Overall good service. The entire institution serves ill children and is one of the most noble causes to serve a community. Emergency service is under-staffed. You can easily wait 7 hours over the whole night to see a doctor at emergency. It was an experience a child should not go through and it is a pity a marvelous country like Canada would suffer from such a shortage in doctors for no rational reason. They accept donations. However there is little our society is currently allowed to do to allow more doctors to practice in Canada and help children as well as adults.

Ridiculous wait times, more than 3 hours when your sitting with your toddler who is in pain.

Brad Swift

Great hospital. Courteous and attentive staff.

Carol-Anne Lavergne (Caro)

The doctor and nurses at cheo are angels! They saved my son and gave us amazing service. The second i got there i begged for help and some amazing nurses listened helped my son right away, with no hesitation. They were calm, kind and super responsive. Of course there's times where we got moved alot, and it was a very a scary time for us and we had to stand up for our family, we know that many of the staff Members there do their jobs because they love what they do. I really want to thank Dr Olivier and Dr Mona. You rock! If there's any way I can thank these amazing people, I'd love to send them a gift, a card... anything !!!! Please let me know how I can do this! Thank you

Service in emerge is very poor wait for hours when I broke my leg and I was in a wheelchair, Got in around 9 PM got out at 3 AM

Melinda Stanzel

Absolutely unexceptable wait time. I came in 5 hours expected wait time. Then at 5 hours and 20 minutes was told it would probably be another hour and a half. How can children's hospital have wait times like this!

M Khoga

Thank you Diabetes team so much for your support . You are the best!!!

Kleek McGeek

We are so fortunate to have CHEO here in the capital region.

Katina Zheng

Very friendly environment and staff!

The wait times are god awful I waited from 9:30pm to 4am because I had a stomach virus that was making me black out and get sick constantly and I wasn't able to eat for 72 hours. But they brushed it off and when I asked when we would be helped after 4 hours they literally just offered me a jello cup?! Do they think I just don't have food at home because I do, I just couldn't eat which they knew but obviously that's the smart answer to give your sick patient. They prioritize babies with diaper rash over someone blacking out because of age. And because of my horrid anxiety there was no way I could sit in the waiting room with at least 8 babies all crying and screaming and kids running around, so I politely sat outside the waiting room within a foot of the room, and was yelled at by a nurse for it?! I'm sorry but if you think at 17 years old while I'm fading in and out and on the verge of vomiting I'm going to sit in a room for 6+ hours with chaotic screaming and crying babies your crazy. They literally just popped me some extra strength prescription gravols and sent me home and now I STILL a month later am waking up and falling asleep nauseated and it intensifies in waves, but they where more focused on getting me out than treating me and figuring out what's going on besides the virus with the nausea. It's been like this for 3 months and I dread the thought that I may have to go back.

I was diagnosed with diabetes here and was helped every step of the way. The hospital gave me and my family hundreds of dollars in diabetes stuff and we had 4 sessions with amazing diabetes doctors! At home for the first couple of days nurses came and helped me with my lantus (my long acting insulin) in the mornings until my family could give me the needles themselves. I still have check ups ever couple of months. Cheo is an amazing hospital.

Absolutely feeling disappointed after coming to the emergency department of this hospital.

I cannot praise CHEO enough for the amazing, quick, and caring service they provide every time I have had to bring my son in. Just today, I went to my community urgent care clinic with a wheezing toddler who had vomited from coughing so hard, only to be met with apathy and long wait times to even register. So I rushed him to CHEO instead where we were seen right away. He was given a puffer before we were even registered and they continued to check on him and his blood oxygen level while we waited to see a doctor. They made us feel safe....and the gratitude I have toward them for making me feel that way when my baby was distressed is beyond measure. They kept us informed throughout our time there and were helpful and kind. I feel beyond fortunate to live close to such an amazing hospital and am especially grateful to the phenomenal staff working in the ER/Urgent Care.

Absolutely miserable visit. I get the place is busy but there is no sense of urgency. My son has been waiting for almost 6 hours with no end in sight.

I recently visited CHEO on January 15,2021 and cannot say enough positive things about my experience. I’m a first time mother to an 11 month old little boy who was advised by an urgent care physician to bring him to CHEO. This was my very first time entering the hospital as a mother ( the last time I was in the exact hospital was when I was 10), needless to say I was incredibly anxious and concerned as any mother would be. The COVID screen was fast and efficient, we were greeted by a triage nurse who was absolutely wonderful. She was so caring and kind to my little one as she completed an assessment. We were brought promptly to a room and visited by Nurse Stephanie who was absolutely amazing. I was fully prepared to be waiting several hours, I notice many complaining of wait times and I feel like parents forget that this is an emergency centre for children. At any minute doctors , nurses and specialists may have to attend to a child in a life threatening situation which most people waiting are not aware of. We were attended to by a resident Dr.Hoang ( I’m so sorry if this is not the proper spelling of her name). She was extremely knowledgeable, professional and made my 11 month old incredibly comfortable with all things considered. Nurse Stephanie continued to check in and ask if we needed anything , checking my sons temperature and ensuring he was ok. Dr. Fathi was the last physician to see my son, she was absolutely wonderful and made a worrying mom feel so much better. The doctors , nurses and staff at this hospital are in a category above anything else. They provide the highest level medical care to our children and I cannot speak more highly of them. I would absolutely bring my child back to this hospital as I trust their medical knowledge and abilities to be best in class. Thank you so much CHEO for taking such wonderful care of my son and a very anxious mom. You are all amazing.

The best children hospital i have ever went to they help me with my health problems and they giving me the best information for my spinal fracture and my parents also love the doctors thank you dr ward and all my doctors i had at cheo and the best medical day unit ever.

Kwama Cadogan

Very concerned of children's well being. They have amazing staff in there!

Malika (Ginni)

I would say it is okay. The staff is obviously educated but going there is very time consuming for me due to waiting time and i have to go there pretty often because of regular kidney checkup of my child. I have appointmemts of 9:30 am or 10:30 am and am always coming home at 3 or 4 pm. And that is only for ultrasounds which is a lot of time waste for parents. They will also sometimes tell you that everything is good but they still want to do follow ups which i personally think is a good thing but also very time consuming and headache for busy parent/s especially with the wait time and you are just going there for follow up. Also, there are some staff who are very kid and parent friendly while there are some who couldn't care less. Although the place is always clean and fresh. I have also met some nurses who are super friendly and will always assist me in carrying my child from one room to another. The staff is very patient too. Receptionist and help counter staff is always super friendly and ready to help and guide.

The waiting time is crazy 6-10hr. I brought my son ER at 9 pm and I see the dr at 7:30 am !! I don’t know how to call this . It’s shame for develop country like canada

(Translated) Excellent hospital. It has an institute that studies rare diseases with excellent laboratories and researchers. (Original) Hospital excelente. Possui um instituto que estuda doenças raras com exelentes laboratórios e pesquisadores.

This place is a joke - but the whole system is broken in Ontario, really. A small child should not be expected to wait 4+ hours to see a doctor in a first-world country. Nurses happen to be pretty useless here, too, to add to the misery of the experience. Unless your child is in life-threatening condition, DON’T GO !!

Alei Eldeen Mohamed

Clean organized efficient friendly. Really a great health care service. I felt felt lucky I'm Canadian. Our best regards to the medical and the administrative staff.

I came with my 5 year old daughter with high fever at 2:00pm today and left at 9:00pm. 7 hours spent in the facility to know that we should continue with Advil/Tylenol and visit again in 5 days if this continues (to wait for another 7-8 hours). The level of service is pathetic. I can't imagine sick kids (i saw kids from 1 to 7-8 years) waiting for hours. The management should be ashamed of their treatment/management of services.

CraniX

Take your kids to a shaman, they will be quicker. Ps How do you charge the taxpayers who built the hospital to park there?

Emil Schreiner

Very efficient.

Tim Bayne

The best children's hospital out there. Amazing staff always!

Reet Sidhu

I don't know why they have emergency departments if they cannot see a child in urgent situations Waited for more than 4 hours amd still they are saying it will take 2 to 4 more hours. It was new place for us but totally disappointed. You cannot be so liberal with kids health. Every child matters. I know that. But there must be a better way to see kids in urgency. How they can make a little kid to wait for hours when thay are pain. Its is not a kids hospital by their hospital. Its same as adults. I am so frustrated with this service and completely dissatisfied.

Kaci Culbert

The staff at CHEO are amazing even through the stressful times of COVID. They are attentive, patient and caring. They take the time to truly understand the problem to provide the appropriate diagnosis and amazing follow up. We are definitely blessed to have such a good hospital in Ottawa.

Had my daughter there for a month and i can honestly say everything went great ! thank you cheo

Let's be honest, the waiting area shouldn't be a reason why you would give a 1 star because that issue is at every single hospital you go to, so the root of the problem is not the hospital it's self it's the health system that runs in Canada in general. From my own experience; we called 911 for my 6 months old baby as she had a severe allergic reaction. The paramedic crew were beyond amazing and comforting what a lovely team. My baby was discharged within 2 hours after the doctor realized she has been doing much better after the epi shot and they taught me how to use the epi pen. The nurses were also very friendly for a busy facility, the hospital and the rooms were very clean and the nurse made sure to sanitize and give me a clean room before we went in she also offered me a seat in the hallway while I waited for her. I used to work at health facilities my self and know how exhausting and stressful it is for the staff and always wondered why some staff take their stress on patients but at that time of the day and during my visit for a city like ottawa coming from Mississauga for a visit I am so thankful for the staff and their politeness. Thanks to all the paramedic, nurses and the doctor who took care of my baby that day I wish I knew every single name of you. ❤❤❤

(Translated) I have been going to CHEO since I was born, because I was born with one kidney, and I was very often sick when I was little. The staff I frequent at least twice a year make them like friends. (Original) Je vais à CHEO depuis ma naissance, en raison que je suis né avec un seul rein, et que j'étais très souvent malade quand j'étais petite. Le personnel que je fréquente minimum deux fois par année son rendu comme des amis.

White Mask Chea-Young

The doctors and nurses are nice they helped me when I had a bad stomach ache and they saved by friends brothers life thanks so much CHEO we love you!

Brittany Lauzon

Love this hospital. Big supporter and monthly donor. I gave a 3 star as I have been here for over 6 hours in emerg with my 3 year old waiting to talk to a doctor. I get there are emergencies that bump people but its almost 3am and I haven't seen one doctor walk by my daughters room in hours. Over 6 hour waits are extremely frustrating, especially when the doctor comes and talks to you for 5 minutes and sends you home ( my daughter was knocked unconscious from a fall off our couch). Never have I waited so long in any hospital. Just crazy

Shaun Guilfoyle

The triage nurses do not listen, I tried to explain what I was told to pass on from my doctor who sent me to this circus. I was told what I was saying was irrelevant and to be quiet. I was then told my 19 month olds son breathing issues were not serious and only "slightly labored" we then waited while he suffered so far for 4 hours. I know the doctors are fantastic but the process leading up to seeing them is broken and stupid. No baby/toddler/child should have to wait in a packed room for hours suffering.

Champagnophile

If there is no star to give, I would give no star or negative. If your kid is sick and you want them to be treated or alive, never go to CHEO, especially emergency. Go to Queensway Carleton or Montfort or other community hospitals as they accept kids. When my older son had a cut on face, ER doctor didn't know how to suture and was extremely nervous to shake hands so much, two nurses had to stay, one to make Dr relaxed and the other directed Dr how to suture. 7 stitches took an hour. No apologies from anyone there. Of course scar has been left on his cheek. Younger son has had numerous specialists appointments here. Average waiting time seems to be over 3-4 hours. Some staffs are rude and ill-mannered. Obnoxiously disorganized and chaotic all the time.

Gholamreza Ghasemitirabadi (Reza)

We ended up leaving the ER after waiting for 6 hours and not seeing any doctor. My worst experience ever. No updates on waiting time. Slow inexperienced doctors at night. No empathy. No body cares that people are waiting hours and hours.

Kim Alcock

We had to make an unfortunate trip to the ER for one of our kids this week and I am blown away with the team. Everyone there are very compassionate, helpful and great with children. The rooms and bathrooms are super clean. They turned what supposed to be a nightmare visit much more fun for our 1yr old. The wait could be brutal, but they have an online link for virtual visit and to view the wait time. Overall, we are happy with CHEO. Hopefully we won't have to make any more trips, but I thought we should let everyone know how amazing CHEO staff are, even during the pandemic.

Aleksandar Krumov

Kind, caring and surprisingly fast. Went to CHEO with a potential concussion of my daughter. The whole experience took around two hours. Personnel was great and the hospital looked very calming for the kids. Doctor approach was positive and with needed qualified advice after the tests. Hope I don't need to go there again but if I do I'd be calm and relaxed knowing that my kids are in good hands.

All I can say is God bless all the stuff @ the diabetes clinic and dr. Hadjiyannakis is the best doctor ????‍⚕️ in the face of our planet ????. God bless and protect them all.❤️

Brody Flannigan

I can't say just how impressed I was with the care I received yesterday and earlier today at CHEO. Even though I was discharged with no clear diagnosis, everyone was really trying to get to the cause of my pain (I fully understand why they weren't able to give an immediate diagnosis, my symptoms were very odd). Shout out to everyone who made me confortable and provided me with great, (mostly) fast service, including: Sasha (ED), Sarah (Ultrasound), Dr. Nazeer, Dr. Fischer (Both ED), Dr. Byrns, Dr. Bass and Dr. Pastor (All three in surgery), as well as porter Robert and Catherine in the pharmacy. Most importantly though; huge kudos to nurses Jessica, Alexandra and Feb on the west 4th floor who made me feel at home at CHEO. You guys are awesome. Stay cool!

morteza rabeie

We came here to use emergency services for my daughter, after 9 hourse waiting over night, all of us are so tired, they still have no doctors to see us, one of my worst experiences in hospital, never recommend it, but very kind people and did good job

Marcos Rezende

Iulian Turcanu

Went there with my 5 year old. Amazing doesn't come close to describing all the wonderful people that work there. Thank you all - doctors, nurses, orderlies and all of the great staff at CHEO. Having your child in emergency surgery is hardly a positive experience, but the professionals at CHEO make it as painless (in all senses) as possible.

David Bessette

Mark Schmidt

We've always had a great experience here with the doctors whenever we've had to take our children in for a medical appointment. The facilities are maintained in good condition and all the staff I've dealt with have been friendly and courteous.

I think the emergency staff were kind, supportive, and very professional. Way better bedside manner than other places.

I stabbed my pp so i went here, great stuff

Peng Zhang

This hospital for kids and youths are very good. Kids are taken care of very well. Kind staff.

Marcus Carter

The docters are very kind, I dident like was that I had a gash on my head and I had to sit in a wait room with nothing to do for 2 hours and 30 minutes. And then we came out of the wait room to do something with one of the kind docters and then went back in the wait room for another 45 minutes.

Backtash Haleem

EXCuse Meh

Great service if you're condition is life-threatening but anything less than that, expect semi-acceptable to bad service.

LtFirefighter

Very friendly people/staff however only 3 stars because my experience with them keeping close to the appointment schedule is horrible. My last visit was over two hours late and, as i write this, we are now entering our 2nd hour after our scheduled appointment. Parking is extremely expensive here so there should be a rebate for them being so late!!

Deez Nutz

Good staff while my son was there, knowledgeable surgent, and kind staff

Cheo is one of the best hospitals i've ever been to. Nice and caring staff, great facilities, and the general hospiltal is a only a 10 minute walk. Very good.

Anonymous Trollz

Born with hypoglycaemia transferred to Toronto when I was 3 months then transferred back to Cheo they took care of me for 16+ years of my life and still look after me every 3 months (I was diagnosed with diabetes at 10 years old) really grateful for all their help and support. CHEO if you see this Thanks for everything!

Alisha Beauchamp

My daughter needed heart surgery and the doctors at cheo are some of the best ones out there! She is recoved and is doing amazing! Cheo is by far the best children's Hospital!

AWFUL x-ray experience with a 2 yo. The lab tech forced the sick toddler's arms above his head and tied him up in a plastic tube until nearly immobile. While the boy cried and struggled, he was shoved face first into a wall (the x-ray board) where he couldn't see anyone else. No explanation, no soothing. If that was an adult, it would have been considered extremely inappropriate. I was stunned and nearly lost my mind just watching. To provide a contrast for those that falsely think it was necessary, I had taken my son to the Almonte hospital a day prior for the same issue. They had also done chest x-rays. However, they explained what was needed, talked nicely to the boy and just had me wear a lead vest and hold my sons hands up. He stood on the floor and looked up at me over the board that he stood against. Civilized and professional. Not all kids may be that patient or amenable but for a centre of excellence in dealing with children, CHEO should have at least tried a polite way first. The other hospital treated my 2 yo for bronchiolitis and let us go. The boy digressed the next afternoon and we brought him to CHEO, as recommended. CHEO treated him for an asthma attack brought on by the virus. It took A LONG TIME to get released and the boy was breathing better but was not recovering sufficiently. Almonte followed up with us after having Radiologists review the x-rays and they determined that he had an infection/ pneumonia in his left lung. They provided immediate access to medication and my son swiftly recovered. End of the day, CHEO did not properly diagnose and the experience of having 2 simple x-rays left my child slightly traumatized. Every child they do that to is not receiving optimal treatment and is only being made more distrustful of future medical providers. I could not be more disappointed in my expectations. Teach your x-ray techs to deal with kids, CHEO.

The forecasted 1.5 hours waiting time changed to 6 hours. This is a monster eating tons of tax payer’s money without generating quality service.

Thanks CHEO for being there for everything from a minor infection to a fracture requiring surgery.

We came with our 18th month old daughter who was registered with a 40 degree fever, during the intake my wife said she mentioned she was occasionally constipated. I'm not going to generalize the quality of the entire hospital but our experience with emg was horrible. Due to COVID I had to wait outside, which is fine But my wife + child waited 4 hours, from around 9.30pm to close to 2am, and they placed our daughter with everyone else (this seems really bad practice as fever is a COVID symptom, luckily our daughter didn't have COVID, but if she did, kids could have been infected). No one came to get her or see how our daughter was doing... and after waiting 4 hours my wife decided to just leave, as our daughter couldn't rest, crying, etc.. and both of them was getting warn down (if you have a 18 month old sick child you'll know waiting 4+ hours is UNACCEPTABLE. We managed the night with Tylenol and taking her to the pediatrician next morning asap)... A couple days later, I checked the "My Chart" and it said we came in for constipation.. what a JOKE... UNACCEPABLE.... I hope you guys do better, as this is the only children hospital in Ottawa... SAD... This CAN'T be the standard... I thought this is a developed country, where does my friggin tax dollars go, I've been to "3rd world" countries that offer better service and care. Either offer a friggin private option or do something about this.

William Wang

I was wait here about 10 hours here. From 8 pm to next day morning 7am.

Amazing Staff. Thank you.

WOW! Was in and out within 30 mins. My 5 year old has a bad fever. His doctor's clinic's urgent care is full. Other walk-ins weren't answering their phones. Decided on CHEO because of good past experiences. We saw a doctor 5 minutes after registering with a nurse. I am so impressed. This wasn't our first time at the hospital. Every visit proves this hospital provides superior and timely care to children. Ohhhhh CANADAAAAA ????????

Alysha Walker

I'm too old to go to cheo now but I miss it. Everyone there was super nice

Frank Duan

The staff are rude, long long long waiting time. Very noisy and crowd waiting area ... Very bad experiences!!!

Considering the amount of traffic this place receives, it is a clean and well organized location that is a credit to the hard-working people within the health care system.

If you are a parent, this is the most amazing place in the world. Feel lucky to have this hospital right in our hometown!

What a mess of a place! The receptionists are void of any empathy and nobody takes responsibility for their words. One doctor says one thing and the week after another doctor says the opposite and then again. Completely unorganized and get a child's hopes up and crash it carelessly....3 times!!!!

Great hospital! I have yet to have a negative experience here.

Outstanding staff, equipment and facilities.

A “Onceuponatime” C

From long time a go they're not a good hospital, some departments work great but just a few. They don't listen to what a parent can say it's just be served and go. No empathy no real knowledge of autism. Lack of the ethic they should have as health care workers. Don't blame covid, this was like this long before. Some parents never complain because of retaliation. Anyway thanks too those who work very hard.

Alyssa Barrett

Very friendly, clean and good doctors

Balaharish Chandrasekaran

The entire Healthcare system stinks. My child was crying the whole night and they took 7 hrs to treat him. This is unacceptable by any standards. Only one doctor overnight to attend to treat patients is miserable.

I came to CHEO with a very small fracture in my left radius, and from the time I entered the ER to the time I left with my arm immobilized, I had only been there for about an hour and 45 minutes! I’m 16 and I appreciate that they treated me like so, and asked me questions directly! Amazing, professional, and fast service throughout the entirety of my visit, thank you!

The hospital care for children is superb. But the hospital is meant for just that. Children. Most children have families, father and a mother, so you'd think the hospital would have enough beds for a mother and father. There are just as many couples as there are single parents. We are from out of town and can't afford awhole lot of extras. Over heard the nurse talking and she as saying, ohh we are under funded so they can figure it out, they as in me a.d my girlfriend... im pretty sure thats why we pay taxes lady.. dont make the governments problem sound like my fault. I do my part. It would be nice to either sleep on a big enough bed to share or have 2 pull out chairs... Least the young lad is in a good spot. Sucks cuz im up, and sitting in a plastic chair for a bed.. either that or a cold hard floor

David Lubo

it was great there so friendly and they always welcome there vistors it's a great place

Made the difficult decision to take my daughter (who was in a lot of pain) last night because we couldn't get into any clinics and our family doctor retired earlier this year. We were taken in and given a room in emerg very quickly. A resident doctor came in to ask questions and administered a covid test. A bit later the doctor came in to examine her and left without saying much. 30ish minutes later a nurse popped her head in to toss some medicine on the counter and said "she can take this" and left. That was at 9:15pm and then we didn't hear from anyone until I grew so frustrated I hit the call button for an update around 5:00am. Turns out they forgot about us and closed our file. A nurse informed us that we could have left at 9:30 the previous night. We never received a diagnosis, instructions or notice that we were being let go. I am so frustrated and angry with the lack of care my daughter was given, I am in the process of lodging a formal complaint.

People at the reception/information are rude and lacking professionalism , sending time gossiping and caring for people looking for orientation and info, what I experienced today was terrible, I went to cheo with my doctor’s referral letter to get my 2 months baby blood test, I approached the receptionists, they were gossiping and werevembarrassed when I asked for the lab location, they advised me to get to emergency entry, which was at the opposite of the building , it’s pouring outside , I was pushing baby stroller I got totally wet ,when I entered the emergency building and spoke to people in triage , they told me I had to go through the main entrance, I explained to the it’s the employees in the main entrance who recommended me to go to the emergency entrance ,they got astonished, anyway they have been so helpful and they entertained me properly, Then I went back to the main entrance and spoke again to the employees asking them why they sent me to the emergency entrance while the lab was just next to them, the answered they didn’t understand the referral letter relevant department?!!!, Really such people should never been hired to work at cheo.

Lwin Albandi

Even if you have strong pain it's ok no problem at the end after 7 hours the doctor will give you Advil there's nothing serious for them , for management staff you should remove sign of emergency because emergency means you must take action for urgent cases right away.

Doctors, nurses and staff are courteous, professional and compassionate. Certainly helps while your child is suffering of an illness. Thank You!????

I had to come to CHEO for bladder problems for 7 yrs and had to do exercises and stuff. In urology with doctor Clode I think her name is. I mean she’s a nurse but yeah. And once when I fractured my wrist the people in the rooms were really nice same with when I had to do ultrasounds dr. Clode helped me through a lot and I rlly want to thank her I can’t think of anything that can thank her though for what she has don’t for me same with all the people who did ultrasounds in me and actually made it fun and named it something weird Jelly Belly I think or something like that to and one who works at CHEO can u plzz show this to dr. Clode and all the doctors that helped me in the past 7 yrs. this is the also the place that encouraged me to want to become some type of dr. even when we were late to an appointment we would always get in right away and not have to wait until there is a spot or reschedule for another appointment. Thank u to all staff in urology that helped me through all this

Great and Excellent

Seeing the world In a different way

Located on 401 Smyth Road is a major hospital complex that includes the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). CHEO is fantastic and the staff, nurses, doctors do amazing things. No parent wants to see their child go to hospital, but if they do, this is the best place for them to go to. CHEO staff not only care for your child, they also empathize and do their best to care for families as well.

Mathieu Gauthier

Always kind and polite staff. My sons always been treated nicely and no problem at all. Very recommended. Thanks for all the help.

I'm waiting with my son now for more than 5 hours and we are waiting in a room for more than an hour with no update or whatsoever. My son is only 16months old and has 40 degree fever...nobody even checks whether he needs anything... what a terrible place for a kid to be....honestly what is that?? is this supposed to be a health care service??? I am giving it a few more minutes and then I'm gone, my baby can better rest in bed than being stuck here for hours and hours with no care in sight. Apparently there is no difference between an adult or child care hospital....same story but different labeling...

The staff here is always so great. Waited about 90 minutes to see a doctor. Everyone from the nurses to doctors to the cleaning staff are friendly to the kids.

Sheldon McGregor

Staff is great most of the time.. but the hospital is very poorly managed and I've seen the wait times increase each time I visited. currently I'm still waiting to see a doctor for my son is arrived at 11pm and it 7am and we still have not seen a doctor. My advice avoid and pay for a walk in clinic if possible...

Edit: This review is more of a rant on Ottawa's healthcare system. I understand the hard work put in by wonderful staff at CHEO and thanks for that. Hopefully, this review is taken in the right spirit and some action is taken in the long term by the government. Original review: As a developed country, it is highly shameful for Canada to consider such waiting periods as "acceptable" in lieu of free health care. I don't blame this hospital. The shortage of family physicians in the city leads every caring parent to rush to ER. This is an epic failure of Ottawa's health system. No, the pandemic didn't cause this. It was apparently like this even before the pandemic. Equitable and free healthcare access is what we must be proud of in Canada but it must not come at the cost of such long wait times for kids ER (6-9 hours). Nowhere in the developed world is this acceptable by any standards. Nowhere. In the developed world.

Anik M. Rahman

Been to lots of hospitals in Canada and this is hands down one of the best, the staff are super friendly and accommodating, best part is you get to watch FRIENDS/BIG BANG THEORY While the MRI scan is ongoing! Keep up the good work! Only complain is the affordability of the parking, 1.5 hours costed around $15, found it little pricey!

Jayonta Bhattacharjee

I was here for an Emergency of my Son. I am happy with their service and professional behaviour. All the staffs were good with friendly behaviour and smiley face.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this hospital after my second visit. My first time at this hospital with was with my daughter she was treated for pneumonia, we had no issues at all I brought her in and she got treated we were sent home and told that if her cough got any worse to bring her back in. Three days later I brought my daughter back because she was coughing up blood, we get up to registration and they ask her some questions, asked me some questions and I am informed at this time that if she needs a procedure done I am not able to sign for her. I am told that this is the hospitals policy because I am not her father and because I have not adopted her I am not able to give permission for her to receive any procedures whether it be a life-saving procedure or not. I have been this little girl's father since she was in diapers and in just a couple of months she will be 12 years old, I love her as if she's mine and we don't talk about her not being mine, we don't discuss that and in fact this is the first time ever we've really had anybody else bring it up to us. My daughter looked at me with an odd look and said but you are my dad. We were both really caught off guard by this and we were humiliated. We live 2 hours away from this hospital and if mom was home with the other three children like most other nights someone needs to see a doctor and I was not allowed to sign for her to have a procedure done if she needed one what would we do? this is ridiculous. I am this little girls stepfather yes but I love her like she is my own and she loves me like I'm her dad, she doesn't know much of a world without me and I wouldn't want a world without her, I feel the hospital policy needs to be reviewed and changed, this was all needless humiliation.

Hospital is always the last place you want to go, especially this one, once I’ve got rashes all over the body (it wasn’t allergies), went to hospitals FOUR times and waited for over 5 hours each time and overnight. During the 4 visits, the diagnosis is different EVERY TIME I went, they keep sending me all kinds of medicines including antibiotics and creams to apply on the body. Then they made up an appointment with a dermatologist AFTER MY SYMPTOMS ARE GONE, how ridiculous, and finally they said they are still not sure about what I was having......

We are extremely lucky to have access to the best medical facility here in Ottawa. CHEO is an amazing hospital. I have had to use CHEO a number of times over the years with my children and most recently for my son's leg injury. The nurses and doctors are very attentive and gave us the best medical care. Well done!!

Nour Almoala

I went to Cheo last night to be checked. Upon my arrival I already had a horrible experience. The registered nurse was an absolute nightmare. I felt completely disrespected as she would throw remarks such as “oh don’t over react” “oh my god, your not going to die tonight you will live another night” “ I’m just trying to be paid my hourly wage I really don’t care” “ Your fine you’ll probably get sick from the germs here rather than from whatever you have” and so much more!!! There was no sanitary mesures being taken what so ever with pushy and rude staff. I waited over 5 hours and I was never even acknowledged. After working a 10 hour shift earlier I was exhausted and could no longer wait. Their website indicates the longest wait time is 5 hours however I waited longer than that and was not seen by anyone. I left the hospital that night and was forced to sleep through my pain. Is this supposed to be Canada’s amazing health care service? My biggest concern is that this is Cheo A CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. There was one doctor working seeing over 50 patients. We thought the experience would be smoother taking account of this while if anything, it was way worse than the general hospital that sees adults who can somewhat manage. I would never come back to Cheo regardless of the circumstances because they will only downplay your problems and not tend even to serious issues in proper time frames.

I am very disappointed that there is no place to nurse my baby at emergency at cheo. My baby was very sick and will not nurse in public and when I asked for a room to nurse my baby I was told there was no room. I was going to resort to nursing my baby on the toilet but the bathrooms were disgusting. So my sick baby could not eat or drink for hours. I would think a children's hospital has a nursing room. Even Wal-Mart, the museum and most places do!

Marie Carry

My daughter was brought to CHEO by ambulance in March due to a seizure while shopping. When we got there I asked the nurse if this seizure had anything to do with a previous concussion she had in Feb. Answer was no!!!!!. When we saw the doctor he indicated to me that we had been there 22 times. Understand I live outside of Ottawa and if we need any service we go to our local emergency. I think we have been to CHEO a grand total of maybe 10 times with appointments and once to their emergency when she had a virus of some sort. So already I am upset and wondering if they have the right chart. Finally had an EEG with the understanding at the time of this appointment we would be seeing a neurologist. To my dismay we did not they said they did not have an appt. for her. We saw our family doctor the next week and he made the referral. Contacted Neurology dept today and was told she was semi-priority and there was not appt yet as the Neurologist decided who was a priority is .. I would not be so upset if it was not for the lack of respect for parents and patient ( my daughter is so worried and upset because she does not know why she feels the way she does and if she is going to get better). This seizure came out of the blue no problems before.. I just hope this is nothing serious...... If I treated my clients as you do I would be fired.

Poor service at Emergency section after 5 hours they take action, i don't understand Emergency what's mean for them ! ! Who's at emergency section it mean that have urgent case should take action as soon as possible.

This hospital is very poorly managed. The visit took way longer than it needed to. Got in at 9:00 am and left around 11:00 pm because they didn't want to do a simple blood test to confirm my daughter's diagnosis. Instead, they sent us to ultrasound after ultrasound and radiology where the technicians couldn't confidently find what they were looking for. My daughter suffered for long hours simply because of hospital mismanagement. I can't imagine this hospital actually being able to address a life or death situation. I also saw a nurse treat a teenage patient with unbelievable callousness and cruelty. The boy could't walk due to debilitating pain and wanted a wheelchair. She told him that he was out of luck because the chair requires someone to push it for him. The poor boy was crawling around and nobody would help him.

Mary Grace

Every time was walked in to emergency excellent care and service was provided. This review is for the appointment booking team. We were booked appointment twice with out our knowldege and confirmation. Doctor call us directly to our suprise and we not being aware or kids with us. Then get accused of we not being ready and will cancel apts. Herr we are eagerly and patiently waiting for our kids to be looked and easily blamed to be careless inspite of looking into the booking procedure and tracking it. So much confusion Nd my heart aches now I have to wait for few months again to be called.

MD

The ER waiting room was absolutely congested with barely any seats left, and it smelled very bad. We had to stand in the corridor, but a lady approached us and asked us to go inside the waiting room, and when I explained to her that the room is full and it is too congested, she insisted rudely on going inside. I asked her if there is any other waiting area that we could use, and she said NO! I told her that the room is too crowded and my child might even catch a virus (since my child is also sick and have low immune system), she insisted rudely again and said that everyone is the same!!!!! If the hospital clearly has an issue with the size of the waiting area, then they should create a larger space, and provide proper ventilation system in the room. No one wants their kids to come in with what could be something minor and turn into something serious in the hospital. All associates at the hospital were overwhelmed with the number of patients coming in, and they are doing their best to serve everyone, but they should be more considerate to the parents and sick children with their approach.

Patseglal

I don't have kids, but I respect what this place does. It's a crucial part of Ottawa and I'm sure many parents are extremely happy to have such a great institution in this city.

Google User

You're taking a serious risk sending your child there. Extremely hazardous spreading of contamination, scheduling nightmares, improper use of PPE and constant lack of proper communication between departments. Go to Sick Kids in Toronto if it's anything you don't want mishandled.

Great hospital. I’ve gone there all my life a lot of my old doctors would say hi to me in the halls. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable.

ER is poorly managed. 10 inner waiting rooms with patients and parents plus the big waiting room with several patients, no doctor was working cuz it’s late night. They told me there was one doctor, but I checked each waiting room and nurse station. There was NO doctor! We arrived at 12:00 am. 4 hours later still no doctor spotted across the hall.

Waiting in the car since 9:30pm July 21, 2021. Outside of CHEO emergency in parking lot and it is now 3:21am July 22, 2021. Yes that is right, almost 6 hours, my wife and daughter were registered before 9:30pm July 21 2021 and nurse mentioned it will be around 2-2.5 hrs wait. We do not visit hospital generally to know what's norm, nor are we from this area to know how long is the wait in general. All I know is that this is ridiculous and these standards should not be acceptable anywhere unless you are living in a cave.

Basma Altaie

We got an appointment for my daughter and they told us we have to arrive 15 minutes earlier. When we arrived there was a sign that says your waiting will take between 2-4 hours. Are you kidding? I rushed from my work to be sure that we we arrive 15 minutes earlier. It was so disappointing for my daughter and me as well that we waited that long ????

Jay Grewal

All i can say is Absolutely horrible. We came yesterday at 9:30pm due to our 2 and a half old son having a high fever/coughing and were just told by a family friend that he may have been exposed to covid. Around 2 am i came in to ask my wife if they did a covid test and she said no. I went to ask the nurse and he asked me if we wanted it we can do it? During triage we had already indicated that he may have been exposed. waited until the next day at 10:30am where the doctor saw our son Within 5 mins told my wife to continue advil/tynenol for the next 3 days and come back. We went home and that same day at night (today) our son fever spiked up and he almost fainted about 3-4 times so we called the ambulance. Get here for 8pm and till now (1:15am) my son has a fever but keep being told that we have to wait. Only thing that has been done since we got here was triage and 1 temperature check. We were told even last night that supposedly there is only a doctor on call from 12am-6am so no doctors on premises during those hours. We pay an arm and a leg in taxes where does that money go? Instead of spending 600 million on an election that wasnt needed how about hiring more doctors? Absolutely ridiculous if you come here make sure to pack lots of food and bring coffee (vending machines dont work either)

Today, Tuesday June 22, 2021, I booked for my child to see a virtual doctor. The doctor was a woman, she looked as if she didn't want to be there, she ignored us completely. I could not understand what she was saying, she spoke with an accent, she was wearing a mask and she made no effort to articulate or even ask if I understood her. She was bored to death, she was playing with her hair, she was looking at the ceiling. I should have gone to Appletree instead.

Michael Woo

Strung along for a 10 hour wait. Started with "its just 3 hrs".. Ended with "we only have 1 doctor working". It's always the same here. Better to go anywhere else.

Angel-Rita Lepage

-0 stars if I could, WORST hospital ever and HORRIBLE staff. Every time we or my friends/family go there, they ALWAYS turn everyone away regardless the reason, they obviously don't care about the children/patients if they keep turning people away often enough and not actually doing their job to HELP... Constantly the worst experiences ever with this hospital by far

Great staff! My son stayed 3 nights after tonsils and adenoidectomy, over the Easter weekend, the Bunny found us! Super nurses and support staff! Keep it up!

I'm not too sure why CHEO is the way it is now. I don't know if its because of Covid or what. A couple months ago I was waiting at CHEO with my child for 10 hours, because they were down to only 1 doctor in Emergency. Secondly, a lot of the special appointments had been moved to virtual and my child actually needs to be seen by a specialist in person. We've had 2 scheduled in person appointments that changed to unnecessary virtual appointments and each one I had the doctor stated that my child needed to be seen in person. My child's condition is worsening and the doctor I spoke to over the phone spent no more than 1 minute with me and he blames CHEO for this change. It's extremely scary to think that a child could spend months without seeing a doctor for a worsening condition, or wait over 10 hours to be seen at a children hospital. This is in the nations capital too. Where is the tax money going to? Houses and lotteries?

C G

The staff here are angels and I cannot thank you enough for everything you do!

Rebecca Anderson

If there was an option for a zero then that would be my answer. This childrens hospital isnt helpful and they are not invested in family and children. A politician running the hospital? DO NOT GO TO CHEO FOR MENTAL HEALTH. We were told our child's case was "complex". At the age of 13 CHEO has written him off. Our child's mental and physical health our now destroyed!!!

Cara Jelley

Worst experience ever, waited for a doctor for over 6 hours and never came. There was no Nurses or doctors around. Waited from 10pm to 4am at emergency then left because the place was empty from staff. Other patients were looking around for help but nobody was around. I would never come back here or recommend anyone waste there time. Not worth the stress because there staff is so rude if you do find someone to talk too.

5-star for world class doctors, supporting staffs and facilities. 1- star for administration During our 1-month stay at the hospital they moved us around 6 different rooms in 22 days, we refused to let them move us 8 days before we left the hospital other wise we would have stayed in 7 different rooms in 30 days. I hope the reason was due to bad administration and not something else.

I am not from Ottawa so my expectations and experiences differ from locals. When compared to the City I live in, Ottawa has an exceptional children's hospital. The staff are so many wonderful things, but knowledgeable stands out to me. The staff in all departments I have had to deal with: doctors, nurses, attendants, parking and security have all been exceptionally great. I know our grandson is getting wonderful care.

Today I drove from casselman to ottawa to attend an appointment for my 1 year old that was scheduled many months ago, just to be turned away at the door. Why? Because I also had his 3 year old brother there. Ridiculous. They told me because of the pandemic they cannot accommodate an extra sibling even though the rooms are big enough and I'm supposed to find alternative care. How am I supposed to find alternative care in the middle of a pandemic being a single parent of 3. It's bad enough I already left my 12 year old home by himself, I'm supposed to leave a 3 year old too? I drove 40 minutes with 2 kids (1 and 3) during what was supposed to be nap time just to get turned away. I'm beyond upset with CHEO constantly failing single parents. /end rant

Well, I heard a good one last night. A woman who had been staying with her daughter overnight for a few nights prior to last night, was going to see her daughter and bring her a few things from home. She paid for a taxi and everything. Arrived at the hospital as normal. She went through reception and COVID screening with no problems, had a bracelet placed on her wrist, and was about to go see her child. However, when she became a little bit lost in the facility and took a few mins too long to find the elevator to go up to her child's floor, she was aggressively approached by an authority figure who wanted to pretend he was a security guard and asked her a bunch of intrusive personal information questions about herself and the nature of her visit. She cooperated with him and told him that the nurses had asked her to bring some personal items from home for her daughter and both the nurses and her daughter were expecting her. He said that he had just talked to the nurses on her daughter's floor (which is highly doubtful) and that they said nobody is allowed up there. He then threatened to call the police on her if she didn't leave immediately and told her she is not allowed to come back there again either. He said if she wants to see her daughter then she should use a Zoom Call while he proceeded to escort her out the door of the building. I guess this is the part where the owner will regurgitate the same old tired message of the complaints being important to him and taken seriously and then referred to the "Patient and Family Representative" It's basically his only real recourse. Along with the email address he is also so proud of. Is this the great CHEO? The CHEO we are constantly hounded to donate money to. The CHEO which is bragged about on the News and held up as a cornerstone of our society? Maybe on top of calling the numbers that the owner is so obsessed with, maybe she should actually call a different number as well. The number of a good lawyer!

Amanda Richard

We were referred to cheo for neurology and they were amazing!!! The doctor and nurse were both super receptive and caring which is more than I can say for other hospitals in the area.

Hi

Went to this hospital for precaution as I had eaten a touched my face with something I am allergic to. Got there and was triaged quickly. Nurse was nice and all. Went to the waiting room and waited, waited and waited. There was not a single doctor anywhere and only 3 nurses. During the 4 hours I waited not one person from the waiting room was called. When I finally got called in it was quick and easy.

My daughter Sophie is 11 and is medically fragile and sees many different specialties at CHEO. She underwent major surgery in June 2021. Her surgeons orthoedic surgeon Dr Smith and neurosurgeon Dr Tsu were amazing answering questions, keeping us updated and simply doing an amazing job. The last few weeks, we have had ct's and a myelogram. Specials thanks to the nurses and technicians all providing amazing care and taking a few minutes to engage Sophie. We met with her anestheologist yesterday Dr Ramsay. She is so kind, engaging and takes the time to engage her patients and in my opinion greatly decreased the psychological trauma that some of these visits can cause a child. She took the time to build a special bandage for her iv a snowman which is now on Sophie's bear for his broken leg as it makes her stuffy smile she tells me, this just brought tears of joy to my eyes. I'm not sure that people are aware of how these gestures change an experience for the better. Lastly I'd like to make a special thanks to her radiologist Dr. Abdeen, he took the time to decrease my anxiety by explaining the procedure, after he came to tell me that it went well, when I told him we were seeing the mobility team the next day, he told me he would read the pictures that evening, it was already well after 4. We were discharged and he called me and told me we were missing a picture to get all the answers we needed so he asked us to go back as the contrast in her back through a lumbar puncture was still active. I cannot say how happy I am that he is so good at his job and that he cares about his patients. This extra stepped saved us a 12 hour round trip, a anesthetic and a procedure. Sophie and I appreciate the team at CHEO and we want to tell you all a big THANK YOU from the Desilets'. Also special thanks to Dr Smith who took the time yesterday even if we didn't have an appointment to come say hi to Sophie just so she wo, I tell you she smiled right until she fell asleep.ld see a face she knows before the procedure.

Can not explain more than what have been previously mentioned by others. Same nightmare when any of kids falls sick and me thinking about the waiting time which will make my kids go through a situation which can be really avoided if the hospital can hire more doctors. All staff are nice and helpful but this is a hospital which means as a staff u need to do the extra effort to make ppl feel better by any mean. If it's an adult I wont even think but for the kids it is hard. No updates, no one ask anything, nothing even explained u end up waiting.

My daughter who is 12 experienced a very distressing situation over the weekend during her time in the company of her Mother, who is a nurse at the civic hospital. My daughter was admitted to the mental health unit at which I observed the members of staff failing to make the best use of time and resources. I entirely felt as though the staff members ( Jason Gunn and Veronic Gagnon ) were incompetent and failed to take care of my daughter properly. They functioned in a very amateurish process and appeared awkward. As a Father i felt utterly troubled, upset, and unhappy with the service they provided. They did not make us feel safe, we did not feel as though my daughter was protected. Awful way to feel in a place that is intended to foster physical health.

Multi visit Rated 2 will edit and update post regarding rating. 2star for the minimal staff that deserves 5 but 1 star for efficacy of how the hospital operates.

Not overly happy. I was here yesterday and was told I would have to wait more then and hr for a prescription. I had my daughter with me and decided it was too long of a wait and that I would come back the following morning. I was told by the pharmacy that the hrs for the following day were 10-4pm. I got here around 11:10 to find the pharmacy closed. When I asked at reception I was told that sometimes they open as late as 12noon!Why have hrs of operation If you don’t stick to them. I have no choice but to get my medication here. Instead of being in and out and not paying for parking, I am now stuck here waiting and will likely have to pay $14 for parking.

I came with my 15 month old with high fever over 40, was seen by triage and baby was given Advil, we were seen 4 hours later and sent home after 5 hours with instructions to continue tyelnol and advil for 3-4 days and to come back if fever still persists. I need to come in tomorrow because fever is still ongoing, please dont let babies wait for that long. Me, as an adult have no problem but this is supposed to be emergency. You cant send us home without full check up to identify the cause of fever, give our kids better please. This review is by no means targeted towards the staff, but more about the system. Expand this hospital please.

This place is fabulous beyond words! This is a letter I wrote after my daughter received treatment there. My Dear Daughter Fatima, God Willing, one day you will be of age to read this letter – and when you do – promise me that you will never forget these heartfelt words from your lovingfather. In 1982, while I was 2 years old, your grandparents made the decision to leave war-torn Lebanon, to give us, their children and eventual grandchildren, opportunities for a better life. Beyond the incredible Healthcare, services, and peaceful life that make it so great, Canada is home to some of the most compassionate, warm, loving, and welcoming families I have come across in my life. Having called Canada home for the past 36 years, I have always cherished how blessed we were to have migrated here but it wasn’t until you fell ill that I fully comprehended the extent of that BLESSING. My beloved daughter, your journey began with a series of health challenges. On August 23, 2018, at just 7 weeks old, your mother and I rushed you to CHEO – the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Your face was pale, your lips were blue, you were dehydrated and losing weight at a rate of 100g/day. We were literally watching you fade away. I do not know how we made it to the hospital. I can still hear the echo of your mother’s screams begging God not to take you away. This was our dire situation. Once at CHEO, you were given immediate medical attention by a group of very caring and dedicated professionals. After thorough examination and IV re-hydration, you were admitted to the 5th floor. This became our home for the next 18 nights. I have to tell you my Dear Fatima, there is nothing more difficult for a parent than to helplessly witness the suffering of their child. The first two nights at the hospital were beyond draining and miserable. I could not bear to look at you in this state, our sweet little angel lacking the strength to move her body or to open her eyes. Your cries were tearless and your fontanelle was deeply sunken. Those painful and sleepless first 48 hours were spent in prayers for your recovery. These prayers did not go unanswered. Angels in the form of Physicians, Specialists, Nurses, Dietitians, and Volunteers kept you safe! Their level of care, their understanding, and their empathy is indescribable. They went well beyond and above the call of duty in providing the attention you needed. My eyes would tear when the kind Physicians would compliment you during their examinations. Or when the nurses would pick you up, cuddle you, and caress you as if you were their own. I have seldom experienced that level of care and compassion. There are no words that can express our gratitude to the CHEO staff, and to all the family and friends who supported us through this eye-opening experience. By the 19th day, with round-the-clock care and love, you were healthy enough to go. You recovered faster than first anticipated and the Physicians called you their success story! The joy in their eyes was priceless! As if that wasn’t enough, that joy was met with more unexpected kindness. The hospital volunteers wouldn’t let you go that easy. They gifted you beautiful handmade souvenirs! We’ve kept themsafe for you and now you can place them on your totem pole. Loyalty and gratitude are some of the most important teachings your grandparents passed down. In turn, you now hold that torch. Canada is our home and our family, and there is no place like home and no substitute for family. Be a model citizen, give back wholeheartedly, and please keep that promise to never forget that day in 1982 when Canada opened its arms to welcome us, cause I certainly haven't. (Dear Canada and CHEO, we are forever indebted to you..) Your loving father, Wissam Assaad (and family)

This hospital has been awesome to my family 26 years ago they saved my son and have been great with my other 4 children

Visiting to the emergency room today around 5:30-6pm. Still waiting to see a doctor 11:41pm. The reason being here because my daughter's day care have two positive covid case and she's having a fever and running nose, so I figure that would be emergency but guess not, we are still waiting for a doctor, time now 11:45pm

You must have the patience of Buddha when you visit the Emergency ward. The Emergency ward should be renamed Emerge ward for the people at CHEO have no understanding of the urgency in Emergency. Come along with 2, if possible 3 meals and be prepared to wait a loooooooooooongg time. They will gladly remind you that you have 'just' spent only some few hours and you have it good. Fear not, you will ultimately be duly serviced but the wait experience is enough to keep your kids in good health forever.

Great Hospital and great staff only if you go there without having a sense of ENTITLEMENT.... i waited 3 hours from 1 AM Till 4 AM for the doctor to see my 2 year old daughter but She got the BEST care I couldnt have imagined...

Worst ER experience. Took my 2 month preemie child who was recently discharged from the NICU. Triage nurse was extremely cold and said its 7 plus hrs wait time! My child was in such a pain after waiting for an hr we decided to leave. This is a ridiculous health care system. 3rd world countries have far better health care system where you can go and get ur child check in no time. 7 hrs of wait time is for an emergency is cruel. Bring more doctors, improve your system else close the so called ER.

Rabih Haddad

Visiting emergency department is a disaster. The nurses and doctors there have the coldest blood in the whole world. They literally see one patient every 2 hours. They deserve the world record in coldness.

My daughter took her son to Cheo by ambulance on December 18 at 10:30 pm. She was told by parametric he was having a seizure due to high fever. Upon arrival she went In a waiting room holding her son waiting for a room. She didn't get a room until 7 am calling a nurse when she felt her son was getting hotter. Nurse would then give him meds without checking his vials. She waited till change of shifts before a dr finally looked at him, this was around 7:30 am. Dr was concerned with the high fever and then took a covid test which was Negative. He was sent home telling her to give meds every 2 hours. Needless to say she was exhausted and tired. Hospital says only 1 parent per child was aloud. There were alot of couples accompanied the child.

Poor management at dental clinic C7, long waiting time. No respect of appointments time.

Mr. Youssef

Excellent hospital and doctors especially Dr. Mathew Line and Dr.Erica are so kind and smart ????????????????????????‍????????‍????????‍???? Service is good and nurses very great ???? Best hospital in Canada

The mental health unit and the Children's hospital was appalling. A staff member by the name of Jason Gunn was truly inexperienced, and untrained. He was a complete failure and did not have the capacity to care for my son. The Ottawa Children's Hospital failed our family.

Hi I’ve had such a bad experience last week! I had to wait 24 hours to get anyone to see my daughter. Witch I realize there busy. But what I don’t appreciate is when the doctor says “I hope you enjoyed your 24 hours here” with obvious sarcasm! Also to top it all off the vending machines weren’t working my husband put in 10$ only got a bear paw than zero $ for change! Than we go to the front entrance to try and put our ticket in, and it wouldn’t accept it. Went to the front desk for the lady to tell me it wasn’t her problem and not her job to put out of order on the machine! But that we could pay at the gate if we have a credit card. We tried twice with two different cards and it wouldn’t read either of them. We waited 20 minutes for someone to come outside to help us . Worst experience I’ve ever had at a hospital!

In CHEO at around 6:15 pm, the staff decided to test a fire alarm. It went on for 17 minutes. I was in the waiting room all this time. All the kids were shouting, and in addition to that the fire alarm was on. Why do I have to wait with all the patients and take this? This is ridiculous. No one should take this! I have perfect hearing and If this affects it, it’ll be awful. I came here because I might have a concussion, and I left my school today because I couldn't stand any noise. Now I have a major headache that won't stop. I never had such an awful experience, even when I was in a different country.

If there is a rate below 1 I will give it to them . Bad stuff I went with my kid with minor cut in his finger and waited more than 4 hours no doctor or treatment for the kid then I left with no service just they charge me 600 $ just because I entered the hospital even with no service done

Duane and Katie VandenOever

Wow. After reading many reviews here, sounds like your ER department needs a major overhaul. We came in with our 5 year old who had a HEAD injury. Nurses were lovely. We waited over 6 hours, 9pm -3 am, til our patience ran out and we left without even seeing the doctor. There were only 3 or 4 others in the waiting room! Unfortunately, this sounds like the norm for CHEO. But it should NOT be. Making children wait hours on end, all in some sort of pain, is really quite inhumane. We are from out of town so fortunately we have access to a much higher reputed hospital. Get your act together CHEO.

Liang Wang

Came here at 9pm last night, now is 4am still waiting...almost waited for 7 hours, still waiting! This is called emergency! Ask nurse couple times, answer is the same “I don’t know how long you gonna wait but usually not more than 5 hrs! I said but it’s been almost 7 hrs now!

My daughter just spent 13 hours at CHEO overnight with her 4 month old, from 9:30pm until 10:30 this morning. Went to CHEO on the advise of her doctor. Was triaged and told it would take 4 hours. After waiting all night, finally saw a doctor around 9:30 am. This doctor was condescending and rude. She dismissed everything as normal without doing any tests or diagnostics, while it was evident the baby was dehydrated from vomiting. She disregarded the information my daughter related to her about the baby, and treated her with disdain. She was dismissed and told in a very condescending manner 'sorry that your doctor sent you here when everything is normal'. The doctor was not sorry at all. There has to be a more caring way to treat sick babies and exhausted mothers. If there is a shortage of doctors, perhaps nurse practitioners should be hired to meet the needs of the public. While my daughter's experience with the nurses was very good, the bedside manner of that doctor is in need of an overhaul. Will be reporting to the CMA once I get the name of the physician, although don't expect this to make a difference.

I remember CHEO. Thanks so much CHEO I remember when I lived in Ottawa. I live in Oakville, ON Now.

My daughter had an object stuck in her nose and immediately we picked the eldest from school and head over to CHEO. First person to meet was Lianne, triage nurse who's suppose to be kids friendly and help out but instead she was the rudest nurse i've ever encountered! I personally didn't know they had a policy of only one parent with a child and no siblings allowed but she just kept badgering us with the fact that i'm exposing my eldest to many illness and so forth...i told her we didn't know and that we came straight from school here and we live in Kanata..her response, not my problem let dad go back home with the eldest so as my husband prepared to leave another couple came in, 2 kids in tow but only one was sick was triaged by the same nurse and sent to wait...she didn't badger them about the rule as she did with us! Before I can say something we got called in to see the doctor... horrible service & representation of the hospital!

(Translated) I went to the emergency room with my child, saw a doctor had x-rays about 3 hours total waiting time and very good service. No fees even if we are residents in Quebec (Original) Je suis allé à l'urgence avec mon enfant, nous avons vu un médecin eu des radiographies environs 3 heures d'attente au total et un très bon service. Worst children’s hospital ever. For a country like Canada, it is shameful that sick kids and babies have to wait up to 10 hours to see a doctor. When I took my son to the ER, i was told there were hundreds of patients ahead of me and that there was only ONE doctor working. ONE!! Treating 50-100 people!!!! That is absolutely ridiculous! How is this happening in a country like Canada?? Of course I ended up leaving. Not only do you have to wait hours and hours on end to see a doctor, but there are 0 covid precautions being taken you have to sit in a crowded waiting area with a bunch of sick kids god knows what you can catch. Not to mention the receptionists/nurses are all so cold. Especially to concerned parents that are worried sick about their babies. All in all, when you’re making people wait 6-10 hours with their sick babies to see a doctor, it shouldn’t even be called an emergency room anymore! You might as well go to Appletree or any other walk in clinic and save yourself some time.

HB Shmoe

Caring staff. Even under the added stress of COVID!

Enterprise 777

They have been very helpful in the past for me. Dr Palframan has been the best doctor there to help me at the time. He is honest and direct. I thank him for everthing.

November 11, 2021. I’ve been here with my daughter for 6 hours and I was told that it may be several more hours before she gets seen. A lady I was talking to earlier had been here with her son for 11 hours and counting. I couldn’t help but notice the place is pretty filthy too. Honestly, this is ridiculous for a first world country to have such a terribly understaffed hospital as this. And this is a children’s hospital for Pete’s sake! What am I paying all these taxes for?

We received excellent service from CHEO. Both of our children have required some form of hospital care over the past 18 years and CHEO performed very well in each case.

Thabby Ngwenya

45 min wait time was more like 7hrs. Yikes. I guess their website isn't as accurate. The staff was great but they (our health system ) need to find a way to not have sick kids sitting down for that long + parents losing their minds trying to entertain them. The wait in the actual room is worse, they could put some sort of toys in there? Other than the decoration at the front, the ER is quite cold and scary like regular hospitals.

Very professional and courteous staff and good care of kids. Emergency waiting room has TV for kids shows, and numerous phone charging cables. Parking is mainly under sky.

dina chayab

Very disappointing with the long wait more than 6 hours to see a doctor who doesn't take the child symptoms seriously at the end i had to return to my family doctor. Making children and babies to wait in pain is unacceptable we need more doctors since we only have one children's hospital in Ottawa.

Salih Moustafa

October, Wednesday 27, 2021. You should get rid of rude people or teach them how to deal with people especially those parents who call or come to your hospital and are of course worried about their sick children. I just called cheo and talked to someone and I was giving him some details about my daughter's situation and he clearly told me that these details don't concern him and do not waste his time. They should understand no matter what you say and explain is related to a parent' worries. It about a child who needs care. A parent does not call to waste your time Mr. You should be hold responsible for your rude behaviour. You should be disciplined.

Cheo is more than amazing. The staff are always helpful and smiling. They genuinely care about children.

I went to ER with my 15 months old. Traige nurse saw him and didn't give him anything for fever. On asking he gave my kid advil. After long time wait in the waiting room they register my son again and tell us go to the room. We were hoping that now we can see a doctor. On asking ,nobody tell us that how long we have to wait to see a doctor. After waiting 2 hours in room when I ask one of the she told me that I have to wait 3 more hours to see the doctor. The time at that time was around 5 am . The worse ER I have seen till date.

Amit Hans

Went to the emergency with my 15 month old, 3 hours in not a single checkup was done by an RN, after asking for assisstance a nurse came by and told us that we had to wait for another 3.5 hours before the doctor could see my child. The worst health service experience ever; dispassionate, unresponsive and apathetic staff.
