Having been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease at 15 (an extremely young age), I have been prescribed many prescriptions for various pain pills throughout my life, and although I know now that people do not have to just learn to cope with, and live day to day life in so much pain, back then I just accepted this as reality, and incorporated it into my life as part of daily living. After 15 years of taking prescribed Tylenol 3's, and having my repeated requests refused for a referral to a pain management doctor or a specialist who might help me actually do something to correct the damage to my back, or assist me with an alternative solution, as opposed to continue to turn what was left of my liver into Swiss cheese, I decided to self medicate, as I was better able to do this and cope with my increasing pain levels, rather than be at the mercy of a pill pusher with a pen and a pad of paper. When I heard there was a pain management clinic without a doctors referral, and it was on a walk in basis, I was elated! At this point, I had over exceeded almost every level of prescribed medication imaginable, and the cost of street drugs was now ruining my life even more than my initial reason for doing them in the first place was; I had fallen into a gross cycle I no longer wanted to be in, and welcomed the thought of actual non judgemental help. The front end staff are very polite, and I commend them for what they do cuz I'm sure their job isn't all smiles and thank you's, as most receptionist positions are, not to mention their job includes more than just what a regular receptionist position entails, this I do know. Carley? This woman has been where so many of us are trying to escape from, and she's very open and honest to share some excerpts of her life with you, and how she got to be where she is today, what she's been thru as well! Whatever it is u might be ashamed to share, (if anything) she's no stranger to any walk of life, so reassuring, and will put u at ease, making u feel so welcome u won't want to leave her office! Dr. Greenspoon is a delight, no pushover mind u, and I doubt u'll get much past him, if that's what ur trying to do, but he's there to do what your supposed to be there for, and this he does well. He'll work with u thru whatever treatment the two of u decide is right for ur individual situation, and he continues to see u to check in on ur dose, how ur doing/feeling, answer questions, raise or decrease ur dose, whatever u need. He cares about what we are doing to better ourselves, and is there to help us with this, and although I've asked him several times if he could be my family doctor, sadly he won't. He's there to help with pain management, and not as a family G.P. and just for that, I am totally grateful. I highly recommend this well structured clinic. They are all there to help those who want the help, and if ur not ready for it yet, then come back when you are. I have yet to see anyone who wants the help turned away, or anyone, for that matter! Just give them a call and go down and talk to them. If they aren't right for you, then at least u got to meet and talk to some great and wonderful people, and I'm sure you'll leave feeling reassured, knowing there are choices out there for you, even if they aren't the right one. Their goal is to get u to one that is, and im sure they will have some suggestions for a plan that will be more for what ur needs are, and help u get there... to where u need to be.
I am so happy that I was referred to Nanaimo pain clinic by my doctor as I suffer with chronic pain from a number of health issues... DR Greenspoon is very warm, very friendly, and very caring. And everybody else that works there is too.. they really go the extra mile to help you in so many different ways. They have helped me tremendously.. from where I was in my life when I first started going there to where I am now is such a huge difference physically and mentally. Its scary to say and I hate to say it but I honestly don't no where I would be if I didn't go there, so I owe everything to them for working so hard with me. I would highly recommend anyone I no to the clinic, they offer so much to their patients and they really do go above and beyond the call of duty! ????⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great
I deal with chronic pain from a birth defect which leaves me incompacitated and unable to walk some days. It must be difficult for those who have not experienced a handicap to empathize with those who do. It took me 10 years to find a Dr who cares and a staff that goes the extra mile for patients. Dr. Greenspoon has gone out of his way to make sure I am alright. Ì feel like I have a Dr who genuinely cares about my well being. Ì don't know where I would be today if I had not met Dr Greenspoon. Ì owe you and your staff more than I can put in words. Thank you Dr.Greenspoon and your girls up front. Ì consider myself lucky to be a patient of the Nanaimo pain clinic and Dr Greenspoon and his staff.
Great doctor goes the extra mile with his patients.
This doctor ruined my life by lying to me about the effects of methadone on my teeth and my body. The first time I told him I wanted off it he took me from a very high dose to nothing in 6 weeks. I was so ill I ended up in emergency and had 2 seizures. I had severe Post Acute Withdrawal which is a condition you get for up to 8 months AFTER you stop taking methadone by weaning down a little at a time. He almost killed me. He was arrogant, treated me like dirt and even though I was there to see him about pain management he treated me like the worst addict he had ever seen. He was completely disrespectful. Now I have to try and find funding to get my teeth fixed to the tune of $3500.00. I live on $1740.00 Thank you so much Dr. Greenspoon! Be ensured I will tell everyone I know what a terrible doctor and person you are.
My experience was very good, I only gave a 4 out of 5 due to the amount of forms that needed to be filled out. If those forms could have been offered in a electronic format prior to my coming in so I could fill them out at my convenience then I could have given more complete answers to the numerous questions. Other than that the staff was very friendly and my overall experience was very pleasant.
I rarely give five stars as that would indicate perfection, this clinic is as close as we'll get with our medical system as flawed and awful as our is. What a great doctor!!! As far as trigger points go, this is the place!! I've had them done elsewhere and they don't compare, I only wish he was in Vancouver! Or at least trained some of the doctors in Vancouver, I never knew what pain relief really felt like until I started going here.
I’m a 57 year old male who’s been in need of medical prescribed pain relief for the last 30 years, I know there are many like me who are in the same situation and are facing loosing their traditional medications for pain relief. I was referred to Dr Greenspoon who suggested we try methadone as it is an extremely good replacement for other opioid medications that are now unavailable. I had heard of methadone before from my previous doctor but what held me back was the stigma of taking this particular medication due to its other uses, not only was it just as good I might goes as far as saying it’s better for my type of nerve spine pain. Dr Greenspoon set a course of treatment that gradually replaced my existing pain meds with the methadone using exacting calculations, so I was never going from one to the other , it was a gradual and smooth replacement over time. And I was amazed at how well it segued and the pain coverage I received from it. There was no stigma as the staff and care I received was private and specialized to fit my needs, I also used The Central Drugs pharmacy who’s staff were friendly and treated me with nothing but dignity and professionalism. There is a very private area in which you receive your medications from the pharmacy staff and I felt perfectly at home with them. I cannot say enough about the entire switch over I made at a very crucial time for me and I wanted to tell others my age or with similar cases or concerns to not let the stigma of this medication stop you from trying it. Methadone is a first rate pain medication who’s caliber is without question. I hope this helps others faced with these same decisions. P.S
I have been a patient at this clinic going on two years now. I actually look forward to my appointments as the staff at the front desk are super welcoming and always help to Brighten my day just a little bit :) My Doctor (Dr Greenspoon) has been wonderful at helping me maintain a smooth lifestyle on my road to recovery and is always willing to Listen and offer helpful advice whenever needed.
Love Dr Greenspoon and his staff. Love his injections...make me feel pain free. Thank you! He always takes the time to talk to his patients...almost feels like family!
I have been to see a lot of pain specialists and I have to say I was very impressed by Dr. Greenspoon and the staff at Nanaimo Pain Clinic. The receptionist is by far the nicest medical receptionist I have come into contact with. So much so that I told Dr. Greenspoon when I went into my appointment. I listened to her interact with clients and quickly realized she was caring and personable with every single person. Dr. Greenspoon LISTENS, takes his time and is validating and supportive. Overall this clinic is fantastic. I was more than impressed. As for treatment I received two trigger point injections and will continue to see him for follow-up appointments.
Dr Greenspoon listens to you, works for you. He's compassionate and caring. In fact, this summer when I broke my foot he's the only doctor I saw in person. Thanks Dr. G
Sherri is absolutely is the most wonderful to work with! Highly recommend her
Loved the team here ... only issue was the lengthy wait past my appointment time but otherwise I felt heard and Dr. Greenspoon was great in explaining the plan on how to help get me back to being able to function better
Wonderful. If positive, will share results with friends. Fibromyalgia BE GONE! This is nearly 2 months later and I can honestly say that this treatment is the best ever. Apparently this procedure has been around for 100 years! It got lost along the way somehow but I am so thankful for it now. This Fibromyalgia has plagued me for over 25 years. My pain level has dropped from a 9/10 to a 6/7. I tell all my friends whenever I get s chance. Happy to hear fibromyalgia is NOT a form of arthritis. Cortisone would help that but wouldn't help at all with fibro. If you have fibromyalgia, go see Dr. Greenspoon! I got a referral from my family Dr.
I had a very good first appt, Dr Greenspoon was very kind, helpful and offered good suggestions and treatment options to try to treat and resolve the cause of my pain. I wish I had known about Dr Greenspoon sooner!!
This has been my first experience with a Pain Clinic and it has been a positive one. Reception is always friendly and Dr. Greenspoon himself is knowledgable, respectful and kind. I am impressed!
The staff and my Doctor have been very helpful. I have been able to achieve cessation after almost four years of withdrawal. Whether the methadone or other opioid was prescribed or not, the Pain Clinic is the place to go to get your life back! It’s worth the effort.
I was referred by family Doctor to see Dr Greenspoon for chronic pain management. I was somewhat sceptical at first as I had seen so many pain specialists before which had not helped. He was courteous , patient, and really understanding. He explained everything to me in a way that made sense. Pain is like an electrical loop which can become endless. He explained how he can do a simple injection that can break the loop with a freezing shot and when the pain restarts it is of lower intensity. With a series of these he can try to turn down the volume dial and relieve the pain. I have now had a series of 6 in my lower back that has reduced the pain by over 60%. I am very grateful. He has been really helpful ! I highly recommend him to everyone with chronic pain !
I started seeing dr. Greenspoon about 6 months ago and I am so happy with everything he has done for me. Im only 19 and living with a very bad spinal injury as well as chronic pain. I have been to many other pain doctors in the past two years and so far dr.greenspoon is the best. He actully listons to you and help find a treatment that will actully work that dosent involve more pain killers. Not only is dr.greenspoon amazing but the front dest staff is fantastic as well. She is one of the nicest people ive met. She really conects with patients on a personal level and it is very welcoming in the morning. I highly reccomend this clinic to any one living with chronic pain.
I only had one visit and I can honestly say that I felt a lot less pain in my shoulder. I will be happy to get back home so I can go back for more treatments.
I am so grateful to have found Dr. Greenspoon, I suffer from chronic pain. Dr. Greenspoon knew immediately what was going on with me and started treatment right away.
Absolutly most horrendous treatment of someone that is admitting they are sick and need help. I phoned this clinic asking what i need to do/bring/ and when i needed to go to the clinic. they said we close at 4, come at 3 tommorow and well get you on methadone right away. so i drive all the way down there and they tell me the doctors gone home and i should comeback tommorow anytime before 2 oclock and ill be fine. so i come back again the next day (fitting this into a shedule, but am desperate) i showup this time at 12:50 and am told "the doctor is busy with patients today can you come back tommorow, i know we told you 2 oclock i dont know why she said that, really sorry" so unless i wante to continue to be a slave over the weekend and monday , i had to go on friday because theyre not open until tuesday. so i showup at 11ish and get in, i see the counsellor fill out all the stuff, open up and answer personal questions, then i go take a urine sampe and see a doctor. well for some reason my prescription medication, and my street opiates did not showup in 2 urine sampes in 6 cups, and then she told me it showed methadone, which is impossible unless the sample had been contaminated. i havnt taken a drop of methadone in years. i was ultimatly called a liar, accused of using fake urine or someone elses for whatever reason i would do that for. i even showed them my street drugs and injection marks. but they said i was simply trying to manipulate them for methadon to get high. im a opiate addict in chronic pain, i came back 3 days straight and came in admitting im hopeless and need help and am sick and answer these questions about my life and they spit in my face. thats 4 days and 70 dollars worth of gas i wasted when hunting season is almost over. Appauled. I would not recomend this clinic, my doctor has further refered me to VI pain clinic. oh, i also had family doctor referal for methadone. i would give 0 stars but in order to post, i had to give one. dont waste your time.
