THANK YOU Mountainside for taking care of Topaz for 2 days ~ Doctors & staff were professional, experienced, kind & explained everything while answering my many questions. #SOgrateful

Fast, reliable, kind service. My cat developed an ear infection last week. Not wanting to let an infection fester for even half a day I took him here. Service was fast, especially for a triage based location. I cannot stress how wonderful the staff were, especially the vets handling my boy. The doctor was so kind and thorough in her prognosis. It's easy to see the staff here love what they do. Triage is brutal work and this crew deserves a ton of praise. Thank you for giving my boy Midnight such wonderful care! ????????‍⬛

Having visited Mountainside Animal Hospital on several occasions, I have observed nothing but compassion, professionalism and unwavering enthusiasm and passion for helping animals in need. If you are on the North Shore, Mountainside's emergency services are available to you 24 hours a day and will not take away or cause issues with your primary vet. Highly recommended.

Our 1 and a half year old Border Terrier ingested chocolate around 9pm and we called Mountainside right away. From the first initial call, the staff was personable, sensitive, and informative, a much needed response to a moment when I was feeling extremely anxious for my puppy. Once I arrived, we were greeted by a cheerful staff member (the same I'd chatted with over the phone) who was up front with me about possible wait times but also that they were triaging cases. The doctor and staff members kept me in the loop, calling at each step in Hazel's treatment (induced vomiting). Due to the Covid situation, I was not allowed inside the clinic, so being kept in the loop made waiting not so bad. I was also informed that the doctor would be in until 6am if anything else happened, which made me feel more confident in bringing her home. All in all, I would recommend bringing your pet to Mountainside. The staff were amazing, despite additional stressors I'm sure have been added by Covid, and I was so grateful for this, after a long long day!

We brought our 13Y old dog in and wanted basic care and find out, if we can save him or if we have to say our good bye as he was in pain. The vet on duty looked at this as an opportunity and proposed to run diagnostics and keep him there for $4000 and up quotes and potential surgery in addition. We were upset and took him home and had him spend the night with us so he at least was calm and with his family. We felt that diagnostics and surgery for thousands of dollars was more important to them than caring for the animal and its owners. I would not go back here.

You know what ,i feel really sad and at the same time shocked, angry when I read the so negative reviews that some people have posted, fortunately shadowed by the numerous highly positive posted ones as this hospital and entire team deserves. My beloved pets have been ALWAYS so warmly welcomed by the reception and vet assistant team .you can see they love animals and their job Examination by the vet always went smoothly in great respect and care of my pets wellbeing.,taking whatever time is needed to solve the issue he was seeing them for. His explanations were clear, precise, detailed and given in a courteous manner. And keep in mind The patients are our pets not us. Do not forget the vet cannot read your mind.So if you need more information ,do ask him.He will always take the time to make sure everything is clear for you. Do not forget though and understand too , this is an emergency hospital and, as such, time is precious and counted at times. The cost, yes the cost ! Well yes the health of our pets costs as does yours. It is true that being covered by our envied Health services in Canada most people do not know the cost of our health.Next time ,I hope for you never, you need to have MRI or CT scan taken, please do ask for the cost of it,even though you do not have to pay.I think you will be shocked by the cost. This new emergency hospital has been equipped by the newest highest technology equipments your pets will be offered if and whenever necessary to treat their health issues This costs. Think of taking an insurance for them. You will never regret it.Yes another cost but take it in consideration when thinking of having a pet because it will very easily come to a high amount ,eventually at time, specially with big dogs and wherever animal hospital you go to. It would be heartbreaking not being able to stop the suffering of our darlings not having the financial means to do it, The hospital team will do its utmost to help you schedule the payments but this might not be enough for you. Well for me our pets are fortunate to have this hospital open 24 hours 7 days a week. The team, the qualification of the vets ,the services and the facilities could not be of highest quality. So please do not transfer your understandable stress and fear ,as you witness your pet suffering , to this fantastic team. They do their utmost within their capacities and always with love ,compassion and care for your beloved pets.

WIth the heavy snow that came down on Sunday i had no choice but to take my dog to the nearest emergency hospital which was Mountainside! I will never take my dog to this facility again. He was shivering and literally crying because of pain. Since i had no insurance i asked them to test my dog based on priority so the doctor said they first need to take an xray from his spine. They did, she came back and said there is nothing wrong with his spine and then she took a urine test and a blood test. After waiting for 2 hours she came back and said she could not pinpoint where the problem was. After they charged me a hefty amount of $1800, they said they contacted the specialist and turned out he has IVDD which is a disc disease in dogs. I am wondering how the doctor did not see that in his Xray in the first place? because if she had done that, i wouldnt have had to do a urine or blood test. I only agreed to do those tests because she told me the problem could not have been from his spine. My dog is a super friendly and calm dog, they also sedated my dog for the xray and charged me a whole lot for it. The next day i went to my regular veterinarian and he said that since he is a small dog they couldve also included an xray of his abdomen with his spine in one xray. He took an xray of my dogs abdomen and did not sedate him since he said it was not needed. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE experience at this hospital and i would never take my dog back there. They only care about the money and nothing else. I understand that they have monopolized this business as they are the only emergency hospital in the northshore, but that doesnt mean that they should take advantage of worried pet owners and charge them a fortune!

Alanna Reyse

A money hungry facility with very little compassion and empathy for the animals and the grieving owners. Expect to pay before they tell you what is actually wrong with your pet. Would give negative stars if I could.

Mountainside employees were great with me and my dog Karma at a terrible time where she ended up having to go to sleep forever. They gave us as much time as we needed together and were so very compassionate. It was a big help for the worst day. They are a great Vet with very understanding and compassionate employees but more expensive than any other veterinarian I've been too. Obviously the cost is due to the amazing equipment they have and beautiful building but pets are already expensive and the most costly needs for a veterinarian are emergencies when pet owners may not be prepared for such high costs. Being 24hrs is great for people who can't leave work for appointments though. I would definitely recommend Mountainside to other pet owners.

I'd forgotten to refill our cat's Rx thyroid meds with our regular vet who is closed on Saturdays, so I called this place and was helped by the most friendly person I've encountered in a long time. She put me on hold and went to confirm that they had the exact dosage in stock, then came back and booked me in for that afternoon. Very reassuring

Dr. Homer and the staff at Mountainside were great last night when I had an emergency with my hedgehog. Emergency care isn't cheap, and neither is any of the employees time. Reading reviews on here it seems many people are overlooking the monetary part of animal ownership. Please be nice to the people who are always there for you. Thanks Dr. Homer for reassuring me and making a difficult time a bit easier.

Arash Memarzadeh

Thank you to everyone here for helping us track down our rescue that got a little too excited and jumped our fence in search of some fun. Shout out to Janice (I hope I spelled it correctly) for taking the time to contact the DNV in order for them to get in contact with me. Much love!

Arya Oskui

I understand that the service is only provided after the consent is obtained from your clients. Please keep in mind that your quote for an initial visit is twice, if not three times more than other 24/7 clinics in town (Burrard and Oak animal hospital). I can’t blame anyone who thinks you’re taking advantage of the pet owners’ emotional state to overcharge.

Meow

horrible service very rude staff they over charge for everything. Very unimpressed with how i was talked to. Trying to charge me $100 for something i can get for $20. They want me to bring my hedgehog that clearly has a UTI in for another exam so they cant squeeze another 100$ out and when i asked the women what kind of exams she will be doing on a tiny hedgehog and she got an attitude with me. vets are scams.

There are not enough good words to say about the wonderful team at Mountainside. We brought in our pup for a pretty nasty stomach bug + diarrhea. They were SO quick to take her in, incredibly kind and took the time to explain every single step of the treatment plan. They pulled together an incredibly comprehensive treatment plan that worked like a charm and she seems almost back to herself just two days later. We were kept updated throughout her stay, never made to feel bothersome for getting in touch, and you could tell that the whole team really cared about the animals in their care. So, so grateful to the whole team - you're amazing. Thank you. P.S. to all of those complaining about the cost - get pet insurance. Life happens, pets get sick and medicine is expensive. Your pets are worth it. The team processed our claim directly and Trupanion paid out in less than 24hrs.

Andrew Butler

Stay away! THIS PLACE IS A TRAP. We took our dog in for suspected poisoning. Within 20 minutes, they had her signed up for $4,000 worth of procedures just to see what was going on. They refused to provide any treatment, at all, without a commitment to the full $4000. We got out of there by paying the $200 ransom they called an examination (double the industry standard). The next day a real vet diagnosed and treated her for $350. including examination, vaccines and medications for the week. The treatment plan came with options for additional care including bloodwork and an x-ray, if required, for an additional $500. Instead of piling on as many services as possible, they did everything necessary to get her condition under control then urged us to return they next day for more solutions if the first round didn't improve her situation. Doesn't that sound like what a medical clinic should do? Honest transparent treatment, I think so. Save your money. Find a place that cares about animals not huge profits. Your furbuddy will thank you.

I am extremely pleased with the care my cat, Mowgli received under emergency basis at this clinic. About 3 weeks ago Mowgli was attacked by one of my dogs and had a deep laceration on the back of his head. The event happened around 9pm and this was the only place that was open. Dr. Homer was the vet who took care of him and he was very pleasant, professional, and you can tell he genuinely cares about the welfare of the animals in his care. He let us know he needed surgery in order to clean out the wound since my cat has long hair, yes the estimate was expensive but he was very kind in explaining the reasoning behind everything. As a young adult living with my partner in Vancouver, money is tight; but he did not pressure us into having all x-rays and CT scan done, rather he let us know we can take it step by step to see how things turn out. When we went back to have his stitches removed, Dr. Westcott was very kind and generous. I would highly recommend this clinic, all the admin staff and vets are amazing. Mowgli has healed amazingly and is just about back to his normal self! I can't thank them enough!

This hospital is new and clean and the reception staff are friendly but unfortunately this place seems to run as a massive cash grab. The vet here failed to communicate what the full cost of procedures would be and seemed only concerned about ensuring we signed the paperwork. Super sneaky and super cruel when you, as a pet owner, are most vulnerable and worried about your pup. I suppose our insanely expensive invoice helped pay for all the beautiful, brand new facilities - you're welcome.

Pilates With Joanne

Do not bring your pets here. Other than a friendly receptionist, and the hospital being clean, there is nothing else that is positive about this place. We brought our dog here because she was having seizures during the night. We should have gone to East Van, but this place was close. When we arrived, they took in our dog.. gave her a quick look over, then came back to us with payment options ranging from very expensive, to insanely expensive. We asked for the basics, and while in the waiting room, the vet would come back and suggest more tests to be performed. Over $1200 later we were given some pain meds and went home. We paid this - as we found it hard to say no... See, when your pet is hurting - you are the most vulnerable. We felt vulnerable that night - and were hoping for a caring compassionate vet... We ended up leaving with 2 bottles of pills that did not work... and finally were able to give our dog major relief using $20 CBD treats that we found on our own. This is the very first negative review I have ever written anyone - however we have had dogs our entire lives, and saw many different vets. This experience was unlike any other.

Great vet hospital with excellent, caring, diligent staff. Great location, parking, super clean facilities. I would 100% recommend to friends and family, and have! They have flexible hours for appointments which is great for people working 9-5. I brought my briard, Beau, to them after-hours when we had an at-home scare and switched to them as my pup's vet immediately when I saw how they treated her (and comforted me!). Thank you!!

Nima

I had to bring in my dog for IVDD and the Doctor quoted us a price range and advised my dog will be going home the next morning. Next day, the doctor advised my dog has shown great improvement and is stable but he was kept for an extra day for no reason other than waiting for a neurologist to get back to them for a referral. In addition , on the same day, the doctor gave us a quote that we need to pay for extra night stay but then the next morning when I was checking out, the bill was increased aggressively by $500. Then i was told the doctor could not remember the quote he was given to me !!!! Making long story short, this place only charges you extra for no reason. They keep your pet in order to make extra cash even when you pet is stable . In addition, they have no followup visits . they don't give you any medical advice for medication , adverse reaction etc unless if you bring in your pet again for a full consultation , even if you have been there yesterday for the same condition or if your pet is insensitive to the medication. The team are not being truthful and show inconsistency in their communication. I would never recommend this place unless if you have no other option and your pet's health is in danger.

Fabulous place. Our first time at Mountainside but not our furst time with the vet we saw. We have gone to Dr Alastair Westcott for many years for all our animals and I still consider him to be one of the best veterinarians in Vancouver. He is excellent at diagnosis and assessment and at the same time very wholistic in his approach to treatnent and intervention. We have found Dr Westcott to be extrenely compassionate to not only the animals themselves but the human beings that are attached to these animals and he takes the time to get to know us and work with us and our care for our animals. What I particularly love about Dr Alastair Westcott is that he is gifted as a scientist and at the same time is a humanitarian and someone who truly loves animals. This is a wonderful combination. Mountainside is a lovely place - very very friendly people working at the desk - and an atmosphere that felt like a beautiful and relaxed and professional health centre which had a lovely effect on our dog ( and us!) who seemed genuinely happy to be there.

Excellent service provided by caring, competent professionals.

My 2 year old Jada had surgery done in Boundary Bay Hospital in Langley. We live in North Vancouver so Mountainside hospital was very convenient for us. I called them and asked if they could just remove Fentanyl patch off my dogs body for free as otherwise we would have to drive all the way to Langley to have that done there. They were very helpful and took us in right away. I have dealt with three people and all three were amazing so loving and gentle. The technician and assistant came all the way down to the car and removed it there as my doggy couldn’t walk and was scared. I was so very thankful for this wonderful experience this was way above my expectations thank you so very much Mountainside and the wonderful staff.

Great experience all around, awesome staff greeting you as you walk in the door, our veterinarian was amazing, as well as the facility it’s self- just astounding. I will definitely be bringing all my pets here:)

I have to give a poor review of my experience at this clinic. I took my almost 20 cat in as an emergency visit because she wasn’t herself. She had all the symptoms of end stage renal failure and having cared for her kidney disease for 5 years, I was aware of what this might look like. The vet seemed to rush the expensive exam, saying she couldn’t look in her mouth without sedation. She proposed a $1500-2000 quote to sedate and examine a 20 year old kidney cat. I declined the care, we took antibiotics and took her home. I had been able to examine her gums myself with the help of a YouTube video and saw she had ulcers. We saw her regular vet a couple days later and with no tests, he agreed that she was on her way out and there was nothing more to be done. We had a peaceful home euthanasia the next day, which she barely made it to. Im not upset about the outcome for my cat, I was disappointed because of the very wrong call by the vet, but they did the classic thing, arguing me out of the most likely diagnosis (renal failure), as an excuse for running many tests. Her regular vet said she probably wouldn’t have even survived the sedation and I agreed. They also missed the distress she was in and left her without pain medication she very much needed for the next couple of days. I am okay with the outcome, but only because I declined the care they suggested. Also I give a star because the front desk staff were lovely, but I can’t recommend this vet.

Our kitten is a bit dehydrated, couldn't get in Saturday to our normal vet, so we took her here. She needs a little help getting her fluids back up. We got an estimate with a full page long list of a couple dozen expensive tests, X-ray, ultrasound and medication, estimate range of $3,260-$3,690. We got off the phone to discuss, called back and declined - the Dr. then insisted on on a lesser treatment of subcutaneous fluid injection and a couple other things for around $400. We got off the phone AGAIN to discuss, called back and declined and asked for our kitten back. Dr. again insisted on speaking with us, pushing for administering pain killer injection and take-home pain killer, for $60 over the emergency exam fee (charged at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, when our normal vet was OPEN - just booked up). Every time I spoke with the vet, it felt like I was talking to a used car salesman, trying to squeeze every last dollar out of me that he could. And if you read more of the reviews below, many of the replies are all defending their pricing and business practice, not about care for the pets. What sealed it for me was when receptionist was taking my payment, the last thing he said was not "we hope your kitten feels better soon"... it was "thank you for your business". My jaw hit the floor. As did my wife and daughter who were in the car with the phone on speaker at the time. This is very clearly a BUSINESS first. It's clearly all about the money here. Steer clear if you can.

Dr. Alastair Westcott, DVM

I find it fascinating how easy it is for anyone who is disgruntled to be able to slander, lie and defame a business or individual by using an internet review forum. Mountainside Animal Hospital and 24hr Emergency Services was built with years of agonizing planning and financing. We are owned privately and not by a large buying group or corporation. The doctors and team are so well trained in high-level, gold standard veterinary medicine. We save many lives and improve the lives of so many grateful patients and owners. We work long hours and remain open and available 24/7. We are equipped with cutting edge and very modern diagnostic systems to be able to quickly diagnose and treat any condition presented to us. We are part of this community and here to stay. If you read any negative review on any reputable veterinary hospitals’ Google presence, you will see a reference to money. Quote “ all they care about is the money”, “they ran all these unnecessary tests”, “the doctors are paid on commission so they always try to gouge you”, etc, etc etc. Always the same theme .... Money!! Then they try and disguise the issue by alluding to vets not caring, unprofessional behaviour, caring more about the money than their sick pet. These people had the opportunity to prepare for a potential emergency as a number of very good pet medical insurance plans exist. There are on-the-spot financing options provided. They chose not to prepare or plan and lay the blame for that decision on us somehow. Some people use phrases like “its just a dog” or “just a cat” to justify the fact that they don’t want to pay for services, hurl abuse at the doctors or receptionists, stomp out of the hospital with a sick pet, drive off in their Escalade or porsche SUV and write a negative review that is essentially untrue. The problem for establishments such as ours is that the hundreds of very satisfied and happy pet owners are busy people and don’t take the time to post a positive review. Instead we get cards and wonderful thank you letters. We are vocationally driven. We are emotional people connected to what we do for our patients. We spend many sleepless nights up with critically ill patients, gently nursing them back to health. We will perform a life saving GDV surgery at 4/00 am after 6 cups of Maxwell House coffee. We, as a profession, also have the highest suicide rate and burnout because of really nasty people, thankless attitudes and cyberbullying. To all our wonderful clients and patients out there we thank you so much for your support. To the defamers and disgruntled liars, we would urge you to refrain but that would be a waste of time. Instead, next time, prepare for potential veterinary expenses so the focus can be placed on what is best for your companion and pet and not on the cost of those services. Thank you very much

Leah Morrows

They seem to care more about the cost / up charging than actually caring for your pet.

Although yes the real estate Mountainside is on is expensive, and although their facilities are modern and up to date and their services and technologies are very advantageous, innovational and modern there are three VERY fatal flaws to how this place runs and works 1) The staff are not only dishonest about procedures and are practically human mirror mazes when it comes to good dialogue and communication and they use "corporate dialogue" too much but they will ALWAYS try to use the same saying whether it's "gold standard" or "best suggested" or "highly recommended" to see if they can UPSELL you unnecessary or even UNHEALTHY procedures or operations JUST so they can get a bigger price out of it which is also known as a CASH-GRAB 2) They reply to negative reviews not only trying to mask up their own behaviour and work ethics but they also will try to downplay the concerns of various unsatisfied and frankly disappointed customers REGARDLESS of their own individual experience 3) They also try to keep your pet for as long as possible whether it's an hour or a day or EVEN A WEEK, all just so they can pay you extra fees and misinterpret costs and prices all for their own financial benefit (and sometimes they even FORGET how much to charge you and just add extra for no reason anyway) Overall I'd say this is a vet that should only be visited as a LAST RESORT ONLY, if there are other, more professional and more adequately trained and equipped staff and veterinarians at other animal hospitals that you can go to then PLEASE DO SO, otherwise Mountainside is a last resort option and either way it is NOT an optimal experience for the customer, for the pet, and for your wallet

I think it's wonderful that we have a great new 24 hour vet Hospital on the north shore. I brought my dog Vallee in today for several reasons the reception staff are efficiant professional and friendly. The technician was caring and gentle and Dr. Colgan was fantastic! She patiently listened to all my concerns and together we came up with a procedure plan that was made with caution, care and compassion. I highly recommend this Hospital they are taking very good care of me and my dog.

Where to begin?!Ended up needing urgent care for our fur baby for a preventable accident. Our little chi-mutt needed ICU for a couple of days and we weren't sure it would end well but it did! I don't have the words to express how grateful I am to this first rate team.Every single person I dealt with, from reception to vet was so incredibly kind, compassionate and above all, competent.I was never made to feel bad about the circumstances that brought us there and they went above and beyond to keep me updated about our baby's condition. She was the patient, but I felt royally cared for as well.Thank you a million times for saving our Chula and being so lovely. Worth every penny!!!!!!!!!!

Theo Melo

They are so attentive and kept us constantly posted about any updates about our cat. She stayed in their care during the weekend and you can see how careful they were. The staff is also very friendly and kind!

Outstanding team doing a trying job, during a trying time.

Please read the reviews. I didn't read the reviews first and have no one to blame but myself. 3.5 stars is the horrible rating for an animal hospital. I am still traumatized by the mistake I made going there.

Joel Moorehead

Thanks to the amazingly talented doctors at Mountainside Animal Hospital, our 6 month old little puppy John is alive and doing really well after being hit by a truck. With their warm hearts and genuine care, every member of staff made such a traumatic experience much easier to deal with. 100% recommend :)

The amount of thought and care that went into this state of the art facility is astounding. While I don't want to have to use it very often, just knowing that I now have 24hr access to it all brings me & my family great comfort. Thank you Mountainside!

Roxana Pistol

They are very caring and supportive and Dr. Parsons was amazingly patient and took her time examining my dog.

Dr. Clare Doherty and the entire team are truly outstanding. Although it was a heart breaking visit, the compassion shown as we had to put our cat down was incredible. Covid precautions were in place- the tech came to get our Biscuit from the car as we arrived. Dr. Doherty called to explain everything and was so incredibly patient as I fell apart. As the rest of the family members arrived, we were ushered in to a private room to have our final moments to say goodbye. As we left, we were never pressured to make immediate payment and everyone gave their condolences. The invoice was emailed with the kindest message. The staff at Mountainside made the very best of a terrible situation. Thank you, Dr. Doherty and the entire Mountainside team!

We brought our puppy in in the early morning hours after she was extremely sick and got prompt, attentive, and friendly service by all of the staff. Thank you very much for saving our puppy, we are forever grateful to this amazing and beautiful hospital. A lot of reviews discuss the high costs, however I understand the cost of running such a facility would be really high, and the costs were justified, especially for middle of the night service. Pet insurance always helps as well.

Taryn Yezek

I requested a tour of the brand new facilities the other day and was kindly taken back by staff into the treatment area to start. From the front desk to the technicians and veterinarians in the back, everyone was caring, friendly and professional at all times. The facilities are equal to that of human hospitals! A much needed addition for animal owners on the North Shore. It’s comforting to know all my pets needs can be met here.

Fantastic service!! Had the unfortunate need to take my cat Simba last night as he was not well. It was obvious he was not in his usual spirits, mildly aggressive and seemed to had issues urinating. So at 9pm on a Saturday night, it just didn’t seem right to go to sleep and let him deal with it for the night. I gave them a call to see what the best course of action should be after reading online that he could have a blockage or crystals and that it could become severe in a short matter of time to the point of possible death. They confirmed my worries were validated and advised I should bring him in right away so I packed him up and drove from Squamish. Upon arrival, they were quick to pick him up and explained he would be checked by the vet right away. We had to stay and wait in the car due to Covid, but they called us with an update every hour. After blood and urine work, they were able to confirm this just started and thankfully there was no damage to his kidneys or heart. They have him anti-inflammatory, pain meds and some antibiotics just in case and we were able to take him home 3 hours later. There was 5 other cars in the lot so I could tell they were really busy but still took the time to take care of him, update us every steps of the way and go in great details regarding the next steps. Simba and our family are grateful for dr. Homer and his team’s care!! He is now home and much more like himself!

I brought my cat who was lethargic and seemed to maybe have eaten a bird or something. Next thing they are trying to test him for HIV, hepatitis, diabetes etc... For $3600. How about an X-ray first? Got some pain meds and hydration and he was good the next day. I really felt like I was getting gouged.

Love this place! Got our puppys shots here and they also helped us out in an emergency situation with our dog as well. Top of the line facility, super clean and the staff are excellent and so knowledgable. We have seen a few vets here and they all were great. Highly recommend!!

High cost and do nothing

All the staff at Mountainside (Kim & Rose on the front desk and Doctor Homer & a doctor who's name I forgot) were great when I had to rush my cat Jack to their hospital this week having ingested some of my medication. It was a stressful journey from Whistler and Kim was so calm and reassuring during every phone call I made on the way. Dr. Homer went into great detail about Jacks treatment plan and made sure I understood what was happening before sending it through email for my consent. I found them all to be incredibly professional and compassionate throughout the entire process. Jack spent the night to be monitored and have tests carried out and the team kept me informed and were very responsive. It is ironic to me that most of these negative reviews are linked to the cost of care - as a responsible pet owner, you should either have pet insurance or money stored away for the event of accident or injury. Thank you again to all the team at Mountainside, Jack and I are very grateful for your help and care.

I took my baby Oliver in for a emergency as he had a bloody nose. These amazing vets as staff helped me through the hardest time I never thought I would have to go through. They Talked me through all the procedures and diagnostics that they were doing. Even though my baby could not be saved they did everything they could to make sure that was the case. They were available 24 hours a day to give me updates... And in the end they let me and my fiance have a private room with candles lit so we could have our goodbyes.. A week later I received his ashes in the most beautiful cedar box with his name engraved on the top. I will never forget the wonderful experiences I had with Mountainside animal hospital. Even though it was one of the worst days of my life. Their staff made sure we were well taken care of. I can't thank them enough.

I had to make one of the hardest decisions in my life a few weeks ago when I had to put my dog down, but it was made a little easier by the kind and helpful staff here. They picked up the phone almost immediately a little after 4am, and were well staffed for how early in the morning it was. The doctor was very honest about my girl's condition, and did not push me to do tests when it was very apparent that regardless of the results, the outcome did not look good for her. When I went back for her ashes five days later, the staff at the desk were very kind and genuine in their well wishes, and the sympathy card I received a few days later had numerous messages from the staff--everyone had something kind to write. No one just signed their name. I have nothing bad to say against the staff or facilities. This is an excellent and sorely needed additon to the north shore, and I am very grateful to everyone here for making Mya's last hour as comfortable as they could.

I took my cat here a week day late afternoon, waited in the parking lot due to their covid policy, while the doctor did a physical exam. My cat wasn’t eating drinking and was hiding, having difficulty walking. He is a young cat with no prior medical issues. Nothing was found in the examination except that he had slight fever, so they wanted to keep him overnight to do blood/urine work, or do x-ray, ultrasound etc. doctor said those were my options. I decided to take my cat home and observe another day or two. I eventually took him to a different clinic and during physical examination which I was allowed into the room, they found there was an infected wound in his paw, which was causing the fever, and all the other behaviour changes. He is now on antibiotics and pain meds.

Very happy with the work they done for our toy Chihuahua. He got his teeth cleaned and fixed, they are very kind and gentle.Very thankful and happy for the work they done. His recovery is going very well. Thank you everyone for the help and work they done for our tiny boy.

Friendly and professional staffs with state of the art facility.

Open 24/7. Reception staff is pleasant and helpful. Beyond that, take your business elsewhere. Don't expect test results to arrive within the promised time or even 2x the suggested time. Treat as an expensive vet rather than an urgent care facility. Don't expect any follow up after your pet has passed on and you have questions about the services you were provided and how you could have done better .

I would recommend going to an alternative Vet as I did not have a good experience at Mountainside. Please get a second opinion before going ahead with recommendations from Mountainside.

We brought our recently rescued cat in when he started having digestive issues. The team at this clinic is totally amazing— with COVID there is a closed door policy in place but we felt very comfortable leaving Jimi in the hands of the vet tech. They walked us through everything over the phone and even offered advice on issues outside of our reason for the visit. They were so supportive and kind and even submitted our insurance claim for us so we didn’t have to do anything :) Would absolutely bring him here again (although hopefully we don’t have to!) Thank you so so much

Such a beautiful hospital. The staff made me and my rescue pup feel welcome and safe. I knew he was in good hands. Happy the north shore finally has an animal hospital of this quality.

Tayler the vet was amazing. Our 1.5 year old suddenly started throwing up then dropped to ground like he was dying. We panicked and took him here. They did NOT over charge us; Emergency visit is typically more expensive than regular ones but we didn't feel them "upselling" us on anything as per some of the comments. Tayler was caring and was able to diagnose his poisoning in the most cost effective way and suggested home remedies. The staff were also very responsive and caring. Thank you

Please, Please read the reviews before making a decision to contact them. Our dog was fell down and we wanted to see there is any broken or injury. They have asked us 2500$ for the x-ray and examination, then after x-ray they called us for further sonography investigation and the doctor insisted that this has to be done then he said it will cost 500$ more. VERY clearly we mentioned him we wont pay more than 3000$ in total because we lost our jobs (covid 19 result). Then he called back after sonography and said he couldn’t find any urgent issue (he was recommended for a surgery). We asked to take dog home BUT he said dog has to stay in hospital in night and YOU WONT be CHARGED because it is covered. Finally, the day after they asked us 3700$ dollar and dog’s tail doesn’t wage/move and doesn’t drink water. They don’t reply to our call and they said we forward the documents and you can go for complain. Conclusion: Please don’t get panic and don’t trust whatever they tell you. We don’t have job (covid 19) and we paid through visa with 21% interest and dog still sick….

Beware of this place! Very unorganized and unprofessional! They don't deserve one star. My 4.5 dog had small amount of diarrhea Monday, with no appetite and was sleeping most of the day. Tuesday she started drinking more water than usual, Wednesday started peeing in the house and continuing to drink water. We brought her down to the emergency around 11:00 Friday as she was not getting better. They said the couldn’t take her because there was only one vet and they were in surgery, he came back home. When i got home from work at 1am I called and they still said the couldn’t take her, they told me to wait until the morning. I took her to my vet in the morning, they told me to take her to the animal Hospital because their equipment was more accurate for blood testing. She was admitted to Mountainside Animal Hospital on the October 10th. I received a treatment plan 2656.00 to high range 4896.38, I had told them it was ok but to stay in range. The next day they called and wanted more money. They did test that weren’t related to the condition of penny, she is only 4.5 pounds, and charged me to keep her warm in the hospital by the hour, hundreds of dollars. I had questions about the bill and talked to Dr. Cassy the fill in vet the morning of October 12 around 1am, he was very kind and understanding. Told me that he’d have someone look into the numbers with a high authority and they would call me. Dianny Meney the vet taking care of Penny phoned me at 6:20am the same morning and threatened me to come get penny and she was going to send her home with no medications. She was extremely rude and showed no empathy toward penny or I. Dianne told me that she was stable, the reception call and said i couldn’t get her until i paid another 779.71. I have now paid 5877.84 for my penny that was in hospital for 50 hours. The older man that brought down the medication for penny said i didn’t have to do anything for another 8 hours because she had all her medicine doses in hospital, l left for work as my partner was home to take care of her. What ever they gave her in hospital before she left almost killed her. She was fine when we brought her down but 1 hour later was completely limp. My partner called the hospital they told him it was from the opoides and she needed them for pain, it was normal. When i got back from work at 1am she was still limp. I thought she was dead, i called the hospital and asked if they’d look at her because something was wrong. They told me not unless i gave them more money or i couldn’t come down. Then i read the discharge instructions and see that its a false discharge summary than what i had told them, just not accurate. Then when I read the other part of the discharge paper with the medicine it had antibiotics, pain, nausea doses all due from 5:00 to 7:00, hour 2 hours after picking her up. I called reception and they say the older man that gave me the medicine was mistaken and I should follow the paper. I told them there is no way she’s going to eat she’s limp. They said just give her the pain medicine because she needs it and start the antibiotics in the morning. My partner left for work at 6:00 so it woke me up as I was one the couch all night with my dog. I went to give her the antibiotics and the bottle was empty. I called and reception, they asked if there was a signature on the bottle. Yes there was initials on the bottle, they said it was a mistake and to come get them. I asked if there was anyway the could bring it to me as I have to kids in bed and a dog that wasn’t well, but of course that wasn’t possible. I’m devastated and can’t believe how someone can be so rude as the vet was to me. There were several mistakes made over and over. Dianne said she was stable, to leave the hospital. How could penny be limp an hour later?, why wouldn’t the care after me paying that much money? She died the morning of the 14th, when I woke up she was stiff. I didn’t ok the second bill but no choice but to pay it as I wanted to bring penny home.

Just brought Bruno in for a few vaccines and we couldn’t be happier with the service we received from the receptionists, veterinary assistant and the vet! Bruno used to go to a nearby vet but it would leave him scared for his next visit. The staff at Mountainside were very welcoming and you can tell instantly their love for pets. Each and every one of them gained Bruno’s trust and everything went perfectly! All the vaccines were explained and Bruno got some lovely treats as well. Extremely glad we decided to take him there!

We took our cat to Mountainside Animal Hospital at around 6:30 in the evening where he was diagnosed with having a blocked urinary tract. He was clearly in pain which was very distressing for me to see and I obviously wanted to relieve his pain. Mountainside gave me a "range" in cost to treat of roughly $2100-$4200. It was explained to me that the treatment involved a minimum of 2 days overnight stay, catheterization for at least 24 hours, a range of tests and monitoring once the catheter was removed. She then explained that the high end of the range would be in the case of re-blockage once the catheter was removed requiring an additional treatment. Throughout the ordeal I was told that he was reacting well to the treatment (no toxicity in his blood, no issues with his heart as it was caught early) although there was some trouble getting the catheter in place initially, and then he had managed to pull the catheter out and so it needed to be reinserted. Today I was shocked to find out that the hospital was going to charge us over $4200 for a procedure that I have been told is very common. I phoned another 24-hour care facility who told me that their range in price for the same procedure (with the same complications I mentioned before) would be between $2500-$3000. When I asked about the fee to re-catheterize, he explained that they had never allowed a cat to remove a catheter "it is secured in place and the cat is monitored 24 hours." In the 1% chance that a catheter is removed they would need to charge for it, but it would be "well less than $500." When I told him how much we were being charged he expressed shock, which is exactly how I am feeling to say the least. For the same treatment at our regular vet (non-emergency hours) the range would be $1500-$2000 Moral of the story: when they give you a "range," this clinic will find any reason to charge you the high end of what was quoted. Delbrook Mall Animal Hospital is open until 10pm every evening, and the Burrard Animal Hospital is well worth the drive to save >$1000.

Very attentive and friendly staff. We were made to feel at ease during a tough time with our dog, Jasper. Our vet was very professional and was great with Jasper and us too!

Only took my dog there once - never ever again. The reception was nice and welcoming , but the rest of the visit was horrible. 1: the doctor checked his eyes and did not see that he had an eye infection ! 2. Dr. didn't really try to interact with my shy dog 3. We were sold a tick and flea Treatment, which is an oral pill (this already made me very sceptical, cause it's toxic ) , that made my dog throw up twice, feel miserable and i later found out that this brand is known as one of the most dangerous treatments with almost 500 death cases since 2014, and many side effects . Like ... why would you sell this ??!! I don't trust that clinic and would not recommend going there

I will never come back to this animal hospital again. It is highway robbery. Furthermore telling someone one price and then taking their dog ransom ,and then giving the customers a totally inflated price is not Professional when we asked for our dog back, your attendees held our dog ransom, and would not give our dog back until we paid $173.00 dollars just to go upstair and back down. That's theft. It's not about the money, it's about business ethics!! Before she came down without our dog, she kept asking my credit card # info over the phone, and I said I don't have it with me. I even said just please bring the dog back, we are taking her to other Vet, the staff is not very helpful at all. Then you call me rude? I don't normally put a bad review , but this time I have to warn other pet owners. We told you before we went there he accidentally ate the chocolate under the Christmas tree, & wanted to know how much it will cost us first. You guys didn't do anything , but charge us just to walk our dog upstair and down.

Had to take precious little senior dog Schrodie down on Jan.2nd as he was in pain. When they called me several hours later they gave me the sad news that his time was up. I went with a friend and could not believe how peaceful and gentle the room was with lovely candles all around. They brought little Schrodie in wrapped in a blanket and let me hold him while he crossed the rainbow bridge. I miss him so much but knew at 15 it was his time. Thank you to the staff for making this such a peaceful experience.

Highly Recommend Dr Homer and his team. We had to go there for an emergency spleen surgery! Awesome service, round the clock care and attention to detail. We go there again but hopefully not for an emergency this time.

Staff told me that my cat would technically die if we do not pay $2000 and treat him within that day. Staff was so rude and cannot believe how they treated me. When I did not want to sign the waiver because of the financial situation, staff gave me such nasty look. They only cared about charging me, not helping out my cat. They are also really bad with communication. They did not mention any cost to the painkiller and just told my boyfriend they are going to put medicine on him. And turns out that would be another 100. Also told us to surrender the ownership as well. Overall, they were very rude and did not care about my cat at all. This place puts business before petcare. They followed up later on and I told them he is doing better; they proceeded to call BCSPCA. BCSPCA guy looked at my cat and said he is all good. This place really scared us in order for us to feel stressed, so we pay more.

If you want the highest level of care, both in terms of staff and technology, take your pet here.

Amazing Animal Hospital!!!!! People, great! Service, Great! Facility, incredible.

Costs an arm and a leg just to get in. Wouldn't put an end to a dying animal's misery till you pay unfront. rWhat is the use of having a 24 hour vet if you wont help when needed. Zero empathy!

I took my little kitty here late on Sunday night for an emergency. Right when I arrived the staff was fast, efficient and caring. I was mainly dealing with the receptionist 'Cecilian' and she was amazing! So sweet, attentive and understanding of this challenging time. Dr. Kestelman was working with my kitty and he was nothing but honest, reasonable and kind. They helped me with all my insurance questions and promptly made sure to follow up with me. I am very happy with my experience, especially since it was such a fragile time for me and my cat :) Thanks to the whole team !

Cant express how thankful we are for Mountainside Animal Hosptial. We had to urgently take our cat to them last nite, and they were so fantastic from beginning to end. Its always hard when you can't go in with your animal due to covid, but the team at mountainside were so kind and updated us regularly with what was going on. Everything happened within a few hours and we were able to take our baby home. I believe Dr. Tomas Homer was helping us and he was so amazing at explaining everything in detail and being so patient with all of our questions. I will be highly recommending this Hosptial to all my friends and family! Thanks so much guys!

First experience- took our dog after hours for severely extended belly, charged $300 for a "feel" and offered thousands of dollars of tests that they couldn't explain properly. The next morning our regular vet took one look and said " spleen is going to rupture"..our dog was fine after seeing our regular veterinarian. Second experience- our friend was not allowed to be in the room and hold their beloved dog while being euthanized...WTH...what type of vet denies a person the RIGHT to hold their animal during this awful time. If you need to know anything about the "service and care" they provided, this should be all you need to know. They gauge people on after- hours emergency care, which they really don't provide. Do your research and choose another reputable veterinary hospital.

Took my cat here a view weeks second worst vet ive been to. The clinic wasted my time not even bothering to ask if I wanted treatment for my cat or not apparently they where waiting for my phone call but they told me wait even though I had called them before trying to get more information. The vet was very rude I asker If the treatment was needed and if my cat was actually over heating all I got was it recommended we need a deposit. All they cared about was the $700 deposit. The vet never answered my question what so ever took my cat and left dont waste your time here.

I am writing this review because my neighbour had a terrible experience when he brought his 17-year old cat to Mountainside over the Christmas holidays. When he picked up his cat after it had stayed for treatment his bill was way over what he was originally quoted even though they told him that he would definitely get some of his deposit back. No one called him to approve additional treatment or discuss additional costs or options. He then needed to have his elderly cat euthanized in any event. The cat went threw unnecessary and unapproved tests and treatment, and my neighbour's impression was that money took priority over his cat's best interests. This is not the first time I have heard similar stories about Mountainside, and that is why I felt compelled to write a review. I know this new facility must have been very expensive, but that doesn't justify taking advantage of people.

We had to go in this morning, as our pup woke up with an eye infection. The receptionist, Nancy, the vet, were all absolutely amazing and so loving with our dog. We were super impressed with the Vet we got, Dr. Clare, she was so kind and really took her time. Thank you. Would recommend highly.

Had to be the most upsetting visit to the vet for myself and my bearded dragon. About 2 months ago i took my beardie zakk wylde to this vet, at the time they had an exotic reptile vet. The visit went great and they solved his mouth rot problem very quickly with the aid of a blood test. This was a plesent visit. Today however was a different story. Not only did they not tell me they no longer had an exotic reptile vet anymore when i made the appointment 2 days ago, they went ahead and made the appointment to fill their pockets. When I arrived I was still under the impression they had an exotic vet. They took my beardie in and spent 2 hours looking up how to solve his simple problem of not eating on the internet. I called multipul times wondering what they were doing and it was at this point the vet told me she didnt know what she was doing and was looking everything up. I also brought Zakk in because he recently broke a nail, she knew nothing about how to remedy this and said she was going to give him antibiotics. Antibiotics that could be okay for beardies or not, she doesnt know she just wanted to charge me for them and didnt care about if Zakks little body could handle it UNBEILIVANLE!!! It was at this point i demanded my pet back or i would contact the police. When i got him back HE WAS STONE COLD!!!!!! I CRIED with zakk warming up on my chest all the way home. I have never seen or felt my beardie pancake on my chest so quickly. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. YOU DO NOT TRY TO MAKE MONEY AT A BEARDED DRAGONS EXPENSE WHEN YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE HECK YOU ARE DOING. I am incedibly upset and will repost rhis on yelp and BBB.

If I could give Mountainside a lower rating I would! As you can see from a number of other reviews, Mountainside is only concerned about padding its invoices, with no concern or empathy for the animals given over to their care. I brought my cat of 15 years ("Guinness") in after he was having issues vomiting and straining to urinate or defecate. After the "consult", all they could tell me is that they needed me to sign off on $3000 of tests to allow them to diagnose anything. Apparently they are so incompetent that they cannot diagnose a single item based on actual symptoms versus running a complete battery of tests each and every time. Worried about his health I agreed to their high pressure tactics. After the tests it came back that he did have stones in his bowels and causing significant irritation. Regardless of that being the apparent immediate nature of Guinness' distress, the vet spent most of the call trying to upsell me on an incredibly expensive treatment option to address the long-term issues associated with hyperthyroidism. After putting him on an IV overnight and keeping him the entire next day (even after I called multiple times to get an update - think they just wanted to tick over for another 8-hour hospitalization charge), he was released with specialized food that would "hopefully" reduce the stones. Upon getting Guinness home I could tell that he was still not feeling well but I attributed it to the stress of the stay and all the tests that they ran (due to COVID could not go inside and see where/how he was kept). He did not improve overnight and showed no interest in eating or drinking. The following day he continued to have difficulty. Worried about his condition and not trusting the vets at Mountainside, I took him to Canada West. After their consult, they immediately told me that he was in congestive heart failure and had fluid around his heart, lungs and chest (in part from the IV received at Mountainside). Unfortunately, given his now weakened condition, it was unlikely that he would survive any further procedures. The vet at Canada West was very caring and empathetic and Guinness gently passed away in my arms that evening. The difference between the two facilities and their attitudes towards the animals could not be more stark. While both of them are emergency and by nature expensive, CanWest actually looked at Guinness as a loving family friend, versus Mountainside saw him purely as a cash stream.

Both of my dogs have been to Mountainside - one for an orthopaedic surgery, the other for an after-hours emergency, and both for general care and follow ups. The staff are experienced and attentive, and the care that both dogs received was exceptional. I am so glad to have a 24 hour emergency hospital on the North Shore.

Great experience, thanks

Terrible animal hospital. It is very clear they do not care about the animals nor the owners. I had a terrible experience here and would not recommend this animal hospital to anyone who wants honest and professional help for their pets. They take advantage of vulnerable owners in an emergency situation. They mistreat and don’t handle animals with any care. I wish I could give them a 0 stars. It is clear from the other reviews that this place will not last. The unprofessionalism at this animal hospital is shocking, a prime example is how Mr. Wescott left a 5 star review on his own company inappropriately targeting the unsatisfied customers, not exactly how to professionally handle complaints what a joke

I took my scruffy tough guy Wen in to the new clinic to see what it was all about and get flea and tick medicine. Wow, what a place, clean and huge! The staff was happy to introduce themselves, and I explained that my little dog could be shy and nippy, it was not a problem. The lobby is comfortable and spacious, and i am happy to know that I have access to a high tech clinic that's open at night as well as during the day.

Jill Newell

Had a great experience here! We were driving up from Denver, Colorado to visit family on Vancouver Island and our 8 month old puppy woke up with a swollen eye. We had no troubles getting in, and everyone who worked there was so kind! Our dog was well looked after and the veterinarian was so knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. Highly recommend this place! Thank you to the entire team for helping our little Lucille!

Please save yourself the stress and tears of going to this hospital. We took our little pup here on Friday night when she had some abdominal pain and was crying when we picked her up. The vet said that she was in a LOT of pain and needed a huge list of tests done which added up to thirty five hundred dollars. After crying for 40 minutes on the phone with them they suggested we just go home with three different medications from them which made my dog horribly sick and so doped up that we could barely wake her up the next morning. After we took her to our usual vet the next morning he suggested we stop the medication and suggested we go to Canada west for an ultrasound as our vet heard many people had this experience from mountainside. My friend said they wanted to put their dog to sleep for an x-ray of a sore leg and it ended up being 2 thousand dollars? So we stopped giving our pup the meds and she was totally her crazy silly self afterwards. Anyways now we are going to Canada west for not even half the price where I have heard nothing but amazing things about.

Sunday night our puppy was not well and dry heaving. Never been here before but felt we should have him looked at more closely. A quick X-ray was done and he was kept for monitoring for two hours and then they suggested an overnight stay at $800 for the night - plus any additional costs that may be incurred if things went sideways. We decided that because of the inconclusive X-ray, for what may be in his stomach, that his resting at home was our best (affordable) option, and to go back if things went sideways, since the 2 hours had already cost us $1200! Not many firms/people make $600 an hour but clearly our fault for not expecting this? I don’t know what the going rate for emergency vets are but this seems absurd. I’m all for businesses providing a service at a (reasonable / profitable) cost, and for a loved family member that needs medical attention but it seems this is over the top for an X-ray and 2 hours of monitoring. Doesn’t bode well for repeat business and word of mouth. Didn’t even get a follow up call the next day to see how he was doing. There are other places around and hopefully our ‘guy’ won’t need them and hopefully if it came to it we wouldn’t feel we were overcharged

Amy A

So happy we finally have an emergency vet hospital on the North Shore!

Chase Cooper

This place is a cash grab and will tell you that your dog has a million different things and is dying but will refuse to explain anything besides dollar amounts. The doctor was only interested in getting me to sign papers to make sure they got paid. If I was able to give negative stars for my experience I would. I asked repeatedly to explain each charge to Me so I understood what I’m paying for and was given some garbage responses. After I was fed up with these responses. She got mad that I swore about the situation which was not even directed at her and went and talked and laughed about me with the receptionist which I overheard. The level of unprofessionalism in this place was off the charts. To top it all off she brought my dog out and threw the leash in my direction. NO COMPASSION. NO EXPLANATIONS. NO PROFESSIONALISM. If you bring your animal here you are better off LITERALLY anywhere else. I hope this place closes down. Reposting because this was deleted seems like. UPDATE. Took my dog to another vet the quote was almost 5000 dollars less than this place. The diagnosis of mountainside animal hospital was INCORRECT. He is in better care and doing 100 percent better. Never EVER will I come to this animal cemetery again. If anyone EVER asks about this place I will refer them to this review which I will repost periodically if deleted. Have a great day! :)

Summary: Mountainside had poor animal handling skills, over-prescribed medicine and overcharged procedures to make a profit. We were quoted $1200 - $1750 at Mountainside, the same procedure and more at our normal vet cost ~$400. Go to CanWest if it's an emergency, or your normal vet (we love Dr. Natalya at Blueridge) if it can wait. Our cat fell off the balcony and was limping on his hind leg (what we later discovered was a broken femur). We came to Mountainside a few days after it happened as he had not improved at all. After several hours, the vet was unable to perform a physical exam because our cat was so anxious. They said they needed to sedate him to do x-rays and tests which was quoted at $1200 - $1750. Opting to wait until we could go to our normal vet on Monday, we left with no answers, a $150 bill for the appointment, two types of pain killers and an anti-inflammatory. When we went into our normal vet and they could perform most of a physical exam to determine the area of injury, but the swelling would not allow for her to palpate the area. They sedated him and did the necessary x-rays and testing. They also questioned why one of painkillers had been prescribed and told us just to use the other painkiller and anti-inflammatory. Total bill for our visit at Blueridge was about $400 and our cat was much happier when he came out.

The north shore needed a 24/7 animal hospital and we now have a new fully equipped facility. But any successful high end business knows that the quality of its staff and the customer experience must match or exceed the price of the service. On December 23 my 13 year old dog, Benji, was throwing up dark red blood. Of course he needed care immediately and I took him into Mountainside at 6:30a.m. After a quick exam, the vet went to prepare the first estimate which was over $4300. This included hospitalization, IV, blood tests, x-rays. (Any required surgery would be additional.) The vet explained that estimate and then went out to prepare two additional estimates without the full panel of x-rays. The estimate accepted, by then Benji had full blown diarrhea, was $1750 to $2100. I declined the additional testing as I felt treatment would either work or if there was a blockage/bowel perforation, Benji might not successfully survive surgery. I believe the vet, taking note of Benji's age, recommended a DNR authorization for the file but continued to advocate x-rays and ultrasound. Half of the top range was needed as an immediate deposit. I was surprised when the vet, using two wooden spatulas scrapped some of the diarrhea off the floor for a stool sample. While taking this sample, which had been contaminated by footwear and other animals (fortunately sample not needed), he complained "what profession has to do this". Benji was taken into the hospital for further exam and to be put on an IV solution and medication. When the vet hadn't phoned back and I knew his shift was ending I phoned for an update. Since the tests had been completed, (blood testing over $600, blood pressure monitoring $190, IV with one bag of ringers solution $420, IV medication $362) I was told Benji was dehydrated but was responding to treatment. Detailed results of tests not provided. When next vet came on shift I expressed my desire to take Benji home as two 8 hour shifts were at $305 already. With emergency exam fee $173, plus pills and 4 cans of dog food, the bill had already exceeded the top of the estimate, even without staying overnight which had been included with the top estimate. During discharge no information provided other then pill schedule and amount of canned dog food. Did not see a vet other then during initial intake and only had two phone conversations, of a few minutes each. Less than three weeks later my dog started throwing up again. If I took him back to Mountainside, the tests, IV, medication would all be repeated plus x-rays needed and a probable estimate over $4300). My credit card didn't have enough space with the original $2200 to have another $4300 added. So I did my best to look after him at home (weekend) not knowing whether he would recover or pass away at home in my arms. I did not know whether the second incident was a continuation of a medical problem not discussed when he was in the first time or whether it was caused by insufficient discharge information. Benji has recovered and is now doing well. When my regular vet hadn't received Benji's records I went to Mountainside to get a copy. When I commented none of the results had been discussed with me and I would have to google the various tests, the clerical person suggested I contact my vet to explain the results. I felt they had been paid to do the tests and should have taken the time to review them with me. When I commented on the lack of communication throughout the hospitalization, I was told my concerns would be passed on to management. When I posted a Yelp review (my senior age showing) there was still no response from management. In other customer postings, management takes issue with social media being used for complaints. Perhaps it is was the only way. Some owners chastised for not having pet insurance to cover the high cost of pet care but Benji was already 4-5 years old, in very poor health and had come from two previous homes where he hadn't been cared for. Pet insurance was not an option. Mountainside did not meet or exceed my expectations.

Horrible overpriced service. Will never deal with this establishment ever again.

If you want actual care for your animal (especially if it is more advanced in age), take it elsewhere. We ended up having to put our beloved pet down (at another facility) less than 24 hours after he was released back to our care from this hospital with medication and a specific diet that proved useless and after spending thousands of dollars on all sorts of tests, scans, etc. Our pet did not have to go through all of that and an additional close to 24 hours of pain and suffering. If you care about your pet, find some other place. It seems to be strictly business here with your pet being a revenue stream. PS: They are also clearly petty. Even in their message of condolences noted below, they make sure everyone knows that one family has left two negative reviews. I maintain that causing the death of a pet hurts all members of a family and in different ways so it's not one negative review per family! I'm entitled to mine.

So happy to have this wonderful new facility on the North Shore. The friendliness and level of professionalism amongst the staff is impressive!

Dr. Kumamoto saved our dog’s life. He had aspiration pneumonia. She did all of the right procedures and with oxygen our French Bulldog is on his way to a full recovery. Dr. Kumamoto is caring, knowledgeable, and very sensitive with both the pet and their owners. I highly recommend Mountainside Animal Hospital! THANK YOU!

I was so impressed by the service I received at Mountainside, they made one of the most difficult moments as comfortable as possible. When I arrived at 4am with my dog (Rocky) we were attended to promptly and with great concern. I unfortunately had to say goodbye that morning, but I at least felt like everyone who was helping Rocky truly cared for him and loved animals. Everyone was so compassionate and made me feel less alone. On top of that, a few days after I received a card in the mail from the staff offering their condolences. It was filled with kind, sincerely written messages and it really warmed my heart to receive. Rocky wasn't even a regular patient there - I had never taken him before that morning, and we were only there for an hour or so. They went above and beyond and I can't thank them enough for caring about my dog and I during his last moments as much as they did. I will definitely be bringing all of my pets here for their Vet needs from now on.

Leo (my dog) and I have visited this hospital twice. Both times were great. Friendly, helpful, responsive and polite staff. The facility is great. They never rushed into examination, and made sure that my dog was not stressed. They examined him on the floor and didn't even ask me to put him on the table when they noticed that my dog was stressed. They take care of the insurance claims and every-time that I wanted a document through email they were very quick at responding. Overall I never noticed anything bad about this facility and its staff. I remember reading some reviews complaining about the price. Let's try to be reasonable and take responsibility for our actions. Emergency and hospitalization fees are high everywhere, and that is what insurance is for. Therefore, if you're animal were not insured at the time of sickness, and you faced a big bill then that is only on you. Also If you think that a high quality facility that runs 24/7 was going to charge you the same amount that you pay at your regular vet that was closed, then you lack common sense.

I came here tonight with my chihuahua and the staff was very efficient and understanding. The veterinary doctor was amazing!

This is by far the WORST animal hospital I have ever been to. I would rate it 0 if I could. All they care about is the money and not your pet. They treat both you and your pet in a very disgusting manner, and force treatments you dont want on you, and if you refuse the suggested treatment they threaten to put down your dog. My normal vet was not in town and so I was forced to go here cuz my dog was not feeling well and after Seeing how rude they were, I contacted my vets personal line in which I was told to take my dog somewhere else. When settling the bill they wanted to charge me addtionaly for a “referal” fee, I told them that im not paying for a referal as my OWN vet referred me. The receptionist was confused and after contacting the other animal hospital I was getting transferred to they told me you dont need to pay for a referral fee in which they then waved it. All they want to do is to make more money. PLEASE dont take your pets here, and if you do make sure you get a second opinion.

Nothing but excitement for North and West Vancouver to have this animal hospital available to all the furry members of our families. I hope to never have to use it, but when I do I know that we will be well taken care of. Stopped in to check it out, and the staff were so wonderful and friendly. The facility is immaculate and clean.

I brought my rabbit in with head tilt on a Sunday afternoon when my regular vet was closed. She was prescribed 28 days of anti-parasitic meds to end this Sunday. Wednesday night I barely had enough to give her the dose so I phoned to ask for a top up of four day's worth. I was told the order would go through and Dr. Homer would be in early Thursday morning. I phoned this morning around 10 am to follow up. I had to give all my details a second time and was told Dr. Homer wasn't in yet but she would put the order through. She expected him around noon. I phoned around 4 pm as a reminder that I would be needing her meds for her evening dose and I was told she would put a rush on it. I said I've been trying to consistently dose her around 5:30. By 6 pm I hadn't heard anything so I drove to the hospital and phoned. Everything is on lockdown because of the pandemic. I was put on hold and when the staff member returned she told me they were too busy to fill my prescription. I told her I was sitting in the parking lot and it was .81ml of meds. It would take seconds. She told me prescription refills generally require 24 hours notice. I was annoyed to have to point out I had in fact phoned 24 hours ago. So even though I had given them 24 hours notice and was currently overdue to give my rabbit her meds and even though I was currently waiting in their parking lot and needed less than a 1/4 tsp of meds and even though I was obviously not initially given enough to cover the course of 28 days, I was sent away empty handed and told they would hopefully be able to fill my prescription later tonight. Well it's now almost midnight and my rabbit with head tilt will not have meds until at least tomorrow afternoon when I drive 2 hours roundtrip to my regular vet during a pandemic when I'm supposed to stay home as much as possible. Thanks for absolutely nothing. A lot of reviews on here claim this hospital is money first and animals second. I would have to agree. Not much money would be made from less than 1 ml of meds so we were tossed aside. Never returning and never recommending to friends.

Mountainside Animal Hospital deserves more than five stars. Having outstanding service form the front desk receptionists, the vet tech, and veterinarian himself is a complete rarity. Everyone is so polite and respectful, they charge a fantastic rate and did not overprescribe medications like many of these reviews say. Dr. Davidson called me the next morning like he said he would to make sure my dog was okay. I recommend this hospital to everyone :)

We brought our dog here for an allergic reaction in the middle of the night. We called from home and were seen in 20 min. The cost of the visit (including vet, vet tech, and receptionist), two intramuscular injections (steroid and benadryl) and two oral medications to take home was about $290. We thought it was totally fair and we received fast and great service. Everyone was lovely. Thanks for being there at 3am!

I questioned an $85 “referral fee” and was told it is a standard fee that all vets charge; so I paid. I later learned that our family vet would not have charged us. When I called Mountainside they said, “…everyone charges this fee…you won’t get a refund.” I then found out after speaking with several clinics and organizations that not every vet charges a “referral fee” and that they had never seen a referral fee that high. During one phone call Mountainside defended their actions by saying “…we’re transparent…other veterinarians bury their fees in other costs.” That’s not true; the veterinarian businesses we deal with are ethical. Besides, Mountainside failed to be transparent by not informing me that fees vary and perhaps I won’t be charged elsewhere. The money is not the issue; we have pet insurance, and the means to pay. What is at issue is being misled and taken advantage of during a vulnerable time. I made efforts to discuss and resolve the issue; after several discussions: no resolution, no refund. As an aside, the one-star positive are the receptionists and support staff who were friendly and courteous. ***In response to your reply, I questioned the fee several times; it was feasible to have been honest and transparent in simply saying something to the effect of "...fees vary and perhaps check with your family vet to see if they're cheaper or try another place ...". What had been said to me, repeatedly, is that the fee is a standard charge. It was also said several times that everyone charges the fee; and, then later in conversations you said..."how should I know what others charge...". What was communicated was incorrect and misleading. As a start-up having opened in fall 2018, and as the experienced owner of the facility, at this stage of establishment and growth, the fundamentals of respectfully communicating with clients, addressing client questions and concerns with integrity, and finding a win-win solution would have been appreciated by our family, and also perhaps by those who've also encountered problems as described via Google reviews.

I wish I had read the reviews here before I went in! As all the reviews, I was given a range from $1800-$2200, which I declined. I went to my regular vet the next day, paid $65 and my dog was well. Go here if you have a serious emergency and willing to shell out cash, if not, I would wait out the emergency and go see your regular vet.

My daughter's 1 1/2 year old Ragdoll ingested string which we discovered on a Saturday night. Even though he had vomited some out and pooped out more, he was not acting normal. I took him in around 10:00 that evening and was so thankful that we did. Turned out that he still had a metre long piece wrapped up in his stomach and intestine and he required emergency surgery. Our regular vet is closed on Sundays and the damage would have been much more significant, if not deadly, had we waited that long. The surgery went flawlessly and he is once again his happy, floppy self. Yes, Mountainside is expensive but running an emergency clinic IS expensive. I was grateful to have them there on the North Shore when I needed them. I would use them for pet emergencies in the future without any hesitation. Thank you to Mountainside Animal Hospital, your vets and all the staff for taking such great care of "Lightning Bolt"!

Hands down this is the most caring and sensitive practice I have ever attended in my 40+ years of pet companionship. We are incredibly blessed in this country to have MSP for our human needs, a trip to a Vet can be a shocking reminder at just how costly medical care & training can be. Our aging dog was treated with the utmost care and respect over the last 2 years, as were we when the toughest of decisions had to be made. No guilt, no pressure for endless tests and procedures, just a supportive understanding from one group of pet lovers to another. Thank you Mountainside Animal Hospital!

I’m so grateful for the staff at Mountainside, especially Dr. Homer. I had to bring my senior kitty in when he suffered a medical emergency. Dr. Homer and the staff were kind and supportive throughout the whole ordeal. I couldn’t recommend them more.

They do charge double unless it is in business hours. I am lucky to have gotten out with only the mandatory exam fee of $180. The 1.5cm cut in my dogs leg would have cost me $650-$800(per their quote)They did nothing for my dog. Made me wait 1.5 hours and I still have to go visit my vet in business hours. Don’t go here unless it is an emergency. You will pay through the nose. If you are going to charge double it is only fair to let the customer know before hand. **ammendment on the next business day. The total bill from my vet at Caulfeild was $305.55. This included exam, cleaning of the wound, five stitches, medicine and antibiotics. In and out the door in 20minutes. I have offered a review of them as well. My Border Collie is recovering well from this minor mishap with a sharp piece of beach glass.

This animal hospital is an extremely dangerous place to bring your pets. I took my dog there after she broke a leg and she had to get surgery done at this hospital the following week. We were told this was a very common break and very simple surgery. The day of her surgery we never received any calls (like we were told we would) from the surgeon or the staff about how our dog was doing after surgery. After I called twice for an update a vet tech finally called me and told me that my dog (for an unknown reason) went into respiratory distress when coming off of the anesthesia. They had to give her oxygen and she continued to have respiratory distress epodes TWO days following this surgery. We were never told what the possible reasons could have been as to why this happened we were just told it was unknown. They then classified my dog as a "high risk" when having any anesthesia. Months later we had to get her spayed (by our regular vet, NOT at this animal hospital) which requires anesthesia and there were absolutely zero problems. I strongly feel the issues that came with her surgery at Mountainside Animal Hospital may have been caused by errors made by staff. I strongly recommend to get a second opinion by a different animal hospital before committing to treatment at this hospital.

Mountainside offers excellent care for pets.

Shania Supernault

They were super nice and acted like they cared about my dog when he needed stitches and once I told them I couldn't afford the outrageous price their whole attitude changed, they were very rude and gave attitude.

Darian Nyuli

Was rude when I brought my cat in. Also didn't even do all the testing to catch what was wrong with my cat and it ended up getting worse. Did less then the bare minimum. they had her for 6 hours and after 500 dollars I still had to bring her back to my regular vet for proper testing and medication to figure out what she has. Save your money and get a better vet, one that cares more about the pet then the money.
