Coming from Quebec, Ontario's system or this hospital is amazing!! The care and attention given was shockingly awesome! The staff are friendly, systematic, clean, washrooms were also very clean, parking was easy and did I mention the medical care was fantastic, professional and caring. Well done. Thank you

Today is my first time doing ultrasound during my pregnancy at Markham Stouffville hospital. Comparing to my previous ultrasound at the other location, today ultrasound here is Excellent that I must recommend. though it’s Covid-19 time, everything is organized. We called to register before we entered the hospital. After entering, we were screened at the front desk, who gave us new masks and sanitizer for hands. The appointment was quite on time so didn’t need to wait for long. My Sonographer, Joel, is super nice and patient. Joel scanned my baby very carefully and at the end he re-checked to make sure he didn’t miss anything before letting me leave. I can relax during the scan and also trust the ultrasound must be done extremely well for my baby. Thanks again to Joel! Cheers!

We received excellent care during and after the birth of our son at MSH. Thank you from all my heart to the team at Triage, labour and delivery, OB, Postpartum and Obstetrician. You guys were amazing at each step even during the difficult ones.

Delivered my baby at MSH in October (during covid times) and had a great experience there. The delivery nurses were all very caring and experienced and calm. Hospital food was the worst thing from my experience (but that was expected). They let you order in ubereats for pick up at the front entrance. A great hospita experience overall!

Thank you for the doctor and nurses to helped me recover from sickness , also thank you to nurses and all social workers in the hospital. Really appreciated their professional manner and service. Great doctors and nurses with beautiful & kind hearts . They are the best during Covid-19 Period

My wife had two hips replaced by Dr. Evan Watts; one before and one after Covid. The results were superlative. From first hearing from Michelle in Dr. Watts’ office, to attending joint school, pre-Op consultations, registration, the OR team, O/N and hospital care personnel, discharge planning and leaving with a porter from MSH, I could not give higher praise to the many names that would be on my list! I applaud and thank you all! Covid forced some adjustments but during both surgeries, the entire process and entire Markham Stouffville Hospital team was exemplary.

I spent some time here last year and was nursed back to good health. Big thank you to the wonderful Dr. Sheikh and nurses Amy and Wendy for all the love and support you gave ❤

Derek Taylor

Great hospital. Clean and quick at emergency. The maturity ward is amazing. Could use more food options inside though. Parking is expensive too.

Joey Lim

I gave birth to my son in January, the nurses were amazing esp the one (Nancy) who was there for me since I was admitted and she took great care of me till the end. The doc was alright could have been better.. This rating is to the nurses on duty and thank you for everything!

Andrew “Tactix” James

Tried to book an appointment to see a hematologist (as per referral from my family doctor) and none of the staff seemed to know where to transfer me. I was on the phone for 30 mins being transferred back and forth to different departments until I was finally informed in a condescending manner that the office was closed. Some of the staff just don’t seem to care or have any interest in wanting to help you. I understand that you work in a stressful environment but I’m sure people would be a little more sympathetic of that if you the staff showed a little empathy. Good customer service goes a long way.

Tonsillectomy was a walk in the park thanks to Dr. Halik. The nurses in over night recovery were amazing. Incredibly friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Nicole, Emily, Priscilla (sorry I forgot the night shift nurses name, but she was awesome!) The caterers and everyone at the hospital for making this a visit that turned out to be beyond my expectations especially during this trying time. Thank you!

With this not being the only issue. I'm actually starting to dislike Markham Stoufville Hospital. How is such a big hospital with many staff giving such poor service. Patients are ringing the bell buts its taking them 1-2 hrs to get taken care of. Spent millions of dollars extending and making the hospital bigger, but claim they ran out of towels so you have to go get your own. They do not care for the patients.

Best hospital in Ontario. Went to Ajax Hospital and was mis diagnosed and sent home, rude and impatient emergency doctors. Decided I deserve better and went to Markham Stouville and they saved my life. Every nurse, doctor , surgeon treated me with great care and compassion. Professional and top notch care. Do not go anywhere else.

At 72 I have been blessed with good health and barely needed requiring hospital service. Due to a fall on ice I broke my wrist and it eventually needed to be surgically stabilized with a titanium plate. With emergency visit , follow up surgery and another 2 visits involving applying plaster, fibreglass cast and removal of cast the service was consistently courteous, friendly and caring. Not once did I feel neglected. Thank you to the staff at Markham Stouffville Hospital. This hospitals service is second to none. ????????????????

JOEL the ultrasound technician!!! just ask to be served by him! I have been wasting my time going to Uxbridge hospital and the lady technician there is horrible .She knew I am pregnant with first child and she would not speak to me at all, wont show the baby at all and not allowing me to hear the baby's heart. JOEL is a blessing.. of course he cant give you medical information, but he is a professional, you can tell he has experience , he makes you feel comfortable and he loves what he does which is so beautiful to see. Finally a nice person to interact! i will never go to Uxbridge again and will drive 30 extra minutes just for Joel! Thanks Joel , you are a rock Star! the Greek preggo! :-)

My gf went for a covid test, and was treated very terribly with the whole covid prosses, they where rude and not helpful when she had taken the park ticket receipt instead of her paid parking ticket to get out of the parked area and the only solution they gave her was to pay $20 dollars on top of the payment for the time she has been park in there paid parking or to go find it. On top of the there was no clear arrows on the floor to direct people from coming in and coming out and the lady that was serving her who was extremely rude just told her to look on the floor instead of just pointing to which way she should go through. avoid this place at all times they clearly hate what they do and they hate their jobs.

I was originally admitted for kidney stones, I was 38 weeks pregnant and healthy otherwise. The Midwife ward that did my assessment was fantastic to say the least, I was comfortable and taken care of quickly. I moved to the OB delivery ward and stayed with them for 4 days while the urologist and OB came up with a plan to induce. The doctors all kept me well I formed and the nurses went over and above to ensure I was as comfortable as possible. Nurse Nicole and her "twin" were on shift while I delivered and being a FTM they coached me through every step. Even Erin at reception ensured I stayed hydrated and fed! I couldn't recommend this hospital more to anyone looking to deliver. The OB's and nursing staff are exceptional and its truly a hospital that is well equipped with the right staff and resources to meet all your needs! We delivered a healthy girl on October 18th!

Had a baby emergency and they rushed us in right away. Everyone was friendly and attentive. Thank you for the help!

Markham Stouffville Hospital is The Right Choice: Excellence, Expertise Experience, Professionalism all the staff and especially the nurses are fully engaged, very pleasant, courteous and professional. All the staff are helpful informative and are amazing even when they are very very busy. MHS Cleanliness was excellent. At the Emergency Room on Monday everyone was so wonderful with my Motherinlaw, (83) from checking in process to finish and release, they were so professional, so kind, courteous and the lady ER Doctor was perfect. On Tuesday I had two booked MRI’s, the MSH staff the ladies were unbelievably kind, professional explaining the entire process, and they were fully engaged, positive very happy and kind, it was great to see. I have had two Grandsons born here one 7 months ago, and one 3.5 years ago, absolutely amazing staff, nursing and obstetrics personnel & doctors. In my opinion MHS has made a lot of significant positive improvements! I have become a fan again!! Note in closing Alan Bell is so loyal, kind, actually listens to you, works tirelessly. Alan Bell as a fundraiser is amazing to!!

Every staff we encountered was kind, patient and compassionate; from the doctors and nurses to the registration staff. All of them 5*. There flow of patients however seemed wanting. -For the triage, you have to wait in a line up; how about a ticketing system so your sick patients can take a seat. I was standing in the lineup for 45mins. - To pick up my results the next day, I had to lineup for the triage again! They took my blood pressure etc just for me to pickup my results. - in the two days I was there, they asked me for my address and emergency contact info 5 times!

Don't ever go to this hospital if you want to see your loved one alive .My brother died because didnt have the right treatment at the right time. They don't know how to diagnose he's infection. Keep on saying Infection and trying antibiotics but non of the Dr are well educated to come out with the right treatment and medication. We wanted to move him out to Sunnybrook hospital they denied. All the Dr and Nurses are not doing their job to safe a life they are still learning and killing patients without proper treatment. Our family lost a life because of DR AND NURSES carelessness. All I am asking every one not to go to this hospital and move them out as soon as you find out if not helping.

I gave three stars to this institution because despite the meticulous treatment that my spouse receive while getting a hip replacement. It's my opinion that the administration fell short to provide an environment that was free from harassment and fear for Nefertiti and I who were not treated with dignity or respect. However, I must elucidate that in spite of my mistreatment by staff due to my working dog Nefertiti, I came away from the situation with respect for one of the managers by the name of Tina who quickly brought down the temperature on the situation at the time. She apologized for the madness and fixed the problem so that my spouse and I could have a decent time during his procedure. But the next day, I came upon the same mistreatment in the lobby by front line staff with my medical alert working dog. The service dog issue is bigger than one manager and needs to be address from the very top of the hospital administration. I must add, the parking manager and staff were extremely polite and considerate towards Nef and I. I want them to know how much we appreciate their tender care. And for Manager Tina, nurse Darwin, Yolanda and Soni you stood out from your colleagues because of your kindness, and respect towards others. We send Love ,light and kindness

Though there the team of doctors and nurse staff z well trained and are caring but there had been some avoidable slips....

I gave birth to my baby in this hospital on May 2021 Labour department was good nurses are excellent. Dr. Chan deliver my baby it was a normal delivery and he was good. Nurse Fairy did a very good job also other nursers were very helpful. I'm highly disappointed about the postpartum unit. We stayed in a privet room. The bed was awful. I couldn't sleep on it or sit on sit comfortably. It made my back pain worst. Nursers were careless ( most of them) i stayed 24 hours and they didn't send my meals (they said they forgot) luckily there was a Tim. I highly recommend there breastfeeding clinic. Specially Rose and John. They are amazing and really helpful. This is my overall experiance and i need to say hospital was clean and tidy .

Preet Jas

5 stars for the nuses and labour department. But i dont know why they did not claim my private room charges from my insurance right away or may be fews days later.. they tried to send bill to them when i canceled the insurance after 17 days. Now insurance do not want to pay for that because my insurance is cancelled. $260 hospital is asking me to pay for their delayed service. They should've claimed it right away then insurance would cover it. Now hospital delayed service is costing me money for that i already paid for a month to my insurance. Do you guys want us to pay for the insurance for entire year if you do not claim for a year. Even i do not use insurance for all those months.??? How do i know that you are not going to claim my bill for 20 days and i should not cancel it until then ??? Or i should just continue paying my insurance knowing may be you guys are going to take a year to claim from my insurance?? Ridiculous

The best hospital in the region. Well equipped and well staffed. Still expect a long wait in emergency but they make every attempt to get critical care moving very quickly. The hospital is very modern with all types of areas of interest if you just want to walk around the property. Plenty of parking but expensive. Just think of it as a $20 contribution if you are there a long time for a worthwhile cause and hospital.

Kevin R

We live in Scarborough and would rather drive out to this hospital anyday!! Clean hospital, extremely professional staff, ample parking ($4/half hour). What impressed me was when we were in the emergency dept. waiting to be seen by a doctor, and one of the nurses came out and let everyone know that they knew it was taking a while, but they were working as quick as possible to have everyone seen. That almost never happens in any GTA hospital I've had the misfortune of finding myself in. Hands down best hospital in the area!

You need an appointment. Please update this on your website.

Beelikemike

We gave birth to our first born here and the service we got was just outstanding! We had friendly nurses who actually care and you can feel that they loved their jobs! We are definitely gonna have our second child here in the strollery child birthing centre!

Kathy Hendriks

I love this hospital. The doctors, nurses, and staff are amazing! I had my children there. Emergency is efficient with their triage system meaning that it's not first come first serve. Patients are evaluated first then fast-tracked depending on their condition. You can look up wait times to be triaged on their website and these are accurate. I've been to the fracture clinic as well as day surgery...all good experiences and felt cared for. When you schedule an appointment whether it's for day surgery or a CT Scan, they are punctional! I've been to other hospitals that are closer to home, however Markham-Stouffville is worth the 20 minute drive.

MrKamechan

Hmmm. I've read some of the reviews for this hospital, and this is my take... They saved my father's life when he came in suffering from a heart attack, (-triage nurse did not hesitate and gave him treatment right away). And my son was born in this hospital. I'm very grateful. Thank-you MSH~~! EDIT: They saved my mom, too: cancer surgery. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you.

Kash

This hospital has great nurses and wait times are not horrific for smaller surgical procedures and scans. However, the registration team needs a bit more training on where to direct patients. I was scheduled for a nasal biopsy earlier this week, and was directed to the wrong part of the building '. I speak fluent English, and do not mumble. Based on the registrations direction, I waited in Surgical Waiting Room for 20 minutes, meanwhile my ENT doctor was waiting on me in another part of this large hospital. I then decided to call the doctor's office (adjacent building), and his staff directed me to the right spot, which was on the opposite end.

THE WORST HOSPITAL, WORST STAFF & WORST DOCTORS I CANT BELIEVE THE WAY THEY TREAT PATIENTS. MY MOM WAS ADMITED HERE THE REASON SHE IS NO LONGER ALIVE IS INCOMPETENT GARBAGE HOSPITAL NURSES NOT CHECKIN ONTIME DOCTORS KEEP EXPERIMENTING TILL HER LAST DAY IN THIS WORLD THEY WERE NOT SURE WHAT WAS WRONG AND 4 DAYS AGO MY DAD HAD A ABDOMINAL PAIN TOOK HIM THERE THEY WERE CLUELESS WHATS THE ROOT CAUSE AND ITS BEEN 4 DAYS THAT WE R WAITING FOR HIS BLOOD REPORTS AND CT SCAN DOCTORS AND NURSES HAD NO CLUE WHEN THE REPQRTS COMING AND GAVE US 2 DATES FOR CT SCAN N GOT CANCELED AND WHEN I ASKED DOCTOR LEE WHATS GOING ON HE SAID HE DONT KNOW THE ANSWER SO WE WALKED OUT OF THAT MESS PLEASE DONT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES TO THIS BUTCHER HOUSE !!!!!!!!!

Kumaran S

Brought our grandma here. Let me tell you this, they do not take care of the patient. When a patient presses the button to call the nurse, they ask what they need, but if the patient doesn't respond they won't come. What if the patient can't talk or is having some kind of emergency. Unless you annoy them, they won't change the sheets. Very unprofessional. Worst hospital in the region I have been to.

alana dove

This hospital has the worst nurses, they are so disrespectful. If you don't like to work with people, don't do a job that involves people. I was at the emergency last year and the nurses there at that part of the hospital were very disrespectful of my body, they exposed my chest without asking permission, they treated me disrespectful. I wasn't disrespectful to them, I wasn't interrupting, I was allowing them to do what they had to do. When you are a patient under the care of nurses or doctors, you should be treated with respect, something I haven't experienced here. I was transferred to another room to stay for the night, this is where a met another nnurse who was disrespectful. I have type 1 diabetes and one of the nurses didn't know much about type 1. She was controlling when I should take my insulin, based on when other patients took insulin. I usually take insulin before i eat because I would count the carbs and calculate how much insulin to inject. I would take it early so that I don't get a headache after I eat. I kept explaining to her that it's not right for her to take control of that and as a person who had type 1 diabetes for a long time, I would know what is appropriate for me. I felt like she disrespected me and that's not right. i also had my brother and my boyfriend try to explain to her because she clearly wasn't listening to me and guess what she did, she basically told them that she was the nurse and she knew what she was doing. But she had no clue. Also told them that they weren't respecting her but they were, she is the one who was not respectful. I don't understand how some people choose to be a nurse and feel like they have authority over you. My sister in-law gave birth recently and the nurses and the gynecologist were so unprofessional at the fourth floor. They kept denying her and saying that she is not ready to come in. Long story short, kept telling her she is not due yet and smirking while she says that. Her water breaks and they yell at her telling her why she didn't notify her (the nurse) after my brother has told the nurse multiple times that she needs assistance. What kind of nurse yells at the patient after their husband has told you that the baby is coming, when i heard that it made me cry. Such terrible service, if you can't do the job there are plenty of people who have studied to be nurse, will be happy to take your place.

The covid assessment testing nurse Younique, I hope I spelled your name right, was amazing and made the whole experience super safe and comfortable. Please give our support to all the front line workers like her who holds down the fort!

Come to this hospital if you also want to have your arm like this two days after your blood test.

Emily Mulvihill

Huge facility that is both clean and pleasant to be in. Fast and caring nurses & overall flow of patients is efficient. Wait times are usually pretty low. The doctor I saw was very quick, to the point and thorough. The experience overall was pleasant overall given the circumstances that I was sick. There is plenty of parking although kind of pricey and can be a long walk from the car to the building.

elizabeth

Nurses and care received here were outstanding. People who are rating this hospital low because they had to wait longer than expected is not a testament to the quality of this hospital. I chose my midwives because they delivered at this hospital. I received outstanding care from the dr who performed my emergency c section and the nurses who tended to me for the few days after I was recovering. The breast feeding clinic was so helpful the nurses there were efficient and quite funny.

Kristine Galvan

This is t the closest hospital, it isn’t the most convenient, but the staff and experience during my mom’s stay made it worth the trip every single time. There’s nothing like feeling absolutely confident about your procedure because of the people who are so kind and patient in taking care of you. The hospital is very clean, accessible and comfortable for a short term stay.

Syed Ahmed

I am very happy to have a very honest review of my recent stay in the Markham Stouffville Hospital. Middle of August 2020 I had my TURP procedure performed by Dr. Sheikh. Six weeks gone by and I am very excited to say job well done. Everyone including Dr. Sheikh and rest of the team did an excellent job. Thank you once again for your kindness and guidance for my speedy recovery. God bless you all.

I wish I could give negative "stars"; this hospital sickens me to my core. Poorly managed staff with no regard to industry best practices. To them the patients are mere numbers providing a steady stream of revenue. Such establishments provide no value to the society in which they exist in; but rather corrode the value from individual lives.

rue marconi

Over the years, I have been a patient in many hospitals. I was amazed with the care I received from the staff at this hospital!!!!! It began as soon as I walked in the door. The receptionist was patient, helpful and considerate. The nurses went out of their way to answer all questions I had and to make me as comfortable as possible. My surgeon is compassionate and highly skilled. The building is very clean and the rooms where I waited were comfortable. I am so thankful that I had my surgery at Markham Stouffville Hospital.

Rong Geng

Staff is very knowlegable. The hospital is not as crowded as other hospital. My husband had this very vare congenital cyst of liver. And the doctor and all other staffs were taking very good care of my husband. I also give birth at this hospital and I'm very satisfied with my delivery experience. I got a lot of help from breastfeeding clinic as well.

Lindsay Stockert

This hospital just doesn't get what the needs of their patience are. I arrived at 2am with my 1 year old baby who had a high fever of 39.3 I only saw the triage nurse, she was lovely and earned the 2 stars. I left after 2 ½ hours as I just got to a room and no one was coming. For a place the mayor calls a city. markham stouffville hospital shouldn't just have 1 doctor on at your large emergency hospital that service more then the city of markham is shameful. Two patience an hour were coming in and still no site of the doctor. Go elsewhere because they don't care.

Was there because of extreme pain due to herniated disk. Was seen by surgeon Dr. Kevin Koo within hours followed by CT Scan, right away he decided for surgery two days later and got me in for MRI the next day. He explained everything so clearly and always had a smile on his face just like a family member, he made me feel so comfortable. When I went for my MRI my husband dropped me and went to park the car, the lady at registration came out of the cabin seeing me in pain and said she will start the process so I don't have to wait. I was done by the time my husband came back amazing and the staff for MRI was very experienced, concerned and caring!!! Went back for the surgery the next day the doctor and everyone I was seen by was so friendly and caring. Surgery was done without a problem and as I woke up I had three nurses around me to help me recover and get rid of the pain. Soon I was seen by the surgeon he told me what he did and assured everything was okay. The nurses kept checking on me till I went home and was even escorted by a volunteer to my car. God bless all the people working there, THANK YOU for everything, keep doing an excellent job!!!!

Cori Flower

Amazing hospital, great staff here big though so easy to get lost, lol. My only issue on 1 occasion was I had a 5am MRI appt and even though I went to the exact section that emerg nurse directed me to go to, but there wasn't a soul around, I literally could've filmed myself skipping thru the whole dept if I wanted to and no one would've been the wiser! Lol. Fortunately the only person I did eventually find was a custodian, who actually unlocked a 'shortcut' door for me, which led to a short hallway leading exactly to where the MRI lab was! Bless you Mr. Custodian! That's why I only gave 4/5.

5 Stars for staff and hospital premises. 0 stars for billing department Hospital is amazing with its level of care. I've delivered twice there and my husband has gone multiple times to the ER with minimal wait. Doctors and Nurses are wonderful. They listen to all your needs. HOWEVER. The billing department is extremely frustrating to deal with. They don't follow up on calls and you have to chase after them to get the information you need so that you can make the claims for insurance. I've been dealing with this issue since July. It is now November and the issue is still not resolved.

S ss (Wanderer)

My experience in general at the Markham Stouffville Hospital has been quite positive the few times I have been there. My last visit, particularly at the ER, was positive. The staff was doing their best to see all the patients despite being short-staffed amid the pandemic. Some staff were more polite than that others but cannot blame them. You can see they are dealing with many different patients with different personalities. I cannot say enough positive things about the staff that looked after my concerns. One particular doctor made the most difference. Dr. Jatinder Kaur Juss. She was exceptional in getting all my symptoms, medical history and listening to my issues and concerns. You would hope all doctors are like her, but in my experience, she is the first doctor who took the time to hear out all the concerns and symptoms.

Asma Syed

This hospital has inexperienced doctors in their ER and are dismissive of people from under represented groups. White doctors dismissing patients of colour all the time. This is NOT A JOKE!!!

MISYYZ

What a great place. I complain about taxes until I end up here and realize how lucky we are. Great doctors, nurses and staff. I also liked the food.

Nick Zhang

Very disappointed in this hospital. My mom checked into the hospital because of gallstones and stayed in the hospital for 10 days. The only 2 stars are given to the few nurses that are absolutely amazing (Jennvy, Alisa, Alisha, Terry Ann) they were responsible and truly took great care of patients. Compare to the other ones who are literally useless, unresponsive, rude and irresponsible. Imagine laying on a hospital bed ringing the bell calling the nurse and having to wait forever for someone to come. What if something happens? What if the patient is in danger? Why are the nurses and social workers frequently laughing and talking loudly in the hallways and near patients bed? Didn’t we send our loved ones to the hospital to rest and heal? Let’s talk a little bit about cleanliness. The hospital looks very clean on the outside. But can anyone imagine there are - although not many but definitely not few - flies in the patients room?! My mom shares a room with another patient who unfortunately cannot move by herself (god bless her health). The nurses only changes her once per day and of course the room smells worse than a toilet and attract many flies. This is UNACCEPTABLE!

Zoë Allen

Went to ER xmas morning for what turned out to be pneumonia. All staff members from the triage nurse to registration to the ER nurses/doctors were very kind. Was promptly and respectfully given treatment. All staff seemed as if they genuinely cared for your health. I am thankful for the very pleasant experience.

Darshan Sritharan

Currently waiting at the fracture clinic for a follow up appointment with Dr.Crystal Smith. My appointment was supposed to be at 10am. It's currently 12:10pm and there are still people ahead of me. Not the first time this as happened. Waited an hour and a half the last time I was here as well for a scheduled appointment. How do you explain being 2 + hours behind schedule for an appointment at 10 in the morning??

M LS

The hospital is newly updated and looks great. There are a lot of hard working staff and nurses and doctors who truly care about their patients but the emergency room is awful. After ending up there one night very sick, I was sitting in a very full waiting room with many other people. When the doctor came into the waiting room she proceeded to discuss my results with me right where I sat. She spoke loudly and talked in detail about my personal problem. To say the least it was humiliating. After she left, the people in the room were very sympathetic with me, but another doctor came in and did the exact same thing with a woman sitting next to me. I understand if it's busy and there are no rooms available but at least move into a hallway or something. Very unprofessional and I will not be going back for that reason alone.

Andrew Lee

Wife just gave birth a few days ago and we had to come back to the clinics a few times. Had no issues with MSH until today. Been here 4 times last week and they had no issues with me being with my wife to bring to the clinics but all of a sudden I'm not allowed anymore. My wife had a c section and is in a lot of pain. Can barely walk normally so I need to be there to help with the baby, carry the diaper bag and handle the stroller. Stage 3 of opening was on the 16th for people to enjoy and have fun but I cant even be there to help my wife and newborn at the moment. Forced my wife to carry the bags and push the stroller on her own.

I went to North York Hospital for major abdominal pain and swelling, waited 2 hrs and left as it was jam packed full of people. The next morning I went on line to Emergency Wait Times Markham Stouffville to find out how many people were waiting in emergency, there was only 1 person so I drove to Markham Stouffville. I arrived at 6:50 am and saw Dr. Ragheb, by 7:45 am The nurse and doctor were amazing, very caring and gentle when putting in IV. I had to wait for a CT Scan and blood work, after my results came in I saw the doctor again to find out my results and left at 12:50. The hospital is very organized and clean. Well worth the drive.

Samantha Russell

My Dad had a procedure booked today. Having a nephrostomy tube inserted. He is 78 and needs assistance. My Mom went in with him but was not permitted to stay. Under the Covid 19 policy on the website he would be considered a vulnerable patient requiring cognitive assistance. I assisted him just last Thursday when he went for a bone scan. Extremely upsetting for my Mom and my Dad. Now we wait for a phone call to go pick him up. Zero compassion and understanding. And clearly no concept of how to follow policies.

Brad Morse

Wait times are considerably long. Came in the emergency at 3am due to a dental abcess causing substantial pain. Had to wait 3 hours with only 20 people admitted. Staff were what expected professional and well trained. Another bad experience again. My mother in law went in for chest pain at 9 pm last night and has been waiting for cardiologist for over 11 hours. Very unprofessional nobody should have to wait for something that can be so severe.

Cindy W.

Went for Covid-19 Test at MSH. All seemed to be organized and wait time was about an hour. Staff were friendly and professional. However, they charged us $17.50 for parking, which is absurd! If the ON Gov't wants to reach their target of 20k tests per day, they should waive the outlandish hospital parking charges if you're only there for the Covid Test. Also, seems that the procedures differ from one hospital to the next. Some are walk-in, some require an appointment, some will only test if you have symptoms or suspected exposure to an infected person; Some swab both nostrils, while some do one nostril and one throat swab -- how can we rely on the results when they don't even do the same test across the board? MSH only gets 3 stars because they charged for parking for the Covid Test. No wonder they don't do drive-thru here...they would lose out on all that parking revenue. >(

I am at ER waiting room, first of all, same as usual, wait forever, but that's not the point, the point was while we all siting in this room at 5:15am, everyone waiting their result and leave. Two Chinese young couple, his girl friend was sick and sleeping, same as the rest of the patients, but he keep taping on the floor, it was so annoying. I was asking the guy stop doing this because it is interrupt everyone plus your girl friend, but he refuses, so I called the nurse about that, all the nurses were heard what I ask them to help, but noone come to solve the problem. I was really trying to teach him a lesson, lucky his girlfriend stopping him, otherwise it will another 2 new patients here. But what the nurses react, makes me so disappointed......... never come back this place again.

Any time I have come to the emergency department, I have been treated with care, compassion, and understanding. I have had two surgeries and many trips to the fracture clinic and the service was amazing. Dr Santone and the ortho techs are incredible. Best care anywhere.

Tony Costa

I cannot complain - the staff from the doctors, social workers and nurses have all been a pleasant. I feel as though it is increasingly rare these days to receive the kind of service my wife had received here. Quite grateful for it. Thank you

My grandpa is terminally ill and the nurse Jen and nurse manager Jennifer in East 2 are uncompassionate and downright disrespectful. Even terminally ill patients only get two visitors per day. So I asked them if my grandpa passes tomorrow will they be held accountable? I told them they can talk to my lawyer who is on speed dial for this reason if they cannot follow the bylaw. Under paragraph 15 of subsection 3(1) of the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007, every resident who is dying or who is very ill has the right to have family and friends present 24 hours per day. A person visiting a very ill or palliative resident is an essential visitor under Directive #3. The home has discretion to determine how many essential visitors may visit a very ill or palliative resident. In exercising this discretion, the home should consider the physical/infrastructure characteristics of the home, its staffing availability, and the current status of the home with respect to personal protective equipment (PPE). This subsection should apply to all patients who are terminally ill. They muted my call and did not resolve my problem. Then to make it worst they sent four security guards to send me and my husband away. They treated us like we have no rights. I understand it is during Covid 19 but for your hospital to have such uncompassionate incompetent staff during a pandemic is shameful. If anything you should be more compassionate to those family who do not know when they will lose their loved one. Clearly Ontario needs to teach front line workers to be more compassionate!

This review is for the labour & delivery unit. The staff at this unit is simply amazing! Everything from labour to birth until the discharge was just unremarkable! Huge shout out to a few people out there-Dr Hui Jue Zhang and her staff at the high risk clinic, i cannot thank the nurses at the labour and delivery unit enough, the entire birth was simply managed by the nurses, Dr Arnold and Dr Neil Chang with such smoothness. Even after the birth, the nurses and the lactation consultants are absolutely brilliant. Thank you to Kaitlyn, Selena, Hamna, Erin, Kaya, Joyce and one more person who i am not able to recollect the name of-another lactation consultant with greenish eyes and straight hair. Great staff who made the birth of my son one of the most memorable time of my life with such happiness and contentment. Thank you MSH.

Have gone to this hospital many times for various reasons. Pretty good with everything. 4/5 for a couple of hiccups in emergency: - Once an emergency doctor prescribed a medication for me that should never be given to a pregnant women especially during her third trimester (which I was). _ On another occasion, they said they had the tools to cut a crooked ring off a swelling finger but it took a long time to find someone strong enough to do it. In any case, this is a great hospital. This team works so hard for the community. A great big THANK YOU!

It's a pretty nice hospital nice people that work there

I was a walk in patient at 3:30am with abdominal pain so great I was in tears. I was given an anti nausiant and told the doctor would see me shortly. 2 and half hours later I tracked down a nurse to find out what the wait was. I was told that they were cleaning a room and would be seen shortly. Half hour later I was taken to a dirty room, hair balls on the floor, dusty dirty floors and diagnostic sample supplies scattered accross the floor. The doctor came in and was very quick to give a possible prognosis and sent me off for a urine sample. On return with the sample I expressed concern with blood in my stool and was given three sample vials to go home and collect a sample but no papper work to follow up. Talking to the family health physician, I was told the sample bottles weren't filled out properly and with out a requisition the testing couldn't be completed. Six hours in the hospital to get zero answers. I am shocked and appauled at the lack of professionalism at this hospital. In future I'll be going to Newmarket or Uxbridge. This same unprofessionalism and forgetting about patients has happened to me on several occasions at this facility and no one wants to be accountable heir.

Khadija M.

Wow the staff are super efficient helpful and simply amazing at what they do! This hospitals ER is just amazing, the staff are kind and efficient and make an effort to make you feel comfortable. Thank you drs, nurses, receptionists at the ER.May GoD bless you guys and keep up the great work! ♡

This hospital I used to dislike going to due to the wait time. I am overly surprised in how this hospital has been improved. I was in an accident in Oshawa and de ided to come to this hospital on my own. Was seen by triage in emergency in the middle of the day on the weekend and being registered within 10 mins from them. Told to go to fracture clinic to get xra6s. By time we got there, someone was standing there waiting for me to get xrays done. Got it completed and walked back to the waiting room and waited less than 2 mins when I was told I had a hairline fracture and needed a wrist brace. They set me up with one and scheduled me for a follow up bone scan. Bone scan day I arrived for my first appointment at 9am. Someone came to the registration line apologized for our 2 minute wait and took 6 of us from the line (there seemed to be about 13 or 14 people infront of us) and she took us to an overflow area. They had me registered and to the clinic for my injection and prescan, was out of the hospital before 9:30. Returned at 11am and the tech was waiting in the central waiting room for me already. Walked me in for my full body bone scan and was done by noon. I think i spent more time in Tim's waiting for my breakfast order than I did over the 2 days I have been here. I have this hospital on the top of my list even though I live in the city.

Stefan Radovanovic

I broke my finger a bloody mess, and the triage nurse dude was really nice and pleasant person to work with. The doctor was friendly too despite effectively torturing me. The wait time wasn't too long. I arrived around 8 and left stitched up and in a splint about 2 hours later. Due to my great previous experience here and word of mouth, when my finger broke I said, don't take me anywhere but Markham Stouffville! Do not go to North York general.

My elderly mother is currently in palliative care here. The nurses, doctors, social workers, cleaning staff, have all been amazing. So thoughtful and compassionate. Also clear and informative. The hospital itself is lovely. Lots of natural light. A great link to the community centre, pool, and library via the second floor hallway. In the midst of my sadness I've walked down that hall and looked at all the laughing kids in the pool and older people committed to maintaining their health. The wall of plants, the great little cafe by the library, they've all helped me maintain my sanity at this difficult time. I'm thoroughly impressed with this hospital.

Best service always...we are proud to be a part of Markham Stoneville hospital ???? And Markham City..

My wife delivered our boy here yesterday. 3 out of 2 nurses are mean, stuck up and do not want to answer questions. Her doctor that supposed to deliver the baby left yell at her a hundred times said if you don’t know how to push then im going to leave…whhhhhaaaaat??? She left during delivery, and yelled at her 4 times using the opportunity to abuse her knowing that my wife delivered alone by herself as i could not be there due to covid and no vaccinations… i will have that doctor reported. DO NOT deliver your baby in this hospital!!!

Design Interior Services

The worst hospital on earth. I feel like I am in a third world country where they don’t care if a baby is crying with high fever or in my case That I have an infection in my face and I am here waiting for 4 hours while they all laugh and talk about vacation . And the hospital is not even busy but they simply don’t care. Doctors and staff are the worst in Ontario probably. Is my 3rd time here and all three are horrible. The doctor that is supposed to give me an anesthetic for my pain and nurses are watching the raptors game while I am in pain waiting for medicine . Unbelievable!!! What is this???!!!!!

Re the emergency department, the waiting times are reasonable and I feel they do their best at trying to move things along as efficiently as possible. Triage nurse was super nice. One young male nurse (most likely right out of nursing school) who was responsible for drawing blood was too rough even though I mentioned about my dainty veins. He was unsympathetic and didn't even attempt to draw from my arm (even though other nurses have been able to given a bit of patience). I had a bruise on my hand for three weeks and it's still sore to the touch after five weeks. The site also was bleeding profusely until another female (much kinder and older) nurse came to help patch up the draw site because I bled through a stack of gauze. First night-attending ER doc I saw took the time to listen which was a good surprise for me because usually they just want to rush you out. He couldn't do much but send me home with pain meds but I appreciated the time and referral he made for scans the next day. The next day I had to come back for a CT scan. That dept was wonderful. The technician was able to administer my IV (IN MY ARM) the first try. Why? Because she TOOK THE TIME and CARE to look for it AND made an effort to make me comfortable with the whole process while being efficient with the test. Thank you to this department. Then I had to go back to the ER for results. That wait took longer and the day-attending ER doc was not as good. He was dismissive and could not offer any explanation for my severe pain other than "sometimes people experience pain and we don't know why". Hmm... Ok... Thanks, I think?! Then he felt the areas where I complained about pain, shrugged his shoulders and released me.... Overall, MSH is one of the better hospital experiences but it's no wonder why so many people turn to natural remedies or homeopaths when patients receive no working diagnosis or relief after spending two days in and out of the ER.

The hospital, ER was good. Doctors were telling us what would happen. Doctors at 3C ward has no communication with patient's family. My father was there for a week, doctors did not communicate well with the family of patients, rather, they simply wanted to kick you out. Irregular high heartbeat rate. They used medication to lower it. Senior patient who was there, no information re what was wrong with the conditions of his, no explanation, no critical improvement. All they did was giving a list of medications, not knowing if they really helped as they had no certainty of what was wrong with his condition, and he could not really walk ... there you went, the ambulance to take him back. So irresponsible. Now, after 4 days, my father is back to emergency with too low the heartbeat rate. Without knowing the details but kicked the senior patient out. I am heading to MSH now.

We waited for a very long time and when we asked to clarify what we would be paying for the front desk said one thing and the nurse who did the check up for my husband said another. When we asked again they said that the check up process we are doing is included in the price that we received from the front desk. Couple weeks later they send out a bill and the price went extremely HIGH. Almost doubled the amount we were quote... Very disappointed in the knowledge shared with all staff.

Vathsan

I don't know why hospitals charge for parking. People go here because they are sick. Not to pay for parking. Also if you get any x-rays, MRI, etc done here they won't give you a copy. They charge money on top of what they claim from OHIP. I wanted to get a second opinion but they would not give me my MRI unless I pay for the CD-ROM.

KKK

This was by far the worst hospital I've ever been to!. Me, my dad and my sister have waited around 9 hours patiently waiting, 6 hours just to see the results of the blood test and CT scan for my dad. It turns out they mixed up some sort of blood testing and then they didn't bother telling us anything when asked. The nurse as well as the doctors were extremely rude and looked as if they weren't taking things seriously. In the end they told us nothing was wrong but my family definitely plan to go to another doctor. Wish I can give a negative rating. Just a warning don't come to this place.

杨帆

I don't know what the signs and reactions happen to everyone after the second injection. All I know is that I fell ill that day, with fever, vomiting, weakness... I believe that the physical condition after being really infected with COVID-19 virus will be more serious, painful and closer to death than the response of the vaccine. In order not to experience the same pain again, please complete the two-dose vaccination task! Give you and your family more health protection!Hospitals need to complete an appointment online for COVID-19 testing and related vaccinations, and go to the designated place of the hospital according to the time to complete the project. ⚠️NO WALK-IN ⚠️

george lin

Be careful with choosing this hospital for ICU. Excellent nursing staff but no doctors evenings and weekends. Important if your loved ones need emergency surgery on weekends or evenings. No renal dialysis if your kidneys fail in ICU and you are too weak to be transferred to another hospital for dialysis. Basically a death sentence.

Jimmy Huang

The hospital is quite new as of 2019, in terms of technology and the building. Most staff seem nice and helpful. Although waiting time might be an issue, at the end of the day everyone there is busy so I can understand if there is a wait for appointments or emergency. Expect 1-5 hours of stay while you are here.

Heather Garsone

We had the need to attend the ER on July 13th for my mother. From nurse Sammi, to Dr Jang, the porter and the X-ray and CT techs mom felt very well treated. Dr Jang was a consummate professional with a fabulous bedside manner. He was respectful, listened and responded and made her feel comfortable. We feel very fortunate to have a facility such as this in Markham.

PAEDIATRIC GI CLINIC I went here with my 12 year old for his procedure of colonoscopy and endoscopy. DR. POPALIS performed the procedure. From the moment we walked in to the clinic, we were greeted by a family care specialist- Julie. Julie was supportive, informative and excellent with the children and parents. My son received a "love box" which is a box of goodies donated by the community. That made my son feel more comfortable. We were taken to a smaller room where there was an iPad, and an Xbox .the room was clean and colourful. Dr. Popalis came to the room to say hello. When it came time for my sons procedure, i was able to go with him into the room. The room is always intimidating. The nurses and doctors were so friendly and encouraging. That's the moment when my son got really anxious. When we were in the procedure room. I was able to stay with him until he was asleep from the sedation which took about 3 minutes. Julie escorted me out and told me to grab something to eat and where to sit. She came to find me once my son was moved into the recovery room. I wasn't able to see him at that moment but once he woke up, Julie came to get me right away. I was there when my son woke up. Yay! The nurses in the recovery room were so delightful! We had SARAH who was incredibly kind and compassionate. I felt like we received amazing care at this hospital. Dr. Popalis brought pictures to show us of some of the results she found. Although a formal diagnosis takes a few weeks, she told me what she believed to be going on and what our next steps were. Julie escorted us to the exit hallway. My son even revived a necklace with his name on it. After the procedure, Julie came to add beads of strength to his necklace. Each bead represented different strengths that he accomplished in that day. I highly recommend this hospital, and clinic. Thanks to everyone who made our visit as best as could be!

Just came back from this hospital and again, I am surprised by how well we are treated over there. Myself and my wife always have a great service when going there. Today, I had a young doctor that looks like a rockstar. Moreover, he was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions and took care of my issue. This hospital is taking good care of my whole family. Thanks to all the staff for all they are doing during this pandemic. Stay safe!

Kris Gearing

My son broke his humorous bone at school. Required surgery to have two pins put in. From the time we came in to emergency to when we were discharged the following morning he was treated like absolute gold. The professionalism, promptness, the caring and compassion he received the whole time was amazing. Thank you so much for making this very painful and traumatic experience and comfortable and quick as it could be. Bravo MSH

Recent additions complete to service the growing city of Markham and town of Stoufville. You'd think the reno would have included electronic signage to help people navigate inside but they relied on old fashioned signs. Regardless, it's now an even better health care facility. A tier 2 hospital for kids too.

We have been to Markham Stouffville several times over the years but lately their service, standard has been slowly going down. It was great reputation before. Don't know why the attention to patients, proper diagnosis, correct medication advise is completely gone wrong. I hope that the people who are sitting at the board of directors and those who are running the hospital wakes up and understands the situation is becoming very difficult for patients to put their trust back again to this hospital. We have had few scenarios. In both cases we waited to be seen by the doctors in the emergency section and then the doctor just Tells us it's nothing serious. No medication needed, blood work done and sent back home with pain medication. The pain became so crucial and painful that we had to rush to Toronto General hospital and they have been fabulous, got admitted, did ultrasound, Mrce, repeated blood pressure tests, blood works done in last 24 hours and have found out what the problem is. They are excellent. Very prompt service, very helpful. Now I just have a question to MSH. Why couldn't or didn't take his time to do the same things in our hometown hospital. He didn't think or didn't know that he should be thorough in his examination of the patients? Why only do 10% of his job........why not 100% I want to be able to trust my doctors and the hospital to take care 100% when we are sick and need their help.

I recently delivered my baby at markham Stouffville and I can definitely say that this is the best hospital. I had good care, communication throughout my stay there. All doctors and nurses were kind, patient and answered all my questions. I had to rush to the hospital in the morning for the delivery but I had made a phone call ahead explaining them what was going on. When I reached the hospital, I was taken in immediately and assessed. Great job and all praise to the doctors and nurses! I always recommend markham Stouffville to all my friends. They are using technology effectively in communicating with the patients and I feel it's very convenient to see everything in the app. I have had experiences with other hospitals where the care was really not up to the mark. So I am very greatful that I chose markham Stouffville for delivering my daughter.

Kes Lee

Best hospital in the the east end that we know of. Drove all the way from Whitby. Alex (who does the casts) is a stand up comedian. Awesome guys. Wait times for ER is online, never been longer than 3 hours wait in the last year coming in. Very efficient.

Samkit Nareshbhai Shah

One of the worst services. I tried calling them to confrim if i need an appointment and a health card to book an appointment as the website says no and google reviewers says yes. The lady talking was so rude/frustrated on something that she didnt even bothered to answer me properly and ordered me to book online and disconnected the call without answering any of my questions. If you are dealing to high volume calls you need to have patience. Highly disappointed.

Kumiko Lino

Two stars only for the nurse that helped my sister, and the nurse who bathed the baby. They made the stay worth it. Our experience here was sub par in the maternity ward. The rest of the staff was uninviting and uncaring. You would think that if your spouse can't stay, the nurses would at least be helpful (like they tell you). Instead, the majority left my sister to fend for herself. Asides from that, this was an awful experience for both family and patients. Don't have your children here!

Maria “Cooperdos” Rozents

My kid had endoscopy in this hospital. We were treated very well. Very friendly and knowledgeable doctors and nurses. My kid got a welcome box that keeped him occupied for entire day. Very clean. Well managed with hands on technology.

K Chui

My wife just had an surgery there. From diagnosis to several tests over the past two weeks the doctors and nurses were very professional and caring. On the day of operation every staff member we came across was well-mannered and friendly, and the entire process was very smooth. Top marks for this hospital.

Anna Sotnik

Giving 5 stars to Dr Brill - my angel. He basically saved my life and I 'll be forever grateful! The surgery department is clean and super organized. Staff is amazing! If you are looking for a great surgeon who really care about you - look no further. Dr Brill is the best doctor in Ontario so far, and I've seen a lot in the last few years

I had my baby in this hospital 2 weeks ago. I came back yesterday because my baby was sick. Since it was a weekend and the baby didn't have an appointment registration sent me to ER. I went there and spent almost the whole day. Then we finally saw a doctor who didn't even touch the child to have him examined he just ordered the child be weighed. After being weighed he told me its possible my son has acid reflux and that I should come back the next day to the newborn clinic. Smh. So why didn't they say that before billing my insurance. I waited today for the newborn clinic to call me and nobody did. When I called them that is when they found the referral for my son and gave me less than an hour to get there since the pedestrian is leaving at 4pm. Don't know if it's my fault that they didn't call. Also they request me to pay another $500 to see a pediatrician like what the heck was the $700 yesterday when the doctor didn't even touch the kid? This is extortion from a poor international student like me. If you use up all the insurance funds what do I do in future situations? Your finance team should look into this. It is pure extortion and it is unfair.

Faiza Lodhi

It was very fast and efficient. I only had to wait half an hour from the beginning to the end. The doctor discharged me and reassured me that I was fine. He even explained thoroughly as to what was going on with me. Prescribed medicines to help me with the pain. I went in because of respiratory infection. He explained to me when I need to come back and what to watch out for and asked me if I had any questions before he left. He didn't seem to be in a rush. He took his time. Thank you Dr. Jason that's his first name. I don't remember the last. The hospital was clean too. I am very impressed compared to Rouge Valley Centenary. This was by far the best hospital.

Cecilia Chan

Had a good experience delivering here. Nurses were friendly, and came to check up on us regularly. Minus one star for the expensive parking when the hospital is in the suburbs. If the weather is nice and you're just here for a checkup, can try finding local street parking that's free.

Celine Potter

My experience here has been nothing short of fantastic. Probably one of the best times at a hospital one could hope for, especially going through Emerge. The staff have been amazing and kind. The process is slow and tedious but I appreciate all the effort they've put in to making me feel as comfortable as possible. I hope I don't have to come back but I have no problem if I need to. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and supporting staff during this time.

MCF

I’ve always received the best care from MSH. Doctors are very knowledgeable and nursing staff was excellent. I was here for 5 days in 2017 and for day surgery in 2018. They made me comfortable and helped me so much when I needed it. Excellent follow up care as well. Great hospital, fast ER

fairzee

Staff was great! Wait times are a bit of a pain but expected when in a pandemic

I took my husband to the ER at MSH earlier in the year, he had been feeling weak for over a year and despite a barrage of tests arranged by his doctor, he had no diagnosis and was still feeling off. At MSH the clinicians were thorough and able to determine what the issue was - a GI tumour (GIST). Though it was sizeable, it was not easy to find, and only became clear when they did a second CT scan. The surgeon removed the tumour successfully and his prognosis is excellent. I had heard great things about MSH and instead of going to our local hospital I decided to go here instead - can't tell you how happy we are about that. Since then visits to the oncology clinic are handled very efficiently and attentively, staff are professional, friendly and don't let anything fall through the cracks. Highly recommended.

Eric Feng

The female nurses in the emergency room were some of the most disrespectful and rude attendance I had to deal with while I bought my mother in for urgent care. The least they can do is have a bit of respect, not waste time, and not tell a patient to shut it or make snarky comments. Completely unprofessional works, a disgrace to other health care workers.

Sheri Ellis

My bf fractured his ankle and I took him to the hospital and within no time he was taken care off. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The next day he had surgery and because I couldn't be there with him, the nurses called me to let me know how he's doing and kept me in the loop. I have never received such amazing service from a hospital.

It'sJustKylaney

It's a great Hospital, has all the Imaging and diagnostic services you would need. The nurses for the most part quite friendly and helpful. Now all you need to do is get past the 6-hour wait time in emergency. That being said it's certainly not the worst for wait times in Ontario, it is pretty up there though. Luckily they have the online wait times Checker where you can check and see how long you will be waiting before you go, so that's a little bit of a bonus at least. The doctors however, need some training in compassion, I went there because I had a torn meniscus in my knee, before the doctor left the room he decided to smack my knee and the pain was excruciating. Why he did that, I will never know, but it deters me from ever wanting to go back there.

I gave birth to my 2nd baby end of March, and I must say my birthing experience was fantastic. The nurses (especially Nicole) was amazing and my delivery doc was careful and explained everything in detail. The Post birth Baby and Mom clinic there was also amazing. The mid wives/nurses were very friendly and knowledgable. I highly recommend this hospital. Thank you, to all the amazing staff that took such good care of us!

I have to say thank you for the great service and care in taking care of my grandson only one year old and my daughter during these crazy Covid times My grandsons Paediatrician would not see him because of a cough and sickness nor would my daughters doctor They didn’t have Covid as my grandson had an ear infection and my daughter with her throat The care of an infant especially only one year old was so greatly appreciated as the staff of Markham Stoufville handle everything so professional Thank you to all the staff involved in Emerg Paul Sands Unionville

Tonight we went to the emergency department and waited for 10 hours and although we had an urgent letter from the family doctor, there was no attention. When I asked her emergency doctor her documents, she said these papers are nothing. They were saying we still have to wait 10 hours later. I and my wife couldn't stand it because we were more sluggish and uncomfortable and we signed out. I went to this hospital when my sugar was 20 and they kept it in a room for 2 hours and they did nothing. This is my second experience and I definitely hope to go again.

Stephanie Alexander

Had my first baby here in March and the staff at Markham Stouffville were amazing and from the day I came in for my induction, to my C-section, to being released, my experience was exceptional. Thank you so much for taking good care of me.

In February 2021 I woke up one morning unable to breathe I collapsed on the floor and moaned "Call 911",but noone answered.I kept calling barely able to breathe then I heard my wife open patio door and bring our dog Ginger inside after a walk. With my last breath I yelled,"Call 911.Shevdid so.I was coughing up huge amounts of pure blood.I was absolutely mortified that I was going to die before ambulance arrived.I finally made it to Markham Stouffville hospital and spent 6 days in hospital with SEPSIS.A very serious infection throughout my body. The nurses that took care of me in the Intensive care unit(ICU)were absolutely hero's.The amount of extra work they have to do because of COVID19 is unbelievable.I just want to give a massive Thank You to all the nurses at Markham Stouffville hospital for the absolute amazing hard job they do.Nurses do not get the recognition they deserve. I took my mother to their ER at around 10:00 am on a Friday. Got triaged within 10 mins, and seen by a couple of doctors within the following two hours. My mother was then admitted and received excellent care in the hospital ward. Very pleasant environment. Clean and bright. Excellent nurses and care. Excellent experience from ER to ward.

I went to the emergency room for a concussion and the experience was extremely bad. The nurse and stuff were condescending and not helpful. If you do not have ohip, you have to pay upfront otherwise they will not even arrange you in line to see a doctor. I didnt have enough money with me when I went in and had to wait for my friend to bring me the money to get arranged in line and waited for another 3 hours to see the doctor. Also, they do not deal with any insurance AT ALL. Other hospitals however will bill the insurance company directly. the doctor was irresponsible too. He simply asked me to touch my nose and then said i can go back to work right away. the next day I had extreme headache, loss of balance, and feel nauseated. I went to another hospital for check up and the doctor said that I should rest for at least a week before going back to work. also, that touch of my own nose cost dealing with unpleasant stuff, 3+ hours of wait time & $750

If you're considering about bringing someone into the ER or Mental Heath ward, I strongly recommended considering somewhere else, especially for rehabilitation or consoling. . As one of the other reviewer had stated, the food lacks quality and proper meal proportions and very unappetizing compared to an airplane meal. They will provide you with thin blankets and a shower which only has a one button, which only streams out cold water. The rehab activities were not the most uplifting activities towards improving or invigorating one's self. For instance, they'll make a person walk around the facility doing half-hearted arm stretches, then filling people into a small exercise room about the size of a very small bedroom (about 1 and 1/2 single bed length) for "light exercise". In terms of the staff within this ward are indifferent towards their patients. Most of the doctors and nurses tend to criticizes or be non-empathetic towards a patient's past and their past/current thoughts about the matter at hand. The same could be said about the front desk staff at ER. (small note, there was a pile of awful smelling vomit near the lobby washrooms, which was there for more than an hour with a wet floor sign next to it) Almost every "chat" with the doctor/nurses on a one on one session felt more like a hostile Q & A, since their tone of voice and mannerisms were more of a scientific approach towards towards the issues and how they can be resolved. They may even use a false helpful smile and tone of voice while dealing with your concern and forget to address the matter within a respectable time frame, even if it does not require immediate attention. I had also witness an older gentleman being yelled at by a doctor since he had fallen asleep in the TV room due to tiredness. However, I will state that there are a few helpful workers in this hospital... but only a few.

Extremely long wait for my 4 month old baby to see a doctor. Almost 5 hours

Nancy Legassicke

We had excellent and compassionate care this past weekend. We needed 3 visits to get a broken arm set perfectly so experienced emerg, the fracture clinic, and day surgery. Thank you so much to everyone who took such good care of us.

Great Hospital with friendly staff! I spent a week there in bed and I have got to say despite being extremely ill, I had fun. I may have gotten some special treatment though considering I was 20 back then ( maybe they thought I was gonna die, and was like you poor kid your a goner). It had a nice lounge where I could watch t.v, very clean atmosphere, could have some better food options though. The hospital parking is quite pricey now, it use to be quite reasonable to get a yearly pass or a 32 time visit pass. If I had to visit the hospital as often as I use to 2 years ago, I probably would have to spend 3 times as much on parking than I did then. The Hospital also has ample space to lock your bike.

was advised to wait an hour on results for an hour, doctor mentioned it should be done shortly, after waiting 2.5 hours had asked a nurse to check on the status of the ultrasound and was told the results are done and to wait for a doctor. Hours later and asking anothet doctor was rudely told to once again wait for a doctor. One of the most unsanitary hospitals I've ever visited

Sahel Ghadami

My experience was really great at this hospital, I was there for a procedure and both nurses Sonia and Andrew were amazing, caring polite and respectful unlike nurses in Southlake hospital! It's far from my home but it's well worth it! Hospital was clean and well managed!

Jevith Jeya

I dont think they understand what open communication is. Huge waste of time coming here. Your better off at any other hospital. Nurses keep you waiting in the dark while your waiting 24 hrs for a doctor to see you.

Breanna Coultis

Mental Heath outpatient department is horrible here. Can never get to an actual human which is very disappointing. When you call the line its just an automated voice message, wish there was a better system in place.

Daisy Wick

I haven't been here during COVID, so perhaps things have gone downhill (because of other reviews)? However I have been to Emerg here a few times, both for physical and mental health, and have never been disappointed by the staff. They all seem very empathetic and dedicated to their work. I have taken my husband here when we thought he had a stroke as well and we were seen within 5 mins of arriving because of the nature of the problem. The only negative I have to say is the care and aftercare you receive for mental health is not great - but my problem is more with the Canadian mental health system than this particular hospital. MSH staff do what they can to make your situation better.

Ran Xu

If there is 0 star I will give their emergency department that. Horrible wait time, stood in line around 6pm and waited 40 mins to just get triaged.... There was only 4 families before me. Triage nurses were so slow, and two were chatting and watching videos when they were just finishing up their shift. Horrible horrible staff attitude as well. Do not come to this place for emergency!

Anita Foley

Rec'd very good care .... both from doctors, nurses & other support staff. Food a 7 out of 10. However there's one huge problem that needs to be addressed and that's the frosted windows in patients rooms. Who suggested this very detrimental feature and why?? For patients who are bed bound and unable to walk plus no visitors allowed during these pandemic times, it can be very depressing not being able to see out. It can make one feel quite isolated as well. To be able to see cars, birds, weather, people etc does wonders for patients mental well being. Even staff can't supply a reason or purpose. Would suggest the hospital administration address this important issue asap. By the way I'm not the only one who finds it most annoying.

Worst, worst experience ever. I was assisting a widow with her son who has a mental illness. He was taken to the hospital on Thursday. We were told by the security guard and a nurse to wait in the waiting room on level 1 and a crisis team will come and speak with us. After waiting for four hours, we spoke to an emergency dept nurse nearby. She said she will find out if there is anyone available. She came back saying nurses were all busy and we just have to wait. We waited another hour but nobody came. We went back to the nursing station and were told that the crisis team member had spoken to the patient but was not aware that we were waiting for him in the waiting room. However he had just finished his shift for the day and he will be back the next day. We left with one of the staff member at the nursing station a list of medication that the patient had been taking and a phone number for the doctor to call. Next day nobody called. The patient's mother called several times through out the next couple days, left messages for the doctor and for the nurses to obtain an update about the patient. The reply was always, the nurse is busy and will call back. No doctor even called back. However, Pharmacy called asking for the list of medication again. The list was provided initially at the nursing station. It seemed there was no communication between the two depts. All this happened over three days while the patient was in the mental ward. Monday, we decided to go personally and see if we can meet the doctor or nurse. Around 1 pm we arrived at the hospital. To our greatest disppointment, both the doctor and the nurse were not available as again, they were busy. We left the hospital around 4 pm very disheartened. Soon after we reached home, at around 5 pm, we get a call from the patient that he is discharged by an inhouse chinese lady doctor. Reason, no beds. In severe weather conditions we were asked to pick up the patient who had mental illness. No updates from the doctor, no clue on what medication the patient was being treated with. Again we contacted the nursing station for details of the medication. The attending nurse advised that there is nothing he can assist us with as the patient has already been discharged by the doctor. It took us several hours drive to pick the patient up and reach home in the worst weather conditions. Serious lack of communication at this hospital.

I live 30 minutes from this hospital and still drove here because of all the good things I've heard about MSH. The ER was not busy at all, the triage, registration and all other staff that we interacted with during our visit were very polite and helpful. We arrived at around 4:30 pm and left at around 6 pm. I had a very nice experience here today.

Absolutely horrible experience with Emerg today, Oct 31/20. My family and I have dealt with MSH Outpatient Mental Health for 10+ years and not once has Markham Stouffville let us down. Today however, they did. I understand due to covid you want to make sure people coming in have a real emergency and aren't just wasting doctor and nurses time when they can just go to a walk in clinic. However, when I asked to see a psychiatrist about my medication, I was told it was not urgent and to try a walk in. I explained to the person at the door that a walk in doctor refuses to handle my diagnosis and prescribe my medication and refers me back to the hospital. I have no family doctor. I'm not in crisis today, but I certainly will be if I can't get the medication I've been on for over 13 years in the next few days. The people at the front door need to listen better and if they're not sure, clarify before turning someone away that is requesting to see the on call psychiatrist. I may look fine to you, but mental illness is not visible. You think it's not an emergency. But the next time I come in may be an emergency and you could have prevented it. You're not the triage nurse, or the emergency doctor who makes the call. You're just some person at the door handling crowd control. You have no idea what is truly going on and for all you know you could have just rejected someone that may have been in crisis and was just too afraid to say it. It takes a lot of courage to seek help, and if that is how Emerg is handling patients asking for a psychiatrist, "Yeah, uh, sorry, this isn't an emergency, go somewhere else", I unfortunately have to suggest anyone else to go to a different Hospital. I am really disappointed in Markham, I truly am. I will be back in a few days for one last try, please, please let me see a psychiatrist so we can avoid the whole psychosis mania thing that will happen if I don't get my medication in time. It's just that simple.

I was a cancer patient from 2016-present, I've been treated VERY well every time I've been here. I suffer from anxiety and they were great at handling me and my worries. They also have had much better wait times here than other hospitals I went to. Each different doctor I've seen here has been very good to me.

Heather Yates

I had an ankle ligament reconstruction done yesterday with Dr. Xing. I had a wonderful experience at this hospital. I was treated with dignity and respect by every member of staff at this hospital. The staff were all so friendly and nice. This was a wonderful hospital to have a day surgery.

Mumtaz Jeewa

My experience was nothing to talk about, Nurses are great, so was the Doctor. very confusing lay out of the Hospital. parking was a major down fall, paid extra, whole day pass was not working at the end of the day, had to pay again!

Wish I could give them NO STARS! Please don't have your BABY at this hospital!!!! AWFUL service. Nurses are rude they don't smile and can barely answer your questions Hardly ever check on you or the baby They run out of bassinets They don't provide anything for the baby (papers etc -- you get 'baby packages' from other hospitals) They don't provide IV during delivery They don't teach you how to clean/ care for yourself after giving birth

Jessica Stevenson

My mother-in-law was in the emergency department here recently. The doctors and nurses were amazing and even called us on the phone to provide information on my mother-in-law care and her status. It's really appreciated.

Mary Falconi

Went for an Mri this week. Extremely impressed with their caring compassionate efficient medical staff. My results were in patient portal in nine hours which reduced my anxiety level rather than having to wait around in limbo. Their wait times for receiving an appointment were a relief too in itself compared to other hospitals. Thank you MSH!

amy Zindros

*updated* recently brought daughter in for severe leg pain for no reason, has to have ultrasound, however they can't perform ultrasounds after hours in emergency, which worries me. That ultrasound could ultimaley be life saving! I still stand by my original post, but will give credit to the service we received this visit. Very sorry to say since the expansion, I find the staff undertrained, no bedside manner, wait times unacceptable. I find it a pity for the nurses and even doctors to have such condecending attitudes. I've had both very good experiences here and extremely poor. However as if the last few years it's been very poor. I sincerely HOPE that the board members read and understand the Importnace of these reviews.

Worst hospital. The first time I came was with my sister when she was pregnant and they were mad we didn’t go to Ajax hospital where she was registered (Ajax hospital had a blackout and told my sister to not come and to go to Markham… yea crazy- they are both owned by the same company so no surprise). They sent her home and told her that she was not contracting. My sister gave birth hours later after being RUSHED to Ajax hospital. We drove 30min each way just so we can rush her to Ajax hospital for her to give birth 2 hours later. Today I’m here with my brother after they CALLED US back to the hospital because they missed a fracture in his X-rays from 2 days ago. We waited 3 hours on Thursday to get that X-ray done so you would think they had the common courtesy of scheduling him into an actual appointment instead of calling him back to wait another 2 hours in the ER with people who are throwing up and kids coughing without their masks. How does this make any sense ? Who runs a hospital like this ? Is it just us with the bad luck at this hospital. Or is this hospital really this horrible ?

Edward Soryal

My wife was suffering from severe headache, fever, fatigue and general body aches. I called the ambulance, they took her to nearby hospital where she stayed for 5 hours. No tests were done at all, only they advice her to take Tylenol and Advil!! I did for her Covid-19 test outside the hospital which came to be negative. After 24 hours her situation came worse. I decided to take her to Markham Stouffville hospital. In fact I can't say anything except all the staff from reception, nurses and doctors are great, giving the utmost help, they did all the investigations from blood work, urine analysis,Covid-19 test and CT scan for the brain and all that within 3 hours. Reached the right diagnosis and gave her the proper treatment. God bless and protect all the staff.

Denise Cross

I had an appointment for a mammogram and they said to arrive 45 minutes before to register which I did. I waited 30 minutes before registration answered the phone. The registration people never told me I need to get in line gor a hospital mask and was chased down by this rude lady who said I need to get in line to get a hospital mask. Then I got to the 2nd floor and I kid you not in a very small room there were 10 women waiting and I had to wait another 40 minutes in this crowded room. In these Covid-19 times if you want to catch Covid-19 go to Markham Stouffville Hospital

Sandy K

Brought my dad in for severe abdominal pain last night to this Markham Stouffville hospital. Was told that it was one of the best hospital. What a crock….I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody who’s in need of urgent care. Aside from the staff that screen you at the entrance, the nurses are rude and don’t really want to help patients. He’s a cancer patient and was told by his oncologist that if he were to go to emergency for any reason that he just have to show his hospital card identifying him as a cancer patient(given by the staff at the oncology ward at the Oshawa LakeridgeHealth) so he doesn’t have to wait in line. Guess what? We were told that he had to wait like everyone else. After waiting for hours, he was given morphine and taken to X-ray and had some blood done too. They put him in a make shift room, with only recliners, no beds. Do you know how uncomfortable it is for a 73 year old man with abdominal pain is? Still waiting results of those tests BTW. They wanted to do a CT scan as well but had to wait until they open…8am since it’s still early morning. It’s now almost 11am & we’re told that he can do the scan now. After we finished, went back to emergency. When asked if he can get more meds, had to ask the nurse twice because she hasn’t given him the first time we asked, I was told by the same nurse that there was only 2 of them working and when she finally got around to give him his meds, she came charging in his room with a slight attitude. Then who the hell is everyone else that’s walking around in scrubs?? As far as I know, Halloween is in October not August! ????

Took my mom here for emergency services and she was starting to lose consciousness. You will die, get reincarnated, then die again, and a doctor still wouldn't be here.

This Review

We had day surgery Oct 15th and every single staff we came in contact with were absolutely AMAZING, even ones we didnt directly deal with. I cant remember anyones names, there were so many. Thank you!!!! We appreciate each one of you!!!

Joe P

Visited their walk in clinic where we were diagnosed and told to come to emergency. We waited 10 hours for them to only confirm what their walk in had found and then gave us options. This is one big ohip money grab. How can you make someone wait, do not give them any updates and then all you do is day " we confirmed what the walk in had found". This hospital should be a pit stop to a better one

Mary V. Quarles

Good experience ... and the nurses were so helpful.

Used to work here. I Was bullied and harrased until i resigned from my role. It left me traumatized and demoralized. I would recommend everyone avoid working here if you are a health care professional.

They say if you don't say "please" for water they won't give it..and believe me they don't care if there is no access to the water (they say they are not servants [nor cashiers we don't say please to]. You can't say "can I have some water?" which is asking, not even demanding. Also, one nurse screams if you didn't read the sign and had the phone. Sorry, I believe in justice, and this is absolutely unacceptable. Doctors are a story there too: totally insensitive to patients' feelings, and only feel satisfied if they get the upper hand; mind you, they are very rude. If I work like the people I mentioned here anywhere else in this free country, I'd be terminated..ah well, i guess it is a melancholy there are such exceptions.

毫无同理心 Google map shows no appointments need for covid test. Wait up to 20min outside with a high fever and did not see any sign show appointment needed. Unfortunately they are not let me in due to I don’t have appointment…

Had two surgeries in 3 months. Spending to much time at the hospital. This is the place I would choose to go again if needed. Staff are helpful, very knowledgeable and it was quick in and out both times. Plus pretty organized and clean. Rare for a hospital to check all the boxes. Thank you.

The Plastics Clinic has the most unprofessional and rude frontline staff I've ever experienced (Alex and Wendy). When I spoke to the manager of the clinic (I assume his name was Francis) he sounded like he did not want to hear the incident that took place, and wasn't interested in understanding the concerns. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone, and I hope the hospital takes the necessary steps to deal with the staff at the front desk. The doctor's that work in that clinic are great, but they need better front desk staff.

I took a day off to bring my 9 year old for a Pulmonary function test that was booked over a month and a half ago. We were told to be there by 1 pm. By the time we made it through 1 hour of commute from Vaughan to finding parking and going through a long lineup of patients at the check in because only 3 out of 8 windows were functioning due to rotating lunch breaks. We were told that we missed our 1 hour long appointment for being 10 min late. What?? Yes, the receptionist said, you had to be here at 12:30pm. Then why didn’t anyone say that they want us at the reception window at 12:30 and not at 1? Apparently the next patient was taken in and the staff doing the test had marked us a no show and not willing to accommodate at all. I guess it was Black Friday and she would’ve rather be shopping than working so not in the mood. Shame on the staff for slacking! The next appointment is on December 31st. New Year’s eve! I foresee a repeat performance..

Very noisy emergency dept through the night. Excellent service by many staff. Too much sugar served to a diabetic. Three-centre very quiet, restfull.

I came here because I’ve been vomiting for a week, the doctor asked detailed questions, and the nurses are always having an eye on me to make sure I am totally cured before leaving. They even served some water and food to make sure I am 100% cured before letting me go. All nurses and doctor was friendly and caring. The wait was a bit long though, but else everything is great.

Munaver Khandwalla

I have been in and out of emerg.the internal medicine dr told me to viait the er and that she will call. I did inform them at the emerg of that. There is only one triag amd a line thay goes a mile. I can not stand bend or walk and am waiting in line for the longest time

John Cunningham

Great job! Very efficient service and expertise provided by Dr. Greenwald and the staff at Emerge. I was moved very quiclky and efficiently through the contact with people at each stage of my treatment. As i sat down after one procedure i was almost immediately called for my next stage. ie triage. reception. bloodwork. ultrasound. consultation. Great job!

I was admitted at MSH for an injured knee surgery on June 4 or 5 (around midnight). I must say that I was blessed to have two nurses who made my stay very comfortable. These nurses, Janey and Katie are great at what they do and they seem to do it with a passion. They provided excellent care and I'm sure they bring smiles to patients' faces under their care. I hold nothing but a whole lot of respect for such nurses. Janey, my first night-nurse took care of me after being admitted about midnight from about 5:30 p.m. on Jun 4th. My day nurse, Katie was absolutely awesome and seems to enjoy what she does, and it shows what it is to her to be a nurse. She was on top of things and seems to multi-task well. It would be nice for those two nurses to know that they are two of the best in the field. Kudos to them for being so caring and compassionate!

Natasha Lycenko

Attitude of some doctors and other medical professionals from ER towards patients often is like-"I am here to save lives and not to treat your runny nose". It's humiliating. I think there is a time for everything-sometimes save lives, and other times to treat your runny nose. It is not fun to wait in waiting room for more than three hours, and then receive an attitude -"Why are you here?". ER doctors, nurses and other medical staff are very busy. Very tired. And patients know this. That why they are waiting patiently for hours to be attended, even parents with little babies. Everyone appreciates work of personal in ER. But when finally you as a patient is in the room to be seen-there are doctors, who enter that room and already know what's going on-nothing. Not listening to patient, with already ready diagnose- Nothing. Besides with some remarks - suspicions that patient is inventing symptoms and not telling the truth. There is always a cure for everything-Tylenol!

Left Speechless.... I had to visit the ER last week, my visit from start to finish was exceptional. I have had many visits to MSH in the past, for family, friends, myself as well, but this experience just left me totally convinced that MSH is going in the right direction with respect to its care and respect towards its patients. From the triage nurse to the ER Doctor (Dr. Ryan Aalders), the care, respect, wait timing, the solutions provided were tremendous. Especially Dr. Aalders genuine care, knowledge, professionalism, quick action, and thorough assessment was truly appreciated. Despite the extreme pain I was in, his support and quick and complete resolution was truly unforgettable. I have never seen a Doctor give such service at MSH as Dr. Aalders did. Truly amazed. What was more amazing, he called back a few days later to check up on me and make sure everything was okay. Was left speechless. I hope and pray that all of MSH's staff can continue this great service, I do appreciate the great work our front line staff is doing and its challenges. But a smile, a bit of extra care, a bit of encouragement goes a very long way.... The follow up call was like the cherry on the cake, I know we can't ask everyone to do that, but that's when as a Patient and potential donor, gets convinced that MSH needs financial support to continue providing excellent services to its patient. Count me in for this. My sincere appreciation to Dr. Aalders and his Team. Thank you. A very happy and pain free patient. Vazir Khan.

I just wanted to talk about my experience on covid-19 testing; so frustrated and dont know what to do. I did my test on sep 29 at Markham Stouffville hospital and I am still waiting for my test result!! (Today is Oct 05th). I am in isolation for 7 days so far. Can not go to work or even socialize with my family. Intersting enough, now public health internet site for getting covid-19 test result is down. you can not connect to any one, just answering machine or on hold for hours! This is not my first time doing the test at this hospital and I noticed that it is getting worse. Seems they punishing you for going there to repeat the test!! I don know! They may say it is not their problem. They did the test, this is laboratory problem! My question is what should I do? Just saty in quarantine for 14 days? My doctor doesn't have clue! Anyone!! With regards, M.R

Rylee W

Had to use emergency for my friend. Entry nurse was very nice and pleasant. Wait time wasn't too long but doctors was rude and brash, maybe she was having a bad day? Other than that it was a good experience

TINA DOAN

I booked a covid test here twice and I can't believe how efficient they are. I arrived for my appointments on time and there was literally no wait - it was in and out! I've heard of others booking their covid tests at other locations and they've always waited a really long time but I was literally in and out within 10 minutes!

Englika Wadera

I went for my Mammogram for 11.15 AM . I was told to come 45 mins and come to the parking lot and call from my car . After 5 mins I was asked questions and registered. I walked inside where , I was designated to the area for my test . I could not believe, I was out by 11.00 AM . So impressed by all the protocols for COVID and by the staff of the Hospital.

Ibrahim Oner

My wife had a surgical operation performed by Dr. Alan F. M. ING and his support group lately. We had never seen such a professional and caring Health Care people at every level, before. We're grateful to everyone at Markham Stouffville Hospital. Thank you all.

Lori Cartmell

Came for a COVID test today and found MSH staff to be super fast and very pleasant. They are to be commended for their professionalism, energy and friendliness, and for making the testing process as efficient as possible. MSH has a thing or two to teach other GTA assessment centres about how to run a COVID testing site. At my last test at a Scarborough hospital assessment centre, I had to wait two hours in line outside, and this was with an "appointment"! At MSH I was in and out in 15 minutes during the lunch hour. Kudos to MSH for setting the bar high for the COVID testing process. I hope other health networks and hospitals do everyone a favour and look into applying MSH's procedures to their own assessment centres. Bravo, Markham Stouffville Hospital!

There is a very rude Asian nurse who worked on Friday night emergency service. She was no nice to my 17 months old baby at all. When he sat on the weight chair, she just grab his arm and yell "you got fallen" which really scared my baby. My baby had nightmare at the night time sleep and kept crying for many times. This nurse shouldn't work in the hospital which make the image of hospital very bad. She didn't smile at all and not greeting us at the beginning just asking question like we are criminal.

Dr Christina Popa in Emergency is one of the best Doctors I have dealt with, She took the time to determine what my issue is and actually cares about her patience's , its not just a job to her. It is unfortunate she does not have her only family practice , we do need more Doctors like her.

Linda Standford

I recently visited the ER and had surgery at the hospital. i should say that it was a very impressive stay and I would like to send a big thank you to all the nurses/doctors/assistants who made my stay stress free. I took off a star because of the nurse who scratched the inside of my mouth while using the suction after my surgery. The next morning when i was finally able to eat after 2 days on IV and i was starving by then, the scratch was so hurting that I had tears in my eyes and I was not able to finish my breakfast.

Sal Staucher

My dad warned me about this place a long time ago, had no idea how bad until today... after 18 hours I discovered my dad had been transferred from MS to St Mike's via a missing person report I had filed with the police who had tracked him there..I was told by MS that he had been discharged, wouldn't tell me where to or when, frantically spent the day wondering where he was or what happened to him. This place is run by incompetent staff who refuse to answer calls or show compassion, stay away from this place if you're looking for serious care from professionals NOTE: A lesson in basic language skills should be mandatory when dealing with the public on health care issues, a discharge is NOT the same thing as a transfer

Jan Sanderse

My wife had hip surgery performed this week by Dr. Watts he did an amazing job, I have to mention the caring staff they were also amazing they were very professional and super nice. I would give it more than 5 stars, thank you very much. Jan & Jackie Sanderse

If you want to wait for 12 hours at the Emergency or die sooner, go for it. The hospital staff don’t really care how the patients feel.

Leslie Ngo

Came for COVID testing. Not organized, even though google says you don't need an appointment, YOU DO. we didn't know and had to re-line up after already lining up for 45 minutes. Was not informed once while I was lining up .. and waited double the time because of that. Also, you have to pay 17.50 for parking, and it's just sad to know a hospital is capitalizing on a global pandemic. The only reason why I am giving them an extra star is because the lady on the phone who registered up was so sweet and apologized for the misunderstanding. If you need testing, I recommend anywhere else but here. Lived in Markham my whole life and this hospital has always had a bad rep.

Haran Parames

This is one of the worse hospital you can go into whether its emergency or not they just dont care for the patients health. In order for the patients to seek their attention you would have to be on the floor dying as per one of the nurse. Will never recommend this hospital to anyone and no wonder they got sued. I guess they still dont learn their lesson.

house hold

Used MSH's ER service and follow-up appointments several times way before COVID - nothing to complain about. #1) Why is everyone complaining about the $17.50 - seriously, it's a hospital parking (out of how many people who complained about the $17.50 is in desperate need of the $17.50). #2) The waiting time @ MSH is way shorter than what I've seen on the news; compared to 5 or 6 hours of way - would you want to wait longer or just pay the $17.50.

Alicia McDougall

I'm a community healthcare practitioner and was recently working on a very complicated discharge for a client who was at the Markham Stouffville Hospital. I would like to commend the staff at Markham Stouffville (particularly the Nurses in the ICU and the Social Workers on the crisis team) for their level of care, professionalism, advocacy and collaborative, interprofessional approach. This team based approach provides our clients with substantially better care outcomes. I commend Markham Stouffville Hospital for having such a great, communicative team.

Coral Iz

One of my best hospital experiences!! Got treated immediately and had multiple nurses calm me down and take care of me. They never let me out of their sight. The staff is beyond sweet, very funny, helpful and beyond intelligent.

Masood Khan

The ER here is amazingly quick. They had my daughter admitted and the pediatric ward is wonderful. They even have a family room for my other kid. This is as good an experience one can get when visiting a hospital.

Vince Lai

Well where do I start, this is my local hospital and it’s not a place you want to go, but when you need it, it’s amazing. I’ve been here many times for my kids and my parents and have always had a positive experience. I recognize that the wait times can be long depending on the issue. I’ve waited 5 hours once for an eye issue which no one was experienced with and I think I was better off self diagnosing but I needed the medication and I appreciate how rare this situation was. On the other hand when when my dad had heart issues he was admitted immediately and put at the front of the line. I think the critical cases always get priority and that’s why some of the other reviewers are complaining about wait times. We have free medical care here and overall I have to say it works pretty good. Recently our new born needed NICU care and things were amazing. Like life there will always be some people who work harder than others and some who are just naturally better at their jobs. I must say overall the experience was great and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back here if I ever need any of the services of this hospital again. A special thank you to the staff in the NICU!! I also must add a big bonus is the Ronald McDonald house for the family’s of new born a who need the ICU, this additional peaceful space is really great for stressed and exhausted parents with babies in ICU, the volunteers who work this place should also be appreciated for their dedication!

I hope the staff at Markham Stouffville know how great they are! Nurses and physicians were great and so patient. They really ensured I was well prior to discharge. Furthermore, nurses went above and beyond to ensure myself and my family was comfortable. Amazing emergency department!

There might be some ok Dr.s there but I believe them to be racist, My sister was taken there in an ambulance after falling down the stairs at her house , she was sent home and told to take pills , a week later she went to another hospital and was told she had a broken wrist and two broken ribs. I agree the place should be shut down.

The only quality service is that of the ER doctors (if you get a good one with actual bedside manner. Nurses usually very pleasant in the ER.) Once admitted prepare for hell. No one discusses your treatment plan, no one tells you why you’re receiving the medication you are and if you question it look out. I was very ill but coherent enough to ask questions about my care plan. The Dr. (Yee) took great offense. Had me locked in a unit even though I tested negative for Covid twice. When it was clear no one was going to tell me what the plan was or why the use of certain meds or lack of meds I had to take for other conditions, my husband had to be teleconferenced. Same non helpful attitude by Dr. The Staff are scared of him and he told me to sign out if I didn’t like his care or questioned his authority. Just tragic. Had to remove my own IV and was left to crawl/stagger off the unit due this Dr’s temper tantrum. Am now with a highly respected Dr at Sunnybrook as they left a dying woman to go it alone. Expect a law suit.

My ailment was so painful like nothing I ever experienced but I had an Incredible and Awesome experience from Triage, Registration, Blood work, Doctor analyst, Urine sample, Vitals, IV, CT prep/scan and Final Doctors analysts All completed under 3 1/2 hours. Professional Medical Crew-Thank you!

Worst hospital in the area. If u go to ER, they will ask you to change your mask in public which u can easily get covid. You are also expected to wait 3 -4 hours in the ER registration area. Staffs in the front registration are rude. If they were nice, I think I will give at least 3 or 4 stars.

I was visiting a relative on 2c I believe it was. And I overheard the way the secretary spoke to a patient on the intercom. Absolutely rude and unprofessional. She spoke as if the patient was a bother to her. And when I left I saw her on her phone scrolling down smiling and laughing. Is there no compassion and professionalism anymore? Hard to understand!!

I've been blessed to have the attending ER physician, Dr. Popa, look after us. A more dedicated, compassionate, knowledgeable and professional doctor, I have yet to come across. She has been instrumental in extending much needed care and support that had gone unattended for years by others, not to mention saving our lives. To her and the nurses who worked relentlessly on our behalf, I extend my deepest gratitude! Thank you!

Terrible hospital. Lack of staff, all of which have zero bedside manner. Nurses stand around and chat constantly even when you ring the bed bell a thousand times. When they do eventually come they have a "what do u want?" attitude.

Been to the emergency twice in the last few months. I can say Markham Stouffville handles the process well. I been to many hospitals in the GTA, but this hospital is one of the best. Don't have to wait to long and the process from screening, triage and registration is quick. And the call you after few days to check in on you and provide next steps.

I came here after getting an adverse reaction to the Pfizer vaccine and had my doctor and public health nurse tell me I had to go. There was a long crowded line to wait to get registered. (Took a hour and a half)The triage nurse was incredibly rude and didn't care to listen to why I was there. While nurses gossiped in front of me about patients and how a few covid positive patients just came in. I watched a girl vomiting in the waiting room and despite numerous people yelling her help, none came (and this girl was a nurse who worked here). A security guard was like "I'll see if someone will help" and they handed her a bucket. I had thought this was a good hospital but I was very wrong.

Came here several years ago for physiotherapy. My physiotherapist was amazing. She had a lot of knowledge, was really good at explaining my condition and the recovery process. I love their physiotherapy department and would recommend to anyone.

My dad got sick. We send him this hospital and they put him on sleep and just hoped for him to get better. he died... I'm hearing from other family and friends their oxygen is tempered... Hearing that this hospital isn't a good place to send sick people at all... wish I knew before.. Worst decision of my family life sending him to this hospital.

We had an appointment today at 8:05 am. We arrived on time and Dr. Smith was present in the fracture clinic...however, we did not see the Dr. Smith until 10:05am (how do you become 2 hours late at 8am???!!!). Then my parking fee was $17 because the doctor was late! There has to be a way to improve on this ridiculous wait time...everyone's time is valuable.

I waited for my MRI for so long and didn't try for baby yet because I wanted to have my MRI first. So they booked me in for 3:50pm but then when I arrived they said I should arrive 45mins early so they cancelled my appointment and asked me to rescheduled it. I was never told I had to arrived 45mins earlier at all. And if they want the patient to come in 45mins earlier why bother telling the patient their appointment is at 3:50pm? Just tell them it's at 3:15pm. This hospital need to review their method of patient scheduling. Clearly it's not working and it does not make sense. Now I won't be able to have my MRI until 2 years later because I'm not going to wait for a MRI again and postpone my pregnancy plan. And no, I never received any reminder calls at all.
