Honestly my experience with health science north has bein complete garbage.. The wait times are stupid 3-4 hrs in the main room brought to the back for another 3-4 hrs before even seeing a doctor..and doctor tells us lur baby boy is fine 1 month old completely throwing everything up in his stomach non stop throwing up clear liquid and blood sometimes and non stop choking.. Went in twice 2 days back to back to be sent home with *hes fine* when obv something isnt fine! Hsn should be dam ashamed for treating babies like that there alrdy helpless and u send them home with nothing

I have been suffering from flank pain, severe fatigue, headaches and light headedness for the last two years. I went in today, feeling like I had lost all hope that I was going to get better. While it may not have been a direct emergency, when I woke up this morning it sure felt like I wouldn't make it to the end of the day. Of course, I still have no answers and the doctors said most of my tests came back normal... No explanation as to why I might feel this way. But the french lady doctor with the short blonde hair in Emerge was very sweet and her bedside manner was commendable. I was in for 5 hours which is actually not that bad of a wait time. To laurie or lori in ultrasound - Thanks for being so sweet!! Ultrasounds aren't always pleasent but you were very nice to chat with. However, to the male nurse in Emerge with the big attitude: You were sitting at the nurses station. I approached you and asked you if I could go get a snack from the vending machine as my blood sugar was low and told you I was hypoglycemic. You responded with "well how do you know you're hypoglycemic?" Hmmm maybe because I am a type 2 diabetic and get severely low blood sugars. You then ushered another nurse to take my blood sugar which read a 2.5 (very low) and then decided it was ok for me to have some juice. Like really? If someone tells you they have a health condition, don't be so rude and try to call their bluff.

Cannot say enough about the ICU staff. Thank you for taking such great care of Rick!

My cancer ridden daughter is a patient here. The staff is great I can't say the same for scheduled surgery. This is day 3 they keep cancelling her procedure and now we have a maybe again! This is rediculous she cannot eat breakfast or lunch . They keep putting her off then give her nothing when they cancel except whatever the nurses can find in the floor fridge. As a mother watching my daughter go through this makes me very angry. She needs her strength to fight and if she cant eat she is not able to fight. One way or another we are leaving here on Sunday morning its been a week. Either schedual it ir dont until you can confirm...so not Happy!! I do not understand why outpatients are taken first . This does not seem right. My daughter needs a tube put in to help drain fluid from her kidneys because of tumours in her abdomen. Her feet and legs are swollen and painful because the fluid in her body does not drain properly. How is this not priority....

Tegan Lahartinger

My grandmother was murdered here. She should not have died. She was denied food daily while awaiting surgery. Every day around dinner time she would receive her one and only meal while being told she was not high enough priority (i.e. not close enough to dying) to have surgery that day. Finally, when she was sick enough and deemed high priority, doctors looked at her and said "she hasn't been eating enough, she is too weak, she likely wouldn't survive the surgery she needs to save her life, we won't even bother trying". I sat by her bedside and watched her die in the very institution that sentenced her to death, surrounded by those who were responsible for her death. It has been almost a week and my blood still boils at the thought of these murderers walking around thinking they are God's gift to the world. Has a similar situation happened to you? Did you lose a loved one to negligence and disregard? Let's do something about it!

I had a gallbladder once and then I went to health sciences north and they removed it for me! Kitchener wouldn't. Alberta wouldn't. Honduras was like that's $3000 please. Dr. Minnick must have played mad videogames because that was six hours ago and I feel like I could play rugby like right now. Zack Zack Bo Bat Will Be A Doctor Know Dat! Nurse Julie and Nurse Lisa should start their own hospital! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️????????????

Not happy with this hospital at all

Father was staying there with a massive heart attack, Brain damage. They transferred my father without my permission. They didnt consult with me, his only son. He is now further north in Kapuskasing, where discrimination is at its peak for First Nation people.

I have not been to the hospital for myself in over 5 years. I don't go to the hospital for no reason. Especially a cough. I went there because I was having a string of anxiety attacks and I have no family doctor. I didnt know where else to go. Well the doctor told me i was wasting time. He actually said it word for word, twice. After being promised I would leave with some coping strategies I was told to leave completely empty handed. I was now in the beginning stages of another anxiety attack and didnt know the parking only took a specific type of card. I pushed the call for help button and told security I didnt have change, and there was absolutely no where for me to leave my vehicle while i go get change. I'll admit i was impatient and i wanted to get the hell out of there. They hung up on me.. I pushed the button again and told them to send help as there was a lot of cars behind me and I was stuck having an anxiety attack right there. Well I didnt know what to do so i jumped a curb to get out of the way, and hardly made it to an illegal parking space to finish the worst anxiety attack of my life. Which ended in me being so scared I had to call 911 from the hospital parking lot. And then the passenger ambulance driver proceeded to make me feel stupid because by the time he had found me in the parking lot, the attack was over. The triage, the ambulance driver and the reception were all incredibly courteous and respectful. My mom asked why I didnt go to a walk-in clinic. I told her I didnt know I could. I work hard and pay taxes and rarely use government services. I always saw my taxes and said I'm glad it's there if I need it. Well I need it and it has failed me.

I would rather die on the street that work or be treated there they treat their employees like we are garbage. There is no trust or understanding berteeen ddpartments. The place is run Mickry Mouse and his gang. Too many bosses and no where near enough employees. In my opinion they should follow them other places for a day just to see how's ran Not on a fairness ame but a business We are humams. Running on a points sydytems makes it more logical. If Jane is .6 and Bob is .3 welll those are all the shifts he givin. They can both can pick up. Then it becomes first one to bid, first come first try not this whole fairness game. We arek not in kindergarden

I came to the hospital to have my baby, and I have not received anything but the best level of professionalism , respect and best standard of care. Everybody in the Maternity Ward were amazing, all the nurses were knowledgeable, compassionate and treated me with dignity and respect. upon delivery my son got stuck, his heart beat dropped and the umbilical cord got stuck. The doctor knew what to do, and she got him out no problem. Everybody in that room impressed me, even all the students I allowed to watch and learn were professional. The Pediatrics ward also impressed me. All of the nurses and doctors are also just as amazing. They've got the same impressive standard of care at Pediatrics. Breakfast in the cafeteria is Simply Amazing! Definitely a very good experience for my son family and I.

I went to the emergency for an ankle injury. i was clearly limping and in a lot of physical distress. i had to walk around in circles so many times with no staff help or no walking aid. i didn’t get any pain medication or any ice or anything to help (i say this because i’ve been to multiple hospitals and i’ve always gotten proper and full care) i was only given a wheelchair at the very end. the care for the patient just felt lacking. the timing was very good however. i was in there for 3 hours and got looked at very early.

This place is full of ageism. If you are under 30 they don't take you seriously at all. My family member went in with chest pains and was basically told, he's fine, here's some advil. After the 3rd time the doctor seemed to take it more seriously and told him that he would be called for an echo because they needed to check his heart. Waited 5 days and no call, called them and they said they don't do that there. I called them to file a complaint and they said that the family member would have to call the ER because the attending doctor DIDN'T put in the order to have this done. EVEN THOUGH IT WAS LISTED RIGHT ON HIS PAPERS FROM THE F'N DOCTOR! WHY DID WE BOTHER TO CHANGE TO ONE HOSPITAL. IT WAS WAY BETTER BEFORE THEY OPENED HSN.

Pamela Akpalialuk

Night time staff can be a little more considerate when it comes to other patients rest. Some lady nurse keeps following this man nurse when he checks on my roommate and they're laughing and joking around waking me up at 3am. I just had my third miscarriage and I could have really used the rest. Thanks.

YOU owe ME stars for having to make this review you are so far in the negatives. My brother was brought in by ambulance for chest pain on Sunday Morning and then was left to sleep in the ER waiting room into Monday before he was placed in a hallway, and then finally given a room in the evening. He was told he may have pancreatitis and had an ultrasound and scan appointments scheduled that were being constantly changed. He was then moved into a converted bathroom with no windows and a bed in it, so that his bed could be given to someone else on Tuesday morning. After having him without food or water for three days and no conclusive results on his pancreas, he ended up signing himself out to go to a clinic as you did absolutely nothing for him while he was in your care and also in suspected organ failure. Personally, I wouldn’t trust you people to treat my Dog with medicine.

On November 1st, I had a bad finger injurie I want to thank Donna in Triage for helping take control of breathing properly, getting me a bed right away. Thank You for being patient and going out of your way to make sure I was being taking care of. However it was long wait time of 6hrs but that was out of your control. Health Sciences North is very lucky to have a women like you as a part of the staff. Very patient, in control in tough situations, committed and loyal thanks for turning his around into a positive experience.

Slow to get through Emergency.

Inconsistent standard of care to the point of being dangerous and deadly. Some nurses and doctors are excellent and deserve awards, other doctors and nurses are knowingly abusive and negligent and deserve to either be arrested for assault and/or lose their license to work. The administration should be fired for their negligence to ensure a consistent standard of care where patients are treated like human beings. An example of this is our repeated visits to the ER because of two nurses and one doctor who knowingly used non-sterile equipment and bare uncleaned hands to remove stitches from a surgical wound. The wound became infected after weeks of keeping it sterile and clean and we had to get a 5-day antibiotic IV drip (which the application of the IV was a whole other level of abuse by the "experienced" nurse who attempted to unsuccessfully apply the first IV). We have heard from friends and colleagues that this is business as usual for the HSN (among other countless issues experienced) at this hospital/institution for a long time. We were recommended to go to Toronto (for surgeries, specialists, and family doctors!) or independent walk-in clinics by 20+ people who were mostly born in or long term residents of Sudbury! The HSN network of physicians has also been just as inconsistent and worrying (outside of the ER) with respect to the quality of care and I hope that someone will help change this. Governments can provide more money or personnel but it doesn't matter if the quality is the worst among G20.

Had a cardiac scare. They had me in triage inside of 15 minutes, hooked up to machines with blood taken inside of 45, and then kept me for another 2 hours to monitor me. Identified a heart problem I've been complaining about for -10 years- without getting a proper diagnosis, and referred me on. Everybody was incredibly friendly and professional.

It has its flaws in terms of wait times but the services that are provided here are some of the best known to the world of medicine. With all of its great team of doctors and nurses, as well as other departments, this is one of the best hospitals when you need one.

Screaming Fetus

Highly stressful environment, the employees do very well

YØUNG N1SH

When the hospital is packed, and delayed a few hours it would be nice if your staff would stop joking and talking about magical flying squirrels and do their job. Let them look for a job where they can talk because they don’t even work. Was in the hospital today for 4+ hours before my girlfriend even seen the doctor. When the hospital is packed please actually do your jobs, considering there’s people that have a real emergency, yet you don’t take your jobs serious and just joke around. Pathetic staff, if I could rate below 1star I for sure would!!!

nurses and doctors are intimidating...don't go here if your looking for mental health help.

Jasper Hazelwood

Doesnt even deserce a star. Doctor Middaugh in the emergency department is rude, incompetent, and treated my partner like an idiot about a condition that he's had for 26 years, he refused to acknowledge the reason we were there which was cluster headaches, and treated us like dirt. He wouldnt listen to either of us, and I'm pretty sure He's homophobic. Not happy, and will be filing an official complaint with the medical board. This man should not have a medical licence.

Christopher Durocher

Important: They treat people with mental illness like second class citizens and try to avoid helping you regardless of the severity of the issue you're going in for. Wouldn't even trust the nurses and doctors with a pair of nail clippers. 12 hour wait times, rude staff, under educated, they have no idea what they're doing. Treat people with mental illness horribly as well, as someone who values my health and my life I will never go to this hospital; I suggest you do the same.

THE Mindemoya division of HSN Gets 5 ⭐'s for keeping up there good work continuing to misdiagnose hundreds of patients. They also do not document all concerns/procedures that are related to a visit. So check your discharge sheet for Doctors comments before you leave this hospital. (Example, I was in a motor vehicle accident, and bc I suffered a great deal of blood loss, I received 1 bag of blood (1983). And was subsequently diagnosed with the hepatitis C. in 1999. When I approached them for my medical documents, so I may apply for the Gov't subsidy for ppl who received tainted blood. There was little to none documented re:emergency visit. Their accounts of the emergency room visit were not fully documented. (I have a witness who saw first hand the blood I was given.) But because they did not include this in there reporting, and documentation. I was declined for subsidization from the Gov't/ redcross program for those who received bad blood in 1983. Thank you HSN for not only making me very sick with bad blood, & not documenting something of real importance (blood) but also for having caused me a lifelong liver disease, with the possibility of death. Next case: To validate another issue of misdiagnosis. I have to say, when my mother had been diagnosed with, Lung cancer in Fla. So she immediately got on the next plane home. The doctors in Hamilton were fabulous. Upon her return home in Springbay she was cancer free, and in great health. When she payed a visit to HSN bc she had fallen and had a little knumbness in her arm. Mindemoya diagnosed her with a stroke, and said she'll be fine after a couple of days. Lofl, thank god for her kids who took her for a second opinion, only to find she had not suffered from a stroke at all. ???? My mom's cancer had metastasized to her brain, and was carrying 5 tumors around. So naturally, it spread very quickly. Mindemoya Health Center caused my mother's death by not even taking any tests for her way back then. This to me shawdy healthcare they and will continue to have! Oh ya, in case I didn't mention, with prompt attention to, she would never had died. So ya, thanks for attributing to her state of being. DEAD! THIS WAS 100% HSN faulty workmanship.

I'd rather waste away at home than go deal with the emergency receptionists at triage. My impending death sounds more pleasant than 5 minutes of their attitude...

This review is purely based on the ICU department. I can't say enough positive about this. The nurses are beyond exceptional: sweet, caring, nurturing souls who do their best not only for their patients but for the families of the patients as well. The doctors are wonderful and knowledgable keeping us informed every step of the way. The level of service here is like nowhere else in Ontario. Unfortunate incidents happen all the time and we are beyond grateful for everyone in ICU who has assisted every step of the way and made this process a bearable journey. The nurses especially do not get enough thanks for all that they do. We are forever indebted to their kindness and assistance.

Gemma Lain

Staff suck they're rude. Wait times are out of hand.

Abdulkareem Althwaini

Comparing to other experiences.. Not bad

Andre Lepine

Most of the negative reviews are based on patients' experiences in Emerg. I agree that the Emergency Department has some pretty serious issues (rude staff, only one doctor working at very busy times, excessive wait times, etc.), but most other units are well-run and are staffed with caring, competent professionals. You would have to be admitted to see this side of it.

July 15th. 2020, I was admitted for day surgery. Professional and friendly staff with a great number of volunteers willing to help. The screening process was fast but very thorough. Admission staff, exemplary, and my Doctor, Shum, and his team the best I could expect anywhere in the world. Thanks to you and thank you to Dr. Nala and my good and caring ICU nurse, Bruce, who came down to see how I am doing. Great job and proud to be living in northern Ontario.

Very disappointed in this hospital. My grandmother was acutely ill hasn’t been eating or drinking for days, had an episode of what was described as a TIA and sent home with an appointment for a few weeks later. I was talking to her the next day on the phone and she could barely talk to me and wasn’t making sense. I work at a hospital down south and I know that this was a sign of either another TIA or something else causing delirium. I told my grandfather to take her back to the hospital as she was worse than she was yesterday. I told him to explain that she’s not normally confused and hasn’t been eating or drinking. She’s a diabetic and has still been taking her insulins without eating. Second visit, she had a fever. Kept her in emerge and sent her home saying it was a bladder infection giving her antibiotics and no follow up for the urine culture to see if the antibiotic will be effective. I don’t understand how this place can miss a UTI/bladder infection on the first visit. Not doing a proper assessment on someone and misdiagnosing/discharging without a full picture is negligent. All they care about is getting the patient out so that their wait times look great in reports and papers. Extremely unsatisfactory

I came in with pain in my knee. Registration girl was unprofessional, I was in pain. She was arguing with me regarding my name. Assumed I was on welfare. I had been camping. I had a problem walking and they sent me to the surge unit. I waited 3.5 hrs. Dr. finally came in. No xrays.

I find that they provide excellent care once you are admitted. But good luck getting admitted! Great, caring and empathetic nurses and doctors up on the floors. Willing to answer questions and call bells and never seem annoyed (even when it would be hard not to be). Nothing but great things to say about them. I cannot say the same for the ER staff.. nurses and doctors. I found them to be incredibly rude, dismissive and arrogant. It's not an easy job, but if you hate it that much, there are many jobs out there where you don't have to infect the vulnerable public with negativity. Seeing as the ER is the starting point for many people's hospital journey, it would be nice if they treated the patients with dignity and respect as their coworkers upstairs do.

This hospital is a disaster. They don't triage there patiences out all. The nurses there have trouble giving a four year old Tylenol saying that you need to see a doctor. As she's getting worse they take a guy with a simple cut on his finger that already stopped bleeding. Worse one yet is the mother with the 6 month old who was waiting there an hour or two before us. We've been there for 3 hours. Also a lady passed out and the nurse were completely condescending AND another lady almost fell out of here wheelchair twice and she couldn't even remember her name. Again the nurses were useless saying things like "I know you're awake" to both patiences. Disgusting behavior. Worse hospital in Ontario. Bar none.

3 hours total to be given some Tylenol, told that women's bodies are unpredictable and that should my issue persist, to come back. Well since Tylenol didnt do the trick(obviously) my issue has continued so I'm in the exact same place as I was before but out 5$ for parking. The bathrooms were also very dirty in the ER. 2 starts only for how quick I was into the actual office.

Was suppose to be induced on the tuesday they called said a time i came in from an hour drive. then when i got here they said they couldnt do it. (waste of time gas and money) then they booked me in for thursday at 830 in the morning didnt get induced until 430 so again wasted time and money when i could of just came in later in the day. Just had a baby and the nurses that delivered were good. then came the next morning they were rude havent been tended to very much, wanted to leave at the 12 hr mark which i would have to sign a paper because im leaving early they said yup can do that so 2 hours before leaving they tell me i can leave so i got upset then the doctor came in said i could so i was relieved then she came in around at the 12 hr mark and told me i couldnt

Unbelievable. A family member went to seek help as he's diagnosed with a mental health disorder, and was turned away. It's rediculous how much this current system fails people in this category.

Huge shout out to all the Nurses and Doctors working in the NICU and Paediatrics department. We have had two stays for our newborn son since his birth and I cannot commend the staff there enough. They were amazing - informative, compassionate, helpful , and just constantly going above and beyond to ensure our little boy was taken care of (and us too). Thank you to everyone we came into contact with during such a stressful time. We cannot express how much it all meant to us.

A story you don't want to happen to you: My elderly Mother of 87 years of age has not even so much as had a cold since 1967. She suffered a heart attack a little over a month ago in her home city of Ottawa and was treated at the Heart Institute of Ottawa. She had two stents put in to open up the 100% blockage she had on one side of her heart. She recovered quite well and was sent home. My brother and I took her back with us to Sudbury to my brother's home to recouperate for a few weeks. She was here for only a couple of days when everything went wrong. She was struggling to breathe. We took her to emerg and she was sent home with a diagnosis of anxiety and COPD flare up. The next day it got worse and we called the ambulance. Again she was sent home with the same diagnosis. We thought perhaps it could be one of her medications causing a side effect. Brillinta can cause some people to have a more difficult time breathing so I contacted Ottawa and had it changed the next day. That night we were forced to call EMS and ambulance again as she was in agony and again could not breathe despite 9 puffs of her puffer. When my brother and I arrived at the hospital, we were met with a Doctor who took us to the family room and explained to us that our Mother had been put on life support (breathing apparatus). We were devastated. He then asked if she had a DNR order. She did have a Do Not Recessitate order which we had in the vehicle with her papers. The Doctor informed us that there was nothing more they could do for her and her wishes meant that we should take her off life support. He also told us thAt she was unable to breathe on her own. He explained that once the life support was removed that it would only be a matter of time but that they would keep her comfortable. She was given morphine to keep her sedated. The family waited in the hallway of emerg outside her door while they removed her from the breathing tube. It was a moment I will never forget. My Mom was going to die and we sat by her side to wait for it to happen. The nurses came over and said they were moving her to the 4th floor where it would be quieter. A few minutes later a Doctor came to tell me the worst thing yet! He said he thought that my Mother may have contracted a virus. I asked if there was anything they could do. Here's the worst of all... H told my brother and I that he could give her antibiotics and oxygen but given her age and the fact that she had a DNR that he was not going to treat her. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!? I asked him if he knew what DNR meant. He said yes and also said let's be realistic about your Mothers age. I could not believe what he had just said. I said "so you want us to watch her choke to death?" He said "basically, that's what happens". I told him that it was not going to happen to my Mother and that he had better start treating her immediately and with the Grace of God and her absolutely wonderful nurses as well as a NEW doctor, she is recovering back with us at home. Doctor Lam, thank God for her, ordered a CT scan that reported back as her having blood clots on her lungs. She told us that she simply needed anti coagulant medication and melds to keep water from gathering on her lungs and she would be fine. My Mother is 87 years old but she deserves the best and she certainly was not getting it in the beginning. I asked for her hospital records but it seems that some of the notes have disappeared. Imagine that! I have posted this review in the hopes that if you have someone who is elder in your life and they need care or treatment, please make sure that they are given every bit of it. Be their eyes and ears for them! I LOVE YOU MOM

This is a medical facility located on paris street. It has a helipad to facilitate the easy access to patients from far away places. It has a good parking facility and there is another facility near the gas station. There are several departments dealing with different facets of medical disciplines .

Unprofessional Inept Lack of empathy .... I was sent to emergency by my family physician as she was concerned for my life du to my symptoms, I waited for over 6 hours to be told they don't know what's wrong with me and to go home, granted they have me some random 300$ antibiotics for 2 weeks... ok so I go home only to come back in a few days later because I'm experiencing the side effects of the antibiotics, (the antibiotic instructions say to go back to emergency if these symptoms occur). Once here they again make me wait for over 6 hours only to tell me there's nothing g they can do and that they are not willing to bring in a specialist to help find out what's wrong with me. When I ask them why they need a specialist they inform me that it is illegal for them to do anything more without a specialist present.... so with nothing else that I can do, I leave and get a ride to the hospital in north bay (i am in way too much pain to be able to drive myself) where the bring me in almost right away. They of course have to re-test for everything and make me wait for the results. Yes I waited a long time, about 4 hours, but they actually brought in the specialists and that was what some of my wait time was, once the specialists was in we were able to figure some things out and start the treatment process. I do feel that the way I was treated is a complete violation of my human rights... I would not recommend the sudbury hospital for anything other then a common cold as unfortunately they dont really seem to care about your health there....

Have been many times, for a ct scan and have been very impressed with the speed and the friendly staff, thank you.

My friend went in severe distress while having terrible symptoms of vomiting, headache, diarrhea and muscle weakness. All they did was give her a shot for her headache which made her loopy then waited for her family to be busy so they could ask her if she wanted to go home. They don't listen to their patience, they don't take time with their patience's and tend to send you home. Her family doctor sent her to the hospital and they basically patted her on the head and sent her home. Now she wont go back because she said they didn't do anything for me, whats going to change by going in again. She hasn't kept food down for 6 days and is severe pain. Ive never been so disappointed in a health care system.

Paulette Sivret

I went in by ambulance was really dizzy not feeling g well ...after they did blood work they sat me in a wheel chair in emergency.?at one point we were all asked to move at the end at this point I still can't walk so I had to get out of my chair and guess what I passed out ...no one helped me all I got was yelling ..get off the the floor we are in the middle of pandemic u know so I tried to getup then fell on the feet part of the wheel chair .still no help all I got was come on get off the floor....the nurses and doctors were very rude and condescending..I never go to emergency and will never go back ...I can't believe how there is no more human compassion ....

Emerg was full, but my infant got pushed ahead into the front of the line. (Not sure if it was because he is an infant or because it was a head injury) Was there for a little over an hour and a half, which was appropriate given they had to make sure he didn't get worse. I like the pay machines because you can use debit and tap your card as well. $5 / 2 hours.

I have a daughter who suffers a rare condition and realized at the last minute that her health card was expired. I attempted to speak with the reception desk at the Emerg and first called the switchboard to be directed. I initially asked for the front desk, which had her chuckle at me, then I asked for registration, then finally I asked for the intake department to get in to see the drs after hours. My mistake---apparently this is called emerg and because I didn't use the correct hospital terminology this gave her the right to be rude with me and correct me on my error. It surprised me that someone in her position, who more than likely knows the people she is communicating with are in distress would treat people in such an ignorant way. I let her know my disappointment in her service, and advised her to next time ask probing questions when she is speaking with someone who is unfamiliar with the hospital, which ultimately lead her to hang up on me. Once I got to the hospital, the staff was great, it did take a while but I was prepared for this. It's just a shame that my first impression of the hospital this evening was such an awful one!

O M G never again do I ever want to get sick enough to have to go to the emergency center. We were told common cold and given a prescription for over the counter cough medicine. Cough got worse went back 3 days later doctor says pneumonia given pills and a puffer and a week off work. Still the coughing is getting worse followed by dizziness and puking. Went back and 3rd doctor says nothing was ever wrong and 1 particular nurse at the nurses station was extremely rude and condescending. This whole experience makes me think that the hospital has no hospitality and that the government just wants us to pay our taxes and shut the hell up. I would like the taxes I paid for health care returned to me with interest please since I've only used the health care system for this 1 time in the last 20 years

Sunday August 22. Arrived at 2pm its almost 8 oclock. Had surgery 3 days prior and had return to er...What an embarrassment to healthcare. Id be so embarrassed to work there. 6 to 8 hrs plus is anything but acceptable. 5 hrs before even giving pain med. A real embarrassment .

Horrible emergency department I have ever met.

Mic Sutton

My sister has made several appointments to emerge where the most they have done is give her an IV to help with dehydration and then sent her home. She can’t eat without her stomach in pain, but no one has done anything to help. If I could rate it lower than one star I would.

mary chernenko

I can't thank you enough for the care and attention Dr Primo gave me .This has been a very difficult time but it could have been much worse were without Dr Primo’s dedication and expertise. I am truly grateful for the level of care he was able to administer to me. I was also grateful for the time he took to talk with me to help us better understand my options. I will always be grateful to the paramedics and nurses and their skills. I also want to thank Karen for the care she shown me. Thanks again.

Laura Sabovitch

I went to the ER with severe pains in my side and back. I didn’t wait long to get registered or to see my nurse in ER they ran tons of tests on me in that one night and found out that I had an abscess that ruptured on a nerve that controls my left leg. I had to stay in the hospital for 3 days, and I must say that everyone I came in contact with from the time I walked in that door till the time I left treated GREAT ???? I don’t have one bad word to say to say about HSN and there staff.

It was my first time going to the emergency. I even told the nurse it was my first time. The nurse that registered me was really rude and had a really bad attitude. I just want to say, please keep in mind that everyone has bad days and are going through rough times. So I kindly ask please be nice, you don't have to smile but at least be considerate towards people.

Bettina V

Very rude nurses and doctors for someone in crisis. They made me lay on the floor when emerge was completely empty as I was so sick mentally and physically. How about you treat your patients like people. We aren't stupid like you think nurses and docs. You didn't even check my records for suicide attempts that is all in your system. This was the worst experience in my life and I feel I can never go back to that hospital again. So thanks :(

Duane Clarke

Just spent 8 days in your hospital. First 48 hrs in emerg before finally getting a room. Understandable given the situation. You should be very proud of your nurses and doctors. The nurses in emerg., despite being ,I guess about 130% over capacity, handled the situation with an extremely high level of skill and compassion. They carefully monitoring my situation and administered the required treatments. I guess i was a lot sicker than I thought was. When ever they had a spare minute they would stop by and lift my spirits. Amazing people! Once in a room the nurses and support staff on the 4th floor of the south tower took over with the same dedication, compassion, professionalism and just plain hard work in an overcapacity situation. Congratulations to the emergency and the 4th floor south staff. Please recognize these people and let them know their patients recognize their dedication. Duane Clarke Markstay, Ontario

Very rude and unhelpful on the phone. I’ve called three times to confirm when my appointment is and every time was the same.

Bondo

Some ignorant staff. Little communication / answers for immediate family. In a rush to get you out. Published statistics do not correlate with experience. Claim 100% of patients received treatment within certain time. They did not. Claim 35 day average. Waited almost 150 days. And They Cancelled surgery the day before. In a word: negligent. Will be speaking with ombudsman, MPP's and very likely a lawyer. Absolute disgrace to our health care system.

Today needed the service's to assist in bring someone to the hospital ,from the initial call to 911 to the compassionate paramedic it was a very positive experience once at the hospital the RN doing the triage again very compassionate, understanding there work environment is extreme at times the wait time to see the physician was reasonable, the DR. quickly diagnosed the situation and establish a program to meet the need of the patients well being. Great Job...and thank you

Patricia Joyce

I had to bring my husband to emerg, last Monday, where we were seen and treated by Dr. Fortino. He took very good care of Jay, was very thorough, answered all of our questions, in a most pleasant and approachable way! But what blew us away was getting a follow up call, from him, the following Saturday to see how Jay was progressing. In all my years we have never experienced that kind of commitment and caring...he is a one of a kind special caregiver...we are lucky to have him!

Melissa Guitard

Had surgery last week and had to spend 2 nights in the hospital. I'm honestly not sure where the bad reviews are coming from as I was treated well the entire time I was there. Everyone was extremely kind and courteous. From the registration at pre-op, to the RN at discharge. The nurses were all compassionate and took care of me well. I only had one nurse during the entire 2 days that I didn't care for as she only checked on me at the beginning of her shift and I didn't see her until I requested my meds before bed, which was about 4 hours later. Other than that the nurses made my experience good in a painful situation. They were genuine and you could tell they actually cared about my well being, even being as busy as they were.

Great people could make place better.Try send few staff in Niagara Helth System to learn how to work efficiently.

Claudette Chartrand

My daughter and her 7 year old son went to emergency at 6:15 and she and he were home by 9:15. He was taken care of quickly and efficiently and they were quite satisfied with the friendliness of the nurses and the physician who took care of him. Thank you HSN.

I had to visit this hospital for a “Minor Procedure“ on March 11. The hospital is intimidating to say the least. But ALL the staff that I stopped to asked directions, from reception, janitors, nurses etc were wonderful, and got me where I needed to be. When in the Minor Procedures unit, everyone was helpful and thoughtful. Finally to Dr. André de Greef and his staff, thank you for being there, helping to keep me calm and making me feel safe????

Charles McLean

Excellent.

Cassandra Whynott

Nurse was very nice and comforting but the doctor didn't correct the problem I went in for. I waited 4 hours for him to send me home with the same severe chest pains and inability to breathe properly. Its nearly monthly i end up in there with the same issues over and over again. I wish they'd actually listen to what the patient has to say. Not just give them random pills they don't need. Never been very impressed with HSN but it's getting worse and worse.

Tammie Sullivan

All staff I encountered were excellent, friendly caring! The only downside is the 9 hr wait.

Kim Benoit

My daughter was directed to emerg from a clinic due to some disturbing blood work. Was see by a RUDE Dr that told her it's a family Dr issue not hospital issue. What kinda place are you running there?? I will make a formal complaint to the physician medical board and our lawyer to ensure this Dr is given some training in dealing with people in pain. Too bad there is so many like this Dr. She was not wanting pain pills or narcotics she was in pain and was directed there.

The emergency dept is a long process, but I've always received the best care.

Jen McGinn

TERRIBLE Emergency department. They complain about having no beds but the rooms that they have (upwards of 20) are all converted into mini waiting rooms with 10 chairs where people have to wait in triage, wait after registration (I waited from 11 pm- 5:30 am, when there was only 8 patients in the whole department, one doctor and 3 nurses) then once they call a mass amount of people in, you think you are going to a room, and then you just get put into another waiting room. Once the doctor comes and calls you, you go into a small private room with a bed, he asks you his questions, tells you what he thinks, and tells you to go BACK to the waiting room. I WAS IN PAIN having to walk all over the emergency department! I felt like cattle being herded, not a person in pain. Once the doctor ordered his tests I waited more, got the tests done, waiting more, and the doctor called my name from the waiting room, and TOLD ME MY RESULTS RIGHT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE IN THE HALL!!!! didn't even take me into another room! How embarrassing for some situations! Not only did the professionalism, waiting times, and treatment frustrate me, the hospital didn't even send the file to my doctor! they never followed up on the extra ultrasound ordered, even though the ultrasound showed that I had a MAJOR problem, later to find out by my family doctor when I had to go back to the hospital and fight (and WAIT) with them to forward my tests and file to MY doctor! I am a student and needed a note to be excused from some classes, and I had to wait in emerge to see a doctor for over 5 hours JUST to get a NOTE! So disappointed in this hospital and am tired of doctors complaining about their jobs- when they don't even do their jobs correctly, or with care anyways.

Adam Feijoo

This hospital's ER is nearly always understaffed. Even when staffed MDs brush off patients. They missed gall stones on an ultrasound 6 different times. Then on the seventh an older MD noticed the stones on a ultrasound from our SECOND visit. How can this possibly be acceptable? Staff in the ER allow patients to jump lines if they complain even when patients who are quite sick are still in the waiting room. Next time i need an ER ill drive to northbay or down south to a more functional ER instead of waiting hours to be told a patient with gallstones is perfectly fine. Disappointing given how kind and friendly staff are.

My wife has been waiting 5 months for surgery. The surgery was booked approximately 2 months ago for October 31st. I postponed an arbitration hearing in Toronto involving at least 10 other participants in order to be with my wife during the surgery. We were informed today that tomorrow"s surgery has been postponed for one month. My wife was mentally ready for the surgery and we had arranged for post-op assistance at home. Having surgery is a stressful event that requires mental preparation; my wife's medical need will be ignored for another month and the mental preparation starts all over again.

Pete Joly

I have just 2 months at HSN and I received awesome care especially on 7 North 4 South and especially 3 South on the Intensive Rehabilitation Unit People have to understand that it can be a long wait in emerge but you also have no idea of what's going on out back. The complaint I have is that some doctors need an attitude adjustment as many will agree (Dr Caruso )

Bonnie Schmidt

Helped my dad on more than one occasion for his heart issues (multiple heart attacks). The staff seem fantastic but there are far too few of them. They are run off their feet.

J Bitts

You go to emerge and everyone is overwhelmed with patients, long wait times and crammed, then you go to any other departments and half the staff are having a laugh and relaxing, the management and delegating needs to improve big time or the system in place needs to be addressed. Its not fair that half the staff are giggling all day and the other half working their asses off.

Ryan robinson

Went for testing waited all day to get 1 test done and they wanted to do more testing wasnt waiting all night place is a joke!!!

Annie Kerr

I was so upset what my friend went through there he had chest pains and numbness starting and the emerg dr thought that it was nothing because of his age. He ended up with a stroke and now paralized .its common sense if a person has chest pain and numbess that means something is really wrong.also rude nurses there no compasion they should be ashamed of themselves i am so tired of those kind of people.

Michelle Warner

The gentleman in charge of the dining room on the 6th floor is amazing. Was told he had over 30 years experience. I have many dietary issues that he made sure were met and I enjoyed everything. Truly an outstanding man. Made every patient feel like a member of a family not a patient.

Very professional people, my husband got a severe infection last year and was air lifted from his city almost lost, since he got here, they just made a miracle to save him. He was admitted in The ICU and stayed there for 2 months, doctors, nurses and all the care providers were just awesome and very sweet and friendly, they made every effort not only to help him but to help us as well and cheer us up, we are thankful to them all. Because of COVID-19, a surgery, that was planned for April 22, was postponed and fortunately we got a call from the great Dr Shum office to confirm the surgery will be performed on July the 15th. On the day D, my husband , his daughter and I drove to the hospital and soon he walked in, (1 day before he was there to do all the necessary tests pre surgery and met the Dr anesthesiologist) he was token in charge by very professionals and knowledgeable people and the surgery took place as planned at the right time. It was one day surgery and it went well and smooth and the most important he was in very high spirit knowing he was in very good hands. He was very excited and very happy when discharged for all the special care and attention he got from the nurses Maxine, Cassandra, Rachelle and all the care providers, he even got a short visit from Dr Nala and Bruce from the ICU soon they knew he was at the hospital for gallbladder surgery. I fall in live with this hospital and will always recommend for who ever is in very critical situations.

Tabitha Clark

I've had hit and misses with this hospital. I had severe pain in my lower abdomen and severe menstrual bleeding and had to see 5 different doctors before they decided it was warranted to refer me emergently to a gynecologist (thank god I was persistent that something was terribly wrong because after a biopsy I was told I have a precancerous condition of my endometrium). Another experience, I was in crisis and I needed to see a crisis worker. She was so rude and condescending, telling me "You can't see a psychiatrist, and a doctor can't do anything for you". I went back the next day and was told by multiple nurses to report her as you cannot be denied to see a doctor. I was in the middle of another crisis, and the amazing Dr. Aulakh was gracious enough to take me into her service. She has been nothing short of amazing. She doesn't have a lot of time, so she gets right to the point, but will remember to ask you how you are doing and has been super helpful in trying to assist me with stabilizing my medication out of hospital. The most earth shattering event happened here too. In January 2016, my Dad went to a walk-in clinic due to cellulitis on his leg. The doctor at the walk-in told him he was going into septic shock and he needed IV antibiotics immediately. He went to the hospital and the emerg doctor said "You don't need IV antibiotics, these pills will be fine". A few hours later my Dad had a TIA and was confused, making no sense. He was transported by ambulance to HSN. He was in ICU and was starting to feel better, but then started saying he was feeling confused again. I was on my way from Ottawa. He tried to use the call bell for help and no one saw him for 4 HOURS (when my mother arrived), turns out the call bell was unplugged (Negligence). After a few days they decided to finally consult an internal medicine specialist, who said he needed IV's in both arms pumping antibiotics at full speed. The internal medicine specialist order an ultrasound of his heart and he had 3rd degree heart block with both compromised mitral and aortic valves. The hospital decided he was "not a candidate" for a heart transplant, and told us he had 10 days to live. They refused to put him in hospice because he was on an antibiotic (because, unlike them, we didn't want to give up on a human life), so he was put on the respiratory floor. The only positive thing I have to say about this hospital is the nurses on that floor were very accommodating. They set up a bed in the room so that we could stay with him 24 hours a day. He passed away on February 4th, 2016.

Dean Peters

I have always been treated fairly and compassionately. ..Great team of professionals....maybe people should be aware of what criteria emergency department uses in treating patients so we can decide if should go to a clinic ....

Curt Ure

Recently had an Angiogram done at this hospital. The hospital was very easy to navigate. And I was treated with the highest level of care by the nursing staff, the Angiography team and Dr. Brian Wong. The procedure was done very quickly and with no discomfort at all. I noticed the staff treated all the patients with friendly personal attention. Thank you all so much for doing what you do, and being so good at it. Your the best!

The first night we came In the nurses and p.s.w's were absolutely horrible. now their trying to kick my brother out a day after lung surgery. I understand theirs people waiting...but why send someone out who's recovering when their going to end up back in the hospital and possibly longer than it could have been. Very dissapointed In the health care @ the hospital. Their are the few really awesome nurses dont get me wrong...but if a nurse came up to you when u are in the hospital for anything, and says " are your arms broke ? No? Well than u can do it yourself" what would you say?

Great hospital very good service they serviced my brother

Ellinor Leonard

I visited the hospital for a CT Scan on Wednesday 16 and found the staff in all areas to be their usual professional ,helpful, friendly.compassionate selves despite the difficulties the hospital was having with their IT system.Kudos to you all!

Virtual ER is helpful, but ER is way under staffed and needs to have better cleaning regimes. Saw people leave after waiting many hours for test results.

Honest Opinion

I have had many good experiences here. I had one very rude interaction recently that makes me not look forward to contacting them to book future appointments. I understand being short staffed... or having a hard day... I work in health care... You should still try to be polite. I was treated very rudely by the Ultrasound/diagnostic department. I have been there many times and I know the drill. This time I had a different question when I called to book an appointment and the lady on the phone cut me off mid sentence and went on a big rant, I think she thought she was answering my question... but she wasn't. So once she was done her pointless talking, I asked me question and she was very rude with her answer as if I was wasting her time. She was the one wasting her own time by not letting me finish my question in the first place before answering me.

Eric Glockner

There radiologists there are KILLING patients and the hospital administration does NOTHING !!! Dr. Roberts, Dr. Dhanoa and Dr. Greco should have their license revoked. They are more concerned about making 2 million dollars a year than helping patients.

Tylor tylor

Horrible experience having my baby here. I'd recommend doing it at home you have a better chance. This hospital called the cops and harrassed me over my handy cap sticker. They don't care about the people. Very nasty hospital not clean at all only clean spot is Tim hortens. They put my grand mother threw hell they told us we can't kill her but we can starve her to death and that's what they did she was supposed to pass in couple hours not 5 days after very gross place. I live in sudbury and now travel to kitchener for my appointment.

The largest most busy hospital in Northern Ontario, the staff work there best with the tools that they are provided, Those who are complaining about the small things like paid parking for example don’t realize that paying for parking is not the end of the world. Yes staff are going to be unfriendly, at some times they are human like me and you. Don’t take it personal be nice to them they could be having a bad day. It’s a great hospital that needs to be appreciate more by the community.
