Here you will see the opinions of real people like you who are using the products of Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Hospital (Hospital) in the territory of Ontario (Canada).
As of day this business has a score of 2.1 out of 5 and the score has been calculated on 127 reviews.
As you can read, its rating is weak, and it is based on a high number of reviews, so we can conclude that the rating is quite accurate. If people have bothered to leave their feddback when they've done well, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to give tatings when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Hospital belongs to the category of General hospital.
Best hospital in the durham region. Drs care and take excellent care of my autistic son
Delivered my son here, nothing but great reviews thank you Claudette and Laura and Dr Pierre all kind and wonderful people
I would give zero stars if I could .. Uncmunicaive.. EXTREMELEY disorganized Nothing to do with wait times. But too many errors.. Go to a real hospital..
I called in er to ask a simple question and was treated with extreme rudeness from one of the nurses and was left shocked and confused as how this could even happen. When i told her i felt offended and i would be making a complaint (which i never ended up doing because i just said forget it) she laughed and said go for it and hung up on me. The question i asked? "Do they have a blood lab in ER open 24 hours for non emergency patients or is it only for emergency patients?" An incident before this happened years ago where i was brought in a wheelchair by paramedics and this really overweight obese male nurse was smoking outside and sarcastically shouted at the paramedics to get me out of the wheelchair as i could easily walk and was fine. This is after i had fallen off a ladder and had leg numbness and shaking. Sadly, these are 2 of the only experiences ive had at this hospital. Wish i could have at least 1 good one. I dont know what the hell is wrong with this place and its staff..at least the emergency room staff .i wont let it happen a 3rd time thats for sure.
Extremely bad, I watched somebody bleed out and ask for help and be told to wait there turn. That same person demand to be seen, escalated things (as he should), and was told to leave. Security was called on the gentleman bleeding out his foot was escorted out the hospital who could barley walk. If I could give no starts I would!, as they DO NOT prioritize severity. I left after waiting 4hrs.
Amazing and caring staff. Excellent care. Experienced doctors. Keep up the good work!!
Went to the ER with a bowel obstruction and intense pain. Eight hours later, a doctor says, "I don't know. Maybe you have a bug or something?" Was eventually treated successfully....but not before going to another hospital.
Nurses are nice and friendly at this hospital. But the doctors are not the smartest at this hospital. We dealt with some Asian doctor who was literally like “I don’t know how to diagnose this” umm well then why are you a doctor?! We went to our family doc next day and he figured right away that my husband’s stomach and back pain was because of a severe viral infection. He gave him some meds that relieved the pain with the very first dose.
I was worried when I saw the low rating of this hospital. This is the second time I had to bring my daughter (6yrs) into emergency and both times I’ve had exceptional nurses and doctors. I am utterly amazed at how nice and caring they were towards my daughter as well as other patience around us. They even gifted my daughter with a TY stuffy! They talked me through the whole procedure and what to expect and what was going to be done for my daughter, I was well informed by the staff. I only had one nurse (Jessica) who was monitoring my daughters vital signs when she was sedated where she seemed either new at the job or she didn’t care to be there. Other than that, our experience at Lakeridge Hospital was great. Thank you to all the staff!
My experience at this hospital was amazing and very pleasant. I had my baby girl delivered there, all the doctors, nurses are so professional, kind and friendly. They make sure that I understand everything and have all useful information that I needed. Thanks so much for your hard work and your kindness !!!!
Wish I could give this place 0 stars. Worst hospital I've ever been too. Staff in triage are very rude, little to no covid procedures in the waiting room, no communication to many of us who have been waiting for hours, can't eat or drink (not like anything is open or available), and a senior citizen in a wheelchair has been asking for a glass of water for 2h and being ignored by staff.
Not a good hospital.
Garbage place .I went with a 4 year old who is burning up and am here now and they said 4 people in front of me .I got here at 1 and still in the waiting room at 7pm with a sick child..never again would 8 come here ...garbage
Great nurses, great care, have to the hospital a few times too many because of family members. They were all well looked after each time. Specially the amazing nurses in Emergency, really professional, caring and sympathetic.
Nicely maintained, neat n clean place
An excellent Healthcare facility!
Nurses are so rude. They don’t care! The worst hospital ever!
Walked into the ER and overheard a patient advising the nurse that she was having a lot difficulty breathing, nurse replied very rudely “you just talked so you are fine” and slammed the door on her. This attitude plus the 8 hour wait time meant I was off to another hospital. One of the worst triage processes I have ever seen, a basic number system would do wonders here.
So bad experience. Even though I have an appointment waited like hours with my new born. Horrible
Long waiting time for emergency.. more than 4 hours... Getting worsening these days...
That's the only Hospital I go to,I have bin well taking care of.
Back in January of this year I went in to find out why I was dealing with pain in my left shoulder. After dealing with the old hurry up and wait life I went in and got X-rays and an ultrasound the following day only to find out that they couldn't find anything. Physiotherapy however determined I damaged my left pectoral muscle from repetitive motion
Do not bring your child to this hospital especially if they have special needs
Poor Management. They have no value for patient's time or condition. You still have to wait 4 hours even if you are dying to get a doctor check up.
Worst ER. I went to er at 2 am With severe stomach pain and vomiting. I know the waiting time in triage keeping that in mind i asked if i can get some place or bed to lie down as my pain was severe going from my stomach to back i was unable to sit. I thew up in Triage washroom couple of time. When i asked for assistance i got only rude answers from nurseS saying as you can come here to tell you can Go back and Sit down AND wait after couple of hours i got examined and was told that my ultra sound will be around 8 am in morning. They gave me medicine and iv which made me shiver with cold i asked nurse for a blanket for about 5 times he kept saying ok, his shift changed he went and never came back with blanket. I was not the only one who was getting treated like this they were rude to evryone New nurse came she provided me a blanket. I used washroom by myself even with pain as i gave hope on anyone of them and i heard saying them she is fine she can walk people dont walk in er by themself. But one of the nurse realized i am having difficulty in walking she provided me wheelchair and assisted me. Aafter 8 am i saw few patients who came to er in much better condition than me got their ultra sound done before me and when i asked what about my ultra sound they kept saying when they will tell us we will call you, go in your sit. Ultra sound didnt show anything so i had to go for ct scan which i got done at 7 pm in the evening. i got diagnosed with kidney infection. New shift and new nurses came they were totally different than the earlier one they treated patients as patients they kept asking everyone for assistance. Saw different people doing same job in different way. Hope you never end up in ER take care of yourself.
I was taken into hospital quickly. Nurses were very quick with getting my breathing under control and couldn't be kinder. I had congestive heart failure, the nurses all new what to do. They have my all time respect. Good work Ajax Hospital.
Its way better than oshawa one, today , i i took my kids for fever, the nurse's were so amazing ...the doctor was so caring.i still dont know what is wrong with the oshawa one.....very rude nurses, doctors Don't care. My kids were x rayed and diagonised and prescribed, thanks alot alot rouge valley ajax.
Went to their shoulder clinic. Excellent service, friendly staff.
I was initially nervous about delivering at this hospital because of the google reviews, but in the end, I'm glad I did. The labour and delivery team is amazing. From the front desk, to the nurses and doctors, everyone was friendly and helpful. Great Wifi! The downside is the parking is the most expensive of all lakeridge locations ($4 per half hour/$16 max). This is 2 times more expensive than bowmanville/whitby, 4 times more expensive than port perry,
On hold for over 30 minutes for them to just initially pick up the phone… I then ask if they do certain imaging for x-rays, the girl at the x-ray imaging department, had absolutely no clue… she then transferred me over to a completely wrong department. ???????? Great job at failing to do the basics ????????
One of the main problems with the Emergency room is no one knows who is next. There is no number system so patients wait in a row of chairs, some standing, some sitting and try to figure out who is next, mind you these are all sick people. Pro tip: invest a few dollars into a numbering system to save the staff and patients frustration. Then the emerg nurse says something through a garbled speaker (asking if you've been out of the country) which no one can hear. After you're done with triage you move to another window where someone does data entry of your info. Data entry in 2019! Let people swipe their health card and move along...but I digress. Then you are told to put your triage papers on a pile with the others and await the man/woman in white to call your name. I don't feel too comfortable with my personal info sitting there for all to see but such is the process. Strange that other hospitals don't have this same system. Why can't the person who inputs the information keep the paperwork and someone get them from her? Better yet do it at the same time in the same place with the triage nurse on a tablet. As for my five hour wait time, perhaps it was a busy day. The doctor apologized for the long wait time even though I never mentioned it. The problem with the health system is that there is no one in charge. No one to administer triage and move things along. A manager in that place would easily allow for at least 4 times more patients to be seen. There is so much repetition. Have you folks heard of Six Sigma process improvement? Likely not. More's the pity. I hope someone reading this sees fit to visit and observe the ER in action and not just file this missive as part of your yearly metrics.
Great place awesome staff in both surgery as well as emergency
In ER, the wait time is EXTREMELY long, even for an Ontario Hospital. My husband and I went there at 4:50 am and waited until 8:10 just to go into the next very small waiting area where others are coughing and no ventilation. In this day of contagious viral infections, we didn't feel comfortable at all in this extremely small space. We stood by the door to get some air and were asked to stand away from the door. It is really cramped in there and we felt like we might leave there with an infection. We didn't leave the hospital until 10:40 (about 6 hours), most of it waiting to be seen by a doctor. It seems like they only have one doctor on at a time in ER. My husband left there with the same pain that got worse over the next few days. After going to our family doctor she recommended we go back to another hospital to do a brain imaging scan. The other hospital (Humber) was MUCH more thorough and organized, and had much cleaner and wider waiting areas. They did all of the tests to rule out any and all possible diagnoses. Most importantly, they took care of the pain right that night, and we didn't leave there until the pain was completely gone and all diagnoses tests utilized. As a publicly funded establishment, Ajax ER just NEEDS to do better. We might not be able to travel to Humber every time we have an urgent ER visit. From waiting space, wait time, ventilation and thoroughness of the doctors, Ajax ER unit needs to do better.
If you need a doctor because you are suffering from illness, physical pain or worse try going to hospital that employs doctor's. This hospital only has long lines of people waiting. That's all.
Even in an emergency I'll go to either Oshawa, Centenary or Markham-Stouffeville just to avoid this place. There's no room to breathe in that place.
After seeing all of these emerg reviews i was shocked that i had a good experience. I got there at 10:30 am and there were only 2 people ahead of me. Triaged, registration, urine sample, bloodtest and ultrasound all done within 2 and a half hours. Was Out the door at 1:00 pm. Nurses and doctor were kind and friendly aswell!
Absolutely disgusted with the wait times. 3 hours went by before even one person was called in from the waiting room. I approached the window to ask when someone would be out to call in patients and wasnt given a time. Instead I was told there was only 1 physician on duty and the emergency room was packed at 2am and continued to be full until 5am. I would recommend any other hospital over ajax. The experience was absolutely horrible.
This is the worst hospital I've ever been to. Took my 80+ yr old grandma to emergency because she was in severe pain and unable to move. She had to wait an hour for registration before she could be taken off the stretcher. Took 3.5 hour before she received any assistance. No help from nurses. Had to take her to the restroom myself. No pain killers were given until 4 hours. No one deserves such pathetic service. Please take your loved ones to a better hospital- one could die waiting for service here
most rude and carless triage nurses ,if you still alive they will never help you or care about you , if the patient is kid or senior that make no deferent, if you colored that will make it even worth . i wish i can do less than 1 star because they don't deserve any . they will never do any action till you see the doctor after 6 : 7 hours of waiting, you will end up more sick and frustrated. i have a very bad experience for every visit . i am driving now half an hour to get real emergency service.
I am very disappointed how they are keeping the positive covid patients right by the entrance door where other patients keep coming in and out, who are negative and don't have symptoms, and you could see the covid patients just sitting there not even 2 meter away.. This is a big hospital and I think they should make a very separate area for positive cases of patients instead of keeping them just by by entrance door where other people keeping passing by, if I knew j would even bother to come to this hospital where I don't feel safe and the safety of other patients should be first too. Very dis
The emergency hospital staff are extremely rude from intake to exit. They talk do you as if you owe them something and that you are bothering them for help. Been very polite with them in asking questions and they talk down to you. Drive to another hospital. Do not donate your money here!
This was my first visit to emergency in over 30 years and honestly appalled by the experience and lack of consideration that is paid to ER visitors. They seem to pick and choose who can come in as visitor during covid times. I was told that my sister couldn't care me with me but this didn't seem to be the case for many other people in the ER room. There are no vending machines or designated areas to get a drink of water so if you expect to wait over 6 hours and make sure to plan accordingly. Also for some reason, my health information including my DOB, phone number, address, emergency contact and health card number was recorded in a phone conversation in a crowded ER. This information is considered private information and should have never been recorded in such a way. Such deplorable patient treatment. Especially at intake.
Waiting times are crazy. Waiting for 13hrs In emerg then another 5 hours in the fracture clinic.
Any emergency visits will take you over 5 hours for anything basic. Stitches will take you up to 8 hours. Even at midnight. Any appointments are usually kept pretty prompt.
tw: mentions of suicide and mental health etc. went here cause i was mentally ill and wanted to die, they provided me with standard emergency mental health services and i really appreciated the group work they provided. the first few nights were rough but then again other places i’ve been checked into treated me way worse. nurses are fantastic and i would recommend this place if you are having serious thoughts of suicide/self harm definitely one of the better emergency mental health services i’ve received. i got diagnosis quickly and put on better meds straight away and i felt genuinely listened to when i voiced my concerns which is so refreshing. i did however have a roommate 3x older than me which was a little unsettling but other than that it was exactly what i needed.
This review is strictly for the Mammography and Ultrasound unit. I haven't had experiences outside of these departments to rate. The Mammography/Ultrasound dept is friendly, efficient, clean and comfortable. I found in the 3 visits I've had in the past yr to all be outstanding. Wait times were more than reasonable. On my past visit I had 2 imaging tests and was out the door within 30 mins.
Essentially they sped up the death of my Father 3 months ago:( i never want to go here ever again..would give-5 stars if i could..worst service ever. Me and my dad had been here over the years about 20 times and about 17 have been horrible.
The pediatric dept has absolutely no training when it comes to severe Autism in children. From the doctors right down to the nurses. They NEED to educate themselves on what Autism is and how it effects each child differently.
Another horrible experience at this location. People ahead of us waiting almost 10 hours. Expedite the process.
THE WORSE HOSPITAL EVER ...NEVER AGAIN!! I’ll TRAVEL TO THE CITY OF TORONTO FOR ALL HOSPITAL RELATED ISSUES DO NOT COME TO THIS HOSPITAL!!
Emergency room is a disaster, we were there from 11pm to 4pm but still not called in. Whenvever a nurse calls out names I find a few patients have left. The renovations make the waiting room clustrophobic. If you need emergency care please go elsewhere
WARNING!! If you do not want to be treated worst than an animal, do go to some other Hospital. If they were a business, they would be out of business by now. My wife was left to walk to the ct scan on her own, she is disabled and was treated like TRASH. She became very sick after being left alone with no way to call for help. When the nurse came to the room she treated her like dirt, she became very rude because my wife was not able to make it the toilet in time and had no container nearby to puke into. I am making it my personal mission to speak up on Social Media and other forums to warn the public of this below average care of Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Minus 1000% for this Hospital
Great service and attention to details during this family experience with the hospital.
Worst hospital ever period.
Worst place ive ever been they deserve a fat 0 this place should be closed down there is nothing good about this place. THEY NEED TO CLOSE THIS TRASH PLACE ITS A DEATH TRAP LETTING THESE ROOKIES WORK ON YOU
Have to sit 10 (TEN) hrs today in waiting on hard chair which caused severe back pain. Filled form for private or semi private or ward, but end up 2 days on emergency bed on way as rooms or bed not available or long waiting for admittion. Need bigger space and more specialists. available or on call.
This is about the emergency department. Apparently they are having staff shortage. I need to go to emergency at midnight and after more than 10 hours, all I can do was wait! So if you need urgent care, go somewhere else! No food no drink no bed during the wait, which made me more tired while I came here for emergency. If the problem was not serious, I would have slept at home and gone to a walk-in clinic, not going to emergency!
This Hospital is a always bad experience wait time is for hrs nurses show no compassion especially in the triage, you are treated like it is a business transactions .For all the taxes You are paying this is terrible service as a hospital in the GTA.
They made my 10 month old wait over 4 hrs. I wish there was a way to give them a zero rating
Wish I can leave a negative rating. Useless staff, incompetent.
Rating based on care at Labour and delivery ward. Majority of nurses were amazing and helpful. One nurse during my birth completely traumatized me, was rude, ignorant, disrespectful to my birthing partners and was clearly "running the show" did not have any of my wishes respected by this one nurse and I'm surprised with her bedside manner she is working in a labour and delivery ward. The mother is in charge of how she wants to birth and how it happens. This woman took that away from me and ruined what should have been a beautiful event. Overall experience was horrific and traumatic, especially for a very anxious and scared first time mother. I will never recommend this birthing ward mainly due to a few choice nurses and the absolute unprofessional conduct of them. Do your research before considering this hospital to delivery your baby. There is definitely some nurses in that ward that should NOT be working with mothers and babies.
Avoid. Always. This ER needs to be shutdown. I cannot say enough good things about Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.
Lots of complain from many people but staffs are doing their best to provide help to public.
-5 stars. If you are wondering why the wait is so long, it is because the people IN the waiting rooms are also waiting. Hallway health care? Theres no such thing as actual hospital healthcare. Dont come here... please... do not.
The ultrasound technicians are both rude, there's no booking number online and you wait forever and the have no patients waiting.
As a health care provider the emerg MD big guy, short hair, soft femanine voice, nike shoes, middle eastern background, should clearly not be a MD, he kept second guessing himself, could not provide a direct answer, and was in my opinion incompetent. Never mind the 5 hour wait for which "triage" put a kid whom was jumping around and singing before a much more urgent case, how do I know? Because i do it everyday. Dirty disgusting rooms for a hospital. Understaffed extreamly, just a terrible experience. Rouge in Scarb is actually much better which is surprising. I hope we never have to go back here again.
Absolutely the worst hospital I have ever been to and would not recommend ANYONE not even my worst enemy to this hospital. I would never go to this hospital ever again even though it is the closest one to my house. Due to the lack of communication, training and proper bedside manner of all of the hospital staff, nurses and doctors particularly in the ER, my father was close to being on his death bed with only hours to spare after sitting in the ER waiting room for 5 hours before even being properly assessed for what was initially thought to just be a severe asthma attack. He was then being held overnight to have a cat-scan that was supposed to be given the following morning but was actually done the next day late in the afternoon. Once the results of the cat-scan had come back it was only then the doctors and nurses in the ER started to panic and were rushing to give him an echocardiogram on his heart, frantically calling our family doctor and not telling him or my family not one goddamn thing. We were then told he was going to be transported via ambulance to Toronto General Hospital due to overcrowding. There was lack of communication and suddenly he was going to be taken via helicopter instead to St. Michael’s Hospital. We were never directly told what was going on until the helicopter landed at St. Mike’s where my parents were greeted by a Heart Surgeon that said he would have to preform emergency surgery with only a 30% chance of survival that if they didn’t preform within the next half hour he would be dead by tomorrow. My sister and I had to rush down from Ajax to downtown separately as we all couldn’t hold in the helicopter and were told all this information upon arrival at St. Mikes having only less than a minute to potentially say goodbye to him. It was the most traumatic and terrifying experience in our lives. I am happy to share that my father made it through the surgery after his month stay in both the ICU and general ward at St. Mike’s and is now at home recovering all thanks to St. Michael’s amazing hospital staff, nurses and Doctors. Especially the nurses and staff that cared for him in the Cardinal Carter wing, ICU and with special shout out to his amazing heart surgeon Dr. Yanagawa. They all took part in saving my father’s life and for that I am eternally grateful and forever in their debt. I cannot say the same for anyone at the Lakeridge Health hospital in Ajax as all they did was waste my Father’s time and nearly bringing him to the brink of death because they are so incompetent and careless. It is a true wonder how they are still open and functioning as a ‘hospital’. This experience is just one of many. Please refer to my review on Rate my MD for Dr. Igor Goussev on the experience we had with my great grandmother for more insight. Visit Lakeridge ‘Health’ Hospital at your own risk.
The labour and delivery and the post part , they are just awesome people, they took care of everything and this is the second time we are here for the second baby , I am really happy about the service, they check the baby every couple hours , super friendly, me and my wife very happy with the experience.
Went there because I was having ankle pain, I had to sit on a hard chair for about 4 hours. The hospital is a disgrace, they write the wait hours on a board, and the barf buckets are the size of a cereal bowl. And when they told me to wait to get cruches, they forgot and I had to get up and remind them, it was not even packed.
Worst Of The Worst One Last Time ( 5 months Ago ) had Been Waited more than 6 hours At Emergency ( Cause Guys Are Bussy With Timbits And Timmy Coffee ) That's,The Way !@@@@@@@@@@!!@@!!!????? So This Is,My Second Time Cause I have heavy pain and my right foot bottom of my foot colour changed to dark purple but still waiting l gave 2 more hours And Before I lost my right foot I have Transfer ST Michael Hospital At Down Town Toronto ;(((((
Yesterday I took my 5 year old to Emergency who was in alot of pain and irritable. He was not himself at all and was quite a handful. The staff was very kind and tried their best to help me and him. Giving his stickers, painting book, showing him Paw Patrol. I am posting this review to tell the staff there that I am thankful for all that you did for my little boy.
Worst hospital ever. Extremely rude nurses and staff. They will let ur patient die in waiting area. Terrible triage nurses.
Avoid going to this hospital. I went to this hospital twice in last one year. Both the times I return without seeing a doctor after waiting for 4 hours on both the times. You would be dying with pain but don’t expect any compassion from the triage nurses. Inhuman treatment from the heartless staff.
If I could rate ZERO stars I would. Many of the nurses who work in the Emergency department need serious empathy up training. I understand that it is a stressful job in an even more stressful environment but don’t choose a career caring for people if you don’t know how to treat people with compassion and respect.
Waited 7 hours for x-ray and seeing doctor. Very painful when your are sick. Staff and doctors are very slow and robotic.
Utter chaos and lack of organizational skills as well as incompetent staff landed my loved one in fatal condition. Do NOT go here for something serious. When time is of the essence - seek out the best medical care possible. This hospital has the capability of a walk in clinic and they do nothing to let the patient know of their condition especially in time sensitive matters. Thankfully they got my loved one to a better hospital and they were okay.
It's really a hit or miss with this place. Very inconsistent trying to find any professionals on site. Expect an extremely long wait for anything as service and courtesy is severely lacking... And compassion, as my 6 year old learned the hard way !!! They don't care how bad you're hurt or your age, everyone has to wait for poor and outrageously expensive health care. This place should be ashamed and embarrassed of themselves !
The nurses at this hospital are amazing, kind and very caring! Thank you for going above and beyond and being so wonderful!
Good they fix me because apparently you have to have 8 glass water a day not a year?
Based on day surgery and ICU despite the fact I was extremely sick and have never felt worse in my entire life. The nurses here were incredible. I was in day surgery for 11 hours because I came out of my procedure really sick. My nurse was so patient with me, she did not leave my side. She was so kind and did everything she could to make me comfortable. I could tell they had all had a long day but they did not take it out on us patients. I felt safe there. I was later on moved to the ICU where I spent 3 nights. Every single nurse I had was so pleasant and helped me out a lot. I was septic from an infection that another hospital... missed (despite me going back there twice) I was never treated like I was here for pain meds at ajax. I was treated based on my condition and how I told them I was feeling. These nurses work 12 hour shifts caring for people who are really sick and they do a great job holding it all together. I will return here whenever I need a procedure done and hopefully don’t have to come back to the icu. But thank you ajax icu and day surgery nurses. I noticed how hard you were all working and you all helped me get back home to my babies. I feel blessed because of you.
The emergency wing here is a zoo even by emergency wing standards. It's not the staff's fault, they're understaffed with multiple patients laying in the hallway. The WiFi is not that bad though.
I was at this hospital with my daughter what a poor service .... and stufff very rud ... i ask how long with be take and she rudly tell me I don't know how long will it takes and no service desk where you obtain info in EMG This what we everyone pay from there pay ..?? Stuff here is very rud they don't even talk to you if some one die they really dont care I hope some tak action against stuff and educate them how to talk , hospital staff need to understand when people sick they we come to hospital no one like to come hospital everyday just for fun ... so please hospital stuff undertsand this and pe polite with paitenet I hope managament take this very seriously Tirage ..also need to educate themself...tooo .
Our baby was delivered with lots of care and help nurses were nice and friendly. No issues at all.
All of my family members unfortunately have been to this hospital for various reasons and each one of them had a terrible experience. My brother had a work related accident where his fingers were chopped off and what they did was terrible. No aseptic techniques and they did not dress the wound properly. On top of that, when my brother had to go back to have the dressing changed, the nurse told him to remove his own dressing. My brother ended up going to another hospital because his fingers looked strange, and they were appalled by what they saw. They basically said that ajax pickering staff did not take care of the wound properly and that my brother could have had his hand amputated because of an infection! Second experience was also in the ER. My newborn was choking and actually stopped breathing for a bit at home and so we called an ambulance. Luckily she started to breathe when paramedics arrived. We decided to get her checked out in the hospital to be sure and the nurse basically was talking to the paramedic not very far away from me and asked him why we came by "ambulance taxi". She pretended I did not exist and took my baby's vitals and when my baby cried, she said in a condascending manner "oh life is so tough", and then walked away. She did not ask me questions, did not look at me, did not speak to me and continued to make rude remarks to the paramedic about me. Basically, this hospital appears to hire all the misfits who can't get a job elsewhere. They seem to hire the left overs who should not be taking care of humans or animals at all. Horrible staff, no compassion, they have no knowledge and basically avoid this place even if you are dying.
Been here since 3am. Still waiting for some answers and antibiotics. Useless.
You know it's sad when u have an appointment and the nurse is treating you like some different species today I went to the labour and delivery department for a scheduled appointment and this lady is literally talking to me like im some lower person than her ?? Like really....what do u even know about patients that come in and their background ? I'm shook that she even has a job in a public place in Canada. Really. That behaviour can never be tolerated in this day and age . So disrespectful....and they say they are all about striving for patient care and respect....yaaaaaaa right!
Worst hospital ever....waiting time is never ending...we just spent a whole night sitting here with a baby waiting for the doctor .Better to go to any of the scarborough hospitals
I gave birth to my daughter here last week. So my experience is only with the labour and birthing departments. The nurses are absolutely fantastic!! Very helpful, never make you feel like you are bothering them, always answering any questions. I never had a moment of wondering if our care was adequate or not - definitely was!! Loved my experience there.
The fracture clinic in particular is horrible. Terrible service. Front desk woman is ridiculously rude. You’re never in on time as you can never get a hold of them. I left a message for 3 days and they never got back to me. Go to Oshawa.
If I could give 0 stars I would. My mom came here to the emergency department at 5am. She did not come out until 12pm... She was in extreme pain in her lower abdomen and was struggling to walk so I asked if she could have a wheelchair and I was told by the lady at the front that she would be wheeled into the waiting room. Covid precautions meant I was not allowed inside and that was understandable but I watched as they wheeled my mom in and left her and a nurse made my mom get up off the wheelchair and walk to her inside the room. Despite my mom saying she was in pain and could not get up... the nurse literally didn't care. They took around 5/6 hours to do a blood test and then told my mom to wait for the ultrasound. She's a diabetic patient that was waiting for that long and the nurses were so rude my mom told them she felt lightheaded and needed to eat something they said she was not allowed right now and that they would keep an eye on her. Um for what? until she fainted and THEN would they stop being so rude and come help her? No one would answer any of her questions the waiting room was empty only one other patient yet it still was taking them so long. They werent letting her step out to the entrance and have a drink or a quick snack like I said she is diabetic she needs to eat something and that's ridiculous that she was not allowed. The nurses were not taking her pain seriously and kept ignoring my mom whenever they were walking by and were having their own little conversations in the corner. So what the hell was taking so long? I've never seen such bad service and treatment of patients in the end they took SO long for the ultrasound my mom could not take it and asked to go home which they also gave her so much attitude about, like do you guys not realize shes leaving because of how slow you are? they weren't even being understanding about how long she was waiting they just gave her attitude for wanting to leave. If you look at other reviews rhey are all the same if you're having an emergency and can drive a little longer please go to Markham Stoufville you're going to get way better treatment and get checked out way faster. Never ever coming here again and so disappointed and angry at this hospital.
Had good experience when ever we have been there. My son was born here and service was very good.
I was in the hospital with my one year old baby boy. The nurse was very rude and the doctor never took anything and serious. I don’t understand the meaning of emergency, doctors and nurses.
I took my son for emergencies and I had to wait several hours to go to triage, when after two hours of waiting I asked how much longer I had to wait, an unkind nurse told me that they were too busy that I had to keep waiting. Such a big hospital and she was just doing the triage. Terrible service and attention. I do not recommend it.
Worst hospital ever with the rudest of the nurses and staff and the ER doctors ARE SUPER USELESS
Staff lack communication skills. Strongly suggest a restructure for the hospital and rebrand.
This hospital left my daughter in DKA for hours prior to doing blood work. They dont have enough space for pateints beds and pateints everywhere.
The wait times, no matter where you are in the hospital, absolutely horrible.
The emergency waiting room takes so long, you could die waiting. Never coming here again, that is if I make it.
I'm not healthy. We dont quite know what is wrong. So my family doctor orders two MRI's for me, and schedule's them to be done at Ajax hospital. Upon speaking to the receptionist on the phone during the booking she advised me that it was mandatory to remove any/all metal on my body or they wouldnt be able to do the MRI. I have a piercing in a private area that I tried and tried to remove. I even went to a tattoo parlor to have it removed, they wanted to acharge me $50 to remove it. I am on ODSP, I do not have $50 extra to spare. So, I go to the appointment (which for the record I have been waiting for for 3 months). I go early (appt was set for 6:30am). Figuring, the doctors there will remove it for me. I mean, in an emergency situation, when a patient is unconscious do the doctors not remove a piercing if an MRI is necessary??? Well folks, no I guess at Ajax Hospital they turn that patient away and send them back home in the ambulance... Cause that's what they just sid to me! I have never been so upset and felt so defeated in my entire life! What am I supposed to do???
You must have an advocate on the outside in order for the patient to receive proper care here. The patient is treated as invisible. The advocate can speak for them and make them visible to the staff so appropriate care is administered.
Absolute horrible experience. Waited for more than 3 (Entered roughly around just past 7pm) hours to get my daughter checked and finally had to leave as there was no clarity on what was happening. I understand that the priority right now is for COVID related issues but there has to be some consideration for patients that are walking into ER. I now understand why the rating is so bad of this hospital and urgent change is required. Will try and avoid going there in the future.
That person at the COVID screening desk at Ajax-Pickering hospital (west entrance) should not be working there. She was extremely rude with patients and threatened with calling the security. She was put there to take care of patient's safety and to follow COVID protocols and run pre-screening, but instead she tried to grab my personal phone with her hands instead of scanning the QR code from a distance. What kind of COVID protocol is that when a person touches hundreds of phones per day and increases chances of virus transmission from one person's phone to another? When I rejected to give my personal phone into her hand she started escalating the conflict and threatening with security. Is this the hospital's official policy to actually demand and touch patient's personal belongings (phones) in order to permit access to hospital premises? The tone she communicated to a patient was rude and disrespectful. This person refused to call her supervisor and even refused to provide hospital's contact number to call and leave a complaint. She definitely requires some additional training on conflict de-escalation.
Went to this hospital with abdominal pain, after a brief check up from the physician he said he wanted me to have an ultrasound. While waiting for the appointment to be booked by a nurse, two additional patients who also had abdomen pain saw the same doctor and received their ultrasound appointment shortly after seeing the physician. I notified the nurse twice that I was waiting for the ultrasound appointment. Twice she said “oh go sit in the waiting room someone will be there with your appointment.” After an hour and watching two patience who came AFTER me I asked the nurse one last time about the appointment. She redirected me back to the waiting, I just kept walking and walked right out the hospital. It’s been a week and still suffering. This will be the last time I go to this hospital. Btw, the wait time was already 5 hrs when I had arrived.
If I could post 0 stars. I arrived to the ED at 0200, with pain a9/10 and I have a high tolerance for pain but I was in tears. I sat in the front waiting room for 2 hours before going to sit in another waiting room for 3 more hours. I received no type of pain relief. After 6 hours I got some Tylenol which didn’t even take the edge off only to be told I needed to continue to sit in the hard uncomfortable chairs for another 4+ hours to wait for a CT scan which they apparently don’t run over night. This was the worst hospital I have ever been to. I would have much rather stayed home and been in the same pain at my house in my bed.
One of the most impersonal emergency departments I have ever been in. There is no hospital staff to be seen, they announce that someone will see to you through a speaker and mirrored glass. To get to This opportunity to be heard you must line up bleeding, in pain or Dyeing while you read a sign that says approximate wait 5 1/2 hours. This is emergency service. Ok I get it, this is social health care, but does it have to be this bad?
I was at Lakeridge Ajax Pickering Hospital for my delivery on November 13th. The whole process from registration to labour room to post pregnancy care and discharge was smooth and staff there are so friendly. I would like to mention nurses that took care of me, first it was Ms.Daniella and then for labour and delivery Ms.Kathy and Ms.Osas. Ms.Kathy was an experienced nurse and was so calm and ready to answer our 1000 questions. Thank you so much, at last but not the least Dr.Rubabaza, gynecologist. If it was not Dr. Rubabaza then I don't think I would have a vaginal birth. Excellent team ????, May God bless everyone and stay healthy and safe.
I had an emergency room visit and then at our follow up appointment was admitted for two nights due to my baby being sick this week. The nursing staff on the child health unit were excellent, along with the student nurses. Everyone was careful to be quiet when my baby was sleeping, even though they still had to do their routine checks. The student nurses would often check in to see if we needed anything and Dr. Aref was nice and competent.
My aunt stayed in Ajax hospital for 3 weeks due to gallbladder infection. The nurses in 2 east were amazing, kind and caring. Despite my aunt's poor English the nurses were able to communicate with her very well. ????
This is by far the slowest hospital I have ever been to my entire life. I have never in my life waited over 4 hours in a hospital and this hospital beat that record. Note: This hospital is not overcrowded at all its just EXTREMELY slow
The absolute worst hopsital I have been to. Nurses and doctors at this ER gives everyone who work in a hospital a very bad name. Knock on wood, I will never go back and to anyone that values their health should avoid this hospital. Zero sympathy.
We had our first child here. The nurses and doctors and overall service was exceptional. Nurse Khadijah and Nurse Stephanie in particular in the birth ward.
I brought my 5 months old daughter and left after four hours without seeing a doctor. I do not understand how they prioritize tasks. I thought new borns are most sensitive and should be taken with most urgency. Not coming back here for any emergencies…
Nurses are very good They really care for the patients
Outrageous wait times, wish there was a negative rating too.
This hospital needs more staff, less wait times, MDs who actually know what they are talking about. They tried to give me Tylenol for pneumonia. The wait times are super ridiculous... 6hours and I'm just getting to the second waiting room. The emergency department is a joke. Triage nurses act like you pissed in their coffee. Bottom line one of the worst hospitals in the GTA.
Really long wait times in the emergency. Little to no order when it comes to priority patients. Staff are mostly friendly, but they don't seem to care if you're waiting long regardless of the issue.
I was in the hospital at Dec 24 2020 ,2:15 am.It’s better to die than come to ER Ajax hospital .I Spent 10 hrs and left the hospital on my request even the doctor asked me to stay and do cat scan , because I can’t tolerate the way nurses treat me as patient with severe pain and let me sit on the uncomfortable chairs all these hrs, even I ask a cup of water and they refuse to give me. Nurse so rude and use annoyed and facial language and not polite , words can’t express how I was sick and their attitude and unprofessional team make me felt worse . and when I saw the doctor and he told me he will back in few min with the prescription, the nurse came to the room and asked me to leave and go home , I told her, no I am waiting for the doctor, so she decided by herself to send me home without any communication with the doctor. The nurse has no name tag and when I ask another nurse about her name , she refuse to give her name . Also I saw a nurse yelling on old man (( YOU HAVE TO WAIT THIS IS NOT DRIVE THROUGH ))
Condescending rude intolerable receptionist
Very bad experience with this hospital. Nurses are rude, it's a total mess in this hospital.
My wife broke her knee on June 13 and the put her in cast. After 9 week of being in a cast they removed it she started therapy but could not bend knee so back to see this doctor Fayed so she had a mri and surgery on Sept 30/21 to bend her knee Started therapy again but not change cannot bend knee This ridiculous how she is been treated Very disappointed with this hospital
NEVER AGAIN!!!! Waited There for 5 hours(shortest I’ve ever experienced here, it’s usually 8 hr wait minimum) had high fever and chills, extreme swollen glands. I was asked multiple times that day what my allergies were, and I told them. Long story short Doctor prescribed me medication I’m ALLERGIC TO. I could die if I take this! I had to go back to the hospital THE SAME DAY which is inconvenient for me I don’t even drive. They basically tell me to go f myself they cannot help me and to check in all over again. If I’m ever ill or injured I’ll be sure to avoid this place the way they avoid me! :)
I went in pregnant with my twins having major back pain. The nurse told me to go home and have a bath. She said sciatic pain happens on pregnancy. I was also on a wheelchair couldn't walk. I overheard her telling the other nurse who comes with there own wheelchair. Apparently I had 2 slip disc pressing on my sciatic nerve. Couldn't walk. Very unprofessional.
YOU WILL DIE HERE !!!! DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL this hospital straight up does not care about your health or well-being. doctors and staff are rude and have no urgency to help you or address your questions and/or concerns. Dr. Igor Goussev has NO manners. spoke over me. insulted me. and rushed me out of his office as i asked questions before he was supposed to perform a small incision on me. I get your a doctor, but you dont need to be condescending and rude.. you just dont. i will NEVER come back here. refer this hospital and or doctor.
Zero stars if they had an option!!!Worst hospital ever. 30 people in emergency and they call 3 people ever hour. Waste of time and money. RIDICULOUS!! Either they are way understaffed or lazy!!!!!! Never come here unless you want to wait forever.
Took forever to get a ultra sound on my wife. Tech's were more interested in talking about Thier tinder dates
Triage = DANGER!! RUNN AWAY!! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
Worse experience ever had.I have option to give zero starts then I will....
What an absolutely terrible hospital. Sister was passed out on the dirty filthy floor which they never clean apperently and the rude nurse came and yanked on her arm telling her to stand up when she was clearly unconscious. Then the nurse thought it would be a good idea to make racist and discriminatory remarks about our ethnic and religious background. Absolutely terrible staff who lack patience and empathy. We will never be coming here again.
ER takes forever and poor patient communication. Limited parking on site.
So dissapointed.. Some of the staff were very friendly.. but I have gotten better care from hospitals in the cracks of poverty in Toronto. Smh
The care I received on a recent Day Surgery visit was outstanding! From the Nurses, Support Staff and especially Dr. Xeroulis I was kept well informed and comfortable. Considering that they are performing during a COVID-19 pandemic....if there were 6 stars I would give them!
Imagine not wanting to call 911 for an emergency because it will land you here, how messed up is that? Majority of the nurses here you can tell hate their job. It’s not fair that people get mistreated so often at this hospital. I do have respect for nurses and doctors and I do understand we are in a pandemic and ER is crazy busy, but people do have other emergencies which can be life threatening. I will add that in isolation-- these nurses actually care, in the ER, not so much. I would honestly recommend that anyone who is driving to this hospital make a u-turn. You are better off going Markham Stoufville which is 20 ish mins from Ajax or even Scarborough but won’t have you waiting 8-10 hours before getting something done and will have nurses and doctors who are so nice and actually care or any other hospital.
The staff at the fracture clinic are amazing!
I know healthcare is a polarizing subject and nobody likes waiting in a hospital for hours, especially in the middle of a pandemic, but as new parents with a sick infant, we were so happy with our experience visiting the emergency room on a Sunday morning. All the staff we met were lovely, especially the triage nurse and the doctor, who really took the time to help us feel informed. We were in and out in 2.5 hours, feeling much better and knowing there are wonderful health professionals in Pickering.
Their ED saved my daughter's life. Went in by ambulance with an Spo2 of 50% in acute respratory distress. They were quick to intubate, keep her comfortable and sedated, wasted no time slamming IV antibiotics into her, and stabilized her for transport to SickKids where she had made a full recovery just from weaning whatever therapies were initiated. Never in a million years did I imagine I'd ever witness a code being run on my own child, but their team knew exactly what they were doing and it provided so much assurance during a traumatic time. They even let me hold her hand the whole time. I just can't find the words to fully express how grateful I am for these people being there for us that day, and how thankful I am to have my daughter back to her normal self.
It should never take over 8 hours for someone to be seen. Not pleased with this hospital.
Nurses was nice it was worth the visit there
Waiting time wasn't too long and the nurses were very nice!
Great staff
Sorry for this Super-Late Review about my experience at Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering Hospital... I'm giving 5 out of 5 stars because of my latest medical procedure back on February 23, 2018. It was a brain MRI and I just find Magnetic Resonance Imaging very incredible and have an interest for them! This was my second MRI (first one was at the Oshawa site in the original Philips 1.5T MRI [Gyroscan series? Please let me know what it was exactly ????] from 1997 back on December 27, 2008! Since my first MRI, I started to have more interest in them! Most favourite thing about MRI is the Noises generated by the three gradient coils! Although they can be loud at times! But with earplugs and headphones, it makes a huge difference from the sound pressure levels generated by the gradient coils and makes it more preventable from temporary hearing loss. Especially at 3T, the sound pressure levels are usually louder than the 1.5T MRI machines. Especially during the Diffusion Sequence (Diffusion Tensor Imaging or Diffusion Weighted Imaging depending what the brand calls it) which is a series of loud beeping-like sounds and big thumps from the gradient coils! The Siemens Magnetom Skyra at the Ajax-Pickering site is one if the most high-tech 3T MRI Systems on the MRI market (according from what I have heard)! Now onto the experience... My MRI exam was for 7:00am or 7:30am that morning when I got into the bore of the machine. Before that, I had to go to the reception desk in the MRI department and the receptionist was very polite! Like always for everyone, MRI safety must be taken very seriously! So I had to fill out a form, check. Get into hospital clothing, check. Get my weight and height measured, check (the receptionist/nurse said I had a muscular build in my arms and upper body! Thanks to 10-pin bowling and reeling in big fish for so many years!) Now I went to the preparation room where the MRI Suite takes place after. The MRI technologist was a very nice man! He was very detailed in explanation (how long the MRI exam will take, etc) and of course as a procedure before an MRI exam... he asked me if I was claustrophobic. I'm not at all! ???? He even asked me if I wanted to listen to music but I replied "no thanks, I just want to hear the sounds from the machine!" So, he places me in the right spot inside the bore for my Brain! The Brain Coil had a mirror so I can see outside the bore and the MRI tech and know what's taking place and what'll happen next. Simply, be aware of my surroundings. ???? He said the scan will take approximately 25 minutes. But in my perspective it felt faster than that! I could care less about that since I have an interest in MRI! To me... the sound pressure levels with the two sources of hearing protection was loud as (this is I would explain it) listening to music at a reasonable volume with headphones. An MRI Machine with a 3T magnetic field without the "Silence Package" (a state-of-the-art MRI technology) can reach sound levels of up to 115-120db! I think the loudest sequence(s) are DTI and EPI (EPI is mostly used for fMRI [Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and yes they are loud and one of the three gradient coils (the one below my back) pounding against the bore feels like you're getting a back massage from the machine! Literally! ???? That's why hearing protection is extremely important and when it comes to safety for MRI... safety must be taken very seriously! Back to the MRI exam... It was very comfortable and the noises which I have a crave for, were very satisfying! The MRI Tech was very quick and detailed! It felt like it took less than 20 minutes for the Brain MRI Examination! Overall... it was a 5 out of 5 stars experience! Thanks for the great experience and I hope any of you that work or volunteer at Lakeridge Health in the MRI department read this... Two thumbs way up! ???? Thanks all!
Too many issues to list. Nurses were terrible human beings, let alone nurses. If you're very sick or injured, you're better off dying than visiting this dump.????
As a pregneant woman, being told to come to Emergency by telehealth and waiting for over 4 hours to be brought back to wait again to be seen by a doctor is very upsetting. Especially when the whole waiting room can see the you are pregnant and how much pain you are in. Peopel who came in after me were seen before the pregnancy woman. The only time I have had a good experience in this hospital was when it was empty.
I try to avoid this hospital. I know too many people who were sent home, only to be readmitted to another hospital. I was sent home without seeing a doctor and later that day had to have a pacemaker and difibulator installed in my chest at another hospital.
Staff here are fantastic. Doctors and especially nurses are thoughtful and caring. My 2 surgeries were done in this hospital in past 2 years ago, doctors and nurses are attentive and professional. Although it is a small hospital, the most helpful place when compare with other hospitals in Scarborough.
Most of the negative reviews about the ER is accurate- this has to be one of the worst around. Staff could probably do with some people skills training and a better system for triaging patients. You literally have to scoot up two rows of chairs before you are triaged.
100% better than lakeridge in oshawa. You have a better chance at survival here or any other health issue. Even if theres bad things here. 100% better than oshawa hospital
I've had wonderful care both times I've come here. It's been fast and the staff is so nice. Update: was brought back for a follow up and saw some of what the other reviews complain about. Guess it's luck of the draw.
The worst emergency experience ever! I waited 7 hours and counting to see the doctor! How is that even possible in a first world country? I’m disgusted and will call the ombudsman after I get out of here.If you are having a medical emergency, do not come here. Drive past and go somewhere else, anywhere else.
The worst hospital ever the doctors are very bad they are just passing their time one their phones and doing nothing. Very bad experience. Never go to this hospital. Especially in emergency. More than 4 hours waiting even for very emergency situation
by far the worst hospital I've been to. ER staff, especially the psych triage nurses are rude and dismissive. I took myself to the ER a few years ago because I was worried I would hurt myself, and then ended up involuntarily committed for some reason, even though I was there... voluntarily... to get help... but that's the least of my concerns. for the past ~5 years Dr. Thanganroopan has been employed as a psychiatrist here. he is cruel and dismissive to his patients - a quick google search will show the myriads of complaints he's received. he took me off of a medication I had been on for years without tapering me, which is standard procedure to prevent withdrawal symptoms. after two days of trying to tough it out, I caved and started taking my meds again. next time I saw him, he re-prescribed me the same meds, but as an XR rather than the regular release pills that I had been taking before. they were never quite as effective and eventually I ended up going off of them safely, under the supervision of another doctor. the kicker? I was later told that he "didn't like" people in my age group (I was ~22). I have absolutely no idea why they continue to employ him here. I will say this: I've been seeing Dr. Khitab here for about 6 months now and he's fantastic. but that's all this place has going for them, and if you have a choice I would highly, *highly* recommend avoiding this place, especially if you're having a mental health crisis.
Since this hospital switched from the Rouge Valley administration to Lakeridge, the emergency wait times have nearly doubled. Shame on the crappy turnover.
Wait time can be truly gruesome, it can make you really sick and endless hour experience in the emergency . Espcially if you happen to come evening or midnight, bring in your sleeping bag. I dont know why this such a degree of care . Youre in the emergency walk-in and hoping for immediate attention. Its like youre in a third world country looking for help.
I'm about to have my second baby here in a few months. I've never had a problem. Everyone is very nice and helpful.
I just went in the emergency room and after 20 min waiting in triage I have asked what is the waiting time, and they told me at least 8 hrs, the hospital is very messy. Waste of our money. Need better organization, stay away from this horrible place do not lose your time .If I could give 0 star I would.
It's my request to government please take important steps to improve this hospital management and staff quality. Many times I had to go there because I am durham resident and it's near to my house. But I always become so disappointed from their work, this time they I decided to share here their irresponsibility towards patients. I had ankle fracture last week, doctor came into seeee after many hours, and told me that I had minor ankle fracture and gave me a air cast walker boot. Before going when I was asking about the instructions I should be careful, but their response was so dull, when I came back after 1 day the boot started to hurt my other bones of my injured foot and I was in so much pain in every moment, the whole week I suffered and the pain became so worsen and I was taking high dose pain killer as per doctor's prescription, I was feeling that the pain was not from injury and I guessed that it was because they gave me a wrong side boot that I was also not sure. At last after 1 week I had an appointment in the fracture clinic when I went their and discussed this thing they send me to the fracture technician who saw my boot and said , " sorry they gave you a wrong boot". I mean what, I shocked that my doubt was correct , can you imagine how painful it was the whole week, I couldn't sleep and was taking high dose painkiller to stop that pain.i was so cranky and upset , my kids were also very sad to see my condition . what if it damaged my foot more and I come on the wheel chair only because of that irresponsible and negligent behavior, what kind of doctors are they appointing who dont care and don't take serious patients injuries or health? I mean I dont understand How they can take it so light and even not giving proper time and attention to their patients?
Have never had a good experience here. Lakeridge health is a terrible organization and should be shut down immediately
Boyfriend went in with chest pain. They took all precautions and made him stay overnight just in case it was something worse. The doctors were polite and the nurses taking care of him were awesome. The wait times weren't too bad either. He was pleased with his experience at the hospital.
Dr. Chuang has struck again. A friend visiting our home from Toronto had to be transported by ambulance and Dr. Chuang attended to her. Lots of drugs, no real diagnosis (she still can't walk), and a cold uncaring boot out the door. I really hope that the new and improved, merged hospital, considers their emergency or trauma doctors very carefully. It is frightening to be sick or injured and have to go to a hospital. A kind word, the feeling that this doctor cares about human beings, and a little explanation goes a long way. If that approach doesn't move someone like Dr. Chuang, I ask her to consider this. How would you treat someone whose life puts food on your table...because it does. Kindness is everything!
Emergency walk in needs improvement, you walk in, when its busy the person who is next see's the nurse first, second, you wait 3 hours. It was full of people when i first arrived, people didnt know who was next. Could have been better.
Staff do not know how to respond/ communicate with other departments. Get used to hearing "I don't know" from the staff. I had numerous problems during my operation/ stay: - Staff could not tell me if they will bill private room charges to my MC or insurance, did not even know how to find out, they just know how to fill in forms - Did not have any private or semi-private rooms available, my husband had to fight with staff to get me a room, they kept me in post-operation area for 4hrs. - private and semi-private rooms have no wifi, and basic cable is $10/day, ridiculously - Staff kept tried to make my private room into semi-private room, telling me they have no empty rooms and had to bring a patient in. While in fact 3 rooms were empty, they do not know what they are doing. My husband talked it out with the staff, and I got to keep my room. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, STAY AWAY
A very good community hospital. Great when you need it.
Worse experience ever went in for chest pains 5 hours later seen by doctor
Many details to share. But end of the day. You guys make people suffer. Especially kids. Educate your stupid triage nurse.
Small but very carering maternity ward nursing staff Clean and tidy hospital But rooms looked a bit aged
There's alot of attitude
I don't know where to begin with this place. Multiple regretted trips to this emergency room have led me to FINALLY leave this review. After being seen in the ER my issue unresolved, and dealt with in a very poor fashion I immediately redirected myself to another hospital and was treated much better. I am DONE with Ajax hospital they will literally send you home to die (speaking from experience with a prior situation with a loved one).
Don't bring infants to their emergency. Terrible. Go to sick kids downtown.
I dont why so much negative review maybe waiting time . But wait time was treated with care and respect people are nice acted with profession.
Title: Nurse at Emergency: I didn't invite you here. My son was having high fever (39.4), and was not coming down with Advil when it was measured 30 min after. So we took him to emergency at 3 am, and emerg was empty , the nurse took us in triage and measured temperature from armpit, said he is fine, it shows 37, but my wife checked with our Braun thermometer that hsi temperature is high, btu she said that can be wrong. We waited 1 hour and nurse changed in between inside triage and she was supposed to check his temperature after 30 min. upon asking this she was saying his temperature is fine, no need to recheck. Then we asked why would we come here if he is normal, his body was still so hot, that time she was telling us "i didn't invite you here", then i had to raise my voice and then they called us in and doctor was good person, he checks hsi temperature and see that it has come down to 38.4. Even if there is no patients, they are rude to people and make them wait long hours. they are thinking all people coming to emerg are coming simply to disturb them, and the treatment we get from there is free, and its like nurses bringing from their home and giving us. Its our community hospital and its our tax money feeding you.
Don't bring your baby here. This place is terrible. We brought our 1 month son here because he was experiencing a fever and we still waited over 1 an hour to be seen. They provided no proper treatment. Upon arriving home our son experienced a higher fever and we went directly to sick kids instead. The difference is night and day. 2 hours of parking at Rouge Valley = $16 6 hours Parking from midnight or earlier to 8 am at sick kids downtown = $6 dollars Avoid this place if you have an infant. The wait time in general is almost a death sentence for anyone.
very long wait times at hospital
I went to Emergency at Lakeridge Health via ambulance and was admitted for 3 days. I had an asthma attack. I was thoroughly impressed with the care I was given. The entire experience was good. They were extremely thorough and everything was as pleasant as could be, considering the environment. The nurses in emergency were very kind. I was given follow-up appointments and I can say the staff (especially Dr. Pushpapalan) were very professional. I recently moved to Durham and my family doctor is in another city. I was given referrals for everyone I needed to see (Respirologists. etc). The Pulmonary Function Testing is in a building right across the street! The lady who does the breathing is fabulous as well (I can't recall her name). Overall, after a 3 day stay, this may sum it up: I left one of the nurses (Autumn) a note thanking her for her kindness and caring for me while I was there.
My husband and I went to the Ajax hospital he was complaining of chest pains and a few other symptoms.. The wait time when we walked in was 3 to 4 hours and so we decided to wait and we checked again and it jumped from 4 to 5 hours and then 5 to 6 hours and we checked an hour later it was 6 to 7 hours.. omg such BS! Yes it was Sunday around 4:30pm by the time we walked out of there it was 7:30pm and we were no closer .. we walked out
When I was new to the area, they took excellent care of me!! I couldn't thank them enough, amazing and so very welcoming!!
1)nurse is rude. 2) service getting worse. 3)stuff needs training. 4)longest wait time. 5) shortage of doctor. 6) emergency is just show off. 7) limited space , needs to accommodate more when needed. ……… Hospital management or , whoever related running operations of this hospital , should be doing better job or else step down (sorry to be very rude).thank you ????
While I was I vomitting and passing out they couldn't prepare a room for 10 hours and instead put in IV in sub waiting room and Doctor discuss my personal information and illness in front of other noisy patients!! Extremely dirty and rude stuff
This is the WORST hospital ever. Poor service, horrible maintenance, unnecessary wait time, and there is no communication between staff regarding patient’s update. All they do is shoot patient from one hall to another hall. Extremely unexceptional experience.
I moved in this area a couple of months ago. So far the overall score for this hospital is pretty high in my book, probably mostly because of the experience with the emergency intake doctor and the staff in the ultrasound department. The emergency wait was a long frustrating one, 5 hours, but then I've had longer waits in other hospitals in Toronto. The seating area is very uncomfortable, would be good if they redo that area and provide more comfortable seating for those who are not feeling well. Also for your convenience you may ask the intake nurse what is your score, meaning how acute your situation is - this is from their perspective as from ours, every pain is acute from personal perspective of course - but say if you are not in danger of dying and can wait 5...6.. hours maybe you want to consider going to a walk in clinic, you can call ahead and ask about the wait time. I had no choice but to wait because I knew I needed imaging that only the hospital has. However once I was in I felt taken care of adequately by the emerg doctor and he also lined up the tests in a very efficient manner, after I come home the next day I was called by the programming and they set up scans; also when I arrived at the scan the technologist took the initiative to do more scans - which in Toronto would have required another appointment and wasted day.
Lack of professionalism...long waiting..some are rude
Great experience. Sorry to see only "unhappy" people posting here. So do not trust this "reviews".
I check in and no one comes to claim me, I'm the only one waiting in the admitting office. Wait for 20+ minutes. Eventually the lovely secretary (?) goes into the nurses area to tell them I'm still waiting, a nurse comes out immediately - indicating to me they weren't busy just unprofessional and felt like they could make me wait. I normally wait longer at my family doctor and while it's annoying I get it - you can get backed up. But I'm seeing a specialist for an extremely rare problem that I seriously doubt he has people lining up to see him for. Why can't doctors keep appointments?
There should be a way to give negative 5 star. I am a healthcare worker. Based on my experience in ER, this is a GARBAGE place. No coordination among doctors and triage department. Customer service is BIG ZERO. Nurses are rude. As if, they come to work eating Bitter Melon.
This is a fake hospital. 5 hours in emergency room without seeing a doctor with only five people ahead of me. Do they even have doctors? There is no dignity to this entire process. After 5 hours of waiting is when they decided to run some tests...which they said would take another 4 hours. Forget this. There are hospitals in third world countries that provide better care than this hospital. Avoid at all costs. There's a reason this hospital has 2 stars on Google Maps.
I had a couple MRIs done here and had a wonderful experience, but if you can avoid it don't go to their emergency room. My brother cut his hand and the doctor did such an awful job with the staples that they left a bigger scar than the actual cut.
Worst hospital. There is no value for emergency. Wait time is 5 to 6 hours at emergency? Unbelievable.
ER dr seemed annoyed with me when he found out I didn't want to make a WSIB claim (I guess he had a already started the paperwork). Told me that I indicated to the intake nurse that I wanted to, which was incorrect. I had told her I did not want to and she made it sound like I didn't have an option. Made to feel a little belittled during the visit about not knowing how severe my signs of concussion were as I've never had one before and just wanted to ease anxiety by getting looked at.
I was suffering from serious Vertigo...They ask me to leave the hospital very rudely and told me to consult with a specialist...
staff were very accommodating
The staff are always so awesome and full of patience. The ambulatory clinic works like a fine tuned machine. Dr. Egbewunmi is a gem. Thanks always Dr. E for being kind and making life make sense.
Terrible staff (a few nice nurses). On two occasions the doctors have diagnosed me incorrectly. The nurses that checked me in were disgustingly rude. There was this one African American nurse with glasses that told me to stop asking questions...i was in so much pain. I felt like an animal... This hospital makes me cry everytime...i feel so unsure getting diagnosed there.
On Wednesday February 3, 2021, I had a colonoscopy procedure. Everyone I met at the hospital were so polite, kind, and very efficient. All of the doctors, nurses, explained in detail what the procedure entailed. They also made sure I was comfortable all the way through. Thanks again to all that helped me. This hospital is the best !!!!!
The star is for thr LND wing and the doc who recognized my infection and actually took me seriously. Amazing, PROMPT, helpful and caring. The womens health maternity recovery ward not so much 0 if I could give it. Understaffed and FULL of attitude, clucking, complaining and gossiping like hens in a coup. I was induced 18 hours after 4 hours outpatient only to have emergency c s after all of it. Then 2 nights stay. No offer to help for a bath- was attached to BP, o2sat, cath bag, IV the entire stay I was there. In fact a soiled linen station stood in my shower stall. Their advice for aftercare of a c section incision was to pat with a clean towel and let it air dry, dont put anything in or on it. 2 days and *kick out the door you go. Needless to say I had high fever that broke 3 times in 4 days shortly after I got home and it got infected so badly I needed 2 different courses of antibiotics to heal. Had to use the ER 3 times in the 4 weeks after giving birth. Long waits +3 hours each time. The nurses in triage have no emotion but the nurses and docs inside were decent. The 2nd ER trip I made/2nd doc I saw finally took my wound seriously--cut open the sutures, packed it immediately, swabbed for culture and referred me for in home nursing care to keep the incision cared for so dressings could change properly daily. If only all the staff cared for me the same....smh.
In Hospital Emergency, Surgery and 6wk stay not really bad at all fantastic surgeon and surgery. However was supposed to have Social Worker helping find suitable place upon discharge as there was strict orders non -weivht bearing left leg as they removed my hip and left nothing in to replace it.No physio set up Social Worker kept saying not to worry everything will be in place for discharge i am officially sitting in the pouring rain in downtown Oshawa with no home was told i',d have personal wheel chair and i don't i'm using hospital one I am not self sufficient all this was discussed with the Socil Worker prior to being discharged today and i was continuously reassured not to worry .Yeah right who wants to live like this....not me Thanks for nothing Rayne my sister did more looking and checking than you did and you got paid to send me in a cab to a shelter which i can't take care of myself in.
I wish I could give this hospital a 0 star! Worst ER experience ever! Their wait times are crazy (8hrs). On top of it they want to do the test but make us wait crazy hours. I feel the purpose it’s called er is because they offer speedy and efficient service to their patients. Neither is this place speedy nor efficient. I feel the triage needs to be better done to assess patients. I am writing this review while waiting for my doctor to see me. Please be ware and never ever come end up in this hospital ! I am very sure their care is also equally sub standard !
Worst worst worst ER the waiting time is beyond crazy. And I dont understand why do they need to know about the religion what is that have to do with the treatment.
Would give this location zero stars if i could. Horrible nurses, doctors don't know what they are doing. No cleanliness, disgusting labor and delivery rooms.
Nurses are rude and arrogant in ER. My fiancé asked the nurse on duty in ER (B1) on August 13, 2018 night shift, to help him adjust my father in law's bed because he is uncomfortable, as my fiancé doesn't know how to adjust the bed. The nurse replied to him in a very rude way that he could do it himself. This is just one of the many bad experiences we had with this hospital's department. ER staffs needs training with patient care or be replace with more competent and professional nurses. Very poor quality patient care.
The absolute worst hospital. I took my 17 month old son here to have him checked out. He was experiencing high fever for 4 days. And started to get red eyes, palms, feet and a huge rash over his diaper area. On the first day he got a high fever, he was not acting himself and sleeping all the time. We went to the walk in and they told us it was an ear infection. On the 4th day when then symptoms werent changing only getting worse, I went to the Ajax hospital since it was close to home. This was the ultimate mistake. We waited in line for an hour for registration, then to go to the "waiting room" for an hour and a half, then to a room for another 45 mins. The doctor (Tenakka) basically called me stupid for not using a thermometer, acted super rude and sarcastic and just said to continue treating the ear infection even though he said things with the red symptoms were strange. So he misdiagnosed him again basically. The next day I went to Lakeridge hospital in Oshawa. He was checked into the hospital within 10 minutes and diagnosed with Kawasaki disease. This is the second time Ajax hospital did this. They misdiagnosed my mother as well. It's so despicable when doctors and nurses don't give a care to the world about patients.
Absolutely the worst hospital experience! My father had a head injury and they made him wait 8 hours. They told my mother to "Stay away" when she was trying to tell the doctor that he had consistent bleeding. Do not recommend.
Will never go there again. Overall 4hrs of my life wasted there, it took an hour just to get through triage and 30 minutes just to get the line moving (must have been on break). It is disgusting how inconsiderate of peoples time they are and how disorganized they are. Also funny that the machines to rate the hospital are both not working.
This is the worst hospital ever. You are seriously better off staying at home. Being understaffed is not an excuse for being terrible people too. I know too many people who have needlessly died here. Sickening.
This is just in name hospital it's 3 January 2019 i was waiting for 7 hours just for cheak up its not fair the have just 1 doctor for all night
After a whole month they don't call you back. Their answering machine says only call once. I wonder why?
Cannot give negative or zero...Hence giving one star. Go somewhere else. Wait time is 6-10 hrs.
This is the worse hospital I have ever gone too, they don’t have enough staff and the wait is way to long just to see a doctor my mother and I had to wait 7 hours. DO NOT waste your time going here because they will send you home with meds and nothing else to follow up with. The doctors and nurses seem to be confused and unsure about things when you ask them questions and they have volunteers that’s do nothing but stand around on their phones. I’d rather drive myself further away from home then to come to this hospital again. Worse experience in my life.
Do not take your child to emergency at this location. They do not make children a priority no matter how young or how sick. If you want best care for your child take them to another hospital or family clinic. As for the rest of the emergency team, it is a complete mess, some nurses are standing around doing nothing and some are running back and forth back and forth. Why they cant hire another doctor to work in emergency is beyond me. Lived in ajax 25 years and seen so many amazing changes but the emergency section is always just a compleat joke and needs to clearly be re organized and more doctors on staff. When I had given birth to my daughter I was treated with so much love and respect in the labor and delivery, emergency waiting room is a horror story and I'm not sure who is in charge there but they aren't doing their job, they need more doctors on staff so they can get people out faster.
I went to emergency with a fractured femur in ambulance. The paramedics were from Toronto and told me that it would be a shorter wait if i sit in a wheel chair. They moved me to a wheelchair and parked me in a corner. I was in excruciating pain and I couldn't move the wheelchair as they aren't regular ones. After 2 hres no one had checked on me and I called my son as I had to go to the washroom. He took a uber and he had to take me to the washroom and help me. There were many many people who didn't look sick at all but they all went before me. It took another 2 hours of crying silently in that corner before they called me in. I was seen by a doctor and told I needed emergency surgery. I stayed in the emergency until 4 am and they moved me to 4 east. The next day, I had a bipolar anthroplasty as my femur was broken very close to the hip. It wasn't any better on the 4th after surgery. Patients were left on the urinal, for extended periods of time, no answers to call button, IV machine beeping non stop and I could go on. It was a nightmare. If you can avoid it, please don't go there. You would think that with all those bad reviews, they would try to improve. Unfortunately, they don't care ????
I’ve gone to this hospital many times without my life. At 6 I had to get stiches in my head which the doctor had done so poorly it left a big messy scar right in between my eyebrows. Second time they refused to stich up my busted open lip and told my mother to take me to a dentist to have him do it. Lastly I went their and was diagnosed with PID and was not properly treated and I am not currently in another hospital recovering treatment for the exact same infection. Every male doctor I had in their was rather incompetent except the one who removed glass out my foot several years back. Most of the nurses I dealt With were pleasant but doesn’t not make up for the amount of negligence I received from their physicians.
Went in last night around quarter to nine by recommendation of telehealth due to persistent chest pain. Went to this hospital in attempt to get better service than lakeridge oshawa. BOY WAS I WRONG. During the 10 and a half hours spent waiting in triage, what I experienced was just awful. Children crying needing immediate attention while being stuck there for hours while parents are belittled for even asking wait times. Nurses walking by refusing to answer questions saying how there's more important people in need of assistance. No food no water available to anyone. When a kind man offered Gatorade from his truck for the people waiting we were told no food and drink inside if we drank it in the waiting room we were to be kicked out. We had to literally go outside to drink it. They took maybe four people in every two hours claiming there were almost 100 people inside. When I was finally taken back the entire place was virtually empty except for staff. I listened to them making fun of a woman on the phone begging to bring food to their mother and was denied. After about 15 minutes of testing I was told they don't think it's anything serious, but don't take their word for it. Since it doesn't look like I'm dying, there's nothing more they can do, go home. When I went to leave there were still children and elderly people waiting to be seen, some having waited 12 hours at that point. There were some friendly staff in triage during the night shift. But any of the ER nurses that came by were just awful and berating. Saddest part is no one was yelling or really complaining. Everyone just sat there patiently and would ask basic questions, yet we were treated like we were acting out of line. My heart goes out to all the children and elderly people there who had to experience that and I hope they get the help they actually deserve.
Great medical staff, but there needs to be better communication to patients waiting. Is the wait going to be 2 hrs or 4 hrs?
They took very hood care if me because of personal matter I decided against doctors advice to leave now i regret i. Very very sick and depressed :(
Only giving 2 stars because of lacking doctors. I get it, they prioritize patients by their criticalness. But it gets in my nerves to see how all the available few doctors there start running whenever there's a critical patient and then they have noone else available. And also it really sucks when the wait go past over 5 hours. That is COMPLETELY unacceptable. They need more doctors! It's very upsetting to see a Canadian hospital lacking such. And pay for parking!? that's just pure BS! People who park there are not there for something entertaining, they are there because they have no freaking choice! How can a Canadian so called hospital take advantage of the situation for money grabs!? ridiculousness!
I came here at 8 am in the morning till 1 pm they didn't take me inside ,came for an eye problem
Worst place to get pregnancy scan, they take too long to send my wife reports to the doctor
We were at Lakeridge Ajax Pickering Hospital for my wife's delivery on November 13th. The whole process from registration to labour room to post pregnancy care and discharge was smooth and staff there are so friendly. We would like to mention nurses that took care of me, first it was Ms.Daniella and then for labour and delivery Ms.Kathy and Ms.Osas. Ms.Kathy was an experienced nurse and was so calm and ready to answer our 1000 questions. Thank you so much, at last but not the least Dr.Rubabaza, gynecologist. If it was not Dr. Rubabaza then we don't think she could have a vaginal birth. Excellent team ????, May God bless everyone and stay healthy and safe.
Honest to God if I could rate this lower than a 1 I would. Nothing but horrible experiences here. When I was a child I had a throat infection that required surgery. There were no beds available which is understandable, but my throat was closing up and needed immediate attention. So they quite literally sat me in a chair in a dark room with someone holding down my arms as the doctor cut out the infected abscess near my tonsils with a sharp instrument. No anesthesia whatsoever....I was maybe 11years old at the time. After that, I was merely given gauze to help the bleeding and the doctor left as I was with my mom there crying my eyes out. Separate occasion. My mother had an allergic reaction to some medication she had just been prescribed. I rushed her to the emergency room and was prevented by the security guard from speaking to anyone as there was a line up. Again, I am extremely understanding and can comprehend the fact that emergencies are emergencies, non discriminatory, but the fact of the matter is when someone is unable to breathe.....you can't wait your turn. I was screaming at the staff before finally someone opened the doors and asked what was going on... this was all going on meanwhile I could hear those same staff members laughing and talking loudly behind their closed doors. Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. When I got hit by a car I didn't even bother going to the hospital and ironically I ended up okay. This hospital is absolutely horrible and there is a very good reason that the inside joke around Ajax natives that if you have a heart attack, you go to Toronto before you fkn go to this place.
Worst experience ever! I arrived at emergency at 5:30PM sent by my family dr. For a blood transfusion after low testing results and fainting multiple times. It is now after 10:00PM I have yet to see a dr. and was told by the nurse that the lab doesn't like to give out blood?!?!? SERIOUSLY?!?! I love living in Durham but we need a new hospital and system put in place. No hospital is perfect, but this emergency department is just ridiculous and IT'S NOT EVEN BUSYYYYY!
My mother had surgery their and i could not believe how bad this place is. They did not set proper expectations having been though surgery myself made everybody panic. They brought food to her on a dirty tray that looked like it was someone else's that they did not eat. My mom is diabetic and they brought her a very sugary jello. Its also was clear no one two people talk to each other the what the doctor says i different from the RN and the anasteegielogist (cant spell it) no seem to know what shebhad done. Worst of all the unprofessionalism shown instead of taking a patient back their room to fix their catheter they fix it in the hallway in public view. UNACCEPTABLE. For people who are support to be held to the highest standard this was inappropriate i felt bad for the person who dignity was just out on display. What a joke
Wait time more than 4 hrs in emergency . I had to come out and go to Oshawa
I'm in the ER with complication from a surgery I had today at this hospital. They said 4 hr wait in emergency.. thanks! I'll just go die now ????. Parking is expensive/ it's an ER why are we paying?? And if u park at the community center they give you a ticket!! Charging station doesnt work, I'm so dehydrated and the vending machine is empty. Can I get my last meal please, I'll take some water! Edit : I finally saw a dr at 5hrs. They put me in surgery at the 6 hr mark and I was out of there and home by the 8th hr. They need to PRIORITIZE in the ER. They were doing first come first serve, I knew who was being called next. Triage lady literally could not care less!! She is blunt, rude and cold. Someone with a scratch should not take priority over someone who was internally bleeding from a surgery at that hospital. It shouldn't take 5 hrs (30 ppl in waiting room) for a dr to speak to me for 2 mins and realize I need immediate surgery!! While waiting in the second waiting room (G9) , I did not see a dr in the hallway for 30 mins! Completely under staffed... then again most hospitals are.
This is a good hospital. The doctors here are also good and treat well. The nurses of this hospital are also fine. The staff is friendly and has good care.
Ajax hospital is a conundrum. First of all this is one of the few locations in Ajax where you have to pay for parking. Not Cool! Their ER is awful. They have very odd practices of making patients sit in a line an shuffle up every time someone is called to the window. They do some initial blood work and then send you back to the waiting room with all the other sick people. The ER itself is poorly signed, and has no volunteers helping so you get in there and have no idea what their process is or where to go. The seating is 15 minute gang seating. It's very uncomfortable for anyone let alone someone feeling very ill who has to sit there for hours on end. One man was in so much distress as he tried to lie down across this bank of hard plastic chairs. It's important to make patients feel comfortable and this isn't happening at Ajax ER. However, when visiting their outpatient services for procedures, I have had a very different experience, the horrible uncomfortable seating is prevalent through the building, but the service is much better. They scheduled my husband for tests during the week following his ER visit for heart issues, however at Toronto General, I was scheduled the same tests over a period of 8 months for a similar issue, so Ajax is certainly more efficient.. The next time I needed outpatient care i asked my doctor to refer me to Ajax instead of his usual Toronto locations and I was glad I did - they were excellent - they were efficient, friendly and the procedure I had didn't hurt nearly as much as at other facilities I had gone to. Unfortunately I can only give this hospital a 3, since the ER is such a huge fail, but if you're going for tests or treatments I recommend this place wholeheartedly.
My father was in the hospital for over a week and when he went home with orders to discontinue his insulin. He has been an insulin dependent for 30 + years. He could have died had he not noticed he wasn't getting his insulin. That could have been disasterous. The orders on discharge should have been double checked before giving to patien .
Wish they separated those with the flu from those who are in for other reasons. I can't believe the number of people around us sitting with pails and vomiting! Sat there for four hours exposed to God knows what!
This hospital needs better staff and better nurse.. the nurses dont know anything.. wait time is so long just to see a doctor for 10mins.. went to ER with my baby for rash or infection i dont know what happened to her.. waited for 5hrs and still no call for check up.. a 10month old baby cant wait this long !! At the end we had to leave the hospital without check up.. n nurse didnt even feel to stop us or say anything why this much delay.. ????♀️
What is up with the volunteer on covid screening. Infuriating attitude. Thank you for giving your time, but KFC way to kill an already high blood pressure. Hats off to nursing staff, they were supportive and great in what we all know has been such rough times.
Worst Hospital. Brought my 3 month old to ER for shortness of breath and it took them 5 hours to look at her. Doctor and nurses were just standing around doing nothing at all. I ended up going to Scarborough General.
All of these reviews on here really show how horrendous people are when they are uncomfortable. Yes you may be in the worst pain of your life but many others are much more sick or dying. In a pandemic people are still slamming the overworked nurses who have been showing up everyday even at great risk to themselves to take care of a bunch of entitled adults. You didn’t get seen quick enough? This is an emergency room if you aren’t serious enough to be seen quickly then re-evaluate the choices that led you to coming to the ER for a tummy ache instead of taking some Tylenol and gas-x. If you are comfortable enough to come home and write a terrible review then you should feel grateful. The hospital staff is running off their feet witnessing death after death and you pathetic people sit on your keyboards from home mad that you had to wait 6 hours for something minor you should’ve figured out.
Visited a family member in the hospital and the disability parking was amazing and the doctor and nurses tending to the patients were so sweet and kind
The set up of the ER here is absolutely atrocious. There is never a nurse at a triage desk. The triage process is an absolute nightmare. The waiting room is very tight and there is absolutely no way you can social distance and keep 6 feet apart without actually leaving the ER. The nurses dont bother to call out names properly, so people are left wondering if their names were called. I dont get it. Why? Some simple procedure updates would go a long way here but no one here seems to care at all. I cant believe I would actually rather go to oshawa for medical attention than this place. Let that sink in...
My dad was treated here after passing out and being taken there by an ambulance. It was such a nightmare to try to find out from a doctor what his results or progress was like, nurses would take a message and say the doctor would call us only for the doctors to not call us and we'd go days without knowing information! The nurses were not allowed to tell us and repeatedly told us that as we were desperate for anything we could find out and they'd advise us only the doctor could which I guess I can understand as that's the doctor's job, but Lord help me if the doctor would pick up the phone to keep the super concerned family informed just once a day! My dad said the doctor would come visit and just ask his symptoms and not tell him either what was going on, he's older and not attentive to these things. I would go to another hospital if you can.
The staff at Ajax Pickering Hospital are taking precautions at this time to protect both patients and staff. Please be patient and share pertinent information so they can make a better diagnosis. I was screened and seen by a nurse and then a doctor without too long a wait. Keep in mind that waiting times will change depending on the number of people waiting for help. Had some tests, got a diagnosis and a referral to a specialist for a follow up. Great job.
Pleasant staff and clean. I had a feeling they were under staffed though.
It’s been more than 2 hours since we came to the hospital for Emergency service as my wife (19 weeks pregnant) was having extreme pain in her abdomen and no doctor came to see her yet. Only 1 doctor in ER available. I went to see the nurse 3 times that stating that my wife is not able to tolerate the pain but to no avail. I wish i can give 0 stars.
Thanks for risking your lives to help us, hope u safe health as u help others safe health
Half people can't speak English and all their stuff takes forever and the treatment overall is bad....Don't go...Unless your dying...Even then I don't know...they probably wouldn't know how to save you.
Went here for the first time on July 29. Dr Kempanar was very thorough and found that I had bi lateral pneumonia. He started anti biotics through intravenous and sent me home with an oral anti biotic and a follow up with Dr Joshi on August 8th. On the 8th Dr Joshi did not like how my chest sounded and was concerned that I was not getting better so he sent me to emerge to be admitted. I was kept in emerge green zone, in isolation. I had wonderful nurses taking care of me. Two that stand out to me were Barbara and Nii. These two went far beyond the call of duty to make sure I was comfortable and cared for. On the 12th I was discharged. On the 15th of August I took a turn for the worse again and once again Dr Joshi had me admitted. I spent another 4 days in emerge, orange where they ran all kinds of tests and blood work on me. I also seen the lung specialist at this time. I had my 2 favourite nurses from the green section, Nii and Barbara. On Sunday I was taken up to 2 West. I had Danielle ans Ashley as a nurse. These 2 were wonderful. Ashley is no longer there sadly. On Wednesday I was discharged. I am still recovering from the pneumonia and have found out my lungs have scar tissue which is making it very hard to breathe still. If it was not for all the doctors and nurses of Lakeridege Health Ajax I may not be here now. I owe a huge thank you to everyone involved in my care. Christine Stewart - bi lateral pneumonia patient
This hospital is a disgrace. They have terrible reviews from weeks ago but some how they are at the bottom and old good reviews are at the top. The ER nurses are bullies and they treat you like a dog. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL, THEY BULLY YOU WHEN YOU ARE MOST VULNERABLE! THEY MUST OF PAID TO COVER UP THE BAD REVIEWS!
if you can avoid this hospital at all do so. our mom was here 3 times in the last few weeks and each time was sent home until finally her condition deteriorated to the worse and was finally admitted. if I can give a negative score I would do so.
Took my mom to emergency as she was in alot of pain and being sick to her stomach. Told us it was "in her head" and we went home. Brought her back in again a day and a half later and told them it wasn't in her head that she is in alot of pain and requested a different doctor. Then, was told she was in severe kidney failure. Oh, and the wait in emergency for a doctor to see her was over 8 hours even though she came via ambulance.
Just had a procedure yesterday at this hospital. Was very nervous coming in as not really used to hospital visits and never had surgery before except when I gave birth which was ages ago..lol. My husband cannot accompany me inside because of Covid. Also, I was thinking that Covid may have put the frontliners to a lot of stress ang may be cranky and rude at times. But soon as I walked in everybody was very nice and comforting. From check-in to the operating room all the nurses and doctors were friendly, courteous and definitely they all know how to treat their patients. The doctors patiently answered all my questions and everything went well. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff. You are truly our heroes!
My doctors office
Every time I l go there to emergency l end up leaving because you can spend a whole day waiting to see someone and it does not matter to them if you had heart surgery and can,t breathe in their closed in waiting room and they will practically laugh in your face when you can,t stay because it's like they are starving to see you replaced with a new face to torture. . Someone should sue them for their lack of care and the Ajax hospital should be sent to wherever the sun don,t shine. Always has been my worst nightmare of a hospital. The only way they will ever see me again is in a body bag.
My dad died here 5 years ago through no fault of the hospital, he had a massive brain aneurysm and became brain dead pretty instantly, it was extremely traumatic And I was angry and avoided this place for a long time. But I just had surgery here myself and the experience has been wonderful, from pre-op appts, to the anesthesiologist taking lots of time to answer all my questions, to the nursing staff day of surgery and in the OR to the surgeon. Everyone was extremely kind, supportive and answered all my questions. For my first surgical experience I have zero complaints.
Absolute worst hospital. I have taken my mom here a few times and she has been treated terribly. The staff are honestly disgusting in Emergency and have no empathy for patients. People don't come to the hospital for fun, they are in need of care and sometimes immediate care and it would really alleviate some stress just from having some compassion. It is really disappointing and something should be done about this. Drive the extra km's if you can just to get better service and care!
Nurses shouls talk to pateint politely staff is so rude
They need to prioritise patients by injuries. 6hr wait wasnt fun while i seen paper cuts go ahead of others. Bad service
Nurse in triage was great however waited from 4 pm till 12 am to see the doctor. I asked a nurse when will I see a doctor I can sense no care in the world . Finally got treated and left after 1 AM . I should've of been isolated due to the symptoms however was told to sit in the waiting area with others. The doctor was great he was able to determine the illness and glad covid test was negative .
Extremely disappointed as Two Diamond Rings..... Gone...My 85 yr old mother who suffers from memory loss was taken by ambulance to Ajax Hospital for almost 1 month. June to July 2020 during Covid19. I tried to accompany her because she needed an advocate to speak and protect her. My mother is unable to do so for herself. However, I was denied access to my mom. I must give a thanks to the nurses and doctors who actually did a great job as far as her health needs were taken care of. She is now at home and is doing well. However to the person who took her rings. SHAME ON YOU!! I strongly believe in Karma. I hope that you get caught. Please read this and be careful when your family member is put into this type of position. I expected my mother would be treated with dignity and respect. Apparently this wasn't the case. Extremely disappointed.
Worst hospital ever! I arrived on a Thursday with blurred vision problems which I've never experience , find out its due to high sugar levels and two infections in my body. I get sent home and get told to go to my family doctor the next day. I go to my family doctor the next day and she tells me to go right back to the hospital. She sends me with a letter stating I am to be admitted right away. Instead I wait 5 hours in emergency only to find out that they lost my charts! After some speaking to they finally hussle themselves and admit me. Only to shove me into an emergency room on a small stretcher where I'm suppose to spend 4 days with nothing because apparently there aren't enough rooms. My own fault for coming to this dump
Been in ER for almost 8 hrs and still waiting for results from blood work and CT scan for my wife's TIA (mini stroke)! She had lost the ability to speak for 10-15 min and still waited in front waiting room for 3-4 hrs before even seeing a Dr. One she was seen for 5 min, test process went fairly quickly. CT scan waiting room was empty and we were taken right away. If they could move the initial consultation faster, this place may run better. Staff is mixed, some very friendly and helpful, while others are extremely rude with no bedside manner.
POOR. Brought my infant here for a fall they decided to have us wait over 4 hours to be seen. On top of that they put in a shared room to wait for the doctor with a child who has a horrible case of the stomach flu which now my child is extremely exposed to because there is no curtain or anything separating us. Not impressed at all my child is 9 months old and an evaluation would have taken 10mins. To just make sure she’s okay
The hospital Narses are very helpful and kind thank you guys for caring and helping
Stood at the information desk at east wing hoping for some info to directions to one of their clinics... literally this old man keeps his head down for the entire minute.. like are you sleeping on the job? Wake up you’re at work for gods sake
The receptionist in day surgery has no idea what she's doing. she's clueless and has a nasty attitude.
I am so lucky that I have a very nice doctor and caring nurse in operating room and nurses on night shift, she's really care to her patient.Im so lucky she is there at my overnight stay. Nurses in nursery ward way to go!
Went here in the middle of the night for a broken bone, I don't understand why the ER entrance is in the back of the building and you have to pay for parking in Ajax, this isn't down town Toronto I thought our taxes pay for health care. With only a few people waiting I thought I would be assisted quickly, yet I wasn't even admitted, there was a security guard sleeping in a room behind a double sided mirror I could see as I peered through a small paperwork opening, when he noticed me he moved into a corner to hide, after sitting around for an hour I decided this is useless and went home to make a splint for my bone. There is no liability here, the facility is designed to discourage people from going, the admission office doesn't have a linear progression, the staff parking is conveniently located near the entrance where you can admire an overwhelming fleet of exotic cars, I am utterly appalled and based on the other reviews here so are many others
I completely understand why this hospital is rated so low! I just received a reminder call for an appointment for sick relative relative who does not live with me. When I asked the person to call my relative directly with instructions, she RUDELY stated "if she has time" and that she can "only do one call" and then a abruptly hung up! Such poor service from a place that is supposed to care for people. I hope you can find out who this person is and give her some training on how to speak to people!!
the best hospital with some of the best orthopedic and emergency care I have seen. Nurses were kind and concerned. The team of doctors looking after me kept updated and would check on me every 15 minutes, great hospital with great care.
This part is strictly for day surgery. I have had several procedures done as day surgery over the years and have found the staff to be efficient pleasant and caring. As a tall man I’m not too thrilled about having to sit in the waiting room in a surgical gown designed for women, especially with no underpants but that would be my only complaint. However, emergency and long term care is another story. Nursing care at the hospital is hit and miss with some nurses being pleasant and helpful while others are a disgrace to the profession. Unless things have recently changed, I found the food to be unpalatable. At one time Ajax had its own kitchen staff and the food was excellent but the current caterers as a low as it gets.
This is one pathetic ER Hospital. They have one doctor and you wait for him for 10 hours before he shows up. It is like a jail you get stuck in. Whoever runs this hospital should be sued and fired.
One Sunday the end of April my son took me to your hospital as I was sick and had a very sore ear and head. Long story short, after being largely ignored I was told I didn't have pneumonia and to go home. I didn't know one could have pneumonia in one's ear and head. I was even refused a glass of water in my 5 hr. wait. Later at a clinic a doctor actually looked in my ear - which did not happen at the hospital - prescribed antibiotic ear drops and medicine. All my friends, relatives and neighbours agree we won't go back there.
This is not a place I would recommend going to unless absolutely necessary. The only good part about this facility is their Pinewood branch that is part of the hospital.
We took our 10 month old to the ER and I was blown away by how accommodating and friendly staff were. Everyone went above and beyond for us, from having a stuffed bear for our daughter to giving me an assessment room to use to change her diaper. Was very pleased with our visit.
Not the place to go if you have an emergency. Wait time is horrible
I had to go to the er at 12:30 am on Tuesday morning June 1. I ended up leaving at around 10 am so it was a long visit with lots of waiting. However I have to say the staff during the night was fantastic! From Shannon in triage who was kind and friendly to Dr Lussier who was patient and thorough. I wish I had the names of the male nurse who would take my bp and the female nurse who gave me my meds and a toasty blanket to help me rest. Without exception, everyone I met that night was professional and amazing. This review is for the night staff only because once the day nurses came in, it was a completely different experience...like night and day really haha. There was one nurse who was wearing a pink hat I think....she was really sweet. To think the night staff was on the back end of their shift and they were still able to treat people like...well...people....and do it with kindness and a smile. Yet some of the day nurses had just started their shift and were already barking at people. No one willingly goes to the er esp during covid unless they are scared of their symptoms and the night staff there was excellent and so chill! Thank you so much!
I have been sitting here for 20 mins...no one has even acknowledged me...this will be quite an experience i gather...smh...
ER experience varies, but most of the cases, it is bad. Some doctors and nurses are very rude and even show attitude. Our daughter was having fever and threw up once. The doctor just showed us a bad attitude because according to her it was silly to come to the emergency for this issue even when all the walk in clinics were closed due to holiday.
Words can’t express the neglect and elder abuse that went on. The list is too long of specific issues related to each visit my 90 year old cognative grandmother has experienced in the past 2 months with unfortunate hospital visits needed for her rapid decline in health. As a nurse myself I would never treat anyone the way my grandmother has been treated by their staff under any circumstances period.
At this hospital my wife experienced prejudice based upon her that she was a foreigner. This hospital staff is absolutely atrocious. If you have an accent, be prepared for them to pull out all the stops to attempt to make your life worse or inconvenience you. If you have an accent, look or sound different from the nursing staff you can expect the staff here to go to great lengths to cause issues for you. Well the doctors were very nice and professional. I wouldn't even wish my worst enemy to experience the wrath of the nursing staff or the management. The internal complaint people are very nice but turned out to only be able to further anger the staff that you complain about when they try to fix things. Beware this is not the hospital for people who are not white, native english speakers from this country. I revised my review to a 5/5 initially after talking with the complaint staff. I honestly thought that my concerns were fully addressed. Until I got a call from a very angry manager who promised if I come back to the hospital with my wife she will make sure I will regret it.
This is a third world hospital. The triage is small and the way it operates does not work. Highly populated area, but there is only 1 triage nurse. The red buttons to open the doors don't work. The staff are numb and emotionless (I guess when you're always short staff and the government makes health care cuts, you have to become numb). Why ask the pain scale in triage when nothing is going to be done? No pain medication or anti-inflammatory? ... I broke my ankle, when I arrived the pain scale was 10 and it was severely swollen. 6 hours of waiting with no pain meds or anti-inflammatory, and not being able to elevate, my ankle was so swollen it was making my toes twitch causing unbearable pain. Many people were telling the triage nurse to help me but they were just told I had to wait. I get it, it's broken and there are others who need immediate help, all I wanted was something to bear the wait. Are triage nurses not allowed to give medication? ...... I actually could go on and on and on, but the point is unless you are having a heart attack or stroke, go to markham!!!
WORST hospital. Don’t even think about it. I’ve lived in ajax for 20+ years. Meanest nurses and staff. Stay away.
Helped a friend of mine into the ER one evening a week ago, with several pain. When we arrived the two ladies in the front room were pleasant enough though flippant with their Covid precautions. I was allowed to wait with my friend in the first (of 3 waiting rooms). I watched for 4 hours as nurses berated, judged, and were plain rude to people with serious injuries. One nurse kept telling people that 'if they could make it into Emerg then they didn't really need help'. Ultimately, after 6-8 hours of waiting in an almost empty emergency room - while nurses gossiped to each other - my friend was told off for visiting the area from London and coming into Ajax Hospital instead of going home. Even though he had blood work done he was not given any answers or help because he was 'out of his Covid community bubble'. What is the point of OHIP or Emergency rooms, or an 8 hour wait only to be told to go home and go to your hospital?
Very experienced with this hospital. It’s dirty and the staff are mediocre at best. Go to Markham-Stouffville
Nurses are rude, the doctors don't know what they're doing, it's a total mess in that hospital. They should realize and understand that people who are coming into the ER are likely suffering some kind of pain/illness and may be slightly irritable. Try being kind and patient with the people and maybe they'll reciprocate. They don't need the sass in their times of trouble. I went in for severe abdominal pain which doctors thought was appendicitis. When they went in, they discovered it was something else, but decided to leave the appendix near the infected area, despite having the option and opportunity to just take it out. Now 7 years later, I have to get surgery to have my appendix taken out, which could have been removed when they were in my body 7 years ago... The doctor asked me why it wasn't taken out in the first place and asked where I had my previous surgery. I replied with I don't know, I came to this hospital, you tell me. She had no response.
I would rate this hospital a 0 but i had to add a star. Absolutely the WORST hospital i wouldn't bring a dog here!!! The nurse had the worst attitude. All the girl's in emergency are rude with HUGE attitudes. Not impressed at all. I will NEVER be back. I would definitely drive elsewhere before ever coming here. I am still blown away by the way they talk/ treat you. Also I was waiting for mom so i went to get a drink, ask the security guard where i could get one she told me everything was closed?? It was 11:45 pm... I don't really understand that? This isn't my first experience like this here.
Very disappointed at ER very unprofessional stuff and doctors here at Pickering ajax hospital longer wait time while only afew ppl in the room. Doctors dont know anything I dont know why it is in business as nurses talking loud some on their phone none pay attention to patients very disappointed and hope authorities pay attention to this .
Bad place
I was misdiagnosed by Dr Hancock in emerg and had to return later that evening with severe continuous vomiting due to an unnecessary antibiotic that he prescribed for a non existent lung infection. I was left lying on 3 chairs as I could not sit up, and no cot was provided. At the end of this ordeal, 2 to 3 hours later, the covering physician finally prescribed anti nausea medication and sent me on my way.
This hospital is the last choice in whole world. Worse than any third world country. All Stuffs and Dr. are rude and misbehaved. I can't believe this hospital is in CANADA! Extremely poor service. And no one knows what they are doing! Stay away from this hospital....
This is the worst of all the Hospitals that I have visited so far. The emergency dept is worst, nurses are rude and Dr don't know what they are doing. I was there for abdominal pain from 12 till 5 and it took Dr 5 min to discharge me, only 5 min and had to wait for 5hrs. I wont personally wont recommend this hospital to anyone.
Long waiting in EI and rude and disrepecful nurses
Slow, arrogant and rude if you ever get seen 5 hours waiting in a waiting room for a wsib claim and I was told to continue waiting
I have been to many other emergency departments in this province but this was by far the longest wait and most uncaring attitudes I have ever encountered. I just moved to the area and I will definitely drive further to avoid this place in the future.
If I could give this hospital a 0 star I would. My 20 month old fell and cut herself pretty bad. We’ve been sitting here for now (currently ongoing!!!!) for 6 hours! No one has seen us. It’s now 4 am in the morning!!!! This is not an isolated incident. My mom came here last week and had to wait 8 hours to be seen by a DR. Washrooms are dirty and there’s blood on the toilet seat. Heard nurses talk about it but no one was sent to clean it! Nurses have a bad attitude and don’t want to do their job. Don’t go here unless you have time to waste, or you want to die waiting.
The worst hospital you can ever be stuck in for making the horrible decision to come for serious injuries/illness. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. Absolute garbage from facility to its staff. You will regret going there. The fact that a hospital can have a rating below half is terrifying enough and should be a warning. Absolute garbage!
Was in emergency sept it was so dirty the doctor was rude and didn’t have an answer, after triage was sent to sit in a tiny room with about 6 others I chose to stand in the hallway.. great way to pass covid.. when the doctor gave someone a diagnosis it was not private at all, everyone could hear! I really can’t believe I was in Canada.. I don’t want to be there as much as the doctors but that’s what they chose to do and there is no need to treat someone like garbage! If I could I would give a rating of -1…
This hospital is just as bad if not worse then it was 10years ago. They don’t care about anything but their pay checks. I suggest you go somewhere else. Also If you have someone younger then 19 go to sick kids for the best treatment and experience possible
I had surgery yesterday at the Ajax hospital and cannot say enough good things about all the staff and indeed the hospital itself. Everything was well planned out and worked well. Thanks to everyone.
I feel very lucky to have this facility so close to my home. Unfortunately I’ve been many times. I can’t even begin to explain how much they have helped me and my family or how much they’ve improved our lives and health over the years. I am extremely grateful for the staff we have at Lakeridge Health Ajax and the Paramedics serving the Durham Region..... thank you all for your dedication, compassion and hard work.
Scarborough general has better wait times. Waited 2 hours tonight didn't get to see a Dr. A girl had heavy bleeding from her leg they still made her wait in the waiting room Will never come back here even If I am dying
If I can give this location a minus score I would. I went to the ER per the e-mail I received to take my child there for a COVID test. We waited an hour before one of the nurses told us they don't test for COVID in the ER!! My son has a heart condition and we should not have been exposed to the ER for such a long time. Furthermore the seats were not being sanitized after each use and the people were being treated like cattle by the staff. This is not my first encounter with this ER. in a previous visit for a open cut on my sons' eye which was bleeding, we were passed over for another family who was there. The mom of the other family confirmed that she had called her friend ahead to ensure they wouldn't have to wait for their child's burn to his palm to be seen. I have every sympathy for the mother she did what any mother would to ensure her child was treated. But it begs the question, how is it possible that a patient who arrived after us, and with a similar injury was treated before? on that same day the elderly lady sitting beside me nudges me said you have to either know someone here or be white to get the VIP service. My son and I were there for 5 hours before the deep cut on his eye was looked at by a doctor. Needless to say I will never be visiting this hospital again.
I was a patient in ajax and went to druxys when I saw how unsanitary it was I would never ever eat from there the man prepared sandwiches handling all the food with his bare hands disgusting after I spoke to several of the nurses on my floor they all said they won't eat there it is unclean and the man is very rude they are hoping they will fold I agree with them get a tim hortons in three
Yesterday I had to get rushed to the emerge after falling and smashing my head in ice. The whole experience was terrifying but honestly I am so happy they took me to Lakeridge Health. The staff was incredible kind to me and really helped me feel a little better. One ER nurse Mikayla was phenomenal with me and literally helped me feel so safe. The emerge doctor who was taking care of me even periodically called me once I went home to make sure I was okay since I had a concussion. I don't think I have ever experienced such kindness and compassion from any hospital in my life. Thank you
worst hospital in the Durham region...the wait to be seen is insane,16 hours later i was sent home with prescriptions and follow up appts. The dr i saw in the morning when shifts were changed she was odd and rude at the end she said they were no more test to do ,which i knew was not true but i just wanted to get the hell out of there so i didnt say anything, got home still not well...if you can at all do go to Sunnybrook and do your research.
Worst emergency department. Not organized. Wait times unbelievable long.
You guys really need to work on your staffs compassion and phone manners. I called because my grandma was in the ER and she’s not really good at explaining what’s happening with her, the operator answered the phone by saying “yes”. Then the staff in ER was so rude. It’s truly such a shame how seniors are treated at this place. My grandma said she asked for water and the nurse said she would back and never returned, she’s been there for over 9 hours and barely offered a bite to eat. Truly such a sad health care system we have. No compassion, manners or care for anyone especially seniors.
The Worst Experience Ever. Wasted 10 hours to be told to follow up with your family Dr. The nurses were helpful & pleasant but over all the service was very slow & disappointing. I m still in pain & taking pain killers but they couldn’t find find what was causing it. Hopefully I never have to go here again in my life, but than again its free health care so they don’t really give a damn !!!
Worst hospital experience ever. Had my daughter taken to this hospital via ambulance. The "care" provided at the hospital was a disgrace. Stay away from here if you want to stay alive.
Worst experience ever. Came in at mindnight with pain and wasn’t seen by doctor until 5:30am just to be told to wait even longer for an ultrasound tech at 9am or get an appointment. I got the appointment for 1:30pm that same day. Went home and got a few hours of sleep and returned to another nightmare just to receive my results I arrived at 1:15pm and was still not seen @4:15pm I was still waiting to see a doctor. Horrible!!
I wish I can give this hospital zero stars. My friend was right, this is where people go to die. The staff are slow and outdated, I came in for an x-ray for my thumb and shoulder. They only gave me an x-ray for my shoulder, had to wait 4 hours for the doctor to tell me it's a sprain. Fine. Then he tells me whats wrong with my thumb, when I told him, he told me he needs an x-ray and makes me wait all over again because they didn't x-ray it in the first place. My dad is also sick and they're making him wait in the emerg, for 5 hours, same with my mom, and my other family members. This hospital needs an overhaul, or a shutdown.
It took 35 minutes just to be acknowledged by part 1 of triage. The doctors seemed annoyed when I asked questions and we're just trying to get people out instead of properly taking care of their patients. it took 5 hours to find nothing and they sent me home empty handed. Went to Mt Sinai and it only took them 1 hour to find I had a kidney infection. Avoid rouge valley hospital at all costs.
Appointment has no meaning here… you get an appointment after your multiple hours of wait at ER, then you get an appointment with an ‘on-call’ specialist 3-4 days later. You show up on time for the ‘appointment’ to wait 3 hours for a scheduled appointment. Seriously!!? Such a waste of money and time.. Healthcare system needs to be privatized.. let’s make them answerable and let’s have any performance metrics.. at least something.. people need to wake up. This is our right to have a helpful healthcare system that we can rely on..! Whatever is going on right now is not a system and is not working.. we pay so much in taxes and so many people do donations for this!? All we are doing is paying some people to do very inefficient work.. which is not going to get any better in the future..
Thank you for this place!
Worst hospital ever. Not helpful in any way. Don't want to answer any questions and extremely rude on the phone at the fracture clinic.
Rude, cold , uncaring staff and nurses in the emergency room. They talk down to you and make you feel ashamed for being ill ,hurt and in need. My spouse collapsed inside, in front of the doctor on staff, nurses and receptionist. One nurse snapped at him and told him to get off the floor while another chimed up and said "leave him there! I'm not helping him up". Hey ladies, beside manner goes a long way and if you dont like to help people , which is an essential part of your job, QUIT. We dont need to be paying your wages through our taxes for your inconsiderate, rude ,demeaning behavior and lack of appreciation in another's suffering. As a side note, the only person to help was the woman behind the desk, thank you to her for her kindness. The doctor who was there looked at at like we had 3 head . Isnt this an "emergency room" GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, THEY REALLY ARENT INTERESTED
Unadulterated crap! Staff, nurses unfriendly, rude, uncaring. Not all but most. I have not seen any improvement. Where the hell are these people coming from. I know it's not easy to be a nurse but when you are should you not be dedicated and sensitive to the suffering of the patients and practice the hospitals "mission statement"?
such rude doctors and staff like they dont care. Stay clear from this hospital i would rather die then go there again.
Very disappointed with the care at this Hospital I was a patient a few weeks ago. When the Dr gave me my results he was reading another patient's chart. They also discharge you because of no beds and tell you if you get worse come back. This person had a fall couldn't walk was taken by ambulance and they are in home Oxygen.
THEY SAVED MY LIFE!! I WALKED INTO EMERGENCY AND DIED ON THE SPOT. 35 MINUTES LATER THE TEAM OF DOCTORS AND NURSES REVIVED ME. DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THAT. THANKS TO THE FANTASTIC TEAM @ ROUGE VALLEY AJAX!!
On Feb. 4th, I received excellent care from the intake nurse , the anesthesiologist, the OR nurse and the doctor. Above all in these times, I felt safe,
The Triage Nurse in reception was nothing less than rude. The wait time given only 3 people in the waiting room is disgusting. It was 4.30am on a weds morning. Why is it like this?
emergency is very slow but that is partially because people with non emergencies are in there
My husband had day surgery here. Every single person I came in contact with today during this stressful time was STELLAR!! From the nurses, to the admissions staff, to the volunteers and the housekeepers, everyone was pleasant, caring, polite and professional. Frankly, I was blown away by their amazing attitudes. Thank you all for making me feel comfortable and setting such a high standard of care.
Great doctors and nurses in labor and delivery.Really enjoyed my stay
Absolute trash hospital. Took a young COVID patient to emerg. They had the patient who had difficulty breathing wait 7 hours only to tell her she has to wait another 5 to 6 hours. They will have you die at their chairs. Terrible traige system. Terrible nurses who have attitude and yell at patients. They signed up to work in healthcare but are the worse healthcare providers I've ever come across. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL!
Excellent patient care. Staff are very polite, respectful and professional.
I am here at the hospital ER right now with my father. Its unfortunate to see racism existing in a hospital. Everyone who came after us without any medical priority is done by now and sleeping at their home but we are just held back and his chart is being tossed to the end by Lisa ( the nurse) because I dared to question the Dr's availability. She without checking on my father came to an assumption that he is "fine". The worst management I have ever seen in a hospital. Update: So Dr Kempara wrote a prescription which he confirmed that its covered by the insurance . Now I am at the pharmacy and guess what? its actually not covered. In order for us to make it covered the Dr is suppose to write a code and fax it back so we have to wait for another hr at the pharmacy. It could have been done over the phone but ofcourse Lisa refused to do with the pharmacy and asked him to fax that she again just take her sweet time.
Not happy with the ER here. Went with my mom because she was having hard time breathing. After waiting for an hour for triage we went to registration and the lady ask my mom about her religion. Once I told her what we follow we waited another 2 hours and there were people that came almost an hour after us were taken in before my mom. People that came after us were not as bad as my mom and my mom needed more attention. When we came in we waited for another hour before a nurse or a doctor came in to check up on her. I am writing this review at the hospital right now while waiting because I am really upset. I just hope they are not making us wait because of our religion. I hope this message gets to the head of the Lakeridge Health.
The emergency room at this hospital operates on a first-come-first-serve procedure. I arrived to the hospital with my 15 month old son who bleeding from his head, but I still had to wait more than an hr and a half before he was called in to see the doctor. Those who had emergency's less severe than my son went on to see a doctor before he did. As I was waiting in the emergency room full of at least 20 ppl, I noticed that patients were being called in the order that they arrived. That's ridiculous. Today the same thing happened. I arrived at ER in excruciating pain to the point where I was screaming in the ER. I had to wait over an hr before I called in for a doctor to see me. I was clearly in a lot of distress which is what one of the nurses told me. But those who weren't in any distress at all got called in before me. And then once again I noticed that patients were being called in the order that they arrived...ridiculous. The doctor's have misdiagnosed me a few times as well. Avoid this hospital if you can.
They do a good job prioritizing the ER. People who needed more attention who came after than me went before. (Duh) People need to understand they’re not the center of the world. Yes, I sat there in mild pain for hours but it’s okay because if someone else has a major threat, they need to be seen first. The nurses and doctors are nice and do a great job taking care of you.
Worst hospital experience ever I live in Waterloo and my mother is in this hospital I cal and get a appointment for Sunday at 10.00am but when I get there I was denied the visit
Not sure how the ER is now but a few years ago my 80 yr old Grandmother fell down 7 stairs to a cement basement floor. ER by ambulance and they were going to send her home without so much as a CT to check for a bleed. They didn't check her pupils. She had a headache and was vomiting. I told my Mother to demand a Head CT. Sure enough within seconds of being in the CT it showed a bleed and they were going to send her home. My Mom wrote a letter to the CPSO about the ER Doctor. Turns out he had many complaints and noting ever done. I hope he is no longer working there.
Worst er and nurses attitude is so rude
I'm the first group to be called in when I got here and that's after waiting for 40 minutes. Now we've been waiting for 30 minutes and nobody had been called in beyond that. I've been in constant pain and they have called me in yet.
If I wasn’t in pain and had to drive myself. I would have gone to Markham Stouffville. This Hospital has been poorly managed since I moved here 15 years ago. Take my advice for anywhere else!
Terrible wait time. Barely anyone in the waiting area yet I'm waiting 4 hours. Terrible.
I had my baby boy here. I had the best experience ever. I was so nervous because I didn't know what to expect (first time mum). But wow I was so happy with my experience. Not only did my doctor, Dr. Gordillo get to deliver my son, but the entire staff was amazing. Every single one of the ladies were so nice and caring. I forget the nurse who helped my doctor deliver my son, her name was either Shauna, Shanice, something like but she was a sweetheart to say the least. They were all so caring and knowledgeable. The food was surprisingly great too! I want to say thank you Dr. Gordillo & all of the nurses as well. My baby boy is perfect, he is 6 months old now.
No it's a not a friendly hospital nurse are raffle Feels like working for money hospital means not like that when the doctor see or say friendly welcome 25% sickness are gone but this hospital not like that even register there are lazy Very less doctors NO PRIVACY at all
The best hospital in Ajax.. if I ever hit the jackpot I will definitely make a donation!!! Thank you to all the doctors and staff at this hospital.
Horrible hospital, i waited like 8 hours just to see a doctor everytime i went, I took my son who was vommiting they told me i should have taken him to the family doctor, they told me that it costs 500 for the government just to do registration, well if it costs so much why dont you lower your fees, this place is also racist they take care of white people rather than minorities, they only have one docror working at one time, they managed to delete my perious review but if you are in the area avoid and try another hospital if you are able
I have been here on emergency. Sadly they took me as if Its a casual case. It's okay I understand what they go through at times. Wait times may be a bit longer on casual visit. Parking price is a bit too much.
Emergency is completely inhumane. Came in around 10am with chest pains... fingers tingling... shortness of breath.. they had me sitting in the waiting room for over 2 hours. When they called me in, they had me sit inside another small waiting room. When seen by a nurse, found out that I had a slight fever. Then had me wait back again to the small waiting room. Then later called me to go in to another room. Dr walked in asked why I was there, told him my symptoms. I also told him I was at St Michael 2 mths ago in the emergency room with the same symptoms and was diagnosed with Pericarditis. The dr asked me ‘what made them think it’s Pericarditis?’... really?!?! Gee dr, I don’t know, perhaps it’s based on their assessment and tests?!?!. At that time, that st Michael emergency dr prescribed pills which made the symptoms go away within 24hrs. I was given 3 sets of pills... 2 of which I had to take only for a few days and the 3rd to take for 90days...Now, at this Ajax hospital, the dr seemed more occupied in disproving the previous dr’s assessment. He listened to my heart with a stethoscope and told me my heart sounds fine.. last I heard from the other dr, my family dr and cardiologist, you can’t hear nor tell easily through stethoscope. I told him all these other dr. / specialist told me you can only tell through ultrasound or ECG. Then he made me move back again back to the small waiting room... for someone who have chest pains and hard of breathing, one would know you should not move much. Then, I was told I need to get ultrasound but it’s all the way in another wing (3-4min walk). They made me walk!!! No wheelchair... within the first min of slowly walking in pain not reaching 25% of the way, I collapsed. Other nurses in the hallway got me up and someone brought a wheelchair. They brought me back to the emergency area but then the dr told them to turn back around and take me to ultrasound (echo) wing. 8 hours later.. after back and forth ...X-ray and blood test ... the dr came back cheerfully announcing that he found nothing wrong and he believed that I never had pericarditis. He went on telling me how he believed the other emergency dr have not properly tested me or performed the proper ultrasound. He was about to walk away.. So I responded frustrated, “ok, so what is it... what’s causing the pain?’ He said I don’t know. He abruptly walked back closer to me... He then abruptly reclined my chair which made the pain even worse (imagine a constant stabbing on your chest)... I yelled ‘OW!!’... then he started poking my chest and asked me if it hurts... I said YES!!... then he said ‘it’s nothing more than just muscular discomfort since it hurts when I touch your chest’... I told him ‘ It’s already hurting because you made me lie back!!’.... it went in one ear and out the other... he then said, I will prescribed you Tylenol for the pain...I told him ‘if it’s the same thing you guys gave me as a shot, well it didn’t do anything for the pain’. His response was ‘I suggest you talk to your cardiologist about the last set of pill you are taking for pericarditis because you don’t need it’... then he walked away. So my advise to anyone who has an emergency need... DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL UNLESS YOU WANT TO DIE... NOONE LISTENS TO YOU... IT SEEMS THEY ARE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT DISCREDITING THE OTHER DRS... THEN NOT GIVE YOU AN ANSWER TO WHAT YOU CAME THERE FOR... Its been 3 days now and I’m still dying in pain... crying myself to sleep at night... the Tylenol doesn’t do much but make me drowsy and now I have the chills and headache due to the pain... Today, since I have some leftover pills from the other dr, I took it this morning and by noon the pain has subsided to 6/10...I am hoping when I see my family dr tomorrow, I get proper treatment!!! I rate this hospital minus 1 trillion!!!!
How did my day go? My mom died this afternoon at 2pm. It's now 11pm and I should be home grieving but instead I'm here at the hospital looking at my mom's body in a room that I can't go into waiting. Why you ask? Because for some reason the staff at Ajax-Pickering Hospital refuse to give us the form to sign for an autopsy. Some nonsense about having to talk to the Coroner. This is after we talked to the doctor today and said "YES, we want an autopsy". This is after my best friend who is a nurse in a hospital says he's always been trained to ask the family if they want an otopsy then give them the form if they do. This is after when my aunt died just 2 and a half weeks ago the doctor asked (over the phone) if we wanted an autopsy and we were given the papers by the nurse no questions. Did I mention that the staff has been very rude?!?! "How would we know xyz ..." "but we don't deal with that..." "that has nothing to do with us..." "Why would we know that". I had to walk away before I boxed someone. And that's not 1 nurse but 2, plus the doctor on the floor just turned his back and walked away from me when I asked for the coroner's eta. (That's Erika, Carol, and Dr Malik). Now don't get me wrong the ones that were here when my mom passed were understanding and patient as was the doctor. But maybe that was pre "oh your serious about that autopsy" cause since then everyone's been cold as ice to us" And when we were told earlier the Autopsy option was up to us there was no mention of it potentially costing $2000. Now all of a sudden oh it will cost you. I thought my mom simply had a heart attack but with this attitude now I wonder. "What's wrong Ajax-Pickering hospital could it be because your released my mom from emerg-yesterday and now she's dead?"
They have the worst triage staff that work in the emergency. Everyone's been dealing with their unnecessary bad attitude and making everyone feel worst than they're already feeling.
Nothing but love for all the staff here. Very kind and caring ❤️
I went to emergency after feeling severe abdominal pain on Thursday. I waited 4 hours, and I wasn’t seen by Triage. I told the staff that I was in excruciating pain, and they just ignored me. I decided I couldn’t wait anymore because I was exhausted and in severe pain. My husband decided to take me to Scarborough General. After two minutes of waiting, I was seen by the Triage nurse. Within two hours at Scarborough General, I had my blood work and ultrasound and found that I had internal bleeding. I needed immediate surgery, and I’m so grateful for the Doctors, Nurses and Staff. I would’ve died if I stayed at Lakeridge. I highly recommend going somewhere else if you need immediate care. I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS HOSPITAL EVER AGAIN UNLESS I WANT A DIE.
My wife check in at 10:30 pm, with me due to having bleeding on 10 weeks pregnancy. After log in Triage system and wait more than 1 hour for for go to Triage (Step 2). Then again wait for 30 to 40 minutes for registration. Then wait more 4 hours to send my wife to green room for doctor and she is still waiting in waiting room for doctor. At triage they took blood work and until now we are in waiting to see doctor. In this bleeding situation if something happen to my wife or something happen to my baby then who will be the responsible? No priority on urgent care required patients I saw few patients in very bad shape they also waiting long lasting wait. The behavior of nurse very rude. I request it please let me go with my wife because she can't speak and understand English very well. But nurse follow the rule no visitor allow with patient. But that rule not followed whe 60 years old mother took his 30 years.old son with him because he drive his wheel.chair? My wife not on wheel chair that's why they can't allow me to go with her. That's way we Canadian welcome to new immigrants those not fimilar about Ontario health system. Very disappointing behavior from nurse and rules those are on place right now in emergency of Ajax and Pickering hospital. No visitor allow in hospital that make sense but not allow in emergency that's ridiculous. Wait time there is no end of waiting 10:3pm to now is 5:30 am of morning still my wife in waiting room and waiting for doctor. ????
Service and staff were ignorant, rude and shaming me for self harm. Took an insane amount of time to get stitches and see a psych. They locked me up and i couldnt speak to anyone for hours and wasnt allowed to charge my phone. Avoid this hospital at all costs. Their over the phone pharmacy service is terrible also. Ive been off my meds for four days and calling everyone and they keep telling me my doctor will do it when he's 'ready'. Go to centennery in Scarborough if you can, its ALOT better.
Worst hospital in Ontario, hands down. There’s no arguing that whatsoever.
Hplease avoid the emergency ward....after waiting for 5 hrs have to personally opt out to come out of the emergency ward because no one is available to attend you and nobody knows when someone will attend you that to when you have gone there for an emergency.pathetic service
Save your life and go somewhere else. You could die in here waiting and they wouldn't realize until couple hours later. Horrible. Wish there were negative stars available.
Worst ever service they dont have plenty of staff and the available staff works very slowly,it took 4 hours for a small checkup
Train wreck from A-Z had to leave smelt of puke and piss. Go somewhere else
The worst hospital you can be in.. Rude nurses in Emergency.. Unprofessional staff.. If you could avoid this hospital, please do so... Not recommended at all!! I wish I had a way to rate 0.. This is not my first time here and my experience is based on multiple visit... Ajax/Pickering needs a better hospital. Another visit today Dec 15, 2021: Still the same worst and rude customer service!! Not sure why a hospital with a 2.2 rating is still operating with the same management? They should change their way of treating patients!! I think nobody cares, I can see lots of unsatisfied ppl here, how can this change?
Quick easy great
I was in the hospital this past summer for 38 days and my experience was very positive. Two surgeries in that time period and the staff was awesome. In this time of the pandemic and short staff, the nurses were always pleasant and took their time with me. On another positive note, the food was actually very very good.
This is not a good hospital. If you can tough it out in a state of emergency and get to Centenary Hospital in Scarborough, it’s worth the drive! Trust me. I cut my finger and required stitches. My husband drove me. The triage nurse was extremely rude, abrupt and sarcastic for no apparent reason. A child in the main waiting area vomited on the floor; when staff was told repeatedly (several times, not only by myself but by others), they nodded, saying they’d take care of it but completely ignored the situation and its unsanitary ramifications. And lastly, my finger ended up getting infected despite a tetanus shot, following their recommendations on applying Polysporin and changing the dressing; which implies it wasn’t properly cleaned and disinfected by the physician who stitched me up. Overall, not a comforting experience at all.
Had been warned about going here in the past and will never go again. Took my 25 yr old daughter there on Saturday as she was having trouble breathing and was on day 11 of that horrible flu and she didn’t feel like she could drive herself. She’d had pneumonia once before and it had presented the same way. Arrived between 5:00-5:30. Four hours later we were still in the waiting room. Patients really are treated like animals. The woman doing the registering was so rude. I quietly approached a petite, young red haired nurse and asked when we may get to be seen. She told me to never come up and scare her like that. We left. On Christmas Day my daughter seemed to take a turn for the worse. We got her to Markham Stouville hospital where she was seen almost immediately and diagnosed with severe pneumonia shortly after. They treated her for hours with puffers and antibiotics and wouldn’t let her go home until they were satisfied that it was safe to do so. ( along with several prescriptions). She was treated with kindness and respect through the entire process. The staff were wonderful. This is the only place we will go on now on those rare occasions when it’s necessary. As far as the Ajax Pickering hospital is concerned they need to either fire the entire emergency crew or put them through some sort of sensitivity training. These people really don’t enjoy their jobs. Better yet, close down that emergency department before someone dies from negligence.
This is the slowest hospital I've ever been too. Doctors are ruthless and the nurses are miserable. I've never been to a hospital and watched a 4yr old girl with a open bleeding wound on her forehead sit for 2 hours before even being able to register....or a little boy crying and mouning in pain with a very high fever for 6.5 before someone took a look at him... Im disgusted with the staff and the lack of interest they have to heal patients.
I actually wish to give this hospital no stars at all the service were not good , the nurse in the emergency room didn't have the common sense and were rude on how to deal with the patients and their family members . My sister who was the patient did not get a proper place to stay and when we asked if they could give her a place to rest we got a rude reply which was not even the answer to our request. I am very disappointed with this place and we'll never come again .
Horrible hospital. I do not reccomend unless you are dying.
Very bad service, nurses so rude, mis diagnosed my grand son came with pain on the abdomen he was taken an ultrasound and Dr said was anything wrong , he was sent home 5 hrs later he got worse and we took him to Oshawa and with the first check Dr said was appendicitis and he was operated 3 hrs later .
Ajax hospital itself is a great hospital, it is the unfortunate condition of the emergency department that gives the hospital a terrible image. We have frequented Ajax hospital almost everyday from March 31st - May 30th this year. In this time my mom went from emerg to 2East to 2West to 2North. I can sympathize with everyone's frustration with the emergency department, we too were in the same boat when mom was first admitted. We had to deal with a few very nasty and incompetent nurses but there were also a few very caring and efficient nurses, so it varies. Once mom was shifted out of emerg to 2East, 2West and 2North our experience was very positive. All the nurses, PSW, PSRs, physio, OT, RTs, tech etc etc were excellent, caring and competent and gave wonderful support and care to mom and ensured our 2 month hospital stay was very comfortable. So I wouldn't write off the entire hospital as being inefficient, however the emergency department definitely needs major improvements.
THE WAITING ROOM - ONE STAR! In the hospital with my mom writing this as I sit with her waiting. This ONE STAR rating is specifically for the lack of sanitization in the Emergency waiting room. It is shocking to see patients vacating a seat and said seat taken by another and another WITHOUT any sanitization. This must be some breach of COVID protocol. How is this possible in a health care facility where sick vulnerable patients have gathered? I called a health care worker friend who was equally appalled. She told me it is NOT the norm because Markham Stouville is vigilant about sanitizing their waiting room. Is Ajax Pickering short of funding? The $16 -$20 parking fee should be more than enough to cover the cost of contracting at least ONE cleaner to sanitize the seats. It is a small space and the seat turnover rate is about every 35 - 60 minutes. How hard is to achieve this? THE CARE - 5 STAR The nursing staff and Doctor on duty today Friday, August 20 are just superb. Everyone of the nurses were really polite and behaved in a respectful manner towards my mom. The doctor took a while to come (is was a pack room). He displayed great bedside manner. He did not rush my mom, spent the time to listen to her responses to his questions and thus was able to determine CT Scan was needed. CT Svan was done in lightening speed with a nurse wheeling my Mom on the bed to do it. STILL waiting to get her final report but at the time of writing I am well pleased with the nursing care mom has received. CONCLUSION I will still keep the ONE star because the lack of sanitization in the waiting room is really frightening and should be immediately addressed. This is mass infection waiting to happen. You can do better Ajax-Pickering, I know you can! Please clean up your act!
This hospital is actually the worst. I get really bad migraines, and needed to go last night. My parents are away and told me I should just go to Markham Stouffville hospital instead but since I could not drive myself I decided to go to the nearest hospital. BIG MISTAKE. As soon as I entered the triage room after an hour just to be registered the nurse there was unbelievably rude. She basically looked at me as if I had five heads because I was there to find help. And basically undermined anything I said and literally interrogating me when I was explaining what I was there for and made snide comments. I was already uncomfortable enough being there because of the Covid-19 out break. Maybe in HER eyes it may not of been an "emergency" but when you're in so much pain and the migraines are affecting your day to day life, you go to get help especially when you've exhausted everything you can possibly due to treat it at home. If you're working in health care you should be able to support people and WANT to help them, if not go find another profession. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, but trust me anyone who needs to GO to the emergency room is ALSO having a bad day. Needless to say I left right after, because if thats how the staff treat people I'd rather just go to Markham and be handled with CARE.
Hands down worst/slowest process I've ever been apart of. You will wait for hours to go from waiting room one to waiting room 2 then after a few more hours you'll go on google and give it a mandatory one star review. If i could give it zero stars I would. The guy beside me has been here for upwards of eight hours I have been here for five. I read all the reviews before I got here" they werent going to be real but trust me they are. Stay away.
If I could give zero stars I would. This hospital is a disgrace and the emergency department is a nightmare. I took a friend through emergency who had a serious medical situation: she had brain surgery two weeks prior and had intense bruising and swelling up and down her leg - I feared a blood clot. Once in emergency we had to stand in a line BEFORE being allowed to even see or speak to the Triage nurse! Ummmm, doesn't this defeat the purpose of Triage care? People were being seen by the Triage nurse in the order in which they arrived - NOT - by medical urgency! While waiting to see the triage nurse a woman brought her husband in whom she feared was having a stroke ... she went to the front of the Triage line in order to express her fears to the triage nurse but was told to go back and wait in line ..... I wanted to throw up - I simply couldn't believe my eyes or ears. Disgraceful. Scary. Incompetent. There aren't enough words. Stay away from this hospital. I will never be back.
Reception/admitting to the nurses and doctors in day surgery made for a very comfortable experience.
Went to Emergency with my family member and had an absolutely awful experience. The people there do not care about you, how you're feeling or if you're comfortable. They are impatient and I was given the impression that they just wanted me to leave. This experience spans from the receptionists, all the nurses and the doctors. When I saw the previous reviews here, I assumed my experience would be different, but it really is that bad. Take the extra 10-20min and go somewhere else.
I have been calling for weeks to try to schedule an appointment or at least speak to somebody there is nobody available to answer the phone they do not return voicemails and you are unable to physically go in to book an appointment. Staff is very rude and they have nobody in the hospital who has any information in regards to booking appointments with mental health doctors. I was later told after I dialed every extension until someone finally returned one of my 30 voicemails that they are unable to accommodate anyone for at least a year. So no doc could speak to me for one year. The voicemail initially said you could leave your contact information for someone to get back to you. This week the voicemail says we do not return any voicemails. I don’t know if anyone is even working in this department period, as no one has any information and they cannot direct you to anyone to speak to. I was referred by my doctor and my matter was marked urgent, they do not care, and I will die before I go to Ajax hospital for help
Worst experience ever, the nurses in Triage are extremely rude with so much attitude. After waiting for like 2 hours i just went up-to ask what’s happening and even before i finish my question she rudely answered ‘ People wait for 7 hours also’ and just before that we herself went out and got her family/friend lady inside directly to the doctor without waiting or registering in Triage. This is the unfair treatment All the nurses should be given proper training how to talk with people when you specially are in public services
Government needs to look into this place.. poorly run. Understaff and dirty.
My daughter had collapsed at an ice skating rink. The paramedics took me to this hospital. My daughter was only 7 years old. She was admitted at emergency. I kept telling the staff to contact Sick Kids as my daughter had underlaying issues. They discharged her two hours later. The following Monday I took my daughter to Sick Kids for her normal follow up appointment. They advised me that Ajax hospital had not contacted them in spite of me suggesting it on numerous occasions and trying to explain why. I was told by Sick Kids to bring her straight to Sick Kids in future because it could have had serious repercussions. I have followed that advice and take my daughter directly to Sick Kids and suggest that you do the same. ????
The nurses on the 3rd floor west wing were wonderful. We were very happy with the professional and caring attention given to my mother during her isolation stay.
I wish i could give them no star, i had the worst experinece here,i waited for 8 hours and i was dying with the pain and there are so many other patients just like me suffering from svere pain and waiting from hours, also that pain wasn’t normal my bladder was full because of infection, they made me feel i should leave this country because of the poor medical system, and the lady at reception she was so rude they don’t know what humanity is, please provide better system for medical emegencies and some docters as well,
While I was waiting, an elder patient on a wheelchair said "it's better to die than come here" lol. Many hours later, I know why that statement was made. Rude front staff (esp the ones who sits inside the office screening ppl), horrible wait time, very slow system. I feel anxious to come here after dealing with the front staff. I miss my Scarborough Hospitals. Too bad, I moved in this area. They need more staff, more doctors and more nurses to run this place. When people in comments refer this to a 3rd world hospital, they are not lying. Emergency department needs major revamping on their methods of care and treatment.
I flew I from BC to help with my fathers care. Unfortunately it’s the same story as when I flew in 6 months ago to help care for my step mother. A complete and utter breakdown in communication from ALL medical staff concerned. I won’t even get started about what I would say is disappointing and dis interested staff. Please understand that I’m not saying all staff are this way but the ones that are really stand out. My problem is with the people who are supposed to help you and your family make very difficult decisions by providing important information. I was told my fathers operation would take approx. 1 1/2 hours. I was taken to a place and told to wait here and the doctor would come out and explain what was done. The doctor was a no show despite me waiting 5 hours to speak with him. The next day I again asked to speak to the doctor because the nurses could answer our questions as to what was done. We were promised he would be paged and asked to speak with us. Again the Dr. Failed to show. The same day the social worker was also a no show to a requested meeting. We saw her on the floor, in fact just 2 rooms away. But she never made it. After reading the reviews from others on this site I’d like to ask the leadership of this hospital, is this good enough for you? Would the situations described by these people be acceptable for YOUR family?
Long wait time…….
Went in for a MRI which my family physician recommended. Must say I was impressed. Went to the MRI department and Irina at the reception desk greeted me and was extremely pleasant. Explained the whole procedure, helped me fill in the appropriate forms as it was my very first time doing a MRI. Very helpful. Keith the MRI technician was superbly helpful and pleasant, here likewise advised me ahead of time it was going to be loud, no doubt it was but it is what it is. Handed me ear plugs for defusing the noise of the machine. I was very grateful to Keith and Irina for the wonderful experience. Great job guys. ????????.
Last spring, I had a broken bone in my foot looked after here. Yes, you have to wait in Emergency - in every single hospital in Ontario. Yes, cases are prioritized according to severity. Doctors and nurses work long hard hours. They come into this profession wanting to help you, but if a hospital has such consistently bad reviews, that is mostly a reflection of the management. It is also a reflection of the provincial Ministry of Health. There are good and bad employees and managers in all businesses. My foot was looked after reasonably promptly and competently in an acceptable length of time on a Saturday afternoon (three to four hours). Thanks to the staff, who work weekends, holidays, overtime, and at all hours of the day for looking after me. I am not in the medical profession, but I appreciate the hard work of those who are.
I had broken my left leg. Fib -Tib ankle fracture. From the ambulance ride to the staff, this was by far my best experience at this hospital. I am extramly thankful. If they had not taken such good care of me, I might not have ever been able to walk. Thank you to all the staff that helped me!
Terrible hospital shortage of staff hardly anyone in the emergency yet going on 3 and half hours of waiting and still waiting
Very disappointing. I come to the emergency because I went through trauma and they gave me seroquel 25mg which is a psychosis medication. I came there for therapy which is hard to get. Most of these hospitals give any pill. It’s a waste of our time. I am not coming here anymore. Atleast, I get some support here in Scarborough they have the proper crisis team and it’s easy to sit and chat rather than give your pills to someone. Anyways hope you all are safe! Had the worst experience!
If I can give them a zero start I would the nurses attitude was disgusting... I took my 5 year old child she waited so patiently for 4 hours and got restless after a while the nurses ignored me and gave me looks when I waited outside the door to ask how long of a wait .... at least be nice and say we don’t know ... rude and disgusting won’t be going back .... ppl please don’t give them donations ... Love the mix lady doctor ... idon’t know her name but I l love you and thank you for being soooo kind to me and my child ????
Most rude and unprofessional triage nurse I've ever seen.
Waited 4 hours for my father, with head trauma to be looked at. Still have yet to be called. Rude staff.
I came here for an appointment on November 11th for a mammogram... WOW, just WOW, it was at 8 am in the morning and waited for 1/2 hour, NO ONE SHOWED UP, the reception area was dark. I went to the security guard and he said maybe its because of Remembrance Day. Then WHY give me an appointment for that day? I have been in Ajax for 26 years now, and never had a good experience there or with Oshawa Hospital. Once Brought my mother in once because she fell (she was in her 80's), was Christmas day. We spent the whole day there, over 10 hours and finally we told them we are leaving... we where hungry, thirsty and tired. That's when they finally showed us the x-rays and she cracked her pelvic bone in 3 places, we left right after that. I know people THINK we have great health care, but we actually don't. At least for the average person. If you are rich or a government worker, you probably have it better. Canada's health care really is bad and getting worse every year, this pandemic just showed us how bad it really is. Such a rich country, yet our government services of any kind are BAD.
Worst emergency ever faced even for simple test like ultra sound or xray they take five hours
Wish I could give this place a 0. Do not take kids here to the ER. They don't care! you can wait hours for nothing!
This is just the latest in times I've come here. Despite telling the triage that it is an ongoing muscular issue, they sent me to xray instead. Xray happened to be flooded. All I was asking for was a refill on a prescription. Great.
Had to deliver at this hospital unexpectedly and the staff here were amazing. Special shout out to Lisa and Tawni for being my cheerleaders during child birth and Dr. Andres for delivering the baby! Precious Review: Had a MRI done here and enjoyed my experience here. The nurses or receptionists at the front were really nice. The technician (I believe her name was Didi) was extremely nice and calming. Going in you don’t know what to expect but she was detailed and kept you in the loop. Even during the MRI I thought I would be lost as to what would be happening but she kept updating me which I really appreciated.
Worst hospital ever. Came in to Emergency at 9:30pm was only taken in at 6:30am. Then waited for the lab to open for 8am for ultrasound and the nurse was supposed to give me water for my appointment for 9am. Literally been here for 12 hrs and have not figured out what's wrong
One of the worst hospitals I could imagine
One star is like complementing this place. It is the probably one of Ontario's worst hospitals. Their customer service is rude and they don't care about their patients. The Ajax hospital should be reported. I was going on a travel and I had to take a Covid -19 test. The person was very rude and strict. I had to wait for more than a week for my results but I still haven't received my test results. When I called the Ontario Health Organization, they said my test wasn't even in the system which meant they threw my test out. They don't take care of people. They also make you sit for 3-4 hours in the waiting room. So from my perspective, I am advising you to never come here.
The nurse recording readings from my newborn did not record the results accurately. Had the numbers been accurate we would not have been discharged. If you can look at the readings for your case, please do so and check for irregularities. You may be exhausted in your stay, but it could keep you out of another emergency. I will not willingly return to this hospital.
What can be said that hasn't already been said? Hands down has to be the worse hospital in the country.
Worst ER in history! Was having breathing issues and only to be told by the doc its all in my "head"!!! Had to force him to order some tests. Go somewhere else!!
Can I give negative stars!! This is the worst hospital you could ever go to or take a family member. I would prefer to die on the side of the road than ever go here again. 4th consecutive horrible experience!!! Do yourself a favour and drive to any other hospital in the world!!
Worst hospital the nurse giving people attitude playing with her hair on her phone one doctor for the entire emergency 7 hours waiting time been here for 3 hours and no saw yet nursehave no clue to what’s happening to me
I went to this hospital three times for my operation and all the nurses and receptionist were very cooperative especially, the doctor, he was nice and kind and answered all my concerned questions with satisfaction and I was taken care of throughout my time being there.
I don't understand all the negative reviews. From what I have read, most of the negative reviews revolve around parking. IMO I understand that parking maybe expensive but you are reviewing a HOSPITAL!!! PLEASE try to keep that in mind when writing a review!!! People base important decisions on reviews and whining about expensive parking might divert someone from making an important life decision. My wife has had two kids in this hospital and the staff have been nothing short of phenomenal. SO while the PARKING might be on the expensive side let me assure you that the rest of the HOSPITAL is fantastic.
I have had 3 different surgeries conducted at this hospital over the last 4 years. In all 3 cases the reception staff, nurses and doctors were very welcoming, polite, professional and effective in the conduct of their duties to prepare me for surgery , to conduct the surgery and to follow-up with me after the surgery has been completed to ensure that I healed up properly. These are really good people , they are doing their best, and I genuinely appreciate all they do for our community here and how they have helped me. I rated this as 4 stars for now, and will provide one constructive comment for improvement that would change the score to 5 stars. This is not a criticism, this is an improvement suggestion. My suggestion is for the planning and conduct of a Training Course on post surgical procedures best materials & practices in bandaging. The team does have some room for improvement in the materials that they have available to them for post surgical bandaging, and would benefit from some systematic training on how to most effectively apply these materials. Please consider this to be a well intended suggestion for improvement, and not a criticism. Equip your hospital team with some higher quality bandaging supplies, and some classroom and hands on training on how best to use these improved materials, and there will be more and more 5 star ratings in your future. Thank You.
I wouldn’t have given even 1 star. Worst hospital I have ever been to. I guess they only have 1 doctor in the emergency department. We waited for 4 hours, they didn't call our name. My 5 years kid was so sick they didn't attend. After 4 hours of waiting when we enquired how long it will be taking. And they said there are still 9 patients ahead of you. They don't understand the meaning of emergency I guess.
When tim hortons pulls out makes you wonder. The druxxys is probably the worst and has least selection I've ever seen. Bring your own food or have a ride. This is my rant as I can't walk far or drive as I have a bad leg and have been stuck waiting with my sick wife for over 6 hrs now as she is treated. Also to the powers at be spend 20 bucks and get a number taker for Er Waite list. Wife could barely walk and had to get up and shuffle seats everytime someone was admitted. They have a row of 10 or 12 seats and thats the waiting line for emerge. Just a weird hospital
If you are ok with waiting 10 hours with a sick toddler and getting even more sick from all the virus infected people waiting with you then be sure to check out this great place. Wish I could rate lower. Went in with 1 sick toddler came out 2 sick adults and even worse child. The level of distain I have for this ER is palpable. To bad there are no audits on our healthcare system.
Current wait times 10+ hrs
Wait time is ridiculous. Waited in the waiting room for 4 hours then waited in another room for over an hour , still waiting to see the doctor but cant be given a time before a doctor can see my mother. Not sure if my mother is having a heart attack or she is fine. Outrageous!!!
First thing I want to say is that quality of care in Emerge is incredibly different from other departments in this hospital. If you are coming to emerge beware of a few things: -Wait times in Emerge are LONG, especially at night. If you need any tests most departments are closed and you'll need to stick it out in emerge until 8am -There is a tent outside for overflow of patients waiting so you may have to sit out in the cold, please dress appropriately -Visitors are not allowed to wait in emerge with you (exceptions depending on circumstance) so expect to be alone -There is no room for physical distancing in waiting rooms so expect to be in close contact with people -There are staffing shortages and it is possible for only 1 doctor to be working all night so be prepared to wait Outside of Emerge I had some incredibly POSITIVE experiences with this hospital. The first doctor I ever dealt with here was Dr. Terterov who is a surgeon. I had a 5 day stay under his care and can say he works incredibly hard and even the nurses mentioned how much overtime he works and how he's "always here". He ensured that I was always kept in the loop, that I understood my diagnosis, and the rationale behind the treatment chosen. He informed me when he consulted with other doctors for help in my diagnosis and was 100% transparent with me. While I did see other inpatients struggle to see their doctors, I saw Dr. Terterov quite often. The next surgeon that I dealt with was Dr. D'Sa. Now let me tell you she is OUTSTANDING and goes above and beyond for her patients. She is someone who communicates very to the point, gives you all the facts, does not waste your time, which is everything that I want in a doctor. Her demeanor is very confident--this is a woman in charge!!! Incredibly inspiring and someone I felt I could trust immediately. She performed my surgery perfectly (which she did admit was difficult) and I genuinely felt like I was in the best hands. Lastly, I want to speak about my experiences with the Nurses in 4East. These nurses are the BEST! I probably interacted with 15 nurses on the floor and I never had a bad experience with any of them. They're compassionate, amazing bedside manner, friendly, and treat you with respect and dignity. Now mind you, respect and dignity is a two way street so BE GOOD TO YOUR NURSES!!! A special thank you to Teresa, who provided a very comforting, almost maternal-like care with entensive knowledge and confidence. Overall this is a good hospital. They care about their patients and they provide amazing care. This hospital should not be judged by just Emerge alone, but those things need to be acknowledged.
Horrible experiance. Waiting for an x-ray and they literally forgot about me in the waiting room. This also happend to the patient that was infront of me. It was not a busy day at all. Terrible. Not recommend, if you can go elsewhere you should. This hospital is a joke.
The nurses in the ER are very rude and unsympathetic. They always seem very out of patient. I came in post surgery on my head and the wait time was over 7 hours, I left after waiting when the sign changed to another 4.5 hours of waiting. I suggest not going to this hospital, and if they can improve one thing, it’s the attitude the nurses have at the emergency.
I was treated in this Ajax ER on Monday November 23, 2020. Please note my name showing up as the posting person is not correct as I am afraid of what all these "nurses" may do to me when I will have to go there next time. Apparently this is my regional hospital and I cannot go anywhere else. My experience is equally horrifying as some of the posting in here. Why Ministry of Health is not reviewing them. My son dropped me in this ER because as per the explanation from the front door person one person only can enter ER, so he had to leave me alone. This was not true as there were so many assisting people in the waiting room. This was around 7 PM. ,Triage person, maybe nurse was very rough, bold, not polite, acting as she was to get rid of me as quickly as she could. I was sitting on the mobile chair as I was not able to make any move on my own. My chair was pushed in location outside , the way all the people trying to pass through were bouncing on me and make me more dizzy and noshes. I was so sick I felt like was just about to vomit and I manage holding the edge of the desk standing up there and holding the wall I knocked and enter the door to Triage room calling for help. What a mistake !!!!. "Nurse" or so called nurse wearing yellow head covering yelled out at me GET OUT OF HERE, DON'T YOU SEE I AM WITH THE PATIENT. GOT BACK AND SIT ON YOUR CHAIR. It took me for ever to manage to get back to my chair. After over 5 hours of waiting on this chair another young women called my name (and other as well). I put my hand up calling " this is me," but she ignored me. She was the one to take all the patients out of the initial waiting room to another, inside waiting rooms. I was calling her several times trying to tell her that she missed me, but she was acting as I was not there although there were very few people in the waiting room. Finally with all my strength next time I saw her walking I yelled "You called me before, why you are not taking me inside". She yelled back at me "WHY YOU NOT WALKING". I said I am sick and so dizzy I am not able. She yelled back to me in front of all people in that initial waiting room " I SAW YOU WALKING ALL OVER". What the treatment. So rude, arrogant, impolite. Where this hospital is taking these people from. Canada takes migrants workers from all over the world to work in farms. I believe if someone like this is looking for work this is the place to be. One can behave like that yelling, be rude, arrogant, rough and bold towards in there not effecting dignity of people. Please note I cannot post this review without rating. Triage does not deserve any star at all. Doctors (two of them) were very nice and exceeded my expectations. I left this hospital at 2: 20 AM on Tuesday, so close to 7.5 hours to get a step forward finding the cause to the problem I had with my health.
I think experiences about this ER varies depending on condition and age. I brought my 2 year old and he was taken care amazingly. We have to stay in the hospital for 2 days and all through out, Doctors and nurses that come to check on him were really attentive and great. I'm not sure if I will have the same treatment but as far as kids are concern, this hospital is great.
Worse hospital in the history of all hospitals! Doctors are next to none, nurses dont care and are SOOOOOO RUDE!!! Screaming at patients for asking questions is such a disgrace! If you dont enjoy helping the elderly and the ill then DON'T BE IN THE MEDICAL FIELD!!!! The fracture clinic only opens ONCE PER WEEK! RIDICULOUS!!! Emergency room is such a waste of time! Parking SUCKS!!! Drive far away and go somewhere else away from this hell hole!!! You have been warned!
WARNING: Unfortunately the lowest score i can give is a 1 star, because if i could i would give 0. i had to visit this hospital on three different occasions, and every occasion was the same story. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE AND STAFF. i came here for a collapsed lung ( pneumo Thorax) the first two times and the doctor just had utter disregard for me as a patient. They had to put a tube through my chest and kept me at the hospital, and when i complained of the pain he mentioned they may have stuck two much of the tube into my body. I went to the hospital today with horrible stomach pains and i had to wait 8 hours ( plus pay for parking) just for him to tell me i have GERD and prescribe me some meds. i told him my concerns and the concerns my family doctor had as he was the one who advised i go to the ER. He would not even wait to let me finish. Just advised he knows what he is doing and he will be responsible for me if it were to worsen. I have decided going forward i will drive an hour away if I need to another hospital just so i can have the peace of mind that concerns have been accounted for. absolutely disgusting.
Sad to see so many negative reviews because this is my go-to hospital. Last year I had severe pain in my stomach, went here and was seen within an hour. They thought it was my apendix but the scan showed that it was fine. The doctor was confident and said it had to be my apendix and we should remove it. I got the surgery and at the time of taking it out, it was swollen and huge! even though the tests didnt show it, the doc knew it was the cause. I'm very lucky it didnt burst! Just this week I went in with a huge swollen lump on my leg. This doctor froze it and unfortunately the freezing did not work and i felt him cutting into me. He worked quickly to drain it and then apologized so much for having to cause me pain in order to try to clean it out. In past experience, alot of doctors seem to become numb to the pain of patients but this doctor was so kind and caring. They put me on home care and my infection is clearing up. From being dropped off at the hospital to being picked up was only an hour and 15 minutes. It was the quickest visit i've ever had! If I ever need another hospital visit, I will be coming back here as a first choice!
I've had 3 children born by c section, partial hysterectomy, hernia repair, gall bladder removal, breast lumpectomy and I have never had a single issue or concern with Ajax staff! Each one of my kids have had to attend emergency for one reason or another with no issues. My husband was on deaths door due to his colon leaking into his body. If it hadn't been for the surgeon, I'd be a widow today. I get sometimes the wait is long in emerg but there is always a reason for this. Everything is based on priority of circumstance. The physicians & nursing staff are the best! With covid-19 they are doing their best. Isn't another hospital I would trust. Thank you Lakeridge Health Ajax!
Long wait time in emergency
My husband was there about 2 weeks ago with a heart problem. And they took very good care of him. And I had a friend went there too about 1 year ago. And they were very successful with finding out the problem. I am so please with the hospital and the doctors there and the staff.
I have been here before had no problem beside some rude staffs. This time my wife was sick she feared she was going to die so I called the ambulance. We have 3 kids under 3 and no help in the middle of the night. She went by herself when they checked it was all normal. The doctor was so rude to her he didn't even ask her why she was here. Asking her why did you take abulance, do you know the cost of it...she said she'll pay it...he said it's $350 would you pay, dont you've anyone. Is it too hard to call for a taxi? she already had shortness of breath...she started crying...he then said to her he was educating her...if the ambulance wasn't called it could've been used to save some one's life who really needed it...I get his point...buT there is a kind way to educate someone..we are not doctors...in some exceptional situations how do we know when to call for abulance....or not. My wife was so heart broken she told me never to call for an ambulance even if she is dying or dead. And she wrote a check for $350 and dropping it to him tomorrow. We are humans we deserve to live and respected ... just because we are brown, black, asian or Muslim doesn't make us undeserving. We work hard pay taxes, if you want to charge for some services charge it...don't put us down like we are undeserving. EVEN ANIMALS ARE TREATED WITH DIGNITY AND COMPASSION.
I wish I could give this place no star. Wife was sick and waited 6 hours. No problem, I understand wait times are bad throughout Ontario. This doesn't explain why the doctor comes in to ask 2 questions and leaves for a phone call for an hour. When I've asked other nurses where the doctor is I've got rude responses "don't know you're just going to have to wait bud".......bud? Who even says that to someone who is coming to you for treatment. No one likes being sick or being in pain. Treat people with respect, if you don't like your job then get another one and fix your attitude. Not like this is a date night location, "hey hun what do you want to do tonight? Let's go to the hospital" no one says that......here's an update as I leave this review, I've asked again where the doctor is......."she is on lunch"........but I see her on the phone.......now I didn't want to leave a review without getting to experience the full service and finish our pleasant trip to the emergency. Guess what?!? our doctor came back. She was great after all but the system sucks.
Agree with all the bad comments. Admitted my mother. She was discharged without properly being treated. When she went in she was able to talk walk etc. Now she is totally bed ridden, cannot talk and they discharged her saying she is 'medically' okay. They couldn't even treat a simple infection and made it worse. Only good thing is the nurses and other staff. They were excellent did their best. I would give 5 start for nurses and staff. But as for the doctors 1 star. We had to go to this hospital because we live in Ajax. I hope this rule changes.
This places deserves a 0 star for how terrible it is. You hear nurses having personal conversations instead of doing their job. They make you wait 6 hours to dismiss you as if you're wasting their time. Husband thought he had a blood clot in his leg which is the only reason we came in the first place. Tell me why it takes over an hour to just see the first nurse. Not to be dramatic but in the time it takes them to see you the first time someone could have died. Then when they do ask why you're there, they don't even want to see it just want you to describe. Paramedics don't want you calling 911 for an ambulance unless absolutely necessary and if you can get someone to drive you. But at least if they were to pick you up you'd be seen right away instead of waiting an obnoxious period for people to just dismiss you. It's ironic because there are signs in the hospital that state "blood clots kill more people than aids, cancer and car accidents combined" but will still brush people off who could potentially have one. Super frustrated, usually go to St Michaels Downtown but we were desperate since the weather was terrible. I now remember why we will NEVER come back.
Have NEVER had a good experience with this hospital. It is the “local” hospital so you don’t have a choice in an emergency EMS situation. My father was just taken in by EMS to this hospital today, and when I asked the EMS attendant if he would be taken to the A&P even she answered “Yes, unfortunately”. I just called the patient inquiry to find out his status, and was greeted by Florence Nightingale’s evil twin sister — Nurse Kratchet. Tried to rush me off the phone, said they would call me with an update. When I pointed out that they neither have my name nor telephone number, the nurse curtly and rudely asked what it was, then hung up on me. I can only hope she is NOT my father’s nurse. HORRIBLE HOSPITAL.
Can't even put into words how terrible the triage and er staff are (not the doctors). I'd rather have succumbed to my illness than have dealt with them. The nurses are rude and incompetent. Avoid this whole place like the plague, trust me
Theeeeeeeeee worst hospital experience since visiting Lakeridge Health Oshawa. I've literally been trying to get my results after this hospital has taken blood and ultrasound tests twice. The receptionist cuts you off before transfering you to the wrong department. I'm pregnant and just looking for answers to simple questions especially after doing the tests and visiting twice and waiting and waiting to hear back form no one. I've been hung up on, transferred to departments that do not help with my concern, waited more than 7-10 business days, attempted to sign up for mychart (cannot finish account setup since I haven't been given a Hospital Registration Pin) which they do not give and just transfers to mychart who doesn't even answer any phone call or message. All I want to know is my pregnancy is viable and how many weeks I am. No one seems to be able to give me a straight answer. What a joke
NICU = fantastic! 5 stars. Labour + Delivery: Terrible, incompetent, zero stars. The Dr was in from another hospital. Had no clue where supplies could be found. Ultrasound was borrowed by someone and they had no idea where it was. The delivery was rushed and they broke my son's collarbone. They then proceeded to collapse his lung with overzealous manual breathing assistance. No explanation given. We found out days later by NICU staff that he had a collapsed lung. My son was in the NICU for a week because this unit (Delivery) misplaced his bloodwork for days. He was in the NICU for a few extra days just because they somehow managed to lose, then later find his bloodwork. The lab is in the same building. My son managed to survive their incompetence. Don't take the same risk. Go elsewhere. If you are forced to deliver here, be respectful but be firm. Advocate for yourself. Deliveries are routine for this staff and they sometimes forget that this event is life changing for you. Ask questions. Ask more questions and stand up for your child and yourself.
Don't come here if you feel ill, you'll just end up worse!
Just had colonoscopy done at the day surgery department. Awesome service ???? From Dr.Konn to the nursing staff, the girl at the front desk to the young guy who screened me when I arrived...everyone was just awesome ???? Great service ???? ????
They've let jokers work as doctors. Wrong information conveyed all the time. Sick kids is a lot better place. Avoid these half baked idiots if you can. The ratings are so low for a reason. Hungry for funding, zero benefits passed on to the community. Nothing has improved.
It is not an hospital for a developed country like Canada. It is shameful. There are no qualified permanent doctors. It is for nurses. They don't care of the patients' desiderata.
Waiting time was too long waited 4 hours before to see a doctor .
A complete mess of a hospital that clearly isn't equipped to handle the demands of the now much larger population of Ajax/Pickering. I came by ambulance but I still had to wait for 8 hours before finally seeing a doctor. Once I did they determined I needed surgery. You would think that would mean admission and a bed but instead I was forced to sit in a chair for TWO NIGHTS in the Emergency department waiting for surgery. I was bleeding into a diaper IN A CHAIR the entire time. When I finally was able to have my surgery I was able to get a bed and I was treated much better by the kind nurses upstairs. It's the Emergency department that scares me. I genuinely think someone could or will eventually die here because of their negligence and incompetence. I was sleeping in a chair and in so much pain I couldn't walk, but when I asked a random nurse if I could please have some water she yelled, 'Do I look like YOUR nurse!?' before walking away. I watched them yell at a woman for 'blocking the walkway' because she was vomiting and crying on the floor. These are not kind or empathetic people. They don't want to help sick people, they're annoyed at them because they don't want to have to actually work. When my Dad came to find me in the Emergency department after I had been taken to have my surgery they told him that I had gone home. He knew that wasn't true because I could barely walk and I didn't have a car: the nurses in Emergency are just so incompetent they can't keep track of patients. On top of that, when he told them I texted him saying I was in surgery, they couldn't even tell him where the OR was. I had to come here because I live in Ajax and it was a genuine emergency but if you can handle the drive, I would go to North York or Scarborough. Anywhere but this hospital. If you don't die in the waiting room, you'll die in the Emergency department waiting for a bed. The nurses probably won't notice if you do.
Terrible service. Checked in with triage then waited for 4 hours with only 1 other person in the waiting room and no one took me in to see doctor.
MY SUGGEST NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL WORST WAITING EVEN NO PATIENT NOT ACCURATE REPORT PLEASE GO TO MARKHAM HOSPITAL OR OTHER
After tri-fracture in my ankle in early January I want to share what a great experience I had in the fracture clinic. Dr. Lobo did surgery to put a plate and 14 screws and it is now on mend and healing normally so I can start walking with physio again. After visiting the fracture clinic several times for follow ups my observations of the entire team was very positive. Desmond is absolutely fabulous and kind, cheers everyone up with his great sense of humour. Lynette is so kind and positive. Dr. Lobo himself is efficient and has a very good bedside manner. Even though patients complain about wait times, this team does their very best. Wait times are poor in most hospitals but it's the people who help everyone that makes the difference. Thank you everyone for all your help and assistance
8 hour wait times. Got there at 2am. I understand covid and understaffing. But this place is a joke.
I was at the hospital after my daughter had a febrile seizure. The doctor that came to see her checked her ears and chest and said that she has an ear infection. I told him that in the past, her ear infections are with high fever for atleast two days and she tugs on them. But he said no she has one. Later, while waiting for her urine sample, the dr.hancock couldnt even remember that he saw my daughter a mere minutes ago and came in with a prescription after the nurse had to tell him that she was his patient. I took my daughter to the family doctor the next day and he checked her ears three times and said no infection. She only had a fever pnce that caused the seizure and nothing after. No meds given! I would steer away from the hospital! And especially that doctor hancock! He needs to retire!
Honestly a terrible hospital. Most people will say so. The representatives on the phone have absolutely 0 social skills and will 100 percent cut you off while talking and hang the phone up on you to take another call. Completely unhelpful and the staff (not including doctors or nurses) are just terrible and are there to collect a paycheque. Also the film department must be non existent or they must be asleep a lot there. 2 days of being put through to film and they let the phone ring out every time. If you can go somewhere, GO somewhere else !!!!!!
Update: after 2 weeks and 3 visits they found a clot. went 3 times and they sent me home with 2 undiagnosed clots. Ultrasound is closed in the evening so if you are dying and need fast diagnosis, you will have to came back in the morning. MRI only available weekdays felt like I am in a grocery store not a hospital. Got admitted and the stuff kept asking me everyday to get the Covid vaccine and they kept trying to force me to take it. Really felt depressed and not in safe hands. Same as the other hospitals in Ontario garbage. Waiting time up to 9 hours just to see a doctor. Rude staff or most of the them. I broke my hands before and stayed home and it healed wrong because I didn’t want to wait the long waiting time. This time went with a note from my doctor which they didn’t even read and ignored. After 5 hours waiting tried to go to my car to drink water and was told that I am not allowed to leave and come back so basically jail. They don’t care about you or your pain, they just care about the big fat cheque. Really disgusting and one day you all will be treated the same way.
We just had our beautiful baby here and the staff were amazing! Everyone was super friendly and knowledgeable. We had the best experience ever and would definitely recommend this hospital to everyone!!!
Some of the nurses are amazing and some (70%) are very rude and make you feels like you entering the border crossing between 2 different countries as they act tough and rude and shows no respect and it seems that they are at the hospital just to get paid only (I think it's very bad when you treat people/patients like that. As patient looks at the nurses like angels but they prove us the opposite of that)
Months ago I had gone to the ER and had a terrible experience leaving the hospital a 1 star review. Since then I have been back in the ER twice and nothing had changed. The nurses there were completely uninterested in helping patients and would spend time chatting amongst themselves instead of doing patient intake in triage. With that said, the doctor's, technicians and nurses in the other wings of the hospital have been nothing but friendly and accommodating and they keep to schedule which is why I am revising my review to 3 star.
My mom was in here for a short while and they took good care of her.
Although the waiting area quickly filled its seats, the staff was efficient and friendly. I felt they took my symptoms seriously and addressed all my issues.
This review is specific to the lactation consultant on staff at Ajax/Pickering. She is the antithesis of what it means to be a nurse. No compassion, dismissive, flippant, and far from helpful. Instead, she finger points, shames, always talks worst-case scenario and the proverbial cherry on top is that she doesn't seem to grasp how to teach a new mother how to breast feed... which is a "small" part of her job. Abhorrent, really.
My wife had a chest pain, came last night to ER at 1 am, and now 10.15 am she is still inside not finish yet, 2 hrs in the waiting room for a Doctor to come and see her. They really don't know what they are doing.
My mom passed away at this hospital because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her . We asked if we can go to another hospital but they gave an excuse saying that there were no beds anywhere which is such a lie . DO NOT GO HERE PLEASE !!!!!!!
The worst hospital I have ever been. Rude and unprofessional nurses in the emergency. Doctors are not that much professional as well. If you could avoid this hospital, please do so... Not recommended at all!! This is not my 2nd time here. Both times in emergency for my baby ( 1 and half years old). Not worth waiting 4/5 hours for the poor service they provide. Ajax/Pickering needs a better hospital
I went to emergency where I was treated as quickly as possible and with respect. The staff were very nice and accommodating despite the fact that they were extremely busy and overworked. They took time to help me with everything, and to explain each medication and test that was given.
I went in for a breathing issue which later turned out to be an issue related to my thyroid gland. That was discovered by another hospital tho..before I went to the other hospital i came to ajax hospital for my breathing problem and got brushed off by just telling me it was anxiety when in fact my thyroid gland was compressing on another gland which made breathing difficult.. also when i was getting my ecg done at this hospital for my breathing problem the nurse thought i was faking it an said i literally just saw you laughing outside in the waiting room how come you didnt have trouble breathing then..like wth? That was so rude honestly..my dad was trying to cheer me up by making me laugh but this nurse here was accusing me of faking it..i hate this place they treat you like a joke dont go here if you love your life
The wait is crazy after being in a car crash with my son we waited 4 hours for him to get checked and other people came and left but he had to sit around in discomfort and no one cares I understand they're busy and have people coming at them from all angles but seriously
DO NOT COME IN WITH MIGRAINE! DRIVE SOMEWHERE ELSE. Ajax hospital offers deplorable patient care. Impersonal and dismissive doctor who couldn't be bothered to even pretend to have a drop of humanity. SLOWEST NURSE ON THE PLANET. Unorganized. Unable to provide patients with a pillow (let alone a bed) even after 3 hours of lying on waiting room floors suffering in pain. Can't say enough about how terrible my experience was.
Worst hospital ever. The nurses are extremely rude. They're are over hundreds of reviews of these nurses. Multiple people complain and they're management has yet to fix this problem. We live in Canada. I can't believe that our health care system is so tarnished.
I want to thank all of the Doctors and Nurses for doing such a thorough job , even when under staffed and still had patience for some of us cranky patients and you did it with a smile on your faces. God bless Sincerely Lee Densmore
BAD ER!!!! WORST. BUT the Labour and Delivery wing is absolutely amazing. They are the best hospital for pregnancy and babies.
From our recent stay: good surgeons, nurses, facilities. Can do better at communication with patients/family (timing, scheduling, medical tips etc.) ER was VERY busy most of the time, could use some extra space for waiting patients. Parking was expensive.
I visited 2 days after visiting Oshawa emergency, where I spent 6 hours and got no results. In 4 hours, the staff at Ajax Lakeridge efficiently managed to register me, assess, examine, run test and take care of my needs with understanding, compassion and supportive care. Thank you.
Helpful and knowledgable staff
Absolutely the worst hospital ever. My mom had a day surgery today and was told that the hospital will give us a call once my mom wakes up to take her home. They did not call us, instead my mom asked the patient next to her if she can use their phone and called us herself. It was already nerve wracking and scary to leave my mom by herself as we were not allowed to go inside the hospital with her due to COVID protocols, the least they could have done is give us a call to let us know how she was and how her surgery went and when we could pick her up. We got no phone call, no updates. We were told that it’ll take 6-8 hours until she is able to go home, past the 8 hour mark were was still no call. It is ridiculous that the patient had to be the one to call. Lakeridge health Ajax/Pickering, do better.
The wait time was very long like 6-8hours in the ER when there was nobody... I was receommended by my doctor to visit a hospital if I needed urgent care for my issue while I had to wait for my appointment. Turns out they were no help at all like they do not care. They gave me a referral but never got a call. My own doctor's referral called me back urgently because they cared. So far it seems the doctors in Ajax don't care about you.
My Mum spent three weeks in this care facility and care is what she received! The overworked staff were always courteous and positive towards Mum and the other patients in her room. Entry through emergency was no picnic but they staff did their best. Unfortunately, our senior population’s needs outweigh the ability to absorb the numbers of people vrs availability of rooms and beds.
I have to admit that my very limited visits to this hospital emergency dept have been very long and stressful. Mostly due to the shortage of Doctors! My reason for this review is thank the staff of the day surgery and the Gynecology Department, I did have an overnight stay and could not have asked for better care from all the staff. Could things improve at all hospitals YES! But we must also give credit where credit is Due!
I would give 0 stars if possible. This is the absolute worst hospital you could ever go to. The doctors don't even give the time of day to you. Everything from the nurse to waiting area is a bad experience. I'm never going back. A poor woman screaming in pain came in and they said wait in line for 2 hours because others came before you.. what??? Also a message to Lakeridge, plz plz fire your male african american nurse, he has a heavy ego and is one the most ill mannered person I've ever met.
We came here for the first time today- 1 week after we sat at Oshawa LHO for 5 1/2 hrs after my Moms family dr-advised her to go to emerg if her antibiotics dont work on an infected toe for an IV anti biotics. Butttt they sent her gome saying it looks good. So now 2 weeks later we are back in emerg with fluid seeping out of Moms leg! We have been here for 3.5 hours so far and Nothing! To make matters worse-Mom has to go the bathroom! Shes 87 , has a walker and cant use any washroom here because toilets are too low and only 1 handle to hold on to! So she wants to leave! I have askes staff if there is ANYWHERE in hospital she could use a handucapped toilet.Answer was bo. Mom wants to leave! Just add to that-triage staff had absolutely no patience, empathy or an once of friendliness to her. And other comments correct- no organized line up for Triage. I know those little numbers cost $$$, but its a small price to pay instead of a staff coming out to yell at lined up peiple to move down a seat as they are in order. Cause when you come to emerg and your not well-you just live playing musical chairs!
Took my son in due to him having a severe food allergy. Treated by nurses it's been 6 hours and the Doctor has yet to see him.
Just spent 7 hours at Ajax Emerg for pneumonia. The place was packed which although can be frustrating it's also expected these days with our health care system so taxed. The issue I had however, was how unfriendly virtually every single was nurse was! They were talking to patients like dirt! I've been a health care professional for 18 years and I have NEVER spoken to even one patient like that! I get that they feel burned out but people are there because they are sick! If those women can't do better than that, they need to find a different place to work. No one deserves to be treated rudely! It will be a cold day in hell before I go back there! The administration at Ajax has a huge issue with those women and they need to fix it!
Nice hospital even though we have to wait, still the doctors are experts
I brought my 11 month old daughter to this hospital via ambulance due to severe vomiting and diarrhea. My daughter vomited all over waiting room floor, as her father ran to the front desk girl to ask for help, she was napping with her head down, without even looking up she just pointed her fingers to where the backet was and continued to sleep. After being covered with vomit and fecal matter it took 8 hours before she was seen. The nurses are extremely rude and hate to do their job. I also had my daughter at this hospital and had complicated pregnancy, came into ER bleeding and triage nurse looked at me annoyed and said to the other nurse, apparently this one is bleeding over here with a smirk on her face. Once I had my daughter via c section we payed for private room and had very rude nurse throw a book at me after I asked her a question about a concern that I had about my baby, she then said well if you took classes you would know. PLEASE don’t waste your time at this hospital, if you can go somewhere else.
Triage nurses and doctors treat you as if you're wasting their time/lying about your symptoms. If possible, go to another hospital.
I've been here a couple of times in the emergency room, the nurses where especially rude they told me in costs the city 500 per registration, only come if it is especially important but they dont understand if I have a problem late night I cant go anywhere else if I am in pain. They put the white patients ahead of you, also they only have one doctor in the ER
If you value your life try going to some other nearby hospital this one. In ER the doctors are hard to find, nurses are extremely rude and ruthless. Good luck to you if you're a south asian or middle eastern. I went there with sharp kidney pain (worst pain ever). I registered with Triage at 8pm and I got called at 11am, can anybody imagine. Between that time I got yelled by the nurses to keep quiet and not to stomp (light couple stomps because of excruciating pain). All what the doctor did was, he prescribed me oxys and recommend me to see my family physician.
#Covid19times: I'm very impressed with the friendliness and kindness expressed by all staff at Ajax Hospital today. Despite the stress brought on by thepandemicc, all of the nurses we encountered today were are so very lovely and gentle with my daughter when we went for testing today. When leaving, our nurse surprised my daughter with a jumbo pink freezie for being such a great patient and my daughter exclaimed, "I LOVE THE HOSPITAL!" So very happy with our experience. Our nurses are heroes, truly making the best out of, -what could've been, an unpleasant experience for my wee one.
Worse hospital ever.If you want somebody to die take them there.
Had my first baby here I loved all the nurses and staff they took care of me and the baby so well. I would like to thank each and every nurse in the labor and delivery department you guys made my visit so comforting.
Nurses were the best! They were attentive and caring. doctors were helpful and kind
Not even worth one star...went in for a ct scan and the ct lady bruised my arm...so severely I was in pain and bruised for days...hospital is dirty...and smells..horrible place... it used to be a good hospital but now..its horrific...and badly managed...
unprofessional staff in ER lack of training do not recommend at all
It’s very sad to see the majority of people leaving reviews like they are at a hotel - this is a hospital, if you had to wait that is because your case is not a priority and there are others who are worse off than you are. Be grateful that you have a place to go and get help when you need it. Thank you to everyone who work at any hospital, as this can be a very thankless job.
Doctor Konn was nice. But his nurse left me shirtless on a bed for over 40 minutes, after I had advertised that I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder (from the same hospital). When I saw his nurse she yelled, “Why are you back?” Umm, I don’t know, you requested me to take time off work, shouldn’t you know? After the visit, I didn’t know where to go, and there she was laughing and joking around with another nurse. I had major anxiety and felt quite uncomfortable the entire time. Doctor Konn’s nurse is unprofessional.
One of the worst hospitals, 6 hrs waiting and no consideration for 80 year old people
Am in the emergency right now. Going on 9 hours. I even had a letter from a neurologist saying I had to go to ER. I came here 3 years ago and saw a young Chinese doctor and he was pompous and arrogant. Came in for kidney stones on December 3 and had another Chinese doctor. Same attitude. No compassion and empathy and no care attitudes. A follow up scan for kidneys I had a non Chinese doctor and he was really really good. I had a stroke and came in today I had the unfortunate experience of having2 Chinese doctors. What a complete disaster. I am not prejudice even though it sounds like it. It’s just that this hospital has a lot of doctors with NO people skills and they are ALL Chinese. The nurses are absolutely wonderful though.
Lakeridge health system is biggotry and laziness plus most of the staff have bipolar disorders someone should really look into this.
Extremely rude nurses
I can understand long wait times in the emergency room. However, I had an appointment with their Fracture Clinic and a couple days before they call out of no where and leave me a voicemail saying the changed it. After I get there, 30 minutes after my appointment time they come out and say "oops sorry they forgot to give me the pink sheet". For one of my first visits to this hospital, I saw a level of unprofessionalism I couldn't believe.
If there was a negative I would give it. The staff is unbelievably rude. Its unfortunate the pay doesn't reflect the work done, then perhaps they'd consider being human. Never again
Ajax hospital is actually not as bad as people say it is . Most of you people that have been leaving negative reviews are disgusting. If the triage nurse felt that your situation was an absolute emergency then you would’ve been looked at almost immediately or would’ve been put on priority where you would have been looked at before most of the other people in the waiting area. Everytime I have gone to the emergency room whether it was in an ambulance or somebody took me, I was always looked at almost instantly. I have never sat in the emergency room for 10 hours or longer. This hospital has saved my life several times and I am extremely grateful for that. Twice for anaphylactic shock and once for an internal intestinal haemorrhage where I was losing blood at a rapid pace. I was hospitalized for five days. Given the nature of the severity of my situation I was also given a private room. The care I received was absolutely immaculate. Perhaps the wait times would not be long in there if people did not go in there for non-emergency reasons. Just because your kid fell off a bike and scratched their knee or threw up because they ate something bad or has a sneeze or slight cough is not an emergency. That’s a doctors visit or a walking clinic visit. Reasons like that back up the system. Oh and for those of you that complain that you got an ambulance bill in the mail for a few hundred dollars you need to shut up and deal with it. They will only bill you if they feel your call wasn’t for a life-threatening reason. If it’s for a real emergency that fee is wavered. An ambulance is used for emergencies not for a taxi ride to the hospital. All you people complaining stop, because at least your healthcare is free. I guarantee if you had to pay to go to the hospital like in the USA there would be no backlog in the emergency rooms here. Maybe then people would use their common sense and discretion whether or not their situation is an emergency. Also the hospital is not a place to go to for the common cold. And for those of you that say you had horrible treatment or all they gave you was an Advil or Tylenol or tums or whatever it was than sent you home. You obviously didn’t die since you were able to make a horrible review. Also for those of you that do abuse the system and go to the hospital for non-emergency reasons, are very selfish.
I've come to this hospital for serious medical issues twice and both times I was turned away at the ER with the recommendation to 'take a Tylenol' until I eventually needed EMERGENCY surgery. If the ER doctors did their jobs the first time around instead of trying to get patients out as quickly as possible, they'd actually save time. Instead they send home sick patients with Advil or Tylenol until it progresses to something serious because they're lazy. 'Let's see how it progresses' is not a diagnosis. The walk-in-clinic's in Ajax have actually diagnosed me more often than this poverty hospital. I'm a proactive patient so when I see the warning signs of something serious, I go to the ER. Unfortunately, that isn't gonna save my life because the doctors at Lakeridge won't treat you unless you're dead or on your way there. Please go to literally any other hospital in the Toronto Area before this one, you'll be grateful for it.
