this time I told myself I made 2 attempts to settle this bill. Today I received a call from a staff of the hospital and she started right into me as to why I haven't paid this bill its been 9 weeks and I haven't paid it! Well its really been 7 weeks but that's not the point I told her I tried twice to get ahold of someone to straighten the bill out and NOW you call me back playing the heavy as though I was a pos off the street dodging my bill. This is the first time since I moved up here 3 years ago that I have been treated like this, how dare you talk to me like im 12 years old after I have been trying to contact you. I gave her the info she needed to send to the insurance. She wasn't happy with this she wanted me to read the info off the card, I told her I had to go to the truck out on the road " Well I want you to read it off the card". I went out to the truck on 2canes (I needed the exercise anyway) came back into the house and called Marilyn right back. I read as she asked Gr... Sh... Ins... my name and the number I had told her 3 or 4 times. She stopped me before I could read the last part "My company name" she just wouldn't accept this one and only number I had. I read it to her again and this time I included the business name then she finally accepted this number. She then advised she will send this info up to the proper office and have them deal with it. I realized that Marilyn may have been having a bad day but unlikely as bad as the day I was having with my 2 new hips, I didn't want to be treated like I was some scum out of a garbage dump trying to get away without paying my part, I always pay my part and the fact I left 2 messages before they called me back, atleast give me credit for calling them back Marilyn isn't my wife nor my mother she had no business to chew me out as she did. I give great credit to the nurses that took care of me the day I went to the ICU, the respect they gave me was expected from them for this is their jobs and DAMD they did a very very good job. The nurses that came and went through my room also get a thank you ladies and the 1 male nurse Kurt treated me well but this one phone call really has sickened me and almost destroys all the good things I had to say about OSMH. I thank all the volunteers and staff once again and wish you all well, I wont allow this distraught employee that obviously hates her job and should look for another one, give another person a chance to work at the hospital im sure Tim Horton's down the street is hiring you can treat the sick and needy as you may the loving personality isn't needed.

The care here depends on the day and staff. I went in yesterday with severe pain (a 10) and trouble breathing. Took me in right away in a wheelchair and was checked out and given pain med very quickly. Unfortunately the pain med didn't help at all, but they sent me home anyway and told me to take OTC ibuprofen which I did. Today I went back because the pain was worse. After 4 straight days and nights of unrelenting pain and no sleep, and now back for the 2nd time. Was told only 1 doctor on staff and many other patients ahead of me. The pain was excruciating and I had the shakes and needed to lie down, but they had me waiting in an examination room on a hard little chair. No care or compassion whatsoever. After waiting 2 hours I was told 7 people still ahead of me and I would have to wait like everyone else. I finally left and went to the walk in clinic on Memorial Ave. and was seen in less than 30 minutes.

Been at the hospital for over 3 hours i have pneumonia. No nurse or doctor has come yo see me yet. There was 2 people infront of me and 6 behind me and they are calling people in who came after me. Having a very hard time breathing my throat is also closing up. Our healthcare is terrible.

Rachel Hensher

Broke my arm and was casted on an old fracture with the cast putting pressure on a radial head break. Also ended up with massive hives from the cast. I asked if he would give me a mild pain killer and was told just ibuprofen would be fine. I was forgotten about in the ER while in pain it took an hour after x-rays and asking what's going on to finally have someonen remember I was there. The wait time was the only thing that wasn't too bad compared to city hospitals.

Worst staff of any hospital I’ve ever been to. Had one good experience in 14 years of living in Orillia. Patient relations is a joke, they don’t investigate their own, for serious things, victim blame and ask victims to prove things and don’t help at all, even though all of the records are there.

Absolutely terrible. My family is dying and the nurses on the floor are so incredibly crusty and uncaring it’s unbelievable. Not even an acknowledgement or a hello when greeted. Eye rolls when asked questions. Short abrupt answers with scoffs and snickers. When I remember our last days together I’ll never forget the treatment of these women nor will I ever set foot in this facility again. Thanks for making this hard time even more difficult.

I'm speaking on behalf of a friend. My friend was recently admitted to the 6th floor and it was a traumatic experience they treated her like a child made unreasonably strict rules for her made her earn things like pajamas it was an altogether humiliating experience for this person and increase the length of her stay for no reason these people need to be held accountable!

December 8 2018 My husband had to go to the emergency cause he had something in his eye near his pupil he tried to get it off himself without success so I drove him into Orillia.... wow what a mistake I wouldn’t even take the devil there let alone my worst enemy it’s the dirtiest place I have seen, we got checked in at 12:07 pm and watched people come and go without seeing a doctor, I witness a lady bring her child in cause she had a toothache and fever plus a cough.... wow do t need a doctor to say she has a tooth errupting but she goes in and comes out and my husband still sitting in pain with something in his eye, and to make it worse when we finally seen a doctor at 6:00pm we found out it was metal lodged into his eye, the doctor got it out but really... they said it’s priority first but I think they put us at the bottom of the list cause I asked how long will it be cause my husbands eye is killing him .... literally COME ON ORILLIA STEP UP!!!!!! I am changing my hometown status

As soon as you say your not vaccinated no matter what the reason and even a negative covid test the staff is ignorant and doesn't listen to you and wants you out. Had a 103 fever swelled intestines blockage and extreme sore throat nothing worked or was getting better they did no blood urine or stool tests just checked if I had covid and sent me home

I was in hospital and I feel and experienced, I believe and I think there s hidden descrimination In specific nursing’s staff. Most of the time they chatting each other and more attention to whites

The first nurse we had to see seemed annoyed and was very rude towards us not only that there not even wearing proper uniform there wearing high school sweaters and jogging pants the second person at registration was nice and didn't seemed annoyed but then we sat there for 12 hours with a constant pain in my arm that turns out it was broken this place is hell DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!

We have not had a bad experience at OSMH. The staff have always been attentive and knowledgeable during our visits for various reasons (imaging, birthing, medical issues). The nurses there deserve a special shout out because they work so hard and always take excellent care of their patients.

Absolutely great, professional service. We went for (as we thought) ,,quick” check up with our son, unfortunately we had to stay much much longer. His health condition was much serious than we originally thought . We stayed in this hospital 4 days (starting at ER and ending up at pedestrian side ) From first moment when we came (2 ladies at registration windows , nurse and doctor on ER ,sorry don’t know names ) they treated us and other people around very well . Friendly and very knowledgeable professional staff ,they were able to pass not the greatest news in a very gentle and professional way to us. From ER we were moved to maternity and pediatric. There is no words to describe how good they tread little patients there. Nurses (Tara, Wendy, Paula and Michelle) dietitian Whitney & Kim and doctor Smith are all amazing. Don’t want to repeat myself but they couldn’t do any better job, first they calm us down (we were still in deep shock after diagnose) and showing us step by step how to live our new diabetic life. They took good care not only of our son but us parents too. We really felt like home away from Home there in that most difficult time. Huge thanks again to all of you there good caring people. If I only could I’ll give you 10 stars you well deserved that for your high quality services. Keep a good work guys. Chris

Outstanding labour and delivery staff! My sister just had her baby over the weekend, and the nursing staff and doctors were amazing. As support people, we never felt in the way or as a burden. They treated my sister, nephew and brother in law very well. I love the way they promote bonding after the delivery. It's obvious they are here for the well-being of the family, not their own agenda, something you don't always see. Specifically Kelly RN, Dr. Rheault, and Dr. (Will?), I believe was his name. It's makes all the difference in the world. One point of feedback I could make is the ward clerk should emulate the attitude of the rest of the staff. She was quite rude and didn't give that "welcome" feeling at all. Thank you Soldiers Memorial!

Waiting time for a excessive vomiting infant 4.5 hours. 3 hours in waiting room and 1.5 in a bed to talk to a doctor. It didnt seem busy at all.

I went to emergency at Soldiers Memorial Hospital yesterday with acute appendicitis. I was seen immediately and treated exceptionally well and in A very timely manner. Kudos to the entire Emergency Department Team and Dr. Nicholaus Bauman whose amazing surgical team removed my appendix with extreme skill. The compassion and excellent bedside manner of Dr. Bauman and his team were amazing! Thank you to all! Five Stars!

Julie Katherine

Had gone early Friday morning, we were in and out within an hour. The nurses that were helping me with intake and procedures were friendly and warm. The doctor listened very well and was very thorough.

Brian C.

Really great staff member at door...but terrible nurse care inside..they only care about there jobs not patients its sad to see in this world...

Millie Mish

0 stars is unavailable????? Ugh!!! My child tested positive 4 times for cystic fibrosis at this hospital before being sent to sick kids. Sick kids said the technology isnt up to date at OSMH.. SCARY!! How many other children are in orillia going through this or actually DO have it and it may be too late?!

Mary Lo

First time at this hospital. Very efficient staff. They were all attentive to me and made sure I was comfortable. Registration lady was a bit impatient though.

Diane Wilson

Went to ER and put into room around the corner from main area. Took forever for doctor to see me, was sent for xrays and then left for hours with no one even checking up...finally just left. They said they were busy, yet all beds but a couple were empty. I think they just forgot someone was in that far off room. Excuses do not work, been to enough ERs at other hospitals to know they are sadly lacking in patient care.

Jigar Patel

They are very slow and they don’t care about people hospitals must be put more DR. If not then please change name to walking nor ER.

Steve McDonald

One star is too much, after waiting there for 5 hours I was diagnosis with Bursitis in my hip, I have had hip pain for the last three months getting worse, even with stretching yoga etc. The doctor stated that my lymphoid were inflamed in my groin and to take anti inflammatory medication for two weeks however my condition was getting worse and I needed to get back to work so I returned a week and a half later to wait another 5 hours only to be told be another doctor that the original one was totally incorrect and I have a pitched nerve and told me to go to physio but then was surprise when I mention my lymphoid then told me that he would get me an ultrasound then dismissed me almost immediately. (This doctor tried the good ole dog and pony show with me but unfortunately for him I am highly allergic to bull sh!t. I am still in constant pain and would like for the govt to institute that if an ER goes over a certain amount of waiting time a Canadian Tax Payer gets a $100-$200 tax credit per hour wait maybe that will f'n get this system fixed and stop our tax dollars to go to bureaucrats, administrators and "top" doctors getting paid 250+ K per year.

Thank you ???? This hospital saved my brother's life.. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses in the ICU department. From the bottom of my heart. This hospital is wonderful.

Danna Martella

Had my baby girl delivered via c-section in late May. The staff were absolutely wonderful, especially the nurses in obstetrics. They took such phenomenal care of both myself and my daughter, that we just couldn't be happier with the level of care we received, truly!

Denise Richards

My husband and I have used the Emergency Department several times in the last few years. Always experienced exceptional care. During my visit last Friday I found every staff member to be professional, and caring. We are lucky to have such a wonderful hospital in Orillia. It's the staff that make it what it is.

Laura winmaster

The majority of the nurses are very nice and polite. long waiting time. No one likes to visit the hospital but this is one of the decent ones.

Well i am at the emergency i have been here since 7pm and am still sitting here waiting to see the dr and my cousin came in just after me and she fell and smashed her head and is still waiting to see the dr like how do they know that she does not have bleeding on her brain or something and they are still making her wait like REALLY!!!!!!

Luke Hawrylak

This place is a joke get all signed up checked in nice ladys at the front desk go to the emergency seating area and the nurse tells me there's no doctor in the emergency i dont know when there will be one like really cmon go to orillia or bracebridge do not waste your time here

Extremely disappointed in the attitude and aftercare received after giving birth. Nurses waste your time and trash your confidence as a new parent. Also, requested a private room through my insurance and not only didn't get one but had them bill my credit card for a semi private. Forced me to call my insurance and sort out this matter when they should be on top of it. I've never called patient relations before for a hospital but I did for this one. It's a shame it comes so highly regarded; I should have given birth at Bracebridge Hospital.

I'd like to leave a review regarding one of the young nurses there in particular. Connor in the emergency department took very good care of me and the entire patient line up while I was there on Friday October 5, 2018. I was there for his entire shift and saw how hard and effecient he worked to make sure all of us patients were well looked after. For such a young gentleman (23 I'm told), his work ethic and attention to detail did not go unnoticed. I hope his superiors take note. If you get to read this Conner thank you for all your hard work.

It was with great trepidation that I drove my father to the emergency at Soldiers Memeorial hospital in Orillia. He was clearly in pain and the car ride wasn't helping. He had seen three different doctors in the past three weeks only to be sent back home to suffer. In less than a month he had lost 20 pounds and aged considerably. I knew he couldn't go on like this. I also knew it was up to me to assert proper care for him if they tried to send him home like the other hospital and clinics had. Fortunately assertion was not necessary. My father received prompt and thorough care. The entire emergency staff worked like a well oiled machine and everyone was calm and personable. Eternal gratitude to Dr Tigchelarr for finally identifying my fathers problem and ensuring he received the best solution possible. And many thanks to nurse "ET" for putting both my father and I at ease during such a difficult time with his stellar bed side manner. With Thanksgiving just passed, I had to acknowledge that what I am most thankful for this past year is the excellent care my father received at Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

Sarge K

Its very long wait times, everyone I know would say the same. Staff are not the friendliest people especially when your down and out and need somone to care.

Bryan Beasleigh

Soldiers is an excellent facility with a caring staff. I travel from Barrie for treatment at the Soldiers Memorial Sleep Lab. Where else would you be greeted by a friendly face that calls you by name. Dr Alexander and his staff are amazing. Special thanks to Dr Alexander, Mo, Lauri and Don, you're all a class act.

ravi aggarwal

I glad we have it here. Ultimately a very important core service for Orillia and area. Too bad the provincial government keeps squeezing this place and it's fine service. The people deserve more from their Ontario government and the services here need increased support. So much more can be done here. First order would be to have more OR time so we attract more services and keep them.

Unfortunately, I recently found myself requiring two surgeries within five weeks, so I I have chosen to complete this review as the 5 star rating was warranted for both of my stays. From the covid screening, to admissions, pre-op and post-op staff, I have absolutely nothing bad to say. I was treated with nothing but respect and received the best care that I could have hoped for. A special thank you and an extra gold star to the OR team and to Dr Vora; the compassionate way you all did your job made these visits much less stressful.

Brativa Patchen

Wasn’t bad, wasn’t great service

Jason morrison

The soldiers Memorial Hospital staff mainly all the nurses are rude I asked them when can I get an x-ray she says to me when the doctor comes in he'll send you for X-rays and I said you just sent this gentleman beside me for X-rays and you're not a doctor so why does he have to see me before he sends me for x-rays all I need is x-rated I went to the hospital five times and all I need is x-rays but I never got them tell I'm just going to go use a different hospital

Becki Glendinning

Had a phenomenal experience in the emergency department. Our healthcare system is a difficult one to navigate and an even harder one to work but the staff at OSMH were courteous, polite and professional.

Jordan Hay

Just back from the MRI dept at OSH and have never been treated so rudely. The woman running the machine was so unprofessional and rude it was actually shocking. She made no effort at all to help the situation. Get your med help ANYWHERE else.

Ela Klimek

Amazing staff got me to the OB department in minutes ????

Jim Hicks

I was very impressed with the service I received for a biopsy of my temporal artery at the outpatients clinic. Helpful staff--right on time. Dr. Cape and his nurse did a pain free. stress free job on me. The parking was very handy to the clinic--easy for my 88 year old legs!! Thanks.

Bill Tillmann

Great nurses and ancillary staff

jashan preet

Very bad service no one cares who is in hospital and whom we want to direct call inappropriate and less caring nurses are their let them teach how to treat patients and don’t care about about visitors

Marie Lywood

Amazing Doctor (A. Mahajan) and Care Team!!! Have been at my side every step of the way for comfort and support. Sincere Thank You.

Tayler Tree

They dont even deserve 1 star , terrible service . Where did they pull these people , off the streets ? I could do a better job at caring for people, then the service I received, I left out of there being told everything is ok ? Meanwhile I felt terrible , wouldn't recoment it , but had no choice considering it was closest from my work . Waste of gas and time . Not to mention as I was leaving a lady pulled up to the front and rushed in to get a wheel chair for her mom , 2 lady's come out asking what's wrong you pregnant? Like really lady's, her mom was saying NO and then proceeded to let them know what was up . Thanks for reading

We moved to Ramara ,and in June 2021 I had total knee replacement in Barrie but was able to go to rehab at soldier memorial. What an excellent experience I am having working with the staff at rehab for my knee replacement. The service starts as soon as you enter the building. Every person you meet is so helpful, friendly and willing to assist you in any way you can. The hospital is well aware of people’s needs, rehab, registration, is in a location that makes walking for your visit very easy. They have chairs for people waiting for rides. Staff are even nice enough to get you your ticket at the registration area. Never under estimate small hospitals in smaller communities. Thank you for all you do and I hope everyone is aware that Orillia soldier memorial is an a+ hospital.

I arrived at Orillia Hospital Emergency on Monday Feb 24 approx 11 am in extreme pain. The reception nurse and admitting staff were exceptionally prompt, friendly and professional! My waiting time was within reason followed by immediate care from the admitting nurse. The Doctor was in to see me not long after and did a thorough Q &A which was reassuring, ordered blood tests which were done in little time. The Doctor returned in a reasonable amount of time with ALL results explaining clearly in a friendly manner. I sincerely thank him and the wonderful staff at the Emergency. They made a very uncomfortable experience much easier due to their excellent concern and care.

My baby was sent by our Family doc from Wasaga to possibly by admitted, ER staff was phenomenal was seen and treated right away. Got admitted in the unit, in 3hrs. Amazing Nurses in Peds Unit, Michelle, Amy and Tayler! Everybody was very humane and we had exceptional service! Thank you all for looking after my 8mo old ❤

I Was treated kindly, efficiently and quickly! Was in for three days. My only complaint would be the food. Otherwise I feel that the service was outstanding!

Rob Enright

Mental health ward patients refused there cellphone, and then charged $16 per collect call to connect with family... Or the other great option is they have access to one incoming phone for 35 patients, good luck getting through... The worse part is the program manager defended it, and doesn't seem to care.. Extremely disappointing, and would never donate or support

Andrew Miller

Poor excuse for a hospital. If they did as much working as they do gabbing in emerge, the wait times would be cut into a quarter of what they are.

Karen Geehan

I arrived by Ambulance and was seen within 15 min. The nurses were kind and did their jobs well! Dr Bennett was Kind and clear on results, I felt confident in him. Good Doctor. Very Happy with care when there. God Bless the Doctors and Staff for their service.

I went to the Orillia hospital for the first time the other day, for kidney stone follow up. The dr in the ER although was polite did not take my issues seriously, he told me I was had a muscle injury in a my low back which did not even hurt and I needed physio. I returned to RVH the next day as I was not doing well. They provided me the tests I needed and was able to dignosis the real problem. I will not go back to the Orillia hospital again.

B Ruttan

Walked out of Emergency today. Triage nurse put me to the bottom of the list because I didn't go to hospital Saturday when I first experienced symptoms. After everyone was called and I was the last person there I asked her what is going on. She said there was no room for me. She didn't believe me when I said it was my heart. She wanted to know why I didn't come in sooner. I said I don't like hospitals and for good reason! I have heart condition and my son died from heart attack at age 25 because Dr. Didn't believe he had a problem being 24. Not this hospital! I have been told by cardiologist nothing wrong with me a few times only to go on and have angioplasty. The last time 4 years ago I was again told nothing wrong. Had 3 blockages, 99 and 2 - 70's. I can't help if general test don't show anything. Had a heart attack and I was told it wasn't. Later that night they told me I had one. So now today I leave because Nurse put me to the bottom of the list and said there was no space for me. Always thought heart went first over a sore thumb! To add to this issue was seeing Dr Xing in fracture clinic. I begged him 3 times to do MRI. He told me there was nothing wrong and he wouldn't waste resources on me. Finally got my Dr from the city to request MRI on my foot! Wonders never cease! Tear in my foot, spurs in my ankle, about 7 things going on. According to him he knew by just an xray I had no problem. Since when does the medical profession have the right to be arrogant! I am disgusted with Orillia Hospital! College of Nurses and Physicians will be hearing from me!

Hospital staff person was rude , threw my sleep apnea battery hard on the floor. Walked in and said I was to move without warning, started throwing my things. Taken to another small room, tried to get settled there for awhile ,then told I would be moving again shortly. Already waited an hour and half (1:39am. Now) nurses were great themselves. so much stress watching this. I just wanting to go home it was to much. My adult daughter had an asthma attack from the stress. but won't leave because she's worried about my treatment. It's now 1:48 am. Just so tired. Still waiting.

Hal Weston

Really wish I got their names but the 4 RN’s in Oncology were absolutely amazing, super caring, fun to talk to and made my first blood transfusion experience so much better!

Rochelle Gibson

I am from out of town and decided I should probably be seen by a doctor.. I am thankful I did. The wait times were reasonable and the level of care and concern was nothing short of exceptional. I stayed pretty well over night and every nurse interaction that I overheard (and my own) was kind and respectful - despite being incredibly busy. I returned for out patient work the next day and again, every staff interaction made me feel like I was in good hands. I am disappointed I don’t have access to care like this in my home city, making me appreciated my experience that much more. Your hard work was not unnoticed!

Christine Howes

The nurses here are a complete joke. So unprofessional and rude.

David Brown

If you are a US Citizen seeking medical assistance be very careful. They will charge $718CA as soon as you walk through the door. As soon as I learned this from reception I said I would go elsewhere, and got excellent care at a walk in clinic for $60. Now they are trying to collect the $718 for absolutely no service at all. Update-following my complaint I understand that the charge will be waived.

Nathaniel Dacosta

Most the nurses and volunteers here are so kind and genuine nice people. I always come here if I can. Hospitals in Toronto seem to be so sketchy and filled with nurses who simply dislike their jobs.

Chelle Barkey

Our hospital is next to useless they do not take patients seriously they are so backwards it is ridiculous there system is completely flawed the emergency department is the worst area of the entire hospital when it comes to patient care and well being they spend more time talking and taking coffee/smoke breaks then trying to properly help patients

Rick Legassie

James MacKenzie

The worst hospital that I have ever been in. I was told that because of budget cutbacks they didn’t have any kind of drinks other than water in the evening. There was no television and if you did not have a tablet or smart phone it was a shame. I waited an hour to have an x-ray only to find out that they had the wrong room and that I needed a different room so I waited another hour, at that point I gave up and left. My doctor was very good but working in that hospital certainly seems to be a handicap.

Laura Young

I am the next of kin for my mother and she's been brought to the hospital before in ambulance and the hospital never called me. I am at home rn worrying about her because she's 2 hours late from coming home from her dialysis. I can't reach her because her phone is dead. So I texted my cousin who lives by the hospital if she had heard anything and she said no. So she offered to go over and check for me because I don't have a vehicle and the buses aren't running and it's late. So she goes over and tells me that my mom is in the ER. The hospital NEVER called me to tell me. So my mom was in the ER for 2 hours and I didn't know. I'm not impressed. What's the point of being the next of kin if they don't even call you.

I absolutely have to leave a review here for Soldier's MH. I'm not so much reviewing the overall level of satisfaction I received the day of my injury, because that would not warrant the 5 stars I am awarding today. This is for my overall experience in general. Don't get me wrong...the staff are working exceptionally well with the tools they are given and the pressures they are expected to use them under, but there's always room for improvements. I just hung up the phone from a call from Dr. Chang who was the attending Emergency Physician the day I was brought in. It's a week and a half after my injury and it's a Friday afternoon! The genuine concern and empathy I felt from her was really (and I mean REALLY) appreciated. We spent a good ten minutes discussing my condition and her findings post- xrays. I'm no expert, but I see good things in Dr. Chang's future. She's definitely got it going on, and and the primary reason for the 5-stars. Soldier's...you are lucky to have her! Hopefully, I'll never be back....lol!

Better off going to the vet. Shoulder pain, my arm is all numb and also hurt. Was told at 10 pm to go see a chiro or physio and given 2 advil. No muscle relaxant or nothing to help.

If I could give zero stars I would. My brother has been in and out of this hospital the last year with kidney stones. On the first visit he waited 5 days before they did anything, sent him home after surgery where he woke up in pain again from having the stone STILL there. The doctor said he removed it but in fact did not. The most recent visit was last Thursday when he arrived he was told the stone did not show up on the ultrasound because it was about to pass on its own. He was referred to see a specialist on Monday if it was not gone. The specialist does not even work on Mondays and now the following Wednesday (after being back in the hospital for the last 2 days) is about to have another surgery. The nurse on duty has been rude all day and the doctor operating now basically said that the other doctor last week was wrong. They all bad talk each other and pass the blame. It's a pathetic place and if you have the option to go elsewhere, do so!

Sarah M

Best emerg I have ever been to, handled my migraine very well. Amazing caring staff, got me a bed in a dark room within 30minutes. Very impressed, thanks guys :)

Dr Ho was so great with my 93 year old father in the emergency ward. He explained things very thoroughly and repeated when needed. He was caring and compassionate and is an asset to your hospital!❤️

Thank you to the amazing staff who cared for me on Saturday night. Kidney stone passed the next day with all their fast attention and spot on diagnoses it was a short roller coaster ride. Fantastic Care and compassionate attention THANK YOU Anni Banfield ❣❣❣❣❣

I enjoy this hospital and staff however they should not be charging individuals that are attending interviews for less than an hour 7.50 parking should be validate like at many other hospitals I have interviewed at or worked for.

Gilbert Gh

Staff are unprofessional and rude. They don't answer any question just because there's "rules and regulations" even if I'm the patient. If that's the case hospitals and all their rules are useless because it frustrates patients to understand their situation and what's happening. Called 3 times to request a correction on the ultrasound they refused to do it because it has to come from the Dr. After 2 weeks they still didn't respond to the Dr's request. Patients could die if there's anything urgent in their results.

gamer fourgee

I'm starting to notice a trend. People with more foreign names on here have one star reviews. The white people give 5 stars. If you need urgent healthcare and you are a coloured individual, please leave the Central Ontario area and go to Toronto. I understand this community is predominantly white, but you can not neglect people's health just because of the way someone looks. You are Healthcare professionals and you're supposed to help everyone, not just white people. IF YOU ARE COLOURED DO NOT COME TO BARRIE/ORILLIA/INNISFIL, YOUR HEALTH WILL BE NEGLECTED.

Wonderful care. Professional, friendly staff.

They literally saved my life. I had been battling a cold, which turned into wheezing etc, so I went to the emergency department in Barrie (RVH). They put a paper mask over my face, stuck me in a side room and told me it would be about an 8 hour wait....I was having difficulty breathing at that time. The ex was horrified, so he took me out of there and drove me to the emergency department here. I was taken care of quickly and compassionately. The doctor told me it was a good thing he brought me in that night because I had severe pneumonia and needed urgent care. Thank you for everything, from the bottom of my heart.

Zach Hunter

Very rude nurses. No compassion what so ever. Avoid this hospital at all costs

A stroke patient can stay in the hospital while waiting for a long term care home. The patient navigator and other staff will try to tell you otherwise but if you stand your ground you will eventually be asked to pay the hospital the LTC copayment rate. Do not be coerced into sending a patient to an inappropriate senior's residence that they claim is just like a LTC home. They are not equipped to handle complex cases or special pureed diets. Just because a seniors residence has a nurse on staff does not mean there is 24 hour nursing care. Stand your ground. The gov't does not built enough senior homes and hospitals end up fulfilling that need .

I went into the hospital early in the morning and they though I was there looking for pain meds and asked me several times what I took and how much I drank. I was appalled

Hello this is a very good hospital I was in a fight with a cougar and I lost and they help me 100

Paige Scanlon

I went today (December 26th 2020) I was given my bad at the second triage at 11:15 am. I was in a waiting room chair for a maximum of 5-15 minutes. I was brought to a separate room along with all others processed before me. I got my X-rays completed promptly and did have to wait for a doctor. However, the good spirit of these overworked team members made the wait a total ease. Despite everything going on this year every single staff member I interacted with was positive and polite. I was treated with respect as was those around me. The cleaning staff was one gentleman Chris. I hope he doesn’t mind I’m writing this but I have to say you were hustling and bustling. You continued to do rounds and I saw you clean that ER department continuously. I can’t say I’ve seen such stringent cleaning procedures completed during this year of absolute chaos. This really put myself (and I’m sure other patients in the ER today) comfortable with how well maintained and executed the cleanliness procedures were. The hospital was decorated and festive and I’m just so grateful to have such bright and supportive health care providers in our community especially during this trying time. Thank you! I hope I don’t have to come back but if I do, I trust i sill be in wonderful hands.
