Treated very well and kindly.

I'm currently on vacation (from Ontario), and had terrible bowel spasms. In desperation, I sought out local help. The wait was terrible and terrifying - we got to Emergency for 1 AM and I was discharged by 10 am. My anxiety skyrocketed. The nurse who took me in was very professional. He was kind, checked my vitals, listened patiently then sent me to the waiting room. After waiting awhile, an older lady brought ne to a desk to draw my blood. I had to warn her that I was a fainter and needed to lie down. This cost me quite some time; there was one doctor on staff and he was distracted. After noticing me still waiting after an hour, she brought me to a bed finally. She was good, did her work swiftly and painlessly. After this, my significant other and myself spent many hours with other increasingly impatient patrons waiting to see the doctor. A nurse took me in to check over my symptoms and write down everything. She warned me thst there was only one doctor. I nodded, knowing how long Ontario wait times can be. She then advised me to take a urine test so that I could cover all basis. The wait times here are worse than Ontario, but realistically better. They tested everyone who came in! That doctor was rarely around us, though, seemingly overwhelmed. Finally, at 9ish, a new doctor came on the scene to treat us. Some of us had waited over 7 hours. This doctor (Ashma?) was very kind. He checked me throughly and ordered xrays for my bowels. He honestly seemed to care. But he kept forgetting I wasn't local, which I assume makes sense with how busy they are. They test everything. I am impressed. My one nurse, however, seemed overwhelmed and distracted. I think at one point she has forgotten about me. I am not angry or anything, her care was fine when I got her attention again. I was prescribed pain meds and given a sheet to take back with me in Ontario. They suspect a bug but I've been having bowel issues so maybe it's part of that. Either way, my anxiety subsided mostly and I was able to get on with my vacation despite severely lacking sleep. Canadian care needs a revamp everywhere it would seem.

Zero if I could RJH emergency room...a joke!!! Went in seriously sick, no treatment..to be sent home, only to call an ambulance later!! TO TAKE ME TO VGH This RJH is desensitized to patients that are sick, the one nurse with the pink/blue hair was RUDE!!! And a nurse that didn't even treat me, sent me home!!!! Go to VGH... RJH is a hospital for addicts... Two times this has happened.. thank god for the staff at VGH...they are the ones that put your health first!!!!

Trevor Richardson

from my personal experience, they have treated myself and others who i have taken in pretty quickly. every time less than 1 hour. now if course it was dead empty every time, so there was never anyone more urgent needing attention. but remember, see a walk in clinic if it’s not an emergency.

I went blind in one eye because of a long wait in the emergency department

If you or a loved are in need of serious medical attention, do yourself a favour, and get as far away from the RJH, as possible. I find it very difficult to provide details as to why I feel so strongly about this hospital, because my experiences were so stress provoking, and painful, that it's simply , too difficult to write about them. Maybe at some point in the future, I will be able to provide details. I was abused by some of the staff, and by the experience on the whole.. I very nearly, lost my son, because of the egregiously bad treatment that he received. I could have sued the hospital, but I didn't have the emotional energy, to do so, after everything that we endured. If you have a choice, I recommend that you go elsewhere. Canada's healthcare system is in dire need of being revamped. It is horrible, to know that the federal government under Trudeau, has enacted legislation, making it lawful for a doctor to provide "doctor assisted suicide". I think that should not be allowed, especially in a country, where the government has the ultimate power over health care, above and beyond, the doctors! With all of the problems in our health care system, the last thing that we need, is for doctors to be empowered to provide suicide, as a solution!! Cost saving solutions, at their worst! As for RJH, my family has had one too many, bad experiences. Of course, there are some very good, kind, practitioners, but I am sad to say, that the horrible experiences, have outweighed, and more fully, impacted my view of the hospital..

10 Sep since night I felt a strong pain in the back of the neck at the base of the skull. Then became sick head. The pain became stronger and at six o'clock p.m. I went to emergency Royal Jubilee Hospital . There I remained until 11 o'clock p.m. During this time, the pain only intensified the dizziness started. I was getting more difficult to tolerate waiting for medical care. Finally, I asked, how long will I wait for a meeting with the doctor. I was told that for a long time. And I left without receiving aid, in addition to two measurements of blood pressure and pulse. While I was waiting, two times replaced by others waiting to help, was not and those, who brought and who needed extra help, so I appreciate the behavior of staff neglect their duties. If the cause was a stroke, he would have already had irreversible consequences. To my happiness, this time it wasn't a stroke and all went well spent time and nerves. I must say that I had a very different idea about canadian medicine and Your hospital. That's why I decided to write You. Please forgive me for machine translation into English, to which I come running because you became a resident of Canada just two years ago and I'm not sure as your English. Very rude experience in the emergency department lady’s just there to yell at you to sit down in a red chair

I visited my friend who will be long term in the ICU and the nurses on staff were marvelous. They are so empathetic and caring and we are blessed to have them here.

Charles Hervieux

Super friendly staff. Looking out for everyone with 100% attention and focus

Hany Eryan

I like this hospital. I went there three times with my kids for different emergency reasons. waiting time was between 2-4 hours. Service was very good, staff are friendly, and we had very good experience

Sarah-Anne Lake

Staff were very helpful and friendly to my mom while she was there, beds are very uncomfortable though my mom said. Nice little gift shop located in building and other food places such as Tim Hortons, Subway located close by.

Zach J

I'm ever so greatful for the excellent care I recieved. Thank you to all the selfless Doctors and Nurses at Jubilee!

Blake Speed

Have had nothing but bad experiences here, they sterilized me, stole my medicine, list goes on. Got my eye cut out, got shot, they did nothing.

Ted Waring

Incredibly good for your body, mind and soul. Perfect place to understand chronic pain

Waited about 10 hours to see a doctor, and the first doctor I saw was really rude, I don't know what her problem was but it wasn't a nice situation to be in when you are having health problems.

Isabel Mayfield

Worst service at a hospital ever. Both me and my boyfriend have gone in on separate occasions and have had the same experience of nurses and admissions staff providing us false information and denying to provide us with service. Would not recommend going here if you are in need of actual assistance

I hear nothing but horror story, about Royal Jubilee, if your are First Nations! The staff is racist, & uncaring if your not white!

The level of incompetence shown in Clinic 3 was utterly astounding today. The nurse dropped her "sterile" gloves onto the floor and then proceeded to put them on and was about to treat my child's 48hr old wound when I had to ask her to stop, remove the gloves, and find some clean ones. Then I had to further explain her job to her... long story. I'm so disgusted.

Hiker Guy

Had to visit emerge. They were organized, friendly, professional and efficient.

After my mothers visit to this hell hole, I've decided that when I get sick I'll simply kill myself rather than trust these people with my health. The care given here has been very disappointing.

Went to the ER this afternoon at 1, was seen by a Dr before 1:30 and admitted by 2pm! Fast friendly service from everyone, the nicest nurses and security was amazingly helpful. Big thank you to the staff for helping me!

My sister and I went down to the Emergency over the weekend and I am always baffled at how SLOW and rude (most) of the staff are! My sister was literally crying in pain (finding out later, she nearly had kidney failure) and we still waited 4 hours before anyone even gave her a pain killer. She had been to a walk in clinic earlier that day and it was confirmed it was a kidney infection. Meanwhile, the nurses were eating CHEESECAKE and carrying around a bag of popcorn. Another nurse walked in with Tim Hortons. Typical. They made my sister get up and walk over to get blood taken (when she could hardly walk) instead of just bringing the portable station over to her - lazy. When there are 7 people waiting in the Emerg there is NO need for the wait to be 4 + hours. The male nurse we had was WEIRD. No other way to describe him other than a bit off!! He also kept starring at my sister and I's chests. On the up side they gave her a few anti nausea pills and pain killers to take home (which seemed to help tremendously).

Liz Goldstein

I understand that going to the ER means a lot of waiting time. That's one thing. What I can't wrap my head around is how these doctors treat you, and I don't meant to make this about sexism, but every time I've been there the doctors doubt that you experience pain, so they interrogate you like you're 6 years old, only to send you home after and telling you that someone will call you. And especially when you're a woman they don't take your concerns seriously and make you feel like you shouldn't even be there. The nurses are great, honestly. I don't mind waiting, but I do expect adequate treatment and want to be taken seriously. I wouldn't sit there for 5 hours if there was nothing wrong. This needs to change because at some point I will flip. It's condescending.

Went in for for quintuple bypass surgery. Honestly I was worried going in but I have to say they have been amazing. From the orientation before the surgery to the after care surgery I'm receiving now everything was professional and the staff and Dr's are an amazing group. I have alot of recovery over the following months but at least I will have the tools and ability to cope.

The Royal Jubilee Hospital, through its association with the Royal Hospital, is historically the first recorded hospital in the early days of Victoria in the colony of BC. More than 150 years after the original Royal Hospital was commissioned, the 37 acre campus continues to evolve to meet current medical standards and healthcare needs. Some buildings dating back to the 1920s and 1930s are still in use today. The story of the Royal Jubilee Hospital that began with a Parsonage in 1858 is reflected and maintained within the design of the site’s newest building, the Patient Care Centre, adding another chapter to an already rich heritage. Needless to say, it's old

Hip replacement February /2020. Pre and post surgical care was great, all the support staff from the Physio, nurses, x ray techs, to the student nurses were wonderful, great people keep it up . i applaud you all.

I’ve wounded up in the er twice now in a short period of time due to anaphylactic allergy attacks, it’s hard being away from family and not in a good situation health wise. The staff took such good care of me, were reassuring and released me at a very reasonable time to get me home. Albeit swamped and a skeleton crew for periods esp over the holidays the nurses scurried from room to room to help elders unlock iPhones and call loved ones, make sure I was ok or got water if needed and during these times the extra protocols of re-gloving, shields and gowning up through the pandemic are not fun. As someone who has worked in healthcare I try to be understanding but I am still absolutely blown away by the level of care, attentiveness and professionalism. Usually I end a review with “will be back” but I hope not in this case. Thankyou so much to all the drs and nurses working throughout the holidays to keep us healthy.

Despite our gripes about the health care system, the people here have helped so many family members through so many things, the only answer is to give them 5 stars. Yes, emergency can have some waits, yes you might not get a bed on day one - however they take care of what is needed. (only comment is for them not to be so hasty in trying to kick someone out of the wards when they're not quite up to the ability to take care of themselves yet)

Phil Kanczula

Anytime you go to the ER there's going to be a wait. So be prepared to wait. The nurses and doctors here do the best they can. The nurses were respectful and sympathetic with me and my doctor was great. He even told me when he started work the next day as he wanted to see me again himself, rather than me explaining everything to a new doctor. I believe his name was Dr. Jones and I'd like to thank him and the nursing staff for being so great. Only bad thing I can say about this place, is that the parking sucks and is expensive.

Who runs this place? I have been to 3 different hospitals 3 years in a row for the same symptoms. I have never been treated so terribly at any of them as I was treated here. They take you back and fourth from room with a bed to waiting area. 4 times in my case. I was in a wheelchair and they told me to get up and walk to the room as a pose to wheeling me in. Doctor comes out and reads results to you in waiting area with everyone around!? Re-training on bedside manner is desperately needed for the receptionists/nurses. I was offered nothing for nausea even after throwing up. I am just comparing my visit to other hospitals. This visit to Julibilee felt like I was being punked. There was one male nurse. He was nice. Actually offered a blanket and told me to let him know if I needed anything. Unfortunately that was at the end of my visit. In between complaining and gossiping, the female nurses were to busy raising their voices and getting frustrated at those who asked for their wait time. I will go all the way to Langford next time to avoid this nightmare of a hospital.

Steve Z

A far cry from the old days, the receptionist is now also a nurse who checks your blood pressure right there and asks the appropriate pertinent questions BEFORE sending you to the adjacent registration desk to update your personal information. You then follow the world's simplest directions (color dots on floor) to the waiting area with comfortable seats and TV. They do blood work on site; reasonable waiting periods; and yes, you can use cell phones.

nate t (nateball)

any one with a mental health issue that involves pharmacuticals that the drug companies dont make $$$ off, ie, heroin, coke, etc, dont go here unless to be treated like scum and be spit on by the nursing staff, figuratively, is your thing, donng go here

I needed to book an X-ray appointment so I called many hospitals in the area of the the lower mainland. Out of everyone I spoke to, the rudest person I spoke to was from the X-ray department at this hospital. I don’t understand how someone working in a hospital with patients can behave in this way. She refused to explain anything and said “maybe that’s the way it works in Vancouver but not here”. Which is hilarious, are you talking to your daughter or an outpatient? I didn’t have the time of day to be rude back so I simply hung up.

Lovely Walks

Upon arriving to emergency it didn't take me very long to realize that I was obviously in more pain than anyone else within a 50 foot radius. I had just spent 12 hours driving truck with an extreme toothache in need of a desperate root canal, of which I had an appointment booked the following Monday. Now this was a Saturday, so emergency was pretty busy, and so you can imagine, it's saying a lot to say you're in the most pain at busy hour in emergency. Well this didn't seem to matter much as I still had to spend two and a half hours patiently waiting while squeezing my head between my knees praying that someone would notice the intense pain I was in and bump me ahead of them in line. This didn't happen. But that doesn't change that when my name was finally called and my doctor and nurse came to my rescue, they were efficient and compassionate and lept into action as soon as I requested to be froze (with benzocaine not cryogenically), I should mention that the needle used to freeze my face was as big as my index finger and still There is no better feeling I can imagine then the stab and instant freeze of benzocaine or any Cain I guess. Pure Bliss..... and with that my two Angel doctors floated away leaving behind two Tylenol threes which I ate immediately and thank goodness for that because by the time I got home the freezing had worn off and the Tylenol kicked in. Thanks again a million times, you're my heroes.

It's a nece hospital I think.

Absolutely waste of money on the new design of staging people for examination due to emergency. Who thought the seats were what people would want when waiting for 7 hours to see a doctor. Its metal its flat with a flat metal back. I dont know why the staff people in the booths were they sit and work. They cant talk to you. They won't answer question. So they can look over us in case we act out. Why are they there. They could do there job with a wall in front of them away from the waiting room. Once your in the booth it's another marathon of waiting but on a stool which has never screamed comfort for the sick and injured. Once you've complete these and more hurdles you will feel like you made it to the big leagues of baseball. Milk out the wazoo to drink and you get to know the secret food menu. That's what it's for to get to the healing. But damn its a test to proof your true worth and prove your illness to them. Hopefully some of y'all get their. A lot of those dont

We visited this emergency health centre and were shocked to see blood on the entrance to the emergency wArd. Absolutely discusting!! Further more the wait times are in access of 9 hour waits. Which is rediculous we would never recommend this hospital ever!! I'd rather pay privately for my services in vancouver

I had to go to Emergency today! The staff there are very professional yet warm and welcoming! I had Dr. Hayward and what a compassionate, caring physician. He assured me before I was released that every test was perfect. I was treated as a human, not a number! Thank you!

The Worst ! hospital i ever known if u want to die go there ! W O R S T !!! Nurses are so rude !!! I dont even see caring to them esp. all the nurse at emergency !!!!

Kind and helpful staff in all areas. Take good care of patients.

Went in to emerge for chronic pain from a UTI. Now I understand I'm not the most in need of severe Medical Care, but I ended up waiting at this hospital for 6 hours without so much as anything. First off let me say that the staff were all very nice and friendly. But I saw people go back and get tests and come back multiple times, people that came in 3 to 4 hours after me were seen before me. One of which just needed a cast removed, and half the people in the waiting room looked like they just had the flu. I understand wait times and seeing people due to severity... but we ended up leaving because I was sick of waiting longer than 6 hours. Better off at a walk in clinic.

Corinna Carey

My husband went for a CT scan, the staff were friendly and service was fast. Thank you, you are very appreciated!

Nurses are generally friendly (sincerely), until you ask to clarify something and then they become defensive. I tried to keep a calm and relaxed manner when asking questions and was met with quick, sharp answers usually starting with "as you were told". Then, after my partner's surgeries, we never spoke with a doctor and were met with no answer when we asked staff how his two surgeries went. At this moment we don't know if his bone was replaced or not (they said they wouldn't know until they did the surgery) and we'll have to wait a week or two before we'll know. I wasn't told how long to wait before letting him eat or let him take his next dose of narcotics (I wasn't even told the time of his last dose of narcotics), and each time I tried to ask a question about post-operative care, they repeated "it's in the paperwork he'll be sent home with". Yet, I have several questions after reading the brief paperwork, but have no resource to ask (as I was met by a defensive nurse when I had a follow up call). Overall, I felt discouraged from asking any questions, which is in appropriate for someone who needs to be someone's caregiver. I am very thankful for the pharmacists at our pharmacy who were able to aid in my questions related to his narcotics and recommend ways to improve his comfort post-surgery.

To the person complaining about "some nurse" deciding if you can come visit while the 8th floor allowed you - the pandemic has been extremely taxing on our healthcare system. At VIHA, we have had no formal guidance on how to handle visitations, and therefore it's up to the floor management to decide COVID protocols related to visitations. Every floor is different. That floor must have stricter COVID policies. Be happy that your loved one wasn't sick enough that they deemed your visit necessary. RJH is a gorgeous, up-to-date hospital with proficient staff.

Great hospital just not enough Nurses and Dr's to go around...hopefully it will get better as time goes by...

We're new to the city and had to use a walk-in clinic. The doctor there was concerned enough to refer us to the RJH emergency where we were treated very well and seen promptly. Follow up care at the Rapid Assessment and Discharge Unit was excellent. The staff at Medical Imaging where I got a CT scan were also excellent. I feel so lucky to get such good care.

My grandmother was admitted here. They let her go while she was extremely groggy on medication. I talked to her today and can't understand what she's saying because she is still groggy, and they let her go 24 hours ago!! Unbelievable. Terrible terrible hospital.

George Curtis

Excellent nursing staff. Edible food, and if you tire of that, there are both Tim Hortons and Subway to choose from. If you want to be seen quickly, come by ambulance. Doctors are the usual; assortment of really cool and old curmudgeons.

Mike Harutunian

Had the misfortune of getting sick while on vacation, but the care here was absolutely exceptional. The doctors all cared and were very good at what they did, and the nurses were simply spectacular. I go to UCLA for my medical care, and it is rated as one of the best hospitals in the United States. My care here was at least as good as the care I've received at UCLA.

I went into emergency on Jan 4,2022 .The nurse tried to put an IV in my arm shoving a needle carelessly for about 10 times. I screamed and cried with pain and she didn’t bother, nor stop. I asked her to use another arm but she refused. She was too egoistic to find the aforesaid nerve in the same arm, regardless of my pain

Care given by people who are obviously sick and tired of their job. Very uncaring place to be. I don't want a "hotel", just somewhere that cares about the patients that they are treating. No need to be rude and dismissive to stressed out newly diagnosed cancer patient. A small bit of compassion goes a long way.

Brian Koval

Lots of friendly faces here! However, paying for parking at a hospital is a bit insensitive. I know folks that have spent a lot simply visiting loved ones in the hospital, something they couldn't really afford...

Can You Dig It

My 80 year old mother's experience at the Jubilee's Emergency ward, summed up in one sentence: brutal treatment on par with what you would expect to see in the third world. When I complained the manager of the emergency ward - Robyn - is seemingly oblivious as to how to be impartial & fair. As far as I 'm concerned Robyn is a rather corrupt individual who has no interest whatsoever when it comes to treating people fairly. My advice to other people in urgent need of medical attention: find another hospital, any hospital.

Robyn Duffy-Toner

Extremely understaffed and rushed in the emergency center. Depending on the situation the doctor will just try to rush you out as fast as possible. Staff make comments on the patients consistently and are extremely rude. Many aspects of this hospital is absolutely terrible. Although it's an extremely nice looking building outside, what is inside is what matters, and it doesn't cut it.

Richard W.

Royal Jubilee is a General hospital in Victoria. Fully complete hospital that does surgeries. Emergency can get busy with waiting lines. Emergency is based on Triage. Worst cases go first. Staff are professional, but with anybody that gets busy or stressed, they can be direct with people, which sometimes gets translated into rude. I find most hospitals operate pretty much in the same way. This one is no different. There are good doctors here.

Cory Benzo

This hospital is a joke.. There is a lot of very disrespectful staff. I have been refused care and told there was nothing wrong, untill I went back 2 days later in an ambulance half dead from a bad resperitory infection that went septic and almost killed me. Was admitted for 7 days but it was a close call. There is an elderly man who is a physician at the Jubilee and Vic Gen who refuses multiple people care and gives Fulce information. A huge change needs to be done at this hospital! - 5 stars

I was cared for so excellently in this hospital. I am so thankful for all the fantastic doctors, nurses, cafeteria and janitorial staff, etc.! Because of my condition, I had a room to myself which had a bathroom and a great view. Every morning, I put in my order for the food I wanted that day, and it was always brought to me by a very friendly staff member. The room and bathroom were kept very clean by the janitorial staff. In addition, I really appreciated all the snacks that were available at all times out in the hallway. I live over an hour away from this hospital, but whenever I go for care in the future, I will be going to this hospital. For the reason that certain specialists work at this hospital that don't work elsewhere, and it is just amazing in general!

Donna Lemon

Three days before Christmas my husband was admitted to Royal Jubilee Hospital with "minor" chest pains. The next day he had an angiogram procedure with not favourable results. On Christmas Day, the cardiovascular surgeon came to his room and spent over an hour outlining the need for quadruple bypass and the risks he would be undertaking. After deciding to proceed, he underwent a number of tests in preparation for the 4-6 hour operation including x-rays, ultrasounds, various cardio tests and a physical assessment. This was complemented with visits from a cardiologist, endocrinologist, internist and various residents who were co-ordinating their approach to his health care. Most importantly, the one thing that stood out above everything else were the PEOPLE and THE CARE they provided. From the cardiac surgeon who saved his life, the cardiologist who did the diagnosis in emergency, the internists who spent days with him helping him through the process and the endocrinologist who was out walking his dog on a Sunday and came in to see him about the implications of his diabetes on his surgery. All professional and dedicated health care professionals making a difference. The biggest debit of gratitude goes to the nurses, care aids and support staff who every days came to work under difficult conditions and displayed tremendous sense of dedication and empathy with all their patients. The staff at 3 north and 3 South Heart Health were absolutely outstanding. We are forever grateful. The Lemon Family

Truly horrible staffing at The Pain Progam here at Jubilee. I've been on the waitlist for a long time now. Today a man called me from from the Pain Program, asking me if I still wanted to be on the waitlist... yes obviously. Not 10 minutes later a woman called me, asking the same thing. I asked both of them what specific procedures are available at Jubilee as I'm enrolled at Change Pain Clinic in Vancouver and have been undergoing treatments for a year plus. Neither could tell me. Both told me to "read the website" the website says nothing specific only mentions "prescriptions, physical therapy procedures, and psychiatry". When the second women called I read this out to her and she had no answers for me? I'm working with a team of Drs NOW and can use the current treatments to know if any of these will help me when they're available to me.she especially acted like everything was too complicated to explain to me someone who's been sick for almost 2 years and is very hands on with my Drs. Absolutely useless. Neither staff member had any clue what was going on. Super embarrassing.i have 0 and I mean 0 trust in this hospital seeing as they're the ones who misdiagnosed my shingles as "back pain" and I now have PHN, a major disability because of their malpractice, this certainly doesn't make me feel any better about potential treatments at Royal Jubilee.

No map? I can get a map of the mall evertime i drive by one but Can't get a map of the hospital when i visit?

Colin Longpre

The staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital were so caring and helpful. I arrived at the Emergency and they were very quick to make me feel comfortable, they quickly performed the tests that were needed to diagnose my problem. I spent 3 days there and they always made me feel like I was in the best care. Thank you so much.

Lorna

I had a knee replacement surgery at the Jubilee hospital. I want to thank all the staff and Dr. Nelson for such great care. These health care workers are absolutely amazing. Thank you again for the great care I received.

My boyfriend doesn't speak English very well so sometimes you need to repeat, and when he checked in, the nurse seemed very impatient about repeating questions and constantly "urgh" him. I really didn't think it was the right attitude towards a patient from a different country.

I was in emergency, from start to finish, in an hour and twenty minutes, with wonderful staff. I had to go to UMAC a few days later, which was the worst experience ever. I was sent to see a doctor who is not in the field I need. The receptionist staff are extremely rude. For an appointment that should have taken less than TWO hours I have been here for 6 and still waiting

A bit surprised. I have a badly infected hand now being cleaned. While the staff have all been courteous and professional they have Nothing to ease the incredibly intense pain endured while poking and prodding the top of my hand! I'm a grown man and literally had to refuse some treatments purely due to pain that reaches a good 9/10,leaveing me screaming profanities earlier. I asked for gas but only mothers having kids get that. This just seems incredibly silly that such procedures are supposed to be done with nothing but perhaps a weak T3. May as well offer a vitamin. This is negatively impacting my, and likely many many others recovery over something so obviously basic it leaves me wondering why? Seriously considering going ghetto, buying a dozen aerosol whipped creams for some relief. Crazy.

Repo Homes (Jorge Trevino)

Just like the other reviews about the emergency room said. Nobody cares, there's a huge line, you're better off going somewhere else. There's no emergency in the Emergency Room

My husband went there for getting X-ray on Saturday. there was no patient except him. But he had to wait for 20 Minutes because two receptionists were taking about playing piano with watching youtube. and then, finally they realized him, but said there was no paper work from his doctor, so he needed to call them, but the office was closed on Saturday. another 20 mins waiting. and then she said she found the paper :( after him, there was old lady came but needed help to lay down on bed or wheel chair something. but she did help so rough for old lady. We felt so bad for that poor lady! the X ray lady was very nice and kind, but the receptionist, specially asian girl(sorry, don't know her name)needs some study about customer service.

Gordin Warner

An excellent hospital. The nursing staff are first rate. I've spent a lot of time here as a cancer patient. The RJH medical team literally saved my life. The food sucks.

Tony Duke

Terrible emergency room admission process. People packed together for up to eight hours or more. Inability to provide appropriate pain medication for when outpatients are discharged. Directional signs often cause confusion. Charge for parking... people dropping off at emergency frequently ticketed while they drop of a patient with life threatening issue.

Ladan Khaksar

The worst experience in a hospital ever, the check in nurse was so rude and offensive. My husband was crying in his pain and coludn't even sit to explain his problem, and just then she toughly said: "well sit down and be calm, you don't need to perform a show like this to get to the doctor." She made us so disappointed at the very first moments. We waited mor than 6 hours. Most of the nurses were so rude, if you ask any question you should not expect a polite and exact response. I asked one of them that where can I drink some water? And she quickly responded I'm not sure... offf! I never ever recommend this hospital to any one.

Tim Cottrell

Doctors do not talk to each other. They communicate chiefly through notes on the patient's file. As a result I could never find out what was going on, and when two doctors disagreed, I never knew whose opinion was the one that held sway. One doc said I should leave a few days after the surgery, and another was shocked to find I was no longer in hospital! Getting admitted was a whole other level of terrible. I waited 10 hours in emergency (even though they knew I was coming in that day) for a doc (that I had never met before and would never see again) to admit me. What is that all about?!? Why did I have to wait in emergency on a gurney just for some guy to say I could head up to the 7th floor? Why could I not have been sent to the 7th (or anywhere else) to rest in a bed while I waited? The incompetence of the hospital was shocking, especially in stark contrast to the tremendous care I had just received at St. Vincent's hospital in Sydney only 14 hours earlier. Oh, and the food was terrible.

6 out of 5. Why? I got C.A.R.E. and it mean't the world to me. Thank you Jubilee Hospital.

Thomas Clode

I have lost all faith in the medical profession after dealing with this emerge unit.

April Gilliland

This is the only major Hospital in town, but the wait times in the emergency room can be absolutely atrocious. If in need of attention at emergency it can often be better to drive out to Victoria General Hospital. Even with the drive time one often spend less time waiting out there so it ends up being worth it. While the new facilities are beautiful and there are a few places to eat, the emergency room is truly a mess. I know that there are many reasons why they probably can't help this and it's like this across our whole system, but when you are sick or injured and you have to wait 8 hours in a cold hard chair in a waiting area, it really does not help your condition. Most of the staff are very kind and helpful though. There is an on-site pharmacy and imaging services. There are a couple of different towers with patient beds in various wards. Most of the parking is in a car park. The car park is kind of annoying to use if you have a baby stroller as you can only access the elevator through half of the levels and not the in between levels. The car park is a bit of a walk from the hospital too. Look for the old chapel on the property as it is a beautiful place to visit if you are killing time or staying at the hospital. There is also a beautiful garden outside of it.

I was there to receive ER care for myself. I weighed 126 pounds, 5'3 & have neurological issues. I saw a 'security guard' "helping" an older gentleman from the ER to the main sitting area. He had the gentleman, who was not stable on his feet, by the scruff of the next; leading him to his chair by his collar. He wasn't escorting this gentlemen safely and I decided to take a photo to bring to someone's attention. The minute the Security Guard noticed my camera he got very aggressive towards me, so I went outside and followed him, escorting the man again. He left him up against a concrete pillar, still escorting by neck. He focused all his attention towards me and started to follow me as I was leaving the ER area outside. I videoed him walking towards me as I asked him what I did wrong, he didn't answer but wanted my camera. As soon as he got close enough, he stole it from me! Ripped it out of my hands, making contact with my face. I wasn't leaving without my personal property, so he sent out 2 large Security Guards. I have seen assault happen by security and this guy was protected by RJH, because he was going to be a "Fireman". Should I have charged him?

Jason S.

each time I have been there, they have gotten me checked out in record time, the staff are awesome and helpfuland always have a smile. Same goes for the Dr's!

I had a blast getting the "lesson" on how to use the overnight oxemtry gear

Aleah Peterson

Most of the replies here are talking about the wait, but between a swollen eye and somebody dying the staff is going to focus on whatever case is most important, rather than whoever’s the most upset. Complaining will do nothing for you. A good tip is that despite the amount of people in the lobby, you never know the current wait because there could always be an undergoing surgery.

Bill Thompson

Horrible parking. Sat for 20 min trying to get into the parkade. Wife with appointment had to get out and leave or miss appointment.

We had a emergency situation at home. From the moment I called 911 till I brought the lucky one home, we were treated quickly with professionalism and compassion. The caring doctors nurses administrator s everyone we ran into or passed by you could tell they have passion for there work , that made a almost tragic moment a turning point in our lives. Thank you all for what you do thank you

The staff here are a joke. They don't serve people in the order the arrive or the order of most concern first, but tend to help out anyone 65+ first and foremost. The ER is judgmental when you come in, thinking everyone is just a bunch of junkies needing a fix. Only gets 2 stars because their janitorial team really works hard to keep the place spotless. I always see them going around doing any and everything imaginable to keep it hygienic.

leatheredmark

This is the 3rd time in ER in 5 months with increasing chronic chest pains. Hallways jammed with stretchers, people waiting everywhere. The facility is beyond capacity. Staff are stretched to the limit. Typical of 3rd world healthcare system. Still all the basic test were done to rule out a heartattack, then sent home. Chest pains continue but some lives don't matter.

The reason for the 1 star: I went to the emergency around 12:40am on new years day 2022, whole waiting in line at the check in section, I saw a male nurse use his feet to wake up a female patient who was sleeping. The cleaning guy told the male nurse that "she can't sleep there." I was processed and sent to ambulatory treatmet to see a doctor; I saw the same male nurse trying to attend to a male patient sleeping on the chairs. Instead of using his hands to gentle shake the patient awake, the nurse used his foot to shake the patient and he did it with another female nurse (blond with hair on a ponytail) standing beside him and she didn't say anything. Both of them left, 3 mins later the male nurse returned and again used his foot to try and wake the patient sleeping on the chairs. Then the male nurse called security on a patient because he was "smoking" so 2 security officers escorted the "smoker" out of the building. When the nurse was questioned why the guy was kicked out he replied and said 'hospital rules had to be followed.'

Kimberley Munoz

This is definitely not a place you where you wish to spend time but I have to say that I received the best care from all the staff at the Jubilee. Thanks to the nurses for being so professional and courteous.

Funny FACE

Worst experience of my life. Surgery to remove part or all of my right lung was no real surprise. The hospital is lovely. The Doctor's I don't really trust (with good reason). The Nurses were the biggest disappointment of my life. Day 4 I gave up getting any food from anyone. I bought my own meals each day. I was tired, hungry and begging for food........they called the security guard on me. He really did not know what to say. I felt sorry for him. From then on I knew I had to take care of myself as there was no help here at all. The day I was released, they brought me a wheel chair at my request. They left me to put my bags on the chair and I walked myself down to the waiting area two hours early for my pick up, because I could not get out of there any faster. I got home on the Friday a week to the day of my surgery. On Sunday the nurse called and she came out to change my dressing which had not been changed at all across my back and only partly where they took one tube out I came home with a mess of blood across my back and a drainage tube from my right lung which had not had a dressing change either since the surgery over a week earlier. I asked if they had a scale so I could check my weight and they could not find one????? :( I have never felts so badly in my whole life and being void of family, quieting smoking cold turkey the day of surgery, chronic back pain and so much no one gives a care about. But we all have pain in our lives. Kindness is really needed here. :(

They take their job seriously offering quality care to the public. My short remarks that is focused on the Cardio dept. is that they're true professionals. In cardio rehab. ask for Sandy, Jan or Anna to be impressed by their dedication during your cardio rehab program. 2 thumbs up. My experiences here is superb!

Great facility - best to get a lay of the land if you have to use the services as there are many. So glad to have so many experts in their fields in this venue.

Hospitals are good buuuuut the emergency room is madness. Late at night this place gets busy especially on the weekends. Loooooong waits are inevitable. But the other care units are good. There have been some recent renovations that make parts of the facility great.

Among other issues, the thing that stood out to me the most when I went to this hospital for emergency care was a nurse who was taking down my information in the waiting room area who was quite short with me and did not treat me with care. He would ask me a question, then not wait for me to finish answering. I've never felt so vulnerable and embarrassed talking to a healthcare professional while seeking help. Two other nurses hovered in the area watching. After being short and hasty, he began publicly asking me sensitive questions like if I was anorexic and depressed. I had just told him why I had come to the hospital, and he ignored the answers I gave and abruptly started asking questions irrelevant to the issues that had brought me to the hospital that day. I can understand that being a nurse is a stressful job, but what I can't deal with is the insensitivity while dealing with patients who come to you for care. I'm appreciative of the nurses who despite the stress of the job, treat the people whom they interact with with care and respect. I worry about the nurses who are obviously burnt out who continue to work despite their deconstructive behavior and pent up frustrations.

Ainsley Koebel

my experience here was traumatic. I had been bleeding so heavily that I passed out alone and decided to go to the hospital when I came to. I waited hours just to be given zero treatment and get sent home.

Communications in this facility need to be improved. Bitter tired nurses need to be monitored and either given help to improve or told to retire. Good ones need to be rewarded. No more propaganda from nurses unions, government, or administrators. Get back to good , honest, efficient, accurate medicine. I speak from the side of family member and patient.

Donald St Eloi

My wife is 54 years old, 5ft nothing. She came to this hospital in extreme pain, they shuffled her around for 6 hours, in the end they gave her nothing for her pain and told her to go home. This hospital on a scale of 1 to 10 gets a _0 . I Would rather die at home them come to this hospital.

What a disgusting place... HORRIBLE!! The Government of BC needs to look hard at this place. I ended up in Ambulatory care.. disgusting how the nurses and staff behind the counter rattled on with each other about holidays and places.. laughing, joking.... while 10 people sat there waiting for healthcare. WHAT A DISGUSTING PLACE!!!

I am currently at the hospital in emergency with my partner. We have been waiting for over three hours with her in a lot of pain only to have the doctor talk to another doctor about his eye for over half an hour to the point that someone has came in that cut his hand badly with a table saw. Now that 30 wasted minutes talking to another professional will end up having us here for God only knows how long. Not to mention the nurse being extremely rude to the old lady next to us asking her a favor. What a terrible experience all around. I understand it is a stressful job but come on... This other doctor is under 30 and walking around while on shift and keeps saying(I don't want to be that guy/I know it's busy but I want to know about my eye). Don't be that guy then. Let the doctors help people that actually need it.

Psychiatric Emergency Support? More like "Pathetic Excuse for Support." I went here for help with treating my PTSD, and though they were sincere (there were exceptions, however) they seemed like amateurs. They provide very few workable options to people who are not all but mentally incapacitated. I told them I wanted to take revenge on, and hurt certain people, and they let me go! After booking me some psychiatric support that will take 2 weeks to a month to start, they gave me a short supply of a dangerous anti psychotic and released me! I'm not an immediate threat to myself or anyone else so they don't have the resources. This is absolutely unacceptable. This is how bodies start piling up. People need proper support, if not society pays the consuquences. It happens down in the US all the time. You need to do better.

Terri Aylward

The staff are amazing but the volunteer taking names should look for a new career!

John R. Paterson

I recently visited the Royal Jubilee for blood test and an ECG. No appointment is necessary. They are very well organized and waiting time was minimal. Covid 19 protocols of course in effect.

Shelley Shell

My father has just been discharged from Jubilee after an 8 day stay there. Everyone from the emergency personnel to the staff, nurses and doctors on the 4th floor general ward were fabulous. The care he received from all was amazing. They were kind, compassionate, caring and always willing to help. I seldom write reviews but because of the fantastic care in this state of the art new hospital I felt compelled to share our experience. It was amazing!!

I had the worst experience few days ago. I got to the hospital at 4am with my sick mom who had difficulty breathing. The nurses and doctors were nice until they had a shift change in the morning. So my previous nurse didn’t had enough time to update about my moms health and said the other nurse would explain everything in detail once she’s here. Nurse named angela was my moms new nurse and I politely asked her to update what happened to my mom when she’s free. And i got the rudest reply I’ve ever had from a nurse, IM BUSY AND YOUR MOM IS NOT THE ONLY PATIENT. I avoided talking to her and waited until she comes and talk to me about my moms health. Waited 6 hrs in the emerg saw her take a break, eat lunch and use the washroom but didn’t had few minutes to update me abt my mom. I stayed 13 hrs in the emerg not knowing what was wrong with my mom although her test results were right there on her table. I worked as a nurse for 13 years and never have I ever treated a patients family in such a way. You need to work somewhere else with that attitude I went home leaving my mom at the hospital, came back to the emerg next day and talked with a new nurse who was in charge of my mom and found out she has a severe pneumonia. And that was all I wanted to know. -10 stars

Friendly staff. Long wait time.

I asked for information on antibiotics other generic looking pills as well, for what they assumed was my condition, hopefully in printout format.I was told that I was refusing my medication BECAUSE I WAS INQUIREING ABOUT IT {I had told them I was allergic to seroquil when I ARRIVED AND THEY WERE TRYING TO GIVE ME ONE AS SOON AS I AWOKE THIS MORNING}within one minute of asking for info I was surrounded by 2 security gaurds and they told me I was refusing treatment and had to go.On top of that an aggressive nurse was trying to make me sign a piece of paper stating that I was"refusing?"There is a difference between asking for tech information and refusing....I did not recieve medical attention I was treated like the Jew I am 70 years ago..thank god I didnt get a pandemic ,I didnt see one staff member scrub once..

Lesa Lacey

We had a family member on the 7th floor of Royal Jubilee and recently visited - the room was so clean and beautiful with an incredible city view! Every staff member at every point of contact was friendly and professional - the nursing staff was incredible and I could tell what level of care and attention they provided our family member. I am so thankful for the amazing dedication and patience of the Royal Jubilee team - especially in the face of the pandemic. Many thanks to the talented health care staff!

I have just had an X-ray at this hospital to check my eyes. The technician working there insisted that I should take off my mask and told me to do so immediately. I asked him if just pulling down my mask a bit would be okay. He said no because there was a metal strip in the mask. I was ordered to stand there with my nose touching the instrument. Then I realized that if it is only because of the metal strip, he should let me wear the mask upside-down to avoid the metal strip being too close to my eyes. I am 76 years old but he did not seem to care that I might get Covid-19.

marty petrak

Triage was amazing. Thankyou to every staff member i encountered.

Kiki Willow

Had a day procedure done the other day, and everyone from the cleaning staff, x-ray staff nurses and dr's were awesome. I have been a patient at both Vic General and Jubilee now so I can say without a doubt Jubilee is far superior to Vic Gen. I felt listened to, the nurses and staff did not seem stressed, rushed, annoyed irritated and the bedside manner was very caring and loving. (Vic Gen can learn a thing or to from this) I also received a follow up phone call the day after to see how I was feeling, I never got that at Vic Gen.

Jamie Nightingale

I was admitted to Jubilee in early March and found the entire medical staff to be extremely caring and professional. Thank-you once again for 'Taking care of Me'...jamie

Absolutely lovely hospital, I call it the 5 star resort of BC hospitals. Fantastic, compassionate doctors and angel nurses make getting through difficult health challenges as comforting as possible. I'm so greatful to have received the best care during my surgery and recovery, thank you so much for the care and improving my quality of life!

Front desk staff members/nurses in medical imaging and ambulatory care were rude and offensive. Not very helpful when you were just hit by a car, and bleeding, broken and in a lot of pain. Doctor was very good though.

Justin K.

If you are suffering from mental illness, do not go to this hospital for support. They will not help you and they might call the cops on you. The staff is rude and very demeaning. Never been treated worse in my life. Resident doctor Nathan is hands down the worst doctor I have ever met. He is absolutely clueless.

On Saturday I was here with my 12-year-old son because he had broken his finger. I want to highlight the incredibly wonderful attention that we both received from Mrs. Tania HCA. She was aware of my son every 15 minutes, she made him laugh every time he passed, she worried about how he was feeling and if my son was hungry since we had been waiting there for 6 hours. She did not do it because it was her job, but for humanity and kindness. She brought us sandwiches, yogurt and even ice cream for my son and me. If many of the people who work there acted like Tania HCA did, the long hours of waiting would turn into seconds. We are very grateful, Tania HCA

great hospital, looked after moms heart problems like pros highly recomend this hospital

Mathieu Warnet-Pelletier

Went for a visit today without an appointment, they offered me a free mask and there was 4 staff dedicated to welcome me as soon as I walked in. Service was quick, I first went for a photo session then the hostess brought me to a private room where I laid on a comfortable bed while I was waiting for my assigned practitioner. I was then sent to a moving table that goes into a donut that spins around and takes 360° 3d pictures, so relaxing. On my way back, there was complimentary cable tv and ice cold water on demand in the waiting room while this new set of photos was getting developed. The water closet near the photo studio was also very clean. All the staff I seen was very friendly, efficient and professional. All and all I was in and out within 3hrs. I definitely recommend this spa. They also offer valet service and there are multiple food options nearby. 5/5 stars.

Broke multiple bones in my limb. I waited 7 hours in emergency and all they did was splint me after getting an xray. It's been over a week since I tried to get medical treatment. Still waiting for a phone call as to when I can go.

Had the worst ultrasound experience with the staff. Been treat very cold, not friendly at all. It was a young lady and she used all short sentence in the entire process, lay down, take your paints down, top up, etc.... When I try to see the image on the computer, she immediately said DON'T MOVE. ITS FOR ME TO SEE, NOT YOU. When my husband was excited to see our baby and walked closer to the screen wants to see more clear. She said, Sit back to the chair. It was terrible to be treated. When she said that's done I asked can I know the gender of my baby, she looked at me giggled and ask how long you've been in Canada ?. DOES IT MATTERS TO MY QUESTION? She said in Canada I am not allowed to tell you, go find out with your doctor. I was rush to go back to work so I left without to argue with her and I pulled my angry looking husband from the room. We left with a very bad taste in our mouth. I've been in this hospital few times for different reason and it was generally good, except this horrible experience given by the ultrasound room lady.

The emergency department has to be in the top percentile for efficiency, cleanliness and professionalism. I was amazed at the triage performed by staff. The Physicians were on top of all situations. I was treated with respect and understanding. We are so so fortunate to have this department here in Victoria. Kudos to the staff. Waiting time can very which fits the triage and is necessary for the health and safety of all patients. This is a top notch facility with top notch Specialists. Is it perfect, no. Best in the west, no doubt.

I had to stay at the hospital many time, also been to the emergency many time and only have praise for the staff specialy in the cardiac care, always receive great care, never complain about my stay keep up the good work Just spent another 2 weeks after a Cardiac arrest and in spite of causing trouble while I was not myself, the staffs never held it against me, the nurses are the best people to be around when you need it Thank you for your great work Pierre

i was just in RJH this past Tuesday for a heart procedure... and can say nothing negative about my stay there. The team in the CSS ward where just wonderful to be with, they are caring compassionate, efficent and friendly even when they are so busy. The Team with Dr. Leather who did my procedure where so wonderful... anything around your heart gets my nerves up, but they did such a great job in explaining everything, which help keep my nerves at bay; chatting to me the whole time .... i have had to use our hospitals several times over the past several years for my family and recently myself and i can not find any fault with the quality of care i have recieved in both Victoria and in Nananimo...we are very lucky to have this quality of care...i am totally amazed at how far the medcial profession has come.. years ago we would not have been so fortunate to have these procedures available to us or the facilities... for all the negative talk, maybe we should look at seeing how fortunate we are to have this available to us... thank you Dr. Leather and all the team that took care of me in Victoria...

I have been going to this hospital since I had my tonsils out at age 4. In the last 6 years I have had 4 major surgeries here and cannot speak more highly of the staff. Kind, friendly, helpful, caring and comforting. Everyone from the cleaners, the food services people the nurses, doctors and technicians. About 20 odd years ago when they were still in the old building which was a total wreck and very dreary there were older staff who were stressed, unhappy and it showed. Since that time most of them have retired and been replaced by younger, fresher and more energetic staff. Since the new hospital opened this place has been live a five start hotel. People complain about the wait times. Stand in line folks. The problem is no doctors and people will not go to walk in clinics which are open every day 7.00am to 9.00 or 10.00 p.m. If you are waiting it is because you are NOT an emergency. You see a few people in the waiting room and think you should not have to wait very long. You forget that plenty of people who ARE emergencies are being brought in by ambulance and you never see how many of those are already in the beds in the back. Great hospital. Great staff. Great care. (P.S. When you read negative reviews check that person's review list. In several cases on this site you will see that these people don't post any review unless it is totally negative. Some people are just unhappy no matter what!)

Diane Kallal

Caring staff. Always go above and beyond whenever I’ve been there.

A Big - THANK YOU! I visited the Emergency room here on Sunday after experiencing excruciating abdominal ache. The nurse at the reception was friendly enough to accommodate me in the comfortable waiting room with blankets and a bed! WOW!! Because of the pain I could neither stand nor sleep...The wait was a bit painful, but I'm willing to overlook that. The nurses were receptive and listened to everything I said. Later the doctor diagnosed me with appendicitis; the process including the blood work and CT scan were done so..."nurturingly"...if that's even a word. There was always someone to pull the stretcher...I could walk but they did not let me :P. The nurse was very helpful in administering all the injections...I never got to say thanks to him. Sigh! Pre-surgery, the doctor was quite entertaining and that helped me relax a lot. Then post surgery there were nurses round the clock till 6 am, shortly followed by the delishezzz breakfast. When I left, I was surprised I did not have to pay a dime... I am blessed to be in this country!

This hospital used to be the only hospital t ,I would recommend to anyone and used to speak highly of the care that I was giving,,,,,,well it's not at all like that a

During the current pandemic the last place I would choose to be is a hospital. Having been there twice now in the past three months I was so pleased to see the total efficiency in place. From the moment you enter the hospital every precaution is taken. The nurses in the eye clinic were extremely knowledgeable and the clinic was spotless and sanitized after every patient. Beyond being efficient they genuinely cared and explained everything that was happening in detail. Warm blankets and recliners also helped reduce the tension I was feeling. A very special Thank You to Jane and Ruth. Your kindness, professionalism and caring through both procedures will always be remembered with gratitude. In a time of darkness you provide a shining light!

If I could give healthcare in Victoria -5 stars I would. For the past 3 months I've had excruciating back pain and have been to the ER and to see doctors multiple times. Not only has no effective medication or treatment been given, but I've been belittled for my pain by doctors and verbally abused by an ER nurse, who screamed at me because I was lying on the floor to try and alleviate some pain. I'm in constant pain and think about killing myself every day. My health may seem like nothing to staff at both royal jubilee and Vic Gen but it is important to me. I'm a human being, I don't deserve to have my pain mocked and made light of.

Erin Burton

Was admitted via emergency, stayed 3 nights, had CT then emergency surgery. Super impressed with all staff, all were caring. Most are stretched thin due to budgets and people using the ER for unnecessary reasons.

Out of my chaos came great service and empathy. Thank you for being great at your job.

The hospice unit was incredibly generous during my sisters final transition through death. During the Covid19 pandemic, my sisters brain cancer claimed her life. I was unable to fly home to be with her in her final moments, so the nurses included me in the experience to the best of their ability. They went above and beyond by holding the phone up to her ear so I could speak to her, described her room and painted a picture of her view of mount Baker out the window. The nurse described the energy in the room, and made me feel at peace by sharing details about her final moments up to the last breath. She even called the following day to check on me and make sure I had a support system to lean on as I begin the healing process. I’m grateful for their compassion, and generosity during this challenging time. Gratefully & sincerely, Nicolle Callahan

Horrible experience, very uncaring staff, took my boyfriend to the ER very bad staff when they put us in the waiting room, first they did not tell us what they kept injecting into him, he had the stomach flu and needed to use the washroom and a nurse told us "is he using that washroom? Great now you have to tell someone to clean it cause now it's contaminated!" Like where is he suppose to go when he has diarrhea. After waiting 3 hours in the ER waiting room I got up and asked politely to a lady how long will the wait be and she yelled at me rudely "there is 1 doctor! He has to treat all the first emergency people first! and I said okay but he's about to faint. She responded "well he's sitting on a chair isn't he?" From that response I was very disappointed in the staff. While I went out to get some air there was also a cat wondering inside the office... it was one of the staffs cat because they did my do anything about him... isn't this a hospital why is there a cat just wondering around in the ER waiting room. Another incident the nurse told my bf to not put his puke bag on the chair because he'll have to clean the chair cause it'll be contaminated. HE IS PUKING AND HAVING DIARRHEA AT THE SAME TIME AND HE IS ABOUT TO FAINT ARE YOU SERIOUS. Worst staff ever. We then were able to leave from 2am-6am all they did was inject gravol into him and sat in the er waiting area the whole time.

I get how busy a hospital can be i work in healthcare, however I called the hospital and gave the information they looked it up, it was my nephew sent to hospital with diverticulitis. I started at information desk, was put through to north 7th floor was told no it must be south, was transferred again only to be told did you try north ? I said yes and was put through twice now, the last transfer was to a day ward and NOBODY answered the phone. I fail to see how a hospital like this behaves this way, so here i am WITH NO INFORMATION on my nephew because of the incredible lack of connections. Shame on you I have no idea if he is in surgery or anything about him. I do expect him to get GOOD CARE. His name is John Auringer and you have him in your hospital right now but nobody knows where FINE HIM

If I could, I would put 0 star. This is my worst medical experience ever. I have pain in my ears for 5 month. I went 3 times to the emergency as it got worse every time. Last time I went, my throat was swallen and had a strong pain in my neck while pressing it. The first doctor didn't know what to do and I ask to have a throat swab + blood test (I am not a doctor). I've been told by the doctor, results would be available in an hour if it doesn't get lost. What type of service is that ? Are you guys taking me seriously ? Came back 3 hours later, no results available. In between, I called my own doctor back to France who recommended me to do a X-Ray. Front desk ask me to do a check in again. I waited for 5 hours to finally see a second doctor. I told him that my french doctor said to do a X-Ray. The doctor refused and wanted to give me painkiller. I told him "this is not going to heal the problem". I forgot to mention that I have been given 5 different diagnosis by doctors. I have never seen in my life such unprofessional, condescended doctors in that hospital but also walk in clinic. They absolutely don't have any idea at what they do. They have no confidence at what they tell you. They don't try to fix your problem and rush you to the exit. There is a real problem in Canadian medical care. Everyone thinks it is normal as this is the only thing they know. Coming from France, I can tell you those people are far away to be doctors. What type of school did you guys go to ? Do you realize an ear pain can lead to hearing loss for ever ? You guys do not do your job properly and shouldn't be called "doctor". Go to europe where competition is hard and where doctors are professionnal and taking care of their patient. You guys have a lot to learn and improve ! Shame on this hospital !

Worst hospital in Canada. My husband was allowed to leave for 4 hour intervals after having minor surgery but his wife wasn't allowed to go to his room. This was up to some nurse to decide??? The 8th floor completely different story where you could stay overnight and anybody can visit. I would never go there

You'd think the psych ward would know how to handle an autistic patient. Complete stimulation overlode to the point of meltdown. Staff made it so much worse. I just wanted to leave and they wouldn't let me or give me my own area to ground myself. I wouldn't go back even if I wanted to kill myself

Christina

I was rear ended by a car and hit off my motor scooter. I suspected I had a concussion from it and felt pain on one side of my body from falling off my bike. I went into the hospital on Thanksgiving and was treated poorly by the intake nurse. She was very mad at me for coming in and wasting their time but all of the walk in clinics were closed for the long weekend and my doctors office was closed. She sent me to the other waiting room in tears. I told the doctor what happened and he suggested to call the hospital later to make a complaint. He told me her behavior was wrong and i should complain to a manager. All of the other staff that handled me then were very nice.

Sue M L

it is a very nice hospital.

Dr. Veleva is very thorough and words cannot explain how great she is. She follows up right away as soon as she gets the results from tests, you get a phone call right away. She doesn't hesitate to set up future appointments with her patients. Always very welcoming and calm. I do always look forward to my appointments with her because I know she's taking very good care of me.

The emergency room at this hospital is horrendous. I seriously think that place needs a major review and overhaul! I've had to go there a couple of times, and I dread it! The last time, yesterday, while I waited for 4 hours to see a doctor (which, in all honesty, I was far more able to tolerate than many in there), I witnessed some things that I have to seriously question. When I got there, there was a gentleman with a baby, no more than two laying on him on a recliner. At that point, the baby was sleeping. After a while, he woke up, and of course did what babies do; he started crying. By this point mom was there, and then mom and dad spent the next few hours trying to comfort and entertain the little guy. When I was finally in x-ray (approximately 4 hours later), I heard the little guy screaming in another room. When he came out, he had a cast on. Yep... he was already there when I arrived at the ER, and here he was, at least 4 hours later, with a broken arm and finally leaving with a cast. REALLY?!? 4-5 hours to figure out a two year old has a broken arm and needs a cast? Surely, a nurse (or nurse practitioner) could have figured out that he needed an x-ray the moment he walked in the door? Then there was the woman who was writhing in agony with abdominal pain, and holding a cardboard puke catcher. They had placed her in one of those awful shopping-cart like wheel chairs with a blanket under her butt on metal for ‘cushioning’. The man who brought her in had to leave for a period of time; during that time, her pain became so bad that she dropped her purse from her lap, left it where it lay and literally crawled around the corner. After a while, with her purse still lying where she dropped it, I went to check on her. I found her lying on the floor in the hallway. While all of this was going on, an RCMP officer stood there chatting with a security guard, seemingly oblivious to what was going on (granted, not his job – but that’s a whole other story). I lost count of how many staff members wandered by without even noticing what was going on, including a doctor with a gang of observers of some kind (students perhaps? I don’t know). When I went to check on the woman, I took her purse over to her and folded up the blanket from the seat of her shopping cart wheelchair and put it under her head (I won’t call it a wheelchair, because it was just a metal frame on wheels). I went over to tell staff that she was really struggling and in a lot of pain. They said they were pretty sure someone was going to be over shortly. After a bit longer, someone who looked like a doctor walked by, and I showed him around the corner where she was lying and told him she was in a bad way. I think he said something like “oh, I’ll have to get someone to come over”. After a while, finally, someone showed up to put her in a recliner, give her an IV and a shot of painkiller of some kind. This really is a system that needs to be fixed. While all this was going on, there were two people sitting in the front check-in, chatting away, with not too much to do by the looks of it. And x-ray seemed pretty well staffed, with at least 3 people sitting behind the counter chatting. Perhaps that extra admin staff, while they wait for things to get busy enough for them to be needed, could have been ensuring that patients in agony weren’t laying in hallways, almost unconscious. Perhaps, they could at least walk around the emergency rooms with some warm blankets for people, or bring the woman beside me, with an ankle the size of a football, some ice - instead of an RN doing that? Please don’t reply with your standard “sorry to hear about your experience” reply. Instead, please use that resource time to do something about your obviously broken system!

I made a phone call to the Bariatric Surgery Program, asking for some information as per my doctor. I had to phone a few times as I had been making several calls, and wanted to get one last piece of clarification. The front desk person, not sure her name (but their English had a different type of accent to it), was EXTREMELY rude to me. Reminded me that I had phoned three times, and if I had any further questions, to look on their website. I was unable to locate the information on the website, and after 10 different phone calls to four different places, I was getting my information crossed. Although feeling overwhelmed, I expressed how sorry I was to call, “three times” over the course of A few hours; aside from her lack of support, and complete ignorance, while cutting me off, and not hearing my question, she hung up on me after I told her she could have presented a lot nicer on the phone; that people calling in for weight loss surgery, or life altering questions can be rather overwhelming, and she needs to practice her mannerism. Extremely unprofessional, and EXTREMELY rude.

When I checked in on Monday, March 1 the women at the front desk was rude and short with me, pointing at signs and acting like I should know what to do and where to go just because she does. During these times a little kindness goes a long way, and how about a little respect for seniors, the rest of the day with staff was good.

I would just like to sincerely thank Theresa in the Pulminary Function test lab for her wonderful assistance yesterday. She was professional, yet personable, direct, yet kind, efficent, yet patient. I was immediately put at ease, had an excellent rapport with her and was immensely grateful for her kindness and consideration. I thank her, and all medical professionals who work so tirelessly to help us all. Thank you, Dave French

My wife, Marline, had a valve somewhere near her heart put in. It was in 2016. Her experience with Staff and Surgeon was, "Absolutely Wonderful". I know, I know! Hard to think that frightening expetience could be that way..but, being that tha People there were, Great! Helped a , LOT! Thoughful, kind, Caring and always making sure She was, Ok! All day, All night! Of course, more could be said, but.....Thank you all at, Jubilee! From her Husband, Ted. March 29, 2021!

On behalf of my husband Bruce Meldrum, we would like to express our appreciation for the wonderful care recently provided by Nurse Stephanie ? in the Cardiac Short Stay Unit. Soft spoken, extremely competent and kind with a gentle smile and sense of humour she exemplifies the very best in nursing care. Despite the fact that Bruce has had by-pass surgery as well as a number of angiograms and angioplasty procedures, it is still a stressful time for the patient and his family and we cannot say how very glad we are that Stephanie chose a career in nursing and we were the lucky recipients of that choice. A truly lovely nurse!! Thank you so very much Stephanie! Bruce and Maggie

I came in for a dislocated shoulder. 2 hours later I had to ask for a sling three times before I got one. I can't believe no one has offered to get me a sling when I am clearly in pain.

Deborah Dorosz

We took my Dad in because of side effects from a procedure in the morning. The paramedics were great and fast tracked my Dad in Emergency. Dr. G. Jones was fantastic and cared listened and understood my Dad. Wonderful care.

Janna Moore

Waited over 10 hours for my mother to be seen she was critical and they delayed, delayed, delayed, lied, said we shouldn’t leave and fly home because my mom is too critical. But would not treat her. they called security on us. Had to fly home to California and was seen in our home emergency room in five minutes. Never get medical care in Canada.

I was there for open heart surgery.the doctors did fantastic work saving my life.the nurses failed to follow the doctors orders and some of them were ignorant and nasty to me.they failed to read and follow doctors orders.my red blood count went from 107,down to 92 because they tried to starve me and fed med the wrong diet.on one occation they gave me too much insulin and almost killed me.then they tried to keep me against my will even after the doctors said I was cleared to go home.it was worse than prison

Adam Cook

Unclean, ever since the government privatisation of cleaning services in hospitals and care facilities the cleaning has been severly lacking in quality.

Patricia Jackson

I recently had a hip replacement operation and, without exception, every person I encountered or who was involved in my care was outstanding. The surgical team, nursing and care staff, rehab staff, xray staff and absolutely everyone else were friendly, caring, and above all, totally professional. My heartfelt thanks to a terrific group of people. Two weeks in and I'm practically dancing already! Pat Jackson

worst hospital experience I've ever had. Nursing staff couldn't care less about what you're going through, and doctors were rolling their eyes and extremely rude. I would rather self treat than visit this place again. Never seen such apathetic staff...

Matt Hudolin

Terrible experience with hospital staff here. No one seems to be in charge, have a clue what’s going on, or communicate with each other. They rotate their doctors every 2 weeks without briefing the new doctors on patients conditions. They left my mother alone in a room while she was having a stroke and gave her no attention when she called for them. Staff also would not allow my sister up to visit her after she flew in from Vancouver and had been given visitation privileges from the previous head nurse on our mother’s floor. They gave her medication that she didn’t need which triggered even worse conditions. She nearly died there, and would have, if she hadn’t been airlifted to VGH where she actually received a first rate standard of care and after 5 months in hospital, has recovered. Disgusting attitude from the 5th floor head nurse. I would stay as far away from this place as possible, and would not recommend it to anyone. Absolutely appalling.

Maddy T

A nightmare My husband was discharged to home after 7 yrs in care. He is abusive verbally and hasn’t drawn s sober breath since discharge. What right did this doctor after knowing my husband 2 months to overrule all the Psychiatrists before him.

Jamie Hansen

December 18, 2018 Horrible. My wife had surgery yesterday. The surgeon told her she would be in the hospital for two nights. Admitting was good. Surgeon excellant. Charge nurse on the south side of the 7th floor is in the wrong profession. The day after the surgery, less than 24 hrs the charge nurse told her she had to leave and she could wait downstairs. When reminded that the surgeon said two nights the nirse said the surgeon wasnt in charge. Thw surgeon was amazing. The rest was completly uncaring and rude. This charge nurse does not belong in the nursing profession and should be fired immediately.

Robert Lewis

Yes an emergency room visit can be trying; any place will be, it's full of lots of people with lots of problems. But once you get past that and are (unfortunately) admitted to hospital, care is good and caring. The doctor who sees you in emergency makes a huge difference (some are great, some are jerks) but again, that is the same everywhere.

Brian Mees

Contrary to some of the existing negative "reviews" I have nothing but praise for the surgeons, and nursing staff at Jubilee, after all they did save my life. The Nursing after care, following open heart surgery, was of the highest order. Having worked overseas a lot, and had to endure various foreign/European health systems, I have no qualms in saying that all the care that I have received in BC has excelled those experienced overseas. There will obviously people who will view things differently, but before being hyper critical persons should experience other systems, they may take a different view of situations. On a negative note................the food at the time of my internment was quite the epitome of hospital cuisine, unpalatable.
