REVIEWS OF Joseph Brant Hospital IN Burlington

I was here with my family when my mother was in labour. My mother's Doctor referred her to the Joseph Brant due to her high blood pressure the day before, yet they did not believe her and sent her home. The doctor told her to go to the hospital again the next day, again, due to her high blood pressure. Once again, the nurses were rude and didn't believe her. The doctor told her that she must stay to be induced so the nurses finally gave her a room. My family and I have been pretty involved during her pregnancy so my grandmother, step-dad, and I were supposed to be allowed in the delivery room. However, the nurse asked us to step out to the family room numerous times, claiming she would ask someone to come get us afterward. Every time we left, we were never called back in and had to check in ourselves until we found that we could go back in. My mother also asked for the epidural, but after it was in, it wasn't working so my mother had to get the nurse to call the anesthesiologist back up. This took at least 20 minutes, meanwhile my mother was in excruciating pain. We lost our way getting to the room and asked numerous nurses for help, and none of them told us the proper way to go. I would not suggest this hospital to anyone, and if possible, I suggest avoiding it.

Usually pretty good. I know they're overwhelmed with covid tests right now by the way I was spoken to is not ok. My dad got sick almost 2 weeks ago (probably just a cold), and I quarantined even though I had no symptoms. We made an appointment immediately. Got an appointment 4 days later. Results were supposed to be available within 4 days. They weren't but we got better. A provincial site said that if you're asymptomatic, haven't left the country or met a known case, it was ok to work without results back. I had taken over a week off of work and needed to go back (hourly worker) - but I wear a mask the whole time, stay 6 feet back, and tell everyone my situation. It's been 8 days since I got the test - no results yet. I called, was bluntly told they know nothing, and when I said I had no choice but to work she snapped and told me I could be charged for endangering the public!

I have literally never had a good experience at this hospital but today’s takes the cake. I went in with a mass on my spine, and there was literally no one in the ER waiting room, or triage room. I got taken back immediately. Waited a bit, any nurse I saw looked at the lump, which is severely painful. I should mention, my mother was in a wheelchair by the end of her life with spinal stenosis, which is hereditary. The doctor comes in, pokes it once says it’s something which is didn’t even catch but reiterates it’s ‘just fat’ collected on my spine and it’s a cosmetic surgery if I need it and Essentially told me to eff off. Well sir, YOU can eff off. Even my mom, when she got diagnosed with the spinal stenosis, was misdiagnosed by you guys for 8 years. And then once diagnosed you left her to transfer from wheelchair to bed when she was still learning, alone, and she fell and broke her pinky toe badly. She also had a cardiac arrest on site and nearly died which would have been prevented had they noticed the signs she was pointing out(her hands were the size of a baseball glove) if I could rate this place -Infinity I would. Eff you Joseph brant.

Took the best care of me!! I’m actually writing a letter to the hospital to let them know how grateful I am . There was nothing but compassionate caring people from emergency to my operation. Thank you Joseph Brant

Worst hospital ever!! Waiting 2hrs for a booked ultrasound appointment... ????

I have received great care here.

Management doesn't take mental health seriously, who knows what else. Not a real hospital. Please go anywhere else. this place is only for tax dollars

I spent 10 days at this hospital in April 2018 and I was treated amazingly. The nurses, doctors and even cleaning lady as well as the people who brought me my food everyday were AMAZING. I've been in several hospitals and I've never been treated so good...the staff at the xray department made sure I was comfortable and the porters were extremely funny and friendly...Thank you Joseph Brant for showing me you cared....

Please fix how people are admitted through the ER triage - at least introduce a numbering system. Your current process with blue chairs is awful. Im thankful to the volunteers for their kind support when I was alone. The small gesture of water/blankets and a smile helped ease my mind about being in the hospital. Doctors at this hospital seem to take concerns seriously and acted appropriately.

I recently took my 2 year old to the emergency room at Joe Brant Hospital. Awful experience. Nurses could care less if you are okay or not. The place was dirty, left over garbage everywhere. After 3 hours of waiting I took my son and left we had not seen a doctor or even a nurse to come and check to see if he was okay. He hit his head and was bleeding. No one offered to clean him up or anything. I will never return to this hospital.

I was recently in Joseph Brant to have my gallbladder removed. The staff were so supportive and kind as I was very nervous and felt rather alone when I arrived. They took marvellous care of me and I even had a private room with a view of the lake on the lovely new wing. This is a tremendous improvement on what I can remember when my father was admitted back in the Nineties on the old part. Thank you so much for all the wonderful staff that looked after me for my short stay.

What's not to love? I live in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and I have had two life threatening incidents that Joseph Brant Hospital has handled for me personally. At age 47, I had wildly erratic blood pressure. When admitted to Intensive Care in 1988 one side of my body was immobile. Staff immediately found a shortage of key blood elements. The electrolytes stabilized the paralysis, but only a diagnosis of a rare disorder called "Conn's Syndrome", a one in a million blood pressure disorder, did I get the solution. A tumor on an adrenal gland was surgically excised in an adrenalectomy, causing my blood pressure to instantly return to normal. Dr. Comay and his team in the last 6 years, handled 6 colonoscopies at Joseph Brant, including one near cancerous blockage. I am clear until 2020! Finally: on March 18 2015 I had a knee replacement with Dr. Douglas Armstrong. He successfully replaced knee one a year earlier. The operation for knee two, was a total success, but during recovery 48 hours after surgery, I experienced a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs.). Dr Lisker, the attending specialist immediately diagnosed the problem and moved me into Intensive Care. (ICU.) He ordered an Iodine and scan test to confirm his diagnosis. It located the clot on my lungs. My blood pressure dropped precipitously, causing my heart to go into atrial fibulation. That means my heart was fluttering badly at rates of 50 to155 beats per minute. The options were to shock my heart back to a normal rhythm in a process called "cardio-version". That is where the heart is stopped and the re-started through paddles that deliver a heavy electrical shock. The other option was blood thinning and many intravenous applications. Option 2 worked! 48 hours after diagnosis, my heart returned to a normal rhythm. As I had 2 previous cardio-versions, I was grateful to escape that shock option, as it previously left deep bruising for weeks on my chest. The entire ICU staff gathered in my room and clapped with joy with me when my arterial system stabilized. Tell me why these people in this fine institution deserve anything less than a five star rating and you will get a stern debate from me. Thank you team Joseph Brant! For the next 48 hours I was surrounded by different physicians and specialists, and lab personnel with 24/7 care. I cannot mention specific names, because I would be ashamed to miss anyone. Let me summarize it this way: this incredible team saved my life. I cannot over praise the great dedication and love I experienced in the operating room, in recovery, and finally in Intensive care. from top to bottom, from admitting to lab technicians, from the sanitary staff to the ultra modern on site scanners, to an incredible nursing units,I experienced a total care atmosphere. It all starts with a brilliant young Burlington General Practitioner Dr. Conrad Sichler, who then ushered in amazing professionals like Dr. Brett Stevens, Cardiologist, and Douglas Armstrong, Orthopedic Surgeon. Joseph Brant Hospital will be getting a donation from our Family Trust, although what was done for me is "priceless". There is a special spirit at work at every level of Joseph Brant Hospital. When I drive by this beehive 24/7 complex, I say a special prayer of thanks, because there is no other building in Burlington that does anything close to the miracles delivered every day at Joseph Brant.

I was inpatient in the psychiatric ward, the nurses took my belt because its not allowed in the unit, which I understand. What I don't understand is how they managed to lose it, when I was discharged they tell me they can't find it. How did they manage to lose an entire belt? Really unhappy with this hospital staff.

I have now had two EMG’s done with Dr. B (sorry, unsure of her full name). The first time, I left very upset, not because of her but because her findings (or lack there of) left me frustrated. However the EMG I had on Tuesday left me LIVID. She didn’t listen to me. She asked if I had gained any weight recently. I said yes, but this issue started BEFORE any weight changes. She explained away my issue by telling me to lose 20lbs. There was ZERO reason for her giving me this advice. Going forward I will be requesting that any testing is done at a different hospital. I was having a discussion with a good friend (and doctor) the next day who was able to explain exactly the issue, as she had recently had it and suggested a chiropractor instead.

Jacob Smith (KingSmiley)

the wait time was extremely long but was made up for by the kindness and professionalism of the med student (think her name was rebecca) that helped suture my brothers injuries

Mary Summers

Excellent care everyone was so friendly and really seemed to care. Best care ever.

Jonathan Barnard

Horribly run. Ignorant Doctors and uninformed support staff.

Email (subject - A nurse who should not be) sent today to Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, Patient Relations - It is regrettable that a small percentage of your staff is in total violation of your hospital written values of "Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence", and this is giving the place an increasingly bad reputation. Case in point is our experience at the Jo-Brant Emerg yesterday with the way one of the nurses performed an IV insertion on my wife's hand and arm. The sloppiness with which she jammed the needle into the veins several times was truly alarming. There was blood dripping on the floor but she shockingly acted completely oblivious to the fact until I pointed it out to her to do something about it - to which she responded with a "Is she anaemic?" and a "I am usually not this messy"! Seriously? My wife's hand and arm were bleeding long after the insertion and was causing much pain. This should not have been, had the IV insertion been done the proper way instead of jamming the needle as if the patient was cattle. A construction worker could have done a better job. The worse part was that this lady did not for once offer an apology. The saving grace was only when another nurse who offered to attend to my wife to clean up the blood on the arm and to provide a fresh bandage - all with such kind words. This nurse truly showed that she belonged there, unlike the first one who was just dragging her feet, was rude and sarcastic with patients, did not show any compassion or respect, and worse - was gossiping and discussing personal affairs with other colleagues while on duty and in front of patients. She clearly does not belong in the profession, let alone in the Emerg. Please do not let a few bad apples spoil the majority of excellent staff that you have. I write this with the sincere hope that the hospital takes patients' and visitors' genuine feedback seriously and does more than providing mere lip-service by taking corrective action to improve real-service that lives up to its stated values of "Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence".

For fracture clinic: my appointment was for 11:00 AM to get my wrist looked at,, it is now 12:06 PM and I am still waiting for doctor. If its just first come first serve, why do they call for appointment times.. I came here after taking a brief leave from work saying I will be back soon.. but its already an hour of waiting and still counting..!

Scott O'Donnell

The NICU staff were absolutely amazing.

Tom Foley

Emergency department was brutal....absolutely one of the worst experiences of my life. Emergency triage nurse not only did not understand the meaning of the word "triage", but was absolutely void of any sympathy towards human suffering. I was allowed to suffer the worst pain I've ever experienced (kidney stones) while moaning and rolling around on the floor sweating for 2 hours on a Sunday morning at 6am. The only reason I think they finally took me in was because other patients were getting upset that I was allowed to suffer for that long without any help. Why isn't no stars option. 1 star is way too generous. Worst emergency hospital staff ever.

Darcy

Total rubbish hospital. Wrong cause of death diagnosed for a family member - paid for a private autopsy via UHN and they got it right. Go anywhere else but here. Evil!!!

I had a three day hospital visit that started in emergency and ended with a surgery. While this should have been a traumatic experience, there were a number of things that this hospital had in place that made it very manageable. There is a sign that is posted in the emergency waiting room that says Feel free to ask if you have any questions. During the 14 hours I was there I went up periodically to get updates or see if there is anything going on with my situation. Every time i did this the staff gave me a proper answer and never made me feel that i was being intrusive or bothering them. This carried over to every other staff member that i had an encounter with. Between the porters, nurses and doctors, technicians ... The porters were overly nice and cheerful The technicians were more than patient and didnt rush through things The nurses were out of this world. Especially the night shift nurse who made me feel like i was staying in a luxury resort. The doctors handled my situation better than what i was expecting All in all, every facet of my stay was above my expectation. The only caveat being that everything took a long time. Not sure if things are any different though in any hospital in the area.

I was at Joseph brant hospital for emergency! What I experienced was very uncomfortable. At this time I do not want anybody to go through what happened to me.

Ger Zhao

My husband and I had our first child at Joseph Brant hospital and it was a wonderful experience. The nurses were so kind and amazing throughout the whole process. The doctor was wonderful as well throughout the labour but the nurses were really outstanding in their care!

Amrita Thakur

I gave birth to DS 3 weeks ago here. The nurses were amazing in labor and delivery. She took utmost care and was cheerfull. Also explained everything to me and my husband. I was surprised by the knowledge of my nurse Malisa. She was so accurate about everything . Dr.Wu is a very intelligent and calm person. Overall a great experience.

Ashan Gill

Some nurses are rude but that's understandable considering they're working very hard. Other then that, its a hospital and saves lives, it does its job.

RoamingHermit

A horrible hospital, a nightmare, quite literally the worst hospital I've ever encountered at times. Their doctors discriminates against disabled people, people with autoimmune diseases and treat their patients terribly. I wouldn't ever take my mother here if I couldn't stay there with her the ENTIRE TIME because they'd be more likely to KILL her rather than help. The only reason this isn't one star is because their nurses are AMAZING. I mean their doctors will straight up argue with you about your own conditions or diseases, even if they've been diagnosed and confirmed by other doctors for decades and have withheld pain meds from chronic pain patients before. *Edit: Their Endoscopy department is great though*

Daffy Dill

Thank you to everyone that cared for me during my Day Surgery. I received exceptional care from all the staff. I felt like a VIP. My difficult & risky surgery was flawless with the help of the expert doctor, nurses & technicians. I was in great hands!????❤️

Karyn White

Filthy place. Killed my father by being unable to keep him clean. What more can I say...oh right, the staff are mostly underpaid, bitter and generally just horrible.

Joanne Hache

My mother was admitted to the emergency on Tuesday morning at 8:30, and had tests done and her broken leg reset and casted all by noon. The personnel was great during her stay in emerg for the day. Once transferred up to a room on 5S, the nursing continued to be great. She was there another three days and all but one meal was very good. She still has her appetite and welcomed the variety in the meals.

Laura Palbom

I can’t understand why they are so rude when I am just calling to get information about the doctor I had seen. She was mocking me and I am just politely asking a simple question. Wow!

Greg G (JJ)

Great hospital. I had a good experience with an emergency visit a year ago however wasn’t up to doing a review at the time. I was seen fairly quickly and treated properly with a follow up referral to a specialist. I highly recommend this hospital.

Hassan Muhammad

Worst hospital in the world!! Plz save your and your loved ones lives and take the patient somewhere else.. I can write essays on how bad this is!!

Kate Sciamanna

Showed up for my 9:30 pm appointment at around 9:05 as I wasn’t sure how long it was going to take to park/walk/check in as I’d never been here before. Did my covid screen and she let me know that due to covid protocols they may not let me in to CT this early. No prob. Get checked in at the registration desk who says to go right in as there was no one else waiting. Didn’t even have time to pull my phone out before I was already being called to CT! CT was about 5 min and I was out & finished my 9:27! NEVER HAVE I LEFT A DRS BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT TIME! Super efficient. Hospital was very clean and did not have that queesy hospital smell. Everyone I came in contact with with pleasant. Thanks J Brant!

Nicely renovated hospital with lots of amenities for the locals 10/10

Horrible experience. I had to take my wife to ER and the one advice I have is STAY AWAY from that ER! Blood work was a "debate" between two students...who gets to do it if it's not too hard. Seriously? Unprofessional/unmotivated staff, no timely updates, sat in the waiting room for 3 hours, and when we finally saw the doctor she asked us if we did "the ultrasound"... Waited 3hrs and NO ONE ever mentioned anything about an ultrasound. Doc said to change into a gown and she "will be right back and then the ultrasound will be done"...little did we know "right back meant" 1hr 45 mins. We spent another hour waiting to get an ultrasound done. This now puts us at around 6hrs and still no diagnosis, and my wife was clearly suffering! We thought about leaving, but we couldn't - I couldn't leave without having my wife checked out. My wife health actually got worst while waiting. Unreal. Never going back there again and if you value your time, find another ER. Final waiting time ended up being 6.5hrs + about $40 for parking and told us toncome.back tomorrow for an ultrasound...guess what? we are going somewhere else.. $3/30 mins for parking...cash grab.

I will write this review, based upon one person. Dr. K******. Or however you spell his name. He is awful. a true reason why cops, nurses, doctors, etc. Get talked down to. He didn't sympathize with his patient. He was a truly disrespectful person, as much as I was nuts, which I admit, I was out of it.. it's in your nature and profession to understand people like that. The night I went in, I just needed someone to tell me it was okay. My mum was in the hospital, and feeling as low as I was. I didn't need someone calling me names, and not understanding I wasn't myself, because I wasn't. But don't hate me for that. It's your job to deal with people in distress, that's why you became a doctor.. and to write me off so quick, well.. I just needed someone to talk to me. However.. I had the most amazing paramedics, and crisis doctors. People who made me feel safe and let me be who I am, and let me freak out and calm down. Let me just allow myself to express my problems without judgement. I support the Crisis team at Joseph Brant they are awesome!! And the psychiatrist who saw me. thankyou, and thankyou for just being calm and talking to me, you were understanding. And that's all i wanted when I got there. Thanks to those who deserve it.

Brandon Waller

Professional and friendly staff, however extremely slow, had to wait 5 hours to be seen by a doctor.

trevor Walker

It's an amazing place

Megan Barrett

Beautiful hospital and the nurses are amazing. Only problem was the doctor himself... he could use some work on his beside manors.

Brent Gardner

I would like to say my son was there last night, we waited 4 hours almost and not one person was called in. We brought him due to a tumour like growth under his chest. They were then rude when asking how long.

Meredith

Was in for day surgery, the process; (check-in, blood work, wait time, admitting, surgery room, recovery), staff, nurses, anesthesiologist, surgeon, all integrated perfectly. Beautiful hospital. Proud.

Irene Wu

The service was absolutely horrible. My mother came in with a crooked tooth because she fell and hit her face. The reception was rude but checked her out at first and told us to wait. We waited for four hours until it was like 1 a.m. then we got moved to a different room to continue waiting, for absolutely no reason. The nurse did not even care to explain why we had to move. Then after a while, she came back to us and said we would need to see a dentist because there is nothing the doctor could do. The hospital stuff waited FOUR HOURS to tell us that...literally wasted so much of our time. The reception could have informed us about it right in the beginning, but she did not. Therefore, overall it was a very disappointing experience as we were treated with extremely rude, cold and unprofessional stuff.

Cady Larsen

I ended up fainting and stopped breathing my friends helped the whole time they were really rude towards them telling them it's my f*****g problem didn't let anyone see me 10/10 would not recommend ever going to this hospital again

Ron “RJ” Jenkins

Nice newly renovated hospital. Easy access and caring staff.

Hasit Shah

Very modern facilities in a brand new building! Staff is good, good service

naim likaj

Unprofessional rude very unhelpful staff, God help us all ,hope we don't need them.

Avoid going here!! Came here at 2am (thinking wait times would be shorter).. Not 1 person in the waiting room! I still sat and waited for 4 hours before I could see a doctor. The reception is Rude and will ignore you forever if you're a minority! The few doctors are NOT knowledgable, caring or sympathetic. Avoid!

My mom recently went in with a badly broken ankle...left for nearly 12 hours on a gurney in a hallway with nurses refusing to acknowledge her pain (which was to the degree of throwing up). Absolutely unacceptable treatment from a health care facility.

JALPAN (J)

Nurses in the emergency unit will give you STROKE by injecting big air bubble with the medication. (they are supposed to take out air from the injection before giving it in to the patient's blood stream). My brother was admitted there and thank god i saw the nurse before she injected air bubble in my brother.

vanessa irivarren

Absolutely the worst ED experience ever. Went there at 9pm with my husband who was sent there by an on call dentist to start him on antibiotics due to a facial abscess. The pain and swelling was unbelievable yet we sat there until 1am when he was finally called in, only to continue sitting the entire night on a small chair without being seen once by the doctor. No one offered him anything for pain (no tylenol no ice pack NOTHING) and finally at 7am the nurse casually mentioned he (or anyone waiting there with us) would not be seen until the next doctor comes in for the next shift at 8am. Why even have an emergency department if you won't see patients who come in at 9pm until 8am the next morning????? We ended up just leaving and will never return to that emergency department.

Carolyn D'Orazio

Took my son to emergency at 1:00 a.m. for an ear infection. After 3 hours of waiting, we walked out. The emergency room was full and people had been waiting longer than us. I had the feeling that they were just going to wait until a doctor showed up in the morning. Not great!

Tony Windsor

I've had three kids born at Joe Brant, had a broken ankle dealt with in ER and the fracture clinic this week and had a young baby suffering with croup dealt with in the middle of the night one New Years Day. Plus the other "routine" operations and stuff. I cannot say as I've ever had a bad experience. The staff have always been very pleasant, professional and I've come out better than I went in! Sure, there is a bit of a wait sometimes, but, it is OHIP!!!! (and yes, a lot of people seem to go to ER that really don't need to...)

Best hospital for me ,as they saved my mum's life..so thank you Joseph Brant hospital Especially ICU staff and manager Erin Plus social worker Veronica who works for ICU Stay blessed

Anne Cleo Evanoff

It really is unfortunate that patient care there is so poor - the new building is beautiful and the view of the lake is quite calming. The layout of the building is confusing for employees and clients and often directions lead you astray. The price of parking might be unaffordable for many seniors or low income clients - $1 for 10 minutes.

My Wife had a scheduled C Section for our Son's Birth last week. We had the best service provided by Nurses and Doctors. Due to Covid, everyone was wearing Masks all the time. First we went to the Admitting Department to submit all the forms and they had booked a room for us in the Labour Ward. Once in the Labour ward, we were given all the instructions and hospital gowns to wear. They walked my wife first to the operating theatre and I joined her few minutes later (once she had an epidural). There were 8 people in the room excluding us. Within 15 minutes, we heard our son's cry. They cleaned him, I allowed the cord to be cut by the nursing intern (She was very Happy). It took about 40 minutes to close up my wife as we had our first child with C section as well. After the surgery, they bought all of us back to the Labour Unit and within 30 minutes, they took us to the Maternal Unit. we stayed there for 36 hours and discharged the next day. Overall the doctors and nurses did a fantastic job and the service was impeccable.

I can't tell you the amount of gratitude I have for the medical staff at this hospital. Great surgeons, amazing nurses, cleaning staff, porters etc. Thank you all so much. My only complaint is that when I was waiting in a room at the end of the ER hallway? There was a doctor that was walking back and forth swearing a lot to himself, and when he was on the phone with another doctor he was laughing about an elderly lady not being able to drink her colon prep because she couldn't stop vomiting anything she was ingesting pretty much. I wish I had his name, it's concerning to hear a doctor speak (and laugh!) about something like that.

Alison Turner

I am only giving this 1 star, and that one star is purely for the PA that was working with one of the doctors. She saved the score. Although, the care, and the wait....absolutely terrible. I go in with unbearable nausea, triaged right away, registered right away, bloodwork right away, seeing the PA AND DOCTOR right away, this was all in the first hour and i was very pleased. They sent me for an ultrasound, again, this happened within the first hour which i was impressed with. BUT afterwords i waited almost 5 hours for the results. was told my results were in by a nurse and i was just waiting for the doctor to come talk to me, an hour and a half later still haven't been spoken too, BUT a women with a broken wrist that had to see a surgeon and that came after me was gone with her results and a cast before me, a women that got her ultrasound right after i did, got her results basically right away and was sent home....theres me sitting there still waiting. Went to ask how long it would be...was told im actually up for re-assessment....which i was im getting the results that i would good to go. Watched a doctor stand and talk to a nurse about his trip to the cottage for half an hour, heard the nurses talking about how SLOW it was, yet i was still there waiting for results FOR 5 HOURS. The best part about it all....(sarcasm) is that i was in for extreme nausea BUT the gave me pain meds that made me more nauseous and nothing for my nausea at all. Honestly it will be awhile until i decide to visit this ER again, i will drive over to oakville and deal with the 30 minute drive for a better experience.

Andrew D

The hospital itself is nice and has been recently renovated, the staff was friendly and treated me pretty well but here's the problem it took me about 10 minutes of just walking around in circles trying to find the emergency department there are no signs saying where to go for emergency finally I had to ask one of the construction workers and he had to walk me to the emergency because there's no other way of knowing where it is. There was a long wait but there was only one doctor working that night So a long wait was expected I got there around 11 p.m. and I got out by about 2:30am which I thought was all right I was already in the second waiting room within like an hour or so but even while I was there they just kept me waiting.

Quantum

Excellent staff, however, I overheard some other patients complain about the lack of confidentiality when going to the ER - they complained about being able to hear about the details of other patients' diagnoses and felt insecure about others being able to hear their own details.

I love it

On November 22nd I had day surgery for an A&C at Joseph Brant Hospital. I was treated by the on-call OBGYN Dr. Elizabeth Markowski. My husband and I were both very anxious & nervous about the procedure but Dr.Markowski and all the nurses were super helpful and kind, they put us at ease and the procedure went very well. I would also like to mention the anesthesiologist Dr. Patel, she was very kind speaking and before the procedure kept me calm and assured me that everything would be fine. I am very happy and thankful for the care I received from the staff at Joseph Brant :)

John Vint

I had total knee replacement surgery last week. After reading some of the poor reviews I feel I have to explain what my experience was like. I was treated by professionals who did everything they possibly could to make my stay as pleasant as possible. I mean everyone, from the administration personal to the OR nurse who held me when the spinal was administered, who saw the fear in my eyes, and made made feel that everything was going to be ok. The Surgeon was fantastic from the consultation process to performing the surgery. The nurses who cared for me after the surgery in recovery, the nurses who took care of me once I got to my room a couple of hours later. The people who brought me my breakfast, lunch and dinner were polite, thoughtful and pleasant. I guess I should say the food isn't what I am used to, but everyone knows it's a hospital not a restaurant. I do not have a negative thing to say and I think they treat everyone in need of care the same way. If you don't really need immediate care, your experience will probably be different than mine. The staff at Joe Brant are professional enough to know who does and who doesn't!

Dillon Dubois

Terrible bad hospital can't accomplish anything can't even post covid19 results over the years have even been responsible for messing up simple surgeries for people in my family score -100000000 There 10 hours not one helpful test nor even get my results

Amazing hospital with great staff…. Cannot be more thankful for all the work done by Nurses and Doctors for complete normal delivery of my twins… The nurses in antenatal and postnatal wards are so hard working and sweet spoken… Want to thank Doctor Christine Dejong, Doctor Adele Nguyen and Doctor Bailey for taking so much effort. Nurse Melissa, Nurse Brian, Nurse Annu and all others whose names I don’t remember were amazing. Want to thanks all other staff like receptionist, food servers, cleaners for taking care of everything… I am thankful to the whole hospital staff for giving me and my family all the care we need…

I would recommend Joseph Brant Hospital to anyone in need of care. I had a critical illness that began in December 2013, which saw me in a coma and hospital care for 42 days before being discharged. If it wasn't for the talented men and women and who provided care and went above and beyond I would not be here today. From the bottom of my heart, my family and I thank you.

Worst hospital I've ever been to! They make you wait hours to be told the same stuff you knew. The doctors don't inform the other doctors, so you basically repeat same stuff over and over. The doctor show up whenever they feel like it. The nurses just sit around chatting and not doing their job. Half of them are nice and the other half are arrogant, so it's a 50/50 chance. The fracture clinic is something out of a comedy skit... They open 9:30am-5:30pm and yet they don't register people or take calls till about 12! Plus the doctor doesnt even come till about 1pm! Then when you do get called in, it's a 5 minute visit and then they leave you before you can ask questions. So a 5 min visit after a 5 hour wait is just great. They don't care about the patients at all, just another face and paycheck. Save your time and go to a better hospital.

My day surgery turned into a 15 day visit. Staff in ICU and Surgery recovery were excellent, perhaps with the exception of 1 RN. Attentive, caring, compassionate. Some training is required. Don't assign RNs to patients that do not have any experience with the issues you have been admitted for.

Waited in emergency for 7 hours with father who has chest pain Unbelievable

I was advised to head to the emergency room because I was having some heart issues by my family doctor. I arrived at 4:30pm. I was seen promptly and was taken right from registration to the secondary waiting room. From there I waited about 45 mins and was taken to do blood work and a cardiogram. I then went back to the waiting room for about 20 mins and then to my own room. Just after 6:30 I was out of there. I was incredibly impressed! While there I saw people getting blood test/urine done before even being moved to their own room. This helps things along so much! The rooms are so modern and everything seemed very clean and sterile. I only gave 4 stars because even I wonder if today was too good to be true. Before the remodel this place was a nightmare. I will know for sure when I go back ( hopefully not for awhile). I also want to say the nurses and doctor I had were top notch it seems like new hires have gone a long way!

Today, on May 26th 2021, my mother has had her day surgery at North Tower 2nd floor. My mother Nuran Isildar (80 years old) and me highly appreciate all staff at day-surgery on second floor. Dr.Sowery and his team of today have answered all our questions and given us all their support. Special thanks for the anesthesia team. God bless you all ❤️????

A cesspool of despair. It's shocking how much people here don't care about anyone.

Would rate negative star if I could. Nurses are arguing with each other, waited in the emergency room for 3 hours! What kind of emergency room is this? All the other patients including the ones after me were taken to see the doctors. Honestly I wouldn’t recommend this hospital at all! Worst hospital in Ontario! Extremely disappointed!

Britt Huggins

A huge shout out to my midwives Tracy, Anne and Emmy along with the staff in the maternity ward. I had a fabulous birthing experience. I never thought that I would look back on a labor and feel like it was perfect (especially compared to my first delivery). Thank you so much for taking such great care of me and my family!

Anupa Simon

The first couple times I went to the hospital it was good. Laura at the hand clinic was very friendly and helpful with my hand injury and there was no wait time. However for my last appointment I was running a little late as I was driving from Brampton encountering some traffic on the 403, and she had left before I got there (knowing I was driving from far leaving from work). Extremely disappointed as I have issues with my hand that needed to be discussed, and I was only 15 minutes late for a 3:30pm appointment. She has not returned my calls, so now I have to try and find another specialist via Walk-In doctors as mine is on mat leave.

I wanted to rate the breastfeeding clinic at the hospital. Since birth I had hard time breastfeeding. Nurses and pediatricians came and check my daughter multiple times and put her on breast. Unfortunately after leaving the hospital things got worse and we came back with dehydration. I got admitted to hospital for one night. The next day I made appointment at breastfeeding clinic. The consultant check my daughter and then show some techniques of breastfeeding. The outcome of the meeting was that for 40 min my daughter only ate 5ml. I was advised to exclusively pump. I was devastated! After 2 weeks I found out my daughter has a tough tie! I have no idea why nobody seen that or suggested to check at the dentist. And that "specialist" at the breastfeeding clinic should get basic knowledge. Their mistake cost me not being able to breastfeed.

Green Bastard

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE INJURED! Not overly friendly triage nurse (that's putting it mildly) greets you and you will be there for quite some time. I've had better luck in Stoney Creek. Hope this helps.

Nicole Murray

Came to the emergency department as my eye is severely swollen and I cannot see very well out of my eye. I was taken quickly to a room within 20 mins. BUT after I was placed in a room, it’s been OVER 2 hours now, and I still haven’t seen a doctor. To note, there’s multiple doctors on shift, and only two patients in this section of emergency (myself and one other person), and it’s still been over 2 hours of laying here, waiting with an eye swollen shut without seeing a doctor. In comparison, I usually go to Oakville hospital, and always within an hour (with a full set of patients) I have been seen by the doctor. This is ridiculous. Smh Update: just under 3 hours later - I’m free! The doctor wasn’t sure what was wrong, and gave me a prescription. Only people who deserve this star is the amazing male and female nurse who started my paperwork when I arrived, they were both so kind. Even as I was leaving, the male nurse asked how I was doing, and when I said the doctor didn’t know what what was wrong and gave me a prescription. He came over, checked it, and then explained what it was for in the nicest, and easiest way. So thankful for that man.

After totally smashing my ankle last summer in a motorcycle accident, I was terrified I'd never walk right again. Everyone I came in contact with, from the paramedics that brought me in to Joseph Brant, the X-ray Technicians with gentle hands and the ER staff, who quickly straightened and temporarily casted my leg so I could return home to my own comfortable bed that evening, were incredibly kind and caring. I returned the next morning and Dr Smith was able to take me on at the end of his scheduled day surgeries. While I waited, the porters with their sense of humour and the exceptional nursing staff were attentive and kept me comfortable. I could hear soft conversation and ocasional laughter and never once felt like I wouldn't be able to get help if I needed it. I felt these were people cultivating a cheery work culture and doing an awesome job in spite of covid challenges, staff shortages, etc. Dr Smith and his surgical team put me back together with a plate and 11 screws. Wow! It was somewhere around 10 PM. A long day for everyone! I'm happy to say I'm now walking normally and pain free. Thank you so very, very much to ALL the incredibly kind and dedicated people at Joseph Brant!!!

something is wrong here, please fix it.

Kassandra Finkle

Our son was born there preterm (34.5 weeks) 2.5 years ago, and we had a wonderful team. Yesterday afternoon we had to take him to the ER and the nurses and doctors were fantastic, we were well cared for. It's hard to say finding out your son has pneumonia was a pleasant experience, but our experience with the ER made it less stressful and as positive as it could be.

Bridgette Macdonald

If I only had one breath left before I die, I would use it to say “Don’t bring me to Joseph Brant”

Gregory Knobloch

My Elderly parents have been here many times for various problems and the staff here are simply the best. So caring, friendly and accomodating.

Kevin Brown

The info staff, helpful. Records keeping/imagery department people, nice and efficient; they earned the 2 stars. That's where my experience ends on a positive note, no stars for Dr. Nagji or the Emrg. Desk Nurse. I can not even talk about the emergency desk nurse on my revisit to discuss the inappropriate findings by Dr. Nagji, the one that was there was a bad apple who was looking to pick a fight with people, so I left, hope I never have to return there, I don't want to relive the trauma. The day before, April 14th, 2016, I was admitted after experiencing chest pains and having muscle spasms from heat stroke, brought on by exposure while working in an extremely hot and humid indoor pool/hot tub area for almost 2 hours. The emergency Dr., Dr. Alim Nagji is a young doctor, and he wasn't taking things seriously. He was missguided by his own cock sure assumptions and didn't think he needed to hear about anything unless he was saying it. Didn't ask about the history of the injury, only cared about the chest pain and only that. Dr. Nagji assessed for a cardio event, and it was NOT a cardio event. He proves that it's not a cardio event, and considered the case resolved and the patient is magically cured after his 'blinders on' assessment! I was still in pain, I could barely walk, had slurred speech and was not able to even advocate effectively in my dehydrated and over heated state, and I was still asking for help and assistance while being told I could go home. This was an abuse of patient rights, he basically abandoned me after deciding it was easier to tell the victim of medical neglect to 'get a family doctor' after writing a 'no injury' claim for WSIB, which was based on his narrow, and limited scope, injury assessment. To make a comparison, if you bring a car into the mechanic's that doesn't work because the radiator blew out, and the cylinder head is fused to the engine block... doing what Dr. Alim did, is like testing the car's electrical system, finding nothing wrong with the battery or the alternator... and then claiming the car is 'good to go'! When the car is NOT good to go! I have been crippled since this heat stroke, and the WSIB has locked me out of help/benefits, and one of the main reasons for this, is Dr. Alim Nagyji's lack of interest in patient care. Jo Brant is still a decent hospital from my experiences with other staff there. I think there is just some kind culture of negativity towards patients in the emergency area, a place where you'd least want it. Hopefully what I experienced doesn't happen all the time.

Farooq Azam

very nice hospital on the lake.

J H

I went to emergency waited 6 hours to be told nothing was wrong. Was very upset no privacy at all when the doctor was talking to me or other people I could hear there whole conversation as well as they could hear my conversation & results. Ended up going to another emergency 2 days later for the same thing. They found out I had a cyst behind my knee that ruptured. They were very courteous & private I was in a room & they closed the door so only myself & the doctor were only hearing the conversation. Will never ever go to Joseph Brant again

Justin Emmett D'Angelo

Came into the hospital via ambulance for emergency hernia symptoms. Sharp pain in testicles with nausea and diarrhea. My family doctor provided a letter asking that my incarcerated hernia be looked after. Young surgeon on duty didn't feel comfortable performing a repair surgery, suggesting it was not a hernia but a kidney stone or infection. No infection or stone found. Admitted into care for 24 hours on IV and released for "abdominal pain" with no course of action to resolve the problem that caused emergency in first place. Skip this place and go to Hamilton. At least their hospitals are clean and don't smell like urine and feces. Rumor was that C-deficile outbreak was happening but no formal mention. I'll never go back to this hell hole again.

Andrew Travis

One of the worst experiences I've ever had. NEVER COME HERE IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE. Came into the ER via ambulance at 1:00AM with symptoms of a concussion. There didn't seem to be many patients waiting but I still ended up waiting 2.5 hours to be seen by any doctor. A CT scan was ordered at 330AM and I am still at the hospital waiting at 800Am. That's a 4.5 hour wait and counting and I've been here for a total of 7 hours with zero answers. Doctor said systems were down and then he said the systems were running the entire time. I approached the nursing desk and they told me they are "just waiting on the results". Of what I asked, I never had a scan. They had forgotten about me. They said I would be seen at just after 7AM. I have recorded three different answers to when I would receive my scan and it doesnt appear like any of the staff takes any responsibility for seeing a task through. This is the answer I got from the doctor...I tell the nurses, they order the scan. The nurses said they called for the scan so it's now their responsibility. This hospital is completely unprofessional, unhelpful, rude and if you have the ability to drive to the Oakville hospital, I would do that.

I wish i could give this hospital 50 stars ..yes i had two surgeries here and i can tell that all nurses were so kind, humble and polite..????..nurses and my surgeon deserve an award ..

Hi I was born here... respecc

Moriganna Brown

There nurses are great however the food was horrible and the person next to me kept me up all night screaming. Overall not a great experience. The doctors and nurses are great though hence two stars.

Shane Stahl

Yes the wait times can pretty long sometimes, but I had a very good experience tonight. The nurses where very friendly and accommodating. The doctor was also great. They let me use there phone when mine died to let my ride know Id be late, and to just go to sleep. They called me a cab after too. They seem to be doing the best they can, Thanks everyone at Joe Brant ER, especially the night shift crew. What would we do without you ❤ 2:45am May 14th, 2021

Had an MRI today and the MRI itself was amazing. The staff member made me feel welcome, respected and genuinely cared for (unlike McMaster x 3 different appointments and it never happening - whole other story there). He was funny and kind and made me feel relaxed. The hospital itself was pretty organized with all the moving parts with COVID-19 Vx and emergency room among other services. However, the parking is a gong show. I purposely went online prior to todays appointment to research the parking situation. Nowhere... and I mean nowhere did I see that you can only pay with cash or credit card. I was at St Joe's in Hamilton yesterday for an EMG and it took debit. I had to walk around like a goof ball looking for an ATM or make a purchase with cashback??? Com'mon its 2021 people!!! This inconvenience caused more anxiety and stress to someone who already was stressed enough with medical issues. Not cool guys... still had to pay the $10.50 with stress tax ????

If i could give this hospital a minus rating i would. My father is a minority who was rushed there by ambulance due to the fact that he was stuck by a car and pinned between two vehicles. The nurses were too busy taking care of individuals who had less peiorities ex. A bunion because they werent minorities. As the paramedics had given him ice, after the same had melted we asked for more from a nurse who had nothing but attitude and seemed to be rationing the same asking why we require the same. After which she was explained that the paramedics told him to ice his knee on and off for 20 minutes. If she had spoken to anyone regarding my father or had little to close attention instead of registering him into the system after two hours she would have known that. We were afraid he had a concussion. I would rather drive to brampton and wait an entire day then return here.

John Kelly

Love the new building and the staff are great...but you charge for WIFI?!?

Donna Young

It's not so bad here really

Parminder Chahal

Joseph brant staff doesn’t have humanity... my personal experience I went with my wife her c section stick got infected... We went to emergency with our newborn baby, there was one young guy who was having abdominal pain n we was vomiting his father was requesting the staff that he can’t bear the pain pls ask someone to see him... no one was ready to listen after 2.45hrs doctor called him inside for check up... guys if you have any serious pain or any other emergency please don’t visit Joshep brant...

Luis Alberto Betancourth

Just got back from the ER we were the onlyones there with my mom who is still in terrible pain and crying unfortunately after almost 6 hours of waitting for a doctor to see her and no check Up on her or any pain medicine. You can change your appearance all you want and invest all the money in the world but if your service sucks and your attention to paitiens doesn't improve you still will be the worse place to go to because all you are doing is looking good on the out side but you are still terrible on the inside. Improve your attention and care for the patience and people that come to you since you are a hospital. Do your Job properly.

Lairdriver

I am amazed at the amount of people complaining here. They seem to forget how the triage system works. Most of the people complaining on here had a cold or the flu, or a scratch on the knee. No they won't see you first if your eye is sore and somebody is bleeding out of their mouth sitting beside you. After the C-Deficile crisis and extra funding from the province Joseph Brant has become one of the most organized hospitals I have ever been to. Hospitals are doing the best they can with the money they are being given. If you have a real problem, complain to your local MP or don't vote Liberal next time around. I have a serious illness and have been in and out of JBH several times over the last year. I have always been treated very well. The Doctors there have been very thorough and have done their best. People giving hospitals in Canada 1 star ratings is ridiculous. Get on a plane and fly over to Kenya or Romania and you will see true one star hospitals.

Irina GT

I delivered my daughter at this hospital a couple of weeks ago. I must say the experience was wonderful. Except for one nurse who tried to send me home in labour, the rest of stay was outstanding. The gestational diabetes team, NICU nurses and the breastfeeding clinic staff were all great. Everyone was knowledgeable, polite, friendly and very helpful. I was hesitant to deliver here after reading the reviews but would highly recommend this hospital after having actually dealt with it.

Mona Lenny

Saw the reviews and went to Joseph Brant anyway. Extremely disorganized; one dep't has no idea what the other is doing. Lost requisitions, confusion and no responsibility taken on either side. I was terrified I'd have to have my appendix removed there & was prepared to exercise my patient's rights by moving to another hospital. In summary: Never. Again.

Adriana F.

Very dissapointed in the last few experiences I had at your hospital. I am using crutches and have a brace on each knee. My right knee is immobilized, I can't bend or move it. At the ER on Saturday none of the 3 nurses I saw bothered to offer some ice for the injury, were going to let me leave without a brace even though I can't put any weight on one of my knees. I had to ask for a brace, which of course I paid for. I didn't actually see a doctor at all. She gave a verbal order for an x-ray and that's about it. They then made me an appointment to a specialist for Wednesday at 4 (today), only to be turned away at the fracture clinic due to a scheduling error. As I was trying to not burst into tears, the staff were too busy pointing fingers at each other blaming ER for scheduling me incorrectly. I now get to hobble back to the parking lot go home with no questions answered, no tests done and with the pain that increases every day. They didn't bother to get me to see someone else in the hospital they just simply said come back Friday. Thanks Joseph Brant for a not so stellar experience.

Elaine Potter

I made a recent visit to the emergency department with moth pain that was becoming increasingly severe. Despite the pain, I knew it wasn't life threatening, and so I did not expect my case to be at the front of the line. And it wasn't. However, I received attentive and compassionate care at every step. When I was finally seen by Dr. Ravinder Mand, he ordered an ultrasound to confirm his diagnosis of a blocked/infected saliva gland. Once confirmed, he arranged for an I.V. antibiotic course in hospital with follow-up treatment at home. This was accomplished in the midst of countless other cases, most if not all far more serious than mine. It was the best investment of 5 hours I could possibly make. Thank you Dr. Mand and the staff at J.B Emergency Department. You do great work under difficult circumstances. Tom Potter

My 90 year old father had a fall today and broke his shoulder. Taken to hospital by ambulance at 1:30 pm, I tried to see him about 40 min later and told to come back by the volunteer at the ER front desk in 15 min. I went back as requested and was told that I was not able to visit him. No visits allowed unless critical. This is not documented on your website. The volunteer could provide no status. That's unacceptable. The only information I had was from the police officer who said she thought he broke his arm. After calls to the ER I was able to talk to his doctor about 2 hrs later, who explained he had broken his shoulder. I asked if he would like a list of his meds and he said yes. I drove back to the hospital and provided them to the gatekeeper. I had the list before when I was there, but not able to provide them. I was able speak to my Dad at 10:30 pm who has now been admitted. He complained He was in terrible pain in ER and was largely ignored. He was unable to get anyone's attention. At one point when he got someone's attention, he was told maybe you should be running the hospital, by one nurse in a sarcastic tone. I've never had a reason to complain about JBH before, but this is beyond reproach. In the past I’ve had nothing but praise for JBH but I think not being able to be there as an advocate has made staff complacent while working in isolation from family. Update: I received a call from JBH patient relations and follow-up investigation has found areas that can be improved and will be. I have revised my rating accordingly because of the action taken. Thanks to JBH that continue (now) to provide excellent care to my father.

Banafsheh Rafe

Wonderful and supportive emergency staff, doctors and nurses. Ended up there last Saturday night due to a horrible asthma attack. They took care of me, my hubby, and friend with professionalism and compassion. I was discharged around 3:00 am, feeling safe and relieved. Many thanks to Dr. Al-tukmachi for bringing me back to life. He also prescribed taking 7 sick days off, which helped me recover faster. I'm forever grateful.

Tyler zhang

Staff are kind, Ish. Control is awful. Do not come here

Not great!

Hatem Al Sharif

Admitting staff are the rudest I have ever dealt with

Rolando Tecson

Mediocre at best. For the only hospital in town they certainly don't try that hard. Not only is the hospital not centrally located but the place is a dead zone for reception and their free WiFi isn't free. Service is at least mildly efficient and usually cold with a hint of humanity. Layout isn't the best either and good luck getting transit here.

Ash Allsop

The problem with Joseph Brant Hospital is that the wait times in the emergency section are too long. From my own personal experience I showed up to the emergency section and wasn't seen until an hour after showing up. I had a shoulder that was fractured in three spots, a torn AC joint and my wrist was also fractured. Not only was I not seen for an hour, when I was seen I waited for another 3 for an XRay which confirmed that I fractured my shoulder. The doctor believed I only had dislocated it until he did his examination in which I was unable to move my shoulder up more than 5%. I was given a sling and was asked if I wanted oxycodone. Oxy is a hardcore narcotic and I told them I had a family history of addiction with it and left with a prescription which I never filled. The correct way to deal with the shoulder injury I had is to immobilize it as quickly as possible and only take drugs if you are in a significant amount of pain which isn't a problem unless you move your shoulder which you can't do if it is immobilized properly. The reason why I am giving Joseph Brant a 4-star rating is because the wait time in all likelihood cannot be prevented by the staff, they are doing their best and were polite and helpful. I had three additional appointments here in the span of the next three months, all three times I showed up 15m early and was in and out in under an hour from the fracture clinic which included Xrays with a student that was training as well as a sit down with a doctor to ask if I had any complaints. As a result of the advice I was given I no longer have shoulder pain four months after the accident which injured my arm, I did not do any physical therapy and my shoulder healed amazingly due to the diet which the doctor I talked to at the hospital supported. Tons of calcium and 150g+ of protein per day split up in 30g increments throughout the day with turmeric powder to cut back on any joint issues. The problem is the emergency department, it is too slow, my brother had the same experience when he was younger after smashing his face off of the concrete on a bike and nearly breaking his jaw and almost destroying all of his teeth.

Vanessa Reid

Amazing care in the maternity ward and NICU.

This hospital should be much, much better than it is. My aunt was here for a month and we worried everyday about the lack.of compassion and care she got. There are some good nurses who.enjoy their job and care, but mostly it seems they chose the wrong profession, sadly. Thankfully my aunt is at home recovering.

Denise Bolukbas

I went into Emerge because I was going into anaphylactic shock. The doctor was kind but the nurse caring for me was so passive and rude. I tried asking for her to write a list of the medications given to me as I need to keep a log for another medical reason, and she just listed off things instead of writing it down. Keep in mind I was half asleep from the medications they had given me. Luckily, my sister was with me and explained why I needed a detailed list in which her reply was "I'll see what I can do." She came back a few minutes later with a photocopy, dropped it on my lap and then left. Didn't even say bye or tell me where the exit was. When I walked past her in the hall, she didn't even look up at us. This is not the first time I've had a bad experience at this emergency room

Carey Moore

Went to have an ear infection assessed this evening at around 5:45pm. The air quality in the waiting room did not seem good, I often felt hot because I was not well. I asked the young girl at the triage where they take your info and that terrible speaker system did not do any justice for my ear!!! I asked fory health card back as I was going to go to the hospital closest to me in Grimsby. She asked for my name and threw my card without even asking if there was anything wrong! Maybe finding more compassionate individuals to work for the hospital would be beneficial for people who don't want to be there to begin with!

Jennifer Stanley

My 14 year old son who is an asthmatic and was brought in due to difficulty breathing and puffers were not working. The nursing staff was great. My son was in and out in under 6 hours and treated with a nebulizer and was feeling better. Although the doctor's bedside manner was not great...he got the job done and we left feeling better.

Yvonne Wu

Felt extremely unsafe. It has been over a year since I have been there and I still have nightmares. At a certain point my needs were ignored. This can be dangerous because these staff members are responsible for your care and are suppose to help you recover from your injury.

My father was transferred from Joseph Brant Hospital to a transition bed at Christopher Terrace the afternoon of Tues July 10th. On Fri July 13th he was sent back to the hospital with a high fever, low blood count and low oxygen levels as well as in 3 diapers. At the hospital they treated him for the above and Friday afternoon he was sent back to Christopher Terrace. The family was assured by both the hospital and Christopher Terrace that everything my father needed was in place at Christopher Terrace. When we arrived there we were informed that there was no oxygen for him. The company the Hospital uses was told they could not deliver the oxygen because Christopher Terrace uses a different company. The company Christopher Terrace uses would not get the oxygen to my dad for another 2 hours. The paramedics did not have enough oxygen to last 2 hrs so my dad was sent back to the hospital. Due to this my father became quite distressed and his condition worsened. The following week my father was at JBH and my sister and I were treated terribly by the staff. Whenever we approached them for information, assistance, reassurance or help they brushed us off. No one except for a hospital maintenance worker wanted to offer us any help. On July 19th my father passed away. Christopher Terraces manager told me that the hospital should not have "DUMPED" my father on their doorstep. No one is willing to step up and take responsibility for this calamity. Not the hospital or Christopher Terrace. It seems neither of them wanted my father. Also, my mother now has to pay for the transference of my father too and from Christopher Terrace as well as for the 2 1/2 days my father spent at Christopher Terrace. It feels like all these institutions care about is the bottom line. Not the human being. If I could I would have rated lower than 1 star.

The first time I ever went to Joseph brant was horrible experience, then next time it was beyond wonderful. This last time November 13th 2020 was the worst experience ever. Dr. Connie Tung is a poor excuse of a doctor. Telling me nothing is wrong with me but yet ultrasound and bloodwork said different. I'm glad that she was so horrible with her doctoring skills that, I ended up asking her for my two results one back from July 25th, when I noticed that the ct scan results said that I have a unremarkable left ovary but yet it was removed over 20 years ago . I knew then that your radiologist can't be trusted. Nor can your Er doctors . What ever happened, here I am reading these wonderful reviews but why do you continue to fail with my health care?

Marie Weeks

Joseph Brant hospital is the worse I have ever experienced. Slow ER, lack of ongoing information all a guessing game. My mom ended up staying in the new part of the hospital which was clean, plenty of nursing staff and daily cleaning. With exception of a few excellent and professional nurses there were many with attitude. Making my mom wait 1 hour past her pain medication. These are elderly people who are treated so poorly and family need to speak up...WHY? After 10 days she was taken to the rehab, 3rd floor 700 unit, in the old section. Her bed was falling apart, her sheets were not changed for 1 week until I raised concern. The washroom shared by 4 women was filthy! I did not see them disinfect the wheeled commode, that all the ladies shared. I was disgusted!!!! Lack of privacy was another factor. Older people have pride and dignity, close the curtains so anyone walking by doesn't see them exposed. The cleaning woman was not thorough, mopped in a huge circle leaving the floor around the bed dirty, The meal tray was seldom cleaned. This is a hospital where cleanliness is priority to maintain spread of disease. The nurses seem under lot of pressure, understaffed and some simply hate their job. The patients pay. Please put more money for proper staffing and up to date equipment like a working bed! My husband was in another hospital in Mississauga, I have to say I never seen such filth or rudeness. Reputation means a lot, to work in and to use for medical reasons. Shame that I had to voice my concern on social media.

Just wanted to share my experience at the hospital over this last weekend. I showed up at emergency Saturday with a very bad knee injury.. I was taken in fairly quickly and diagnosed ..it took a few hours but by the end of the day I was scheduled for surgery Sunday.Dr Pyper and all of OR on call staff were the best !!Being my first surgery I was nervous but they helped explain all that was being done..Thankyou so much I can't Express enough how much the staff helped make things so much easier..

Emergency room takes longer than those in bigger cities such as Toronto; was in ER 6 hours. Other patients had the same experience, with them calling in one new patient in every 40 minutes. No consideration for people’s time or their wellbeing. Staff seem clueless to even basic medical information such as what is considered “normal” blood pressure and temperature. Saw a little kid who had gotten into their parent’s pill cabinet with their father (who had called poison control) having to wait. On a time sensitive case such as that there should of been priority given. Hospital’s design is also a nightmare to navigate. There should be bigger signs for important areas such as the ER. Why are there signs all over letting you get to the nearest Tim Horton’s? But half the hospital has none telling you where the ER is!

Had a tattoo infection waited the standard 3 and half hours just for the doctor to ask if i can book an appointment with my family doctor, to which i explained he moved locations and I have a hard time getting there now. His response was, in his words "you should book an appointment with him and stop 'Poo poo ing around'" Very ignorant and unprofessional

Kevin Brown

I'd rather go to Oakville general, based on my experiences.

Great hospital, always taking care of our needs

Free the Spirit

Got both my vaccinations here and everyone was lovely. Very organized. Thank you for everything you’ve done!

Bret Rivard

ER wait times and patient management are a complete failure. The new emergency waiting room is smaller and a complete mess of disorganization. The only recommendation is get an ambulance or be prepared to wait a very long time.

Best Hospital In Canada ????????

I went here for severe pains which turned out to be meningitis. I waited 3 hours to be sent home with “We don’t deal with back pain” no testing at all. Thank you to the totally professional doctors who clearly don’t care about patients. Go to Oakville trafalgar instead.

I had surgery done at Joseph Brant and I must say it was as good an experience as one could have when getting a procedure done. Outstanding nurses, Doctors and staff. They explained everything so I understood about the procedure. Beautiful private room overlooking the Lake. Very calming.

Just spent almost 2 weeks in ICU and have to give full marks to all the nurses and staff for looking after me. I would also like to thank Dr Hong for his help in easing my breathing problems

I am a person with disabilty since 2004.... 90% of my life is laying down managing my pain. Sitting puts so much pressure on my stomache I get increased tingling in my face with exaberated pain I can only sit for short amounts of time. Standing I start to shake because of weakness and need to lay down after 10-15 minutes or I get feelings of vomiting. Yesturday I threw up three times from pain. I went to joeseph brant first seeking medical attention, they refused to give me a bed to lay on so I sat and stood as long as I could until I couldn't stand or sit anymore so I had to go to the ground, nurses started yelling at me saying they have no beds for me and all I said no one is telling me I can't lay down as I'm on the verge of throwing up or passing out. They called security, I left hospital and layed on bench across the street feeling nauseous and threw up, then called 911 ambulance later to get help. I went to oakville hospital afterwards and it was 5 times worse there, I arrived in ambulance from vomiting on myself in pain from leaving joeseph brant and I explain to them I'm on disability the hospital is the last place I want to be and I need a bed because I can't sit or stand for to long or my body shuts down, while waiting in emergency they made me sit for 4 hours while telling nursing staff my symptoms are exaberated 5 times while sitting and they would just walk away. When I got to my assesement I had 3 pages out of 20 of notes for the nurse to read that explains my injury, symptoms, etc..( I only wanted them to read the first 3 pages) nurse and doctor wouldnt even read the first sentence, I was discharge 10 minutes later with nothing but exabetated pain and I haven't slept because of the trauma of pain and psychological abuse from our medical system. I have serious pain and I would rather just cry in bed than go to the emergency. It's a sad world we live in when you feel you need help but staff and the system do not work with my type of disability. The hospital is the last place I want to go because I know it causes me more pain and suffering if I go so I just rock myself back and forth crying at home with pains so severe at time I want to vomit. I was never condenseding towards staff... never name called anyone but when you use words to describe your situation when we are all 18+ years old staff seems to use anything they can throw at you to control the situation anyway they want to get their way. I told staff I'm going to lay down outside, they continually said no I'm not so I left and walked as far as I could and layed down on a bench. SO THANK YOU HEALTH CARE for all you do from the bottom of my ❤.... So when I get transferred to Oakville, you know all nurses talk because they knew why I went from burlington to oakville, they just let me sit for 4+ hours almost passing out complain about the change of my situation continually getting worse since ariving they would just speak a couple words I can't understand and just walk away without communication. After 4 + hours of my escalating situation I saw a Asian nurse that told me to go sit in a room for assesement. Next to chair was bed, I said I need to lay down so badly, she just told me I'm not laying down here, I lay down anyways, told here why I was here and gave her some paperwork to read that describes my primary symptoms, secondary and other very relevant information regarding my disability and why I'm here, she wouldnt read any of it and just told me to tell her. I said it's faster to read than talk and I have brain fog, confusion, etc, related to my disabilty, she just got all upset with me and said this is not how we work. She basically just walked out after wasting a measly 3 minutes for waiting 4+ hours and said doctor would go over everything I gave her. When I saw doctor he asked question after question confirming he never read anything I gave them. After 5+ hours of waiting in excruciating pain they never gave me anything for pain while there.

The new hospital is really nice. However, the staff, particularly the nurses are very rude. The doctor was way off on his diagnosis. It’s frightening what our health care system is turning in it. It you have a serious condition, I wouldn’t go to Joseph Brant. It’s a real shame. Update: this is a great hospital. I shouldn’t have left a 1 star review because of a bad mannered nurse. I came here in a lot of pain after putting a screw bit into my hand at work. Despite the covid situation, they took me in the ER, fixed my hand and saved me from a lot of pain. We owe a lot of thanks to our health care workers. They truly are the real hero’s that save lives. Oh and both my kids were born here so that also counts for something. ✌️

MackenZie Gibson

I was born here, Its a great hospital. We have a family tradition in this hospital. My dad was born here, And my grandma worked. Hopeful my kids will be born here. Great servouse If you want to have a kid I recommend midwives as the deliverers are either great or horrible.

Kaden Benedik [Student]

this hospital sucks. not much more to be said. i was born here, had many broken foot incidents where i came here but the service is terrible and the wait times are unbearable even tho there aren't even many patients when I'm there so go to a different hospital if you have the chance

905kadin

I have been to this hospital for a week now every day of the week for a pneumothorax. The Dr's and Surgeons are great here but the nurses and triage are careless and heartless. They don't care for any patient and act as if your just another # in their system. Also saw Nurses & student nurses in behind the triage counter on their phones giggling not caring about their job tasks.... Maybe the hospital would get more respect once they give patients more respect and have a little more caring and understanding. No wonder they won't allow video or photos in the "waiting room" because they don't want social media to see how little they care towards their own customers/patients. This sickens me.

Ahmed Jawaid

My dad was recently taken to ER at Joesph Brant and I was pleasantly surprised by the courteous staff and doctors at the hospital. Want to give a shout out to Kim and Dr. MacDonald for the amazing care and their professionalism

Nicole Surette

I had a hysterectomy and spent the night...all staff were kind and very accommodating and the care that was given was exemplary!!! 3rd floor is the best!!!!

Bev Andersen

If I could give this hospital 10 stars I certainly would. This is my husbands second visit and both times he has been treated wonderfully. I would never hesitate to recommend Jo Brant to anyone. The cleanliness, the staff and the volunteers make each and every visit enjoyable. Kudos to everyone who works there.

The park link ticket machine located outside the hospital parking lot adjacent to the hospital, charges $3 per half hour. I put $5.80 in the machine and it gladly accepted. My ticket printed out with 5.80 on it but only giving me 30 minutes, basically stealing $2.80. Apparently that next 30 minutes would only be granted had I put in another 20 cents. Only in 3 dollar increments. green P parking machines give you credit for the money you put it. Everything you put in and I thought it was going to do this because it was taking the money and adding it up. The machine should have spit the $2.80 out oi they're not going to give you credit for the money. It's just a sleezy way to do things. Spent the next 30 minutes trying to correct it wasting all my time. Park link knows what they're doing.

Slow slow slow. So many ineffincies.

My first baby was delivered here and I loved my experience so much with the staff that I chose to deliver here again with my 2nd even though I live 45 minutes away. I made it to the hospital and had my baby less than hour from arrival. The nurses make you feel so comfortable. They are the real stars of the show and that’s saying a lot because I adore my doctor. If you are having a baby, this hospital will make you feel in good hands.

Stephanie Isaak

I had to take an elderly client here. I requested the PSW & Nurses to help him change (he was left alone overnight) as he had soiled himself. When I arrived the next day he was still in the same soiled pants. Terrible staff.

Allison S

I went in for a day surgery oct 2020 and had complications, so had to stay. The staff from check in, the or, recovering and the floor staff were phenomenal. I appreciate all the hard work they do on a daily basis and how compassionate and helpful they are.

escape0007

I give this hospital a one star due to the lack of visibility and information from the doctors regarding patients health. It seems treating physicians do not write notes in the chart.

Rachel Shephard

I have never had anything but good interactions with staff at Joseph Brant. They get me or my Loved ones in to care fast every time something happens. For a small Hospital this one is Great.

Simon Ball

Terrible service my wife in the emergency room over 48 hours waiting for MRI and now doctor sent my wife back home to reschedule

P H

I don't understand why nothing is done about the way the emergency department is run after so many years of multiple complaints that apparently fall on deaf ears. You have to pay for wifi while the wait time is never under eight hours no matter what you're there for. I was sent there from my doctors office short of breath and close to passing out, not knowing if I'd had a small stroke or an embolism. After hours of waiting in a hard uncomfortable chair I was actually made to walk by myself to X-ray to check for a blood clot. I actually had to ask for a wheelchair to be taken for a cat scan. After eight hours sitting in an uncomfortable chair next to the nurses station, with a horrible headache while being totally ignored by them, finally a doctor comes with my results. I could not believe it when he told me in the waiting room, in front of everyone, that I had had a minor stroke! I was sent home and told to return the next day to see a neurologist. I cried all the way home in the cab. On top of that, both the ER doctor and the hospital neurologist I saw the next day were wrong in their diagnosis! A month later I saw Dr Sylva, an excellent neurologist, who read my records and tests much more thoroughly and spent time asking me all kinds of questions only to conclude that I did not have a minor stroke at all. All this was highly traumatic for me and it all could have been prevented if only JBMH would light a fire under their asses and change their priority from the almighty buck to people's best interests. I've heard others say, and I totally agree with them, in the future I will do anything to avoid going back to this hospital.

Katherine Bennett

Great facility, excellent care from nurses and Doctors. All administration staff are friendly. Lots of parking.

laura lennon

Unless you are experiencing a visible emergency, this is not the place to go. My daughter managed to stick some stuffed animal stuffing up her nose. I had taken her to a walk in clinic and the doctor said it was visible but too far for him to grab it. He wrote a referral for us to go to the ER to get it suctioned. I decided to take her to Joseph Brant because they spent a ton of money on renovations and I thought things would be better, and it is closer to home for us. But after 2.5 hours of waiting the doctor said it was 'just normal nose gunk.' I had the doctor check again, as I was insisting there was still something there, but she still sent us on our way. This morning I decided to take my daughter to McMaster children's hospital and low and behold they were able to extricate a cotton ball sized mass of stuffed animal stuffing. It was very clearly not 'just normal nose gunk' I will never go back to Joseph Brant hospital. No amount of money can change behavior of the people who work there.

Life as we know it Life

Another place you have to pay for parking, which is a bit much, although the service was quite fast. The answer is not acceptable especially for low income families and seniors that cannot afford the parking.

WORST SERVICE EVER!!! IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Cole MacDonald

I've received excellent care at Joe Brant over the past six months. I've been in the ER, OR, post-OP, medical imaging, nuclear medicine, the lab and the cancer clinic and have been treated by compassionate professionals every step of the way.

Reading all the negative reviews i was nervous heading in to my CT today. However I was surprised how smoothly things went. Friendly and encouraging staff. I had a small unrrelated personal issue which they were so helpful and accommodating for. I also only had to wait 10 mins past my appt. I was very pleased. Thank you to the wonderdul staff in the CT department who helped me :) May 17 2018

I went here for the first time ever for a day surgery and it went great! The staff, each and every single one of them, was polite, caring, helpful and just amazing. Thank you so much to them for making my day go well with their great attitudes and professionalism! I had to wait about an hour and a half to get into the surgery but otherwise everything went well and I felt safe and well cared for. The hospital was clean and well maintained. Staff are 100x better and nicer than St.Joes in Hamilton. Thank you!

Jason Hall

Second time here in a year. We get in for day surgery and we are told nothing. Our surgery time comes and goes. We are given no information. Go to the front desk to ask for information and find out they are 40 minutes behind. My wife's surgery was suppose to be at 9:55!! I had to ask at 10:20 what was going on. Not informing patients of a delay is lot acceptable. People don't get upset if you tell them you are running behind but people have expectations go be kept informed about when things are going to happen. This is beyond a disappointment. This is starting to show incompetence and complete disrespect for your patients. The amount of money this hospital has claimed to raise, you should be able to provide a better experience than what is being provided

My father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and admitted to hospital. I would bring him food when I visited because he kept complaining how awful it was and that they never got his order right. One nurse didn't read his chart and put him in the shower - after I requested him to have one since it's been a while due to his physical disability- and so she did put him in the shower and told him to stand (which he couldn't do very well without being held onto but had no strength in his legs to support himself) and let go of him and nearly dropped him to the floor...she clearly didn't read his chart. She had to get another nurse to help her while in the meantime my father was terrified and refused to have another shower or use the facilities again...it was a bed pan after that and a diaper which another nurse was not pleased with and let him know that by voicing her opinion to him that he didn't need to use the bed pans and should go to the facilities. A couple of weeks later March 27th he was discharged to go home without any notice. By this time my father couldn't walk or stand on his own, developed a cold while in hospital and we had to find a way to transport him home to find out all the services, other than the medical transport services such as medivac $$$$$, you had to register as a patient and schedule your pick up in advance. On the release date we met with the oncologist who advised he would be undergoing chemo and possibly have another 2 years...end result of that trip thinking chemo was to start and myself and uncle had to get my father into a vehicle nearly dropping him. Week and half later, back to the emergency as my father was seriously ill...same night emergency doctor was going to release him and we voiced our opinion and said "hell no"! To find out his cold developed into parainfluenza needed antibiotics. While on a ward, a different doctor did another exam and noticed his belly swollen...as it had been a week ago too and him complaining of a sore stomach...turns out he had a perforated bowel and emergency surgery required or he would die within 2 days max. He had so much blood work done from day one, abdominal checks daily, PET scan and MRI's and this wasn't detected...at all???? A wonderful doctor did the surgery and he had fantastic bedside manner, and we thpught we have my dad around for a while, not so, his body had been through so much by this time that after ICU (which was another horrible experience with a doctor who had horrible bedside manner and also inappropriate starting...let's just keep it at that) he was sent to palliative care. As I watch my father slip away the team of nurses did their best with the provided staff available, so no rant about them they can only do so much. However, when we were advised, by the hospital team, my father was going to receive palliative care by a team of nurses who would keep him comfortable we were expecting better! How can you provide proper palliative care to anyone on a floor with mixed patient needs and limited resources??!! Many of the nurses, while under the stress handled themselves wonderful while others you could tell were tire and fed up. I went into this hospital with the prognosis of my father being around for a few more years maximum and within a month I was saying good-bye. The pain of watching my father pass was/is gut wrenching.

C Hall

Sad sad sad. Dirty hospital, unengaged staff with no sense of urgency. Need a massive culture change starting with sensitivity training, efficient working practices and basic communication. Maybe giggling and hanging out at the station chatting when you have a 5 -8 hour line up isn't the best approach.... just saying!!! Shameful!!!!

Karen Mackenzie

Today I had to have a procedure at Joseph Brant hospital. I went in a little nervous but within the first 5 minutes I was put at ease. All of the staff were extremely nice, organized and respectful. I was informed every step of the way and it was truly one of the best experiences in a hospital that I have had. Also, it was very clean. Kudos to the nursing staff on the 2nd floor of the South tower. And thank you Dr. Comay. You all made an uncomfortable situation much more comfortable.

Samantha Browning

I gave birth to my son here, and I got to say the people in the delivery ward were great other then one nurse who wasn't so pleasant. But luckily I didn't get her too long as when she started I was switching over from delivery ward to the room we would be staying in. I do have to warn people however that the administrations there try to scam people into paying money that they shouldn't be paying. So hold on to your contract you signed with them because I had the option of being in a private room, a semi-private room or ward. I chose a private room and there was an additional box I could have checked off in the event they did not have any private rooms to be placed in a semi private room instead. I did not check that box off, however they sent me a bill in the mail asking me for 275$ for semi private room since I was not placed in private. I then called their billing department to tell them about this and the lady on the phone canceled the charge right away. She also couldn't really explain why I got charged for it seeing as on my contract I never agreed to pay for a semi private. So review your contracts if you don't feel you are being charged for something you don't believe is right.

I just had surgery was supposed to be home two days ago I'm going to sue this hospital and the nurse, Aimèe , they took my baby away. Unending wait times at the ER.

VERY LONG WAITING TIME IN THE ER!! and the doctors seem truly scared to prescribe anything..

Cock A Doodle Don't

I had an amazing experience giving birth to my first child here. I had a very difficult labor, and staff (the nurses, especially) did everything in their power to make me as comfortable as they could. When things didn't work out however, a C section was given to me as an option. There were two doctors there, but unfortunately one was caught up in an emergency case and would not have been able to assist for a few hours. The other doctor ended up calling a specialist who had just left the hospital, yet he immediately returned when he heard about my situation. I am eternally grateful for that doctor. There was also one nurse there (I believe her name was Krystina) who was an absolute angel. She held me up the entire time I was experiencing difficult contractions, reminded me to breathe, kept telling me I was doing a great job. Beautiful woman

MichelleA Butler

From the moment I arrived I was treated with compassion and respect. I want to say thank you to the Nurses, PSW, and Drs. for the amazing care I recieved.

My 75 year old mother needed an urgent ultra sound done on her leg to see if she had a blood clot, after having the test done, quite quickly we were directed to emergency where we would speak to the doctor to get the results. We waited 5 hours until I finally complained to the nurse to ask why we haven't been called when so many people who came in after us were cared for first. I understand that it is a priority basis, however, a teenager came in 2 hours after my mother did and was treated first with 3 stitches in her chin for a sports injury at school. How is this priority over a possible blood clot. When I confronted the nurse I told her that I am assuming there is no blood clot as she hasn't been called yet, therefore, NOT priority. She couldn't say, of course. 2 minutes later my mother was called to see the doctor only to find out that they could not see anything as her leg was too swollen, inconclusive. They can tell right away when they do the tests, she should not have waited so long for nothing. The final result was she had a clot in her lungs and was admitted. Not so important, they say!!! Hmmmmmmmm. The system needs to change!!!!

Today my husband and I had our Covid-19 vaccine , everything went really well since we arrived at the hospital, The doctor, the staff everyone did a great job . I would like to thank everyone for the great job and effort they are doing during this difficult time . Hope they all stay safe and well.

Worst emergency service I have ever been, clearly racist and discrimination against people they service. Do yourselves a favour don’t go there for any emergencies. Very rude and careless staff, during my waiting time at the emergency I probably learned more about the girls private life thru their gossip. I think you have to be either shot or have an heart attack to get service in this place! Sad! Never going back.

David Anderson

Joeseph Brants emergy is completely incompetent. Our family has only had 2 emergencies in the past two years and both were mishandled terribly. My wife fell down the stairs landing face first on a hard wood floor. She dammaged her teeth and was bleeding significantly from her face. The teeth were not knocked out but were pushed badly out of place. We were at the hospital by ambulance with in 15 minutes of the accident. If she had been treated and the teeth pushed back into place at that time they would have been fine. We did not see a doctor for 3 hours and now she will probably lose 3-4 teeth. There is a protocal to follow for tooth injuries and they completely ignored it. They took and X-ray of her head said there was nothing broken and sent us home. He did not check her for any other injuries. When We got home and I helped my wife get ready for bed, I found other serious injuries. We went to a walk in clinc on Main St. in Hamilton the next morning. That Dr. took the time to check her properly. He checked her from head to toe. Ribs, arms, wrists, everything. He had an xray taken and found a fracture in her foot. My wifes health in my opion, suffered as a result of going to Joseph Brant. This servey would not allow a zero stars. If I could give a negative rating that went below zero I would

Donna Lazinski

Just had surgery on my foot and was placed in a full cast. This was my fourth surgery (for various things) but my first time at Joseph Brant. What a terrible experience. I've never interacted with so many inconsiderate and uncaring nurses. They were screaming at each other across the room in post op. From all the pain meds my mouth was dry and I asked 4 times for water and got it 35 minutes later. In recovery it seemed like no one was organized as I had several different nurses come in and out asking the same questions. Two nurses stood in the aisle way talking about about a maintenance man they called "hot chocolate " and how they wanted to "do him". Completely unprofessional. Other than the nurse that helped me go to the bathroom, they were all rude. The nurse who discharged me threw my clothes in a chair across the room. Without crutches and in a full leg cast I just about killed myself trying to get dressed without any offer of assistance. For all the money donated to make this hospital shiny and new, perhaps they should invest more money into sensitivity training and ethics.

Debbie Settle

My 94 year old Mom was admitted to JBH with a virus which turned into pneumonia. She went from the ER to 7 South and then to 4 North. She was treated with respect and concern from every nurse and staff member we met. Not only was Mom treated well so were we as the family. All our questions were answered and we never felt like we were a bother. One day I was sitting by Mom's bedside as she slept. A nurse came in and ask me if I needed anything. That meant the world to me. An example of the compassion throughout Mom's healing journey. I am thankful to say that Mom is going home and feeling great. Thank you to Dr. T. Harrison, nurses, PSW's , rehabilitation team and all the staff at Joseph Brant Hospital. I hope our paths don't cross again but if they do I feel comforted knowing what wonderful staff this hospital has and despite not all areas being updated and new the staff makes up for it . Their positive vibes and true compassion is apparent on all floors. Thank you for doing what you do! Keep up the good work!

I have been in health care for over 15 years and I have never experienced such a sloppy, unskilled hospital in my career. They have made fatal medical errors with my grandfather, made errors that had permanent effects on my mother, father and sister and came close to killing both myself and my grandmother. Think it's a one off? Nope. Though I have never worked there, there needs to be a real shake up for this hospital to even be slightly passable. I have no idea how they maintain accreditation. Take your kids to Mac the time it takes to drive there is worth it. You wont have to wait and you'll get proper care. For yourself or other adult go anywhere, even a vet, because anywhere is better than the "mistake by the Lake".

Linda Aiello

Terrible terrible hospital!!! Do not bring your loved one here! My mom was brought by paramedics due to severe seizure, saw a doctor who clearly didn’t know what the hell he was talking about! Ran a few tests and told us she can be discharged. My mom was still not coherent and was immobile. Got her home and brought her back to another hospital 2 hours later due to high fever. Your license should be revoked! All of you!

Chi Cheng

I went to the emergency last week and was treated fairly quickly. The nurses were very helpful and friendly. The dr spent time to explain to me the treatment and answered my questions.

Heather Nelligan

For the first time ever, I can say that I had a great experience at a Hospital. I was scared and in a lot of pain but I felt confident that I was in good hands. Every single staff member in Emergency treated me with compassion. The Dr ordered a series of tests and was very thorough. Never have I seen a cleaner hospital. Great improvement from years past!

Loved the doctors and nurses. The service in maternity was impeccable.

Came in with an allergic reaction (at 3am the place was dead) and sat in a room for over 3 hours. I had to go out and ask for ice or something for some relief. Doctor finally sees me (my eyes are swelled shut at this point)and tells me to take Advil!? Went to the walk in clinic the next day and was prescribed a heavy does of steroids to reduce the swelling. This place is a joke!

My father was diagnosed with COVID-19 but given his age and other conditions he had other serious symptoms. I fully expected the doctors to brush him off and just do the minimum which is to give a PCR test. To my absolute surprise they sent him for critical blood work and XRay. They confidently and diligently ruled out heart attack and pneumonia as well as other serious conditions. He went through ED, did a series of tests including XRay and blood work and he was out within 2 hours. Service and work was excellent and we received follow up call. Our experience was very positive, thank you .

Linda Haist

My husband and I received our vaccinations yesterday a the hospital and we were genuinely impressed by how well organized and welcoming staff/volunteers were. From the time we arrived to park - which was free - until we left we were guided every step of the way. It was a very positive experience and we are grateful to all those who made it so!

Communication/scheduling is definitely an issue at this hospital. went at 4:00 pm to find a friend that had day surgery at 10:00 am but was staying overnight for precautionary measures. (this was not a surprise to them it had been booked for months.) was sent by nursing stations from floor to floor trying to find him. by the time they confirmed he was still in recovery and i could not see him - my $6.00 hour had burned out in the parking lot. i was told he should be in a room within a half hour it was just being cleaned, and i should check back in then. it turns out he did not see a room till 9:30 pm that night. Besides the CEO's salary what are they spending the money on. i am a Burlington tax payer, but if i could pull my contributions i would give it to OTMH where i go for treatment.

Brand new emergency room department with not enough room. I was not allowed to be with my daughter while in emergency because there was no room for me to be with her. Ultrasounds, blood work, in agony alone in a room while I sit in the waiting room. What a joke, absolutely horrible I cannot be with her during this time. Take your loved ones to Hamilton

I recently had to be there for the day. Everyone from start to finish was very friendly and more then helpful. In particular a very efficient nurse named Linda. I had a long wait and was able to see exactly how much this person and her colleagues had on there plates. I commend them for being able to do all the work they do and still be very friendly and helpful to everyone they encountered. Thank you to all the staff.

We are thoroughly disgusted with this hospital. My grandmother had a stroke paralyzing the left side of her body. Getting rushed to the hospital and moved to icu. Once in icu she was given medication to break up the blood clot and thankfully it worked. However, the treatment she received was disgusting. She needed to use the washroom and they told her to just go in her pants. And that they would clean her after. No catheter, no diaper. How degrading for any person. Upon being moved down to a ward her care never improved. She has slow movement coming back to her left side but is still confined to a bed without assistance. She is supposed to receive rehabilitation daily and didn't get any for two days. She was in bed not moving. Trying to roll herself over to prevent getting bed sores. I got to the hospital and she had been paging nurses for close to one hour because she needed to use the washroom. I have never seen her so sad. Her face was white and she was crying. What little dignity she has left is slowly diminishing. I would highly recommend that you consider sending your loved ones elsewhere. Luckily she is moving hospitals and we don't have to go to this one anymore. Hopefully at the next hospital she will get the care she deserves and requires to get better.

nowadays, it is difficult to get answers from health care sector. After a couple of hours chasing people at Public Health, I decided to contact Joseph Brant. Cheryl at Patient Experience went above and beyond. She took the trouble to find the right person and get the necessary information for me. Thank you.

Adela Mitacova

My dad and grandfather got transferred into this hospitals icu from Hamilton general, and it was the worst experience, the nurses are incredibly rude to patients and to family members. My grandfather was there for about a month and they did not move him at all he laid in the same position the entire month, we asked them to clean him up and shave him brought all the stuff for them and it took them almost a week to do it. Yes it’s a nice hospital looks great but the absolute worst patient care I’ve seen in my life, the only nice person we got to speak to was a manager her name was teresa and she was great and got him transferred back to general, where they were shocked in the condition he was in and how we wasn’t getting moved at all, he’s been at general for 2 days now and is already getting way better and moving around. Same goes for my dad thankfully got him transferred back to general also.

It's funny... you can get your covid shot in 15 minutes. But your oh so not lovely nurses can tell you it's 4 hours to get stitches out after the surgeon said you could come in and have them removed right away and you wont have to wait....I guess the right hand isnt talking to the left. I'm not waiting 4 hours for 3 stitches to be taken out...while ur nurses are sitting on there phones in a group giggling with eachother and whispering ignorant comments about there patients. Well done Joe brantYour really representing yourself good. Btw... I understand why ur rating only 2.9 now. Makes sense.

George Weir

During the Covid Vaccination. Program . I was lmpressed by the organized and caring way in which the patients (over 80s) were guided through the process. In particular I must commend the Director Jessy Samuel who worked tirelessly in helping the elderly

This is by far the worst hospital i have ever gone to in my life and i have gone to many. The Dr's on staff in emerg (Gupta & Faulkner) totally missed my diagnosis which has led to all kinds of problems and issues in recovery. It was a quite basic diagnosis and even my GP was shocked that this was missed, i am scared to think what other things they would miss if they couldn't even get my simple diagnosis correct. The 1 star is for the nurses who i thought were kind and helpful and knew a lot more then the Dr's did. ------------------------------------------------ This is an updated post as i sadly had the horrible experience of having had to go back to the emergency room here. No matter what ailment you have it cannot be worse than spending one second in this hospital. It took 11 hours to get a diagnosis, staff just do not care about patients whatsoever (i.e a poor women had a stroke and was waiting over three hours to be seen and begged the nurses to be seen and actually left to go to another hospital because the service was so bad and the nurses response to her was "go ahead", no sympathy or caring whatsoever). One of the nurses i dealt with couldn't even get my IV in twice, i basically had to figure it out myself, total lack of understanding and compassion, they say they are understaffed but i was there several times and every single time all i saw were nurses standing around chit chatting endlessly and even one playing with a laser pointer for over 20 mins while there was a massive line up in triage. They have one poor nurse doing triage, answering questions and directing patients while numerous others do nothing. A nurse even admitted Dr's won't come to this hospital as they don't get paid as well which tells you neither the Dr's or management care at all about patients and you can clearly see that feeling in the Dr's and nurses attitude and care to patients (disclaimer, two of the 10 nurses i dealt with were very nice and caring but the other 8 were terrible). 1 Dr on call for an emergency room in this area is absolutely ridicilous. Fair warning to anyone out there, avoid this emergency room like the plague as you will be very lucky if you actually walk out of there, utterly shocking how bad it is.

Wade Reardon

My son was born at Joseph Brant recently. I can't say enough good things about the nurses and doctors. Highly recommend using Joseph Brant hospital.

Ji-Hye Hwang

I had my baby girl here. Doctors and nurses are amazing. But post care area was under construction. Day I had my daughter I heard drill sound from early in the morning also room was so cold. But good thing is, it wasn't that busy so I and my family used whole room by ourselves. We were thinking about pay extra and get a semi or private room. Saved about a 1000 dollar!

Charlotte Bryson

A shame one person can ruin it for all. Admin person at front desk main entrance needs some serious training in customer care and respect for family members. They also need to not speak over a co worker who was in the process of trying to help. In all my years of customer service I have never been so disgusted. Regards,

Dr. Austin has been caring for me since July 2020 while I go through a fistula medical adventure this year, - because it seems the universe thought 2020 just wasn’t spicy enough for me. Smh lol I first met Dr. Austin in the emergency department at Joseph Brant, she had just been in a complicated surgery all afternoon and seemed to rush to my side the moment she could. Her bedside manner was calm, caring and confident which was such a blessing as I was in severe pain but also extremely concerned about what was happening. She had me in the OR within the hour and performed an emergency surgery to drain a large abscess. Since my medical adventure has been on going, I have met Dr. Austin in her office and her staff have been welcoming, informative and helpful. Lastly, Dr. Austin is genuine and a real ally in your corner when you need her. It has been a blessing having her as my surgeon during this difficult time.

Kristin French

The nurses were rude, and seemed to not care a lot, awful experience! so glad I had my surgery done at Oakville Memorial Hospital!!! what a great place!!!

Connor Silberbach

Emergency room is disorganized and slow even when not busy at all. Been 4 seperate times in a year. Son born here in June and that was the most horrid hospital experience of my life. Dont get a C-section here....the night nurses are just nightmares.

Alma Smith

They saved my husbands life. Everyone was very professional. Koodos JBH.

Meghan Phillips

My husband is a type 1 diabetic and came into the emergency department with his blood sugars at 56. The trama team quickly treated him and got him into a room as quick as they could. His nurses were amazing giving him education and preventative care and monitored his every meal and blood tests. I am soo thankful that he is alive and well due to the amazing team at Joseph Brant. We will learn from this experience and get him healthy. You are the first team to educate him in a way that he understands his disease and the resources around him to help. Thank you!

Steve Anderson

Nurses don't care to help you at all! Grandfather Rang call bell to go to the bathroom for almost an hour which resulted in a bed accident because no one came. This isn't the first time in the last week checks haven't been done and he's had his leg stuck in the side of the bed for 3 hours until family showed up and helped. He hates bothering people and is very understanding but this is ridiculous.

Patrick Chartrand

The mistake by the lake...had a doctor tell me that today

eva davies

I worst !!! I swore last time I would never return but that's where the ambulance brings you. Came in with my son who was in severe pain no Dr. saw him for 7/12 hours that's ridiculous. Only one Dr. on all night, how is this ok, last I checked we live in Canada!!!

Riley Kovacic

I only have terrible things to say about this absolute waste of money. My brother and I are sitting in the ER at the moment, wondering who the f**k is in charge. There are people in serious pain (including my brother) sitting beside people with the goddamn sniffles. There's one miserable f**k working at the check-in who--after yelling "I hate my job"--was decent enough to tell us this place is "a joke" as he sent us off to the next step in the poorly designed process. If you haven't had a heart attack yet, go to Joseph Brant's ER and just wait. The chances are, you'll be there long enough for everything to happen to you, excluding getting medical attenton of course* And finally, for the sake of keeping things moving as efficiently as possible, I feel like there shouldn't be patients from the psych ward lounging around in the ER waiting room.

Raluca Schen

My father passed away recently at Joseph Brant Hospital after a 3 week battle with COVID. Joseph Brant Hospital, tended to my father with the utmost care and provided him with the best hospital services has to offer in dealing with COVID. Besides the state of the art facilities, his team of doctors and nurses ensured until the last moment that he was comfortable and allowed him to pass with dignity and respect. Out of respect for all employees of the hospital, medical and administrative staff, please stop these ridiculous bad reviews. It's the people that make up the high quality of care and standards this hospital has to offer, and they are to be appreciated especially during these difficult times. Show gratitude to these superheros.

Carol Babineau

Took my son here this morning . Have not been back to this hospital with him since 2002 because of the way they treat him. It was no different today !! He has Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome and once more they treat him and actually say he is there seeking drugs. The Dr actually said he was lying that he does not get prescribed demerol that it has been banned for 8 yrs. Really !!!!! This is what he is prescribed by his Dr. Unfortunately Joe Brant certainly does live up to its name of being the worst hospital around. I wish the staff their would learn how to treat people properly not everyone is seeking drugs as they suspect. Having CVS for 19 yrs now we know more about it then the Dr's. Terrible way to treat people who are truly sick. As another sleepless night I endure as the care giver after 23 days of this already. At wits end so certainly will be looking into this on the way he was treated. If you or a love one is truly sick avoid Joe Brant at all cost. Drive any where else but here. They can spend all tje monet they want on trying to update this place . Maybe it's time to update the Dr's and make sure they are knowledgeable on certain dieases and treat patients with respect !!!

pablo reyes

Do yourself and family a favour never go here !! The hospital looks nice and all but they should of put money into more staff. The staff is over worked and not enough of them. They look exhausted and make simple mistakes which made me feel uncomfortable to the point where I had to get discharged and go to the Oakville one which is so much better even though I live 10 minutes away from Joseph brant. Everything takes forever , the staff of older lady's are rude and don't care for the patient.

Krysta Boyer

I recently went in for a tonsillectomy. From pre OP to post OP the staff were amazing. While in pre OP I was visited by everyone who was going to be in the operating room with me. They all went over my relevant medical history which made me feel comfortable to know they were all taking part in getting the information directly from me. The new wing is beautiful. Everything was comfortable and clean. My only criticism is the post OP sheet they gave me to take home. It was a poor copy and had some information that could have been included but wasn't. After being in such a professional setting I feel they deserve better literature. But overall an amazing staff and a great experience from beginning to end. I hope not to have to undergo any future surgeries but if I do I would hope it is at that hospital.

Ed Murphy

Thanks you for your kind and professional care. The staff at Joe Brant are excellent, polite and caring people. Thanks for your continuing work and dedication. Ed

Patti Nesbitt

My husband had hip replacement surgery last week and the care right along from his pre-op visit, to surgery, to after care has been outstanding. All of the nurses he encountered at Joe Brant were friendly, kind, and caring. We are fortunate to have this hospital in our community and to have the Healthcare that we do available to us.

Mario Rod

My mom was in Joseph Brant Hospital with Covid 19. Doctors in Brampton told me she had a 75% dying. She was at Joseph Brant for 6 weeks. Thanks to the great Dr's and staff she made a full recovery.

emily marck

I am really disappointed in this hospital! It took me 4 times to get emitted in the hospital when I was complaining I needed a medication change. Then once I was in there, I felt like no one knew my case and that I was repeating my story to pointless staff. One person should know your story and should be advocating on your behalf!!!!! The hospital also stuck 4 people in a room 6 ft by 6ft or smaller. On top of that, there was no Recreation Therapist on staff keeping myself and others busy! The sad part is I see people at this hospital regularly! Even the real Joseph Brant would be disappointed in the service here!

A friend of mine went to emergency for Bakers cyst with excruciating pain. Parking was confusing and not well directed. Finally, she was able to make it to emergency where she had to wait for more than 2 hours. The doctor could do nothing to help. All she needed was drainage of fluid and a shot of steroids. She was advised to go to physiotherapy. What good is physio if she could not walk or sit with a swollen leg and knee. Heartless doctor did not seem to care or relieve her pain. This hospital sucks. If you need help go to Hamilton. So much for our new hospital. Even giving it one star is too much.

Mark Dickson

Treated me great after a trip through A & E then surgery the same day for broken leg and hole in my arm, a 3 day stay and follow up at the fracture clinic. Don't complain if you have to wait, if you don't like it then go completely private. Think what you get in other poorer countries...we are lucky.

Stephanie Passmore

So impressed with the labour and delivery team! Every step of the way we felt informed and supported. Special thanks to nurses Jenny, Carrie and Dr. DeJong!

Victor Laurent

For my first experience with Joe Brant hospital I was admitted to day surgery for Cataract surgery, I was Very impressed with this hospital, first of all the ease of parking was terrific, usually can be a problem, the Staff Nurses and Doctors involved with my procedure were amazing. I enjoy saying good things when good things should be said and this hospital ranks high...I return in 2 weeks for the second eye to be done and after my first experience I feel Very comfortable returning...Thank you Joe Brant...

Peter Hojczyk

I have no idea why other reviewers panned the staff here. Everyone has been caring and professional, and catfight-free! I was given a total of 14 tests in less than 48 hours for a minor incident, so they were nothing short of thorough. I held back one star because of the characterless bland food. La Prep is a great alternative!

carlos orencio

We rushed to this hospital due to an allergic reaction of my 9 months son. The nurses and doctors in the ER were really professional and kind, after 2 hours of making sure my son was estable they transfer us to a room, the pediatrician visited us a couple of time to provide further details on what happened and next steps, the nurses on the floor just fantastic.

Steph Sharpe

Worst hospital ever I would travel back to Peterborough to go to their hospital over this one. Rediculous wait times because nurses and doctors just sit there and talk, Elderly are wondering around with no clue where to go in their gowns, the nurse that took my blood had no idea what she was doing and was extremely rough (made me cry when I don't cry from that kind of stuff at all), then when I'm finally aloud to go home I get home and realize that both my doctors note and perscription has someone else's full name, address, birthday, phone number and family doctor on it so now I'm concerned where my personal information is and they were not helpful at all when I informed them I was unable to pay for another cab there because it cost 50$ there and back so I told them because they made that make they should fix it and help me so I can get there and get the proper information and she told me no it is completely up to me to fix. They have no care in the world that they let someones personal information out and that is very concerning. How can people trust a Hospital with this many issues and more that are not being addressed properly.

Yin Na

Like the reviews of most people here who gave 1 star, I would agree that their ER is quite terrible. Particularly the nurses. They can be condescending and lacking of compassion and sympathy. They will blame you for their own inadequacy. Yes, we appreciate your heroic efforts during these trying times but it doesn't give you passes to treat us like idiots. If you have an emergency, try to look for another hospital.

V Kuhn

I am relatively new to Burlington and was recently diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. The cancer care at JB was superb. Thank you to the TLC of all the chemo staff. Being a widow and not knowing many people here I feel so fortunate that I was put in touch with my surgeon Dr. Kancherla. Every person I came in contact with had nothing but praise for her abilities as a surgeon and her commitment to her field. I felt confident in the decisions she encouraged me to make.

Elaine Copeland

Joseph Brant Hospital is by far the WORST hospital I have ever stepped into. Staff are so unbelievably rude and unprofessional. They show such lack of interest in any situation - patients being admitted into the hospital are scared, knowing any information about their situation is helpful and comforting. The staff at Joseph Brant don’t seem to understand that and would much rather be gathered together behind their counter gossiping then helping patents feel comfortable! A little professionalism and general kindness would go along way Joseph Brant!

jayann ramnarine

I’ve read that JBH program for infant and children is highly recognized. Totally opposite experience I’ve had with my toddler who is less than 2 years old. I came in with my sick toddler who had a high fever, cold and cough and was very concerned. We sat in triage for more than 45 mins before vitals were taken, then sat in the waiting area for another two hours. No one came to check on him or retake his vitals to see how he was doing. I asked twice as to how much longer until we we see the doctor and no one provided a reasonable response. I’m also a nurse and had been managing his symptoms at home but he needed to have tests done etc 3 hours in and he was not assessed. Don’t bring your sick child here!

cal k

this hospital has put so many people in more pain never go there

Adam St. John

DO NOT PURCHASE THE INTERNET. At the time of writing, it costs $10 per day and it is incredibly slow. I can barely load google maps to leave this review. The hospital is average.

Mary Murray

Worst hospital ever. A new addition did not do anything for the eternally poor service and people cannot find their way in or out od the hospital after hours. All staff are rude and unhelpful and the CEO should be sued by the Burlingtontax payers!!!

Ivan Ostric

By far one of the worst e.r. experiences of my life (unfortunately there's been a few). The wait is atrocious. If I had my choice I would never step foot in this e.r. department ever again. I'd rather bleed out traveling to another e.r. than walk in the doors of this one.

Nour A

Great COVID-19 testing center given the volumes we have right now. 2 days after requesting an appointment, I was able to book it for next day (all can be done online or via phone). In contrast, Hamilton public health still hasn't gotten back to me from last week (understandably so). I got to the drive through testing center at my exact appointment time and was literally done the test and out of the parking lot 5 mins after. They said results will take 3 days, but I haven't received them yet... hoping they come in before the end of today (the 4th day). I'd recommend this location for anyone who has a busy schedule and can't wait in line for 2-3 hours due to work, or is uncomfortable standing in line with others that are visibly sick/coughing yet aren't social distancing or wearing masks.

Michelle O

I had surgery there in November 2016 and the staff were incredible.

R Bloomberg

The hospital has been modernized now and is much more appropriate for the 21 st century. My encounters with Joseph Brant have shown me that the medicine is good and the staff are trying hard to make everything work. My family member received good care. But I kept on running into poor communication problems every day my family member was there, and that is not helpful to the image of the hospital. The problem now is the same as it was before before the modernization process. And that is, communication is not done well at all. The hospital is brand new, but the same problem in communication exists just as it does before because, it appears, that there has been no managerial intent at all to even recognize and eradicate the problem. ->So that means there seems to be no formal protocol to update an patients family when a family member is in hospital. An elderly patient can be in emerg for 24 hours and incredibly, no call from the emerg department? This results in numerous calls for a status update to emerg of course, but without finding the right person to speak with. This would not happen if a communication protocol was in place. That is an inefficient way to run the service, wastes time on the part of the staff and on the part of the family. It risks exhausting the staff and making families upset, which is what I read about in these reviews. I think it may be one reason why the staff throughout the hospital seems disheartened and in poor temperament. Maybe that is why so many people complain of how they are treated. -> There appears to be a lack of protocol for attending physicians to call once daily to update the family. That results in the same phone calls to find out what is happening, more unfortunate waste of time. Why is there no structure? Or if it is there, why is not at all apparent? A protocol would use physicians skills in a much more efficient manner. What I am noticing about these reviews is a lack of any response on the part of the administration of the hospital. Now, if I go to the reviews of other hospitals. Hamilton General, or Oakville Trafalgar, the administration seems to at least be reading their reviews and trying to respond. Not all complaints are justified for certain, but some observations can be constructive thoughts that seek to help the situation. Joseph Brant could send a small group to one of the hospitals that is communicating well, see what the secret sauce is, and try to see if that can be implemented here. Joseph Brant is a brand new hospital now. It has the chance to become a really good hospital, with good formal communication structure that will only improve relationships with patients. It will also help hospital staff feel happier and less under siege, as they appear to me currently. Things could be so much better. After posting this review, a month ago, I want to say that no one, absolutely no one from Joseph Brants' administration has even replied to it. The review I gave was complementary where I felt that was warranted. -And constructively critical in areas that I noticed there to be a problem. The fact there was no response is telling. It suggests the nature of the problem at this hospital rests with an administration that seems at the minimum, indifferent. And maybe ? just a little bit arrogant. It must be creating a negative work environment, how could it not. I have no other explanation because if I look at reviews of other hospitals, Oakville Trafalgar, Hamilton General, etc, there is generally a response from the hospital to try to understand the problem and make things better.

doris strange

My whole experience with EMS staff to the nurses in emergency were disrespectful and based on discriminatory assumptions. The EMS made inappropriate comments and giggled about my condition (I struggle with mental illness). I waited for hours to be seen by a nurse and one of them made personal comments about her assumption of my life. The night was a complete nightmare, I thought I was gonna die on their watch and not even my blood pressure was taken by nurses until the doctor saw me. They simply ignored me. All was needed was respect, professional behaviour and humane treatment preserving the dignity of the patient.

Christena Cooper

My daughter just had a tonsillectomy i couldn't get over how pleasant the staff was from start to end happy helpful met all needs nobody acted miserable i couldn't have had a better experience in a hospital and beautiful place nice and clean!!!!! Hamilton hospitals should take notes.day surgery nurses you are all wonderful thanks for the fantastic experience.

Mindy Mauthe

The drs and nurses in the NICU took phenomenal care of my daughter. I would highly recommend this hospital.

Richardg Lanteigne

Brought my daughter who is 2 to emergency with a fever of 105. They give her Tylenol and than they tell us to go wait in waiting room. We sat their for 2 hours and than moved to another room to go sit. This hospital is a joke. Fever that high is not good. Never again. This place should be a shamed.

Krystal Sukola

Been admitted by ambulance and check myself in and both times waited for hours without even being seen and not curtious at all to the people who waited for me making them sit and walk back and forth for an hour having to help themselves into the patient area Befor being asked if they can help u totally a bogus hospital health care there is a joke u could die waiting for them to help u

Laura Stinson

Brought my husband into emerge at 8am and got rushed to a bed because of the amount of pain he was in. If it wasn't for all of you're help doctor's and nurse's I would of lost him and same with our family's... I can't express how much it means to me to still have him to this day. THANK YOU ALL!!! For all the hard work and also thank you for letting me make sure that he was in good hands and allowing me to stay by his side, you are all amazing.. I still can't express how much it means to me!!

Victoria Cuthbertson

I went in for a guel bladder operation.. it was my first operation... I was extremely scared and the nurses were extremely rude to me. It was the worst experience I have ever gone threw. If I were hit by a car in front of this hospital.. please take me some where else!

Dino Mannarino

Joseph Brant Hospital is where you wish your enemies end up to die! There are some good, caring, professional people at Joseph Brant but it must be demoralizing for them to work in such a chaotic, noisy, dirty place dominated by self centred, selfish minded staff. Most staff, if they once cared about their patients, have long ago grown callous and insensitive. On hospital floors that are filled with really sick people, you'll hear the banter, the yucking, the goofing around between staff. They're clic minded and inward looking. It's like staff have circled the wagons and the patients at the incovenient enemy. The best staff we encountered were the young nurses. Fresh faced, well trained, properly professional and decent. My advice to them is to get the hell out before it's too late!

This week - my Dad has a seizure and is brought by ambulance. He's moved to a private room after ICU because there was no room in a regular ward for him. Christmas Day I come to visit and there is paperwork in his room to fill out because there is a room available in the regular ward (my dad has no insurance that would pay for private). I go to the nurse's station and ask for a pen. Nurses all ignore me. I again ask to borrow a pen. One nurse says "we don't have any". So I say "so what do you write with?" And she says "our own pens." So I said "ok so how would you like for me to fill out this paperwork you left for us". She rolls her eyes and ignores me. I say "ok I guess I'll go down to the gift shop to buy one then". Nurse says "gift shop is closed", and she walks away. Now I'm furious so I threw the paperwork down on the desk and said "ok then you guys can fill this out yourself" and then a nurse came up with a pen and the paperwork and said "here you go". Geez, thanks. So I fill out the paperwork, where I check the box "move to regular ward" and I go hand it in. The Doctor comes around and says he doesn't want to move my Dad because he wants to keep him under his care while they review his medications. Ok, great. Tonight (4 days later) at 11pm I get a call from my Dad they have woken him up and told him to pack his things, he's moving to the hallway. Someone who has insurance needs his room. There apparently is no room on the regular ward for him anymore (there was when I filled out the paperwork!) so he's in the hall now until further notice. He's begging me to come get him because they don't have a room and the lights bother his eyes so he can't sleep. A man who's seizures could be triggered by lights - and whose room has remained dark for that reason - is parked in a hallway with a thousand lights on. It's unbelievable. If this hospital can't care for patients they should be diverting ambulances to another hospital. A gagillion dollars went into the updates here, patient care is still as poor as it was before. I signed him out once and took him to Hamilton General where he was admitted immediately and I was told we were lucky we got him there so quickly or he would have died. That's a whole other story. This has to be the worst hospital in the province. I have a friend who had a similar experience with her mother, and she hates this hospital so much she drove herself to Oakville while in labour so she wouldn't deliver at Joe Brant, because the care is so, so poor. Avoid this hospital at all costs.

Eric Edwards

We do not feel safe going there. I'm not sure how to write this so people will listen, because how do you really trust a review online? But I'll try. There have been a number of times we've brought our children to Joe Brant, and while there are individual staff there who can be caring, our overall experience has felt been very concerning, at times it has felt, in our opinion, like an uphill battle for the care we hoped for. On a number of separate visits, we have come away feeling staff have neglected to do basic care and/or made careless mistakes that might have seriously harmed our children. In our opinion, the overall attitude has felt like we were not sick enough to be here, that our instincts as a parent were wrong and that whatever it was was nothing and they'll be fine. Again, these our opinion or feeling about what our experience has been like. I'm not making specific allegations. But we're not demanding people. We're not crazy parents who bring their kids in for every sniffle. We had hoped for consistent support and did not feel supported. As a parent, your feelings about your child are important. You know your child best. If you say they are sick, that is a statement to be believed. Once after pushing for a proper assessment at JB, we found something very serious and had to treat it immediately. Other times it felt like better assessment was needed to better inform the doctors. Why would we go back? Today, two of our friends, both experienced nurses who have observed Joe Brant staff with us, came to us and told us just how serious our last visit could have been. They gave us an envelope with cab fare and pleaded with us to never take our children or ourselves to Joe Brant again. McMaster is a world-class hospital, we will be taking our children there. If we are sick, we will go to Oakville or Hamilton. Working in health care is not a business done with clients. It is a calling to care about people. A calling to be someone who works for the health of those that come under your care. Many hospitals in the GTA strive for this. Our health system as a whole is world class. We did not feel cared for properly. We will go elsewhere. In our opinion, we don't feel good about Joe Brant.

Emma Blankestijn

People are very rude and don’t help you at all. The emerge is always busy and they are also not helpful at all there only did one test and said there’s nothing wrong and sent me home when I found out about a bunch of medical problems later that they shouldn’t have missed

B

Got an infection from a surgery as the area worked on was not cleaned properly. Prescribed a medication which was clearly stated and noted that we had severe allergies to. Went back in pain then got sent back home with an antibiotic not checking to see what the issue could be. Came back a few days later in excruciating pain only to find out there was a severe blood infection happening that could have been caught privioisly visiting this place. This place is an absolute nightmare and this isn't the first time something horrible like this has happened. We will never come back to this place again, thank god for the new hospital up on dundas

Richard Watts

The staff were amazing, the day surgery ward was clinically clean and spotless. The whole experience was extremely professional , very reassuring even in a heightened Pandemic. Big respect and thanks to all of the team working to help the lives of our community... you are all angels!

Matt Shoesmith

I was on their floor in my wet clothes groaning from severe pain for over 5 hours after the ambulance dropped me off before getting any actual help while suffering from a kidney stone.

Jerry Parisotto

Just had a hip replacement. Excellent experience all around. Fantastic staff and facilities.

andre verdurmen

Oh my where do we start, The first comment is STAY AWAY. What a beautiful building, thats where the good ends. My Father in law went there on Dec21/2017 for a major cancer operation. The doctors doing the operation were very proffesional and he came out of the surgery no problem , then up to icu department , Our family spent many hours and days there ,very few nurses came in to see him when they did it was with big attitudes . You always felt you could not ask questions . Even the volunteer staff was terrible . Ask a question and they yell at you. Day 6 he is doing well and they move him to 5th flour with even less attention, Quess What -HIS FUNERAL IS THURSDAY ,YOU SHOULD ALL FEEL VERY PROUD

Wes Warren

Not sure what's up with all the bad reviews, I had surgery today in the new tower and it was the best surgical experience of my life , my o.r nurse was amazing and friendly, my surgeon (dr correia) was super knowledgeable and understanding (also visited me pre surgery and post surgery (never had that before), and my anesthesiologist listened to my concerns and did a great job , staff was friendly and attentive, the facility was spotless, the only complaint I have is the excessive parking price

Mackenzie Nelson

LEGITIMATELY the worst hospital i’ve ever been to

Megan S

Just the WORST hospital! Myself and family have had countless bad experiences and I will continue to tell l anyone I know not to go to that hospital. The people who work there and run that place do not care to help you. There is an amazing new hospital in Oakville where you will receive amazing care. Go there! Or go literally anywhere else!

JON WILLIAMS

Terrible hospital. If Doctor Gupta is on duty in the ER run for your life.

Stan Dunham

Went here with my wife as I was concerned about possible heart attack . After heart was ruled out it was determined to be pinched nerve in shoulder .Wait times sitting in Yellow room are crazy , when told that she felt better lying down she was put in 2 seperate chairs which made pain worse . Only 3 beds and numerous chairs , like sitting in Gore Park in Downtown Hamilton .

Penny Pan

From my experience, the people in this clinic are very caring, warm heart and very professional. We feel very comfortable every time talking with Bliss, she is super nice and always provides valuable and timely information and care. Greatly appreciated.

Literally one of the worst hospitals ever. My neice went in for her tonsils and adenoids to be removed and to get tubes in her ears. They told my sister she wasn't aloud to leave the room or bring food into the room.... So what did they expect my two year old neice to stay alone while shes in pain? They also didn't offer my sister any food to eat nor pillows or blankets for over night stay. The doctor told my sister that my neice was not aloud any dairy or anything acidic for a week after the surgery. They brought dinner for my neice which included; cream of mushroom soup (dairy), chocolate pudding (dairy) and cranberry juice (acidic) ... Staff needed to constantly be reminded to bring advil for my neice yet they told my sister not to let my neice be in any pain upon leaving the hospital. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. Although my review says it's a one star hospital, I give it 0 stars. Such a disappointment. They are so inconsiderate and every time you ask someone for directions they're so rude. I would suggest avoiding this hospital at all costs and my family is NOT one to complain. (Thats when you know it's bad)

San-Marie Jolliffe

Somebody needs to retrain the staff. They can't even take blood pressure correctly and not exactly friendly. My friend was very badly treated.

Kelsi Cooper

recently went to JBMH for a dislocated and fractured elbow. One doctor told me it was severely fractured and i may need surgery, and then the shifts changed and the next doctor said i was fine and to go home. I was there for 5 hours with a severe dislocation and fracture and was not given anything for pain, or even a proper sling when i left. Never go here!!! had to spend the whole next day in another ER to get proper treatment.

Gerard Shkuda

I recently (December 8) had the misfortune to tear my quad tendon due to a fall on a slippery trail. Fortunately, I went to Joseph Brant From emergency to Wards 5S, 6S 200, O.R. and out, the treatment I received was professional and humane. Porters, technicians, nurses, doctors, cleaners and food services were great. Special shout out to Dr. Dzaja whose Holmesian medical acumen, incisive surgical skills and bedside manner combined with a prescient assessment of potential COVID demands on hospitals, made my procedure effective, efficient, and expeditious. Another shout out to nurse Angie on 5S whose science-based treatment and TLC would have made Florence Nightingale proud. Lucky me! Gerard Shkuda Burlington, On

My father was taken by ambulance to this hospital. The screener in the Emergency Dept., Andrea, did not tell my brother that he would be the only family member allowed to see my father for 24 hours due to covid restrictions. If he had been informed, a different choice would have been made. This left my mother, my father’s wife of 70 years, in complete distress. Andrea’s lack of compassion, maturity and smirk was completely unacceptable. Her Supervisor needs to provide her with training on how to behave professionally. In the meantime, Andrea should not be in this position.

Hi, I need to do Covid 19 for travel purpose. How can I make an appointment please

a dale

Jen, charge nurse for part of the day on 7 South 200s, walked into a patient's room and interrupted the patient's nurse who was in the midst of taking pm vitals, etc. The patient was trying, through his pain, to show where it was hurting him. This nurse Jen, had absolutely no regard for this patient. She just stood in the doorway, pressuring the patient's nurse to leave him. she told her, "you can't spend more time with him." His nurse has told me privately that I should escalate this issue. Then, in the patient's room, she chose to berate me and said, "we have way more notes about you than you have about us". Is this the best practices for those who are "caring" for your loved ones?

jan mitchell wasserman

I had an appointment for an MRI on Friday March 23 at 12:20AM (which I called to confirm due to the unusual hour). I arrived for my appointment 30 minutes early as per the hospitals request. NO ONE was there and there was NO ONE "incharge" of this entire institution at this hour? NO ONE knew anything and there was NO ONE to consult under the circumstances. The hospital called first thing Monday morning to "reschedule" my appointment. This institution is a disgrace to our community. Leadership is desperately needed to here.

Francesca Fabiano

The new hospital is beautiful

Rakesh Sukiwinder

People illegally park in front of loading docks and security does nothing about it when called.

Steve Mills

Great place. Treat you well and make you feel better. Went in feeling low and anxiety. They talked to me and help me feel better. Nurse was personal and got some weight off my shoulders.

Tana Carmody

I will start buy this if I could not give them I star I wouldn't I would give this hospital a minus all they way . I don't normally go to this hospital but it was the doctor from a clinic told me to go , I was there very long with pain and they were taking people in that came in way after I was there and they didn't look like they were a priority . I was very upset I hate this hospital they don't care this hospital should be shut down go to Oakville or Hamilton hospital way lot better and they care . What a waste of our tax payers money , Oakville is the hospital to go and Mac Master children hospital for the kids , don't bring your kids to the dangerous hospital which is Joseph Brant hospital your child will not be a priority , Mac Master will not make you wait at all . I bring my boys there nowhere else but Mac , I don't support Joseph Brant hospital at all and I live in Burlington and it's sad that I have to go elsewhere for medical attention for my family , they don't care what a waste of money with the new part . I give you a no star be ashamed good riddance ... Stay away ☠✌????

Adam Chandler

Worst hospital I've ever been to. Not only did they misdiagnose my severe MRSA leg infection and caused me to almost lose my leg (I ended up going to Oakville Hospital instead thank god) they gave horrible service and made many mistakes with my gf's surgery. If we hadn't had mentioned have her blood tested, they wouldn't have known she needed a transfusion during surgery. The doctors/nurses were horrible and the best part is we were told the private room would be covered because a) all of the staff told us and b) when we went down to talk to the finance department they gave my credit card back and said that we wouldn't be charged. Only later did we receive a bill for over $1000 even when they said it was waived! What a scam. What an embarrassing hospital. I warned my gf not to go there and low and behold I was right. Would NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone! Such scammers. Shame on you.

paul demo

No info given to power of authority when mother was admiited to emergency and it had been 5 days and asked numerous time for updates from docs and staff but they have no time... care is at a minimal level and poorly managed hospital. I work in heath care in another system and only when i told them did they react diferently. We should not have to demand and beg for services. I really wish there was an alternative i would but ambulance goes there. After 5 days in emergency took her to someone else and was released in one day.

Lorilee Reeve

I was very well taken care of at this new wing.

Michele Greig

Taking very good care of my Dad, as they explore all things wrong.

comarxx

Very poor service in emergency room. Very very slow service.

Angela Mallard

It’s my first time at joe Brant hospital as my 2 year old fell and hit his head pretty badly First encounter signing in the front staff was rude and quite dismissive. Finally got into the emergency over 2 hours and still waiting to see a doctor. Asked the staff is emergency why so many people had gone ahead of me and my little guy and they were again very rude and told me to go and sit down and I would be called asked if it was going to be over 2 hours and again rudely said we can’t tell you. Got to a room and waited more than an hour again and the parking ran out as the machines outside have a maximum time limit. Almost 4 hours later when I saw a doctor I am pleased to say that he was incredible so caring and personable he would get 5 stars however almost everyone else made the experience really challenging. I just want to be clear and fair about my review. I am basing it on one visit and a few people that I interacted with unfortunately and because of those people I will more than likely not be back or recommend to anyone. I will share my experience of lack there of...

Kevin Slote

Wanted to say that they suck all they do is rush you out the door went there with breathing trouble and they did nothing better to go to the General in Hamilton.

Duggernaut Waurechen

Where do i start even? How does one properly acknowledge the outstanding compassion and genuine concern for their patient's well being. I was quite literally on my death bed last night within an actual hour or two of my death. I walked in with my appendix ready to blow and basically kill me and collasped just walking through the doors. Emerge triage had been moved and i was so lucky as to have a nurse who was simply coming bacl from her break i would assume witnessed me collapse after asking "please im begging.... Someone help me please" and they did just that. A team of nurses/ staff rushed me in to triage and admitted straight to emergency surgery. Despite how fast my illness was progressing and coming very close to killing me, NOT ONCE did i feel uncomfortable. Had good meds (pain was beyond anything i ever thought id feel at 31 years) and they were right there with updates with what was happening and giving me actual timeframes as i was told i was literally at deaths door (as told by my family obviously nurses and staff have AMAZING bedside attention.) To all the staff especially Zoey and Dr. Cairo my two amazing general surgeons who among many others actually saved my life, Holly, Jasmine, the two nurses among many who deserve more credit that they get kept be and my wife together emotionally. I was actually not all that scared because they took the time to explain everything and took my comfort seemingly as first priority as i even got a private room (which felt more lile a fancy hotel stay with the attention you'll get) i felt next to no fear aside from the chamce i may die on the table. All of your staff are heros. Actual life savers, you gave me my life back when i just about had to say goodbye to my family and friends. I feel as i owe everyone who helped me my life. I would not be writing this review if it wasnt for the amazing work these unsung everyday heros do everyday. Thank you. These words are only the smallest thing i can do. Im grateful for my life beyond words. And im alive because of these people. Thank you for letting me see another beautiful day. I wont even take rainy days for granted. Not everyone is as lucky as I. Life has whole new meaning for me now. Every little thing down to my coffee is savored to its fullest extend, and its because of you i get this. Thank you again!! These staff will not let you go quitely into the goodnight. They DO NOT give up and exhaust every option for their patients. They saved my damn life when it was down to the wire.

Kolja Vidic

I was there on Good Friday around 5pm at the south side entrance beside emergency the front people were very rude and didn’t wanna help I waited 10min and after that I left really bad service

This is a classic example of how cronyism, nepotism, discrimination based on ethnic grounds and corruption can happen in a hospital. Burlington is typically a city known for it's corrupt government institutions that parades behind a clean, crime free, small town facade, which is typically the image outsiders are supposed to get, until you live here. Even franchises operating here and other private businesses are corrupt. This is a place where all the successful xenophobic criminals and robber barons with old blood money managed to hide after immigrants started flooding Toronto and they didn't want to mix with them. Hence their strong, obvious, xenophobic ways. Luckily, the changing demographic face of Burlington over the next few years will finally push out these parasites whose only mark on the city will be disorder. At this hospital in particular, these things are currently happened, which surprise surprise, even the OPP station beside it, nor the Ontario Ombudsman, is willing to do anything about it, both are turning a blind eye to the amount of criminality happening within the grounds of this hospital. Out of the 3 times we've had to go there as a family, these are my impressions: The EMS are usually very nice. They actually vary in their level of niceness, from very pleasant and positive minded to a more cold, yet polite demeanor. The doctors are usually okay, with one that was very professional and helpful and one that didn't seem to care much and was really arrogant. The nurses, administrative clerks, cleaners and orderlies are typically either very nice or very rude, similar to the people of Burlington in general. There is no neutral in between. You will either get criminal negligence on behalf of the medical staff or criminal harassment on behalf of the security guards working there. You will literally get security called on you, just for being an immigrant and because some of the more white, English Canadian patients complain about you being there in the first place, they will make up a reason to harass you and make you feel unwelcome, which is illegal, rude and unethical behavior. I hired a private investigator after getting treated rudely here and what he found out didn't really surprise me: Nurses and orderlies stealing medical supplies and with numerous reprimands for misconduct, doctors committing healthcare fraud, management staff and board of directors members embezzling government funds and donations, which is the real reason behind the 4 year delay of the hospital's renovation and construction. I'm not even going to mention the controversial and shady companies the hospital uses for patient transfers, alongside other private contracts. Further investigations revealed countless complaints to medical associations and both government and civilian oversight committees and watchdogs, but to no avail. And staff constantly discriminates based on ethnic, religious, racial and linguistic grounds. The current 2.3 rating at the time I'm writing this seems fitting, but it should be lower. I'm usually not in the habit of writing negative reviews, I let cool heads prevail, and I'm not a complainer, no matter how many obstacles life throws in front of me. But let's be clear, this is a stern warning for both the hospital, and the people so unlucky as to having to go there, especially for emergency medical care, because if nothing is done about it any time soon, sooner or later either any staff that work there are going to get hurt because of a disgruntled patient or family member of a patient because of rude treatment, or a patient or family member will end up getting killed due staff's hostile, violent ways and medical misconduct. I write this with a moniker because of a fear of revanchism. Otherwise I will gladly find you people that will craft you a recommendation based on investigations as to restructuring at the hospital. If there is a lack of availability of health care professionals or any other field in the area, I will glad you find you some. Do what you will with this information.

Jim Carr

Superb medical treatments delivered with incredible kindness and thoughtfulness. Patient-centric at every level.

Me First

My cousin stayed all November in JB hospital , I visited him 2 times a day , at the Covid screening desk they ask you if you are fully vaccinated before allowing you to visit but they ask no proof of vaccination , this is irresponsible , anyone vaccinated or not can say he is. No wonder that today the whole staff is isolated because of the virus and god knows how many visitors were infected .

Rob Jones

Went here in the middle of the night with a severe ear infection and was out in 4 hours. Bring cash to pay for parking.

thatother girl

There's a reason no one with any sense wants to be at this hospital. It's the lipstick on a pig theory. You can change the outside but if you're muddy and cruel on the inside it doesn't matter. This place is the worst

Dave Courtney

Excellent ER staff! I don't understand the people who complain and I witnessed some that were ridiculous. While I was there for while, I understand I am placed in priority as I should be. I found everyone I interacted with to be friendly and genuine.

Garen Vartanov

I was unlucky to have my hip fractured. Then I was even more unlucky to have the hip treated in Joseph Brant hospital and its fracture clinic. I should admit that the surgery was done very professionally. But post surgical services and doctors’ attitude to patients are appalling. Patients in this hospital are seen just as a nuisance.

Burton Hamilton

Top notch quality in staff and procedures during my cataract surgery. Dr Singer is a skilled and compassionate surgeon. My thanks to all.

Nicole Palenchar

If zero stars was possible that's the rating I would give. I will never be returning here again. As a former resident of downtown burlington, Joe Brant was the logical choice for any medical emergencies (most of which occuring between 2013-2016 when I had issues with my gallbladder). I would not have had to keep returning on such an emergency basis if the staff there had accurately diagnosed my gallstones instead of saying 'its stress pains'. After about 4 different occasions of waiting anywhere between 6-12 hours each time in the ER (in a lot of pain) they realize it was gallstones and somewhat offered to do immediate surgery because my organ was infected and inflamed this time around (wait time of 24-48 hours...) As a third year uni student I'm the middle of exam season I opted for option 2 which was schedule a surgery a month from then. The level of unimpressed that I was with the hospital during the entire experience is unfathomable. I have since started going to the new Oakville Trafalgar Hospital. Always a great experience there!

Jennifer Slade

I had the pleasure of visiting the radiology department at Joseph Brant Hospital on November 11,2018. I was greeted politely at registration and taken right into the waiting area for my MRI. The staff member who greeted me there provided me with a locker and a key to lock up my belongings and explained to me what can/can’t be worn into an MRI and why. I only waited a short time before I was brought into the room and explained the testing thoroughly. Both staff made me feel very confortable and I appreciated it as I was a little nervous. Huge thanks to the radiology department for putting me at ease and making my first MRI so relaxed. I would definitely recommend anyone to visit this department at the hospital.

Durka Durk

No medical privacy. They make you announce what is wrong with you and your vaccination status infront of everyone else in the waiting room. What happened to privacy rights? These people working in triage are disgusting and should consider a different profession.

Nascar Chic (Nascarchic)

I have had two knee replacements done here. (Sept and June)I am just home and would like to say that "Stephanie" in 5S was outstanding. So friendly and so professional. Her patients are number 1 with her. The meals were fantastic the first time and terrible this time. They missed one meal and my nurse had to contact them and find out where it was. Another time it was so bad I couldn't eat it and another nurse went to find me something as I was starving. I thought maybe with covid in the hospital, maybe it was causing issues for them? I would recommend this hospital.

Christine Hilton

I have been to the hospital several times in the past few months with a family member who has several chronic and not particularly common health problems.Only one time was there a bit of a wait for care.l think most people dont understand triage takes life threatening cases ahead of others. We are very pleased with the emergency room care. The doctors have been amazing. They have showed knowledge, respect and compassion with every visit on all floors of the hospital. The ER and ICU nurses are the best. The nurses on other floors are good but when you are there for hours watching you realize they are overworked and dont have the time to give the care they would like to.They are very stressed and not always shown respect from patients and their families. I have found both housekeeping and food service staff to be equally caring about patients too. I have taken away one star for two reasons. The food is no worse than any other hospital but it is no better either. There seems to be a lot thrown out which must be a financial hit. I wish there was a way to have a better recycling program. This is a problem in all hospitals and something that needs to be addressed.

Vs Sm

My friend could not wear a mask due to her health condition so they refused to see her cause cancer patients could die. Nobody cares if she dies without medical help she came for.

曹Gavin

Worst hospital ever! 1min talk with doctor cost me $600! Especially the doctor didn't say anything useful

smite stuff

This hospital must have one of the worst human resources department compared to any other hospitals. They hire the worst nurses and doctors. Of course there are some excellent individuals, but I feel bad for them. Terribly dirty and the staff does not care about you at all

Susan Perri

I recently had a surgery performed at Joseph Brant and my experience was amazing. I found the staff to be professional and caring and courteous. A week after I developed complications from that surgery and was rushed back they addressed my issues guick and with great care. There is no other hospital I would rather go to

Ryan K

my elderly grandmother was admitted to the emergency with a broken hip and waited over 24 hours for surgery. COVID protocols were in place and didn’t allow for visitors. our family was provided with ZERO updates on her progress for over 24 hours AND when we called the hospital ourselves for an update the staff didn’t know where in the hospital my grandmother was! utterly disgusting level of service and to leave an elderly woman disconnected without updates from her family for over 24 hours is absurd. stay clear from this hospital at all costs unless you want your family member taken as a hostage in addition to ineffective communication from incompetent hospital staff

Aqsa Noor

The worst experience ever. My sister was the patient and while we tried to communicate to the nurses that she's feeling dizzy and is about to pass out they gave extremely rude responses and also were yelling over her. Let's not even get started with their supervisor who only further encouraged such behaviour. The values they pose are compassion, respect, accountability and excellence - they don't deliver on any. I have forward this complaint to the patient relations team and will also further it to the patient relation ombudsman. I have 0 faith in the management of this hospital since I first hand witnessed the supervisor pretty much encourage the rude nurse for her behaviour. Incredible coaching - must be given an award for surpassing all other hospitals on the level of disrespect.

Brendan Mercer

The overall experience was okay. I had to visit 3 times to get treatments. 1st visit i had an IV put in and since it didnt take blood had shot out of my wrist area onto the floor and a disposal cart. 14 hours later on the 3rd visit my blood was dried on the ground in the same pattern it came out and on the disposal equipment. This is something that should have been cleaned immediately. All the talk about bloodborne pathogens and disease im suprised it wasn't - very gross. Wait times - Good Total times - 30Min - 1 1/2 Hours Nurses - Mixed bag. Some are very friendly others are not at all. Would have been a good experience if it weren't for seeing my dried blood on the ground and equipment. Really makes me question cleanliness practices in the hospital.

DJ A

I received my COVID vaccine today and I just wanted to say that everyone was so caring and attentive ! Thank you to everyone for doing such a wonderful job during these times ????

Michelle J

This review is not of the care I have received which I feel is at par for most hospitals and fairly good. It is nice that the hospital is finally up-to-date because it was quite embarrassing for a city as affluent as ours to have to wait so long (for enough donations) to make the much needed improvements. PLEASE change your telephone greeting. The woman speaking sounds depressing. People calling in are usually in a distressed mood for obvious reasons so how about a nice, kind sounding person to do the voicemail greeting. And your live switchboard people should be kind too. The one working today (March 1/19) was uncaring and sounded like someone you would expect to be working at a factory job. You are in the people business paid by the the taxpayers who use your services. Please show some respect. Thank you!

Sarah Mohammed

Your facilities exemplifies what not do. After waiting over 3 hours with a patient brought in with an ambulance. Your emergency nurses treated other without accessing a person hit by a car. Only after being confronted about not even a courtesy check in. He was sent to xray and sent home by your Dr instructing him to walk and exercise a knee that has a muscle torn due to tge accident. After asking the dr if the patient needed pain killers or T3 for his pain he was told no tynenol will be just fine. Thank god we never took his advise and went to our family Dr this morning who within minutes told us he had the tear in knee pain management and he would need a crutches or cane for support. The only reason we stepped foot in your facilities was because the ambulance brought the victim there. Way to make a horrible exprience a complete nightmare. I won't even mention how your nurses ignored the victim and his family through the process. No information given not even the courtesy of asking if he needed more ice (we used the one given by emc for 3 and 1/2 hours). Only after I spoke to a nurse who spoke to me in a condescending tone "a bump in the head doesn't cause a concussion" I had to speak to her firmly and advised her that his head hit a trunk of car with such a force causing damage to the car. When she realised I spoke proper English and didn't have an accent as she had assumed I did he finally got taken care of. There's a lot to be said about tone and body language. Your nurses were tender and attentive to other patients who's last name I assume were smith brown or Jones. Yet the only family in yhe waiting room that was not even given a hello were those with a "ethnic" last name. Thanks for treating a Canadian citizen of 45 years like dirt and then changing your behaviour only when his canadian born child spoke to you in "proper" English. Slow clap thanks for the memories. Remind me if I ever am in a near death situation in Burlington. I'll take my chances and drive all the way back to mississauga or milton for health care or die trying. Because the health care you provide is no cate at all. At least for the Mohammeds.

Elizaveta Potylitsyna

I got extremely upset with humanity of this Hospital reception staff. The lady didn't allow crying, pregnant women to use a washroom. She said its not her problem that I'm pregnant and its painful for me to hold, so I can go & ask somewhere else. I understand that COVID restrictions comes along with limited access; however it is extremely rude and barbaric for Hospital staff to treat people this way.

Nancy Labuda

Beautiful new building. It is obvious that the hospital board is more concerned with the cosmetics and appearance of their facility than the actual patient care or should I say lack of care within their facility. Their "CARE" missions/value statement is nothing but a farce. However, the individual large plasma tvs and free phones for patients are a nice touch or are these things meant to distract patients from their pain or hitting their call buttons. The lakeside view outside my father's window was breath taking but I was more concerned with his struggles just taking a breath. Therefore, if your #1 priority is appearance this is the place for you. If your #1 priority is health care you may want to consider a different place. Hopefully, others have had a better experience than our family????

I was in Diagnostic Imaging for a Lung biopsy performed with the radiologist and his team who do the biopsy with the help of the CT scan for accuracy. I was sure I had already submitted this evaluation right after I was released but after checking today I must have posted my review to the wrong site. I apologize to the team for my error and am now submitting a glowing review for all that was done for me. From the nurses in Blood testing to the nurses in Day Surgery to the team that performed my biopsy and the x-ray technician . I felt well looked after by a very efficient and professional group of medical staff. I felt so much better on my way home than when I arrived. The staff put me at ease and ensured I understood the procedure and anything that could possibly go a little awry. By the end I felt like I had been with trusted friends instead of hospital staff. Thank you for how safe you made me feel. Best always, Deborah Craven

Supportive staff ’ very helpful

Amy Spirito

I'm just disgusted with this place. My grandmother was in the hospital with kidney failure over the holidays and while she had good nurses, the doctors and administrators did not seem to give a crap. She is nearly 90 and can barely walk and was released without an assessment from CCAC. The hospital released her saying she can manage stairs and that's good enough - but she can only do 4 - and last night she tripped going up one! She needs to go into assisted living and the hospital let her go without helping us in this regard at all. She's now at a family members home (who has 18 steps on the staircase I might add) and Is on a wait list because of the flu outbreak. Disgusting.

My 3 year old son was taken to this hospital with an open head wound. My wife sat in emergency for 5 hours without any feedback on my sons injury or an idea of treatment or extent of injury. When she finally had enough waiting and asked for an idea of what was happening, she was told they should go home and that "kids are pretty resilient" and "maybe you should go to Hamilton hospital". You should all be ashamed of yourselves if you work here for this level of ineptness and complete lack of empathy or understanding for the people you should be caring for.

If I cud give 0 star I would .do not go there they dont care about you or you're pain blood work took what was the most important then 3 hours plus 4 hours waiting and at the end she wouldn't do an ultrasound for me .than someone said beside me I could drop dead on the floor cause they dont care

Another bad hospital... I've been waiting for over 3 hours in the emergency clinic and will probably have to wait another 5. The hospital is very understaffed when it comes to qualified personnel. They have a bunch of young kids that are more concerned about how long they have in their shift rather than actually doing some work. The hospital is new but what's the point when nobody uses its facilities. I wish that I could give this hospital 0 stars.
