We've got all the opinions of people like you who purchase the products and services of Lakeridge Health Oshawa (Hospital) in Ontario (Canada).
At the present the firm has a rating of 2.2 over 5 and that score has been calculated on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that its rating is very weak, and it's based on a high number of scores, so we can conclude that the score is quite reliable. If many people have bothered to give their review when they are satisfied with the business, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to set scores when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Hospital corresponds to the category of General hospital.
Was in ER for chest pain/dizziness but as soon as they learned I was taking anti-depressants they figured I was having a crisis and offered me ativan/wait for 6+ more hours for the crisis team, never even reassured me that it was just a side effect of medication or anything, etc. I was not in a mental crisis, I even debated not going because I knew something like this would happen. Do not go here.
My sister is a severe anemic that had a transfusion and bleeding for 3 months straight!! This hospital and the staff thought she wasn't more serious than the drug adddicts and the few with a limp on a non busy night and had her sitting there for over 3 hours to tell me my bleeding out sister was not serious!! I took her to another hospital where we learned her blood levels were low close to needing another transfusion!! To add insult to injury a family of 3 kids came into the ER with what clearly looked like ringeworm and over hearing the triage checkin they felt the same!! They area nor equipment was even disinfected before calling other patients! This highly contagious issue!!!! Worst service ever at Lakeridge. Waste of time in a situation that's between life and death! This is the second time worst service. Find a different hospital with nurses that actually care about people and the job they do. Not just a pay check! Save your loved ones.
Almost perfect. I've been quite a few times. The cancer wing is very good. Short wait times and the doctors seem to all be on the same page for diagnosing and consulting. The staff are all courteous in my experiences in the ER, cancer centre and ultrasound/imaging departments. Sometimes the doctors give conflicting information as to whether or not patients need to be admitted, operated on, and as to how they should be treated. Given that medicine isn't always a precise science, it's understandable that different doctors have different ways of doing things. Otherwise it's a great hospital.
My mother was picked up by EMS and sent to emergency. She had delirium and waa very confused. She didn't even understand why she was in the hospital. The paramedics gave her house key to the attending nurse. That nurse did not put that key in safekeeping and it's now lost. The hospital staff have the nerve to now tell me thst they're are not responsible for lost or stolen items. And this is how they treat an elderly woman on a fixed income. Someone had the nerve to tell me that I can get a locksmith for that dilemma. Like really?
I was forced to come here by police since i was suicidal. Staff were treating me like i was a burden and left me on a bed in the busy hallway where everyone was walking by and being watched by guards, That in itself is quite humiliating and uncomfortable.. I was there for 2 days! and did not have the right to leave until i was seen by a specific doctor. I was being handled as if im a useless slave and the doctors clearly did not care about me whatsoever. This made my emotional state even worse. When i finally met the doctor he also did not care at all and just wanted to get it over with.. He threatened that if i continue to be suicidal he would revoke my ability to drive and from joining the army.Witch would permanently destroy my future. Finally he did not help me in any way.. basically told me to go back home and be more positive. I am so disappointed with this system as they don't care about me or helped me in any way. Its been a year now and the healthcare system has accomplished NOTHING in treating me properly besides casually prescribing a few lousy drugs several months apart. I am still suicidal and will probably follow through since this ridiculous country does not care about me. When someone is suicidal they should be treated with everything possible to the max right away! to make sure the problem is solved. But this country does not care about helping me whatsoever, a totally fake system just to look good politically but in reality they could not care less if someone is suicidal. This hospital is evidence of how dark and careless society is, i cannot wait until i get the confidence to get out of it and kms because this country is a joke
Yesterday was my first time at this hospital since I moved to Oshawa and everyone was very kind. Starting with The triage nurse who was very sweet and the nurse who did my ECG & blood work & x-ray they were super nice and Dr. Blair Bigham is such a kind soul (got his name from referral paper otherwise I'm bad at remembering names????). God bless you all.
Worst Dr. Ever, doesn't listen to your concerns, she is NEVER available to speak to our make appointments. Cancels your long awaited appointment. And the receptionist doesn't return the calls and is very unprofessional. I will be requesting another Dr. Or just deal with not having one.
I took my buddy here who more than likely tore his ACL, he was writhing in pain and couldn't put any weight on his leg. They stuck him in the waiting room for TWO HOURS before leaving to go home. There was barely anyone there. DO NOT GO HERE!! It would be faster to drive up to Peterborough hospital before even being looked at here.
When I had my shoulder injury they got me processed very quickly but the doctors spent almost no time with me. The emergency room doctor literally spent less than 45 seconds with me and didn’t even come within 20 feet of me to see how I was... 20 feet!!! If you have a fracture and get Doctor Ken Fern, just go somewhere else. Don’t waste your time because he doesn’t care about you. After leaving his office the first time I was under the impression I had a dislocated shoulder but in fact I later learned I had a separated shoulder which is actually very different. When I came back for another appointment he just said I had to live with it and maybe they would just cut my collar bone off if I caused any discomfort. Meanwhile there are many many other options that would help me regain movement that he wouldn’t explore. I work with my hands for a living and being able to move is important to me. This guy doesn’t care. I’m not going to waste another moment on him.
Great staff, bed shortage. This hospital doesn’t have enough beds or faculties to serve the huge influx of ppl coming to ER. I waited almost two days in the IV room before getting a bed. HOWEVER, the staff here, is amazing. Despite the bed shortage I was taken care of the best they could under the circumstances and in a kind manner. They were thorough, polite, and patient. It must be a very stressful environment to work in, so I’m truly impressed by their care, and being a polite patient goes a long way.
WORST HOSPITAL EVER. Mother in law at 79 busted her elbow. Put temporary cast on it. Did not have bed to keep her in. Sent her home. Calls her same night to come in for surgery next day. Get there. Admit her. Send her down to O.R. Surgeon comes by who just got off vacation and says just saw Xrays. We may have to put surgery off because we have no elbow parts on hand and of course no pain meds prescribe for her pain. This hospital has no Standards
I'd love to say the negatives aren't true, but unfortunately they are. For whatever the reason, if you go to emergency, chances are you'll leave before they call your name and go somewhere else. The care can be quite good once the waiting is over. A few bad apples can sour your experiences easily. Dealing with staff can be challenging, especially if they understand that the reputation of the hospital is low. Is it staffing issues? Personalities? Management? Good question. There probably isn't a single answer here. Hopefully the CEO'S might make some sense out of it before people just stop showing up. Walk in clinics have better reputations in this area...
Bad service when you go to the emergency section you don't get the help ..you go there and stay waiting for 10 hours then you see the doctors and they do nothing to you.. You got sick more than before you go to this (hospital).
Do not go to this hospital if you care about your physical well-being. My girlfriend was given an urgent doctors note to get an ultrasound for potential acute appendicitis. After waiting 3 hours to see a doctor, she's told all the people who give ultrasounds went home for the night. What kind of hospital doesn't have people capable of doing ultrasounds overnight? So you're telling me if someone requires an ultrasound that could potentially identify life threatening issues they would have to wait until 7 AM before its addressed? Whats next, XRAYs are only operated Mon to Friday 9-5? Are you people crazy? Honestly, I've worked as a porter for 3 different hospitals and I've never heard of this. Like I said, I would advise you to go somewhere else, these people will literally kill you.
Broken equipment resulted in lungs unable to be cleared out due to broken equipment. Blood stains on walls from previous patients and doesnt carry equipment to support patients. Rude nusing staff. No cell phone reception inside the hospital so you cant use your cell phone during a visit to hospital. Faulty equipment prompted for a transfer because of broken medical equipment that wasnt tagged broken. Other staff were nice.
More than 8 hours in the ER! Almost 5 hours to get a CT scan then waited another 3 hours to get the result. I went to the ER nurse many times to ask what is going on. It was past 3:00 in the morning when they finally gave the result. I felt that the Very long wait was unnecessary.
I see lots of bad reviews about the ER at Lakeridge. I could not disagree more. My wife was in a car accident at 4:45 pm on a Sunday and was then transported to the hospital by ambulance. She was (fortunately) released from the ER at 6:05 pm having been admitted, seen by a doctor and then X-rayed. All the staff involved were extremely polite and helpful and, though Emergency is not a place one thinks of visiting frequently, if at all, I would not hesitate to go there. Well done Lakeridge and EMS!
Brought my new born child in with breathing problems and throat infection and got told 5 different things by 5 different doctors. Staff is very disrespectful knowing how long the patients have to wait.. Waited 5 hours just to be told my son " is not priority " because there are older patients...... IM PRETTY SURE CHILDREN COME FIRST!
After I was hit by a car as a pedestrian, l was unfortunately taken to Lakeridge; being the nearest hospital. I lost consciousness during this accident, hit my head and many parts of my body were injured. They did absolutely NO imaging, NO scans, NOTHING. Prescribed me pain killers and sent me home. I was asking them to do imaging and they said it wasn’t necessary. I came to emergency the next day with severe pain, requesting they do some sort of imaging just to make sure I’m ok. NOPE. Emergency doctor said I should just take the pain killer prescribed earlier and go home. I have never been more DISGUSTED by the negligence of treatment in my life.
This hospital has always treated people with mental health issues dispicably. While in the ER today, I woman came in, having overdosed on her medication (she had been here yesterday, apparently, and had been dismissed. She was having a seizure in her wheelchair, the staff just let her, with no help. They called a doctor out of the ER who proceeded to berate her, yelling at this woman who was half unconscious from an overdose, that she was wasting all of their time before wheeling her off, still scolding her for daring to come back to the ER. Despicable behavior.
Top hospital in this area. Very wonderful doctors and great nurses to treat the patients with respect and dignity. Parking is awful at the hospital and very expensive. The treatment of patients superior. I have gone to this hospital for 30 years. The hospital has the most modern equipment. Very well managed and very clean. Too many students take away the peace of this facility when they use the cafeteria. The close by schools on Simcoe St. is causing the problem.
On November 27th 2016 I came into crisis begging for help. The doctor on call was Dr. Racicovschi had spoken with me very minorly about the reasons why I had come into crisis. Right away she made me feel as though I shouldn't have bothered and have should have done self harm rather than annoy her with my issues. After little conversation and repeating the issues that I was having I finally had her understand that I was there begging for Mental Health Help. She insisted I was to go home and " cope with it myself" rather than waste doctors times and take up space. I then had to inform her that if I was sent home that self harm could be a factor, in which case she had admitted me to the psych ward. Upon that conversation she decided that she would take me off of meds that had been perscribed by my normal doctor because what she had in mind would work better. she than had me see a different psychiatrist while admitted into psych ward, who again changed the medications she had just prescribed. ( lack of communication is a major issue) After being discharged I continued to see Dr. Anadebe for routine appointments, who again changed some of the medications to suit my needs rather than just playing the guessing game. On February 10th 2017 after all symptoms had become uncontrollable, I had been brought into the hospital by ambulance due to a seizure. I suffer from cannibinoid hyperemesis syndrome and this is one of the symptoms. The cannabinoid hyperemesis is caused by my smoking marijuana for a long period of time on a daily basis, I do this to cope with my mental health including bipolar, anxiety, depression, ocd and borderline personality. after being medically cleared I had asked to speak with a psychiatrist as I am trying to break the addiction of smoking pot after 10 years of use as a vice and finding medications that will help instead. Also inquiring about Pinewood inpatient as it has been mentioned to me as a possible suitable situation for myself. I spoke with two different counselors on staff in emerg who strongly agreed I should be admitted to have these symptoms under control, as well as my family doctor had written a referral that I be admitted to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible for these issues. Upon Dr. Racicovschi assessing me she wouldn't even allow me to speak before she left out a "sigh" which portrayed a feeling towards me of " oh ,no! not you again" to which I strongly do not understand because I was simply calm and begging for help in a civil manor. She then proceeded to ignore the THREE doctors request that I be admitted for the proper help and instead wrote me a list of the same medications I had been taken off of by my primary physiatrist because of bad reactions physically and mentally and had me discharged. While I was explaining this issue to her she proceeded to cut me off mid sentence to tell me my opinion did not matter and that she was sending me home that it was not my choice, as she had made up her mind before even seeing me. Again I begged for help as I was in a manic episode and needed the necessary help available. To which her response was " deal with it, that's your job", then go to Pinewood because i'm not doing anything for you and maybe youll have better luck there " All of this happened in front of the other patients in G wing overflow whom I had been getting to know during my stay and was very public and HUMILIATING. Please explain to me why my cries for help and real medical needs were not only turned away but completely disregarded by the psychiatrist you employ. As your standars state :"Dignity and Respect. Health care practitioners listen to and honor patient and family perspectives and choices. Patient and family knowledge, values, beliefs and cultural backgrounds are incorporated into the planning and delivery of care." I firmly believe these needs were NOT met. This is a Major issue. I left feeling sucidial and worse then when i came in.
This hospital has been a lifesaver for me. I suffer from horrible migraines since I was a baby. When I get them the pain is so bad I can’t talk I can’t see I’m vomiting everywhere. The nurses are so kind a lot of them understand what and how I’m feeling either because they suffer or they have family who suffer. The doctors want me to get treatment fast. They are wonderful here. Not only for emergencies but I had 2 of my children here and the experience was beautiful the nurses were caring and loving♥️thank you for working through such a horrible pandemic I appreciate all you do for everyone????????
I am impressed with the care we received from the pediatric unit at Lakeridge Health. The surgeon, the anesthesiologist, every nurse we encountered, the admin staff, including additional staff we ran into in the halls- everyone was very friendly and competent! It's never a treat to spend time in a hospital, but the team made us feel as comfortable as possible! We felt well cared for and our son healed beautifully without any issues. Thank you for your excellent level of care.
This is the worst hospital ever!!! 1 would rate it below zero if I could. My kid fell and we waited there for five hours before we were seen. A certain dr quo saw my son and did not even examine him. He said he looks fine to me. Took my kid home and he wasn’t himself still, so I took him to kidscrew downtown. Never go here!!! Horrible and very unprofessional. Parents with sick kids your better off going to North York general or kidscrew.. They are the best...
Wife went in with a variety of symptoms to the ER. 5 hours later, all they could offer was pain pills and Zero explaination as to why she was in the state she was. How is a doctor prescribing non over the counter meds to a patient and have zero idea what is going on, and if the meds would even have any possibility to be effect? Dr. J L**Y, you need to maybe need to think about treating the patient in front of you, instead of trying to hustle to the next patient. Absolutely pathetic.
My poor poor mom had a doctor mess up on her surgery. I understand it wasn't his intentions but he's now mentally destroyed her well being. she's jeopardize d for the rest of her life ! She was finally getting things back on track with her biking, getting a new job and then covid hit , that was okay because everyone was experiencing this. But then the surgery happened and now my poor mom is in alot of mental and physical pain so is our family. Sharing this message with everyone because even tho they are certified doesn't mean they are paying full attention. They calm they've done it so many times so I guess this time he wasn't taking it seriously. So upset.
My first arrival to the hospital was around 7am I went due to the numbness in the lower extremities of my body . I saw the doctor pretty fast he wanted me to get blood work and xrays I was told to follow the line on the floor to both the xray and the blood work. At this point I have very little feeling in my legs, but still able to walk. When I completed the recommended tests I went back to the nurses station and was sent back out into the waiting room. Waited there for a little and was called back in and told they were going to do a MIR 1130am Once this was completed I was told to wait in the waiting room was told that it would take an hour to get the results. I waited two hour and decided to ask what was going the nurse said that I needed to stay that the doctor would be right with me back out to the waiting room when I finally was called I was told to wait in another waiting room for the doctor. I was told that there is no compression of the spin and that I could go but if I go worse to come back. I had no resolve to way my body is shutting down. I was asked if I wanted a pain killer I am numb.. I left at 3pm sunday and have progressivly been getting worse so although I have a doctors appointment on Thursday I am still numb it has move further up on the body and I no longer can urinate or have a bowel movement. Called my doctors office on Tuesday afternoon explained what was happening they told me to go back to the hospital asap. I get to the hospital at 4pm go through the process of being put into their system and I am in the waiting room again. while there I saw 4 0r 5 other patients that came in after me go in see the doctor and come back out to the waiting room. After 2 hours of sitting there I decided i would ask if the nurse knew how long it would be to see the doctor. She said she didn't know I understand that some people my have serious issues but to me my body is shutting down and I am scared. The nurse said to me after I said I have seen a few people that came in after me go in and come back out and she said that is not how it works. I said I have been waiting 2 hours, she said that is not a unreasonable time for a emergency department. It might not have been if I had not already been to this hospital for the same issues and spent 8hrs only to be sent home and told to come back if I get worse. LOST and confused I keep getting directed to emergence by doctors and there doesn't seem to be a resolve. Not sure which hospital to go to but can someone help me find out what is happening to me regarding my body shutting down!!!!!! The only reason that I gave this treatment of me a 1 is because this system will not let you post if you don't.
Can't even give this hospital one star. Staff is rude and heartless. lacking humanity, kindness, and compassion, doctors are even worst. Poor communication between nurses come on shift with limited understanding of the patient condition. My husband went to this hospital with the mental emergency issue and after he was diagnosed with a mental health problem by a very unprofessional doctor and telling us he needs to be admitted to the mental department in the hospital. After 3 days of sleeping in the hallway and waiting for a bed, they released him without informing his family. He walked home by himself. We were lucky that he didn't go somewhere else get himself in trouble. Terrible.........
If I could give zero stars, I would. The fact that your booking system has been inoperable for over 2 weeks during a time when there is a backlog of cancer screening and all other procedures due to the pandemic, truly reflects the tone deaf nature of this organization. Be very alert and careful when being treated here - there are some really great nurses and staff, but when you encounter the other kind, you could lose your life. Wish I was kidding.
It has it’s faults but so do most hospitals. It all depends on which area of the hospital you are in to be honest. The birthing area seems to be pretty great from my point of view. Emergency isn’t very pleasant but I think that is to be expected just from the nature of it’s purpose. Our youngest had decided he was coming a month early and this place handled it so well. For a stressful time, they sure were awesome at helping us through it.
I went to the Oshawa lake ridge hospital today, because I broke my leg, but im also a few months pregnant and the pain in my leg was causing pain in my stomach, I'm guessing it was stressing the baby out, or my body was in shock, but I waited 2 hours in the waiting room before being admitted by treiage, my mom told demanded someone look after me or at least make sure the baby wasn't effected by my fall or my injured leg, and all the nurses kept either walking by completely ignoring her or said they couldn't do anything for me. Eventually a security guard noticed my pained reactions and my mother trying to calm me and took me in to the triage nurse explaining my problem and she very kindly addmited me in, and gave me a wheel chair so I didnt have to strain to walk, being pregnant and having a broken leg while.trying to juggle.cruches is difficult. But then five ambleances came in, with people who had no injury or weren't dying, they were simply "depressed", and one was piss drunk and they brought him in to "dry out" . I waited 5 hours, while all the nurses and doctors attended to these people who didn't need immediate attention, there was an elderly woman bleeding from the head, child red that were vomiting blood and me, pregnant with a broken leg, and no one was tending to us... the people that needed imediat medical attention. About 6 and a half hours in I couldn't take it any more and we tried to leave, planing on coming back when it was less busy, a nurse stopped me and said if I was more "patient " the doctor would"get to me".... I told her that she had no business telling me to be patient when I had been waiting almost 7 hours and other pepole like the older lady bleeding from the head, had been waiting even longer and we're just being ignored. She muttered that I was being difficult and I told her that she was being incompatant, and left. I don't suggest this hospital to anyone in need of actual medical assitence, they seem more willing to help the "depressed" or the "piss drunk" types rather then people who need help. last time I checked it was a hospital not a drunk tank. This hospital doesn't even deserve a one ranking.
Disgusting! In 2007, I went to emerg 4 months post partum because I was severely bleeding for 4 months straight to the point I was paralyzed. Each time I went, they told me I was fine and to go home and take a Tylenol. When I finally got into my doctor a couple days later, he had said that I was going to DIE if I didn't get admitted and into surgery right away AND I had a mini heart attack (at 19 years old!!) Right now, somebody is there having severe stroke symptoms that are progressively getting worse as we speak, and they're telling her she is fine, that it's probably just nerve damage. Shut this hole down before they finally KILL somebody because only severely hurting patients isn't good enough
What and absolute joke! My nurse would over ride every decision my psychiatrist would make! I think my nurses name was Diana she was all around absolutely terrible locked in a room with someone who wanted to kill and a 12 hour wait to get downstairs she wouldn't let me outside. I was simply depressed
With covid-19 making the rounds, it's been hard to get a doctor to see you. I don't like having to go to the emergency room because it's supposed to be for real emergencies, but it needed to be done. The staff were professional and security was very active for potential threats to the patients in the waiting room. The wait was long, but lets be realistic: if you're there and not dying, you're gonna wait. THANK-YOU FRONT LINE WORKERS!
It's a shame the way nurses treat patients here, especially at the the emergency. Please choose a different hospital if you are in need of urgent care. Really poor service.
Went to the fracture clinic as I could not bend my pinky finger due to a cut near the base of my finger. I saw Dr.Golger and he informed me that I needed surgery immediately as I had severed my flexor digitorum profundus tendon. Two days later I had the surgery done and the staff could not have been more friendly/ helpful and the surgery was a success! I am nearly two weeks post-op and have not felt any pain. Thank you to everyone at Lakeridge Health!
Possibly one of the worst hospitals! The ER nurses are incompetent and lack compassion. They neglected my father while he stayed in ER for 3 days, not giving him food for 3 days. They kept transferring him to different ER zones becuase they didnt have a bed for him for 3 days! The nurses thought my father had Alzheimer's disease and neglected him. No, he does not have Alzheimer's disease! Anyone who hasnt eaten or slept for 3 days will get symptoms similar to Alzheimer's disease for Gods sake. You will come out of this hospital feeling worse than you entered. Do not come to this hospital! Go somewhere else. They have caused my family a lot of stress. No one cares about you here. Period.
Switchboard operator was a total b*tch. Unhelpful is an UNDERSTATEMENT.
Honestly we are all human. You may be doctors you may have the education to back it up. Clearly you're not in our bodies. We know what works and what doesn't work I don't bloody care if you don't see anything, since the doctors aren't us. I was denied antibiotics at this hospital after being immortality screwed over at the Glazier clinic. Updated! Sunday November 29 2020. I'm never going to wait 6hrs for a bloody ultrasound. I'm no longer heading here anymore unless I'm vomiting up blood.
I just want to say that Miriam a nurse at the fracture clinic is an absolute dream, she was so kind patient and gentle. I feel blessed that she was taking care of me today.
Tonight my fiance and I overheard a group of nurses at the emerge nursing station make fun of an Asian doctor's name to her face. The poor lady looked so embarrassed. The group was saying things like, "How do you pronounce that? Ching chang chong dong?" And worse. My partner started audio recording the conversation about 30 seconds in. They then started making fun of a little Indian girl's name whose father was struggling with his English; I'm certain he knew what was going on however. Shame on those racist nurses. I am planning to hand a copy of the recording over to local media and to take this up with the hospital's board. Aside from today's incident, this hospital has given me nothing but problems. I think that the staff need to be trained in trauma informed care, particularly given that Oshawa is struggling so bad.
Absolute garbage hospital. They have NO care for mental health issues. Pathetic to see that a person who has an infected cut from shooting up gets in and out before someone with uncontrollable mental health issues. Doctors and nurses just stand around and flirt with each other like they’re on an episode of greys anatomy. You ask the reception nurses when you can see a doctor and they go “I don’t know” and walk away. Have some compassion, maybe check on your patients. Not like people come there to sit for fun. Bunch of snotty women in there. I can’t believe how poorly this hospital is run.
Endless waiting time even at Emergency room. If you need immediate help please don't go there, you'd probably have to die before a doctor comes to see you. One of the worst hospitals i've ever been
I went in for IV antibiotics because the homecare nurse couldn't make it so I was told to go to the Emerg. So I did. I waited 8 hours for a 15 minute IV antibiotics. They need to get that worked out. I was not impressed and went to Bowmanville for the same thing and I was in and out in 2.5 hours.
It was absolute hell. I called an ambulance for myself, as I was having crushing pains in my chest, and my arm was numb. sitting in a wheelchair for quite a while, no one paid acknowledged the pain I was in... left for quite a while, as I was crying in pain.... dumped from place to place, no explanations of where I was going... nothing at all. At the end of it, I stood in the rain, outside waiting for the taxi to take me home.
Maybe if the emergency staff was less concerned about what they're ordering on their pizza and more concerned about the health and well being of their patients, they would have a lot better of a review. My father whose a diabetic with severe gangrene, with an amputated leg noticed wounding on his other foot last night and went into the ER, where he sat for 9 hours waiting for someone to look at it WHILE the entire staff discussed pizza toppings, just to get sent home, and an appointment set up with a specialist for 5 DAYS later. You are health care professionals, not high school girls ordering lunch.
Okay, here's one woman's opinion... This is one of, if not the worst hospital in all of Canada. I have never had a good experience here or received adequate care here. I'm not sure if leaving someone in a wheelchair for 7 hours, bleeding out of their hand and on an IV drip of painkillers, having family members carrying around severed fingers in a puke basin full of water is standard procedure, but due to wasted time by staff, my brother lost two fingers and a thumb. You DO know you only have a certain amount of time to reattach a limb, right? You'd think you would know something like that, to be a licensed Doctor, after all? But, I guess I can't fault them, these are also doctors who told us, and I quote: "We don't want to take a surgery room up JUST to reattach a thumb and the tips of two fingers,". So what exactly are the surgical rooms used for, then, if to not perform a surgery? I will say, however, they have an amazing team in the NICU unit, those men and women go above and beyond in ways to heal our sick babies. Other than that unit itself, if you want to die, or lose part of your body, make sure you go to the emergency room at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, my family and I avoid going here at all costs. If your hospital's security team is asking the questions that your nurses should be but didn't, you're doing something seriously wrong. Thanks to the security officers and the nurses in the NICU unit who go above and beyond for patients and family members in ways they aren't paid to do, and are subsequently forced to pick up the slack for those who ARE paid to do that. If you can afford to make the trip to Ajax, or any hospital West of there, for the love of God, please do it.
I wouldn't even give this hospital one star. Staff is extremely rude and is not dedicated to good client care. I've been to this hospital many times, because it's the only hospital in Oshawa. Long wait times ( I've waited up to 3 hours one time in EMERG). They don't go out of their way to help patients. In a hospital and healthcare setting, I would expect that people who work with and around patients are nice, empathetic and genuinely caring. Don't work in this field if you are not truly dedicated to helping patients.
Absolutely worthless hospital. Never seen a hospital this badly mismanaged. The attendants are rude and the doctors were MIA. We waited for over 4 hours with a crying infant and all they could say was 'Please keep him quiet'. Disgusting. Not sure who would read this but if someone does, my suggestion would be to have the attendants and nurses and doctors be docked their pay. Its just unacceptable how laksadaisacal the doctors attitudes are. Horrible !
I had to bring my mother to Emergency on a referral from a walk-in clinic on the Friday of the Labour Day long week-end. The staff were very professional and efficient. I've only had experience with Emergency Rooms in Toronto and this moved much quicker than I would have anticipated. Very happy with our experience!
staff in the ER was super rude. My mom has a history of Autoimmune disease and she was suffering from Flu which developed into pneumonia. She was made to wait for 14 hours ER before being seen. This was while she was extremely weak and could barely breathe. She was tossed around like a football. YOUR NURSES need to have their heads checked, too full of themselves. Words like mean, rude condescending, habit of talking down, interrupting, ignoring are some of the problems which they exhibited. It's just feels like they are forced to be in the ER. In order to administer IV, my mother was poked 4 times……4 times…….. How can they be so incompetent? They simply lack compassion. Even at the nurse’s station when you have a question or comment, they would ignore you as if you simply don’t exist and continue with their group gossip session. Is this where are tax dollars are going? This is the worst ER I have seen anywhere in the world. I am not totally convinced if they diagnosed my mother properly.
This hospital is disgusting. For the last three days I have been coming here every 8 hours for iv antibiotics. In these times I have witnessed the staff discharge patients and have the next patient follow through with no sanitation efforts. Making the new patient sit in the previous patient sweat and all. They did not clean the chairs in the iv lounge, they did not clean the iv pumps nor the machines to check your stats. I had to clean my own chair for my own medical safety. If you have any medical situations or medical complication such as c.f or any other kind of high medical attention needs or disease that lowers your immune system, DO NOT COME HERE. This is the last place you want to go. I did raise my concerns with the charge nurse on staff and her response was I can not change proticall. With that being said I want to say the some of the nurses here are really amazing. I will be raising my concerns with management and other higher ups. EITHER WAY ST THE END OF THE DAY I WILL NEVER BE BACK HERE AGAIN. I HOPE THIS HOSPITAL GETS SHUT DOWN. AND REDONE FROM THE INSIDE. ALL STAFF
Can zero stars be introduced for this so called hospital, our family took the day off work and the day off important family matters to be present for a video call which was cancelled with 5 minutes notice... Then rescheduled for another 5 days in the future, which will need family members to again take time off work. Biopsy results must be a non urgent practice for this disgrace of a so called hospital. If you have family that are sick or need medical attention you should pick a better option than place.
The critical care staff and the 8th floor G-Wing nurses are amazing. The doctors who were in charge of my care on the other hand... Not good. I have an open wound on my wrist. The doctor decided to close it with steri-strips 4 days after it happened. My other wound was stapled closed. Why not this one? It was also never cleaned. The doctor ordered to just have the dressings changed every 2 days. I saw my family doctor yesterday and she finally took care of it. It's infected of course. There's a lot of patient neglect that occurs here.
Formerly known as OGH this hospital has literally saved my life more than once. August I had to address a health issue and am still amazed at the quality of care by all staff I encountered..????????⚕️???? New thoughts: ????????s are fortunate to have such a great hospital. As Lakeridge Health grows the quality of care also has risen.6 stars if possible
Due to severe chest congestion, breathing issues and tough dry coughing my family admitted me in this hospital. From beginning the paramedic pro behaviour was so rude. I admitted here 6:45 pm. I was waiting 4 hours in emergency sitting area. I go through 7 times very massive breathing issues and 2 times almost falling situation. After 9:30 pm they call in waiting room. But by this time they send me for x-ray. Only 2 people waiting. I am waiting first and they call me after second patient who is playing there. No problem. Now i am waiting for doctor again. Now 11:123pm. I don’t know how long it will go. I will rather die in home but will not call again in emergency.
The worst possible health care. If you want your loved ones to live DO NOT take them to this hospital. Avoid Maureen on Floor 5 in ALC and some of the nurses "in-training" All they care about is their lunch break and checking their phones. There are some wonderful and respectable staff, but unfortunately the bad ones leave a sour taste. I have never seen such negligent professionals in my life.
Almost passed out twice waiting for nurse after they stuck me in a room for 40 mins Took my blood and already cousin to breathe and got light headed - asked for water and that’s took 2 hours . Clicked assistance button - a doctor opened the door said he’s ok and shut the door answering if I wasn’t dying smh for air/water
Nursing staff were instructed to ignore a patient because a nurse thought the patient was just "pretending." That patient died shortly after. Time of death unknown.
Worst experience ever. I get sent to hospital by doctor by ambulance,Who has written out why he is sending me. After a 6-hour wait On a hard chair with no water or coffee and no where to get anything to eat, I have a doctor ask me why I am there. You could not pay me enough to ever set foot in that unorganized place. ONE NURSE RAN THE WHOLE PLACE.. DISGRACEFUL!!
I took my son to the Emergency Department today. I was little leary about going to this hospital after reading countless negative reviews about Emerg but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised about the care my son recieved here. All the staff were incredibly friendly and professional. There was a long wait (4 hours) but they were busy and I kind of expected a bit of a wait. All in all I think the service/care was exceptional.
I have had great experiences in the past but tonight was pathetic so this rating is just based on this evenings experience. The ladies working the door were very polite ans giving patients KN95 masks, the triage nurse was great along with reception. But the female doctor I had was horrendous. Had an abdominal pain that hurts when I breath deeply and move. The hospital did not have very many patients and she literally did nothing other than ask a few questions. She didn't feel my abdomen, listen to my heart, do any tests. Triage told me the meds I'm taking can burn a hole in my stomach. Then told me they're limited on the tests they can run and to speak with my family doctor. She apologized and said I know I'm pretty useless right? And I said yes. She said soery and walked out. A lot of good waiting for my family Dr does me on a Friday night of a long weekend. Next time I'll go to Toronto to a real hospital.
I strongly suspect that anyone who has rated LHO highly probably is a middle class person with no previous experience with the hospital for things like acute pain or mental health issues. If you are from the "wrong" area of Oshawa or look like the stereotypical "Oshawa trash" then your experience is very different. The Emerg nurses have a level of disdain for people they judge to be drug seeking that is both shocking and very upsetting. Too often in the news there are stories of people going missing and sadly its discovered they ended their lives. This is a major contributing factor to this growing problem. People are leaving the emergency room at Lakeridge health Oshawa without receiving care due to the burnt out callous staff and their judgemental attitudes towards those they deem not worth their time. The standard of care is not being met for Oshawa's most vulnerable people due to stigmatization and frankly a lack of basic human empathy. The only reason I didn't rate a one star is because of Julie the new head of patient relations at LHO. She took my formal complaint and I truly felt that she was as shocked as I was although perhaps not surprised. If anyone from LHO is reading this please allow her as much authority to solve this problem as possible. Her professionalism and empathy has the potential to help repair the damaged relationship between the hospital and the community if that is indeed the goal of LHO.
Very very busy hospital. Sister was brought in emerg . Doctors quickly viewed her . They allowed my sister to stay with her . Sister heart seemed ok , they discharged her with follow up with appt with excellent heart doctor . If parking remember to exit the way you drove in . This seems to be opposite of some garages . Or maybe the signage is un clear or maybe I should get better glasses Nice lunch area. Don't be too hard on the nurses and doctors . They are working in a very busy enviroment and have to deal with many sick people. Get it ? dealing with sick people .
My grandfather went to this hospital for discomfort around his heart. 30 years ago he had a quadruple bypass surgery. His was the best clinical surgery of its kind done at the time; doctor's would bring residents around to look at him whenever he went for check ups, to show them how an excellent bypass should be done. He had been given 8 years when he'd first had his surgery, but it lasted for 30, and would have lasted more, if it weren't for Lakeridge Health Oshawa. He was admitted to the hospital, and put in a bed. My mother, grandmother, and myself visited him every day, all day, and never once did we see his doctor. My mother and I had to track him down very early in the morning in order to find him. At this point, my grandfather had been in bed for two days straight. No one had told us he could get out of bed, or that we were supposed to be getting him out of bed, or else we would have as soon as he was admitted. When we finally found the doctor, he told us we should be getting my grandfather up and about, because only when he was baseline (as well as he was when he'd been admitted) would he be discharged. And only then would they be able to focus on his heart. The problem was simple; in heart bypass surgery, the valves wear down over time. The doctor described it as a worn down barn door, where the wood was thinning in the middle. Because of this, blood would backwash over his heart and pool around it, causing him discomfort (like being waterlogged in your heart). The surgery for this is rather simple, the doctor said, consisting of a small incision into which a balloon is inserted, which would then expand to stop the backwashing flow of blood around his heart. But again, he needed to be baseline. So immediately we started getting him up and about, and he was improving. He was walking and getting down the hallways and seemed happy that he had hope to get out. My grandfather, however, also had parkinsons. And because of this, he could not communicate very well with the plethora of nurses who flowed into and out of his ward. There was a different nurse everyday, and none of them seemed to either know the others, or communicate with them. They had been feeding him solid food since the day of his arrival. Really poor, pathetic sandwiches which my grandfather didn't like, but they were his only option, and all they gave us to choose from for him. When he attempted to walk on his own to prove he was baseline, he slipped and fell on his bum. He was fine, not bruised, but the nurses put him back to the beginning of his physio treatment. As he was 86, any amount of time sitting in a bed drastically reduced his already limited mobility (due to his parkinsons). This fall told the nurses that he was not fit to leave the hospital, but the fall would not have happened if we had been alerted from the beginning that he was allowed to get up and out of bed. Perhaps the nurses had told him this, but with his parkinsons, it was hard for him to talk to anybody, and easy for him to forget. The nurses were completely aware of his condition. The nurses were also aware that, with parkinsons, patients ABSOLUTELY CANNOT EAT SOLID FOOD IF BEDRIDDEN. Being in a bed, lying flat, and eating solid food with a disease that affects your muscle leads to a very high risk of aspiration, or choking. And that is exactly what happened. My grandfather aspirated on the food the hospital gave him, the solid food he should never have been eating in the first place but which was his only option. As a result, he had to be taken off the medication that kept his 30 year old heart bypass working. As a result, his heart slowly, painfully gave out. All Lakeridge Health Oshawa did was see an 86 year old man with parkinsons and placed him in palliative care. His grandchildren and sons and daughters rushed over from England in order to say goodbye to a man who died from a complication that had nothing to do with what he came in with. DUE TO NEGLIGENCE AND IRRESPONSIBILITY, MY GRANDFATHER DIED AT LAKERIDGE HEALTH OSHAWA.
Staff is amazing in surgery, Recovery room and my room on 6 floor everyone was excellent. young Mr evan was very helpful to me and to the rest of staff.
Was physically and emotionally abused after being admitted to the hospital because of a mental health crisis. The security were laughing and trying to get a rise out of me when I was locked in a room. They even flipped their name tagged over so I couldn't see their names. The experience has pretty much ruined my life.
Cancer Centre is top notch very very very very very good the staff is amazing, support staff is amazing, volunteers are amazing but this review is about the ER unfortunately. 2013 my father was misdiagnosed 3 times within 3 months in the ER only to be found out at Centennary at an outpatient program that he has a stage 4 Glioblastoma brain tumor. Oshawa General ER kept sending him home stating that it was anxiety over my mother's condition. Also in 2013 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer had the best surgeon but aweful after patient care. The hospital was supposed to set up homecare for nurses to come in and check her surgical area however due to negligence she developed an infection instead....YAY. We went to see the surgeon at his office outside the hospital and his nurse set her up with homecare. However her chemo was delayed over 8 weeks due to postop infection. During this time she was also in the ER twice for bleeding hemorrhoids. One ER DR did a hatchet job on her, stitched her up and sent her home. She developed yet another infection. Back to the ER we go then another ER DR wouldn't even touch her just gave her a script for pain and infection. Before we left I called the surgeons nurse and low and behold he met us in the ER and fixed her up. Last Monday my father was rushed to the ER by ambulance after having a seizure. They didn't do any tests because he had an MRI booked for the next day at Sunnybrooke however they sent him home "hoping" he didn't have a brain bleed. When they discharged him they didn't give him his meds back. When I called to see if someone could bring it to my ailing parents they laughed and said we do not do delivery.
Had an amazing experience delivering my first born, the nurses were excellent especially with the pandemic. Appreciate all the labour and delivery and post partum nurses.
The emergency department is a total waste. So many inefficiencies. Brought my mom in as she's experiencing chest pains and still waiting after 4 hours. They need to do some throughput analysis on this department and eliminate the bottlenecks. I read the study put out a few years ago by the hospital targetting improvements in the emergency area. Well nothing had changed in 2 years.
Where are my taxes going, the emergency service in hospitals is deplorable, nor do I think you wait 14 hours in emergencies and still can't see a doctor !? that's how I am and all the people here is disappointing I’m arrive last night at 9:45pm now it’s 12:05pm right now it’s beyond 15 hours and still waiting to see a doctor with a very strong pain I asked several times for a pain killer and the nurses say they can’t give me anything until the doctor see me when is going to happen? And this how health system in Canadá works. I’m pretty sure PM or his family are not waiting as US. The worst part here there are so many animal clinic but not for us. We need a new system right away
I went in with severe back pain. I could barely walk. I was in tears. After NINE HOURS they tell me to take some tylenol and advil and go home. I told them I was already doing that and they said there was nothing they could do. I'm now sitting here self medicating until I can see a real doctor. I should have went to Bowmanville. The only reason I went to the hospital is because clinics can't write scripts for narcotics. Turns out I could have saved myself hours by just going to the clinic since the hospital doesn't either.
I had a great first experience here. The nurses I got were very kind, friendly and overall professional. The doctor(an older africian American man) was very thorough and professional which I loved. Because he went as far as he did to assist me when I came in about a sudden stomach pain at almost 24 weeks pregnant. His test made my home doctor take a closer look at my ultrasound scans where a missed tumor on my placenta was found in the notes which was the root to all my pain after a routine anaotmy ultrasound. Now I'm on watch around the clock by new more experienced doctors to insure this tumor doesnt pose a danger to baby. I also had an amazing first experience with my 3 year old who was hospitalized here back in the new year. The nursing staff is great and so kind to children. That keep sake box they give them is everything. My doctor loves her Madeline doll. Thanks so much lakeridge.
I will be honest, I have never stepped foot in this hospital as I do not live anywhere close, but after reading about a young boy who I believe was 8 years old, suffering and dying because the staff at this location dismissed what I can only assume were pleas for assistance and to be taken seriously by a mother in utter duress. It's a real shame reading about this type of thing and knowing that every nurse involved had a voice, had an option to potentially save a child's life and help prevent this tragedy from ever happening. I thoroughly hope this woman sues your hospital and takes it to the cleaners. It won't bring her son back but it'll hopefully prevent this unforgivable accident from ever happening again. I hope Tammy whoever you are, you never get a full nights rest again knowing your stupidity, carelessness and utter lack of professionalism has forever devastated and changed one woman's life. R.I.P what I can only imagine was a sweet boy. Tragic, truly. For the record it forced me to give this place at least 1 star but in my opinion, it shouldn't receive any.
Been visiting often during my pregnancy and the doctors and nurses in labour and delivery on the third floor have been amazingly kind and supportive, they answer all of my millions of questions and help me with anything i need. They have been amazing and they all deserve credit for the amazing work they do every day. So thank you all at lakeridge health labour and delivery for everything. You made giving birth an amazing experience.
I don't have the heart to detail all the ways this hospital has let me down. I'm disgusted. The only positive experience I've had at Lakeridge (and I've been a lot to different departments and doctors) was a kind security guard who called a cab for me after she saw me crying, and sat with me until it arrived. I was crying because I'd just been berated by a doctor for "wasting his time." I found out I had a massive tumour and metastatic cancer the following week.
While staying. I had requested a fully clean bathroom atleast 12 times. I felt bad asking the second, third time, for the shower sit to be cleaned and toliet. The cleaner's who assisted with the clean didnt do a full clean at all. Had mentioned the bathroom was already cleaned once, twice. While i expressed concern for my hygiene safety regarding serious uti infection risk. I was shrub off, lied to and ignored with staff defending cleaners stating the bathroom was done by cleaners. when you see a pile of bodily hair all the shower floor, shower sides and the disability seat. And only Some of the floor cleaned. Thats what you would call. Not a full clean. To lakeridge sanitize/cleaning/ staff. Your in a hospital, i needed to sit on a clean seat to shower. A full bathroom clean which is very basic and professional requires removal of toliet paper pieces on floor, bodily hair on walls. Stains on toliet seat from previous patient. Please do the cleaning correctly. Not just half, some or less. "Not unfolding the seat from shower wall when cleaning" absolutely disgusting. My experience has been absolutely negative. I also want to express. Besides the sanitary issue. Some staff are absolutely wonderful. Most staff are being lazy and rush and rude
The service received today Sunday August 22nd 2021 was in my opinion horrendous and Extremely Offensive. A 7:15am appointment and an hour wait to be seen. They poked my elderly mother five times only to say to her "if your skin was lighter we would be able to see your veins better". Now my mother has to come back next week probably to still wait an hour wait time to get the same tests she didn't get done last night because they said it would be too long a time to wait. Which is why they booked her in for this morning only to leave with no results. Highly unprofessional How dare you tell my mother that "IF HER SKIN WAS LIGHTER THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE HER VEINS" Who do you all think you are That to me is Extremely Offensive and Racial
This place is a joke, their doctors are a joke their social workers are a joke; rude, arrogant, heartless and disgusting filth that take the guise of humans. David Icke might just be right about some people being reptilians or aliens lol, because these people are sadistic, animalistic, heartless beings. They discharge the sickest patients when they require care and are not stable. This is the 8th time in 3 1/2 weeks that my mom has constantly been brought back to the emergency unit because of her critically low breathing levels, and she's being sent back to a place where she is not stable, her oxygen level keeps dropping below 75 (96 is normal.) I don't understand why these idiots are running a hospital if they cannot keep patients who are extremely ill who are not stable in their place of residence. UPDATE (December 27, 2014): My mom was sent back in the morning AGAIN and they discharged her the same day. This time the head nurse (forgot her name) was very rude and arrogant in handling and dealing with my mom's issues as well as talking with my dad and I. My mom's back was bleeding from a procedure she had done at the hospital to extract excess fluid from her lung that was causing her lots of problems with her breathing; her bed was stained with blood and her back and sheets were full of blood. I saw all this blood as she was being moved when they were hurriedly moving my mom onto the stretcher to be transported back to her place of residence. I asked to take a picture of my mom's back and this idiot head nurse was telling me I was being difficult as they were jolting to send her away from me because I wanted to archive the image of the work of transporting seriously ill patients done at the hospital. They're just moving her as if she's a rag doll, hurting her feet, hitting her back against the metal railing of the other bed, etc... Nonetheless my mom was screaming in pain yelling "please stop, I am in pain!" "God help me!", and I was standing there in shock not knowing what to do. These animals were forcefully performing another procedure on this woman against her will. A little about my mom: She has no kidneys, she's had 3 triple bypass surgeries, an amputated leg form gangrene, another leg with gangrene starting at the toes, dependant on external oxygen, diabetes, she's deaf, many, many operations, arthritis, and a whole bunch of other problems. Since she's been moved so many times from one bed to another her legs are now chronically in pain and hurting even if you move then very slightly. I have the evidence recorded via my phone of my mom screaming in pain to have them stop moving her and puncturing/torturing her in the other room, and I will use this as evidence if I choose to open a lawsuit of this stupid hospital. When you have too much knowledge of this hospital's lack of proper care and try to ask questions as to the poorness of their care, they send their dogs after you (security.) They've got about 30 guards in the emergency unit and their emergency waiting room is packed to the rim of people waiting to be treated; who are the worthless maggots who are responsible for allocating our tax dollars like this? Then they say we don't have enough beds or doctors to keep people overnight; so it's common sense to spend so much on guards who are not needed, expanding the Oshawa Centre for $240 million, and billions on the pigs.
Been here more times than I can count over the years, rarely had a bad experience. Once, in 2008, was the last time. The people on the 4th floor took amazing care of my mother while she was there. They always treated me with respect (except one nurse but that’s just one there) whenever I visited.
3.5 hours in the waiting and counting..!! Over 100 people waiting to be seen by a doctor that stop taking patients in the ER since 4am, when his shift is scheduled to end at 7am...I have never seen this kind of treatment towards sick people that are begging for help/treatment from a Medical Facility.. What is our health care system really paying for.!??.
I was in Lakeridge Health Oshawa to get a COVID-19 test. I had an excellent experience. I didn't know that i had to make an appointment for myself and my daughter but, they were able to assist me with getting both of them done at the same time.
My Wife is a front line worker. She was sent home from Ontario Shores as she was displaying symptoms. She called the Lakeridge Health number, and they called her back, took the info and said she is a priority. Was told someone would call for her appointment. 24 hours later no call, so she called back and was told a priority fax was sent to Oshawa General yesterday to have her in for testing, but we got no call. Now she is told to go online to apply for testing. What a terrible system.
the nurses, crisis workers etc here are amazing. Petra, she is a nurse, nicest lady i have ever met. i sat in ER for 8 hours after a attempted od, she brought me sandwiches, snacks, she made sure i was okay. she was absolutely amazing. Tom, he was a nurse too i believe, also such a nice guy, he told me i was gonna be okay, and gave me a fist bump, just that gave me more courage to keep pushing through. that hospitals workers truly restored my faith in humanity.
My wife and I had a great experience at this hospital for the birth of our child. The nurses were wonderful, especially Angela who helped my wife and I during labor/delivery. She was wonderful and was very helpful. The nurses at the newborn clinic were also very friendly and helpful.
Funny thing is... The hospital tells you about a nurse that just by chance cought something that could have been devastating to a girl... But they don't tell you about the negligent blunders that the nurses make... For example... On February 1, 2018 at around 11pm, a negligent NICU nurse named Donna Cordova gave the wrong mothers breast milk to the wrong baby and put him at risk of getting various viruses... The mother of the baby was so upset that she lost her ability to provide breast milk (as she has done extremely well and efficiently up to that negligent incident). THIS HAPPENED IN THE NICU OF ALL PLACES... The hospital didn't so much as apologize... Instead they tried to cover up the blunder and sweep it under the carpet... Then to make matters worse... In an effort to divert the attention off if their negligent blunder... They maliciously called CAS (Children's Aid Services) on the parents. In my opinion, this is above all the worst hospital for negligence and laxy daisy behaviour... I would never recommend this hospital to anyone... We we're relucant to go there to have our baby... We heard various horror stories... But we gave them the benefit of the doubt and our baby was put in jeopardy... By the very people that are supposed to be diligent to ensure such things don't happen... To make matters worse... The hospital staff admitted and acknowledged that this wasn't the first time this happened in the NICU... And that it's happened before. Which is very alarming. Obviously there were no preventative measures put in place to ensure that it doesn't happen again Hitler's doctors would have provided better service! This place is an absolute digrace and their so called health care is a joke!
I try to avoid this ER like the plague, but unfortunately, today, July 17/21, I had no choice but to visit d/t pain @ 10/10, since Thursday night. Not all, but a good handful of nurses and doctors at the Oshawa ER are not the most forthcoming, patient, caring, and friendly bunch of frontline health care professionals. I am also a nurse, and I can smell a "bad" nurse a mile away. And this ER stinks, unfortunately.
My father was recovering from his surgery after battling cancer for a year and a half. We expected the nurses to have a little sympathy but instead they were rude, short and rough. One nurse put an ice bag on his forehead which after hours, melted and he was laying in a water-drenched puddle. His pillow had been soaked through and despite buzzing for a nurse, no one came for a long time. This is completely unacceptable. They eventually moved him into another wing of the hospital where he was surrounded by dangerously contagious patients (we had to wear bio garments and masks). Despite our pleas to remove him from this environment given his weakened state, we were ignored. Furthermore, their rehab nurse did not seem to be aware of what procedure he had and was forcing him to do things his body wasn't capable of only days after the invasive surgery in his colon. As guests, we were treated as burdens. On top of this, I recently had surgery to correct a sports related injury. In the recovery room as I laid there blacking out because I couldn't breathe- I was trying to get the attention of two nurses standing only 3 feet away from me but they were distracted because they were talking about their hair braiding techniques. After they noticed, one sauntered over and slapped an oxygen mask on my face rather roughly before returning to her conversation. From now on, I always choose Scarborough Hospital. Even though it is a far drive for me, it is SO worth it. I give two stars because the Cancer wing at the Lakeridge Health Oshawa is exceptional and up to date.
I had an outpatient procedure yesterday and was told I should expect to be there for at least 2-3 hours. My husband was at work and when I got there they took me right away and they had me call my husband so he can pick me up sooner. After the procedure when I woke up my husband texted me he was in a meeting and the nurses were just horrible. They just wanted to rush me out not even caring that hes in a meeting. Additionally I felt totally fine and was even walking to the nurses on my own but they would not let me out of their site. Needless to say they put my husband in a grouchy mood too...absolutely horrible nursing staff.
In general ok but still not a very welcoming experience in the er. My mom was there on April 20, 2021. The nurse taking care of my mom was ok at the beginning, but soon got more and more inpatient and even being mean and rude.
I took place in a program at the hospital, though there were some nice people working in it, an absolutely terrible nurse named Bruce McDonald, this man was hell on earth during my program and i find it inconceivable that this man could hold down a job with his disrespectful nature. He insulted the group several times and repeatedly stated he was only there for the pay check and couldn't care less about the outcome of his patients. His lectures were uninformative and uninteresting, having no positive impact on the program. He speaks down to his patients and is quite rude. When I tried to critique his practice he interupts and spoke over me, uncaring of his impact. He insensitive to his paitents needs and disabilities and finds joy in putting them down. He is close minded and selfish, unwilling to accept critism. Clearly this man is a defect to the system he works in and I feel my experience would vastly be improved if he were not to interact with me.
If you want to live, go elsewhere. My first bad experience was with day surgery, I came in on time except they suddenly wanted me to do an x ray, but then ran out of time and sent me up to day surgery. I came into recovery in severe pain and keep passing out due to low blood pressure yet the day surgery nurse forced me to go home, I had to be sent back via ambulance cause I passed out, later found out I had internal bleeding that was causing blood pooled up in my chest, complained about this matter couple times but never hear back from them. Just today we visited ER because a severe stomach pain , while there the nurses at the front desks were nowhere to be found, and a gentleman brought in by ambulance went into seizure , with eyes rolled back and his wife screaming looking for nurses , then they came out of the break room looking annoyed. The worst part? We were never seen, there was may be 4 people in the general waiting room. What is wrong with this place? There are some good people here but it seems majority just doesn't want to be there working, a cleaning staff was mocking the gentleman who had seizure on code blue when came out cleaning. I hope management see this post and do something about the way this hospital is managed.
Super nice doctors helped put my 10 day old badly dislocated elbow back in place. Performed a number of tests to ensure proper diagnosis. Only complaint is that I was there for around 10-11 hours before my procedure at 12-1 am. Still want to thank all the doctors involved in helping fix my elbow.
From the very first pain and 911 call I've never felt in better hands. After having a mild heart attack with the potential of a major heart attack the staff at the hospital were amazing answering all my questions and showing me the best of care. I honestly felt a bit spoiled here and I hate hospitals. Ive had not so good experiences here but they have really stepped up their game. They genuinely care about the comfort of the patient and went way above and beyond to ease my fears. I didn't catch the nurses name in trauma but Alison in the cardiac unit was awesome. Thank you so much for caring and the job you do everyday. I'm alive and healthy because of you
Went for a Covid-19 test so I can return to work. Great experience! Staff and nurses were fantastic. Was in and out in less than 10 mins. They bring you to a special room and have you pull you mask down to uncover your nose. They put a swab in the nose for 10 seconds and then you're out. Get your results in 1-5 days. Was so quick I didn't have to pay for parking. Completely different side of the building from emerg and maternity.
Waited to see a physician for over 6 hours in their ER dept. My stay lasted a total of 8 for back pain. It appeared they had a rotation of nurses in the different parts of triage.. first one I encountered almost told me to see a walk in clinic by offering me doctors who were accepting new patients in the Durham region. I’m pretty sure due to the lack of severity by her personal opinion more than a professional one, is the reason for my wait time.. thanks eh... I don’t have a family physician in the area and figured with a back issue that brought me to tears, total discomfort, and not being able to work, an X-ray or an ultra sound would’ve been suggested. The tending ER physician did take blood and urine samples and put me on my tippy toes to make sure it wasn’t a spinal issue. When he returned after a 2 hour wait he wrote a script to see a physiotherapist. During the wonderful wait time on their uncomfortable plastic chairs which were littered with used kleenexes, used hospital sheets, a young teenage boy sleeping, water bottles scattered, a young mother screaming at her desperate and sick children, in which she was eventually asked to either quiet down or leave, which I think she left for Sick Kids, and people with masks on, it was a dreadful and tiring experience. I must say, the nurse and physician who did tend to me when I was called in, made good attempts to handle me with care and attentiveness. Also the poor nurse who did handle my care, gave a needle in a woman’s hand, in front of 4 other people at the Nurses station in the 2nd waiting room, ncluding myself.. wiped her hand with sterile and sat both swabs when she was done, on the waiting room chairs next to the patient.... I don’t think that is a wise thing to do? But we are at this particular ER which seems to be deeply underfunded in terms of rooms and staff to care for the sick. When she was done with her care? She dumped all of her needle and swabs, garbage in the same garbage other patients would use in the waiting room. ????????♀️ It’s hard to balance good care, lack of funding and resources when you’re sick. To be fair, I’m almost certain Lakeridge isn’t the only Ontario hospital ER dept that faces these predicaments.
Oshawa hospital rates one of the best in GTA or suburbs. They are friendly, thorough and just beyond. Today's experience is overwhelming, as busy as they are, everyone is so caring and detailed. Grateful for living in this area.
Shoved me into a tiny cramped room with hardly any space to walk after giving birth to my baby despite having issues being mobile (from minor but painful post birth complications). DESPITE there being so many private rooms available. They also kicked my husband out for the first night even though I really needed his support. **Nurses ignored me when I brought up symptoms I was having that turned out to likely be due to severe PITOCIN side effects. Ignored me when I said I felt like I was going to faint and became unsteady while caring for my newborn (of course my husband was now kicked out and couldn't assist).** Even thought I was a terrified new mom, all I wanted to do was get out of that hell hole. It was such an awful start to parenthood! Thankful they delivered my baby and got him healthy but they really don't care about the mom after that point.
My mother went in for a leap procedure and doctor FAILED & cut her in the wrong place and had to go for immediate surgery! She's still recovering and will never be the same after she was in perfect health before this incident !! NOT HAPPY!! If I could rate a zero I would!! Would not recommend getting anything surgical done at this hospital!!!!
On Monday February 1, my wife had a Bilateral Laparoscopic Hysterectomy. My wife said, the doctor, surgical team and all of the nurses, receptionists and others were very kind and patient. She would like to thank each and everyone involved.
Literally probably one of the worst hospitals. Very dirty, rude staff and extremely long long wait times. Sat here for 7 hours to see a dr. Doubled over in pain and throwing up. They didnt call any names for well over 2 hours and it want even busy. They were also letting meth heads and opioid users detox in the waiting rooms ...putting patients at risk.
I visited the ER with my son late in the evening on Friday and we were treated very nicely. The whole process in the ER was quick and the staff (receptionist, trauma nurse, doctors) were incredibly empathetic, kind and professional. …
Went to the ER complaining of frequent (several per day for nearly 2 weeks now) dizzy spells so bad that my vision blacks out. After waiting for 5 hours, the doctor listened to me take two breaths with their stethoscope and then sent me home because my lungs were clear. You may as well just stay home instead of coming to this hospital, they won't treat you anyway.
I will say this is a review of the emerg experience, as I know that departments can be drastically different. I was here beginning of 2020 experiencing a miscarriage. I didn't know what was going on, the pain was intense, and my husband and I were left in the waiting room for about 4 hours while the pain just got worse and worse. It got bad enough that sitting hurt more than standing, my hands were going numb cause I was hyperventilating, and it was so frustrating watching others be brought in before me when they seemed not to be in immediate danger or pain. I understand that if they suspected that it was a miscarriage, then they know they can't do anything to stop it, but I definitely felt very ignored and the whole ordeal was beyond terrifying and stressful. I was basically convinced I was dying (in denial about what may have actually been happening), and when I FINALLY was called out of the waiting room, it was just to get blood work done and then I was told I had to go back to the waiting room again. That's when I felt a gush of water and the bleeding started, my husband hurried to tell someone and we were told that we still just had to go to the waiting room. Nurse gave me pads and underwear and just sent me back, where we waited another 3-4 hours. At one point I bled through two pads, went to ask for more, to which the response was 'oh, you're still bleeding?'..... Ummm... Yes??? It was a nightmare of a night before we finally got an ultrasound to confirm what had happened, and it wasn't made better with the way that the nurses seemed very apathetic and there was nothing done to try and ease pain or discomfort.
Far and away one of the worst hospitals in this area. Sent my mother home while she was still experiencing the issue she arrived for, took hours of waiting to see a doctor and then the doctor disappeared for periods of time so there was zero communication, administered meds without informing what they were for, took one test and passed the buck to a specialist. Absolutely the worst. Would rather drive on to another hospital than deal with them again.
Didn't inform me of my psychiatrist closing his office or even give me a warning so I could get my meds together. Now I have to go through all these hoops just to change my meds.
The worst hospital on planet earth. It is unbelievable to witness the wait times, majority of doctors and nurses just chatting and chilling while pretending they are busy. Absolutely terrible, I just don't know how these hospitals are regulated. Just read some other reviews here too. God bless us all and surely we are doomed with these one for now.
I am currently in the hospital for PID that was never properly treated at another hospital. My wait time wasn’t overly long and they did a bunch of test just to make sure there was no other infection anywhere else. The nurse in emerge in the morning was amazing she was on top of everything even though sometimes it took a little while to get a med or something but she never forgot!! The specialist I seen was also amazing his underfoot was even better she took really good care of me and made sure I was comfortable as possible. Unfortunately the weekends usually have high occupancy rate so I am stuck sleeping in a Geri chair in a IV room at emerg. When the nurses had their shift change it was a completely different atmosphere. my nurse was snappy and yelling at me because I had ask a different nurse previously to ask her for some pain meds and took hook me back to my IV since I got back from the food court. Which that nurse later confirmed she spoke with her and that she said she would be there with me shortly but never came. I waited a few hours and then my mother went to her and said I was waiting so when she came she snapped at me how I never asked her and how dare I expect pain medication which in my situation should be scheduled not prn. She then continued to complain how my IV drip went too fast and that my IV bag should of lasted until the next day. The things was she was doing a gravity IV not a pump so she seemed to have accused me of meddling with my IV system or that someone else did and that it was not her own mistake. Which I know it was dripping really fast because the fluid was cold and was shooting yo my arm making my arm complete cold. It really felt like she was referring that I was manipulating my IV which I wouldn’t do without asking a nurse. Infact I had fell asleep and woke up to an empty bag. She has now or me on the pump to ensure no one “meddles” with the IV again. I’ve also witness a physician try to enforce the administration of narcan on a patient that he suspected was overdosing on opiates when the patient wasn’t and insisted he should and that if he was wrong it wouldn’t matter because it won’t affect him if he wasn’t on any narcotic or illicit drugs. They did findsmall traces in his urine but it was from a poppy seed bagel he had eaten prior which could set off a false positive. This all happen in front of me and other patients and made that patient very embarrassed and undignitified. This hospital seems to lack therapeutic nursing and holistic wellness. Very old school westernized medicine practice, well at least in emerg. I will be here for a couple days and am still waiting for a bed. I understand in circumstances of overcrowding it can be hard to keep confidentiality but arguing with the family in front of 5 other patient in a small little room was not the way to do it.
If I could give a rating of zero I would. I have been going to this hospital for a few years and never have I had a good experience . heres just a few of the worst - after being pushed down the stairs at 8 months pregnant, I spent the night there to make sure my baby was ok . After a concussion and severe anxiety due to the incident they were nothing but rude and entirely blamed me for being PUSHED down the stairs and told me if I lost my baby it was my fault, I should be more careful . A few years later I ended up in there after an infection from an abortion surgery. I was already traumatized about having to get the surgery. They Mis diagnosed me and said there were no problems and just prescribed me morphine pills. A week later i knew there was something not right and I went back pleading for help . They again wasted six hours to tell me nothing was wrong , its all in my head, despite my symptoms of massive bleeding and abdominal pain , and vommitingvommiting . Luckily my OB who delivered my first child was there and saw my name, and agreed to take a look. It took her all of two minutes to determine I had a massive infection, and sent me for immediate surgery . She also explained if I had gone about a week longer I could have gone into cardiac arrest. Lastly, my SO went there for mental health issues. He kept begging for them to do something to help him. Instead they just sat him in a room, told him to be quiet , and hed talk to a doctor the next day. They also promised there would be a guard at the door to help monitor. When i arrived an hour later , there was no guard , and he was left in a room with cords , needles , and a hundred other things he could have used for self harm. I got vocal with the nurses , explaining theres six guards aeound the corner just standing there doing nothing , and these safety hazzards need to be removed immediately. They told me to leave. I told them i will leave as soon as they do there job and show me that he will be safe under their supervision, or they will have to drag me out and i will return with the media. Needless to say it didnt take very long for something to be done. Bottom line , theyre staff is rude, they are unqualified, and by far one of the worst hospitals to rely on health care. You know its bad when even theyre ultrasound tech tells you she wouldnt even send her own husband there unless she wanted him to die. And this was while she was in the middle of my ultrasound, and the hospital. And after all this and millions of other terrible experiences , an 8 year old boy has lost his life because of these unqualified doctors and nurses. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.
Broke my foot had xrays done at walkin clinic and they sent me to fracture clinic at this hospital to sit 6hours nurse comes in with air cast 5mins out the door. Mom had heart attack goes sits 5hrs to see a doctor. My son fell out of a tree back swollen so badly could noy move or feel his feet taken by ambulance there the paramedics said maybe faster if we go in the waiting room instead of in with them and we sit another 7hours!!!! Unless you are dieing in immediate dire destress always min 5-7hr wait!!!! Ridiculous....great healthcare system so what if we have ohip if you die waiting!!!
I gotta say, I just broke my arm and everyone I encountered here was super kind and helpful. I needed surgery to set the bone back in place, and I just gotta shout out to the orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Ryan Wolek. I have minimal pain post-op, which makes me think he did a great job, and he took the time beforehand to educate me about my injury along with the associated risks and things to be aware of. All the nurses and personnel; the anesthesiologist to the guy wheeling me out of the hospital, all super nice. Just really happy about my experience here. Keep up the good work, God bless you people.
Fails to feed patients for a day and then they scream at them for speaking up. This is only one of many bad experiences had at this hospital. This hospital is honestly one of the worst.
My son recieved the best possible care at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. He was triaged, assessed and treated very quickly. Both the administration and nursing staff were exceptional. The doctor was prompt, explained the necessary treatment thoroughly and managed to treat my fearful son and his nearly hysterical mother(me) with ease. I don't want to see the inside of an emergency room anytime soon but I wouldn't hesitate to return to this hospital if the need arises.
Broke my foot, ended up getting no treatment and formed a blood clott in my foot. Had to go to another hospital for them to tell me they should have given blood thinners. Don't go here if you want to live.
Great staff. Emerg can be busy at times especially on weekends. This is a hospital and the symbol on google maps should be for a Hospital. If you happen to park in the $10 flat rate lot you will need cash in the form of coins $1 $2 or credit cards. No debit. In the parking office you can get change or pay with debit regardless of where you ended up parking. In the regular parking garage the first 1/2 hr is free second 1/2 hr is $4.50 and then $4.50 every half hour after that. If you are going to emerg it's best to use the flat rate lot if it isn't full. They also have longer term rates, like weekly, etc. The receipt will allow you to enter and exit as you need. I don't remember the costs of these permits but you will find them posted at the gates and transaction machines. There is a Tim Hortons, Subway & Pizza Pizza in the food court (main floor) and some vending machines also. I have also included a photograph of the floor plan to make things easier upon your arrival. PS..Don't park on the street unless you want a ticket !. Have fun !
The day I brought my 2 year old in because he had his first asthma attack will haunt me forever. The response I received from people who swored to put the sick first is sickening. The tears in my eyes when my 2 year old is asking me "what's happening mommy" and they left us in the waiting area for 2hrs and counting not even a pump given to me. I understand that you look after the sicker patients first BUT what do I tell a 2 year old who can't breathe!!!!!!!? That he is not that sick so he can wait!. I HATE everything that this hospital stands for. I eventually decided to leave at about 3ish because my son fell asleep and his breathing was a little better. When he got up the next day he could hardly breathe again so I return. This time a heaven sent nurse sent us in ASAP and they looked after him within 20 minutes. I sat down and this painful memory came back to me and this happened July 2nd. So many days have passed and I can't forget. I could have lost my baby because of you.
I took my daughter here due to major stomach pain and vomiting. We waited for so long, people came in after us seen and left as my daughter sat an waited. Forget about asking when she will be seen. All I heard was " people are coming in with emergency and the doctors are being pulled away". But a woman and her kid came in 2 hrs after us with a cold and was seen within an hour and left us still waiting.
I've had to spend lots of time at this hospital over the past few years for some pretty serious treatments and surgeries. I have always been treated with kindness, compassion, and professionalism, and my medical care has been spot-on. I am constantly amazed at how they treat some pretty rude people with dignity and respect. Thanks for your great care.
Very good service. All staffs were kind and well respected. My daughter had transferred from Port Perry hospital through EMS to Oshawa hospital. They looked after her well and discharged her after confirming that she had fully recovered from the infections. Thank God, to give us such a kind and nice staffs.
My father came into the ER with severe chest pain and all we ended up doing was waiting 4 hours in the waiting room... the staff made us feel like we were just being a bother to them and there was nothing wrong with my father. All around not a very pleasant experience however I must say the laboratory staff was absolute gold. All of them had such excellent manners, especially a young lad named Brandon. He took care of my dad during the cardiogram and bloodwork and if everyone else had the amazing attitude Brandon had I probably would rate it higher... overall its okay, not great, but not the worst out there.
The wait time in this hospital is very long, many hours will pass before a doctor see you. In this country Canada people are sold lies that we have the best health care system. No we have one of the worst health care systems in the world.
I was a patient at Lakeridge Hospital Oshawa from August 16-19, 2021 when I had surgery performed by Dr. Chin. Overall, my experience with the entire staff throughout the process of preop appointment, surgical admission, actual surgery and recovery from surgery on the 7th floor was extremely positive. I was treated with the utmost in professional care and attention from every staff member who came in contact with me and I am grateful for their compassion and expertise. I really want the community to know about my positive experience as the staff needs to be commended.
if i can give zero stars i would, ..had to go via ambulance and even then sat around for 30 mins before asked any questions, meanwhile im doubling over in pain... another hour before a nurse wants to ask me my name just to leave me for another hour. After freaking out and screaming in pain one nurse finally came to take my info... all this waiting and being ignored for a quick procedure that took less then 2 minutes, as usual as soon as i leave the room, the staff is shoving another person in the room (no cleaning either)
A poor experience with taking someone in for mental health complications. Management is investigating. Hopefully good things come of it.
Overall, the staff are okay. However, wait times are extremely long. The last time I was here, I waited about four hours just to see a doctor for a leg injury. The waiting room experience isn't that great either. You should prepare your ears for the non-stop sounds of children crying.
Dr.trembly was supposed to call for an emergency apt at 1130 because my son has lost 15 pounds and is refusing to eat since she switched his meds. She called at 1141 which i missed the call and called right back 2 minutes later. Just got a call from her secretary asking to rebook because the dr. Is booked up for today... so much for a hour appointment
I went to the hospital with a dislocated shoulder and was waiting in pain for 4 hours. I got an X-Ray and they told informed me that “nothing was wrong with my shoulder” they said “I probably popped it back in”. They then gave me a prescription for Percocet and told me to see a specialist that deals with torn tendons. I insisted that my shoulder was still out of the socket because I know the feeling but they started to get annoyed when I questioned them. The doctor even felt my shoulder placement and said there’s absolutely nothing that could be done. I had to go see a friend who was able to thankfully put my shoulder back in the socket which immediately relieved my pain. My friend who’s an MMA fighter and knew it was out of the socket seconds into helping me and he did not attend medical school. It’s very disturbing that I was there 4+ hours and no one could do what my untrained friend was able to do in minutes. This is an utter waste of resources and their solution was painkillers as opposed to actually putting my shoulder back in and fixing the problem at the route. I’d have to be on Percocet all day every day to bear that pain and that’s what the suggested solution was.
It’s been 4 hrs since we being our 16 month old son to the ER for severe rashes and congestion. We are still waiting for the doctor to see.
Worst hospital. Came in for an emergency and had to wait for 4 hours - left at 3.30 am. Was asked to wait more to get a pain killer tablet. Doc asked for an ultrasound exam in the morning and we are now waiting for hours at the Triage room. Why triage and triaging again for what, when we are here just to collect test report and follow up with doctor to get a complete analysis that was not complete yesterday. If u plan to come here, be prepared to WAIT and have a strong pain bearing strength. Hope u dont have to come here. Nov 18, 2019
Last November I experienced severe pain in my front left side I called 911 and was picked up by Ambulance within a few min I was admitted to Lakeridge right away I was given Toradol for pain which didn't work but then given morphine which it did, I then had a CT scan which revealed a kidney stone, the doctor mentioned it was almost done passing and that it should come out soon which it did, all the doctors nurses and paramedics were awesome and caring.
I can appreciate the look they're going for, a sort of chic methadone clinic look. But if you are taking your 4 month old to the ER you may not appreciate the fasion trend they are trying to set. The wait times are insane ( like every other hospital) but the place is filthy. It honestly seems like the place sees a mop maybe once a week. I know the wait times are out of their control but at least clean the place. Feels like you will come out more sick than when you went in.
I came to this hospital several times as well as people I'm close to. All of us have had bad experiences. This hospital is trash. The service is terrible, they are all incredibly disrespectful and rude. After waiting 4 hours to even get seated into the next section. I waited another hour and a half, was moved into another seating area, awaiting to see the doctor. Waited another half an hour to be seen. The doctor was arrogant and snippy towards me and my mother, and then decided to talk to my boyfriend who was also with me about her life and her problems. I tried to speak up was told to "shhh!" I was coughing up blood to the point of tears and cuts in my mouth/throat, they tell me to go home and rest it off. Not even giving me medication, doing blood work, even a throat swap! He looked into my mouth and said it looks a bit red, but you'll live. Ridiculous. My point being, if you have the time to drive somewhere else, your better off, Don't waste your time going to this hospital.
Avoid this Hospital. Unfortunately I had an emergency situation, I went to the ER twice in 2 weeks... Never Again. I'd rather drive to another hospital or suffer. Its Filthy... The bathrooms are disgustingly dirty and not stocked with hand sanitizer or papertowel. The entire staff was rude... -The screening ladies -The security guard -The triage nurse -Doctor Timothy Lussier was incredibly rude and dismissive. -The receptionist named Morgan was horribly rude over the phone when I called the next day, fortunately I recorded this conversation & will be presenting this conversation to patient services, our local member of parliament and the media. This woman was verbally abusive toward me, I'm dumbfounded... All I can say is wow. I've never encountered such miserable, entitled, unprofessional, rude, judgmental people in my entire life. These people are working in the health care industry with absolutely no empathy, no compassion, no ethics. Shame on you people for not having pride in your career. I will be reporting my experience. Stand up for your rights. We pay for this service, these people work for us, the residents of Oshawa. The Lakeridge employees have no right to treat anyone disrespectful, especially a person distraught enough to enter the emergency department. This situation needs to be investigated. Oshawa is a beautiful city, yet we have this disgraceful hospital employing unethical, rude staff. Something needs to be done about this disgraceful place. I've heard many horrifying stories over the years about this hospital, I've now experienced it first hand. I will stop at nothing to ensure persons seeking emergency health care get treated respectfully. BTW- I have had many wonderful experiences at other hospitals. Centenary Hospital saved my life, Soldier's Memorial Hospital saved my brothers life. Niagara Hospital saved my Father's life. Thank goodness these situations didn't occur here in oshawa, I believe the outcome would have been tragic if we ended up at Lakeridge. The disgrace of this hospital and its staff concerns me greatly. We need a hospital to be proud of, a hospital we feel safe going to. We need to employ caring, proud, empathetic individuals. This hospital needs to be clean. Things need to change. I wont stop informing the public about the atrocious staff at this hospital, I want to insure this dosen't happen to other citizens in duress. Please take care of yourself and your health by staying away from this pathetic excuse for a hospital. If you have been mistreated at this hospital, document your experience. Stand up for your rights. Oshawa hospital needs to be accountable for the behavior of its staff, it needs to be cleaned up literally and figuratively... if you have been abused or mistreated at this hospital please report the abuse. Document your experience. Stand up for yourself, we the people deserve a safe clean hospital with caring compassionate staff. There are two women that work as nurses in the ER at night, they blatantly gossip about patients within ear shot. They psychologically abuse patients. Its terrifying. I am sincerely concerned. I'm not the only person that has been tormented and bullied by these two individuals. They are ruining Lakeridge Hospitals reputation. I don't understand how the other employees partake in this abuse by knowing and not saying a word. You know who I talking about. Speak up ER staff, talk to human resources, anonymously if your fearful about repercussions. These two individuals scare me, they are psychopathic, I have never in my life been a witness to or been treated with such sheer disrespect. Please avoid oshawa emergency. I will be submitting a formal complaint. I want to insure these two women wont hurt other vulnerable human beings. Take care and please go elsewhere until this establishment and its staff become accountable. Dont turn a blind eye, when you see someone behaving unethical speak up. - -
I'm not sure why the ER nurses here act like they didn't CHOOSE their profession. You'd swear you were in a forced labour camp-these people are rude, abrupt, impatient and have exactly zero compassion for patients or family members. Yes, your job is hard. Yes, I'm sure you deal with a variety of people who test the limits of your sanity. Guess what? You chose to be a nurse, welcome to reality. They spend more time talking to eachother and ignoring patients than they do performing their actual work duties. When people are sick, dying, worried, stressed, tired and vulnerable, a little compassion would go a long way. I guess these nurses missed the memo. They insisted my elderly mother could walk herself to the washroom when she asked for help to get there. They left her in a hallway for hours after an X-ray instead of returning her to the IV room. Lakeridge Health ER nurses check all human decency at the door. Quit your job if you're that miserable, do us all the favour.
Idk how this place is rated so poorly .. idk about other wards but the nurses and doctors in the birthing ward were absolutely amazing to not only my girlfriend but myself . Top notch had my son out in 3 mins . They were super sweet kind and courteous. Amazing amazing amazing
My husband and I have been coming here since 2017 for his chemotherapy treatments. The doctors and nurses are pretty good, the volunteers are great as well so nice:) The reason for my review is I feel there needs to be some change. - my husband had chemo today and so I brought in a small sandwich each to eat, I was told by his nurse that I couldn't sit and eat with my husband that I had to leave and eat elsewhere, it was a sandwich not a full out meal I said. I think this is ridiculous that the attending visitor is not able to sit and also enjoy some small snack etc as long as the person cleans up after themself there shouldn't be an issue .....this needs to change! Very annoying and rude - Parking it's always exspensive and an issue for everyone but more so for someone who is having to constantly be at the hospital for life saving procedures and appointments. I feel someone needing this kind of care should have free parking. -The cancer center itself needs soft music, nice painted walls and paintings and possibly some kind of fun entertainment as to not be so depressing. -The scheduling staff need to understand that the first priority is the patient and when someone requests a certain day for treatment there's a reason for that and it's not an unreasonable request. Over all it's a good hospital with but needs some work.
They treated me really good they were niceVery understandingI was very impressed they did a great jojob thankyouand went out of their way for me
The worst staff ever. They took my father health card at 11:30 and no one attended them for next 2 hour. After 2 hour they said you can leave. When my father asked about health card They refused to return and said you didn't give us health card instead they called security. My dad is 83 . I will take this issue to higher authorities night shift Staff is very unprofessional including doctors security and reception lady. . You better investigate on this.
Staff was kind. Came in by ambulance and was then made to wait in the waiting room(which was empty)cause they said they had no beds. When I finally went in there were tons of rooms empty with lights out!!! I heard the staff talk more about them picking their summer vacation then they actually interacted with patients!!! I was sent home in tears in pain with a prescription that I can fill!!!
I had a great experience back in 2014 when I had my daughter (I will give 5 stars for then). The nurses and doctor were very friendly and understanding. However, due to these recent extremely low reviews and the unfortunate experiences that many people have had, I really do not think I will return to this hospital as far as I can help it.
This hospital needs to fire everyone and hire "Real Professionals" I don't know if anyone reading this ever been to Toronto hospitals. They have nice soft chairs, kind triage nurses, all the t.v.s work, you can eat anywhere anytime and you don't have to wait for 4-5 hours. And because of this I'm moving out Oshawa. It has turned into the slums of Brooklyn New York.
On Friday June 17th I (Paul Wignall) had a problem with my heart. From the minute I went into the Courtice Clinic to the time I was released from Lakeridge Health in Oshawa I was overwhelmed with the professionalism and knowledge of the people who took care of me. The doctor (I'm sorry I don't remember her name) in the Courtice Clinic was great as were the paramedics that took me to the hospital. Dr.Cheung in the emergency department was awesome. He had a very calming approach and clearly knew what to do and when to do it. He was in total control and confident in the steps that needed to be taken to correct my situation. The nurses Amy and Peter were 'brilliant' as was the anesthetist (sorry, I forgot her name too...). They all made me feel at ease and helped my family and I through a very scary event. Thank you so much to Lakeridge health and to the professional and friendly staff.
Unless your Death is imminent, avoid This Hospital and drive elsewhere. The Emergency area always has a 5+ Hour wait, sometimes even 10+ hour waits. The Nurses all seem like they are worked to death, with a corresponding miserable demeanor. The hospital staff generally are cranky and uncaring. The facility is untidy and unremarkable.
"Great hospital to go to, if you're looking to quickly die"
Excellent punctuality, service and bed side manner. Pete in the MRI department was a true gentleman. Very pleasant, knowledgable and friendly. I was so pleased with my experience at the Oshawa Hospital that I am taking some time out of my day to write a positive review. Thank you guys!!! Keep up the great work.
My father-in-law, who has advanced diabetes, was in ER very recently with a staph infection on his foot was seen and treated very promptly. A few days later, he received a call from the ER doctor checking to see how he was, and to confirm any other follow-up, including the home care the ER had arranged (which started the next day). Thank you to the very dedicated doctor, and the whole ER team.
Worst hospital emergency dept I have ever been to. Imagine being rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery, then having to wait 8 hours in the waiting room before you get it. I swear there's no triage there, they just call people in the order they arrived. But it's not ALL their fault. Protip: If you're sitting in the emergency dept fiddling with candy crush or whatever on your stupid little phone, then what you have is NOT an emergency. Quit wasting everyone's time!!
This hospital holds a terrible reputation for a reason and it’s absolutely deserved. The doctor I had here was competent and friendly enough, but I mean it when I say this hospital needs to do a full scale investigation of their nurse roster and let go of a good chunk of them. The ER nurses are some of the rudest, uncaring, and harmful professionals I’ve ever come across. They do not deserve to be working there and should not be allowed to care for sick patients. For the sake of you or your loved one’s health both physically and mentally - please go anywhere else.
Absolutely WORST hospital I have ever been to in my entire life!! I brought my uncle into the emergency unit and we couldn’t believe how the nurses treat people who are begging for help. The wait was over 9 hours long! My poor uncle was in agonizing pain the entire time. I couldn’t imagine being in his shoes or any of the other people waiting for so long. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the staff. People are waiting to see a nurse and the nurses are all eating and chattering away or flirting while people who are in pain are waiting and waiting to be seen. How can people who work in the health care field treat people like this? I would rather drive 8 hours to a different hospital then ever go back to that one. Doesn’t even deserve 1 star
My experiences here have not been the best. I find the reception very cold and removed. I have always felt that it’s an inconvenience that I or a loved one have had no other choice but to come there for treatment. I also get the sense that they are Incredibly understaffed and their frustrations spill Over to their patients. The wait times are horrific. Shy of near death expect to wait five six hours. It’s unfortunate. It’s a reality. If you can see your doctor go to them. Otherwise sit and wait in a depressing waiting room and hopfully be taken care of with an ounce of dignity
I never to seem to have a easy or peaceful experience here. Spent almost a day here cause my first time pregnant wife had a scare. We find out after the day that she is ok and still pregnant. Then asked her blood type... was that not figured out the first two times you took blood? So now we are waiting another 3 hours to find out something a simple as blood type? Is that not something you would check on a newly pregnant woman right away?!?! Especially if being negative is potentially fatal for the baby!?!? Just pure incompetence and neglect for patient care. I understand wait times and overload but still just do your job right the first time instead of wasting resources on redoing the same tests. Just put some care into for job or find a new one if it’s to much to handle. Pissed father to be.... HOPEFULLY
I went to emergency twice within a couple of weeks. Neither time did the doctor take the time to try to solve my health issue which turned out to be DKA which is a life threatening condition related to diabetes. Thank goodness my family doctor sent me to Centenary emerg who admitted me for SEVEN days and solved my problem. Lakeridge Oshawa could have KILLED me. If you can go to another hospital...DO NOT GO TO LAKERIDGE OSHAWA. Their patient experience staff who call you are completely useless.
never make the mistake of coming to the Lakeridge Oshawa emergency, I have never felt so helpless and disrespected in my life. I was diagnosed with a concussion after a blow to the head, I was told to come into the emergency ASAP if I had any symptoms consisting of vomiting, blurry vision, loss of consciousness, etc. I had EVERYone of those symptoms and decided to come into the emergency. I had no CT scan or MRI at the time of being diagnosed with the concussion, I was told that would be done if needed if any of the symptoms came up, or the pain got worse, which it did. I advised the nurses after 2+ hours of waiting if I could wait in the triage waiting room, or anywhere the lights were not as bright, as I was having a severe headache and experiencing dizziness due to the lights. I was told to toughen it out, as it does not make my condition any worse, and continue waiting. The nurse went on to say; you were told to stay home for a week and toughen out the pain, not come into the emergency. If I had lost my cool from my anger at that point, I probably would have passed out. I understand the wait, everyone waits their turn, but I will never understand the attitude and disrespect these nurses show. I will NEVER return to this emergency department, and I highly suggest others to make different arrangements, Bowmanville Lakeridge is not a far drive to avoid this disgusting behaviour
Staff seemed rude, especially the nurses. I had dried blood all over my face and I had to get up and wipe it off myself in the bathroom since it was taking way too long for a nurse to even show up. Nurses also had an attitude.
The team that i dealt with at Oshawa hospital was kind and caring. Lisa at the OR desk was super helpful and always answered my questions when i phoned in. I originally spoke with orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Tsuji, and he was absolutely amazing, he was caring and was very gentle when doing the initial look over of my knee, he unfortunately did not do my surgery however it was performed by Surgeon Zochowski, he made me feel extremely comfortable aswell and took it slow when talking to me as he could tell i was nervous, The anaesthesiologist Dr. Spurell was the same aswell he had a nurse distract me as he put the IV in due to me being terrified of needles, and talked to me until i fell asleep. Overall the whole team was kind and compassionate and i really did feel as if i was in good hands.. only reason for 4 stars was they cancelled and rescheduled my surgery 5 times which was a bit of an inconvenience.
Worse hosiptal. Brought brother in twice and i am power of attorney . He is blind on one eye, hard of hearing so hard to understand questions is a diabetic and on dylasis. Face and throat swollen couldn't stay with him but allowed 4 white vistors in with there family members but not me. And nurse rude when I called to check in. Disgusting
My sister has been sitting in the emergency since last Tuesday morning. First she was in the hall for 2.5 days and now in a closet in the emergency. The staff are fantastic. But she cannot get into the cancer clinic and she's in such pain (stage 4) and now they are closing for the long weekend and leaving her in the closet. Shame on them!!!! Go to another hospital. The patients AND staff deserve better
How to stay civil and not be profane? This place is absolutely the epitome of trash. Attitude and don't care about patients who are having heart attacks or anything else. I see babies with the worst flu and fevers being neglected. Stay away. I'll drive the 45 minutes to a better hospital.
As always, a terrible experience at Oshawa Lakeridge. My mother sat with blood down her arms and hands for 6 hours. Not one nurse offered to clean her up, they didn't even look at her. As always, at least 6-8 nurses behind the desk chatting, laughing and constantly on their cell phones. Very unprofessional & scary to be left in their hands. This is one of many bad experiences we have had. The ambulance drivers were great & very professional.
Ignored my symptoms, dismissed my answers, tested systems not relevant to my complaint and things that are impossible for me to have. Went home in worse condition then I arrived. First time since new to area, will be travelling to Toronto for my care from here on out. I am a medical professional and was very disappointed that this is the quality of Durham's health care. To top it off the delivery information in the middle of a small waiting room with zero privacy. Care is not LGBTQA+ affirming, very heteronormative. Did not ask about my medical hx. UPDATE: The test that I had requested that was ignored by the staff at Lakeridge turned out to be the correct diagnostic tool to which I was able to avoid serious cardiac damage when a community NP actually took note of my signs and symptoms while making appropriate inquiries. Unlike Lakeridge, who failed to collect the necessary data, scoffed at me when I tried to explain what was happening, and tested for situations that are impossible for me to have been experiencing. Do. Better.
I went in for day surgery on Wednesday and I found the staff incredible. Every single staff member we dealt with was thoughtful, sweet and kind. The volunteers were amazing. Dr. Athaide took great care of me, so did the nurses who were by his side that day. Surgery was scheduled for 9am but got in at 10am, no big deal. Giving a 4 because I wish they had gone over recovery details and what to expect after the surgery a little more than they had but all in all, feeling great, survived, they took great care of me, what more can I ask for. Hospital was very clean.
By far THE worst hospital experience I've had, since moving to Durham Region. The nurses working in the mental health department were responsible for looking after my son. I assumed no issue would come of it. However I was absolutely apauled, and distgusted to hear the things that my son went through. The nurses, and security guards present on this day... Should be ashamed of themselves as buman beings.
I dont even know why google dont give the option of giving scores in minus. I am being extremely generous with 1 star. Arogant staff, inconsiderate, inhumane! I wasted 5 hours of my life to see a doctor and god knows when I will get in. This is, by far, the worst experience I have ever had in a hospital in my whole life. Next time, I will probably call an ambulance to get in quicker. So, the conclusion is, in at 10:30pm, out at 5:30am. Ridiculous. I feel more comfortable calling nurses receptionists.. they judge on you by how you feel... i had some sort of an allergy, itching so damn much... but maybe I should have danced and jigged to get in faster. So someone who waits for 7 hours in the emergency must have something serious. So the receptionist tells me: we are dealing with more critical cases! 90% of the people waiting... getting in and out... right before my eyes, were not dancing either!!!! They called my name after 3 hours of waiting when I was JUST outside the damn emergency door, to make a phone call to my wife who was stranded in Frankfurt airport with my 2 little daughters due to a cancelled flight... for that... 4 damn more hours I had to wait. I was out for 2 minutes... 2 damn minutes... result is for extra hours. What makes it worse is that the receptionist told me: we called you so many times... for a looooong time! Well, I was there ling enough to figure out that they call names 2 times only in 20 seconds. I am not exaggerating. Bunch of liars who dont care.
The ER is so dirty. The staff is very short and dismissive after having you wait for hours. Beware they also talk about previous patients where current patients can hear which is very unprofessional, not to mention over half of the staff stand around talking while the ER is so "busy". Just a disgusting hospital in every way, go somewhere else if you can. (Pics below are of how the beds were when I came in the ER and ultrasound rooms before even touching them.) Also just a tip for the hospital, if you're not going to clean the bathroom at least put the paper showing that you haven't where patients can't see. I took a picture of the paper Oct. 10.
Lack of communication between doctors, nurses, and paramedics.. most of our questions were answered with a shrug of their shoulders and "i don't know" or "i can't tell you for sure". When we asked the nurses if they sent 'inexperienced paramedics" they just shrugged their shoulders and said "it was possible". Clearly shows their lack of inexperience with showing compassion, lack of intercommunication, and knowledge. Felt like the hospital's desire was to cover up their mistake rather than keep us informed about what's happening. Never again going to this hospital ever again.
Truly an awful experience in every way imaginable, my daughters birth was a nightmare from start to finish. Completely incompetent nurses couldn’t fix a simple computer problem resulting in an alarm absolutely blaring for 30 minutes. DO NOT HAVE A BABY HERE. THEY ARE SO INCOMPETENT ITS LAUGHABLE
I gave been bringing my brother to this hospital for a week now and am amazed at the kindness given to us, along with very professional reception services and care. The parking services for drop off and pick up are well organized. ( 1st half hour free!!...I have not seen this any where else!) Kudos to your staff...genuine care and helpful attitudes!...Thank you!...
Thank you for the incredible care we received last Thursday for my son's broken finger. We walked in at 8:26 AM and left by 9:13 having seen a Dr, Xray and cast put on. Thank you to everyone for being so friendly and caring. Made a nervous momma feel much better knowing my son was in good hands. We've always received the best care here!
If their is any zero button i wud press that. WORST HOSPITAL IN THE WHOLE WORLD. I HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE THEIR WITH THEIR DOCTOR ESP RADIOLOGIST AND NURSES. THEY MISDIAGNOSE MY SON. HATED EVERYONE THEY SHOULD FIRE ALL THE DOCTORS.
During Triage, clerk said to me, a nurse, that because the skin was taken off by the mandolin I was working with, stated, " there only going to bandage it up" 2 hours later walked out with 4 stitches in my hand. Good thing triage is good at her job.????
horrible.went to emergency room for fractured wrist stayed in waiting room for about an hour and a half, got x-rays, waited in another waiting room for about 2 and a half hours they forgot about me. finally they called my name and said it was fractured and then said you’ll have an appointment with the fracture clinic next week. Super rude nurses.
My mom went in for surgery today. When I called in to make sure she was okay the nurses were rude and disrespectful. I understand that they don’t always know what is going on but that doesn’t mean you have to be rude about it. Two kids sitting home worrying if their single mother is okay and yet they have the nerve to be rude on the phone. I can honestly say that I’ve never had a good experience with this hospital. instead of focusing on the work of redesigning the interior of this hospital. They should focus on the staff.
The worest hospital staff and security rude racists wait time forever even when they not busy please someone bring some changes .
My mother passed from cancer. They overdosed her on Morphine. Then she had a stroke. The staff were horrible. I had to argue to get them to change her d..... When we arrived we thought there would be treatment. Mother walked in with us. Lucid and erect. Nervous but positive. We had no idea she was in Stage 4. The doctor was very vague on her condition, since she prescribed the overdose, we did not see her again. I confronted her calmly and that was that. I could go on and on... Don't let distance make you go to the nearest hospital. Read their reviews before you go for friend of family.
Arived at 2am. Waited a couple of hours without seeing a doctor. As far as we could see 1 person went in. More people walked out. A kid throwing up in triage was waiting. Paid $9 for parking. Will suffer through the night at home and go to urgent care tomorrow. More funding is needed.
My wife was brought in for suicide watch and prescription over dose, left in the emergency room for 2 days, hospital wouldn't contact or give us any information then released her before 72 hrs. by escorting her off the property and then calling me to come and get her i found her wandering on simcoe very incoherent and didn't know who i was our family dr told us they were not aware of any mental health issues at the hospital when she brought in for and overdose suicide!!!!!!!!!!!! then told whitby shores she was seen by a psychiatrist when she was not seen by anyone this hospital is completely taking advantage of no family being allowed into the hospital and demanding their loved ones get help and not being able to say anything over the phone i called and made a formal complaint with no return phone call i am completely disgusted with this place
Worst Health care place ever... the receptionist nurses are very rude and impolite. They treat patients like a servant and talk to full attitude. I arrived there with my 7 month baby by 9:30pm and they let me sit there until 3:30am in the waiting room. When I went to window to ask them, they behave like they don't care at all and they had only ONE doctor for more than 50 patients for the night. My baby was in pain and nobody cared she cried and cried finally i had to leave without visiting the Doctor. I request the management of this hospital to have a close look at their staff and procedure.
USE A BUDDY SYSTEM, keep in touch with your loved ones while staying in patient here this hospital is not safe!! I had a horrifying experiences here. Back in September of last year I was admitted to the psychiatric ward at the Oshawa location where things were going okay until one of the nurses (Gina) offered me a medication that I was not prescribed by any medical professional at a relatively high dose letting me know that I was on the medication when asked when I wasn’t. Bottom line she gave me medication that I wasn’t prescribed and then came back to my room like nothing at all happened. I was admitted back again in February and my treatment was even worse. The staff treated me literally like garbage. Giving me disposable trays oppose to plastic trays like everyone else, being sworn at, having medications left in my room multiple times and being put on several different medication without being told or informed by the psychiatrist. I wake up with nightmares about this place, it really has torn my mental health apart.
I was in extreme pain, couldn't walk, couldn't talk. My husband was holding me, nurse told him to go which I understand due to social distancing but I couldn't speak. Then she kept asking me questions, I was shaking and was trying to response to the best of ability I could but nurse was like I can't hear you. I was nauseous and threw up, I was told dont throw up on the floor, I was shaking and couldn't move, not sure what was the expectation there. I waited for 3 hours and doctor told me to get CAT Scan. I was waiting for another 30 minutes, when asked the staff how long before I get the scan done and response was they dont have the timeline. I left!
Please do not go to any Lakeridge Health Emergency unless you are visibly bleeding to death. A week ago I went to Lakeridge Health bowmanville with severe pain in my right side (kidney flank pain) as I have a history with it. Triage took my blood, urine etc had the doctor that was there assess me, had me sit in the waiting room for an hr and have a nurse tell me ill be booked in for an emergency ultrasound at 1130am. My husband drove to Bowmanville and wasnt there for 15 minutes to have the doctor turn around and tell me that she didnt find anything in my blood or urine and didnt feel the “need” to do the ultrasound as im standing there bent over in flank pain. She suggested I could sit there and wait for an ultrasound as there were a few emergencies that came through EMS so id get pushed back. Just from previous experiences I didnt have a good gut feeling and had my husband take me to St.Michaels hospital in Toronto where I was immediately taken in and the staff were amazing, went over and above, hooked me up to an IV, provided me meds and we ended up being there for 8.5 hours when the doctor at St. Mikes found a kidney infection and gave me antibiotics and had me in for an ultrasound the next day. Three days later I was back at St.Mikes emergency and booked in for emergency surgery the Friday and admitted into the hospital until Monday. Do not trust the doctors at Lakeridge Health take the extra time and travel to Toronto to doctors who have proper training and skills to deal with special cases or you and your family members will end up severely sick!
NEVER GO TO EMERGENCY! This is by far the worst hospital. I've gone to emergency for multiple issues with my family. First my daughter broke her finger and they let us sit in the waiting room for 3 hour's due to MISPLACED PAPERWORK. Then my wife slipped a disc and they made her wait 2.5 hours to be seen because the nurse misdiagnosed her and didn't listen. When my daughter was born my wife came back with abdominal pain and they made her wait 9 hours to be told go home? The next day her OB gave her antibiotics for a bad infection! I've never been less than 4 plus hours and this hospital is very much understaffed. If you have any time to get to a hospital go somewhere else.
What's the purpose of a hospital if not to be demeaned and harassed when you go their for treatment? There's an entire Facebook page dedicated to their negligence for a reason.
Just had kidney biopsy in this hospital and was very impress by the wonderful staff from front desk to nurses to doctor. All were very professional and very customer friendly. The moment i walked in i was greeted by a volunteer gentlemen and the lady ( with hijab) who set the positive tone guiding me to the day surgery. And the rest of the staff were extremely polite and customer friendly. They were all super stars. Made my day. This hospital should be a proto type hospital. God bless. Mohammad Arif. Pickering
I cant believe some of these reviews. I had 2 children in that hospital. Yes for my first daughter "they had no room" I was in a open room with ten beds. But they were busy. As soon as a room opened I was in it. The nurses were amazing, one doctor did 'hit a nerve so to speak' But everyone was amazing. Second daughter I was induced, labor came on fast and hard... I was warned I may not have time for pain meds. I was okay with that. They can only do so much. You people need to understand there is one doctor to how many patients.... nurses don't have the ability to do much without doctors okay.. There are so many things to consider here.
I have been here in emergency ward. The staff were very calm and had no sense of urgency on the medical condition I arrived. I requested the nurse to get me a doctor as I had a blood clot and the pain was almost on 9 scale. She kept me waiting for hours and I had to go to Ajax hospital hopeless.
This hospital has the worst service. I live nearby so it is most convenient for me to bring myself or any family members to be seen at this location. The wait times are absolutely insane, every single staff memeber is miserable and god for bid you ask a question or for help you are unconvincing them. The hospital treats you like a number, it is absolute chaos as soon as you walk into the doors of emerg. I was seen two days in a row for chronic abdominal pain WHILE PREGNANT and was told “Tylenol”. I’m disgusted at the lack of help from this hospital. It should be shut down, bigger, more staff, and completely new training programs for these staff members. The look on their faces and the tone in which you’re talked AT makes you seem to believe they’re more miserable and uncomfortable than you. After weeks of no answers and frustration from this hospital I decided to branch out to Peterborough and let me tell you the best decision I’ve made. The hospital is beautiful, clean as can be as every single nurse or doctor is there to HELP YOU. Their compassion and drive for the industry is amazing! I usually don’t write reviews but this one says a lot. I will never go to my local hospital again, sad to say. They need some MAJOR improvements.
Well again rude judgemental staff at Lakeridge Health Hospital. My daughter went for blood work at emerg. She felt uncomfortable and got scared and left. I convinced her to go back 4 hrs later. The two staff at emergency reception said well we closed your file. You’ll have to go thru the whole process again and provide bloodwork again. Why? when the physician called to say we have the bloodwork results. Why do we pay these people???
THE BEST HOSPITAL EVER!...the staff are always so nice there service is just amazing!..this should be a 4 star Hospital everytime I come here I leave feeling great!!! Whatever they do to train there staff keep it up! I hope they keep up this momentum!!! #besthospitalever #teamlakeridge #oshawa #hospital #healthcare
Went there a few nights ago with severe nausea and stomach pain and was sent home half an hour later being told nothings wrong while the ER doctor was praised for clearing the waiting room so quick. Only he clearly wasn’t paying close enough attention since I was throwing up blood the next morning. Went in that morning again because I was throwing up blood and all the ER doctor did was confirm that I did in fact throw up blood then send me home. None of this would have happened had I been allowed to bring someone with me since I have severe anxiety and am not able to stand up for myself. They are taking advantage of the no visitor policy to neglect patients and not do their job properly.
My mom was brought in by ambulance for obvious symptoms of a stroke. She was processed in a decent time, told she would be setup with iv to which the young nurse did after a few painful tries to never actually recieve any fluids or meds. She was sent for a chest xray, then ct scan. The doc returned to tell us very casually that she has lung cancer and it 'most definitely' has metastasized to the brain and is causing her confusion. He referred her to an oncologist and told us to take her home to await a call for more tests the following week. We did as directed feeling shocked and unsure of his diagnosis and lack of treatment. We then brought her to Newmarket emerg after noticing signs of deterioration to find that it was in fact a stroke and she finally recieved proper treatment for it. However, if Oshawa hadn't written her off as being a waste of their time/resources and just gave her a clot buster as a precaution, her mobility wouldn't have been affected as well. I am angry beyond words!
Went into emerg with extreme pain in abdominal area a few years ago. They took some blood and took my temperature. The told me my white blood cell count was elevated and i had a fever of 100F. They sent me home and said to come back if it got worse. After three hours I had to return and insisted they admit me and get some pictures of my abdomen. My colon had ruptured and bile was infecting my other organs! I had peritonitis. I would have died if left untreated. The worst happened the day after I had a colon resection and a nurse came in early in the morning and told me to sit up. I was on morphine was quite groggy but obeyed. I tried to reach for her help but she pulled her hand back at which time there was a violent tearing and extreme pain at the surgery site. My internal stitches tore open and I began to ooze out of my staples. She had no idea what my condition was. This started a 6 month process of having a home care nurse stuff my now open wound and pulling broken knotted stitches out to help it seal. I should have sued and I should have written this a long time ago. Stay away from this hospital for ANY surgery!
I was taken to Lakeridge Health Oshawa hospital for my head inquiry. I was so much in pain. The staffs didn’t offer me a wheelchair from ambulance to waiting area .they made me to walk to the registration and had to wait almost 2 hours in the waiting room . All staff and doctors are unprofessional.they were socialize the whole time. Especially the doctor blair bigham. I am very disappointed that Our taxes money has wasted on these professionals who lack of common senses. Mental Health is also manipulative and deceive system in Canada. It’s just a business. Don’t let the name fool you. Please stay away from this hospital.
Had a stroke in September spend a month there thank you, Lori, julie, danielle, Karen,Petra, steph, tracie,Nadine all the beautiful nurses that took the time to help me and a special thanks to AfAF for getting my breakfast. Thank you! Sexykeren Stroke unit bed 59A ❤❤❤
Myfriend was given blood test results from another patient. For all we know she was discharged based on someone else's results. She is not a 67 yr old woman named Susan Patricia. Her personal information me advilible to us. The amount of negligence that comes from this hospital is unbelievable. Any attempt at bringing knowledge about abuse/negligence feels dismissed and ignored. It's 100%true this hospital has so many issues. My friend has been coming to this hospital for anomalies in her mouth. Over Serveal times since Jan 2020. And each time was either verbal abuse, neglect, and no understanding. Even tried to presents a time-lapse for better understanding. The doctors don't acknowledge, usually say don't see anything.would littery have to be dead to receive simi professional care. Nothing less. There's more than enough evidence my friend has of negligence. And I'm sure the 1 stars below me agree. You're better off going anywhere else.
This hospital treats patients rather poorly. I was hospitalized for 3 days and was rarely checked in on. I asked for water on several occasions and never received it. Their response “we’re really busy”. The physicians are abrupt and condescending. I do not recommend this hospital. Go elsewhere if you can. I was treated as though I was in prison.
The doctors and nurses I met were quite kind although the waiting times for the crisis intervention ward was insane. 6 hours to get a snobby, rude and clearly hates her job psychologist. She made me feel worse then I was when I came in and didn't seem to care about my situation. Don't go there for mental health. I have never seen a more unprofessional psychologist in my life.
Worst hospital I have ever been at, Receptionist at Diagnostic Imaging are the rudest people ever, they are just there to collect a paycheck not to help patience , shame on the Oshawa Hospital to employee people like this, they are the people that represent you . I will not be back there again just like many others , and that is just what they want , less work and patience for these workers for there nice high payed cushy jobs and it shows .
I couldn't agree more with Jessica, I had the pleasure of meeting with Brandon from the lab myself and his overall professionalism and not to mention his expertise at what he does definitely made my visit here quick and painless. Everyone works as a team to ensure you are being taken care of in a timely manner from the nurses to the cleaning staff. Very impressed.
PLEASE READ: My statement can be summed up by saying, if I was hurt and needed help ASAP I would NOT recommend stopping near this hospital. The nurse me and my girlfriend dealt with was not at all qualified for her job in the position she was in. To have a nurse LAUGH at a patient in a mental health crisis and to argue with her parents who were looking for help and care for their daughter...I would walk to Ajax with a broken leg just to stay away from this hospital. Highly do NOT recommend.
in the past I've had bad experiences with the staff mainly in the ER but recently in the covid testing and oral surgery branches the staff couldn't have been nicer. the problem is I've been waiting 10 days for covid results, there's no line i can call to complain and i am almost certain they have lost my results. I've missed over a week of work and i am furious at the handling of my test. it is worth mentioning that i am 19 days asymptomatic since last known exposure so this needs to be resolved because I'm not the only person its happened to and it seems rather common.
The worst hospital I have ever gone to. One nurse specifically has absolutely no compassion with her job. Being in the medical field, I am disappointed with the staff specifically the one I encountered on Saturday night. You would think a nurse who's fully educated would understand when someone is having a panic attack, but NO she decided to make my anxiety worse by arguing with me. If I could I would report her for being unprofessional but my anxiety was off the roof to even get her name. I was with my 2 year old at the time and she didn't even care that she was crying because of the situation. She's Asian with long black hair. She had the odacity to role her eyes when I asked her how she has the nerve to make my anxiety worse after I told her I had one. Thank God her colleague made her leave. Everyone in the waiting room was disturbed with how unprofessional and IMMATURE she was. Once I was called to go see a doctor I encountered her and seeing her with her colleagues she was loud and obnoxious and made me feel so uncomfortable being there. I'm sure she told them the encounter she had with me in the waiting room. I would love to have her name but it's not worth going back to that hospital
One of the worst emergency hospitals in the world. The waiting time is forever. I was waiting 24 hours only for the doctor to tell me that I cannot have the gallbladder removal because I tested positive for Covid. They should be able to let me know that I could not have surgery much earlier, not after 24 hours! Out of 20 nurses, only 2 of them actually worked and cared for the patients. The rest just relaxed and talked about spiderman...Very unprofessional, totally against human survival
I'm not sure how the rest of the hospital is (although the nurses in Emerg weren't exactly pleasant) but the labour and delivery ward was absolutely amazing. Had to deliver my daughter prematurely however, the staff left no stone unturned in ensuring we were taken care of and were comfortable amongst the chaos. Thank you for your selflessness ????
I was brought into the hospital by ambulance twice having a kidney stone attack. Use to be that a nurse would show you into a room where you would be administered a pain medication. Then when a dr was available, he would request tests and take over your care. Now. You are a number like anyone else. I don’t know how many of you reading this have had a kidney stone attack. It is the worse torturous pain you can imagine. I was sobbing and puking into a puke bag, which I was handed at the window and told to take a seat. It was hours before I was seen. They finally hooked me up to meds. I had been crying for so long, that when relief came, I still cried. I said thank you , I don’t know how many times! This is maybe my 6th attack. 1st was when I was 34 and 4 months pregnant. I am now 64, and am a sitting time bomb. I live alone, but I am sent home with painkillers and a stone that is now out of my kidney and into my uryter. This is NOT healthcare. This is TORTURE and this is not the end of it. I will go further and tell my story. How the staff treated me while I was in agony. And it wasn’t that I was uncooperative. The only thing I did was ask for someone to please help me. I honestly think that a person can go into shock and die from that pain. I also have 2 stones in my right kidney that are behaving right now. The staff at Lakeridge Oshawa do not give a ______! Very disappointed and scared Susan
I don’t think it’s the best hospital but some Doctors were very nice as well as some nurses were good . Overall they were not very helpful although my daughter was allowed to stay with her father while he was dying and she was provided a sleeping couch. Nothing much to say but the hospital staff was least helpful or friendly. It used to be a good hospital when I was admitted many many years ago . Now the staff and the administration doesn’t treat good as they used to be.
If i could give zero star i would this place is a joke and always has been they need to get rid of half the useless nurses down there and get more drs in the ER. Took my daughter down to the er at 9:30 in the morning and at 5:00 pm im still waiting to pick her up.
Worst staff for ER ! No manners what so ever!! Terrible Terrible customer service! ER STAFF NEEDS TO VE REPLACED . If you can find another hospital
We went to the Lakeridge Health Oshawa emergency on January 16, 2016 at approximately 3:30pm. We went because my 14 month old had a fever since 2:00am that morning, due to his meningitis shot 2 days prior. The fever persisted so we decided to go to emerge. We waited about 40 minutes to see a Triage nurse who took his temperature and monitored his breathing. She was great and very friendly. We were then told to wait and that the Waiting Room nurse would give him some Tylenol for his fever. This he did, but he was a complete douche and so unprofessional and irritable. He was a young guy and I thought, "why is he in this profession if he obviously hates it?" I realize that emergency staff are not customer service representatives, but this guy was extremely impatient and so rude to other patients, I was shocked. After about 2.5 hours, I asked what our wait time was and we were told there were 6 people in front of us. We waited another 2 hours and were then told there were 8 people in front of us. So we left. Our baby had cooled down at that point and he was getting very tired. I can't believe during the 4.5 hours we were there, no one called us up to take his temperature or see how he was doing. I know they were really busy, and this probably isn't in protocol, but if our baby wasn't that severe, why would they not have instructed us that he would probably be more comfortable at home. Give him a luke warm bath and Tylenol every 4 hours. Instead we had to wait in a busy and sickly waiting room, that smelled like booze and cigarettes, with a baby who had a fever. I'm so angry and disappointed. Everyone there seemed frazzled and disorganized. Awful experience.
Worst hospital to go for any service. My friend's husband came for very very emergency. They didn't care. He got fits, while waiting at the emergency. There was no nurse on the floor, to assist. He was admitted for 2 weeks, not a proper response. PLEASE DONT GO HERE.
If there was an option to put a 0 I would. This hospital has extremely rude staff who shows zero compassion for patients. The staff, doctors and admin need a lesson on kindness.
I was brought into lakeridge emergency in Oshawa by ambulance due to severe chest pain and difficulty breathing. Not only did the emergency department allow me to not be seen for 5.5 hours while I was crying that I couldn’t breathe and vomiting everywhere , but the doctor misdiagnosed me and gave me a prescription for something I didn’t even need. I was told I had bronchitis and was given a prescription to treat bronchitis. 3 days later the same thing happened and a different hospital told me my gallbladder was completely full of stones which lodged into my pancreas and creating swelling all over my upper abdominal area and I had emergency surgery. DO NOT go to this hospital. No matter what the problem is AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!
Been there for angiogram amazing staff and doctors. Nurses especially Nicol and Anna are true life savers, super caring... had an amazing experience Thank you soo much Anna and Nicol
My Nurse is LEAH, her experience, kindness, knowledge , care & communication put big smile on my face . I never see greatest nurse like her in my life . I have dizziness & my head spinning all the time ,I’m unable to use my right arm bc I have serious injury in my right shoulder. I have injuries in my neck & my back & I do everything with my left hand. I have Very bad nausea . I asked few nurses to help me to change my bedsheet & they refused & they know that I have very bad dizziness & my head spinning. I asked LEAH & she changed my bedsheets & she gave me new pants , & even she helped me to shave my beard bc my dizziness & my head spinning. LEAH she deserves the highest position bc her greatest experience, kindness, patient & she care so much . I’m asking the MANAGER kindly to highlight her name on appreciation letter or certificate & to give her big thanks & big compliments on nurses meeting so other nurses will be encouraged to treat patients with respect & dignity. The patients they have very high expectations from the nurses to help them , but in fact i I was abused by tow nurses very badly & I was crying so much bc I got very depressed. I asked few nurses to give my msg to the manager since last Friday but I didn’t see her . LEAH SHE IS THE ICON OF all NURSES . LEAH she’s like THE WORLD NURSES GOT TALENT & the winner is LEAH. Thank you.
This hospital is in desperate need of more funding. It is absolutely disgusting that the government of ontario has allowed the situation here to deteriorate so much. The staff is so overworked that they make constant (unintentional mistakes); and the er is so crowded that it can take more than 3 hours to be seen for potentially life threatening issues. I am absolutely outraged at the state of this hospital, something like this should not be happening just 30 minutes east of Toronto.
It would seem that the aged are the least of importance at the hospital. I suggest they send someone to Barrie's hospital, to see how a hospital should be run. I can only guess the reason for the grouchy uncaring staff is because they are being worked to death. Emergency in every hospital is taxed to the max and to be expected. Not all cases are emergency, in their defence. Let's try and not waste their time.
Covid rules really need to be rethought. They wouldn't even let me into the hospital to walk my husband to be checked in for surgery. For SURGERY. Meanwhile they are allowing visitors? But I can't just make sure everything is in place for them to call me? Had an anxiety attack in the parking lot because of it.
Worst Hospital in Ontario by far! My husband went there with Pancreatitis he nearly died because of this, he had to lay down on the waiting room floor because he could not sit in a chair the pain was intolerable (Pancreatitis is considered much more painful than giving birth, and most types of cancer, just bringing this up so people un aware understand the severity of the pain) the nurse at the desk giggled and said "Hey ya better get up off that floor before we come over their and cut ya open!" (while smirking) zero concern for my husband. Finally after he could not get up off the floor he was assisted in to the second waiting room where he was stuck on a bed the would not even hold a toddler barely and his legs over the end. Despite crying in pain they did nothing, took them hours to do bloodwork, then they stated "nothing was wrong". We immediately left this corrupt ridiculous hospital and went to Bowmanville Hospital after having to call an abulance because my husband could not sit in the car the pain was so bad, within less than an hour Bowmanville hospital did bloodwork, and found out his pancreas was enlarged 3x the normal size and pushing against all his other organs and he almost died. The doctor and nurse reviewed the blood work Oshawa got and the machine clearly underlines if their is a problem with blood work, the staff there at Oshawa so corrupt and horrible could not even notice something a 5 year old could have. My husband nearly died, and thank god the people at Bowmanville hospital are well trained, and actually do their job or my husband would have been dead because of their corruption and stupidity. I have heard nothing but horror storie's about this hospital from everyone I know that attended there. I suggest you go to Ajax or Bowmanville Hospital if you have any concern for you or your loved one's lives, that hospital is corrupt, and numerous people have died because their staff cannot do what they are paid to do, and treat patients like garbage, After reading the other reviews above it appears we are not alone, and the Government needs to do something about this hell hole so more people don;t die because of their corruption and carelessness towards sick people and children. Any other health issues I go to Ajax or Bowmanville, or Port Perry I will never attend that hospital for any reason whatsoever. If any government official reads this I suggest you do something about the treatment and deaths caused by this horrible hospital before you get sued, the nurses and staff at that place are horrible, I am sure their may b a few good ones, but the majority of them need to be replaced. Anyone else that experiences similar problems please post it, do not bother contact the complaint department of that hospital they do nothing about it, and do not return your calls if you leave a message. Please contact the news, or your local MP, and write reviews on here if you experience similar problems. I will assume staff there will leave positive comments after this to undermine this review so please follow through so no one else nearly dies like my husband, and who knows how many other people experience hell when they need emergency help. Thank you Bowmanville and Ajax hospital for caring for your patients, unlike this hellhole.
Where to begin. Nurses that don’t care, or a place where when the doctor wanted to wash his hands he didn’t have soap (this is in emergency room and during the pandemic). I have always said I am sure there are some good nurses out there but not in this hospital, if one could call it that
40+ people all have been waiting over 3 hours. They're processing about 1 person every 15 minutes but in taking 2 every 15 minutes. They have more security personnel than doctors. It's super dirty too. Unfortunately, this seems to be the norm based on my few trips here. It's sad that this is how taxpayer money is being spent.
My name Nasser Sharafi Leah was my nurse, I never see great person like her , her kindness. Knowledgeable, helpful, & greatest communication put big small on my face .. I have few injuries in car accident, I’m unable to use my right hand bc I have bad injuries in my right shoulder ., I do everything with left hand, I have bad concussions, I have bad dizziness & no balance, I get nightmares often & I get spasms often bc the pain. I asked few nurses to help me to change my bed sheet & they refused & I explained to than my dizziness, head injuries & my head spinning all the time . But I asked Leah to help me & change the bedsheets for me & then she helped me to shave my long bear , Leah is remarkable nurse, she care so much about the patients. She deserves the highest position but must of the nurses needs to learn communication, kindness & how to care about patients, that’s why it read many bad reviews about them , I was abuse by tow nurses verbally, they were very bully & I was so scared & crying bc them . I’m asking the manager kindly to write appreciation letter or certificate & to give her big thanks & big compliments in meeting front of the nurses, so may be they will learn something from LEAH EXPERIENCE, also I’m asking the manager to reply to my email or to visit me . Thank u LEAH SO MUCH FOR YOUR HREAT SERVICE & your are the icon & the model of all nurses bc I needed see kind & experience nurse for the last 50 years like u.
I wish I could put 0 stars ! Brought my wife to emerg trying to get help for her . The nurses were extremely rude, unprofessional, showed no empathy for a stage 4 cancer patient to the point of yelling at the family after 3 hours of waiting. Misdiagnosed her on a previous visit and she had to have emergency surgery at a real health care facility . (Sunnybrook) This hospital needs a serious overhaul in the ER. The cancer clinic on the other hand is amazing the doctors and nusres are great and should be the standard for the rest of the hospital to follow.!
Arrived at 11:15am, sent me for blood test, return sitting, call back for ex ray. Send me back at waiting room . 5:15 PM send me in for urine test. Have not received resold, it's 6PM. Staff were more interested in ending there shift.
I have received good help from exactly one doctor there in the 5 years living here.
Can't give lower than 1 star. Went to emergency on Thursday afternoon, with nausea and vomiting. I sat for 3 hours in the waiting room. When I got into the examination area, the doctor and nurses were quite pleasant and helpful. Then it changed. I was being made fun of, and accused of being a junkie. I was admitted and moved to another area. Staff there were wonderful, as were the staff on 9main. I would wish nobody the experience that I initially had. Soured the whole experience. I will be contacting their legal department. No doctor came near me after the initial consultation until I went to another part of emergency
Truly the worst hospital i have ever received care from, the staff does not care about a single patient in there and it is more than apparent. Their mental health department is a joke, i have never felt as though they listen to any of my concerns. Lake ridge hospital is just trying to get you out, they are not there to help. All of my friends have had the same terrible experience at this hospital as well. Do yourself a favour and drive over to a neighbouring city and get help at a different hospital it will save you time and trouble.
I spent a few weeks in Lakeridge Hospital, and I was a regular at the Cancer Center in Oshawa, for over a year. That was five years ago now. And I seen first hand, the hard work that all the Nurses do. They were amazing. Every one of them, were there for the passion to help others get well. And I also seen the abuse they put up with. None of them deserved any of it. All of the Great Nurses, and Doctors, and Hospital Support Staff, saved my life. I wouldn't be here without them. And thanks to their continuing great work, I'm still Cancer free. We will all have to visit a Hospital sometime in our lives. Please give the great people that work there, the respect they deserve. One day, they will save your life.
After a twelve night stay with lots of up and downs, I would not want to stay here. While the nursing staff was OK the physio people were rude and ineffective. When I requested to meet with the care coordinator, she came to the room with physio and home care to discharge. My son was discharged unable to walk. We are seniors, they were aware of our concerns but sent him home with us. It sure felt like if you were unhappy with the service, instead of trying to fix the issue they just send you home. I am disgusted.
I was rushed to the ER at Lakeridge Oshawa following a serious car accident. I was not in a good state at the time, but they were very thorough in their assessment of me, conducted all necessary tests, and scheduled very comprehensive follow up meetings with various specialists. In the end, it was an 8+ month recovery period, but in hind sight, I am very grateful for the timely and competent initial actions taken at Lakeridge Oshawa in my regard.
On March 1st( 2 days ago) my mom( 78 years old) arrived in a ambulance with a 219/120 high blood pressure..They checked her heart and just decided she was ok..They sent her home..How is that possible? High blood pressure is a silent killer!!! Since then, she doesn't want to go back ....Who is going to be responsible if something happens to her?????????????
My friend broke her arm and they discharged her with no diagnosis. Had to go to a different hospital to get the diagnosis and proper care! How do you let a patient leave with a broken arm?! Disgraceful!!!! Absolutely unbelievable.
Bad experience with nurses and doctors. Nurse at the waiting area was quite rude. Doctor was dismissive, did not properly evaluate the patient, gave inadequate medication and sent her home. Wait time was quite unreasonable and the hospital seemed understaffed. The medical concern was unresolved. The next day we went to North York General instead and had a far better experience all around.
Someone was brought in by ambulance and police with suicidal ideation actually he called the police himself this morning as was going to act on it. He was seen in the ER and was released without seeing a crisis worker and on top of that was discharged to home with no way to get there. As a crisis nurse for many years I can’t fathom not putting him on a Form 1 and admission to hospital when this person was seeking help. Yes he was on heavy drugs but for God’s sake help the young man. This has happened before. He is seeking to go to a drug rehab centre and is getting no help I may be an older nurse but can still do crisis psych. So I would like to know why the majority of reviews are very negative. Perhaps the hospital CEO and Board of Directors need to see these reviews. Obviously something is very wrong .
I went to the hospital in severe pain in my lower right abdomen. The first doctor I got was fantastic. He was doing tests and provided pain medication to try to help. He was thorough. Unfortunately, his shift ended and the young doctor that took his place was the worst doctor I had ever met. Because the tests the other doctor did hadn't had any thing showing he sent me home stills in severe pain and said come back if you start vomiting and have diarrhea. Ended back in Emerge 2 days later after being in such pain the two days before with no stop to it for the reason he said to come back. The doctor that day did absolutely nothing. First I was taken to a room and waited 4 hours in a nearly empty emerg for the shift change to happen before I saw a doctor who did nothing but kick me out to my family doctor within 5 minutes of seeing me. I sent an email to the CEO and President who was apologitic and said he'd forward my experience to the right person. That lady called and said someone would be in contact from their patient experience Dept. I have yet to hear anything. It's been over a month.
in 2021 i was in this hospital for mental health reasons and there was this one nurse who was completely rude. And when i complained to them about it they didnt do anything.
I would rather drive to ANY hospital around the GTA, no matter how far it is, if it meant not having to go to this hospital again. Went to the ER with an extremely elevated heart rate and chest pain. Was initially hesitant to go because of the way this same hospital treated my poor grandmother 5 years back, but that was a while ago so I gave them another chance. Well chance given, and the staff are still just as rude and negligent as I remembered them. I was left sitting in a chair for 4+ hours in lots of pain and increasing anxiety due to my racing heart. Nurses kept saying they still don’t have time nor room for me and refused to do anything for me until they did. After finally being seen by a doctor, he tells me this is all caused by anxiety and prescribes me anxiety medication. I knew in my gut it was definitely NOT that but he rushed through his conversation with me and refused to do any tests to rule out other causes. Needless to say the next morning when my symptoms were still the same, I went to another hospital where they actually bothered to run tests and I got the proper answers I was looking for. Never again.
This hospital holds, and has held for decades, the worst standards of service and professionalism. They are notorious for a lack of accountability for their mistakes causing great detriment, and some of the nurses are beyond disgraceful with their rudeness and cruel behaviours. Absolutely appalling behaviours demonstrated by some of the professionals in this facility. And some of the professionals here are nothing short of incompetent and negligent. Not even at my point of death would I permit anyone to bring me to this horrific facility.
Been in hospital two times for total of 26 days. Unfortunately the staff in this hospital should be ashamed how they treat patients from Emergency to a patient being admitted. There are some decent nurses but unfortunately the bad ones really make you being there terrible and feeling helpless. I have seen them be little staff except for the Doctors which they kiss the Dr. butt. About 50% of the nurses are terrible and it's sad because there are some that do a great job. To many of them have a control attitude! I truly believe Ontario would be better off if we had to pay out of pocket for treatment but unfortunately most cannot afford it. Sad because are taxes pay their salary but since we don't pay them directly most staff think they can be incredibly rude to their patients. If you don't have family or friends visit you because they live far away or whatever reason. Your in for a terrible time. If you cannot walk and need anything the nurses will not help you. Family or friends are your best luck to get anything you need. Most hospitals in Ontario are like this that I have personally seen but Oshawa's hospital is by far the worst.
My grandfather gets radiation everyday for 21 days straight! The nurses are so friendly + respectful + super kind! Great job you guys are Awesome!
My 84 year old father was taken by ambulance, he ended up in a chair for two hours in a waiting room! He felt faint with no staff checking on him no one to help you, and of course no family because of COVID-19 protocol. Finally he was taken to a cubby room on a bed where he stayed for two+ days! He was then moved up to the 9th floor to a semi private, where the nurses were excellent! Unfortunately, we can’t say that about the doctor in charge of his case. The doctor, that I wouldn’t name did not visit him, we asked for him to call a family member to give an update, the call never came! There was one specialist that saw him after a procedure but of course he could not comprehend what he said! A 2 star is a fair score! It appears that there are too many doctors and nurses using The pandemic for their laziness and lack off caring!!
I really want to thank most of the people at lakeridge health Oshawa as even though they are understaffed and truly at the brink of a meltdown they truly have compassion. You know who you are!!! Now the 2 refrigeration techs who took ice/ water machine from C6 for a cleaning on Tuesday January 14 till Thursday the 16th and still ongoing shame on you. The ward of the hospital is for oncology and many of the terminally ill patients last joy in life is sucking on ice. It's truly a injustice to all the patients. I really hope people read this and pass this along to make a change for the better. I normally would just let this slide but this is way too important and should not happen in this day and age
Literally in the er right now, been waiting for 5 hours and have not spoken to a single doctor or been updated by any nurse. This is a horrible horrible hospital, the staff may seem nice but it could be managed better by high schoolers. This is what our tax dollers go and it's disgusting, the pandemic is not an excuse for have people waiting in pain and suffering for hours. This hospital is a joke and represents the worst parts of our province.
Emergency department seems to literally not care . Nurses text messaging , giggling, etc . They had open rooms but basically move patients to outside waiting area ( reception) and keep their area clear. Someone's going to die and lawsuits will ensure, if not already. I have stage 3 cancer and had heart issues yesterday and day before. They treated me and my spouse with disrespect and competent. We felt like we were "bothering" the staff. They left small children waiting and an older man with head injury in external wait area. Disgusting.
I have just had a hip replacement and cannot complain about the care I received. From pre-op to discharge. Staff was very caring and looked after me very well. Also having staples removed and X-ray every one was efficient and I was done within an hour. I have to say it is a big improvement from 11 years ago when my husband was hospitalized.
My father who suffers from COPD was sent by ambulance to Lakeridge Oshawa over the Christmas holidays. He was discharged too early and the floor coordinator threatened to send my 84 year old ill father home in a cab from Oshawa to Mississauga in a blizzard. I informed her that she couldn't do that because he had no clothes, no key and no money. I told her that I would try and get in touch with my brother as I was having an anxiety attack and get our father the following morning. Michelle kept telling me that they had discharged him and I had to come and get him. She was rude, obstinate, void of compassion, threatening, tried to brow beat me into picking him up that day. I told her that she was going to send me to Lakeridge with her threatening behaviour but she didn't care. I ended up calling the Patient Care Manager who informed me that my brother and I could take our father home in the morning. Thank you Nicole ❤ After taking our father home to Mississauga, within 2 days he had to call an ambulance and has been in Trillium Hospital and is in palliative care ???? Shame on Lakeridge Oshawa doctors and floor coordinator Michelle. On a good note and the only good note of Lakeridge Oshawa, the nurses who cared for my father were amazing, thank you!!!
We wanted to call and see if we could meet the same doctor we saw in emergency to talk about a case but the people on the phone were extremely rude and bossy. I get there are lots of calls but talking to potential patients that are in pain is so unprofessional. It takes ages to see a doctor and rather than feeling assured that there are professionals taking care of us, it’s scary to go the hospital. We all just pray we never have to see the hospital and considering sickness and pain it is definitely not a good thing. Aren’t we supposed to feel at ease being in a hospital and under professional care?
Very very disappointed with them today I’ve been in the E.R since 8 this morning because my son who’s 10 months old was having a hard time breathing. I called telehealth they advised me to take him to the hospital and that they were going to inform the hospital that we were on the way to speed up the process.. well let me tell you that they forgot that we were there until (230) my wife went up to them and asked to see a doctor cause his temperature was going up again. That’s when they knew they messed up, right away they went to the back and then a doctor came to see him.
I gave birth to my son on November 20th and I was so pleased with my experience. My first attending nurse was comforting throughout my wait for an epidural and was very attentive to my needs for comfort. The OB on call was so calm, his voice was incredibly soothing and he made me feel like I was in good hands. We avoided complications and a very big shoutout to Ashley, who delivered my son. She was so patient and encouraging and I felt safe and determined. I had a great delivery and these 3 truly made it what it was. Thank you to them, from my and my son Max
The emergency department was great the two times I went. The nurses and doctors were great. The only issue is the size of the emergency is small. They also experience over crowding with patients left in the hall way on beds.
Worst hospital to receive treatment. Staffs are extremely rude and disrespectful to patients. Not enough doctors to look after the patients at emergency and unreasonably waiting time for emergency.l. I've gone to emergency for multiple issues with my family. They let us sit in the waiting room for 10 hour's due to MISPLACED PAPERWORK. very rude unprofessional. Public servant we pay their salary&works for us . At least try to be a human being, not heartless. lacking humanity.
Called almost every person in this hospital today and everyone was so caring and supportive, they all went above and beyond to help me with my problem and resolved it very quickly. Much better than the PRHC which I also had to deal with for this particular issue. Amazing amazing amazing
My girlfriend gave birth May 15th and I was very impressed with not just the knowledge of the RNs and doctors but the empathy of them. They suggested a C - section when she wasn’t dilating after getting oxytocin. Baby was not responding good to it. They gave it one more shot and my girlfriend started dilating which made us super happy! The encouragement and the teamwork of these women are just phenomenal and as a male I appreciate everything you did for my girlfriend in the time it took to deliver my son. Dr. Ammons, Dr. Gao, Jess, Amy, Vanessa and the stand by nurses god bless all you to a prosperous future and keep doing what you do!
I went into emergency with chest pain, I had a heart attack three weeks ago and was concerned about how I felt. I was greeted very professionally and received prompt care. Dr. Krishnan Although very busy explained my test results and assured me that everything was fine. He is very kind and dedicated. All of the nurses were excellent And professional.
My friend has been in this hospital for a week and has been receiving terrible service. He is ignored, not cared for and feels like he is left there to rot. At night, he freezes and nobody comes to arrange or give him more blankets. This is only one of many examples as far as lack of service. One staff member named Lewis was great, otherwise, no one else left a good impression. The patient’s wife would call for updates as the situation was frightening, and no answers from tests were consistent with the condition he was in. It remains a mystery. She felt like a burden to them every time she called and one male nurse in particular was condescending both times he spoke with her. No stay in a hospital is ever fun but I hope they never again have to deal with this hospital.
I had a very bad experience at Lakeridge hospital ER. Few months ago I had a miscarriage and I was new to this & the closest hospital was Lakeridge so we decided to go. My husband wasn’t allowed to go with me because of COVID situation so I had to wait there by myself more than 3 hours with BAD PAIN and yet no one showed any compassion, no care. At least they should take care of their patients. I just needed small help. I was throwing up and was alone in all this.
Incredibly slow working hospital that will make you wait 7 hours just to tell you they are too busy to deal with you. It's more worth your time to drive an extra hour to a different hospital. I'm also convinced they only have 1 doctor on staff at all times because of how unorganized and slow the entire process is. People who arrived 90 minutes after myself had been helped and left before I was seen. Completely unacceptable.
Walked in and registered with the surgical department and the nurse behind glass was absolutely just a rude disgruntled human being. Talked to my family like we were barn animals. Not a good first impression when traveling 3hrs to meet with my wife’s surgeon. This nurse needs to take a human relations course. Legit. So hospital court, start evaluating your employees cause people are your business. Thank you
Terrible hospital with even worse doctors. I almost died in November 2017 due to lack of patient care. Doctors dont listen to you and dont even give you the time of day. The ER is a nightmare and most of the visits people probably end up dissatisfied or arent even looked after\what brought you go the hospital
THE worst hospital nursing staff our family has ever dealt with. No bedside manner, no empathy from any of the ER Staff. They lied about the care/assistance they were giving my wife. They also attempted to administer medication that my wife is highly allergic to. Even having immediate access to the list her allergies Infront of them. Good thing my wife is aware of what she can and cannot have. But what if she didn't?
Zero compassion. I was here for a stomach virus . Waiting was only 5 hrs long because only a few people were there in the morning . I had to do my IV in the main waiting room , with 2 small children watching me puke my brains out. Scaring them indefinitely. Shame on you Lakeridge. This isn't how I remember being treated as a child coming to Oshawa hospital .
Terrible hospital. Avoided medical malpractice as patient was mute for 3 years from trauma (2 years to from moment of incident to sue) but will not slip criminal charges of assault, illegal detainment and administrating drugs into a patient causing allergic reaction. Tried to refuse to give the list of drugs administered and then when demanding them by law to give them recieved a sticky note? Unprofessional. A 90 year old woman who was treated terribly there refused to go back there even after breaking her hip. If you have to go to a hospital, go elsewhere. Do not let this hospital traumatize you out of your future health care.
The worst hospital that I have ever been. ER staff is awful, seems like all of them need a lesson on humanity and the field they are working in. I took my 92 year old mother on the Suspension of a blood clot, and she was still waiting in the waiting room for 4hrs. Staff is incompetent and rude. Seems like they are there just for their pay cheque not to serve. Most of the time staff chatting inside by the nurses station with no care for patients outside waiting. I have been to this hospital many times and never had a good experience.
I had an awesome experience at lakeridge health this week. Dr Garrit Murray and the staff at emergency helped me get back up and moving around when I couldn't. They provided me with a diagnosis and treatment program that I felt was very thorough. I followed up with my family physcian as well and he did not change anything the emergency department had me doing for treatment. I'm very thankful for the care I received at lakeridge!
Mixed reactions. Very much depends on the individual staff and unit. Definitely poor communication between HCPs; nurses come on shift with limited understanding of patient condition. Granted, we were dealing with a senior with multiple complex health conditions. Specific concerns: dirty sheets (crusty mucus?) on bed, delivery of an expired egg salad sandwich (rec'd on Sunday, with "use by Saturday" sticker on it), and a lot of blood spilled and smeared down hallway in G wing. When nursing station was told of the spill, response was "yes, we're aware." Kind of would have expected staff to be a little more concerned about spilled bodily fluids. However, did receive open, honest communication from Dr. Callow regarding dad's prognosis, excellent service from nurses in palliative care wing, and helpful support from Customer Service regarding arranging an offsite autopsy. Overall, this experience was not terrible, but past visits to ER have led to premature discharge, and possible misdiagnoses. There is room for improvement in: i) ER staff (doctors on phones, chatting /joking with staff while patients wait, and rush to discharge in order to not have to deal with patient issues, etc. Yes they're busy, we get that. But efficiency can be improved.); ii) improved hygiene/cleaning (maybe union limits who can do what, but seems a lot of blood in hall should be addressed sooner rather than later); iii) better training of dietary services staff (father dieing, but lady comes to ask for menu selections for next day; delivery of expired food; seems they are "doing a job" with little sensitivity) iv)better transition of files/patient info when nursing shift changes v) better communication with family on who is doctor in charge at a given time and communication back to family on test results and next steps; vi) availability of a patient (or family) ombudsman where concerns can be shared. Not sure of process to make suggestions for improvements.
saved my life but had i died my last moments would have been nurses and security guards acted fed up with no care or compassion. i was begging to see my family while restrained and they wouldnt let me see them until i "calmed down". i would ask if i were going to die and i got responses such as "you did this to yourself" and very huffy, annoyed behaviour. i feel so sorry for those who have been to this hospital in mental health crisis and didnt make it out, i cant imagine how lonely and hurtful and terrible those last moments would have been. i have come out of this with a far worse outlook on humanity. i have a lot of rage in response to this however i didnt show it to anyone in the hospital, and im not showing it on here either but trust that it is there.
Do not go here for mental health related issues. I was treated poorly when I was meant to see a psychiatrist and told that "young people always think there's something wrong with them" when I am a 23 year old childhood sexual abuse survivor trying to seek help for my PTSD. The nurse or whatever she was (doing the "vetting process") spent majority of the time talking about her own issues and barely asked me anything about my mental state. The few things she did ask I wasn't even comfortable by that point to talk about. When I tried explaining that I dissociate I was told "that's a very big word". I was crying majority of the time and to that was asked "are you angry with me, you look like you want to hit me" when I was just trying to hold back tears. I had to put a smile on my face because I thought it might help me get the care I was asking for. I went to talk therapy and after and bawled my eyes out, my therapist was appalling by how I was treated. I was told I should report this but I dont know if it'd be worth doing. I should've read these reviews before. I will never be going back to this hospital. Imagine if someone who was suicidal received this treatment... mental health needs to be taken more seriously. I feel like she meant well but due to ageism and being jaded towards people "faking it" didn't consider my situation valid. I was in such a vulnerable position and to be invalidated like that was a horrible experience. Never going back.
My husband went by ambulance to Oshawa because he is too weak to walk further than a few steps without being out of breath. And he was having tightness in his chest. They gave him nitro in the ambulance and the tightness went away. They did blood work and a chest X-ray Told him his results were “relatively “ normal and discharged him. No cardiac tests at all, just a referral to a cardiologist. No diagnosis. I guess I just keep my fingers crossed! Won’t go back there.
My father in law was taken to the ER, he did get a good doctor. Some of the nurses are great but there are some that clearly do not like their job. The four stars is for the doctor who treated my father in law.
Wish I could give a rating of zero. Came in last Thursday by ambulance with a head injury. Staff did not speak directly to me at any point, or inform me of what was going on/what they needed from me. My wounds were barely looked at nor were they cleaned. Ended up needing several stitches in my chin, today I had them removed and was told who ever had put them in used a method never seen before. They also neglected to give me any information about concussions or tell me that I had a severe one. Avoid this hospital if you can, horrible waste of tax payers money.
This hospital has had a lot of renovations done over the last 10 years, and contrast to other hospital is always very clean and well maintained. The staff are hit and miss, and could be made to appreciate their work more even though it is some of the hardest work to do. The wait time is not as bad as other hospitals comparatively.
