Broke my foot in January. When I arrived my foot was swollen and Black with bruising and despite this they sent me in to have my LEG xrayed. The tech grabbed and pulled my broken foot causing me intense pain. The bone was displaced. When the doctor finally arrived to see me he asked why they didnt xray the actual broken bone. I have nerve damage now and need orthopedic shoes and Im not sure that would have happened had my foot not been grabbed and assumed not broken. I had to argue with the tech only to have her disbelieve and see me again an hour later to do it right. This isnt Even the first terrible experience Ive had there, including being told a case of croup was Depression and having a doctor mix up dextromethorphan and dexamethasone(why should a patient have to correct the DOCTOR on what meds theyre giving them??). I would say someone is going to die at this hospital but people already have due to the Poor handling of cases and the utter incompetence of doctors. We all remember the Poor good samaritan. Everyone working there should be embarrassed.

If you have an emergency, don’t come here, you’ll probably die waiting, waited 3.5 hours, currently still waiting, probably going to have enough time to release a documentary on my survival here at this point

Long waiting time. It’s really unexpected

I had questions regarding my covid test results and I call the number of this hospital. The telephone operator was rude and impatient, he did not even let me finish my sentence and interrupted me. He said go ask your doctor, and then hung up my phone. How RUDE!!

Got my knee done by Dr. Adili. Really painful. TOLD AFTER THE SURGERY ALL FOLLOW UPS BY RESIDENTS.If I had known this then I would not have got the SURGERY.

Had two out of three kids here. Great experience. Did not have a good experience at Mac with my first child.

Mainly positive experience in terms of surgery and urology. ER/triage is a test of anyone's patience, especially when you're in pain or scared about any sudden onset symptoms.

Carolyn Brown

EVERYONE WHO WORKS HERE IS VERY HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY. EVERYONE SHOULD THANK THESE PEOPLE FOR THEIR SERVICE BECAUSE WE WOULD BE DEAD WITHOUT THEM DURING COVID-19. I WISH EVERYONE WOULD REALIZE THAT IF WE STICK TOGETHER THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE

The nurses, doctors, and technicians, do a good job, but you don’t always find out what caused your symptoms - but they do treat your symptoms, and stabilize you, before you leave. The other thing you should be careful of, is don’t take anything valuable, or want to keep, when you go into emergency care. The porter made me take my purse, to get a catscan, because he said, it wouldn’t be there, if I left it .

Clinic Manager

I've been to St. Joe's many times over the years (good and bad experience with good and bad staff members - no better and no worse than anyplace else in the world). YES - the ER is busy, especially for those of you who should have gone to a walk-in clinic or the Urgent Care Centre - ERs have to triage their patients in order of medical urgency, so if you're sitting around for 11 hours in the ER without a lot of care happening for you, then take the hint and go to the appropriate place for your non-life threatening cuts, ear infections, flu viruses, and broken fingers/toes.

My parent is in there and we have found the whole duration of stay, nursing not following protocol of contamination issues such as bedpans laying on floor then putting under patient that has bedsores then leaving that patient with open bed sores in feces up to a hour, taking bedpan but now exposing open bed sores to sheets that have had a bedpan from the floor. Medical staff not checking catheter and even when brought to nurse's attention it has been partially pulled out took 12 hours before something done.Patient has called nurse stating can't breath and has waited up to 1 hour 20 mins for someone to come. I used to say St. Joseph was a great hospital I am embarrassed and ashamed to recommend St. Joseph

Too many nurses doing nothing but talk and not enough doctors for patients. I Waited 4 hours in the waiting room with my mother after being brought in by ambulance for severe abdominal pain. Hire more qualified staff please.

Sharon Dos Santos

I went to the emergency nurses were awesome thank you for your service to humanity

Very friendly and efficient staff, Doctors are great! Very thorough and patient with clients.Wait time reasonable, clean location. Good quality treatment, very blessed to be treated there. Thanks to St. Joseph!

I honestly do not know why the other reviews on the NICU are so bad. I have been at this hospital since November 23rd, I was transferred from Guelph General because I was 32 weeks pregnant and threatened with preterm labor and they could not take me, so I got transferred to St.Joes. The nurses and doctors here have been EXCEPTIONALLY thorough in everything they do and made me feel so comfortable. I had been admitted and they were able to stop my labor, 3-4 days past and my body decided on its own that it was time for my baby boy to come into the world. He currently has been in the NICU for four days and has gotten such amazing care ever since! My birth went amazingly well, I couldn’t have done it without my nurse Christina (and my husband of course). The NICU staff have been so understanding and welcoming, which is great for a first time mom like myself. I would have another baby at this hospital in a heart beat! They are one of the only hospitals that offer bunk rooms for parents of babies in the NICU, which is great considering I live in Guelph. I plan on staying here until my baby is discharged and everyday see amazing staff doing great at their jobs! Also like to acknowledge Stephanie in the maternity ward, she has the biggest heart and checks in on me even though I’m not a patient anymore! Wonderful people.

They almost always misdiagnose or miss an illness completely. You could go in having a heart attack and they'd tell you it was a flu and send you home.

Waiting in Emergency Room will take about 5-9 hours.. 50¢ phones in hospital doesn't work, because of jammed coins Also PocketHealth doesnt work as supposed to, you will have to pay 5$ for every new X-ray or CT scan, thats not fair and waste of money

Arlindo Victoria

My problem is with the emergency room, very unprofessional staff outside my brothers room at 7 am talking very loudly about a past trip to Mexico, really the worst emergency services I have ever seen my brother had very low hemoglobin average person has about 100 - 120 and he only had 36 so three blood transfusions and a bunch of tests later they were suprised to hear that I was angry that we did not hear anything from a doctor for over 15 hours, we also had to sit on hard plastic chairs for approx 36 hrs until they finally moved him upstairs into a room. But I must say as soon as the health team on the 4th floor took us in nothing but professionalism from them, they really took care of the family and really made sure that we all espicially my brother were very comfortable and relaxed.

I wonder, in case of a real epidemic breakdown in canada. Are we capable of take care of it properly?. Because, here i am . 4 hours since check in and 6 people waiting before me. So probably 1 person per hour. 24 hs 24 persons. Amazing! First World, definetly.

Cristina Harkness

The service for the most part was adequate. They are currently taking very good care of my mother. She is in the ICU and is awaiting surgery. Therein lies the issue. She is awaiting surgery and the surgeons are late. Again. I was told this surgery was "urgent, " yet we have been waiting for them to do this surgery for over 24 hours. That's right. A whole day late. On top of that, her machine has currently been beeping for about 45 minutes and nurses have been walking passed and didn't even think to check up on her. I'm annoyed at some of their priorities, but for the most part, I trust the doctors and nurses will take care of her for the remainder of her stay.

Your ER, is ridiculous. Nurses taking 25+ mins to triage 1 people. Go elsewhere, seriously.

Shame on the Ministry of Health and long term care have not even changed the Staff of this hospital. This hospital need a lot of attention i will be reaching out to the Ministry of Health and long term care definetly about the care System in this hospital. There has to be alot of changes. I will be speaking with patient realtion office about my recent visit on March 3 2021 at 7 pm. Also the office of the CEO needs to know whats happening inside the Emeregncy Department immediately. I took my sister there, and she had to stay there in the icu because she had septic shock. Terrible experience. They took her to step down room early "because more sick patients need to use the small icu place" and in the step down the room would be extremely cold. At night she had an emergency but oops, there are no doctors available in the whole freaking hospital. She had to be transferred to general hospital, which she should have been transferred long time ago, thank God, what a better hospital than this one is.

Fromwhere Istand

Awesome staff and doctors. My and my families lives have been saved multiple times over the years.

Turtlez the Turtle

Doctors at the plastics department did not appear very experienced and could not identify the fracture on my x-ray (despite it been shown clearly to me at the ER) and I went home with a soaking wet cast. The ER was a lot better, at least my cast was dry and it was surprisingly quick.

Kuro Gonzalez

It’s the worst hospital i ever been in my life !!! Im from USA and i went to the ER for major pain cause i have kidney stones .... The staff and Nurses are horrible....

SargentZack

Can't wait to get out of here with my family and NEVER come back!!! I won't go into detail yet but I'll leave a very detailed review later. MOTHERS DO NOT DELIVER HERE!!! I'd drive to another city before I ever come to stjoes again...

baliebox 4916

when my mom went there to get her back checked, she was sleepwalking when they found out that she had a gullbladder infection i was calling everywhere for someone to hang out with me and watch me if my aunt didn't watch me that week they probally would have taken me to a group home which "shivers" may have been the same group home i was abused in when i was 12 and treated like a 3 year old the hospital is pretty cozy though, its not ugly like modern hospitals i also went here back in 2017 after i tried to attempt suicide but when the cops sent people here its a whole other story as the other doctors would lock you in a cell for you to be their guinea pig for 3 days feeding drugs and testing you while in a cell not good but not bad either

I spent some time reading a lot of negative reviews on here. Why? Well, I want to add my own experiences into the mix for one, secondly the majority of negative reviews are just the one-off awkward exchanges between two individuals, telephone connection issues and snow clearing issues. Some more legitimate negative reviews that I came across seem to just be sensitive people who felt like they were bullied or judged by the acting nurse/doctor. For their own poor choices. Listen, we as people do things, sometimes those things aren't very smart and land you in a hospital. At that point, the nurses, doctors the second you set foot in the hospital. You're on their turf. Their time. These people are risking their own lives working in a hospital just so they can save lives at the expense of their own well being and health. I'm a pretty tough person, but there are days where I absolutely can't stand the state of humanity and how much people whine and complain. So, if you do get someone from time to time who cops an attitude, give them the benefit of the doubt. They deal with a whole spectrum of people on a daily basis. It is, and it is not about you. (It's not just about you, don't be selfish) St Joes has helped my father recover from a severe stroke that could have killed him. They are currently helping my mom get rid of her bone and lung cancer and a few days ago they helped bring my baby boy into this world. So, I will take no short-cut with my review. I will address these stingy reviews as I have. My father loved the staff that helped him through his recovery. They were very friendly, interactive, attentive and know just when to inject some humor into a situation. Thank you St. Joe's ER and Heart and Stroke team. My mom has nothing but nice things to say on behalf of the Juarvinski Cancer Research teams. Through her chemotherapy and adjustment to different drugs etc. I have never seen her come home in despair from her treatments. She's always in a good spirits. Thank you for your hard work to everyone in cancer related fields. Lastly, thank you to all the staff at labour and delivery. The whole team is just a rolling bundle of professional fun. I didn't know what to expect really, the accommodations aren't really great unless your the baby or the mom haha but my comfort was the least of my concerns. Mommy was in delivery for 17 hours, and my baby boy wasn't going to make that any easier for her. The delivery team was on point, in to check on her every hour on the hour. Finally, they expertly made the request for a Caesarean to which mommy was all on board for haha. They had him out in no time and mommy stitched and cleaned up. I honestly can't express how: 1. Grateful I am for all of the staff at St. Joe's. 2. The level of professionalism and common courtesy exhibited by staff. Even staff who would see me wandering would ask if I was lost. Great people for the most part. 3. Their awesome and wholesome attitude in their day to day duties. God bless all of you! My only minus was some gate guard who took what "entrance" you should or should not be using too seriously for their position lol. Oh and a grumpy nurse who reluctantly filled my water bottle up, but like I said in my initial statement. These people do a lot. We all cop an attitude from time to time. These people deserve to vent on some minor level. Like the Gate Guardian and Water Nurse. That is all ????

Had my appendix removed here. Wonderful staff, incredibly helpful and positive. My sister in law had her baby new... Facilities may be older but she got ALL the care she needed... EXCEPT she didn't get the welcome package of diapers etc they give all new mommies so my we had to find a nurse to chase down some newborn necessities

I took my 89 year old mother there last night. She fractured her hand. We waited 5 hours and left. They took X-rays and know that it is fractured but we have to go back to see a dr. before referring her to the fracture clinic. I understand now why people complain.

Great care in emergency and the porters were friendly escorting down to Radiology. Nursing staff were efficient and helpful. The attending doctor was factual and had a good bedside manner.

Jenny C

Made me wait all day for nothing. Seriously no respect at all the doctor could not call at all and say hey this is what I have going on we are looking at x amount of hours or just go home we will talk when I am free

Seth Hansen

My poor review does not have anything to do with any hospital staff. It has to do specifically with parking. I have limited mobility and as such cannot walk far and am not steady on my feet. The parking lot that I parked in is off Charlton, and the snow was very poorly cleared and quite slippery, to make matters worse the doors were locked, which I was told weren't supposed to be locked until 9pm and it was only half past 8. I was forced to have to walk. For a hospital to have such poorly maintained parking facilities is completely unacceptable. I wish that I had taken a picture.

Went twice recently for my wife's pregnancy ultrasounds. Secretaries were pleasant, but the technicians were very poor on both occasions. Technician's beside-manners were very poor and their skills seemed to match. I was only given a momentary glimpse of our new child! The technician charges us for 2 prints, both of which were worse than any of the scans that she so briefly flashed on the screen. This is not our first baby, so I'm very aware of how basic this task this is and I **strongly** suggest that you look elsewhere for ultrasounds. It's your money, your child, and you deserve to be treated better.

I was attacked by a bat and told numerous times to get a rabies vaccine immediately by public health services, it took 2 visits here and 12 hours of waiting to get a shot that took 3 minutes. At that point the recommended same day treatment window had passed. The office clerk was rude and unprofessional when my family called to ask why a rabies vaccine, that is supposed to be administered immediately, was taking 5+ hours, and had the audacity to scream at my family and constantly hang up when they asked for her supervisor. No wonder people say they wouldn't even bring their dogs here.

Christinna LeBlanc

Doctors are so useless. Can't even understand basic medicine. Wondering if they got their degrees at Sears.

Grace Nequia

It’s horrible service. I had a miscarriage and bleeding a lot. They made me wait at the waiting room. My pants were soaked with blood and they didn’t offer a hospital gown or towel. I had to go back the next day for all the test. And then I went back again for a follow up check up. I just wasted my time because the doctor didn’t even do anything!

Mike Lastman

Was there not too long ago and I am a girl in my 20s and I had to have certain procedure done and then I could not walk after because of so much pain, I asks the nurses for help and they said "oh you will be fine just walk it off" so I rested a bit more and then they told me I had to leave. I asked for help walking to the door to be picked up and they said I should be fine and they are busy. Defiantly not impressed.

I was rushed here from St. Catharines. They took me in right away and did me a great service. Looked after my problem and did great follow up. My day nurse ( Diana) was great. She was friendly and helpful. My night nurse (Lisa) was also nice and kept my night interruptions to a minimal. I'm not a fan of hospitals but if anything else ever happens to me this is the place I want to be. I just got released and have nothing bad to say about the service I received here.

Aamir Shahzad

Best place for regular checkups but as difficult as others are in case of urgent care.

A family was admitted there. I was trying to reach my family who is about to have a surgery but the cellphone has a dead battery. They said that I have to wait for my family to charge the cellphone so I can talk to her.I asked for a phone in the room but they said that my family can't use the phone in the room unless its hooked to somewhere , in short you have to pay to use the phone in the room. My family went to OR without me talking to my family.

Lisa Millar

The best care anywhere! Faster processing and treatment in Emerg and best bedside manner and care for longer term patients. The staff are fantastic.

Aloksingh Kshatriya

Doctors are irresponsible which results in problems for patients. But they can do it because they can get away with anything. No regulation and control on doctors.

robin fernandes

Horrible services at this hospital, the wait specially during emergency is unimaginable. I waited with my wife who's pregnant and she was suffering from cramps for over 5 hours. Is this emergency or a joke? The nurse said only 3 doctors were working? I mean only 3!!! This definitely shows lack of attention or carelessness. I never recommend anyone to go there at times of emergency.

This is the worse emergency care, some patients don’t even have their mask on properly and nobody says anything Very long wait Very outdated

Disney Debbie Burke

Disappoint with the food , certainly not nutritious enough to maintain strength and certainly not promoting healing. No fresh veg, no fresh fruit, you have the doctor telling you and nutritionist say no packaged food, that's all you get. Nobody notices if patients are not eating, or carrying orders through. And God help you if you have to go to their emergency room. And don't even get me started on parking. NO ONE LISTENS TO YOU OR CARES.

My mother has a pain in her chest and while waiting at emergency watched as 4 patients who arrived after her were called in to be attended to. Staff was confronted about this and they simply said my mother's file had been "lost". Without Any further diagnostic steps being taken other than questioning, they put my mother on morphine. They then took blood and urine samples. Before even leaving the hospital my mother was deathly pale, began violently vomiting, lost her mobility and her speech. I am so deeply saddened and disappointed with this experience The health care profession I can imagine is a very stressful one, but if people are going to be so inconsiderate as they were last night, these individuals should find another profession, not play with people's lives. How can you send someone home in worse condition than they arrived? How can you administer morphine so easily without even inspecting your patient? Very disappointing.

Alisha Mills

Was here yesterday with my boyfriend at the fracture clinic. Well in the patient room I had to take a call for my car insurance company because of an accident the day before. I had my backpack with me carrying mine and my boyfriend's belongings. The nurse was getting my boyfriend's information in the computer so I got up with my bag and went to the counter that has a cabinet above it.(as I don't want my bag on the floor) I took my call with my insurance company and they needed some information that was inside my backpack so I went into my bag and a few mins later the same nurse comes back into the room asking me if I went into the cabinet to take anything. I said no I never opened it and even offered to show her everything that is in my backpack. She said because no one is aloud in there. My boyfriend grabbed my bag and showed the same nurse another nurse what's inside and he told them they can check the other nurse wasn't worried about it and the nurse that said I went into the cabinet said no that's ok and the whole time we were there she had her eyes on us the whole time.

Very well coordination of the hospital while dealing with Covid19. Courteous service and staff very helpful during this difficult time.

I came here because I was having horrible anxiety and panic attacks and i was running out of places to seek help. I should have started here first! The onsite mental health psychiatrist is amazing and i was able to not only get some medical help but also was told of other services i could use if needed. The wait time was also good at only 1 1/2 hours. Highly recommended if your brain isn't braining quite right.

Christine Paquette

they starve you & if you get a phone for someone make sure they give it to the person you got it for! These people are extrememly weird!

Sarah Allam

Thank you for taking care of my partner at the emergency. My partner cut his finger because of a broken glass of water and we had to rush to the emergency room at 4:00 am. Thank you.

Do not give birth at this hospital they will destroy your babies naval purposely I have seen 9 out of 10 babies with the navels bulging out because who ever cut the empirical cord did it wrongly and cause the babies to get hernias and its usually babies with african American indecency never caucasian babies (SHAKE MY HEAD) THEY NEED TO START DRUG TESTING THE NURSES AND DOING PSYCH EVALUATIONS ON THEM AS WELL AS EMS AND POLICE OFFICERS REGULARLY AND YOU WILL SEE THE TRUTH.

Amanda Doucet

Because they did more for me then the general did

Sonia K

I've been here twice for follow ups with my surgeon and and once for MRI. I have had nothing but good experiences. The parking is simple and drop off areas are clearly marked for those who have trouble walking after surgery. The staff is very friendly and nice. I am a deathly afraid of needles and the MRI staff was so good with me!! (For the IV) I felt like I was taken good care of! My only issue is I think there are 3 or 4 St Joe's in Hamilton and it's VERY difficult trying to figure out which one you're supposed to go to without addresses. Charlton is probably the easiest one to find but the others were even more confusing because they are not referred to by the street name.

If you want your relatives to die, take them to St. Joseph. Most of the doctors were residents and inexperienced. They took my sister out of ICU prematurely and bought her back in three days. They misdiagnosed her three times with exotic diseases. Afterwards, they gave up and transferred her to Hamilton General Hospital and that saved her life. Granted, the ER team and some of the nurses were good but the ICU and other part of hospital were terrible.

Enaiyat Ghani Ovy

My review is dedicated to the Maternity Centre at this hospital. We have had a wonderful experience while delivering our baby. The nurses are awesome, especially, nurse Brandy, who handled the delivery time very professionally with a lot of care and attention. They are doing very challenging jobs every day. The nurses at the NICU are also nice and friendly. Justine, Amy, Amanda, and other nurses took great care of our baby. I would definitely recommend this place.

Erin Fast

I had very good care from the emergency room personnel, Dr's and nurses.

This is the worst hospital! New computer system is a total mess! Went in for surgery and took 3 hours for pain meds to be administered because of technical issues... hospital run cheaply like a prison - patient care is deplorable now....

Oscar Hernandez

Extremely long waiting time, and they won't let you eat anything while waiting. The doctors are friendly but there just aren't enough doctors!! Too many nurses doing nothing because they aren't allowed to do anything themselves because of hospital policy I guess? Some things can easily be improved if whoever was in charge cared.

The receptionist there suck just one in particular!!! They do not call if they change appointments on you and if they do call to set up appointments they give you one day and then in their computers they put in a different day and then talk to you like you're stupid when you call and say what's going on. Not happy at all.... (fontbonne building)

This places ER is legit a joke. I've been here for the past 4 hours and I'm still waiting. They just move us from one hallway to another and each time we gotta wait a few hours. The hospital is pretty much empty, so idk what takes so long. They are just talking constantly to each other. Don't come here if you have an emergency. You might aswell go to Toronto. You will probably finish sooner than here.

My child was born here (in the before times) and our experience was amazing! Throughout my wife's pregnancy, we had to come to the maternity ward more than once a month and all the staff and nurses were always friendly, kind and working hard. During delivery of our child, the experience was excellent, too... I would choose St. Joe's again, but we're not having another child!!!

Been into Emerg a few times. Once for a broken ankle. The x-ray tech shoved a board to keep my foot upright for the x-ray, so hard against my foot that I screamed. The other time was a few days after I'd had blood taken there. The woman who took my blood wasn't wearing gloves, she swabbed my arm with alcohol, then used her dirty fingers to press around for veins. Before I could ask for her to clean the area again, she had shoved the needle in. A few days later I was back with fever, pain, and a red line running from the needle spot to my armpit. The doctor told me I'd gotten a "Systemic infection" otherwise known as blood poisoning, from the needle, and gave me antibiotics right away. He asked me where I'd gotten the puncture from, and when I told him, he got very quiet. I bought my medical records about this from the hospital a couple of weeks ago, and the Triage nurse had drawn the red line on the wrong arm, and the doctor had written "cellulitis" (a bacterial skin infection that does NOT creates a red line from the inner elbow to the armpit, or cause fevers and muscle pain) as the cause of the infection. It was classic blood poisoning, he TOLD me I had blood poisoning, and then he writes cellulitis to cover the hospital's as*. By the way, after seeing the Triage nurse, I had to wait ELEVEN hours to see a doctor.

In short all hospitals in Canada are pretty nifty in term of being up to date and all, but honestly St.Joesphs takes the cake. It is so accessible a, easy to find parking. Also it is always clean and well staffed. Of course the Covid-19 effects made the wait lines a bit longer m, but it looks like we be made it passed the 3 Ed wave, so fingers crossed! I waited long time in room and hospital infested with bed bugs then I have to know to move another room with the dead I got out and I didn't find the doctor scene anyway thank goodness for that so bad sanitation issues hanging out with

First time at the emergency . Place was packed. Just like to thank all of the great nurses and doctors. Yes there was a long wait. But I'm thankful we have free health care. Even though the nurses were a tad stressed. They treated me great. Thanks for all the hard work and long hours you put in.

I am not sure how to attach a photo, but if I was able to, I would. I came into the emergency because telehealth recommended me to as I had a test in hospital earlier and have been experiencing vision loss. I was put in a room with a dirty towel and garbage on the floor and full of optical machines (machine storage room). No one came to see me for almost two hours. Very disorganized here.

My roommate was admitted to St. Joe's ER in early August for alcohol poisoning. All they did was to give her a lot of valium and then they just released her after 4 hours.

My mother is a senior with a complex medical history, so we have been in St.Joe's a few times lately. The care in the emergency department has been efficient, caring and kind. They have taken her in quickly and been attentive and effective. Thank you to all the nurses, doctors and staff at the hospital. We don't know where we'd be without you!

June

Completely agree with S Kay. The doctor that delivered our baby is great. After giving birth, the nurses who are suppose to take care the mom and the baby are extremely rude. I remember one of the nurses named Wendy who came into our room with two interns and showed them how to do blood test for our baby. Wendy stung her like she's just a mess of flesh soullessly on her foot four time one after another. Our baby kept crying and Wendy smacked her back consecutively and she nearly couldn't breath. To my surprise that none of the interns thought it's inhumane to anyone not to mention you were doing that to a newly born infant. If you (any staff in St. Joseph's) see our post here, please kindly do some investigation anonymously. Not for us, cause we are done with this hospital. We just do not wanna see more newborns to be treated like this.

Horrible service when my mother was there. She had a different doctor every week and we could never reach them. They diagnosed my mother with a lung condition and they never bothered telling us; only just found out from her Long Term Care home.

This nurses at the hospital rather sit and talk and laugh instead of doing their WORK!! They seem unorganized this is my first time coming here and I wouldnt come back

Leigh Jordan

So annoyed I googled the wait times for hospitals around me! This hospital was a 1.5 hour wait. I was sitting here for 4 hours Honestly ridiculous

It is all ly permits for your medical needs

Doctor A. Adili and team are fabulous. Care 24/7 even when I was home. My only complaint was my dirty hospital room, paint off the walls and lack of nurses. I was glad to go home next day after my operation. Too bad more money can’t be spent where it’s needed. I’m not a fan of the huge oil painting of the Jurvinskis and bronze statue.

Candice Luo

Good staff and good service!

Lydia Ryu

Waiting time is ridiculous. Doctors and nurses spending their time at the desk sharing personal stories. A doctor laughed at our request for perscriptions. Spoken to condescendingly by majority of the staff. Went to put on a cast because it got wet only for them to improperly put on a new cast. Did not squeeze excess water off of cast wraps, thus went home with a cast with SOAKING wrap and cotton. This is the worst hospital.

Aya A

The reception staff are extremely rude, unfriendly and unhelpful. If you ask them a simple question, they either don’t answer or they give you a one word answer because they’d rather converse with eachother than answer patients questions. The wait time is unbelievable. They tell you the wait time is 30 minutes, you’ll end up waiting for 5 hours. The hospital is chaos and everything’s unorganized.

If you can avoid this place in a mental/emotional crisis, do so. Only for really big emergencies. I went to St. Joe's emerg for the feelings of extreme anxiety because of a bad situation I'd been in for several months. The intake psychiatrist didn't believe that such an unusual situation could exist and admitted me with "delusions". Once I was in the 9th floor mental health ward, the situation outside the hospital started to get dealt with by the appropriate authorities, which was some kind of relief. My mother brought me documents and email printouts from the authorities about the situation. I tried to show them to the doctors, but they actually physically backed away and said they would not look at them. About the third time my mother came to visit, three doctors "interviewed" her by cornering her in a room and rapid-firing questions at her. They asked if the situation was real, and were not happy when she said it was. My elderly mother has terrible social anxiety, and when they released her, she says she ran to the parking lot and car as fast as her arthritic legs would carry her, and had a panic attack behind the steering wheel. Because of what the doctors had done to her, she would not return. Because she had verified that the situation was real, the doctors wrote in my health record, "Mother now shares the delusion." Because of the doctors' extreme pressure on me, after two weeks in the hospital I agreed to take some (extremely low dose) anti-psychotics. I stopped as soon as they kicked me out into a homeless situation after just less than a month, and what do you know? The situation was still real, and still being addressed by actual people who knew what they were doing. Years later, with the confirming documents from the investigating parties, I was able to go through the Privacy Office and get a correction on my health record. A long process but thank goodness it exists. "Delusions" is now removed from my health record, but since that misdiagnosis informed diagnoses made by doctors during a subsequent visit to St. Joes emerg years later, the illness I then had was ignored and they put me in the psych ward again – this time for hypochondria. Hypochondria? Who puts people in the psych ward for hypochondria? And even if that had been true, don't people with hypochondria get sick? Turns out it was an endocrine issue. Not hypochondria. Then, with "Delusions" and "somatic preoccupation" (hypochondria) on my health record because of St. Joe's narcissistic psychiatrists with a God complex (and maybe some kind of personality disorder), it was very hard for me to get future (very real) health conditions looked into. I was dismissed as delusional and a hypochondriac over and over, which lead me to investigate my health records and find the misdiagnoses. The correction process (long) was initially not enough to stop the misdiagnoses from preventing me from accessing healthcare, so I had to eventually lock my health records down through Clinical Connect. After 5 years of being dismissed by physicians who accessed my health records through Clinical Connect and saw "delusions" and "somatic preoccupation", my medical care is now being properly addressed. What a shame the pride and arrogance of the psychiatrists at St. Joes has caused so much additional work for other people. I left feeling worse than when I'd gone in. This is what I hear from other people who have also spent time in the St. Joes psych ward. People go in with an issue, and come out with that issue as well as suicidal. They'd rather live on the street than go back. So if you can find a way to get help elsewhere, please do so for the sake of your health. This place is a last resort only.

I am a patient of anxiety and depression. I was taken to the hospital in emergency two days ago.. They were good first before they shifted me to mental health care. Many of the students came from mac to question me stuff. They gave me a medication to help me sleep but i had overdozed. The nurse comes in wakes me up and tells me to vacant the bed for other patients and asks me to leave. I was not even in the condition of walking. They did not help me with proper treatment or transportation. I asked the nurse to call a cab for me. Instead she said she can not call a cab. After telling her I did not have my bus pass, she handed me over a bus ticket and i had to take a bus for home. I still have the side effects of the medication that needs to be taken care of. They did not give me any follow up appointment nor any medication. Worst experience ever . The staff was rude.

I went to the fontbonne department with my mom. The staff were amazing. They were very friendly, efficient and patient. They explained all the procedure very clear and helped us all the way through. Thank you for a great service.

I was taken to the Charlton site via ambulance after a head injury. I was diagnosed with subarachnoid hemorrhage, and was admitted to the clinical teaching unit (psychiatric). The students would come in my room at early hours of the morning (ie. 0600hrs) to practice physical assessments. One student assaulted me by cutting my arm and taping candy on it. Another time, a student placed a mock EKG stickers on my torso that was with attached to a toy, telling me that it was monitoring my heart rate. I was constantly told that I could be given Ativan from 1 to 4mg. When I asked to speak to the doctor, I was rudely told no, and that he would come to my room. I would hear other residents screaming at all times of the day and night. After two days, I decided to leave and a McMaster resident along with an registered nurse tried to prevent me. The registered nurse physically pushed me as I tried to leave. I called the police and they called two security guards. The McMaster resident tried to get me to sign a release form, but I refused to sign it. At no time did they treat my head injury. I ended up going to the emergency unit at the Hamilton General Hospital and was treated appropriately. The doctors and nursing support staff at St Joseph's Hospital are scary and I advise others to avoid this hospital at all costs.

John Joseph LoForte

I am treated with respect every time I walk into the Hospita

Got there for my shoulder at 2am. Was im still in so much pain i can't sleep. Waited 3 and a half hours to be seen for 20 minutes and all for them to do next to nothing. Oh my bad, they gave me an XRAY for my bones .. when its a muscle/nerve thing. Pretty much useless.

Heather Campbell

There’s lots of mental health services, but try navigating them with someone who has a substance use disorder. The emergency doors are revolving doors when it comes to addicts. As soon as Doctors hear the word ‘addict’ they lose all interest in helping the individual. They hand them a piece of paper with a list of mental health services and shove them out the door.

Asoka Munaweera

Dr Caddeddu is an amazing Dr and performed the POEM Surgery for me in November 2020 when I had severe Achalasia and was unable to eat or drink and retain anything with severe bouts of vomiting and unable to even sleep due to regurgitation. I am fine and I bless her and her awesome staff everyday since then. I went for the routine Endoscopy follow up this afternoon 10th November and as always everyone was fantastic but the receptionist is not very friendly and it spoils all the others awesome work as she is the first person a patient meets so she needs to be friendly to make us feel at ease. Other than her everyone else is absolutely amazing and I have no words to thank them. All I can do is pray ???? to God to protect and Bless them all ???? for their wonderful work in the most trying circumstances ????❤️ I am ever so grateful to Dr Ceddadu and her fantastic Team ????

This just doesn't make sense to me, somebody is in need and we have nurses who get paid over 40 bucks an hour to just sit around and do nothing.... Literally emergencies that need to be dealt with and they do nothing....... Instead of doing nothing why not have qualified nurses actually do their job and hire more doctors because it doesn't make sense to be having all these patients who need care, especially the urgent ones that just get ignored while nurses do nothing but sit around. Disgusting health system

It took me several months to finally write a review on my experience at st. joe's hamilton. I was a patient months ago, i went to the emergency directly by myself early morning (as my husband was in the states that time and i have nobody to accompany me). I was 28 weeks pregnant, and my bag of water broke. I wasn't in pain, but there was a pooling of water coming out from me which is an indication of a possible early delivery. As a first time mom, i was nervous and anxious, plus given the situation that i was alone that time. I was interviewed in the ER initially for triaging by a male nurse. I told the nurse the reason why i came to ER and he informed me that I should go to the labor room directly to be assessed by the proper staff. He gave me instructions to which way to the labor room, i don't remember which level it was. I was upset, anxious, but i tried to be calm. I was going to ask him if he could send me via wheelchair or at least send someone with me to accompany me on my to the LR, but i did not. I know i have the right to ask but i don't want to be demanding. I don't know their depertmen's policy, but my concern is that, as a nurse in the ER who received the patient first, it is his responsibility to be compassionate and to ensure the safety of the patient. As a 28 weeker patient with premature rupture of membranes, walking is prohibited or at least to be limited as to prevent further complications or delay the chance of having preterm delivery. I could have delivered my baby somewhere on my way.

John-Michael Quinn

We just had a baby delivered there on Thanksgiving and our experience was amazing. The nursing staff were exceptional, educational, patient, and caring. The foodwokers we're awesome, janitorial staff were awesome, the drink vending machine up by the baby area was a jerk, and parking obviously sucks - bring your printed ticket in to pay during covid.

Asha Kodee

Please don't go to this hospital, made me more sick of the staff and very dirty place .

Had a swollen lymph node. Went to the ER 8 in the morning and I only waited 30 min. I have Quebec medical card and just needed to complete some other paperwork.

Worst clinic you can ever visit . No customer service at all . They dont respedts appointments at all No matter what time is your appointment your waiting at least an hour . Workers ate Very rude with ppl . I wish i can give -10000 stars for my review and that would be generous

I've had to send a lot of time at St Joes recently for my mother who had a broken arm. It started at the emergency room and she had to move on to the fracture clinic and eventually on to surgery. I can't say thank you enough to the wonder staff including administration, nurses and doctors at St Joes. I understand how busy you are which of course leads to wait times however as a patient I understand that emergencies happen and sometimes some people need to be seen before others due to their conditions. The professionalism, the compassion and the treatment for my mother has been wonderful. The cuts to our healthcare system have been awful, however this hospital seems to be able to run an incredibly well run operation and I was beyond impressed. Thank you again for you wonderful treatment of my Mom, and know that what you do makes a huge difference in so many peoples lives.

St. Joseph's was the best experience I've ever had in a hospital. Thank you to Dr. Anvari and the wonderful nurses on the 6th floor. Everyone was so kind and caring the entire time I was in their care. They made sure everything was good before sending me home... this required extra days in the hospital. Thank you again for all your special care and kindness. Special thanks to Kendra.

The Emergency Doctor was not professional at all. Instead of paying attention to what I said was wrong with me he dismissed it and tried to make me, the patient, feel horrible for not having something with me that the HOSPITAL is capable of giving me. I’m pretty sure a doctor telling their patient that they could be dead in seconds and that it’s purely my fault is not professional at all. If he cared enough to hear me out and understand why I didn’t have said medication with me he wouldn’t of came for me like that. He ignored me when I said I was worried about my heart and instead only shipped me off to covid testing and released me. I strongly suggest choosing any other hospital in hamilton.

Patrick Howard

Horrible Place, worst hospital ever all they are after is donations even after they managed to give my father the most pathetic care ever if you have emotional problems you end up in the psych ward which is dirty and while the nurses are very sweet you end up with the most uncaring doctors you ever saw I pity anyone who has to endure this place I if I could put no stars it would be fabulous

I came from out of town to bring someone in who had mental health issues and tried to take their life. If the person hadn't needed help so badly, I would've turned around and walked right back out. The first "nurse" (dressed in plain clothes) was so condescending and rude that she should not be working with the public. She was snappy and abrupt, no time for peasants like us, and why did we not know procedure? She was pissed because I picked up a phone and disturbed her. Perhaps because it was my first and last time in your hospital and they didn't have instructions posted for a form 9. After 7 different nurses trying to figure things out (apparently they didn't know process either), we were moved around to five different rooms and at one point required the assistance of security. I will say that security is the only saving grace in that hospital if you're looking to be treated like a human being. They were kind even though they were dealing with a troubled person. All's well that ends well? Nope. They released a suicidal person back on the streets and basically said have a nice weekend, try not to kill yourself. Zero stars if I could. I'll never step foot in there again.

Nader Fahmy

Complete lack of mechanisms to accept feedback. Good luck trying to put a complaint or even point them in a certain direction. They shield all staff from top to bottom in the Ivory tower. So, essentially you hit your head in the wall. No transparency at all. There should be an email/website that people can voice their concerns through it and expect a meaningful reply/resolution within a reasonable amount of time. Their Radiology department, overall, have intricate techniques in place to discourage people/doctors from using their services. I am sure some good is happening in there somewhere. But, overall, so much needs to be done to enhance service delivery and customer service.

christopher penor

I have been going there for years have nothing but respect for all the workers there treated well every time and quick treatment didn't have to sit around and wait one of the better hospitals I've been to thank you for your service

Had a family member in emergency with FTL dementia. He was treated like a criminal and they kept him in solidarity confinement. They never kept his wife in the loop and would not give updates on his situation. He never ever had toilet paper, wash cloth or towel for 5 days. They tranfered him to W5th thankfully but never told his wife or family. We found out when we went to St.Joes to visit him.. This is how our system treats a frighten man with FTL dementia. The only reason he was brought there was because he was wandering on the road. Dr Janet Patterson runs emergency at St Joe's . It is very sad someone in with her power has treated my family with such low regard and disrespect during this crisis. Who comes into a room with three family members hugging and clinging together and say "oh we have some weepers here" this comes from Dr Patterson' s mouth...Seriously where is her empathy...This man was praying for help because he was so afraid and was being treated poorly...My family won't let this go and they shouldn't. They are taking their story to city hall and so they should...

Hi ,my name is Colette Pilotte,I never been more grateful to the wonderful team who saved my life, but from after coming back to them saving my life that's when reality really hit took 2 two 3 days .I arrived on March 18.2019.then I realized the staff were not what I expected at all. From most of the entire staff .I would personally not have them work for me in any of the places I was employed. As for the Doctors ,to Psychiatrist, the entire team members all together as well as the prist I wanted to visit me every day. They would also be welcomed in our home. For that reason only I would rate higher than a 5.Yours truly for your kind words words and making me feel my best until the time they said I was doing great to allow me to go home,To my wonderful family, including my best friend as well my dog Bailey.i call her Baily Bails.Hahaha.Thanks for everything you do ,and never stop your kind words and encouragement.Thaks from the bottom of my Heart.????????????????????????????

Terrible. 4 hours waiting and the staff did not let me eat anything because they had to check me first. They decided it was a good idea to eat on my face minutes afterwards. They kept on calling me George even though I told them my name is Jorge. I dont know if it was racism or mere lack of empathy. Terrible terrible attitude and the staff (medics and nurses alike) rather chat with each other about their hours, days of work and future trips than help the people around.

Milica Vasiljevic

If you want a surgeon to perform a tubal libation at this hospital, that surgeon needs "approval" from the head priest. If you need any type of surgery now you are forced to get the COVID-19 vaccine (SARS-CoV-2 has never been isolated by the way and I can prove it). Somehow religious exemptions do not apply at Saint Joseph's Hospital. What is this Catholic priest up to if you can't get a tubal libation done without his consent, yet you are forced to get another EXPERIMENTAL medical procedure (COVID-19 vaccine) to be able to receive life saving surgery? Wondering what incentives there are for the staff and this so called priest who are enforcing this? We already know the Ontario Teacher's Union holds stocks in Pfizer, Moderna and J&J, so the incentive is clear. Time to start digging within this hospital as well. Follow the money and you'll get your answer.

I am only giving the 3 stars to the doctors and nurses in the birthing unit, they were fantastic. Made my husband and I feel unbelievable comfortable, sat and talked with us, and even made jokes when we needed comic relief. It was when we got up to the mother and baby unit, that problems started to arise. The nurses in the NICU were also amazing - my problem was with the social worker. She was unbelievably pushy and rude, she made my partner and I feel like we were below her. Even though we come from good homes, good families, and good jobs. She threatened us into certain things when she didn’t like the answers she got. It wasn’t only us though she talked down to the couple we shared a room with, also heard her talking down to another patient in the hall. I understand that some of the interrogation is part of her job as I’ve studied in the field as well but she’s not doing it right at all... as if being a mom isn’t hard enough. Would I give birth there again? I want to say yes but will be skeptical because of how things run in the mother and baby unit.

I wish I do not have to tell about Dec 06 I flow from....... to help my friend in this, hospital surgery went well after the surgery, surgicalstep down unit floor forth there was a birthday party for a staff all night loud noise in side the unit wow nice to have party night, while working in ICU and one off the patient requested them to calm down staff never listen, and the patients very upset.i hope things get better in heath care system.

Hi Her

Went to the ER between 7-8 PM after a fall. I was concerned my wrist was fractured after it swelled up and I couldn't touch it without searing pain. I was seen in triage right away and they gave me ice, which was appreciated. When I was in the waiting room I started to feel nauseous and dizzy, and I tried getting someone's attention but they kept telling me "hold on" and I was ignored. Finally 3 hours later I got a triage nurses attention as she walked by. I told her that my head was hurting and I feel dizzy and nauseous. She came back with a bag for me. At 11:50PM I finally got an X RAY for my wrist after someone who came in 3 hours later than me got theirs first. I ask how long the wait is because I am in pain and can't take anything until I see a doctor. My question was ignored and I was instead patronized "Oh I know you're in pain, but we only have one doctor on staff though" Only 1 doctor on staff? For a downtown hospital? Is then intentional understaffing? No wonder it took me 6 hours of wait time to get a 5 minute x ray and a 2 min chat with the ER resident. For 3 hours it was just me and 3 others in the waiting room and nobody got moved anywhere. During those 3 hours the wait room filled up and it wasn't until then that staff are suddenly working to get through patients. I don't understand why this is a consistent issue at St. Joe's. I'm not saying nurses and Doctors aren't allowed breaks but to ignore the people in the wait room (who am I supposed to tell if my condition changes if everyone is ignoring me?). Nobody addressed the fact that I possibly had a concussion from my fall because the nurses ignored me and the one I told didn't add it to my file that I was dizzy and feeling pukey. This is not acceptable care. 2 stars ⭐⭐ for this visit. ..... A week later, I'm at the day surgery unit and it's the complete opposite experience! They take great care for the patients. Patient to nurse ratio is very sufficient and my surgeon did an awesome job and adhered to my request for pictures. I'm so happy my wrist got fixed ???????? Five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the day surgery unit! ... I give 4 stars because the ER sucks. But day surgery unit is awesome and the nursing staff are very attentive.

After filing a formal complaint with St. Joseph's Health Care Hamilton and receiving their very scripted response about how "your complaint is taken seriously", I'm sorry to say they most definitely did not. Minimal effort at best. The fact that they're short staffed isn't lost on me, they're not going to "rock any boats" right now as the Omicron is in full swing so, HEAD UP FOLKS - things aren't ALWAYS what they seem at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. Educate yourselves in Healthcare and see the difference that can make in your life!

I am a first time patient at the hospital for my ear surgery. I have been visiting this place several times. The hospital is well organized and clean. The staff are helpful in a friendly manner. Due to Covid 19 the hospital follows the safety guideline strictly that made me feel so safe when coming to the hospital. The day surgery clinic is well organized, clean, and comfortable while waiting for surgery. The medical team is amazing. They are working so hard but always caring and smiling to patients.

Mel Sone

This hospital is TERRIBLE. I was told and given the extension to call the Secretary. When did it become professional for staff to pick up the phone and hang up right after. I was told to call when I have arrived at the hospital but was given an excuse that it was the wrong number. I specifically wrote down the hospital number and extension that was given to me by my family doctor!

I went last night severe pain in my back radiating to tummy, l had been battling a uti but this felt different. Doctor did ct scan comes back says you can go home your fine. I came in by ambulance as the back spasms were taking me to my knees and could hardly walk, the doctor says, l seen you walk to bathroom your fine, l was hunched over losing my breath with every pain. Today its worse now afraid to go back, as it turns out its my sciatic nerve. I left in tears and was made to feel like l was making things up just a bad bad situation. I go by Brenda Squire in case st joes actually reads these.

Worst hospital to be. Always advocate for your love ones. Always know all the medications and treatment being done. Doctors and nurses rarely communicate with you unless you call them. In ICU, my dad was treated palliative the day they intubated him and we never knew. He hands was tied in bed and they never told us. One nurse was kind to tell us about it. We are mourning because we lost our dad at the same time we are still dealing with the trauma and stress we experienced with ICU staff. Please have compassion. AND Doctors if you know that aggressive treatment will kill your patient please have the courage to tell your patients and their love ones. PLEASE COMMUNICATE.

I have a stomach issue that occasionally requires me to make a trip to the ER to get fluids and medication. This has been happening for 6-7 years and I’ve been to countless hospitals in 4 provinces and 3 countries and my experience at St Joes health Emergency centre has been by far the worst. The staff was incredibly rude and seemed to be more interested in talking about their weekend plans rather than helping people. I asked for a blanket because I was shivering and the nurse said “I’ll see if I can find one” meanwhile she was standing next to a rack of them. I asked for water and they directed me to the bathroom sink and said “there’s probably cups somewhere in there”. They also referred to patients by their ailments rather than booth number or name. For example there was “headache lady”. The hospital it’s self is horribly set up, they have no rooms to put people in to so you’re left to just vomit next to someone else who is vomiting which just starts a vicious cycle. I felt the need to leave due to the level of care I was receiving, I would have rather been puking my guts out in a cab rather than deal with the condescending hospital staff. Unless I can be assured next time you will have better procedures in place I do not feel safe using the emergency room in my city.

Waited in a room full of people with covid symptoms, while I thinking I was having a pulmonary embolism actually was infected with bacterial pneumonia. No cleaning people, nurses are always on somekind of break. 6 hours had my vitals checked one time only! This hospital is a joke. No wonder people are dying of a virus. Useless healthcare.

I received a referral to connect mhap, they cancelled my appointments for 2 months, I never had a chance to ever see anyone because they kept cancelling my appointments the day before. When I told them I wasn't interested in rescheduling with them anymore, they started calling 4x a day. There is absolutely zero compassion in this city for mental illness.

Worst hospital to give birth to your baby at, well actually the nurses and doctor that delivered my baby were amazing, they were so kind and actually took care of me and were polite and friendly, this review is for after when you get moved up to the mother baby unit, the nurses I encountered while being in this hospital were so unbelievably rude I don’t understand how they even have a job where you have to interact with people on a daily basis, this was supposed to be the happiest time of my life being my first baby and all but it turned into the absolute worst time/experience I’ve ever had. The nurses were all extremely rude and stuck up, being a first time mother I had some questions about breastfeeding since I’ve never done it before and these “nurses” acted like it was the end of the world that they had to answer my questions and the way they spoke to me made me feel like I was stupid. These people made me feel like I shouldn’t be a mother, the social worker SARAH SIMPSON even made comments that I shouldn’t have had my baby that I should have had an abortion, I was completely stunned at this, I started to shut down and avoid the nurses and staff every chance I got because I was so tired of being put down and made to feel stupid. SARAH SIMPSON is supposed to be a social worker but she is faaaaaar from that, she doesn’t know how to be a social worker, she is the worst out of everyone I encountered here, she doesn’t know to to talk to mothers, she only knows how to belittle people and acts like she’s better than everyone else meanwhile she is not, the whole time all she did was judge me and tell me that I was doing everything wrong instead of talking to me like a normal human being she told me how I should be feeling and how I should be dealing with the situation, she is an evil human being. She is not there to help in any way, she is very very messed up, she should be fired. My baby is my entire world and they made this experience complete hell for me, they took away moments that were supposed to be special and I will never be able to get those moments back. I’ve heard a lot of “horror stories” about this hospital but I found it hard to believe that nurses and hospital staff that are supposed to be there to help you and celebrate this happy time in your life could be so cruel to new mothers, but I wish I would have believed it because it’s all true. Every horrible thing you hear about this joke of a hospital is true, while I was here I met another family that was being treated the exact same way, made to feel like we aren’t capable of being a mother. The nurses constantly judged me non stop, they also lied about things that they did, which ended up with me looking like the bad guy. I could go on about what these people did to me and how badly they treated me but it hurts to even relive it by typing it out, so I will stop here and just please please do not have your baby here!!! It will be the worst experience of your life and it will turn something that’s supposed to be the best time into the worst time. I’d rather drive 45 minutes away to Toronto then give birth here.. worst mistake of my life. This place doesn’t even deserve one star.

Doctors are out of stock.

A friend of mine recently gave birth, and the baby is in the NICU, not keeping any food down. They keep force feeding him, causing him to vomit and they won't take the time to explain why they are doing this. All they and the doctors say is "oh it because of his weight". Every time I see her she's in tears. When the nurses aren't force feeding babies all they do is sit around in groups and gossip about the new moms and their babies. Very unprofessional staff, would strongly recommend going elsewhere.

C section was great, recovery was great. The nurses in the mom and baby area were awful. laughted at how swollen my feet were, forgot to give me pain meds for the day after my c section. Had the c section at 10am, I wasn’t helped to the bathroom or shower until 130am . The nurses just seemed so mad to have to deal with me and the one other mom on the floor .

I was sent to the hospital by my family doctor. The closest location to me is St. Josephs on Charlton. i was experiencing a lot of pain in the appendix area. So, after failing the covid screening due to abdominal pain, my mother was forced to leave the hospital. I was told that if the doctor deemed it not to be a covid case, she would be aloud in. after seeing the first doctor and was informed that it is my appendix, my mom would be able to come return, but every nurse denied my request. Being in an immense amount of pain and alone in the hospital made me very anxious. considering i failed the covid screening, i never received a covid test, meanwhile everyone else in the ER got tested. after blood work and my IV was put in, i started feeling very faint and had to get up to inform the nurses and ended up collapsing, none of the nurses acknowledged this, another patient had to yell out saying i had fainted. i received absolutely NO care, they watched me laying on the ground and made no attempt to help me get up or grab me a glass of water for that matter. i was in the ER for a total of 9 hours and wasn't offered anything to drink, eat, a blanket or a bed to lay in being that my appendix could've bursted. throughout the day, the nurses were mainly just standing around and talking amongst each other and were very rude towards every patient. i understand that we are in a pandemic but, not every patient that enters the ER has covid and it is not fair to be stereotyped as a covid case and not even receive a test. it is very sad that since i speak english i cant have my mother whom i live in the same household with denied to sit with her 19 year old daughter who is very anxious and scared to be in that situation. i feel that the nurses in the emergency room are very inconsiderate and rude and have no passion to genuinely care for their patients. i am starting nursing school in September and when i begin my career, i am certain that i will never treat a patient like how myself and others were treated yesterday.

Took a friend into the emergency because of a chemical splashed in her eye at midnight. Took 5hours for a doctor to look at her & we left at 7am for a total 7hours. Im not sure if all hospitals are this slow! It was a very unpleasant experience.

A renowned hospital serving Hamilton and nearby areas. The delivery and neonatal unit needs more improvement, probably it's because of huge influx of patients.

There is a triage nurse named April here (brown hair & glasses) - Please do not accept care from her, as she can be deemed a culprit of medical negligence. A couple of days ago, I came to the ER because I had been violently vomiting for over 12 hours, could not retain any fluids, had blurred vision, was dizzy feeling like I was going to pass out, and had a ringing in my ears. I am on a new birth control medication and I had consumed 5 alcoholic drinks the night before; I was never advised by my doctor not to consume alcohol on the medication, but I was concerned that the alcohol and medication may have been having a reaction in my body because this reaction was very abnormal for me. I met with April in the ER; I explained to her what happened and what my concerns were regarding the interaction with the medication. I emphasized to April that I felt like I could pass out at any minute. April then asked me "Why would you consume 5 drinks if you knew it would interact badly with your birth control?" to which I replied that I wasn't sure, I didn't know the interaction would happen and it's something I'm unfamiliar with; All while reiterating to her that I really felt like I was going to pass out. April then asked me again "Well why would you do that?" I told her again that I didn't have a reason, and she proceeded to tell me how illogical I am and how not smart I am. I was very offended by this because emergency situations can happen to anyone, and I know that I am not an illogical person for seeking medical attention due to concern of a negative and possibly fatal interaction between alcohol and my medication. April then continued to discuss how illogical I was while I continued to tell her that I desperately needed medical attention - It got to the point where I felt as though I was being ridiculed and bullied for attending the ER for my issue. I then politely told her that I would leave because I felt as though she was too fixated on my lack of intelligence and rationale for my emergency, and that she would not provide me care unless I could provide a strong enough rationale as to why I consumed alcohol following my birth control pill. Upon leaving, I was not escorted out the building, despite having telling April at least 3 times that I was very dizzy & feeling like I was going to pass out. I sat on the side of the road waiting for a ride home; During this time, I continued to vomit and felt very dizzy along with my other symptoms as mentioned above. I felt as though my safety was in jeopardy. I consider this to be a very serious issue, as I feel as though a nurse should never made you feel so poorly about a mistake that you made that you feel the need to leave the ER when you know that receiving medical attention could be a matter of life or death. I would hate for someone else to feel the need to leave the ER because of how they are being treated by April & I really hope that no one else experiences the same medical negligence that I did.

I had my first baby here. The nursing care was disgusting on the postnatal unit. They did not help me with not even one thing I asked for, they made 3 med errors on me, and were about as helpful as a wet sock in the breastfeeding clinic. May as well have a baby at home...or alone in the woods.....

The are excellent at been rude, careless and unethical ST JOSEPHS in hamilton are probably one of the worse hospitals in all Ontario. The staff is always madly angry like if they hate their lifes and the people they cross with. I was abused, bully and mistreated several times, their security staff used brutal force over me and hit me in the balls when I refuse to take a unknown medication. Tbh it's kind of disappointing because there is nothing people can really do about it... never go To PES, trust me you will regret it because once you get inside that door, you become nothing, ypu have no rigths, you have less rigths than animals, they will make you sleep in dirty mattresses on the floor, they won't give you any food for hours and the nurses will treat you with disrespect and make you feel powerless.

To all those willing to sacrifice their own safety and well-being in this crisis we are eternally grateful. Thank-you for being there for us.????

Lack of care for the family of a patient going through surgery for cancer removal. He was cut off from everyone, left in recovery, we aren't allowed to speak to him. We have no information at all on how he's doing, nothing. We can't get a hold of his surgeon who has still yet to call for the post-op, multiple hours after the surgery was conpleted. So disgusted with the lack of empathy shown.

sahil vij

The people there are just money-minded. i'm a student at mohawk college and i went there due to a ear infection but on that day but later after a day when i asked for a doctors note they again examined me despite of knowing that i'm all okay i got billed for emergency examination charges i.e.$670. A big amount and that too for a doctor's note. I strongly oppose the recommendation to this hospital because they will charge you when you're all good.

My son was born at the main campus 5 years ago and the experience was phenomenal. People were kind and attentive. I've broken my hand, tore my calf and ran in with my boy who has having breathing related issues. Again, everyone was excellent. Finally, I'm thoroughly impressed with the mental health facility and am so glad we have an alternative to CAMH. St. Joseph's is another great reason to live in Hamilton.

Poor signage. You wander around for 20 minutes getting incorrect directions and walking into rooms with patients. They ask you about your breathing when you get to your appointment. High blood pressure too! More privacy at Walmart!

Was sent home in active labour 5cm dilated, when I came back a few hours later I couldnt walk was put to sleep for emergency C section within 10 mins of being there because baby had almost no heartbeat when I woke up they told me if I came any later he wouldn’t have made it, they sent me hone because they didn’t want to deal with me and then I almost lost my baby, the entire time I was there the nurses were extremely rude especially about me not breastfeeding.

This hospital doesn't deserve a rating...after my father in law was in the hospital for months, back and forth back and forth, being told he did NOT have cancer, he was sent home still sick... two days later my father in law looked terrible so we took him to Juravinski Hospital and within 8 hours they told us his belly was full of Cancer!!!! Not to long after he passed away... I know people make mistakes BUT NOT FOR 5 MONTHS!!! DAMN YOU ST.JOES...!!!! ????????????????????????????!!!!

I want to give a shout-out to all the awesome nurses on the 6th floor who helped with my care dec18-21 for My VSG. Especially Angela who moved with urgency and was super sweet to everyone. We need more nurses like her, this was my first ever surgery and I'm no longer worried about my upcoming revision. After I witnessed what they have to put up with as nurses I have a lot of respect for the hard work and patience I could never match. Be proud ladies.

I have had some really bad treatment at this hospital. There are some good nurses and doctors still.

The staff is missguide so much, they don't care about patients. They are very confused, For seniors this hospital is not ideal. Today was my mom appointment, I went to my right location 805. The receptionist send us different department on the ground floor. We reached here, I shoe my mom health card to receptionist. She said not here, my mom has appointment 805. My mom was so tired, we waste over twenty five minutes,. And there is no any help for seniors. I not recommend this hospital.

Was rushed to St. Joseph's. Have to say the EMTs were great. The emergency room area was overcrowded but they had managed to get me into a room not to long after. Then the wait for getting results was long but got right in for gallbladder surgery that next morning. The recovery room nurse Sandy, made me feel so comfortable. I then got transferred into ward 6 (surgical) care. Hands down to Nurses Katelyn and Nate. They were so patient and attentive. Made my recovery go great. Wish could hand pick them for the birth of my child in July.

It's a bad place.

this review is relevant to last year. got to ER at 5, was extremely symptomatic, once admitted after a triage, they took care of me. I got blood infusions and pain medication, got to see a specialist who tried to get me in OR same night, but was eventually scheduled for 7 am next morning. although I spent the night on a recliner, but I could clearly see how busy all the beds were and understood. I had my surgery, had supportive communication with the physician after, and was out by 5 pm next day feeling like I had escaped death.

Bonnie Pottery

Had my dad at emergency today and he was moved 5 times. Once in a chair then to a bed back to a chair or I should say a recliner with 4 other people in the room all waiting to see the doctor and when the doctor came in, you were not taken to a room to discuss what your problem was oh no the doctor spoke to you right there with everyone listening . The whole time I was there which was about 5 hours, I never once seen anyone come in and clean the washroom, floors or wipe down the bed or room after a patience was released, and the smell in the hospital is so bad and I don't remember the hospitals smelling that bad before. What happened to our hospitals this is very sad.

Miss Fab

Currently in this lockdown situation and my mom just went in for surgery and I CANT SEE HER! Awful but I know my mom is in great hands because she was well taken care of by nothing but the BEST Nurses and staff on the 4th Floor, Head & Neck during her previous surgery Pre-Covid and it was also her birthday. Around Pre-Covid time I was able to stay with my mom at St. Joseph's Hospital - Charlton and I witnessed first hand how great they were and truly cared for my mom. Some nurses started their night shift with a smile and left the next morning with a smile. It was never a dreary situation like in some hospitals I've been in. Dr. CHOI and his sec. Terry are ah-maaaazing!!! I have nothing but Gratitude to all the work they have done thus far. Please continue to do what you're doing. Happiness, Love and Positivity make all the difference in the world. Thank you.

Hi I went to urgent care in Stoney Creek .,was given blood work and X-rays. Excellent care. They send me to St. Joe's with the results of my tests .The triage care was good and fast, C.Scan and blood work was done. Waited for results .Dr. Was very nice and set up for me to go to The Firestone clinic.Iwas called very next day to set up appointment for the next day. I really think all of the steps taken were a miracle

Marissa Huckerby

I had to go to the fracture clinic for a wrist injury. I had waited months for this appointment and even arrived 15 minutes early to ensure I was checked in on time. After waiting for an hour I was finally called in, Where I then needed to wait an additional half hour. There didn't seem to be many people there so I'm unsure why the wait was so long. After waiting an hour and a half, the Doctor walked into the room and within 30 seconds looked at me and said "sorry I don't have a solution ill refer you elsewhere I do not have much experience with wrist issues" i would have much preferred if his booking team had told me this before i waited months for an appointment and wasted 2 hours for 30 seconds of his time and to end up being dismissed I do want to state that the nurses I had encountered were lovely and I wish this doctor cared even slightly. However, even when the nurses were speaking to him, he seemed uninterested. Very disappointing.

Worst experience ever with the Health care system.from triage nurses not listening when you tell them you have paper work to see the X-ray department and wasting time only to tell you "oh sorry theyre closed now" to the doctor who reschedules your appt for the next day and prescribes you pain meds but forgets to fill out the prescription correctly.thanks again for looking so unprofessional.dont you have standards? sad

St Joseph's is a bunch of crock doctors. Labour and delivery has been an absolute incredible experience for me. I went in with no birthing plan and found myself amazed at the staff and wonderful team work here. Unfortunetly my labour and delivery was not easy but all of the residents, doctors, nurses and obs were ready and willing to do what it took to deliver my baby and get me through it. I would like to say a huge thank you to every person involved on the delivery floor and mother and baby unit that were born March 22 2021/early morning March 23 2021. I could tell it was a very quiet night until myself and several other ladies went into labour that night. I could tell the staff was working extra hard and everyone from the desk to delivery rooms and recovery rooms were amazing. I would also like to thank my ob that I saw throughout my entire pregnancy month by month, then week by week leading up to my delivery. Amazing Dr. Donnery came to see me after incredible Dr. Chamberlain delivered my baby via c section and that warmed my heart so much. Also thank you to the doctor that spent hours trying to help me deliver and never giving up. Sadly I do not remember her name and I wish I could give each and every one involved credit. I was checked up on by doctors after delivery and it just goes to show how much everyone here cares. There were so many people involved in my delivery and rest and recovery process and I don't think it could have gone any better given my circumstances and my baby boy being a little stubborn at wanting to join us in the world. I am so blessed and in love with him and I wouldn't be able to say that without the staff here at St. Joe's. From the bottom of my heart, thank you everyone so much.

Most Doctors and nurses provide care, but very under staffed and more interested in end of life and donations rather than patient care. I would not recommend this as a hospital, more of a fund raiser location @ 50 Charlton Street,Hamilton. My husband had to be transfered to a more capable hospital after one month of this hospital travesty of attempts and errors to fix something they could not or maybe did not want to?. They are only interested in end of life donations. Money Money Money.

took my son there, due to possible overdose and suicidal and turned out to be broken displaced knuckles. waited in the waiting area for almost 5 mins no one around, they did not seem to be too concerned about the meds of mine he took, which panicked me , as we were sitting there getting assistance, the back room staff were discussing a teen who just overdosed and died as m y son was sitting there, and very loud, finally i told the nurse to tell them to please quiet down, dr came and was quite abrupt at first, upsetting my son more, but she did turn out to be nice , my son was quite agitated, they offered no ice for his hand, no pain meds after testing for the possible issues of taking my meds, they did X-ray his hand, and splint it, and told him he would be referred to a surgeon , then they called physciatric ward 3 times in 4 hours, no one came, my son had another meltdown, and was finally taken to the psychiatry ward, but after 3 hours and witnessing a very bad episode of another patient, he was ready and needed to leave, they allow them to leave no matter how much of what they say , or as a mother i know was not true, they let my son walk out, no evaluation, no meds, and no appointment for his hand.. I understand they are busy , but there is a lot of unnecessary chatting and laughing being done when patients are ill and in pain.

I had surgery for kidney stones yesterday. A HUGE thank you to Dr. Kevin Piercey and his entire team for the excellent care provided. I also want to thank the staff at the Day Surgical Unit, from the Registration Desk, to pre-op and post-op, the nurses were fantastic!! Made me feel very comfortable, less anxious and answered all of my questions. A special thank you to Faith (nurse in pre-op) who took care of me. I have absolutely no complaints, 5 Stars well deserved!

Although St.Joes is often overcrowded in the emergency (there are only two ERs in Hamilton), they generally do a great job diagnosing and treating patients who need assistance. With a severe shortage of family practitioners in Hamilton, our ERs are swamped after-hours, often a little untidy due to sheer volume, but I've always been treated with respect & compassion. Hopefully more people will start using the Urgent Care Centre in the West end to help alleviate ER overcrowding between 9am-9pm. Only true downside is the outrageous price of parking, especially if you have to stay overnight for testing ($25-30), and very little alternative parking nearby.

Mike Wheeler

The worst place ever DO NOT come here if it's a emergency 5 hours sitting on a steel wheelchair with no padding after brought in by ambulance . Not one person came to help or see me . Also the dirtest hospital I have ever seen

The public washrooms are absolutely filthy. This washroom is out of the way of the main doors....it smelt so bad & was a disgusting mess. There was NO WAY it had been cleaned that day. Ppl come out of the hospital with horrible infections...no wonder.

*Update* Had my second child here on Friday and my experience was even better than the first time! Our nurse in labour and delivery, Allie, was absolutely incredible and so kind. The Dr. Bala and Dr. Chamberlain were so wonderful and kind. The anesthesiologist was so nice and calming and did a wonderful job as did everyone in the birthing unit. I was nervous about my experience going in during COVID and only having one support person, but it truly felt like there was entire team of people supporting you and making the experience so easy. Thanks to all! I just had my baby here and had a wonderful experience. I had her in the middle of the night so there was a lot of staff changes, but every nurse and doctor that I encountered was so kind and comforting. I had a wonderful OBGYN, Dr. Loosley Millman, who I had hoped would be there to deliver my baby, but the doctor on call was equally great. The maternity ward nurses were amazing to me, especially Maria who took such good care of us and shared so much information with me in the first days as a mom. Hailey was also great and very helpful. My family and I cannot say enough great things about this hospital and I look forward to having our next here.

This healthcare system is a joke. Have fun waiting upto 10 hours in ER, might just end up dead due to wait time. Upkeep really needs work, especially in the psychiatric wards, it's awful, soiled adult diapers sitting in garbage bins & rooms that reek of urine. Psych docs will belittle & mock you. Felt even worse about myself while in the midst of their care. Concerns with medication side effects will be almost completely disregarded. Their mental health system is corrupt in so many ways, I’ve heard news of a patient in ER being turned away from admittance while in crisis and seeking help, only to be announced dead soon after.

Went to the hospital because of a mental health crisis, staff were wonderful. Wait was long at times but that is to be expected. I felt safe, heard and valued as a person. Nurses are very compassionate despite me going at a very busy time. if I was ever in this same situation I would choose this hospital again.

A young pony-tailed young man who was attending covid vaccination entrance this morning should be commended. As well as taking care of traffic, he answered so many questions during the hour I was waiting for my husband to get his shot. As well he hurried to get wheelchairs for people who needed and even wheeled some of them who were unaccompanied to their destination. I kept smiling because it was so nice to see. Thank uou young man. Great job.

I have been in maybe 20 hospitals I'm from NS but lived in ON AB and BC and I am in Ontario right now but leaving to move back to my beloved Thompson ,Oakanagan BC on the weekend .I got a pace maker put in at St Joes when I was about 36 had a battery replaced in BC but last month I had the battery replaced again but this time at St Joes where I first got it put in .I'm now 63 so it was 27 years since I was last at St Joes and it was the same as last time in the fact that I have to say I never meet better staff from admittance, right to the doctor ,the nurses the security even the girl that gave me my mask at the door when I first walked in were just amazing all smiling .I have a place in my heart for St Joes its my favorite hospital in Canada and maybe people sense that when I'm there but when I hear people mention it even in other countries or in other provinces which by the way both did happen I get a happy and proud feeling knowing I've been there and how good the experience was because lets be honest no one want s to go to the hospitals but I guess you could say I love St Joes and that will never change and although I will likely never be back just it being there gives me the chance to brag about it and compare other hospitals with it because in my books from all the hospitals I've been in the best you can ever hope for is to be near as good as St Joes .Who ever is at the helm at St Joes I would just like to tell you your doing an amazing job and Thank You

Absolute chias! My husband had surgery on both legs so totally disabled. Was discharged a day after on the Friday of a long weekend. We were told the Occupational Therapist will visit on Tuesday but after waiting all day, contacted the hospital just to be told they just sent the referral and have to wait till end of the week. How do you expect a person to move around on their own when both legs were operated on? The faulty wheelchair was delivered, Komodo chair for the toilet was the wrong size Absolutely incompetent. No communication between departments. What a waste of taxpayers money to fund such medical facility!!!

Had my first born with them . Amazing Drs and staff. The Drs, understanding and provide great advice. Nurses are really helpful, friendly. I appreciated what they did for me and my baby. I was in hospital 5 days because iI had heigh blood pressure and my baby was in NICU 10 days. They are great team and they did all their best. Thanks for everything

Went to emerg for existing problems and the nurses and doctors had me in and out and feeling better then I did going in. Thank you for your help

I got transferred from Mac to St joes .. my baby was put into the NICU nursery for her low sugar levels. It was around 3am and I randomly fell asleep in their breast pumping room in between my feed. The nurse didn’t know I was still there. And I heard very awful things that were very alarming she was saying to the babies. It was breaking my heart. I stayed by my daughter as much as I could because I noticed how rough they were with the babies. Some of nurses are a joke and need some lessons by professionals at McMaster!!!!

ER are so terrible… only few patient waiting. And it takes 3 hour to be checked…. And all nurse is just having coffee break… no exact time if they can check us… terrible place to go for emergency…
