The Hospital is well thought out with an information desk available upon entering the main entrance. The hospital is also completely wheel chair accessible with handicapped parking infront of the entrance and free parking all around the Hospital.

They saved my daughters life. For that ill always be in their debt. That being said, the Emergency (Triage?) are was rude and confusing. I went to the window to sign in. I say hi and I get a grumpy "If you don't sit down the Doctor wont see you." I guess there is a line of seats you need to sit in and wait for the nurse to come to you? I was confused and angry because I knew there was something very wrong with my daughter. Once I got past sign in, the service was exceptional. Health care isn't fast in Canada. But it is free. My daughter is alive because of the help I received.

Sadly I have been here twice with my baby during her first few months of life. Wait time wasn’t amazing but I didn’t have high expectations for a small hospital. One of the ER docs wasn’t overly friendly but it was late at night so I didn’t take offence. Overall everyone is caring and friendly, taking care of my precious bundle as best they could. Happy to have such a lovely little hospital nearby.

Do not trust Groves staff with anything more than a few stitches. The doctors there are responsible for the death of a young man in my family. Also my senior father was in a car wreck and was brought to this hospital in 2021. He was left for hours without being assessed for his pain and injuries and eventually left because the doctor was too busy socializing. He had to go elsewhere see doctors after going home with internal injuries because this hospital is full of staff who don't prioritize.

Just amazing people. Great care!

The people at the COVID testing centre are really nice and patient with you. The waiting time varies depending on the time. I really recommend this place if you want to get tested.

I cannot believe that I entered the hospital, was screened, registered and had a CT scan in 20 minutes! This place is a hidden gem. It is very clean and the staff are friendly and professional.

I understand my experience might be different than some.. do to who I dealt with and the sign in at ER is confusing for anyone and the yelling nurse should realize that these people do not want to be there. And no where does it state what the process is. You see I spent 3 days at Groves and met many great people from Nurses, Doctors and the food ladies to the cleaning lady...she was funny and made my day. My rating is on the people that took care of me while beyond the ER wall. While out I even received a call from a doctor asking how I was doing....like how cool. I remember being scared sh**less about the procedure at St Marys and the one nurse taking the time to talk me, even though I knew she was busy. Was it perfect? NO..but I saw #unsungheroes

ER waiting time is absolutely pathetic. Trust other reviewers. We had to wait for more than 5 hrs to see the doctor. When we came early in the morning and there was was only one patient before us. It took the ER doctor 5 hrs to see our 15 days old daughter. Please avoid if possible.

Appalling. Whilst we had tests run in a timely manner, it took 8 hours to see a doctor. In that time, there was a steady procession of multiple ambulances, which took precedence. Meanwhile there were 2 Mums with infants under a year, one of whom had an ear infection, it was oozing and he became more and more distressed, turning red with fever. There were 2 other toddlers. The walkin clinic at Walmart was full in a few minutes and people were still lined up hoping to be seen before they shut. One of the doctors went home very ill and it took a few hours to get a replacement. I had to do my "Assertive management" thing to get anything out of the nurses besides attitude. Yes we know you are busy, we have been counting the ambulances, and can see what is happening in the waiting room. They need to revisit their triage procedure. They really didn't know what they were dealing with for my mother. My cousin, an A+E nurse practitioner in England diagnosed and gave advice in 15 seconds over email.

I could write a bloody essay about the patient neglect that occurs in this hospital. Once, my mum had a nosebleed that was uncontrollable due to blood thinners. Dr. JAFFERJEE left me in a room with her and told me to put pressure on her nose. It was done at home. That's why we were there... because it didn't stop. I did it anyway. Then she began to go into shock after bleeding for an hour. No one helped me when I yelled. I'm trained to recognise the signs of shock and treat them to the best of my ability. Her BP plummeted, she became incoherent, was losing consciousness, etc. I kept her awake until JAFFERJEE miraculously appeared and denied everything that had just occurred. He sent us home with a paper on how to treat nosebleeds. In a house of medically trained people and a doctor, it was ludicrous. But let's talk about today. My mum sliced her leg open on a broken porcelain toilet bowl. I raced her to the hospital but the 4 inch long, 1/2 inch deep wound was declared "superficial". We waited 15 minutes to be triaged. I tried to elevate the leg on a waiting chair and another patient supplied cleansing wipes. She began to go into shock and no one cared to take a look at her after I screamed for help. The nurse from earlier called me "sweetie" and said that I was being dramatic. After we were finally triaged, we waited 15 minutes longer to see *SURPRISE* JAFFERJEE. My mum has MS and pain for her is about double, if not more, what we would feel in the same situation. Dr. Ignorance gave her nothing for pain, no antibiotics (the wound was near a knee replacement, she was already fighting off an infection, and her immune system was in general quite weak), stitched her up, and told us to leave. If you ever have the choice in an emergency situation, go to Guelph or Kitchener for help. You will not be given the appropriate care at Groves Memorial Hospital.

Building is such an improvement! Staff always pleasant.

I used to think the Fergus hospital was better then Guelph, and it is clean wise but I've been here since 3pm, it's now 10pm. There weren't almost anyone here and I'm still waiting.

The team at groves went above and beyond in my care. I've never been to a more organized hospital. They did everything possible to make sure my medical issues were solved. They are thorough, knowledgeable. Helpful and compassionate. Take the other negative reviews with a grain or two of salt. I've been admitted twice now over the past month for two seperate issues and both times the standard of care was unmatched in regards to quality.

One of the best experiences I have had with hospital staff. Patient, Polite, Informative. Wait times were within what I was expecting. The doctor at the end was especially awesome! She recognized that I didn't have a family doctor and ensured me she would follow up with me!

Unfortunate that the new hospital is not completely finished. My 75 yrs old mother was brought to emergency via ambulance. Could not breath from heart issues and a recent lung surgery. Her mobility is not good. They gave her a medicine to remove fluid from her lungs to help her breath. Therefore had to pee. Lots. Saw a doc at 9. Due to covid we were told not to go to emergency. Mom was all alone. In a little room in emergency....not able to walk...laying in her own piss...for 3 hours no one checked on her...AND THERE WAS NO CALL BUTTON!!!!!! Unacceptable. Pretty basic need and was not available. Groves is always been a good hospital...but this is beyond unacceptable. Shame on groves.

The worst ever I have experienced in this hospital.. my husband needed stitches but because the sign said your last if you need stitches...ment anyone walking in after you that is not as bad but up on the list to be seen gets to be seen before the one thats been waiting for 3 hrs...WHAT...are you kidding me...my husband had to leave after 5 hrs... not even seen not even cleaned up...blood still coming out...finally he had to go to work left with no care...what is wrong here....this is not ok..then a lady throwing upin a bucket..then her husband empty it in the public washroom....yep washed the bucket and no one went in to clean....but several used it after words....wonder why covid is spreading...HELLOW.figure this out groves..not ok at all

I'm giving the Hospital 1 but it's 5 stars for the care given to my father. The nurses have been amazing but most of them worked at the old Fergus Hospital ...which they should have renovated instead building this multi million dollar mess....cold patient rooms, cheap fixtures, cracking cement, shoddy grout work, the glitz doesn't hide the poor work and terrible design...EllisDon should be sued...this Hospital won't last half as long as the old one

Wait times are reasonable in emergency.

The care my wife and received during the birthing process and all the care afterwards for the 3 extra days we stayed there was excellent. Staff was all very friendly and keeping informed about everything going on. We were very satisfied with the whole experience.

If I could give 0 stars I would!! Considering this is a brand new hospital, you would expect the treatment to be quite good. Actually, it was beyond bad. Arrived around 6:30 pm at night with my son who had what sounded like a bronchial infection cough... could barely catch his breath. He'd recently been tested so we knew he was Covid negative, so most likely some sort of bad chest infection. After triage we were immediately escorted to the faith room past the waiting room as it was rammed and with my son's bad cough, would've probably made ppl uncomfortable. We waited in that faith room for 5 HOURS!! My son was in and out of uncomfortable sleep and crying in between his coughs. Not one person came to check on us or update us on our status. When I could flag someone down they said the er was swamped! Finally got transferred to an exam room and waited another2.5 hours until I opulent take it anymore and found the only doctor on the floor. She spoke with her back to me and with an attitude. I requested to leave and in no time a nurse showed up to sign us out. Funny that's the only time someone responded to me promptly was when I said I was leaving. Never again and EXTREMELY disappointed!! P.s. The ER was absolutely empty when we left. Not a soul in there!

Dr Reily and staff were very compassionate towards me during a very difficult operation I had . The staff were all great apart from being put on a ward with some highly mentally ill people who screamed off and on the hospital was good. Clean, food was fine. Although I had to beg for pain meds, and they took their time giving me my Every day meds.

Emma Melitzer

I had a pilonidal cyst that became very bad over a few days and I figured I just needed it drained. So I went to a walk in (I currently dont have a family doctor where I live), but all they could do was refer me to a surgeon, which can take months for an appointment. Since I was in unbearable pain I decided to go to emergency here. I had a fever I did not know about, so they offered me some tylenol while I waited to see a doctor. When I saw the doctor, not only did she examine it thoroughly, she also discussed with a surgeon about getting it removed in case of infection. (The same surgery I would get from a specialist surgeon I had to wait months for). They decided to remove it and got me in surgery 10 minutes later. It amazing coming out of there with huge pain relief, I could actually sit again. And the whole thing (driving there, waiting room, and surgery) only took me 5 hours. The staff were great - I have very deep veins so they had trouble for drawing blood and inserting an IV - but no one got frustrated and were still gentle. Best service I've had at a hospital in awhile

Michelle Derond

Avoid at all cost! Absolutely ridiculous wait in the main room, then an even longer wait through the doors. I brought my 2 1/2 year old for Stitches, have been waiting for 5 hours already. I understand people have more severe emergencies and since he is not gushing blood or concussed he is a low priority, but 1 doctor? This is absurd! How is it possible that I have to come to the ER and not be able to go to an urgent care.

Isaac Dyck

The people at the testing centre for covid treated me fairly the process was pretty fast and the people there were kind people.

Heather Greig

Amazing hospital with Staff that go above and beyond.

Life as we know it Life

One of the best hospitals I have ever had to work with, except the major cities in the area are directing patients to this hospital due to shorter time waits causing grief for local residents. The biggest bonus is that there is no parking fee like other major greedy hospitals.

Steve Doig

I was not happy with My wifes first ultra sound I was not allowed to be in the room with her The nurse was not respectful too myself She did not show my wife the screen or tell her anything She said you will probably have to come back in a couple weeks I was very disappointed in the service today we received

Monica Kwok

Just left the ER. VERY Disappointed ..Went in with a sore swollen foot, that had me up throughout the night. Was sent for blood tests and xrays. Waited for 2 hours, to then be told everything looks fine, SO why does my foot hurt/ache/cant put pressure on it ? NO EXPLANATION, POOR SERVICE. POOR RESULTS. Will not return to this hospital . EVER

Patrice Lehman

Went for an x-ray to see if my foot was broken.....3 hours after the x-ray still waiting on someone to come and read it!!!! Shameful for a hospital....

Bruce Williamson

Dave Favrin

The nursing staff (specially Olivia) and support staff that took care of me during my stay were excellent!

Gary Brown

The absolute rudest nursing staff I have ever encountered, specifically Becca who works at triage. She is so disrespectful and should not be dealing with patients. Extremely disappointed at the bedside manner of this individual, she should not be a nurse if she cannot deal with patients who are seriously ill. I have been here twice, the first time I was told that my leg was not broken, and discovered through my family doctor the next day through the same X-rays that it was broken in two places. The second time I was treated so poorly by Becca, the triage nurse, that I left and went to Grand River in Waterloo. Very disappointed in her bedside manners and the wait time for serious medical problems, AVOID this place and especially her at all costs. Go somewhere else for shorter wait times and better treatment.

S Hill

I thought coming here the wait time would be less than Guelph... yeah.. not so much. Heard the dr up front just chatting with the nurses about decorating her house - haven’t actually seen her yet.. the reception and triage nurse were miserable - I have been to Guelph Emerg and have always had good experiences - so disappointed I came here - will never come here again! Will choose Guelph ANY day.

Austin and charlie avery

I went tonight been in pain for a week with my shoulder and right arm steady pain no relief in sight 4 people in the waiting room I was there five hours before I got in like really how can they be so slow when there are hardly any patients there, and finally seen a doc, she didn't tell me the problem never done x-ray just gave me a aleve shot so she said and still no relief omg this pain is rediclous, may have to go to Guelph general today or grand River, .And the staff it wouldn't hurt if they smiled omg first and last time going there not fit. I even told her a year ago I had xrayx and I have calcium deposits on my shoulder maybe cortisone shot may have helped but nope no help from them

Jordan Whicher

Incredibly slow, more people walked out and went home than actually got looked at and taken care of.

Michelle Timmins

Absolutely ridiculous wait times! My 17 month old fell and split his forehead open and we arrived at the hospital at 5:30pm and it is now 12:30am and we have yet to see a doctor. Still waiting!! How can it possibly take this long?! Avoid at all costs and go elsewhere.

shane di benedetto

I went in there because I was bit by a tick and developed a bullseye rash at the site of the bite, I waited 7 hrs and was not even seen by a doctor , while others went in before me, so I guess that wasn't that important to them as I seen people come in after me and left as I sat there and watched them leave. They built a brand new Hugh hospital with no doctors there, I am very disappointed in the state of our medical facilities in this province.

Brianna Giannis

Got in pretty quick with my kid

Heather Cawthra

Excellent bedside as always. So kind and considerate and willing to do everything they could for you even through shift changes.

Olivia Jaszczur

They forgot about me for like 2 or 3 hours. I was the ONLY one in the waiting room and they just forgot about me. Also the nursing staff was incredibly rude and gave attitude. I do not recommend going to this hospital, I should have gone to Guelph general.

Fausto Vespa

Worst wait times I ever have seen, no one there can give you an approximate time when they will see you , only one doctor in ER incredible stupidity , and the staff are not that nice either , made me wait for over five hours in excruciating pain in the waiting room

Greg Brunette

Alex Robichaud

Probably the worst service I have ever gotten at a hospital. I understand that every hospital has a wait time. However when there are 5 people in the waiting room it should not take 3 hours to get in the office and then another hour and a half for the doctor to show up to see you. I've had shorter wait times while visiting a full waiting room ER before. 10/10 would not come back ever again.

T-Bert Holstein

David McCollum

Good medical staff...but with one shining exception, poor nursing staff! Rude, disrespectful, demeaning attitudes! I'm a nurse & I know what it takes to remain professional under pressure. . It's not a coincidence that the one professional. Those nurses are in the wrong profession because they lack compassion, period! I'm grateful to get my wife out of there to care for her at home after a total hysterectomy. .

Catherine Helle

Very positive experience...wait time to triage was short, however I went in at 8am. The staff were friendly and informative. All tests completed an saw a doctor before 3hrs. Very impressed.

Wait time is unbelievable.

I was at emergency Dec. 27th at 9:00 am and was seen within the hour. I was hooked up to a Blood Pressure monitor in order for them to better assess me. I then saw a nurse practitioner who told me that my blood pressure was fine. When I first arrived it was 188/93. I did not know the results of the other 3 tests. The nurse practitioner told me that it was normal and if I didn't have a machine would I have been concerned? She did not even look at the hives I complained about which have been bothering me for over 2 weeks and told me to get in touch with my doctor. She added don't come back here unless you have a car accident.

Tracy Dunk

They are amazing with my son who has autism and multiple other diagnosis. I rather go here. So patients with him and they listen to him and answer his questions very pleased with the service here.

Z

I waited for 6 hours to see a doctor. 7:30pm arrival and met with a doctor at 1:30am. I was in the waiting room with 2 people ahead of me. They finally called me into a room and I waited from 11:00pm - 1:30am.

Amanda Dennis

Absolutely horrendous wait times in Emergency and some of the staff are quite rude. As a fellow “front line” worker/first responder, I did not appreciate being spoken to like an idiot. I experienced a lot of ignorance during my visit and will drive further to Guelph for better service and care next time.

Shannon Dodson

They would not give my friend pain meds when he asked. They would wait eight hours before checking on him.

drew linseman

This hospital is the WORST in our region i highly recommend going ANYWHERE else that is not this hospital, the wait time is insane. They don’t care for their patients well being and are often unwilling to hear you out when you are telling them symptoms or are having an issue. Personally i will NEVER return to this hospital and will be spreading the word to all of my friends and family. I am highly disappointed as I have been going to this hospital since i was born in their older facility, As of today this will be my last visit. My suggestion. Find a better hospital with staff that is kind and willing to help in a better fashion than this location. 0/10 service and help. Thanks for the wasted gas and time out of my day.

Cat Spicer

Very friendly and efficient staff who go above and beyond when it comes to your health.

This used to be a great hospital, but not anymore. Three negative experiences my husband who waited hours nothing to be done so re-registered and waited longer for another doctor to start received toradol injection sent home. Now problem had gotten worse numb foot +++pain..barely walking now waiting MRI March 26th/17 through FD. I was very ill chills/fever nurse went behind my back got my med profile from pharmacy treated me like drug seeker...read her riot act regarding inappropriate behaviour and privacy issues she violated in waiting room. Went March 10/17 waited 61/2hrs, 2hrs in room...doctors changed shift and still wasn't seen, no new vitals done on anyone waiting. When inquired told still few people in front of me but this was untrue just kept getting put behind new arrivals was told got there and registered 330pm also not true was there at 2pm waited 1/2 for triage and 1hr for nurse. People that registered around same time as me left for same reason ignored for over 6hrs. Also comments from other patients regarding rude staff which seems to be the norm now. Love the excuse we are busy only have one doctor for entire ER...yes like most larger hospitals ER departments with way more patients and ambulance arrivals. Time management skills and patient care lacking. In the back room by self.,,seen no one in 2hrs...someone could be lying there dead and no one would even notice. Shameful!!

R. McGhie,

I was experiencing abdominal pain, which I tolerated through the night at home. The next morning I decided to go to Groves Memorial Community Hospital ER just to have it checked out hoping, as everyone does, that the wait won't be too long. I arrived at 10 am and underwent an emergency appendectomy at 7 pm. During the wait time throughout the day, ya I had to wait for tests to be completed, such as an ultra sound and a CT Scan and yes I was left in a room, in between tests, for hours waiting in pain before the results came back (but I was given pain killers to help). The problem is there are other patients that come in with issues the same or worse than mine. Also performing tests and obtaining reliable results takes time and care. You might have to wait for a radiologist and or doctor, surgeon with surgical staff. These people aren't just waiting in a room ready to go. Some on call specialists have large geographical areas and other hospitals to cover and may get tied up with pressing matters. Although it is frustrating to have to wait, getting upset with medical staff doesn't work. The staff was always kind and thoughtful to me and I treated them with the same respect. I'm 63 and I've had my share of experiences in ER waiting rooms and I can say with confidence that in no way was this a negative experience. Both my wife and I have waited 12 hrs + before seeing a doctor in the hospital ER we recently came from. We even thought like some others do, next time I'm going to another hospital ER hoping for better results only to go through the same experience. I also want to add that the surgeon, Dr Williams, was top notch, bar none! Friendly, knowledgeable and talked to me like a real person. Her surgical staff was great and the nurses who took care of me in the ward were super. I actually feel lucky to be living in an area with a medical facility like this.

Currently at the hospital. Staff have been kind, however I've been here for 4 hours. One and a have in a patient room where the doctor has yet to see me and no one has checked on me. This is unacceptable.

john brown

New hospital. No information on their web site for the layout of the hospital. no information on where various departments are in the hospital. no information about parking. This type of lack of information follows on from the old hospital. Cranky, rude nurses in my experience. A very big difference from other Ontario hospitals with a mixed background staff.

Yasmeen Choudhury

I had my son at this hospital back in October. I went in for an emergency c section at 5 am and by 7:11 am I was holding my baby. The staff were all so amazing and efficient during this process. The nurses who took care of me during recovery were so informative and helpful. The rooms were large and food was great! Might just have to have another baby ;)

While reading some of the reviews of Groves Hospital it saddens me to read so many negative comments. While the waiting room may seem empty on your arrival you have no idea what is happening beyond the triage and waiting room area. Be thankful that you have a health care system that cost you nothing but your time, it is not perfect but it is yours therefore you should embrace it . I recently had to make a unplanned visit to Groves Hospital and I can only say from the start to the finish of my visit I received excellent care. Bloodwork, chest X-ray, ECG where all completed in a timely manner and the physician (Dr. C Pridham) meet and reviewed with me all of the test results as they were reported. While the cause of the pain as never discovered I at least knew that it was not a heart condition or pulmonary embolism. Thank you to the staff that cared for me.
