Here you have all the information of real people who purchased the products and services of North York General Hospital (Hospital) in North York (Canada).
As of day the business gets a rating of 3 out of 5 and this score has been calculated on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that its rating is discreet, neither too high nor too low, and it's based on a very high number of opinions, so we can say that the rating is very credible. If many people have bothered to leave their feddback when they are satisfied with the business, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to give reviews when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Hospital corresponds to the category of General hospital.
Had an appointment at 6:30. They reschedule me at 9.30. Will i was there. The MRI guy are worse. Good point. Wifi have good speed 60 mb/s
Excellent care, attentive and professional staff. Great facilities. Going to a hospital is always stressful, but the staff, including administrative, nurses, and doctors at NYGH make it a lot easier for everyone.
Nurse in 4 West named Lorita is very rude and unhelpful with my questions. Nurse Lorita told me that 'I don't have time to look for the answer to your questions' This kind of nurse should not be employed at all as she does not have manners and just wanted to brushed me off quickly so she can go on her break.
the doctors and nurses in this hospital are pure useless, i was in the hospital Saturday night, since my condition was getting worse, after 5 hours of wait time, a doctor met me without examining me told me to go home!!!!!!! I haven't eaten food for 3 days!!! and couldn't drink but he said go home if you get worse come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who ever was the doctor on Feb 4 2018, red zone, 1:30 am. please quite your job. You are actually taking some one brights space. this is not a job for you! as a doctor you should examine your patient, that is the minimum thing you should do, and you can not even do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! based on what you sent me home!!!! i got home and fainted for hours after, until some one found me accidentally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Words cannot express what this hospital means to me and my family. All three of my kids were born here. My son unfortunately passed away here. My mom went through her breast cancer treatments here. Through all of this the Doctors, Nurses …
I had a very bad experience at North York general hospital emergency unit today morning 26/06/2020. Iam sufferings from urethra, stomach and back pain. I done my registration and they told me to make a payment of 1300$ because I have no health card. Due to covid Pandemic I couldn't have a new health card and iam jobless now. Hospital people are not willing to understand my situation .
Mainly location and friendly staff. However to all nurses, it’s not a shame to ask for help from one another instead of abuse. Not every nurse can find a blood vein that’s only available on a patient’s hands so after a couple of tries ask another instead of poking an at a senior who doesn’t complain or speak the language for over an hour before finally deciding to ask another nurse. It’s already painful on a hand but to keep poking at someone is cruel.
I will never make the mistake of going there again. I went there with extreme pain and had to wait 6 hours just to see a doctor. If it were busy, I would understand. All the staffs were really rude. I know nurses are overworked and all and I really appreciate everything but some empathy can be expected. Some of the nurses were kind enough but, mostly a horrible experience. Never going there again.
I was in my worst condition, was shivering and had stomach ache n all. Went to the emergency section. This was the worst experience i ever had. Firstly, you register then go to an assessing nurse which takes around 2 hours to get to and then go to registration which takes 15-20 mins Then they ask you to go sit in a room and no one shows up for over an hour and when inquired about it the nurses go super rude on You. I waited for over three hours in their EMERGENCY section and still didn’t get a chance to see a doctor Finally I had to ditch them to go to a local clinic Seriously guys, do y’all even know what emergency means?
Staff are extremely friendly and helpful but the hospital itself isn’t really a great place for being well...
Fantastic hospital and wonderful staff. Friendly and supportive at all times, from giving directions, screening for COVID or doing the examination. I did a mammogram and an ultrasound at the Breast Centre, and I have received phenomenal support through the entire experience. Staff make sure to make a very comprehensive examination to help my doctor investigate the pain. Keep up the beautiful work!
If you’re going to this hospital, Keep in mind that it’s unprofessional and it’s unfortunate how some people are being trained on other patients and do not value people’s lives and consider other people’s circumstances, and the impact of loosing their loved ones.
Emergency wait 8 hours ++, and on duty Dr. Always shows Porker face...
The administrator should know that none of the staff on the ACT team do any work. They don't take people to appointments, help in crisis situations, and stay for five minutes when supposedly booking an hour visit. The staff are completely disinterested in providing any services to clients, other than taking coffee breaks and long lunches while taking advantage of people suffering from mental illness and using them to increase their stats.
Went for a shoulder injury and the experience from the registration till the end was very good. Maybe it's due to covid, I was in and out within 1.5 hrs which is really quick. The Doctor, Nicolaos Mamalias was very knowledgeable and explained in detail. Overall, a great hospital with a great team.
I went to the emergency department today and I'm writing this review in particular to praise the doctor Elizaberh Tolhurst (sorry if the last name is misspelled), then ultrasound technician Bonnie and the nurse Tammy. The registration was quick and easy. The staff members were so kind and helpful. I'm glad I live close by to a hospital with such a great team. Thanks for everything!
Do not, I repeat do not go to this hospital. I still have PTSD from the cruelty inflicted upon me. When my Doctor requested my records we found that certain records had disappeared. I was restrained by a nurse because I wouldn't let her take my blood pressure. Having my blood pressure taken had become quite painful so my Doctor agreed that I would only have to have it taken once a day. This was the evening shift and because I refused to let her take my blood pressure she had me restrained and then she took my blood pressure. She left me restrained all night. I cried all night. I was still crying in the morning. When she left the restraints were removed. When my Mom came I wrote a letter detailing everything we handed in and spoke to someone about it. Well this letter disappeared along with any record of me even being in the Cardiac Care Unit. I don't trust anyone there.
My father was brought into York General on October 31, 2014 by an ambulance with sharp stomach pain. First of all, our family would like to thank the ambulance crew who provided an outstanding first aid before even transporting my father into the vehicle. Upon arrival he was assigned a bed in the emergency care right away (not like most of GTA hospitals where you have to wait for hours before a doctor sees you, no matter of the reason you arrive). Nurses started working on him right away, taking necessary tests. In a couple of hours my father was already diagnosed. Due to the medical condition my father had (kidneys issues), apparently the surgery needed to be done by 2 surgeons and a medical doctor to be on the safe side. We were constantly updated on any situation change as it occurred. No issues in getting painkillers as my father had excruciating pain, since a doctor had seen him almost right away (within a few minutes literally of being admitted). It was decided on the emergency surgery as the situation was becoming worse. The surgery was performed by Dr. Iu. The biggest worry on our side was that my father’s kidneys could fail at any point during the surgery. After the surgery Dr. Iu came out himself into the waiting room to update us on the situation. My mother and I were let into the recovery room right after, even before my father was brought upstairs into the regular room. On the 4th floor my father was taken into care right away, although this was no longer an ICU. Nurse’s checkups were frequent and anything my father needed was right there for him when he asked. A couple of days later he was released from the hospital and (I haven’t seen that in any of the previous hospitals) a male nurse wheeled him out in the wheelchair downstairs to assist my father into the car, as he was too weak to walk by himself yet. Usually this is done by the family. This really did surprise me as the crew on shift that day took their responsibilities seriously and in a very professional manner. THANK YOU!!! My father has been in and out of various hospitals every few months for the past 8 years, so I really know the difference when I see it. Our family would like to thank all who were involved in taking care of my father that day, October 31, 2014: ambulance crew on shift morning of October 31, nurses at the station in the emergency room, surgical nurses/assistants to Dr. Iu and nurses on the 4th floor. You are doing a GREAT JOB!!! Keep it up!!! It does get noticed! Very professional, very efficient, very attentive! You really make people feel special and cared for. Our special thanks go to Dr. Iu and his team of assistants for the wonderful job they have done before, during and after the surgery and for amazing attitude towards patients and their relatives, knowing how tough usually the situation is on both sides. Great job everyone!!! You made the hospital experince as painless as it could be!!!
The receptionist was short tempered and rude when I called to inquire about my X-ray requisition. I called in to ask for a timeline as to how long an X-ray would potentially take or if I would be better off going to an X-ray & imagine office. She was not very helpful and/or professional.
Edit: one of the nurses called me a jerk after I waited for 6 hours for the treatment and I was not pleased with it. Waited 6 hours in pain and she threatened me to call the security. Awesome staff, congratulations. Call patients jerks, that's fine. I wanted to complain about the nurse calling me jerk, the head of the nurses justified what she did. Told me I was being passive agressive, that I kept asking about the doctor (I never asked about any doctor in the first 4 hour even tho I was in pain) when I tried to explain myself to her she was very rude and wouldn't listen to me. You people are dealing with health. You need to be.more sensetive. If something happens to me today it's on you guys. Because I couldn't get the treatment for 6 hours and I can only go to a hospital once a day. Very rude staff. I just told the nurses that my pain has gone a lot worse (in the emergency) they just impolitely told me to wait (I've already been waiting for 1.5 hours with my pain) and as soon as I left the room I heard them joking around and laughing about my request to see a doctor asap. Do yourselves a favor, go to any other hospital. Don't die waiting here.
Great hospital, very friendly workers. Got to me very quickly and helped with everything. there's a short wait time, and they also are very patient with their patients. (no pun intended) not only do they help with your current issue, but they often help with preventing me issues in the future.
The security guards are disrespectful towards severely mentally ill people, was waiting out in the hallway while a man was having a psychotic episode and the one male guard was laughing and the others were telling jokes. I'm so disgusted with their work ethics. Hire more compassionate people please ????
Complete waste of time. I went to the emergency room because I had been prescribed medication earlier in the week and my symptoms had gotten worse and I had developed additional symptoms. I had to repeat myself 5 times without the ability to speak. The doctor said I have to actually speak for him to help me. I told him this was extremely frustrating that not only could I not speak, but that this was also my 5th time repeating my symptoms. The he says, “oh! I have to go” and just leaves me there.
If you can go elsewhere, do! Horrible experience after horrible experience. Rude doctors, who do not take the proper time to listen to your concerns, and rush off after pretending to take your concerns into consideration. You're more likely to come out worse than you were going in. A small issue will surely become a serious more prolonged illness the longer you remain. They claim that patient care is important to them, but really, it's more like certain patients are simply ignored and left to fend for themselves if they can. Very disappointed with this hospital and the treatment. Have heard worse scenarios of this place than pleasant ones. Absolutely the worst communication between the doctors and nurses, and in turn between the staff and patients. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Hospital or not, you should not have to have your sanity and peace destroyed by a visit to this place.
Maybe double check your patients before discharging them. They discharged my aunt but forgot to remover the IV. We had to take it out ourselves. Be more responsible guys.. ????
The level of incompetence and disregard for people’s health is unmatched! You can literally die in front of the staff and they would tell you to wait your turn.
Quick and professional, we were there around 0:00am and everything is organized. We spent 2.5h there and back home. Only four stars because of the washroom is not good..... not clean....
THE MOST AWFUL ER SERVICE EVER. Don’t try it. 4:45hrs waiting for a dr to show up!!!! Emergency??!!! Seriously??!!! And on the wall it sais” a staff member will see you shortly!!!” Such a BIG LIE!!!! Nurses chitchat in the reception area while patients are waiting to be called!!! Shameful!!! I wish I could give it 5ZERO. Was here 2 days a go with 4 days ongoing high fever and dr told me to come back after 2 days if nothing changes. And after, now 5hrs, no dr shows up!
Worst experience of my life. I had went there with my mother, and she was in a wheelchair, her face was pale and she was told to wait in the emergency room for her turn when she was clearly in pain. She was told by another person in the hospital that she was lying to take her turn and the nurses had done nothing to stop it. She was scheduled for a colonoscopy so she asked to cancel the emergency room patient file thing and went ahead and did a colonoscopy with Dr. Yasser Boutros, I highly recommend him and his team since they took care of my mother rather than the emergency room workers. I had never met a more patient and amazing doctor that had helped her and done everything that made her comfortable.
Went to NYGH last week for a small procedure by Dr David Smith. I was quite impressed with the friendly and helpful staff. Everyone was quite polite and caring. Dr Smith is an excellent surgeon. Highly recommended.
This is the most disorganized hospital I have ever been to. I am shocked to have heard that they rank # 4 in all of Canada. Absolute joke.
The staff at the baby and mother unit are very helpful and kind. Especially the student nurse Belinda Chee who was there to assist me after my csection on 3rd March 2021. I think even the evening shift nurses should be kind and helpful like her.
My son was born in this hospital. Visited ER for three times. In general, most of staff we have dealt with maintained their work ethic. Everyone thinks he deserves the instant care when visiting ER. What I saw is that children and senior got the priority. I don't think we should complain too much about the long wait. It will be the same in every hospital in Canada due to system issues if it's the fact. It is also forgivable that people lost patience because of language barrier considering human nature. However, It easily feels like discrimination especially to new comers. That's why I guess most of high ratings could come from earlier residents. Try to be positive to the future of Canada, I give 4 stars.
Thursday...I visited North York General...due to facing some female issues. It was not busy...and the nurse and the doctor who looked me over...were super friendly. They said it was a small inflammation and that I should be fine...and basically did blood work...which was ok. This was the first time...I had to visit this hospital...since the systems were down at Humber River...but the staff are really friendly and easy- going...I felt soo relieved...when I found out ...I was gonna be ok. Amazing staff...thumbs up...to everyone at North York General...keep up the good work!!
Wonderful care, great ER doctor and staff. God bless you all!! From my visit on February 2, 2022
Horrible hospital, let patient in emergency waiting for 4 hours!!!!!! Kept finding the nurses for helps but all of them just tell me that is none of my business go find other ones I do not work outside! Good job NYGH, keep this way always
I got a kidney stone and had to run to ER. In spite of Covid-19 times, this hospital was so well prepared. Not busy, good signage, fast and they made us feel safe. Strict usage of masks and plenty of hand sanitizer gel everywhere. Attention to my issue was quick and efficient. I’d definitely run there if I ever need to. Hope not.
The emergency staff at the Yellow Zone are lazy and dishonourable. They get paid to help others who are in need of medical assistance and they couldn’t even help my sisters niece who is 8 weeks old! Through our the 10 hour duration that my sister and I were there, no one bothered examining my niece. They even manage to screw up the urine sample twice and disregarded my sister when the 2nd urine sample was ready. I don’t trust North York General Hospital. Very terrible experience.
The doctors who took care of my 5-year-old son did something very embarrassing yesterday. My son vomited from midnight to 8 am and pretended nothing had happened. And their attitude was stupid. I wish I had the same situation. You're confused. You're stupid. You're not a doctor. You must be punished in prison.
Very rude securities, very rude doctors assistansts Overprice parking. They dont let you stay inside. They didnt let my wife(she was pregnant) wait with me inside and outside was very cold realy cold and windy. They obligated that she has to wait outside. And i debated with them but no solution. And one time i did test for corona.i got positive and i went there reception lady at the door told me go to home and dont do nothing they didnt check me after i debate with her that its not right and after they checked me little bit for fun.i will never go there even if i get die!!! ..
Staff working in the maternal ward are terrible people without any sympathy for their fellow females giving birth. They not only administer injections and medication incorrectly but they fail to take responsibility for their own mistakes. I’m surprised someone hasn’t died at their hands. This is Canada. We should never have to have this kind of issue. It’s all about freeing up the rooms.
I spent a month at this hospital when my baby was born. I stayed in labour & delivery, mother & baby, NICU and also went to the ER once. All doctors and nurses that I met during my stay were very knowledgeable, caring and friendly. I never experienced negligence or any kind of unprofessional behaviour. They addressed any questions and concerns that I had. I felt like me and my baby were under excellent care.
One of the best hospitals in the world. Top Doctors. Top service. Organization is simply amazing. If I can 10 STARS I would. ???? to all the nurses and other staff well done.
Emergency room staff is a joke!! Specially the doctors! They kept on chatting and talking while patients needed assistance. They had lost our files and had to start from the beginning. The doctor was extremely unprofessional when we requested the clarification of what happened. He said "if you want to go then leave I don't care" is this smtg en educated doctor says to a patient in severe pain? Didn't know that simple humanity was so hard to learn.. Such a shame that this joke of a doctor was employed at a hospital like North York general hospital. Everyone who is reading this DON'T COME HERE! It's as awful as it can be.
We had to go to the ER here because of a severe neck pain. I honestly experienced how much their don’t care about your life and your pain here. I was in shock. When we told them that my friend is unable to walk due to the neck pain, the nurse just said oh I watched you walk here so I’m pretty sure you can walk now!!!! No my friend was unable to walk at all since I was with him whole day. They don’t care. Very disappointed.
After 10 hours there and having paid much more than a thousand dollars, I left the hospital as I arrived, the disorganized doctors did not know what to do with me and only said that I should go with another doctor. I Just want my money.
I recently spent 2 nights at NYGH following surgery and found the nurses to be friendly and attentive. The food was decent and the room was cleaned on a regular basis. However, medication was not always ready on time and the elevators were unreliable (apparently someone got stuck in one). Parking is expensive and the building is showing its age. Overall, no major complaints. Some workers are better than others of course and hospital staff deal with a lot of difficult situations. If you have a respectful and positive attitude, it will most likely be appreciated.
No free parking except that everything’s fine
Where to begin!!!! Wonderful Hospital 100% Staff amazing 100% My son was born there April. I was in labor for 3 days with having to be induced and all that BUT he came normally just with the help of a suction. The staff that day, well thank you so much as I was so tired and was just ready to pass out. It's not an easy job but they did it and still do. I look forward to seeing you guys again one day. :) Also something to note, my son was born on my birthday ha April 14. While I was in the private room the people that brought the food kept writing on the paper Happy Birthday. You really made my day happier just by seeing that. Thank you for that kindness.
I had my baby in August 2021. While my care was transfered to the OB since I had an emergency c-section, the care in the OR and recovery was excellent. But after I was transfered to the floor I had different nurses. One of them was excellent, very caring and thorough she answered every question I had. However, another nurse removed my dressing and left a second degree burn on my skin she was careless while ripping the tape. I've been a nurse for 15 years so I know what I'm talking about. I tried to book an appointment with a lactation consultant, I booked one online and I received a call saying that the appointment will be virtual due to COVID but that I needed to book again through the website which I did. No one never called me. I ended up booking a private LC which is very costly. I booked a second time an LC appointment and no one never called. My daughter is almost 5 months and we couldn't exclusively breastfeed, I ended up supplementing. I wish the hospital would have supported me on my choice to exclusively breastfeed. Although I'm a nurse, I'm also a single mom by choice. It's very disappointed to know that the system has failed you
I gave birth to my son at this hospital. The staff were very patient, and kind during all phases of by labour and delivery. After my son was born nurse Hillary, and Winnie were the best nurses I have ever had with the way they looked after me. I would recommend this hospital for anyone looking to have their babies.
What hospital in the first world takes over 8 hours to treat a patient? This one. And what hospital charges an arm and a leg for parking AND WiFi? This one. Lastly, what hospital cares more about it's sterling reputation than actual patient care? This one. Now, granted, my wife and I are immigrants to this country. From the United States. And we can both say that our worse medical experience in the US was far better than any medical experience up here. My wife had an ear infection. A pretty nasty one. Nasty enough that she finally agreed to go to the doctor. I will never understand this country's medical systems' aversion to prescribing pain medication. Yes, I understand there are those that would abuse such medications. But their existence does not mean that ALL patients should be treated like drug abusers. Had our family physician given my wife something for the pain, then this review would have never been authored. But he didn't. And said to go to the ER if the pain gets worse. Which it obviously did, because I'm still writing. A sleepless night later, my wife wants to go to the hospital. Only problem - they all have their share of bad reviews. Her new tag line -"Canada. The healthcare is so bad, they give it away for free"...But I digress. North York General is chosen because (1) it was the least poorly reviewed, and (2) it was the closest one with an ER open before 9 am. Their ER should be called the "Lack of Urgency Room". Intake a little before 8 am. My wife tells them everything, including all the meds she's taking, including the antibiotic she was prescribed. Did not see a doctor until a little after 10 am. Not once did either of the two nurses assigned to care for patients actually come into the waiting area. My wife was offered Tylenol for her pain. I say 'offered', because even though she said yes, she was never given any. Doctor wants an ultrasound. Not done until around noon. No nurses come by. Still no Tylenol. Finally, around 4 pm, her name is called. Doctor says ultrasound shows nothing. Blood work suggests infection. Tries to prescribe antibiotics. Nothing for pain. The damn doctor could not take the time to read the intake file, and see my wife is already taking antibiotics. I find it hard to believe all of the glowing reviews this hospital receives. Maybe patients really do receive good medical care here. Or, maybe North York has poor reviews removed. I know their Facebook account does. Because I wrote a less-than-glowing review of them last night, and now, I do not even see their page. This is incredibly sad. A hospital should care about all patients. An emergency room should act with a modicum of urgency. And healthcare professionals should not treat all people that walk in as potential drug abusers. I hope that North York General actually does something positive after reading this review. And does not just ignore it. Our tax dollars fund this system. We all deserve better. Also, I want my $22 parking fee refunded.
I had ultrasound appointment for 2 o’clock and they told me to come 15 min earlier for your appointment so I went 30 min earlier but I waited for more than 2 hours to do ultrasound. And I payed 30$ for parking .
Very organized and competent hospital and staff. Pandemic has been very demanding, but they are doing good job and maintaining very clean premises.
1. Understaffed 2. Poorly managed 3. Needs funding, BIG TIME Took my son there due to prolonged high-fevers; waited for the longest hours ever and they just basically told me that nothing is wrong. Doctor prescribed ibuprofen and if fever persists go back to the hospital. Wasn't satisfied with their diagnosis. It has been 4 days since my son got his random high fevers- no colds or whatsoever that could trigger a fever so clearly something is going on. Took him to the Sick Kids same day; waited for couple of hours but it was all worth it! Doctor took a swab test, results came in and my son got streptococcus, which is apparently unusual for my son's age to get. Was prescribed an antibiotic & went home relieved because we have finally have the answers! Had I not decided to take my son to the Sick Kids same day, situation could've gotten worse :( Apparently, these type of bacteria can get aggressive if not treated early. So, thanks to the Doctor/staff at The Sick Kids for the proper diagnosis. Moral lesson: I'm not blaming anyone here, my point is nobody's perfect, if you are not satisfied with the result always get a second opinion!
I have been to ER for 3 times for different issues. Excellent service when compared to some other hospitals in GTA where i have accompanied my friends and relatives. 1-3 hours is good time for E.R. at North York General.
Waited in total 3 hours for registration, blood works and doc exam. Can't complain. Doc was very thorough and detailed. I highly recommend. Keep it up guys!
My husband was in for day surgery and we were told he was having a 20 minute procedure. However he was in the OR for several hours and nobody bothered to communicate to us as to why. In recovery he was given zero attention or instructions and the surgeon went home for the day without any follow up. Nurses could not have been more grouchy.
I have been to the emerg many times at this hospital over the last 10 years for myself, wife kids whatnot. I kid you not, every time I go in, there has NEVER been a nurse at the front reception desk and you always have to wait regardless of what’s going on, I’ve waited in a line up of people for 15 minutes before. It is the worst emerg I have ever been in, and would drive extra out of the way to go to a different hospital. I wouldn’t review it if I didn’t think the emergency room was run that bad but unfortunately poor management and free healthcare create long lines and inefficient service. Staff a full time nurse at the front entrance desk considering emerg has patients coming in non-stop 24hrs a day.
Very happy with the staff here. They are here to serve and give you enough time to explain your condition. Doctors here care about their patients. Thank you for a pleasant experience NYGH.
I had a very very bad experience in emergency department at NYGH yesterday. Nurse who took the blood for testing was inexperienced resulting in a badly bruised hand. Complete waste of time as they didn't take my symptoms seriously and just wanted to release and send me home. Ministry of health should inspect hospitals and do random checks to see the quality of service being provided by them, afterall we pay so much in taxes.
This is the best hospital in the city, in fact number two in the country and top 100 in the world! And it truly shows. expect prompt care and to be treated like a person who matters all doctors are extremely kind, caring, thorough and personable and same with the nurses I will never go to any hospital but this one.
We recently had a baby here and our family physician is in this facility. There are a number of positive feedbacks that I have - The hospital staff is very cooperative and helpful. The facility is very well maintained. Ample parking space. The physicians and Doctors are good in what they do. At least to my experience. I hope no one needs a hospital but if you do, this is a reliable facility.
I had a surgery today in the hospital. ALL the staff I talked to was very nice and helpful. They explained everything I need to know and answered my additional questions. The surgery itself was done in a professional manner (I am not a specialist, but this is my personal impression)
I went for covid 19 test on Sunday 27 sept 2020, went in at 06:40 am and finished everything around 07:15 am , was quick and fast.Got my result on Tuesday 28 sept around 7:11 pm, so it took around 60 hours to het my results.
I have an exposure in my work place and i was denied a test because I was not in close contact apparently. A work place where hardly 30 people work. I am not supposed to go back to work without a test. I had a booked appointment and I was denied entry at the reception. They wasted my time and didn't give me any solution and just asked me to go away.
Useless and rude nurses in the birthing unit. All they do is stand around chatting. It was more like a sorority than a hospital. I was in labour for TWELVE HOURS before I was finally admitted to a room. They kept telling me to "walk around". I never thought such blatant incompetence was possible in a developed country. For shame. After the birth, the nurses mixed up my information with another patient. Such utter stupidity.
Really really BADDDDD service my mom was really sick we were waiting for the receptionist or nurse almost 15 minutes to they come to check her in she were in a bad pain . She has heart problems I even went I spoke to one of the security guard To they can help and call someone to help unfortunately she did not even helped ... its emergency and when people are coming there it’s not because they love hospitals or they want just come by they should be more responsible to there sick peoples specially to old people.
I was sent to this hospital with my brother in law and my boyfriend becuase he was hurt in his shoulder. But unfortunately one of the doctors thought that it was an excuse for for abuse at home. The doctor thought my boyfriend injured my his brother. This is very unprofessional. Would not recommend this hospital for anybody. Terrible doctors, very unprofessional wnd rude. and terrible staff. Not recommend. 0 star would I would.
My daughter broken both bones of her forearm on Friday. We went there after 12 hours being there and being lost in their new system as being released couple of times eventually they did a reduction for her and send us out with a cast. Before leaving her fingered started swelling and I told couple of doctors and they told me it’s okay. Went home 24 hits later she couldn’t feel her fingers anymore. Rushed her to North York General and when orthopaedic technician name Alex (very kind and gwntle$ saw it freaked out of how tight the cast was and was very worried. He didn’t have the X-rays so they just tried to cut around it and give it a little air but said go and see if is better and all shook their head of whomever done the casting (an orthopaedic residence and sick kids). 5 hours later her fingers were worse and since NYGH orthopaedic centre was closed wile went back to sick kids 8 hours later we were told by another orthopaedic residence that he is afraid to open the cast for breat as her arm had too much swelling and could cut her skin (in front of her which freaked her out!!!!). They sent us home with morphine. 12 hours later her fingers were not almost bursting. Hot, swelling and shiny with almost loosing sensation. Went back to NYGH this time the orthopedic doctor and same nice technician Alex just said there is no way this is too serious we need to cut a line and let the arm breath this is crazy. This time they took an X-ray and after being happy with where the break was they gently and patiently cut her cast and give her the biggest relief. I am shock Sick Kids is this bad. Lots of $$$ is going there. I am the one also donating to them but these 20 hours experiences I had were horrible. They should teach their orthopaedic residence a little more before sending them to the field! On the other hand NYGH experiences were fast and kind and perfeasional and great:)
Got my second dose of COVID vaccine here and everything was very smooth and fast.
Worst experience ever. The women at the emergency check-in desk were very rude. They were mocking at my friend's accent, and were very impatient and relentless. I asked twice for the nurse to grab a blanket for my friend who was trembling. She refused by saying that she is busy with some prioritized things and can't walk to the other side( which is just another room that is 5 meters away from the nurse station) to grab the blanket.
I had an abdominal pain and I decided to go to ER worried that I might have an appendices. While the staff did a good job, I felt offended by the doctor who tried to lecture me about how ER is intended for emergencies! I wasted my whole morning to get checked. Definitely didn't expect to hear that offensive talk from an entitled doctor.
It’s a nice hospital, but when you ask for some assistance they don’t pay attention really. For instance, when I had severe hives (burning, itching rashes, bumps) I asked for some cream to rub on myself, waited 1-2h still haven’t gave me something to treat my hives. Had to deal with the pain like a man. Also, lot of the staff just talk and not give a damn about the patients.
The nurses were friendly and provided me with everything I needed during my stay. The facilities were nice. When my grandparents were staying here, the nurses were also kind to them, understanding and patient as they both had language barriers and were extremely confused to be in hospital.
I do not recommend the EMERGENCY unless you absolutely have to go. Rude and unprofessional staff.
Last Saturday, I experienced chest discomfort, cold sweat and vomiting. With my other medical conditions, diabetes and high blood pressure, I went to North York General Hospital emergency room. My impression on admission process seems not well organized compared to hospitals in downtown. After waiting about 4 hours, my blood was taken. In front of X-ray room, I had to wait 30 minutes while I had no idea of the staff was doing. Later doctor came and told me to go home without explaining anything. I was going to ask about chest discomfort, cold sweat from my upper body, total loss of strength in my both arms, vomiting, and dizziness. But the doctor was unwilling to answer my questions. I had to come out of the hospital with those questions unexplained, after spending 6.5 hours.
The hospital has great doctors but there is just not enough of them. Wait times can be 10 hours or longer before you can see a doctor. Some of the nurses are great while others are too focused on their cell phones instead of patients. Overall, it could use many improvements.
I had take my wife here and stay for few days . Obviously its never a good time to be in hospital but they took very good care of my wife .great service .great care. Clean rooms .good food .and they did their best to help us .ty so much and words cant explain how greatfull we are for all your help every one from nurses and doctors and all the staff . Thank you again ????❤
What a chaotic mess of a hospital. Different people tell you to go to different, wrong places until finally you end up in the right place, only to be told that you should have registered and gotten some armband, which no one told you about. More than an hour wasted going back and forth when just one competent person told me all the details right at the end, and now my parking ticket is probably expired. Why is it so complicated to drop a sample off and get an X-ray? Seriously.

Good hospital. This hospital is well-maintained and always kept sanitary. The ER wait times need some work though.
We went in for an appointment at noon to see the plastics doctor. Waited forever to be seen (they took in 6-7 patients at 12:00 - same as our time). The doctor finally came in at 1:00 to do minimal for us. The doctor put a bandaid on the wound and told us to come back in 3 weeks. When we returned to reception to confirm the follow-up appointment she informed us the doctor is only in once a week and on the day we were scheduled he would only be in from 12:00 to 2:30. I have a full time job and took the day already to go to this appointment. Very disappointed that our time was totally wasted and it more and likely will be again on the follow-up day.
Where do I even begin. If I could give no star I would not even give one star. I'm not sure what it is with hospitals but they do not care for their patients. I've been to the ER at least 4 times for severe abdominal pain. Waited many hours each time I went. Done many ultrasound and one MRI. No one got back to me with results. Resulted my ovarian cyst to become larger. My pain started a yr ago and I was even told by one doctor it might be appendicitis, she recommended surgery. Might?! The pain went on for several months after that. Then one night I went to ER again because I felt a lump on my abdomen. They suggested I see a gynaecologist and said from the looks of it if I don't remove the cyst I cannot have kids. The doctor scheduled me for surgery for April 19th. I called back to confirm the appointment just to make sure the exact time and what to prepare for. I was told there was never an appointment made. The doctor called and left me a message saying that I said I was not ready for the surgery that's why he did not schedule it! This is unacceptable. I have never said I was not ready for the surgery. I've been in pain for almost a year now. And the doctors don't even give proper medical advice nor follow up with their patients, instead he just lied and did not own up to the fact that he forgot to schedule my surgery.
I recently had a small procedure done at NYG and I have to say everyone there from the doctors to the nurses to all support staff were amazing from start to finish. Everyone is there to make sure your comfortable and feeling fully supported. I felt so cared for... truly one of the few hospitals that I feel is thorough in their diagnosing and supportive with your treatment - whatever it may be. Also a very clean and well maintained environment! Thank you to the staff and the whole NYG team for being ao fantastic!
Dr. Walter Himmel is an amazing doctor. He took care of my princess and was professional, helpful with a good sense of humour. Very trustworthy and open minded.
My mother came into hospital very sick and we watched her trying to rest with an old blanket behind her head, told by staff they dont have pillows, rare comodity, is this a third world hospital ? Do not even have the basics to make a sick person comfortable. The domestic staff were great and ao friendly Found the use of familes rather than interpretation service odd. Family does not always translate as the doctor states or have the knowledge to change English medical terms to own language Another bad experience was preasure to sign forms making comittment to payimg for relatives medical bill, i registered them as i found them sick but that does not mean i should paybtheir bill without OHIP when they have funds and insurance.
I previously worked in this hospital as a nurse, and have worked in other hospitals around GTA including the big hospitals in downtown town TO as well. However, this is the only hospital that I feel comfortable going to for any ER issues. No place is perfect, but from my perspective as a registered nurse, they meet the standards of what safe, ethical, and efficient care is.
I stayed in the paediatrics area with my baby for one night. The nurses/doctors were super kind and supportive and the room was good and clean.
My boyfriend had to go through ER for a intense flare up due to UC. The wait time was incredibly long, however all of the staff he had were accommodating, kind, and helpful. You can easily see they work long shifts and deal with a lot of different situations. After moving up to a room, all of his nurses were also equally great and helpful. Overall, a good hospital. The only con was the wait times for a room. Thank you Paula and Rachel from ER. Thank you Giselle from the 5th floor.
By far the slowest hospital i have ever been to. Had an apointment for 830. Did t see anyone till 11. Then sent to another waiting room. To sit for several more hours. This is all after being sent away 2 days ago by the same hospital.now i am waiting for surgery that should have been done 2 days ago. Thanks north york hospital for taking tour time while i bleed internally and lose a baby. And it has more funding then 90 percent of the toronto hospitals.
I wish I could give this ER 0 stars. When we got here, they told us they have no doctors in the area, so we had to wait. (YES!!! No doctors in ER, sounds like a bad joke). We have waited 7 hours already and still waiting. After the ultrasound, we asked to see if our results came in etc, the lady said doctor will see you shortly by pointing the doctor who is sitting in his chair, having a conversation with nurses and laughing literally 2 meters away. Well done NYGH
I have a very high regard for the people who work at this hospital. I have always received good service. I also understand that going to the Emergency Entrance at a hospital after hours or on a weekend will mean that I will have to wait my turn. This is true for any hospital. However at North York General the process moves along as quickly as possible with friendly and concerned staff helping to make my situation as comfortable as possible. If there are complainers who think that the service is bad then I suggest you try another hospital. Chances are that if you do that then you will come running back to NYG because some other hospitals are much worse. I don't want to name names but at another hospital just outside of Toronto I waited several times for almost 12 hours to be thoroughly checked and released. I can remember waiting 5 hours (12AM-5AM) just to hear the report from the doctor after all the tests were complete. That was a horrible wait. I have never had such a bad experience like that at NYG. Not even close to that. My only complaint is the price of parking. The charges are outrageous.
My girl friend was extremely sick. We waited 6 hours till night 2:30. But didn’t get any bed, nor registration, nor any check up. So many other patients were also waiting, but at least look for emergency case.
So grateful to North York General staff for their excellent care of my elderly relative. They just get it when it comes to seniors and they know exactly what to do. Their expertise is incredible and they are so kind. They give great advice which helps so much when you need to make decisions in someone’s best interests. Your loved one will be in great hands here, especially the elderly as they specialize in Geriatrics.
Review of Dr. Clare Mary Hutchinson... She is an AWFUL doctor. She failed to detect my brother’s problem, and accused him of wanting to skip school and ended up giving him a “constipation” diagnosis. His problem was detected by another physician a couple of days later. He had testicular torsion and lost blood flow to his left teste. Because of this horrible doctor, he has a dead teste now. She is incompetent and doesn’t care about her patients. If she did, she would not have accused my brother of lying about his abdominal pain and taken extra tests to see what the problem was. AVOID THIS UNEDUCATED WOMAN AT ALL COSTS. Don’t trust her with your life... unless you want to lose organs.
Horrible ER, took 5 hours just to tell me things I’ve already googled. No exact resolutions for my health issue.
There are no words to describe the goodness of these people. Had my appendix removed and the whole process was like walking in the park. The nicest staff ever. From the Xray lady to the Surgeon himself. Thank you all so much for this and the past 2 years of sacrificing for all of us. The people that don’t see that honestly are lost as a kite. ❤️❤️❤️❤️????????????????????????

I have honestly never had an issue with this hospital. I have been admitted to the adult psychiatric ward multiple times and I have been met with amazing results. They keep the rooms clean always and you can request to have them cleaned. They respect your boundaries and let you have a lot of the things that hospitals will usually not permit. If you ask kindly for something, they give it to you. For me, the food was okay but you can always have tea or coffee, which is nice. They have a beautiful piano in the TV room, even though it is kind of plain and there is nothing t do. You get privileges after awhile, and they are not bad. I also attended day-hospital which was an in-depth treatment that happened everyday, kind of on a schedule like high-school would be laid out. I met my psychiatrist I still see and I have never met a man more dedicated to the care of his patients than him. I like it here. The lobby is beautiful and the food court is decent, and they have things like a worship room and things like that. I have never had to use the hospital for anything but psychiatric reasons but I can say that it is a good hospital. I am really pleased with my visits and I hope that others can get the same treatment and care as I.
Wow, nice hospital. Very efficient. I went to emergency and I was out within 3 hours. Being from Montreal, the average wait time is 8 hours, here only 3 hours even less, extremely pleased with the service.
This is a review of the ultrasound clinic. I have had 5 ultrasounds for my second pregnancy and so far every appointment has been terrible. Mostly, I hate that the appointment ALWAYS start much later than the appointment time. At least twice now I’ve waited nearly an hour just to get into a room. The tech’s aren’t allowed to give any information, no spouses are allowed in the room (too distracting?), and the techs make no effort to let the mom-to-be see the screen. You aren’t allowed to talk either. Oh, and the techs always have to check with the one radiologist on staff that day, which can take quite a bit of time as well. All in all, this is simply not a customer service oriented facility. It’s an emergency services, cancer services place and they don’t really deal with excited moms-to-be. If you want a nice ultrasound experience to share with your partner, with a decent picture and an actual radiologist...go elsewhere.
Some of the nurses and doctors are nice there, but many others were quite mean, rude and inconsiderate. Specifically, though, the way they handled discharging their patients is absolutely horrendous. My girlfriend was admitted to the hospital for mental health reasons, but they discharged her within a few hours in the middle of the night and expected her to WALK HOME. How can you trust someone who was admitted to the hospital for mental health reasons to simply walk home in the middle of the night by herself without first ensuring that she has a safe way to get back? Something seriously bad could have happened to her if there were malicious people out on the streets during that same night. The way they handled discharging their patients is completely despicable.
Terrible service. The doctors are amazing, but the waiting time and the nurse work is just rediciolus, had to come for just a shot and had to wait all the line up and when i got told to wait a bit the nurse never came back for me. I told doctors i feel dizzy and not so well, when one of the doctors just told me to go sit and wait for your turn. really, well i do not need to be seen by the doctor, i just need a shot!!! And to wait 3 hours just for that?? If i have an option i would never come back there again.
I would have been in better care in a prison... I just had Jaw surgery on Monday December 11th. This first day was great Dr. Tocchio made you feel very relaxed, I had a nurse named Elizabeth purple hair, lovely nurse always checking up on you bringing you water and changing ice packs, great nurse very professional. Once her shift was over all hell broke loose, my mother had stayed in the room with me both nights and the nurses took full advantage of that. Pretty much letting her do their jobs. Changing my ice packs giving me my medication tracking the nurses down when they would ignore my calls. On my last morning there before being sent home I was hardly treated like a patient at all. The nurse had given me a soaking wet ice pack for the 5th time in a row and when I called her on the buzzer 1 nurse came in and turned my buzzer off and said "I will get you different ice later" and never returned. The other nurse said "his mothers here she can do it." For over an hour I had been left unattended in the main lobby the only person to help was the Starbucks employee who gave me a cup of ice to take down the swelling. I had been walking around the hospital for over an hour trying to find ice on my own and when I finally came across a nurse I managed to painfully ask "nurse may I please have some ice I'm in a lot of pain" she looked me in my face and said "no sorry I'm not going to get any ice" and continued talking to her friend. North York is an absolute joke of a hospital the shittiest service I have ever seen the nursing staff extremely rude does not care about patients at all take my advice and check into a prison or mental hospital before checking into North York.
For baby delivery, this hospital is one of the bests in Toronto. Doctors and nurses are friendly and very knowledgeable. It's a bit crowded though. I believe food court and meal service could improve, considering it is a 24 hours facility and patients or their companions might get hungry during night. However, there is a 24 hours Tim Horton in the second floor and the quality is acceptable.
My bf and I came to emerge for an eye issue and it was by far one of the best hospital experiences I've had in a while. The wait wasn't terrible, probably saw a doctor in an hr after being triaged. They were super thorough and took the time to explain what he tests he was doing, and what meds we needed. This hospital listens to its patients and takes the time to order the proper tests to find out what the patients problem is. They don't just brush you off like other places. My favorite go to hospital by far.
Simply do not go there Meals are always late if you have a special diet forget. It they will not honour your requests nor can many foodservice people read. Constant mistakes. Nurses are 50% good and 50% horrible no in between.
I had never met a more patient and amazing doctor that had helped her and done everything that made her comfortable.
thank you to the amazing doctor and nursing staff. special shout out to nurse Lisa at the birthing department. you treated us like family, we couldn't asked for a better treatment. God bless you, more power to you and keep safe.
Went it around 8am and was in the examiners room right away. Everyone there is so professional and caring. I had a horrible experience at a nearby hospital so it was troubling thinking this hospital would be the same. However, that was not the case at all! There ER is clean and all Covid protocols are followed. The nurses and doctors are not in a hurry and you always feel taken care of. Definitely would return here should any emergency come up. Amazing service!!
I had an obstructed kidney stone and went through 3 different doctors at 2 other hospitals before finally getting sent to North York General. The urologist here pulled some strings and got me set up for an intervention surgery the same day (a statutory holiday no less), and performed the operation herself to fix the problem. She didn't have to do that for me; I'm very grateful to her, and the two nurses who helped me the day following the surgery. People like to get on here and complain about wait times and poor patient care, but that wasn't my experience. Be nice to the staff (in spite of your ailments) and show them some care, consideration and above all patience. You'll receive better treatment if you treat them better, that's human nature. Thanks NYG, I owe you big time.
Had to visit this hospital to get my appendix removed. I'm still not sure why I had to get it removed but the experience was great overall. The nurses were kind and the hospital had a nice atmosphere. I didn't have to worry about anything.
The medical quality is excellent and professional. But why let me wait 6 hours for the emergency service? Thanks God my injury wasn't too serious
I am going to agree on that nursing issue trying to get one to come and help. They were having a little going away party for a patient. I know this because the room was right across from mine and I could hear them. I waited 45 minutes for someone to help me ( I had bilateral knee replacement) so I sure wasn't up and at it the day of the surgery. A doctor who was checking his patient next to me heard me crying asked what was wrong I told him and he went and got a nurse. The nurse was young but very kind and well I did have an accident she never let me feel embarrassed either. It took abit to get a nurse but she was very nice. As for the doctor best one ever! Dr. Medhian you are by far the best surgeon!
Rude staff especially in MRI department. I've waiting for my MRI appt. 5 months. really??? and now I need to work on the day that they gave me @ 12:30noon coz I'm finish 3pm so I try to resched for another day the sooner. the staff who answered me say's they booked till December 2018.!! take note December, 2048 and as far as I know MRI routine is 24/7 and they all booked..!!! I will not go to this hospital anymore.. staff is not helpful and the lady who answered me was telling me. I don't think so if I could help you not till next year.. Really.???? No passion to take care people.!!!
Just got out of surgery and NYGH outpatient care for Appendicitis. One of the if not the best hospital in not only Toronto but in Canada. Most doctors are very knowledgeable and caring, and provide very good care. Thank you.
I unfortunately have been here a few times, mostly in ER. Usually an ok experience considering how busy this place is except the one time the doctor asked the nurses to give me an IV but they totally forgot and I had to ask them. Considering what I was going through it was a rough experience. I do however have to give the ppl that work here some credit. They deal with A LOT of patients and for the most part they are nice to you and they do their best.
Just delivered our first born child here last night, the maternity ward was amazing. All the nurses we so knowledgeable, supportive and honestly life savers. My wife was in labour for 3 days and active labour for 26 hrs. This team helped us bring our beautiful baby girl into the world.
The nurses in the yellow zone we’re just so terrible. Seriously they made us wait for 2 hours for the results of ultrasound. They’re super defensive even if you were just asking. Not a very good hospital to go to. Won’t support them anymore. From the moment we’ve come in until we went home its like 6 plus hours.
I am Writing this review for a specific person, who works in the Emergency. not only she is not professional in her job but even doesn’t know how to behave with emergency patients, my arm is injured and bruised cause she didn’t know how to do the IV and still she did not follow the code of ethics I was treated like a piece of meat.
First of all, as soon as you enter the emergency room ONLY ONE nurse works at check in and triage. Very unorganized. Second of all, they didn’t took blood pressure all the emergencies I’ve went to did it and this one didn’t. Third of all, when we directed to Green Area and we got seated at the room the paper sheets of the bed were not changed at all. Very unorganized and not clean. Fourth of all, they take their time to see patients And lastly, very unprofessional.
It was a great and lil bit traumatic but successful experienced to me and to my husband. i want to thank nurse Ana C. from labour and delivery. she really helped us and she is a very supportive nurse. and also thank you to the other team and to my ob dr. Angela Kang. Thank you for all your help. :)
They don't know what's mean Emergency, urgent. I don't think so it's hospital I think it is coffee shop …
Don't go there for a Covid-19 test. Needed to get a test done to visit my dad at a retirement home, no symptoms. It was like a regular ER visit, 2 levels of triage before being allowed into the Covid Assessment Centre, and then I had to wait again for a doctor after the swap was taken. Contrary to what the Ontario government says, a Health Card is required here.
It is a good idea to be your own advocate at this hospital. I have had two very bad experiences in the past two years. I was misdiagnosed when I had a serious throat infection (supraglotitis). I was sent home with a benadryl only to come back a day later to be admitted to the ICU. Grateful for many nurses and doctors who put in extremely long hours but things have to be a little better.
The most dumb hospital I have been seen in my life unprofessional staff and most of the doctors they have no any experience at all special the kids department they should go back to school to study again I believe so
Doctors are great. Nurses are hit and miss. Even after I complained to patient experience and the unit manager I was still forced to be served by this male nurse. Complete diaster not healing because of the poor care. Feel trapped like in prison
Terrible hospital. Was there for 6 hours and was referred by a doctor to a specialist and when went to the specialist waited for 3 hours and then they said they did not receive any referrals from the hospital. The genius doctor had not sent the referral. I feel sorry for whoever receives medical services in this country.
Awesome staff with excellent bedside manners! Checked in to the ED for some obstetric/GI concerns, was in and out of there within 4 hours after being assessed, receiving bloodwork, medications, ultrasound and ECG which is pretty impressive. I've also taken family here before, have always been treated with respect and never waited super long at all. Also, Dr Alice Pham and the L&D staff are the most wonderful human beings ever. Didn't feel a thing during my c section, baby was healthy. Nurses (Amelda, Betty, Natasha) were all incredible and made us laugh the whole time. Spent an entire hour going through one on one discharge teaching. Makes St Mike's Hospital look like absolute trash lolol.
So thankful to the emergency and green zone staff. One of the worst days (snow traffic etc) to slip and fracture my wrist. The Dr's,nurses were fabulous. Thank you so very much????
I was refereed to the early pregnancy clinic in NYGH by my doctor. I was seen almost immediately and also before my appointment time. The OBGYN was very nice and explained everything to me in detail so I could understand what was going on. I am very happy with the care I received. I’m hoping I won’t have to go back there but if I do, I feel more comfortable knowing I will be taken care of. My only complaint is that the clinic was a bit difficult to find in the hospital but that could have just been me.
At this hospital, you will learn why and how our health care system is free. It doesn’t matter if you have an appointment or not, you will have to plan to spend almost whole day at the hospital. They are most likely always short staffed or pretended to be short staffed, and make you wait without any notice or further update. You just have to sit and wait until someone has a cycle to talk to you. You would see all those patients being served before you because either they’re old or in pain. I understand why people flee Canada when they need serious health care attention and I might have to do the same to keep myself alive.

I had the worst experiences at this hospital I was there yesterday September 19 2021. I was feeling alot of pain in my knee go down in my leg and there was this one girl name Britney she was a receptionists at the front desk. she help safe me from the worst pain of my life I cried and I cried so much and Britney helped me and check up on she so nice she have blue and purple hair.????????⚕️ she deserves alot pay than the doctors she does. anywhere you at in the world at a clinic are hospitals your customers always come first..
Arrived at the ER at early morning hours and had to wait for 3 hours while only 1 patient was being treated ahead of me. Later came to know that there was a shift change and the doctor was late for work.
Free healthcare, your time is worthless, The doctor's time is precious, There is someone who is worse off than you, so have a seat for 6 hrs. By the way here is your 53.53% income tax bill + 820 for EI I and another 2,500 for CPP and another 7,000 for property tax and 13% HST on anything you buy. We are also mortgaging your future tax payments because we have a budget deficit. Thanks for shopping at the CCCP.
We went to ER to get our daughter (2 year old) blood work done. I understand it’s not high priority but the wait was way too long. After 3 hrs of wait , the blood drawing was done in a very inefficient manner. The person drawing the blood had to poke our daughter multiple times to get to the vien. It was a very stressful experience for us as parents as well.
Some of the rudest, most uncaring staff ever encountered in medicine. Totally inconsistent diagnoses and information, all dependent on the doctor of the moment (if you're lucky enough to even find one). Very dirty rooms and common areas. If you don't have someone advocating for you or your family member, don't expect to get so much as water. North York reflects a garbage dump more than it does a hospital, except that the people working in a garbage dump care more about the service they provide than the medical staff here do.
Even if I was dying, I would rather pass on to the afterlife than go back to this hospital. I came in to get 3 stitches at 10 in the morning when it wasn’t that busy and I sat in the ER for 10 hours, constantly being told that the doctor would come soon until they finally admitted that they lost my file. When I was admitted for a suicide attempt they stuffed me in a dark room by myself for 9 hours and then when I told them I was fine and wanted to go home they stuck me in a psych ward for 3 days, like being stuck in a hospital wing with other mentally unstable people does anything to heal me. Every time I’ve been they treated me like cattle and forgot about me in the waiting rooms. I’m way too broke to have a lawyer but if I did I would be digging through ways to sue this dumpster fire of a hospital.
Nice people but poorly organized hospital. Once they gave me wrong location and sent me to another location. This time they missed a test! I double checked with them if I’m good to go, they said yes but then they called me to come back because they missed a test! Every time something is wrong even though people are working hard here :(
Visited Emergency - Yellow zone with my wife on Sept 13 around 2 am and Sept 14 around noon. Night shift was awful except for 1 lady-nurse who was doing all the work. The other guy was very lazy - picked up papers from the only after 30 mins of waiting and all this time he wasn't busy. At some point I saw him sleeping on the chair in the nurse room. But doctor was the worst. He spent less than 10 seconds communicating with us and all the he said was that "it seems like" we've ok now and can go home. All the information about my wife's condition we've got only by chasing him down the hallway. But he wasn't rushing to another patient. He was rushing to his desk. Failed to tell the nurse to take blood work. We only had it done because we've asked the nurse and she has double-checked with the doctor. Upon returning home my wife was still bleeding, had fever and pain. We didn't know if that was normal or not so had to return to Emergency Sept 14. This time the shift was much better. Great nurses and doctor. I only give 2 stars because of them.
I am thoroughly impressed with the care and service this hospital has given my grandmother. The doctors and nurses are kind and friendly and given the hectic nature of their jobs are always there when you need them. I also have to extend a huge thank you to all the cleaning staff as well. The rooms and halls are constantly being cleaned and sanitized. Caring for the sick and elderly is not easy and every single person I’ve come across here has been great. Thank you to all the amazing staff here.
Today I Just called Fracture clinic North York General Leslie 0803am the staff that answered the phone has no patient /costumer service at all ,just very , rude just hang up the phone while iam still talking on the other end Hope the CEO of the hospital will see this... December 23 I brought my sister to North York Emergency with a swollen ankle from a fall was seen and examined.xrays was completed read by Emergency Oncall doctor informed us Xrays looks very good. No fracture but mainly.a sprained ankle /foot ,sent home and book for a follow up at the fracture clinic January.... December 25 we got a call from Dr.Hellman asking the patient to go.back to Emergency as he saw a fracture on his foot/ankle according to the Xray image he read ,review.after 2 days BIG TIME wrong diagnosis Emergency Doctor / Scary Huh . Thank you Dr.Hellman
This hospital emergency department doctors are not doctor because they said I got tendonitis but it was wrong!!! They just gave me pain killers. But I went to other hospital they said I got neck disk from mri xray and other tests! Are they have license? Seriously?
This this the worst hopsital. The staff are unorganized and seem to have more conversation with their peers or collages rather than the patients. The nurses are rude, and don’t sympathize when one is sick, because they’re following protocols. North York General needs to do better.
We had our first baby here this week. The doctors and nurses are very friendly and made sure we are well informed about the procedures. Everything is very systematic here. Kudos to all doctors and nursing staff for making our journey memorable.
3 hours and 15 minutes for COVID-19 testing after arguing for it. Then you realize it’s with absolutely no order being given, they just choose who they want to let out first. I Was literally sitting inside for a doctor for 30 minutes after being tested and then was dismissed without seeing doctor. Every time someone brought up being cut in line the nurse would just rudely remind the patient they know their name by violently asking for their wristband and then telling them they are wrong and that they have their own order of doing patients. Costed me $22 in parking to get tested, and over 3 hours of my life, and stress of telling the doctor that I’m not gonna quit smoking lol.
Yesterday I had bad,bad experience. My opinion nurses absolutely so rude, irresponsible and completely unprofessionally stupid. I almost past out from the painkiller that they provide me to my vein. substones had dose of narcotic which leads me to highly panic attack,anxiety....I asked to stop it because I felt really bad my blood pressure went down, heart start betting very fast....And nurse was saying oh you are so sensitive tried convinced me to continue the process until i stop her. I saw how old ppl was crying, asking for help nobody was paying attention and ignoring them. I am deeply disappointed of them as human beings.
Wait times in ER 5 to 8hours. Nurses during the evening shifts are inexperienced. We had one nurse who tried measuring blood pressure at the same time trying a strap on one arm to grab blood for testing. Not only that, the nurse also forgot to do urine samples, which should have been on her top priorities list. Very disappointed in the receptionist and nurses who was extremely rude. Overall this hospital needs to train their staff again. Would not reccomend this hospital if you are need an emergency.
Horrible. Absolutely horrible. 1st they had my appointment wrong and now have to wait 3 mo the before I can get an MRI which was ordered 6 months ago. Was wearing a mask and was told I can't wear it. I told them I had sensory issues and the guy kept pushing on me that i have to wear what he gives me. I told him I ha ha sensory issues,SPD and he said ok. Went in for x-rays that's located on the 1st floor. When done I went back to the ground to leave. Was stopped by security and told I have to go back to the 1st floor to exist. There is no signs posted saying you have exit on the 1st floor.
Such a shame called hospital! Thanks to the Liberals and their weak government for lowering quality of care for people of Ontario. A 6-month waiting time for a MRI to be done at 1:00 am during weekend! People of Ontario will throw you out of power soon.
Does “free health care” means experiencing the worst service at an Hospital. The people at the MRI department has no self respect. I would rather pay and get the care and service I need and deserve as a living human.
Im still now in the hospital in the EMERGENCY been waiting from 3:00 to 6:14am now without seeing the doctor yet. Thay say we only have 1 doctor. Hopefully im not gonna die here.
Today I called them to book a Covid test appointment and got the appointment at 5 pm. The girl who booked it for me also provided a confirmation number. But when I reached there, the assessment center was closed! And after reaching there I came to know that the center closes at 4pm. So, how come an attendant of the hospital booked appointment for me at a wrong time!? I had a fever and I took an Uber to reach there. Now, who is gonna compensate me for my time, health, and money!? I called this hospital first time, but got a disgusting experience.
Super Busy, but they have a very organized and efficient ER with highly skilled triage nurses. Same system should be implemented at other hospitals.
Wait times are absolutely atrocious... waited 6 hrs in emergency room before finally getting to see a nurse and then another 2 hrs before doctor shows up and spends 2 mins.. there has to be more efficient way of running our healthcare.....:(
Went friday had trouble breathing. Gave me some liquid to drink and sent me home. Could not breathe still next day, gasping for air, and they sent me home, didnt check vitals. Told me im breathing fine. Sorry but i know when im breathing right and this isnt it.
This is generally a good hospital but the wait time can make things difficult sometimes. Fortunately during my visit at around 3am things went relatively quickly. I had triage, registration, blood work and an IV with pain meds and fluids within about 15 minutes. The folks at the ER were very nice albeit a bit busy. But they were understanding and accommodating to me which I really appreciate. Stana was my technologist later in the morning and she was fantastic. She explained everything and was very professional. While waiting for the results of the DI, I met a volunteer named Christian who was super nice directing me where to wait and offered me a cup of tea as j was having trouble keeping my eyes open after only sleeping for about an hour since I first arrived at the hospital. The green zone is absolutely the worst though. I had two different people tell me "I can't help you" when all I did was ask my place in line because I've been here for over 2 hours and at the hospital for over 4. Absolutely ridiculous. No empathy, nobody cares. That's a real piss off since all I was waiting for is a doctor to tell me what's in a report from DI which has been prepared hours ago. Ultimately my diagnosis led to a surgery consult which was scheduled VERY quickly- about a week later. My surgeon Dr Jain was incredibly professional and so kind. He explained everything in explicit detail and assured me I'd be taken care of. On the day of the surgery I was really nervous but again Dr Jain was there for me, assuring him and his team would do their utmost for my safety and comfort. It's now been several days after my surgery and I am healing well though in quite a bit of pain still. I just want to express my deepest gratitude for the countless people involved in my care from ER to OR. They do a largely thankless job and make such a difference in the lives they touch. Thank you for helping me.
The worst hospital I've ever been to. The staff - not just a few bad apples, but the staff as a whole - are very unkind. This is not just my experience, but was shared by all the other patients I had contact with while in there, as well as …
Thank you North York General for sending my 83 year old father in a “private ambulance” to be billed later at 2 in the morning without his coat, shirt or shoes. I had to send a friend to pick this up from your Lost and Found that the Emergency Nurse threatened would be emptied at any time.
Today April 5th 2021 I visited North York General Hospital for my reoccurring abdomen pain. A terribly sick couple were sitting in emergency salon coughing very hard into the air close to everyone and right in front of the triage. Me and couple of others had no choice but to stand in front of them for triage and they were coughing constantly close to us for a good fifteen minutes and the staff were doing nothing. The couple were clearly extremely sick! Why did the staff let them sit so close to everyone in the most crowded place of the emergency salon right in front of triage and yellow zone!? I had two masks on and the couple had masks too but I asked for a covid test right after getting exposed to their cough. It was too early for the covid test but chances are really high for us that we have gotten covid virus from them. People are ordered to be cautious for covid but I believe mismanaged hospitals and nursing homes are the center of the outbreak. I quarantined myself today from my parents and I will get myself tested again in couple of days. And will never forget getting exposed to covid virus so carelessly in North York General Hospital.
Had a CT scan done there around 6:00 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2017. A truly great experience. First, the two ladies at the CT Registration desk were super polite and efficient. Then, the RN (Esperanza Fan, I believe) did the prep including medical questionnaire and inserted this huge needle in such a skillful manner that I hardly even noticed. She was also very pleasant to deal with it, efficient and polite. Finally, same great professional work by the young lady operating the CT machine. It may sound like an overkill, but I actually felt happy about our whole health care system. Thank you ladies. P.S. This does not change my grudge against this Farhan character at the MRI lab. Just think totally opposite of what I just said about the CT personnel. It's been almost three years since I had the misfortune to be (mis)handled by this guy and I am still mad at him.
Visiting on 15 November 2019, my first impressions of the South Entry was WOW: beautiful, with five Christmas trees within sight and two copiously staffed information booths. A couple hours later, though, at lunchtime the 1st-floor information booth had just one person, who spoke poor English and we couldn't understand each other well after I waited in the queue. So, staffing could be more consistent, and the timing of lunch breaks could be considered. I moved to the Medical Imaging section (1st floor), Waiting Area 4. This took longer than predicted (it took 80 minutes before I saw somebody). Not because they mixed up my name (they called for somebody with a somewhat similar surname but were kind of guessing), but chiefly because of the wait time for the 4th-floor blood work people to contact the first-floor people. Not impressive timing but at least the information came through and I am grateful. Next I had a nurse debriefing in the Recovery Room around the corner. This is an unexpectedly cold room so I recommend to other patients to bring a blanket; patients present were struggling evidently with this. Also the nurse was multitasking between debriefing me at her desk and tending to a patient, so you'll want to budget plenty of time for your debriefing session. It got better after the first 20 or 30 minutes when two more nurses arrived to help in the Recovery Room. Then my first trip was done. I returned on 18 Nov 2019. At the first-floor Medical Imaging desk (Main/Xray desk), I asked for a copy of a medical image. They gave me a Pockethealth registration form, which said I could submit it to diagnostic imaging. I filled it in and returned it but they refused it and said I had to make the request online. I asked whether the form was wrong and the receptionist said 'yes'. Subsequent followup with the hospital did not corroborate her story but I was grateful that a Patient Relations Specialist followed up with this quickly. This means that if you are a patient using the stack of forms on the Main Xray Desk then they should have cleared up this misunderstanding by now. Fingers crossed! Overall I was grateful for the hospital and its staff.
Worst experience ever - they don’t understand what ‘Emergency’ means ! Why would a patient come at 2am for the problem - when he has to wait for next 5-6 hours for help. Ridiculous assistance ever. Waiting time just to know the results is FOREVER.
99% of the doctors and nurses working here would be unemployed in a non-union, private sector circumstance. I hope the provincial government makes further salary cuts to reflect the utter lack of effort / urgency.
My father is 90 years old and was admitted to this hospital after the car accident. The staff was very dedicated and caring. Kept him for 5 days and checked his condition with care and love. Thank you very much!
Came to emerg for the first time around midnight and saw the doctor around 2:30, so that's good. However, he only spoke to me for 3 minutes MAX, kept interrupting me as I tried to explain what brought me there, and spoke with minimizing and judgemental word choice and tone...they did do a blood test, which I was hoping for, but after getting the results, the doctor didnt seem too interested in reassuring me or suggesting other possibilities or recommendations for different tests, or managing symptoms....it was just "I dont really know" and "see your family doctor" even though I told him I have a hard time scheduling with them due to their irregular hours. Didn't get his name, unfortunately
I broke my arm in 2019 and got my surgery done here. The front desk was actually amazing and so was the doctor that saw me that night. However, my surgeon Mastrogiacomo, Frank. Had poorly executed my surgery and my recovery. Years to find out later he left me with, what’s called a Keloid scar, and it’s a huge one going down my right arm. Basically means the wound was never properly closed nor snitched up and the tissue starting healing outside the actual wound. I clearly remember him saying when taking the cast off, “let’s see that ugly scar”. I also have around 13 screws in my arm for a broken humerus… I don’t even try calling them what can they even do. My recommendation is try to avoid surgery if possible. Stay safe and eat healthy.
Horrible experience. I was rushed over in am ambulance because I was bleeding a lot due to a dental complication. I was waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and nobody helped me. Eventually I lost my cool and demanded to see someone because I had blood all over myself. Doctor was rude and indifferent. Nurses reminded me of a bunch of little kids who had their first day in a science class. Just absolutely horrible experience. Want help? Go to Mount Sinai, they actually have doctors there who are ready and willing to help you. Mount Sinai was a wonderful experience. Helpful nurses, AMAZING ER dentist. Wonderful by comparison. North York is a nightmare, a nightmare I hope never returns.
I had the best experience yesterday in the emergency room. I was taken care of very fast. The doctors and nurses were all amazing. They kept checking in on me and sent me for every possible test they could think of. All in all, great hospital, great Yonge polite, professional, up beat, caring staff. I will always go back in case of an emergency. Hopefully there won’t be anymore emergencies!
Waited and still waiting for almost 12 hours just to get my IUD removed. Spoke to a doctor, got an ultrasound and waited 4 hours just to see a gynocologist for 2 minutes and had me sent back to the waiting room. Now they are sending me off to make an appointment with another OBGYN. Absolutely ridiculous!
Had collarbone surgery (same day) and dealt with 2 orthopedic specialists at the fracture clinic for follow-up appointments and referrals. NYGH is super efficient at getting the care I needed. No complaints from my end.
Firstly, This is the washroom that you get from a private room which is extra 300$. I believe this room is about 30 years old.. never been renovated as you can see the picture. I will not even talk about the noise in the hallway while you are trying to get rest after a surgery. This health system is disgusting. Not sorry to say that.
Overall the hospital is good. However, it needs some updates. The test/lab results should given to patients via email or mobile. Instead of have patients wait for doctor come back from lunch to get the results. Or/and have 30 patients waiting. Second, after baby delivery, the $250 room is no different from the free rooms. See picture, 2 families just a curtain away from each other. Zero sound proof, no wall or anything. Two babies, one cries another next, nurses walk in and out every 2 hours check on each baby. no sleep for 4 parents. Dad worried 24, 48 hours or more, not even a sofa bed in the room. Not worth $250.
Rarely ever post a review but I want people to watch out and not go through what I went through at this hospital ! This place went down from bad to worse in the last 2 years ! I had my third baby in this hospital and Experienced the worse three days of my life . I was a csection couldn’t move at all the first night. Had to sleep in dirty sheets when I asked for a clean one the nurse told me this is all they have. When I paged a nurse to come to my room ,they were either on lunch break or took at least 30 minutes to get to my room. I was in so much pain my doctor prescribed pain killers like he did with my other two csections which I felt no pain , they never gave it to me , I was taking regular pain killers . I am a very reasonable person and do not complain about anything ! (I guess being nice is not appreciated anymore ) They had a different name tag on my baby’s foot and the correct name on his wrist . Thank Goodness one of the nurses noticed that the second day when she was giving him a bath. Still said nothing I let it go ! Another nurse confused me with a different patient. Realized it after a 20 min conversation. Luckily she didn’t give me any medication !!!!! I asked for a private room which wasn’t available until the second night of my stay . I was in a semi private room , sharing one washroom which was dirtier than a public bathroom. When I informed one of the nurses at the desk she said she would send someone to clean nobody even showed up . I was using the bathroom in the hallway ! Rude staff , horrible service , nobody really works they are always on break. I’m just happy that I don’t need to deal with this hospital again !
Even if I was dying, I would rather pass on to the afterlife than go back to this hospital. If you gave me the choice between this hospital and a pile of rubble in Syria I would choose Syria. I came in to get 3 stitches at 10 in the morning when it wasn’t that busy and I sat in the ER for 10 hours, constantly being told that the doctor would come soon until they finally admitted that they lost my file. I’m way too broke to have a lawyer but if I did I would be digging through ways to sue this dumpster fire of a hospital.
Update as of January 7, 2022 - very poor COVID safety protocol compared to other hospitals. There is no distancing or plexiglass between ER seats, and a fresh mask is not provided to people. As of writing this review, there were many people packed in the ER having to sit right beside each other. My original review from about a month or so ago: Lack of adequate emergency care & dangerous meds prescribed to breastfeeding mom: 1. This hospital has no ultrasounds available after 10pm, which can dangerous for certain emergencies. I had sudden postpartum swelling and increased pain/bleeding within a week of giving birth, and waited 4-5 hours with swollen legs and pain before they told me at around 5:30am that they don't have ultrasounds available overnight. They told me I could go home and come back at 9am, or wait in the hospital until 9am. 2. The treating doctor prescribed a medication and said it was safe for breastfeeding, but my OB said absolutely not because it can hypermetabolize into something harmful for the baby and is common knowledge regarding that particular medication. There are some good doctors and nurses at this hospital, but the experience I described above, and the lack of ultrasound availability for approximately 12 hours, is quite concerning.
I went to the Emergency for serious issue that happened suddenly!! I have received the most professional service also great kind people who can understand you’re feelings! Perfect , thank you everyone for the executional service!!
My younger son born there, everything was perfect...
Well. First of all. I don’t hate this place. From what I can see from the staffs, those who are working at RECEPTION has to be trained in term of their communication, their intention towards their patients. I know this comment has a powerful meaning. If you care about your business, care to train your stuffs to be more polite. Thank you.
I had a day surgery yesterday and went through a lot of pain! A lot! When I complained to the nurse ( Irene ) she said: you had a volunteered surgery not a surgery for cancer. Being in pain and fuzzy with anesthesia I couldn't answer her but now at home I'm wondering what kind of a bedside manner that is! I most certainly didn't do the surgery for beauty and I don't understand the treatment. Thank heaven most front line workers are honorable people and not like my nurse.
I went for surgery for my nose today, nasal cyst. From the moment I got there it was so pleasant. Didn't grab her name but the nurse who got me and showed me where to my personal belongings and locker was very pleasant to talk to, Martin the nurse who brought me towards the OR room was nice and made me feel excited for the surgery rather than be scared because he was so calm and positive about it as if it's nothing to be worried about, then I met my anaesthiologist dr Yoon who was so down to earth and I felt like I was in good hands, and then finally dr Shah, the ent specialist, oh boy did he did a wonderful job on my nose. He hid the scar so well, very minimal damage and I can finally breathe through my nose!!!!! And last but not least, waking up to have Angela (nurse) to help me get back on my feet and go home. She was so caring and took care of me as if she was my mom . So glad I got my surgery done here and I wouldn't have asked for any other team than them. Thank you!
Horrible. The management, staffs and nurses are not friendly, lacks simple humanity in activities.Patients & bystanders are treated in a bad manner. Pregnancy assistance is very poor and poorly handled.Pathetic!
There may very well be a better hospital out there, but this one succeeded in helping me deliver my first child and we are both healthy and happy. A sincere thank you to all the kind, knowledgeable and well-trained staff who helped to make this possible.
Here for ultrasound and labor during covid. All the staffs are professional and nice. The meals are not really flavourful but healthy.
Dr. Zhang (General Surgeon) at North York General Hospital delivers high quality patient care. She is intelligent, informative and has a caring disposition. I am impressed by her and would recommend her to my family and friends.
Went here for my third dose. Everyone is professional except I just became aware the parking is not free. Why the heck I didn't choose any pharmacy near my house in Markham. ????????
Though my recommendation would be to steer-clear of hospitals, in general, this hospital is quite good. They appear to know what they're doing and the staff is friendly and helpful to a fault. The premises are kept clean and well organized with a good amount of signage. The nursing staff in 7/8 SE (and quite possibly other areas) should get some sort of medal. My only beef with this hospital is the daytime robbery that's taking place when you checkout from the parking lot. (I recommend a weekly pass if you intend to come visit more than twice in any 7-day period.)
Advise to the hospital, Hire some receptionists to pick your directory phones. I have a called dozens of times (to various extensions) to book an appointment for MRI, no one picks up the phone, no one listens to the voice mails left, no one returns calls. What's the point of listing all these phone numbers on your website, if no one answers them.
Nice friendly staff and helpful. Doctors are wonderful and compassionate. . Great facilities. There are lots of parking 4.75 for 30 minutes or less or $22 for the whole day. This time they very careful of people coming in. They individually check the covid vaccine record. The hospital is very clean. Location is right at Highway 401 Leslie exit. When coming inside has to be in tge main entrance and the exit will be in the side at Gulshan building closer to emergency department.

I'm here since 6am. Caring and nice staff ???? It's same I'd heard about ER in Canada. They take care of urgent cases super quick! Thanks to RN Hara ???????? Gave her a hard time to get blood work done on dehydrated hidden deep veins of mine????...and thanks to Dr. Homuth! ????????
I brought my father to the ER last night around 10pm and he was having chest pains and his legs where swollen. When we arrived we noticed a bunch of people coughing and sitting close to one another I first noticed theres no social distancing. When my father got admitted in after an hour of waiting the triage told him to wait in waiting room and they would call him in. Long story short they took blood hooked him up machines and that they goin to do ultrasound. After 3 hrs of sitting in a room its almost 2am im with my father the doctor walked in to tell us they can't do ultrasound because they closed. I get frustrated and angry that they couldn't tell us this before we sat here for nothing. Then the doctor says there's nothing they can do but to come back next day for appt for ultrasound and remember I paid 22 dollars for parking and now I have to come back again to waste more hours and pay for parking again so we left around 2:30am tired and frustrated. I only slept for 5 hours just to come back for 10am appt so my dad can get an ultrasound and talk to doctor and get meds prescribed after sitting in the hospital for 5 and half hours and paying another 22 dollars for parking. I have never experienced such poor terrible quality in a hospital and no care in covid this is by far the worst place to come for any kind of emergency help. You will walk in with one thing and walk out with you catching covid unorganized and unprofessional.
Very awful two night experience. The nurses I were assigned to were not very helpful. My nose constantly congested and nothing they had in the entire hospital helped. In fact, most of them lamented my situation (recovery from jaw surgery) and did not try to make the experience more bearable. My parents did most of the work.
Not the way you would treat patients. I asked the doctor for something to present to my workplace for the days I was going to rest at home and he responded with ok but then walked out the door and never came back. Then the assistant came to give me a pull and I asked her about that and she responded "the doctors gone and I can't do anything, if you want go run after him"!
Mother and baby unit was a Nightmare . I had C section for my baby in this hospital which was great but after they moved me to the unit it was like hell. First they won't give you private room so you cant rest a bit as either your baby or neighbours crying. Second Nurses are so un attentive with no care and empathy . As a first time mom with major surgery ( c section) I didn't receive any response when I call for nurse. And when they come they have bad attitude and they say we have so many patients and we can't come for small problems each time you call. They took me 2 days for nothing , didn't get any care or help. Just stressed out with loud and depressing environment
In the last 15 years maybe its my 3rd or 4th happened that I come to this emergency and every single time it gets even worse. I'm at emegency right now,Zero manner, every single nurse and doctor are negative , you never even see them smile , simple blood test x-ray takes for ever, it seems like all the staff hate their job , sleepy and aggressive staff , you can't even asked them a question, Zero patient care. nothing looks right in this place.
NOTHING GOOD TO SAY, nothing but bad experiences here. went here for my prenatal ultrasound, waited an hour and half for an appointment that first thing in the morning. The sent the ultrasound results to WRONG doctor and where not helpful in getting it resolved. the parking cost is outrageous, and the proceeds don't even go to the hospital but the church of all places. paid $25. not to mention my grandmother also died at this hospital the year prior. NOTHING GOOD TO SAY!
Very nice building with great doctors.
Went to the emergency room referred from another hospital emergency to see the eye doctor on a sunday. They were friendly and fast and very thorough. On a side note, parking is cheap
I went there last week. Had my Double mask on I was ask to take it off and put on a surgical one which I think its not safe . They only ask u if u have symptoms and not test u .at times symptoms don’t show and that’s risky..... they have one mask on but face shield so it’s easy for patients to pass it from other patients but they don’t care...... also I have being there for 6 hrs and not once I see cleaners wiping or cleaning the bathroom
Typical Canadian health care system: long waits, poor care, indifferent doctors. Expect to come multiple times for the same problem. You will be sent home with the problem not resolved, they will give you just pain killers for a kidney stone and no follow up. This place is a great example of what is so terribly wrong with health care in Canada. Update Sep 2020: Covid testers and regular patients are mixed together so you might get more than what you came for. Absolutely terrible place, with no respect for patients.
Went to ER in a Yellow Zone with some weird symptoms. Everyone was very polite, efficient and had a time to explain everything despite being obviously busy. All in all I did crazy amount of tests and got the results in less than 4 hours of being there.
brought my significant other here on saturday evening, only had to wait 1.5hrs from start to finish (i know how most hospitals works and this is quite reasonable compared to my previous experiences). received an appointment for a ct/scan first thing the following morning (8:15am but was taken in by 7:35am). based on our experience, 5 star for the prompt and courteous service.
I didn't know that I was having a LIFE THREATNING allergic reaction to some foods I had ate. This morning I woke up with horrible facial swelling and I felt that I was going numb in my face and it travelled down my throat. I dreaded the thought of going to the hospital emergency, as I didn't want to spend hours in the waiting room. Today I was so grateful that the emergency room existed. The Reception Assistants were efficient and polite. The admitting staff was so prompt polite, and attentive they knew that I was in a life threatening situation even though I was able to function as if I was normal. with the exception of my face looking like it was totally abnormal. I was brought to the room and The nurse on duty "SUSAN" was my super star and the emergency doctor "Nick" was "SUPERMAN" I felt that I was in the best possible care there was IN MY TIME OF NEED. I needed to be on Intravenous for five hours to ensure I was stable. He gave me medication to help me and referred me to the doctor that could follow up with. I guess we all want to treated as soon as we go to the emergency room at the hospital, but after today I realize, that they know when it is life and death and take care and do their best to help you back to health. Thank you NYGH....today you were AMAZING and I want you to know YOU ARE ALL APPRECIATED by what you do to help people with their health problems. You have a special gift and bless all of you for the vocation you have chosen to help people in need of urgent care.
Left a voice message a week before my appointment to confirm it and never got a response. The date has passed and I'm afraid I'll have to wait another 7 months. What makes things worse is I also have an MRI I'm trying to push back due to starting a new job on that date. Left a voice message, doubt they'll get back to me anytime soon. I'm not criticizing the employees. I'm criticizing the system of never being able to reach a real human being, which makes me believe the hospital does not respect their patients' time.
Usually I'm very understanding but the rudeness in this place is too much. No empathy nor sympathy. You come to emergency to get help, and this hospital only gives ignorance. The right hands don't know what the left hands are doing. Internal communication is THE worst. You were told to move back to the waiting room and 5secs later doctor came grab you back -WHY can't they talk? Staff's jokes are very inconsiderate. Male residence doctor: Shouting name Old lady: Right here The doctor: Why are you wearing sunglasses? Is it sunny in here? Female residence doctor: Shouting name Old lady on the wheel chair: I'm right here. I don't see anyone coming here to get my yellow chart...I've been waiting here for 2hours and no one came to help me. The doctor: *with stern voice* I'm sorry to hear that. Can you go to the room for assessment. Like NO EFF givens in this place. Staffs can be friendly with others but extremely rude to patients. You're in the hospital because you're desperate to seek help. Is Comforting and being helpful too much to ask?
I took my son to the emergency room he cut his forehead and needed stitches. the wait time was extremely long and the nurses and doctors were rude and did not show any empathy at all.
Went for a COVID test on a Wednesday morning at 8am with my 3-year old daughter. I used the one aligned to the emergency room. NYGH has two testing facilities. Processed seemed unnecessarily long for a COVID test. Met with a triage nurse, then a nurse who took our blood pressure, another that confirmed out contact/Health Card information. We then went outside to a temporary tented facility where we did the test. Our file was taken by one of the nurses, and we were called in a private space for the testing. A nurse did the tests, then a doctor came in to ask a few questions and send us on our way. In total, for a test, we interacted with six medial professionals. Doesn't seem like the best way to control a pandemic, but PPE controls etc... were in full effect. Process took 45 minutes... and we never really experienced a line. Just waiting areas. Children and seniors apparently get priority in this testing facility during the hours we were there. I didn't notice any priority, however, because crowd was small, it probably wasn't necessary. It's almost 24 hours later and no results yet. Still early, but I have my fingers crossed I don't have to wait 72+ hours. Interestingly, the NYGH website is down... Why four stars? I really think the process for testing should be streamlined and not part of the regular ER check in process. However, the staff were excellent, professional and efficient. If I get my test results within 24 hours... I'll bump it to five:) Update: Results came through in 60 hours. Given the recent news regarding all the delays and and updated timeline for results of 96 hours, I give NYGH full marks. Five Stars.
The outpatient clinic is definitely not experienced in handling busy days. I’ve been to walk-in clinics with a better system. Appointments were all delayed... wasted my time waiting.
Emergency Dept experience, although scary as I did not know what was happening with my heart, had good, caring people to help me. You get what you give...my natural kindness ti others was definitely given back. Many, many thanks.
Illiterate staff and very hostile/unfriendly...I went here for my wrist 3 times, I was asked at the emergency desk whether I am here to see a doctor? Why else would I come to the emergency, surely not for a coffee break....After seeing the internal medicine doctor who was not specialized in diagnosing fractures, I was told everything is fine, After 3 months I figured my wrist was not fine - after insisting to see a orthopedic surgeon..... I was told that my wrist was actually broken at that time and now healed improperly, which is why I still have some pain with exercising...I have seen people with some serious injuries waiting in the lobby to be called....for hours and hours....avoid this hospital and just drive few miles and go somewhere else if you care about yourself and beloved ones....honestly I don't find this hospital resembling any care facility, I am just wondering how they can keep continue operating....???
I had the experience of going to the emergency in February. It is always packed no matter when you go. On a slow day your wait time might be 3-5 hours compared to 10-12! So be ready to sit down and wait. They have a very neat and organized triage system. First you check-in with a nurse and give a brief reason why you are there. Then you wait to be called. Be patient. There is always someone with a more serious issue walking in, you might even find that your condition improves a bit while you wait. Once you get called into accrue care, you will do some blood tests or imaging fairly quickly. I had an x-ray done at 11 pm at the after-hours imaging department. Then you just wait a bit more for test results and finally the doctor will discuss your condition and course of action/therapy. During my visit, all the nurses, doctors and staff were very friendly and approachable. Hopefully you would never have to go to emergency at NYGH, but if you do, know that you’re in good hands! I would just like to add that the washrooms here are very dirty! Use at your own risk!!!
Me and my husband were their and not in the greatest condition after our baby has passed away. Security decided to interfere with the conversation about 3 different guards. 2 of them were very nice but there was 1 guard who was extremely rude. His badge number is 11183054. He would not get out of my face nor give me space and he kept talking back making comments even after the manager of the security guard was dealing with the issue, her badge is 11163670. She was very nice. As for the other guy they should not have people like that in the customer care field. Very unprofessional and super upset that my tax money goes to this. This security guard made my blood pressure 10x higher especially after losing a baby. again his badge number is 11183054
Comparing to some other hospitals NYG is a very good place to be when you need help.
UPDATE: One person took the issue very seriously. She was very comforting and explained that she would work to make sure that something was done about the incident. She was very competent and made me feel as if I was believed. I also spoke with the charge nurse, who was also extremely attentive and concerned with the situation. I was happy to have atleast some folks on staff who understood the seriousness of the comments made. I hope that in the future training around these issues will help prevent another situation like that. TRANSPHOBIC NURSES. While waiting for my partner to be seen in the "red zone" of the emergency department, 3 nurses stood less than 20 feet away saying awful things about trans women and trans people. I asked for them to stop talking about trans people, and they walked maybe 5 feet further and continued to mock me out loud and within ear shot for asking them to stop. I alerted a nurse at a desk who asked me to show her who, and when I did, one of the nurses in question started yelling at me, telling me to "SIT DOWN AND BE QUIET" repeatedly, and then when I was crying and told him he was yelling and making me uncomfortable, he yelled "BE UNCOMFORTABLE" down the hallway at me. I was told there was nothing that could be done because it's a "he said she said" case, and was also told I would be able to speak to someone else, but also told it wasn't a priority. Doesn't live up to the sign in the waiting room.
We are here since 29 Dec 2020, in pediatric unit. Staff nurses doctors all are amazing. They are taking very good care of my daughter.
Terrible doctors and their behavior. Everyone says they did surgery so bad and not correct (all doctors when they are changing a dressing after surgery are saying). I visit them every day. I was bleeding after my surgery and they just told me to go home exactly after surgery. When I started to go home I started bleeding a lot again. I came back to hospital and all my hand was in blood amd all my pants also. I wanted to came back to the doctor fast because I was so scared. Security guy told me to stand in the line with everyone even I told him that I just had surgery and I’m bleeding now. He could see all my pants in blood and my hand in blood. They just changed dressing for me. All hospital was in blood after this accident. They tild me go home again and gave me some carpet to put on sit in car to don’t make it bloody. When I came home by uber I starter to bleeding a lot. I tried to stop the blood but it just started to go more. All my house in my blood like in horror movie. I called 911 immediately and ambulance guys came to my apartment so fast. They were so good to me and also told me some bad things about doctors who did surgery for me. They said it doesn’t look like they did good job. They brought me to this stupid hospital again and I was bleeding there on wheelchair in line for 20 minutes. My feelings was extremely bad. I couldn’t breathe and all my body shackling and cold. I lost too much blood but no one care about me in that hospital. All doctors saw me there again and their faces were like: “omg you came here again... I’m sick of you”. They changed dressing again and told me to go home. I said I’m scared I’ll be bleeding again and I want stay in hospital a little bit because I really feel so bad. They just kicked me out to the corridor in hospital clothing and everyone look at me all in blood. They even don’t care that some children can get scared of my looking. And now my problem can come back again because they did surgery not good and also I have to pay for ambulance because they did their job not good and I was bleeding.
I am a huge believer in writing reviews in regards to great speedy service... It was my first time at NYGH, 1 day after the long weekend I thought this place was going to be packed. The waiting room was busy, but people we're moving. I was seen by a lovely triage nurse who assessed me and created a file, went back to the waiting room and was called upon within 20 minutes to move to a second waiting area. 20 mins after waiting in this new area, I was called upon by a very sweet nurse, she asked questions and took blood. They were VERY thorough, blood testing, urine, and a full abdominal ultrasound. I was so so pleased that it wasn't the typical " you're fine, blood looks good." I now have some peace of mind and I can say I will go back if things get worse. GREAT EXPERIENCE.
The staff at the ER were the epitome of calmness and professionalism. There were extremely efficient and communicative every step along the way which is exactly what you need when you are in pain or discomfort. The air of liveliness and positivity that the staff managed to keep up through these difficult times of covid was commendable as well. Definitely should be your number one choice.
Can't say enough good things about Labour and Delivery. Had a c section st NYGH this past week and although the nursing teams are being run off their feet this time of year with many babies coming and staff shortages, they were so supportive and kind. I was a nervous wreck about the whole thing as a first.time mom and first.time surgery patient, but the surgeons, anesthesiologist, and nurses were second to none. I am so glad.i chose to deliver with this hospital and am so grateful to the L&D team for my healthy baby girl :)
Okay, The doctors are super nice. Some nurses are very nice too. But my overall experience with nurses and system were horrible. …
Was transfered to hospital by walkin clinic for emergency all i had was fever from last week and cough. Been here since 11:00am just for xray and result now its 4:30 pm . Hate to be waiting for such a small problem. No doctor available to examin xray so that i can leave. Hate
We went to the emergency room at 2:30am and had to wait for about 2 hours before the doctor shows up. It was not busy at that time of night.. The area was a mess. Garbage bags without containers. A patient with serum sleeping right in the hallway. Red dots of dried blood or whatever all over the floor ... I can not believe they call it a hospital ...
Worst hospital ever visited. No proper check ups. Only one doctor at night in emergency. The doctor was rude and arrogant. I waited 7 hrs to see a doctor in emergency. I hope I can review them in negative stars. Will not suggest anyone to visit.
The staff in the emergency room did their job. The food that is served was good enough. Some of the nurses were being particularly chatty with each other when patients required assistance but were able to serve them in a timely fashion. The rooms are maintained well. Overall a good hospital experience.
Really a great hospital. Clean and most staff are friendly efficient and professional.
Whenever I come to this hospital for emergency issues, It takes at least 2 hours for patients to be visited by a doctor. Tonight I am here because my wife cut her finger very badly and needs stitches. After two hours waiting still no doctor to visit my wife. I don't understand how it is possible for Ann emergency ward to detain patients so much. Some nurses do not behave politely. I hope I never have to come this hospital again
Please avoid this hospital if you love your kid, your wife, your husband ,...... A friend of mine lost his wife due to simple sinusitis , it had spread to her nervous system causing meningitis . She presented at ER 3 times with severe headache and swollen face just to be sent home with some eye drop !! She went in coma same night . Next day everything was over . Her 4 year old daughter does not know where her mom is yet. Someone should be responsible for this medical misconduct .
Unfortunately, I had to go to the emergency a couple of times at this hospital. The nurses are very friendly and the doctors are really knowledgeable. The big downside was having to wait for hours and hours before getting examined by the doctors.
I was shocked that they let patients who are aboviously not feeling well to wait sitting on a chair until the IV finished. I swear I was dying on that chair waiting for the IV to finish. I have been to so many Emergency around the world! They always let you lay down on bed! Because you are sick, tired , feeling down. Another thing , there was this nurse called Sherri Gaye she was unbelievably tough and has no sense of caring and humanit. She was such a source of stress to me. She was treating me as if I am in the army not hospital. A nurse should be so caring, polite and sweet. Ah it was a nightmare to me honestly.
Worst service ever! I think they are still in the 50s! They don't care if you r in pain. I was driving to the hospital when the pain around my heart increased with increased pulse. I was relieved when i arrived to hospital. But,just a couple of primitive tests ( heart pressure, pulse, resting ECG which u can do at home) and when they were within limits, they sent me home without any further investigation while I was in considerable pain. I almost fainted.. I guess these people have no feelings except if the patient was a friend or family of one of the staff.
NOT recommended AT ALL for Emergency Ward. I had the WORST experience of my life. I went to the Emergency! this morning at 6am with a Migraines attack and stomach pain. While at the triage they asked me a lot of questions about my identity even though I had my health card in their hands! I asked for a bed to lay down and they said there is no bed available!!! More than five patients were in the waiting area with IV line seated in chairs in front of each other. Watch each other SUFFERING!! For me from third world countries it was unbelievable!! It reminded me of the end of the world movies!! I am worried about the next time! It's better to stay home than being in that ridiculous environment!
I had an amazing experience with the MRI staff today at midnight. Although they all were nice, a radiologist named Bahar was so caring, professional and kind. I would not be able to do my MRI tonight if it wasn't for her help, patience, and have a sense of sympathy and responsibility. Thank you for this great experience.
Wow! Just received a weekend call from a doctor at north York general following up on how my husband was doing after his consult in emerg earlier this week! A first for us and highly commendable, sadly we didn’t get his name to be able to give praise where praise is deserved, but kudos for going the extra mile!
it was one of the worst experience i ever had in hospital. I went in there to get some help for ear canal problems, and the doctor just told me to cleanse it with oil 2-3days and suffer the pain pretty much. I had to wait more than 2hours just to get told to cleanse my ear with oil.. Doctor could've easily used oil droplet to clean my ear and remove ear wax/cotton in my ear and prevent me from getting ear infection. I am going to family doctor rightnow to get some help instead. I am literally in pain and i cannot hear anything with my left ear. very unresponsible and i would not go to this place for any emergency reason. Furthermore, what made me really upset and angry was doctors and nurses did not seem to care about patients. Some patient were in excruiciable pain, and they told the patient to just wait in line while some trashcan who has minor scratch is getting examined. where are the prioritites? people are in pain and suffering they should be taken care of instead of some gangster tattoo minor scratch boy who needs cream to suck it up.. im just so disgusted at this hospital
I went there today for my biopsy. I feel sicked when I get there due to my period. I told to the screening guy it’s just because of my period I will be fine soon. They treat me like I have a Covid-19. I was in pain (cramps) so badly no one came to ask me how I’m doing or anything they can do for me. They just passed by, Nurses and other workers. I know everyone are being PARANOID because of COVID, but common I’m in a hospital. After they got my information, the guy from screening station told me that they cannot do the biopsy today because I vomit. Even it’s not Covid. I do understand because they want to protect other patients too. I haven’t recovered yet and still in pain. The came back and told me to go outside and leave the Hospital..UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Where is your heart? You guys are working in a hospital, do you know the word “COMPASSIONATE?”. I don’t have the strength to argue so I stayed for a couple of minutes and I drag myself to go outside. I feel bad for myself but I feel bad for them because they don’t have a heart. I’m a health care worker too. I’m scared of the Covid too but I will never ask a patient in pain to go outside. No one should be treated like this. Everyone deserves treatment like a human being not like garbage.
Complete waste of time. Got constantly victim blamed and was treated condescendingly by nearly everyone involved in my care. The doctors and nurses constantly focused on the wrong thing, and I felt dehumanized. I needed help, and the people who were being paid to help me, made me feel like I was beyond help. Everyone I spoke to about my experiences here was completely disgusted, including actual nurses. I wouldn't come back here unless I was about to drop dead. Probably not even then. They'd probably treat me like less than a person even then.
Reading lots of scathing reviews. Have to add this however. Took my mother in law in today, and could not have received better care and service. Also very timely. All staff was very well mannered and caring.
My family doctor called me requesting that I go to North York General Emergency for some abnormal blood count. I had an extremely positive experience, especially dealing with the ER Yellow zone's doctors and nurses. The tests were extremely thorough and the doctors extremely caring. The communication with my family doctor was done very effectively. The nurses were delightful...I don't know how they all stay so positive in spite of all the pressure that they have treating so many different cases. Yes, of course, sometimes at any hospital Emergency, the wait time may be long, but this is unimportant in relation to the thorough examination that the doctors and nurses provide. I would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of them.
NYGH parking hack: save yourself $26 and park at IKEA (55 Provost Drive) and walk over. I broke my ankle recently and I'm lucky the ambulance took me to NYGH because the care I've received has been exemplary. I can only speak to the Orthopedics and Plastics Centre (fracture clinic); which is a world-class facility with a staff to match. Dr. Mehdian is a particular asset to the hospital because he went above and beyond to ensure I received the timeliest care for my injury. My anesthesiologist and the nursing staff at Day Surgery were also very compassionate. What also struck me as significant was the dedication shown by the hospital's many volunteers. I would have no issue giving back to this hospital organization because it is giving me so much: my mobility.
I had my MRI here last month and then biopsy today, and both experiences were great with very helpful, caring, and gentle staff. Today’s procedure with Dr Dief and nurse Esperanza Fan was exceptional... i felt so cared for and understood in …
This place goes above and beyond for patient care, WAY better then any of the downtown hospitals could ever give! Went in/out of St. Michael’s about 7 times and always had a horrible experience yet coming here they’ve never disappointed and have always never judged or anything. I recommend this place over any other hospital in Toronto especially the downtown ones.
I spent two days in NYGH this week. I want to say the care I received was extraordinarily professional , detailed and delivered with care and kindness. It was comforting to know you were in good hands all the way. A big shout out to the doctors, nurses, and all the technicians and many other staff who each day together make NYGH run so we’ll so if/when we need their help it is there waiting to serve us also. Thanks!!
if you can avoid this hospital, please do so at all costs. nurses and admin staff are incredibly rude. When I was in the recovery room waking up from surgery, I was rudely awaken every 2 minutes while getting off anesthesia, I was yelled at to the point of tears. I was told “I have other patients I need to worry about” after I told the nurse I was feeling a lot of pain waking up from the surgery. HORRIBLE experience. When I complained, I was told a manager would come speak to me about my experience and that never happened. The nurses are rude to their patients at a very vulnerable time and it is inhumane to treat people that way.
The employees nurses and doctors are extremely nice and understanding, the wait for me was never too long and u really felt that they care because they took the time to explain me what's the problem and what are my possibilities
This hospital hires bunch of unhappy unprofessional people who are unhappy with their work and are rude to whoever they see. The problem starts at the top.
Hamid mojab destroyed my life and career. He suspended my driver's licence for 11 months and I live out of city with limited access to gas stations and shopping mall and grocery stores. I was stuck to stay with him till he writes back to ministry to reinstate my licence he did not care about my life my job and how I was going to go shopping for food and house needs. I lost 45lbs bec I could not eat and sleep properly with stress on how to make money for my family as my newly married wife was going to leave me. I have gone to deep depression and lack of social life. Every time he seen me he ignored my concerns regarding my licence and gives another appointment in 2 months terrible doctor as he should never be a doctor at the first place because he lacks on knowledge and understanding diabetes and patient needs. He purposely ignored me regarding my drivers licence so he charge OHIP Canada as much as he can. Even his secretary at his office and the nurses at the hospital at Finch and Bathurst hate him so much for destroying and playing with poor patients lifes. He cares about OHIP only he won't care about anything in his life other than OHIP. I feel so bad If u are his patient run away as if your licence gets suspended he will make u run around the circle for a year and play you again so he can charge Ohip for thousands of dollars. Terrible doctor. I had to tell him if he don't reinstate my licence I will be reporting him to Physicians college or sue him in the court of law. He is a t Uncaring human being. Stay away for future headaches and sorrow.
Visited my dad in the evening, very rude nursing and front desk staff. Nurse having issues with english language and very rude. "God bless Canadian Health Care System"
I have been in emergency now for 1.5 hours with NO doctors. There are no doctors serving specifically emergency. I am having a bad allergic reaction and was told all the doctors are attending to emergency situations upstairs. Nobody even bothered to take my blood test so far. I haven’t seen such an amateurish approach to a hospital emergency in my life!
Terrible service. Long wait times. Rude staff. Administration staff repeatedly lied to us about having a translator and translator machines which they didn't have. After being told to check blood sugar they forgot and had to be reminded multiple times.
If you want to get COVID tested you are crammed in a room to wait with everyone else who potentially has the virus. It makes absolutely no sense, just my two cents. People are coughing around you and you have to wait there for two hours. There definitely needs to be a better system put in place. Because if I did not have COVID before the test, I for sure got it there.
Emergency care is the worst here. My sister was bleeding heavily and she was 15 weeks pregnant. She had to wait for 6 hours and the doctor was very rude with her when she finally got to see him.
Brought my daughter here as she had chest pains from a car accident, 4 hours in the emergency department and still haven't seen a doctor. Absolutely disgraceful!!!
I've been in emergency due to unexpected issue in my breast I was really surprised with my experience as a first timer visitor, the nurses are very nice, accomodating, helpful and really fast to do the assessment; waiting time is very reasonable because the resident doctor and specialist surgeon who assist me are very diligent and efficient in every details to making sure that my health was in good condition. Thank you so much for the amazing nurses, doctors and the ultrasound department ♡♡♡
Nurses and doctors here don’t care about anything, they’re almost all A-holes.
This hospital is probably the worst in the city! My experience was with their early pregnancy clinic and they didnt even diagnose me properly. Careless doctor and nurses - they didnt take my ultrasound correctly and I had to be rushed to ER due to an infection that night as they couldnt even care to diagnose me with, horrible careless people and my results were forgotten never sent to my family doc - i called 10 times and they still didnt send it as they never saved my records Absolutely horrible i dont recommend any pregnant woman to go there!
Awful experience every time I visit NYGH. No matter how unbusy it is, the workers from start to finish (except the doctors) seem to have no compassion whatsoever. We were waiting for 7 hours to get the blood results back and they offered no updates. We were feverish and asked for Tylenol at the 6 hour mark, and the registration lady agreed to bring one. She left for 10 minutes and came back with nothing and just went about her day. Once again, no updates at all.
Coming to emergency with acute pain to just wait for a doctor to attend for 3 hours and counting. This is not a patient expects when he's in severe pain. Shame on you staff
Go to a different hospital if you can. NYG is often understaffed and the waiting times can be up to 30 hours in my case. Expect doctors and nurses to forget to tell you things and watch out for the night crew in triage. I've heard them openly mock patients. Just try not to go to this hospital basically. The things you'll see and overhear really aren't worth it
Their processes are broken. All my test results were ready. I waited an hour and half for an intern to discharge me. He was gone, no indicistion of him anywhere. Had to ask the nurse to reassign me another doctor! Still in hospital after 7 hours, now waiting for another one to take over my case.... what a mess
This is my first time writing review on google. The two Asian doctors worked on March 23rd morning in the green section were extremely rude. Also another Asian front desk in the film library is also rude. Other than that, the experience was good.
Had the pleasure of meeting with (and witnessing)many kind, compassionate and skilled people today.. Thank you all from emergency services to xray department...thank you.
just got thru a period of unberable pain .Helped me to understand the Canadian Medical system. The only thing that happened was a Xray which showed fracture. For the unbearable pain they suggested nothing and advised that shoppers Drug will advise better. For this one x Ray it took three hours .And to suugest that they first told me that my Xray is ok.But when i said I have pain they rechecked the Xray and said there looks something .Just imagine that I could have been home thiking I am ok.... Even my repeated pleading that my finger is crushed did not help ...but got a rude revert I am still wondering that whether I shoud have first gone to SD and taken pain killer and then gone for my Xray. The only positive was that it helped me understand to what level i can bear the unberable pain and always keep a bottle of ADVIL and Tylenol HANDY:) Two horrors in two weeks @ NY GH !!!!The mere thought of Emergency makes me shiver!!!!
I was discharged from the hospital a few weeks ago when I came to the emergency and then the mental health unit. I got proccessed right away when I came in and got into a room in the emergency. The staff, nurses, and security guards were exceptionally nice, caring and kind and gave me the needed care and information. They were very thorough with testings for Covid, blood tests, and everything. The tranfer from emergency to mental health was very well planned and executed. Eventhough it is a difficult time due to Covid, everyone still worked with care and patience I have to say that I was very pleased with the time I was there, so thank you for everything.
My review is based on the care my father, Simon Shreyberg, received while being a patient here. I can't begin to truly explain my complete gratitude to Dr.Sun and Dr.Mahoney, they literally saved my fathers life. The attention, care, and professionalism they showed towards him put us at ease from the moment we arrived in the emergency room until he was released 2 weeks later. He was diagnosed with a rare condition and he immediately felt he was being treated under the best hands with the most brilliant minds. If it wasn't for them he doesn't feel he would have survived. Also I would like to thank the nurses on the 7th floor SE. Ming, Tammy and Marina for all the care they gave him. U women are my heros!
Thanks again North York Gen! After saving my life from an anaphylactic reaction in 2017, you did it again! This time, I was back at the emerg with what I was convinced was Norwalk. The emerg doc used his good judgement (despite my repeat insistence it was Norwalk gone wrong) and did some abdominal imaging to diagnose me with a burst appendix and abscess. So glad he was thorough and saw it was more serious than stomach flu. The ultrasound and CAT scan departments were so prompt, professional and kind. Dr. Deif skillfully placed an abdominal drain and explained the function in abscessed appendix. The CAT scan staff went out of their way to rush my results to my surgeon making sure my care was prompt. They even changed my abdominal dressing when it got wet. Finally, I came back this past Wednesday about 10 weeks later to have my appendix removed by Dr. Zhang. Dr. Zhang was incredibly skillful and even got my surgery pushed ahead by 2 weeks which I greatly appreciated. I was left with the smallest neat incisions. I can't say enough about how well I was treated at North York Gen. Hope I never have to come back but if I do, I have the greatest confidence in this hospital.

My mother and I went to get her IUD removed, we went to the ER and waited for over 6 hours, and the answer we got was "we don't do IUD removal in ER". We didn't know this and it is an emergency to my mother, she was suffering from prolonged bleeding at periods, she was in pain all time waiting there. At least the hospital could have informed us faster if they are not going to help us there, it was a huge waste of everyone's time.
The ER dept is a joke. Unless you're literally dying , you'll be sitting there for 3+ hours no matter what.
What a nightmare. You expect to go a place where there is mercy and compassion. But the total opposite . unmerciful caretakers . The stroke department is horrendous. Even the social worker when I contacted her when I was in need would not return my calls . Some of the doctors are good, some of the nurses are wicked ,beyond belief. If you want to experience evil welcome to NYGH If I run a hospital with a rating of three stars by the public , I would definitely call for an emergency meeting. WELCOME TO SATAN'S DEN .
Worst hospital ever! We came into this hospital and my mother in law has had high blood pressure at 180 for the past 6 hours. We have told them it’s urgent and are still waiting here after 4 hours!! They love to chat with each other and not give a s**** about their patients!
My 21 year old daughter recently moved to Toronto alone. Long story short, the staff at North York took incredible care of her, she called to tell me everyone from security to the doctors, nurses everyone, was caring and helpful. They immediately medicated her and 10 hours later she is on the mend. Thank you all so very much.
… Literally do not understand why this hospital has hired teenagers to be there screeners. They barely ask you the screening questions properly and let you go in before you are even done answering. Makes 100% sense why there are outbreaks in this hospital. Hire actual professionals who care about screening properly not children staring at their phones.
The X-ray emergency room of this hospital is very disorganized. As a leading hopstial in Toronto, it really needs more staff to get the waiting organized and more efficient.
I am so grateful I went to this hospital because of the friendly and compassionate environment. From the moment I came in the emergency lobby until I went out, everyone is really nice. I give big credits and thumbs up to Dr. Rakesh Kumar(he is so calm, very nice and informative), Shane(the one who takes X-rays is so nice)and nurse Jenna(so pretty and very nice person too). :) Please keep safe everyone! Thank you for wonderful service you give to everyone!
Dr. Pairaudeau (OB) and all operation room team were just simply AMAZING! They all were extremely professional, eperienced ,fast and friendly. Dr. Pairaudeau deserves 10 stars, not 5. I would highly recommend Dr. Pairaudeau! HOWEVER, just a couple of nurses were doing a good job. Even the private room was so dirty and dusty, especially under and around the baby basinet (which supposed to be extremely clean & sanitized) was a thick layer of dust! Garbage bins had no lids and rooms were not cleaned on a regular basis. My shoes got LOST during my 2 days stay there and hospital staff didn’t care ! It shows there is a serious safety issue in the hospital which needs to be paid attention immidiately! NYG hospital not recommended at all.
My dad died here. Staff never cared about my father's health, but there were a few kind and caring nurses and workers like Elaine on 8 West. Would give it 0 stars if I could. Never go here unless you want your life to end.
By far the best hospital. Never had such a quick and effective ER visit with such qualified, kind, caring doctors and nurses. Nurses were quick to manage my pain and kept me calm throughout entire incident and continued to check in on me even while in the waiting room. The doctors They genuinely concerned for my health, pain management and did not jump into unnecessary conclusions. So impressed by this hospital.
Thank you is not enough with the care my mom received at N.Y.G.H. from Dr.Stotland and Dr. Towns and others on Dr. Stotland's team. I have no words to express my excitement after the care my mom received at this hospital, all I can say "JOB WELL DONE " because of this team my mom can enjoy her golden years for a long time. THANK YOU TO DR.STOTLAND DR.TOWNS AND THE REST OF THE TEAM AND NURSES WOW GUY'S I CANT EXPRESS MY FEELINGS ENOUGH.
Great doctors and nurses. This hospital is very clean and staff are all friendly and helpful I've been a patient I energy a few times and an inpatient as well as for diagnostic procedures. I have always felt that I was well to taken care of.
Absolutely terrible. Brought my fiancé here with concussion and they made him wait nearly 6 HOURS. He could’ve gotten severe brain damage and memory loss and they completely disregarded the small time frame that is tied to a head injury of such. waste of time. Go to mackenzie general.
They released my family last week without checking carefully. He came home with much worse symptoms before going into this hospital. We went to another hospital only to find out that he has cancer. He doesn’t speak English well but this hospital has no interest in helping or support those who has language barrier, gave us a hard time with being able to stay. Worst and unprofessional health care institution. What a shame.
Ranked as #2 hospital in Canada (Newsfeed). My family and I trust this hospital very much. I was lucky enough to work with the Biomedical Engineering Team for my placement and it is definitely worth it! NYGH is ranked as #1 academic hospital.
Waste of time when appointments are given. You might as well treat it like a walk in clinic. We set an ultrasound appointment for a specific time just to avoid the 4 hour wait, and guess what? We were told that we still have to wait in line. So the appointment didn't mean anything.
It is very hard for me to believe that there are some people who could have given this hospital just one star. I had a great experience at the hospital. I had a boxers fracture and the doctors and staff were so hospitable towards me, they gave me the right advice and also had a great sense of humour. All in all just an amazing experience for me
Went to the ER with girlfriend's mother and the waiting time was expected, probably 3-4 hours before we saw someone. Then however we saw just how focused everyone was more focused on paperwork than actual patient care. The left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. It was unorganized. The doctor had sub-par leadership qualities as she did not delegate tasks to the rest of the staff in a clear cut and timely manner. After girlfriend's mother had cast put on it took over an hour just to get the plaster cleaned off the fingertips and I had to remind the doctor to remind the nurse of this after the hour. THEN the nurse did not even know how to place a sling on the patient. I had to complain before things were handled appropriately. Very unorganized and unprofessional.
Thank you to all the medical staff at NYG last night. We landed in at 3am very confused and half asleep and were quickly guided through the necessary procedures. Everyone was professional and kind and had us out and home in less than 2 hours including 26 stiches and a CT scan. Sean who gave the CT Scan had a wonderful sense of humour. Your efforts were Much Appreciated!
This is my first time coming to this hospital and I can honestly say that the only reason why I'm giving this hospital a 1 star rating is because it won't allow me to post this post otherwise. If it was up to me, I wouldn't even rate them because they are beneath the rating system. The doctors and nurses here in the emergency room are extremely slow, super impatient with their patients, and rude. They are not compassionate about their patients what so ever. I would never come back here.
I had a day surgery there and can’t tell more about the amazing staff and doctors. They made me feel so comfortable and admin staff are very well organized. Super clean hospital.
They released my cousin on Monday and I spent two days with her before learning that there was a Covid outbreak in that department. While my cousin had tested negative, it wasn't clear if that was 1 or 2 days before her release. While I took necessary precautions when spending time with my cousin I could have made different choices to protect myself. I am astounded that I wasn't informed of the outbreak. there is nothing acceptable about this.
I was there this morning Breast Diagnostic imaging clinic the staff there were all so very helpful the technicion told me what she was going to do. The volunteer Sheila was very helpful. I highly recomend this clinic they made me feel very comfortable.Everyone was very nice.
Horrible experience. The emergency wait time was brutal, over two hours just to be asked what’s wrong then wait another two hours. There were so many people in severe pain (people with IVs, people with broken bones, some bleeding), and the staff couldn’t care less. And when you ask the staff how much longer the wait is they are so rude and aggressive! I understand their jobs are hard enough but they shouldn’t have such a bad attitude towards people who are ill. They need efficiency and quick turnaround. Not a good hospital.
I was hesitant about coming to this hospital since I read and heard some horror stories happening in ER. However, my experience was more than pleasant. A nurse signed us in as soon as we arrive, and in less than 40 mins my boyfriend was getting the necessary tests done. Also, Dr. Jean Pierre was very helpful, he is a great doctor that really cares about his patients. Overall great management.
On sunday Aug 9th at 3.10pm had a C.T scan appointment. Between 3.30pm and 4pm l expérience a incident at C.T scan main desk. Unavoidable circumstance happened l sneeze in my mask. I had some dropping in the mask. I requested the lady at the counter if she can give me a new mask which were sitting near her. She refused. I told her l will dispose off the mask in the washroom garbage. She said you cannot leave the hospital without the mask. A girl visiter kindly offered me a new mask from her hand bag. This dropping could have fell on the floor. I guess she didn't use her common sense
I m first time bring my father here and ask them to adjust the bed or teach me the Ben head down and up. Waiting for 30 minutes no one help this is really bad people and service.l don't want to give any star no star any for this hospital.
I had my first baby delivered in North York General Hospital and the staff there was more than amazing! The nurses were really very understanding, very compassionate and very helpful. Very clean rooms and the delivery went as smooth as it can be
Could have been rated as “Zero” star. As the emergency service is so delayed. They don’t understand and distinguish between real emergencies and normal illness. People with normal fever are given preference than in real need. Staff is so rude and just giving false excuses. Please refrain coming in emergencies.
I went twice with my 6 year old boy. The wait time is reasonable. The staff, nurses & doctors are very friendly. It's a well maintained hospital.
I had attended North York General Hospital emergency department on Aug 3, 2019 relating to lower spine, seen Dr Jin Eddy Yong Hyun, he had assessed me, the doctor refused to provide his findings, on record. I had brought my concerns to Cynthia Bailey from the patient experience department, let me by saying the hospital covered it up and stated the above physician followed protocol. I seen my family doctor in the coming days, had referred me to East General Hospital for MRI to lower Spine, the finding was lower spine herniated disc was out of place, I am now receiving proper treatment to recover. The Hospital is embarrassment of the health care industry, with evil intentions that hasn't been truthful. It is called (monkey, donkey, pumping the elephant - Vice versa)
A wonderful place to be taken care of. The food is actually delicious and the staff are friendly and anxious to help. Only complaint ..... tv service is too expensive and half the channels freeze and can't be watched. The person in charge of the tv aspect needs to find another provider or get these people to shape up. $15 (plus tax) per day for a service that doesn't work right????? Other than that, five stars for everyone!!
I’m only writing this review in regards to an employee of the hospital who was working the MRI 2 scanning section of the hospital on Tuesday January 8 2019 and 1am. He was Russian or Eastern European. I was with my girlfriend as she was getting an MRI done and from the minute we walked in he was so rude and disrespectful. I actually had to walk away because I couldn’t imagine how many young people would love to have his job yet he is sitting there having no respect and it’s just something I’m not use to seeing living in the Hamilton area. I’m a very religious man and I would not write on here like this if I felt it was just a bad moment for him or something. I truly felt he acts like that often and I would hope the hospital does something about this. If they would like they could email me and I would be happy to assist them with this incident. Thank you.
Terrible experience. Dr.Russell Tanzer didn't even help me while I was struggling with bad pain. He came and took me into a room and while I waited for about 30 minutes, he assisted all the other patients. When he came in the room he was really rude and kept asking me why I didn't go to the hospital in my location. I walked out from North York General without receiving any service.
I had my appendix surgery at the hospital with dr. Down , very kind staff and amazing experience with dr.Down , i love this hospital just the only concern is wait time at emergency can improve otherwise everything is perfect and all the staff from emergency to surgery were so kind and professional, one of the best hospitals in town.
This is a World Class institution.I came into Emergency in this hospital and was diagnosed with Cancer. I received excellent care from the Doctors and Nurses in this Hospital. They saved my life. I would unconditionally recommend NY Gen to anyone who needs the very best medical care. THANK YOU ALL!!!
In any other industry, when you don't respect appointment times and make clients wait hours+, clients will choose alternatives. The poor service here validates the idea that socialised healthcare doesn't work
I came in today to have my calf looked at..it was very fast to see a doctor but now I've been waiting 2 in a half hours just to get an ultrasound..I understand emergency come first but this is ridiculous I can't barely walk and in pain and they won't do anything...Will never come back here again!! Would of been In and out if I went to Scarborough gen.
Great experience overall. Reason for Visit to extract tiny broken glass from foot. I’m Gonna make it brief and short about my process and observation! Checked in at 11.42 young nurse very energetic and serious and yet smiled when I was smiling. Processed 2nd registration for which line to go and went right to green zone and dropped off my chart. 6 patients ahead of me and all went after 30mins and I just went to check if I needed to anything extra and was told my chart was missing but they were extremely caring and actually invited me to one the patients bed to see the doctor. Doctor sommers was extremely pleasant and took care of the business and finished by 1.52pm. The only thing with hospitals is that parking kind of expensive but you cannot have everything for free right?!! Bottom line stay positive and little smile goes along way in a very high stress environment. Even on my last emergency visit where I had to get 10 stitches I had a great experience. Thanks for all the great staff of north York general! My best wishes and speedy recovery to anyone visiting the hospital!
How is there no ultrasound machine available in the entire hospital for a pregnant woman who is having bleeding? The hospital told us to come back tomorrow. The hospital advised us that after 10pm, they turn off the machine. We arrived at the hospital around 9:30pm and waited 4 hours only to be told their machine is off and to come back at 9am. Ridiculous
The emergency wing is absolutely a disgrace to the Healthcare industry. It's extremely dirty, staff are unprofessional and don't know how to properly direct flow of traffic, and last the provide zero to no medical attention/help to your loved ones. During a pandemic I understand certain procedures and rules MUST be followed to the letter. However, a certain level of discretion should also apply to the rule. When the emergency doctor after 11+ hours gives a solution of someone in severe pain with physio therapy & advil that you can get over the counter without a prescription in order to not take any risk against against elderly patient they need to make an educated solution for. That in itself is abysmal. You should really start hiring people who are well suited for the positions they represent in the hospital versus how book smart they maybe on paper as they can't apply their knowledge accordingly to patience when they're right there infront of them. If you love the person you're seeking help for I advise against bringing them here and to any other hospital.
Absolutely incredible hospital. I was admitted for four weeks and every single staff member treated me with the upmost respect and care. From the cleaning staff to the surgeons every single person I interacted with was amazing. I am alive today because of the doctors, nurses, and surgeons at NYGH. best decision I ever made was choosing this hospital for my care. Forever grateful to all of you.
I’ve had 2 excellent experiences at this hospital. My mother had a surgery there last year and my mother in law had the same surgery last week. They both had tumors removed. The staff are very nice and helpful. The hospital has a great positive vibe. Nice clean rooms. They’re very quick and steady to assist patients with their needs and concerns. Thank you for your service.
More like an torture center. Went with my sick baby, waiting for 2hoirs with no news, ask ppl and they all left or told me to keep waiting. A sick baby isn't priority for them, this hospital should be better managed and with real professionals working with patients, not the careless kind of ppl they put in there.
I visited the NYGH hospital for a heart echo and had to go for registration.. this lady on the 6th floor was on a call with someone else, probably discussing the strike in her childs school. In between the conversation she asked for my health card and kept asking me questions.. everytime she asked me a question I wasn't sure if she was asking me or talking to someone else on the phone. And for something she asked me I wasn't sure and told her I need a minute.. she tells me I dnt have a minute and went back to her phone call.. she was outright rude!
I was in and out of the ER in less than an hour and a half. All of the staff were extremely professional and kind. It was by far the best ER experience I have ever had!
Horrible with staff and security is the worst they have no compaison for their patients or family members and the security likes.to Abuse there responsibility's I understand that they have a. Job to do but so do family members and to them is not important the doctor's and nurses are amazing in the hospital
What an absolute joke of a hospital, paid 22 dollars in parking, waited 2 hours and the doctor didnt even finish with me before going on to the next patient. Just stood there waiting and the concerned nurses ultimately told me I have …
Worst hospital ever. The staff is totally unprofessional and couldn’t care less.in emergency even at peak hours only 1 doctor is available to attend over 30 patients and the wait time for emergency is usually 4-5 hours so its better to go to some other hospital rather than torturing yourself by going here.
Worst Hopital . Especially emergency long waiting periods . You will need to suffer a lot before reaching your turn . Receptionist at emergency she is very rude I ever seen
Lucky to make it out alive. Went in for a simple surgery with a one night stay, was scheduled to leave the next morning. Ended up staying for a week because during surgery I got a bacterial infection. Ended up with two blood transfusions, and a visit from two doctors from the intensive care unit. The nurses were not helpful at all and post surgery denied I had an infection even though I was telling them I did. If you value your life go to another hospital.
Our son was born 7 weeks premature and remained in the NICU for about 4 weeks prior to bringing him home. NICU staff and doctors were very pleasant and helpful. We have had several Neonatal follow up appointments and had a amazing experience all around. Keep up the good work. Thank you for everything!
Very unorganized and unprofessional! I have been in this hospital many times before and always telling myself never going back again. Last week I went for my Covid vacation and it was horrible. I booked in advance and had to wait for almost 2 hours to get my vaccine. It was more like a joke. Only two nurses were working in that center and one was talking to each person for at least 10 minutes. People were all so fed up with this slow vaccination. They were leaving Without getting their shots. Is this for real?? Is this how you encourage people to get vaccinated? PLEASE DON'T GO TO THIS HOSPITAL FOR ANYTHING.
I am a visible minority, me and my wife went to North York General Hospital birth center this afternoon. long story short, we asked the doctor a question. The answer she gave to us is : I don't know, you tell me! and i asked: what does that mean? she said: i don't know. you tell me! Now i know the way they take care of you is by answer your question with: I don't know, you tell me !! Good job! NYG! I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE KIND HEARTED PEOPLE WHO DONATED THAT MUCH MONEY,BUILDING, EVEN ELEVATORS TO THIS PLACE, TO THIS PEOPLE!
Red room Emergency doctor and nurse give priority!!!!!!!’ to the hospital employee(or she a former employee ) Joking and have fun in the front …
The staff, Doctors, nurses of this hospital are sent from heaven. The care they provide is beyond what one can ask. I can’t start to tell which department is better than the other because the experience my mum and I had starting from the ER to specialists, was just beyond our expectations. In my old mum’s words “ These people make a sick person feel better immediately just by their genuine interest, care and concern. They have the ability and skills to give hope to anyone and everyone. I really love this hospital and if i had lots of money, i will for sure donate it to this hospital only!”. Trust me when I say NYGH is the best. Every each one of their staff member provide genuine empathy and respect to every patient they come across. NYGH, not today but one day soon for sure i will want to donate to help you in your fight to get us sick people well. Thank you to every each one of you that i came across so far. You were GOD sent. Thank you, Thank you and Thank you ????. In Comparison to Scarb Gen Hospital at Lawrence/McCowan, you are 11 out of 10 and they are 2 out of 10!
In emergency, a mix of terrible communication skills from the staff and a disorganized room layout, this experience will destroy your peace of mind and your day while you are sick, or with a sick person. The staff in the waiting area range from disgruntled to down right hostile. A woman overseeing the waiting area will stare at you across the room with daggars unflinchingly after being politely asked for clarification and then be happy to whisper in security's ear about you to have you handled. Its a blatant misuse of status and authority due to an inferiority complex matched with a terrible attitude. She takes advantage of the hospital's zero tolerance rule to not keep people safe, but more to satisfy her need for the abuse of power. We were barked at from another nurse (I believe) to sanitize our hands as we were wearing gloves, when we simply would have been happy to do so if asked to do so politely and calmly (you know, like how you would treat a human). You will constantly be wondering "what am I supposed to do next?" as no one explains with any complete direction as you move from stage/zone to the next. It will frazzle you so unnecessarily. There is not enough room to physically distance during moderately busy times and the staff will force you to group together in the seating area. It took over 6 hours to complete our full process at the hospital. The actual nurses and doctors in the yellow zone are very good especially the nurses, but after 4+ hours in emergency it will take a huge toll on your mental and physical health dealing with the awful people peppered throughout emergency. I urge you to go to another hospital if you can. I only experience this kind of aggressive, negative prejudicial, treatment that will make you feel like a farm animal being wrangled and prodded at this hospital emergency center. If you have a choice, go anywhere else.
If I could give it less I would. The NICU is a real joke. The so called breastfeeding chair in each parent area is no more than a glorified beach chair that rocks. This in no way promotes infant health by breastfeeding or encourages skin to skin contact to help babies thrive. There is no privacy. Please don't transfer or agree to have your baby placed here in the NICU... go to Mount Sinai or Sick Kids and avoid this disaster of a unit.
I rather die then to go to their ER department ...you have to pass from one desk to another answering same covid screning questions, which will take 2 hours at least then while you still in pain it takes another 2 hours for the Dr to see you ... and their assestment "there is nothing we can do, go home" ... I dont think they have ever heard about Hippocratic Oath...
Very nice and friendly staff, I especially want to thank dr. Karabegovic for her professionalism and her politeness. Thank you so much
I wish i could give 0 star to this hospital, the emergency staffs are so rude and you have to wait at least 5 hour to just talk with the doctor, I visited there on Monday around 11 o’clock there was only one doctor and around 200 patients, we went home at 3 am without seeing the doctor because they told us we have to wait around 2 more hours!!!some of the patients were there for more than 10 hours!!! This is crazy!! They don’t know what is the meaning of EMERGENCY !!!!
Ive always been impressed with our experience in this hospital but I was shocked in my last visit. My wife and I went to the emergency due to a non-covid related issue. We were forced into a small overcrowded room called the yellow zone next to the entrance of the emergency. No social distancing and people coughing next to us. Nurses refused to let us sit in the next room(main entrance) where there was a lot of space to social distance. I was told, there is coughing everywhere by a nurse as an excuse to why I was forced to not social distance. Some patients weren’t wearing masks either. It’s mind blowing that this is happening in a hospital
Rudest nurses ever. They are full of attitude the minute you walk in. I don’t understand why they would treat a new patient so poorly just because a completely different patient may have upset them earlier. I am not that person who upset you so don’t take it out on me! And while patients are waiting I hear these 2 nurses whispering about taking sick days to go see a concert. Seriously? That’s where our money goes! To a system that allows people to take sick days and get paid for them while they’re not even sick.
My husband started to experience sickness that eventual had me bring him to the hospital. I was going to bring him to Scarborough Grace, but was told it was not a good hospital, but to take him to North York that it was the best...What a mistake! My husband who cannot speak very good English, or understand it, would make it difficult to get the information from him. I tried to inform them that I had to be the one to explain everything about his history, I had to be his voice. But it was more important for them to get me out of the building. He was assessed without my input and sent home. When I asked my husband what they did, or if they took a Covid test, he assumed they had. Once again he did not understand. One week later unable to eat and throwing up, being a diabetic this was a major issue. I mistakenly took him back to NYH and demanded they listen to me. I gave a full account of his history and at this point he can hardly walk. Once again they were more concerned about getting me out of the building, them listening to me tell them I am his voice and I need to be there to talk for him. Because he could hardly walk I asked if they could put him in a wheelchair, as they kept moving him from one window to another, one chair to another. Which they coldly stated "it is not that far". Which I replied, " well when he passes out on the floor, it is your fault!" NO compassion at all for his present situation, which you could clearly see, this cold and unfeeling nurse disgustingly remarked. "you can go now" Again, a few hours later he calls me and tells me to come and get him. I asked what did they do, what did they say? He did not know. Even on a good day he has a hard time understanding, how much more in his present condition. When I picked him up he was even weaker, with out any papers, directions, nothing. I asked the attendant bringing my husband to me," what did they do, what should I do? "...I was told to call in for the information. Which when I did, I was told I cannot get the info over the phone. I became undone. Having to go through the scenario of my husband condition, and informing them he had taken a turn for the worse. I was advised to bring him back. I could not take him at this point he was beyond walking and had to call an ambulance. Which through hysteria I informed the paramedics of the situation. I asked to be taken back to NYH because they had all the info already. I was delusional by then, thinking maybe now they will find out what is wrong and treat him. Thank God this wonderful Paramedic who tried to calm me down ( I wish I was sane enough to get his name) said to me that since I had gone through this nightmare, was not treated, or even informed of what was, or was not being done to my husband, told me there were taken him to Scarborough Grace... What Hospital?? the one I originally wanted too?? My husband was admitted into ICU where he now fighting for his life. From the moment he got there the calls from the nurses, the DR and especially Dr Goa, who is treating him now, was overwhelming. They in detailed sought every bit of history and facts about my husband. And he is now receiving the best possible care. Shame on you NYH.. My husband could have avoided all the hell we are going through now, if you had listen to what his voice (WIFE) was trying to tell you. That sending him home in that condition was unacceptable. If anything happens to him, it is on your watch!!!
Horrible experience in an outpatient clinic with close family. Clinic run like a factory. Felt treated worse than as if just a number, felt treated like a dog. Very, very insensitive care for a VERY difficult situation. It gets worse -- almost died from complication, called 911 and taken to ER where doc identified this near tragedy as result from inappropriate treatment received in this outpatient clinic. Ask your doctor to refer you somewhere else, it' s your right.
North York General saved my wife's life but their emergency department has really turned awful since they started renovations. We've been there a few times and there was nobody around to talk to for help. We waited over 30 minutes last time until someone came to the desk and then found out there was a huge lineup in front of us. Very scary. Someone should be there evaluating everyone as they walk in.
It took a few hours to be seen in emerg, only because the hospital was overwhelmed, which is a fact of life in Toronto. After being seen and admitted, you realize how great the staff are. Every single person I dealt with was friendly, efficient and would help you any way possible. State of the art equipment if needed. Best hospital in Toronto.
Very bad emergency department. I am a doctor back home and I took my 86 years old mother for shortness of breath( cardiac complain ) and I wait for 4 hours in the registration department, after that they gave us a room and more than one hour nobody serve her.We have to leave without getting any service .The staff didn't care about patients , how an old lady could wait for 5 hours to get help in a hospital????
well I went into the emergency department several weeks ago and they did a great job keeping me alive. Even though, I had told them not to go to any extraordinary measures. I'm a quadriplegic and my experience after that emergency is less than complementary. They installed a pacemaker without my knowledge or consent. No one ever told me what a pacemaker was or how it would benefit me. No one discussed if it would limit my independence. I basically had no choice now to get a follow-up appointment is basically impossible unless I wait six weeks even though my cardiologist had told me he wanted to see me in one or two weeks when I left the hospital. It's frustrating as I got very little information from doctors and even the discharge statement was very vague. Although it did state something about having an aneurysm in my abdomen which is concerning to me since I have two uncles that passed away with stomach cancer. Today I left what must be at least my fifth phone call to the cardiologist office hoping that someone will return a call. Keep you alive is one thing but there's gotta be better follow-up or better way so consumers don't become frustrated and concerned with their health.
Words alone can't describe how exceptionally professional and extraordinary the people who work here are in Nygh. Good hearted people, angels on earth doing their best work for their patients. Proud that I've met the people I've met in this hospital. Thank you <3
Emergemcy is the worst. I had surgery in NYGH on Friday and after that I had lots of infection, bleeding and pain. I came to emergency for many times after surgery for two days, but non of specialists wanted to visit my case and they just passed my case to one another. I feel like there is no responsibility in emergency to take care of patients and my case is just passed through nobody. I still have too much pain after three days of surgery. If your case is emergency, this place would not be helpful!
We took our newborn baby to this emergency. It took us eight hours to get to the paediatric floor. We understood they were busy, but seriously? Eight hours of waiting? Just ridiculous. And the doctors were nice and thorough. But the nurses there? Inpatient and had very bad attitude. They got provoked by a simple questions. They were yelling at us or basically everyone. We knew how frustrated to deal with multiple patients everyday. As a peer of health professional, i was shame on them. I deeply doubt is this what you have learned from your school training. As a health care provider, shouldn't we being considerate and professional all the time? Please don't just roll over your eyes and yell at some helpless paitients or their parents. Show some respect.
Oh my God. I went to visit a friend in hospital. I couldn't believe it the hallway mostly look like a storage or restaurant kitchen, stuff every where. No ventilation, it was warm and smell was bad. Welcome to first world health care.l went to west wing rooms. But MRI department was awesome. Clean and nice. Last week my daughter was in emergancy for the appendix pain. whole surgery was wonderful with very nice and caring people in surgery and emergancy and childeren and youth deportment. thank you all .
Here is a tip: before you walk into the hospital, you have to pass what is called "Physician's parking". Look at the cars there first before entering the hospital. Those cars serve as a great symbol of what this hospital is all about: greed and profit maximization for the docs/staff. If you don't have a lawyer family-member, then you are quite literally screwed. This is the worst hospital I've ever been to, everything is in disarray, nobody knows what they are doing, the equipment that matters aren't available or are old/outdated. The hospital is so outrageously careless that you need a lawyer just to get them to do their own job... good luck.
I've lived having NYGH in my immediate vicinity for my 30 years in life and I'll start by saying without the amazing staff I wouldn't be here. I've been treated from broken fingers to a serious case of E.coli food poisoning. They saved my best friend when he went into pancreatic shock and helped a good girlfriend of mine with severe anxiety. As well as a couple of other visits.. the staff has always done their best and as I have just come home from there I had another good experience when I wasn't feeling to well. Thank you to all the hard working staff. Please keep up the great work. Alex.m
Went to the ER which is busy and inherently chaotic. Staff were all so kind and helpful. Really appreciate it, especially given the circumstances.
The staff know their jobs and are friendly. Admin is good at keeping appointments on time. Multiple coffee shops is handy. Parking lot not too hard to figure out.
Recently visited on Sunday (Mother's Day) and service was exceptionally fast. (Been here before years ago for a stomach flu and had a terrible experience). This time, I arrived with packed bags thinking I'd be there for over 6 hours, but no! Surprisingly, I was there for less than an hr! I checked in, was called to an area where a woman took my blood pressure. Then was asked to check in with my health card. During this time, the receptionist gave me my chart and advised to follow these stickers on the floor that lead to another waiting area. Not less than 10 minutes I was called into the ER. I met with Dr. Wong and a female Dr. They provided their expertise immediately. Thank you to those Drs!!
0 star wars not available. It's truly a shame. Where is my fkn tax money going? To these ridiculous services? Been at the xray waiting for the past 3.5 hours. It's been so fkn bad that one of the doctors even complained why it's taking these lazy mules yo move their asses and actually work rather than stand around for hours at a time talking and laughing and making fun of people who are upset with the shot service they're providing. I always say doctors deserve the most respect but this fkn service is honestly the kind of service you'd get in a 3rd world country. Where the fk is my tax dollars going????
The 'mother & baby' unit is great, the staff is outstanding & very supportive. Super & very hard working people. I would grade this hospital ( specially this unit) 10/10. My past experience was at NHS, UK, which was disastrous.
I was treated for gross hematuria, and required CBI complete bladder irrigation. I arrived around 3:00 a.m., and was in the emergency room for CBI treatment at 4:00 a.m. The treatment was done very professionally with very courteous staff. Moved to semi-private room the next day and was being treated with great medical care. Given CT Scan the following day and TURP performed the next day by Dr. Buckley, an extremely competent surgeon who has excellent bedside manner. Every single staff in the OR and post OR ward were very competent and friendly. To top it all, I was blessed to have received The Holy Eucharist twice during my 5-day there. I felt extremely blessed to be treated at NYGH. One suggestion to NYGH: Upon discharge, it would be great if a document outlining what the patient is expected to encounter in a 4-week timeline will greatly remove any anxiety a patient may have during the recovery period.
I went to the emergency at North York general hospital 2 months ago, they gave me some hydro morphine and told me to go home and rest. 2 hours later I went to Sunnybrook hospital emergency room, they sent me for emergency surgery right away! Unfortunately it makes a huge difference which hospital you go to when you’re in serious medical emergency! I’m sorry to say that but it does make a huge difference. Everyone I know that has been to North York hospital has had the same type of experience. Something wrong here!
I have been to 3 different hospitals since Christmas eve. This was my first time going to NYGH .. I was treated by Dr. Karabegvoic (a female Dr) in ER and a nurse named Susan that took blood and checked my blood pressure. Upon arrival(and the past 5 weeks) I was weak, drained, nauseous and throwing up.. My family dr, told me there were no "treatments" or solutions to help what i was feeling. Dr. Karabegvoic was so attentive. She was so confident that I'd feel better before leaving and made sure that I would afterwards. She is an angel. Despite how busy she was, I watched her take care of a few different patients, so calm and caring. I'm so happy that my home nurse recommended that I come to NYGH. Thank you Dr. Karabegvoic for going above and beyond for me. Thank you Susan for being supportive.
Nurses are lazy and think patients owed them ! The doctor l dealt with needed a doctor himself ! Horrible hospital !
This hospital is fast but is horrible terrible this is the second, there is a docter here tonight that don’t care about how you feel and without a test is a testing tha you might be ok even though you are sick! In conclusion go anywhere els but here
The worst medical staff!!
This hospital was the place of my birth. Great location, friendly staff members, and great service. Can't believe it's rated so low.
If you value your life or your loved ones DO NOT GO HERE. The worst staff and doctors I have ever seen in my life. My mother had a stroke and it took them 4 hours to diagnose what was wrong with her. She had to stay in care for over a month and during that time she only got worse. I tried explaining to the "doctors" that there's something seriously wrong with her but I was ignored several times and got told "the doctors know better". Turned out I was right all along and she had had a second stroke in their care. My mother had to return to emergency after being shifted to rehab. Honestly hospitals in third world countries are better than NYGH.
Linda one of the worst nurse there. so rude and unprofessional. I'll never go there again. i dont know who gave her medical certificate.
It was a worse ever experience that i had.i was admitted to MRI ,after 10 minutes received and IV to be ready for MRI.i asked the person who was in charged about the process and he said it will take 35 minutes.i was shown to sit in another room waited for 1.5 hr and nothing happened ,.after the guy came back i asked what happened and he said there is another urgent matter and i was so upset and took the iv from my vein and came out to front counter,.four persons sitting there doing nothing and at last nobody cared that i was bleeding and why such things happened.they cheated and sent few other people instead of me.i called later to the patient office care and they said will persue the matter.what is the use after two month in line waiting for the turn and then bunch of iiresponsible staff ruin everything,. should congratulate the person in mangement!!!!!!!!! really non efficient and lack of management is obvious. This hospital is the worst ever!!!!!!!
i was born here. it was epic being in funni breathing vent machine
Mixed reviews for us, some ppl are great, some ppl don't care and slack Parking was 22/day Free wifi
Came here after a terrible experience at Oshawa Lakeridge hospital. Nurses were generally nice, but more importantly, we were seen and evaluated within 30 minutes. We had a great experience here. Over the last few years, their level of hospitality has been improving dramatically.
Worst hospital I've ever seen. No any stuff in emergency reception for 20 minutes. No one don’t care about nothing. Just money laundromat. Poor people.
Your visitor policy during COVID-19 does not consider patients that require mental health supports. I was allowed to support my partner two days ago at his follow-up appointment, and told today that I’m not allowed into the hospital, unless I’m supporting my partner for mobility or language reasons. I left and learned online that visitors can be allowed at the specific clinic/department’s discretion. However, this was not communicated to us. There was a lack of tact/emotional intelligence from the information desk staff who communicated this to us. What a disappointing experience.
So for the third time in 12 months (twice with dad and once with mom), I am so impressed with this hospital. I have lives in Bayview Village and Willowdale for 45 years and this hospital has completely changed for the better. Best treatment by nurses on all shifts for a week. We’re still here but 8SE nurses, RPN’s, doctors, cleaning staff, transport staff, Meal staff etc are all A+ graded. Nice, gentle, caring and patient. Knowledgeable and patient-centred. There will be no hesitation in donating to this hospital. They’ve earned my respect. Clearly Administration from the top has “hired in their own image”. Bravo!
Went to see Dr Yasser ElSheik in the plastics for second opinion on my tendon injury and I am so thankful that I decided to do so. Had me in the following day to repair my flexer tendon in my thumb. He thoroughly explained everything to me, risks etc. He made me feel very comfortable and reassured knowing he truly cared to get this fixed, I'll admit I was nervous as I'm in the carpentry trade but with his professionalism and care, i was very confident going into the surgery. The entire staff from Dr El Sheik, Hollie and Darryl the anesthesiologists. The surgery went better than expected and am on my road to recovery!! Can't believe how friendly and great this hospital is! I've been to many but not as good as here.
thank you again to DR E. JIN and his ER team. our loved one was in enormous of pain and within 30 mins we were taken care of and out of the hospital in less than 3 hours! I cannot thank you all enough.
Wait times are ridiculous... 5 hours and still haven't seen a doctor. Yet you see the nurses chatting, laughing and having fun for 30 mins at a time. Not enough seating for patients let alone beds. Staff don't acknowledge you sitting there. Asked the nurse and was told they didn't know where the doctors were and how long the wait.
Wait time was crazy horrible in the emergency room. Only 3 people (counting my boyfriend and myself as one) at first so it clearly was not busy. Two people came after us and got in before we did. I over heard what their issue was and one lady had some pain I think in her legs and the man was dehydrated. My boyfriend came in bloody and swollen with a head injury. Not one nurse gave him any attention. I had to go to them just to do the check in because they skipped us. I asked if they could give him an IV to hydrate him ( he hadn't drank in a while plus his mouth was so swollen and he was drinking that night) and she said no. The idea came to me when she offered the other guy it. Three hours later after he already collapsed a new nurse gave him the IV.... We got there at 3am and didn't leave till 1030 am. Doctors and nurses were in all just cold and I'm not just talking about our nurse. we had to stay just to make sure he was okay and didn't have a concussion.
Dr. Bedford in genetics was amazing. Very thorough and so nuanced with her diagnosis and treatment. Thank you! She is great with kids!
I have spent 3 nights at North York General Hospital after bilateral total hip replacement surgery. Many thanks to my nurses Dona, Christina and Lovell for being helpful and supportive during this difficult time!
I want to express much appreciation for the excellent and compassionate care I received yesterday in the Emergency Department by the orthopaedic surgeon and the orthopaedic technician for my fractured wrist. The nurse in reception and the X-ray technicians were also very understanding and rapidly did their work. I received details for my cast care and overall post fracture care and written information for my Fracture Clinic follow up. My time in the Emergency Department was only an hour and twenty minutes. I would definitely recommend the care of North York General Hospital based on my experience. Thank you very much.
My wife gave birth at NYGH, the care provided by each and every member of the Labor and Birthing suites was exceptional. The Gynic, resident, whole team of nurses were very professional and extremely helpful.
I've never had an issue with this hospital. Best service and fast. Very professional and courteous. This morning I came in to check my sprained wrist. Got checked in promptly and had X-ray's taken immediately. Thankfully no fracture or breaks. I was in and out within an hour. Mind you I went early in the morning around 8am. If you go during peak times, you can't blame staff for long wait times. I give this hospital A++++ Top 3 hospitals in Toronto. Toronto western, Mount Sinai, North York general
No medical attention at all. The doctor was very rude , he lost his humanity already .
North York General Hospital is incredibly efficient and well organized. The medical professionals and staff are kind, polite, fast, professional, and thorough. I really appreciated it! Great job North York General!
The emergency room staff were amazingly kind and so compassionate. Fredy was very attentive! The fifth floor staff which provide acute care to the elderly were thoughtful, professional and very helpful. Sophia was a truly exceptional nurse who was kind and efficient, really first rate.
Avoid this hospital, if you're coming for ER.
I cannot believe how wonderful the nurses and doctors were for us at this hospital. From having bad experiences at other hospitals it was quite shocking to see that there is still compassion and concern available in a hospital. I want to thank the emergency room personnel as well as the nurses and doctors on the obstetric floor. You went beyond what I had expected in a hospital. Thank you
Literally one of the worst places I’ve ever been . The staff is rude and unhelpful except maybe one doctor I spoke to . They couldn’t even diagnose me properly but I think I had the stomach flu . Regardless . If you can avoid this place , please do .
The staff and doctors are friendly. Meals are great 100%!!! The hospital in general is disable friendly and relatively clean. The only issue I have with this hospital is the parking fee. It is very expensive as if you are parking in downtown Toronto. I feel like I was robbed. :(
I went to North York General Hospital with a chief complaint of dizziness and weakness. The examiner identified himself as a medical student. The student performed the history and physical exam without supervision. The attending physician came in and after receiving a brief report from the student. His overview was less than one minute. I was subsequently offered a dermatology referral since he felt 'there is not much we will get accomplished 5pm on a Sunday' (presumably near the end of his shift). Not impressed with the experience. My symptoms proceeded to get much worse over the next few weeks. Never did isolate the cause. I felt it was irresponsible not to do (at minimum) an Electrocardiogram, urine and a set of cultures with routine blood work. He struck me as overconfident and took (what I feel was) an unnecessary risk with my well being. I did not appreciate it. I will likely not return to North York General; as I believe the care I received was sub-standard.
Bad experience at MRI jamaican dude has no sympathy and lacks customer service skills. Didnt even ask how I feel and didnt provide any solutions. MRI experience is already bad enough with all the beeping sound and claustrophobic and neck cramping you cant move you feel like you inside a small box or coffin..they didnt even have bigger bore mri machine or headphones to provide ear protection.
Great very busy but 2 hours wait
Today me and my mom visited the emergency department of the hospital and the ER Doctor (Dr.Marc Ryan Lipkus) was amazing and very helpful. He cared so much about the patients and was working very hard. We visited this ER multiple times and also the ER of multiple other hospitals in the GTA but I have never had a doctor this helpful and respected.
Blantant racism from both doctors and nurses, unable to contact doctor for follow up. To scared to go to Emerg.
My husband is in the hospital this whole week for a procedure. I learnt that the procedure was not done after one whole day of waiting. The biggest problem I find with this hospital is the Ward, the Surgery and the Admission are all working in silo and disconnected. For example, Admission does not know if beds are available and the Ward does not know what is being done to the patient in the Surgery. I am a bit surprised the Nurse was not able to tell from reading the charts. Very frustrating experience for me.

An ER doctor helped me see the pattern of my chronic illness for the first time in 25 years.
It's just amazing how people in this hospital tell you you're wasting their time when you're trying to locate a patient, and after telling them that they don't need to be rude they just repeat that i'm wasting their time. I hope they won't be in my position.
I lives nearby, so whenever I need to go to emergency, this is the closest place. I wish I had other places to go when I had a sudden difficulty to breathe. Nurses, doctors, even front desk workers are rude and have zero empathy on patients. If you have a question about their treatment, you will be humiliated and yelled in front of other patients. You cannot have any questions about the medication or treatment they give you. Once you make them feel upset, intentional painful and rough medical treatments will be followed-for example, you will experience a massive pain when you have an injection. You should obey whatever treatment here without any questioning.
I had an MRI appointment last night after a few months of waiting at 9 pm,when I got there without a convincing explanation they changed my time to an hour and a half later! The dr of MRI treated me very badly and even when she had to guide me on how to lie on the bed my shoulder bones hit the iron hard!!!and the assistant of the who had com to fill out the form removed the headphones on my ear with an abnormal behavior when I was not yet completely out of the machine!! I did not object to the strange behavior and pain in my shoulders because the behavior of all of them was very far from polite and I am very sorry for this experience I went to diagnose another pain and they added another pain to me!!!!!!!!
In separation of medical attention received from the condition and hygienic upkeep of facilities- can you believe this is in a CANADIAN HOSPITAL?? Elevated patient ratios shouldn't have a bearing on cleanness (and growing mold) in the emergency room, with communicable diseases going around.
I have had multiple surgeries at North York general and I have been very pleased with my experiences. Most recently, I had day surgery with Dr Peskun for my right knee. All the staff I met with were kind and attentive. Everyone was knowledgeable and patient -the admin staff, nurses, team attendants, anesthesiologist and the surgeon. The team attendant wheeled my out to my car and made sure that I had the help I needed, which I greatly appreciated. My knee is healing well and my stitches are straight and everything looks great. Dr Peskun is an excellent surgeon and I could not be more impressed with the whole experience.
ER physician doesn't listen to the problem reported and quick to dismiss vaccine problem. While waiting for ultrasound there was a Filipino nurse waiting in the area that was eating candy and throwing her wrappers on the floor and kicking them away. What a low class dirty health care worker.
Do NOT take the nasal swab test. I have had massive headaches, runny nose and nasal drip for months. Nurse was forceful and abrupt. After I took it, the doctor and nurse couldn't answer any questions about where its manufactured or what company even makes it. I went against my own instinct and trusted the professionals now I wish I never took it. Look up the most recent studies on false positives and complications from the invasive nasal swab. More consultation is needed beforehand about the risks associated with this test. Staff need to be better trained with administering the tests and more informed to make sure they can give patients all the info needed to make informed decisions about their health.
really bad experience.the hospital didn’t receive the money with insurance company and contacted me for the money many years later. Better for you to choose another hospital. Poor organized
Irresponsible and rude staff. I got my temperature 39 degree at home, while in the nurse assessment she told me it is 36.8, you have nothing wrong. Then I go to the walk-in clinic. They got my temperature 38.8. You know what the hospital kills people.
Much better service and tech than any hospital Ive been to in Canada. Shout out to the nurse who helped me through drawing blood. I normally get cold sweats and faint and she was very hospitable and kind and that really goes a long way with people. Got through it with no issues. Thanks!
my mom break her arm last Saturday, went to NYGH ER, spent 3hrs registration, X-ray and fix, doctors are professional, X-ray nice and fast, i recommend this hospital, two thumb up!
The service at this hospital is very slow. The nurses takes for ever to get to patients concern. I was looking for my mother over 8 hours and no one seem to know where she was. She was at a different hospital getting a procedure done and no one knew of her there (Humber river hospital) This is sad to know a hospital this big is so disorganized
Very impressed during my ER and emergency surgery care last year. The triage nurse was kind yet efficient. She assessed me and since I had symptoms of a potentially life-threatening illness, I was seen, diagnosed and admitted promptly. Very thankful to all of the ER staff, nurses, and surgery team who treated me. North York General is an excellent hospital with very caring and highly competent staff.
I have Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis, also I have spinal stenosis. I entered the emergency room unable to walk in absolute pain (bordering delusional). The emergency staff from reception to the numerous doctors needed to treat were absolutely amazing!! The nursing staff of the 8th floor were very kind and professional, aware of all follow-ups scheduled. The neurological team of doctors arrived early morning fully informed, very thorough and extremely prepared with information of what I need to do once released. My experience in North York General hospital was beyond words... Heaven sent. Thank you to all.
WORST HOSPITAL EVER! if youre ever having your baby there DONT COME HERE! unless you want to be trained on, and have to deal with so much negligence! please new parents! DO NOT COME HERE it is worst rated hospital for a reason! if i could put zero stars i would save yourself the trauma! they do not care about you, just another body.
Very kind and helpful staff,,and specially to my surgeon thank you so much for the successful operation god bless always
Had the worst experience over there. Nurse was very rude and prejudiced. Even at the entrance with the firat nurse, they were actually laughing at my problem. Would never go there again or recommend to anyone at all. Definitely go somewhere else.
Worst hospital ever. AND THEY MAKE YOU PAY 22$ FOR PARKING DURING A PANDEMIC.
Sent me a bill for $1500 for a covid test I was asked to go get by Toronto Public health. Sent me to collections over the $1500. Even tho I thought the province said tests where free. Continue to auto dial me demanding payment of $1500. Spoke to accounting. Told me it was my problem and they will not discuss it. Needed to get a test a few weeks ago after someone else tested positive. No chance in hell of me getting tested while North York General continues demanding payment for a previous test.
I have been to ER at NYGH twice: once with a toddler needing stitches to her chin and once with a heart concern for myself at two different times of year. Both times the check-in and wait time was reasonable. I found all staff to be polite and efficient. The facility itself is older but that is the least of my concerns if care provided is up to the standard and it was!
I attended the emergency Room at this hospital on a Sunday morning after complications from a kidney stone treatment. It was like a warehouse. No one was allowed a bed to lie in regardless of how much pain you were in. I was vomiting blood, didn’t seem to matter. They had 24 people in one room with almost half with I V’s hanging to them. The nurses were indifferent to if they ran out or not and the Dr was more interested in talking then working. I timed him talking 35 min to someone changing shift and they were laughing and joking as patients pilled up. It was a nightmare. Avoid at all costs.
Waiting three hours after a chest x-ray to speak with the same doctor who examined me put a great taste in my mouth tonight (for a total of 6 hours in the ER). I'd suggest another ER
Paragon security held me against my will after the psychiatrist couldn’t even write my name on the form properly. She asked me personal questions and I got detained for 72 hours in the psych ward from an incident back in Junior High more than 10 years ago.
I was visiting my aunt in Toronto and I had to go to the ER on February 7th at 2 PM and this is what the Doctor Told me; He first start by saying that he’s not gonna do any money with me because Quebec doesn’t pay the doctors in Ontario when we get to the hospital .That he probably receive 12$ from Quebec for that. So he told me that it’s gonna be quick with me cause he don’t want to spend a lot of time with French Canadiens .He started shaming Quebec . Saying That Trudeau is stupid and he’s from there. He says that “HIS” Canada doesn’t have Quebec in it.
Worst hospital ever. I and my wife had a few emergency situations and because we were living close to this hospital we went there. They are always short in staff, staffs won't treat you well. Waiting time is at least 4 hrs, based on my experience. Last time we waited about 3 hrs with burned hand till we decided to go to Sunnybrook hospital where my wife was treated in 30 min. My recommendation, never go there. Try other options.
I have done my MRI for lower back pain. they said after 7 days MRI and report will be available. then after 5 days they have called to my family doctor and said it will be available after 10 business day.(two weeks), I have too much pain in my lower back.
Please don't bring your loved one's here. My family friend's father is put in a coma for not wanting to go to sleep, he was up talking to his son every night, he's been in medically assisted coma for 2 weeks now without valid reason, or explanation, the family is confused. This same persons wife was brought in to the hospital a few days later and she also did not want to sleep, she walked around went to the cafe and bought coffee, she was also put in a medically assisted coma, she passed away Dec 29th 2021 in the afternoon.
Excellent hospital. Hospitals such as Scarborough centenary and Mackenzie health should look to North York general hospital as an excellent example of how to treat patients. From the beginning of my experience to the end, I saw kind smiling faces. At the the other 2 hospitals I experienced rudeness and uncaring attitudes for the most part.
Here for ultrasound and labor during covid. All the staffs are professional and nice. The meals are not really flavorful but healthy.
People will leave negative feedback if their experience was poor, but leave none if positive. What a lot of people leaving here don't understand or notice is the way they treat the nurses. My girlfriend was admitted to the ICU and was provided the necessary healthcare. Although I will admit some nurses came off rude at first, we must be able to comprehend that sometimes they must behave that way not to offend you, but to ensure they themselves are not emotionally involved as it may lead to poor decision making. Nurses being objective and forward does not equate to them being rude. They gain nothing from the suffering of your loved ones and it certainly does not make their job easier when families ridicule them. If you want some extra attention, try being a little more courteous and be personable to the nurses. I guarantee they will be able to relate and assist you better.
In general I am healthy I never need to go to doctors, I don't even know how much is my pressure. But once I experienced extraordinary and extremely hard pain on my head and also heart pain. I visited emergency of this hospital, at the entrance they checked my blood pressure and confirmed it was too high and sent me in a yellow zone to wait doctor. I was waiting for three hours and nobody came. The worse part is they served all the people who were not only before me but after me even! My pain of head and heart was developing and still I asked the stuff politely maybe you don't have my information I am here for hours and you served all the people who were even after me, they confirmed they had information but asked me to wait. I waited almost one more hour but still no attention (they continued serving others). Then I complained I had a pain what was developing and response was "what can we do with head pain we are nurses?" and they did not even know that I had a heart pain too. The real catastrophic is THEY DECIDED MY PAINS WERE NOT PROBLEMATIC and that`s why they continued serving others. High blood pressure (what they also confirmed that I had) is dangerous and can cause death, I am not saying heart pain what I also had!... After having no attention I said I am going to a different hospital, I can`t wait while Im dieing, and they quietly answered: "OK, you can go".... What a gibe!. I saw many hospitals around the world but I never saw such unprofessional medics and service!
Waiting time was just horrible.... we have spent about 4.5 hours to see the doctor 1 day and another 5 hours on the following day....staff doesn’t care if you feel bad and don’t prioritize their patients. If you have any other options- do not come over here.
Worst nurses, worst doctors, carless, they see so many ill people a day that they have zero human compasion. Hospitols arnt olny supposed to help people with their illnesses but have moral support aswell. Dispicable service, All the staff of this hospitol should be fired and hire and train new staff with accordance to human care and support !! Disgusting people!! I feel bad to live in such an amazing country #2 in the world to be precise, and have such a terrible health care system!!
Absolutely incredible from beginning to end. My husband was brought into ER then transferred to ICU for 5 days. Released after 16 days..13 doctors, many nurses, cleaners, staff, triage, check in, pharmacist, patient satisfaction, …
To all the staff at NYGH. Over the past 5 weeks, I've had the need to be a patient on five occasions, culminating with prostate surgery on March 18. Everyone, from security and cleaning services too the emergency team and the day surgery staff, all were professional, compassionate and positive. Thank you Dr. Buckley, Dr. Golda and Dr. Haje for your expertise. A shout out to the nurses on the 5th floor. I'm truly grateful for everyone's tireless effort during such difficult times. Thanks Brian Streicher
I have only good things to say about my experience at the hospital. I came in around 10 pm and although the emerg was busy a nurse quickly recognized the pain I was in. I said I think I have a bad bladder infection. She sort of laughed and said she thought I was passing a kidney stone. They had me in a bed promptly and gave me pain meds. It was kidney stones. I had only heard of men having them. I felt better after a while but they wanted me to stay and have a scan. We compromised and I went home for 9 hrs and came back. They made arrangements and were waiting for me at noon. I had my scan and was out of there in 20 minutes!! Likewise for another scan they asked me to come in at 9 pm to see if I had passed the other 3 stones. I got there a bit early and was back home by 9.20 pm so much my son asked if I had gone yet!. They also got a heated blanket for me when I was cold and moved me to a quieter part of the ER. I would definitely return to the hospital. Several friends have also had good outcomes.
Horrible experience. I was 19 weeks and four days pregnant and was told in the case of any emergency that I could go to their Labour and Assessment center and be seen by their on-call OB. After not feeling my babies heartbeat for a full day (after weeks of feeling it consistently), I was told by the nurse that they could not do anything for me because they only take patients 20 weeks and on! She then proceeded to say that they don’t have any ultrasounds on site just to verify if my baby still had a heartbeat, and that there’s no way I have felt any movement before twenty weeks because she “ had three kids and never felt them before then” and I should wait to call my OB the next day. Some kind of emergency service. Make or break over three days! Total trash. Stay away from this place if you don’t want just a few days to determine whether you’re worthy of the hospitals time to care for your baby in the middle of the night.
it’s kinda scary since it doesn’t seem like they separate ppl waiting for COVID and ppl waiting for regular ER initially.....not ideal And it’s so busy here that it’s been like 5 hours since we came and my dad is still waiting for the doctor to diagnose him! He’s waiting in the room and can see that the doctor is seeing new patients
Thank you to Dr. Kirsten Smith, the nursing staff, and to everyone from Labour & Delivery. The team is absolutely fantastic, very experienced, and highly professional. They were quick to take action and take care of our family and all of our concerns from head to toe.
My personal experience at ER was very good. I haven't been to ER in about 12 years. Doctors and nurses were very nice even though it was busy. All tests were done in a respectful manner. I've been to Humber River which is plain horrid.
We had all our children at North York and had the best reviews until having to go to the ER the last 2 times. It is not clear what has changed, or if the Liberal cutbacks are affecting care however it has become very diminished with the most common ER response being to just send people home. I tore 2 tendons in my dominant shoulder in December, was in so much pain I was taking 24 Advil per day and it was not enough. After waiting for 4 hours in ER the Doctor who looked like he was in his 60s stated: "Well, I am not going to do anything for you. You are in your 40s, its not worth fixing!" And I was told to call him in 3 weeks for a cortisone shot at his office if not better. I had to wait 2 more weeks to get an ultrasound so the physiotherapist and chiropractor had an idea what the problem was, how bad and how to treat it effectively. No one asked for immediate surgery, how about finding out how bad it was, how about something for pain, instead of being told in your 40s you do not deserve any medical attention from North York General. This week our 3 year old after 10 days on antibiotics broke out into a full body rash, his face swelled so badly it was completely deformed, eyes barely open and body covered in painful red rashes. We already gave him benadryl, and his older brother went through this and was prescribed something from his doctor and it cleared up immediately, in one day. As his paeditrician was away we took him to North York ER, where we waited for 4 hours, they gave him benadryl and sent him home, did not give him the prescription to deal with it. The next day he was worse, legs swollen, in pain and hurt to walk. Took him to the other paeditirican who said the Paeditrician at North York wanted to see him. I insisted on the prescription in case it was another waste of time at North York. We went over, he had no medication since morning, we waited 2 1/2 hours for nothing, no paeditrician came to see him. He was in pain, swollen, itchy and tired after not sleeping and eating for 2 days. I took him and just left, it certainly seemed like they wanted to see him to ensure they were covered against a law suit only, no intention to actually offer any care! I took him home, finally gave him the prescription he should have received, no more hives, no more itching, however his legs still swollen in the evening. Cannot say anything positive about North York, especially the ER at this point, it has become a joke. Go, wait until you have to pay the full parking fee of $22, and then they send you home to "get through it"!
Great experience here. Doctors who have looked after me (Dr. David Smith, and team) helped me feel very comfortable and informed before my surgery. I felt I was in good hands all the way through my experience.
I had a bad and scary experience from this hospital for my family member who is visitor in Canada with a traveling insurance. They did only blood tests, repeatidly, the same once and ECG for 24 hours. 3 different doctors came by, they asked the very same questions. I felt as if was on a market and not in hospital. The doctor asks questions, doesn't give any solution and asked to be paid $450, because he is indipendent from hospital. He even threatens not to share the info with insurance company before he gets his money. Had to leave the hospital untreated, have no trust to these people that don't merit the title DOCTOR. He was not able to give any answer for diagnosis but was capable to tell me that we had to stay in hospital until the amount of expenses arrived $20,000 - $30,000!!!! I really want to see at the laws. Don't want to believe they are allowed to treat people so poorly.
I love this hospital! I ended up at North York General Hospital when I had a concussion. I was very well taken care of. The staff were friendly and efficient. After I was discharged, I had follow up appointments to ensure that everything was in order. When I had to take my mom here because she wasn’t doing too well at one point, instead of just giving her fluids and sending her home, they ran tests to make sure there were no major issues. They ruled it as vertigo but not once was this ever mentioned to me when I had to take my mom to other hospitals. Everyone in every department is thorough. Thank you all for all that you do. Side note, pay for parking. They have security here who do rounds quite often, and I’ve seen people get tickets.
