Great nursing staff. Made my scopes that much easier

Karyn Sloot

On May 15 my husband fell and cracked his ribs. It seemed so much worse but he was lucky. The nurses and staff that day were amazing Our experience was excellence in care. It is a busy place and we have had challenges before, but that day, we are grateful. It's a hard thankless job on most days and I truly feel they try their best. Today was one of those days Thank you..

Laura Mason

it was an absolute nightmare in Labour and Delivery triage , the Pakistan doctor or whatever culture he is , was rude and wasn't gentle at all examining me and was extremely rough and even when i called him out on it he never apologized. so traumatizing never going back again ! :(

We had our baby daughter here. First child. Everything about our experience was fantastic! Our nurses were beyond amazing. The only issue we had was the epidural took 2-3 hours because the anesthesiologist was tied up. Nancy checked us in and took all our information down, her shift finished and Kayla had taken over. Kayla had helped us deliver our baby. She was supportive and so helpful throughout the delivery. The rooms were clean and spacious. After Kayla's shift finished, Heather was our nurse and again nothing but great things to say. So helpful and knowledgeable. Our lactation nurse Margaret was absolutely amazing and helped us to figure out breastfeeding. Dr. Nancy Dzaja delivered our baby girl and she did a great job! The whole birthing unit is amazing at Guelph General!! Thank you team!!!!!

Good doctors but long wait

Ivana Aleksic

Doctors and nurses are excellent, waiting time from triage nurses to doctor is frustrating. Whoever manage there and it is responsible for organization should take long long long vacation ( ----> to find another job). It's shame for this city to have only one place offering 24h health services while on every corner is some private clinic...you ( from government) taking a lot of money for health care ,we paying taxes, health insurance companies blackmail people all that and daily life cost us our health so at least is fair to have more clinics open 24h-doctors and nurses can earn good money ,those who need help in the middle of night will be fairly treated (they will be checked by doctor at least half hour after arriving- also you can save some life ) and animal will be also thankful because their owners have equal number of open clinics as they have.

My experience is only from the point of view of a visitor. I have a family member who has been admitted for the past few weeks. Staff has been so nice every time I visit. They are caring and passionate about their profession... Parking is a complete cash grab and basically extortion. In some cities the hospital is among other businesses or university and it makes sense to charge a bit more to weed out non hospital users, there is no other demand for parking around here accept for the hospital so they are seriously taking advantage of vulnerable people...

Unprofessional and uneducated doctors . Every pain and injuries has not only one way with Advil ad Tylenol . I had a severe pain and i waited for the doctors for almost 2 hr what even if somebody dies and the only word you will say sorry ... worst than one can thing

Rob Murray

The staff are always helpful and it is obvious that they care about every patient. I've been here too many times probably, #activelifestyle, and every time it is great!

Came in with my thumb sliced open The triage (took an hour) nurse didn’t clean it, and just handed me a bandage. Waiting to be called in took another 2 hours. Finally when the doc took a look, he gave me strip bandages and sent me home, even though the nurse said I needed a few stiches. 4 hours of waiting for a bandage. As soon as I left the exam room, I started bleeding through my bandages and had to reapply them myself when I got home. I should have just gone to shoppers and picked up some DIY first aid kit instead.

Jason Angela Vreman

Had both our children here. Terrific staff, wonderful and caring. Very accommodating. We're currently here with our 7 week old for an eye infection, great physicians. Could do with less nurses complaining about their shift hours in the hallway and at the head desk.

I was in the ED a few weeks ago and I was treated with the upmost respect from the second I walked in by security to the second I left by the treating physician. Thank you so much for your kindness and patience to everyone especially the triage nurses!

I had an unusual and very serious emergency condition arise suddenly, and the Emergency Room doctors were simply excellent: they were able to guess accurately at the diagnosis, got all the confirming tests done very quickly, and admitted me immediately. The nurses and my attending doctor on Level 7 were all very professional and helpful over my three-day stay. All the doctors I encountered, both in Emergency and upstairs, explained things very carefully, in terms I could understand. I've been to GGH several times with another patient, but this was my own first time, so I experienced everything first hand myself. I've also visited friends and relatives in USA hospitals quite a lot. I cannot praise the GGH and its staff enough -- all the ones I met were first-rate.

the most disgusting hospital ever short of doctor, staff as always

Had a really positive experience leaving emerge as a patient. The visit was very efficient and professional and all my tests were performed very quickly. Triage personnel, Leanne, Katrina, Neil and Dr Wendy Li were all very outgoing and kind. Was in and out in 2.5 hours. It was my first visit as a patient but have had family members here as well, all with good visits. Thank you Guelph General.

Awesome ! But waiting time is very slow

Nicole Welch

This place sucks been her for 3 hours and there’s only one other person here! Like really still yet to be seen.

My daughter required stitches for a laceration above her eye. This should be completed 6-8 hours after the injury and we have already been here for 4 hours. It’s still bleeding through the bandage. Numerous people ahead of us and we overheard one of the security guards say that we probably won’t be seen until 8am. Unacceptable. When does this improve?!!?

Ashley Lemoire

Misdiagnosed by Dr. Cameron in emerge after waiting in pain for 6 hours. I went to emerge at Guelph General Monday morning at 12:15am. The triage process was quick and there was about 8 people in front of me in the waiting room. I was suffering in a great amount of pain but it was bearable for the first little while of waiting in the waiting room. After about an hour of sitting in the waiting room, 4/8 people were called back into the see and treat area, leaving 4 of us out in the room. After about 4 hours of waiting in the waiting area, I was in a much greater amount of pain and the security guard told me to get back in line for triage where they gave me some Tylenol and a warm blanket to help the pain and the nurse told me she would try to get me in soon. Around 4:30am I was called back into the see and treat and in this area there was one person waiting to be treated in-front of me. At this point I was in hysterical pain and not once did any staff ask if I was okay or needed anything. The person infant of me was seen by the doctor and it wasn't until an hour later at 6am that the doctor was ready to see me. Dr. Cameron barely asked me any questions about my condition and seemed unconcerned. She examined me and told me to "go buy some cream for relief" from shoppers drug mart. Long story short this cream did not help. I was still in so much pain on Tuesday so went to a Arkell walk-in clinic, where they were extremely sweet, caring and helpful and got me a next-day referral to a specialist where I was properly diagnosed and treated with care. Do not waste your time in Guelph General emerge unless it is life or death.

Father was admitted for a severe fall and lacerations to the face via ambulance. They discharged him saying he was fine, only glueing the cut that clearly needed stitches and he was quite out of it. Called the next day saying he had a stroke and they missed it, after me telling them he didn’t seem fine and needed another consult, which they refused. Useless people, terrible treatment while there. My father could be DEAD because of you.

Misha Hlamazda

went in for a broken hand while there was a severe flu outbreak among children. Kids were crying and screaming and I waited 4 hours, and ended up giving my spot to a crying mother with a crying and screaming baby. That month two children died from that flu. To those saying the wait is due to priority, that’s complete bs, they have no empathy nor do they care about a patients health. Had a severe stabbing chest pain once and spent 6 hours with no other patients, went to find a doctor and he was sitting in a chair with his hands behind his head chatting. I am disgusted with Guelph general and their complete lack of human respect.

In all honesty, I'm not surprised as to how horrible all of the reviews are for GGH. Please, if you're going to read my review you NEED to read the WHOLE THING. I called the ambulance some time in the middle of November of this year at 6:30am, having the WORST abdominal pains of my life. I was transported to the waiting room, puked all over the floor since I was literally not able to maneuver myself onto my feet and over to the trash can in time... The passing by staff COMPLETELY ignored me multiple times, and quietly called someone over the phone to clean up my vomit. No one asked me how I was progressing/feeling, or informed me of my approximate wait time, or tried to comfort me in any way even though there was only one other person in the emergency waiting room with me at 7:30am, and there were many staff members walking around. I was not seen by a doctor for 8 HOURS... I had to request to be moved to a bed on my own so I wouldn't be crouching in a fetal position on the floor (I was not comfortable in an upright seated position at all). I asked the nurse at the desk to move me to one of the 4 available beds in the extension of the emergency waiting room, and she informed me that she "cannot do that because that it needed for incoming emergency patients", I responded to her saying that I WAS an emergency patient... I was brought to the hospital via ambulance. She choked up immediately and asked me if I'd like for her to request for a bed anyway, and I said "Well... yes, I'm sortof vomiting all the time, I can't sit properly, and I really need medical attention ASAP? It's been nearly two hours and I have no clue what is going to happen to me". I honestly do not know what to say. The worst hospital stay of my life. The staff seem completely unempathetic and desensitized to people's pain. I could understand that to a degree, if you see people in pain every day in your life, you tend to be less sensitive to their condition... But come on, I was vomiting uncontrollably, practically shaking and crying in my spot until I had to request for a bed, and no one cares to turn their head? Seriously?

The nurses and doctors were all excellent. I did have an issue with the admin clerk at day surgery. She was the only clerk available and the elderly gentleman that was next, had to wait for her very animated conversation with her co-workers to be done before she even looked at him. When we were next she was very curt and grouchy. I smiled and was polite enough to charm a smile out of her before I was done. Aside from this the experience was great. Very caring staff, waiting time was fair, process was smooth. I would only add, I think they could use donations of good toys. I felt so bad for the little ones in for sugery, the toy buckets are empty, and books are limited.

Dr shamed me for coming in for a head trauma. Went in due to a head injury, and I was concerned as I've had multiple concussions and was showing concussion symptoms. Then the doctor in the ER told me I shouldn't have come in, and if everyone came how fell as I did the hospital would be full. Not the way a patient should be treated when they have a concern about an head injury.

L Vettor

Good triage to treatment process. Empathetic, professional and efficient staff. Much appreciated.

Rob Salgo

I read below a review praising the cleanliness. Visited the hospital this week and the level of uncleanliness is something never seen even in third world country hospitals I have visited. Dirt (from mud to leafs, etc.) in the hallways, lights not working, washrooms dirty and without supplies. Really unbelievable unless you see it.

Eden Z

Was forgotten about for 3 hours, then discharged without receiving any mental health care ???? ...Walked out to call a mental health hotline instead, after being triaged twice and waiting 5 hours with no help.

In the midst of having a gallbladder attack and not knowing it, went into ER and had the best experience. I was in tremendous pain, crying, pacing, trying to self soothe. Was not working. Admitting staff were amazing, patient. The doctors got me some pain medication pronto. Had all my tests done and was out the door in 4 hours. Er docs and nurses are top notch! The security staff are eager to be kind and helpful. Way to go GGH!!

The emergency centre is such a nightmare. You go in and come out 3 hours after.

Austin abadlsdtrip Huether

Broke my foot and it took 3 hours to get in to see the nurse (1 and 1/2 hour for nurse and another hour waiting in back room) to find out I have to pay for my crutches... and you can't pay there. You have to go through the financial department.... wouldn't recommend here unless you were actually about to die or seriously injured without many options.

This hospital is responsible for the death of my father due to their negligence. I would like for them to explain to me how a man with a heart condition was not monitored via heart or pulse monitoring during his stay. Not even providing him with a functional call bell. He died without anyone knowing and his common law partner was the one who found him. Do not bring yourself or your loved ones here, drive to Fergus or Hamilton to seek hospital care.

Dani Kero

Currently sitting at the hospital with my dad. We've been waiting 4 hours now, we've seen PLENTY of patients walk out the ER, but no one has been called in for the last 2 hours. If they're sending so many people home, treated, what could they possibly be so busy with that they can't call any more patients in??? Ridiculous.

Annie Jeles

Triage and emergency room nurses and doctors were all amazing.

Normand Brosseau

Was admitted at 10:00 p.m. the only thing that was slow was my covid results, and other things, the doctor told me I could leave (02:00) staff very nice. Thanks everyone!.

Les Zaiser (8BitBarbarian)

The kindness and care I received at this hospital is above and beyond. Even with the current environment and stress from Covid I was treated like a king. Thank you to all the staff for all of your hard work!

masood ahmad salemyar

Worst hospital I have ever seen. Took us five hours in emergency waiting room. My son and daughter sickness was that serious that they cried long and finally fallen in sleep. Worst management

Aimen F

Took my infant in with 104 fever and uncontrollable crying. ER doctor said shes fine, there is no infection. She came home from day care 2 days later with puss coming out of her ear! She had had an ear infection which ruptured and this so called doctor failed to diagnose it even though he checked both ears. This hospital needs to reassess some of the doctors that work there. If I remembered his name, I would have him notified to the medical board for failing to diagnose such a simple thing which would have saved the little child so much pain.

Sunita Kapoor

Waiting for 5 hours, blood was taken twice and I was still told could be. About 5 minutes after my second blood test I was given a prescription and sent home without waiting for the results. The doctor on duty around at 4pm was so rude. People don't come to hospitals for fun or to party, they come with some medical conditions to resolve. These professional people need to more helpful to everyone instead of showing their attitude. Is this the way she treats all her patients.

Lynda Murray

Thank you so much for the amazing care of my Mom during her stay at the GGH. Everyone was so kind and helpful. The doctors and nurses really listened to our concerns and took the time to explain everything to us in a warm and gentle way. Feel very blessed to live in a city with such a wonderful community hospital!!!

Megan Williams

This year I had to go to Guelph General for a biopsy and it was not a good experience. The doctors were very nice but the nurses were awful. I fainted by the elevator and none of the nurses came to me. Luckily, my boyfriend was there to catch me and carry me to a chair

The hospital needs to be flagged by the ministry of health. Not one of there "see and treat" areas is wiped down which is where every single person is placed. All the Drs here have zero bed side manner and when I called the director I never received a phone call back.

If you're not an emergency, you won't be seen for at least 6 hours.

Mike West

If you’re in an actual emergency don’t go to this hospital. You’ll have better Luck getting medical attention at a McDonald’s. Most of the nurses don’t seem to care a out doing their job and any doctors have seen here have a bad attitude and seem to take it out on patients. Looks like they have to train their staff on doing their job. You will have a much better experience taking the extra 20 minutes driving to Miltons hospital.

jcherryholme

Been here since 10:30pm. Myself (waiting for someone to come back from seeing Dr), and 3 other people waiting to go back to wait even more to see the doctor. No one has been called back for almost 3 hours now! This is a bit ridiculous to have people wait this long. Security lied right to my fiances face, he asked when we'd be seen and he said 5 more, 5 came and we didn't get called, then more people kept getting called in. Someone else had asked when they're up security said they were next (before us too) and then another person had asked and he to told her she was next. All before us. I get if there's a bigger issue then us but don't lie to people. After so many complaints about the wait times, you'd think you would take the concerns and issues of everyone posting and do something about it already. Hire more Dr's for nights so people don't have to be waiting 8 hours alone at the damn hospital. Or better yet, explain as to why nothing has ever been done about the wait times at hospitals. By now there has to be a better solution.

Jenny Chen

Came here to the ER at 2 am, now it's 8:30 am (edit: got seen after 8:30 am) and the sun is up! :) Haven't seen a doctor at all. Nurse said I'm the next person, then called out 8 more names.

Kelsey Turner

Guelph general is pretty trash to be honest. Some staff are friendly and helpful, but some are rude and dismissive. I think the real issue is they're understaffed and overworked. You'll get the basic care you need if you're hurt, but you'll have to push for it. If you aren't sure what's wrong they'll probably run one maybe two tests make you wait 6 hours and send you home. If you're waiting for a while, no matter the issue, ask them if they don't ask you. Chances are they're so busy they forgot you're even there.

Came in at 5am with my husband with severe pain in his torso. At the time there were only 5 other people waiting at most and over the past few hours of waiting, the only people who have left have given up and gone home. Not a single person has made it past the emergency waiting room in over 3 hours. There are only 2 other people left and we are seriously considering just leaving and going to a walk in clinic. At least then you'd be seen by a doctor. My husband hasn't even offered anything to deal with the pain. Edit: i have decided to add a star on the account of by the time we actually managed to get into the treat and see area after a 4 hour wait in the emergency waiting area, even though we still waited another 1.5 hours to actually see a doctor, the doctor we were dealing with was wonderful. He was very compassionate and nice to talk to and really tried to figure out the issue. On the other hand, we also waited 3 hours to get 2 quick tests done and leave. Our total visit was over 8 hours. Also, while some of the nurses were cold and uncaring (mainly two specifically working in the treat and see area), we got to witness a phenomenal geriatric nurse interact with her patients. She was kind, funny, and really tried to connect with her patients; it was inspiring to watch.

When I am living in Guelph I have used Guelph General Hospital. To be honest I have rarely had a good experience there.

Marium Saad

The worst hospital ever. Yes I got through to the triage very quick but after that it was the slowest process ever. No one else was here in front of me and so far I have been waiting 3 hours. I was shivering and asked for a blanket... they provided one 2 hours later. Literally the most useless hospital ever, do not waste your time here, might as well go to toronto, it’ll save you time.

Never had a good experience here in the various times I have been here. From the time my wife was pregnant too coming here for a workplace injury where half my finger was sliced open and everything in between there's honestly nothing good I can say. Extremely slow service, some of the staff here are downright rude and unprofessional, judgemental, don't know how to do their jobs properly (I.E putting an IV & Misdiagsnosing). I would say my worst time of them all here was when my wife was sick during her pregnancy and they kept her in the hospital for a week, had no idea what was wrong with her so they just kept poking and prodding her with needles and different medication like she was a Guinea pig; My wife was sick and tired and so was I so we left (against medical advice) and she got better at home in a few days then in this hell hole.

I went to emerge because of a torn ACL and meniscus. I was triaged and received an x-ray immediately and then I waited almost 12 hours to see the doctor. Now, to be fair, a blown out knee is not an emergency, so the wait time is what it is. If you go to emerge without a life-threatening situation, prepare to wait. When my name was called (to move from the waiting room to the hallway), I couldn't figure out how to wheel my wheelchair without jostling my knee quite painfully, but the nurse stood and watched me struggle to maneuver for 1-2 minutes until a patient in the ER got up to help me. When I asked for a blanket after 2 hours in the cold hallway, the nurse said she would see what she could do and then returned to chatting with the other nurse and I didn't see her again. The level of indifference was saddening. When I eventually saw the doctor, he performed no physical exam, slapped on a zimmer splint, referred me to the ambulatory clinic, and sent me on my way. Perhaps the indifference from the nurses and the doctors came from an irritation that I, along with other patients, were in emerge without valid causes. To this, I say if you don't like people coming to emerge, reorganize the system a bit. Be transparent with people when they are triaged. Tell them you understand why they came, but that you don't see an imminent danger and the wait will be long. Then, give them alternative care options to choose from. In my case, the reason I chose to go to emerge is because I knew from previous experience that that was the avenue to get referred to the ambulatory clinic and that is how you get a referral to an orthopedic surgeon should you need one. I chose to do this because family doctors (at least mine) seem more and more hesitant to refer you to specialists. This means that people like me are jamming up emerge with non-urgent issues to ensure they get into the proper care path out of the gate. I think this situation presents an opportunity where a process improvement would benefit everyone. Maybe they could funnel people with non-urgent musculo-skeletal injuries in a different direction and clear up some space. Get us triaged, get the x-ray, get the crutches, and ask us if we'd prefer to head home and get a call with the results and referral the next day? Or if we would like to wait 6-12 hours to find out. Those who are able to would likely head home and free up the ER doctor's time. The three star review is based on this: While the wait was long and the nurses were ... I would say... cruel, I did get the care I needed a few days later at the ambulatory clinic and I eventually had a successful surgery and everything worked out quite well. In sum, I think some transparency with patients would go a long way. Most of us aren't idiots. We appreciate that people are triaged in order of severity. But we're also not experts on the system. If there is a better avenue for us to take why don't you suggest it? Why not offer alternatives?

Akbar Akrami

I did not have good experience, waited for 6 hrs to see the doctor :( there was only one doctor working in the hospital at night times it was terrible experience ????

I went here today due to some dull aches in my upper right lung/chest area. My first time ever visiting this hospital. I am extremely impressed with the services and staff I encountered here. A nurse named Jessica drew my blood and it was the most painless, easy blood draw I've ever had in my life. And for my case I was seen by Dr. Digby who is a real nice guy. Friendly and answered all of my questions. Saw my X-Ray results in record time and was able to make me feel a lot better about things. All in all, I am shocked to see so many negative reviews on this place. I am from Brampton where the hospital is literal nightmare material. These doctors and staff are light years beyond any service I've had in Brampton. Thanks again Dr. Digby

Mike Gazzola

Been waiting in the E.R. for over 3.5 hours for my daughter who is under two years of age. Her fever was at 104°f upon arrival. Everything in the ER is disgusting, bloody tissue on floor, stains on ground, all the floor mats are filthy. It's a Monday. I wish I could say this is uncommon but it's like this everytime I've ever been here. The craziest thing is that it's really not that busy. I've seen maybe 15 people get called back in 3.5 hours. How is this okay? I would rather pay for my own doctor visits than pay thousands a year in taxes for terrible service. The nurses are rude, the wait times are ridiculous, and the hospital itself is disgusting. Get your life Guelph general or at least get new management.

Margaret Brown

This Hospital is very poorly run, especially when it comes to safety & security. The Hospital recently hired G4S security who provided 2 elite protection officers. However now that the dust has settled they are cutting back to 1 e.p.o. and setting up a system that makes no sense. 1 e.p.o. and then handful of low level guards who can't do anything. The Hospital recently cut it's entire patient support staff in exchange for security guards with little to no training to watch patients... Unfortunately when it comes to safety there is a price and it's clear the Hospital doesn't want to pay.

Amanda Lynn Cote

I arrived to find I was sent to the wrong hospital....gullstones or stress ulcers....fml

My mother broke her ankle in 3 places and the nurse on her floor dropped her, twice. Refused to give her her proper medication from home as the medication they tried to give her was wrong, and if they had injected her with that, she would have a massive allergic reaction. She left the hospital with double her normal blood sugar level... she got better treatment from the paramedics then she did from the hospital staff... If you can do or go to another hospital under your own ability do so.

I have been to Guelph general multiple times and I have had several different types of experiences. I have had a lady who poked my arms 4+ times before she gave up and got a different nurse to take blood samples (who got it on the first try), but I also had an excellent nurse who was so caring and sweet. I was so ill and he gave me the best care I have ever had at any place and made me want to recommend Guelph General any day. Overall it depend on the day for service and bedside manner but usually has very long wait times.

Carolyn Aboujaoude

Horrible place to wait. My husband waited sick with high fever (suspected pneumonia) after being triaged in a waiting room from 10:30pm- 4:30am (6 whole hours) where there was no access to water to drink (or even cups available to drink water from the bathroom) which I dont understand how can be ethically or legally possible. There was one one pop machine available that only accepted large coins (no place to get change). We were next in line since 12am but until 4:30am they haven't even called not even one patient in. Way worse than the hospitals in 3rd world countries that we have been! I would give 0 if possible!!!!

Emily Cooper

My 98 year old grandmother was brought here due to a stroke. It is not her normal hospital. The nurses up in the stroke ward are the nicest group of people. They have been fantastic with my grandmother. It’s not the newest hospital, it’s showing some wear, but everyone has been very helpful and accommodating.

Ismail Dahi

Just i can tell something very important ,the doctors look like very lazy and they just want find free money doing nothing , I feel so sorry for the patients

Jordon Kehoe

Overall the hospital has been good to me and family members. The staff try very hard but are overwhelmed and overworked.

Katharine Elvidge - McDonald - Gies

My experience at Guelph General Hospital was outstanding. I was in for day surgery, and the kindness started right at admissions. The receiving Nurses made me feel immediately comfortable with their friendly and caring attitude. I enjoyed their fun camaraderie, even in the OR. You could tell they enjoyed working there. My compliments to all the staff in day surgery and a special thank you to Doctor J.C.Foute Nelong. I read reviews before writing mine and was taken aback by some of the negative comments. Rest assured my experience was absolutely positive.

My wife and I (and our twin daughters) had a great experience in the birthing unit here. The OBG Dr. Horspool who worked with my wife was amazing. He is very friendly, communicated very well the whole way through the process, and is an expert surgeon. The nurses in the special care nursery are amazing. They are so caring and we learned so much from them. They took incredible care of us and our daughters. Thank you!

Went for a XRay today, it was good overall. They had trouble finding the referral, but figured it out. Covid procedures were smooth and didn't cause a backlog upon entry. Staff were friendly. Equipment was modern and staff were well trained. The bariatric clinic is also top notch. All of my visits to this hospital have been great, except for the time I visited Emerge for a slipped disc and Dr. Eric Ho was the attending, he did nothing. I revisited a few days later and the attending did a proper diagnosis.

I have sever chronic pain and told the nurse this, but I was left to sleep on the floor FOR FIVE HOURS when ALL THREE ER beds were available

My brother went there with a broken toe at 2am. He was told to wait to see a doctor. 6 hours later, at 8am, he finally decided to leave because no doctor saw him...

Went to emerge on Tuesday morning very sick. Turns out I had pneumonia. The nurses were quicker then quick and very personable ,the Dr was extremely friendly and helpful, and the xray techs were polite and efficient. I was there for 5 hours with my hubby and they made sure I was comfortable. Thanks again!! I am Definately on the mend. :) 1

Girlfriend had to go to the hospital with severe pains in her abdominal area. Paramedics were rude and flirting with other paramedics while handling my girlfriend without paying any attention. Nurses were rude and obviously, wait times were through the roof, as always. I would suggest driving over an hour to another hospital rather than going to this joke of a healthcare facility. Let down on many occasions here but couldn't let another one botched visit slide.

Thank you Dr Taylor (Emerg), Dr Kennedy (Admitting), and especially Dr Slatkovsky (6 West). After many, many trips to the hospital, over the past 10 months, for my partner's partial seizures, you cared enough to take a closer look. You have no idea how much better he feels, knowing that there is a possible reason, and a plan to control them. Thank you for not giving up, for being persistent, and for explaining everything to us, every step of the way. To the team on 6 West, particularly the nurses - Cathy, Steve, and Alysia) - thank you for the wonderful care that you provided my partner. You are the best! To Kelly, the master organizer - thank you so much for arranging the ride to our neurologist's appointment in Mississauga. You all are superstars, and we want you to know just how much we really do appreciate all that you have done, and continue to do. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Modern and clean hospital. Very very nice compared to others I've visited.

I honestly would never go to this Emergency Dept again. I have found the staff and Doctors there to be very cold, unsympathetic and completely lacking in both empathy and in having any kind of bedside manner whatsoever. They were very cold, curt to the point of rudeness and i have never ever received much in the way of any sort of care, concern or treatment there. If you walked in with your head cut off and tucked under your arm i still do not think that they would care or be any more sympathetic or move any faster to offer any kind of aid or treatment at all. An absolutely horrendous experience each and every single time i have had to go. In future i think i shall carefully consider death as a legit and viable option rather than to have to experience this Emergency Dept again. Each time i have been "forced" to go i have left feeling even worse than i did before i went. Next time i will just remain in bed and welcome death to take me before i ever put myself through a visit to this Emergency Dept again.

If you want to get misdiagnosed go here. I was born and grew up in Guelph, I’ve never been so disappointed in a hospital. Emerg doctor said my ligaments were all fine. Days later symptoms got worse, came back. Torn ACL ligament.. how the doctor missed this, who knows. I have heard worse stories from other patients waiting as well about being misdiagnosed that resulted in something bigger. Paladin Security guards so unprofessional. It really gives the hospital a bad rep. Texting and chatting about what to eat next on break. A true emergency they wouldn’t be able to think quick on their feet cause there so distracted. Half of them couldn’t take a 300 pound man, glad I took my special Constable test... so funny.

Wife just gave birth here and everything was absolutely wonderful. Nurses were amazing. The pediatricians and lactation consultant were also really great. Everything was communicated quickly and clearly during labor. We had a very positive experience the entire time, 3.5 days including labor and postpartum.

This is a really hard review meaning that I understand how much pressure nurses face as well as doctors. Last night I had to visit the emergency room for a really badly injured shoulder. When I showed up it wasn't clear to me where I need to sit down how you are assessed the signage is very poor and I think the security guards could do a little bit more to make it more friendlier. I think there should always be a nurse standing there with that personal touch waiting to receive A patient regardless if it's a sliver or fracture right now you walk in and you're confused. The actual care that I received from the nurses themselves was fantastic I waited approximately 2 1/2 three hours before seen a doctor and this was probably given the severity of my injury. I feel bad for the patients waiting nearly 7 hours and constantly going up to the desk asking when they'll be seen. I think it would be wise to the hospital to come up with some kind of a system to reassure the patient if they have not been forgotten and where they are in line this could avoid aggravations and help calm the individual. Ultimately I think communication is needed. Once I was taking to the back area it wasn't long before I was seen by a doctor I'm not going to name any names but if the Guelph General Hospital staff are reading this and they can easily look up who was on staff The evening of Sunday, 16 October. I felt my care and concerns were very well taken care of but I also think patients need to be more polite to their healthcare staff thanking them and giving them the positive feedback that they deserve when you get that great care. I truly think there should be more doctors working in the back and there should be more nurses on staff I don't know how you make this happen but a city the size of wcgurlph ealth does deserve more doctors on call for Guelph

Amanda G

Triage was excellent. I came in with my daughter who is already suffering with Post Concussive Syndrome and had a chair break yesterday causing to land head first onto concrete. The Resident? (Did not introduce himself), felt that she was okay even though it was evident that she failed the basic neuro exam! When I requested a CT scan or MRI he said it wasn't necessary. I explained that she is just starting her post concussive treatment: he said that "there is no merit to that and it's just a bunch of bunk". I"m STUNNED> He also suggested that if she had an MRI and| it showed a "cyst; or something, that's opening another can of worms". Based on his nonchalant, don't bother me attitude, I would wage that Neurology as a whole is a "bunk" science to him. I could not get my daughter to come home with me tonight and will be taking her tomorrow to a Hospital that does consider concussions a real injury. Shame on this kid practicing in the ER and shame on the Hospital for having such a poor example of a Doctor to be at their Facility.

I just visited Sunnybrook hospital for the 24th time today after my visit to the Guelph General hospital. After being exposed to a soft coral from my home aquarium. I began to have some discomfort in my eyes. I checked in with triage. I then made them aware I was not wearing safety glasses and was afraid I had gotten it into my eyes. This was a Monday morning. Dr. Hillary Jeanine Barrett Austin examined me briefly and diagnosed it as an allergic reaction. Unfortunately I trusted her professional opinion.......big mistake She gave me a script for an oral steroid and advised me to use Visine if it persisted. I followed those directions as instructed. On the Wednesday I decided to use a few drops of Visine, as my eyes were still blurry. Another huge mistake. Immediately when the drops mixed with the toxins. My eyes began to seriously burn and my vision was blinded. I immediately returned to the GGH in a panic and starting to go into shock. They wheeled me out somewhere in the hospital and told me to wait for the ophthalmologist. I was terrified and in insurmountable amount of pain. After a short period of time I lost consciousness and went into convulsions. At this point I woke up in a hospital room not sure how I got there. They then contacted the opthalmologist and she asked me if they had flushed my eyes. I told her that had not. The million dollar question at this point is? With all the doctors and nurses on duty.. Not one single person could have Google "soft coral eyes" In the meantime these neurotoxins burnt my eyes, eye lids and ultimately melted both my corneas. I thought this was an emergency room, was this not an emergency? I still can't wrap my head around this, it baffles me to this day. I now have scarring on both eyes and recently a cornea transplant. My vision is poor, but that isn't the crux of the problem. The burns are extremely painful and unbearable at times. It's a real treat ???? If you consider this professional, you may want to set your standards a little higher GGH. It's a complete embarrassment to our health care system. The only people impacted in all this is me and my family. There were no repercussions to Dr. Austin or the GGH. Once again the little guy gets bent over and takes it like a champ. GGH step up your game please. Guelph deserves better and so did I.

Aspen Kennedy

Went in around 12:30am as a close friend of mine was struggling with a good amount of pain. Took the triage nurse about 45 minutes to consult her and eventually gave her the medication to ease the pain, but as we sat there waiting to get called in, it took them another 2 hours before we heard another name called and counted MINIMUM 10 people leaving as the wait was way too long, children and all. We sat there for 4 hours before we decided it was a pointless trip and left ourselves. Quite frankly, I don’t believe they even deserve recognition for the unnoticed “help” they give.

The Triage and Maternity Ward staff were excellent! Caring, attentive, friendly and supportive in a somewhat difficult time.

This is the absolute worst, hospital ever visited. A disgrace to every hard working doctor and nurse. The nursing staff are rude, uncaring and place themselves over everyone else. The doctors are useless, you wait for over 6 hours and they spend 20 minutes with you, brushing off all your symptoms.

Nada Z

The only save and grace for this hospital were the amazing paramedics helping me after my car crash. The issues began when I was seen by the nurse practitioner that was to cast my broken arm. She didn't even do a full assessment of my body after the crash. She went straight to casting and I was told a week later I would go to the specialist they have in hospital for repeat xrays and to recast my arm, since this was only a temporary cast. The real nightmare was the treatment I received from all the staff at the Ambulatory Care Department. The receptionists have such a horrible attitude. I got my xray done and then the doctor told me they would not be recasting the temporary cast on my hand and instead they cut the cast shorter so my fingers could move more freely. The tech on hand not only burned me with the cast cutter but also made it look as though an animal had attacked me and ripped the cotton out (pictures attached below). They sent me on my way without even attempting to fix it. When I asked for anything stronger than Tylenol or Advil the doctor immediately jumped to a no since they do not want to prescribe narcotics for this. I understand this completely but the way it was said could have been better and maybe some suggestions for stronger anti-inflammatories or pain relief (other than narcotics) could have been made. I was told regular strength Tylenol and anything similar to regular strength Advil will be sufficient. When we called back to tell them they had burned me with the cast cutter, the tech and the doctor both said the same thing "put a bandaid on it", no sorry or any sign of remorse was given. Not only are they rude, they also have no idea what bedside manner is. Every single person in that department has an attitude and does not appear to care about the patients. They have no patience for questions or concerns. When someone is injured and in pain, the last thing that is needed is to be treated badly by the people that are supposed to be healthcare professionals. For these reasons I suggest anyone that needs ambulatory care, seek out other places. I do not want anyone else to go through the same experience I did.

Nick Sider

If you are a young adult or teen good luck getting medicine you might desperately need. Shatter your ankle? No pain meds for you. Slice your hand open and need 20 stitches? No pain meds for you. They will literally leave you in agony and have no problem doing so. Empathy is non existent.

Terrible and not compassionate at all. They just sit at their desk or over medicate a patient if they don't want to deal with them and the phsyiactric ward looks like a prison ward. Not just the lack of compassion and empathy from the nurses but the entire bedding, the steel showers, the not allowing visitors as much as other patients, the cold food, the creepy gaurd. Lack of any entertainment for patients in this Ward it's depressing!!!

Went there with chest pains not a nurse sees you like most hospitals but a kid security gaurd meets you at the desk first only to tell you to go wait in line by seats . The place is old looking and dirty after waiting there for awhile not even moving we watched a guy come in with his gf barely able to walk clearly something seriously wrong sloping over his chair and they left him there! After watching this drove to a different place to get help which was much cleaner and wayyy more professional ive noticed for a place that by quote "guelph has the nicest ppl by city" id like to know where cause not all but most ppl that my friends n family come across are rude and ignorant .

Great care at this hospital after my c-section this week. The doctors and nurses are amazing on the birthing floor. I got a lot of support in terms of help with breast feeding and dealing with pain.

My mom came in the ER for her ear, she couldnt hear properly and it was very painful. They didn't diagnose my mom properly and said it was a simple pimple inside of her ear. She tried returning 3 times because she was in pain and it was unbearable. The doctor said nothing was wrong and didnt provide her with any medication. Fast forward my mom had an ear infection and other complications that made her completely lose her hearing in her left ear. If it was diagnosed properly it could have been prevented with proper medication for the infection, but instead she needed to go through painful ear surgery in Hamilton to get her hearing fixed. I dont see how the doctor thought it was a simple pimple when it was actually a dangerous infection that caused my mom to lose her hearing...imagine waiting 6 hours 3 times only for the doctor to see you for 2 minutes and not even try to diagnose you properly and then dismiss you. You are dealing with peoples lives and wellbeing...at least care a little about your patients and not be neglectful.

Holly Jaye

I understand the staff are over worked and some are probably under paid but there is no excuse for being downright rude when people are in need of help. The health care system in general needs a re-vamp but this hospital is much worse in terms of service than others in the area.

Ali Talebi

The worst experience ever... Ive been in small towns hospitals before but none of those was this bad... Night shift in emergency is rude and not helpful at all. They treat me like my life is not important to them. Even with small things like asking for a blanket, they would respond after 15-20 minutes. Horrible place to get in

Love it here. Came here two years ago for surgery , back again for surgery today. Staff is very helpful and considerate. Besides one nurse that gave me attitude, the rest were extremely pleasant. After a horrible visit at the Kitchener hospital, this is the only hospital I'd rather go to from now on. Wait times wasn't TOO bad, and Dr Reed is one of the most knowledgeable and helpful surgeons I have ever encountered. Also, thank you Monique for making my stay comfortable.

I had both hips replaced, two years apart. Overall, I had pretty much textbook experiences both times, with great outcomes. I can walk without a cane again! As for the hospital experience, I can give some overall points: Likes: - Quality of care was impressive, it was clear that they had done this operation many times and were very good at it. - Pre-op procedures seem well thought out. I think they understand that you will likely be nervous at this time, so they take some effort to make it less stressful. - Post-op care seemed really good too, they watch you really closely till they are sure that you are well enough to go to your room. - The rooms were fine, with enough space for visitors to sit. Note that I had a semi-private room through my work insurance. - Staff was professional, helpful, and generally friendly. Student caregivers were good too, I never got the feeling of being on shaky ground, care wise. - Hospital food was not as bad as I had feared. Dislikes: - The hospital was super busy, beds were never empty for long. I got the feeling that the staff was stretched thin, and were sometimes rushed. - A few of the caregivers were more businesslike and not into making smalltalk. I think at least partly a result of the previous point. - I don't find hospital beds to be very comfy. - No option to pay for wifi (supposedly it was coming soon but was not offered when I was there) for entertainment, only cable tv and radio. - Catheters. Differences between the two visits: - They improved some of their preventative protocols. On both visits I fainted after my first walkabout with the new hip. No follow up problems, both times it happened. But second visit, they had a cardio SWAT team show up and check me over, just in case. They said it was to pro-actively check out any cardio events, and had reduced the number of code blues that they had since they started doing it. Smart. - They were more stingy with the heavy duty painkillers. First visit, they just fed them to you, based on a proscribed dose. Second visit, you had to give them a pain rating, and they decided what (if any) painkillers to give you. I understand the risks involved with giving opiates, but my advice is: if you can't sleep because of the pain, then don't be a hero, play the pain number game, get the drugs, and get some rest.

Katarina Kulchycki

Wish I could give a zero. They gave a clean bill of health to someone who cannot control their breathing and has been throwing up every ounce of food they eat for the past 2.5 months. Wish they didn't give doctors licences out in cereal boxes. Thanks for nothing.

Worst experience ever, After waiting for 7 hours and hearing the same thing "Doctor will see you soon", we got tired and walked out. And if you do go, take a blanket because they ain't gonna provide one, I asked the nurse and she said she will get it in a bit and after few hours, there is still no sign of her. It is also quiet dirty.

Being pregnant, new in Ontario and suffering from complications that led to the emergency but magnificent delivery of my child this weekend at the Guelph General hospital, all I am is thankful for such a wonderful team of labor and delivery staff (6th floor). With each doctor, nurse and staff that I met, I developed a new favorite. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that the needs of myself and child were met in so many ways. Doctors Ben, Jadi, Afapada, Edwards, Northley; Nurses Lola, Rachel, Lindsay, Angelina, beautiful Ms. Susan at the front desk, were just a few of the people that made a difference in our care. It was such a pleasant and memorable experience all round. I totally recommend Guelph General Hospital for anyone who wants to have a warm, positive and professional birthing experience.

I had a great experience at Guelph General Hospital last week and felt the need to share since so often people have nothing positive to say about it. From the Emergency room right through to the staff on 7 East, my care was stellar. I got the testing and treatment I needed in reasonable time and with great compassion and caring. Dr. Morrison was thorough and knowledgeable and I never doubted I was in great hands. We definitely need a bigger hospital for the size of our growing city, but this place does excellent work and people should celebrate it. Everyday!

Was on my way home from a specialist yesterday in Hamilton got a bad reaction to hand sanitizer I was rushed by ambulance to guelph general and the nurses were great and kind and caring, one nurse had the iv and lost the vein so another nurse came in and got it on the second try the dr was wonderful he ordered all the meds I needed through the iv to settle the reaction down and open my airways I really appreciate the the Dr that took care of me

Amazing staff. Got treatment within half an hour.

I never write reviews, but unfortunately I had a really bad experience at Guelph General a couple weeks ago when I suffered three tibial fractures and a displaced fibula. I was made to wait in emergency from 2:30 a.m to 8 a.m (with only one other patient waiting). When asked for a bandage to wrap ice around my knee with, the nurse gave me one square of gauze, as if that would be enough to wrap around a human leg. When asked again for a proper bandage, she told my brother to "watch the sarcasm, (we) have a no disrespect policy here" and left. I was finally sent for a CT scan, only to find the doctor had marked my non-injured leg on the chart. I was made to wait in pain while they called the doctor to make the correction. Honestly ridiculous, and the condition of my injury likely worsened during my time at this hospital. A circus full of clowns.

Ashley Todorowski

My fiancée had a lung collapse and my mother had a knee dislocate in the last few months and I cannot express how poorly the GGH treated both of them. They were both ignored numerous times and had to wait hours in excruciating pain. They were not taken seriously at all during their stay. I think there was maybe one or two nurses who had proper bedside manners and actually helped properly. The doctors are unclear as to what exactly is going on even when you ask direct questions.( My fiancée had a tube in his chest for the lung collapse and I had asked what was normal and abnormal to look out for. The doctor failed to tell me that blood in the tube was normal so the next day we rushed him back by ambulance to finally get him some pain medication and for them to tell me that the blood is normal.) My mother with the dislocated knee had to use the washroom and I had to go and ask for a nurse for assistance 3 times to get someone to help. As we were on the way to the bathroom we walked past an elderly lady who was yelling and crying out for help because she also had to use the bathroom. We were told they were "very busy" yet we could hear nurses laughing and standing around. When I would go to get one of the nurses attention then they would all scramble away and be "busy" again. I am so disgusted with the service my loved ones received there and I know they are not the only ones. GGH needs to maybe take a look at their procedures and start looking at a more efficient way to do things around there. It's pretty sad everyone I know from Guelph will drive to Fergus and other hospitals to get better, faster care.

Paula Cryderman

Guelph General Hospital Emergency Department should be closed. I arrived around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday July 5, 2020 with a wood chip embedded in my eye. I waited for nearly three hours in considerable pain before leaving. In that time, three patients arrived with Covid 19 symptoms (headache, cough, vomiting, fever, etc.). These patients were given a yellow Covid label and then seated in the triage area where other incoming patients had been and would continue to be seated. The triage chairs sat side by each without social distancing. At no time during my wait, were any of the chairs or surfaces cleaned. Walls and floors in the triage assessment room were filthy. I’m a 70+ year old and the lack of Covid 19 precautions and sanitation freaked me out. I decided my health would be better served to leave. It distresses me to see the historic number of negative reviews received by the Guelph General Emergency Department. There is an obvious problem here and nothing is being done to rectify the situation. Is this the responsibility of the CEO or the Chairman of the Hospital’s Board of Directors? What on earth are you doing????? The Hospital’s public pronouncements about quality patient care, and beautifully worded mission, vision and values statements are sad when compared to the reality experienced by patients. The Emergency Department should demonstrate their excellence by providing quality patient care in a safe, sanitary and timely manner.

Gayle Sausacillio

I was standing outside of the emergency department having a smoke, when a male about 30-40 years old was escorted out by security guards from G4S and then one other security guard from another company who watched from the door. The man said he had come into emergency for Mental Health reasons. However these G4S security guards for what ever reason, escorted him out of the emergency department and when he refused to leave they threw him to the ground and handcuffed him then sent him off in a police car. Then, when I was in the waiting room the guard was very cold and not very helpful, he would stare you down from time to time if you glanced his way. It was a really uncomfortable situation. What really gets to me is turning away someone who has come seeking help. I am disgusted with the hospital's new practices..

Ta H

Went to emerge a few days ago, still feeling weak and got no help. While I was sitting in emerge for hours all I got to listen to was the staff making fun of the ward patient and disgusting flirting. Let alone the nurse who took my blood for one of the tests left bruising on my arm. This hospitals emergency room should be deemed illegal because this is disgusting and it’s only gone downhill from years in the past...

green bean

Quick wait at emerg. Dr was friendly, patient, explained things thoroughly.

Heather Basra Lane

Was in for surgery and was very happy with the Pre-op/Op nurses and doctors. But it was all downhill after I woke up. I have never seen such a filthy hospital.. without exaggeration the floors look like they've never been cleaned. The bathrooms are revolting. I threw my slippers in the garbage when I left because god only knows what they were carrying. I had a couple of nurses (2) who were very kind and actually seemed to care, but for the most part you can expect to fend for yourself and receive no compassion whatsoever. I also begged to be allowed to pay for a different room... private or even semi private, but wasn't allowed. There were 4 of us crammed into 1 room. 1 person was bed ridden and would often be left with her bedpan for some time so the room just reeked of human feces. I am just so happy I don't live in Guelph and will never have to go back.

Ended up in emergency on Halloween day. Was triaged promptly but it wasn't busy. I was treated extremely well. I had a small tear in my esophagus due to vomiting from a chronic gallbladder issue. As I lay there with iv medications I couldn't help but notice that the er team treated everyone who arrived for help very well and respectful. I wish I could remember who was on that day but you're amazing.

I am not sure what is happening with their emergency department, being a nurse myself in Toronto, I have found my self in their emergency and my children at different times. There seems to be an issue with very rude staff. Starting from unprofessional staff flirting giggling with eachother, asking them medical questions they should know but the just don't know the answer but it's in the questions they ask you, Numerous times the nursing staff blow through veins, into muscle to draw blood, they can't put in a simple IV, after one nurse literally I had to say stop after 3rd time, the rest of the hours they used blood lab techs. Overall rudeness, lack of knowledge with the doctors just as bad. In the passed 10 years I have seen the staff of the hospital quality go down. To be in emergency for hours while nurses flirt, talk about how drunk they got, open loud inappropriate conversations. An emergency doctor who kept his hand on my thy, putting my hair behind my ear while talking, giving a wrong diagnosis, and a prescription for truly life changing medications with out the proper testing. Then I realized at home he used another doctors prescription pad, we tried to find out his name to report the lack of knowledge and petting, no could give us a name. When I got home I called my family doctor who advised me to go to emergency, what took place and the prescription, she said do not start those meds. So further testing in Toronto. So many people ignored, treated rudely, but one of their techs felt a little dizzy, she had all kinds of attention and nurses and doctors surrounding her and boyfriend came, loud laughing about drinking the night before they quickly did all tests on her, while serious cases were left with no one. They told her she just had a headache at the end. Me I was told they have no idea, try and book a specialist with family GP. Why are specialists like cardiologists, nerologists etc not on call? Asking them to do one test that would have given us the best chance for diagnosis, nope they did a xray, which we knew would not show. After hours and hours in a non busy (it was during the day regular work week) the doc came back said we have no idea, but you can go, actually said don't come back unless you faint or black out,??? The nurses were supposed to take off electrodes, etc,. They never came, just still hanging out large group laughing talking at desk. So after 25 more mins, I did it my self got dressed when I asked then where do I exit they were mad I interupted them and took me through a few locked doors. This has been many times, and talking with many people in emergency, as well I have brought in neighbours, etc same bad rude treatment, lack of knowledge, lack of knowing how to do IV's blood work, unprofessional, nurses and doctors. The OR nurses and staff are amazing, for me and for many other people I know. Their surgeons are great in every aspect as well. Cleaning staff amazing, food technicians amazing, I was with my friend every day 3 months with cancer, 98% of staff on 4east 4west amazing. The only complaints are we have to shower our family or friends, apparent there have been cuts for PSW, as well as majority of us changed our familys or friends sheets, washed down their beds. I wrote this after the final time, as over 10yrs going to emergency, you forgive a rude staff member, you forgive mistakes in your medical care, but this is now appalling.

I attended the Guelph General for an acute injury on the Monday of a long weekend in the summer. Walk-ins are separated from the ambulance entrance which allowed for a triage system that was more low key for an ER. It was an informal shuffle from chair to chair to wait for triage nurse. HOWEVER, once I was in triage and referred for emergency care, the system was excellent. The ER doctor was amazing, engaged and caring. I was in and out in 90 minutes. This is substantially different than my experience of ER in Hamilton hospitals.

Rene Gurtner

My daughter was at the hospital today and overheard one of the young Dr. there that was not even looking after her mad comments that my daughter overheard: "18 year olds always come in with vague chest pain saying they have family history of this and that and want an ecg and they are completely fine, it's a waste of time" then I got my blood results back and I'm fine and basicallly if I faint I have to go back.. and as I was leaving the doctor looked at my doctor and said "ahahaha nailed it" This is not acceptable behaviour of any human never mind a Dr. that should show compassion!!! We are rather speechless of such behaviour in a hospital setting!

Jussi Paronen

Unfriendly Staff, no smiles anywhere. Bottom floor exit closed night time, no parking in front, when there for Imaging at night, have to walk around the hospital on icy road with Rollator for to get to parking. Shame on you!

Jonathan Shields

Understandable to not allow anybody accompany patients but to hear ER workers discuss Starbucks like its going out of style while patients are crying in pain waiting to be assisted is inappropriate conduct to say the least. Then to find out they dont clean seats and stations if the patient is not suspected of covid is ridiculous since they preach asymptomatic carriers need to be the most cautious (literally what the guy said when brought up). Lastly, to joke around with concerned citizens while they have to leave their sick or injured loved one alone by suggesting to go to the club while they get treated is ridiculous. Terrible staff manners entirely except for the lovely pregnant nurse who displayed great proffesionalism.

Kate F

I was in and out of the ER in 3.5 hrs which is not bad for the afternoon. However, the nurse practitioner was the rudest health care worker I have ever met. She wouldn't give a straight answer to any of my questions, offered no help or solutions, disregarded my pain, and made it clear she was annoyed to have to deal with me at all. Very frustrating experience with a legitimate injury (confirmed by xray she didn't want to give me). To say something positive, the security guard was friendly and did a great job of keeping the triage area organized and I had no issues with the triage nurses, but the experience with the nurse practitioner was bad enough that I never want to return to this hospital.

Giovanni Jervis

I wouldnt recommend even to a dying person. Staff is garbage attitude an all. They dont seem to understand how to work and get there job done. They treat it like a highschool more than a hospital. My best advice to you is GO SOMEWHERE ELSE !!

Expect a 6+ hour wait. & to be sent home to talk to your "family doctor."

They don't care about you at this place. Everyone I've spoken to has had the same experience.

This hospital is a joke

Emma S

Of the three times I’ve been to this hospital, all occasions were extremely disorganized. Doctor referral notes for emerge are not taken into consideration (I.e primary doctor sends in a note as per why they are sending patient to emerge as primary doctor felt it was an emergency). This hospital is also not suitable for paediatric cases of any capacity and doctors seem inept. My own primary doctor said not to go to Guelph general and to go to McMaster, Milton or oakville in the future.

Dave Brown

Chris Cliffe

Don't go here for mental health support, or Homewood. A little more of the turn-of-the-century approach.

I am very upset with the hospital as my friend was treated poorly and told many lies. This is her story: My Name is Beverly Sanders and would like to tell you my story about what i went through this past week and weekend. I was hospitalized on the January 14th and was treated for my COPD. As everyone else blood work needed to be done and so its begins they stuck me 9 times and kept missing my veins and proceeded to keep poking me several times more while saying just 1 just 1 .One nurse was talking on the phone while thinking i was going to let her take blood and i requested that she hang up and take my blood AND she proceeded to tell me"Dont tell me how to do my job" i was treated with disrespect and ignorance as they again poked me several more times still telling me just one more and then put an intervenes in my hand and that vein collapsed and yet again more needles that collapsed my veins i yelled to stop and that i could not take it anymore. Had an ultra sound also and they still missed and poke me some more and now I have black and blue and purple arms and i am in alot of pain and now anxiety and fear are the cause to me not sleeping thinking they are coming back to take more blood.I am scared to death and want to die at home and never come back because of this awful experience. I have experienced this from unprofessional nurses and doctors and would like this to never happen to anyone else I hold the staff responsible for this experience and i want something done so no one else gets treated like that Sincerely Beverly Sanders and i will be talking to a lawyer also about my rights as a patience

Susann Susanna-danna

Terrible hospital. They put my mother in with a male patient claiming that there were no beds available. I found empty semi-private rooms on the same floor, same wing. Filthy rooms! Needed to clean the bed table, side table and tv touch screen. Atrocious.

Marge Hall

Never a good experience. Will go to Fergus or Hamilton chedoke. Will never again go there if my own wishes. Would only be there if taken in by ambulance!!! Too many terrifying stories to tell. Been a Guelphites over 45 years and disabled now for 6 years. Absolutely horrible hospital experiences!!!! Try to avoid at all costs!

Waited an hour after my appointment for an MRI that I drove an hour and a half for with still at least an hour to wait. I walked out, told the receptionist I needed to rebook because unlike them I keep appointments, and she asks me to wait. Ummmm, that's gonna be a hard NO, lil sunshine. Never again. Don't tell patients you're running a half hour behind when you know it's bullcrap. We actually have lives, too.

Sako Tchaprazian

Very rude staff , the girl with orange hair at the entrance of the emergency is very rude and doesn't do her job right. Very disappointed. ????

Jamie Stokes

Sarah Leone

Majority of the nurses there are extremely rude and unhelpful. They take forever to come and assist you or forget to and you literally have to remind them again to help you. Plus they think it's acceptable to talk rudely and give insults to patients and their families if you try to speak up to them on your concerns and complaints. If you’re gonna be rude, disrespectful, uncaring and lazy to help people you shouldn’t even be working as a nurse.

Jim Dalgetty (Delgado)

Came into the ER in the middle of the night crying with severe back and side pain as well as a history of kidney problems since I was little. Was pretty much ignored while I attempted to lay down on the waiting room chairs (since that was the only position that wasn't extremely painful). The only person who expressed any concern was the female triage nurse, blonde with glasses and very nice. Felt bad for how bitchy I was to her, however only one doctor was in on what the nurse called "a very busy night". I've been waiting for hours wanting to puke, crying nobody had said a single word to me. Has not even offered me water. I'm not someone who enjoys going to the hospital, I avoid it at all costs for situations like this. I understand we have to wait but what harm is it to make the wait more comfortable, to at least attempt to make people feel better? Is that not why you went into this field? I get that you're busy and it's a hard job, but there is something called patient care and even in an ER I think it should be present. Not to mention this place was disgusting, blood drops on the bathroom floor. The security guard was completely useless as well. Step it up Guelph Gen.

Wrong diagnosis for a torn ACL after waiting 4 hours, I was told it was a just a sprain and when asked for an X-ray or an MRI referral to be sure the doctor said no. I now have to wait two months for an MRI (which is normal) after finally getting a referral from a sports doctor, although when trying to get in touch with MRI department to get on a cancellation list no one will answer. No one will return my messages either. When called the front desk to get a hold of someone they transferred me to another department with no explanation, where again there was no answer. Left another message and still no one will return my calls. I know many other who have recieved wrong diagnoses at this hospital; one for another torn ACL and one for a broken ankle (who again was told she shouldn't get an X-ray...) From now on I will be driving further for another hospital.

Lexi Fisher

I came here with my friend who was in visible pain to start with. She was hyperventilating, and bawling her eyes out. After an hour, the pain only got worse. She almost passed out, so we went back to the nurse triage and asked for an Advil. My friend was VERY CLEARLY in excruciatingly unbearable pain, yet the nurse just gave her an Advil and sent us back to the waiting room. They absolutely do not care about their patients, and don’t see that sometimes a case can take priority. Never coming back here, I’d rather risk my life and go to Kitchener or something instead.

My mother fell at home yesterday and taken here by ambulance. We had to wait for just over an hour to see her. No bones were broken and the hospital staff were polite and friendly. Emergency room was busy, but on a holiday weekend that's 2 be expected

Michal JJJac

The facts are facts. Going to Emerg is all around a 6-14 hour experience. People must realize that unless you are dying, or are in or immediate help you will wait this long. Look at your situation and TRULY ask yourself. IF a doctor doesn't help me within this time, am I or a loved one going to die? Are you DYING? If not, you will wait. It is procedure. People expect to have top priority because of fevers, and sickness. You will suffer, but there is for all you know someone who had a life threatening accident. The nurses seem to care, and some Doctors really do seem to have no empathy or carry heavy prejudice for people they do not know. Don't cry because your life truly isnt in grave danger but you have another issue. Many people have other issues as well.

Catt Rose

So far good experience at the MRI

Rachelle Sloot

I had a good experience when coming in to emerge for an ultrasound. I had to wait a while but I know they are trying to be efficient. The technician was very friendly and was cautious during the ultrasound (internal and external) as it was painful due to a cyst. The Dr. In emerge was very nice and had a good sense of humor but was very professional and made me feel at ease.

Braydn Harris

Okay... Wth guelph general hospital. How are you unable to print CDs for MRIs .... This is a joke you are a hospital. The only reason im giving a star is because the nurse was nice besides that. This is the worst damn hospital ive ever been to. 2 hour drive from toronto to leave empty handed. Really not happy about this. I hope I never have to step foot in the place again. Place is a joke

Jonathan Hai

Waited from 2am to 8:30am in the emergency room. Not a life threatening illness, but a 6 and a half hour wait is unacceptable. This is a joke of a hospital.

Dave “Lds” Stevens

Be forewarned, males are not permitted into the ultrasound room. This policy is not informed prior to the selection of services. So, if things like witnessing your unborn child with your spouse are important, this isnt the place for you. Also, if you want to know policies beforehand, this also isnt the place for you.

My first negative remark is from November when the Doctor knowing I was hearing impaired after reading my CT scan stood with me at the see and treat desk with many patients 5 ft away loudly telling me I do not have a kidney stone I have cancer , go home and they will call you tomorrow !!!, dealing with stage 4 cancer I did not report such disrespect, BUT just this past Friday after being treated for complications the attending Dr misread my scan and gave me terrible news that my cancer has grown more than 3 times ... only to find out from my Oncologist this was totally incorrect, spending the weekend in total distress .. I will not step foot in this hospital for any type of further treatment for such a serious illness, unprofessional, uncaring, cold doctors that need to go back to school

Woke up with terrible abdominal pain. My wife dropped me off around noon at Guelph General's emergency department. I had surgery the same day for appendicitis. The Nursing team, Dr. Reed and everyone else that surrounded me, took amazing care of me. Great, positive attitudes, always doing everything they could to help. The team took the worst day of my life, fixed me up and made it a pleasant experience. I don't have the words to explain my gratitude to the amazing team.....Thanks a million.

I was left in ER for three and a half hours alone in an empty check and treat area before having a nurse stop and ask "who are you here to visit?"... They'd completely forgotten that I was there to get checked out for pain... Next, my 8 month baby got sick (throwing up and a high fever). First time for either and the triage nurse said " why did you come here!? Don't you know kids get fevers?? Why didn't you go to a pharmacy first!?" Quite angrily and rudely... Afterwards, they shoved Tylenol in my baby's mouth until it ran out the sides (like it was some sort of race to get it there). Finally, got to see a doctor and they were nice. Not a great place.

So cut the end of my thumb off now I'm waiting in a room fir hours 90 % of ppl here don't even have an emergency there's literally ppl just leaving because their sick of waiting get a system where ppl who can't stop bleeding and ppl with a cold arn't going to the same place.

Useless ER! Very uneducated Doctors. They don't know how to help or diagnose sicknesses, and make many mistakes by guessing and not doing proper tests to determine.

Was told after a family member had surgery that they were just giving up. I tried to explain that this sleeping and not actually being able to wake or eat is definitely not normal. After the surgery everything was fine for 2 days and went way down hill. After they told us nothing can be done for someone giving up on life and forcing discharge we called 911 from home. An ambulance came and gave oxygen. When in emergency in another hospital doctors got to work very quickly and we were up in ICU within a few hours at 48% oxygen. This mistake from Guelph hospital was fatal. Doctors, nurses and the ambulance were all shocked that this person was in a hospital and was discharged is such a bad state. Please stay away from this hospital and take yourself or lived ones anywhere else ????

Judy Weber

My husband was in hospital for 10 days for a swollen knee that was infected. it's was swollen and red and very hot. He spent two nights waiting for a bed in ER. Dr Morrison and Dr Hoey were very considerate and took good care and explained what they were doing. The nurse Ivan on the 7th floor was very helpful. The rest of the nurses on 7 and 5 treated him very rudely. He asked on nurse for help with something and she replied, I'm a nurse I don't do that! Our health care system was in the toilet long before COVID. This hospital needs an overhaul of nurses, unfortunately the good ones are few and far between. Kudos to the ones who treat patients with respect. The rest of them should find another career.

melissa dean

I have been in Guelph General 3 times since September and have had excellent health care-both by nurses and doctors. Very thorough testing and diagnostics; however, siloing is a major. I was seen by a number of specialists but the fact that there appears to be no system in place for collaboration is a very real short coming. Another issue that I believe is worth noting is the overload of carbs and sugar in the meals. I spoke to a dietician however, and was given choice in my meal plans and was very pleased. In general, I am very proud of our health care system and think our hard working medical practitioners deserve respect and a lot of credit.

Beware of an ER nurse named Nancy, in her mid to late forties. She is extremely abusive to patients with mental illness. If you have any problems with her, please report her to "Patient Relations".

Amanda Llewellyn

Disgusting service that comes out of this place.

Byron Murdock

If you have an aging family member chances are you will require the services of a hospital at some point. We currently have a 98 year old family member admitted and has been under hospital care for over three weeks. Since this person has a heart beat every effort has been in place to get him out. However he cannot go back to his home so an effort to get him into a nursing home is in effect. As a part of the failing health system in Ontario there is no nursing home beds available in Guelph. So they are forcing him into a retirement home with some CCAC assistance until they can find some hell hole that has no waiting list. There are conditions that must be met before he is accepted into the retirement home. The stories supplied by support staff are inaccurate reports back to the people forcing the issue. It is a compilation of wrong information either intentional or unintentional. It is a very wrong and terrible situation. If you have an aging family member that is heading for long term care, I advise you to get plans in order as this hospital is only interested in freeing up beds with no regards for the patient. Stay away from this hospital in regards to these situations.

Atif Ahmed

Went into emerg due to an allergy reaction. One doctor working. Wait times are atrocious. Ended up passing out waiting. Woke up a couple hours later and still not my turn. Ended up waking out and going to another hospital. Understaffed, unprofessional and clueless staff

I had a wrist fracture in late December and my care from start to finish was marvelous here. I went to the ER and was seen with alacrity and attentiveness. The staff, nurses, and physicians were wonderful. When I went back a few days later for the fracture clinic, the practitioner Kevin and the physician Dr. Young were so helpful and kind. I am very happy with my care. Thank you GGH!l

At night one emergency doctor same 2 hrs waiting time. Cleaning is very bad. No one seems really taking care of this place. How come a hospital can run with one doctor. Some walk in clinics have two doctors

Always a positive experience! Pleasent and professional staff, low wait times, clean!

After having to go to this hospital on two occasions of severe pain in my stomach (later finding out it was a bladder and kidney infection) once driving to emerge driving myself and once arriving in in an ambulance the wait times are ridiculous. Not to mention the security guard with the head band who has been working every time I have been at this hospital had laughed at my friend and telling her that her conversation was far too loud as she was standing outside the first set of entrance doors on the phone crying from pain to her mother of knee pain from a complication with acl surgery. It was unprofessional and made myself and her feel quite uncomfortable in a hospital, a place that all patients and visitors should feel welcome and nurtured. Feel utterly disrespected here. If it was possible to rate this hospital less than one star I would.

Matthew Cunningham

staff are over worked and under paid. The health care system in general needs a re-vamp but this hospital is much worse in terms of service than others in the area.

justin milne

Worst hospital in the area every visit you wait 4 to 6 hours even when you have chest pain and cant breathe..they should have more than 1 doctor working so they could get through more patients.. The triage and er system is completely screwed.

don gunawardena

Worst hospital in Canada

Kristen Wakinewizski

This place is absolutly craziness. ER is packed. They certainly dont care juat wait your turn i do realize they prioritse once u get to register but getting to register is unbeleivable. U pass out before u fet to see someone. Call to speak to an administator someone and u speak to the operator that tells u, u can breath in those masks abd u have to wait your turn. Worse place ever and over packed.

Only if someone decided to die then Guelph General hospital is the place to be

waited over 4 hours in the outer emerg waiting room in the middle of the night when it was not busy at all. the hospital can not state that it doesn't "block" patients or close down emerg when this is not the first time i've heard about this being done (always in the middle of the night). absolutely awful...

Jake Binkle

This place doesn't even deserve a star

Absolutely terrible. Go during the day if you have too. They simply don’t care and can’t triage patients properly. More people should complain to the Patients Ombudsman. I will be going to Cambridge and the new Fergus hospital from now on.

Last year, in September, my mother had a surgery to eliminate a blood clot on the left leg. We want to express our thanks to doctor Hobson and his team for the success of it, and for the fact that my mother is today able to use her leg. We were very worried at that time because of her age (87) and of the difficulties which could arise. Doctor Hobson, very friendly, calm, and demonstrating a big patience, and outstanding professionalism, explained my mother the steps of the surgery and and gave her confidence. Also, after the surgery, he visited her daily at the hospital bed, following the signs of recovery. He arranged for her to have a nurse coming at home to take care till total recovery. Everything went very well so today her and the whole family are very grateful to doctor Hobson. Our thanks also for all nurses who helped her during her stay in the hospital. We are still very impressed by their efficiency, friendliness, and profesionality. Thank you, Guelph Central Hospital, Victoria Giurgiuveanu and family

my father was treated horribly at the hospital over and over....the racist behavior we experienced and the poor care, was disgusting and unfortunately common for us....as i read these comments, i am not surprised....we went to the hospital in cambridge and had excellent service and care....i recommend it over any in the area without hesitation!!

ER Not busy and service is still absolutely ridiculous. Nurse that helped at triage was rude. And we had to ask to be helped!

Jose Henriquez

Ambulatory care, people treated me in a very profesional and polite way, i waited 5 minutes to check in and everything went smooth. The Building though, is showing its years and it doesn’t look the nicer but everything, elevators, services, etc were in perfect working order

Ali Stokes

Was extremely disappointed in the service we DIDNT receive today. The ER staff left my 17 year old sister suffering in pain from a kidney stone with no pain medication and without even being seen by a doctor for over 5 hours. The staff was rude, impersonal, and seemed to be more interested in chit chatting with each other and sitting on their phones. Each floor is a totally different story but the ER is and always will be 1 star.

Claire L

Usually excellent (though I haven't needed its services much) but had a bad experience with a nurse practitioner doing the job a doctor should have been doing. Insist on the doctor, that's my advice. She had no idea how to sew up a cut on my finger -- my GP verified that what she did made no sense. She actually stuck a needle under my nail -- completely unnecessary and you could probably hear my shriek on the 7th floor. I thought I was in an episode of 24 haha. In fact she was supposed to wait until the first needle took effect plus that location was wrong altogether, acc to my wonderful GP. I could see on her worried face that she was trying to remember how to do this stuff -- she should have admitted that it was not coming back to her. Get a doctor to do what they actually have the training to do.

Austin Ropp

Pretty good if your goal is to not get surgery or have anyone check on you

Jacob Wilkins

worst hospital ever. would rather drive to fergus while im bleeding to death cuz it would be faster

Walter Wettges

I was a recent patient in emergency. Got treated with a lot of respect and professionalism. Everyone was great including security, triage, and admitting . Special thanks to Dr Cameron...she was informative and handled my case with great care. thanks guys

Genara Reyes

The service in emergency department was very poor. I and my husband rush my son to emergency hospital 11pm. We waited so much almost 6 hours waiting until we see the doctor. Even my son stomach was hurting his telling me not cause he wants to go home cause he know both of his parent will work at 6am. I cant imagine how that called emergency if the service is very slow. We go for emergency cause we need care and attention on what we feel.

Mary Humphries

Had a bit of a wait at emergency, expected but only because there were sick people who needed to be seen. Had to have a minor wound sutured...Triage nurse was so pleasant and Dr. Tony had a great sense of humour and is a quick sewer! I think I'm fortunate to have access to this hospital and it's great staff...thank you!

Craig Gallant

Way too much Security! How many security guards do you really need!? That money could be spent on more doctors and nurses. Seriously it's hospital...

Proudly PJL

Other than long wait times, the service is pretty good here. All persons eventually get seen. The service is easy to access. If it's a serious issue, they move people up in the line and that's as it should be. Good for prescriptions on a weekend for sure.

Shasta Carr-Harris

Emergency was well organized. Staff were kind and knowledgeable and medical procedures were all done in a timely manner. Excellent overall experience.

Dar frank

Couldn’t even walk out of the emergency room the doctors evaluation was very nonchalant and underwhelming. Doctors report says I can operate heavy equipment. You have got to be kidding me..

Dylan Fair

All of the staff on the birthing unit and in the Nursery were amazing. A few of them really went above and beyond to make our experience that much more memorable. The nursing staff in the nursery took the extra time to teach us tips and tricks that would help us with giving our boy the best care at home. We are truly blessed to have had such a great team bring our boy into the world!! Shoutout to Vanessa, Janet, Anne, Rachael, Tracey, Terry, Jackie, Kim, Kaitlyn, Margaret, Dr. Youash, Dr. Afadapa, and all the others behind the scenes. You guys rock!! Heather, Dylan, and Caelin.

Ashton Ropp

Disgusting. Not even about the cleanliness but how they treat patients. Pushing off surgeries for days, no decency to even speak the patients before or afterward. The nurses are nice enough but have no idea about anything thats gone on and don't follow up to keep patients out of pain. You are better to risk your life and drive to a farther hospital than go here.

Over the last several years, I have attended emergency with my parents numerous times and only twice did it go OK. Also, had hospitalization with both parents as well. Communication is next to nil there. It was a complete nightmare almost every time. The most unempathetic people possible. Nothing is explained to you on how to proceed when you get there, no one is ever friendly, you suffer for hours with no one to check on you. The intake nurses treat you like used can openers. I have had so many nightmarish visits there and cannot even think of ever having to see any part of that place ever again. The last severe emergency with my mother led to another nightmare with unempathetic pathetic doctors and negativity. I could go on and on but just cannot. No faith in that place at all.

Back in February my roommate needed to be taken to the hospital and the paramedics that took her there were excellent. I am looking for the paramedic that picked her up bridal style while she was blacked out drunk in front of Trappers. He's super hot, dark hair, tall, and nice arms. Also he seemed like a nice guy. Let me know if anyone has any information.

Went to emerg last night as I was (and still am) experiencing extreme pain in my left side and back left side. Crying in the ER and breaking a fever every 20 minutes. I know the wait is always awhile so that didn’t bother me as much. However I saw Doctor’s conversing while writing up patient reports and taking their time rather than being quick in seeing patients who need to be seen. Only one nurse was working while training another nurse. After I was seen the doctor disregarded where my pain was and assumed chest problems because I explained it hurt the area to breathe. Nurse took blood and then left it on the cart for an hour and forgot to run it so after a shift change another nurse had to take blood from me again, delaying my results even further. The pain medication they gave me only gave very very temporary relief and they didn’t give me anything else. Had me stay overnight for chest cat scan for blood clots. In the morning everything came back okay so they sent me home even though I was still in a lot of pain, Tylenol 3 wasn’t even doing anything. I feel they disregarded my pain and because it wasn’t what they thought it was I must be fine and was sent home. They should’ve realized I was still in pain and looked into it further with more testing but no. I’m still in the same pain, no changes, and will be going to Fergus from now on as Guelph’s care is subpar at best. Highly disappointed and frustrated with the way I was treated as a patient.
