4.5 hours wait to get seen by the doctor

Even with a long wait time in emerge the staff was pleasant and helpful. In an environment where patience can run thin they were professional and every staff I met or observed treated people with care and dignity. The nurses and staff that that cared for my family truly showed care rather than just getting the job done. Hats off to a great team.

Probably one of the poorest emergency departments I've ever experienced. I've brought elderly, children and myself to this department only to realize that the facility is extremely poorly run, and lead by staff that seems uncaring. Treatment time is typically hours, even when the lobby is empty; nurses have never gone so far as to offer ice on injuries, and you'll rarely see anyone around. I'm tired of having to drive to Markham-Stouffville to get caring and competent staff that at least meet the job description. If you're really in trouble, head to MSH and get in/out in a hurry. If you have a few hours to kill and feel like seeing how bad the public healthcare system can get - feel free to check in here for the night. My advice, tell your ambulance to route if they ever say they're headed to Port Perry hospital.

Amazing Nurses and Doctors, very friendly and knowledgeable. Knows how to handle situations and are very intelligent. Also the staff do their tasks and a very timely manner. Overall amazing hospital, staff, and cleanliness.

Rob Arksey

Close it, they turn people away left and right, wont help in any timely manner, and run for security anytime someone has a disagreement.

All i can say is I met a lovely nurse named Tina yesterday in day surgery. I was scared and she did everything in her power to make me feel comfortable. I think she deserves to be recognized. I had a very positive experience.

My mom went in this morning with a clearly broken foot. She got xrays done within the first hour and it's now been almost 5hrs since her xrays and nobody has come with results. Nobody has let her elevate her foot or even given her something for the pain. This is not how you treat people!!!

While a strong supporter of our small home town hospital, I found the emergency department process to be somewhat dehumanizing. ???? It took 20 minutes after my arrival before anyone acknowledged my presence followed by a 4 hour wait to be seen by a doctor. During that time no patients were seen & no status updates were provided. Everyone waiting were finally taken into treatment rooms all at the same time to be seen even though their wait times varied from my 4 hours down to a recent arrival who waited about 30 minutes. I can only assume that either there was no doctors available during the 4 hour wait or that the doctor was treating ambulatory emergencies. In either case, we all felt trapped & ignored by the staff who appeared to be unaware of our presence. It was like being put "on hold" on a phone call & then getting no assurances for 4 hours that you're still in the que. Most people would hang up after a few minutes assuming something went wrong but in our case we had no choice but the stick it out in hopes we hadn't been hopelessly lost in the bureaucracy. I would have asked for a status update but there is a sign at the desk saying "don't ask how long it will be." ????

They took great care of my father in his final days. The nurses and doctors were all friendly, understanding and patient.

Absolute joke of an emergency department, people come in and wait for 20 minutes before being triaged by a nurse who generally doesn't seem to care whether you live or die, they can't seem to communicate basic ideas to the patients and if you ask them a question the answer is always "I don't know". Good luck if you ever have to visit this terrible hospital.

I was admitted 315 Sunday of long weekend I had a chainsaw go thru my 2 fingers and lots of pain I couldn’t believe how good the staff was when I got in. Especially to a nurse named Janet who deserves a pat on the back from management she signed me in and then was in room when doc was freezing me and it hurt more than chainsaw she let me squeeze her hand so hard I think I was hurting her and she talked me through whole process she said she had been doin this for years and nice to see someone who still cares that much after doing it that long. She made it kinda less painful lol. Great hospital and thanks to Janet. Mike warnock

I think everyone in this hospital that is employed, lying to the patients should be shot on sight for medical malpractice. -Q

Please be patient and considerate to our Front line workers at Port Perry Hospital. During these trying times I have had to go to the emergency twice and still can't believe how quickly I was taken care of, and how pleasant and professional the staff were. Thanks so much to all of them for being in the trenches for our safety. ????

when to the emergency room for a painful ankle injury. The Nurses and x ray tech where pleasant and nice but the doctor on the floor was terrible...I got there and there wasn’t anyone in the emergency room got a ankle x-ray waited two hours for her to tell me the results and then she sends me back for a x ray on my foot And came back in 1 minute to tell me the results... why was I waiting for so long the first time? Was in a wheel chair she didn’t even offer to push me to the door. Asked for a doctors note and she charges 20 dollars but cash only in 2020 and during a pandemic why is it cash only? Doesn’t make sense I would recommend just going to Oshawa faster and more reliable Not happy with how I was treated

Used to be awesome! Was glad I had to go too Whitby today. Meant I could stop there to get looked at . Now sad to say worse than Lindsey! Arrived pain was a 7, went up to a 9, was moved into exam room ahead of others cause of pain ,left 45 min later. Pain was a 9.5 and never did see the dr. Nurse saw me leaving said nothing hid in a exam room ! Even lindsay's times are better than that !

My wife had a serious gallbladder attack which was very dangerous. From the time I went to emergency to her going on the ward to wait for surgery the doctors and nurses were very compassionate and professional. Our nurses where Diane and Melissa who where outstanding. DR Hyska and Dr Wang were amazing in there explanations and made my wife and I comfortable before a successful surgery. I Own 3 companies and I have never seen people work as hard as the staff on that ward on 12 hr shifts. It is like controlled bedlam. Some day we are going to all end up in a hospital so we should understand what they are up against before we complain . I am going to pay it forward with a donation to try and help these extremely hard working professionals as they keep extending the lives in our community. Thanks again for bringing my wife back to health. Len

I went to the er last night cause I cut my finger. I was in and out with 2 stitches in 2 hrs! If this was oshawa I would still be there!

Boat Ing

Horrible experience at this hospital in 2015!! Aside from one wonderful day nurse the rest were rude, ignorant and heartless. As was the emergency doctor! I would not recommend this hospital to anyone! Oshawa was not any better either. Zero faith in Lakeridge hospitals hence all the law suits against them in the past...

ben Lowder

Everytime I come to this hospital, the emerge is empty and its still a couple hour wait to get in. Either their poorly staffed or managed poorly, regardless be prepared for a lengthy wait time.

J Golding

The doctors and nurses here are all amazing. I had a piece of glass stuck in my foot and although it was unable to come out due to the nature of the injury, I still appreciate their great efforts. Even though there was a lot of waiting, they took excellent care of me and did as much as they could. The wait time is not an issue for me as I know they have many other patients with far worse injuries and conditions than myself.

Shannon Bowers

I have to say I will never be going back to this hospital again. I had to go by ambulance bc I was in so much pain. When I arrived there they told the paramedics that there were no beds and that I would have to go sit out in the waiting room. The paramedics actually argued with the staff there and refused to leave me until there was a bed. Which they did so. Amazing paramedics for sticking up for the patient. Now the doctor that I saw in emerge was horrible. Dr. F. Fazileh was the most un welcoming doctor ever. He made me feel like he didn’t believe there was anything wrong with me when I couldn’t even stand bc I was in so much pain. The worst bedside manners ever. Even my husband couldn’t believe how he was. I don’t understand why you become a doctor if you can’t even make a patient feel at ease and like you care. Absolutely horrible

Sherry Sutcliffe

My father was sent home in a great deal of pain at midnight. With a prescription that can't be filled til morning. When I try to call the hospital to ask the doctor a question at 1: 30 am phone rings of the hook with nobody answering!

Kylie Lott

I took my son to the emergency for some concerns about cold symptoms. I was made to feel as if I was wasting hospital resources for bribing him in. I ended up leaving as we waited over an hour in the waiting room even though it was empty. I took him to another hospital the next day and turns out he has rsv. It’s a shame they make parents feel this way when trying to do what is best for their sick child.

My husband went there today, what kind of ER does not do bloodwork, or ultrasound. Adv no bloodwork until an ultrasound can be done but the tech isn't in..... again this is an EMERGENCY HOSPITAL??????

Due to a complication after a total knee arthroplasty, I was taken to Port Perry Hospital on an emergency basis on May 3, 2019. Within a couple of hours I was admitted, as blood tests showed an electrolyte imbalance. Due to a shortage of beds, I was in emergency for almost 2 days, when I was offered a bed in the maternity unit, which I turned down, offering it to someone who was more needy than I. The next morning, I was offered a bed on the medical/surgical unit. A beautiful private room, where I spent the next 3 days. Dr. Tse was my doctor. He was very professional, patient, understanding & most kind. He also took me on as an outpatient following my discharge, for follow up blood work. All the nurses were very kind, professional, understanding, caring & patient. The meals were so-so, but the food was plentiful. My physiotherapy was previously arranged at the hospital, as I was staying with my daughter in Little Britain during my recovery. I started physio on May 23rd, & completed the course on June 25th. Pat & Amber were the therapists for our class of 5 "new knees." Both therapists were beyond awesome in their wisdom, knowledge, understanding, patience & kindness. Any of the other staff that I had dealings with, in xray & ultrasound were awesome, and all went above & beyond to help & keep me at ease. I am attaching a couple of pictures of our physio class & Amber, & a picture of myself with Pat. Thank you everyone for such a good hospital & physio experience.

I cant believe i am only reviewing this now because it has been so lomg but i gave birth to my son on July 30th 2017. I was transferred to port perry from oshawa hospital. As a first time mother in active labour i was so nervous about being transferred to a different hospital with drs and nurses i didnt know but it must say i had the most wonderfuk experience there. My birthing room which was the room i stayed in the whole time was BEAUTIFUL AND HUGE! my nurse was absolutely amazing (i do not remember her name unfortunately.) She was so great though. She was encouraging and funny. She held my hand and helped me witu absolutely everything i was 100% comfortable with her. The dr who delivered my baby was also a delight weboth kept me laughing and smiling. My SIL informed the nurse I was ready to push and she immediately closed her book with a smile on her face and came right away. They respected all my wishes on my birth plan like delayed clamping and bath. They encouraged and helped me breastfeed and never once gave him a bottle. My next baby ill be going there. Your child's birth is such an important and special day and they really took care of me and made the day that much more special. After we went home they even provided me with their number to call if I had any questions im so grateful for port perry hospital and all their wonderful staff.

Candice Germani

Very friendly staff, got me in and out quickly, thank you!!

I went there with a 11 months old with fever and I had to wait for 4:40 hrs for a doctor to see him and told me to monitor him at home… did not even check him

This hospital might have been alright years ago but it truly is not now. I took my elderly mom in, suffering from congestive heart failure back in Sept. It took me this long to put in this review as I have been so disturbed by this hospital. We waited 8 hours to see a doctor and the first words out of her mouth were, why are you all the way down here you live in Lindsay. When she was finally admitted for some help one of the nurses said to my lovely treasure of a mom, it is not fair that you are here taking up a bed meant for local people. (meaning she was from Lindsay, not Port Perry) When I confronted the nurse, she back pedaled on that remark and said it was because too many people were going there from Oshawa and they should use they're own local hospital. !!!!I write this on Christmas day as I have nothing to celebrate, my mom passed away soon after her visit to Port Perry, she gave up as she was treated so callously by the coven of witches, called nurses who made her feel so useless and depressed she didn't want to try and get well. I can never forgive the medical system in this area, oh by the way we live in Little Britain halfway between Lindsay and Port Perry and mom was at our place when I decided to take her in, big mistake and I now live with this guilt forever. I am so ashamed and miss her greatly.

Paul and Jean Hinderyckx

My mother was admitted for two nights and received excellent care. The nursing staff were attentive and extremely kind and helpful. They were always willing to keep us informed and treated my mother with warmth and compassion.

Craig G

a truly great hospital for inpatients and for appointments - truly great. emergency department is lacking in care. always looks like 4 people are sitting around doing nothing. i know that a lot of the time they are waiting for the requisite doctor to be called in, but they could improve their reputation in the local area by using communication better and engaging with their patients in the emergency room as they do elsewhere in the hospital.

Joanne Hughes

My step mother was treated amazing up to the time she passed, and they made her comfortable to not feel pain.thank you to all of hospital staff.Your hard work is not going un noticed. Trudy Volger family.

Huckle Berry

They treated me very well. Fast. Caring. And very thorough. Dont know why the bosses think otherwise. The manager should read the reviews

Shannon Watson

Great place to be when your unwell. Very efficient and helpful staff. Fast wait times. Great experience with the doctor in emerge. I believe her name is Dr.CASSO she was very compassionate, and knowledgable.

Dana Nelson

We had our baby boy here in June. My two other children where born at another hospital. We were beyond happy about our care here. The doctors Dr Gilmore and Dr Wang and all nurses where amazing. When I had to have my epidural the nurse was so comforting and caring I couldn’t believe how easy it was to relax and have faith in the staff here while having my c-section. When my son was delivered everyone in the room sang happy birthday the second he was born. It was Amazing:) ! The after care was great, my room was spacious and comfortable. I wish I could remember the nurses nurses names but they were all wonderful! The one nurse was so helpful with breastfeeding. Very encouraging and educated! The food wasn’t bad for hospital food. I definitely record having your baby here!

Ashley Jenner

Reception and triage staff friendly and helpful. Wait time was 3 hours before moving into exam room. Waited 3. 5 hours in exam room with no one checking in. Went to lobby and all lights were off and staff were all gone. Ended up leaving after close to 7 hours without being seen.

Ally L

Had my baby girl at the New Life Centre back in December. Had an incredible experience all thanks to an amazing team of nurses and doctors. Special thank yous to Dr. Kazarian (could not have asked for a better OB), Sydney, Sandra, Becky, both Kaylas. Thank you so much for a seamless and comfortable birthing and post delivery experience!
