I attend this place as a patient. The staff I've met here have all been very good. It's part of the public health service so yep, brutal wait lists and as always you need to be ready to advocate for yourself - and that's just not fair. But that's a budget problem that the staff there cannot solve.

Dr. Lim is the only reason vancouver is still alive!

Totally useless - do not expect any serious help from this place. Difficult to reach them to book appt. they get your phn number wrong even when you call to update it, quote you the wrong appt time, long wait to see psychiatrist, psych will only see you for 30min and reccomends meds and silly group therapy sessions before getting rid of you. meds can help but therapy is important too, if you want help get your doctor to refer you directly to a north shore psychiatrist outside hope center often it is covered by government if done this way, unfortunately most psychiatrists are booking way ahead in future or not accepting new clients if you want free services.

If you find yourself getting nowhere with the services here, invest in private counselling. We put our faith in the system and they failed us; my mother ended up taking her life after being turned away; saying there’s nothing they can do for her on multiple occasions. She was horrified of this place; the counselling lacks any humanity and the counsellors and doctors speak to you like robots.

I spent a year and half wasting my time here every week and they don't even have the records and apparently I have no diagnosis. What? Hilarious how bad they are. They don't help, they can't file paperwork, and if you have a complicated diagnosis, don't even walk into that godforsaken building. They cannot help you unless you are a textbook case. I'm honestly disgusted by how badly this place functions. I will never forget being told to never have children because I am such an awful person, I would only ruin them in my assessment.

So my girlfriend who tried to get help through The HOpe centre. After some time of waiting she got a "Mental Health Therapist" by the name of Zacariah Finley, Who at first when meeting him, she said he was sympathetic, caring, "seemed like he really wanted to help me" kind of guy, He even offered her another institution he thought would actually be better and said he would call the next day for a check up. About a week later the call was never received, we though "oh maybe just some miss communication" but when she called Zac he seemed very dismissive, trying to get her off the phone, and seemed as if he just wanted her to end the call. Thats pretty much denying someone help they truly need. Its been 5 months and still no help has been given or follow ups at all. I'm surprised that they haven't called back, I'd imagine that my Girlfriends mental health would be taken more seriously and not as some joke.

No help whatsoever. The most they do is direct you to another place altogether.

I would honestly give this place 0 stars if I could. I was referred six times in two years and only got a call on the 6th attempt,. Five of those were from my family doctor, and one came from an ER doctor who asked me whether being suicidally depressed is just my personality. Then I finally saw a psychiatrist who clearly didn't take me seriously but said he'd refer me to an outpatient program they have regardless. Three months later? Nothing. A lot of money was spent making it look good and hyping it up but it's just as inaccessible as everything else mental health-related in Vancouver.

Dave Siklos

Absolute rubbish, no help whatsoever. All they do is recite points from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) books. Save yourself time and get yourself one of those books from the library and you'll get as much help as they offer. Their primary goal is to get people in their system and then out again as quickly as possible, probably to get money from government health programs.

I am extremely not pleased with the Hope Centre. Although I already have a psychiatrist, I explained that I cannot afford private therapy, and I was hoping to get involved in the centre, I have tried to get to their services twice and they have turned me away (without any references either) BOTH times, due to the simple fact that I already have a psychiatrist. I, personally, think this is unacceptable. Especially when someone, like myself, with mental health issues are looking for help yet they refuse to give it or give advice on elsewhere to go. I am not pleased at all. I never right reviews on anything, but because they have done this to me, i am furiated and I feel others should know the hope centres incompentancy.

the wait list is brutal, especially for psychiatrists. but many of the people I've seen here are great.

Geoff Johnston

Should be called the Hopeless centre.

I had an amazing doctor from middle east. Very warm heart with care and pure love. Bit displeasing I want to release faster. Knowing patients like to help less fortunate patients reminds I was like them biginning of my h.addmissions. They are actually makes them better because their any kind of genuine unconditional love, I think I did witnessed some. I'm Vancouverian for so many yrs. Getting to know N.V. people was good. I felt people are bit judgemental strangers easily but I know they mean all good intentions. Moving forward for a better creation each day. Renewing good person from my past. Anyone I offended apologized to them. Wish all get better and all the best. Grazia!

My roommate attempted suicide and after 5 hospital visits in 6 months they told her that she was “having a bad day” and that they would not admit or even help her... there is no hope for psychiatric assistance in North Vancouver

Kevin Bouwsema

The nurses and patients were all really nice but the social worker that I had did not advocate for me and lied about how they were trying to “help” me and rather help my ex instead. My doctor was nice enough but when asked for a letter that he offered to write for me I was just ignored for months and then told he won’t write it for me anymore.

Rowan Dickson

I was nervous going into the appointment due to all the low ratings but was pleasantly surprised. Dr. Iro was very professional and kind. I would give 5 stars but I never got the zoom link and a front desk attendant hung up on me mid sentence when I was double checking my appointment date which was kinda rude.

Harry Potter

Most of the staff here are horrible. They make jokes at the patients expense. Emergency services is absolutely the worst group of people I have ever encountered. No one who is thinking straight would ever consider these people 'helpful' in any way. Unless you enjoy psychological games and bullying I would avoid these people.

Fred Connors

Stay away from emergency services - they are aggressive and will screw you up. They don't listen and have no sympathy of any kind. Word to the wise. They always say on the phone messages to call emergency if you are experiencing a crisis but the reality is so different from what they claim, it will only make things worse. Just go to a GP

Paul H.

Should be called the Hopeless Center instead. Management and staff are utterly incompetent. If only they spent as much money on the quality of service as they did on the building. But hey, at least it looks nice.

I was discouraged from seeking any help and made to feel it is my fault that things are not working well in my life. No point in going there unless you want to feel hopeless.

Andrew W

Stay far away! If you are having mental health problems please ask your doctor to send you to a psychiatrist in the community. They will screw your life up even more than it is. AVOID Dr. Iro! He is from Nigeria and his English is almost impossible to understand. I don’t understand how he is acredited in Canada. He is so uncaring and cold and all he cares about is payday $$$. Also AVOID GILL WALKER who is an occupational therapist. She is a condescending woman who’s only agenda is to better herself and feel above her clients. If you are looking for a job... she will ask you why getting paid more $ matters to you?! As in why getting paid $11 could be better than $40 an hour??? She starts to shake and/or get edgy when she gets annoyed. Please avoid her like the plague and run!
