We offer you all the opinions of real people who are using the products of Greater Niagara General Hosp (Hospital) in the area close to Fort Erie (Canada).
At the moment the business receives a score of 2.6 out of 5 and the score was based on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that its rating is discreet, and it is based on a large number of scores, so we can be quite sure that the assessment is quite reliable. If many people have bothered to leave their feddback when they are satisfied, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to place tatings when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Hospital corresponds to the category of General hospital.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this hospital !!!! I waited 7 hours yesterday and the doctor at the end was very rude and rushed me out the door. Completely useless she didn't figure out my issue what so ever and cared for that matter. Very disappointed and disgusted by the doctor my whole day wasted. The lady that did my heart test was very kind though
Best ER treatment for my mother on Oct 3,2015 around 7 pm till midnight. Amazing nurse ( Kate!) and doctor. everyone courteous , efficient and thoughtful . Treated this frightened 89 year old with respect and kindness!!! Thank you from her family!!!!!
A barn is cleaner than here. A vet is more gentle and way more knowledgeable than this dr. Let’s not mention the name. We just say “DOCTOR”!!! Well done !!!????
Excellent
They have to increase staff because the wait time to see the Doctor is 4 hours until then the patient will be more tired and keep thinking what happend to him.
I'd leave a terrible review but I believe that all the previous one star ratings speak for me, I would also give this 0 stars.. The automated reply that says ohhh if you have a complaint call this number so we can ignore it like everyone else's. Just wait for it.........
Extremely long wait times but i guess due diligence is better then rushing
I went to the emergency for the first time 2 weeks ago for an avulsion fracture on my ankle. I found the staff to be very friendly and professional! I was there from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. which was a lot quicker than Halton or Peel from where I had moved from this summer. The two ladies Carla and Carrie in triage were very nice as was Kendra in X-ray and Dr. Irfan and nurse Natalie and Derek who fitted me for the aircast. Upon entry I found that there could have been more signage explaining which room to go into or where to wait. It was a little confusing and I had to ask another person sitting down. Once I was sitting in the second room I noticed a TV screen that tells you how many people are waiting and how long the wait is from this point and I thought that to be very handy. Something I had not seen before anywhere else. To my surprise, the doctor himself had called my name out and since I could not walk on my foot nurse Natalie had come to get me to bring me in through the doors to speak with the doctor and her. I have never seen this before, usually when you are called through the door, you are waiting another hour or two so I was quite happy about that!!! It's also very rare to see an actual doctor call your name out at least from where I moved from! That has never happened before! It would have been nice to view my x-rays when speaking with the doctor but he explained everything to me and I had to go back 5 days later to meet with the orthopedic surgeon. On that particular day(5 daysvlater) I was treated very well by Kelli and Meg. I also met Ada who was incredible in helping me to Exit the hospital closer to my car. They were all very friendly and caring and a pleasure to speak with. Dr. Le Roux went over my x-rays with me and although I did not like what I had to hear I will be going back in a couple more weeks. More X-rays. The whole process was very quick as well! As much as nobody likes to go to a hospital, I have to say it was the best experience I've ever had in an emergency for myself or anyone else!
The nursing staff did a wonderful job looking after my wife
I'd like to thank the staff at Greater Niagera General. They were very professional, kind, and their consideration for their patients needs is second to none. From the detailed and patient explanation of my symptoms by Neurologist Dr. Niccneshaw, to the person who admitted me, to Corine (my first nurse in the hallway of Emergency), Raisa (my first nurse on the 1st floor, nurses Pam and Travis who administered the transfusions. Nurses Tammy, Jenny, Dr. Hussain (the speech therapist), the breathing therapist. Everyone played their part in making my stay as pleasant as possible. And Travis, once he passes his exam, will be an excellent find for any hospital. I was also privileged enough to witness how other patients in my room, whom were treated with respect, kindness and compassion while cleaning them and making them comfortable. So, despite the cutbacks and hallway medicine, You (staff of Greater Niagara General), are the BEST, second to none. Thank you.
Nurses are over worked but remain helpful and friendly. The doctors (again over worked) are efficient and knowledgeable and take the time to listen. The building and faculties are showing their age, but for the most part seem clean and maintained. Wait times are average but that is always subject to the severity of your emergency.
This is the worst hospital, brought my fiance in as he was having difficulty breathing. I was told I was not allowed to stay, I told them no way in hell I'm leaving. It took the triage nurse over an hour to see him. They keep taking people who came in after him. People need to stay away from this hospital, if they are afraid of people with breathing issues then they should not be in this profession. Don't ever come to this hospital. If they are so worry about Covid, maybe they should sanitize after each person leaves the triage. So can't be that important.
Niagara's health system needs some SERIOUS work.
Do not go to this hospital... My mom is currently there... but not for long Not only are there not taking her health situation serious which it really is.... but they take forever to get around to do tests... They give you like 5 completely different diagnoses a day.... they seems like they got there doctors degrees from a cracker Jack box... But today.... they give my mom her desert.... a donut.... with over 100 ants crawling all over the outside and inside of the bag... So they feed there patients bugs.... Great health standards and are tax paying money at its finest Take your love ones to a hospital outside of Niagara...
I met an ANGEL today. In the midst of life, there are still KIND and GOOD people who see good in every situation. Michelle a total stranger walked up to me & said: SOMETHING GOOD HAS TO HAPPEN TODAY & out of nowhere she took her card, swiped & paid for my $8 parking. She had earlier waited 6hrs at a different location like me just to see a dr. I discovered she’s an ER-nurse at Niagara Health, Niagara Falls. The world needs people like you. Thank you!
Terrible Terrible service by the hospital and its doctor! We went in the emergency. My Dad wasn’t even treated in a medical room instead was treated in the hallway. Dr. HOSEN SALEM ADREWI payed no attention to his patient, while my dad was here in crazy pain with blood pressure way over 200! Over 7hrs of wait time in an emergency room! We had to go and ask the doctors to help my dad multiple times and the doctor was neglecting, each time he acted like he didn’t know what was happening?! Horrible experience from Niagara Falls hospital.
The staff was amazing. I like it when you don't feel you are imposing on their time when you ask questions.
This place is ok if you have an emergency but other than that you would be better to go to a walk in clinic or if you have transportation go to the St Catharines hospital on fourth Ave faster prompt care and they seem to be more caring and thorough
The nurse at the triage was rude and disrespectful.. Treated me like I was trash.. Didn't even know why I was there yet and already had an opinion about me.. The security guards, huh don't even get me started on them .. Rude and ignorant the entire time.. making fun of the paitents and a man with disabilities that dropped off a resume with two sentences on it.. Literally laughing at him in front of him.. 2 gaurds in emergency waiting room and they were both rude.. I'm completely disgusted by my experience in the waiting room.. The only reason I'm giving a two and not less is because the Doctor on tonight changed my mind on a one star as he was well educated and knowledgeable.. as well as kind and understanding to my pain. Would I recommend this hospital to other? That's a HELL NO.. Drive to Hamilton or elsewhere if you are able to.. you will be treated like a person!!!!
Yesterday, my husband was treated in Emergency, after an accident. He was triaged right away, the EMS team was excellent along with the entire staff who worked through the afternoon with him. Everyone was KIND, efficient, and engaged. They were proud to help every patient nearby from what I saw and heard. I was thankful for such a wonderfully professional and caring staff who got my husband to the next step in healing. Honestly, in all other hospital situations (i.e. with parents or our own previous surgeries, etc.), we did not experience such kindness and efficiency. So KUDOS to those who cared for my husband.
Absolute worst care I have ever received. My son was brought by me and the very rude lady at the front desk told us only one visitor. I told her I know his medical history and she yelled at me only one visitor. She then proceeded to ask him his name and when he didn’t answer because he could let she began to yell at him. When I answered she told me “sir I told you to leave” I calmly advised her that given she couldn’t even get his name clearly she needed me. He then left the hospital delirious and security and the hospital were unwilling to help. 911 took 20 minutes to come to the hospital. Don’t go here EVER. Make the trip to Hamilton Or Fort Erie
Went there with my 1-year-old daughter after she bumped her head when playing and took them more than an hour to get her through the triage. In total was about three hours to see a doctor. They were very disorganized, and the front desk staff was very rude and didn't listen to any of our concerns. On top of that, they put us in a Covid hot zone with other people because we came from a trip even though we had no symptoms at all and those other people did.
Careless attitude of people working inside. Nurses sipping coffee and discussing there party plans in the front office of there emergency when patients are waiting is disrespectful and unethical. Nobody Really cares here. Wait time in unimaginable. Went there at 9am and they called me at 2pm. Just to see for 3 minutes. Doctor doesn’t want to discuss or even talk in a proper manner. Canadian health system is the worse in the world specially because is government funded. They’re getting money from the government anyway if you die. Ridiculous!! Zero star for there service.
It seems the only people motivated to write a review are those who have negative experience. My experience was excellent. I like the triage and the immediate ordering of tests -even before you see the Doctor. It saves time. My 86 yr old father came in and within 2 hours had blood work, ECG, X ray and Brain CT scan. Half hour after the scan we were immediately taken from waiting room to ER area as my Dad had a subdural hematoma. The ER was packed. I think they do what they can day to day to deal with so many people. I have been in several ER and this triage system is the most efficient i have seen.
I have been back and forth from Fort Erie to GNGH on numerous occasions and just want to say, Thank You! From emergency staff, triage nurses, in clearance staff and doctors and nurses, and even the custodian that assisted me. Thank you all for how you treat my dad and the other patients.
ER nurses here are very rude. My wife was admitted to the ER and not fed for almost 24 hours. They blamed her saying she had to order her own food? When we tried to get food after they told us that they said she would have to wait for breakfast. This was 7pm. So she would have been without food for 36 hours. I had to go out and get her food. She requested a private room and was put into the geriatric ward (she’s in her 30’s) with a roommate and no doctor has been to see her or give her an update. The one doctor she did see didn’t even read her chart. This hospital is an abomination. Don’t go here.
This hospital is a joke my dad has been in this hospital for 5 day he has liver and kidney failure (when his ammonia levels are high he goes into a dementia like State and when he can in he was not responding so we had to call an ambulance) that night he was doing better and he was more coherent. the second day my dad was in emerge in one of their rooms his IV blow his vein and was putting the stuff from the IV bag under his skin he was screaming in pain and we pushed the button NO ONE CAME so I pulled the call button out of the wall and still NO ONE CAME so my mom ran and got someone to help.. later that day when my mom and I left the hospital my dad texted and said that he had soiled in product and the nurse told him to clean it himself!! The next day we went to see him and he was in the bathroom and no one would come and clean him so he could get off the toilet!! There is so much more that is wrong with this hospital but I will just stop at that!!! The only reason my dad came to this hospital is because the ambulance brought him here because I live in the Falls normally he goes to St Catharines because that is where his liver and kidney specialist are!! My mom is a retired nurse so she knows how things are supposed to work and I've worked in the healthcare field for years and I know how things are supposed to work this is definitely NOT it!!!!
As a result of incompetence from the management of this hospital, my dad is dead from covid. Acquired the virus while at the hospital. This place had not one, but multiple outbreaks. You'd think the first would be enough. It's easy to throw out a "we are sorry" PR line in a news article, but they don't have to deal with the aftermath that the families do.
I go to gngh often for work related reasons. I find the staff warm and welcoming and the hospital is one of the easiest to navigate.
It was a good experience... no problem for me.
During a GWL weekend, our 2 year old woke up incredibly ill. The wait times at GNG were awful, their infrastructure was dated and in need of updates. Staff however - from triage to nursing/doctors was professional, helpful and working without breathers. Building/infrastructure/wait times and equipment: 1 star. Staff: 5 stars.
Awful workers, took forever and wouldn't respond to us.
I fear for anyone entering this hospital. The only reason I am giving this location an extra star is because I feel as though the nurses are genuinely passionate and caring in their positions. The doctors and paramedics, however, absolutely disregard quality care. After moving to Toronto, I was shocked to see how much better treatment and wait times were at hospitals such as Mount Sinai. Should any friends or relatives need extended care, I would be active in taking them elsewhere.
Niagara's health system needs some SERIOUS work.
If you want to live do not go to this hospital. I was there to get rehydrated and was given medication I clearly said no to and now am catastrophically ill with a severe reaction from the medication that was given
The staff is incompetent...The Doctors are rude and wait times are ridiculous... Worse hospital ever!
Screening seemed a bit confused.
Screening seemed a bit confused.
Fast and professional service today. Thank you all for help. You have all my respect!
With the exception of a few, the staff there have been providing excellent care for our loved one who's been in their care for 9 months now!
ER staff is very friendly and accommodating. ER doctor properly diagnosed my mom which was life threatening
Why is there only 1 triage nurse who leaves for long amounts of time? (Currently 2:51pm on sat feb 5, and she left the room and goes so slow with triage)
A close relative of mine had to wait HOURS in emergency in severe pain. After discovering that the patient had to have emergency surgery for a life-threatening condition, my relative had to stay there for days. The nurses were horribly rude and insensitive. They didn’t respond to the beside signal, they made mistakes in treatment, they gossiped, laughed, and were burdened by the patient. As well, the doctor never came back to tell us about aftercare. This relative of mine had chest pain days later, and REFUSED to go there again. It is quite pathetic when someone needs to go to the hospital but won’t because they’d rather die than go back to Niagara hospital. ALL staff members should be FIRED and replaced with new people who will do their jobs properly. These reviews tell it all. Why does no one listen? This hospital has the WORST reputation of all hospitals around. Whoever runs this hospital should be fired as well.
More safety concern, and faster than St. Catharines emergency
Went here for kidney stones. Spent four hours here, had my charts mixed up or information wasn't added so I went through the initial check multiple times, even after bloodwork and a CT scan. Then I call my urologist ans find out they couldn't even be bothered to send my information and a referral. I should have just gone to St. Catharines instead.
Friendly ,professional ,mindful personnel with bottomless patience . Almost a pleasure to be in the hospital. You'll show your appreciation if you bring a cup of coffee or a box of donuts for your next visit there- those guys save our lives yet don't own a coffee maker.
Have been to the emergency here twice and here for regular care and the staff are the best! They do the best they can, given Canada's lack of funds for healthcare.
On Wednesday, July 19th, around 5pm, I entered GNGH with acute kidney pain. I wish I could remember the names of all the wonderful staff members that helped me....from the triage nurse, to the nurse practitioner, the nurses that took my blood, administered the IVs and pain meds and the CT technician, thank you for your compassion, dedication and professionalism.
I suffer from cirrhosis of the liver and I went in because of the water I was retaining. The did an ultrasound and told me they would not drain it the procedure is called a parenthesis. The following week I saw my transplant DR in Toronto he took one look at me and immediately scheduled an emergency parenthesis. Why GNGH couldn't do the procedure is beyond me.
Had an excellent experience at the emergency with the staff for my son's illness. All the staff showed genuine care and very much had our well being in mind. Triage nurse, Dr. and assistants checked vitals regularly, were professional and friendly. Thankfully also not a busy waiting room at the time. Thank you very much everyone in ER. It was a blessing to experience such personal care!
WORST ER , on Nov 2nd I went in there because I fell and hurt my arm, saw the triage nurse about 3 pm , there was about 70 patients already there waiting to be seen by the Dr. I believe there was only 2 Dr'S ON DUTY, THEN ABOUT INTO OVER 2HRS OF WAITING ..us patients found out that the ER was only one Dr. on duty. When I went in I made sure that I read the waiting time posted on the news screen monitor which ready that wait time is 4.5hrs, now that 4.5hrs came and went 3 times over. When I was finally called in to be seen , I was put to sit on a hallway stretcher and after waiting there for well over 3 hrs, this is totally unacceptable , a little after I walked in (3pm) a few seniors came in on wheelchair, When I walked out the next morning which was close to 3am over 12hrs later I saw that those seniors was still there waiting to be seen...I find this totally unacceptable
We're from Barrie. My sister fudged up her foot. We were there for 5 hours which isn't bad. We entertained each other. The hospital staff are great. We went back a couple of days later to see the surgeon and lucky she didn't have to have surgery. Our trip to Niagara falls was awesome.
Awful, awful, awful place... Family member needed emergency care, and no one called their emergency contact ever! Our family actually called THEM when we thought this person was missing! Lied about certain tests just to push paperwork through. You can tell that 90% of the staff on some floors are completely burnt out and just trying to do the best they can with little to no support, and administrators were just worried about if there was enough hand sanitizer in each room so they could push through their accreditation. I hope any and all funding gets pulled from there so the few folks that are actually carrying the hospital can move into another location that actually cares about them and the patients.
Brought my wife to this place. Based on the reviews , just wasn't sure but had no choice. Everyone from reception to registration to triage nurse to lab tech "Margaret" were very courteous and polite and professional. Was attended by a young doctor named Dr. Shahan. He was empathetic and polite. With his knowledge and his patience, he made both myself and my spouse at comfort, something one needs in a place like a hospital. You guys are doing an awesome job. Hats off to everyone at GNG hospital. You guys are the best. Keep up the good work. Your services to the community and public is much appreciated.
Very rude nurses. They didn't even care about me and they treated me like an animal. A mentally ill lady ran out of her room with no pants on, only a towel covering and the nurses just watched and laughed. The security guard couldn't even care less about the situation. All he did was walk after her and laugh. Reason I'm giving it a 2 star is because the surgeon was very nice and changed my mood. But all the other nurses just ruined your day and always kept a frown on when a patient comes. Would not recommend for others unless it's a major emergency like you got shot or something because after it's a hospital.
They've taken beds out of the little ER rooms and replaced them with chairs so they can fit up to 5 patients in there instead of 1. I spent 12 hours in a chair, semi coherent, and my neck and back are suffering for it. It took over 5 hours to see a doctor and longer than that to get any pain medication. There was so little empathy from the staff there. There was a student nurse working with the male nurse assigned to me and she was the most pleasant and calming presence of any of the staff. I guess she's too new to have become jaded and hardened. I've had the misfortune to be in too many hospitals around the world and I really think Niagara General is the worst.
Dirty, so far 3 hr waiting hate it
My husband had a heart attack the last Tuesday and nurses and Drs treated him excellent ! Thank you very much for your help
Very bad communication between different parts of the hospital. Sent to ultrasound waiting room from emergency only to wait 2.5 hrs to be told the ultrasound was cancelled without reason or notice. Told to return the next day only to wait 5 more hours for the results to be told I wasn't even registered by the lady I spoke with in emergency. Four days later, I received the results from my doctor, luckily everything worked out for me, I can only hope this doesn't happen to other people in time sensitive situations and I am a one off scenario. Strongly recommend going to any other hospital if possible or try to go off peak hours as under pressure lots of mistakes are made it seems.
Took me in fast for my CT scan because I was transferred in from another hospital. For Pride month I expected more LGBT friendly/wise staff? Wrong. I feel so disrespected and disgusted with how I was treated. Better off going to Hamilton.
Adding numbers of patients to Wait times when there are less actually waiting to be seen, let alone times aren't anywhere close to accurate, website will say three hours when in fact you'll be waiting anywhere from 5 to 9 hours in the waiting room. Only sanitation that is done, is between shifts. Staff are ignorant to patients with speech problems. Waiting room is a mess and cleaning staff couldn't even do a proper cleaning job.

Had a good experience. First time here, we're from out of town, was there at 530am. My son needed to be seen by a doctor just to get a prescription, only a 5 min visit. The doctor saw us and didn't make us wait the full 3 hrs. Was extremely nice and was gentle with him. Thank you so much for making it a good first experience
The service here Is awful! Nurses and doctors ignoring patients in critical conditions. If you're debating going here just don't.
Nurses are great but the hospital is horribly understaffed and slow. Be ready for 7 hours of waiting for a referral!
terrible service - the lady I dealt with was rude and condescending. This was my first and last time going to this hospital.
Went in for a colonoscopy today. Staff at the Endo Center were very friendly and professional. They took great care of me and made the entire procedure very relaxing. Kudos to them for their hard work and professionalism.
Had an Mri done here today and triage nurse and mri techs were super nice and helpful. I was pretty nervous and the tech was great explaining everything and just really pleasant. Overall good experience!

I've been twice at the emergency department since August. Was taken very fast, all necessary procedures were done, blood work, ECG, x-ray. Of course it has taken time, but the stuff is doing their best. The only notice: girls who are doing blood work - please practice more and be more careful when you put a needle into a vein. Anyways thanks everyone for your efforts!
I have had knee replacement surgery with Dr Le Roux who in my opinion is the best ortho surgeon in the Niagara area. The staff at GNGH go above and beyond their line of duty to my sure you are comfortable and are concerned for your well being.
The Doctors are very nice, But the X-Ray Lady Technician was so very rude. How can she be allowed to work in the hospital when she acts like that towards others. Oh.! And if you are from the UK she will let you know right away she won't like you. But I did find out that she is also like that towards all the other staff who work at the hospital. In my opinion she the X-Ray Technician should be fired from her job. I could say a lot more about that Technician but I will leave it at that.
Garbage young nurses ...no brain...
It is 12:49 am Wed. Feb. 26. I am on the Brock Wing if GNGH after having hip replacement surgery Monday morning. I was awakened at midnight by a man’s voice apparently continuing a somewhat heated discussion with some staff . I believe that whatever they were talking about was a continuation of a discussion I could hear around 6 pm. I do not know the actual context nor do I need to. Obviously the problem was some kind of leadership or fellowship issue, the problem was that the words were being spoken in a fairly loud and frustrated sounding voice and i was awakened from a deep sleep. I do not know why the people involved felt it important to continue to have this discussion well into the night. I was awakened earlier by this same voice with apparently the same complaints. This is not the venue to sort out whatever problems this man or the staff has. There are people here in recovering mode. I cannot even get out of bed by myself to ask them to be quiet nor should I have to. Surely there are places in this building where staff concerns can be discussed without disturbing the patients. This man who was very frustrated was putting his own needs above the patients’ in the several rooms around where they were taking. I did ring for a nurse and she relayed a message to the group for me. She also took good care of the other patient in my room who was awakened and in some distress. The staff here in general has been excellent and I try to show my appreciation for all they do. I have been well taken care of and I expect will continue to be well taken care of. However someone needs to take a serious look at the problems presented by this man and his choice of time and place to present them. Also the area where these discussions were taking place seems to have become a social Gathering place for staff on the floor. I have no problem with that but I do not need or want to hear their personal jokes and teasing each other.it is unprofessional for them to do this and they should be more sware of what patients can hear. Now here I am 1:10 In the morning waiting for the time I can have my next pain pill and get back to sleep. It is quiet out there now and I hope some people feel a bit sheepish for putting patients in this position. Again I have no complaint about any of the staff who have attended so well to me already this week but I have a huge problem with the behaviour of this male staff member in a public venue airing his complaints. Now maybe I can get back to sleep.
I just witnessed the most pathetic excuse for a medical system not help a woman who was screaming in agonizing pain after her appendix exploded and I (and others) watched as no one helped her and she actually had to to wait in the waiting room. I am actually disgusted right now. My neurologist told me to go to the ER because she's worried I have bleeding on my brain but after sitting here for 6 hours I was told it's not an emergency and to go home, this place is brutal!
Hands down the worst hospital I have ever been to
I crashed my bike [riding no-hands ... won't do THAT again], landed on my chin, bit through my left lower lip, and fractured my right mandible. Good thing I was wearing a helmet! Had excellent, prompt care at GNGH ER, supervised by Dr. Hammiah. His reconstruction of my left lower lip was so good that it is hard to tell that there were 10 stitches there. All of ER and CT scan staff were first rate, and I recovered way faster than I expected. Very grateful to GNGH ER, Dr. Hammiah, and the staff for my excellent care.
I took a patient into the emergency room at Niagara General a few weeks ago. The doctor conducted an initial assessment and then, refused to return to the room. Then, this person I took into emergency was sent home with nothing. The next day, she had an ovarian cyst burst. The doctors here knowingly and unknowingly put my family in danger by refusing to conduct further assessment. This could have been so much worse. As someone who has traveled and lived in multiple cities across eastern Canada, this is the worst hospital I have ever been to. I am shocked that their license to practice medicine has not been revoked.
Amazing nurses!!!
I went there to get my swelled feet looked at I sat there for 9 and half hours in a wheelchair with oxygen. Not one nurse came but to check on me had to get a stranger to take me to the washroom I finally gave up and left It was not good and very embarrassing they are very ignorant and rude. I Do Not Recommend For Any One I wouldn’t take my pets there
Pleasant and helpful staff from the front door security/ greeters who are kind to the awesome nurses and doctors who are the simple the best, despite the long wait times, bring a book, this was for a scheduled appointment @ the falls hospital.
It's good hospital . Friendly staff .
Pathetic !!!!! Nurses lost my husbands shirt , didn't show any concern about him walking out of the hospital without a shirt , covered in gashes all over his upper body. Didn't have a pillow to offer him while he stayed overnight. And didn't offer any help when he was about to leave . This hospital should have been shut down years ago ! Nurses are pathetic and rude .
If I could give it a ZERO, I would. My 85 year old father fainted on Easter (2021) & went to the ED. They were given his full history of stroke and severe aortic stenosis. They ran some tests and was sent home with a "you're fine. everything looks good, follow up with your doctor". They did NOT send his family doctor all the test results (heart test results were missing). By happenstance, my dad had his an annual appointment booked with his cardiologist for a routine check up and his cardiologist found he needs his aortic valve replaced. Not a word of heed or warning from the GNGH about their findings. We call Katie in Patient Relations and she's more interested in defending the hospital 'process' than she is in finding out how she can work to fix the problems and holes in the process and make things better God forbid, they IMPROVE the process. Frankly, I would not go this this hospital EVER. I have advised my parents that they're to get to St. Catherines General or Hamilton at all costs in the future. If you care about your health, DO NOT TRUST GNGH. They care more about protecting their precious jobs and processes than they do their patients.
Recently my grandmother suffered a stroke. Although she survived the ordeal, this hospital left a rather unpleasant taste in my mouth. The staff couldn't (or wouldn't ) answer our questions regarding her care nor would they inform us of any further testing they were conducting. They wouldn't even answer her questions regarding her own health. Evening staff made her feel like an inconvenience for asking for assistance going to the bathroom. Upon her return home, she discovered that the staff had left the i.v. hook up in her arm. I am disappointed with the level of care. I felt as though my grandmother had no merit in the eyes of these people. I hope no one else has this experience there.
Thank you Dr. Hanmiah, Nurse Ashley and staff. You were professional and very caring. Was taken to Emerg Monday Feb 25 2019.
If there is a service related complain, it should be reported to the supervisory level of that person who caused issue. Otherwise there won't be any improvement.
Never going to this place again..the new st catharines hospital is a short drive away.. the staff at the niagara site seems to be ignorant as hell ...I was worst off when I left
As far a going to a hospital goes, this was pretty painless. All the staff that I meet were friendly and helpful.
NO maternity, 1hr and 30mins wait for transfer to St. Catharines only to still beat the ambulance there. Also, be EXTREMELY repetitive about your allergies to medications as they will not hesitate to run on auto-pilot and accidentally kill you due to their inability to listen or read.
One of the worst hospitals in the niagara region. They need better doctors and more staff to take care of patients.
I'm a student and I was having severe kidney pain following a recent uti last night and the few days before. I finially was able to get the bus there which took over an hour while in 7-10 out of 10 pain. Once I got there the dr didn't listen to what I had to say at all(I saw him for 3 moments at 8:30 pm), and once I made a big enough scene cryin in severe pain in the lobby I figured out a way to walk over to the desk and complain that I was sitting in the worst pain I've felt in my 18 years as they blew me off and gave me a Quieter place to sit. Anyways I feel so neglected after going there the store Discharged me and I didn't know. I was there from 7:30 to around 11:30 last night and I will never go there again I'd ether die if I had a life threatening emerg than go there becuase they're useless and I feel abused and in so much More pain
Wait time is ridiculous and the staff doesn’t know what’s going on at all. We waited for 4.5+ hours
Friendly ,professional ,mindful personnel with bottomless patience . Almost a pleasure to be in the hospital. You'll show your appreciation if you bring a cup of coffee or a box of donuts for your next visit there- those guys save our lives yet don't own a coffee maker.
Been here since 3:30pm with a major stomach issue and now 6pm and I have watched people just come in and almost immediately get taken in and then I said something and they said there cases were more urgent than mine!!!!!!! A guy with a bump on his elbow gets seen before me and came in an hour and a half after me! This is disgusting how can this be fixed?
I had an MRI done there as well, over 2 weeks ago. My family doctor has yet to receive the results. Office has tried several times calling but to no avail, simply told they haven't been read yet. Pretty poor when a patient is waiting for course of treatment.
Lady at registration absolutely terrible
One of the worse health care system I ever encounter. I broke my hand once and was waiting to see a doctor and stay for 7 hrs. I came to hospital today for damage on my knee which had a surgery on few years back and when I asked if I can have an Advil Dillon one of the nurse response was I have only been been here for 1 hour and they can not give me an Advil till the doctor see me. Yet all the sudden without seeing the doctor they were able to give 2 Advils!! The over weighted lady at the nurse desk in emergency was extremely rude and disrespectful when I asked get what her name was she refuse to identify herself !! Is this legal? When I inform her I would like to discuss that with her superior she find that treating ? Why is it she cant do a proper job as a health care professional that she feel treating by her nasty and disrespectful attitude? Her last respond was if I don't like it I can leave?!?! Do we have the female version of trump here?? This health care system and the health care professional employed there that I encounter have been by far the wrost health care system I ever encounter.
Next time I will travel to St. Catherines when I need a hospital, Niagara Falls is not the hospital for me, I found medical staff very rude!!
I had a fantastic experience with the emergency department on July 11/12 2015. They were all friendly and helpful from the triage nurse to the admin staff to the x-ray tech to the doctor on duty (who was the only one there that night and was working very hard!)
My girlfriend went to this hospital and it was a complete waste of time. She was told the wait would be 2 hours. After nearly 4 hours she finally saw a doctor who sent her away because he didn't know what CO2 poisoning was. This place is unorganized and the doctor's are uneducated.
Took 10 hours to see one doctor. We kept getting transferred all over the hospital with no help and no concern for our issue. Rude staff, no consideration of time.
GNGH has to be the WORST hospital around. Doctors and nurses are rude and know hardly anything in their own field. I went last week, I knew my collarbone was broke. They took ONE x ray and said I was fine, a few days later I’m screaming in pain, so I went to Port hospital to find out that it’s completely cracked. GNGH has to be shut down or it should actually have staff that has gone to school. I bet a lot of the people that die in there, is bcs they just simply don’t care to try.
Extremely slow
You never know who you're going to get on the other side of the emergency room doors. This is the worst feeling. My family and other locals have purposefully avoided the emergency room here due to the low-quality care. The last time we were there, we have witnessed someone have a seizure on the hospital floor. We banged on the glass for a nurse. Three of them were sitting there chatting to one another paying no attention to the person seizing on the floor. In the past, it's hit or miss. Sometimes they have really caring staff on-hand. Then, other times, there's clear disregard for College guidelines and the Niagara Hospital's own code of conduct.
Terrible. Security guard scolded my friend for not checking in because he was being ill in the bathroom. She told me he needed to sign in first and handed me a bag for sickness. Next time I shall have him sit with his pants down with a bag on his a@# so he can properly sign in...not impressed.
A 98 year old friend was brought in by ambulance. The emergency staff was amazing even though it was insanely busy there. Everyone I had contact with was very helpful. The nurse on duty was attentive and compassionate. She treated her patients with care and concern while giving them the dignity they need. I was so impressed by this young health care professional. I’m not sure of her name, I think it begins with Dom. I must also mention the Doctor. He too was exceptional. These hard working diligent care givers deserve our respect and gratitude. Kudos to GNGH.
Excellent service, all docs and nurses are nice and professional . my son was sick at 9PM and feeling strong pain in his belly area。 It took couple of hours to complete all the examination (which was acceptable, no complain) and it was turned out the pain was caused by constipation.
Terrible people skills and missed a lot that other hospitals caught. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE
What a terribly horrible hospital think I'd rather choke on a Lego block then go back there Service horrible Care horrible Wait times atrocious Was parked for 5 minutes it emergency parking had to run in came out to a 50 parking ticket
Don't recommending going to this hospital at all unfortunately. I am a preschool teacher and a child that attends the facility I work at fractured his shin at the age of two. He fell and has been in ALOT of pain and is not walking. He was taken to this hospital and the doctor/nurse gave him an X-Ray and the results weren't clear.. they only said "he was fine" ..and got comfirmed it was okay to go home to no treatment. No medicine/prescriptions/help or anything.. A few days later the poor boy was still in unbearable pain so he was taken to the McMaster hospital..THAT hospital immediately noticed his leg/shin was in pain and something was wrong, so they gave him an X-ray and it came back that he fractured his shin/leg. The poor boy was told nothing was wrong with it by those uneducated nurses/doctors at the Niagara hosptial and it is Very scary and concerning how they gave false information over an X-ray..I don't want to imagine what else those doctors/nurses have given out falsely to other individuals.. Anyways..stay away from this hospital if possible because this is only one "horrifying" experience I have had at this hospital.
This hospital did all they could for my Dad, but unfornately he passed away, but as busy and overworked as the staff is, they kept him comfortable. Very busy place! They said that a new hospital that would be much bigger, on Biggar Rd soon with a much larger stroke centre. It is definitely needed! Thank you again, all staff at GNGH!!!
very long wait to see doctor don't recommend this hospital to nobody .for being a city of a pop. 88 000 plus and the amount of taxes we pay .you think we would have a better hospital with better service
While visiting Niagara on vacation from Halifax my husband was taken to emergency then ICU then regular ward. He spent 6 days in hospital in 7 different beds. All the doctors were great and nurses were amazing. We both cannot thank you enough for the quality of care you gave. You all do amazing work and are so busy but that does not affect the quality of care and with a smile of your faces. You made a difficult situation so much better. Thanks very much and keep up the great work, Niagara are lucky to have you all. Sincerely Ted & Debbie -Halifax
Never come here I have been waiting 3 hours to see a Doctor in the emergency room. The nurses are lazy and inattentive. You are better off getting pharmaceutical drugs from the homeless guy outside.
Shut this place down immediately.
My grandma has been on the Trillium floor for over 3 weeks now. We have family there constantly and we have only met our doctor once. No new treatment or treatment plans have been in place nor has a family meeting to discuss one. As a current paramedic and nurse, and above all, this being my grandmother, this is very upsetting and awful patient care. I know the staff is busy with other patients but this is getting ridiculous.
The waiting room set up is the absolute dumbest thing I've ever seen in my life. I understand we're still dealing with Covid however there were 25 seats in the entire waiting room. Expected to stand there and wait for 6+ hours is a absurd. Is this even allowed? My kid came by ambulance from school and we were told to sit- well stand in this case- in the waiting room for 6 hours. If you're lucky maybe you can find an empty chair or find a comfy spot on the concrete floor. What an absolute disgrace of a hospital. Save yourself a back ache and go anywhere but here.
Waiting times totally arbitrary. Had seen a doctor already I was just here for a CT scan, took like 10 hours. Terribly disorganized.
Girlfriend is 25 weeks pregnant and fell while walking outside. We went directly to the hospital to make sure the baby was okay and check out her knee. The hospital refused to check on her to make sure she was okay. Spoke to the triage nurse, the screeners, everyone and they refused to even check her out. These hospitals should be ashamed of themselves. The hospital here in Niagara neglect the duties for patients. Many patients have died because of this from the 21 year old in St.Cathariens to the guy who jump of the bridge in St. Kitts. All of this and they can't get it.
A big shout out to the hospital for amazing work Yes I know the wait times are unbelievable yes I know it’s very stressful but think how stressful it is for the nurses and doctors Yesterday I was there for over five hours ended up having to have minor surgery the whole staff was amazing and caring I like to have a big shout out to Dr. G for his compassion and caring and all his hard work
This is and has been a poorly run hospital for a long time. I’m sitting in the waiting room and people are misinforming me and not informing me, left right and centre. Unfortunately, I chose to come here because it had a shorter waiting time. However, I’m having to wait longer due to the lack of organization. Next time I’ll take my chances with a better run hospital, even if it’s a longer wait. Get your act together. No one wants to be here and deal with this. The lack of organization here is wrong!!!!
I was brought in by ambulance to the emergency for having a severe attack. I have quite a few underlying conditions in which the paramedics were more worried then the emergency staff seeing what state I was in. I felt 8 was gonna die right there in my bathroom. I suffer from intracranial hypertension, diabetes, borderline kidney failure, gastroparesis and more. I also suffer severe panic attacks and severe anxiety and PTSD. Im extremely scared for my health but the emergency staff although they did blood work and ultrasound and xrays and told me I was fine. I was not fine and I knew it. Being on odsp and having no friends and family here and not having a vehicle and no one to rely on they were actually nice enough to supply me with a taxi voucher. I knew I wasn't ready to go home even though they said I was. Just to go home and ending up in the emerge by the same paramedics the next day. This time they told me they were getting a room ready for me where I'll be staying a while. I was thinking they'd finally keep me and monitor me. I started to feel some sort of relief. The doctor kicked me out my room and told me I was being discharged. Knowing the same symptoms I was feeling were also covid symptoms as the paramedics have stated. So more bloodwork, ultrasound, ECG, xrays, pee test and then told.me they found my white blood cells are a little high which means its trying to fight an infection somewhere. I was feeling major discomfort in my abdomen which they later mentioned my pancreas was a little inflamed but did nothing about it. All they gave me was gravel and fluids in the IV and 2 small tablets of adventure. I asked for a second opinion.another doctor came and gave me delaudid through the I.V and prescribed me morphine which I don't know why I kept telling them I wasn't in pain. They said I was fine to go home. I asked them for a cab voucher to get home they told me they stopped giving them about a year ago after me telling them I had gotten one the day prior. So I was kicked out in the cold late at night to hitch hike my way home by a total stranger. Lucky I haven't gotten kidnapped or ended up dead with all these crazy people acting out during this pandemic. I felt like I was treated like some idiot or something. I still don't feel fine and was about to go back again today. But how are they really gonna help me? THEY WONT! AND THEY'RE EXTREMELY UNCENETARY IN THAT HOSPITAL. TYE NURSE SAID SHE WAS GONNA SWAB ME FOR COVID AND NEVER DID! I FORGOT TO ASK YESTERDAY BEFORE I LEFT. THEY NEED TO DO THEIR JOB AND SHOW PASSION AND CARE TOWARDS PATIENTS. NOT TREAT PATIENTS LIKE WE DON'T MATTER! SO MUCH CARELESSNESS! THEY DO AS THEY PLEASE!
I was admitted to GNGH on the 4 th of July. I was in for 2 2/2 weeks. The care and kindness I recieved from all levels of staff was exemplary. They are very short staffed due to COVID., there were nurses working 50+ hours a week. They all without exception maintained a level of care under challenging circumstances that was terrific. I had my birthday during my stay and they went out of there way to make it special. This is an aging building, the rooms are tiny the bathrooms are minuscule. This is an other challenge that the staff have to cope with. Thanks to all the staff from the cleaners to the nurses for all your kindness. One thing and this is not a reflection on GNGH but the food is awful. The powers that be for the Niagara Health System need to come for lunch some day....... see what they think.
Worst hospital around.
Worst experience please don’t waste your time Here
The staff and nurses for my procedure in the Endo scope lab are amazing so proficient and professional. Thanks so much.
Horrible wait time. We were on vacation, and the people there are rude, no concentration that people are waiting. Was told 3 hour wait, we waiting 8 hours for them to only tell us my daughter needed an x-ray for a possible broken x-ray, then waited another 1 hour to see the doctor to rule it a non fracture, when actually there was an alignment problem with the tib/fib. Thank God I have access to health care back in the USA. Thank God I was able to have my daughter treated by her orthopedic doctor who had to place her in a cast for 3 weeks for proper healing and alignment. The ER is more like a doctors office then an ER, and those who needed to be seen for chest pain, or lacerations, ended up leaving due to the wait time of 5 hours that they had waited to be seen. Next time I will make sure to do the drive over the bridge and back to USA for treatment.
Highly advise against seeking urgent medical care at this hospital. Went on a trip to Niagara and my 9 month old suddenly had a fever, we went to emergency and although the triage nurse and check in staff were polite… the rest of the staff and nurses were awful. The triage staff advised us that their slowest doctor was working and it would be a very long wait as she doesn’t prioritize children - verbatim. Infants have no priority and Dr.Graystone along with the nurses on shift all lack empathy and urgency. They listened to an infant cry in pain for 3 hours before providing any assistance, the doctor said she “thinks” he had a respiratory tract infection but wanted us to get “a second opinion” and also “wanted his fever to progressively increase” before prescribing antibiotics. The doctor then disappeared for 25 minutes and when I confronted the nurses about their lack of urgency, they threatened to call security. Do not be in the medical field if you cannot show care and empathy to patients, especially infants. The next 12 hours his fever progressed so quickly and high, we visited a doctor closer to home who was shocked our son wasn’t already prescribed antibiotics due to his infection and symptoms worsening. Once again, do not visit this hospital especially with infants or children.
This place is very disappointing, sat in waiting room for 6 hrs just to go in and get some awful blood work done , twice I've gone there and got painful blood work done , lastnight I was there and immediately after I got blood work I had marks from it , leading into bruising the next morning , got sent home . Before I left they booked me ultrasound for the next morning , I couldn't make it so I calle the number and ext on the paper given to me and the lady on the other end just blew my mind I cannot believe someone from the health system could be so rude and basically refuse to help me . Blew my mind , forever sticking to ST CATHERINES GENERAL I suggest that to others also .
I went to the ER earlier this week after my heart started to beat uncontrollably. I was disoriented and very scared and confused. Upon arriving I walked into the triage area to be greeted by the biggest b#$%h I have ever met in my life. I was scared for my life and this women treated me so very poorly and rudely I almost thought I had to be hallucinating as there was no way a Nurse could be so nasty. I am still in disbelief that someone in health care could be so completely unsympathetic and nasty to individuals who are coming to a place because they are in fear for their lifes and are looking for a compassionate environment. I truly hope that this women hasn't treated anyone else this way. I will head to St Catherine's if I ever need treatment agian
Horrible hospital. Wait times are even worse than their emerg care. Pretty sure these people working here only care about the money in their pockets. They are NOT saving lives. I almost died two winters ago due to their neglect. Just recently tried to get help for my heart again and was told my pain was just "anxiety" and the charts read "perfect" If you're low income, or white, or redcarded as a "user", there will also be no assistance for you as they want you to die off. Don't get me wrong there are SOME good people there but the overall experience, and care within the building is horrific.
The worst phone call experience I ever had in my life. I can't believe they still hire people like this, yelling you at the phone.
Amazing care!! My husband's situation was assessed and addressed within an hour. Brian, the RN that took care of him was compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions and we left feeling totally satisfied and pleased with our decision to go to Greater Niagara General. Thank you!
Horrible bed side manner, on the part of the er triage night nurse. She had no idea how to handle triage for a child, and was disgustingly rough with my 4yr old daughter! Instead of being attentive to my 4yr olds' anxiety, she instead decided to have this "knock it off" type attitude. She literally held my daughters nose shut tight, so she could check her throat. They get 1 star, since she gave me the best advice possible... To wait until the AM to cross the border, so, I wouldn't be stuck with a big bill. To be honest, If she had done a better job with making my daughter feel safe.. I don't care what the bill would have been as long as my daughter got the proper care she needed!
Worst hospital I've ever been. I got there with my 6 months old baby who was sick with fever, vomiting and diarrhea. They even asked about my baby's health. They sent me outside with a -2 Celsius plus raining because it was full( thats what they said) I've waited for 45 minutes and nobody came to check on us. A lady from inside came out and let me stay inside while she waited outside. It was ridiculous been so unsafe in the place where you supposed to be safe and cared. After waiting 1 hour inside I asked another lady who was with his son crying without stop how long was she waiting to be attended she said 4 hours. That's when I decided to leave. I had to treat my son from home????????
I was totally discussted at today's visit with my aged mother, the washroom in the ER waiting area my mother was going to use had large back packs with clothes and stuff hanging out and a syringe on the floor like someone was living in there, and no one was around. Turns out it was the two crackhead patients. Totally discussting will never go back
Horrible staff rude and disrespectful care more about money than the patient who was having chest pain i wish i could give a zero
Great help at ER, and again at clinical visits from doctors and staff. All were friendly and professional. Doctors Graystone and Huq went the extra mile, taking time to reexaminine and, having x-rays repeated to ensure bone was properly set. All this despite their busy and demanding schedule. Thanks very much to you and staff!
I've been waiting in the emergency room for over nine hours and still have not been treated.
My dad was brought here over the Christmas holidays. Was seen quickly and all the staff ensured he was well taken of. Friendly staff who answered questions in a timely manner. Tim Horton’s here has nutritious snacks and the gift shop had magazines to help me while visiting.
I've been in and out of this hospital but our experience today gives me a reason to say something. My partner had a biopsy procedure today, these ladies, nurses especially Danielle and doctors in this wing was so nice, caring and attentive. I just want to say thank you and keep it up!!! God bless.
My wife had to have surgery on her wrist on Sept 12, 2018 due to a fracture. From the moment we walked into the hospital we were treated with the upmost respect, courtesy and compassion from everyone we interacted with starting from the girl we registered with to all the nurses in the pre-op and post-op departments as well as the surgery staff themselves. People must understand that you must give respect in order to get respect and they are people too who are under a great deal of stress. I also received a phone call immediately after the surgery by doctor Bristow himself who brought me up to speed regarding the surgery outcome and when I could expect my wife to be ready to take home, very professional and courteous on all levels. Speak to them calmly and politely and you will see the different attitude you will receive as nobody likes to be talked down to and disrespected in any way at any time. My hats off to you all for the great job that you do every day and keep up the great work!
Disgustingly rude!
Was in there first thing in the morning and sat there for over 5 hours with the estimated 1hour wait time and 2 other people in the waiting area. The doctors then sent us back and forth for hours. Really not impressed with the care received.
Honestly heard good things from people in the community. Spoke with Tela Health Ontario who said go to your nearest ER. Entered at 8pm now its approx 2am and still not seen and their response there are other people first. How does it take this long to even talk to somone! Do they not care about anyone well being Saw a male convulsing in the waiting room and staff just watched till he stopped didn't offer aid or assistance and just appeared to hope it stopped. Feels like they want us to just leave and not get any care!
WON'T ALLOW ME TO GO IN WITH MY WIFE FOR HER ULTRASOUND TO SEE HOW WELL OUR CHILD IS DOING. VERY FRUSTRATING. WITH THE PROVINCES OPENING UP, THEY REMAIN TO LIVE UNDER A ROCK. NO CONSIDERATION AT ALL.
So i want to the hospital and a mans face started turn ing blue and the wife yelled help 3 times and . secerity gard said can i get u a weel chair and went back and said i tryed to say a code white on my radio and i said that i worked at st cathirnes hosptial and there you would be fired as soon as he hurd what happen and u dont just try you espplaly should just do it do your job or get a new one like people are dieing like rapid fire cayse of your guys stupidy like really smarting up like serisley
It was the worst experience I ever had in an emergency room. I arrived after a fall with a ankle fracture and in excruciating pain. It took 50 minutes to be registered. It took 3 hours, to have X-ray done and another hour to be seen by a doctor. The triage was empty. No patients but myself. I was screaming with pain and nobody cared. They were just chatting and ignoring me. I told them that even a dog will be treated with more mercy than a person in so much pain. They did not care. These people shouldn’t work in a hospital. They are a disgrace for the health system.
Called the booking department and the lady who answered the phone was not pleasant at all. I was calling to make sure I hadn't missed the appointment and she acted like I was bothering her... So that being said I will travel now and go to the Firestone Clinic at St Joseph's hospital!! Niagara region resident ☹
Good example of socialized healthcare.
Helpful and happy.I wasn’t nervous about my minor surgery,I was concerned about being on time and knowing where to go.all I can say is the minute I walked in I was met at the door basically and told where to go.the nurses where great as well as the doctor.all in all very positive experience.thank you ????
Freaking rediculous. Have been waiting with my 9 years old son who fell down from the swing and has both arms swollen for 3.5 hours already.
I had to take my 4 year old in at 11pm on CHRISTMAS Day. she woke up with a 104 fever and and was incoherent. The pregnant triage nurse seemed like she didn't want to be there at all, but I could relate. The nurse that actually helped in treating my daughter was so wonderful and caring, truly a lovely person. The doctor was knowledgeable and pleasant.
my husband’s hand kept on bleeding and staff dint care they just asked us to wait until our turn.. it wasnt priority basis at all .. they dont even care if u pass out there .. we waited for 3 hours .. rediculous experience
(Translated) The service in this hospital is very poor, especially the nurse in the emergency room treats the patient like a beast instead of a human. Blood was spilled when my wife pulled out her needle. She not only apologized but also blamed us for soiling the environment. . There is also a male nurse with a very bad attitude. His speed is too fast. My wife feels uncomfortable. After complaining to him, he still complains, saying that he has worked for more than ten years. What is the working attitude? too terrifying!
Hate to go but happy to have it there. The staff work hard and do their best with the socialized mess they're expected to treat people with.
some of the staff is very unprofessional and the hospital is disgusting, my family member is currently in a room that is so damp it has sweat running down the walls and what looks like may be mold on the wall aswell....the light over the bed does not turn off ,so they have to try and sleep with a bright light in there face. We've been trying to talk to the higher ups ,but keep getting the run around. Time to take it to another level i think. My family member is VERY sick and does not deserve to be treated like this....
Good nursing staff, but the hospital is dirty.
If I could give it no stars I would. I came in there at 4:30am at 5 months pregnant in labor. NO ONE WAS IN SIGHT. My husband had to get a security person to go find someone. I ended up giving birth to my son who passed away right in the emerg triage area while waiting for help. Worst experience of my life and so so traumatizing after 7 years I still refused to step foot in the place. I hate it years
My wife had some spotting and we went here by ambulance. 5 hrs later. Nothing has been done! The worst hospital in the country that I've been in!
5 Starts would be for Margaret at emerg. 1 star down for the sloppy and rough old brit anesthetics guy.
Very bad for you when you are in a rush
Nice and very efficient, MRI person was very nice and warm. Much help from all staff just to locate where I was to be for MRI. Thank You very much.
Worse hospital horrible staff no one know what's going on. Went to emergency was put in different area called by emergency staff. Apparently they forgot they called me and pit me in different area for testing and kept calling me in the waiting room for other tests The miscommunication here is ridiculous the lack of support care or even simple memory is sickening. I will never come back here broken bone i don't care drive to welland stcathrines ANYWHERE but THIS HORRIBLE PLACE
I witnessed last night someone crying for help in the emergency room at Niagara General for over 2 hours. Despite pleas to the triage nurse for someone to help, no one provided any accommodation. This person suffers from mild to severe chronic pain and fibromyalgia, and could not stay seated in the chair without feeling electricity shoot through her body. I initially brought her in to see a doctor after experiencing a loss of feeling in her left arm, chest pains, head pains, and back pains. Let me be clear in stating that I had never seen her in so much pain before. Despite the seriousness of the condition, no medical treatment ever came and we were refused medical service. After two hours of waiting, I was bullied into signing a sheet in order to get her home somewhere where she was comfortable. She could barely stand and collapsed at the admin desk in the emergency room. I witnessed nurses step over her to make chit-chat and do admin. I witnessed at least a half dozen nurses standing around and assisting no one while this person lay crying in front of the desk in so much pain that she could not stand – and still a doctor would not see her. I am ashamed by the treatment we received at this hospital which was not “high quality, safe, and evidenced-based”. I don’t know how many different ways a person can ask and beg for help. Instead of providing medical advice or treatment, they let her walk out into the cold, without transportation, and with thoughts of dying and suicide. I am immensely disgusted by the staff, enraged by the lack of empathy for someone who required medical assistance, and let down by the lack of professionalism of the employees.
Great service overall
A star was born here. (I’m the ⭐️)
Every nurse and doctor I came in contact with was so miserable, they make you feel stupid for even being there. They did X-rays on my ankle then Told me my ankle wasnt broken, called 4 days later to tell me it WAS broken and to go back to the hospital in my home town. Asked them to send the X-ray report so the doctor here could look at it, made me send a formal request by fax which is fine so I did. Never botherd to send the report so I had to sit for hours waiting to get new X-rays in my home town. Take the bad reviews as a sign.... I should have.
Our 6 year old daughter had a dental surgery at Greater Niagara Hospital. All of the nurses were so nice to my daughter making her feel at ease in what was a scary experience for her. We appreciate all the care they showed her!
Disappointed poor quality work ethics
Interesting experience. Register @ front was rude from the moment I sat down. The medical staff that passed by could not "bother" themselves with saying hello - the maintenance staff did. And the technician who "served" me had less personality than a wet sponge & treated the job like a kid would the chore of taking out the garbage.
All good experience except for one night triage nurse. It is common for ER people to come across countless number of people crying in pain and agony and obviously we can not expect empathy or excessive sympathy but being rude to a person literally almost passing out of renal colic is something ruined my otherwise comforting experience in the Hospital ER. and to add to my surprise "lumbar means back" for her as she argued after I told I had pain abdomen in right lumbar region. Considering the experience she seemed to have it was disappointing she sounded she wasn't even aware there are 9 anatomical regions of abdomen including right and left lumbar regions. Apart from the triage part, I didn't mind at all waiting for almost an hour crying in ER because I realize how overburdened ER staff are but everyone else including nurses inside, the doctor, the registration staff and even the security girl were nice and polite. If any hospital staff reads these reviews I would request them to ask people to behave at least normal if not sympathetic. Rudeness towards any ailing person is evil I would say.
The emerg nurses I came in contact with are terrible. The doctor prescribed me medication that I actually needed and she refused to give me it. She also unplugged the buzzer from the wall. They also talk badly about you/make fun of you right outside your room. I've never been so disgusted. The same nurse that refused to give me my meds also jabbed a needle into my stomach without saying anything and the next day I had a bruise. When I was removed from emerg 5 stars. Very nice nurses and actually help you, don't make you feel worse than you already do.
Longgggg wait time. Staff are rude. Avoid going here at all costs. It's worth it to try and hold out on the pain and drive or ask the ambulance to take you to another hospital besides this one. My friend passed out at a restaurant and the ambulance to him to thus hospital. We waited for too long to see the doctor until my friend still in pain couldn't take it anymore and hopped out of the hospital bed and told me let's go. We left hospital and went somewhere else.
Never go there. Go to St Catharines. If i could give zero stars i would.
Had a great experience in the ER yesterday. Took my 11 month old son in after 2 days of increasingly high fever. All the staff were helpful and compassionate. Thank you to all of you in the ER who helped my son and I. We truly appreciate it!
I went here as I needed stitches for a pretty deep cut. Was told I would not need to come back as dissolvable stitches were put in and would take 7-10 days to dissolve. 2.5 weeks had gone by and they didn't budge, so I went to a walk in clinic and they removed the fully intact stitches and told me there's no way they were dissolvable. Had a significant amount of scar tissue form around the stitches bc they were left in longer than they should've been. I feel like this is something so basic and if I had something more serious there's no way I'd go here.
Screening staff, the triage nurse and all the doctors and nurses that helped with my son were very kind
My daughter was taken to this hospital by ambulance July 31st 2017at 2pm. She almost passed out and was turning white and had blue lips and was complain of stomach pains. We waited over 5HRS to see a doctor. People came and went some had scrapes and bruises. At about 730pm we seen a doctor. The doctor looked at her and wanted to run test which we said ok. Blood and some other test where done. Which where very quick. Once all the test where done we where out of there at 11pm. Doctors where very good and pleasant to talk to but the wait time was unacceptable 9.5HRS IN TOTAL to find out they couldn't tell us anything.
The most pathetic hospital emergency staff ever walk in with a doctor's note for an emergency CT scan wait three and a half hours and told her the next person in line just to find out she calls him for more people and you have a doctor's note saying that you need an emergency CT scan three hours and no service pathetic
I was brought to the emergency after displaying early symptoms of a possible stroke. I was seen immediately, and after determining that I was stable, was sent to the first of many tests. Test results came back quickly and were quickly acted on. Staff, nurses, porters, doctors and technicians, were without exception helpful, calm and reassuring, and above all seemed eminently competent. Nurses, in fact all the staff, answered my questions without "sugar coating" the facts. All were friendly and showed genuine compassion and concern for me. I stayed under close observation for 2 days. When I was deemed ready to go, the staff helped me contact my family and called me at home, to make sure I had arrived safely. Later I was contacted for follow-up observations. Obviously, going to an emergency room is never a particularly pleasant experience, and less urgent cases might have to wait longer than life threatening emergencies, given the cuts that have affected the health system, what I saw was a competent and appropriate response. It would be churlish to complain of boring food and noisy sleeping conditions in an emergency ward, so I wont. They are a by-product of the excellent care I received.
Niagara Health System is a textbook example of the failings by the Canadian healthcare system. It begs the question of whether or not our healthcare system is in fact superior to that of the United States. People die on the NHS' watch...what good is a fancy building with no doctors or beds to cater to those in need...I know health care is a tricky thing, but something has to be done
Had a very positive experience with my pre-surgery appointments. ECG, Blood work and xray. Staff was friendly, very efficient, and helpful. Made me feel comfortable and helped ease my anxiety.
I have had 3 surgeries within the past two years at the GNGH hospital with the most recent being a knee replacement. I have to say the surgical unit and staff was outstanding and the nurses on the Brock unit were outstanding as well. Also the service with xray, ultrasound etc. are also great. My issues are with the emergency department. I am so terrified of getting sick and having to go to the emergency it brings me actually to tears and have panic attacks. My experiences with the emergency were awful. The doctors and nurses horrible. I guess there may be some that are okay but my experiences and my family's experiences have not been so good. Tirage are good. No issues with them. I just don't understand why the emergency is so terrible. I would have given 5 stars for my surgeries but the 1 star for my emergency visits bring it down to 3.
I went to get the novesure today but something broke so they good not do the surgery .????
