Recently expanded and renovated. Separate dog and cat areas. As with all vets now, entry is restricted. Pets are taken inside and treated without you. I don't like that but I suppose it is necessary. Everyone I have interacted with has been kind and caring with my pets.

we just moved to Nanaimo from the mainland and my dog had a cist that looked infected. I requested an appointment online and was able to book in with Applecross within 4 days. The next day they called - they had a cancellation and did I want to come in...sweet! I came right in and they were great. the staff were very friendly and took the time to say hi and give my nervous guy some space and treats to feel better. The vet was awesome. she was very caring with him and patient. she gave him some antibiotics and saline and off we went. 2 days later they called to follow up on how he was doing which was super sweet. Then a week later I received a card in the mail (well my dog did) thanking us for joining the clinical. I also heard that they were putting in a marine pool for physiotherapy for the dogs - I was grateful to hear this having a large breed getting into his senior years - might be something we take advantage of!

I would highly recommend this clinic. They took us in to euthanize our dog when they were not even our regular vet. They had a private room with couches and a big ottoman in which our dog could be comfortable and close to us. She went peacefully and with no discomfort. She even wags her tail for the vet, never seen that before. The whole team was awesome.

Applecross was super amazing with me and my doggo Bugsie. ❤️ They were very understanding and super helpful with all questions and concerns I had. Bugsie is a 5lb. Chihuahua and he gets super super cold, so I brought him in with a heated blanket and they kept him nice and warm for me, no questions asked. Usually Bugsie comes back a little sad, cold and disoriented from vet appointments, but this time he looked happy, warm, and content. It just felt so much better after appointments with Applecross. I highly recommend this place.

Super friendly service, everyone is extremely warm and accommodating to our extremely anxious (and vocal) dog, Chase. Everyone we have talked to at Applecross has been extremely helpful - even sitting on the floor to do the exams to try to help Chase relax (he didn't). We've had poor experiences with other vets - one vet on the mainland even said that he wouldn't do anything with our little guy unless he was sedated - but Applecross has been excellent. Thanks, everyone. It really helps knowing that you're going to do what you can to put Chase at ease. We know he's more than a handful, but he's family. ❤️

We have both our dogs on the wellness plan here as they are very accident prone. Applecross has a team of staff who are all wonderful, they truly care about our boys and are quick to respond and squeeze us in whenever there is an urgent need! The wellness plan is super affordable and covers most of our yearly needs, highly recommend going for this rather than pet insurance!

Took vet over a month to respond to $700 worth of bloodwork because "the tech went on vacation". What did I pay for? I had to call 3 times and go in once. Maybe consider that my pet is the equivalent of my child. He was sick without any response from this establishment. If he had stayed sick, and something was abnormal, he would have died before a follow up was made.

We had to put our dog down as he was quite old and unable to see or hear, and was very confused. Had this place recommended by a few people. I stopped in to ask them some questions as I wanted to find the right place. I ended up choosing them and I was very happy with the service they provided. No on wants to say goodbye to their family member but they went through the process without rushing us, in a private and quiet setting. It was just what we needed to say goodbye. Thank you!

I have been going to Applecross Veterinary Hospital for 20 years and I am very disappointed in the fact that I had to take my dog to another Vet on another Island to have my dog taken care of...the reason I did this is because Applecross wanted to charge me 5000.00 and I got the same procedure done for 712.00. I don't know how Applecross Veterinary Hospital can justify such a difference in pricing. I could see if it was just a couple of hundred dollars ...but over 4000.00 is shocking. I will never take any pet there again and I will never recommend them. After they gave me the quote of 5000.00 they charged me 95.00 for a visit that took 10 minutes . If I could give a minus star I would...this is why I gave a one star..I don't like to give bad reviews but I couldn't let this go.

The staff at Applecross are all very friendly and helpful. Dr. Lamb takes care to really explain issues concerning my cat and the Technicians are super helpful! I have such a struggle trimming my cats nails and they make it look like a piece of cake! It really shows in how they treat him that the whole team are looking out for the best interests of my pet. So happy to have these fantastic people in my kitty's life.

We really like this vet, everyone there is so friendly and my dog loves them as well. We took him in, in an emergency setting, as our dog broke his leg and not just a crack it was done for. They gave us 3 options for repair and told us what we could expect from each. They did what they could to wrap up his leg and get him comfortable until we were ready. We chose to get his leg amputated and they did an absolutely beautiful job. The only reason I give them a 4 out of 5 is because he was suppose to be neutered while he was in surgery. I guess it took longer then it was suppose to to amputate his leg and because of that he lost a lot of blood, so they couldn't neuter him. I now have to bring him in a month after surgery to get that done and pay full price instead of what I was quoted.

Highly recommended! I tried bringing Luna to my old vet and they wouldnt touch her paw. Said it was nothing, that she was fine.(ofcourse, they took x rays, sedated her, charged hundreds just to say nothing was wrong) I knew better. She had a continuously growing hole in her paw. She was in pain, wouldnt leave it alone cuz it was itchy and irritable. So. I emailed Applecross. They called me almost immediately saying they can get Luna in same day. I was blown away, and so relieved. Not only did they help by giving me antibiotics, cleaning solution for her foot, and gave me some tips to help ease irritation, but (unlike my previous vet who INSISTED) THEY DIDNT HAVE TO SEDATE HER TO CHECK HER OUT. This is the FIRST time here on the island that Ive brought my pup somewhere and they were able to manage her rowdiness, especially without me being in the room (covid, i waited outside in my car). Instead of sedating her, they put a muzzle on her. A quick and easy fix. The vet who called me while he had Luna had no problem listening to my concerns and what I was afraid it might be. Together we decided to take the conservative approach, as id already wasted so much time and money at the previous vet, and we got her on her antibiotics and such. Stateing that in a week to 10 days, if she was not better, to bring her back and they would take a closer look, whoch ofcourse they would have to sedate for (normal timeing for this one ????‍♀️) luckily she is improving at one 3 days in. :) Im SO thankful I came to this vet. It has only been about 3 days since they saw Luna and there has already been a huge improvement. Will 100% be returning. The staff was SO friendly, knowledgable, and made my worries and stress from the past month just wash away. Thank you to all the staff at Applecross! ❤❤❤

He has his companion dog status, but as the years pass things change. We were very concerned about his crying and snapping so took him in to see Dr, Koo. He will go for a while yet. When our cat turned 19 she started to quickly decline in her appetite and was not looking well. It was a very difficult decision we had to make at the end to put her down. When I called Applecross Vet to ask about the process and the cost, I was told $60 for a group cremation or $175 for a private one. $60 seemed reasonable; however, when I brought our cat to say goodbye, I was charged $175. I clarified it was for the group price and was told there were many "extra's". As I was in a sad and shocked state, I paid the bill and said goodbye. I feel that this clinic took advantage of me in a difficult time.

If you are looking for a vet, this is the place to go. I had a serious emergency with my dog and my regular vet wasn't open. Applecross took us in immediately and performed emergency surgery, saving her life. Dr. Koo was so kind and compassionate during a very stressful situation. Also, although the incision was huge, my dog barely has a scar. We'll be going to Applecross from now on.

We are suspicious of Dr. Lambs practice. Her approach is AGGRESSIVE!! And it cost our dog his life. I urge anyone with an older dog not to let Dr. Lamb do the dental surgery. There are specialists in Vancouver that can do this much faster than a vet and please ask your Vet for a referral to a dental specialist for dogs and cats. The specialist comes to the island once a month. We were never given this option by Dr. Lamb and I found out from another Vet that there are options. I'm very upset because last summer when Dr. Lamb had my dog in for dental surgery she didn't take his bad teeth out. During his 1st surgery she called me and told me me "ALL OF THEM NEEDED TO BE REMOVED" She said ALL WERE INFECTED. Then 4 hours later she called and said she can't finish the surgery and suggested re booking him for a 2nd one. I was devastated because I had hoped we could get it over with in 1 surgery. 1 month later during his 2nd surgery she called a couple hours later to tell me his blood pressure dropped and she had to stop the surgery. She had taken 3 good teeth out from the front and said he wasn't fit for future surgery. I transferred his x rays and records to another vet and they examined his x rays from Dr. Lambs office and I found out that Dr. Lamb did not tell me certain things that she should have. The new Vet asked me if I was aware that my dog had a broken off incisor tooth under his right nostril. She asked me if he was sneezing. She said it's dangerous to leave a tooth under the gum like this. The new Vet called Dr. Lamb and Dr. Lamb swore she removed it however she never proved it with a post surgery x ray. It is unethical that she didn't take another x ray. We wonder why he had reoccurring sinus infections in his right nostril where the broken incisor was located following this surgery. The new Vet I started seeing brought things to my attention as well as a specialist in Vancouver both said they only saw 1 , maybe 2 that needed removal and they weren't the ones Dr. Lamb took out. I'm devastated. Dr. Lamb killed our dog. It wasn't long before the infected teeth took over his body. She should be sued. To make matters worse she didn't even offer consolation and no explanation as to why she took good teeth vs rotten. She just charged us, said thank you and good bye. I found out that Dr. Lamb didn't provide the best antibiotic following his surgery either. She used an injection antibiotic that lasts 2 weeks and there is much better ones that can be administered by a small syringe once a day that are better for teeth. She failed our dog. She doesn't deserve to keep her practice. Julia Lamb, why didn't you tell us that our dog had a broken off incisor under his gum? This is the same nasal passage that repeatedly was infected following your surgery. Why didn't you console our family and explain your approach? Taking good teeth from the front that I had been cleaning regularly. You have left us all feeling that you have hidden information. You've left us and many Vets in Nanaimo with unanswered questions. It appears to us that you don't care and we are suspicious of your practice.

First vet i visited when i moved to Nanaimo and have been with them ever since. The front desk staff are top notch and always greet me and my dog Ritchie with open arms and smiles. So to are the vet assistants. Very knowledgeable and treat my pooch as if it were their own. Especially Sonja who has pretty much looked after Ritchie's basic needs from nail trimming to anal glands and pre-annual checkup review. The vets are great. Extremely knowledgeable in the field of animal care. They explain everything thoroughly and will not rush you thru. They will answer all questions and concerns and never try to pesuade you do something. It is always your choice. Whenever any one asks which vet I use I always refer them to Applecross without hesitation. I recommend Applecross Veterinary to any one looking for a great vet clinic with great staff.

Dr. Lamb is an amazing vet. My cat was declining and my other vet could not help with the issue; except to double his meds. Dr. Lamb took time to speak to cat specialists on her on time. She was able to find a new medication protocol for my cat. Since being on this new protocol; he is doing much, much better. His blood panels are good and he has since put some weight back on. Dr. Lamb checks in via email; which I find is a testament to how much she cares about her patients. Her prices are actually more reasonable then some of the vets we have seen in the area.
