NEVER EVER COME TO MICHAEL GARRON HOSPITAL IN A LIFE-DEATH SITUATION. I was rushed here at 12midnight with a severe pain in my right abdomen and had to wait for 6hrs just to see a doctor with his 5-minute fast talk. Really? This “EMERGENCY ROOM” is worse than waiting in a walk-in clinic. Also, the nurses here lack empathy, have ZERO common sense, and are not doing their delegated tasks. After my 4th hour of wait in the waiting area, I went to the nurses’ station and begged if there’s anyone who could check what’s wrong with my condition because my right-abdomen has been hurting really bad since I came. I cried in pain in front of 5 nurses and they just told me, “you have to wait for the doctor”, and “we cant do anything about it because there are also other patients waiting”. These nurses clearly have NO idea what to do at all and the worst part is, I saw a nurse ON-DUTY only browsing at amazon on the hospital’s computer. I asked for one dose of pain-killer since that was the only remedy I can think of. When I finally got a bed after 5hrs in the waiting area, I had gone loose because of the pain and the advil I took wasn’t helping. I kicked the wall 5-times because of the pain and frustration, then FINALLY! one nurse came in not to check how i was feeling, but to tell me not to do it again because she got scared. She left immediately after saying it while I was crying. This saddened me because other people could be in a lot of pain or dying, but that nurse’s main concern was what she was feeling; not me, the patient who’s been waiting for 5hrs in pain. I felt really helpless that time. They could’ve done better by checking the patients in the waiting area that needs immediate medical assistance while the doctor is busy checking other patients. This hospital needs a better management! Very very poor experience ???????? P.S. I waited extra time at Shoppers pharmacy (Woodbine and O’Connor) because the doctor didn’t write his name or his signature on the prescription. Since the pharmacist can’t just give any medication without the doctor’s name, she neeeded to call the hospital and NO ONE answered the phone. Thankfully the pharmacist is really smart and compassionate!!!
I broke my femur and got sent to this hospital. They took care of me so well! They did so many x Ray's which were awful because a broken femur and moving from bed to bed don't go well together.. well anyways, I was having my operation 24 hours after arriving, and left the hospital in 6 days.
6 hours waiting in emergency, if you want to die go here.
I've seen the doctors here for years. I asked to have my medical records switched to genderless, and they said it could only be M, F, or U. I asked for U and they refused, citing the fact that my medical records under the Ministry of Health are F. I'd asked at Service Ontario about it previously and they couldn't remove it. This is a transphobic/trans-exclusionary practice and I'm quite livid. Don't go here if you're a trans person!
Was very displeased by the quality of the service. with the exception to very few staff members, many of them were grumpy or did mistakes.
Staff on breaks outside.. bully visitors and laugh at people as they sit on the property.. I witnessed it myself... Truly unprofessional and ridiculous..
While I was a patent there, 2 time's & both for major Organ illness, Drs and staff, saved my life ???? Very Thankful
Came here after a motorcycle crash at 5:30, it's now 11:34 and I have only been transferred from waiting room to waiting room. Avoid this place at all costs if you seek real medical attention.
My uncle died in this awful hospital on Monday. Most likely of a massive heart attack that he had been fighting for a week. They left him in there with no medication given, no tests...until he went in to code blue status. And he died. Thank you for your lack of care. This is not the first time. Last year he was there, they gave him a medication that he was allergic to and out him in cardiac arrest as well. But this time they got him. Retraining and reeducation or simply shut this place down!
Gone here more than a couple of times and lets just say if your going in for a walk in check up just expect to wait around 3hrs minimum. This hospital is disgusting its unhygienic, the staff aren't friendly an seem that they just don't wanna be working there. Always expect to go on a rabbit chase for what ever reason your purpose is for coming, if you're suicidal or having a panic attack don't expect the staff to come to help you it really seems like this place is just open for the employees to make money not to help. What a joke but they always get the last laugh cause people keep coming- hell even I'm going to them cause I can't find any other place that is open right now... fml oh and btw this place is sketchy af
So much waiting, no clue of how long you have to wait before you can actually see the doctor.
It is with concern that I write to you regarding this matter because I could not find a contact e-mail on your website. On the adolescents mental health unit, there is a lack of safety precautions taken. I've had a loved one continue to self harm by using things like the metal piece at the end of the pencils, and even after she was caught she still had access to these pencils. Also the strings in gowns are a concern for more obvious reasons. I fear that she or other patients may not always get caught in time...especially since only one bedroom has a camera. On a more positive note, I hear the staff are nice!
I had a cut in my leg a few weeks ago, like to my bone, and mind you I am in severe pain, and they sloppyly done the stitching and had to re-do the stitching 5 times. Horrible hospital. They were fast through
Very professional and friendly. They really cared when I was there.
First experience was taking an unresponsive infant burning up with a fever to the emergency room. I ended up calling 911 from the triage in order to get care or to be taken to a real hospital. That made the rude triage nurse enraged about being called on by emergency dispatch. They kicked me out of the hospital and wouldn't let me into the room where my wife was with my baby. Second experience was with a spontaneous collapsed lung. None of my complaints were taken seriously, the pain was intense and something that could have easily been treated with same day discharge had I been given care in the first 5 hours of my 10 hour wait subsequently required a seven day stay and a near death experience. This hospital was once controlled by the Province, although I'm not sure if it was due to incompetence or gross incompetence. Absolute third world like place, I imagine care in Haiti is a little better these days in their public hospitals. I will take my chances and drive to University Ave, Sunnybrook or Hamilton before ever stepping foot in there again.
Love this hospital. People complaining about the waiting time don't know the perspective of the staff they are trying their hardest!!
I’ve had a number of Covid tests at this clinic and the staff works efficiently and safely. I’ve been very impressed.
With my dad @ TEGH, today is the left eye the rt eye has healed very well. Thank you
I was here yesterday at Emergency and although the drs were good and some nurses were friendly, this was a totally disorganized and chaotic experience. I was there for 6 hours and had to keep checking up on if I'd be seen, if the results were in and I initially was put in a room with another man while being admitted. They don't have enough staff and it shows. Many people asking to be discharged because they were waiting too long and weren't being seen. Maybe people moaning, elderly waiting in beds, and a high police presence. Totally did not feel like Canada. The nurse said to. A little compassion can go a long way, the staff/nurses seemed so burned out. Either way I thank them for their services.
Two days ago I had a surgery in this hospital. I just wanna thank the staff for being the sweetest people I have ever met and for making this experience easy and smoothly during the rough time of COVID-19. ???? ppatients parking is $27 per day ???? you will be given a new mask upon arriving the receptionist ???? your family can wait for you in the cafeteria on the fourth floor or in the lobby in the ground floor
Happy to call Michael Garron Hospital my community hospital, especially proud of the efficiency, quality care and empathy of all doctors and nurses at their Emergency Department. Team of caring professionals.
Even though we came in as emergency, it took us about 8:30 hours to be seen by a doctor. I don’t understand the “emergency” part.
I disagree for just 2.8 stars too. Every staffs are kind and comfortable.
Received excellent care from all staff in admitting to surgery and recovery to discharge. Thankful.
I gave birth to my baby boy at this hospital and I only have great things to say. The triage and maternity departments were amazing, the staff very friendly, kind and available to answer any questions. I felt safe and well taken care of. Same for my baby. I went back to this hospital twice and used the emergency once for myself and once for my baby. Again great experience. The baby emergency is top notch with friendly staff, lots of toys and amazing Morgan who puts a smile on every kid.
It's kind of like a mcdonalds in their
Not a review but a heads up.Before coming here I saw on here no booking required for covid test but you do need an appointment. So book an appointment the day before you want to get tested
Dr. Michael Warner completely misdiagnosed my son for having the pandemic virus because he was clearly motivated by something else. He didn't even test or think twice that maybe it was just a really bad cold. And that's what is was. It went away after 3 days. We went home, had the at home saliva test and results came back negative. Now I see the hospital's top doctor on television issuing dire warnings about the ongoing waves. The hospital should be ashamed to have a doctor motivated by something so sinister. He needs to stop misdiagnosing to meet the objectives of whomever he answers to as the hospital.
Ridiculous that the water fountain is turned off but the Pepsi dispenser conveniently placed 20m away has nice cold Aquafina available for $3.75 (4 if using debit)
Hi, one of the worst emergency hospital in Canada. My wife is pregnent with stomach pain and crying, after 4 hours they come and take the blood and after 3hours they did another test. Nothing happen and go back to home. I don’t recommend to take patients here. Help yourself. Nurse also behaves worst. Thank you
The worse hospital I ever experienced. Worse nurses just worse with zero star.
The nurse was replying to me with “mhmm” when we asked how much longer.. Weber been waiting for 5 hour. Terrible experience. Terrible staff they only care about finishing their shifts.
This place doesn't even deserve a 1. I have been waiting 7 hours just to see a doctor!!! The worst experience ever - if you are sick do not go here !
The only time you get any help at this hospital is if you contact management. Our sister has been at this hospital for a month now. The ICU staff as most ICU's are fairly helpful..Cindy, Fergus, Heidi and another Male nurse, George?? and Dr. Chan, Are amazing..the rest, including a Dr. Warner have absolutely no clue how to deal with family and come across as unfeeling and dismissive. Our sister has now been moved to a ward. Patient care is totally substandard. The hospital itself is old and needs major renos to rooms..not just the obvious hallways. Our experience with two separate wards is frustrating and quite disturbing.
My wife was kicked out of the hospital a day early against her surgeons instructions by the hospital floor manager after major surgery. The usual BS excuse. Covid When we complained the floor manager said he decides who stays in the hospital not the surgeon. Great attitude. Might see a lawyer.
The worst hospital I've ever been to. The one star is only because of the nurse who was super nice to me
"Very bad experience with some office staff in the hospital!!
My grandma was diagnosed with lung cancer at this hospital approximately 5.5 years ago. The hospital from detection to surgery was less than one month. The care from the beginning to end has been amazing. Thank you to all the staff at the hospital and of course Dr. Safieddine
This WORST hospital I have been to ever. and sadly i live right next to it and have had the pleasure of staying there 4 times in my life. I have been in the cheapest Bangkok hostels, and they have better, cleaner and nicer service than this place!!!
Avoid this hospital if possible. The staff are of very little help to you if you do go in with an issue. If you happen to have a loved one in the hospital here- good luck on being able to speak to anybody or see what’s going on with them. Understaffed and stressed environment. We can do better than this.
We live in the neighbourhood and just welcomed a new baby in their family birthing centre. Such amazing experience with the compassionate team, up to date equipment and quality of care... highly recommend
Bad service and never provide good care
The nurse at Toronto East General was fired for abusing me during childbirth. I waited in the waiting maternity area for 6 hours and refused to bring me into the delivery area. I screamed in pain for hours, and she kept letting other women ahead of me. The nurse, while checking how many centimetres I was, intentionally pinched my insides and poked me with a metal object. The nurse then rips up my chart when she was questioned. My husband demanded to see a doctor, and the nurse would not page him. In the end, another nurse came to my rescue. This was Victoria Day weekend 2010 and had little staff. The receptionist told me that the nurse had done this before and wanted to deliver the baby. My daughter had no chart and no heartbeat monitor during these 6 hours. We never knew if my daughter was in distress during birth or had oxygen. I don't care if the hospital changed its name. My daughter suffered permanent disabilities because of this nurse. My daughter is non-verbal and is now global development delayed.
If your thinking of going here please don’t. I have been sick a lot in my life so I have experience with a variety of hospitals and this is BY FAR the worst. First thing you should know is that this is a teaching hospital, basically meaning that a lot of the “doctors” there have no idea what their doing. I went in to this hospital by ambulance with an extremely high fever and headache. They did a variety of tests trying to figure out what I had. One of the tests was a spinal tap which can be extremely dangerous and even lead to paralysis if done incorrectly. The “doctors” had me lay on my side while they were pushing the needle in and out of my spine. They said I wouldn’t be able to feel anything but when they put it in I was in agony. Finally my mom had to get one of the nurses to get an actual doctor, and turns out they were doing it wrong the entire time. I was in extreme pain for the next week because they had done damage to my lower back. On top of that while I was in the hospital one of the nurses incorrectly read my Immunology report and told my mom that I probably had polio AND THEN JUST LEFT. Everyone was apparently on break for the entire weekend so there was no one on call or anywhere in the building that could help us. My mom literally thought I was dying of polio because the nurse said she was a bad mother and didn’t get me vaccinated when I was a baby WHEN SHE DID. The staff there are absolutely horrible, the facilities are ill equipped and on top of that non of them have any idea what their doing.
Had excellent pre and, post op care for breast surgery but have had unpleasant experience in ER in the past understaffed ????
I have had to go to emergency here twice. I will list both experiences below. 1- First time around 4 AM with chest pain, the initial checkup was quick, they did an ECG and took blood within 10 minutes after arrival. Then we waited one hour and were called in for another ECG, after which we were sent to the green zone, where we spent 4 hours waiting! every one who came after me into the green zone was attended to because the complained of waiting. I tried to be more civil and was ignored, until I did what others were doing and then was eventually visited by a doctor, who asked for another ECG and then left, I waited another hour before asking for to doctor and was sent to yellow zone because the doctor had forgotten about it! waited there an hour and had to ask for the doctor again before they'd let him tell me that I can go home - All that time that I occupied hospital resources could have been spent on some one who was in dire need had they just let me see the doctor quickly. The followup by the heart clinic however was great. Dr Levitt gave me detailed attention in three followup visits and was very kind. Thumbs up to him! Second time I had to bring some one with a fracture to the emergency; we were sent to the yellow zone and again, every one who came there after us were looked at before us because they kept complaining, once I followed suit ( after waiting for 3.5 hours) we were looked at too, the doctor asked the nurse to attend to the fracture - which to me was odd, but may be that's how its done everywhere, bottom line is i'll be looking at other hospitals for service next time if possible
Different name, same function. Doctors and Nurses will call you in to send you back out into the waiting room, they do not have the best security nor the appropriate approach to patients. No one communicates with each other, I had spoke to three doctors in one night before I had eavesdropped into their discussion about facebook posts. You will not be cared for in this faculty, especially in Emergency.
The nurses and workers there are pretty friendly ,wait time like other hospitals are hit and miss.Sometimes 10 minutes wait other times 3 hours. The hospital though looks and feels old.In need of a refreshing.Parking is a nightmare after 9:00am unless you want to pay the crazy high parking rates at the lots.Street parking is at a preminum.
Amazing staff, registration was great, all nurses and docs were caring
TEGH was assigned to us as we live in the neighborhood called the hospital maternity department on 14 oct around midnight, nurse said not rooms available at all. Called her agin said I am covered for semi private room through my coverage decline me completely and said I would have to call Scarborough Grace hospital to get my wife a bed over their. Felt like she was really getting agitated and did not wanted to deal with us. Has to be some sort of arrangement near to the hospital as we are so close but instead have to go to Scarborough grace hospital which is far for us to reach especially in this crucial time.
Medical staff are outstanding. However the wait times are horrible. ENT outpatient clinic is consistently a 2-3 hrs wait. I understand the challenge but wait times for appointments should never exceed 90 minutes. My family has started going to walk-in clinics or other hospitals if triaged into the Green zone at emergency (5hr waits are the norm). If the walk-in sends us back with a note we usually only wait an hour. Birthing experience with midwife was great with excellent facility. This place has a bad reputation (homeless man I know has note in wallet to avoid) but is improving. Hope they can fix the capacity issues...
Zero stars from me! If you want to LIVE, do not attend this hospital! The worst hospital in all of Toronto! If you want to be treated with dignity & respect GO somewhere else! I never never once encountered a friendly staff at Michael Garron, all are rude & dont even seem interested in treating patients.
I despise TEGH/Michael Garron Hospital. Maternity Ward is a hell hole. Triage nurse was the least compassionate. Resident Anesthesiologist messed me up while trying to give me an epidural. Waited for another 2 hours to see the Head Anesthesiologist, but it was too late, I was fully dilated. In the meantime, my nurse went a break and the one covering for her was unresponsive when I was asking for help in managing my pain. She was playing Candy Crush on her phone. The OB didn't have time for me but she apparently did to get her name on my baby's birth certificate. Thank you Dr. Chan. My experience at the ER was a disaster, too. Went in at 2 weeks postpartum with a 40 C fever (postpartum infection). After a 4-hour wait in stirrups, I was told than the Gynie was actually not available to see me. So they sent me home with Tylenol while I needed antibiotics. These are the reasons why I despise TEGH/Michael Garron Hospital.
Aunt went in because she fell. Unfortunately her heart was not strong enough and she passed. The week she was there the palliative care unit was great to her. Very caring. Thanks .
Called an ambulance a few years ago (Back when it was still Toronto East General) and paid off the fee immediately afterwards; The hospital apparently forgot about it and hounded me with a collection agency for 2 years afterwards. When I finally made the connection and followed up on it, I faxed them the receipt for the fee, they fixed it on their end and backed off. Why was all of that necessary? Instead of contacting me, someone made the decision to send a collection agency after me who kept leaving me threatening voice mails that were too vague to understand who send them.
Everything was fine except the elevator to my doctor's office on the 3rd floor was not working!
Nice, friendly and kind staff makes it great for kids
The overall staff was satisfactory and quite pleasant, but the main doctor was unpleasant, kind of rude, made us wait 3 hours for not even a full 20 minutes of his time and didn't bother at times to even listen. After another 2 hour long wait, he came back, continued not to listen and then waltzed off leaving us in doubt, no answers and feeling even sicker than when we came to the hospital. Overall and half and half experience with the hospital, but the prominent amount of cut paramedics-male and female-made up for a tiny portion of being sick, even if it was just a little smile.
They were polite but still waited over 3 hrs. Why is a 3 hr wait considered acceptable???
My baby born there 2 weeks ago and we're there for two days. All team that was with me on my C-section was amazing. They make my special time perfect, I will never forget it. After my C-section all nurses that assisted me they were so kind, especially the nurse Christine Pryce. I just want to say thank you for all member of maternity team at Michael Garron hospital.
Emergencies have waiting times, however the experience at Toronto East General was stellar with coordination, care, response time and support to young children. The professional team was attentive with kindness.
I came in to the "emergency department" at 12:30 . I left at 9:30 . the whole time i saw the doctor only one time around 5:00 . I even left the hospital without knowing what was the problem because at 9:30 they decided it is better to get a new appointment. the work flow is the worst thing I have ever seen. everyone there is soooooo slow
Arrived here for the covid-19 test centre. Great staff, very organised and helpful, not crowded.
Professional, excellent service provider unlike previously, now services have changed.
Very long waiting time. Worst service & some rude nurses.
A few excellent doctors. Others should have more training or retire. I had excellent care on two occasions, at the Plastic Surgery where I had a hand surgery to fix a skiers thumb and at the Lung Clinic. However I cannot recommend the Emergency Room and the Fracture Clinic. Last Tuesday night the doctor didn't give me any diagnostic nor advice until I questioned him about my pain in the rotator cuff - injured during a fall. He was just dismissing me after looking at the x ray and saying that it was nothing and no bones were bronc. He didn't check my pain level or did a physical exam. He just looked briefly from a distance to my range of motion, Five days later my pain worsened and i cannot sleep at all. And the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery advised that some fractures might nit show in regular x-rays. I work in the downtown hospitals in Toronto and never witnessed such a bad care and lack of compassion. Maybe it is about time for the mentioned doctor to retire and open space for young and compassionate doctors. It is not ageism. It is clear that he's tired of seeing patients. Thus, endangering patients.
Called to book an appointment to visit my mother who had multiple strokes. There is no visitation between 2pm-4pm. I understand that me switching times from 4pm to 1pm back to 4pm may have been frustrating but that gives NO justification what so ever to call me a “fucking idiot” before abruptly hanging up the phone. Ridiculously unacceptable, disrespectful and infuriating. Why would that be anywhere near something to say to someone going to visit a loved one… the nurse should be FIRED.
Just had my baby yesterday at Michael garron hospital and I couldn’t be happier with my experience with the extremely attentive nurses from labour and delivery, postpartum and nicu were all amazing. I seriously could not have survived my baby’s birth without the help and wise advise of the nurses. The doctors at this hospital are very caring and make sure that you understand every step of the way what the treatment will be. My delivery turned into an unplanned c section and if it weren’t for the nurses and doctors who were so kind and caring my whole experience would be very traumatizing. I would absolutely recommend this hospital to anyone who is trying to figure out which hospital to deliver their baby. And I will definitely return for my second labour and delivery. A lot of the nurses even came to visit me after their shift was over just to make sure I was ok and to find out how the baby was doing. The nurses in this hospital truly love their job and seriously care for their patients. I’ve never met another nursing team that go above and beyond for their patients!
If your sick or in pain; don't come here! The doctors were nice and informative. More follow up appointment booked. Time at Hospital: 12 hours 36 minutes.
5 hours and counting... the emergency room here is divided into different zones. The orthopedic "yellow" zone, which we visited 2 weeks ago, ran like clockwork. It was the first time I ever thought maybe I would donate to a hospital in thanks. But, the "green" zone for general cases, where we are now, seems so very inefficient. Everyone working here seems in slow motion. Patients are waiting 5+ hours to be seen and the waiting room is overflowing at 4am but it just seems routine here. I swear there is just one doctor here for all these people. I've had bad experiences at hospitals before, but this just makes me sad for Canada's healthcare system. The walk in clinic down the street may be opened by the time we see the doctor. Next time we will drive a bit further to another hospital.
I went to this hospital after a day after a fall at my gymnastics. Although the waits were pretty long, (most of the orthopaedic doctors were all teaching somewhere until 12:00pm) I received excellent care. I was diagnosed with a broken elbow fairly quickly and got admitted straight after that. Doctors were very kind even when I was distressed. Then again, I came really early in the morning (6:45am), so timing might make a difference. Also, one ER nurse in particular was very kind. Cant remember her name, but helped me feel a lot better about the situation. I would definitely recommend going here. I also don't know why people complain about wait times- they're bad at every hospital. Anyways, I rate this hospital a 4/5 because the majority of doctors weren't here when needed, and the surgery that I needed was put off a day, as well as I was unable to receive a bed for quite some time.
Staff are very helpful with screening.
I've had to come here for emergencies as well as appointments, it's always a mercifully easy and kind experience. MG hands down has the most compassionate emergency intake folks at night as well, in my experience. If I have an emergency I will always ask the cab to take me here if we're close enough.
DO NOT GET A COVID TEST HERE. I had an appointment and had to wait around the block in line for an hour !!! The staff were nice but this place seemed very disorganized. Then I was told results would take 3 to SEVEN DAYS BECAUSE THEYRE BACKED UP! everyone I know who got a Covid test at other places were in and out in 20 min..... this place was painfully slow
I went to TGH East two years ago in 2010 when my 3 years son got his middle finger top squeezed in door and the nail was out but just held at its root only. We experienced a very professional service by the doctor in emergency ward. The doctor attended it with full care and nurses supported kid as it used to be. My wife and I were very happy. We went back to the hospital after about 3 months for follow up. The follow up doctor saw my son after 5 hours of wait. But we could understand the situation of many emergency patients coming inbetween. The doctor took only 5 minutes to see the progress of the nail. The nail regained its postion. We suggest if TEGH can manage some wait time...it will be excellent.
Such a disorganized place, I had an outpatient procedure booked in advance and was told it’s gonna last for 1 hr. After checking in and getting an iv I was told to wait in the waiting room. It was only 3 of us in the waiting room so wasn’t busy at all. After 6 hours waiting in that room the doctor came out and told me it’s gonna take another 2/3 maybe 4 hr to get in and quite possibly might not happen at all today. It was very frustrating and disappointing that you have to wait almost 10 hr even with the appointment booked.. I’m definitely looking at another hospital for my future health care needs.
Absolutely horror..Everytime you visit them.. Read Christos P. Tsonis review..it's spot on. One more reason for believing that Canada health Care system is complete failure and no one is accountable to imporve it.
I have been going to MGH (but always "East General" to me) since I moved to Toronto in 1995. I was stitched up (40+ stitches inside+out) from a bike accident in 1996, I received excellent rehabilitation for a knee injury in 1997, ... and while the stories do diminish slightly in their frequency, I have always trusted East General, even though it gets a bad reputation.
Might as well replace the hospital with a hot dog stand.
At 12 noon the 83 year-old patient arrived at the Emergency unit of Michael Garron Hospital, formerly known as East General Hospital, with pains in his enlarged abdomen. After registration, he had to sit on a chair in the waiting room for 3 hours before he was taken for a blood test. He then had to wait an additional 3 hours for the Emergency doctor to see him. Six hours after arriving at Emergency the patient was seen for 5 minutes by a young doctor, probably a trainee, who told him that he would be sent for an Ultrasound and CT scan. A few minutes later the doctor returned and informed the patient that the ultrasound service was closed for the night and he would have only a CT test. At about 9 pm a staff member took the patient to the CT scan area, but had to try several rooms before he found one open. After the CT scan was taken, the patient was brought back to the emergency area but still had to sit on a chair. He complained that he had abdominal pain and needed to lie down, and he was finally taken to a room with a bed. He was told that a hospital specialist would come to see him and would decide whether to admit him for more tests, due to his history of heart and liver problems, (the patient had previously been admitted to the Michael Garron Hospital 1 ½ years earlier for liver problems). But he had to wait for 2 more hours before the specialist came. There was no supervisor or coordinator at the Emergency area station. Several staff were at computers, and others were coming and going, but no one could tell the patient anything. Finally, at 11:15 pm (eleven hours after the patient arrived at emergency) a young internist doctor came to see him and admitted him for more tests. The patient was kept overnight in a room in emergency, but no nurse got him dressed in a hospital gown or checked to see if his intravenous fluid drip was functioning, which it wasn’t. Not until 11 am the next day was he transferred to a room on the 3rd floor of the hospital. In conclusion, the Emergency Department at Michael Garron hospital is dysfunctional and lacks effective organization and management. There are not enough Doctors with experience to deal with the patients in a timely and dignified manner. There is no accountability for the low level of service. The staff is hired and paid by Ontario taxpayers to serve the public, yet little effort is made to make patients comfortable. Patients cannot complain, yet there are signs on the wall stating that if a person “misbehaves”, the hospital staff have the right to remove him/her from the hospital. I am wondering is there any accountability in this Emergency Department? Does anybody care to read and evaluate all the complaints and ratings from the patients and what is it done to improve the healthcare service? The head of the hospital should spend a day in the Emergency area to see the low quality service the patients receive.
The nurse at Toronto East General was fired. I waited in the maternity waiting forward for 6 hours. The nurse while checking how many CM’s I was intentional pinched my insides. The nurse then ripe up my chart. Ken demanded to see a doctor, and the nurse would not page him. In the end, another nurse came to my rescue. This was Victoria Day week and had little staff. The receptionist told me that the nurse had done this before and that this nurse wanted to deliver the baby. The nurse wanted to be in the room to deliver the babies and was upset she was position in the waiting maternity area. Emma had no chart and no heartbeat monitor. We never knew if Emma was in distressed during the birth or had oxygen. This was in 2010, and I don't care if the hospital changed it name. My daughter suffered a permanent disabilities because of this nurse.
Amazing hospital with a team of professionals and experiences in the family birthing center. All the things are just perfect. If you are choosing a place to give a birth, it can be your first choice. And specially thank you the doctors and nurses there to save my newborn life. The triage was good, but can be more polite. Still, thanks everyone there!
Our experience at the TEGH has been nothing but positive!! We see several different specialists, interact with nurses, take educational classes (prenatal), and go regularly for check ups. We've also had to go to the emergency twice over the past year and both times it was a very positive experience, very much what you'd expect from an emergency team at any hospital. We also are affiliated with other care providers in Toronto, and would rate TEGH among the best! We can't vouch for every department but their pediatrics, diabetes, educational and obstetrics departments are all incredible!! Thank you, TEGH!!
One of worst hospital in the GTA doctors are having pizza in the back instead of looking after overwhelming patients nurses are just sitting at the stations pretending to be busy doing nothing if you go to ER make sure you have time to spend cause itll take minimal 12 hours
Met my needs medically but was mentally stressed, not just by the patients......
On Monday 10th June 2019 I was admitted to the Emergency Room due to personal health reason. Usually waiting to see a doctor can be so dreadful; this time it was not. A nurse by the name or Colleen was the most amazing, great and warm nurse who have dealt with me. She showed a general heartfelt concern for the other patients and I. She came as soon as someone needed something and apologized it she took a bit longer due to seeing other patients. In the day and age where the world is filled with darkness and hatred; people like Nurse Colleen gives me hope and faith that there are still wonderful people present. She treated the other patients and I like we were family and knew each other forever. NURSE COLLEEN YOU ARE PHENOMENAL.
I am begging you to visit another hospital. I was in immense pain and no-one helped me in the slightest. I have had 8 surgeries and felt as if I was dying. Literally the worst experience I've had in my life. Please, please, if you have an emergency visit another hospital. The fact the man working at check-in in emergency is still employed and such a jerk I am baffled. One of the worst nights of my entire life
I just had a total thyroidectomy performed at this hospital, and although I only had a short overnight stay, I have never been more impressed by the care shown not only to me, but also to other patients as well. Just a great hospital!
A bit complicated to get around, but good emerg dep't and a wide variety of services. Parking is hard to find - like most hospitals in Toronto.
I cut my finger and I'm waiting for about 4 hours till doctor just comes and see my finger to tell me if it needs stitches or not, I'm pretty sure I was before couples of people who were here but for some reason doctor didn't see me before them , 3 nurses are outside right now and just talking together, when I'm asking them how much more I need to be here, they don't have any ideas, when I asked them where is the doctor they said doctor will be back in 10 minutes ( it's about half an hour after and doctor didn't show up yet)
We had to visit Michael Garron Emerg. The staff were friendly (to us and each other) and efficient. They were busy but we never felt ignored. Getting a bed and having surgery went smoothly. Discharge happened the day after. Despite the trying circumstances, it was a very good experience.
Spent long time for a condition including sleeping there. Came home but bag of pills was wrong and had another patient's name. Doctor insulted me by swearing often. Other patients around were ridiculed by unfriendly and immature nurses (language), dizzy elderly told to walk by self to room at risk of a fall (disrespect, racism); short, impolite and demeaning staff even dismissed patients' care of food flavour (worth), positions used for agenda settling and not actual care (subtle threats), staff picking sides by using medicine to settle the score (taunting, riddiculing); had less than 1500kcal per day there of food (adult male needs >2500), doctors defend their jobs instead of patients' well being (if its me or you I will send flowers), improper procedure led to my being food deprived for 36 hours and wrong overdose during nearly killed me (spinning, heart racing). Lots wrong there, I'd start from scratch with whole new staff. Janitors and cleaning and mechanical are proper.
Emergency Half of these doctors are very lazy, my soon 11 years old at 10.00 still waiting until 2.00 o clock in the morning......and they talking. It's a shame
Today I took my daughter to the emergency at Michael Garron to get her wrist checked out after a fall and I just can’t say enough about the amazing service we received! Starting with the triage nurse, the gentleman at registration and then the nurses and doctors in the fracture clinic. This isn’t our first experience there and each one has always been very good! Thank you to the staff in our hospitals who work tirelessly, especially right now! We appreciate you!
It is not good must off the need are not working just waking and play sick people life west time the when the book appointment I don't think there some one To check They shouldn't take the money And I sure will be to much past away to. Make sure check all theat please go and che
This hospital is absolute trash. I've been having problems with my legs for over a year and after going to my family doctor and many specialist I decided to come here as a last resort. The nurse that checked on me thought it was a nerve problem just like my mom and I. the doctor on the other hand was extremely disrespectful, basically said I was complaining over nothing and didnt even want to examine me for himself. We basically went to the hospital waited and 5 hours just to be dismissed in under 10 minutes. Now fast forward to last month. I went to a different hospital and they did an MRI and it turns out theres something going on in my parietal lobe...now if the doctor at East General would've taken a bit more time...we couldve found out what's going on with my legs a whole lot sooner. Just proves doctors here dont really care
The incompetency in the mental health department is disturbing. Was just kept waiting for forty minutes because Okyere couldn't find me. Was in the lounge the whole time. First time we met he asked me if I was sad a lot, and I said no (my depression manifests as numbness because it is chronic). This alleged psychiatrist told me I wasn't depressed because I wasn't sad all the time aka a 9-year old's interpretation of what depression is. Michael Garron will be better off after he dies or retires.
Wonderfully managed hospital. Had been there to get myself assessed for COVID-19. Social distancing measures were spot on!! The entire experience was smooth right from registration, testing and report. As informed during testing, my results were out within 48 hours! Kudos to all the staffs of the hospital. You guys are doing a fantastic job!
One of the best hospitals I’ve been going too for many years.
Always excellent care. Emergency room wait times reasonable, often better than average. Friendly staff and volunteers who support and respect diversity. Would give 5 stars but bicycle parking is sparse and from the 1970's... can only lock front wheel IF you get a spot. Improvements would help encourage healthy lifestyles.
Terrible hospital with a deteriorated health care and rude neglected staff. Very rude and careless employees and doctors. I highly don’t recommend this horrible hoapital.
Came here for a COVID-19 test. Staff was very quick and efficient. In and out in 5 minutes. Accepted me earlier than my appointment time. Entrance: Mortimer Ave Results within 72hrs UPDATE: I received my results in under 24hrs. Very impressed and thankful! Highly recommend this hospital for the COVID test!
Extremely long waiting times, which clearly indicates shortage of staff. The very essence of an emergency is to get treatment on urgent basis, but "urgency" is an alien word here. Absolute mess of an emergency.
I have been observing the treatment of patients in this hospital, majority of the staff i have come across are wonderful. One nurse (bad apple) consistently treating everyone in a demeaning manner. She definately requires sensitivity training, she is getting frustrated with her patients on regular basis and issues threats to get her way. This could become very dangerous for the health of patients if not dealt with urgently. Please contact me for her name.
Great hospital with amazing staff, doctors, and nurses. Lots of negative reviews by people who either went to the ER without a real emergency and had to wait a long time, or people that don't understand that test results take time and are done by a lab and not the actual hospital. If you have a real emergency they respond quickly and in my experience they have some of the shortest wait times for any ER in the city. If you freak out because you baby has a cold, you'll wait a long time because it's not an actual emergency. If you come because you have a cough then you'll wait a long time. People go to the ER for non-emergency issues and then whine about wait times. ER is for an actual emergency. If you go and have a long wait time or are discharged without any results then it wasn't an actual emergency and you should have gone to a walk in or your family doctor. I've been there for mental health issues, fractures, stitches, and x-rays and always found that I am treated with respect and have always found the staff to be amazing! Please read the reviews and don't just go by the star rating as you'll notice a lot of people whining because their selfish and feel like they should be treated like a VIP or something.
Took my father to the Cardiology Labs on Friday. Seemed like they knew what they were doing though every staff member or technician we talked to seemed robotic, and unhappy in their work and/or environment. Weird, 'cause we've been to a whole bunch of hospitals over the last 5 years to help him with a multitude of moderate to severe health issues, and I've never been to one with this kind of unhealthy vibe. Glad we were only there for a couple of hours.
This spacious, clean hospital kindly helped me deliver my son. 10/10, even though is now teenager and mouths off occasionally.
Nurses don’t have manners how to treat patients in pain ????
Had a baby there few months ago. The treatment and the care I received were exceptional. I was a first time parent very nervous and anxious but the whole maternity ward and the gynaecologist out there did amazing job.I can’t thank the nurses enough.Thank you team for your phenomenal and dedicated work.
Both my kids were born there and they are amazing all around.
Alvin was such a great doctor asks all the right questions and took alot of care in treating my foot sprain! Great job!
The worst hospital you can take pregnant woman to, they play with human life, nurses are unexperienced careless and has worst attitude. There is 0 care and respect for patients. A normal delivery leads to c section surgery because the nurses were too dumb to figure if the patient was getting the epidural or was it’s just leaking around
Have been there both for emergency care and routine health care. Very professional and compassionate treatment all round. Twice I was in ER for very painful accidents and was in and out the door in 45 minutes! Another time I was being treated for a difficult issue and I will always appreciate how the doctor comforted me. I cannot remember her name but will never forget her kind and compassionate words and energy.
Had my covid test done here it was fast and the staff were very friendly
This review is regarding the ER department at Michael Garron. My husband had a very long wait at Michael Garron, as can be anticipated at any ER across Canada. Due to fatigue and a sense of hopelessness, he left without being seen after 6 hours on a Friday night, only to return the next day out of desperation for treatment. The option of forgoing any medical assessment was more worrisome than the long wait required when we decided to revisit the ER. Saturday he was assessed, treated and released in 9 hours. We left the hospital with no clear answers to my husband's issue, but felt assured he had been properly monitored and assessed, and were clear on our follow-up instructions. Despite this timeframe and outcome, my husband and I found the process, nurses and doctors we encountered during our ER visits to be efficient, attentive, caring and communicative. Expectations must be managed when visiting any hospital ER in Canada, and self-advocacy (or someone to advocate on your behalf) is a necessity when navigating any aspect of our health care system. Our system is definitely challenged and strained to a tipping-point, but within these parameters I found the care we received from the staff at Michael Garron to be excellent. During our time in the ER (and reflected in some reviews here), I was dismayed by how many patient complaints and demands I heard directed towards the staff. I realize that a visit to the ER is a stressful event (as it was for us), but choosing to direct frustration at the staff only compounds the time challenges of those trying to manage and treat patients, and adds strain to the already fraught atmosphere of the ER. In addition, the anger and anxiety that accompanies the lack of acceptance of the wait-time reality is counter-productive to one's own health concerns or those of loved ones, and denigrates the efforts of the staff therefore exacerbating the issue. Energy should be directed at lobbying our politicians, voting conscientiously and demanding sound healthcare policy and budgetary spending, rather than complaining to the nurses, doctors and support staff who are doing their best within the strained system that is their everyday workplace. My general observation while visiting this ER was that the staff were doing their best, worked effectively in an often-complex revolving team environment and respected the work they did and the patients they were there to serve. I saw less reciprocal respect from patients. Visiting an ER in this country currently requires a heavy dose of managed expectations on wait time, but we should remain proud that the standard of care we receive by the front line workers once you are in the system is high.
My experience at the birthing and pediatric areas of Michael Garron from less than a week ago is very positive. My wife and I collectively interacted with well over 50 individuals from beginning to end (prenatal to post-partum) and we were, even through our most critical lens, very satisfied with care provided, as well as how the care was compassionately administered to both baby and my wife (c-section). Anyone who is considering having their baby delivered there should put their mind at ease, you and your family will be in good hands. Thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and support staff that helped us! The shift changes made it hard for us to say this to everyone before we were discharged. Thumbs up to the team and keep up the phenomenal work!
I had surgery here. I can't say the hospital is very good and the staff here are great. I can only say that the hospital is not bad.
Quick and easy covid test experience.
All my experiences at the TEGH were very good. Staff and doctors really seem to care and always try to attend in a timely manner. My daughter was born here and also my experiences at the emergency, fracture clinic and hand clinic make me very comfortable being taken care of in this hospital.
Had numerous lovely experiences here especially in the Family Birthing Centre. Am 35 weeks now but had some complications from 30-32 weeks with my pregnancy - contractions and pain from prelabour symptoms. A lot of weird things going on with my body even though baby was healthy but everyone was and is very knowledgeable, accommodating, reassuring and paid special attention to me. Felt like I was being heard and my needs were always front of mind. Just one less than ideal experience with a new resident but overall 5/5! Very thankful for such a great department at this hospital... I don’t believe any other hospital Birthing Centre comes close when I have conversations with other moms or moms to be. Maternity Ward: Nurse Sarah was and is the best! I hope I get her for delivery! Nurse Gina and Nurse Perry so amazing just to name a few! OBY’s: Dr. Woods, Dr. Cram, and Dr. McCloud! Thank you for taking care of me every time I’ve come in or had to stay overnight! Instructor Paula from Pre-Natal and Baby classes... truly a gem and knowledgeable! You’ve made me feel as though I am prepared for what’s ahead! Such a great department that gives peace of mind to anxious and OCD people like me! Thank you again! While I am writing this review I do want to mention - the emergency department not related to FBC is not very good in comparison. I’ve never had a nurse or doctor truly care about what they are doing or how they are treating people. It’s a shame. My experiences at emergency almost made me choose another hospital for birth but my OBY was based here so I decided to try it out before switching. Glad I did... but I think the emerg needs a review and revamp. Only department that Is good, is the fracture clinic. Some good doctor and nurses there. Someone from administration should come in themselves as a patient to truly experience it and see first hand to fix it. Very happy to have a positive experience elsewhere in the hospital. Thanks to the staff at FBC again for the positive experiences.
They're really good here. It can get busy because it's a hospital.
Great hospital! Friendly, supportive and professional staff. They helped us greatly with childbirth. Both of my daughters were born here. The first one has a health issue. Staff was extremely competent and knowledgable to deal with her problem. They have their own laboratory that works 24/7 and produces results as quickly as possible. This allows doctors to constantly monitor patients's conditions and take timely measures. Now my daughters are OK and I am very thankful to staff. Thank you so much and all the best to all personnel.
Many gaps regarding collection, containment, use of patient information. The hospital must use one, single database system. I arrived at emergency on a Friday afternoon and went through triage the same day. On my discharge paper, it has my arrival a full 12 hours later. My attending physician was not apprised to any background details before meeting me; in fact, he did not know my name, why I was there, how long I was there. This isn't his fault. Why wasn't there a chart accompanying me throughout my stay at the hospital, detailing every interaction with staff, medication, room transfers, blood work, etc.? The system is partially digitized, with wristbands that contain QR codes. This is presumably the record of the patient during their current stay. Why doesn't the doctor have a scanner and tablet to retrieve this information? Why was much time wasted going over the same things from emergency that were asked and answered at least twice before? This is an incredible waste of time and resources. Collect all the necessary data points. Keep one single database. Limit access to needs by department or treating physician. No overlapping databases. No paperwork with haphazard systems that don't integrate with each other; much valuable information and time is lost this way, particularly with shift changes. The doctors are sent in to battle with one hand tied behind their backs, and antiquated weaponry at their disposal. And the kitchen...... People will not mend quickly if they cannot eat properly. This is massive for anyone recovering. In my 4 days there, not once did the kitchen provide adequate substantials for me, despite numerous discussions with nurses, who took notes and informed the kitchen directly. Missed meals, incomplete meals, indigestible meals, meals that completely ignored allergic reactions. If the left hand does not work with the right hand, both hands cannot be healing the patients.
I decided to have a baby at this place , worst mistake of .my life . So many things happened that made me look at these ppl sideways. One resident made me scream out so loud in pain that 7 ppl came running into the room( I kept telling her to stop and she kept pushing a device inside me to see if my water broke I had to scream for help for her to stop because people were coming in . ) . Then when I was to get frozen another resident missed and I said stop , the doctor made him proceed against my wishes none of these ppl listen until you call above them then they respect you . When I was at my last push a pediatrician came in and was watching like it was a TV show . He turned around and faced the wall . Then ruined my moment with my newborn for various reasons, including one where I thought my baby had died . Then I'm discharged and the staff forget to give me her temporary healthcard and documents. They lost the paper where I had all my payment information not even 5 minutes in my room after birth a woman is knocking ruining my moment yet again because she cant find my paperwork with payment information. If I ever have more children I will never set foot in this incompetent dysfunctional hospital ever . The students and residents are not qualified to care for you or your baby and the doctors are questionable. All you have to do is google some of them to see if they have been charged lol.... stay away from this place if your giving birth .
PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. In the case of an emergency go to any, literally ANY other hospital. I have had been having surgeries and health implications for over 20 years and have never been treated with such disrespect when I felt as if I was dying. I am not sure if my stomach ulcer has gotten worse, my bowel has twisted again, my hernia has ripped, I'm not sure. I had to leave due to the lack of help. I was literally crying in the hospital for over an hour and not a single person helped. I cannot believe the guy at the emergency check-in still has a job there. Whoever was working at 11pm should be fired. I've never been treated like this at a hospital. One of the worst nights of my entire life. I cannot believe this hospital. Please, PLEASE, if you have an emergency, please visit another hospital.
I loved this hospital, people are so friendly.
Hardworking and compassionate staff. They treat you like a human being. Always receive amazing care there.
Missed the fact that I had appendicitis. Told me it was the stomach flu.
Toronto East General :SHAME for all the good you have done you let us down your security has become the judge of people who can't defend theirself vs them self ,why? have I seen black eyes ,busted up lipes stitchies ,why ?is it OK for security to give its own justice.SHAME its not OK for security to spit in someone's mouth .we are the keeper of people who cant keep them self its a burden that is seldom rewarded but nesarey. People come to East General for help even if they don't know it
What kind of hospital Don’t have a doctor on the emergency or only have one doctor ? after 4 hours I went home without seeing any doctor !!!!!!
3rd world conditions I made a visit to the ER Room this past Thursday. I'll start out by saying the Doctor was lovely, the rest of this place was disorganized and poorly managed. Some of the nurses upon my admitance into the waiting room were rude. I was to follow the green arrows on the floor, and as I could not see where it led to, I approached the desk and a nurse said to me "oh so you think you can get ahead of everyone whos been waiting?" SO RUDE! I replied, "No I've never been here before and I need to know where I am to go. Then once I finally saw the Doctor (5 hours of waiting), He said he wanted me to give a sample, and he'd have me hooked up to an IV and give me some medications. In all the hospitals I've ever been to, after the Doctor sees you, the nurse is to get started on treatment. This hospital was more concerned with swiping as many OHIP cards as possible and providing sub-par service, rather than taking less people and providing a quality service. After I saw the doctor, the nurses seemed to have been so incredibly busy they left me in the bed for another hour without touching base with me. Then the nurses moved because they needed the bed, and I waited ANOTHER HOUR in a different location before being hooked up to an IV and given medication!!!! It was obsecene. 2 hours after seeing the doctor I was finally given treatment, which would take another hour! I was set up on a chair to have the IV. The Chair leads me into the 3rd world conditions, it was unsanitairy. blood splotches stained the arm rests. dried blood on the arm chair. It clearly hasn't been cleaned and is a health risk. absolutely disgusting. My tattoo artist has a more hygenic studio than this hospital. Im considering reporting them to public health. When people are in compromised states of health and have no energy to speak up, these are the conditions you have deal with. I don't recommend go here. Next time Im ill, I'll go downtown to a more reputable hospital.
Went in yesterday for 14 stitches in my hand. Staff was amazing and very friendly. I was out in under two hours. It was amazing!
I came in reporting having a head injury feeling dizzy and disoriented at 3:00pm and still waiting in pain and dizzy after 3+ hours in triage and havent been seen yet this hospital is the absolute worst ive ever been to
My only suggestion for all of you guys please visited the sunny broke hospital because at this hospital nurses and other stuff are very careless and waiting time is more then 8_12 hours and the doctors did not show up. Several times I visited and had the same bad experience. I hope if someone is reading my messages so please please change the system and create some new policy . Thanks
I was In the hospital for total 9h. My mother was in a lot of pain of kidneys stones and that is very very painful. It took them 4h-5h to give her a painkiller by that time she couldn’t even move. The nursers and doctors are nice, but management hire more people it’s absolutely ridiculous to wait that long. Unless you are dying there they won’t take u, but I blame the management because there is no organization, so get rid of the management and hire someone who will do a better job to organize this place. Thank you
Every experience I've had at Michael Garron Hospital has been pleasant. Yes, wait times in the emergency dept. are long - as they are in every other hospital I've ever been to over my 72 years. But that should not be the basis for giving negative reviews.
Needed some ER attention this week and it was my first opportunity to experience and now to thank all the front line staff including the Dr., nurses, registration, and cleaners who were all so kind to me and I honestly cannot believe how hard everyone works there. Thank you to all staff at Michael Garron hospital.
Thank you Michael Garron hospital staff and Surgeon for my hernia
had 3 kids here! all doctors and most delivery nurses are very nice. but can't say the same for ER
YESTERDAY I WAS IN AND OUT OF HOSPITAL IN LESS THEN 3 HOURS STAFF WAS GREAT THANK YOU EVERY ONE WAS SMILING SO I DID FEEL SCARED OR WORRIED I WAS CALM AND THAT HELPS
Extremely rude and obnoxious staff. Patients are disgracefully treated. I would rather try to deal with medical issues on my own than step foot on their property ever again. The service has been substandard there in my near 20 year experience.
I'm not one to complain about receiving high quality Canadian healthcare, but to be frank, there are much better hospitals in Toronto. I certainly wouldn't avoid it in an emergency but TEGH wouldn't be my first choice as a patient, or as the guardian of a patient. Speaking from first hand experience, as a professional and as the family member of a patient, it was not the most conscientious care.
RUN!
Everyone there is super amazing!
Fantastically efficient and friendly. Took my son in for a COVID-19 test and we were in and out in 10 minutes. A person administering the test was wonderful, with a good sense of humour. Note: they do the shallow penetration nasal swab.
We have always received good medical attention at this hospital, but unfortunately the process of being seen by a doctor is terrible. After a long wait in Emergency yesterday (which we expected) we had a 12.30 appointment today. It is now 3.40 and we have still not been seen. No one seems to care. People are leaving constantly in frustration, which might eventually make it faster for us, but it is a really terrible system. Not sure how this can be fixed but it is a terrible experience.
The doctor is pretty good, but the hospital management is worse, my mom is good example!
At this hospital staff take their job seriously .I am totally amazed by the quality of service and care I experienced. MGH is now my favourite go to place for Medicare.
With the exception of a kind of grumpy COVID tester, ALL the medical staff were amazing during my hip replacement surgery. The pre-op consultation blew me away with how efficient it was and I had my own room so no moving around as various medical professionals saw me and gave me my pre-op advice and procedures. COVID procedures were strictly followed. I was in and out of the hospital in 25 hours! AMAZING and I am healing so quickly. Highly recommend Dr. Peter Weiler as an orthopaedic surgeon as all all the other professionals there. They really did look after me well.
Nurse Mary And Dr r. Mohindra were great. I came in with a sudden anaphylactic episode and they were on it. Getting me the drugs I needed to my throat wouldn’t close, checking on me often. Lots of great questions. I felt very safe and cared for. I’m so thankful to them! If they ever read this, thank you from the bottom of my heart :)
This hospital saved my life by approving this liver medication and after several blood tests, my energy level sky rocketed Also had hernia surgery which was very successful. 50 years old. Feel like I am 20.
I just had my thyroid removed on New Years and was concerned that the place will be understaffed but I was wrong. I had Avery good experience but yes the building is old but everything went well and nurses were very kind and helpful.
Been here twice for mental health reasons. They want to get you in and out as quickly as possible and don't push for you to speak to a psychiatrist. Security guards are untrained in mental health crisis. However I've had two very lovely doctors stitch me up...the two stars given are for them. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis go to St Mike's if you can.
Just had a covid test at Michael Garron. In and out within 5 minutes or possibly less. Efficient, quick and staff was friendly!
my wife came 1100am and she waited 5 hours to get register. she was asking help due to heavy bleeding. staff turned out to be disrespectful and saying either you wait or go back and call 911. she waited another 2 hours for her name call. i wanted to assist her to translate since she cant speak good english but they didnt allow me. i was dorced to stay outside. i wont recommend this hospital for anyone in light emergency. they have a policy that if patient is going to die then they will check. they said my wife to wait until she bled out completely and become unconscious then they will consider something. they simply dont care.
Such useless people dont listen to the main problems, takes forever to do anything and puts me through tests that shouldnt be applicable to my symptoms. Takes hours upon hours for a simple blood test.
Formally known as Toronto East General Hospital. After a $50 million donation from Myron and Berna Garron, the name was changed to Michael Garron Hospital. Locals (Torontoians) still refer to it as East General Hospital. So don't get confused when people call this address as simply East General. My mom came in for an operation and stayed under observation for 48 hours. So My dad and I have personally stayed with her through out the 48 hours, which is something you have to ask for, and they're kindly enough to let us. So we met the day and night staff of the B wing on fifth floor; and I've spent a solid 20 hours at this hospital. Would I come back to this hospital in the future for myself? Not, and definitely absolutely not over night (unless someone took a gun at my head, and that I'm 100% certain I'll be shot if I don't). I have to say, almost all the staff I encountered, not just the ones taking care of my mom, are nice and friendly, and young (It could have something to do with their association with University of Toronto, but don't take my word for it). Personally I like the day staff much better than the night staff. Namely Pratima (nurse), David (patient care assistant), and Tamara (patient care assistant), at the B wing, whom are superb at caring for their patients. A few areas have much room for improvement. There's no way of making large quantity of hot water by ourselves, even though there's a coffee maker in the kitchenette, along with a microwave and ice and water maker. We had to ask for some hot water at the Tim Horton downstairs, which is open 24 hours by the way, but they charge you and give you tea bags at the side. So I suggest to come prepared. Ps. Also bring polyester and bandage, maybe even a small first aid kit since one of the night staff (likely a nurses)told me, with an inpatient and annoyed over tone, that they can't give me anything for my own injury, which happened while I unsuccessfully tried to make a pot of hot watering using the coffee maker. Luckily, I always have a few bandaid on me when I go out.
Information counter was very good provided concise information and direction to medical station. Medical service provided was very good professional and polite.
Now that my sister is being treated in another Toronto hospital and I have also been a survivor contact for other cancer patients, I appreciate TEGH's cancer unit even more. I was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer. The most important thing is that they treat the whole patient and not just the cancer. If you have a cold, they take care of it, because it probably came about as a result of lowered immunity. This is the only hospital to my knowledge that doesn't get caught up in the not-my-department blues. Key to this is the heightened role of the nurses. I was so very lucky to be an oncology patient at this hospital. Sue
Disgraceful. Because they didn't know about the severe form of my neurological illness, they bandied about "somatization" behind my back, but never to my face because they never diagnosed it. I have been Dx'd with my neuro illness by 5 N. American specialists. All that was thrown out the window and the unit manager kept telling my advocates "that [I] could walk if i wanted to". I was unable to walk or stand for 12 years. All this incorrect info got carried on to LHINs and all my caregiver providers. I just saw more evidence of this psychiatric Dx TODAY via LHIN. The hospital was supposed to correct this error and let CCAC/LHIN know; that was in 2016. Caused me hundreds of hours of work to get them to recant and change my medical records. So much harm done from ignorance, laziness, and a god complex: Drs. Sirna, Christopher Smith, Robinson -- I'm speaking of you.
Worst emergency room doctors but the other doctors are nice
I was there for my 1 year old daughter yesterday. She had woken up around 1130 PM and her face was swollen. We rushed her to this so called hospital and thats when I found out how unprofessional this hospital is. We were in emergency and were told we had alittle bit of a wait after seeing the nurse. we were told me could either just go home or wait in the waiting room. My daughter at this point was SCREAMING and the hospital was freezing. In the waiting room we saw a man that was maybe 70 years old and was coughing blood into a rag, and they kept telling him he had to wait... just like everyone else. To shield my daughter from either sickness or just plain terror ( dont get me wrong, its not the elderly mans fault, that sould have been priority and should have been taken in to see someone right away) I walked out of the waiting room and found a bed. I didnt even ask at this point but my daughter was screaming and I needed to lay her down. HOURS went by and I asked what place in line we had. 8th. Not too bad, she said the doctor was moving quick. Come to find out there was ONE DOCTOR doing all patients in two areas of emergency and taking about 20 minutes each to chart the patients and talk loudly on his cell phone. My husband and I finally put my daughter to sleep and her swelling had went down a bit. we fell asleep. I wake up an hour and a half later and ask again " what place are we" 6th. I ask her " so in almost two hours hes done 2 people?" She and her coworker both look at me ( one of them too busy on facebook to really care whats going on) and say hes reassessing people. Two people an hour? okay. Wait a few minutes to find the doctor talking to another staff member about boats. this goes on for about ten minutes before he heads back to the computer for another 30 mins. He sees a man that is clearly drunk asking for percocet. gives the man eveything he saked for, including the 3 Valium he needed to " get by" ( oh yeah the doctor has all conversations with all patients in the waiting areas) FINALLY we see our doctor at 6am( a little more than 6 hours for an 18 month old with a swollen face) the swelling has gone down, with just her her eyelid purple and swollen. The makes a joke that all we had to do was come hang out at emerge for her to feel better. then tells me to get me to get her attention from different sides of the room so he could sees the whites of her eyes. I stand in the right side of the room so she would shift her eyes, but from pure exhastion she doesnt respond. So the doctor tells me " oh well shes not looking, you must not be that interesting" i understand this may be a joke, but 6 hours later we are not friends like that. He tells us its not not that serious but if we get pink eye she has pink eye. AFTER 6 HOURS, I brought my daughter to her family doctor and shes very ill, and not what the doctor at this hospital said AT ALL. If you dont want to waster your time, go to another hospital.
slow and unhelpful staff
The nurses and doctors are really nice my mom has been in and out of there for quite awhile and the only thing I suggest is faster timing in th ER
The worst people ever I saw on the planet... morally corrupt , lying shamelessly in your face..just had my CT Scan.. at 4 pm ..waited for the report... at 8 pm having tired of waiting asked the doctor and he said there were two more people ahead of me...while every one else who came after me had already gone...then the doctor said...that some one had forgot to put my X-ray to be examined by the radiologist...that he had called the radiologist who would do it within next 30 minutes.. it was 9 pm by that time... .At 9:30 when that section was going to be closed the doctor said that they would call me by tomorrow if there is something wrong with the report . I wonder they would have let me go right after the CT scan...and would have called me whenever they might be able to go through the result.. I was ambulted.. waited 6 hours in the wheel chair.. with a terrible back pain. I left the hospital saying that IT WAS THE MOST VALUABLE PIECE OF INFORNATION WORTH WAITING FOR 6 HOURS IN THE WHEEL CHAIR. Most importantly, the lady at the desk was laughing very loudly at me when I left. I told her that it was a psychological disorder if she was happy and enjoying my SUFFERING.
I gave birth at this hospital on August 7, 2021. The triage nurses were awful. They had so much attitude. The first nurse on shift seemed so annoyed at the most simplest of questions. Luckily, I fell asleep while in labour due to my dose of morphine and gravel. The second shift nurse was even worse. I was alone for most of the time but my daddy came for a couple of hours to support me. But once he left my contractions started shortly after. I called the nurse in to my bed space 4 different times; telling her each time I needed to push. I had said one time “you don’t understand I need to push “and she responded with “I’ve been working this job for over 20 years, I do understand “ I would call her back into my bed space continuously telling her I needed to push and she kept telling me that the more time she wastes responding to me the less time she has to get my birth room ready. She had a horrible attitude and refused to listen to me when I was telling her that I was ready to push. It was a very traumatic experience; being so young and alone giving birth. And then to have the nurses belittle me was the cherry on top of the cake. If this hospital does other people the way it did me I believe it should be shut down. I hope that those nurses get what they deserve. Even if that’s a freaking vacation
I am completely happy with the nurses and doctors at this hospital. It was my first time being a patient here for day surgery. The nurses are great, extremely friendly, empathetic, caring. This is very rare as I work with nurses everyday and they r usually very angry ppl. This was not the case with all 7 nurses I dealt with. My surgeon was extremely nice as well..he explained my surgery very thoroughly. The day surgery team at this hospital get 10 out of 10 from me!
My dad was suffering from COVID-19 and he was brought here because he was having COVID-19 Complications. A week later, he was brought back home totally fine! He told me the hospital staff were very kind, and they had good service!
Got rushed here via ambulance with pneumonia and still couldn't see a doctor. I was drenched in sweat and wasn't given any water. There wasn't even anyone waiting in emergency. I mostly just wanted to get a chest x-Ray. Using my better judgement, I decided to just go home. At least I can hydrate myself and get some compassion here. This is the second time I had to leave this butthole of a hospital. Also, my wife had bled quite a lot while she was a few months pregnant and we still had to wait like 8-9 hours to see a doctor! You'd think they'd prioritize patients, especially when it's the safety of your unborn child. Most of the staff are emotionless and incompetent. If you want to die, this is the place to go. You're better off going to any other hospital in the city. I actually think they'd prefer it that way, because patients always seem like a burden to the staff. This place angers me to no end.
I can't complain about waiting time. However, I was misdiagnosed about my left ear who was totally plugged and I felt a horrible pain who made tears flew from my eyes. When the doctor saw my ear, he saw also a severe inflammation and decided to prescribe Ciprodex ( ear drops ) already prescribed by my family doctor and didn't work at all. I asked him for Amoxicillin instead, but he was insisting on the ear drops. After 3 weeks a walk-in clinic doctor discovered a perforation on my eardrum and told me it's because of a severe inflammation that wasn't treated properly and Ciprodex was a big mistake. Should I sue them for loosing hearing? I'm so frustrated and my ear is always draining ...
Waited 3 hours and didn't really tell us anything about why my baby was sick. Went to sick kids and they knew in an hour. Waste of time going here for anything child related.
I cannot tell you how frustrating it was to park a car. Spots are so limited, you have to park at public parking spaces or even on the side of the street. I arrived there at 9:20 for an appointment at 9:30. So I thought, okay, we will make it in time. LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT THE PARKING SPACES WERE NOT ENOUGH. We arrived at the doctor's office at 10:10! Here. What if you are in need of instant medical help and you need to go to the E.R. Are you actually going to spend half an hour trying to look for a parking space! The only reason I gave one star was because the staff inside were very friendly. I rest my case. If you are in seek of medical care, DON'T GO TO THIS HOSPITAL! This is only for last resorts!!!!????????????????????
I accompanied my 75yo father to ER in April 2021. Although his temperature was tested repeatedly, I was never checked or asked if I have Covid symptoms despite my cough due to chronic asthma. While in the ER department we witnessed nurses dropping gloves on the floor, picking them up and wearing them to attend patients. The surface areas of tables used during blood work were completely covered in dried blood. We never saw anyone wiping them down in 2 days. Nurses would toss items in the garbage bin not caring whether they would land inside. Following surgery, my father was an inpatient for a week. When I visited twice to drop off a few things in the lobby, as I could not visit, the screening tests did not include a temp check during a peak phase of a global pandemic. When I asked why they didn’t check for temp, the answer was they use to, but they didn’t any longer without being able to provide an explanation. During the week long hospital stay, my father would ring for assistance but rarely received any. I wouldn’t waste my time filing a formal complaint. It would be completely pointless. This hospital is an absolute disgrace and a big reason why we are considering selling the house to move to a different hospital vicinity.
Excellent experience. Day surgery was only 20 minutes off scheduled time, very friendly staff, post op nurses went out of their way to make me comfortable. The couple of other times I've been there for tests, I pretty much had the same experience.
Amazing staff here - from admitting to nursing to the pre-operative staff, everything about my visit went smoothly and I felt calm and comfortable throughout the whole experience. Admitting staff were extremely friendly and efficient. My nurse, Josh, made me feel at ease and calm while prepping me for my day surgery procedure (despite my veins being uncooperative for my IV!). Dr. Badmos and his Team were great. I felt relaxed in the OR and was asleep before I knew it. When I was in recovery, the nurses there were very attentive and helped calm me down as I was coming off of the anaesthesia. At discharge, everything I needed to go home was explained in detail and the nurses didn't let me leave until they were confident that my wounds would be okay. Thank you for the positive experience, and I know I'll be on the mend very shortly.
The worst hospital in Toronto five hrs wait is normal
I have a hernia and went to the emergency room here. I waited 3 hours as people who came in after me were seen by the nurses. When I asked politely when I would be seen I was told very rudely to sit down and wait my turn. What a joke of a hospital.
The staff have amazing patience for some seriously ungrateful patients. Patients start complaining and putting down the staff because they are not fast enough for their convenience, yet the staff remain calm, polite, and patient with them, very professional despite being overwhelmed.
I came here pre-covid with self harm injuries and the staff were extremely cold and aggressive about it. I was alone and visibly scared. There was no compassion or empathy, and I ended up leaving after 5 hours because they were letting everyone go ahead of me. I ended up getting 7 stitches at broadview clinic on danforth, where they were very kind and treated me like a person.
Excellent emergency service. Staff is courteous and efficient considering the number of walk-ins that arrive every day.
This appt was prompt amazing on time
The experience was disappointing. My grandmother was there for almost a week and a half. In that time she saw doctors very infrequently and the nurses never seemed to know what was going on. It was only when she declared she was leaving did they shower her with all the tests and machines that had been promised. In the end she was diagnosed with a minor stroke. They claimed that the machines were backed up with work orders but clearly this was not the case as she had them all within hours of each other. I have no idea who these people think they are but this hospital is in dire need of new management.
I have to say that we had an amazing experience in the Maternity ward, and will be choosing East Gen when our second child is born in a few months. We were in and out of the ward due to jaundice, but the staff was amazing, patient and kind. I find the arguments about incompetent nurses amusing. I know everyone on the Internet is a medical professional, but I'd wager that your ability to evaluate ones' credentials is rather suspect. Regardless, the Mat ward people are amazing and the only other ward I've really toured (End of Life facilities) was amazing too. The one real experience I've had here at emergency was with my mother who had a very minor, in the triage scope of things, emergency. We rightfully ended up waiting a VERY long time to get service. That's how triage works, and while it was a bit frustrating and I do think it would be nice to get those wait times down, I think it would do us all some good to realize just how busy these places are.
Got my vaccination here, unfortunately after that they used my contact information to start spamming me.
Great Hospital with amazing staff
I came to them with a medical condition that could not be diagnosed by my family doctor and was treated extremely well. Efficient and caring staff from the moment I walked in the ER door, through admission to the hospital and discharge - healing, caring, professionals with great attention to detail. Even the food is good! I am very thankful to have this facility in my neighbourhood. Well done!! Tremendous thanks.
The doctors here saved my wife's life, how's that for a review!
On Saturday November 28 at 4 pm, we got Covid-19 tests at the Michael Garron test centre. It was incredibly easy to book the appointments online less than 24 hours prior. The test centre dedicated to Covid was incredibly organized and efficient. The staff were kind, effective and professional... we were in and out in 20 minutes. Our test results (negative) were available to us online within 28 hours. Thank you to the staff and the hospital!
Please don't randomly call my number and not speak. As well as, when i call back and you guys ask me to be on hold and randomly hang up. I understand you guys are busy but dont be calling random people and just hanging up without saying anything.
Does not even deserve the one star I'm forced to give in order to leave a review. The staff is useless, there is zero communication and they are full of attitude. I was accompanying someone who has tremendous mental health issues for a surgery, and we had outlined in 2 different appointments with the doctor and the hospital that I was to remain with him for his entire visit, aside from the time he was on the operating table. Instead I was pushed out of the room by a very rude nurse who told me all would be fine. The staff were given very clear directions from our family doctor, which was entirely ignored. To the extent of being told we should've booked a Pre-op appointment. Meanwhile we had two, and tried for more and were denied. When I told the staff that the surgery would not happen at all if the plan was not followed, I was disregarded. But then called back to the operating wing to calm down my friend after the nurses had screwed up. I have spent 10 hours in this hospital for a 2 hour procedure that should've been a day surgery. I have recieved no update as to what is going on. This hospital is absolute garbage and I should've wheeled the poor boy out the door and taken him home when they called me back to calm him. I'll sooner die than return to this absolute garbage dump.
Had to visit the ER twice and follow up with an appointment. Staff were fantastic each time. Huge shout out to the ER staff. Quick, compassionate, and professional
We were at Toronto East General for our baby's birth a week ago. Amazing nurses, doctors and staff at the birthing center, special nursery and pediatric section. All of them are experienced, kind, helpful and trustful. Perfect process from start to end. If I would write the names of people I would like to thank, text space here wouldn't be enough. These guys are all doing an excellent job and I hope and believe that they will keep it up!
Excellent Hospital. Very clean and all staff are very helpful in particular this is very busy hospital in the Est of Toronto. Also very good Private Coffee Shop in the end of hall near Admission don't miss it :)
The doctors and nurses are very nice. I had allergies and had a good day in the emergency department, which made me feel at home.
Came for day surgery. RNs were amazing, especially Cema on the 6th floor. Doctor's and staff were very friendly and helpful. The waiting room was very well organized with a live update feed so you know when the surgery is finished. Great job!
Hello there people, since I have lots of time sitting here at emergency at coxwell hopital, I thought it might be a great idea to write about this hospital. So I am sick came here a day before with a stomach pain, after 7 hrs or so I get to see the Doc, between the 7hr I was called to register sit for 3 hr then 2 hours later blood test, then at hour 7 see the Doc, ok now that's not the end, I needed to do more test, ok great, can't do it today come back tomorrow and make sure you call and make an appointment, ok great.. I am still on pain... 2 teynol and sent back home that's now about 8 hrs. Next day 6pm which is today did the test and was asked to go back to emergency and re register again Ok then again i waiting, for nurse and nothing yet its about 1.5hr and going, pain is still going on. This is the service I m getting God knows what's s next. Basically the procedures here is terrible and will not ask people to come here if you are dying or in faital pain. Now after 1 .5 hr something nurse called and ask the same questions as day before, and sent back to regristation again, again same questions, again, at this point I m loosing my patient, but since I have no choice I will have to wait lets see how bad does it gets, so now green zone is on hold so I will have to wait till it's not on hold and as per the lady at the desk I will have abut longer then usual.
Attitude of one female who works in emerg.
Doctors and nurses are good but waits and parking can be painful.
One of the best hospital. My daughter was born in this hospital and we got the best possible care.
Ive Been here for 4 Plus hours and still haven't seen a doctor, go somewhere else if you need emergency help
Wish I could give a lower rating the staff at this hospital treat psychiatric patients horribly. I have either been completely ignored by staff when I needed help or was labelled as "attention seeking" when I started to panic. Not to mention the psychiatrist they have who works the ER will actively try to dissway you from seeking help there and has described patients as "crazy" and described the psych ward as "older people walking around seeing things and acting out".
Great hospital!! The hospital staff are well informed, compassionate and more than helpful. A+++++
One of the worst hospital in Toronto. Rude stuff and very low service standard.
Truly blown away with the commitment shown by hospital staff. Every one is highly experienced and reacted very quickly. Unprecedented feeling!! Every body worked very hard!! Excellent work!! Proud to a father!! Walking on Air!!
Quick trip to Emerg last night with an infection scare. Every person we met was kind and efficient. In and out in under an hour. Superb service - thank you!
The emergency unit doctor was top-class. However, the triage nurse did not properly classify my condition, so my case was elevated reactively by one of the internal emergency nurses. The mental-health unit was also very helpful, but the true benevolence of some of the workers therein was suspect, at best. Some therapists were discouraging me from moving to Alberta to work, citing a supposed higher cost of living there. If this rationale had respected the concept of "net cost", it could have been legitimate. (The Alberta weather was the primary deterrent.) Wasn't the quantity of sick Ontarians sufficient to retain the employment of the Ontario healthcare workers? Excuse the extrapolation, but it was as if some of the workers were as sick as some of the patients.
Long wait but staff are friendly
Insanely crowded and heavily outdated hospital that provides a rather lukewarm hospitalization experience. Nurses don't change, so you may end up with a terrible one for a long time. Doesn't even offer hand towels. Surgeons were excellent though. Mixed experience overall.

Great hospital even during COVID times. Great outpatient services, staff are very friendly and so are the visitors. Also has some of the best specialists not just in the city but in Canada if you're lucky to end up referred to him/her. I really like the outpatient mental health services and I am waiting a year as required after sessions completed to be able to come back again. I prefer in-person rather then the new telephone appointments for mental health though but I understand it's due to the unprecedented times with this new novel virus. If you have to go through the emergency department however prepare for the longest wait times of your life. Otherwise great hospital plus I was born here 30+ years ago. Love coming here on a regular basis. Also my family doctor works and teaches here :)
Waited for 8 hours and eventually questioned what was going on to find out they lost my file. Hours ago.
If you love your health or your family please avoid this hospital . Not recommended it all . Specially nurses treat patients like slaves
I live in the neighbourhood and have been to Michael Garron Hospital at least 5 times in my life for different medical concerns. Never have I had a bad experience. Normal wait time frustrations but that is not the staffs fault. I have had better results from doctors at other hospitals and more thorough testing from Mount Sinai, or St. Mikes. For that reason I am taking 1 star off.
Great staff here. Medical and emergency staff.
Had a day surgery done yesterday and couldn't believe how rude, insensitive and physically rough I was treated by SOME of the nursing staff. Was treated horribly both pre and even worse post op. They did not care how much pain I was in, my mother was with me and even two male staff were laughing smirking becuse I was crying from pain until my mom took my phone and went to take pictures of them. A couple of the nursing staff were very nice and compassionate and I repeatedly thanked them. My surgeon was incredible it's too bad that he does his surgeries out of such a horrible hospital. When I mentioning the amount of pain I was in they treated me as if I was only seeking narcotics. When there is nothing on my record of ever having an addiction issue. It was insulting and degrading not to mention humiliating. If possible avoid this hospital at all costs worst hospital experience I have ever had. Human resources needs to deal with their staff
I’m honestly surprised by the amount of good reviews at this hospital, because clearly I have recieved a much different experience. The waiting time is terrible. I’ve been to other hospitals in the past and I thought that wait time was bad.... hahah, not until you come here. They are under staffed and are having people with serious emergenices wait for 8 hours plus. So ridiculous.
Don't go to this hospital for child birth....your experience will be the worst.... Doctors are good..but nurses are the worst behaviored ones....please don't opt this hospital for child birth
I did a Covid-19 test at Michael Garron Hospital yesterday. It wasn’t very busy but there still seemed to be a great deal of confusion as to where we were meant to wait or what line to stand it. To be fair, though, I only waited maybe ten minutes until someone saw me. Turned out, though, they had me waiting in front of the wrong doctor’s office on the other side of the room. It felt disorganized, to say the least. My main complaint, though, is as follows. I had plenty of anecdotal information from a number of friends that the Covid-19 test was pretty much painless and so this is what I expected. I lifted my head as the health care worker instructed and before I knew it I felt a searing pain in my nose and nasal cavity. It felt like she rammed that thing into my brain! Seriously though, my strong feeling is that this test should not have been as painful as it was. As it is, I will be reluctant to take a Covid-19 test again and if I do I will absolutely avoid Michael Garron hospital.
I had very good experience by visiting with emergency on January 11th. Thanks to the entire staff I had dealt with. Especially to the doctor Samantha Marriage who was very professional and helpful. Really appreciate it. R.S.
Could not be happier with the care I received today. Though I was there a total of 6 hours, they could tell I was in excruciating pain from the second I walked through the doors. They put me in a wheel chair and brought me to a bed right away. Within an hour of being there they put me on pain medication to make sure I was comfortable while waiting for the doctor. I went there with a reoccurring issue that has previously been dealt with by Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. The experience at Vic hospital was one of the most horrifying experiences of my life. To say that this was the complete opposite would be an understatement. The nurse that was caring for me under Dr.Proctor was amazing. I told her a lot of personal details and she didn't judge or look at me with a snide face once. She was understanding and listened to me and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Left the hospital a very happy woman and almost completely pain free. A huge thanks to Toronto East General Hospital.
Very quick to be in and out for tests
Staffs are good but Waiting time at the emergency takes a little while to wait.
My wife will have a surgery next week and have an appointment with pre-operative client today. She has a bit worry since it is a old hospital and have only 2.8 star at google reviews. But I found that it is totally not the truth when I left this hospital. From the moment we arrived, we felt everything good. The lady at the main entrance checking our vaccinated status, the young guy at lobby and the young lady at Admitting Department, they are really nice, polite and efficient. The registered nurse, her name is Barb, she is amazing. She is not just nice, professional, she is great, extremely friendly, caring. I write this review is just want to share my experience and let people know that if you do need to go to this hospital, you have nothing to worry. Finally, I wish my wife will have a perfect surgery next week.
Wonderful staff that helped in our time of need. Thank you.
**UPDATE** Here yet again for another emergency (baby girl had a seizure) and I stand firm on the below. We were treated with respect and a lot of kindness. We were reassured often and sure — we waited 6+ hours with a one year old (not a beautiful picture) but we made the most of it. Figured it out and tried our hardest to keep spirits up. Context is key when reading previous reviews as well as date. The hospital has done a lot over the last couple of years - I delivered our baby girl in May 2020 (with midwives from East York Midwives) and was transferred to Michael Garron Hospital Care afterwards due to recovery. Friends were definitely a bit shocked when I told them we would deliver here - - which speaks to the prejudice of this hospitals reputation. While the midwives who operate out of MG are not staff - they were incredible and available to you if you’re an expecting mama (be sure to contact midwives of east york as soon as you find out you’re pregnant). The nurses and care team at MG were ok - not the best, not the worst. My surgeon was lovely as was the Anaesthesiologist. My discharge nurse was tough but amazingly educational. Due to the pandemic and first time mom vibes I did find the lactation consultant a bit drab and unhelpful (two of them, actually). We opted for private consulting via the recommendation of our midwife. We also were admitted to the hospital on two separate occasions - one prior to birth and one after - both emergency situations and have nothing but amazing things to say about triage and staff. Sure, waiting around isn’t ideal but I’m thankful for free healthcare and the empathy and knowledge these saints pour in, day in and day out - despite a pandemic.
The care and surgery I received at this hospital for a corrective nose surgery was good. However I was lied to and encouraged to sign for a semi private room instead of a standard room for my overnight stay. Was told whatever my insurance doesn't cover Ohip should get the rest so no need to worry about paying anything. Complications after the surgery resulted in me having to stay 3 nights instead of just one. No one mentioned to me that I have to pay out of pocket for this at all and 2 months later one receiving a invoice from the hospital for a bill for 375$ since they charge 250$ a night but insurance only covered half. Giving people false information regarding room upgrades and not giving me any updates that yes I am indeed paying for the room and will continue to do so until I get discharged. If I was informed of such a detail I would have either spent more money and opted for a full private room so I can have visitors and half less covid exposure. Or I would have simply asked for a regular room knowing I was stuck in there for several nights instead of just one like originally planned. Explained to they're email contact what happened and they don't care. They just email me my signed rooms and say too bad u signed it you pay. Tldr. If they try and tell you oh upgrade to a semi or private room because you have insurance and if they don't cover it all Ohip will. Don't believe them.
This hospital is the worst, you wait forever to be seen, then they have more than one doctor see you and they don't have the same outlook of the situation. I sincerely regret going to this hospital and now I have to fight to win...If you can find another hospital that is not to far I highly suggest that you drive a little farther to get the better service. This hospital will have you sit in their waiting rooms and watch their videos of the 50 million dollar donation they received that will give them the opportunity to give better service, more equipment and more staff. This is bull #### and is a untruth. Just think twice before you go to this hospital.
Repeatedly proven to provide poor service delivery that is not timely or efficient.
18 weeks pregnant and had a complete placenta previa. Ended up going to TEGH after very heavy bleeding and pain. They didn't see me for 5 hours nor did they give me any pain killers even though I asked several times. They also didn't tell me what is going on and asked me to come back in another 6 hours for an appointment they booked for me, it was horrible. The maternity ward deserves about 4 stars but during that time I was 2 weeks too early to be admitted there.
I delivered my baby girl at Michael Garron maternity ward on Oct 1rst. My experience was amazing, me and my husband are very grateful to the doctor, nurses and midwife that took care of us there. Specially Dr. Badmos, a most reassuring and professional man, Sarah Wilson, the attending midwife, who was there supporting us, and K Osman, a very tender and nice nurse that was present during active labor and delivery. Overall our experience with the personnel and the facilities was a very pleasant one from the admission time to the discharge. I also took the prenatal, breastfeeding and postnatal classes at this hospital and can recommend them as very useful, interesting, and with updated information.
Horrible. I waited with my mom in the exam room for 3 hours they say someone will come in a bit but its been 3 hours I'm not waiting no more also very rude doctors no respect whatsoever. C'mon what happened?
I have done my surgery there... the nurses are so disrespectful and means. I was very shocked!!!!. I will report it before I leave this hospital. Doctors are good... but nurses are very unprofessional and rude.
If you aren’t going to die within 20 minutes, I’d suggest keep driving to sunnybrook hospital. I’ve had a much better experience there. Over 4 hours and still waiting here at Michael Garron Hospital. Approaching 5 hours and finally in room waiting for doctor but I notice a small needle lying on the floor :s
I was only there once to translate for a friend. The facility is old but the care is excellent.
i actually am micheal baroon and i likje this hospital because it is named after me. 10/10
Hey Michael Garron I was there today in your emergency ward I was expecting to wait I was expecting total turmoil and chaos with this covid pandemic.. The wait might have been a little longer than normal. The chaos and turmoil that I expected and feared did not exist. If your over worked tired and burnt out , and I am not sure how you would not be You never showed it .KUDOS !! I have never been treated better. YOUR all FREAKIN FANTASTIC THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING THERE GUS
Worst wait times in the City of Toronto.
Came to pick up my older sister and her son ,my nephew took a dental surgery, he was in hospital for several hours. The hospital was quite old, looks like 1980's hospital environment. The information desk was helpful. Doctor P who took my nephew's surgery was a very positive, professional and beautiful lady. After my brother in law drove them here he need to fly to US for a business meeting, doctor's suggestion is have a person take care of your kids while driving home in case some emergency like vomiting. Because my nephew's turn was in the early morning, Doctor P came out and told us the surgery was very successful, and let us relax and go have some good breakfast while my nephew was observed. It was a good experience over all.
I was here more than twice excellent service and friendly staff.
I came with my premature baby who is not responding and no one came to even triage till hours and all what I see here is stuff doing sleep shift and covering each other I am doctor so I know what’s going on here. I will treat them .
Cut my hand pretty bad at work and drove myself here. After a 45 min wait dr phillips put 3 stitches on my wound. The next day I noticed that all the knots came undone and the would re opened. Worst ER doc ever.
Excellent hospital. Clean, efficient, helpful staff, easy access via TTC. Only problem is a lack of parking if you drive there.
My mom has a scheduled surgery at 12 noon. Waited 2.5 hours she finally got in the operation room. Horrible wait time, very poorly arranged.
Excellent service. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Took time to explain processes.
Friendly nurses, professional doctor, they also provided free lunch for patients!
Long waiting time i saw my friend crying loudly in emergency
Waited 5 hours with a chronic back pain only for a student doctor to tell me to go and buy regular tylenol. This is after i told i 've been prescribed strong painkillers and nothing is working. Is this what we pay enormous taxes for?
Worst hospital ever ! The smell , the wait , everything. Emergency room took 4 hours to see a freakn doctor , why is it called emergency room if only one doctor is available for the whole hospital department . I’m never coming here again.
I’m not ungrateful but they need to bring change to the hospitals in Toronto/Canada a place that should that can bring serenity, certainty, control, real time organized immediately Doctors available with more staff to spare, and moreover a proper building and medical equipment of the 21st century. Toronto has so many big condos dedicate 1 to become a condo/hospital just as a example!
Most truly compassionate hospital. Ty
I had a bad and good experience at the ER here. Standard hospital, medicine isn’t always fun but it helps a lot. Appreciate all the workers helping fight COVID-19.
I had a great time experience with Kidney stone removal with Dr Kell and his staff they were very helpful allot of people told me to keep away from this hospital but I must say their urology department is very good. For those that do not know a east General is the only hospital with the DaVinci Surgical Robot in Canada which is shared by Sunnybrook. And finally but not least the staff in the day surgery recovery room are very good. I have to give a special mention about Chris whom makes everyone feel special.
Father in law went in as covid patient with pneumonia. Nurse doesn’t provide any updates on health after having him sit in emergency ward for 24 hours. Says for confidentiality they can’t provide information over the phone. You can’t visit either. So are you supposed to be kept in dark? Don’t they teach compassion and empathy in nursing school? The attitude on the phone as if we are criminals and they are taking care of inmates. Avoid this hospital ER and file a complaint. They are taking advantage of covid restrictions and forgetting their duties as care specialists. Just horrible.
Every time I have had to go the the emergency room I have had very fast very professional service. Thank you to all nurses and doctors
My second visit. Service is pretty decent, the wait times for results are very frustrating.
Good hospital taking care of all sops related to covid_19
So They have really great in person customer service. Whenever I try to reach them they never pick up any call even during their working hour. So I am bit disappointed in terms of their customer service on phone.
Horrible. Have been waiting for 4 hours and counting while my wife has severe pain.
Including with my two sons, I have been here a number of times and have always been impressed with the quality of care. Thanks TEGH!
Avoid this hospital. It is dirty and old. And the doctors are terrible. They don't communicate with their patients or their patients family. They made so many horrific mistakes with the care of my mother and there is no recourse. No one to talk to. No one does anything. No way to get a second opinion. This hospital is a death trap. And they don't care about their patients. A few good nurses. But stay away from Dr. Michael Warner. He is arrogant and has a God complex. No bedside manner. No empathy. All he cares about are his followers on social media. He needs to learn how to talk to people in real life. And focus on his patients instead of his next video on Covid.
If your eye physician has referred you to this hospital for lens replacement surgery for cataract, exercise some extreme caution with this place. The surgery is covered by your OHIP card and so is your lens, unless you alot for the high performance IQ lens. My mother chose the lens that is covered, however on the day of the surgery when we registered at the front desk, she was told she needed to pay $170 "for the lens and surgery." My mother didn't have the money so I did end up paying the amount through MasterCard. After the surgery and follow up with the eye physician, we questioned why we needed to pay only to find out we were charged for the IQ lens when we had chose the lens covered by OHIP. The lens implanted in my mother's eye was the no charge lens. Doctor has been assisting with the refund, 3 weeks later the hospital has yet to send over a statement showing the refund. Be very cautious of this hospital, staff are either not educated properly or they're charging patients money for lenses that are covered by OHIP! Unacceptable...
Long waits, no concern about people, apathetic medical staff, basically everything you don’t wish for when you need any sort of help is all in this one place.
My mother was admitted in ICU. Micheal Garron ICU is absolutely trash. Management is poor and Nurses are all Unprofessional. I don’t want to recommend anyone to admit their Patients. ICU department is like Fish market.
I highly recommend a New Hospital if your going to any hospital because I was 36 weeks 3 days 4cm diolated they wanted to send me home knowing I was high risk pregnancy my son had johndus they sent him home 36 hours later knowing he had health issues. So My Spouse And I took Him Back To The HOSPITAL for THEM to Admit Him Again and Telling Us He Didnt Have Issue We THEN fought to Have Him Transfered For Over A Week Finally THEY Transfered Us From MGH And Hes Now Recieveing Amazing Care. I'm updating this as of july 19 I have to say bugging the board of directors and getting a lawyer involved was the best choice we transported my son to sick kids and within 3 weeks was home gaining weight and doing amazing. MGH Wouldnt let me bath my child or cloth him for more then 8 hours and sick kids was truly a blessing
I called the hospital the front desk transfered me to emergency. I asked this rude lady at emergency a question about ENT doctor, she could give me a proper reply to which when I repeated my question she just hung up on me. Very irresponsible and inhuman way of dealing with people who are in pain.
My mother and I had awful experience at this hospital... I don’t recommend this place for anyone. The staffs are burned out and helpless. We waited for about 11 hours to get checked... seriously this is not normal.
One of the slowest hospitals in all of toronto, do not go to the emergency here at all costs
Never seen a hospital team treat patients this way. Not everyone there were like this but I saw multiple people treat this poor kid in pain as of he was nothing and were outwardly cruel to him. Service Canada told me to come in and the drs here treated me like a joke as I wasn't in pain anymore when I came but still needed to be checked out. They made other patients wait bleeding in the halls and others crying in their chairs
This place is absolutely terrible. I took my mom here when she was complaining of stomach pains. She had an aaortic aneurysm and the hospital was aware of that. The intake nurse decided it wasn't serious enough and sent her to the green zone. My mother started puking and just writhing in pain. when I told the nurse how her condition had worsened I was told the doctor will see her when her turn comes up.When she was finally seen by a med student, I heard her point out to the nurse that you could feel the aneurysm through her stomach. My mother got moved to the red zone. She was located right in front of the nurses station. She wanted the curtains wide open so I left them open for her. The doctor wanted to talk to myself and my siblings about the options because there is no vascular surgeon at this hospital. When we returned about 15 minutes later we walk through the door to see that my mom was white as a ghost as she had passed away. The doctor looked at the ECG and she had died 11 minutes earlier. That meant that the nurses had ignored all the buzzers and the tones and didn't even bother to look up to see someone had passed away. Now there is nothing they could have done but I really wish they could have shown the respect to anyone going through that. it also wasn't fair for other families that were in that area because you didn't have to have medical training to know my mom had passed away. The nurses who work on the ward floors do an adequate job. They don't go out of their way to do anything extra. The nurses that work in intensive care are absolutely amazing. In my dad's case, he was in an adult diaper and the nurses would change them That very often. That did not happen any other area of the hospital. Palliative care is the absolute worst. For those of you who don't know what it is, people get put there when they have 30 days or less to live. In my dad's case they had posted a sign that he needed to be checked on every 30 minutes. The reason for that is he didn't have the ability to call out or ring the buzzer. This never happened. That was all for show. They would check on him every 4 hours. If you have a loved one that needs to go to this unit, I have heard that Bridgepoint Hospital is the way to go. We were there around the clock to be the voice for him. The nurses computers face outwards on this floor. So you actually got to see the fact that they are just clowning around on YouTube, Facebook and such. It really is atrocious. I wanted to post a couple of pictures for you about how bad the service is in this unit but there is a photography policy and I don't want to get in trouble for that. I will say that there is a Doctor Phillips that was on this floor and he was really amazing. He discussed everything with us when he was on duty and my dad was on this floor. Although we've always gone to this hospital, I think in the future I will be looking to go elsewhere when I need to go to the hospital. I am still in shock at the fact that my parents were denied dying with dignity.
Good hospital took good care of me and did so with respect and in good time thanks again! ????
Staff are more afraid of being wrong than doing their jobs. I waited 2 hours for something that was ready to go but the nurse was too proud to admit her mistake and it wasn’t until her subordinate pointed out her mistake that I could leave. Also saw a bunch of nurses on the IKEA website doing personal shopping while the waiting room is literally over flowing with no more seats. It’s very clear that cutbacks have burnt the staff out and caused administration to hire some cheaper less qualified labour. I don’t like how my tax money is being used. Also there was garbage all over the floors everywhere
COVID Assessment. Friendly & efficient. Wait-time 0 minutes.
I gave birth to my first son here and the birthing experience was amazing. Staff were first class. Accommodations were not what we wanted because it was really busy. The stay over night was awful, however. My son never had a chance to sleep. Staff entered our room consistently. My son needed many blood tests and one nurse pricked my newborn multiple times while performing the blood draw incorrectly. We stayed 1 night in the paediatric ward, which was amazing and educational for me as a first time mom. The Emergency ward is a joke. Beyond understaffed. Arrived at 6:30 with my 4 month old. Didn’t leave until. 3am. Saw a doctor who referred us to the a Pediatrician at 1:30am. Do not come here for an emergency.
Good experience, great staff, and reasonable waits for a Emergency Room.
Great hospital. Thank You.
My sister gave birth in this hospital and was treated like absolute garbage. The nurses literally threw her around and told her that her kids were way more important. I also had a terrible experience. I unfortunately talked to Dr. Larry Chad, who dismissed my issues entirely. Horrible hospital, please avoid it at all costs. Doesn't matter what you're there for...they don't care.
Such great professional people working there, they made my stay so smooth!
The emergency wait times are at least 2-3 hours every time regardless of time of day/night. The mental health out patient is horrible, not offered any help just a controlled substance to someone who has admitted to having a pill addiction problem. The crisis center offers nothing but more mental health problems.
Went to get a COVID-19 test. Made my appointment online in like 5 mins. Went to the place and everyone treated me nicely. Left the place within 15 after getting there and my results came the very next day.
Your web Site does not have enough information. Individual depts. should be listed , with their phone numbers. Take a look at the website for Toronto Gen. Other than that, your service is great.
That is not a hospital not sure what it is ?
I spent 6 hours there only to get prescribed Advil for serious pain even though they already knew Advil didn't work, if you're under 30 with dyed hair forget about being treated like a human being and get ready to be spoken to like a child! Absolute waste of time I'm more stressed coming out of that experience than it helped. Completely biased and unfair treatment
Suzanne at the information desk should not be working at the front desk. She is rude and unhospitable.
Pre and post care on my Knee surgery was great. Highly recommend. Nurses, doctors and admin staff were very caring and helpful.
If you have an elderly parent don't bring them to this hospital. I brought in my mother around 10am by ambulance but she was not a priority so she had to wait a few hours. During that time No lunch tray was given out to any of the patients that were being treated in triage inside so she had not eaten in eight or nine hours! Both of us were fully vaccinated from covid and one of the dr's made a comment that I should Not be there. When I saw 2 other families one woman with her husband and another elderly man with his wife and son in the triage section. So why are they allowed to be inside? And I am told Not to be there? Did you ask them as well if they were fully vaccinated from covid or was just me you asked cause we are asian? If this is how you want to be treated by the staff here feel free to go here.
Great place if your not feeling well.
I think Michael Garron Hospital provides excellent healthcare. I have attended this hospital over the years for medical issues such as fractures, childbirth and major surgery. My daughter who was born here was treated for childhood asthma and surgery as an adult. We were always treated with dignity and respect. The staff at the hospital are committed to providing the best healthcare possible. The only improvement I can see is for people not to overload emergency unit with minor complaints. It has a backup effect on other units such as diagnostics.
I am writing this review so that people know where they are going for their treatment. On August 19th i fall down and hurt my ankle and next day i went to emergency Toronto Michael Hospital. After all the formalities and procedure first they did X-ray and when my turn came the doctor Elaine Xie checked the report and told me no fracture and i am good to go. I told her its painful. Then she went back and came to me and told me its a fracture and put me in a cast. No medicine suggested. Later i got an appointment with the fracture clinic of same hospital after 2weeks. 2weeks later again X-ray done and Dr. John lee saw the report, removed the cast and said there is no fracture and i will be walking with the crutches and take rest. Till that time none of the doctor told me what is the reason of my pain and what is the treatment for it. Later i took advice from my family doctor and took an appointment from another orthopaedics surgeon. So finally my treatment started after 3months of my injury. All these months i was just taking rest, my pain was only increasing. Doctor Elaine Xie and Doctor John Lee had no idea what diagnosis they did to me and under what basis. For their wrong diagnosis i am not working, without money for such a long time.
I had a great experience, my wait time was a little more than an hour to get through triage and then in to see the doctor.. the triage nurse was delightful, she made me feel at ease. The doctor was friendly and dealt with me quickly - overall I was outta there in less than 2 and a half hours, faster than most of my experiences at other hospitals.
Waited hours so far for my Son who’s having a hard time breathing. This hospital is a complete joke and waste of tax payers money. Shame on these staff and nurses
If you are going for a COVID test, GO ELSEWHERE! Their computer system is prone to shutting down, it’s been days I have tried to get my results and all I am told is keep trying, call back, and if you think we need to upgrade our system call Doug Ford. Seriously I was told that bu a switchboard operator! Don’t waste your time, waiting in line ups for an hour and then not be able to get your results, just go on the net and find another location.
Waited exactly 5 hours in the green zone. Gave urine, asked the nurse if blood will be required for tests, she said no. Two hours later I got called to give blood. 3 hours later I was called to be told what was wrong, and expected to see a doctor. Never saw the doctor, instead a training student came gave me my prescription while rushing and trying to get rid of me in the fastest way possible. PS: 1 doctor oversees the green zone (30-40 waiting patients), while there is about 10 - 15 security guards and police officers
If there was any winner of being WORST hospital then TEGH would be the Crown holder!! Nobody knows nothing, very good at giving run around..kept extra charge for patients necessary items but after 6 hrs nobody delivered it. Had to go after nurses after nurses to get done patients need!!! I was not expecting much as I had previous bad experiences with this hospital but the new experience is worse...hope my patient would come back home without too much bad experience.
This hospital is horrible in so many ways. I will never go back again. There r a few good staff there but not many.
My husband is there for lung surgery(cancer) we drove down from Barrie. I was impressed by the intake procedure, every staff member was very helpful. Then came ICU, well things changed. My husband waited over 15 minutes for some water. I realize it is a stressful area to work but one of his assigned nurses was standoffish with us, while the other was friendly and helpful. Parking situation is horrendous, I sat in the parking lot waiting for a space. My health does not allow me to walk great distances , so waiting was my only option. His surgeon was terrific, took time to talk with us, and I noticed the same of the other surgeons, today he will be on the floor, see how the staff is .
My husband is a kidney patient doctor P CHAN and her stuff have been given my husband excellent care
I cant believe the waiting time in emergency is 6 hours. What is the logic of having a emergency when its has to be worse than a walk in. I have a critical situation and it can be life threatening i have spoken to so many people that my situation can lead to horrific and i am still waiting here to see a doctor. If anything later happens and i get infection, this entire thing with the hospital will definitely be ugly. I will never advise this place to any one ever. Most awful experience and yet to get treated been waiting for 6 hours, and its so annoying. I swear if i get infection ot anything this hospital has to be responsible despite of being telling my situation over and over.
A 3rd world country care. If your child life matters , stay away from this hospital. and from PAMELA AUSTIN . The level of care and quality standards are an embarrassment to our healthcare system. Our premature baby was transferred to the NICU and was handled by a nurse named Pamela Austin. This unskilled and untrained nurse failed to follow protocol and left my daughter unfed for almost a quarter of the day. It was discovered only once my wife arrived at the hospital to check on our daughter. Such a level of negligence in this department should be unacceptable to any parent that cares about their child's development at this stage of their life. There are wonderful other hospitals in the city - make sure you are not transferred to here.
As an immigrant it is difficult without family as is let alone life changing events . But the staff at Michael Garron becomes your family and takes care of you - A big hug and thanks!! Amazing hospital staff & a clean, safe, efficient and organized place. Thanks to Kambili who recommended to Stella. Doctor Badmos, Stella and her team explained and engaged with us until we made the right choice. Next day Marilou, Doctor Ornstein and Cassandra did a phenomenal job to help us through such stressful times. Simone took over later and still helps us with questions/concerns on this new journey. Christine goes beyond her duty and you can see her in each & every detail she pays attention too. Kind of hard to track each one of your name - Apologies - I want to thank each and one of you who visited us later to check blood sugar & Jaundice. Keep up the good work!!!!
Every staff member for a surgical procedure were excellent.
I always wait so long and they don’t even give me medication they just always want to take my blood.
Very very low service and One of the bad hospital in Toronto I just visited for small thing with out taking any test it took 5 hours they
No option for zero star rating. Worse hospital in Toronto. Waited over 6 hours and had to leave in worse condition than I arrived.
Worst emergency department I have ever seen. I wont even give one star. I was bleeding when I got there and I had severe pain. They just changed the dressing several times since I had bleeding and after 7 hours they left me with an open wound and they did not even stitch my wound and they said since it is related to plastic department they will not do anything for that.
Today I went to get tested for covid, the staff near registration desk are very rude and very disrespectful.
doctor was nice , good experience
Horrible doctors, my mom had a trach. done here and therefore couldn't speak. 3 days so days she's been there so far and still not a single call from the doctor. My mom is allowed visitors for 1 hour a day and in that time the doctor is never available either. Patient's family have a right to know what is happening , given that we are no longer able to stay by their side.
Completely understaffed and definitely doesn't receive enough funding. Where did the 50 million the Garron's donated go? Definitely didn't go into renovating the hospital because it still looks like a run down prison. Most of the nurse and staff working at MGH just work for a living and their miserable doing it!. Their motivation for getting into this industry was not to help humans.( ROBOTS) But instead they are working at a job/"career" they hate and all for the social title and pay check. And we wonder why more people visit the emergency room semi sick with non life threatening symptoms and leaving with more complications or not leaving at all! I feel embarrassed as a Canadian that our health care has reached a low where even immigrants from poor countries can't believe this is our health care system and say they received better care back home. That is enough to show how poor Canadian healthcare is. If it's not, I suggest you take a visit to your local hospital and just observe for yourself! Collectively we as humans need to wake up from this trance we're in. And start thinking out of the box.
I am vaccinated; they would not allow me in to pick up my partner who had just had surgery. I showed my proof of vaccination + drivers license but they said I needed a health card. I’ve never heard of this.
Please avoid it if u want your life
Dr.Frecker is amazing.
Thank you Natasha for being friendly and great MRI experience! Also, I had good experience about Emergency Service in this hospital! Thank you all the team!
I went for a covid test, and was in and out in literally five minutes. All staff were helpful and efficient. I was concerned about the test being uncomfortable, but it's mildly irritating for about five seconds. I'd highly recommended going there for a covid test.
Terrible. People had warned me but unfortunately I am a slow, got to learn it for myself kind of person. Well I sure learned my lesson .... the very hard way. Doubtless there are people who have have good experiences there, after nobody or hospital can be all bad. But what I really really regret is that I have warning signs along the way and I ignored them. If you see something, report it, because I you never know when it is too late.
I am extremely impressed with the professionalism of the doctors and nurses with our visit today, October 9, 2019. Nurse Grace (post anesthetic) you were courteous and kind. Thanks for preserving my love one dignity post surgery in the recovery room. Dr Groll (Urologist) thanks for keeping me posted prior and post the procedure. Thanks for explaining and ensuring that I understood the information imparted. I was able to track my love one with updated information posted on the on the tracking system in the waiting room. Excellent care. Thanks to all the staff including the volunteers.
Long wait, they really don’t care about patients. I went there to my father for a chest x-ray I was waiting for 7 hours for a X-ray. It was worse experience
Thank you for a great experience! Fast and efficient health care service.
I did the day surgery today and when I arrived home I would like to write review about My Doctor (Dr Ornstein)She is niceest Dr ever see professional ,kind,...and the staffs unbelievable how they are nice and care about paintent. Thank you so much Dr.Orstein and all ladies in G6 .
used the er recently for a fracture; reasonable wait; caring, professional care
Not impressed with the lack of empathy by the administration of this hospital. I have a loved one in the palliative care unit in Michael Garron currently. Two people recently tested positive on the palliative care floor and the infected patients are being kept on the floor which puts the others at risk. And not only that, but now all the others are being punished in their last few weeks of life by not being allowed visitors and seeing their own family. Such a pathetic way of dealing with this situation. I may have to go public with this and expose it to the media!!
I was overwhelmed with the kindness of the staff, all my life I have dealt with different hospitals , here and in Quebec. Excellent
incredible! I had an appointment with Patient Records (last name: Norton) and she agreed me at 1pm. I arrived almost 30 minutes before - no one was there and I was asked to wait till her lunch break was over. I ended up waiting till 4pm and no one showed up- I tried calling multiple times and all went to VM.
I arrived at the covid assessment clinic at 1:00 p.m. and there were only 15 people before me. And now it's 2:26 p.m. and there are 6 people before me and more than 20 after me. Some countries conduct the test in a drive-thru like a fast food service. Here we're so behind and very slow.
Covid patient. Nightmare ER staff, yelled at me for their mistakes, put in an IV (hooked up to NOTHING) in incorrectly, refused to take it out when they finally did it squirted blood on my arm, they never wiped it. Eventually I left because they refused to tell me if they'd do the tests my family doctor ordered (they missed them the week before despite them being very obvious), actually not a single staff member I asked about the tests DIDN'T get combative/yell at me.The entire hospital is ancient, I've heard from many that the workplace culture is toxic. Go to any other hospital.
Over 3 hours behind on covid testing for an appointment. Very poorly run facility
Hi, I am writing this review for Diane Aigcheson. She had bladder surgery on Jan 6 in MGH with Dr Groll. She was super happy with how things went. Super great feedback to the nurse's who did a great job and treated her well. Everything was so great and she really really appreciates everyone!
My son was having a stroke, he was mis diagnosed, rough up by the front desk clerk and then sent home .He was 21 years old he is now 46 years, he doesn't have a good quality of life. He spent one month in another hospital and another month in a rehab .He had to learn to walk and talk all over like a baby he cannot work, he is on disability he cannot afford a decent place to live.
2 weeks ago I had a very bad slip on the ice and broke my ankle in 3 places. An ambulance had to be called. The severity of my break was something I’ve only seen in movies and it was traumatizing. I experienced such care and compassion from the team at the hospital . The paramedics who were so kind and gentle . They made me as comfortable as they could and made sure my wife came along . The nurses and doctors in emerge were amazing and kind. The overall moral and energy throughout the hospital during my visit was unreal. It made my traumatizing accident bearable having such kind and caring staff helping me. I have enormous gratitude for the staff I encountered that day . It truly shows how amazing the staff is from the paramedics, nurses, doctors, the friendly porters and technicians. I can’t say enough and my family is so grateful ❤️
Horrible experience had a miscarriage got there at 2:30 left at 9 didn’t even give me a fresh pad
After all the reviews I had seen on here negatively communicating about their experience and service expectations; I was a bit nervous to come here. When I arrived,I was almost immediately taken into triage and registration; and sent off to the nurses desk. I did, however, strongly enforce the fact that I had got poor service at a previous hospital just days before going here; so like reverse psychology it can almost be expected that they want to live up to a better name\standard. Overall the experience was quite welcoming and SOMEWHAT efficient as I overheard scattered management between the nurses. One did stand out, Christie Anne (sp?); she was really communicative with all her patients and although her face looked so tired and haggard like a zombie she drove a spike of energy to most people. All this being said, I'm going to leave this a 3 star in lieu of my next future visit. We will see
Experience has been good so far... Service is a bit slower than expected... But very good
the staff at the NICU special care nursery are amazing took good care of my baby . Thank you everyone . special Thanks to dr. Tara Mac Leod and Dr Popovic . love Lilly ????
I am just going to say that they told me to go to a room and wait the doctor and I am pretty sure that they forgot that I was there because I waited for more than one hour and nobody came into I had to go out and look for the doctor despite my pain.
As far as hospitals go within the GTA, Michael Garron Hospital is one of the best. The emergency room is well equipped with lots of friendly staff. From the doctors, nurses, and ancillary staff -- all of them have been super helpful. The wait was not long and I was able to get my concerns addressed without being rushed. From their day surgery unit, covid 19 assessment centre, to their cath lab, the staff for the most part have been caring, empathetic and friendly. The doctors here are truly experts in what they do and I really appreciate the confidence they inspire in their patients. The issue with this hospital is parking. It is super hard to find parking here. Parking lots are usually full and finding parking quickly especially in an emergency is a challenge. Also, there isn't much of a food court here, and the hospital is really showing its age. Hopefully, once the construction is done here, these issues will be resolved.
From the moment I arrived I was treated well by a professional triage staff. They processed us new arrivals in a quick manner. A shout out to them The ER staff reacted to my health issue efficiently and effectively. I was initially unresponsive and they dealt with it as skilled staff that they are. Another shout out!! The health circumstances required me to be admitted into the Urology department. This staff also were a top notch team. They were responsive to my frequent needs with a caring disposition. Awesome job to one and all!!!
Enzo and Dawn have been amazing caring for my Mother. Empathetic, caring. They go above and beyond every time. Just can't say enough about the quality of care they provide. Both on H7 and B2 floor.
Hospitals are almost always guaranteed to have a bad rating by default. Except for the possible exception of childbirth nobody goes to hospital for a good time. However, with the lack of organisation and the long waiting times, without no consideration of appointment times given, a poor review is well deserved.
zero point for emergency service , 10 hrs waiting nothing.. they waited to me die..
Everytime I'm forced to deal with the female nurses in this hospital I leave feeling angry. Is it too hard to act like a professional ???
Don't let the old brick building fool you! Great staff! Nurses and Docs are awesome at the maternity. We had a great experience there. Thanks everyone for your time and great service!
Emergency room is a long wait as all ers usually are, however staff managed to catch a small tumour of cancer that was unrelated to why I was there and I honestly would not be here today if it werent for their team.
Went to the Er twice during the pandemic for persistent cough that was keeping me up all night. The xray tech was nice and so was the nurse who drew my blood. When the doctor came, he refused to enter the room and didnt even listen to my chest with a stethoscope, he dismissed me and said I had covid and ordered a test. Came back negative. Went back again 2 months later thinking they have to listen to me now, again, dismissed and told I have covid by the same doctor. Got another test and of course it was negative. Went to a walk in clinic. Turns out, I have bronchitis and was prescribed two puffers. Wondering how many sleepless nights and chest pains I could have avoided if the doctor would have just came in the room and listened to what I had to say instead telling me I was infected with the covid virus TWICE!!!
No sense of priority or proper triage procedure in the emergency department this evening. Sitting with 8/10 abdominal pain next to someone who is there for a cold. Was told another few hours to be seen.
Sure some long-ish waits but nonetheless a very good hospital that is equipped with many different tools and are not short on anything (to my knowledge)
stay away this is the worst hospital in toronto!!
they leave ppl on dutty floors. I stick.up for said person then denied service. I call back today just now, they wont give me my appointment Info. the only good thing about them is that they let me have a previous surgeon. 0 if I could no jokes.avoid at all costs
They should get some new doctors... 1 doctor with 100 patients will definitely take 6 hours of waiting... Especially for kids... they should take it seriously ... my nephew 22 months only ... who fell and his head was bleeding ... took 2 hours too see him... like seriously? So called "EMERGENCY"
Kind but overworked nurses. It is 8:40am and I've been waiting to see a doctor since 4am. The person who is "first in line" has been here since 3am... No doctor to be seen. The worst part is that there are no beds in the rooms, so we only get a chair. I have never been to this hospital before, and don't plan to again.
Review on behalf of dad: I have received the utmost excellent care under DR. MOHAMMAD ZIA and his team. Recently I was referred to Dr. Zia due to chest and shoulder pain. Upon seeing my Angiogram results, Dr. Zia and his team recognized I was in a dire state and did their upmost best to give me immediate, and best treatment and care. This included arranging for a specialist at Sunnybrook hospital to conduct a procedure for me; all within a 24 hour period. During this entire ordeal, everyone involved took good care of me, attended to all my needs, constantly managed my condition, and treated me with dignity and respect. If it was not for Dr. Zia’s quick decision making and response time, I don’t know what would of happened to me. I am grateful for Dr. Zia’s expertise, care, and decision making. Thank you Dr. Zia.
My five year twin boy had an emergency and were sent to this hospital. We started waiting from 1 pm and still are waiting I this early midnight. The nurses are indifferent and the doctors are low in efficiency.
Worse hospital every, went there waited for 5hrs finally spoke to a nurse then she tells me the doctor already seen me, so I finally seen the doctor told the doctor what happen he ask nurses and there were all pointing fingers at each other like a butch of kindergarten. Then the doctor smile at the nurses and said will talk about it later. Obviously nothing happen to the nurses the doctors probably screwing of them. You also got this rude ass nurse taking your info at the emergency didn't get her name but she fat and in her 50's .
Why can't u go to the hospital/emergency with my husband ? When u hurt his hand .... when did it start , no vistors...I am his wife ....
Stay far away. I visited this hospital December 31,2020. My autistic grandson was injured. My daughter and I were there for seven hours. After xrays an MRI and several tests Dr. Cameron said that she couldnt find anything wrong with him. However she insisted he go in an ambulance to Sick Childrens hospital by ambulance. She refused him food and water as she said he may need surgery??? Surgery even though they couldnt find anything wrong with him?? When I insisted that we will take him to the hospital. She than said Sick Kids will call Childrens Aid on us if we do??? She than called for security?? We weren't rude or disrespectful in any way. My daughter ended up going to Sick Kids and they released my grandson after 40 minutes. The doctor told her no matter what not to go back to that hospital. He also said that Dr Cameron I insisted on the ambulance and not them.
I really hope never need this service
Waiting over 7 hours ( and still waiting ) for test results is ridiculous and completely unfair. Feeling very frustrated. I just want to know what's wrong with me.
Great experience with the ER. I had a scary experience and everyone I encountered was helpful and caring. Very compassionate. My nurse was absolutely amazing. I had worked at the Scarborough General for years. Even with myself and family being familiar with many of the staff there, there is NO COMPARISON! The service and treatment was quick, efficient, and the staff truly took the time to LISTEN. They went above and beyond the required and expected level.of service. I hope I will not need another visit to an ER, but if so, I would not hesitate to return.
Do NOT visit this hospital for any sort of emergencies. Had the worst experience of my life there last night. Cannot believe the guy working at the emergency room check-in works AT A HOSPITAL. Please, if you can read this, go ANYWHERE else. My family doctor was baffled by the story I told him about this place and mentioned that "anyone working in a hospital should be trying their absolute best to help whoever walks in the door", which was the exact opposite experience that I had. I was cryingin painppain much the whole time (I've had 8 surgeries) and literally no-one helped me. People did not even answer my questions. I stayed in the waiting room for over an hour (thanks for making my ulcer worse folks at emergency) before walking out and spending the night in bed in agonizing pain. Please, PLEASE. Go to ANY other hospital. You will regret going here for any sort of emergencies. Trust me, and please, be safe. You're very loved and no-one (except the people working at this location) wants you to be in any sort of pain and agony. I hope you can get help ???? my best of wishes
The staff is very friendly and they try to make you comfortable.A big hug and thanks
Dr. Hany Sawires and his assistants are great ! They are professional, friendly and efficient. I took the colonoscopy with them today at the East General Hospital in just half an hour, and I don't feel anything after I wake up, then they told me it's done. Just can't say enough about them. Thank you so much!
Not a long time ago I had a surgery in this hospital. I was surprised how everything was organized and planned for the surgery. I was a bit disappointed with one nurse after my surgery, as anesthesia was very strong and I couldn’t wake up. She couldn’t understand why I couldn’t open my eyes or say anything. My glands were removed and I couldn’t even say a word, the only thing that I could do is to move my hand to ask for more pain reliever. My another trip to this hospital happened when I came to do my Covid test. I expected to stand in the long lines , even though I had an appointment, but everything was very fast and nice.
It almost 3am and we been here since 10:30pm. To be honest, nurse came by twice, 1st time took blood, and 2nd time redid a ECG test. If u going to pay $45 ambulance service, better ask for somewhere else. Yes all Emerg are similar, if u can avoid this hospital. AVOID. My biggest mistake.
Hello. During the summer of 2016, I had a huge laceration on my right forearm. There was quite a delay in the wait room and the nurses didn't seem to take an active interest to those needing medical attention. The ER doctor started to close the arm, without asking or explaining my options of treatment. Once again this area too, is becoming a GHETTO area. It's was much nicer 24 years ago or earlier.
Katherine here - using hubby's google account so I can give this hospital a great review. At emerge yesterday morning and couldn't really have asked for a better experience. From triage to registration, to the nurses and doctor and med student, service was efficient, skilled, friendly and happy. Yes, this hospital is old, but that in no way affects the care provided. Let's face it...no trip to a hospital is fun. And, for the staff, dealing with sick, anxious and often demanding patients can't be much fun either. So to have a relatively pleasant experience speaks volumes to how well this team of medical staff is doing.
No clear streamlining for patients with minor, uncomplicated illnesses vs. those with severe illnesses; long wait times. Hospital does not have a water fountain (charges $2.75 for a plastic bottle of water) and only has junk food in waiting room. Staff were reasonably nice.
Please do not buy anything from the vending machines at this hospital bcuz they will steal your money. This morning, I bought a small Lays Classic Potato chips from the vending machine it cost me $6.25. The actual price on the machine is $2. I tired to call them but no one is answer. Overall visiting this hospital was chaos.
Very friendly staff in the ER , as well as dr.dvali in the hand plastic clinic and her nurse all very kind ! Short wait times. I didn't even have to ask for directions I was there twice and each time a staff seen me looking at the sign trying to figure out where to go and came up to me and happily gave me directions without me even asking !!
Wait times are horrible... Staff, looks like they are busy but not taking care of patients... Patients are ignored. My wife was almost been sent home after surgery with blood pressure 180/120 till the doctor came in. Nurse Nicole is with attitude and in rush to discharge patients. I had to put blood pressure monitoring thing back on my wife's arm and no nurse came back till I asked them to check if I put that thing properly...
Where is this hospital located and what local community does it serve? The name should reflect that. Donors are much appreciated for their $ contibution but they should be recognized by another method that is not confusing.
Although I dislike speaking ill of any hospital, as they heal ppl. I feel compelled to do so now. I recently spent time, at this hospital. I was so mistreated, diet wise, medicine wise and treatment wise. I have post traumatic stress syndrome as a result. The call bell was even totally ignored at one stage. I suffered a 24 hours approx severe migrain attack and was refused pills for it. I was up awake for 3 days on top of that. The staff were what I would kindly refer to as sadisically brutal. I am still suffering as a result of my treatment there. They did NOT alleviate my fears and pain which were extream. I could say a lot more such as who hired such monsters? 1 may have been o.k. but every single other one were like a pack of wolves, I literally felt my life was in danger!!!!!. Go to another hospital as this one is really bad at least it was to me. I speak the truth. On the other hand in case I forget they did catch? I think something serious or treated it after. The facts vary.
My wife recently had a 10 minute consultation with their OHIP covered Breastfeeding Clinic (which she said was not very professional nor informative) and two weeks later we were sent a bill for $270. The bill was dismissed when we called to complain but it never should have been sent in the first place!
My wife had a very complicated C-section surgery on Thursday, April 8th, 2021 at approximately 09:10 am. I can not afford to rent a private room for $295 because I am a full student and lost my job due to covid-19. The night shift nurses were bullying her because she can not get up from a bed to do her work. My wife politely asked a nurse to bring some formula for the baby and a cup of water for her but the nurses refused her request and disappeared. She could not get up from the bed due to the complicated surgery. We are very disappointed with the nurse's behaviour and will never come back to this hospital ever again.
I have been for emergency care (broken ankle, stitches and AC joint sprain) and the service was fast and very professional. Outpatient care for my broken ankle was also very good. Most recently went for a covid test and it was fast, efficient and result came quickly.
I came in to the "emergency department" at 12:30 . I left at 9:30 . the whole time i saw the doctor only one time around 5:00 . I even left the hospital without knowing what was the problem because at 9:30 they decided it is better to get a new appointment. the work flow is the worst thing I have ever seen. everyone there is soooooo slow is over there all the stuff with doctors is very very slow they don’t no how to help patient if patients ask them for help they just get rude to them is very bad experience here
I've had a very good experience here, referred to internal medicine clinic for an issue that's been going on for years, no other hospital has taken it seriously. The Dr at emergency said it needs to be monitored! Thanks #MichaelGarronHospital
9 hours and counting waiting with a patient in crisis...brutal!!
This hospital is nothing but negligent and lazy. After pressing my dad into going to the ER for a sore on his foot, that was obviously infected, he was sent away after being seen. Keep using peroxide they said. We went to another hospital that night because I just knew something was not right. Turns out, he had gangrene. Almost lost his leg. Lost a few toes instead. He was in the hospital for nearly 2 weeks on IV antibiotics. That doctor at east general, missed gangrene and sent home home. Sickening
Hospital is under construction which did not have a bearing on our arrival. I would recommend finding alternate parking away from hospital. We were there for about 2.5 hours and it was $27. The appointment was delayed, supposed to be at 7:15am and we saw doctors for about 10 minutes at 830am; and they put a sign saying we don’t know how long you will be waiting. I think you should or discount the parking.
Great experience over here.
Experience in the Diagnostic Imaging department cannot be written in few words. Its awful.
If I could give this hospital a negative number I would. I've never watched so called health care professionals act so inhumane in my life. Someone I know was in medical distress and was an international student and they were treated like their well being meant nothing. If your ever in need of medical care I would definitly avoid this place at all costs. They said different hospitals have different policies. Apparently the policy of this hospital is human life means nothing if your not white or "Canadian"
My experience was amazing from admitting staff to cleaning staff, to pre-operating staff, and the nursing staff on 5th floor. My stay at the hospital for 3 days was comfortable throughout. Doctor Safieddine and his team helped me to be relaxed and confident before he surgery. In recovery all nurses were very attentive, carring and helpful. I was moved the next day to the 5th floor where the nurses where also amazing. Even though they are so busy they take time for each patient. The day of discharged everything was explained to me what to do when I got home. They did not let me go home until they were confident that I would be okay. Thank you to all departments for your patience, hard work and devotion to making my experience very positive. I know I am on the path to recovery with all the support from everyone.
Extremely long wait times every single time I make the mistake of choosing this hospital. Was standing in the “pink zone” for well over 15 min to see a nurse to drop off my paper work. Then waited (so far) 2 hours to see a doctor, last time I was here it took 8 hours! As a tax paying citizen with health insurance both government and private I strongly urge people to take the trip to a different hospital unless you don’t mind waiting long wait times.
Had minimal invasive surgery(Hernia) by doctor Jamie Cyriac here. I was scared initially but the whole process was like a cake walk. Thanks to all the staff members and doctors.
Worst emergency department in the city. Nurses are dismissive, rude, and will write down the exact opposite of what you tell them on your chart.
Communication is terrible, the phone messages create a loop and it will never change...aweful
This review is about the emergency department at the hospital. Avoid at all costs. Yes, I spent 11 hours - that's ELEVEN hours there during my last visit a few days ago, although I spent only 15 minutes of those 11 hours interacting with staff, and 30 mins receiving IV fluids. The 2 doctors I saw working that night were excellent, but the nurses were 70-30 - some good but mostly awful. I contrast this experience to the excellent , timely and committed care I received at Mt Sinai emergency a few days ago (after the initial issue did not improve). I refused to go back to the East York hospital . There is a culture of impunity at East York emergency, a lack of willingness or initiative to provide personal care or tto take responsibility for patients. Both and I and another patient were forgotten by staff for at least half an hour in my case, and an hour in his case, with IV tubes stuck in us after the fluids had been dispensed - there was no follow up until I asked for the IV to be removed, and an MD happened to walk by the other patient. I overheard a friend of a patient complaining to nurses that meds had not been dispensed for severe pain altho the MD had ordered it half an hour earlier. The response was denial and procrastination. It is a broken down system apparently run by nurses, with no or little oversight. The majority of nursing staff just dont't care - your pain and suffering mean nothing to them, and you are simply an obstacle to their preference to be left alone. I counted approx 8 nurses relaxing in the nursing area at one point. Why were they not checking with patients for forgotten IV catheters or patients writing in pain or begging for water or doing something or anything for them. Serveral nurses in the ER are highly and inappropriately combative and disrespectful, with both myself and other patients. They do not have the sensitivity to be working with sick people or with people at all. This ER is in need of a complete overhaul. Whoever should be taking responsibility for the timely and professional management of the ER, is not.
I had surgery here. And everything was perfect
Nobody should come to this hospital, the service is horrible, it's not even clean. A 12 yr old child waited 3 hours to be checked and no one checked them.
2pm per-op clinc appointment. Waited for 1.5 hours still didn't see the nurse at 330. Everytime I asked the answer is "she is with another patient"
If I could rate lower I would. Theres been so many different cases with family and friends coming to this hospital and receiving terrible care. I wouldn't even know where to start. Too many neglectful doctors here.
I came in limping and can barley walk. This was an hour ago. I'm still waiting
Worst Service and staff is also rude. No Sense of treating patients.
We are close to this hospital, it has improved a lot and we appreciate. Dr are very good and through. My husband has to many clinics, emergency I am glad he got good treatment.
Emergency room arrived at midnight with severe burning in my upper legs. Right foot big toe nail black near falling off. Can't sleep for the pain. Update it's now 4:26 finally was told after I had to ask what is taking so long no one even told me that they prefer to wait for the morning doctor! What no doctor or duty tonight early this morning? Stick around till maybe doctor might be in àround 6 am. East general hasn't changed. Horrible experiences every time. My last visit under the mental health act was even worse. I am a gay female. They locked me up in a male ward. Locked all my clothes up in locker in my room. Three black males threatened me with rape. So right hand into fist slammed locker opened it up got dressed took chair proped at open door. Stood my ground . Fast forward to 6 am that day discharged. Immediately or law suit. NOTHING HAS CHANGED STILL ROTTEN EXPERIENCES. NO COMMUNICATION. GLAD I didn't come in with heart failure might be dead. On a scale 1 being extremely lousy I give it a minus 20 445 am drove to McDonald's grabbed coffee 0500 am nothing not even a nurse checking in see if I'm okay. This is a joke give to 0515 take off.maybe get a better care spend the high parking at another hopistal which that's a rip off. Emergency parking should be free. Oh I could call a cab right' ambulance or maybe just ignore the pain let my toe fall off. Let the pain in my legs get so bad I can't stand nor walk. Which is not that far away. 0608 nothing still waiting no doctor no nurses checking see if I'm doing OK. Asking how the pain is it getting worse or hasn't changed. They are just hanging around nurses station.
My grandmother is at this hospital right now and the staff on 3A are amazing. She is being kept comfortable and engaged. My boyfriend was admitted in January of 2015 and they took such amazing care of him. I have seen people yell, treat the staff like $hit and the staff will just take it. So thank you 3A and everyone in the emergency department on Thursday August 11, 2016.
I had surgery at Michael Garron hospital 6 days ago and spent 2 nights in the hospital. The doctors, nurses and staff were wonderful! Much kudos to the RNs and staff on A5. They were all attentive and very helpful. My only concern were with some housekeeping issues with the public bathrooms. Two had toilets that were full of waste and would't flush, and another was out of toilet paper. Other than that I was very happy with my experience.
I was very impressed with the services I experience in this hospital. Absolutely good to the moment I entered the hospital till I left. Excellent covid 19 protocol in place , fast service very professional. Great follow up more procedure to be done
In and out of the ER in under an hour. Professional, kind, and courteous staff.
The nurses and doctors here are so nice. It really put me at ease when I went to get a covid test.
I would put 0 stars if I could. I arrived here around 2pm to have my daughters ear checked out. I waited 3 hours to be told I have 11 more people in front of us. When my daughter asked how many people the nurse was very rude to her. Also there was someone taking their mask off and coughing all over the place. When I told staff they did not do anything about it. I felt unsafe.
Very abusive security guards. Do not take loved ones there if they are suffering from mental illness.
What an immense failure of the FREE healthcare system in canada. Most employees just mope around and dont do much besides talk about there weekends. Wait times are usually 6 hrs plus. Why would they work faster? They still getting paid, noone cares. Wait 6 hrs for the "doctor" to come tell u a google answer for 2 mins. I always wondered what these doctors do since they only show up for 2 mins at a time.
I currently have a friend who is being treated on the Mental Health Floor, I am a Retired R,N,and am outraged by the things I witnessed in both Lock Down Unit and the Unit she is currently on. My friend managed to escape and if you google this hospital and see an article written by two Toronto Star Reporters about escapes that have happened with dangerous patients, and one resulting in the shooting death of a patient by police from there, There are a handful of caring and empathetic Nurses there, however in all my years I have never seen patients who are suicidal being served meals with real forks and knives in my life, While I have not met her Staff Doctor I am told by my friend that he is to put it mildly a real jerk. I will be reporting all of this to both the Hospital Administration other Governing Agencies and also contacting the Reporters who wrote this article, My friend is most definitely not receiving the care she needs there and yes I am astutely aware of our crisis in Health Care and we are currently working on having her transferred to CAMH where I do believe she has a much better chance of receiving the proper care that she so desperately needs and does really want. It is only a mere matter of time before there is another tragedy related to this Mental Health Unit and I want to try to have this avoided at all costs.
Very professional, dedicated and caring stuff at Emergency department. Indeed, I appreciate very much how these people work with so much attention to details and care to patients. My story: - I came to emergency department on Christmas Eve, 24th of December at around 23:30 and was discharged at around 10 a.m. December 25th. - For the first 4 hours I got registered, moved to Green zone, passed tests, consulted with doctor and received medicine for pain relief as soon as I asked for. Nothing made me wait long, everything was in time. - At 4:00 am I was said that I was stable and needed a CT test to plan further treatment, and CT was opened only at 8:00 a.m. Doctor gave me options to go home and return or to stay in the department and wait till the morning. - Also, I was offered as much pain medicine as I needed. - I decided not to leave, stayed till 8:00; at 8:05 nurse from the next shift called me for a CT test. - We were done with CT test at around 8:40. - At 10:00 I was provided with prescription, next steps for my treatment and discharged. Attitude from the stuff: - every stuff member of ED I talked to, treated me in such a way that I was sure that I would be helped, no matter what could happen. No idea how this hospital could gather so many compassionate and professional people under one roof. Thank you.
The ER doctors and nurses are wonderful. The security staff are helpful. Very friendly and compassionate.
The whole experience were bad. We came in, waited hours to get the care we were expecting to get but, nothing happened. All we had was multiple questions asked and no actions. The doctor checked me and told me that I will need a CT scan and after hours of waiting, the horrible pain I've been feeling has went away itself and when we followed up, we were told the we have been called 20 mins ago and nobody told us anything. We were waiting in vain. I don't recommend coming here at all. You'll wait hours to get the care you deserve and they will mock you about it. I told the doctor I'm having the worst headache I've ever had and she used it against me when I wanted to speak out of anger since I literally just waited for my own brain to figure a way to stop the pain.
Emergency is clean and cheerful. Staff maintained a very professional and caring attitude. It's a great community hospital
Training was really good and more detailed oriented for beginners
I had to take my special needs client in for X-rays The waiting process is Very disorganized. Two nurses had very sour and unpleasant attitudes. There was No where to sit, so we stood away from other on the side in the hallway then a nurse Rudely told us that there are plenty seating... when clearly there wasn’t enough safe spaces in between to be seated and her attitude was uncalled for. The only good thing I could say is the X-ray Tec was very nice and pleasant to my client other then that ... this hospital really needs help on training the nurse on common courtesy and respect in talking to others.
Pre and post care on my Knee surgery was great. Highly recommend. Nurses, doctors and admin staff were very caring and helpful.
Worst hospital and staff!!! Staff really rude..they made us wait 5 hours in emergency before we were finally seen. Good doctors but management is not good.
Lots of love and respect for the nurses at J7 (the delivery section ) especially for Shera and Christina they were so helpful and they do their job with lots of love
I loved the staff in family birthing center. Very encouraging and respectful.
Staff just don’t care. stand around gossiping and not helping ppl.
Worst hospital ever long wait in emergency for doctors who take other patients that complain more than you do and tell you oh we thought you were doing ok because you were being such a good sport like what the hell if you have another option for a hospital let this be your last resort
The facility is pretty sad, but the staff is outstanding ! The care and consideration I was given was amazing. I was unbelievably impressed with the professionalism on display by everyone who worked there. Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking such good care of me.
The emergency room is the worst takes forever in all my many expierences in there once they see u i have to say the staff is great and the doctors as well its just very disorganized i just recently stayed there for 4 days. During my last day there they moved us from one wing to another wing in like a panic which i thought was real weird and the wing they stuck us in was very very old and dirty with out dated machines and stuff thats when i new had to go asap but nurses and staff i have to say were amazing with me personally. I wish could post a video of the room they moved me to wow was this old and dirty.
Incredible baby/patient-centric service. Delivered two babies here under two very different circumstances and had incredible care throughout day and evening both times. Thank you!
This is the most absolute worst hospital I have ever encountered in my life. There’s more security guards then doctors. More police officers then nurses. If you want a quick resolution to your medical condition, your better off taking a Tylenol than wasting time at Micheal Garron. If you would like your family member/loved one to be treated as though they’ve been incarcerated, this is the spot. Not even worth the 1 star.....
I'm disappointed about the whole rating system online. I am no techno savant so I don't even know who to blame. But I have noticed lately that I will read a bad rating comment of the hospital (also happening with the doctors rating site -- even more noticeable there -- because I distinctly remember reading a few rather bad but not offensive or off the wall ranting... there were well written but critical of the doctor, reviews by patients. Then when I check back a few weeks later those reviews had been deleted from the site. I don't even know if this review is going to get on the page or if it will be deleted after a few days. So if you read this... check again in a few weeks to see if it's still here. Okay about TEGH : in one word APATHY. Nobody seems to care. Some body could do a great job, some body else could do a lousy job .... there are all the same ... nobody is ever held accountable. Which is really unfair to the good ones.
Excellent experience, I stayed 2 nights with my newborn, professional and polite staff. I highly recommend this hospital . Health care workers you are a HEROS????
Rude nurses and long waiting time in emergency. I hate their service only doctors are good
Well organized
Not very empathetic staff. Need to advocate for yourself strongly or have someone advocate for you. Cultural competence somewhat missing from care. Will not get to see heart specialist even if you have suffered heart attack if you do not continue to complain of chest pain. Don't be shy to let nurses know of slightest symptoms if you want medical attention. Otherwise only general doctor like family doctor will see you if you request. Parking is horrendous - be prepared to pay through the nose. Once you pay at the machine, get out fast within 5 minutes otherwise will get charged another hour and trying to get refund from Unipark company is a nightmare. Also no long term parking service to get long term passes avail on weekends or after hours.
Worst hospital to go get help for mental health, I was there for 2 days and have not been seen once for any help and was discharged.
Su or suzanne (short/blonde hair lady) from the fracture department is highly rude. I had interactions with her more than once. You ask her questions and she gets irritated and responses to you in a rude manner. She even talks about you to her coworkers. You work in the health care industry you are to help others. Be kind, compassionate and professional, it doesn't hurt.
I had called to get the result of my son's covid test. I was having trouble with the online web portal as it was stating "patient is invalid". I spoke to a person by the name of Hung Tran who told that me that I was not entitled to the results of my son's covid test since I was not the father. He needed to speak to the mother and only she could be given my son's medical records. When I asked why, he said that I would not understand this since this was not my domain. "My domain?" I asked. He responded by saying, yes health records. I was flabbergasted. I told him that I was in healthcare and I do indeed understand medical records in relation to parental consent and privilege. He went on to say that I was not entitled to my son's records since "I did not give birth" to my son! How is this person given the privilege of speaking to patients and their parents about their health records???
I was born here and so was my brother 50 years ago. So were my 3 adult children! Love this hospital and happy to hear about the huge donation! Well deserved i say!!
Tues Feb 19 2019 Night. I've had thyroid surgery here, I've been admitted a few times, always had attentive nurses and specialists. I came in tonight for massive headache and tinnitus that I've had ever since the surgery. To the point where it's unbearable. I came in for help tonight, at 9pm, didn't get seen until 130, fine, np..after I told the Dr why I was there and inquired about alternative medicine for my thyroid, Dr. D***trasac laughed in my face, after practically yelling my personal health information for the whole emergency room to hear. He pretty much threw my blood work at me and yelled, you're discharged, over his shoulder walking away. He was verbally and mentally abusive, condescending and immature. (Laughing at me with another nurse who I made sure was present as I informed the charge nurse). It was disgusting behavior by this dr. Im filling an official complaint with the College of Physicians. I'm a graduate of the University of Toronto. I'm not someone that is disrespectful to staff. I will not stand for this attitude and it will definitely be taken up via the proper avenues. I went there because I'm sick and have been for quite some time, I left in tears. Very undecided if I'll return for health assistance to that hospital. I know the whole hospital isn't too blame but if that's what I have to face when I'm sick enough to go to emergency, then there's a problem. :'(
What is wrong with this place? Ridiculously long time spent in line to get into the scheduled initially ( not last minute) appointment in ENT department. Almost 15 people in line with no place to sit, no suitable waiting area. Awaiting time is 1,5-2 hours. Besides… the building is old and under long time construction. Washrooms are dirty with no napkins. No public parking available. What a bad experience!
NEVER EVER go to Michael Garron Hospital if your in mental de-stress. All I got was a " take it easy " a note being excused for work for a week and phone number to call 2 days from now.. and three hours waiting around. NO help!! Just feeling alot worse then what I did before.
Best hospital in Toronto. Mt. Sinai is run by students so do not expect much. Toronto Western staff are abusive and like to tie elderly to chairs. Etobicoke General is a complete joke and Sunnybrook Medical Sciences Centre does not respect patients choice in health care. Michael Garron is the best damn hospital in Toronto, its just a shame that more funding is not going through there because they treat human beings with care and compassion.
So sad I wait in line today for 3hr and get sent home cause I didn't have an appointment...... this is terrible and the guy talk to me like I was no nobody..... VERY SAD AND WORST EXPERIENCE HE SHOULD BE FIRED
Calling in a panic at 1130pm on a Monday night. The most sweet women to anwser the phone in locating. She was professional, compassionate and genuine. Thank you for being there.
Worst hospital in the world. My uncle is dying and needs surgery fast to drain water in his lungs that’s also in his liver. He’s got stage 4 lung cancer and aids plus a failing liver. He’s been there since 4am yesterday they keep saying their going to do surgery and drain the water but it’s been two days now no surgery at all. They didn’t even give my uncle a pillow as they said they don’t have any, they also said they were going to put him in a different room nothing. He just wants to go happy and comfortable and this hospital is doing the complete opposite. This is beyond sickening how they could treat patients like this there. Shut this hospital down now
If you have an emergency definitely don't come to this hospital emergency area. Going on 2 hours now waiting to talk to a doctor.
Great hospital
I gave birth to my little baby boy here. The doctors and nurses at the family birthing centre and triage are all amazing. They took really good care of me. They answered all my questions and concerns. I had to be induced at 35 weeks due to preeclampsia and ended up with emergency c section as baby's heartbeat dropped. I was given thorough information on what the delivery plan is by the ob in charge that day and was given all options of pain medication. I went with an epidural and the person administering the epidural was amazing and kept me calm. The nurse kept rubbing my hand and shoulders to make me feel relaxed. I came to triage multiple times in my 2nd and 3rd trinester. The nurses were very friendly and helpful at each and every visit. They were respectful and patient with me every time. The doctors provided amazing emotional support as they moved me to the operating room. My baby has to stay in the hospital as he cannnot maintain his blood sugar level yet. Overall it was a great experience. Before my delivery I came across some very bad reviews and was very nervous but I would like any future patient or mom to be to know that you will be well taken care of here. Do not hesitate to ask questions or share concerns with staff.
I went twice to the fracture clinic and the wait is unbelievably long. Waiting period is minimum two - three hours even if you have an appointment. I noticed at my second appointment, they were not as busy so I wonder why the long wait time. I took my mother after she was discharged from the hospital and the wait time was three hours. It’s just ridiculous. They ask you to call for appointments of referrals and when you do, they either don’t answer or hang up on you!
Joyce is the best nurse I ever had !!!
I HAVE BEEN AT THE T.E.G.H. FOR MANY DIFFERENT REASONS AND I NEVER BEEN TREATED UNPROFESSIONALLY EVER.
The nurses and people who answer the phones here are a joke
Disgusting hospital because of dr angela stone and dr Michael Warner I am left father less because they refused to treat my father. This hospital is disgusting and would not recommend going there if you would like to come out alive Dr angela stones names is perfect for her she is cold as stone emotionless and is disgusting. Dr Warner is a clown he goes on tv like he “cares” for the people in reality he is the reason I do not have a father
I am truly grateful for their service and there is no wonder people who got cured here chose to spread their love like ones involved in Super Sophia project. We took our 3 year old for a major dental procedure and had to do it under general anesthesia. We were scared and sleepless the whole night until we met the staff at pediatric section who received us into their children play area. My kid had fun time there and the fasting period flew by before anesthesia. Dreaded moment came, when we had to send him to the operation room. It turned out to be a sweet moment when he got well with the nurse and took off happily into the operation room. It was a heart warming moment. The Peri Anesthesia team were friendly and kept us updated while we were waiting for him. Some staff did look grumpy but they offered help and stayed supportive till the end.
They are responsible for my fear and distrust of hospitals, nurses, and doctors. And as the saying goes, the nurses here eat their young.
My family and I have always received excellent care at this hospital.
So Far very bad. I have been trying to get a u/s apt for over a week now. Have left multiple msgs. & still nothing! I even spoke to the operator and all she did was transfer me without listening to me. Is there be a better way? The staff in the ER was very pleasant and as were the staff when I was an in-patient. What is the disconnect?
I went to this hospital with my two fingers cut deeply and bleeding, I finally got the chance to see a doctor about one and half hours later. I should admit the doctor was a nice lady and treated me good. However she told me I need to get plastics for my fingers and someone will call me, if no one call in three days I should call back. It’s been two weeks now and I called the hospital a couple times and told them that my fingers are itchy and it needs attention, the call taker said some one will reach you. Again no one has ever call me since. I finally decided to do something elsewhere cause in this hospital they don’t care about anyone’s pain.
If it was possible to rate this hospital zero stars, I definitely would be doing so. By far the absolute worst hospital experience I've ever had. After experiencing severe abdominal pain for a week, my doctor wrote a note for me to go to emergency to have an ultrasound done yesterday. After waiting 6 hours and being poked and prodded with needles, I was informed by the doctor that I wouldn't be able to get an ultrasound done until the following morning. The doctor gave me a referral and a number to call in order to book an appointment for an ultrasound. I called the number the following morning and booked an appointment for 10:30am. Upon arrival, I was told that there was no record of my appointment on file and that the referral the doctor gave me was missing information. As a result, I had to wait over 4 hours just to get the ultrasound done and then wait for a doctor to give me the results. I would never recommend anyone to go to Toronto East General Hospital. This hospital needs to get it together. These are people's lives that you're dealing with. Act like you care and take your job more seriously.
Do not give birth at this hospital. I gave birth in November to my son and I was approached by a company for an RESP and I refused their offer. We are new parents and I find it sickening that this hospital allows theses people to prey on people. I was called by three companies after my stay at this hospital and I have absolutely no idea how they even got my name and number and I did not have these calls before this stay at the hospital. I was also called constantly by a photography company that I did not sign up for. These calls were sometimes every few days to once a week. I feel as if my information was breached by this hospital and I will never come back here to deliver a child again. The only saving grace during my stay was my midwives and to an extent the nurses. And the emergency C-section I ended up getting was done well as well. They do a great job with C-sections at least in my experience. Their billing staff is also incompetent and we were billed multiple times for a room that was covered by insurance cause they could not be bothered to make a phone call to my insurance company.
I was admitted here after breaking my hip. In my opinion, the care and concern shown by nurses, doctors and others on staff is superior to any other hospital. Initially, I would especially like to thank Mary Chris, Food Services, who came to my aid after I had fallen in a parking lot outside a supermarket on Eglinton Ave,. She called 911 and stayed with me until the ambulance arrived. Coincidentally, she works at Michael Garron Hospital.
This incident happened about 2 years ago, but I would like to mention that my Grandmother passed away here. The doctors and nurses were not upfront about the cause of death. My Grandmother was admitted due to feeling weakness and bruising from falling. She was in her late 80s. A few days go by, and then now she can't speak due to a heavy paralyzed tongue? She shortly passed away after. I wanted to check the hospital reviews, and my gut feelings may be true. I think this hospital was grossly negligent and contributed to the death ( at least) of my Grandmother. I think it would be just if I kept it honest on here and ask people to stay away from this place.
the worst hospital in Canada,
Nurses are terrible my father was there for 9 days and they treated him like garbage
Typical Canadian hospital. The fact that essentially every single hospital are so understaffed and under-qualified to cater to such a large amount of patients is baffling. Recently brought my friend and his wife here, and we were forced to wait for at least 2-3 hours each time. The waiting room is always packed, and we were forced to stand the whole time. We didn't dare to leave, nor did we dare to not pay attention as this hospital made it clear that they possess such a daunting inability to communicate, accommodate and work with the patients. Never coming back here again.
Waited for almost 6 hours....... Ended up going home.
Please please please do not go to this hospital. People walk in alive and leave the hospital dead. Someone needs to do something about this hospital management doctors and nurse. The worst place you can ever be. They diagnosed my grandmother wrongly and a weak later she passed away. We have seen people who came with one problem & left with the other. Try to avoid this place at any cost even for delivery for new babies!
After heart attack the Parmatic brought my 87 years old father to TEGH he was left unattended and my father fell from bed with numerous burises. we complaint "things happens" the hospital nurse replied.
All I have to say is wow I don’t understand how this hospital is still up and running and I can’t seem to understand some of the good reviews the nurses are absolutely terrible extremely rude they won’t attend to their patients properly horrible experience wouldn’t recommend this Hospital to anyone.
I had a pre-OP appointment the doctor came in right away and the nurse comes in and say that's she is going for a lunch we were waiting there for the nurse for over an hour. You should book appointments accordingly so patients aren't waiting for you to have your lunch. Take your breaks not at the patient's expense
hate this hospital. So many BAD experiences! Go the extra mile and head to the best Toronto General Hospital!
Such great care here for surgery patients ! Thankful for my doctor and the nurses who completed a successful surgery, took care of me and all my needs during post among all the delays, and helped me feel well. Thank you for it all!
Quite possibly the worst hospital I've been to. There was not an abundance of patients in the emergency room, however, my family I waited for well above 5 hours. In an emergency room where injuries cannot be taken lightly, this in unacceptable. My father sat in a wheelchair for these 5 hours while in extreme pain. Upon asking one of the nurses how long we would have to wait, we received a response of, "some people have been waiting since 9PM". This is not the correct way to respond as it signifies exactly how incompetent the service is. It seems as though the small amount of staff here are more interested in their makeup than they are of the patients. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Avoid this place if you'd like to be treated for your condition or injuries.
Bleed for 2 hours before receiving treatment
My referals took almost a year to go through here and the first one is intake and a follow up 4 months later. Dr only does one assessment per day at 930am over the phone, not flexible. Don't have access to my file since they are working from home. Staff morale is low. Also At east Toronto’s Michael Garron Hospital, all employees are now being offered the vaccine, including communications staff, employees who work from home, and executives. Hmm priorities ????
If I could give this hospital a zero I would. Communication system sucks and we get asked the same questions multiple times.
This hospital should really ne shutdown. My girlfriend was in triage for an hour and it turned out no one knew she was there. She had to wait another 4 hours before a nurse saw her.
My boyfriend and I have been waiting for over 7 hours and are still waiting to see the doctor! We see no doctors on the floor and the staff is being rude on top of it. How in such a modern first world country, does it take 7 hours plus to seek medical attention.
parking is hard to find and fills quickly Best to take transit like bus or taxi or any other method but driving yourself down there there's a lot of construction going on as they are expanding this particular Hospital. Parking prices are very unfair.
Worst hospital experience. Horrible service at the emergency centre, got the run around. The person at the service desk refused to read my doctors note. I needed urgent treatment, but the staff were all extremely rude, and disrespectful. They talked over me, kicked my partner out of the hospital and I was clearly in too much pain to advocate for my self. Worst part is there was no one on staff that day to share our grievances with. This is one of the worst hospitals in Toronto. I would give no stars if I could.
Was in the scheduled surgery department, the staff was very friendly and the hospital overall seemed very clean, better than other hospitals around the GTA.
Worst experience every time i go there. Everytime i go to emergency with my wife for her medical complications because of her diabetes, we have to wait for hours. We were there last night 9:30pm and came back at 5am. Worst hospital in the world.
I had an abdominal ct scan there recently. I was amazed at the quality of service, care and attention that I received.
I was here about 2 weeks ago for the very fist time. I was not in a good place mentally, so they key kept me overnight in the ER. First of all, the entrance and whole admitting area is amazing. Very clean and organized. In the actual ER, it's even more clean and organized. It doesn't feel over-crowded or that everyone is too busy. The staff are by far the nicest staff I have ever encountered. They are very understanding and patient care felt like the core goal. Even nurses I didn't directly speak to were very friendly and asked if I was okay, if I had everything, if I needed anything, etc. I actually left feeling better (and safer) from just one night compared to multiple nights at any other hospital; where I have left feeling the same/worse.
Waited for 4 hours in emergency section and still the got excuses, I don’t understand how do they sleep at night.
Great staff here. Especially the nursing & support staff that do the grunt work. Doctors get the glory, but the nurses & clerks keep you alive & well between the intermittent doctor visits.
I had 2 tests done over the months , it was fast and everyone was great . No complaints !
Old hospital, but currently under renovation. Luckily, because the medical staff is great! I recently had a major thoracic surgery and I am very impressed with the care I received - no exceptions - could use the hospital staff directory, but would like to be more personal. It all started with the pre-op assessment - Dr Desmond LAM, anesthesia, Dr FLORESCU, IM, KELLY, pharmacy - all very thorough and friendly. Then Dr Carmine SIMONE - my primary surgeon, brilliant and caring, but also Dr Gazala, Dr Zeldin, Dr Sisson. The anesthesiologist Dr Henderson Lee.The challenging but successful surgery was followed by excellent post operative care: Dr Alvin Chang, Dr Stone, Dr Rhiannon DaCosta, all at ICU: Jewel, Meteen, Belinda - regretfully because of my condition cannot remember all names. Then the post operative department - very outdated structure, but what matters very advanced staff - Dr Dhruvin Hirpara - excellent doctor, very attentive and excellent bed-side manners; all nurses, physiotherapists - all very dedicated and caring people. My sincere appreciation and profound respect to all!
I had a surgery three days ago in this hospital, I got excellent healthcare Big thank you to dr El Masri and all staff there Nurses ,Shanaya and Michelle ,and thank you to all the other staff members Because of the pandemic they did not let my husband to come or to stay with me, but after I saw there lovely care ,there was no need for him to stay with me :) Thank you
Terrible service. First time waited 4 hours no treatment nor medications. Today I'm here for the same purpose just came for a referral and still have to wait 4 hrs. Please don't come here go somewhere else.
The Staff in Green zone and in Emergency just want to have their shift over and go home, they connect you to instruments that are supposed to monitor your vital signs and if the instrument picks up something abnormal then it starts beeping - but it doen't matter how loud or for how long it beeps, no one will come to your help, and when you go to tell them they just simply say "Yes I Know" The resident physician tell us that Dr Pinto the cardiologist have been paged to come and see her and after 2 hours of wait they said she went home we need physicians who are more responsible not irresponsible . I will make it simple for everyone if you need to go t a hospital in Toronto, there are a few good choices, For cardiac care go to Saint Michael, for cancer to Princes Margaret, for Pediatrics there is no place better than Hospital for Sick Childrens and for all other issues Toronto General or Mount Sinai or Sunny Brook Hospital NOT this one. They sent my wife home after she had clear signs of a heart attack and then she came back becausr of another attack and it took thr next morning until she saw a cardiologist. If i didnt live so close I would have gone elsewhere.
Nurses are top class, they care. Doctor badmos who did my mothers surgery is a kind and professional doctor. I would recommend this hospital to anyone.
Every Ontario hospital is a 5 star facility, why, because no one is ever turned away.
Unbelievable. Emergency unit. No doctor.
Receptionist is very rude in labour and delivery Indian girl
Review for their COVID Assessment Centre Very disorganized. There are two lines (walk-in & appointments) however they do not have any signs telling you that. If you have an appointment make sure you walk to the front and ask where the line is if you have an appointment! The super long line that stretches out to the sidewalk is most likely the wrong line, do not waste your time there. They are under staff and the ones that are working were extremely rude. We politely told them that there were no signs to differentiate the the lines for walk-ins vs appointments and they angrily shouted back that there was nothing they could do. A piece of paper with a sharpie message and some tape would've worked fine. Workers don't care, management doesn't care.
The staff in the emergency department are very kind, everything went very well and fast with the x-ray, I didn't need to wait for long time. Comparing with Sick kid's emergency, this is best.
My twin brother and i were blessed enough to be born in this beautiful hospital in the beautiful City of Toronto 21 years ago. Toronto is a world class city and this hospital is no exception! AMAZING Experience at this Institution! 5 STARS
Worst hospital ever for emergency dealing, doctors never come to see u,doesn't matter u r bleeding heavily or any other serious issue, i came to hospital emergency with very very high blood pressure 170/110, i came at 12.30am and left hospital at 7am in the morning withoutany treatment, meanwhile nobody came to me to ask a single word. Once i came with my friend, he had lost his half finger accidentally and bleeding was heavy, they registered us,but nobody came to see.
We brought my dad here and the service, speed and answers that we got were exceptional. A team of doctors worked diligently over the course of a few weeks to determine the problem, offer solutions and provided treatment - all of which were crucial to my dads immediate health. Thank you Michael Garron Hospital! Thank you to the doctors, nurses, porters, pa’s, and everyone else in between. My only concern is that I’ve seen almost all the of the nurses being stretched too thin. The nurses need more help, especially at night. I hope they can hire and schedule more nurses to take some of the load off, and increase productivity.
Horrible, although there is the ONE per thousand nurses in the building that ACTUALLY act professionally AND with compassion. The rest are clearly miserable and are only there for a paycheck.. They do not care about their patients- it's truly heartbreaking to see. Please do yourself and your family a favour and DO NOT come here, especially if it is a life or death situation..
Terrible staff, I came here with really bad stomach poisoning and after waiting for 6 hours I was administered by an Asian nurse whose name tag identified her as "Kristy". She was extremely rude to me yelling at me to keep my arm straight as I was getting my shot and behaved as if she didn't even want to be there. Later I overheard her talking to other nurses "this kid probably did something stupid that's why he has such bad stomach poisoning" (I am 21 years old). Basically Kristy shouldn't be working at this hospital.
Shanice/or shanine the nurse was very inappropriate while I was there sick. She was looking for confrontation at all times because I was asking her questions about what was happening to me. She was using her position as a nurse in an abusing way. Claiming that we “are sisters” because we both are colored women... I could barely hear her explanations as I had a real bad headache and for her she assumed that I had an attitude because my eyes were almost closed and my forehead was super tight. Every time I was touching my blue blouse she was annoyed and assume that I was in the hurry. I just came to the ER to be taking care of not to be verbally abused. She was trying so hard to push me to the limit to justify her behavior. I felt harassed. It was a very disappointing and bad experience. I would like to be in contact with a director to file a complain ASAP.
Attended the ER at 8pm which seems to be the busiest time. At 1am/7am I noticed there was no line. Amazing doctors and nurses at this hospital. I waited over night to see an ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist for an interior throat procedure. They gave me a room with a bed, curtain, and sliding door for privacy/sound. Very patient and understanding with my anxiety.
My hospital and my neighbourhood health care.
Give this hospital a wide berth. If you don’t have to go here, then don’t. I’m sure many of the staff are nice, but it has been my experience that some staff would rather “play games” than treat patients with any degree of respect. There are medical facilities in Toronto where nurses and doctors remember that they are here to treat patients. Find one because this is NOT one of them. Avoid completely if at all possible.
Very quick COVID testing. Less than 5 minutes.
They made a appointment for my day surgery September 21, i was already on IV and prep. To my surprise they canceled the surgery after 8 hrs of waiting, no explanation, just told me to come back
I have been going to MGH for over 20 years and also live in the community. I have only received the best care from all levels of professionals starting at front desk, to nurses, Technicians and most importantly the Physicians. I commend them all. THANK YOU MGH for your care!
Emergency takes hours to treat patients with open wounds. Either moving incredibly slow, understaffed, or both. No regard for those waiting for hours.
Thanks for doing what you are doing!
My mother was admitted to this hospital when she had a stroke and again when she had a heart attack which resulted in her death. I seriously question some of this hospital's intervention methods, and wonder if the treatment that they gave her (and did not give her) was the major contributor to her untimely death. Eventually the hospital couldn't even treat her. And they had to transport her to a hospital downtown with more facilities - where during transport she succumbed to her illness and her heart stopped beating for the last time. If this hospital cardiology unit was adequate enough and they were able to give her emergency life saving treatment in a timely matter onsite, rather than send her downtown for treatment, I seriously think my Mom would still be here with us. Imagine losing your 54 year old mother at the age of 26, 25, and 13 - my siblings and I. I think more could have been done. The nurses and doc's were compassionate but that isn't the point. If the hospital was equipped to deal with her condition I would not be writing this today. Sending her here was essentially pointless. I am beyond disappointed in this place and sending a loved one here is a total regret for us.
Worst place ever dont go in emergency at all waited 5 hours with 12 month old baby still no help when asked one of the nurse for help she was very very rude they have no manner at all how to treat babies
My son and I arrived at 10:30 am for a loss of hearing issue. We were ushered to no less that 3 different waiting rooms. In the last room which looked like an examination room (therefore we had hope we'd finally be seen) we waited for 2 hours. On the second hour I asked a nurse if we'd be seen soon. I was told there were 7 people in front of us. One more hour later I asked again and was told the exact same thing by a different nurse - there are 7 people ahead of you. About 1/2 hour later I could hear yet another nurse tell another patient the wait is at least 3 hours. By this point it was 2:30pm and not one person had examined my son. We made the decision to leave. Do not go to this hospital. They do not have enough doctors to cover the number of patients.
I read a lot of the comments and thought they were exaggerating but Emergency department is indeed a mess. They are really understaffed and very slow. Kind of defeats the purpose of the word emergency. My grandma of 80 years old was in that room for 12 hours with a recent knee surgery. As a middle eastern i am disappointed because i thought canada was suppose to be one of the top in healthcare. It turns out i owe the middle east a huge apology. They really need to change this system!
The treatment I received in the Hand Therapy Department was very professional and very caring.
If you are ill, don't be anywhere else!
Horrible hospital! Highly negligent! My father was rushed to emerg last Wednesday after SEVERAL long hours they did tests and determined that he had pneumonia which they stated they would be giving him antibiotics. By Thursday they said that the bacteria spread to his blood stream and that they would continue to give him the antibiotics. During this time my father told me how many times he pleaded with the nurses to give him water as he was dehydrated and they ignored him. By Friday morning my father was wheezing excessively and the I.V. with the antibotics had been removed. I asked the nurses numerous times why did they stop his medication and why they don't have him on oxygen only to be given evasive answers. My fathers health continued to deteriorate and the staff did NOTHING. When they finally intervened it was too late...my father was put on life support and died by Saturday morning. I wonder if he would still be alive if this disgusting hospital actually gave him even a little care and medical attention...guess we will never know. Don't ever go here even if you are in the area call 911 and ask EMS to take you somewhere else.
After a 7 hour wait in Emerg. I'd never go there in the middle of the night!!!!
generally , in canada healthcare system is poor.. They need more education and experience from another countries.. 2 days ago I have been in this hospital emergency service cause I got second shot (covid vacine) and cant breathe , high temperature , was very sick.. Waiting 2 hours no doctor , I told I dont feeling good , I want see now doctor.. I felt my dead in that time.. And some one try me helping and after security guys attack to us.. Its horrible hospital.. Finally I was fainting on the ground.. After 10 min when open eyes feeling little better.. And then back to home..
Sometimes service and care is better than others. Security is heavy handed (don't know what's going on with that). Nurses are hit and miss for a happy and friendly staff member. Doctors usually good from my experience however you just seem like a number. Definitely some work on customer service and helpful attitude however it is a good hospital and it is expanding for the rename donation of 50m dollars to Michael Garron Hospital. I'm sure staff are excited but still working hard. They are our Health Care Heroes.
On Wednesday, July 29th, I was brought here against my will by ambulance. My condition was serious, but I was sane, lucid and capable of making my own decisions and understanding the consequences of them. In spite of this, and my repeated protestations, I was given multiple blood transfusions against my will & beliefs and without my consent.
Dr. Laura Gage is a very friendly and professional Mental Health Staff member at M.G.H. I look forward to future appointments. E.B.
Very scary always under construction nothing every finished oh my Lord
DO NOT GO TO THIS ER I would recommend this “hospital” to 1. Someone I hated and wanted to die in ER 2. A documentary team tracking how super bugs & viruses are spread or 3. A convict on the loose who needs to avoid being seen by anyone for hours or days on end. Seriously, if the ambulance tells you they’re taking you to East Gen (now Michael Garron) DEMAND they take you anywhere else. It is your right to do so. DO NOT let them take you here under any circumstances. I guarantee you will be ignored by ER staff no matter your level of pain, treated without respect, dignity or decency, and leave without any real healthcare delivered. DO NOT GO TO THIS ER!
I called the non emergency line just now. At 6:08pm on Saturday Dec. 7th, 2019. I just spoke to the rudest most disrespectful person I have ever interacted with. I have never been so angry after an experience in which I was calling in regards to an emergency. My cousin may have broken her arm. Rather than rush in, I asked for her advice on the best time to come in. She asked my why I would call and ask that. She refused to give me her name. She said the call was recorded and hung up on me. I want, I demand a call back and for her to be written up. I have never written a bad review, I give people the benefit of the doubt. But this women is not qualified to answer calls or deal with people.
I unfortunately had to go to emerge quite a few times over the years and this is definitely the best hospital. Great doctors and nurses! One always expects a waiting period in the emergency room but their triage is fantastic and if you can’t be seen fast, they do check up on you and answer questions at the nurses’ station.
Horrible wait times and rude staff. The three times I’ve been to the emergency department at this hospital were the worst ER experiences I’ve ever had. Possibly the worst emergency department in Toronto
In an emergency, please go somewhere else. I laid in the ER for 30 hours with abdominal pain before I demanded to see a surgeon and was found to have a ruptured appendix and a serious infection. I waited 12 hours for an ultrasound alone (because it was closed????). The ultrasound tech was careless and provided notes full of mistakes, and the CT tech forgot to do the scan with contrast so it showed nothing and I exposed myself to radiation at 26 years of age for nothing. Other than the final doctor who saw me and called the surgeons, the 4 others over the 30 hours had no sense of urgency with regards to my POTENTIALLY FATAL condition. No one gave me the time of day, and actually gave me attitude when I first came in and asked for pain medication after waiting to see a doctor for 2 hours in excruciating pain. When I was finally admitted, the surgeons and rest of the staff were great, which is why I'm saying avoid the ER.
