As you know, we do not usually bother to place evaluations when they are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Hospital is included in the category of Hospital.
My son in law went in tonight at about 8 with no feeling in his face can't talk, possibly having a stroke and is still sitting in the waiting room and was told he might be seen by midnight. I was under the impression that even the slighted possibility of a stroke or heart attack was a major thing but I guess not according to our lovely hospital here in town.
Was in for a colonoscopy Oct. 12. From the moment I walked in the front door and until I was discharged, I was treated with friendly efficiency. Thanks to all the staff for your care and caring.
I recently rushed my brother to the ER, he was ineed of stitches above his eye and on his leg. We sat in the ER waiting room for 8 hours before the nurse/doctors even looked at him. He was gushing blood, basically making a pool on his mother's and fathers lap. By the time he went in to get stitches, the nurses/doctor's "forgot" to freeze the area before putting in the stitches. They used a fishing hook and messed up completely. I don't recommend this hospital at all, it is not professional and cannot be taken seriously.
My 2 year old Son and his Mother spent 5 hours in the waiting room watching others get admitted while he had a 40°C temperature...he wasn't seen before they left at 0130 hours and went to clinic the next day. His Mother was asked when they arrived why she didn't try Tylenol before coming. This isn't the first time we've come and left because they're so slow and it's more comfortable at home.
Terrible experience. Super long wait times and expensive parking. Had to wait for almost 5hrs in ER and still no response.
Slow staff, province should stop funding lakeridge Bowmanville, close it down.
Went here despite the ratings and regretted it as I thought I would. Place is pretty grungy. The reception nurse is extremely slow. I went here showing signs of pancreatitis and they gave me an ultrasound for a week later?? Go to a different hospital!
This is the perfect hospital to go to if you want to be stigmatized, misdiagnosed or want to develop life-altering effects due to surgical "complications"
Compassionate and professional, top shelf!
Waited 5 hrs with my Dad who showed signs of stroke....asked when we could see a doctor told no idea when he gets here. Asked if i shoukd take him to another hospital that has doctors and was told maybe. Not enough chairs i was left sitting on a floor i suffer from back problems...UNREAL we left and went to another hospital
Arrived at the Emergency Department at 1:15 pm on a Wednesday afternoon. Talked to the triage nurse about my symptoms - stiff neck, a 6-day long headache that had escalated to the worst I'd ever had, high fever, extreme lethargy, high sensitivity to light and noise, mental fog/dizziness, and chills. She then asked if my throat hurt (it was just beginning to, so I agreed), and she immediately, with a dismissive tone, said "So... Flu." I'm sorry, I guess I missed the part where the flu started with a slowly escalating headache and took 6 days to work into other symptoms? I proceeded to wait 4 hours to not be seen in a side room (an overcrowded, poorly furnished one at that). Since the nurse dismissed me as a case of the flu, I was not considered high priority, and they didn't see the bigger picture (severe headache/stiff neck are often associated with meningitis). I sat the whole time with my head in my hands, trying to block out as much noise and sound as possible. I watched people who showed up after me - people whistling, playing games on their phones, making jokes with friends they had along for moral support - go before me, even though I was barely even able to move. I eventually had to go sit in the hallway because some of the other people waiting got to be unruly (please, for Pete's sake, don't use speaker phone in the middle of a hospital waiting room...) and, finally, had to leave, without ever having been seen, to get my son from daycare. Before I left, I tried to ask the receptionist if I could get any sort of estimate on how much longer I had to wait, or when a good time to come back would be - the middle of the night wasn't out of bounds for me - and she was very rude as well, offering me no help to go on. I left feeling incredibly undervalued, and I'll never come back to the Emergency Department here unless I have literally no choice. By the time I was able to get in with my doctor the following day, I had a fever of 103 and my throat had all but swollen shut. My doctor confirmed viral meningitis. The earlier diagnosis would have definitely led to less overall suffering for me, and would also likely have resulted in a better recovery time. This should go without saying, but I had an awful experience here and would not recommend the ED here to anyone.
I was in and out in no time! It was one of the fastest experiences I had. And when I forgot my health card the second day I wound up in emerge they found my file so I wouldn't have to be charged! However it took 2 visits for the doctor to really listen to what I was going through and figure out how to help me and send me to someone else who can help. It would have been perfect if I was just listened to a little better honestly. Great clean hospital though with very friendly staff. Very well organized. Would definitely recommend. Just make sure you're assertive.
Never had a bad experience here. Better than Oshawa by far
Treat their patients like numbers. Due to covid restrictions I was forced to send my father via ambulance alone, he's 72, has dimentia, and had pneumonia at the time. I sent him with a document explaining that I was his medical POA so that all correspondence and news about his condition should go to me. During his stay, he wasn't given a hospital bed, and he was deprived of all of his critical medications including his anti seizure and painkillers. He was released with a bed sore and was in extreme pain due to his missed doses. There's no communication from the doctors about the conditions of your loved ones unless it is constantly insisted upon and even then it's condescending and vague. Ive had this kind of encounter with a few doctors in the Bowmanville emergency room.
So I took my mom to the bowmanville hospital for her eye laser treatment.. and they told her it would be about 1/2 hour wait.. the nurses and doctors are friendly, and know what they're doing, which is what I gave them at least 2 starts for.. this is where it goes wrong though.. so we went to the cafeteria.. I just had like a 20 min fight with the cafeteria worker cuz I ordered poutine and she took my money and made the fries before telling me there was no gravy.. then tried to refund me only the gravy and cheese and make me still pay for the fries.. I didnt order fries, I dont like fries by themselves. I should have been refunded the entire price of the poutine.. she literally got rude with me about it too.. I would never even dream of treating a customer like this...
Horrible experience. Staff were very rude (except 2 who were nice), waited 4+ hours in a literal bathroom-- the emergency waiting room is a big bathroom that was at least 28 degrees if not hotter, a drain in the middle of the room, bathroom tiles on the walls, dimly lit, zero social distancing with chairs, it was gross. They called maybe one person every hour if that. It felt more like what you see in prison TV shows than what a hospital should be. Just nasty! Never seen a hospital like this in my entire life.
During this date wear a mask and exchange for clean one on arrival. Waiting room a bit tight . I have always been treated well . Very nice people , doing a trying job . Empathy contagious .
Great staff. Tired of seeing complaints from people in emerg who felt like their boo-boos should constitute an emergency for the entire hospital. The reality behind delays is that there's people in far worse shape than you, so suck it up and be glad you're still apparently well enough to login to Google and post a complaint while someone else might be dying.
Fantastic experience- wonderful people and fast, professional and safe! Thanks to every member who proficiently took care of me today!!!!
Expect to wait 5-9 hours (no joke) even if you're experiencing extreme pain. Been here since 9:30 and it's 3:30 haven't heard a word from anyone, people with less conditions get admitted before others. Everytime we come a older lady at the registration desk is always rude and disrespectful to everyone, along with the nurses that are rude and snobby when asked a simple question. Disgusting people and worse attitudes.
Came in with swollen arm. Bursititus in the elbow. Had an iv installed and left in for the night for when i had to come the next day. Was told by doctors i would have to.wait long as ive all ready been here. The antibiotics have to be administered within 24 hea. So i leave work and have been sitting in the watining room for 2 hrs. Go somewhere else. The registration nurse is no help and ignorant. All i see is nurses and doctors standing around chatting.
Some of the ER nurses acted as if they hated their jobs. Extremely rude to patients, commenting how most of the patients were faking, got frustrated and upset when a patient with paralysis in her arm couldn't straighten out her hand. The long wait was expected of course but they overall made the experience even more miserable than it should've been with the attitude.
I was there with my 9 month old, we went to the emergency because he was vomiting and spinning his head. We have to wait in a waiting room for more than an hour with a kid. Kids and elderly people should give priority because if something happen to them because of there negligence who gonna be responsible. This is not emergency is for. Worst
Just had surgery at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville yesterday. EVERYONE was so compassionate and understanding. They made everything very so comfortable. Thank you so much!
I was there for my gastroscopy and all I can tell is all the way from the ladies at the front desk to the nurses, the doctors and the entire team were super amazing, kind, courteous & knew exactly their job.I was nervous & skeptical but to my surprise the procedure was painless and I was out in no time. Was extremely well taken care of.Thankyou to the entire staff & team at lakeridge health,Boemanville.Appreciate it!:-)
I have never been to any emergency department where the Registration desk person goes for a break and no one comes in to cover the shift. In a normal office setting people take turns for breaks so that SOMEONE is always there so I don't understand why this is acceptable in a hospital setting where people come for EMERGENCY. We've been waiting for 4 hours now and still have not seen a doctor. A person could literally collapse and they won't even know coz no one check ups on you and you are not allowed to leave the cubicle due to covid. This is the hospital to go if you wish to suffer a slow and painful death.
They make you wait while I can see them every time I walk past the window chattting. Your staff need to be replaced or retrained that here job isn't talking about your vacation and making old people cry they have been waiting so long and hurt . Shame on you emergency staff
Okay hospital, needs to be renovated as it as aging rapidly. Nurses are pretty kind, but some of them are fairly rude.
Went in with an inch gash in my finger, triage nurse looked pretty concerned by it, as expected since it's deep. Sat in the waiting room for two hours. Finally brought in the doctor didn't want to stitch it because I held it long enough to stop the bleeding... Tried giving me some extended reason why she didn't want to as the "bleeding" stopped. I left with a still gushing finger.... Thanks Lakeridge I knew I should have just did it myself ????
The only reason I received timely care is because I was here at 530am. All I've heard all day is complaints from staff to each others (standing around talking while patients wait for care) or the triage nurse be extremely rude and short with everyone in the past 2.5 hours. I know it's a hard job... but I'm definately not impressed with their attitudes and treatment towards those who deserve respect and kindness.
We were helped promptly and staff were great and very helpful
What can I say it's a Hospital... It has come in handy over the years and the staff are friendly enough consideing how busy it can get at times. Just happy we have a place closer then Oshawa.
Tues. June 29, 2021 Today I attended the emergency room of Bowmanville hospital at about 10:30AM. After I was brought into the treatment room, I noticed the Dr. was looking at me a couple of times as he moved about the room. Having seen this behavior before, I feel Durham Drs have some kind of grudge against me. At this point, I put my cell camera on. When he finished with the patient next to me, he began to behave differently. Seemed he wanted to do something ‘else’ instead of attending to me. I watched as he was brought files from the front of the room, out of my sight, by one or two nurses. All the while I had been hearing him speaking to the patients. Now, it was as if he was ‘gone’. Nurses were moving about, but not assisting any Drs. I walked out into the room and not a dr in sight. I asked, “Do you have any drs here” A nurse told me they were all attending an “emergency”, up the hall. Ah OK. I know I’m not imaging this now. I walk out to the hall, nothing exciting going on here. I continue to walk down the hall and a nurse loudly asks where I am going and what I am looking for. I said it’s ok I’ll find it. Just then the Dr, who is supposedly dealing with an emergency, whips a curtain across the door, but not fast enough to prevent me from seeing him at a small desk. So this is deliberate, and the purpose is to prevent me from getting medical attention. Why would they do that? I am in severe pain, can hardly walk, and I came here for help. I don’t understand, I don’t know any of these people, Ok I’ll leave if that’s what you want. You obviously don’t intend to look after me. When I got to my car a nurse came out and said, “Sir, are you leaving?’ I said, “yes, I am, you don’t have any doctors” Oh no sir, we have one, it was the other one that is helping with the emergency” I replied, “you people can’t decide what lies you’re telling, I was told ALL the drs were attending to the emergency” I left. I wish you had quartered your stars, seems like there is a problem at this hospital. ATTENTION BOWMANVILLE!!!!!!
Waited 5 hours with severe road rash and peeling skin on my hands, got me to wash my own hands and told me to put Polysporin on it and no pain medication. Didn't even give me gaus to cover up, I had better service from the ambulance that brought me
I have never spent less than 5 hours waiting here. It is in desperate need of updating and triple the staff. We should be embarrassed that it's this neglected. The staff are fine it's the wait times that are criminal.
Recently went there the other day with pains in my chest and breathing stuff was ok at best some nurses need to be more polite doctor said I have nothing wrong but to take Advil and I'd be fine but I'm in more pain than ever most likely going to a hospital in Oshawa. Never go to Bowmanville if don't have something broken or bleeding out.
I don't normally write reviews . However after the experience I had, I felt I must share. Yesterday I had day surgery at this hospital. I was nervous and scared, very upset I could not bring in a support person. From the moment I walked in, every staff member was wonderful. I'm not exaggerating, seriously every staff member I saw either was smiling or smiled when they looked at me. There ended up being an emergency, so my operation got pushed up a little. The staff was wonderful and accommodating. The nurses were great, the doctor/ surgeon, and the anesthesiologist were wonderful. Spoke to me like a person, we're kind, joked with me and laughed. I've had a few surgeries and I must say I never felt so comfortable in the operating room before. Thank you Bowmanville hospital I appreciate all that you did.
FINAL UPDATE: Final Diagnosis came from her family doctor after waiting weeks for an MRI without an emergency order and it was found that she had torn numerous ligaments in her hip and lower back. She was ordered to walk with a came so to not damage the ligaments and tissues further. She required medication for severe inflammation and physiotherapy for 3 weeks to help start rehabilitating the damage done. UPDATE: AVOID UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. PATHETIC AND APPALLING BEHAVIOUR!! Don't put your faith in the staff here. We were turned away from further care at Bowmanville Hospital Emergency department because the doctor felt my partner was faking her pain. We waited 4 hours on a second visit to the emergency department after being there just 2 days prior for the same issue. This time they did an ultrasound, it showed nothing; they then did an x-ray (because the ultrasound was the WRONG PROCEDURE that they booked on the first visit), which also did not show anything; the doctor then suggested that she get an MRI but refused to book her an appointment or give her a recommendation for one because he couldn't see anything that was causing her the pain she was experiencing so he DIDN'T BELIEVE HER and FIGURED SHE WAS FAKING the injury. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, they attempted to give her a needle without disclosing what it contained, when she asked what it was, she was told that it was NAPROXEN. She is ALLERGIC TO NAPROXEN and it was ON HER FILE, she was even wearing a HOSPITAL BAND DECLARING AN ALLERGY to the drug!! THAT IS DAMN NEAR MALPRACTICE!!!! Thank goodness she asked! The staff here almost seriously harmed my partner and had the nerve to accuse her of making a false claim for help! This is appalling behaviour that I do not expect from our health professionals and it makes me sick to think of how many others they have turned away or harmed Verdict: I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL TO MY DYING ENEMIES!! PREVIOUS REVIEW: (2 STARS) The majority of the staff are friendly but seen rather sparse; the hospital seems to be understaffed as it always takes a lot of time to be seen by a doctor or nurse. The emergency department is always busy and typically slow; you can expect to spend anywhere from 3-6 hours before seeing a doctor. Typically the emergency department is an all day event though as I have spent more than 6 hours there on a quite few occasions, including the most recent visit where my partner could not walk due to an unknown hip injury and was in immense pain; that was an all night visit right up until the Sun rose the next day. The staff did not see urgency in the fact that my partner was unable to walk on her own and was in immense pain, which was quite clear as she was in tears for most of the visit. After being seen, we were sent on our way with an appointment to get an ultrasound done on her hip. We now await the next appointment. If it's not a critical matter, it's best you wait to see your family doctor as you will spend just as much time waiting for your appointment to come as you will sitting in the waiting room of the emergency department. It does not seem the staff understand the patients needs; they claim to see people on an urgency scale but had my partner walk on her own feet while in immense amount of debilitating pain and left her to wait for 7 hours while people with colds were seen before her. Verdict: Be sure there are no other options for care, otherwise be prepared to wait...and don't expect any special treatment for pain.
Waiting over an hour for simple bloodwork.
Thanks to the ladies who took care of me tonight and stitched up my face. Clean and professional environment!
I had cataract surgery at this hospital on Oct. 16 performed by Dr. Koristone. The process was more streamlined than it was a few years ago for example no hospital gowns, no sticky heart monitor pads etc. Was given a very stort acting anacetic that caused no residual drowsiness and was allowed to walk out instead of being pushed in a wheelchair. How very fortunate we are to have this available on our OHIP! During my internet research I came across many private eye clinics that charge about $3000 per eye and do the procedure with only numbing eye drops and the offer of a Valiam. Oh some of them offer you a teddy bear or rubber balls to squeeze while the Doc doing the op explains what he is doing in a calming voice. No thanks: I want the Doctor to concentrate on his job while I’m somewhere else! And that is exactly what I got at this hospital. Many thanks for a job well done!!
I would love to give them no stars if possible..... PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL. Dr. Tahir (I believe is how you spell it), is absolutely horrible. This woman should NOT have her medical licence. Her bed side manners and her compassion are atrocious; to be frank, non existent. She put me under to realign my broken wrist and refused to do X-rays post procedure to be sure it was in place. My mother asked her multiple times, and has other witnesses to Dr. Tahir openly refusing to do what protocol states for broken bones. Also placed a splint in the wrong area which caused more damage to my wrist in the end.... 5 days later, I had a check up at the fracture clinic in Oshawa - just to find out my badly broken radius isn’t in place... so I had to have my hand frozen (which doesn’t help with pain), and pulled in every which direction for over 20 seconds by 4 doctors/nurses, to snap it back into place. The staff at Oshawa fracture clinic were disgusted with my “treatment” and “care” of my injury by Bowmanville staff. Appalled. I waited over 5 hours to be seen at bowmanville (please keep in mind, I was in a car wreck that led to me being here) with a severely broken wrist and discomfort all over from being hit head on, and discharged over 7 hours later. No pain meds. No concussion protocol.. No info on the injury itself.. No X-rays to be sure it was in place... After a traumatizing car accident, I did not need a traumatizing hospital experience. People... Save your time and sanity, go to Oshawa or Ajax/Pickering. SERIOUSLY. Don’t go here. I will be filing a formal complaint against Dr. Tahir and her medical staff now that my injuries are healing for failing to follow protocol and allowing patients to leave the hospital in worse condition than they came in. My witnesses will also be submitting complaints on my behalf.
If I could give 0 stars I would staff has no work ethic show no respect and the doctors are clueless no good treatment is ever done at this hospital do yourself a favor and run before they make you worse
I was hesitant to go to bowmanville er because of the ratings but the urgency of my situation left me with no choice. I'm glad I went there. Yes the wait time was long but everyone I have dealt with about 8 medical staff were friendly and helpful. I am very thankful for their hard work...I think they are certainly underappreciated. C.Rouessart
Not impressed with this hospital AT ALL. I went in on a Monday morning with cramping that was happening overnight (I was 13 weeks pregnant at the time) and was very concerned. We were put though pretty fast. HOWEVER, the wait time while in a room in emergency was RIDICULOUS considering they were not even busy. The nurses station was right next to where I was put and they did NOTHING except gossip about overtime and other people who worked at the hospital. VERY unprofessional. I was finally asked to do a Urine test which came back fine and then gave a bedside ultrasound to ensure baby was OK. (it was) I was then sent home because I had an appointment with my family doctor the next day. They told me NOTHING on what it could have been like MAYBE constipation?! these words never came out of their mouth. They then said they would send my records to my family doctor. I am not being informed that they sent my urine test but said an ultrasound was NEVER done. My family doctor suggested that maybe this is because it was done bedside and no report was generated, fair. HOWEVER to say an ultrasound was NEVER done is completely incorrect. ALSO every time someone came into the room they had information wrong like how far along I was in my pregnancy....... Total B.S!!!!
If you are elderly, pregnant or with a small baby then do not go to this hospital for emergencies.
Wouldn't even give this hospital 1 star. Was treated awful by the nurses, because I had gone to this emergency department 2 days in a row, because I was not getting better only worse. Signed myself out because of the unprofessional behavior from the staff. Ended up going to Humber River Hospital in Toronto. Had to have emergency surgery for bowel obstruction and spent 3 days in hospital. Thanks for nothing.
HORRIBLE. I understand hospitals are busy and I understand the staff is probably under paid and 100% mistreated by patients. You chose this field of work. Have respect for patients, treat them like they have a right to be here and concerned about their own health. We arrived at 11 and its 3:30. Individual has clear broken arm and has not been asked anything, children with gashes on their heads have been sitting here for hours! When we arrived there was two people....in this amount if time four people have been called and not one of those people were the children or seniors that got here first! When asking simple EXTREMLY polite questions, because I understand dealing with people in the human services field is hard....they were nasty to me. The woman in emergency room are horrible. I dont care if you had a bad day we are here with a broken arm our day isnt pleasant either. This is your JOB.... dont cry us a river for your field of choice and dont be ignorant to those who are beyond polite. So BOMANVILLE hospital is under staffed and those who are present are nasty, horribly organised and I wouldnt want to come here even if my life was in jeporady. I have been in hospitals many times and multiple locations....I have NEVER been so disappointed
Lakeridge health is committing insurance fraud. When they sent me my ambulance invoice, I noticed they charged OHIP for x-rays and multiple cat scans I did not receive.
Apparently losing consciousness is not an emergency. First off, the staff were all very pleasant and professional, I have nothing bad to say about how I was treated in that regard. We waited about 4 and half hours in total. 40 minutes to see the triage nurse and the remainder in the waiting room. Long wait times are (unfortunately) expected because of under staffing, which is present in any hospital. So, again, this was fine. Now where my problem starts is when I saw the doctor I was told they couldn't help me and they didn't want to "waste my time with tests because they usually come back normal". Well you just wasted 4.5 hours of my time to tell me you weren't going to do anything for me. Now let's be clear, I was recently given a diagnosis of IBS from my family doctor (I don't agree with him, but ok) but what I came in for was a loss of consciousness, extreme muscle weakness, dizziness and fatigue. The doctor kept attributing everything to my IBS. When I asked why IBS would cause the aforementioned symptoms, she said "well that could be from stress". Are you kidding me? I left the ER in tears because yet again, the healthcare system has failed. So if you unexplainably black out, don't worry, it's probably just stress!
Came in with my wife at 1 30 in the morning and it's now 4:13 am and we're still waiting for blood work they told us 20-30 minutes.... Ha what a joke treated like a piece of garbage we are basically a lost cause... Won't be coming back here , very unprofessional
I fell down my stairs at home and ended up having to call an ambulance to transport me to the hospital (bowmanville). I had a severe panic attack when this happened and having to go to the hospital alone made this worse. I knew something was seriously wrong with my back. When I arrived at the hospital I was put into a wheelchair and wheeled out to emerg where you wait to be called in...I was still crying in pain at this point. After 30 minutes I was called by the nurse to come in, I told her I couldn’t walk and she wheeled me into the emerg curtained in waiting spot. When she wheeled me in the room she told me I had to get out of the wheelchair and into another chair in the room. I asked for her help and he response was “I’ll try and help you up”. With my back still in excruciating pain I was forced into another chair. (I am uncomfortable to argue with people in a public setting). I then waited an hour when the doctor came in. She was considerate and brought me pain medication right away until my X-rays. Once the doctor left I was then met with the same nurse who handed me a piece of paper and told me to walk myself down the hall to X-rays. After my X-rays were done (walking back and fourth) I was sat down in another area. The same doctor came in and said with what seemed like complete shock “your X-rays came back very bad and you should not be walking let alone sitting up, someone get her a gurney!” I was in another state of panic as I had just walked around so much. She then told me I had to get a cat scan which came back as a fractured vertebrae in my back. Maybe the nurses need to take every patient that comes in seriously and not just assume when someone has back pain that they are lying. It was honestly one of the worst experiences of my life.
Horrible experience! Can’t imagine the staff have no feelings (forget about empathy). Staff that was consistently slacking off.. (honestly it felt like slacking off is one of the job requirements or a work culture at this place). Let me share something rational at ER which explains the illogical process delays - one computer (step 1) to get coupon then (2) triage and then (3) registration (which is a complete waste of time and taxpayers money, as he/she would ask to confirm address/phone number and the code of health card!) and btw this person will have no clue about anything that you ask and they won’t even be able to locate you in the system if you come back to ask them something! then comes the interesting part - waiting game.. then you go and wait in a box room (talk about social distancing!) then you just wait with some people in pain and agony and nurse will come almost on hourly basis to scream or whisper a name (per your luck) and you better be lucky to be there not in bathroom (or out), else you will come back and ask the nurse about the status and they will say whatever thought comes in their mind (like, please wait and we will call your name), then you wait.. we waited for 4 1/2 hours on a weekday afternoon.. !
Everyone was amazing and so kind. Had laughs with the nurses and one did the best job on taking my blood. Im terrified and i didnt feel a thing. The reason for the 4 stars is becauae there was one nurse giving this poor mom a hard time. A mom who had to bring her lil baby in to a hospital during covid. She was scared and crying and so was the baby. I know they are under alot of pressure but this woman did nothing wrong and did not deserve that treatment. But everyone else was amazing!!! Even listened to a doctor calm a young girl down who was scared to be in hospital on her own. You guys are amazing. Thank you so much.
Lakeridge Health Bowmanville and we find this hospital not so congested. Currently escorting a friend for eye surgery. Strict Covid protocol; Escorts have to wait outside. However, patient escorts should be allowed in the waiting room in case something goes wrong. It is also freezing outside...
I'll never come back to this hospital, rude staff rude nurses and the doctors are just an assholds.
Unfortunately taken here due to a car accident. Due to potential injuries suspected had Cat Scan & X-rays to neck & back. Triage nurse (Ashley or Amy?) unprofessional. On a stretcher in a semi-sitting position with a cervical collar on, identified slipping down (after being there for over 2 hrs) and this "nurse" doesn't identify what she is going to do, and hits control to lower sitting position causing me to yell in pain. Wanted to pull on upper body, where suspected injuries are, obviously I did not want force applied to the area. She then claimed I was being rude. Spent 6+ hrs there. Although people involved in moving me to and in CT / X-ray were nice, had to wait 4+ hrs before taken there. Told CT / X-ray calls emerge/triage when ready, after 3 hrs emerge decided to call them. Avoid place. Unprofessional and excessive time. Obviously reading other reviews nothing has changed or follow-up with peoples concerns / experience and brings into question the management of this hospital. Update (Jan 2020) - After sending an email to Patient Experience, they did reach out to follow-up and asked for further details. Time will show if any improvements.
Doctor playing around they don’t care about the emergency The management has to be changed or retire the all the doctor in Bowmanville hospital
Took my daughter to the hospital. Long wait time (yes it is a hospital, it is to be expected) Not very happy with the doctor that was there. Will make a complaint to lakeside health in due time.
Terrible experince. Don't waste your time at Lakeridge Bowmanville. If you want results go to Lakeridge Oshawa. I came into Lakeridge Bowmanville with my knee being twice its usual size and in pain only to wait for hours in the waiting room and being called in finally to have a doctor tell me that they aren't able to do anything because they are unprepared for this sort of situation. She told me to take an Advil and rest my knee. I wasn't happy with what she said so the next morning I went to Lakeridge Oshawa where I waited about 20 mins before they called me in and made me an appointment to get an MRI. They even put me on the urgent list because they saw how much pain I was in and told me my knee needed immediate attention. From this experience I will never go back to Lakeridge Bowmanville again.
Ultrasound staff are horrible. DO NOT go here if you're pregnant and need an ultrasound. Should have looked elsewhere when we first saw the ratings of this hospital.
I took an unexpected (and unconscious) ride to the ER one late evening and I was impressed and thrilled about how I was cared for. All of the staff that I encountered were attentive, engaged, personable and I did not have any long waits for anything. A few of the staff made me laugh. Bless the Transport fellow and the charming young lady in the CT scan unit. I was whisked off for multiple tests. The results came back quickly and I had two visits from a very helpful doctor that covered all the bases. I spend the night. I called for assistance once in the night and a nurse was by my side in 30 seconds. Could not have asked for better care.
Great staff and friendly, they were very helpful!????
you'll die before you get treated in emerg.
Staff place themselves on a pedestal, thinking they are above everyone else. Extremely arrogant, not to mention slow
I have been in bowmanville hospital 10 times since March 2021 and every time taken by ambulance.I have never had a bad experience with the drs or nurses. I have anxiety and panic attacks . Also high blood pressure and heart issues.Everytime they have taken the best care of me and always friendly. I can't thank them enough for what they due but they sure deserve alot more. They need to know how great they are for doing what they do. Thank you so much
Dec. 19/18. I am so upset with the triage staff at Bowmanville Hospital . I went there with my husband 2 1/2 weeks after emergency open heart surgery. No one cared about his discomfort or what sitting in the straight back chairs was like for him. I told them he was becoming more and more uncomfortable after the first hour and a half waiting. He was taken in for an EkG for about 10 minutes. I was told I could not go inside with him even though I’m his care giver and his ears. They won’t even listen. The person behind the first desk is just rude and completely uncaring toward a patients discomfort. The blood pressure person was nice until after a 90 minute wait I told them both how uncomfortable he was becoming. We walked out after 2 hours and went to A hospital. (Centenary) We have had good results at Bowmanville before this but I have to say the two staff on December 19th need to find a job not with the public. We totally understand that emergencies could come in during this time BUT good staff would tell people waiting that it may be a few hours. After my husbands past month of critical heart issues we felt he might at the least have been offered a stretcher to lie down. The other patients and people waiting were equally upset by the women on the desks this morning. Helen
Best service of group of hospitals.
I recently had general surgery and the nurses and doctors were wonderful. I was very scared of the surgery and they assured me everything would be fine and kept it a positive experience. There were on time and kept me very comfortable (warm blankets, pain meds, etc). Nurses were very thorough explaining post-op instructions, answered any questions and clarified anything I was not sure of. All in all I was very impressed!
I give 2 stars for now. had to go for a pre-op appointment. once inside the entrance gate there is no way to get out of the parking lot NOR are there any signs telling you how. the 2 main entrance screeners totally ignored me and kept talking amongst themselves. they sent me to the wrong elevator which stopped on the wrong floor for my appointment. do the screeners not get any training as to where all the departments are??? like most other hospitals I'm given a sticker or a badge saying that I'm an outpatient, here I got nothing. the registration clerk and the pre-op nurse were both super FANTASTIC, making sure all the paperwork was filled out and I had all the information I needed for my surgery day, there should be more staff like these two!!!! other staff I passed in the hallways we're not wearing a mask or a face shield, nor did I see any clearly visible staff badges. nobody stopped or even acknowledged me when I asked for directions because I was lost. I wonder how many restricted places I could have gone to before I was stopped. I did not see a security guard one time. they should have a system to assist security & staff on how to distinguish in-patients from visitors and outpatients. very laxed training for all, complete failure for the visit. by the way to get out of the parking lot, you pay at the exit gate it cost $8 in coin ($1, $2, quarters) or a credit card.(put your card in , charge is automatic,(no buttons to push for pin number), card spits out). here's hoping surgery day goes a lot better
The emergency doctor working the night of December 6 2020 is a butcher i dont know her name. but stay away from this hospital She did stiches on my 3 year old face without any anesthetic and using a huge needle not appropriate for stitching his face
Worst hostipal i have ever gone to. The staff would much rather chat about there weekends and plans. Than to help people who have come to emergency. Wait times are insane, even when there is no one there. I guess they would much rather come to work to conversate
Over 7 hours of waiting just for an emergency Rogham shot for my wife. Worst hospital experience in our 40 year living in Canada.
My poor 6 year old daughter is crying she is in so much pain but let's leave her in the waiting room with zero people around.. This health care is HORRIBLE!!
Avoid at all costs Nurses arguing behind eachother backs and completely miserable. I was witness to 2 mistakes in 2 hours with other patients. Wish I knew who to email or call to report terrible service. Go to Oshawa instead.
Useless, absolutely useless. Doctors treat people like pieces of meat and forget their role as physicians. Some need to think before they speak and pretend they are treating one of their own family members or think about another doctor treating their family member and how they would want them treated. We were there for three hours to be asked: Why did you come here. Had been feeling very ill since Dec and they wanted to know why I was there! Within five minutes they sent me home with a Rx. Not a very caring hospital and yeah I get it when the waiting room is full and you feel pressured to get to the next patient and really don't want to be there. WE ALL HAVE JOBS TO DO, SO JUST DO YOURS AND REMEMBER WHY YOU CHOOSE TO BE A DOCTOR!
No free parking.
I have never had a worse experience at an ER than this one. I was there for 9 hours (plenty longer than anyone else) and was swept under the rug several times. I was left in a hallway in a wheelchair for almost an hour waiting for someone to help me get back from CT. I waited hours for results they told me they had back. The second doctor I saw was incredibly rude when I asked her to further explain my diagnosis, telling me she already explained it to me once (meaning she gave me the name of a condition I’ve never heard of with no further explanation). When I was discharged I had to ask for a staff member to come and remove my IV. I am sensitive to the fact that there are staffing shortages but that doesn’t explain why no one was available to push my wheelchair down the hall or why no other patient was there as long as I was. I am appalled by the treatment I received here and will not be back.
Place is a joke go to any other hospital I would travel farther away than to come back
Bowmanville hospital is beyond garbage. They tell you it won't be too long etc. Doctors shouldn't even have a degree and the nurses shouldn't even have a certified certificate. They are beyond garbage. They make you wait for hours only because they don't have any staff.
Terrible place!!! they make such sick and hurt little children wait for such long periods of a time this place should be shut down...... They have no idea what it means to be apart of the health care team.
Spent 5 hrs after taking my wife there with high blood pressure and they gave her antibiotics for “maybe” having an ear infection. When we told our family doctor he couldn’t believe it. Pure garbage Healthcare. Go anywhere else if you can!
the staff are lovely
I am currently here now .It isnt busy AT ALL .The wait time to see triage was short .Impressive but been waiting 40 minutes to see the doctor and its only me and my husband here..wonder what the wait is...
I went at 5:00 to see the doctor on call at The King Street Clinic, he sent me to the hospital, so I decided to go to Bowmanville. That place is gross.. Never Again. The nurses were nice but the Female Doctor was no help to me what so ever. I didn't like her. I got up and walked out. I called back later and spoke to a really nice nurse. I had pain because there was blood in my urine. Thank you to the doctor that couldn't do her job.
Absolutely pathetic brought my 9 month old in with trouble breathing at 1145pm and at 1:30am still hadn't been brought into a room....when I said Tylenol was due for him at 12am was told not to give him any and they didn't even ask to check on him, check his temp....nothing. There were also 3 other infants all in the waiting room for hours while people labouring some pains were being checked in and taken right away. My son was moaning in discomfort struggling to get his breath and apparently that did not take priority here. This hospital is an absolute embarrassment to Bowmanville and as a resident here am firmly against EVER using this hospital again.....utterly atrocious services....needs to be addressed by the lakeridge health organization and changes need to be made immediately!
