Very generous hospital. Had my head stitched up here, it was a student doctor, was promised 11 stitches ended up having 13.

i was diagnose with GBS, the staffs are good and nice. I also like when there's student nurse. But the things i think it needs improvement is to reduce wait times, like i wait 30 minutes for the nurse to need help because they could have hire a bit more staff. The room is kind of too small, the room needs to be larger, because I'm claustrophobic and i don't have enough room to sit to do play on my laptop,

I have been here 5 times in the past month with episodes of nausea lower abdominal pain and chills. I have gotten told it could be a common flu, appendicitis which took 3 ultrasounds just for them to find my appendix was found to be fine but my lymph nodes around my appendix were swollen then I come in once when a headache and a doctor just slaps abdominal migraine on it and send me away ????????????

Rachel Hay

Dr. Brooks is my favourite emerge doctor and is always so helpful, attentive and an amazing listener. I can tell he’s super passionate about his work and he always makes sure my visit is pleasant when I see him here. Thank you, Dr. Brooks! :)

Susan Roach

Very grateful for the excellent care this hospital provides. Everyone we were in contact with was friendly, professional and caring.

Cody Card

You guys couldn't get a simple with in for my new born nephew right. This hospital should be closed down and restructured.

Judi Demers

Went to emerge because of depression and tension headache. Was told i would be staying 72 hours to be assessed and talked to the next day. Finally a glimmer of hope only to find out in the morning a team of 4 told me there was no reason for me to stay. There was nothing they could do for me mainly because I wasn’t suicidal enough. Worse team ever put together for someone in duress. I left feeling helpless. When it comes to mental health they are clueless.

Kiersten Hughes

Ever have I seen a patient be so judged, mistreated and neglected.

David Toister

Do not go here! wait times are 4-5 hours and staff cant be more rude then they already are. This place is a shame

Skyler Spark

This is the worst hospital I have ever been to. I go in and tell the lady sitting at the desk why I was there and she responds with and what do you want us to do! ( I told them my eyes are rolling to the back of my head and I kept falling over from sever pain in my legs) NEVER GO HERE They don't care. Update: they ended up giving me straight liquid codeine. I went to my doctor a few days later for her to tell me what they gave me would kill my liver!!!!! She immediately took me off it and started giving me proper test.

Huge Great care

Absolutely the worst hospital I have ever been in. Wait times are through the roof, expect to wait 8 hours to see anyone after arriving at emerg. The Doctors themselves are nowhere to be found, instead giving all patient work to their numerous and unskilled residents that often mistreat patients and make poor health decisions. Communication is a foreign concept to these people, do not expect to be told anything about the reality of your physical health. They treat patients like cattle. I will never, ever, put my health in the hands of a doctor here again.

Celedon Periwinkle

I can’t praise this hospital enough. I’ve been in most hospitals in the major cities in Ontario. Kidd 2 ICU is phenomenal. The doctors, nurses, pca’s, volunteers, cleaning staff, and admin staff all do their best to help out the patients and their families. I would say to anyone, you can’t be in a better hospital or get better care.

Laurie M

My rating is for the first floor eating areas by the entrance. Huge fruit fly problem everywhere. At the Tim Horton's and the other cafe. Hard to eat when your having to swat fruit flies off your food constantly. The garbage sitting around don't help. Older lady on cash was not friendly at all. Other relatives noticed fruit flies all over food in the Tim Horton's. I will not return to these eating areas while there. My 2 star rating is being generous. Good thing is the Dr's and nurses caring for our loved one are doing a great job and very caring and friendly.

Desiree Harper

This shouldn't even get stars this hospital hands down sucks they tortured me emotionally on burr 4 telling me stupid ass things, that I didn't wake up for group and they didn't wake me up they let me cry they did nothing to help..!so this is the crappiest hospital ever!!!

Karen Kelly

I wish I could give them higher. The nurses are amazing. Frustrating stay and when we got home noticed the intake notes where totally opposite of sequence of events in illness. Thus no answers at all. Most doctors were rude and only listen to themselves and not the patient. Riddle me this how do they know what happened when they don’t listen. This is not the first time we were disappointed in our hospital care in Kingston. Saw actual doctor once other than that interns. After five days you would think we would see the admitting doctor more than once at beginning of stay. Disgusting

This is where my ADHD and sleep disorder was diagnosed through Ontario's most high top child psychologist in Ontario who is a female, Dr Fitzpatrick she was lovely I really liked working with her and she was in it for me not just for the money she said that she knew what my sleep disorder was but I couldn't be properly diagnosed until I was 18 , She knew my body couldn't handle medication she knew how sensitive my body was to medications so she listened to that as well she put me on what she put me on for a reason I really like Dr Fitzpatrick and she is very very good in her field she added me on 75 mg of concerta that's what she put me on and yes it does help from the ages of 8 till I was 18 years old I had one doctor one psychologist that whole entire time and that was her doctor Fitzpatrick , This is also where they fixed my broken arm I had an experimental surgery done to fix my arm I broke both bones by trying to hop a fence at a zoo in Quebec because they were bullying my foster brother and he came to me crying also I got his hat back in the process of breaking my arm pins plate and Rod the pain meds that they had me on at the time were way way way way worse than anything that this been had gave me for pain or for antibiotics or for medical reasons I got way better care and way better medication great Hospital I have titanium in my arm like what they use on the spaceships at nasa they're the ones who fixed that , Wonderful Doctors and an Amazing Hospital Beautiful .!!. .!!. .!!. ☺️????????☺️

Totally unacceptable wait time not to mention the doctors working on my hand were not as trained as should be. I felt as if i was some type of test dummy. I do not recommend thia hospital.

Well I have to say that May 3rd and 4th was the most nicest stay in a hospital I ever had at KGH. Especially with this pandemic. My procedure went perfectly, the doctors were awesome especially Dr. Purzner and my nurse Jenifer. All the nurses and stall in the recovery room were the nicest group of people you would want to take care of you during your stay. This is THE hospital you want to be in and have them take care of your recovery needs. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everyones hard work and these people work hard everyday. I feel great, no pain and my peralasis has already deminished some already. Great job, great people and a great hospital!!!!

Easily the worst hospital in Kingston BY FAR. My dad, WADE MACNEIL, had cancer for 6 years and the cancer doctors gave him chemo, and it stopped working (unfortunately) LAST OCTOBER. (October 2017), and they continued to inject the Chemo Drug into him and stopped it early March (letting it get bigger , instead of doing their jobs and figure something out) so he went 7 , maybe 8 months, WITH NOTHING , while the cancer was eating at him , KGH did absolutely nothing but fill him with prescriptions to help ease the pain and suffering that he was feeling. They had options to help, and they did nothing. If you have a choice of Hospital to go to , either Hotel Due, or Kingston General, DO NOT PICK KINGSTON GENERAL, they are absolutely horrible. My dad passed November 13th, 2018, and I 100% blame it on them. They could have done more , they had OPTIONS. They did nothing. I DO NOT RECOMMEND KGH AND I NEVER WILL. I will forever hate KGH, they have done this to many others too. It's sad. The one day we had to RUSH my dad into Emergency and we explained he has cancer, his fingers are numb, running a high fever , he couldn't walk (had to carry him in basically), he could hardly breathe and they waited over an hour before they took him in and over an hour again before a nurse even came to see him.

Had to go into emerg at 3 am this morning. All the staff were phenomenal. Shout out to Nurse Stephanie & the nurse working the screening area!!!! You guys RAWK! Security/doctor/nurses!! ????????????????????????

I had a heart attack in 2012. The operation team, the post surgery care, my cardiologist and her office team, post event visits, tests and just about everything else I could think of have been top notch, people oriented and professional.

The ER nurse and doctor staff are absolutely horrid! I badly burnt my eye when I was 17 after blowing out a plastic bottle that had been on fire. The fumes seared it shut, melting my lashes and skin, and caused lesions on my actual eyeball. I was in excruciating pain. I had been drinking prior to the incident, but it had been an honest accident that I could have likely had happen entirely sober. I visited the KGH Emergency Room alone very late (technically early) - it was the only one open as HDH closes at 10PM. They served several other people before myself, and the triage nurse was very aggressive and rude. She asks nothing about my injury, only if I had been drinking. I explained multiple times that, yes, I had been drinking when the accident occurred and tried to express the severity of the pain. I waited three hours with a painful, melted eye and foggy blindness. Finally, I was called. A med-student took me to the back and asked if I was inebriated. I replied with something like, "I'm very confident that the hours of pain I have been in have sobered me up." and she expressed that I could speak to an ADDICTIONS COUNSELLORS after she looked at my eye. I declined, and honestly thought it was a joke. During the following, we had not left the back waiting room and I was never taken to a room: She applied a dye to my eye to check for abbraisions, which turned my entire eye black-blue (meaning all areas were affected). She used a tool to open and examine my eye closely. Then, flipped my eyelid to check for damage. After all of this, she explained to me that my eye was severely burnt and damaged, but THAT SHE COULD NOT TREAT ME BECAUSE THE HOSPITAL HAD RUN OUT OF OCULAR FREEZING AGENT. She apologized flatly and left, wishing me good luck. I went home in severe pain, unable to see, and constantly having to pull apart my eyelids - which were wet with burns/open sores and kept fusing together. In the morning, about five hours later, I called my Mom who immediately rushed to me and took me back to the hospital. She also called around to file a complaint with KGH - my Mom works in healthcare and knew exactly what to say and threaten. Finally we visited the optometrist at KGH, who was stunned by the decisions made by the ER med-student and other staff. In the end, they admitted to not treating me because I was an intoxicated minor. The optometry staff let me know that I could have permanently lost my vision in that eye, and prescribed me some medication, applied topical treatments, and gave me an eye patch for the sensitivity to light. RAN OUT OF FREEZING

The OPERATOR whom I was talking to was SO IGNORANT, I wish I could have been able to SLAP her through the phone. ????

My daughter was here many times to try and get help for her Recurrent Complicated Urinary Tract Infections, that has spread to a Kidney Infection because of the hospitals lack of care and compassion for there patients. She had nearly died from this Kidney Infection but they kept on sending her home. They had ignored all of her symptoms and said she was fine to go home yet she could barely walk from weakness. She clearly stated to the doctors all the symptoms for a Urinary Tract Infection but the doctors where more interested on what was on the tests rather then actually treating her or helping her. She is a super smart girl and has had Urinary Tract Infections her whole life so of course she knows what they feel like. I would not recommend going to this hospital ever unless you want to be sent home to almost near death and speak too a brainless doctor for two seconds and then told your fine and be sent home. This hospital clearly only relies on there test results rather then listening to there patients symptoms he or she is currently experiencing. LISTEN TO THE PATIENTS SYMPTOMS! They can tell you a lot of what is actually going on instead of just reading false tests that aren't even accurate anyway. Never go to this hospital unless you feel like dieing.

Great doctors. Very friendly

Staff in the children and adolecents mental health unit are okay, but NOT the psychiatrists, when I was there the psychiatrist told me I want all my mental illnesses.. like i dont recomend here...

Bare minimum levels of care. Terrible wait times and most staff seem overwhelmed and angry. Hippocratic oath? More like hippocraptic oath.

Syndicated Satellite

During covid 19 many hospitals waved the television fee and offered a free television for patients in their room. A free television is a good idea when the patients visitors are restricted due to covid 19. At KGH a patient has to pay full price if they want to use the television in their room. Pretty rotten of KGH to keep charging full price for a patient to use the television in their room... $15 bucks per day at KGH to use the television that is already in the patients room. Free at many other hospitals during covid 19.

The Kingston general Hospital is a great hospital. Had major heart repair. The nurses n teaching staff care for each patient and do what is needed. To take care of all of them. Just one issue is with the young boys possible students they r disrespectful and are no where quiet. They r constantly using language that is inappropriate. They stand out in hall way yelling at each other. Using foul language waking patients.

Kenneth Major

Both kids were delivered here - we were so happy with the guidance, support, and warmth from the KGH staff throughout the whole process.

Cathy M. Babbin

Had an angiogram done there.. The care was superb... The surgeon.. She made me comfortable, and reassured me that I was safe... The nurses were very caring and compassionate... All in all.. A very good (10+)rating.... Thank you......

Wish I didn't even have to put a star rating, this hospital doesn't even deserve one. Triage Nurse lady's are always super rude, 8+ hour wait times in waiting room. Get yelled at too "SIT BACK DOWN" even though your having a medical emergency. Nurses are all rude and giggle and talk about you behind your back like your faking the condition that your in. If you come in an ambulance you will still be sent to the waiting room even if your dieing..or can't breath/walk ect. I had told triage lady one time that I was having trouble breathing and they did nothing about it but told me to sit down and wait my turn..UM NO! I don't feel like dieing today thanks! There is a section in the Emerge area where all the nurses are extremely rude. One told me "Stop beeping your nurse caller it's really annoying" and then said "What do you need?" in a rude tone of voice. I need MEDICAL ATTENTION?!?!? Absolutely rude staff and some doctors there are very rude too.. Complete LACK of doctors are there as well too..IT'S A HOSPITAL! Get more friken doctors for frik sake!! oh wait..they have doctors but there always on BREAK or babbling with other doctors about random stuff when they SHOULD be helping PATENTS. IF YOU DON'T LIKE YOUR JOB DON'T WORK THERE!! GIVE THE JOB SO SOMEONE WHO WOULD ACTUALLY ENJOY IT! I SWEAR MOST PEOPLE ONLY WORK AT KGH FOR THE PAY, THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE PATIENTS AT KGH AT ALL..

Worst hospital I have ever had attended, Almost killed me during 2 of my 4 c sections, its uncleanly, The students on Maternity almost dropped my baby, forgot to send me home with script for pain when going home just 24hours after section on a saturday. The emergency room is the worst ive ever seen in my life They dont even deserve 1 star for rude service, back dated practices and just over all unkindness to patients.

I can’t believe this is a hospital. Everyone should read their web site.Everything posted regarding patient relations is a lie. Administration staff horrible. I’ve lived here all my life and have never had anything good to say about it. I dread going to that horrible place and any family member or friend having to go to that place. It’s like the old institutions. Control, it their word over yours. And they know they’re lying. Sick and demented. Kingston this is our hospital? It’s only a 1star cause it won’t let you write anything unless you rate it something. It’s zero. I’m embarrassed of that place. This is where I live. Unacceptable.

They made me go through hell for several months. The equipment is so underfunded, they gave me no choice but to go to Ottawa to get tested. Yes, going all the way to Ottawa just to use an equipment to get tested. That's not the worst part, to get ACCESS to that equipment took about several months. Horrible experience.

They sure look after you here... Had a mild heart attack... The hospital has very tight security here because of the COVID 19. Each floor has it's day for visitors... In this hospital a person can only have ONE visitor every second day, it has too be the same person.. Like my wife is the only person that is allowed period. I have talked to people from all over Ontario.. On the lighter side of things their has been at least 10 new baby's that I've seen.. If you are sick, I guess this is the place to be.....

Very caring staff and skilled surgeons!!! I was quite surprised at the care I received there as opposed to Brockville general hospital. The nurses were extremity friendly and caring. Listen to my concerns and answered my questions without attitude. It was my first time staying in a hospital overnight so this helped a lot since I do suffer from anxiety.

My Arrival @KGH: Within 3 hours I had been put under twice, casted 3 times, the final decision for best case recovery and longevity of comfort, they resocketed my ankle a few times (perfectionists)decided the x-frame surgery would be best case & executed. Never in my life have I ever been treated with such importance. Im Kind of a thrill seeker, I made an error in judgement…. Ended up here, TERRIFIED!! I Owe a very sincere Thank You Very Much, to Surgeon Dr. Jeff Yach.& his team. It’s looking like I’ll have to thank him 3 times now. Dr Yach had originally put my ankle back together the first time I smashed it to bits. The second time was because I fell and dislocated My ankle for the 5th time. The first time x-Ray Crew interacted with me, they were very gentle not to disturb me they knew….. they just knew….. . Round 2 for the X-Ray Techs, They recognized me right away! they hunkered down and got to work!!!!! I was very impressed they hustled through quickly, I helped what little I could to minimize ankle. Movement and it was a stellar second visit! Team, I’m sorry I don’t know your names, but publicly, I want to thank you all for taking such amazing care of me! You were all so happy to be there and did such an amazing job!! The second visit was an accident when it was not anywhere close to being healed. The absolutely beautiful thing I cannot thank this hospital enough for, is that I tripped and fell, I should have known better given My specific circumstances I was under, and not 1 single person snickered at me. Everyone was urgently at my side, assisting me the best they could. (Even though I had already received 4 covid tests within days resulting negative) I still had to isolate but they were amazing with me, AGAIN!!! Bedside manner was outstanding. Just second to none. I cannot thank the nursing staff and members at KGH Enough for all their hard work & Patience. I Must also publicly thank the nurses that were involved during my recovery as well. Angela, Lief, Rachel, Kathryn, Jennifer, Candace, Alicia, Jenn-Kelly, Teresita, Zoe, Catherine, Ailene, Kirsten, Ellie, Lindsay, Trisha, 2nd Angela, Suzanne, Jackie, & Christina You were all outstanding, keep up the amazing work, you truly made me feel right at home in a city I have no clue how to navigate! Many thanks ???????????????????? Dr Jeff Yach, I felt it necessary to publicly thank you. You did an amazing job keeping me together.

One of the worst hospitals in Ontario, they need more PCA and are extremely understaffed. People who work here are only there for money and their pension.

Fariha Rahman

Low standard of care for mental health patients. If you need help immediately, you're better off calling an ambulance to get seen rather than walking into the hospital yourself. And even when you're in, the psychiatric ward is severely mismanaged by staff that don't seem to care about the patients wellbeing, and you or your loved one may risk being in a worse position than when you/they first went in. Avoid if you can, particularly for mental health issues.

Very long wait times in ER. Probably better to try Urgent Care at Hotel Dieu or drive to Napanee if it's not major. Then again if it's not major go to your own Doctor or one of the excellent Urgent Care options in the city and help reduce crowding in ERs.

dyingchaser

Didnt want to do a cat scan after being asked to several times because I was 90% sure there must be a brain tumor, kept sending my relative home several times, they got tired of my asking so they did it, and well who was right, 3 brain tumors, wouldnt even look at me when they told me, would give one star for those doctors. but the nurses on the top floor were great. It's a hard job that's why I'll gave 4 stars, but you gotta understand the patients are peoples loved ones

Stadiam94

The Nurses/Doctors and all staff on Kidd 5 are absolutely the people you want to have around you and your family when bringing your baby into this world! I was once stuck in the waiting room for 6 hours and they were letting people who came in after me for colds or pregnancy tests go ahead of me. When I finally got a room I waited another 2 hours to be seen by a doctor while I puked my guts out and screamed in pain. I had to ask 3 different nurses for a warm blanket and cup of water because they’d leave and never come back. When I finally saw a doctor, he stayed 2 minutes and it took another hour for the nurse to give me the very low dose of morphine he told her to give me. Another hour later the morphine wasn’t helping and I was still in so much pain but she just rolled her eyes and scoffed like I was lying. It was a horrible experience and definitely discourages me from wanting to go back if I needed to.

Wait times can be bad sometimes but recently went in and got in within 40 minutes. Nurses and doctors are very friendly and seem to care about your well being. The nurses outside at the front of the emergency are not as nice. It seems the farther in you go the nicer they get

There doing a pretty good job. I've had a reason to go to the hospital more times then I'll admit. But thanks to professionals like them I made it threw my.ordeal everytime. Thank you to every health care provider out there.

Theres lots of things I like about KGH - no complaints from this 'professional patient'. Facilities are modern, staff are friendly, I enjoy the student aspect of learning hospitals, because sometimes your illness is not only fascinating to you, they ask lots of questions. Saved my life a few times, which is awesome too. The negative comments aren't necessarly wrong, don't forget though what it looks like on the other side of the waiting room. Triage means you have to wait because you can, when other people cannot.

Brought my wife to emergency. She was dizzy, sweating, vomiting and delirious. She is currently waiting for her permanent residence card so we had to pay. The cashier showed no emotion as she demanded payment before my wife was seen. She even chastised my wife for vomiting in a trash can as if it's something she could control. Worst experience ever. Paid $1300 for 20 minutes with the doctor who was the only nice person there.

Susan Walker

I was just reading the bad reviews about this hospital. On my part, I showed up at the emergency with a severe pain in the right side and back, below the ribs. Was terrible. It spread to my groin and I could barely walk + caused extreme nausea. When the lady at the reception asked me about my pain on a scale from 1 to 10, my answer was: 44!!! I waited for like 10 minutes before health professionals came to me. It's unfortunate because I don't remember the name of the nurses and doctor who took care of me. I was confused that day. But I want to thank you.

I spent 30 days at KGH. Three plus weeks in the ICU (KIDD 2). The Doctor's and Nurses were outstanding. They treated my family with so much compassion. The nursing staff kept my family fully informed. I feel very fortunate that I was taken to KGH, they saved my life. Once I came through from being sedated while on a ventilator, I was supported physically and even more emotionally. I don't have all the names of the wonderful people that cared for me. However, there are a few that l do remember and they really left a last impression. Thank you to Nurse Ben, Nurse Alana, Nurse David and Nurse Jordan. Thank you to the Doctor's, PCA's and the many other Nurse's that provided me with the best possible care. Thank you to all, you are true heroes for the work you have done through this pandemic! First rate ICU 2nd floor! Nothing even comes close in Ontario. The unit is run by Dr. Dan Howes, a very knowledgeable, kind and patient man. Clearly the staff and rotating doctor’s work in synch with him. I’ve been to numerous ICUs (London University Hospital, Hamilton’s St. Joseph’s Hospital and Toronto’s Sunnybrook and Grace Hospitals). KGH is miles ahead. They have my respect and admiration.

I was hit by a truck in September. I was airlifted to Kingston just in case I needed surgery. The nurses were great. The teams of specialists would see me at 5:30 every morning. I couldn't sleep from pain so they never woke me up. Everyone helped me in ways I was not expecting. The view from my window was calming and made me happy.

Tammy Taylor

The nurses on Davey 4 ICU are super great. Very understanding and take care of the patients like its their own family. Don't have anything bad to say about them. Doing a great job.

Best hospital ever! Highly recommended. I had a heart attack and they fixed the problem (a clog blocking 99% my left carotid) in less than one hour with an amazing technics (anglioplasty). All staff was very professional, friendly, knew their job, and always willing to help. All of this was possible due to the quick and professional job of EMS Trenton, they arrived home 5-10 minutes after we call 911, they provided me with the first help, and transport me and my wife in the ambulance to Kingston hospital in less than 1.5 hours, they provided me in the ambulance with many technics and resources to keep me alive, when we arrived to the hospital everything was prepared to my arrival and ready to implement the right procedures to save my live. Very nice and professional guys. Thank you guys for all your support. God bless you.

Was turned away from emergency dept and had to go to hotel dieu. The dieu then sent me back to kgh emerg to be admitted. Rude staff, rude porters, but most of the nurses were caring/helpful. Have been coming here since childhood and the level of care is headed downhill as quickly as the healthcare system. Advocate for yourself!

Terrible terrible place

There are some truly caring and helpful staff who are located at "KGH." However, the admittance process for both patients and visitors has become demoralising, frustrating, and for some; cruel. The dual issues of compassion fatigue and misguided executive policy are not unique to KGH - but, anyone arriving should anticipate a bleak sterility during his or her visit.

Went in with what turned out to be a torn ACL and was sent away without even being looked at by a doctor. My doctor sent me back a month later and again they said because I could walk it wasn’t torn. This place gets no funding so it’s overrun and the doctors are angry. Pretty bad when you have to seek treatment in another town.

Candice Lyon

Went to the er because my friend self harms. Has a long history of mental health not a cry for help! She was stitched up and discharged. No observation. No adjusted meds. Nothing done but surface patch and go. Something's gotta give! Let's hope it's not her life!

I went here one night to be treated for a concussion after taking a fall off a 10ft balcony. I waited hours and then was finally seen by a doctor and dismissed without having any scans or tests or follow ups ordered. Now a few years later I have just had major surgery to remove a 7cm benign bone tumour in my skull that was actually caused from this concussion trauma. I have no hearing left on that side and always wonder if the KGH doctors would have taken me seriously if maybe there would be a better outcome.

Third world countries provide better care. I wish I could give 0 stars as 1 is far too generous. Internal medicine in ER completely disregarded my aunt's wish to live and contacted her POA advising that IV fluids and a feeding tube to help her regain her strength after an infection that put her into a semi-conscious state would be considered "extraordinary measures" and not advisable. As a result, my otherwise completely healthy, strong and independent 95 year old aunt was left to starve and dehydrate to death. Had she been 40 the doctor wouldn't have thought twice about saving her life and certainly wouldn't have worried about contacting a POA. I truly don't understand how it can be legal in this country to allow doctors to decide who gets to live and who doesn't. Shame on the KGH.

My 85 y/o father was brought to KGH via ambulance right after having a massive stroke. My 84 y/o mother followed via private vehicle while friends drove her. She does not drive. Both my parents have been fully vaccinated a month ago and notified the ambulance drivers right away. When my mom arrived at the hospital she was not allowed in. Traumatized, scared and now turned away she sat in the car for 5 hours while intermittently trying to get into the hospital. I live in Vermont and was frantically trying to gain emergency access into Canada while this is happening. The next day my mom tried again to reach anyone who would give her an update of what is going on with no avail. She was told over and over that someone would call her. That never happened. After my arrival, the day after my fathers stroke I was much more aggressive about trying to glean any information about my dad, his condition and prognosis. No return phone calls, nothing!!! At this point we are beside ourselves. This is nothing but unprofessional and a complete absence of regard for family. Finally, day 3 a doctor called and we learned he would be transferred to another hospital. We asked when and the doctor did know but assured us we’d hear from someone to let us know. Nothing. We learned after we called and called to speak his nurse that he had been transferred the previous day! I can’t even begin to explained how outraged I am about this total lack of ability to communicate, or even the decent consideration to consider what the family might be going through. Total absence of professionalism. A VERY disappointing experience for a loving, caring family. For this I give a single star and hope the use of this hospital will never be needed again!!!

Adam Fundytus

I recently had such a great experience at KGH on connell 9. The residents were knowledgeable and caring and the nursing staff helped me rehabilitate my issues faster than I expected. Keep up the great work guys!

Have been here several times, including for both our childrens birth. Have never had a negative experience. Wait times can be long, but that is to be understood when the emergency wait room is full. Have had amazing nurses and doctors. Very professional hospital.

Don’t recommend I’ve been misdiagnosed by them during my pregnancy I went in with extreme pain in my chest stomach and back they check my heart but after that they told me I had heart burn and to take meds, after going in total 6 times and being sent home a bunch they finally did blood work and noticed my white blood cell was high and liver after doing an ultrasound they found out I’ve been having gallbladder attacks, they watched me suffer and didn’t even care now I’m waiting for surgery when I could’ve gotten a while back. Not happy they don’t care until you’re almost dying or wanting to die!

Brad Jones

Please hire more nurses. There is no reason my spouse should be responsible for six patients all on her own on Connell #3. Not only is it extremely stressful but also not a safe and manageable workload to expect of a healthcare professional. This is an urgent matter that requires prompt attention. Peoples lives are at stake and the negligence needs to come to an end!

My husband just got out yesterday after a 2 day stay. He was really well taken care of nurses and doctors worked fast and efficiently. He chose a standard room but was given a private room full bathroom and shower. Says food was very good and nutritional considering it is hospital food he even had a menu to choose from. Plus they have a Tim Hortons at the hospital. Thank you to all the nurses and doctors in the short stay for taking good care of him and making feel like a person not a number felt you listened to him.

The way they handled the treatment of my 6year old child and allowed him to suffer for days because they couldn't be bothered to do an xray? unacceptable, then they botched the transfer from copc to pediatrics at kgh.... copc at hotel dieu actually tries, but then kgh drops the ball every time!

They have some of the worst staff in emerge possible. My girlfriend needed to go to the washroom. She only has one leg that she can use. She asked for crutches or a wheelchair. They didn't bring her any of them. She had to crawl and one nurse laughed. I was on video chat while this entire incident took place and it was absolutely ridiculous on how they treat patients. A guy with a extremely bad back was treated horribly. He was forced to go outside and lay down on a bench. Instead of being able to wait inside in a chair where he could of been more comfortable. He was in a bad accident and has been treated poorly everytime. When a doctor is bringing someone meds the nurse shouldn't ever take it away from the patient. Especially when they need the meds. These are 3 of several incidents that i have seen take place and its sad.

I went in yesterday morning and was told what I've already known and felt with prior but hadn't had anything work successfully to the point I was so swollen I couldnt open my eyes or mouth which was going blue from lack of circulation.... dr. Danielle Bruin did nothing to ease my pain, she looked at me and said eczema even though a doctor at the maple clinic said he thot cellulitis. She disagreed and sent on my way, no swabs blood work nothing to ease the pain, I was pretty upset and as I cabbed to shoppers I felt she wasnt right and singed over to the dieu, where I was given empathy and proper care, I am now off for the next few days on 4 different medications and while st the registry the lady there went and got me some tylenol to ease the pain while I waited for the doc, then a nurse gave me a dose to help with the inflammation and a bag of ice. The doc took every possibility into consideration when testing my blood as well as a second opinion from another doc. I am so thankful for the girls at the dieu, as of kgh I've had more then a few unpleasant and inaccurate care from them.

Ally Cunningham

Worst hospital ever. I was very sick and terrified and had to wait 5 hours to have a very condescending doctor ignore everything I said and assume I was hungover even when I repeatedly informed him that wasn't the cause of my issues. Google is more useful for diagnosis than this place, don't waste your time.

Not sure why this hospital has such a bad rep. I have no family doctor and I have serious spine problems. I'm waiting for a 6th back surgery. The hospital has been amazing! They got me in for a rush MRI and because I don't have a family doctor, the hospital is working on getting me a referral to a spine surgeon. KGH staff has been amazing to me!

this has to be the worst hospital. it takes forever to get results back and they are so slow. next time I will drive my husband to Toronto hospital they work fast there and get results quick

I have never had quite the experience that I have had over the last 31 days dealing with KGH. In fact, there were many, many, times where I felt like I needed to leave in search of a better facility. After all, teaching hospitals leave a lot of room for error. I was transferred to KGH after being brought by ambulance to Napanee. I was placed on Connell 9 - where I did nothing but praise nurses and doctors alike. I did this despite the disappointing care I was receiving by resident Dr. Danica Vartour, a resident who came in with a narrow-minded view and preconceived notions of what is needed for a routine investigation. After suffering for nearly 20 years, it's easy to say that my history is more than complicated. For instance, upon arrival she issued oral medication despite the fact that I had yet to keep anything down. Then I was placed under Dr. Barry Chan's care, where many tests were tried to get to the bottom of what happened. However, with internal medicine, the teams rotate. Lucky for me, and I mean that sarcastically, I was back with resident Dr. Vartour who continued to use narrow-minded judgment to treat my case. It wasn't until weeks later when I asked to speak to my attending that my pain had finally been treated properly. The downside? I had spent nearly 4 weeks on narcotics and was no closer to answers. Luckily, my MRI results were indicatory enough to be switched off internal medicine's service and I was now under the care of GI (which is where I probably should have always been, given the symptoms). Under the care of Dr. Robert Becharra is where I finally began to see a turnaround. He was appalled by the amount of narcotics I had been administered and worked to ween me off. (I was less than thrilled at the time due to an overwhelming amount of pain; but he told me it would be worth it and it was.) Now let’s talk about the nurses. I am the first to praise nurses for all they do. I have continually praised the nurses on Connell 9; boasting to my family and friends how blessed I was that I had this incredible team of nurses advocating for me. Nurses like Stephen, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Dori are why I can say that. Sadly, there are always a few bad seeds that make you question everything. From 7:00 pm on April 12th to 7:00 am on April 13th, my nurse was Shelby. I woke up in pain at 5:30 am and pressed my call bell. It was turned off by the desk, so I pressed again. This continued until 6:15 am when she came into the room. Another patient in the room was in distress as well, and experienced the same thing with the desk turning off call bells. By the time I received my pain medication it was 6:25 am, I was sobbing. I told Shelby, my nurse, that it shouldn't have taken that long, and asked why they kept shutting off my call bell from the desk. Her response? "Are you mobile? Why didn't you walk up to the desk?". Enough said. If you want advice from somebody who has been hospitalized over 5 dozen times in their life, here it is: if you live west of Kingston just go to Toronto. It would be in your best interest to avoid Kingston General Hospital altogether. Let’s just say dogs at a vet are treated better than patients here.

The pediatric care is disgusting here, if I could rate a negative I would, I can only hope people are taking their children to other hospitals in the area, good care is only a short drive or ambulance ride away. AVOID.

I moved my sister from another hospital nearby and placed her here at Kingston. Her care here, once she was discharged from the other hospital, was dramatically better. The level of care that extended from the time she was admitted to today, has been professional and comprehensive - from the nurses, the nurse's aides, and the doctors. Every visit, I was greeted by a courteous and concerned group of doctors and nurses who carefully watched, discussed, and made decisions about my sister's health and slow progress. They communicated with me about every step they took to bring my sister to her present place in recovery from her challenging illness. I am eternally grateful!

Robert Gervais

My experience here was beyond words.....i was treated exceptionally well... from the barrista at tim hortons to the floor cleaning staff. i was overwhelmed with all the wonderful help. Kingston should be extremely proud of KGH !!!!!!!! Many many many thanks to all the staff..... you are all absolutely wonderful.

Quite a large hospital consisting of 8 buildings connected with 14 architects. I think a GPS would be a good idea for it. It offers very few beds for such a large foot print. The building does not have its own independent emergency power. Only enough power for ICUs and Surgery and emergency lighting. Being so many buildings with 6 zones of power, makes it pretty much impossible to configure backup power for everything. The hospital experiences power outages monthly, mainly to do with the city's electrical infrastructure. Diagnostics and Treatment is there and scaled back heavily due to budget restraints by the provincial government. This hospital has high potential if given the budget. The emergency department (5 of them) are taxed as they have to deal with both internal patients and outside. The emergency department needs to have a dedicated unit for out patients. The hospital doesn't have a bio-containment unit which would be great for something like SARS. Wait times for emergency services are long. Anywhere from 2 to 7 hours to see a doctor for help.

Winnifred Smyth

Very friendly staff here. I have gone to this hospital many years and have never been disappointed. Not too sure why this hospital has such a low rating since everyone is so welcoming and helpful.

Compliant filed with KGH, Lawyers involved. Poor despicable conditions, AMA leave. kid 4 room 430 one nurse the head, expected me to solve a very disturbing case of abuse to me and the sick man and staff caring for him, a lack of caring for the old sick man. Very sick man that I was forced to be with and the nurses delayed in caring for him which cause the sick man to try to get out of bed, pulling out his feeding tubes all day and night, he had to pee every 20 mins. I started telling the nurses every time he said Pee. I got out of bed and told the nurse hes trying to get out of bed again, the nurse said tell him to use the button, I said tell him yourself, do your job, Dont push my patience there is very little left, I went to the day room to sleep. For myself I was given no information on the procedure given to me, was treated nice most of the time, after me telling a nurse to start taking care of this man I've had no sleep in 2 days. That is when I walked out of the hospital went home, when I should have been released 2 days ago, only reason I was not released is the surgeon was not available on the weekends. He was too busy to tell me anything of the procedure. Always at admission ask to have all reports sent to family doctor

I have panic attacks and all I need is to take literally ONE dose of being IV’d with Lorazepam. This hospital seems to think because we aren’t actually dying, we should suffer. IVE SUFFERED FOR HOURS. WHY IS SOMETHING MEDICAL MORE IMPORTANT THAN MENTAL? THEY SHOULD BE TREATED EQUALLY. NEVER GOING HERE AGAIN. I HATE THIS PLACE.

Jane doe

these people don't deserve a star for there horrible bedside manner, section A and E are the worse people to come across they just tell you you are faking your illness and should stop, the nurses need to treat patients better the doctors are decent at there job, I wish they order more tests to see what is wrong with me I am tired of suffering from the unknown I get sent in my paramedics and they waste me time doing nothing and 4 hours later I get sent home. when it is really late at night they would not give me a taxi and they say they are not a taxi service they use the taxis for themselves. don't go there unless you are dying save yourself some time and see your gp because after hours of sitting in a bed thats what they tell you, spend a couple dollars and go to a clinic. only go there if you have no choice tell the paramedics if I am not dying leave me be.

Joan Gamble

The cardiac medical team of doctors, nurses, and psw is outstanding. They are efficient and very straight forward. They take the time to answer questions and explain every option. We can't thank them enough. They work long hours and do it with a smile. We are so blessed to live in a country with superior medical care.

Dave Wynd

I really can't say enough good things about this hospital. Let's face it nobody wants to be here but these folks make it as comfortable as possible. Dr Izard and his team explained the whole procedure to my wife and I before the surgery and stopped by afterwards to review what he had done and how happy he was with the outcome. If your surgeon is happy you have to be too. I was kept in the recovery room on my first night so they could keep an eye on me, not the greatest place to sleep but the concern was apprieciated .The food was pretty amazing for a hospital a very pleasant surprise . I really wish I could remember everyone's name for a special shout out. I do remember Lloyd from the recovery room great guy but he needs a haircut and nurses on the 5th floor Davies section Jessica, Pamela and Paul of course all others involved. Thanks again but please don't be offended if you don't see me anytime soon Dave Wynd Brighton,Ontario

My infant daughter had to go in the ambulance and get treated at this hospital; everyone was sooo amazing and kind and very helpful. It seemed like even the emergency room was very, very busy but she was treated very promptly. This was probably the most amazing hospital experience I've ever had. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Kingston General Hospital!

Annamaria Battista

Stay away from this hospital. My 20 year old niece went there twice complaining of shortness of breathe and pain in her back. She diagnosed herself and she was correct. The doctors did not listen to her. She went into cardiac arrest caused by blood clots and died 6 days later. To say that our family is furious for the treatment she did not receive is an understatement. They probably looked at her as a young student and dismissed her symptoms. Someone has to be held accountable for this senseless tragedy. Any other university students out there have similar experiences with this hospital where they did not listen to you???

DS Ds

Don't bother booking any services here. Under the guise of COVID-19, and the general statement from Healthcare workers that the government shut them down, they are choosing who gets first priority. Go to the Emergency, or find another Hospital. Most are giving you the same lines, we have not yet started bookings we are prioritizing prior patients, depends how serious your case is. Shocking state of affairs due to COVID-19 decisions.

Mary van Laren

Recently I needed to make a visit to KGH which quickly turned into requiring surgery. From triage - to home time I cannot say enough about the fantastic caring staff and volunteers. I can honestly say that at my full time job I am not required to be "on" and focused my entire shift and I know I could not do it. The staff is working with minimal resources including people yet they made me feel I was the only one being treated in that hospital. All I needed to do was be patient, that was not much to ask. Thank you, Keep you spirit and energies going.

Paul Salsberg

Arrived there with my daughter at 1:15pm and was asked to stay outside for 90 minutes before they permitted me in. After 6:30pm she still was not seen by a doctor so we packed up and left to another hospital. Even though the staff were friendly, they were obviously ill prepared. The Ontario government poured money to reduce the average wait time two years ago. Today, the average wait time for an Ontario hospital is about 2 hrs and the average length of stay is less than 3hrs. Kingston General Hospital really needs to work on hitting that mark.

The crisis center/mental health wing is absolutely horrible. They made my life 100x worse. They do not care about their patients at all. If you are working in health care it is your duty to CARE about people. They need to fire the staff that works here and re hire new ones, and take it seriously. Honestly. I left feeling much worse than when I came in. Even one of the security guards told me he feels bad for how they treated me. AWFUL place to try and get help, please avoid if possible. This hospital misdiagnosed a female student from Queen's University TWICE who died shortly after being sent home. Just search "Queen student misdiagnosed" on Google. What's the worst? The hospital is still refusing to accept her death as their accident. This hospital is neither competant nor responsible.

Took my 17 year old son in with chest pain, blue lips skin very very white, hands tingling, poor breathing. Was told by triage nurse that blue lips, white skin, and tingling was probably due to the amount of pain he was in! He was left sitting in a wheel chair in the waiting room as they had no bed for him. Blood work and ECG was done right in the filthy waiting room. Triage nurse was rude and yelled at my 20 year old daughter who was trying to explain that the child she was assuming was my son was infact some child happily playing with a toy and was clearly alot younger then the 17yr old with chest pains! Discusted and very Happy that this is not our Home Town!

ER may be the worst in Ontario possibly in Canada wait times are unreal and your treated like there’s nothing wrong or your faking it they will do the absolute bare minimum they can and once that’s over get out, this hospital should be torn down the doctors were clearly pulled from the bottom of the barrel and don’t take there jobs or other peoples safety seriously. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I had delivered my first baby at Kgh. All the nurses, doctors and other staffs were so friendly. The Labour and birth department are amazing. I remember Alex, Dana, Tia and others who had supported me a lot during my tough time. It was just because of their care everything went smooth for me. Thank you guys

Brenda Boudreau

My husband and I went through the emergency department last Monday. It was very busy, the nurses were so very busy. When we got to triage the RN, Meredith was very attentive with my husband's symptoms. They treated all the people in that area with respect and dignity. I have only lived in this area for a few months. We have lived in Niagara and Woodstock before and had many visits within their hospitals. This is by far the best hospital we have visited. These nurses and doctors are attentive, capable and empathetic. I haven't been in a hospital before that is so capable. After my husband was admitted, a nurse, MacKenzie called me with updates. These nurses should be commended for their professionalism, for their understanding and support. Kingston is truly lucky to have these professionals taking care of them!

I find it funny that this place is ironically dubbed a hospital when it clearly cannot even begin to represent one. If you are so understaffed, inefficient, and rude all at the same time, how do you think patients would feel? My friend was forced to wait almost 6hours since they were too 'busy" and she was twisted her leg and was under an immense amount of pain. The pain got worse with time, and she asked every hour or so for an estimate. Everytime she asked "how much longer", the receptionist would tell my friend to stop asking the same question over and over again and to just wait. How do we just wait if she's in immense pain? Like what's the logical reasoning behind this? I thought hospitals accommodate based on severity? What if someone needed emergency surgery? Will they be ignored too? This is absolutely disgusting. A cheap excuse for a hospital, and I really hope they do get re-evaluated for this horrible customer service they stand by.

I recently received excellent care, from entry to exit, at the Cardiac Cath. Clinic at KGH. I can't say enough about their high standard of professionalism and concern for alleviating patients' anxieties and ensuring their clear understanding of the angiogram/plasty process. My doctor (Dr. Joseph Abunassar) and the clinical staff (I regret that I can't remember their names) worked together seamlessly and maintained a dialogue with me throughout the procedure setting me at ease and ensuring minimal discomfort. It was great to see the results on the screen once the angioplasty was complete. Many thanks.

My 3 year old needed a procedure, the nurses, doctors and radiography technologists went above and beyond to try and make sure everything went smooth for my little guy. This hospital is filled with so much knowledge and compassion, I’m so grateful for the level of care we experienced while there.

I can only speak of my experience with the fetal assessment unit. The head scheduler there is unfortunately quite condescending. I could not understand certain technical terms she was using as I am not a doctor, and was therefore using plain language to explain what was needed. I know dealing with customers can sometimes be difficult, especially if you're already having a bad day, but there's no reason customers should be spoken to in this manner when they have nothing to do with what went wrong in the first place. I'm only giving 2 stars and that is to counter balance for how nice, friendly, compassionate, and professional the ultrasound technicians have been.

This place is run by incompetent morons. If there’s a way to waste taxpayer money some department head will find a way. No departments work together. I have no idea how anything gets done. The main hallway is a stone tile floor. This was put in by the previous ceo before she left. It’s bumpy and not good for helping patients recover. Patients needing imaging must be rolled over it in the way there and back. Whomever decided it was a good idea should be fired. I assume someone’s family owns the company that got the job, but it could just be incompetence as usual.

I give the 5 Stars to the Nurses. My wife has been in the hospital quite often and we’ve always found the vast majority of nurses to be kind, caring, professional and knowledgeable. However I truly believe that some Doctors/ Surgeons (not so much the junior students or interns) need to attend sensitivity training. They are too quick to make a judgement based on their experiences and arrogance (for the lack of a better word) and dismiss their patients needs (if you actually ever meet them in person). Not all patients fall within the “normal” range. Unfortunately the wait times in emerge are the result of continuous political budget cuts and will not change anytime soon.

Came at 8pm still in waiting room almost 4 hours later they have taken 8 people in already all who witch came in after I did, they come out say a name no one goes but instead of calling next person in thy don't call anyone for another half an hour this is the slowest worst place you could ever go they don't care about getting you in fast they stand around doing nothing

Every night, my wife has to go through incredible pain due to having Gallstones. She was told to go back to the hospital if she has consistent vomiting or vomits blood, which she did. Had to wait 3 hours and deal with rude staff, just to be told she would have to wait for surgery and there is nothing they can do unless she becomes fatally ill. The negligence and laziness of the employees at KGH is astounding.

Daytime the specialists and other professionals are in the building so it runs fairly smooth, night shift is a bunch of drunk and high nurses too busy hanging out thinking the hospital is their high school Keep a close eye on your child if security is around and make sure he isn’t taking pics of your kid!

5 hours waiting in emergency department to see a nurse and counting. I just watched a woman have to leave with her toddler at her side after she sat for 3.5hrs. Brutal
