OB is concerned about high blood pressure so she schedules us in for an induction on Thursday. A catheter that's supposed to help dilate the cervix was put in Thursday 13/08/2020 and fell out Friday 14/08/2020, and we were told we'd get a call in the next couple days to come in for start the rest of the induction. Call Saturday 15/08/2020 to find out we might be waiting till 25/08/2020. What was the point then? Do they not realize that people have limited time away from work? Gigantic waste of time, and unnecessary stress. Thanks a lot. Forgot to mention that we have family members who've come up to help and now we're all just sitting around waiting for a call that may never come.

The late night emerge experience here felt like a really (really) slow assembly line and I was just an I jevt being passed around. Despite the fact that there was almost no one here at all, I waited hours in pain, move from one waiting area to the next, and got no information as to why I was waiting except that I was waiting for a doctor. I have literally experienced better care in third world countries.

Behzad Adelpur

I went there yesterday for gout treatment because of my knee. I was there from 10 in the morning until 9 PM. In 21 years in this was one of the worst experiences I have had. Usually it was taken 2 to 3 hours in Brampton Civic. I would never go there again. Even though I just moved in Kitchener, I would drive to either Mississauga or Brampton for treatment. Even the doctor wasn’t that qualified and did t take out all of the ice crystals.

What a garbage hospital. I was waiting at the emergency room and saw this other patient burst into tears. You know what the psychiatrist did? Instead of comforting her in any sort of way, she left her crying in the room and then went over to her coworker and started complaining to her about the patient. SERIOUSLY??? I don't know the exact differences between a psychotherapist and a psychiatrist, but I'm pretty sure both have responsibilities for comforting the patient. In fact, this isn't even related to professions, the first thing ANYONE should do in this situation is to provide comfort. Simply just being there with them is already enough, and the psychiatrist didn't even pass that. The simple lack of sympathy and empathy in hospital staff is absurd. I'd give negative stars if I could.

Dated: June 11, 2018 Been waiting in ER for 6+ hours (since 7pm), staff here is just ridiculous and unfriendly.. including Triage and Nurses! Not sure what kind of Management look after this Hospital.!! SIMPLY AVOID

I encountered the most rude nurse at this hospital, didn't come for help when I said I needed help, told me to stop screaming when I eventually didn't need the help.

Idk if doug fords health cuts have hurt this place more so than others but it would make more sense in describing the wait times at this hospital and, doug this is the result of your decisions: MINIMUM 3 hours to see someone if youre not in dire straits... even if your visit concerns a baby... after 1am. One might say covid19 would have some effect on wait times but this is not true, 3 years ago i waited over 3 hours to get stitched up. This place hasnt been right for a while now. I do applaud the doctors and nurses I've dealt with personally, they are good at what they do and I have had no problems with them myself. But something needs to change here, it just feels like you may as well not go to the hospital unless you're dying. If this is a direct result of Fords decisions then again, makes sense at least but doesn't make it right...

I would like to thank all the nurse’s who helped me to deliver our beautiful baby boy. I was on constant monitoring while in labour had great care from all the nurses on duty, special thanks to- Aura, Laura, Cassandra. Dr Jessica smith amazingly took care of everything. Thank you very much for wonderful care.

Broke my ankle, and waited 8 hours to see a doctor. 5 hours after I had my xray still had no results. Doctor made no effort to help me with crutches or a cast. Crying in a waiting room, begging for a cast with many patients around me listening in. Finally got one, after was told that it's very expensive . Poor hospital will never go back.

I had a severe toothache in the middle of the night, had no other choice than visiting emergency room. When I arrived here there was barely any people in the waiting room(me, one family and one old lady), but it took me 4 hours to get a simple prescription for my pain. These people are called emergency service but they have nothing to do anything with emergency. When you ask staff why is it taking so long to get someone looked at you, they say there is only one staff inside. Well maybe they should get couple more extra staff to get people going. I think big majority of the people who come here is in some kind of severe pain and they don’t seem they really care about you at all. Most of these staff looked like they are miserable and to be frank hate their job. I feel like city of Kitchener should reconsider changing their name to something that would make more sense. Maybe a name as “Slow but 24/7” would be more fittable name for them. Long story short, try your best to never ever come here, if you do - expect to wait here for at least 4-5 hours unless your head hasn’t been chopped up in half.

Worst hospital experience EVER. If you can get to St Mary's Guelph General or even Fergus go there first. The extra drive is worth it compared to the time it takes here that is even if you are allowed in

Justin

This is absolutely crazy we have been waiting 7 hours in the waiting room haven't seen or been treated by no body and doctors are keeping to one side I'm fed up this is crazy crazy absolutely horrible hospital

My dad just had a stroke today. Asked where it was located, and the nurse told us in the most condescending tone that it's located in the brain. I'm in the final year of my Family Medicine residency. This among other reasons is why I give this place one star.

Editing my reveiw: Horrible emergency service. Waiting here for more than three hours with my 6 year old son who is suffering from severe pain. Couldn't see any doctors. Nurses are chit chatting. What a joke.

Ozzie

Worse hospital ever, l was lucky to get out a live. Staff was so immature l found it totally UNBELIEVABLE. If your ever in a coma have it written somewhere not to be taken to this hospital!!!!!

Abbey Eade

Currently going on our 8th hour in this godforsaken hospital. The nurses have been very rude and have not given us an estimated wait time. I have not been offered any pain relief for what may be a broken hand, and they're all sitting around chatting. Worst hospital ever.

Yushul Dalphuckoff

I was NOT there , it was Tom Kane waiting for Betty McCabe to spend the $ in her pocket to take him to a motel. He had to wait till the next day. Poor baby

Sajjad Mir

The Prophet Muhammad said "Whoever does not thank people does not thank God." so I want to thank all of the staff who help to make this hospital an excellent place to receive care and attention. Two of our children were born here and I came here to have my foot examined after an injury. Everyone I interacted with from the doctors, the nurses, and secretaries were pleasant, personable and very caring. Keep up the great work!

Semona Basin

Definitely the worst hospital I've ever been to! I've been suffering from severe abdominal pains for weeks and after waiting for HOURS for a diagnosis, the doc just simply said everything is fine! Even after the visit to the ER, I'm still crying in pain & there's nothing I can do to relieve the excruciating pain either! Please stay away from this hospital.....the service is horrible, the docs seemed clueless to me and I won't ever return again.

By far, the worst medical experience I’ve ever had. I was registered around 12:30 am and waited till around 1 until I got moved into another waiting room. Around 2am I finally was seen by a nurse who then advised me that I would been seen shortly by a number of people. Well 2 hours go by, still nothing. 3,4,5 hours later. Still Nothing. Finally around 6 hours I decide to ask the nurse at the counter when I would be seen. She totally disregarded me, brushed me off and sent me to speak with another nurse about this. I have been here since 12:30am, and it is currently 8:45am. I am still sitting here because I was promised medical attention that I really need, but still have not received. Not once during these 6 hours has a nurse checked in on me and made sure I was doing okay, offered me somewhere to sleep, or even a blanket. I am appalled by the lack of empathy that the staff at Grand River Hospital has for the patients waiting to be seen by mental health staff. UPDATE: I left finally around 9:15am. The only thing I left with was an appointment to a Rapid Response Team. I left with a piece of paper after sitting in a waiting room for almost 9 hours.

The Emergency room wait time is a lie. We waited so long that the pain medication my hubby had taken worn off way before we saw a doctor. When we arrived here around midnight the expectation was to see someone with 1h30. It is now 4:30 and we were told by triage there are 16 people ahead of us and only one doctor. If you see the other reviews, it is not an isolated case. In fact seems to be the norm.

Dalton Taylor

It's a Hospital typically open 24hrs however not all departments are. Emerge and Respiratory care are the main departments that remain open.

Cameron Stevens

How can I not think highly of them, they've saved my life when I had pneumonia, and were patient with me when I had a kidney stone that came and went. Good people, great staff, and a reasonable wait time. They're right on the ION light-rail line and they have a great Tim Horton's. They're walking distance from downtown Kitchener and Uptown Waterloo, being at the border between the two.

Cameron Cameron

one day a nurse held my hand while i was crying, while i was suffering from alcohol withdrawal and dying. i was too shy to tell the doctor what i knew was wrong with me and . . . someone whos name i dont even know. . . just offered her hand to mine and. . . thats when i was finally comfortable admitting i was a raging alcoholic and needed help. all she said was. . . that takes a lot of courage and she walked away. i giggled cuz i thought about that tv show n felt like i was lol "touched by an angel" im the one doing chalk art all over town. i wrote the word PETRICHOR in the parking lot because i dont know who to thank. . . . i just wanted to apologize and thank you. thank you so very much for saving my life! i'll find a way to to make sure its not wasted <3

ydolem J

Horrible staff in the emergency unit. Keep in mind they prioritize who gets treated first based solely on preference not in equality and fairness.

Ryan Peddle

Wife had her baby here, staff are awesome and very supportive. Every nurse we saw was fantastic, very professional and friendly at the same time. Got to stay in a big private room (the birthing room we used) because they had extra rooms. Bonus!

Literally the worst experience of my life.i am disappointed that I have to give one star because this hospital does not deserve even that. I have never experienced such poor treatment from people who are meant to be healthcare professionals. I was sent here by a physician due to lower right abdominal pain. He gave me a form to take and contacted the hospital staff. I arrived at emergency, waited about an hour to see the first triage nurse, which is not bad. She took my temperature and asked some questions, then sent me back to the waiting room. Another hour later, another nurse comes by to take a blood sample. After she's done, it's another 3.5 hours in the waiting room before being moved to a different waiting room. Another 2.5 hours here. Then I am transferred to a room with a bed. The room is filthy and the bedding has obviously not been changed since the last patient (covered in mud and mystery liquid). I flag a staff member and they change it. After an hour a nurse comes in and gives me a gown. I asked how long until a doctor sees me and she says at most an hour. I wait 3.5 hours and no doctor or even nurse comes by to check on me. I go to speak to the nurse at the desk and she checks her list and informs me that it will be hours until someone sees me because there are many people ahead still. At this point it is very late, I am exhausted, so I tell her I want to be discharged. She acts like I have personally offended her and gives me terrible attitude. She acts as if I had been receiving amazing service and care as opposed to being forgotten in a room. I would literally never come here again as the experience was awful. Terrible hospital, such a low standard of care.

Agnes Schugardt

I went to the ER around 7:30pm with a chronic cough fearing that I was developing bronchitis. I waited until 5 AM to see a dr. I was starting to feel so unwell that I had to beg for a bed around 3AM which they reluctantly gave me. The dr treated me like I was a hypochondriac and told me I had a cold and sent me home without even a chest x ray. 3 days later my cough has gotten so bad that when I went to see an on call dr I was diagnosed with bronchitis and put on antibiotics. This is the WORST hospital I have ever been to and cannot believe that my tax dollars pay for this. I honestly wish I can give this place -5 stars.

Have visited several times. This hospital is quite disorganized but the care is top notch. Some anecdotes from my experiences here include: being "lost" when it came time for the mobile bloodwork team to take samples; Being giving innacurate directions by hospital staff as to where services are located; referrals to outpatient services being given for times where the services are not being conducted. This hospital is a prime example of the sprawling system of "hallway care" that has cropped up in this province. The staff are attentive but inefficient, on my most recent trip I had to speak to 7 people before someone could determine if and when I was to have blood taken. The culture that seems to exist in this facility is one of expecting the patients to be as familiar with hospital procedures (which are neither apparent or sensical) as the staff that preform the work routinely.

Jessica Marie Pietryszyn-Newman

My aunt had a bowel perforation and was made to wait over eleven hours to be seen by a doctor-- even though she was brought in by ambulance. She was only in her fifties with two teen kids. She died at the hospital because she waited so long.

We’ve had both of our daughters at Grand River, delivered by the nurses and physicians at the labour and delivery area. The experiences were positive, supportive, and professional. We had awesome care and it was mother-focused. Additionally I like the food court :) I wouldn’t go to Emergency again since the volume of cases vs. the size of the department means people wait 4-8hrs normally.

Howard Lenos

We are privileged with an incredible healthcare infrastructure in Canada. Grand River Hospital is an example of what makes our healthcare system work... people that care.

Rima “Farfalle” Sbih

I had a surgery at grand river one of the nurses was very mean to me ,i could not get up from the bed i asked her for a lift she said you can do it on your own your vitals are ok ,there was a male nurse there he was awesome he help me when i ask but the female nurse she was evil because i was wearing head scarf moslim she was racist but could not say it but she acted nice toward other patient only me so im giving 2 stars just to the male nurse!

Brinn Heseltine

Waited 2 hours to walk out after no one saw my 2yo son for his chin laceration. Will be going to a walk in clinic tomorrow morning. They also had us in a triage room after somebody who had reported shortness of breath and breathing pain. I will avoid here at all costs.

Vix Damone

We are having a baby and the women at the front desk at triage were pretty forceful and kind of rude, but the nurses are GREAT, and they totally make up for the rude ones . They don't get paid enough!

Max Power

Waited 4 hour past our appointment time to get stiches out. We even called before hand and asked if there was a large wait, we were told there was not. And we were charged for 5.5 hours of parking. Horrible service. Would never reccomend this hospital.

We visited the ICU on the 2nd floor for the past month as my dad was very ill. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly faces and an amazing doctor who was so good to us the entire time we were there. The nurses (as well as janitors, blood lab ladies, specialists etc) were amazing to us...friendly, helpful, great at explaining everything to us and personable. When going through such a hard time smiles go a LONG way.. and for the most part the team there were GREAT to us. Please remember that when your kind to families it means so much to us and helps us through the hard times (I would say 90% of that teams bedside manor is perfect!). You input and energy reflects directly on us and I think your team has a great thing going!!! I would trust this team with any member of my family as well as myself, thanks again for EVERYTHING you did for my dad and continue to do for your patients everyday. This hospital is AMAZING. Be good to your patients...they will remember the bad moments unfortunately so it will take everyone to be kind always. :)

Incredible. This place will heal you if you are ill! Like are you kidding me??!! how cool is that? You just walk in, wait like 8-10 hours and a man/woman in pale green pajamas will come fix you up. It's unbelievable, I go every week just for the experience.

Shawn Yang

They let me wait for 8 and half hours without doing anything,im almost cry because of the pain also is the nurse are all very rude and only give me 1 reason is theres only 1 doctor so you have to wait lol bad hospital please close door

Pro: great nurses, great doctors, good solutions. Con: often long waiting times

Last week, I fell UP the stairs. The stabbing pain in my foot was too much, I could not put my weight on it....I told my husband he had to take me to the hospital. He checked the wait time....2.5 hours. So at 10pm off we went. I signed in and was quickly seen by the triage nurse. She was very understanding and pleasant. She sent me off to get my foot x-rayed. I was quite surprised that the wait time was so short. The x-ray tech was professional and very quick. Before I knew it I was back in the waiting room....once again for only a short time....then I was called into the ambulatory care area. Here I did have to wait for about 45 minutes to see the doctor, but I was comfortably ensconced in a bed. The doctor was pleasant and quickly determined I had broken a bone in my foot. The nurse set me up with a short boot and crutches. She was super nice and friendly. In no time at all I was out the door. The entire visit was about 2 hours. The staff (nurses and doctor) and the volunteers were amazing. Despite the broken foot and the 4-6 weeks recovery time I have in front of me, the experience at GRH made a painful event bearable. The time each of them took with me and the manner in which they did so, reassured me and I could not be more thankful. Thank you,

The emergency department of this hospital is terrible. Wait hours are extremely long and patients seem to be forgotten -- for my brother, who had an intense pain in his stomach, hives, and a swollen face, this was the case. His symptoms were getting much more intense, to the point where he left the main waiting room and had to lay *on the floor* in waiting area 3. Employees saw his pain and walked past him multiple times. This was similar to a woman the night before, as I was informed. My mother and him, along with another patient that was taken in around the same time, ended up leaving not too long ago after my brother vomitted while waiting to see somebody. Moreover, my brother was informed by an employee that a nurse would see him, yet nobody came. This is embarrassing and pathetic. What kind of a hospital is this? What a joke. What an incredibly disastrous emergency department. KW needs a new hospital so people don't have to suffer here anymore.

Unfortunately I now understand the rating of this hospital. I was taken to Grand River by ambulance Thursday night (July 15th) due to a suspected appendix rupture. The paramedics were absolutely amazing as well as the intake nurse that the paramedics spoke to..and that's where it went downhill. I was taken to a room and that's where I stayed for six hours. A blood sample was taken, still don't know my results, and a urine sample was given, no resultsof that either I guess I'm fine because I'm here writing my review. I was not asked if I wanted any pain medication and by 4 AM when no nurse or doctor came to see me for an initial assessment I called the nurse to ask when a doctor would be coming to assess me, and I was told abruptly that they had one doctor on call and the ER was full so I will be waiting a Long time. At 5:30 I called the nurse again for an update and was told the same thing. At that point I asked to be discharged as I had received no care, not even an ask for pain medication. If I didn't call, I had no information, communication whatsoever. When I asked the nurse to be discharged she said that I would have to pay a few hundred dollars for the voluntary ambulance; so I questioned why and she told me "I don't make the fees." My husband who was on the phone with me found her tone to be very rude because I was only asking why it's a few hundred dollars when an ambulance charge is normally under a hundred. I later found out that my daughter had called a few times for an update and was given the same abrupt response..and they had no update to provide as they didn't provide any care. I'm quite disappointed that although you are full you leave a patient for over 6 hrs. with no beside care at all. No ask for water, pain medication, results of tests done. Our health care system cannot be this bad!!!

Muhammad Ali

Grand River hospital one of the blessings in Waterloo region. Great environment, highly qualified staff, friendly management.

Lianne Huang

One of the worst hospitals! We came in for breathing issues the other day and the triage nurse was rude and brushed off her symptoms. She didn’t take us seriously and insisted that there was nothing wrong because she wasn’t having a literal ashma attack in front of her. Don’t come to this hospital!

Miranda Strickland (Miranda Eliza)

When I was 4 I punched glass on a curio door and my parents had to take me to the ER. I had to get 4 stiches, also the doctors and nurses are very nice????

Rahul Gabani

had really great experience with nurses and doctors. All the doctors and nurse were really helpful and co-operative during whole process and delivery. All were very knowledgeable and helpful as well. Moved here one month ago and everything has been done smoothly. Grateful ????

Tania Bee

My experiences were mostly positive. I've had two c-sections and a day surgery. Of all the staff from these 3 occasions, there was one nurse who really upset me. The rest however were quite wonderful. The good outweighs the bad. Their cancer center is top notch. My mom attended regularly for 8 years and I witnessed some incredible nurses, doctors, pharmacists and lab staff during that time of her life.

Jadah

I have a history with pneumonia and chronic bronchitis and felt absolutely awful tonight. I decided to go to the ER to see if it was the case. I saw the nurse not even for five minutes and she dismisses me because she thought it was "only the flu" and they apparently don't treat any flu like symptoms there. According to her I just had to "suck it up for 24-48 hours" and she also went on saying that the only way I would be treated for a flu is if I was a cancer patient. I am absolutely appalled by the lack of service this hospital offers. Seems to me like you need to be on your deathbed in order to be treated nowadays or you won't get the treatment you need period.

Omas Abdullah

Had my chemotherapy done here. Absolutely wonderful staff, the nurses in the cancer centre are amazing.

Awful. They made me wait for 11 hours while I shook, vomited and I had to share a bathroom with the other girl vomiting. They made us wait half a day while we shivered on the floor out of lack of space in the sardine stuff waiting room. They make me wait at least 6hours each time I am in horrible pain that an IV would help instantly. They ignore you, they skip over your name, the triage nurse was rude to my father who asked a question about a type of conflicting medication I had earlier- she basically gave my father the stinkiest of stink eyes, and told him he has no place asking questions, even when it was needed In that case... I was in there sick once and the smell of smokers coming in from the streets right back into the ER actually made me vomit. I watched them turn away a woman with a badly stuck ring. She rudely told her "we don't deal with that", and told her to go to a jeweller. I've seen st.marys deal with the exact same situation when it happened to my partner, and it was dealt with within the hour. You say you deal by looking at patients and determining what is "most severe", well, Honey, a girl laying in the floor for 12 hours vomiting stomach acid, crying from pain and uncomfortablity because there were no more chairs in the again sardine-stacked room... Is severe. I don't want to make any other patients sick, or disturbed... So taking me and sticking an IV in me (which helps instantly), could benefit the rest of the waiting room. 12 hours I sat and cried and felt awful and shared a bathroom with a stranger because we were so frequently ill on both ends and couldn't take up the only two bathrooms. Two strangers laying on floor, and in bathroom together because hospital is so bad? Hmm... Think I'll be WARNING people instead of informing hem about this hospital. You guys had 9 hospital visits to wow or help me... Let's just say the nurse said to me "well, we couldn't find your appendix on the ultrasound... But I don't want to give you another xray today"... The sheet said my appendix might have been as an issue.... But sure sweeping it under the rug and not even being able to FIND it was apparently an option our great health plan. You sure Wow'd me... Wow...

Kirby Deflated

The only reason they get a star is because the covid section on the 5th floor is amazing. Besides that they are horrid. A "quick" visit to emerge is 6hrs. And they loose you in the hospital it's just a hot mess.

My wife was having stroke systems . We spent 11 hrs from the time we arrived to being discharged however for free health care what do you expect? If we had to pay it would be quicker service. I found the doctor to be amazing, he dealt with her symptoms in a way that a doctor should , CAT scan and blood work especially for someone having difficulty speaking and imbalanced on their feet. The hospital I believe is better than most ratings it is getting and remember their is a shortage of doctors and even not enough hospitals in Canada . Overall I would say the wait was really alot longer than it should be but the care recieved was adequate. If you want faster service than move to the USA but be prepared to mortgage your house for a broken arm and to sell your body parts to pay the invoice.

Would be a 5 star review if it wasn't for their horrible Wi-Fi service. My daughter stayed in the pediatrics ward for a couple of days. The pediatrician was very professional and knowledgeable and the nurses were great. The building was really nice and all the staff walking around seemed more then happy to help give directions when I got lost. However, my stay in the hospital turned bad when I went to sign up for Wi-Fi. I was greeted with a horrible service called Data Valet. Upon purchasing my Wi-Fi I was not required to enter an email, so I never received a receipt or confirmation. Then I found out that the service is only available on one device, so I would need to transfer the service I signed up for on my phone to my wife's computer. But I needed my confirmation number, which I did not receive, in order to do this. After sitting on hold for 2 hours with Data Valet support, I gave up and bought two Wi-Fi services. Hopefully I can chase down a refund in the future.

Terrible. Band-Aid solutions. Just for the patient come back in the following week. ED doctorwant to see you in 1 min and discharge. Nurse staff was helpful.

Lauren Bishop

I've been to this hospital twice and have been beyond underwhelmed. Had to take a friend of mine there last night for a head injury and we waited 6 hours to see a doctor. I'm no doctor, but I do know how serious even minor head injuries can be and she received pretty much no attention from staff while we waited and so I had to play nurse and continuously ask for things from staff when I happened to get their attention. If you have time and whomever is well enough, drive to literally any other hospital than this one.

Rian

Emerg team is super kind and non-judgemental. I love you guys

Im The Devil

I came here when I was suicidal and really appreciate the help I received. I was scared and didn't know what to expect going in. They helped me by helping me talk about what was making me feel suicidal and then taught me healthy ways to work through my thoughts and feelings. We had groups where we did fun and therapeutic activities and they had bored games to play with the other people, as well as a piano. I met my 2 closest friends here and we're still there for each other 2 years later. I hope anyone who's feeling suicidal gives GRH a chance to help them because I benefited from this place in ways that will help me for years.

I was advised by the hospital to reach the ER and I was admitted to the hospital. Some of the nurses were so caring and polite while others were utterly rude. Everytime I asked for water at night I was brought ice chips despite knowing I had bad cough and fever. I asked my husband to send me a crate of water (room temperature) for which I had to wait for so long that I felt I was going to collapse any moment. Its only because of the behaviour of some rude and impolite nurses that I dont think It deserves more than 2 stars. Needs improvement asap.

I stayed here for 4 days to have my gall bladder removed and for some other issues and I had the best hospital stay ever!! Ever single nurse was beyond amazing, super caring and nice and did everything they could to help me (my nurses were Dianne and shahed and two more but I forgot their names) even the doctors were really informative and tried to schedule me in ASAP! One of the nurses named Monica even held my hand before the surgery and I’ll never forget how scared I was but how reassuring it felt that I had people around me who really cared! Great hospital with great staff and amazing service! Best hospital experience I’ve had in my life! :)

alexandra erusalimchik

My experience at childbirth department was great! The staff amazing, supportive and helpful. Thank you so much nurses and doctors ❤

Areeba Siddiqui

Worst hospital ever. Never had a single good experience . Terrible waiting time , emergency means patient needs urgent care but they make you sick waiting. Been here for my husband for last 6 hours and doctor hasn’t yet seen him! Why does no body take action against them?

Ash J

A few months ago I went into the ER due to mental health issues, and many of the nurses in the er were saying that they are going to get my psychiatrist to kick me out because I have been there many times, they also did NOT listen to me at all, and told me I was fine and I could go home, but I was having severe suicidal ideation. CAIP staff was nice but not the ER...

Noah Leon

Service was slow in the ER, let's not kid ourselves, but once we were seen by the doctor (after several hours) he was extremely good, and stitched up my daughter's dog-bitten face as well as could be done. I wish the system was faster, but we eventually got great service.

First check in 3am. Horrible unfriendly nurses checking in people at emergency. I want to say if you dont like your job dont work in this field. And also have some people skills. I'm sure they have classes at conestoga. Checked in my 12 month old with horrible Croup. They took his temp 2 times to 8am. Nothing at all beyond this. Ones I complained for someone to do something the Dr. Came and gave him steroids to help his caught. 5 minutes she decide what to do. I waited all these hours for a 5 min solution and help. She said they dont have money for more dr. So koodoos to our gov who waists money and has the people with babies wait for hours to get help because we cant buy more skills. Yay

Brian Strem

Do not go to GRH I went to get 3 moles taken taken off my back and a day later landed up with an infection. If you have to go to the hospital go to St. Mary's have to get dressings changed every day and have to take antibiotics for the next 7 days. The hospital does a poor job in disinfecting the table for the next patient .

We had a great experience at Grand River Hospital last week when our toddler was admitted for 4 days. The pediatric unit was very caring and gave my daughter great care. They brought toys, a barney blanket and colouring books to cheer her up. Nurses were always willing to go out of their way to accomodate. Everything was super clean and masks had to be worn when nurses, volunteers and cleaners came into the room. We really appreciate the dedication of this dept to the children in this unit, especially during a pandemic.

Emily Jackson

A little bad luck with the timing of my visit, since there's only one doctor for night shift emerge, but a lot of good luck with the wonderful nurses and doctors who have been so kind and nice to me during my stay. My blood work only took one poke, my iv was attached gently. For having to go to the hospital, this is a pretty good experience.

Tailai Cheung

I got my thumb cut. Been to the emergency department at 9pm. Had some waiting but the doctors were nice and professional to do the stitches. Also gave me a new shot (Tdap or something) to prevent possible infection.

Kittens H

I had a total hysterectomy done here at GRH. All the nurses were great in taking care of me except one. She was very impatient and she ended up making my husband mad because she was pulling the Band-Aid off my lower belly to look at the stitches and what procedure I had done. Then she was tossing me one way then another and she was also very rough with me. My husband lost his composure and got angry with the nurse for handling me so roughly especially right after my operation and I was crying out in pain three times before he lost his temper and snapped at the nurse to stop being so rough with me. Other than that, my experience with the rest of the nurses was full of support, care, and positivity! They provided me with a warm shower which felt amazing and they redressed my Band-Aid and took good care of me. The final problem I have is with nutritionist herself, she seriously needs to open her ears and LISTEN to what her patients tell her based on their nutritional needs and what they can and cannot eat. I understand she has 1000's of people to feed but on my end of things with my major surgery, I needed way more fiber intake than what the nutritionist was providing me and my doctor was unhappy that I was not receiving the proper amount of fiber and I was holding down the food the hospital provided me so my doctor told me to go to Tim Hortons and grab a coffee and some nutritional food there. The hospital staff sent me home with pain killers and stool softeners to help me with my bowel movements, other then that I received wonderful care from the staff.

Valerie Snow

Unprofessional nursing staff. I waited to see a doctor for 6 hours and ended up getting frustrated, also the fact that the nursing staff made my wife cry more than once, was enough to make me check myself out without even seeing a doctor. I wish I could give this hospital 0/5 stars because this is the worst treatment I have ever received in an ER

Michael

WORST Hospital I've ever been to. And that's saying something considering I've had medical emergencies in Cuba and Zimbabwe. Seems like most staff are just on ot for the paycheck. I think a 5 year old could manage that place better than whoever's there now. Any time you hear GRH address their problems to the media, the blame goes to the government of the day. Unless you are literally dying, avoid at all costs. St. Mary's Hospital is much better. Pretty much anywhere is really.

EA Locksmith

Staff was nice took care of my wife while pregnant 7 months. The nurses are great and the Doctor staff as well! Thank you for your support hopefully my wife gets better!

Jasmine Perrie

I had my son on January 15th, nothing but bad experience at this hospital, stuff is just horrible no manners at all! , the stuff makes you feel bad because your a first time mother!, my son was born with some health problems and I get told three days later that he had a collapsed lung and tiny holes in his lungs, I get told that the doctor would call me for an appointment for my sons reap distress but never did, there so disorganized, took almost two and half hours to get a sleep room , told me that I would only get breakfast and lunch but not dinner,

Emily O

The nurses really took good care of me. Busy place but they took the time to make sure I was comfortable.

Sheila Bauman

I was there for a minor day surgery procedure. From being greeted by the screeners to the nurses in day surgery, the staff in to OR, recovery room and back to day surgery they were all very caring and attentive. As a nurse myself I was so very happy with there smooth care team. Amazing job guys!!

Jason H

We had a great experience with the birth of our baby in the pregnancy unit, the NICU, and post c-section care. While we were going through some very physical and emotional challenges every nurse we met and encountered were friendly, informative, understanding, and respectful. They were incredible. When we spoke to any Doctors the were very clear, to the point, and very helpful. Thank you all so much.

Nicole Delville-Burke

I've always experienced extremely long waiting times at this hospital. However, the doctors have generally been helpful and the trauma nurses and psychiatrists were good as well. The EAU is good.

C O

As someone who, for a good chunk of my 31 years, avoided all hospitals like the plague, I thought GRH was pretty good. Of course no hospital is perfect, but overall I felt taken care of and no big complaints (other than little first world problems). I spent a lot of time in the maternity ward for the last few months of my pregnancy (appointments almost every day). Staff were great...a few even helping ease my needle phobia. Main thing to remember is, it IS a public hospital with hundreds of people passing through often. You're not the only one who needs assistance, often hospitals are also short staffed. Please be patient if possible, and trust the doctors/nurses, they know what they're doing. ❤

Kerry Ryder

terrible service 5 hours to see doctor do nothing then make us come back next day for another 5 hours to do test why could they not do test in the first 5 hours. getting worse not better. It took them 15 hours to find a kidney stone well done

Adam D

Almost died here in 2011 when they refused to treat my Crohn's flare in the ER. I waited 16 hours in agonizing pain before the triage nurse (who didn't believe me and said the pain was all in my head) got me into a stretcher in the hallway. Then they failed to put an IV in me, leading to blood all over the floor for some reason. Then the doctor said he wouldn't end up sending me for any tests or x-rays. They told me to go home. Luckily my cousin lived in the area, phoned ahead to the hospital in London, and after a 2-hour drive they rushed me into care and treated me. Would not go here again. It's been 9 years now, but those staff members should know better. "It's all in your head" from medical professionals. Seriously. Thank god I don't live anywhere near here anymore.

Marissa Trussler

Had lower right abdominal pain for 3 days. They tell me it will be a 7 HOUR WAIT. Absolutely disgusting. I can't believe we accept such below sub-par health care. We literally pay for this garbage.

Ari Baird

Went in for a mental health crisis, and they lost my mental health meds which are essential! Then spent an hour playing telephone tag trying to find them, and they were nowhere to be found! Absolute terrible bedside manner, the nurses and doctors treated me like a number. You're better off going to any other hospital.

ren's review

Staff was very friendly, facility was alright to navigate but sometimes confusing. Bathrooms were clean

Sanjuska P.

I most recently went there yesterday for a CT scan and everyone one was extremely helpful. From the doctor who took the time to give us directions, to the receptionist at imagining department and especially the CT technician who was very friendly! I have been here for emergency before for broken arm and yes I waited for a little while. But I also got my arm fixed so I was happy :)

Sharon Leis

My friend has been in Grand River Hospital for the past week. He has received very good care.

logan boettinger

I like how there are either 1 star reviews or 5 star reviews makes you wonder how many of the 5 star reviews are workers from the hospital also it's a hospital flooded with people what do you expect a 10 min wait now don't get me wrong they have some crappy staff but so does every establishment.

sanoy simon

The worst hospital i have ever been to, i came in to the ER because i was in a lot of pain and waited for a 2+ hrs and i had to leave because i asked for how much longer i have to wait and they didnt have an answer. I understand that there are only a number of doctors on hand but i went to the emergency ward for a reason and that is to get help, which is clearly something that were not able to provide to me, and they didnt even know when they could help me, so to me that defeats the whole purpose of an ER. I have been to different hospitals before in different countries as well, of all the other places that i have been to this hospital does not understand what emergencies mean, if they did they should have given me a time for which i would have been looked at, in a situation like that thats the least the staff could do, that way if i need to look for someplace else i can start thinking about that

Kanwalpreet Singh

So I went there and waited almost nine hours and still there was no Doctor came to see me And I left the hospital after that without treatment.

Joshua O'Morrow

How could it get worse in a so called socialized health care system? With literally 2 people in emergency they still take about 10 hours to help anyone. If you ever need any real help here you need a heart attack or to be losing blood by the litre. They don't care from top to bottom no one cares and everyone clearly hates being there. One big cheer for our amazing universal health care system that costs us immeasurable amounts of money for literal garbage care.

Liliette Morejon Averhoff

I couldnt ask for better staff to deliver my first born, they did an amazing job with me and my baby girl, they were warm and professional those three days of labor.

GuRi HaRa

This is the piece of paper found in infant’s formula milk bottle. I have noticed it when my 1day old infant finished this bottle. Totally carelessness of GRH nurse staff. I don’t think any parent will accept this. Very disappointed .

lindsayk

Was in there today with concern over ailments after vaccine. I don't think I have ever been in any hospital or care giving facility as efficient and caring. Emergency was busy and the efficiency of the staff from front desk, triage nurses, the gentlemen tirelessly cleaning door handles chairs etc.. after each person vacated or used. Next the intake staff shuffling us off to the waiting rooms to see the dr and the diagnostic techs for blood work and ekg tests and finally the dr. to review and recommend. I was there for a total of 4.5 hours on a very busy day for the staff and there is no possible way this could have been more efficient. Each and everyone on staff was courteous and caring. Great Work Emergency team at Grand River!!!!

Over the Scale

In 2016 when I was 14 I went to grand river hospital at 1 am because my stomach was hurting for days. When I got to the emergency room it was fairly empty and the nurses were just standing around. After 4 hours of waiting to be seen they took me in a room to take my blood, nothing about the way they took my blood was gentle. After they took my blood they told me it would be easier if I went home and came back in the morning so I did. I came back to the hospital like they said at around 8 am and reminded them that they told me I could come back. They made me wait in emergency again for another 8 hours until they had to take my blood again because they said they didn’t have it in file. At that point I was almost passing out of blood loss, they made me sit back in emergency for another hour. When I got in the doctor pushed really hard on my stomach and said does this hurt, I said yes so then he pushed the same spot a couple more times and then told me to do 10 jumping jacks as I was crying and crying because the pain was unbearable. After all that I got an ultrasound and it was appendicitis. They made me wait In a bedroom for 16 hours just to move me to another bed for another 10 hours. By that time my appendices burst and they just kept telling me to wait and wait nothing else. Eventually I got the surgery done and over with so I’m happy to be alive but I feel like grand river hospital does not care about the people that need help they just care about the money?

Sabrina Asgarally-Lee

Dr. Tong is the worst doctor I've had experienced with. Doctors, and Nurses, should respect each patient, as though him/her is their Mom/Dad/Brother/Sister.

Gisele Maiolo

I waited for six hours in the emergency room after twisted my ankle in 2012. The doctor said I had not broken any bones and he did nothing. I feel pain until today, actually I had an injury tendon.

Jackline Zhao

Dr Erin Kennedy is the best doctor I have ever had=]

alyssa Brainard

They mixed up my grandma with another patient and in turn she was exposed to an extreme amount of un needed radiation. They then proceeded to give her an unneeded feeding tube (she was eating just fine) without concent WHICH IS ILLEGAL. This is what socialism gets you. Please, for the love of god vote for privatized health care.

Jennifer Werezak

4 stars towards their CT scanning department and their intensive care family clinic. A Scottish doctor there is really top notch!

Andrew Brown

The worst hospital experience ever!! I'm going to make sure my mpp knows how terrible the nurses and doctors were towards the patients. Unprofessional nurses just gabbing with no compassion, ambition, motivation to work. Horrid and the Nurses union wonders why there eliminating jobs. Wait time was 2-3 hrs waited 4 and left. Dr in the emerg (dr on Nov10 th night shift) said " I'm so over this place can't wait to leave". Wow that' says it all. I sure do miss LHSC. What a joke of a hospital for such a large region.

Rohan George

Still experiencing pain in my lower left chest. Went to the ER here. Waited for 2 hours and after a cardiogram the doctor said there's nothing wrong with my heart. Asked them what the pain in my lower left chest could possibly be, and they said "It's normal, sometimes chest pain can happen" Guess I'll just die.

Mackenzie Mathers

Absolutely horrible place and disgusted by the staff. I was in their mental until over night. The people that saw me first were absolutely disgustingly rude towards me and my mom. Then when I was placed in a room overnight I wasn’t checked on or anything until 9am when I was awake at 6am and they could clearly see me being that I had cameras on me and in a glass room. And other people were helped. I was supposed to be there to receive help but they don’t know what they’re talking about Supposed to be health care professionals yet everyone I saw was absolutely horrible at their jobs. Every situation is different ever person is different and you should be able to cator to their specific needs if you are a health care professional. Overall the worst hospital I’ve ever been in and the people I saw should really lose their jobs.

Dharmendrasingh Rajput (DHARAMNEEL)

Best Hospital as per my personal experience. DHARAMNEEL

Abhit Sharma

Worst facility ever lack if staff waited for so long no doctor come to see me worst experience of life

Kimmie Cassidy

Absolutely disgusting went today to visit had to go through emerg .. people were everywhere on stretchers people sitting half naked . Honestly you could be dead before your seen Nobody moves for anyone ...

Tyler Kutasinski

Very slow . long wait times . not enough doctors to many Rn's or Rpn's chatting and playing on there phones. Almost better off driving to stratford or listowel.

Sagar Gangarh

Ages of wait time ..poor health system totally garbage.

Allison Reinheimer Moore

Had our baby here. All of the nurses and doctors were lovely - everyone was patient and kind despite being understaffed. I'd definitely have another kid here if I was having another kid. Update: I had another kid and it was just as nice the second time. The hot water in the post c-section unit sucks though.

Melissa Hingston

Maybe we were lucky but I was grateful for a very short wait time at emerg. Staff was super friendly and professional.

leili rafiee

I am writing regarding a very sad and bad experience that we had at Grand River Hospital at Kitchener! We were there on Tuesday July 20 at 4pm. The reason that we were there was because my baby girl had broken her arm. She is just 11 months old. We waited until 7:45pm to get into the fracture department! i DON'T want to talk about the long and frustrating hours that we had there until we got into the department. After waiting so long, finally a nurse came in and asked me if I had my daughter's X-ray disk!! which obviously I didn't have! Then they ordered another X-ray. Now the SAD part begins. My daughter and I went for the X-ray, I told the lady who was working there that my baby girl is scared of the situation. She said don't worry! So we went in and the minute I put her on the bed, one of the technicians grabbed her injured arm VERY HARD so that she started to cry very badly. I told her What are you doing, she said DO YOU WANT ME TO TAKE THE PICTURES OR NOT, with screaming! I said yes but not like this, and again she did the same thing. This process continued with adding two more technicians and grabbing my baby girl's legs and hand VERY TIGHT AND HARD so that she was crying like she was fainting!!! I don't think I will ever forget the experience that we went through. As a MOTHER I think I can't forget the moment that we had there. It WAS AWFUL.

Ashley Mccluskey

This is by far the best hospital I have ever been to between me (having major surgey) and my 34 week premature baby , we probably have dealt with over 30 nurses/doctors and the quality of care and attention here is not to be compared to any other hospital my family has ever been to. The nurses are amazing and truly care and during our stay always went out of their way to en sure we were comfortable . 10 stars to the staff at Grand River hospital we greatly appreciate all of the hard work.

Maribel Torres

The nurse was very rude, waiting time was so long.

Donna and Peter Fulcher

Unfortunately, the facility was dirty - the washrooms in emergency were blood stained and the washroom in MRI was without supplies and very dirty. Very sorry to hear about the layoffs as the facility could use more cleaning staff.

Silke Force

Away from the hustle and bustle of the Emergency Ward and the general hospital bustle, there is a little healing Garden. I found myself so refreshed by a half hour visit there

Correy Bednis

I attended a recent medical appointment at grand river hospital on Tuesday March 12, 2019 around 2pm in the afternoon in/at my/our/the: Local Grand River Hospitals registration desk where I was met with a warm smile at first in order to start the registration process and I must be totally honest!, the staff was excellent and so helpful and polite the staff was!...from top to bottom easily the all female led team along with a few male staffing members i saw along my travels assured me we/I was in good hands for my entire visit and that yes I was in fact at the right area of my much-needed and ever-more appreciated! daily appointments Lineup desk/rooms where I could easily register, then I was on my way to the second floor where I met with a number of polite, happy, busy and the most professional, motivated all female staff team directed me to the correct area and it was almost like they were all happy to see me!, kinda type of a helping hand the all female staff members at my appointment area/department where?...hospital staff members made me feel welcome and allowed me to read a nice little educational book while I was awaiting my docters appointment on the 2nd floor of hospitals internal medicine Departement and the female doctor was so nice too!...all I can say is what? An awesome! Experience I had at my appointment. Thanks!, to all hospital staff for giving me a great experience and making me feel welcome even though it was so busy....thanks!, again! To all the staff who were working that day...From: Correy M Bednis.

Jennifer Silva

I had a day surgery on November 16 and wanted to give some love to the volunteers, intake personal, nurses and doctors. You were all so amazing. Thank-you for taking such good care of me and everyone else in for surgery on that day.

Marie Abi

I've been struggling with stomach issues for a year now and I had my family doctor retire this march, so it's been really hard to get the help I need. Two nights ago I had my partner rush me to the ER because I was having trouble breathing an walking followed by severe abdominal pain and vomiting, as I was waiting in the waiting room for my name to be called, I begin getting sick again while waiting and heard the nurse call my name and as I replied with "yes" he then had the audacity for some reason to roll his eyes at me and say "let's go". After I got assigned to a room I waited there Holding my stomach sobbing in pain hoping I would get seen ASAP since I felt I could not breathe, after a bit I was taken in for x-rays and was told to do a breathing pattern for the pictures, after that I was brought back to my room to wait for my results and I had noticed while I was waiting all the nurses by the desk were not wearing their masks. After a lady came to the room to tell me I was very constipated for a few days and needed to take laxatives to empty out my bowels, I then said I am concerned it's not only that and that I feel I need a scope since I've been experiencing this for a year now, she told me I didn't need one and that I'll be okay. After that I tried taking what she told me to and it only made my stomach worse, my mom had to run out and get special stuff that actually worked within 10 minutes of using it since my bowels were completely blocked up. My whole experience here gave me a lot of anxiety as I felt I wasn't getting all the help I needed and be shrugged off and not listened to the entire time, I almost feel I have to bring my parent with me just to get the help I need. This is ridiculous and it needs to change. Please start caring more for your patients.

Brenda Kerr

My parents have been here many many times for various reasons and we are all always happy with the staff and treatment. They are kind, patient and knowledgeable in all of the departments.

Alejandra Posada

I had to go to emergency because I had to. I had to go twice unfortunately. The second time, I couldn't avoid it anymore and it was the worse experience. If you have an option, don't go there. The staff lacks empathy, humanity, compassion, care, you name it. Another awful factor, is that because of covid, you can't have someone else there to advocate for you, so you are at their mercy and you have to do what they tell you and let them treat you as they wish. I needed help moving around and the nurse kept pushing me and rushing me with no empathy or patience towards me whatsoever. I got denied water by the doctor because he was too good to get some for me and I felt not cared for at all by him or the nurses. In both occasions I was in excruciating pain and the made me sit in a chair and wait there for hours on end; second time my wait was 7+ hours. My experience was terrible. I don't want to go into the details but Grand River Hospital really needs to evaluate the way they treat patients because if you there, chances are, you'll feel humiliated, ashamed for needing or upset which is terrible considering you are already in a terrible situation. If you can, go to another hospital.

Adan Lopez

This place is a danger for your health, there's no respect to human beings or conditions. They really don't like their job. Starting with the 911 receptionist. Most of the hospital personnel are like this. Some nurses have this don't get frustrated and lack of human respect, treatment towards patient or the people who are representing you. You may know that, this starts with all management, their incentive and their disrespect towards people have no measure. That makes me think that those people should be trained or simply laid off right away. Learn how to deal with their sorry life of theirs. You have to wait hours to have a treatment per se. Dr's don't really want to assume responsabilities on their actions a leaves patient their in their pain for hours. I do suggest that your partner avoid taking you here. Please goto Hamilton General. As soon as possible. The lower the resposability of the rol they tend to be more gentle and respectful. But most of the people that have real responsabilities are a disgrace of human beings.

E M

Just got off the phone trying to reschedule an important phone call with my doctor and she was very rude with her tone of voice she used with me. Now Im in costumer service I understand dealing with the public but there was no need for her to sound the way she did. If I could phrase it better she obviously doesn't like working there. Mainly because she huffed and puffed over the phone when I simply tried to reschedule. Oh well. One star. I wish I could put negative stars. Please if she reads this reconsider your job if you don't like it move on please I'm pretty sure there are other people out there who would excel in this position Given the opportunity.

Courtney Boeve

Frequently send patients home because they are in need of beds, 60 year old man with broken femur and blood sugar level of 28, send him home... Not happy with maternity ward, they tell you very little about what is happening …

Arun Dahal

Worst hospital I have ever been in Ontario. I have been to most of the hospitals in Toronto and other places. But in this hospital it takes more than 6 hours to see a enter emergency room. I had seen nurse at 8:48 pm and now it is almost 2 am. I am still in waiting room and I post this review when I am waiting room. Ministry of health must focus and audit this hospital so that they know how staffs are providing service to patients.

Unknown A.A

The emrgancy lady was not kind Infact she was rude. May because of my race or the fact that I am an interpreter.?? I don't know but she was mean.

Heather Fahrenkopf

I have had to come to the emergency department a few times over the last while. I always find the staff to be kind, friendly and caring. Everyone always seems to be in a good mood and they genuinely care about their patients! Even while it’s super busy they tend to your questions and I find the doctors to be thorough with testing and explaining their opinion of what’s wrong. Thank you so much. I’ve been to the other big hospital in the city and I’ve always found them to be rude and inattentive. Keep up the great work!!

Nicholas Charron

Overall good experience. The only complaint I have is WiFi costs something like $10/day. Firstly, this day and age why is with WiFi not free? Pretty sure most hospitals I've been to it is. Secondly, $10/day!? Are we powering the whole hospital from WiFi income?!

A D

I brought my mother to the hospital only to be told that there was no appointment for today. Now, I don't know how they could have messed this appointment up because I was called 2 times to confirm it. This was an important appointment as it was a MRI scan for CANCER. As you can see, this causes a lot of anxiety in family members because we do not know the severity of it. We were told to go back home and wait for a call to reschedule the appointment. I would expect a call right away considering THEY messed up and because we are dealing with cancer.

Darryl Verduyn

Good hospital but they need way more help as its so slow and they should band cell phones from all nurses while they are working, as they may not need more workers then as they will work instead of play around texting

RIGGED REALITY

Some of the nurses in NICU need to find new jobs, as they all have contradicting opinions on what to do. They are also rude to the new mothers, who are already under enough stress as it is. Overall most of them were very good, knowledgeable, and kind. What I found funny is how adamant they are about cell phones being on silent, mean while they walk around yelling to eachother complaining about the other nurses. BUT we should all try and remember being a nurse is a high stress job, everyone deals with it differently.

Dani 99

I would never ever recommend this hospital to anyone. I spent 9 hours in the emergency room just to see a ******* doctor, not a single doctor was there and later on we were notified that the shift has changed and it might take a bit longer, every person has limits, couldn’t handle wasting more time just to see a ******* doctor that would end up telling me to see my family doctor or take some pills. Can’t believe when I stood up to exit, doctors and nurses were standing there talking. Just a SERIOUS reminder you don’t get paid to be standing there talking when patients are in pain. It’s called EMERGENCY for a reason.

Edil Garcia

The nurses are so slow, they forgot my sister was on the day surgery recovery and we waited an hour for nothing.

John Gosselin

Not the best as the nursing staff is often rude, inconsiderate, especially in triage. St Mary's staff is far more considerate and they show that they care.

Naymat Hak

The worst hospital ever they discharge my dad from hospital three weeks ago and they said he Weill receive psw and some phsyio at home. he had a stroke he cant walk or do anything on hiis own, he's on diyalisis. I called them few days later and ask about psw and physio shes now saying they don't have enough psws and also she has to come home and re evaluate his condition and then they will decide if he needs it or not I ask to spoke to manager she said the y can't help or do anything this is it and then I asked if there is a higher person then her that i can talk to in that department she said no one can help

Amos Boratto

The Nursing Staff is Universally Excellent! However, if you're being a prick they will shut you down quickly. They don't have the time to deal with that. Doctors are more hit and miss. Some are excellent and some are the super entitled, holier than thou, "You're a moron and know nothing" Pains in the derriere. Triage is good as long as you tell them EVERYTHING! Always spotless in Emerg. Excellent care from the ICU and Acute care Nurses and Doctors as well.

Bruce Pham

Came for an appendectomy, stayed for the chicken fingers. Definitely recommend to check it out if you're in the neighbourhood.

Giovanna

Cant believe u have to.pay to have a phone.. Not in Toronto... Could not talk to my sister.. I was told one call a day.. Like what?? Is she in a prison or a hospital? Really like!!! The phones here in Toronto hospitals are free...yes we r pay cable but not phones..

Alex R

I had a good experience there. Everything was taken care of by my doctor beforehand so I didn't go through triage etc. Had one surgery and had to be kept overnight. They seemed short staffed from what I could tell, my surgery was very early in the morning and after that I was too drugged to notice much. The nurses were kind to me and I have no complaints.

I wanted to give a positive review for all the amazing staff that I encountered during my visit. The wait was long at the ER (6 hours), but the doctors and nurses were very kind and did a great job helping me. I had to return the following day, and I was met with more nurses and doctors who did a great job. Vending machine in the ER needs some healthy snacks though.

Incredible nurses and doctors who put up with a bunch of "*&( every day. The long wait times are NOT the fault of the staff at all. They do what they can with what they have. I have been there a lot recently, and have seen the regular abuse suffered by paramedics, police, nurses and doctors, just because they are trying to help. Thank you everyone at Grand River Hospital for all that you do.

Anna Druzhynina

Was unlucky to have to go in this morning and honestly the best staff ever! Doctor Laura is amazing as well as Sarah at the ultrasound!!! Everybody is so sweet and caring. Yes, it was a long time waiting around for everything however I got all my tests and answers same day! It’s amazing! I think people should appreciate more hard work of entire crew as well as value that something like that is accessible (Most countries don’t even have services like that).

I was sick last week, I went to this hospital for the first time, i was admitted to the 6th floor the surgery block. I was scared and stressed they might not nice to me due to bad experience I had in Mississauga hospitals, honestly that was the best treatment and service I have ever had in the hospital the staff were very friendly, respectful and loving ❤ I want to say thank you to all the Nurses, imaging staff ???? and special thanks Nurse Samy, Daniella, Erin and Katrina. May God bless you ???? all. Best Regards Fad

My friend was brought in by ambulance due to a panic attack, instead of letting her see a familiar face that was able to calm her down they decided to have 4 heavy men hold her down and restrain her as she was screaming help, she was kept in a room and not allowed to see anyone, we are not from Kitchener so it took a bit for her parents to get there but even when they showed up they were denied access to see her...her own parents....when they were finally given access to her only 1 of them was allowed in after she saw her family she calmed down instantly, after 5 minutes nurses escorted her parents away and said they wouldn't be able to stay the night with her, instantly she went right back into a panic attack... The nurses were rude, and unwilling to listen to advice given by close friends and family that would've helped the situation and made it a lot easier

I have never dealt with more incompetent staff than GRH's in my entire life. There is a single form (with a handful of fields) they need to submit to the Ministry of Health to get a healthcard for a newborn and they've messed it up 3 times so far. It's so incredibly frustrating.

MrTofy1974

This is possibly the worst hospital ever with terrible care.....the doctors act high and mighty and have no clue what they are doing.....no communication skills here and they sure don't care about the patient whatsoever..... the nurses are brainless and have no clue....time to shut this place down before their death rate hits an all time high ???????????? Worst hospital in region ???????????? Go to St. Mary's hospital instead....respectful staff there.... this hospital is so cheap as well their TV don't work properly.... can't pay their bills perhaps

So you have to wait till you die of pain and literally no one will come to assist you. Are hospitals made for treatment or to wait and just pass out of pain till they get someone available. Very sad to see this is the process they follow.

Vanessa Kwan

My visit at the hospital was great, however the reason I'm giving a 2 star review is because of the health records department. I went through a 2 month process in trying to obtain my health records. I had to keep calling back, leaving multiple voicemails and I had to call back myself to find out if my records was mailed yet or not. The staff are irresponsible and lack interpersonal skills. When I finally found out it was mailed, it gets lost in the mail and I never get it after 2 weeks. I call inquiring if they could mail it again or if there was a tracking number, she tells me there's nothing she can do and basically left me hanging with my health records lost somewhere.

PAWAN PREET

Terrible experience of my life with emergency services. I had severe reactions like dizziness ,fever and severe headache after my second dose of pfizer vaccine . My friends took me to emergency because i fell unconsciously and over there i was left unattended for an hour while my headache was killing me .I decided to leave the hospital without seeing the doctor . Best decision ????????.

Doug Stinson

I share the same frustrations as many others who have posted comments. Over one hour to get triaged and a five hour + wait to see a doctor who rushed off without answering most of our questions. It should be obvious to anyone that the staffing level in the ER needs to be increased significantly. Why can't anyone figure this out? Treating emergency rooms full of people in severe pain promptly should be of the highest priority, but it certainly does not seem to be. It has been like this for many years now and it only seems to get worse as time goes by. Does anyone care? Hospital administrators? The health ministry? The government?

Yurii Grodzevich (Theawesome0012)

This is a very good hospital because all the doctors are so nice to you and you are taken well care of. If you are hungry, you can get something from the cafe, and there is a clinic. You are very well taken care of. I really like being there.

Lisa Stroeder

From the moment you open the door to this hospital, you feel taken care of. There are volunteers who see the lost look on your face and are immediately by your side to assist you, often taking you right where you need to go. That’s just the beginning: the administrative staff are super friendly and the nurses are amazing. It’s like they only hire the best of the best at this hospital and the exceptional care and service you receive proves it. Everyone is smiling and making you feel at ease and once you work with a nurse here, it becomes obvious that they are experts at what they do. I have never felt so taken care of and as valued as I did during my stay here after surgery a few days ago. These people are made for this line of work and I truly believe each and every one of them loves what they do. If you are lucky enough to use this facility, you will see first hand how great the staff are. I wish I could make as much of a difference in this world as they do!

Ewa Wolniczek

Paramedics Dave and Jacob were absolutely remarkable! Incredibly patient and kept me updated at every point. I’m very grateful to them!

Chris Tillery

Just had the birth of our second son there and the overall experience was excellent. Staff were both friendly and attentive. …

Helene T Doerfler

The patient tracker on the second floor in quite useless and frustrating to try to use. The info is so important for the waiting family but very difficult to read. The staff is so busy and not all have the patient update. The boards are too high to begin with (I'm 5ft) and on June 1st when my brother was operated the info was not kept up to date. One of the nurses said they had complained about this but could do no more. Please add this note to the list of request for a better patient tracker.

Hardik Vyas

Awesome service and very helpful staff! I never had any issue here! They really deserve the best.

Jared Kuepfer

Took my wife to ER around 10:30 this morning. She was having extremely hard time breathing and heavy chest pain. Walked in to see around 30-40 people waiting. 2 nurses in site but no one around to talk to. My wife was clearly not going to get any help today so we left and drove to our home town 45 minutes away!! This has got to be public neglect, come on Ontario we can do better then this. There is prolly over 200 reviews with the same issues.

Tessa&Joe McClave

I am a senior and had planned surgery 25th Aug 2021. From the very beginning at 6am registered for surgery and then looked after by Monica in prep area 2nd floor. I was treated with the utmost respect & professionalism. Dr Oliver and nurses were fantastic on Ward 6 where I stayed 2 nights. Each nurse was caring and looked after me, to which I am very grateful. The Chef should be given a raise, producing nice appetizing food and the staff delivering it. The place was clean, organised & friendly So thank you Grand River, this was the first and only time I have been to a hospital.

Prabhjot Khera

Worst service ever, sat there for 6 hours for a nurse to check in emergency, leave aside the doctors .. They don’t care.. worst medical care in any country hospital I have been in

Justin Kulp

In summary: -Patients leave because service is just THAT slow, some just escaped -Patients are not advanced with worsening conditions -People have been treated incorrectly -Place is very unsanitary; even the staff are sick Some things we've encountered while waiting in the past 5 hours at Grand River Hospital: -A patient who has been heaving for over 5 hours until they started throwing up everywhere. -A person leaving the emergency room with only t-shirt and jeans in -10C. -Patients just leaving because they have been waiting so long with no change in the waiting room. -Patients falling out of their wheelchair as staff slowly put on gloves to pick them up; zero expediency. -Loss and recovery of missing patient shoes. -A patient who had blood work done incorrectly (admitted by staff). -A patient who wanted to leave because their symptoms disappeared while in the waiting room. They were told not to because they were originally believed to have an appendix issue, and this was thought to be a sign of it bursting. However, they are still waiting to be seen, so I guess that's the end of them. -A patient who was told, by an on-duty registered medical professional, to be seen within 4 hours, who has been waiting for 5 hours. -Screaming kids in a tiny, unsanitary, sequence of cascading waiting areas; but really it's just one giant room. -An unsanitary self sign-in service. -No water fountains, and only two single-person bathrooms in emergency room. -Check-in nurses inspecting each other with suspicion that one of them is sick. Edit: We eventually got moved into a hospital bed after 6 hours. We stayed in the hospital bed unattended to for 4 more. We were taken care of and sent home after a total of 13 hours.

Has a great mental health unit. The nurses and staff were very respectful and courteous to everyone. Lots of activities and programs for patients like boardgames, exercise activities, arts & crafts, etc. As a volunteer, they provided great thoroughness in our training to ensure we were knowledgeable in handling various situations.

I would like to address a HUGE issue with our health care system. Please check all medication doses prior to the nurses administering... Here's why. I recently had my son at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener. December 7th my beautiful baby boy was born weighing in at 5lb 3oz. Discharge weight was 4lb 9oz. When in Utero, doctors were able to detect a dilated kidney. Once born, my son was to start an antibiotic in case of any bladder infection from the dilation. A medication called TRIMETHOPRIM was prescribed by the Children's Physician on call. The dose was 4.8MG PO Daily. The first nurse administered the correct dose of 4.8MG (or .48ML converted for easy use with a syringe.) The second nurse administered a dose of 4.8ML. This is 10 times the amount that should have been administered. A large syringe with 4ML and a small syringe with .8ML was administered. I advised the nurse that this amount was incorrect and the nurse the prior day had clearly instructed us how to administer the medication. My advice was ignored and I was assured everything was correct. The nurse quickly started collecting the stuff used for administering and discharged us within 30 minutes. As she collected her things my son began projectile vomiting the medication. Nothing was said from the nurse. A day passed and I thought everything was fine until I checked the bottle that was given to me in a brown paper bag by the nurse who overdosed my son. I saw that 4.8MG was clearly converted to .48ML and knew that my initial instinct was correct. I then took my son to the GRH emergency department where I was told to sit in an isolation room and left there for 3.5 hours. After a few trips up to the triage room to ask if we would be in soon, we were told that we probably wouldn't be seen by the doctor tonight and a discharge paper was handed to me. The wait time on the big screen TV was at 2 hours and 4 minutes. We were ignored and shut out when it could have been detrimental. Thankfully we saw our family physician the following day who advised me that everything seemed okay short term. We hope there are no long term effects and that all medication left his system that day. I am having further testing done on his liver and kidneys to make sure there are no hidden issues. I contacted the human relations department who followed up with the manager of Childbirth who then followed up with the nurse who administered. The nurse admitted to the issue and showed remorse. Proper steps were not taken during either dose to ensure accuracy. I hope this message reaches those of you who may need medication given to their little one after birth, nurses who administer this medication, and anyone else who needs to hear this. Please take the steps needed to ensure our children are taken care of properly. The anxiety my spouse and I had to ensure for days following was something I wish upon no one. These lives are precious. Please treat them as so. Check those medications as many times as you need to no matter how silly it may feel. It only takes one mistake to lose that precious life we work so hard to create. Thankfully it was not ours. Lets also see some changes in emergency services! There is no reason a 5 day old baby should be left in triage isolation for 3.5 hours after an overdose of that extent!!!

Jay Oliver

I have a head injury and I went there as it was less than 24 Hours after I got the injury as I was dizzy and vomiting. We waited over 3 hours and not even 1 nurse popped in to ask how I was. I walked out and wasn't even challenged where I was going. This is the world's worst hospital I have ever been to. If I have to go back again I won't be going here even if it's in an ambulance!

Genie 84

I just wanted to take a moment to write about my appointment this AM. I had to come for a CT. I was informed 1 CT machine was down and it may be a little of a wait. But it was not even a 15 minute wait. The 3 staff that I had were phenomenal. They did great. And for being down a Machine they were joking around and just in a wonderful mood. Even though the Hospital is by far no favorite place to be, the Atmosphere was wonderful. They sure made my appointment go that much more smoothly. Thank you to the CT Staff

Megan Perovic

Absolutely horrible experience. I delivered my child here yesterday and the treatment from the nurses are just awful. I had probably 5 different nurses all tell me different things from not being allowed to swaddle my baby, to no that I should be swaddling, baby should be sleep On his back and oh best one yet - the One nurse said that the reason why they aernt giving my son the amount of formula he needs is because they are a pro breast feeding hospital and we encourage moms To breast feed. My husband paid for a private room and we got the worst treatment. Not only were they being very opinated but the attitude was beyond AWFUL not to mention the reason why they take forever to tend to you and your child is because they hangout at the front desk and chit chat ???? Cambridge memorial has a way better maternity ward. I will never recommend this hospital to anyone.

Fidel Jimenez

I can't complain about the service provided in here. Good bedrooms, good nurses team, the food is good. Nothing bad to say about it!

Karyn Barrett

Just watching the news and heard how you changed your internet policy in the hospital that has grossly effected your chronic patients, especially Tom Lister. Our job as healthcare professionals is to advocate for our patients. You did not provide a solution but a cop out and as an organization should be ashamed of yourself. We need to take a look at how our healthcare system works. It's not a business or corporation and will never be successful if we keep functioning this way.

Faris F

This has to be one of the worst hospitals in Canada. Unprofessional doctors and inadequate treatment.

Roxie young

I honestly don't understand all of the negative reviews. My hubby has spent time at GRH undergoing a myriad of cancer treatments. EVERYONE has been top-notch, caring, professional, and empathetic and compassionate. Earlier this summer we arrived by ambulance to ER and after a few hours wait (it's always hours), the dr was very good and helpful. MRI the next morning showed a new cancer spot on his spine. More radiation treatments started immediately. He's still in hospital, and has spent time at Cambridge as well. If you want to be in a horrible hospital, try CMH! I was begging to come back to GRH. The food is even made fresh and with local ingredients. It's very flavourful, and you have choices off the menu. Hubby actually looks forward to his meals, unlike in other hospitals. The only thing I would wish for is for 1-2 hours of free wi-fi. Having to pay for it is inconvenient. That's the only positive thing CMH has going for it.

Most unprofessional doctors I have ever met. No care or consideration for their patients, I have never been to a more neglectful hospital. They accused me of faking all my symptoms and were completely unwilling to do further tests, so I refused to leave until they did. They didn’t even have the consideration to call me for my rescheduled appointment with internal medicine. Just drive the extra 7 minutes and go to St Marys.

The individuals at this hospital are not to blame for the horrendous organization and service. They are trying their best to work in a toxic and disastrous environment. Who is to blame are the leaders, the management, the people in charge of improving conditions for patients. I have had a much better experience in a third world country (ecuador) at a makeshift hospital than I have here. My wife and I are literally moving to another province to avoid having a child here. Please, please, if you have any other options, take them. You will suffer here, more than you know.

Kai-Anne Dark

I think this hospital is underrated I went into the emergency area and yes the wait is long however they are all nice and work hard to get you in and out in good time. would suggest going here for emergencies

Super friendly staff. Had our baby there, we were more than satisfied by the intensive care we got from.the entire staff and whole team was fantastic. Very good facility for local people. A healthy baby thats what we came home with big smiles. Keep up the good work guys.thanks for being there for my family. My heartiest thanks from all of my family.

Edit: I was referred to Nancy Jones whom I had a wonderful experience with and am grateful for her help and expertise. I was referred to the Children's outpatient clinic for my newborn son for physiotherapy. I had my first appointment with no problems and felt confident in Leah Harris' techniques. She and I scheduled our next appointment for three weeks later. I went and waited in the lobby like the time before. 30 minutes went by and a volunteer noticed me still sitting there and went to go find Leah. They paged, went to her office, and called her multiple times. Nothing. I left after an hour. Leah called two days later with a bare minimum apology (went home sick, forgot to let secretary know)in a voice-mail and offered a rebook appointment the following week. I called back 30 minutes later at the extension she provided me and left a message stating I would like a certain day. This was on a Friday. I didn't hear by late afternoon Monday so I called to confirm. I apparently was given the wrong extension by her and called again. She called back and told me that certain dates I wanted had already been booked... Whatever, my concern was getting my son in again so we agreed on Friday, September 4. I checked in to my appointment at 1132 for my 1130 appointment because I was instructed to go to a different area this time and had trouble finding it. 30 minutes roll by so I go back to the receptionist who is in disbelief that I havent been seen yet. She tries paging, calling and going to Leahs office. No one can find her. I ended up leaving again with no session. The sheer unprofessionalism was incredibly disappointing. It is a lot for me to travel with a newborn in cabs, and cost a lot of money. Especially in COVID times where I can only protect my newborn son as best as i can without PPE for him. I'm still waiting to hear back from someone else because I refuse to book with Leah again.

Rather let you die on the floor then save your life. Canadian Heath care is a lie, we pay to be sick and get no answers or help. They only make money by drugging you and keeping you sick.

I don't know where to start. The good experience or the bad one because unfortunately I had both within few days. 1) my cousin called the emergency last Thursday for a accident that I had .The ambulance got there very quick and they where very professional and helpful. I would rate them 5 Star .We got at hospital very quick, seen the doctor very quick had the X-Ray done quick seen the doctor again quick.aĺl said and done PERFECT the accident happened in New Hamburg at 3 and I was home at 8 .This world needs more people like you .THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP AND EFFORT 2) Yesterday totally a different story. I received a phone call from the doctor that was in charge the night of my accident and He was very professional about it. He said that we need to have a CT-Scan because X-Ray specialist said something isn't right or clear with the lungs .So please come back at hospital and have CT-SCAN done. Wow that was a shock. Am I scared of what doctor just told me or how quick and professional they're handling this. So I went to the hospital it was very busy around 7 p.m. First I registered at the computer they have at the door put all the info there .Waited there for 30 minutes and then a nurse called me. I explained everything to her ,I told her that I feel fine and I don't have any problems but the only reason I'm here is because the doctor called me and told me that they need me back in here for a CT-SCAN she said that I would gladly help you but I don't have any orders here but will try to explain to somebody (I guessed to somebody who is higher than her).so I had to wait another half hour to explain my story again to another nurse and then again the waiting game. I must've seen at least about 10 people that came after me leave the hospital but I keep telling myself that is an emergency what you expect but not everyone was. I'm not a doctor after all to dicide who is in worse conditions. To make the long story short I was there waiting until 2 a.m. and I seen no doctor. I had to leave without seen the doctor because we had to take our 4 kids to school in the morning. We had to sign for me to leave without seen the doctor so it's not the hospital fault ..Okay its nobody's fault..The sad thing is that I heard its manny me's out there. It's very sad that in this blessed country our fellow human's treat human's as numbers

Mr. RollsRoyce

Pure garbage and Imbecile nurses. Nurses didn’t care about my problems and doctors left quickly, so I didn’t have the chance to ask questions. This is what happens when libtards control healthcare

Alexandra Jaszkul

Useless waste of time. May as well stay at home and die :) P.s. In the nearly 6 hours I was there, never got to see a doctor, was still discharged & referred to a specialist in like 3 months.

Ryan Harrison

Wonderful and helpful Nurses and Doctor's. Very heartwarming experience. Took the very best care of my Uncle.

Satvik Varshney

The hospital has caused nothing but troubles. Their staff is insensitive and their services are extremely slow and poor. I'm from india and I have seen better hospitals in Indian villages.

Rosemary Kelly

If it wasn't for the compassion and patience of my angelic technician, I would never have gotten through my CT scan. I couldn't have done it without her. I was overwrought. She was so kind and helpful, as were all the staff I interacted with that day. Thank you for taking such good care of me in these stressful times. I am extremely grateful.

There a lot of racial discrimination in this trash hospital…… I even suspect that some white doctors are not well-educated:)Last week my bf broke his hand and the nurse say a doctor will contact him in 3 business day. No call received for whole week. After he call back today, they ask him to call hospital back to arrange another doctor. How responsible they are... “great hospital, so helpful, so responsible” lol

Rishabh Minocha

Worst hospital in Canada. Came at night due to extreme chest pain (barely got off my bed), waited for 2 hours to see the triage nurse, told her that I'll faint but she said just take deep breaths? Got an x-ray done after 8 hours of waiting and the doctor mentioned everything looks good. I go back home and wake up to an excruciatingly horror worthy chest pain. They called me in the afternoon mentioning I had a lung collapse. Honestly just don't come to this hospital

If I could give this hospital zero stars I would. I took my wife there because she was experiencing fainting and fever. It took an hour plus to get us in to see a doctor. They put us in a room to wait for a doctor, during the wait my wife started to shever, shake and feel pain in her bones. 8 hours later still no doctor.

Terrible hospital. Might as well go to a walk in clinic. Terrible staff and service. Walked in to emergency with a deep cut, white shirt visibly filled with blood. No one approached us. Never been to the hospital, a nurse just pointed to a direction without saying anything. She was not doing anything with a patient either. Had to type into a computer why I was visiting rather than stopping the bleeding, then informing me to type in the computer. Would have had to wait 5+ hours before they even at least cleaned the very deep cut as they only wrapped it. Ended up driving to Milton and getting treatment right away. Would recommend the 45 min drive highly if it's possible. Terrible hospital. Terrible, terrible, terrible! Not to mention the man on a bench bleeding from his head passed out on the seats not being looked after as well

Black Noble: Aurelian Benin

Currently waiting 7 hours in an empty waiting room. I have nerve pain from my spine. Its all I can do to keep from screaming. Seven hours in those chairs.... This is one of the most degrading miserable experiences of my life. I sincerely hate this hospital.

Mark Dolson

Awesome workers. Right from the time I entered till I left everyone was pleasant and helpful. Keep up the great work!

Dejana Malinovic

Unless you are in labor do yourself a favour and go to St Mary’s - TRUST ME

Awful awful awful service. Rude staff. Insanely long waiting hours. The only nice person I met in the hospital is the young volunteer guy near the front desk.

Mac-Anne Frimpong

It’s the worst hospital ever!!!! Even hospitals in Ghana are much better....was there for over 6 hours no doctor nfn... not even check my pressure or anything... had to just leave ...

Matt Lisewski

My wife is 28 weeks pregnant and was directed here by her doctor to get a RhoGAM shot. She waited for 4 HOURS, without anything to eat or drink, to suddenly be told that they didn’t have her blood work on file to begin with, and to come back tomorrow. She is supposed to get this at 28 weeks and can’t put this off again as it was already postponed by the doctor before. She checked in with nurses many times and was told “we’ll get to you, don’t worry.” Seriously unprofessional. I’m extremely upset with the way my wife was treated.

Gika

Mean, rude and arrogant staff! Thumb down ????????

K S

The worst of the worst. I was brought there by ambulance (severe fractures on the leg). After insufficient treatment they tried to force me to organise my own and private transport to London. For sure it was not possible to even sit in a wheelchair so finally they organised Voyager to bring me to another hospital (they denied to bring me to London). The other hospital was the same unacceptable level and I received nothing but painkillers for more than a week. No surgery was done due to Grand River Hospital's fault for too long ! I sincerely recommend to stay away from this place due to the damage they did to me and the unnecessary pain they caused. As a result of their wrong treatment I have permanent nerve damage now and almost a year later still need to suffer pain. February 2020: permanent impairment resulting this places wrong treatment. AVOID AT ALL COST !

The staff here has been amazing recently, my son is sick really often due to damage to his lungs so with in one year we have been here over 100 times. There has been a couple of times where we had a rough encountering with staff but I understand what they have to deal with everyday with their 12 hour shifts, it is a tough job and we are so thankful to them because they have been fantastic with us. They attend us as fast as they can and always answer my many questions I have. They even give out stuffed animals to the little humans once in a while which helps soothe the kids.

varun bedi

Had our first baby here last week and I have to say there are amazing nurses and doctors in childbirth . You might have to wait at times (that's expected I guess ) but the care is exceptional , we were there for 5 days (labor + post birth care ) and all the nurses and doctors that took care of my wife and my baby in NICU were absolutely amazing ,always answered our questions, were patient and took great care of our little one and wife . I was skeptical of how our experience was going to be but I and wife are absolutely delighted to have had our son born here .

Hello World

Emergency room is not emergency at all. I literally went from crying in pain to browsing my phone after waiting there for five hours. If you come to this hospital(or all hospitals in Canada?) either you die from the pain or you ger better and recover yourself...what they do is just ask the same questions over and over again but no treatment and no doctors.....

Genevi Eve

I went in on Wednesday night due to a mental break from my disorder. From the moment I got there I was treated with disrespect and no empathy whatsoever from their "crisis team". One nurse named me stupid for coming in our of town for help. The crisis worker told me "to stop crying and suck it up". The nurses didn't have any beds, blankets or pillows for us even after midnight and waiting in the second emergency room for over 6 hours. At that time, I was beyond fed up with my own mistreatment and the fellow people who were there as well. As I spoke up, they removed me and put me in an isolated ward with very intensive care patients. By this time, the hospital has taken my anti psychotics and nicotine away (using a vape). In was withdrawing from my prescribed medication and lack of nicotine. The nurses in this section gave me a sleeping pill that, 4 hours later, I was still wired. I requested another pill or to talk to someone and she replied " were not doing anything for you at 4 in the morning." even though i was in crisis, and that was their jobs. My hell continued for 2 more grueling days until tranferred back to my cities hospital. I DO NOT recommend going there for psychiatric help. You will endure hell and mistreatment before you can ever get help.

Just to share my experience with Grand River: I went in with extreme abdominal pain back in March. I spent approx. 2 - 2.5 hours in the waiting room (didn't seem too bad for me) and was put into a bed. The doctor came in, asked me a bunch of questions regarding the pain, and then asked if I was pregnant... Which was a quick "no". I sat waiting for another 2 hours, was moved to a waiting room of chairs, sent for an ultrasound and when I finally got the results of my test, they determined I wasn't pregnant. Thank you. They decided to do a pap test and they would move me back to a bed as I couldn't sit any longer. The doctor disappeared and never came back, and the room the doctor promised to give me was given to another patient. I ended up discharging myself as I was sitting in a room for hours and could not sit any longer due to the amount of pain. Now - The redeeming factor in this - I ended up going to St. Mary's Hospital where they found the issue and transferred me back to Grand River. Once I was admitted I spent the night in the ER and then was taken to the Surgical Ward. The weekday/night nurses were amazing. They were quick and answered any question I didn't understand. I was taken for tests in a timely fashion by very friendly Porters and the first 6 days I spent there were fantastic. The last 2 days I was moved to a ward instead of semi-private due to a contagious patient (which was fine), but the nurses didn't seem to care as much. They didn't seem to communicate as often as before. I wasn't sure if it was due to the weekend shift instead of the weekday/night shift and not as much communication. I totally understand that the ER is based on priority, so I am not going to say that I was the worst patient there. But when you are crying in pain and you are telling the doctor you're not pregnant and that's all they are checking for - It gets a bit frustrating.

I was in the Emergency department in Grand river hospital because I have intense pain in my knee and ankle. My both ankle swollen and I couldn’t walk properly because of my pain. After 4.30 hrs of painful waiting doctor came and he didn’t even let me explain my situation . He said “I think you have slip disc”. Go do physiotherapy. I begged him to give me a strong pain relief and he said no, take tylanol, while He knows that I already had something more then tylanol and it’s not working. He didn’t do any test, x-ray or anything. What a shame , I live in Canada where doctors are just like butchers. They don’t have any feelings, they just show up for money. Even if I was about to die I will never come to Grand river emergency ever again. The doctor who saw me was just a pathetic looser.

One of the worse hospital and heartless stuff. I had a placental abruption with my first pregnancy and today I am here because I am pregnant and bleeding and been vomiting all in the pass 3 days and can barely move and I got here I waited like an hour to go to the triage and the nurses are not friendly at all no smiles no face expressions. So I explained to them my situation all she said ok go take a seat and I’ve been waiting for 6 hours now and I am vomiting here and no one is here to help why does this hospital even exist someone can easily died at their emergency care and no one will notice all the patients are leaving to go home but I can’t I have to wait. This is my first and last time here.

Our baby died due to their negligence. They kept telling us everything is ok, even when we told them about reduced fetal activity few hours earlier. The doctor who checked was a junior dr. And she didn't bother to use the ultrasound, when the machine was in the same room. Never listen to them when they tell we will call you, as they wait till your baby's heart rate starts to drop. After we lost our baby, and L&D manager came to tell us that they were very busy so they couldn't accommodate us and it's a problem with OHIP and the condition is same at every other hospital in Ontario.

I had an appointment on Nov 17 at the Outpatient - Day Surgery Clinic. The entire process was very well organized observing high Covid precautions. The staff, especially the 2 intake staff inside the clinic were very kind and professional. The nurse working with the doctor was excellent also. The initial main intake process at Patient Registration was very smooth and the volunteers and staff were great. Thanks to all of these people for their hard work under difficult circumstances.

fatih ozdemir

there is no one for assistance, we wait more than 5 hours and no doctor. it's a shame. it's hospital garbage

Ishor Kafley

Supper nice hospital . Friendly staff. Quality service.

Thank you to the fantastic ICU staff who take care of our family this weekend. Your patience, guidance & support was so appreciated during our difficult time.

I had a trip into the emergency room n October of this year . I had done some damage . I arrived at 12 am jyst after midnight and was whisked in to triage immediately. I am the biggest wimp ever when it comes to needles so the woman taking blood brought me a numbing cream so I felt less of the needle. I was very thankful . I was treated with dignity and respect even though I was a pain in the ass to them asking so many questions and such . I dont recall the Dr's name but he was from South Africa and absolutely wonderful . All of my nurses were incredibly as well. Thank you all for taking care of the worlds biggest wimp! <3

I like to consider myself an optimist, but I'm truly struggling to find a reason to give this hospital a single star rating. My husband had been sick for the past approximately 5 days with a high fever, nausea, runny nose, cough, etc. His fever would lower and then immediately sky rocket. I eventually suggested we go to emerge to try and get a proper answer. I have never encountered such a rude staff in my entire life, not only to us, but to the other patients. We checked in at 12:24 am, he was put in isolation because of recent travel (he went to Dubai, which the nurse replied was in the country "United American Emirates" like if you're going to be in a healthcare profession, you should familiarize yourself with the countries in the world so you can be prepared to help patients of diverse backgrounds???), and we saw a doctor at about 4:15 am. The conversation with the doctor was less than 2 minutes- he was rude and unapproachable. I understand we are lucky to be in a country where free healthcare is at our fingertips, however, if I'm going to be sitting there with someone I love who is in discomfort for over 4 hours before I can get an answer, I want it to be a somewhat reasonable experience. The way the nursing staff talked about the patients in the waiting room was unacceptable and we overheard everything while we were waiting in the registration office area. "That asian guy just doesn't respond when you call for him" *followed by immature laughter from the nursing staff* or "She's just not happy with any answer I give, it's not my fault they don't have health insurance and aren't from here" NO!!! You're right, it's not your fault, but maybe keep that opinion to yourself and keep a professional front when you're on duty???? Just an idea. I was disgusted and wanted to leave, however I tried to stay positive hoping that we were going to get a proper answer from the doctor. "It's just the flu or a virus, rest and drink fluids" is NOT good enough for me. Hospitals should be a place where people can find comfort in knowing that the staff has the patients best interest at heart, however, I left feeling the complete opposite about this environment. My husband and I will not be returning, and I encourage you to find another hospital before making the same decision we did.

Tim Osland

Worst hospital experience EVER. If you can get to St Mary's Guelph General or even Fergus go there first. The extra drive is worth it compared to the time it takes here that is even if you are allowed in

Abraham Ayaleu

If you go at night you will stay until morning because there is no doctor to see you .but this is the biggest hospital in waterloo region ????. It seems like free things can be done any time because anyways everyone is paid already with Canadian tax .

Grand River HospitalI Worst hospital in region...terrible wait time and worse nursing staff they just cam for $$ most time spending playing games on web ..rude not polite at all the hate job that are doing 90 % medical staff like that ..they need to be at close supervision ..Most time Hospital just have part time staff..because GRH don't want pay full time workers so we get bad treatment too.... AVOID GR HOSPITAL is probably the worst hospital in all of North America. My sister came to the emergency room at 9am, didn't get admitted until 9pm that day (12 hours later) and didn't see the doctor till the next morning. I was treated with no respect at Grand River....They all time have excuse for waiting time blaming people for being sick the are not there to judge the job is to help but they like better to take blanket and seat pretending that there are busy ...what they do they watch you tube and movies on \pc reading books booking vacation and showing photos of next house that they will buy ...WAKE UP PEOPLE WE ALL HAVE TO STAND UP TO STOP NURSES working hard playing games on pc watching movies making rude faces being disrespecting patient we are human s nobody perfect but please people look at other as brother and sister not LIKE GR staff rude mean

Kurtis Schwa

Great staff that i've seen. Typical wait times. Good food. Tim hortons. Recently expanded wait times. I was in an out of the ER once for a debilitating chest infection in two hours one lucky day.

Mona Cheilat

The Emergency walk in is the worst waited 7 hours for nothing wasted my time and money would have rather stayed home dying then to wait this long in pain for nothing worst place ever, old lady is about to have another stroke and still didn’t bring her in. It’s a shame as citizens the government has failed us with the amount of low staff they have unbelievable.

Rhea

I don't think I know anyone that doesn't have some sort of a horror story from this hospital. Usually relating to staff. But from my own experience you are very lucky to get a nice nurse here. Just recently had surgery here in day surgery and the first two nurses I had were dreadful. The wait times here are always ridiculous and because of the volume of patients the staff think they have an a excuse to treat people like dirt. I do anything I can to avoid going to this place.

Evelyn A.

It's great that this hospital still has foodd service until 8 pm on weekends and 9 pm on weeknights. They have choices of subway, Greek, and healthy bowls. Which I think is awesome. Too many hospitals are getting rid of this and don't even think about staff who do 12 hr shifts and sometimes would prefer to get to work grab something and not have to cook at home when there's so little time. Plus it generates money for the hospitals and that's not a bad thing. Nice service and good food there too. Plus the prices are pretty good!

John Jollimore

Terrible staff. horrible they did abasoulty nothing to help I don't even think that they knew what they were talking about. All they were conserend about was paying stupid games on the computer. I really wish me and my wife went to st Marrys. At lest someone there might have actually care and done something to help. If any needs to see a doctor go to st Marrys I'm sure it would be better then coming here. You would probly have better luck to just google your problem. I wish it had 0 stars so I could pick that cause it doesn't deserve this one star that it made me pick

Ryan Cheng

There is always a long wait here. The reception man at the ER is quite rude. Nurses who are responsible for diverting patients and take their temperature are joking in their rooms instead of being quick and efficient to try shorten the waiting line. They also charges you for wifi

Ana Cukilo

The service at this hospital is unorganized and horrific. I don’t think I’ve encountered ruder staff then at this hospital. If you ask a nurse a simple question, they display cold attitude and are of no help. Most of the nurses sit around on their phones or chat amoungst colleges, and provide no positive engagement with patients ; to attempt to make their experience more enjoyable. A psychiatrist who spoke to my friend after attempted self harm , was completely disrespectful and off topic while manipulating her answers. Strongly do not recommend this hospital unless you have time to wait for an abnormally prolonged period.

Frank Wang

This has to be one of the slowest hospitals. Im here at 1AM and there was literally no one here, and the expected wait time is 2hrs?? Not only that, I've been here for about 2hrs now, and no signs of moving up. What a waste of my time.

faezeh ghasemi

We came here and my friend had a lot of pain and no one was here to answer and then we came back home, his pain starts again and we called an ambulance and they took him to this awful hospital again and no one was there to check up him properly and answer our question, nurses behavior is so rude. Also, they don’t UNDERSTAND people situation. don’t waste your time in this garbage hospital

Pam

Every time I’ve checked in here everyone has been kind and gentle. The nurses are very overworked so I feel sympathy for them. They have lots of volunteers to show people around and do the comforting that a lot of patients need. I always felt taken care of and looked after. I know they are doing an absolutely enormous thankless job on a shoestring budget so I give them great credit for still be kind and very professional.

Life as we know it Life

Parking fees, parking fees, this hospital did an operation which corrected the problem, however they want major fees for services afterwards. When people are off work, they do not have the extra money to pay for everything they want you to have.

mimelo

Recently I have been in this place for a couple days, just had our baby ????... I just want to say thank you for everything to nurses and doctors for making our experience incredible, for taking care of my wife and baby, I never see such a nice treatment like this anywhere, very professional and they are the sweetest person ever seen in my life. Thank you for all the patience and attention!

Brian Stock

I received emergency surgery (ORIF hook plate) here due to a fractured collarbone. The nurses, surgeon (Dr Bayley), and anesthesiologist were all extremely kind and patient with my irrational fear of needles. The process for emergency surgery was a bit confusing because I received a Day Surgery booklet with misleading guidelines about food/drink (the booklet suggested downing 2 cups of apple juice in the morning) but the nurse who called the day before surgery cleared everything up. My follow-ups were also at GRH in the Fracture Clinic. Expect to wait several hours between your appointment time and being seen by the doctor, but again, the quality of care is exceptional when you do receive it. I would not hesitate to come here again for emergency, clinical or surgical care.

Jess Bronson

I wish I could give them no stars, was there for 6 hours just to be told to follow up with my family doctor, staff was very rude and not helpful. Ultrasound staff made me cry and yelled at me, will never go back! Drive the hour to Woodstock you’ll thank me!

Brian Sklar

I took my wife into the GRH emergency room early this morning to see if they could help her with constant nausea, tremmering, and just terrible sickness feeling. When we arrived there was no one else in the triage area or the waiting area so I thought we would be seen quickly. After our interview with the triage nurse we were sent over to the lady who was actually suppose to register my wife and provide her with a wrist band but she waved us away saying she had already done the paper work. So we went and sat down in the waiting area as we were told to do. After a few minutes I went to the lady who was suppose to register my wife and asked, "Doesn't my wife need a wristband?" She seemed quite surprised that she didn't have one and brought one out some minutes later and put it on her wrist. Then a middle aged gentleman came in went through the interview with the triage nurse was properly registered with the same lady who hadn't properly registered my wife and came and sat down across from us in the waiting area. He showed no signs of pain or discomfort and 5 minutes later a nurse came out and took him back into the treatment rooms area. In total my wife and I waited for over half and hour and finally my wife said she felt like she was going to pass out and wanted to go home. The type of treatment my wife received was similar to what I experienced back in November of last year when I went in there was a severe and painfully infection in my right shin. I had to wait 6 long painful hours before I was seen by a doctor while I watched others go in to the treatment area talking and laughing in no apparent discomfort. I ended up spending 4 days in the hospital while they tried to clear up the infection which was spreading up the inside of my right leg towards my torso. There is something terribly wrong with the triage system at GRH.

Alfred Codl

Simply put the single worst hospital in the nation. Went in for a suspected heart attack and had to sleep on the dirty ground because the lazy bums wouldnt give or find me a bed. Terrible hygene, idiotic and ill-trained staff with horrible non caring attitudes. You could come in with a gunshot wound and you will hearing the awful nurses and garbage secretaries snickering in the background. God forbid you drop your ipod as well or it will be quickly snatched by either one of the staff as a sick keepsake or one of the extremely cold and aggressive sadistic security guards. In all seriousness and honesty my fellow canadians you would be better off in a 15th century plague hospital. Good day.

Andy Medwid

GRH Nurses are the best! Skilled, competent, respectful, awesome, and innovative are some of the traits they show each shift. RESPECT!

Karol Szymanski

Horrible wait times. 6+ hours to get admitted with very serious condition. Denying a new mother a breast pump because "its not what we do". Even though there are 10 lined up against a wall. Slow to deliver scheduled medication. General neglect. If you can go to any other hospital, do it!!

Dani Almend

We seen the blood specialist at Grand river as my wife was on blood thinners and had to come off them to try and get pregnant. Dr. Bernard asked us to book appointment once we got pregnant to look at blood thinner options. We called the office for over a month and a half with no call back. We ended up having to come to the hospital to actually talk to someone. At which point we where informed that my wife needed another referral from family doctor to see Dr. Bernard again...the receptionist new exactly who my wife was and that she had called and left multiple messages.....This is very disappointing that they couldnt have the common courtesy to call us back and let us know we needed another referral. What if my wife would have had complication because of this gross negligence...if it was a simple referral needed why couldnt they communicated this. Very disappointed in the staff and extremely bad service from the receptionist. We will know make the 1hr+ drive to McMaster as we have no trust that Grand River hospital has our well being as a top priority. Seriously diappointed in our Health Care

Denise Lalonde

My boyfriend Peter just spent the past weekend at Grand River (came home today) and he was more than impressed with all of the staff and impressed with how professional and friendly each and every staff both in the ER and once he was on his room on 6 South. His first nurse Lindsay went above and beyond and Julia the physio lady but again each and every staff member treated him with respect and kindness. He also says both ambulance attendants treated him just as well. Great job Grand River ????????

Alice Philippe

I underwent minor wrist surgery (removing a cyst), 12-minute surgery. Surgeon: Dr Peter Schuringa. Anesthesiologist: Dr Murray Mahaffey. I underwent a general anesthesia without consent. I consulted a surgeon in the same specialty as Dr. Schuringa, a specialist who confirmed to me that general anesthesia was not necessary. Before surgery I was asked to remove most of my clothes. Panicked and scared by this absurd request, my husband and I asked to speak to Dr Schuringa and the anesthesiologist. They both refused to meet with us. I met the anesthesiologist for the first time, once I was in the OR in complete shock. In the OR, they took off my first blouse, made me lie down on the table and a nurse pulled up my gown to my hips, I tried to stop her from doing it and questioned her because I didn’t understand why she did that. For any answer, this nurse just started laughing. Dr Schuringa and Dr Mahaffey put me to sleep against my will and that was the beginning of the end for me. I woke up almost naked, my arms and shoulders removed from my blouse that was just placed on my chest. My husband witnessed this. After the surgery neither Doctor Schuringa nor Dr Mahaffey came to see me, why? As it was a day surgery, I was able to go home and there I began to feel atrocious pelvic pain and a bit later I noticed that I was bleeding from a part of my body that I let guess, absolute horror! Following my symptoms I met several doctors, performed several medical tests that proved the presence of blood, met the S. Assault Centre, filed a complaint with the Police, solicited tests with the Forensic (tests that also proved the presence of blood) and filed a complaint with the College of physicians and surgeons. The verdict from the CPSO is in, the lack of my consent to the general anesthesia has been confirmed. The College did not explain the reasons for my symptoms or comment the fact that my husband witnessed that I was almost naked in the PACU. I’ve consulted several lawyers who haven’t moved a finger for me, so please don’t be fooled like me, if anything happens to you, be informed you have 2 years to file a lawsuit! Destroyed by what happened to me, I want to inform people and ask you to document yourself before putting your life in the hands of certain people. Ask the doctors to write down your wishes and what he intends to do. Request a copy of your medical file. Visit the CPSO website and you will see that many doctors are convicted of s. assault. Read the information on the Internet, like Read the information on Internet, like those concerning anesthesiologist George Doodnaught, obstetrician Peter Potts, Williams V. Grand River Hospital (2016 ONCA 793), neurologist Jeffrey Sloka…..

I am not the person to write reviews, but with what I saw in 13 hours have compelled me to voice my concern, after all I am a hard working taxpayer. I went to the hospital after I was sent to the emergency from my family doctor. Went through triage 5 hours., blood work. No problem. I was then called into another room, sat for another hour, no problem. Called into another room, this time it had a bed. I was asked to provide a urine sample. There was not much urine since I had nothing to eat nor drink the night before and here I am told I should have nothing to eat nor drink until I see the doctor. No problem, I did the urine sample and sat in the room for 1.5 hours before someone came and took the urine sample. Here we are into 7.5 hours. You look at the nurse’s station, there are 5 nurses. Some on cellphones, some chatting, while I wait. I decided to talk to an older nurse. She apologize and said they are in the middle of shift change and it’s a bit confusing, of course, I am confused myself. Anyway, she assured me she will look into it. The doctor came, I was not changed into hospital gown. So, I have to get changed. I hurried but I had to wait again for the other round. I am in a room with a bed for over 3 hours and yet they complain there are not enough beds. That’s because they cannot manage time. Had ultrasound done, now I was transferred to a sitting area. Sat for an extra 5 hours before I was told I am unwell and needed further medical attention. The nurses are so rude, you would think you are disturbing their social affairs. One nurse said to me 13 hours is a record for me, well it is lady and you know who you are. Poor poor management of patient care. So so disappointed, they speak to you as though you are stupid and they are doing you a favour. Someone needs to look into this, because 13 hours, you loose a day off work, plus parking, plus a $20 fee for a doctor’s note and sloppy treatment shouldn’t be.

Bob Wayne

I really appreciate the services that I receive at this hospital. I have been dealing with different specialties at GRH and I can say that everyone, staff, Nurses and doctors are super helpful. I moved from Vancouver to Kitchener and I have lots of medical problems. I'm lucky to have such an amazing hospital in my city

Herrgie

Nurses and Dr were great in ER.. Terrible set up. No privacy for all, curtains what the heck.Shame on the Higher ups to let the ER get into such a state. Using rooms for sitting areas. It is wore out, just like the poor nurses who have to work in such tight quarters. Too many people using The EMERGENCY DEPT for NON Emergencies. Come on people.....

Petra Edinger

Terrible hospital. Rude, miserable nurses and care. Disgraceful behaviour for those who are caring for the sick. Shame on you!!°

Ken Schmidt

I went for a Colonoscopy August 10 2020. I would like to give a special thanks to all the team who helped me through this. Very professional team who made this experience the best it could be. Again a very special thanks to Grand River Hospital.

Folcar Zirku

Had an appointment at internal medicine for noon (12 pm) waited till 1:30 and still not seen by a doctor, then final straw was when after this whole wait time they let in a lady that arrived 45 mins after me go in before me. Why do they even bother scheduling appointments if they don't abide by them? I simply left without seeing the doctor and that sums up what kind of service to expect from that hospital

Carl Homolka

Worst hospital ever. My 78-year old grandmother was hit by a drunk driver and she's been lying in emergency for over 6 hours now and still hasn't been seen by a doctor. She's in terrible pain and can't even take her regular perks without doctors permission.

李骜然

I am really angry about this hospital! My boyfriend dropped down from motorcycle, 911 brought him to Grand River Hospital. And then put him on a bed for more than 4 hours! No testing, just bandaged the bleeding area. The surgery was at least 6 hours after the accident! The doctors said this is a big surgery, I cannot say why big surgery should let bleeding patient to wait for more than 6 hours! And the doctors said he should stay on the hospital for a few days. I would see he should be the “sickest” patient that Grand River Hospital stands for. Worst hospital I have ever seen.

Victoria Scodras

Very disrespectful staff. They seem indifferent when they speak to you. Took them 30min to get a bag of ice for my mom's swelling. She was in a wheel chair and they told her she should be walking on her broken ankle because " I've seen people with worse be walking So you should be able to" Every time I go I feel dismissed and ignored. I would rather die of my ailments than have to be subjected to the way I'm treated when I go to Grand River Hospital!

Norman Pereira

Arrogance exudes everywhere at GRH. I came for a blood test and waited almost an hour. When I asked what the delay was, they said "we forgot that we had your paperwork " in the most condescending way. I wish I could respect these Frontline workers in this COVID time, but I can't respect the GRH staff.

Dana Kuncova

August 22/2018 -The rudest and most disrespectful staff !!!!! My husband was sick for 3 days with very high fever up and down very bad cough. Our family doctor is on vacation so another doctor seen him and prescribe him strong antibiotics. He was not getting any better but worst so I took him to grand river hospital with 40 C fever so the nurse said to just keep taking his medication and advil or tylenol and go home, but my husband said he would like to see the doctor. You come to hospital because you are sick to see the doctor and need medical attention not to send you home !! Like there is nothing wrong with you !! If that would be her family member she would act like a nurse what oath to help people. We were there for 3 hours and still waiting . Another nurse came to take his blood pressure and check his fever so it went a bit down. There was new people coming so we thought it should be our turn so all I said we should be next and she snapped at me how do I know we are next that there be maybe 40 people before us. What I am trying to say that we were waiting so long my husband so sick and on top of that she was very rude , disrespectful . I am for sure older then her, but regardless you treat everybody with respect no matter how old they are or how they look !!!!!. They have a sign at the waiting room " no harassment and violence is allowed " but she is the one was harassing me and raising her voice so the security should come to calm her down. People with her personality should not work in the hospital!!!! She had 0 feelings ! Animals get treat it better then us human being when we come to hospital !!!! I am writing this because this a not 1 st experience I had in this hospital. They don't care if you sick or die that is there oath they made to help people ??? !! They treat you like what a F... you are doing there !

Tiffany.A Little

This hospital is terrible. I have epilepsy and had a seizure this morning. Well it's been 4 and a half hours of waiting and whenever I ask about wait time they say I'm next on the list. The hospital attendant is very rude as well everyone he has talked to he asks why they are here as if he is annoyed by their being here. We watched the hospital attendant escort an older man out of the hospital for complaining about how long it was taking him to be seen. We have been told for the past 2 hours we were next on the list. I've watched about 5 people go in before me and they had showed up only 20 mins before had with a cough. Would not recommend this hospital if needed to be seen immediately.

Ishant Gandhi

The hospital doesn’t have a good system. I gave my covid test and I received a call that I got negative test result. they gave me number where I can call to get my test results proof. I called more than 50 times no body picks the call. Its such a bad system over there.

Lennox Gilbert

I just got off a call with a representative and their tone was so rude. I just hope this is not the case for all hospital staff.

yuonpi luk

I was in the hospital nearly 7 hours for a 15 min visit. After 5.5 hours of waiting, they finally called me. The doctor came with the results 1.5 hours later. Problem is her first language is not English and she was unable to explain what my problem was, or address any questions or concerns I had. She merely named the problem, but then could not understand my questions, and could not explain things further as a limitation of language. I don't want to make it sound like her language barrier makes her any less knowledgeable in the field of medicine, but if she can't communicate with her patients then it's a huge problem. I had to google my diagnosis, which is exactly what I wanted to avoid, because the doctor was unable to provide me the level of care I think I deserve. I didn't want to press further or ask for another doctor, because at that point it was 6 pm and I only had a small breakfast, all day, my head was spinning and the hospital uncomfortably cold, and to wait for another doctor to see me I probably would have had to wait an extra 3 hours if they would have allowed that at all. This hospital should be ashamed.

B L

I would've choosen 1 star if possible or minus 5 stars. Seriously, This is the worst hospital I've ever been to. Came in to get my leg checked out after having a tree land on it pinning me. Waited like 7-8 hours to get taken from the waiting room. Waited another 2-3 hours to get x-rays done. Coming in with crutches unable to put weight on my leg. I was sent home being told there's nothing wrong all looks good. Ok so I had to take couple days off of work, to give my leg a rest plus so I can walk again without crutches. Luckily I had a rod and pins in my leg(from a previous surgery)that helped me stay on my feet. Few days after staying at home rest I went back to work, working for a logging company I worked for about a month. Had to quit my job cause of pain in my leg. So I decided to go to a "different" hospital to get it checked out again. Turns out it was fractured! From what I've seen in this place. I wouldn't go to gr hospital, ever, if all possible

Lee Ann

Staff is nice and polite! Love the restaurants in the cafe. Never had any major issues here after countless visits!

dylan brown

DR BANJO IS A WASTE OF TIME SPEAKS NO ENGLISH HIS STAFF ARE VERY RUDE AND HIS ONLY EDUCATION SEEMS TO BE PUSHING PILLS OFF OF A CHART VERY POOR EXPERINCE NOT THE PLACE TO GET HELP AT ALL

julie schito

Cheryl,Stacey, Megan and all the others were a bunch of the nicest ,friendliness girls. Thanks again Julie 5c North

Cindy W

Except the routine wait, no complain! Doctor is really professional and nurses are nice! Love them fixed my son’s dislocated jaw!

Lucas Dietrich

My wife and I have had some great service from great doctors at this hospital, however last Friday we took our son who’s under 3 in because he was holding his ears saying they hurt and then vomited. We thought it could be a ear infection and wanted a professional to check him over. Doctors office was closed, after hours service not open... so we went to emergency. When we finally got to see a doctor (im sure we weren’t the priority and I get that) he barely took a minute to dismiss our concerns, said it’s just a cold and kids have pains. Monday afternoon we got a doctors appointment and now he’s on antibiotics with both ears having infection. Thanks for nothing doc. Now to be fair this was only one doctor and we have had some doctors and nurses who have gone over the top at this hospital also.

Abdirisak Aden Abdullahi

Grand river hospital is one of most poorly managed medical facilities in the world, rude staff, poor response, long wait as long as even more 24 hours without seen the Doctor. The waiting Rooms areas are dirty and nurses just chat inside their rooms and laugh while the patient are critically ill. I have been to couple of medical hospitals in the world include some in Ontario and never seen like Grand River. My little daughter put necklace cube in her nose and almost was unable to breath well because the cube was blocking the nose, moreover we came to the emergency department to have her the cube to be removed,it was 7pm when we came in and seated at the waiting room until 12pm. We eventually got called in and sit in another one waiting room inside, this time was even much longer. Who ever the manager is must be fired and the staff must undergo review because we all pay 13% of taxes and suffer in the hospitals like animals. Even animals are better than humans according to the behaviour of Grand Hospital in Kitchener because animals might get quicker access to veterinary Doctor. As ontarians we need the government to intervene this issue. It must be sorted out and the service at every hospital must be better one for all. Hell to staffers at Grand River.

I have only had good experiences here and don't really understand some of these negative reviews. This past week I needed to visit the Fracture Clinic as an inpatient. I arrive 30 minutes before my appointment and registered without difficulty or getting lost. The ladies behind the desk were extremely efficient and cheerful. The Fracture Clinic had many people waiting, but again I was taken care of quickly and professionally. My doctor (Dr. Shuringa) was excellent and took the time to explain everything that was happening and never did I feel that he was in a rush to move me along or that I was just a number another number on the list.

This is the worst hosptial. Don't ever expect any courtesy or kindness from the doctors. They seem like they don't want to ever do their best jobs and want to cut corners just to get patients out the door - They don't take the time to thoroughly evalute their patients well being and don't listen to what loved ones have to say either. Also, they are very rude most of the time. I am very appalled, disgusted and upset that we have such unprofessional so-called doctors that work there... ????????????

My husband was taken by ambulance to Grand River emerge at eleven o'clock at night, we still had not been seen by a doctor by six the next morning.

Horrible mental healthcare! Went in as a minor dealing with suicidal ideation. Took at least an hour to be taken from emergency to the psychiatric lounge, and spent about 6 hours just sitting there. Bathroom was disgusting and obviously hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. Meanwhile many other mentally ill and distressed patients were sitting around for lengths of time between 4-12 hours while many nurses and security guards laughed about pictures on their phones or vacation time. Saw the crisis nurse after a couple of hours and was told by her that I “chose to be transgender.” A little while after that a nurse was kind enough to find me a stretcher to lay down on. My mom was sent home with the promise of finding me a bed, but I was left in a stretcher in emergency all night! In the morning I met with the psychiatrist who upped my antidepressants and sent me home, saying that a bed would not open up in the next couple of days and he thought I’d be fine at home. There are only like 13 beds for adolescent mental illness patients!!! If you’re looking for help with mental health you’ve gotta find a different hospital, because being in emergency for 13 hours made me feel like an animal that nobody even noticed. I’ve heard lots of horror stories about Grand River. Some people have told me that London has good mental health support - although anywhere would be better than Grand River Craphole.

This is a great hospital. I am happy with the care I received. Everyone was excellent. I did not have to wait and the doctors and nurses were amazing. Thank you Grand River Hospital. I love Dr. Hossan, great sense of humor

Lasheida Beauty

I am astonished about the service I received at this hospital. Went in for day surgery, Dr Alarie and the medical staff treated me in a way that I will never forget! They made me feel more then confortable during the all process, continuosly cheching on me, and making sure that Ivwas confortable. Thank you and keep up with the great job.

Have experienced with the hospital for 2 medical reasons. 1. Maternity & Child birth 2. Emergency admittance for my mom Child Birth Experience:The Hospital is very busy as they struggled to admit me for induction. For any medical issue when I went into Triage, the wait time was very long (4-6hr) but their diagnosis and monitoring is pretty good. During child birth process I realized that they have expert Nurses besides having good doctors. They knew what to do when perfectly. I always felt they need more doctors since most of the times the doctors were hard to reach. The nurses were very patient, knowledgeable, helpful and most importantly during my delivery me & my family realized that we are in good hands. The Nurse Aura, Sana, Crystal to name a few helped me in all through and got necessary medical attention. I'd highly recommend the hospital if you are planning for child birth here. Emergency : The wait time was less and all labwork was done very fast. Though again the wait time for doctors to review results are pretty long and they kept under observation until they are assured that you are out of risk.

I had a bathtub slip and a very nasty fall on Saturday March 24th. I hit my back of the head to the wall and my right shoulder blade took the brunt of the impact upon coming down in the bathtub. I was dizzy for about 10 minutes. We went to walk in clinic on University Plaza, Waterloo and the doctor sent us to the Grand River hospital. This was the best hospital experience I have ever had out of many visits for my daughter or wife Emergency hospital visits. Quick, Efficient and Caring attitude by the entire hospital team from Triage to nurses to X-Ray, CT Scan imaging. Came back from The Grand River Hospital after the head CT Scan and back X-rays in the evening after spending only about 4-5 hours for the entire process. Not bad considering past experiences. The Head CT Scan report is okay but the right main shoulder blade "Scapula" has a fracture. I was informed and educated through human anotomy books of my shoulder scapula by the Nurse Practitioner "Michelle". She was a great help in removing stress and was very helpful. She went on to show the X-Ray imaging on the computer screen for our peace of mind and told us about the recovery process. The shoulder scapula is supposed to be one of the strongest bone in the body and less than 1% people get it fractured. Normally the recovery period is about 6-8 weeks. No cast but a sling and pain killers and anti inflammatory medicine is prescribed. As per the hospital advice take rest. Overall my wife and I are very happy with the service. Thank you Grand River hospital and please continue to give excellent service to patients.

Jim Ahmad

Extremely poor health care facility, ER could take 5-6 hours average wait time tests not included, Waterloo region really need to work on health care.

Barry Newell

Excellent care and service. We were in and out of the fracture clinic within 2 hours, which I didn't think was to bad. The Dr explained everything thoroughly, and the nurses were very caring and professional.

sheetal vasishta

I was so impressed with the MRI department.Annette was so polite and helpful as I was little bit scared being claustrophobic. She was so nice & motivating as my earlier experience was just opposite. I guess you should have more staff like her. I am really grateful to her for her support care n attention.

Karl Belan

My wife had a scheduled C-Section here in Feb 2017. Everything went smoothly and we were quite happy with the staff and the private room where we stayed during the recovery. They provided breastfeeding advice for my wife and made available someone for a personal consultation to ensure our baby learned to latch well. I give 4 stars only because we had such an amazing experience with the staff at Guelph General hospital with our first child that I would have to rate that experience better. Keep in mind that the Guelph maternity ward was nearly empty when we were there and the level of care is likely related to how many births are happening when you are there.

Ajit Oberoi

Worst can be a little a word to describe this hospital , as an international student you should never visit this hospital and mark my words they just say to you wait and wait like i have waited for 2 hours at the so called emergency section of the hospital and they told me they had no idea when my turm comes and when i said that i am being waiting for 2 hours and not feeling well plus i have to go and do some work too , they said you have to wait , please understand this hospital employees a person visit there if he or she is not feeling well so they should be checked out by doctor in optimal time. And even at the desk of emergency room there is no one available so i can cancel my appointment so to go to another clinic and have to went off and then call them and in return the girl over there said that i will mark you as left , literally damn you hospital staff.

Vince Patterson

Looong wait times but the nurses are very nice and understanding. Can't blame them people.

Muhammad Hadi

I always avoid going to hospital until extremely necessary. I experienced breathing problem at night. Went to emerge & there were only two other patients in emerge. I wasn’t checked by a doctor in about 5 hours until it was morning & I could go to my family doctor. I returned home unchecked. I have never experienced this in any hospital in different countries I lived throughout my life. It only takes 5 minutes for a doctor to check a patient. I know that GRH does this intentionally to discourage people from going to emerge but where can we go at night in these kind of emergencies. Is it what we pay taxes for?

Ross Simpson

I was waiting for my son to have a procedure done in the downstairs waiting room and I noticed the older lady that directs patients to the admission counter. Please tell her what a great service she is providing. She was pleasant and helpful to everyone that came in. You are very fortunate to have such a great person in your building. This was during the morning of May 4th.

Sara Farhangi

It was a very weird hospital in Ontario. It was not that clean and wifi system was awful not working at all. 90% of nurses were so cranky and not that professional they give all medications to the patient and tell them to administrate by their self !

Ashwinder Singh

We was treated like i am in a 5 star hospital. We have 3 babies at different hospitals but we have best experience in Grand River hospital for the delivery. If i have 100 stars to give, i will give 100 stars.

Hollie Marie

If I could give zero stars I would. I understand that GRH staff is very overworked and probably exhausted all the time but the care here is absolutely brutal. The emergency department is extremely unsanitary. The bed I was in had blood smeared on the walls. There was also a lady that was crying in pain because she had kidney stones and the nurses told her she had to be quiet meanwhile they are talking extremely loud and giggling to each other about their weekend plans. They also place patients in a extremely small room packed with chairs to wait several hours after being "seen" by a doctor. People are throwing up centimeters away from you and are denied a bed. Just brutal.

N N

A patient came in asking for medical help with a mental health issue on June 18th, 2016. He waited for 9 hours to see a doctor and was repeatedly ignored, told to go sit down and told that someone would be with him shortly. After waiting for 9 hours, and not being attended to he went home and hung himself within 2 hours after not getting any help. This was a gifted musician, someone's son, someone's best friend, well known in the musical community. It's appalling that in this day in age, those with mental health issues are treated this way. Being in his state he should have been triaged better than that. Had he been attended to, he would have made it through Father's Day. Those who ignored his needs need to assess their own reaction to him that fateful evening. Hopefully changes will be made so others will not go through the same.

Nadeem Tayeb

Took my 4 year old daughter because she had nausea and stomach issues at 5:30 am and we were finally got to see the doctor at 2:00 pm, the doctors and nurses were all busy discussing there next travel destination while patients were waiting to receive treatment, non of them seem motivated to help and serve the purpose that they are there for, this hospital is full staff and well equip to tackle Emergency situation but a bit of attention from management is required to educate the staff about thier core objectives which is patient care, not loudly speaking of hot spot travel destination, leaning back in comfort chairs and pretend like they are busy and taking the initiative to go an extra step further than whats expected of them.

Em Pea

Paycuts have destroyed Canada's health care system. Especailly the mental care unit. 6 plus hour wait time. No nighttime doctors for emergency care half the patients are in stretchers in hallways. I can't imagine the stress the staff feel. I also once had a full blown seizure in a wheelchair in the hospitals emergency room. I stayed conscious and watched as the triage nurse walked up to me and said " your fine." And went back into the room to deal with another client. I continued to wait 3 plus hours in excruciating head and body pain ( these are the symptoms caused by the seizure) and dry heaving in a puke container until I finally had to leave because I couldn't stand to sit any longer. Most nurses have been sweet and kind to my family and myself there but this lady couldn't even wait for me to finish a fit before going back into non urgent patient waiting to be registered. THIS WAS PRE-COVID, THINGS HAVE ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. THE GOVERNMENT REALLY NEEDS TO REPAIR FUNDING TO THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IT DESTROYED BEFORE A PANDEMIC AND RAISE ALL THE NURSES WAGES!

Sandy Pereira

The reno clinic and PD clinic staff and professional doctors have been nothing but kind, very helpful and on top of what they do. Dr. Gregor.. kidney specialist and nurses yitka, katherine, cathy, and kathleen have gone above and beyond for my mothers care. I can't say a bad thing about our experiences with the hospital. -maria and sandy calhau

Nora Mckay

Terrible hospital. The staff in all departments is downright mean. Why work in health care if you hate your job and don't like people? If there was a way, I wouldn't even give 1 star. I'm not being mean spirited or anything. It has to be truly atrocious for me to complain.

Deborah N

what a joke 17 hour wait and sent home and told to come back next week to meet with someone about meds!!! True tax dollars at work paying for nothing!!!!!

iNiNa B

I dont understand these low reviews. Aside from a few bad apples, which exist anywhere we go, I am beyond impressed with the good people working in this hospital. Nothing but helpers, doing more than they share of "light work" (for the lack of a better description. Sincerely !

Rico Tidham

Some of the best service I've ever had anywhere for anything

Brianna O'Brien

lowest wait times ive ever experienced and very nice staff that were thorough and clear!!

Joseph Campbell

Wife is here for her gallbladder to be taken out. Surgery was postponed 2 hours and 45 minutes. Held her overnight and she signed discharged papers at 10:45 am. It's now 2:55pm and still waiting to hear from the doc about meds for pain! Staff is strained to the max. Better to go to St Mary's if possible!

Jesse Davidson

Went for an MRI and was rudely shunned away by the nurse for not having an ear piercing out. I've had MRI's here before and never had to take it out (this was a follow up) and she told me that is impossible, I'm a lier, and "stop wasting my time, there's the exit" then walked away. I've never been treated so poorly by a so called healthcare "professional".

Mena Azab

0 star if I could. Wait times are extremely long and the triange nurses don't know what they are doing. I come in with a fractured wrist and the nurse doesn't send me for an x-ray and tells me to wait for the doctor. What do you think the doctor is going to say when he checks up on me? GO GET AN XRAY, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. When someone hurts their leg or arm they need to get an x-ray to see what wrong it very simple. Absolutely worthless hospital no wonder it's a 2.4 rating. Update after 4 years: ok hospital

they treat poor people like garbage call them names drug addicts and don't listen instead force you out the hospital when u have ptsd

Every time I've visited the ER they've been really great. Really efficient system to organize priority emergencies. Kauffman building had really good service too when I had to visit there. The parking isn't the best and I find myself always late for appointments (regardless of arriving early) because I am trying to find parking. The only department I've found inefficient was the blood lab on the third floor. I sat there for over 25 minutes with a number before anyone even knew I was there. I was the only one and waited quite a long time. I think maybe a system update there is needed, in terms of at least knowing when someone arrives and takes a number.

Urgent counseling recieved after rotten night of mistreatment and abuse by the nurses and doctor at Grandriver hospital. I have been bleeding from since January it's now November and during this time has gone to Grandriver every two months with hopes of one day meeting a humane doctor who will one-day see the need to treat me for my symptoms, I'm still waiting. Tonight's doctor was the rudest she insisted that my blood work is normal everytime I requested help for my symptoms and literally told me to go home , she gave no treatment, was cold with no empathy or bedside manner whatsoever and after I requested a sick note for my symptoms she said the sick note will only say that I was at the hospital and will cost $20 So said so done. So I left the hospital bleeding dizzy and weak 20 dollars poorer , feeling abused and worthless with no treatment for my symptoms and anxious and worried about how I will go in to work and care for the vulnerable in such poor physical health and whether I will lose my job with such a useless and expensive sicknote. DOCTORS and nurses at Grandriver if u cannot be humane and non territorial towards patients, please leave the money alone and go work with products. This is the same hospital where I was hit by a nurse during labour...In all,my first birthing experience as a mom was a complete nightmare from.hell.at Grandriver hospital.Because of the trauma I have not been able to.go forward and have anymore kids. After that experience. Each time you try to show concern about their behaviour, the quickly and rudely refer you to patients relations, whobviously patiently relations at grandriver is a defunct part of the institution since bullying and abuse by nurses and doctors continue to thrive. I'm not sure if Grandriver is waiting to hear that my condition developed into something and I died ,since time and time again they have rudely refused to give me treatment even as my symptoms continue to get worse. Grandriver hospital is now so powerful that the Nurses and doctors at Grandriver hospital can now decide who lives and who dies? Had they treated me for my symptoms it would.not have developed in to.a daily bleeding situation and now Stillthey still continue to refus me treatment.Nurses and doctors at grandriver....one day you too would need and depend on the kindness and non bias integrity of a health care professional to recover from a disease , I hope you will remember what you did when you were in the position provide that type of care.

Renee Suska

I was in emergency and I have to say though I had a long wait because they were extremely busy, all of the nurses from the triage nurse to all the emergency nurses I couldn't have asked for better care. They were extremely helpful and kind.Thank you to all of them I salute you for all the work you do. Bless you all.

If I could have my father transferred I would. The nurses who work in 5 North need some serious self-care, should consider a different ward or an entire career choice. Your working with patients who suffered a stroke and their family member who are feeling like they too are in crisis. Ignoring them, telling them 5 minutes and still being ignored 45minutes later is not appropriate. Saying my father is non-compliant but when asked for assistance for the washroom needed to wait an extra 30minutes? I would be irritated or "non-compliant" too. I could go on and on about the mannerisms of the nurses working and the disappointment I have in the attitude they present to their patients and loved one. Absolutely horrible. Ask for everything in writing. Hold them accountable because clearly nobody does. To the PSW on 5 North. Thank you for your kindness and compassion for simply addressing me and letting me feel heard. The nurses could learn a lot from you if their egos let it.

Not sure which one is worse: death or going in as a patient under intense, excruciating pain, waiting for 5 hours in the emergency department at GRH. All that money has been spent on the ION light rail train, so I guess the region must have think that the intense pain was worth it.

My mother was brought to the emergency two days ago. We stayed there until a bed opened up in the hospital for her. Those nurses work their butts off with smiles on their faces! Thank you Amanda, Steph, Wayne, Darlene, Marianna, Jessica, Laura and Kim. You guys are rock stars!

julie hentges

Even with all the cutbacks the care I received in Emergency yesterday was second to none! Shoutout to Triage nurse Julie, nurse Brianna and Doctor Robert Wicket You guys couldn't have been kinder and I thank you

Grand River Hospital congratulates itself as being designated as Waterloo Region’s stroke hospital. Shame. Shame on them all. My wife, Sabrina, aged 40 years at the time, suffered what turned out to be a catastrophic midbrain stroke on Thursday November 22, 2007. When the EMT ambulance personnel contacted this hospital to report that they were bringing in an early middle-aged female patient showing signs of of right side weakness, an inability to hold herself in a seated position, slurred speech, incoherence, and drooping facial expression she was REFUSED admission to this stroke centre. No justifiable explanation at that time was given. She was dumped off at St Mary’s ER, our cardiac centre (why cardiac (heart attack) and stroke (brain attack) are separated I’ll never understand). The EMTs extended to us ‘good luck’ and then inexplicably expressed the sentiment she could ‘sleep it off’. Here we languished in the waiting room for more than 6-7 hours while my wife’s brain slowly died. I know now that there was considerable background talk initiated by the EMTs that a fit woman in her forties could not have a stroke; she must be having a hangover. So... No triage, no follow up, no bed, not until she lost consciousness, fell out of her wheelchair, and hit her forehead on the concrete floor. An ER bed then showed up immediately. We waited another 7-8 hours in this bed while Sabrina was losing her speech, her sight, her ability to swallow and loss of feeling creeping up from her legs, to her hips, abdomen, to her arms and then shoulders. This was now late morning Friday. No CAT, no MRI, no bloodwork, no clotbuster was even considered. Because hospital services shut down on the weekends my wife was finally shunted to a bed in the COPD ward to be dealt with on Monday. By this time she could not talk, move, eat, drink or swallow. But it was the weekend.... so no scans or imaging, no spinal tap, no intubation, no feeding tube, no IV to keep her fluid levels up. I spent the next 60+ hours vacuuming her throat out every 10-15 minutes so that she wouldn’t die of asphyxiation. After much persistence and the threat of a publicly shaming, a St. Mary’s doctor reluctantly consented to ordering an MRI. But not there. My wife was shuttled by patient transport to the by-now hated GRH. Here, approx 90 long hours after the ambulance first picked her up from our home, imaging for the first time showed brain stem damage. Was she admitted to the stroke hospital? No, nonononono. Of course not. She was refused again by Grand River and sent back to St. Mary’s, a hospital that is not equipped to care for stoke patients. Twelve years later, significant impairment is permanent and she will not recover any more function than what she has fought for over the last decade. I will not allow her care under any circumstances be located in Waterloo Region. Her current care is always referred to London, Mississauga, North York and the Toronto health networks that seem to work with each other, as opposed to the insular and territorial managements that are entrenched in Waterloo Region. Having been born and raised in Waterloo, but having lived and studied in Toronto, Hamilton, and London, I can fairly say our local care system is shameful. In the ideal fantasy scenario, each and every person in a decision or policy-making management or executive position would be summarily sacked. No compensation, no severance, no golden parachutes. The management systems of Toronto, for example, would be imposed and enforced on Waterloo Region healthcare, with each and every former employee seeking re-employment retrained under contract. These hires would be monitored during a mandatory 2-5 year probationary period, depending on the level of responsibility, to minimize the risk of the current territorial, self-aggrandizing bad habits returning. That is, however, unlikely and with that the administrative levels of GRH have my utmost contempt.

Some nurses at NICU are very rude. I saw one of them forcing a baby to drink milk and saying loud "i didnt sign up for 4 babies". They try to send your baby home as soon as they can so that they don't have look after two many babies. When they decide that your baby is going home, they will not be nice to you with questions or asks for help. But again some other nurses are super nice. I just hope they don't be mean to parents who are already stressed with a premature baby in NICU.

Osman (osmanamg)

thieves just looking to rip you off whenever they can. wife had a private room booked for childbirth, they increased the price by $20 after we arrived. When I asked about TV in the room that was an ADDITIONAL $20 a day, we were there at 7am, and I was told I can pay now, and someone will be around later in the afternoon to activate it? the TV in the waiting room was also broken, no magazines or books to read, just awful. for the amount of money I spent we could have had a 5 star hotel. Will avoid this hospital at all costs.

Noraa 666

Been here 10 times at least. Shortest wait was 1.5-2 hours. Longest wait after I got jumped in my 20's was 8 hours plus, then I walked out because they can't do anything about cracked ribs and I was tired of waiting. I feel really bad for the staff as it's almost always busy. People just coming in colds, etc. It's just really too bad that people abuse the emergency room and clog it up for others. It's only severe (broken bones etc) or mortal reasons that bring me in the emergency unit. I just wish it was more readily staffed. Also the either incredibly good or incredibly bad reviews make me believe a lot of staff or people with vested interests are writing reviews. I've been here lots and have never had a five star experience. Just my two cents. It looks really laughable tbh. I've never seen a place with such skewed ratings. The only reason this place gets two stars is because the occasional friendly staff. Almost died because of an abses they refused to look at until I told them "call security or the doctor cause you're gonna need one or the other in 5 mins" after waiting hours. The pain became too much and I was within hours of dying of septic shock due to the placement of it. Let's just say after the emergency surgery you could fit at least four golf balls in the wound. When they actually saw it they immediately called an emergency surgeon and made a huge deal of it. Typical

R

20 patients waiting 5 plus hours to see a doctor. There is no dr to see. No one cares. We need to have private care. I would be happy to pay for it. I came with a severe pain shoulder and there is no even a glass of water for patients. No one cares if you are in pain. I have not been offered anything for my pain. Wonder if anyone would ever do anything about the wait times in the ER. Left after 5 hours of waiting and no dr. came in to see anyone.

Peter Potter

Be careful. When some of the nurses have bad days, they will make you pay for it by verbally insulting, destroying and assaulting you. Best of all? They can and usually do get away with it. The health care system is just like the police: not your friend. Look out for yourself. I have noticed the nurses at his hospital compared to others are generally very rude and difficult to even hold a conversation with. Over the years, I've had more encounters with nurses at this hospital that were negative than positive. The worst one that occurred should have been reported, but I was too unwell to proceed with that and they knew that.

Seema Armstrong

Rude , obnoxiuos, disrespectful staff 10 years ago when I came to emergency. Same rude, obnoxious, disrespectful staff today Aug 27th 2021. Had to bring my son to this place today. I see nothing has changed.

Bruno Petricca

Just spent 40 minutes waiting on the telephone to speak to an agent......I believe a situation like this only adds to anxiety being felt by patients. This must be rectified pls. If the system is broken it needs to be addressed and fixed.

Vox Shrew

They clearly pay for five star reviews. Check anyone who rates this place five stars. They coincidentally rate most places they visit five stars or one. Hmmm paid reviews. Well this one is honest. I am a patient here in the psyche ward. They keep you here way longer because the more patients under a doctors name the more money that doctor makes. Google how ontario doctors get paid, you'll see. Also most of the nurses here don't care about the patients. I have had two cool nurses and the rest have been brutal and ignored me pretended like I wasn't trying to get their attention. Some nurses would rather partake in nurse gossip. Pretending like you aren't trying to get their attention after making eye contact. The psyche department needs to change. The way they treat some of us mental patients here is brutal. And I am in for depression so this is coming from a sane mind. The way they treat us here is inhuman and borderline cruel. We need more nurses like nurse Brad who actually care about the patients and about doing their job. But sadly many of the nurses I've had aren't that way. No wonder the ratings are so low for grand river. They dont even clean properly and its covid season. I have plenty of evidence to support these claims. And I plan on coming out and bringing this to a mote public setting so that positive changes can be made for these patients. Because as of now this place has made me a depressed person feel even more dehumanized and depressed. This is a terrible place for the mentally ill to be treated.

Emergency waiting time was relative long but staff and doctor were very nice!

Lydia Parker

Boyfriend was admitted B/c he hadn’t slept in 3 nights. We waited 6 hours in the first waiting room, I asked the nurses three times when we would be seen. Around the 4.5 hour mark they told me they had a bed ready for him they were just waiting on a nurse to call him. Hour goes by, nothing. I go and ask again, the receptionist says she will let the nurses know. Finally half an hour later at 6 hours we are called back... to another waiting room. This is starting to feel like a sick joke; not giving a person with sleep deprivation a bed? Half an hour goes by and nothing. He starts feeling even worse and asks me to find a nurse to check his vitals. Finally things get moving, and 2-3 hours later in the waiting room we finally get to leave.

zohra atcha

I had my second baby here. Doctor was capable and the nurses were really helpful.

Saved By Grace

Wait was super long. Waited 6hrs. Nevertheless I would like to give a good rating to the doctor that attended to me and most especially Adam. Adam I appreciate the assistance in helping me sit, stand and use the washroom. God bless you much and thank you for doing you⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Michelle R

The worst experience I've ever had. The way they treat yiu us inhumane ...besides a few caring nurses all the others hated their jobs and yiu were dismissed as an annoyance. The doctors mostly just dismissed me because I wasn't an easy diagnosis. The only good thing about this hospital is their neurologist. He was amazing

Bob Smith

The kindness and generosity of the staff in the hospital is amazing. From a Tim Hortons employee paying for my coffee out of his own pocket when I had tears in my eyes, to the entire hospital staff... good people work here.

Harley wonder

I had my frist child there 4 months ago it was very dirty , the staff where rude , didn't care about my child or I at all . They had a to break my water the doctor was very rude and rough on me ! . The one nurse I had was amazing but the other one was never in the room with me even tho I was 6 or 7 cm along ( in the room alone with my friend ) . Sent my newborn baby and my self home the next day even tho they gave me alot of drugs to have him because he was stuck also he was a code pink ( wasn't breathing and was having a hard time with it ) just seemed like they don't care about they're jobs at all

Ted

It's terrible my daughter almost died once she a deadly abses and she said the pain was worse than having a child Plus the staff is terrible.

Dení Sukhonina

The technician lied to me that my MRI can be done only overnight when I asked her to schedule it for daylight. It is unsafe to be outside at 2-3 am, there are Amber alerts going on frequently, and I have no car. Clearly, they don't care about people. Inhumane.

Cindy Boag

I broke my ankle and came in by ambulance. Every nurse, doctor and staff member I dealt with were nothing but amazing. They were kind, empathetic and very knowledgeable. They were quick to get me in and out, but I didn't feel rushed. I would highly recommend this hospital.

Shirley Lewis

Never come to grand river hospital if it's an emergency we are still waiting to be seen by a Dr. After 4 hrs no pain medication

Ade O

I would have given zero star if it was available. I got to the emergency with acute pains. I was given a room with a bed after waiting 20minutes. I lay tossing over constantly as I was in great unbearable pain. No one came to attend to me. After six hours a nurse practitioner came over( The doctor did not even see me) and said the urine test shows that there's nothing wrong with me, by that time the pain did subside cos it's been nine hours of non stop pain in total that day. I couldn't sleep during these hours cos of the pain. The nurse told me in clear terms that I shouldn't have come to the hospital and that I should not come there next time, though I explained to her it was midnight and no clinic was opened. She then said I should leave immediately. All this she said in a direct arrogant/rude manner. I couldn't go to work cos of the long hours I wasted there, to make it even worse I was rudely and harshly spoken to. The nurse's words hunted me throughout that day.

Not even deserving of a 1 star The "doctor" that was working In the ICU on March 15th 2020 day shift is a disgusting human being, lacks tact and professionalism when speaking to patients who are critically ill also their family members. The behavior was so disgusting that the anesthesiologist waiting outside the the opened curtain apologized on his behalf stating that she was also "taken back by his behaviour"

Dave Seeback

Terrible Hospital. My brother who had 2 major brain surgeries and was there for a week got no help. No medication on time. IV put in wrong. And then sending him to Toronto for an appointment they setup only to get there and no appointment. This is gross negligence. Stay away .

I have never posted on Google Reviews in my life but felt compelled to given that I had the worst ever experience at the GRH and was verbally insulted and physically hurt by one of the nurses who I did not get chance to see her face but i remembered her angry voice. That early afternoon, my family doctor suspected that I had appendicitis and called a cab to send me to the GRH ER. I waited there quietly and slowly I felt short of breath, and my two hands were very numb, and so I told the volunteer I could not breath. After 20 minutes, when a nurse came I suddenly lost control and had a partial seizure. I could not control or feel my hands, feet, eyes, and mouth. A nurse scolded me loudly saying, "Don't think you act like that you will get attention! Sit up, don't make a fool of yourself!" Then someone punched my chest very hard and pulled my hair. I felt I got verbally insulted by that nurse and physically hurt by someone (could be the same nurse). I came here to get medical attention and not be insulted or hit. These words and physical acts were totally unnecessary. She should've simply instructed me on how to control my breathing properly to get back to normal but sadly she did not. Since I could not open my eyes during the incident I could not see her face but i remembered her angry voice. I tried very hard to breath normally and not panic after this ordeal. When I got back to normal I kept saying sorry to the first triage nurse and had to apologize like I was the one that did something very wrong. Why do I need to apologize for going into a seizure? After 10 hours, I had my appendectomy done and after another 15 hours I was rushed to get discharged with a fever of 39.1 degrees Celsius and was told to go to ER if I want to. The second day my family doctor found some kind of infection and prescribed me antibiotics. That was my most awful experience at GRH.

This isn't the first negative experience with Grand River Hospital so I thought it was about time I write a review. This time a parent of mine who is a senior went in with very high blood pressure during the evening of Oct 26 between 5 and 10:30. A male doctor there treating her (I say treating her generously because she came out worse than she went in) didn't care look at her records for the day of blood pressure levels, understand any medical history, hear that her doctor told her to get into Emergency right away or it seems listen to anything she had to say. Instead he said 'I don't know why your hear, go see your doctor'. Had the nerve to ask her what she wanted him to do, excuse me but isn't that your job? I've seen this first hand on a prior visit, not all, but some doctors at Grand River treat seniors with little to no respect. Mystery patients should really visit this place and staff that act like this should be immediately terminated.

Sandy Oz

Busy place, but I have received good service at Grand River. Takes time to process all the volume of patients who go there. Sickest 1st, as it should be. Minor health problems should go to family dr 1st to reduce hospital visits when not really needed

ashley guild

So frustrating. We spent over an hour waiting for a triage nurse just to see what we needed. there was one woman running around, while two other nurses stood by the water machine talking. We had to go back the next day for another IV treatment, after waiting a long time, we finally spoke with the doctor. Doctor ordered another IV and told the nurse to give us the treatment. The nurse placed the bags, and my boyfriend already had the needle taped in his arm from the previous night. Literally ALL the nurse had to do was take 30 seconds and twist it on. The nurses stood together talking about their week, families and so on. I was literally sitting 4 steps away. They could've talked at the same time as taking the 30 seconds to twist in the IV and it took 25 minutes for them to do this. 25 minutes of us sitting right in front of them-- not even in a room. Absolutely terrible service

Chase Fox

Website said 1hour 45mins wait time. Been 4 hours and still waiting. What a joke. Everytime i come here same thing.

William Wallace

The staff at GRH were incredible, and I had no bad experience from emergency, to admitting to being discharged. They do a great job in a tough economy.

Zeyad Al-Ani

They made us wait for 8 hours and then we left without seeing the doctor. They told me that only one doctor, working. I saw the stuf fouling around , there is no any emergency. I believe they have to be responsible.

Beware if you are international (They are their to steal your hard earned money) My friend got an intense Nose Bleed from work he was forced to visit hospital even he didn't had insurance, Doctor used nasal pack to stop bleeding, and handed the bill of 540 dollars and didn't answered any question clearly and told to him to come and visit next day, Next day there was a different doctor at that day he removed the nasal pack it was bleeding so he handed the bill of 540 dollars again and didn't answered any questions and told him to come back after two days. this time my friend had to visit a hospital next day due to severe pain that he had whole night due to the increase pressure in the nasal pack, after waiting 7 hours in que he was given prescription of pain killers which costs around 27 dollars and handed the bill of 540 dollars again and told him to visit again tomorrow. again he visited hospital after waiting 7 hours in the que just to get removed nasal pack which cost him 540 dollars again. Summary- he visited hospital 4 times after waiting on average 7 hours per day that he visited just to pay 540 dollars each visit which became total of 2160 dollars and didn't even got a satisfactory service. when my friend asked a doctor why he wasn't given pain prescription in an earlier visit, one lady doctor even used racist remarks of implying that if he cant afford he shouldn't get a service that is paid by Canadian tax payers. he was humiliated and wasn't given proper service and Hospital tried to maximize number of visits just to increase the profits.

My brother-in-law has been here for a week now. He came by ambulance a very sick man. The staff and on every level of service has just been exceptional. We are very thankful to everyone in the hospital and all the businesses connected with this area for being so thoughtful. The comfort Inn on Weber Street is a excellent place to stay, which is very close to all amentites and give you a special rate if you need it.Thank You to all the Doctors and Nurses here.

Wagtala Ashfin

Awful hospital, short of staff. My wife had appendicitis, she had to wait 5 hours to be seen by a nurse practitioner and to get pain medication.then 15 hours waiting to have her appendix cut out.... it is totally un human treatment. .... I wish that non of my family go there again!!!!

William B

Completely unprofessional hospital, considering legal action against this hospital and several staff. Go to another hospital if you can. This one isnt competent of looking after a house cat ????

Kyle Kozai

My experience at this hospital was not the best. Arrived to the emergency at 10pm and if you haven't been to the ER at this hospital might be a little confusing at first. (Especially if you are sick). I waited from 10pm- 4am in the morning and was unable to see a doctor. People who got to the ER before me had still not seen a doctor at 4am. DO NOT follow the wait time that they put out because at 10 it said I would see a doctor in 3 hours but was there till 4am without seeing a doctor. Nurse's were really nice with the exception of one but did not even see a doctor walk past at any moment in the night. Just a little tip as well all the food places close at 9 and the one vending machine in the ER is poorly stocked so if you are coming with someone I would suggest bringing snacks. and ENOUGH money for parking (isn't cheap). At 4am was still not able to get an accurate wait time or even a ball park of an hour or two. Call an ambulance if it serious because you might not see a doctor. Or just go to a different hospital. They just spent a lot of money on there parking not sure if that was the best investment.

Mujib A

Very mismanaged medical institution. 8 hours waiting in emergency and we still cant get a doctor yet. Why? Why cant they add more doctors or find ways to see patients faster.

Jasvir Bhatti

Had horrible headaches and I couldn't eat or drink anything for a week. Came to the 4 times on different days in the week because it was getting worse. Finally after the 4th visit a MRI was done but since it was Friday I didn't hear back until Monday. Monday i got MANY phone calls from GRH advising me to go to emerge ASAP. I come to find out I have a massive blood clot in my head. The protocol and procedure of handling patients needs serious reconsideration. This event happened in Aug 2018. Most recent even during the pandemic, from Oct 2020-Nov 2021, for 1 year I kept coming back to the hospital with "chronic pneumonia." Finally I saw a respirologist after months of pleading with the emerge doctor... Only to find out I have Tuberculosis. So on-top of COVID-19, there could have been an outbreak of TB in KW if I wasn't following Covid-19 protocols diligently. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I PRAY THIS HOSPITAL CHANGES. You have to be your own advocate for your health because no emerge doctor or nurse at GRH will listen.

Marianne Miller

Dirtiest health facility I've ever had the misfortune of experiencing. Nosocomial infections must be rampant.

Samantha Welstein

The hospital location is great. Staff is wonderful. Thanks for taking care of my dad. Many hospital should learn from this hospital. Taking care of people when they are the most vulnerable is a privilege only few get and needs to be handed well. The hospital does great job. However hate the fact new train lines on King street make parking and entering the hospital difficult. An unreasonable experience.

Brian Baskerville

ER staff were courteous, compassionate and efficient. They inspired confidence that I was in good hands.

lady R

I had my first baby in this hospital. Everything went perfect but one thing i was not satisfied was they did not give a bath to my baby for 3 days. As if they dont care. I asked them lots of time.i was in a private room for 2 days then they sent me a bill for 4 days. When i called them they said talk to another person n so on.

Price John

Great staff. Emerg can be busy at times especially on weekends

John

We had our baby delivered here and it went wonderfully. There were many complications due to a very bad case of placenta previa, but on each visit they helped us feel at ease and answered a TON of questions. Today we had to rush in and they handled our emergency extremely well. Baby and Mom are both safe. The nurses here have been great to us, doctors too.

Mathieu Bergeron

I now get the negative reviews. Absolutely garbage hospital. Waited 6 hrs just to see the doc who was really overworked and barely looked at me for 3 minutes, gave a nasal decongestant and did no tests. Been suffering from intense nasal and head pain since 2 months with vision issues and this is the treatment given. Nurses are completely unsymathetic and do not care. The hospital also seemed unhygenic with poor infrastructure.

Kaytee Lila

I have nothing but amazing things to say about GRH. I had my daughter here and everything went so smoothly. All the nurses who I cam into contact with during my stay were the sweetest, they know what they are doing and I was never left with any unanswered questions. Every single transition was easy, I didnt know childbirth could be such a lovely experience. Thanks to all the staff in labor and delivery! Nurse Laura is amazing!!!

John Broadfoot

Wife is having an atomic pregnancy and been waiting for 7hrs in waiting room and could die any minute now even asking and now gonna service them court papers if they dont do something about it soon

Christina Aucoin

This has to be one of the worst hospitals I have ever had to deal with. My dad suffered a stroke and has been at GRH for over a week. He shows no signs of being release any time soon or being transferred to a rehab facility. He cannot communicate properly and I'm unable to understand him over the phone. I have not stopped trying to see him over the past week but I keep hearing the same excuse from every person I speak with. Sounds like their reading from a manual. No people skills at all. I have asked them to set up a call with my dad so they can translate and I'm being told that they will try and set up a call but they are working with other families as well. Wow, I can't see him and have no idea when they can set up this call. How is this helping patients and their families? The doctor even said it would be beneficial for him to see me but cannot override the hospitals rules. I understand what the nurses and staff are going through but they have zero compassion for their patients and families. They even called security on me because they thought I was bringing "muscle" to the hospital when all I was doing was bringing them documentation. I have all 3 doses, don't travel and I stay home. Other countries and some provinces are not denying entry. Can't believe this is happening in Canada!

john doe

Went there three times in three days for my son, did not get proper results. On the third visit we left after waiting over four and a half hours, without being seen. My son crying in pain because of Gaul stones. Nice people but they could have done a better job.

Lisa Felipe Saint-Hilaire

My parents are elderly and have been to this hospital many times in the past few years, I have to say while there is the odd nice or competent staff member, the hospital is horrible. No one listens to what you have to say, we are suppose to know our own health the best but seems to fall on deaf ears. My mom has been up twice this week with an impacted bowel and they continue to send her home, the Dr advised her to come back as out patient for a CT scan if other more passive treatment modalities did not work, he left without communicating any instructions to the nurse, as per the nurse and gave us a requisite to call for a CT scan appointment, however when you call it is closed on the weekends and will take weeks possibly months to get in. So given the 2 times we have been there wanting to avoid something more serious here we sit waiting for her bowel to perforate or for her to go septic so they take us seriously......mom my is 86, takes good care of herself, eats well, monitors her body, but for some reason has been blamed for this happening.......customer relations you must be busy, dealt with you before and if you are still fighting this fight of poor patient care and services you are losing significantly, it is wonderful you ask for people to call, but honestly what is the point when nothing changes......maybe a good law suit would sort it out......

Lindsey Ng

My husband was just admitted the other day for a few days I just want to stay how thankful I am for all of the doctors and everyone who got my husband feeling better. Thanks so much for all you are doing

Jill Targett

My son was admitted for pain management. He is severe special needs and non verbal. He stayed on the 8th floor. The first night/morning he was not given any of his medications nor was he fed, he also had wet sheets and when we called for the nurse multiple times they never showed up. He was to have a constant nurse every night from 12 midnight to 8am When his workers from his group home came in there was no constant/nurse to be seen, he was never fed breakfast by them. He was also in a semi private room when he requires a private room for safety reasons. The floor doctor was terrible would tell us one thing and send nurses in to tell us something else. All they cared about was freeing up his bed for the next person. I have never seen such a disorganized and untruthful doctor in my life. My son was treated as a second class citizen and I won’t stand for that. The 8th floor staff should be ashamed of yourselves for treating sick people as numbers and not as people.

Kalpi Savalia

Worst hospital ever. They lost my sister's holter test equipment which she had submitted after going through a test of 72 hrs. My sister had to go through the test again of 72 hrs. They sent in wrong reports of other patients to my sister's doctor instead of faxing my sister's reports Since more than 4 months they have been stressing my sister with tons of tests and reports and not helping at all to come to a conclusion. Its worst hospital ever, doctors, nurses are not at all helpful. I used to have huge respect for doctors, nurses profession but this hospital took my sister and me in endless turmoil of struggles. WHEN MY SISTER CALLS HOSTIPAL TO ASK IN FOR REPORTS AND OTHER FURTHER PROCEDURES THEY JUST HANG UP. WORST HOSPITAL EVER. THEY TAKE A PATIENT'S LIFE AS A JOKE

Tanner Webb

Fantastic hospital with fantastic staff for the most part, I have crohn's disease so I have spent some time here. Wait times are to be expected, even if your dealing with discomfort.

Erika Van Holst

2 surgeries, multiple ER visits and delivered 2 babies at GRH. While wait times may be long at times, and I have met a few bad apples, it doesn't affect my level headed opinion of this hospital. They are great!! I have always received the best care and wouldn't go to any other hospital within an hour drive. Thankful to live in Canada where healthcare is so accessible and have GRH so close.

Mitchell Cahill

My girlfriend had a bad seizure and so far it's been 3 and a half hours and we have our 3 month old son with us I will never return to this hospital again I watched them escort a 60 year old man off the property

Jaime Stuart

This is a great hospital. I am happy with the care I received. Everyone was excellent. I did not have to wait and the doctors and nurses were amazing. Thank you Grand River Hospital.

Nadir

Waiting time in emergency is a lot. Every time I have to wait for 4-6 hours for the doctor to diagnose me. A complete waste of time and tax payers money. I made a mistake by coming over here.

Norkle Hermensa

The worst hospital in the nation. Staffed by borderline dropouts. The mental health staff are monsters. I've lost all faith in Canadian mental health care. Defund Grand River and re-open Tim Horton's to 24 hours so at least I can go somewhere in the middle of the night and get treated with respect. Update: They actually responded with a "copy and paste" CYB message. I've been trying to Email patient relations for years without response. I've tried calling patient relations and leaving messages and NO callbacks. I'm absolutely insulted.

Stephanie A

I had severe squeezing pain in the middle of my chest I couldn't lift my left arm and my breathing slowed down I feel like I was having a heart attack I walked into the emergency room and was told too sit in the waiting area in severe pain I asked the representative in what order do they take in patients at this hospitol the woman said it doesn't matter how severe or what is wrong with you it is in the order that you came into the hospitol whoever came in first gets seen first i waited over an hour and was not even registered in by a nurse the person sitting next too me said she was waiting was for more than 2 hours and was still not registered by a nurse. There were only a total of 6 patients in the ER for those 2 hours. I just walked out and on my way home. If this turns worse I will call 911 for an ambulance and pray that they don't bring me back too this hospitol I left scared for my health and life I would not recommend going too this hospital wait at home until you can't bear the pain then call 911

Kaveen Kumarasinghe

Literally the worst hospital you could possibly go to, had to wait 4 hours just to get a registration wristband and they weren't able to get the birthday right the first time and so we ended up having to wait another hour. If you are dying just die it's not worth it

Shannon Beattie

Crazy long waits. Didn't get the sence that any of the staff really cared. They were short with you if you could even get their attention. Went there for a 20 min test. Left 8 hours later. Not an overall great experience there. I find a lot of the nurses lack bedside manners greatly. I try to avoid this Hospital as much as I can.

Bonnie E

I would strongly recommend expectant mothers drive somewhere else to deliver babies, my son was born 4 months ago and I am still having nightmares. We were sent to The NICU for an injury to my son during a c section I didn't want or consent to. The OB looked fresh out of school and did not have a professional demeanor at all. The nurses didn't keep their masks on, and would stand around the desk whining about how they don't get enough hours while there were lots of crying babies looking for attention. It wouldn't wish my experience aft this hospital on my worst enemy.

Jeff Battler

My experience with Grand River Hospital on my vist to the ER was top shelf. The staff and Drs should be commended for their outstanding performance. I have had in the past long wait times and tend to be grouped with the crazy people.(nothing like waiting beside someone losing their mind screaming for hours) Yesterday was the exception for all of the not so great appearances over the past year. I suffer from a fairly complicated disease. I do tend to just travel to Toronto General another outstanding group of people. Yesterday was thank you kitchener

F K

Awful Awful All staff including patient relations awful only CEO seems good, some nurses are good, a few doctor's But majority of staff are disappointment Patient relations are biggest disappointment No one cares

Jasmine Bolt

If you like waiting for hours screaming in pain for them to offer you Tylenol and send you home this is the place for you! Not to mention the horrible bedside manor from basically all nurses and doctors, I pressed my call button to ask where the doctor was as it had been 3 hours of me sitting in a room not being checking in on at all or told what was happening. Because I have tattoos I was essentially profiled as a drug seeker even though I just wanted a diagnosis and some antibiotics for an ulcer.

Dan Pronovost

Well, their emergency department almost killed me, sending me home with a burst appendix after an 8 hour wait throwing up pure bile every 20 minutes. If you are interested in accidental assisted suicide, go to Grand River emergency, they are sure to help you out. Go to St Mary's instead for better emergency care.

Greg Manor

I’ve been here and stayed for many hours in the emergency room to be let off minutes after seeing a doctor. People really need and struggle to understand that there is only so much they can do when it comes to waiting, there are a lot of other people who need health services and only so many doctors on hand. It’s not there fault you are waiting for long periods of time. You guys have always done an excellent job and I respect doctors and nurses very much, ignore the ridiculous comments here keep doing your best

Rouble Gupta

I simply wanted to relate an unusual GRH experience. My overall experience was not pleasant, but yes, GRH having experienced DR. Dr. Yu, in particular, is youthful and enthusiastic, has mastered his medical degree but still needs to brush up on his niceness and tolerance with patients, since he works in a delicate field. He didn't listen me completely, rolled his eyes, attitude and appeared to be in a hurry (I can understand there are many patients but if dr. is rush then why long waiting time period in emergency). Staff should treat patients nicely.

Sandy Andrews

Staff and doctors did not care about my mothers health . They brushed her off and she ended up getting admitted at st Mary’s for a week the same day

Dust fost

Had my surgery yesterday. Dr Steyn is very nice and the guy who put me to sleep was really cool. Nurses were very busy and weren’t around but but that’s not their fault. My insurance covered a semi private but I just got curtains. Not sure why. All else goood!!

Sarah Weber

I had come in with abdominal pain and the staff was amazing very helpful and clean

Samantha Lipani

Worst hospital around. My newborn was very ill and not a single nurse or dr came to look at him for over 5 hours. I wanted to go back to ER to notify them that I want to be seen or I will take my son elsewhere and ended up lost and at the main entrance where the guy at the front called the ER for me and said there is nobody even on the list for "priority" and not a lot of patients are even at the hospital right now.... so I got brought back to my room with my son where I again waited and waited for hours. So for one... my sick newborn is not considered "priority" to this hospital... and if this is how the hospital runs when there is not even a lot of emergencies, I wonder how terrible it is when there actually is.

Laura McDonald

Went in with a concussion and a building headache. Took 2 hours to be told I would be seen soon. About an hour later I was told that I was at the top of the list. After another hour, and after watching people who came in hours after me being called, I left. No accountability at GRH.

Xinyu Liu

Such an AWFUL experience. The attitude of the ambulance staff is so bad. My friend was almost died, lying on the floor and struggling. But the staff refused to carry her downstairs, and said "Do not play drama with me" "This is a drama", etc. While my friend was not able to get up from the bed, staffs repeatedly asked her to stand up and walk, she even said "Stand up otherwise your face will be on the ground" to my friend. They were so irresponsible and unprofessional.

Christopher Josevski

Much praise for all the GRH staff I came across with for the recent surgery I've had gotten. I was in for a day surgery that turned into an inpatient overnight stay due to complications from the spinal anesthesia. The kindness and respect I was treated with the entire time pulled on my heartstrings. All the nurses who took care of me in post-surgery till I was discharged most especially, bless them all for being compassionate.

C Xo

My experiences were not the most terrible but weren't amazing either. I found the staff at GRH to be very friendly and helpful, maybe I just went on a good day? Took about 9-10 hours start to finish. The doctor who handled my case was very informative. After trying to figure out my problem for months at my family doctor, within a few hours he was able to diagnose me with a very large ovarian cyst and a kidney infection and sent me on my way with a pain med and referral to gyne to have the massive thing removed. Here's the negative portions of my visit(s): 1. The pain med they chose did not help me at all, although I am not a fan of taking heavy painkillers I'm sure I would have been a good candidate for something a little stronger. 2. My second visit they were very unhelpful. Got me in super quick suspecting the ovary twisted, made me wait a long time for x-ray results to tell me the cyst was so big that they could not see the ovary or anything behind it. Sent me home with the same pain med I was on before and told me to wait the week until my gyne consult. Well, turns out the cyst was actually an abscess, and at the size of a basketball it could have bursted anytime. That would have resulted in something VERY serious, could have even costed me my life. Overall, my experience was good until the second visit. I felt they did not understand the urgency of the situation and tried to get me in and out as quick as possible

John Stevenson

I had a good experience while staying at this hospital as an inpatient. Nurses and the doctor were fantastic.

Arif Khanani

I didnt think it was possible for a hospital to score so low...but i can see why. It took only seven trips to the emerg before they could diagnose my elderly family members problem. Wow! Triage not very friendly as i have had to deal with them several times. My family member was suffering so much pain they had a tough time communicating the issue. So i tried explaining but the nurse wouldn't even acknowledge me and refused make eye contact with me. I honestly felt we were being discriminated against. ****please make sure if you know of an elderly person that requires medical attention and they have no choice but to come to GRH...they should have an advocate to speak up for them***. Go to Guelph or Cambridge hospitals if u can. This institute is a joke and an embarrassment to our community. Management and or admins need to give their a heads a shake and get it together. Their main concern is getting patients in and out and keeping their beds empty...thats the job of an emergency surgeon..such a pity Zero stars if i could give that

Can Atacan

I went here 2 years ago after I was hit in the head and displayed concussion symptoms. I arrived there around 8 pm and was finally seen by a doctor around 2 in the morning. Despite explaining the situation, the doctor assumed I was high on marijuana, told me I'd be better tomorrow. What a waste of time. Took me more than a week to recover.

Zenia Saini

Please avoid going to this hospital as no one really cares about your problem , all they do is make you wait for 8 plus hours on the chair. Nobody tells you anything untill you yourself give up waiting and come back home.

OTHMAN RMMO

Are you calling this a hospital, the nurses just chatting and one doctor for hundreds patients. My son temperature was 40.5 C•.I stay 5 hour waiting Mr doctor ……. Imagine this is happening in Canada……

This is IT

this hospital lies , the staff and managers lie and their staffing is incompetent. They try to cover for each other with lies. They give the worst treatment ever and ignorant . worst hosptial

Ilya Kobelevskiy

ER wait time is completely unacceptable. People in extreme pain wait for many hours, a lot of elderly people. This is very very sad...

M C

I wish there was a rating lower than one star I could give. Please, opt for a better option if you are in a situation where you need to take a loved one, or yourself, to the hospital due to a serious mental health issue. Grand River has the worst way of dealing with mental health issues than any other hospital I have seen, and is comfortable with sending a loved one in need of help home after a few hours. Most hospitals will admit your loved one and will have them stay in the hospital for around a week, which I must add, can benefit a struggling loved one a lot. I would recommend to bring your loved one or yourself elsewhere where they/you will receive the help you need. Never again, Grand River.

bkinahan100

I am sitting in the recovery room right now. From the moment I stepped inside the door, the care has been incredible. All of the staff have been amazing and they are so caring and out going. Im actually very blown away about the professionalism and the kind nature of all the people involved including Dr. Bayley. Not often you can say a visit to the hospital makes your day, but this one certainly did.

Sarah K

Staff is on a power trip yelled at me threatened me called me names. They refused to tell me what was happening and I was ridiculed for crying as I was so tired and exhausted. Forced me to sign unnecessary paper work. Worst hospital I've ever been to.

Paul Montague

Well this is interesting. Just when our family gave up on Grand River Hospital, it appears they are really putting effort in. My wife went in for a simple procedure today and I was amazed at the improvement of service. The 'stars of the show' were the volunteers. I'm not kidding. During our 2 - 3 hour visit, we came into contact with between 8 - 10 volunteers, each and every one of which was smiling, happy, helpful, genuine, and comfortable. What ever has happened, keep it up folks. Wow. And the procedure was on-time, and nurses great. What a turn-around. We're still in shock. My original review (from 2016) was 1 star. And I'll give them a 5 star today because that performance was exceptional... not fake customer service like you'd find at a restaurant, but an authentic type that only happy volunteers could exhibit. Our family experienced many many years of unpleasant trips to Grand River, and bad attitudes from the staff to forget, but this is one great step forward. Let's see if they can sustain this change.

Mike Gr

Would be great for them to disclose when going in at 8 p.m that you won't be seen until 7 am (even though the wait time says 1 hour) that way we could go to after hours urgent care or another hospital even in another city and still be back home instead of still just waiting. Before covid-19 the WiFi was a paid service which is unfortunate since so much time is spent waiting. It seems the radiologist is god and can change the referring doctors urgent scan requests to non-urgent so these scans happen 3+ weeks out then the follow up later so this whole process takes over a month. While I do understand this partially and am sure is some good reasons i should note clinics inside Kitchener and hospitals outside Kitchener book these same scans 1-14 days out. For me personally I had my referral - scan - results within 72 hours elsewhere. Doctors here especially like to imply ongoing issues are anxiety related. Reply to hospital: I cannot recall even one time waiting 10+ hours at a hospital ER (which i have experienced more than once at GRH) anywhere else in the province including in Toronto (free wifi) and an ER Ultrasound and ER MRI booked 6 hours later with free food and free wifi (Barrie). As another review mentions, I also feel the excessive waits are done partly intentionally and going forward barring unconsciousness I will make the drive outside of Kitchener where I know things will get done realistically.

Worst experience ever!! I felt very neglected and the doctors are extremely unprofessional. This was a very negative experience and would not recommend it for anyone.

My name is Albert, I have been admitted to this hospital since Thursday, today is Friday, and none of the doctors came, I'm lying here, I don't even know why I'm waiting for an MRI to be performed. I have a headache in the morning and no one will give me a painkiller it is 14:50, I Gave to call home to bring me my medicine. This here, is worst than the prison.

F!!! 5 hours from the time my family member checked in, until she finally got called back. A nurse came in to insert an IV. Jabbed it in, and poked and moved the needle in and out in three different places. On the third try, the doctor came in while the nurse was poking away. After over a minute, I had enough and told them they were torturing my family member. The doctor finally told the nurse to stop. We were given pain pills, and were released with pills a short time later. When we asked for clarification about taking the medicine with food, the nurses response was "probably should". Nothing definitive, no instructions, just something to equivalent to "I'm too lazy to ask, so I will make something up". Over 6 hours total. Next morning: In for an xray at 11, sent back to the ER triage to wait all over again to see a doctor. That was another 4 hour experience that was entirely too long. Patients coming in for a scheduled test should not have to go back and triage through the ER like a new patient. It's Practicality 101, but Grand River does not seem very interested in being practical. It was a pathetic experience. The one star is for the one nurse that went out of her way to get us back to see the doctor to avoid an additional 6 hours in the ER waiting room, as well as the acknowledgement that the nurses and physicians are deeply understaffed.

I would go to Grandriver hospital before I'd go to Cambridge hospital. I have always been greeted with a smile & the nurses r amazing at Grandriver.

Called the fracture clinic to confirm an appointment time as my wallet was lost and I didn't have access to my card. Reception who answered was abrupt and condescending with her response. She however did not disconnect the line completely and was overheard swearing to her colleague about why people call to confirm their appointments and how silly and annoying it is. I wonder how many patients could overhear these remarks. To think that these so called professionals are representing the surgeons in interactions with patients. Makes me wonder what else they openly joke about and whether the surgeons on staff condone this behaviour.

I would like to thank DR J GREEN AND NURSE TALIA. I waited for 4 hours in the ER room. But all the staff were professional and KIND.

Last night I was at Grand River in the emergency room. I was experiencing a miscarriage at 12 weeks of pregnancy. After being at the hospital for 9 hours and patiently waiting for tests I was told the doctor would see me with the results any minute. After another 20 minutes I asked a nurse again when the doctor would see me so I could get home to see my family. She informed me (a woman having a painful miscarriage) that the doctor was consulting with busy specialists (OB Gynecologists). Specialists who were very busy delivering babies. My miscarriage was of very little importance to their busy emergency staff. In 2017 I gave birth to my beautiful, healthy daughter at Grand River hospital and the nurses and doctors who took care of me were exceptional. I thanked them and will always be grateful for their kindness and compassion. I cannot say the same for the emergency staff at Grand River. The one star review is for the emergency department only. It's an unorganized disaster. Perhaps they are so busy they forget they are dealing with people who have feelings of pain and grief. I doubt they read this but hopefully others will. While I am a rational person and I agree that live births and babies should take priority maybe the ER staff is in need of some sensitivity training.

I've always had a poor experience at this hospital. I've been to many hospitals because of a medical condition and every other hospital I've been to far exceeded my expectations but GRH has always let me down. It's a shame because it's one of the main hospitals in the city. I wish they would start cracking down on this hospital to make it better.

Dont go to this hospital, they don't take you seriously at all. Had a near call faint and the worst migraine, dizziness with strong urge to throw up for hours, went to ER because I was trying to sleep it off with advil. Nope, getting woke up by pain and this was around 3AM. Went there, walk through the door with nurses giving you the grumpy "really?" Look when you explain to them; given a wrist paper saying my vitals are fine maybe a slight higher blood pressure but we don't treat that, nothing about how long we'd have to wait or any indication in room nor did she ask me how much pain I'm in. The whole process took less than 5 mins, the ER was near empty. Sat there for 2 hrs then decided to ask, she said yeah it'll probably take another 6 HOURS before I get seen by a doctor. Worrying I get my time wasted just to get an "yeah, you're fine" answer, I proceed to sign out to leave. She mention that's totally fine, just sign this paper and I won't get charge because of OHIP. I looked at her, she told me in rude attitude " you stayed, hospitals aren't free." So yeah. Do not go here, go to St.Mary instead!!! You get charged just by wasting your time, without any service or care, they don't care!!! I think about WHAT IF some people don't have health cards??? It's more free going to Tim Horton's in the hospital and staying like that probably than sitting in a waiting room for nothing???

Worst! I have been in different provinces in Canada and all have been the same. You have to wait for unkown time which is (in our case, at least 4 hours) and then leave without service or wait and wait and wait until they tell you to see your family doctor or they just check your fever and give some advil and send you home (in the latter case, after 6 hours waiting). All of my friends have had similar experiences. The most ridiculous thing is that they call it EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I believe it has its unique meaning in this country only. PS. If the rating system allowed me, I would give no star.

Avoid if you can. They slow things down almost on purpose (doctor browsing his laptop and slow in interactions with patients in a supposed emergency department.) Ended up leaving as the risk was more tolerable than waiting any longer than I already had, which was 6 hours. The entire time, it was the same few patients present.

Kw waterloo

worst hospital ever. Had appendicitis back in 2015, I had to wait for a doctor for 10 hours , they did not give me any medications at this time to alleviate my pain for the entire 10 hours. Finally , I was operated after 15 hours waiting. Will not go there again ! Hopefully

I've been a patient at Grand River hospital a number of times-many numbers of times. I've had only one out of all those of times that I would call positive. The nurses at that time were diligent and thoughtful. My previous stays were horrendous !! I was very ill (on deaths door) at that time. I found the nurses and staff were not only indifferent but neglectful to the extreme. To add to it my bed was never changed nor was it made., The room was kind of dusted once at the most (dust bunnies were running rampant). I would only recommend it if you want to you end it all. I asked them (paremetics) in previous and in my recent accident take me to St Marys. They make their excuses for not taking you to St. Marys. I was treated with no respect at Grand River.. I've heard the same complaints over and over. So that's my review - take it or leave it

Dana Dremo

I would like to say BIG Thanks for doctors who saved life of my daughter on last Friday night, also BIG Thanks for stuff at floor 6 north who take care of her after surgery for few days. My apriciation will never end. Thank You so much

I arrived 15 mins early for my appointment at 8AM and the volunteer at the main entrance asked me what I was here for and took me directly to the waiting room. Waiting room receptionists saw me be lead in by her and didn't question it or say anything. I waited over an hour there before I approached them and they said I needed to go to registration first. The only reason I'm giving a 2 star instead of 1 star is because of the 2 workers at patient registration that got me processed quickly after learning the situation. Currently still sitting in the waiting room 1.5 hours after my appointment.
