As I'm writing this review, I'm waiting at the emergency room. Let me tell you I have plenty of time to write a review but I'll keep it short. If you like to wait a long time this place is excellent but the food here is not good. Ive been here for 7.5 hrs and counting, still haven't seen a Dr. And will need an MRI so I'll be around for long time. Friendly advice, go to Ottawa

(Translated) My daughter Janique had to be admitted to the Gatineau emergency room for a kidney stone on the afternoon of July 13, 2020. She arrived by ambulance and received prompt care to relieve her pain and did not have to wait very long, lying on a comfortable stretcher to get a scan. I am writing her comments for her because she is still weakened and she wanted to thank the whole emergency team who gave her attentive care and showed great kindness to her. Elle est arrivée en ambulance et a reçu des soins rapides pour soulager ses douleurs et n'a pas eu a attendre très longtemps, couchée sur une civière confortable pour obtenir un scan. En quelques heures elle avait ses résultats d'analyses et savait la cause des fortes douleurs et a pu revenir à la maison en fin de soirée. J'écris ses commentaires pour elle parce qu'elle est encore affaiblie et elle tenait à remercier toute l'équipe de l'urgence qui lui ont donné des soins attentionnés et ont fait preuve d'une grande gentillesse envers elle. Je les remercie d'avoir pris bien soin de ma fille comme je ne pouvais l'accompagner vu les restrictions des visiteurs durant la pandémie.

My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Gatineau Hospital with the birth of our daughter. The staff members were caring, kind, professional and extremely patient. They respected our wishes for a natural birth and were supportive throughout. They are equipped with many modern tools to help with labour and delivery, most notably the tubs. Overall, a very positive experience.

Waited 10 hours because my son fell, then he got sick soon after this visit. 3 weeks later he was still sick so I came here to go to Le Copain, the children's clinic on the 4th floor of the hospital. Was told by the receptionist to go upstairs to find the clinic. This was around 7pm and the clinic was closed.

This was the best experience I could have hoped for!! Dr. St. Amand is kind and listens. He is very personable and knowledgeable. He has a talent and I get to experience the benefits of it! The worst hospital you could ever go to. I have a tumour on my ovary and they were supposed to call me for my next appointment information within 5-7days. They never did. I have been trying to reach the gynaecology department for two weeks now! Just called again and the receptionist put me on hold for 20 mins and then ended the hold. I do not recommend this hospital. It is worse than Hull hospital.

The wait time is horrible, i got there at around 5-6 and got in a room at around 2-3 am. They didnt even have the childrens psychatrist there so i had to get sent to Pierre-Janet for an even more horrible evaluation. The food is gross, i had to force it down and hold it in to not puke. (:

I received extremely fast and efficient service at the emergency room. I waited barely 15 minutes before being examined by a nurse. The staff was friendly, they promply scheduled a visit to the doctor for the next morning near my house. Parking is free under 1h. Good job.

Do not go to emergency at this hospital. I have gone twice and both times had to give up and go elsewhere after 10 hours and 7 hours wait. There will be times when not one person goes in to see a doctor for five hours at a time. Last night I watched a woman in so much pain she was in hysterics not get attended for two hours. The emergency room is a joke, it's an embarrassment to have this kind of health care in our country.

I have called repeatedly, on different days. I ask to get through to the appropriate department. It rings and rings. Finally a message, only in French, even though I've already selected English as the language I can most fully understand. Just a rapidly delivered message I cannot understand. Happens over and over. Also, when the hospital calls me, the leave a message spoken only in French delivered at racing speed. Today they called, asked for me, I said yes, that's me. Then she said, "Sorry, no"--and hung up. They are the most ignorant personnel I've ever encountered.

Worst hospital ever!!!!! Go somewhere else... You wait and wait and wait... To take an other number to wait again to go on a line to wait again... Looks like a zoo and if you are dying... Well sorry to say you will die there! I hate to the bone that hospital poorly run.... Dont be in a rush! There is a reason why it was quote as the Worst Hospital in America!!! Not only Canadian... Imagine.. Go somewhere else. If you are there for your children please... Please go the CHEO in Ottawa its a 20min drive thats is worthed for your child and are specialized, who takes Qc people and will take care of your child with the most amazing staff and you will not wait. Haw... And you should know that the hospital of Gatineau sometime close even if everyone else outhere works... Apparently i should know better told me the idiot on the phone. Bottom line... That hospital is aweful, gross, poorly run and it the worst hospital i ever saw. Dont go!!!!

Don’t bother with this hospital... just go straight to Ottawa or Buckingham’s hospital. My kid and hubby came here waited almost 9hrs and only saw a nurse. The boy had a broken arm ????????, they couldn’t even do as much as an X-ray... they came back home that night, then my hubby took my boy to Buckingham early the next morning where they got looked at and right away they sent them to Ottawa’s hospital CHEO. If management is reading this, someone should do something about the reputation of this place. It looks nice, but nice building without much, isn’t much!!!

Great team work! A family member had colon surgery yesterday We're impressed with the quality of the service . The staff on the 7th floor is very professional, efficient, caring, friendly, helpful. Part 2/2 The psychiatrist did not have the faintest clue as to her professional obligations under the Quebec Code of Ethics of Physicians. After I objected to Dr ElAlami’s unscientific assessments of claiming schizophrenia because a teen failed to smile at her, she left saying she would be back but never returned. My son was discharged. I wasn’t advised until the next day after I waited >5 hrs to speak to a Dr about the negligent and capricious behaviour my son was being subjected to in Gatineau Hospital ICU. Despite repeat post-visit complaints to the hospital, I didn’t hear back until I was advised that the hospital (Dr ElAlami) contacted DPJ (Child Protection Services) claiming I was neglecting my son because he was anxious/overwhelmed due to the stress of covid. If calling child protection services on me wasn’t bad enough, the hospital also called me to insist that I lie about my address in order to simplify their processing of paperwork. When I refused and pointed out that this is fraud, the hospital moved to extortion saying they would send my son’s health care charges to me if I refused to lie about my address, and they would make sure collections came after me. If your ambulance is routed here, insist that you are no longer ill. This hospital is like something out of a One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. It should be condemned, and staff who take no concern for patient well-being should lose their licenses and credentials to practice healthcare. Some reviews find a few redeeming qualities in outpatient care, but ER, ICU and wards have serious issues with patient neglect, malpractice, lack of communication, and criminal behaviours among staff.

People like to complain a lot but unfortunately all hospitals have their up's and down's. Sometimes they are understaffed and some people are sicker than you are so they will get to go first. Yes hospital staff make mistakes and yes they can be rude at times too. Being a medical professional doesn't exempt you from being a flawed human being. I have been in Ontario hospitals, I have been in Quebec hospitals and in mass clinics like Appletree and Medigo, it's the same everywhere. Yes it sucks to be in pain and to have to wait, but half the people in the waiting room are just as bad or worse off than you and have been waiting too. If you think we have bad doctors, go to med school and become a better one.

Called to inquire about having an English translator after being denied service at Wakefield. They said I shouldn’t have second language anxiety and it shouldn’t be a thing and had to come in alone. Je m'attendais honnêtement à passer des heures à l'urgence ou encore de devoir y passer la nuit, mais avec l'efficacité et les bons soins du personnel, je suis entrée et sortie en moins de 24hrs! Zero stars. We spent 11 hours yesterday waiting for my son to be seen for a suspected broken nose after a sports injury. We kept being told by the triage: you are fifth in line. Two hours later. We are fourth in line. Three hours later. We are third in line. We had to give up at 11:30 p.m. after our initial presentation at 1 p.m. I understand the need to see priority cases first. But we could have been told after say 4 hours, that it was unlikely we were going to be seen. There has got to be a better way to triage patients. Making a 13-year-old wait 11 hours, nearly up to midnight, is inexcusable. Shameful. And we still have no idea if his crooked nose is broken.

Food is terrible. Big communication problems between nurses, doctors, patients and visitors. Noisy place. The personnel is often too busy to do quality work. My wife had a small local surgery to remove ascites (water) in her belly. A few days later she died due to complications. They removed too much water from her body, which significantly lowered her blood pressure. I told them about this problem before but they did not listen. When she got out of the room she fainted and died a few days later. Incompetent people who did this minor surgery.

À 21 h 30 pas de nouvelle de l’infirmière qui doit prendre cette prise de sang. Je prends un numéro pour le triage. Stupéfaction ! l’infirmière avait oublier de prendre ma fiche et m’avais donc oublié. Elle essaya à 7 reprises de prélever du sang, finalement elle réussit après la huitième. Quelle compétence ! Je quitte l’urgence avec un rendez-vous avec une spécialiste en médecine interne. Le jour du rendez-vous venu, la spécialiste m’interdit de prendre les médicaments qui me faisaient du bien sous prétexte qu’il y avait trop de risques d’effets secondaires. Elle me fixe un autre rendez-vous dans six semaines et d’autres prises de sang. Je prends donc rendez-vous pour des prises de sang et l’infirmière aux prélèvements sanguins oublie un test qui nécessite un petit pipi. Encore ici quelle compétence ! Aujourd’hui, je suis sans médicament pour soulager mes douleurs, je ne peux plus fonctionner, je suis donc revenu à la case départ. P.S. SVP, n’allez surtout pas à cet hôpital. L’incompétence et l’indifférence sont la norme chez le personnel infirmier et les médecins ne font pas le poids. Voici mon conseil ; faites-vous référer par un médecin de famille à un spécialiste et téléphoner au CHUM (centre universitaire de l’Université de Montréal) pour prendre un rendez-vous. De plus, les hôpitaux d’Ottawa et les médecins de l’Ontario ne reçoivent leur juste rémunération quand ils traitent les patients du Québec. Horrible place to go for mental illness. They threw my suicudal; mentally unstable daughter out for asking for her meds when they were 3 hours late in administering them. She was informed that she would get them when they decided to give them to her. The nurses lied saying that she was verbally assaulting them. She did say that it's was f--ing wrong to withhold her meds & stated that they were treating the patients like animals. Upon discharging her they refused to give her her prescription for the meds she had been placed on for 10 days & she is now in withdrawal. What makes it worse is the new medication was starting to take effect. Would I take a snake to the gatineau hospital - never. Go to a witch doctor!!

I was sitting in emergency with my daughter who suffered a concussion. We are from Ontario. My daughter was vomitting into a bucket and complaining that she was seeing double as the doctor stood beside her telling me he was discharging her, but if she experienced any signs of nausea, vision problems etc, to take her back to the hospital. Staff is helpful and friendly but the system obvioulsy does not work. They said they only have 1 doctor at night which makes no sense as they were obviously way to busy for that. Other reviews here confirm the same or similar issues. I waited for 9 hours excrutiating pain. The triage nurse asked me to rate the pain from zero to 10. When I said 8 I assumed they would at least give me something but no. I suffered in the waiting room from 3:30 am until 12:30 the next afternoon. I cannot believe that I live and pay huge taxes in a first world country and this is the treatment that I can expect! What if it was my wife or a child that was suffering....I don't know how I would handle that. Absolutely horrible especially since I have visited many other countries that are nowhere near as advanced as Canada (says who I wonder?) yet their health care was first class at a fraction of the cost!! Part 1/2 Neglect, criminal behaviour, and pettiness were rampant. This is absolutely the worst hospital ever. My teen son was confined to a room in ICU and not permitted to shower or go to the bathroom for 5 days as nurses pretended they had to check, double check and triple check if he had a hospital acquired virus; it should have been a simple matter of trusting the medical results. Nurses threw empty cardboard bottles into the room for my son to pee in, and then failed to collect the bottles until I complained for hours to various nurses, staff, and admin. The bottles kept leaking urine onto the floor because the nurses had not prepped them, and no cardboard container is meant to hold urine for 3 days. In a five day period, the collections of urine were picked up only three times. The room smelled worse than a cesspool. The place is filled with petty, small-minded nurses and hospital workers that don’t speak English well, don’t listen, and don’t care. Doctors came in without introducing themselves, nurses kept forgetting to feed my son meals so I was left to find food for him. Medical waste was littering the room from blood draws, IVs and bodily waste. Floor nurses took > 1 1/2 hour lunch breaks leaving a huge gap in the day where no nurse was available to assist patients or their caregivers. A psychiatrist, Dr ElAlami, came in the room without introducing herself and spoke to my son privately. She then invited me back in and asked my son if he wanted a nice long stay in a mental institution. When my son said he wouldn’t like that, she gleefully said she was a psychiatrist (we had both thought she was a nurse) and planned to go in front of a judge and have him committed because he said no. I pointed out that this was not ethical, she was bound to communicate transparently and without coercion, and she had not made any assessments. Her response was priceless: my son failed to smile at her.

This place is terrible. Sister in law Gave birth here. We waited here overnight, The only place we were allowed to wait was 3 floors away from her, in the cafateria, which looks like it has not been cleaned in about a month or two. We wanted to listen in the empty hallway to listen to the baby’s first cry’s but the staff was exteremly rude, constantly asking us to move places and go into the cafateria. What an amazing, stress free and friendly experience. I had to go to the ER on Jan 3 wpww at around 11 am. Was triaged and in a exam room in less than half hour. I broke my foot in early May and was transported by ambulance to this hospital. I waited in the emergency room for 11 hours before seeing a physician. Absolutely unacceptable. Avoid this place at all cost. I think the only thing they specialize in is misery and death.
