Disgrace to humanity...

Danny Hourican

Such friendly staff, I was seen quite fast, maybe 30 mins wait time. Really professional and welcoming.

James Schrode

Staff and nurses are friendly for the most part but expect a minimum of 4-6 hour wait even if you're screaming in pain they will just move you to a room then forget you are there

Danielle Fink-Crown

I spent three hours sitting waiting and then put in a room still waiting while the nurses all chatted at their stations instead of asking me if I wanted some kind of pain meds or even assessing me. I feel like staff here just don't care enough about their patients. The ladies in triage were exceptionally rude... Just all around bad experience.

Faye Miller

Cooperative and congenial

keep in mind that kgh isn't really a hospital its a business, if there not getting paid your not getting treated... a thing to keep in mined for kgh is all the surgery's are all done threw bids so surgeons bid on the sugary like an auction witch is scary if u think about it.. and most doctors cant get there bids in so they leave cause there not making money here... and they wonder why we cant get doctors.. ur best bet is Vernon jubilee hospital I would recommend but as for kgh I would avoid it if my life depended on it...

The Public Needs To Know This could happen to your Parent! My 90 year dad was admitted to emergency on July 1 2021. He stayed there for testing regarding health issues. On July 5th 2021 his condition took a turn for the worse. I was called by Doctor attending physician. He asked me on the phone if my dad wanted to be resuscitated and I said YES. We rushed down to hospital. My dad was still alive. We held his hand tight. We were there for 4 hours and at no time were we told by any medical staff that the cardiologist Dr. issued a Do Not Resuscitate order. We were never informed that they were not going to resuscitate our dad. We thought our dad was coming home! My sister and I were running back and forth to nurses station to try to get help for our dad but the nurses did not move and did not look up from there desk. We were in disbelief of what we were seeing. The rude social worker there told us to stop making noise that we were disturbing other patients. We sere so traumatize because we were never told he would not be resuscitated .The doctors kept badgering my dad into Not being resuscitated by say you will have broken ribs, you will be brain dead you will be on life support if we try to resuscitate you. My dad never agreed. I started recording this on my phone because I knew something was gravely wrong. My dad says several times "I WANT TO LIVE" they completely ignored him. Then 3 separate nurses came in an injected my dad with what they said was pain medicine. My dad dropped his head down his last words were I feel sick sweating profusely. He said I think I am going to die now. He said I am probably going to sleep now and I an not going to wake up! We held his hand tight crying and we watched my dad overdose. It looked more like how they Euthanize an Animal! .My son said I think grandpa is overdosing. The Public needs to know that this could happen to your parent and they Will Not Resuscitate and not tell you. This was so traumatizing, confusing and so wrong not to be told that there was a DNR given by doctor. Beware because this will happen to you and all they will say is Sorry. We found out about the DNR one week after my dad died by conducting our own inquiry as to what happened?? Doctor tried to deny his involvement by say he is not the right person to talk to. When asked if he gave a DNR he said Yes but I did not know your dad that well. This was Very Disturbing that he admitted to not Knowing my dead well But Had the POWER TO END HIS LIFE! This is not good enough to say you are sorry! They need to be held accountable. I am sure there are many stories like ours and there will be many more. The Public needs to know this if you have elderly parent with heath issues and they have not made it clear in writing that they want to be resuscitated the probably wont be! Disgusting, Sickening, Immoral, cold hearted!! This can happen in 2021! They Robbed us of our last memories of our Dad because instead of comforting him for death we we frantically trying to get someone to save him!! IN THE AGE OF COMMUNICATION AND TRANSPARANCEY ITS HARD TO BELIEVE THIS COULD HAPPEN!! STILL HAVING NIGHTMARES!! We have made a formal complaint to the patient care department. Hoping and praying they read it!!

Dave from Ultrasound was incredibly compassionate, caring and professional. We also had a good experience with the ER doctors. We waited quite a while until all was said and done but understand that these things take time. We are very grateful for the care provided!

Rowan Nagel

Cut a tumour out of my head... Pretty damn impressive. Everyone was nice and helpful too, dunno where the rest of these people are meeting these apparently horrible people.

Eve Henke

Had a pleasant experience with the radiologist, super caring and wanting to help even though it was out of his way. Definitely a breath of fresh air.

Ehsan Tarokh

The staff are awesome, patient and very kind to people!

I got amitted on Thursday for shattered hip and staff and patients in my unit really caring and supportive it made me feel less lonely and sad. I even made friends thanks for putting me back together ????

My dad had been in a coma for about a month and had a brain bleed, and woke up in Kelowna, then came back to cranbrook general hospital, and was in cranbrook for about 6-1/2 months, he was sent back to kelowna for brain rehabilitation, mind you he was still a fall risk and even had a bright wrist band that said "fall risk" he was found in a pool of blood in Kelowna...after was left alone, we have come to cranbrook to see him today and he was un recognizable, his hair and beard were shaved off, and he had a giant lump on his cheek, and eyes to back of his neck was black and blue, he wanted to be DNR, but Kelowna shoved more tubes in him, now he's asking me to help him up, which I can no longer do since he went to Kelowna, needless to say I am furious with the negligence of Kelowna. Oh and my mother called and spoke to a male nurse, that after being informed about all this, claimed he "felt like a punching bag" really? How do you think we feel...

Jinx Jordan

There is NO COMMUNICATION WITH ANY OF THEM , I've been receiving " treatment " so they say , but they didn't care to give me the RIGHT medication and gave me 2000mg of the WRONG substance ... so it made my condition worse !!!, It's not that their not kind but I am not a NUMBER I'm a person and I don't appreciate being passed off to the next person like a baton , no attention to detail but rather their concern is getting through the paper work , I have never been so UN IMPRESSED with people who are supposedly caring about you ... they make 35$ an hour ... they need to do their god damn job and see it through ... not to mention if your a return patient ... u have to go through the whole process again ... LIKE REALLY.. so basically every time i go in I gotta start over and deal with someone new ! Their system is a f***** joke and THINGS NEED TO CHANGE

We appreciate all of our front line healthcare workers!

Sat in a room waiting for an hour to see a doctor while my girlfriend is having a very loud, painful miscarriage. It's already a difficult enough experience without hearing all the staff gossip and laugh 10 feet away while my girlfriend is loudly sobbing and crying out in pain laying in a growing pool of her own blood. None of these air heads thought to give her a gown, pads, or any advice on what to expect or when to ask for assistance, if she needed painkillers. This is 3am Tuesday morning, there are 6 staff and 3-4 patients. Unacceptable. It keeps getting better. After being in the hospital 4 hours in pain, bleeding trhough her clothes and ruining everything but her socks, the 2nd doctor tells her she can have pain meds, little late now isn't it? Then not 2 minutes later a little melodic ringtone sound goes off in the main room and she says "Did you hear that? That's the sound of a baby being born!" What the hell is wrong with these people?

Jessica Young

Absolutely horrible. The nurses were extremely rude and disrespctiful. They would rather spend their time taking selfies and texting friends than take care of patients in immediate need. Looked at my friend, scoffed and called her dramatic, then proceeded to laugh at her as she tried to walk. Would like to see better nurses

Diana Torres

The Er needs to chance , the whole system needs to chance us really uncomfortable to have to discuss your symptoms in the waiting area people are all over the place with their meds in the waiting area instead of a room or designated area for people getting their treatment , is really bad .

Choose ye this day God or a fallen angel

The staff for the maternal ward, from reception to surgeons to pediatricians, nurses 10/10 ratings. They are sooooo professional and caring. Unsung heroes. Huge thanks!!! Special thanks to Dr. Burridge, Dr. Kluftinger, Dr. Stephen Nel.

I love this hospital!!! They are saving my dad's life after a terrible motorbike accident and the icu staff are wonderful! You all have my heart forever for taking such great care of all of our family through this difficult time. Thank you... you have all made a difference in our lives and we will cherish your hard work for a lifetime for sure. Xoxox

I had to go to Emergency on Friday October 29 for imaging. I found the staff professional and yet friendly and up -beat. The ward is well run and organised. The doctor on staff Dr Turner was efficient and knowledgeable. I think he was the sole doctor on staff for all the patients waiting for a diagnosis and/or treatment. I was able get an exam by the doctor, blood work, a CT scan and eventually a diagnosis all in one afternoon! The radiologist and the specialist surgeon examined the CT scan and determined that surgery was not required thankfully. All this to say that this experience demonstrates what excellent service one can receive from our hospital. I was naturally impatient when time was a -clicking and supper time was rolling around but when I realised that Dr Turner was working alone and that I was getting results from such a complicated diagnostic process involving so many health providers all in one afternoon, I felt more humble and appreciative of all that was done for me then. KGH keep up the good work.

Went to ER for severe chronic pain to get pain relief. ER doctor was good and admitted me to get my pain settled down. The ER staff was excellent. Once they moved me up to 6 West it became a nightmare. The day staff was rude..inconsiderate and level of care was absolutely horrible. The Dr was uncaring and rude. I had to fight for meds and she did not want to treat my chronic pain. She told my partner that if I am not constipated then I didn't need to be there. She did not once examine me. I was sent home in severe pain and nausea. I spent 2 days on 6 West with little help and in severe pain.It was inhumane what they did to me. Its a sad day when you go to a hospital for help and cannot receive any. I have never been treated so horribly! BEWARE OF THIS WARD!!!!

FallenAngel587

Worst hospital I have ever been too. They have refused treatment to me and my family they have diagnosed us with problems we don't have but ignored the ones we do. From others we have talked to they are so bad at their jobs they have killed family's because of not giving them proper treatment.

Miss Martin

I wouldn't wish my worst enemy the plight of having to spend a single moment in this hospital. The level of incompetence is mind blowing. Nurses can't be bothered to read orders from the doctors pertaining to the patients care and needs. One mistake after another. Left laying in fecal matter for over 45 minutes because they are too busy get glasses of water and warm blankets for other patients because they don't want to deal with it. No accountability. Booking errors, medication errors, communication errors. The surgeons are great, the hospitalists are okay, but the upper management and majority of the nurses are horrible.

Connor Cunningham

The staff is generally overworked and some of the facilities have aged horribly. Not to mention the wait times are atrocious.

Yuri Grozenok

Great staff! Came in an ambulance, bleeding profusely. Was rushed into surgery right away. A whole army of people were operating and checking up on me. Then a plastic surgeon was patching me up. Nurses were a blast, and even offered to take a selfie for me. Very upbeat people kept my spirits up. They'd explain to me what's happening so I'd know. Had to come back for a few procedures but overall things worked out. Thank you for helping when I needed it!

Terrible Service, Rude Ignorant Staff It was early Sunday morning when I took my husband to hospital for breathing difficulties. Admission to hospital was fairly quick but that is where it stops. We were directed to the streaming room at KGH. It was not at all busy. We waited in the section A to be called. We were then told to go to the assessment room. More than one hour had passed and still no doctor. We waited more. No one from the nurses station came in the room and checked on us. We were totally ignored as if we were not even there. Utterly disgusting. I could see about five to six people at the nurses station making small talk amongst themselves while they were snacking on junk food and taking selfie pictures of themselves. At one point the hospital staff from the nurses station disappeared and the whole floor was cleared of the patients before us. We were left all alone on the floor. It was obvious that everyone else was tended to but we were still left sitting and waiting for the doctor. We finally asked when we would see the doctor and the nurse simply just told us that the doctor was busy. That simple answer did it for us because there were no more patients left on the floor but us. We said we were leaving and one of the female staff said, okay. We walked out. It was obvious that no one gave a damn. They were a very cold, aloof and uncaring staff lacking professionalism. This is what taxpayers are paying for? This is just utterly sickening.

Volunteers make getting around easy. But can be long wait in line. Hospital is overstaffed in areas unfortunately and others understaffed. Would be nice to see the supervisors keep it balanced. Some staff seem to use have lots of time to be on there phones instead of working

Staff in emergency department is really irresponsible with the patients.

This place is ridiculous

John Oetter

First time visiting someone there. A little confusing to find your way around but decent signage. COVID-19 control very efficient. Staff very helpful.

seem to be over worked. i was here on holidays and i the staff seemed to be running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Some staff at the outpatient lab are very unprofessional. Blamed my 3 month old when she (the staff) can't find the vein during blood extraction. She still has bruise from two days ago on her hand and foot. I don't recommend bringing your babies in there for lab works. They get easily rattled esp when young ones started crying. We are never going back in there again to do lab works. Our experience from other lab esp one in rutland is incomparable.

Frank Klassen

Had my regular 3 year colonoscopy this week - the staff of the GI clinic couldn't have been any better. They really turned a potentially miserable experience into one that wasn't bad at all.

Waited four hours and watched every single person in the waiting room come and go.When I asked if they forgot about me I was told they have no beds and I"d have to wait 6 to 12 more hours. What a joke.Next time I"m going to call 911 and get an ambulance to take me to the doctor.Absolutely no health care.We pay for medical and get treated like a dog in a third world country.

Parking is infuriating, a person should not have to drive up and down different streets after trying the entire parkade! Charging more for parking will not help encourage foot traffic when people come from all over kelowna year round. KGH is a normal hospital, nothing special about it. Parking just sucks.

David Evans

Cole Tweed

It’s the only hospital in Kelowna. It’s a little slow but the people are nice. That’s all there really is to say.

It is no wonder the okanagan is a major hub for the rise of COVID-19 in British Columbia. The Kelowna General Hospital is one of the major sources of the spread of COVID-19. Despite the provincial ministry of health mandating patients must wear masks while outside their rooms this is not being enforced as patients are not only seen running around the ward without masks they are doing so to go outside to “smoke” as well. Add to that this dirty facility is falling apart. The walls coming apart and falling off the walls and counter tops with the melamine either chipped, raising or completely removed making it difficult to clean and sanitize. This hospital standards are approaching third world standards.

DD Wyatt

I had a stroke in Oct. Well with out the excellent care I was given, I would not be writing this text today. I am forever grateful to the doctors, nurses. And rehab personnel . That is why I will be back to normal in the next 4-6 months. God bless you all all and again thk you for keeping me whole.

Nicole Gono

I went into ER 5 times in a week with extreme back pain and was sent to minor treatment, whilst I was there I heard the doctor saying I shouldn’t be in minor treatment because I have been here many times. My chart was moved and when I asked the nurses whether I should be there in minor treatment they were very rude also racist! Surely I’m in pain I’m not trying to annoy anyone but you’re not doing a good job if you don’t inform a patient to move to a different area if need be. They even walked to my bed to close the curtain and the one nurse said thank you for doing that. Such racist rude nurses

Mackenzie Russo

Went because of mental health issues, staff was very very rude, very inconsiderate, when you come here dont expect any type of hospitality from anyone ( staff very much included )

I have both worked here and been a patient here. Some of the best staff in BC. One of the best hospitals in BC. And I have worked in a few. Has a pay parkade. Very few handicap parking spots around the hospital. I mean very few.

I have been to this hospital a number of different times for different reasons. I have had good experiences, and bad. There was one thing I saw, however, that permanently stained my view on this hospital. It started when I was in the ER for a friend. We had been dropped off in the front of the hospital and used the main lobby to enter the building. We then proceeded through the hospital to the ER wing and signed in. While we waited, a senior man was walking out of wherever he was just helped, and was asking how to get through the hospital to the lobby. The nurse was rudely saying that there was no way through and he would have to walk around outside. He was clearly distressed. This was somewhere in the middle of december and it was very cold and snowy outside (around -5 or -10) and this man was in a T-shirt and not in the best physical shape, meaning he was walking slowly and with fragility. He explained sister was to pick him up out front and he had no phone or way to contact her. This man needed help, and I personally walked him through to the lobby, a path the employee said did not exist.

I recently was in attendance for my young nephew, his family and friends over a difficult 4 days in the ICU at Kelowna General Hospital. The tragedy of this event was deeply felt by all who witnessed his passing. While our helplessness, loss and grief was palpable, so was the gentle, warm and respectful support provided by the ICU team - for my nephew but also for each of his family and friends as well. I left there on Thursday evening ever grateful for their clinical expertise but as much for their generous spirit that they shared with each of us. Thank you to this very talented team of nurses, social workers, physicians and respiratory therapists. We all were in your care.

KGH is he absolute worst hospital I've ever had the mispleasure of reciving "care" at. The staff are apathetic at best, preoccupied with themselves rather than their job, and refuse to listen to the concerns or questions of their patients. They completely disregard any sort of suggestion or request, despite the fact the patient knows their body better than anyone. In all the times that I've been to KGH, I've seen an actual doctor (non-resident) once out of maybe ten times, and the care I received was abismal. I've had tests that were performed incorrectly, lost results, and several failures to deliver important medications at all, let alone in a timely manner. If you have the choice, DO NOT GO TO KGH. Take it from me, you could probably get better care at a walk in clinic than you will in this hospital.

Liz Sharma

I was in the ER the morning of July 1, 2017. Was in and out in 30 mins- my only complaint was the triage nurse did not introduce herself to me- but everyone from triage to the doctor and admitting were awesome. I had to get ahold of medical records today to get my chart for follow up in Alberta and the staff was so helpful! I would apply to work at the hospital in a heartbeat if I ever move that way!

Aleesha J

ER staff is sooo friendly! I wish I asked the one gentleman's name, my friend had the same experience with him. He's got a great sense of humor and it's comforting when you're sitting in the er broken. My experiences at other ERs have been so awful, I felt like "jaded" and "miserable" was a requirement to work there. Huge props to the kelowna ER team, I seen how friendly they were with other patients and staff and it just makes it so much more tolerable. If there were awards to be given out, they would deserve the top.

Robert Ashton

Staff were friendly and did manage to put my shoulder back in place. Although I do come from Ontario, so I don’t know if that says much.

I was surprised to see how helpful and caring the staff was. They made my mom very comfortable and for the that I'm greatful it was very stressful, they made the visit feel like they were my family. ???? Thank you

Accompanied someone to a scheduled appointment in the Ambulatory Care Department. After sitting there for over an hour finally went to make sure they knew we were waiting and were told rather abruptly to go back and wait as they were "just behind". It would have been nice to have been told there was almost a 2 hour wait. We do accept that delays can happen but it would have been nice to have been told when we arrived or at some point that things were running behind rather than be completely ignored for almost 2 hours. The nurses were not very friendly. All in all, not a pleasant experience especially when you are already worried about having to be there in the first place.

I have generally had positive care at KGH overall, but this review is specifically in reference to the staff of the Hand Care Clinic. One particular individual by the name of 'Marilou or Mary-Lou' is completely devoid of any functionality, courtesy or human empathy and her position could be greatly improved by her replacement with an automated booking system, which I genuinely would have preferred in this case. Most successful businesses pay attention to these rating - EXCEPT for government based and non-privatized health care. They have too much job stability and know that their patients have very little choice of where to go - and it shows.

brianna saari

Came in and needed to get blood work and a yurin sample and they lost both of those things so I had to give it again.

Awesome for help

I was in ER about a month ago and I have to say that everyone there was amazing. They were so thorough with testing and were able to refer to a fantastic heart doctor. The one thing that is etched in my mind though is the kindness they all displayed. I was there for a long time getting tests and waiting for results and one of the staff went and got a few sandwiches and a yogurt for me. I never asked, nor did I say anything at all about being hungry (I was though lol). They were extremely busy in the section I was in, yet still took that small moment to go above and beyond. Thank you to all of the Front Line Workers!

Graham Shonfield

My service was quick and speedy! Get ready to answer answer the typical questions but all in all I felt very well taken care of and didn't have to wait too long.

My 15 year old son was admitted into KGH last year, he was diagnosed with SJS. The staff were efficient and very caring. What also impressed me was that the staff at KGH did not delay in contacting Vancouver children's hospital as the illness that my son had was beyond their facilities. We were transported by air to Vancouver the following day ( in Vancouver we received the best of care) and a week later we were airlifted back to KGH for him to finish he recovery. If I could change anything about this experience, it would be to have a fully equipped children's department with the nessasary staff so that our children could be fully looked after here and not have to be sent to Vancouver! I have also had many other experiences at the hospital, tests on myself, visits to emergency with my children and even a visit to emergency myself one night. On all occasions we were treated very well, the staff were friendly and efficient, the hospital was clean and it was easy to find my way around. KGH is still growing, it gets better and better as far as I am concerned and is partly responsible for saving my sons life and for that I will be eternally grateful.

Dalton Bergman

This wait time for anything here is horrible. Stop talking about your god damn nights out and help people needing help.

Attended with extreme abdominal & lower back pain September 9,2021 after promising a concerned ..mom???? Full blood workup, an MRI, & 3 vaccinations later I left assured that death was not in my near future. Nurses were phenomenal, technicians equally so while the attending physician was gracious and careing. Hadn't seen a Dr for a checkup in over a decade - even with COVID in full force I received amazing care. I've a new respect for health care professionals...thank you all!!!!

Kevin T

WARNING, Very slow even when they book an appointment 3 months in advance and they get snotty when you remind them that you are still waiting after 1.5 hrs sitting in the waiting room for a total of 2.5 hours. Very DISGUSTING.

Tara P

Nice Nurses, but the food is just a no no, so many calories for everything and so much oil its just not healthy.

After a year, I'm going to change my review to a positive one, solely based on this experience alone. Our little girl, who is 5, became very sick (with food Poisoning from McDonalds...that will be the last time we eat there ever again.) Anyways, she became so ill all she could do was vomit, sleep, and go to the washroom (diarrhea...and accidents for days). We came in to emerg and within 10 minutes were able to see Dr. Cleve. He was fantastic. Thorough. Kind. Amazing bedside manor. Great with kids. He gave her a "magic pill" (Zofran) and she was able to drink without vomiting for the first time all day. I appreciate the sense of urgency they treated our little girl with. And how fast they acted to make sure she was okay, without having to give her an IV. The nurses were kind, friendly, fast and accommodating. Again, this review is based solely on this visit. We have had many poor visits due to wait times, however, it has been my realization that they do take the urgent cases very seriously, which was our case, so it changed my perspective on the hosptial to have more patients and understanding that we do have long waits sometimes - but not when there is truly an emergency. Thank you Dr Cleve and staff.

Tried to find a floor plan of the new building, searching for the X-Ray department. No luck from any of the google search results. How hard would it be to publish a floor plan, including which entrance to use?

I have been hearing a lot of negatives about the Kelowna hospital..so to balance the reviews... From the time I remember which was November 16,2014 ( I had been in an induced coma) to the time I left in January 2015...I have to say that everyone and I mean everyone from the nurses, rehab, housekeeping the hospital doctors and the social workers did everything to help me, to care for my needs in every way possible.. sometimes they went out of their way to help me through the pain and the trauma. Its important to remember that the men and women who work on the front lines are understaffed and with so many patients- not enough beds having to be in hallways, which trust me as I was there done that - . they still did all they could to make a patient as comfortable as they could. Are there problems in this hospital...damn rights there are..hire more nurses and hire more staff please... from a patients point of view..the staff are getting tired from being over worked and that is just a simple fact!! I will end with a simple and most sincere thank you... you guys were and are the best...

Laurel gingell

Had an excellent experience at the Kelowna General Hospital emergency department despite its extremely crowded waiting room. Staff triaged me in a quick manner and had me into a room and seen by a doctor in no time. The nurses were empathetic and their shift change was executed very quickly.

Nicole Germaine

Going into my 7th hour in the waiting room without having seen a doctor. Only one doctor working. I suggest you go to a surrounding hospital

I did do my gastroscopy last week. Thank you all staffs and good service.

In the last few years, I've gone to the ER at least two dozen times, all for the same symptoms that have only been getting worse as time goes on. Every single time, I leave the ER with even more frustration, pain, and hopelessness. I have severe GI issues to the point I can't eat or drink, sometimes. At my last visit there, I went in doubled in pain and ready to vomit. I understand that they're backed up with a lack of staff, and I try to be as polite as I can. I smile at the nurses, I've never yelled at anybody, and I've respected their work. But, I feel like there's also a TON of horrible people in this stupid place. I was given a pain killer that apparently makes people jittery. Normally, nurses will see how you're doing to make sure the pain is down, you're feeling okay, etc. Not for ME. Instead, the nurse who had given me the medicine proceeded to WATCH me for the next 2 HOURS, all while my legs looked like they'd been possessed and tears in my eyes from the amount of anxiety this medicine gave me. And her only suggestion to help was 'take a short walk'. It took my husband coming in and asking a different nurse for something to help that I FINALLY got relief. A simple dose of Benadryl, and I was much better. I've gone in with obvious things to look at (rectal bleeding obviously calls for a quick rectal exam, right?), but NO ONE looks in the right place. They cling to only one symptom, go through some "mostly reliable" tests, and then tell you that there's nothing wrong with you. The ER here is the absolute worst, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

Im guessing people expect perfection but I’ve spent probably 50 nights at KGH in the past 5 years and my experience has been fantastic. Yes, the odd blip but overall the service by the nurses and doctors as well as support staff has been beyond expectations. Keep up the great work ????

This review is ONLY for the emergency room experience. I went in with post-operative eye issues. I was triaged and then waited AN HOUR AND A HALF to see someone, only to find out the eye emergency room didn’t have HALF the equipment required to get the baseline information to provide the ophthalmologist on call. The doctor who saw me was nice enough, but didn’t even work normally in this facility, so it was a very clumsy and confusing experience. This person should have saved us all a bunch of time and sent me right to the ophthalmologist on call. One star for the excellent triage staff—thank goodness for their efficiency and understanding, otherwise this emergency room gets a big, fat zero stars.

Jake McIlravey

Extremely nice interior, and the food is actually quite decent. Very accommodating for my grand mother. However the staff are really, hit or miss. Either they are extremely friendly, or they seem like they really don't care about what happens. I understand that they are medical professionals, and that doesn't entail an idea work day, but at least put a smile on for people that are going through some rough times.

Went in with cheats pains...did 4 tests timely...staff and doctors were fabulous! Out in 2 hours.

Thank you to the great staff at Kelowna General Hospital for taking great care of me (and my mom) on my date of birth, September 6, 19....uh...well it was a few decades ago. I am forever grateful!

Big fail ! My friend was admitted with heart problems that developed during a party. They did an ECG and were waiting for the results. He was drunk and they let him leave completely intoxicated to wander the street in an unknown town. He had no idea where he was and could barely talk. When I called the ER nurse station to ask what there policy is on letting people leave who are not in their right frame of mind the nurse hung up on me after saying if I was concerned I should call the police. Why didn't they have the police hold him until he was ok ? No accountability what so ever. I hope I never have to go to this hospital. They are rude and uncaring.

Peter Greene

I have been a patient of KGH for 7 years now. I have received personal attention from Ambulatory Care, Respiratory Care, bloodwork from the Lab, Digital Imaging, GI services and even Emergency (... please forgive me if have forgotten one or two). Each and every visit reinforces for me what an exceptional organization this is: regardless of department, my experience rates both technical competence and caring attitude completely off-the-charts. If Google had 6 stars, KGH would get 10!

John Thomas

Came in for surgery to the ER. The majority of the staff was excelent and attentive with exception of one Nurse named Gloria. She was rude, unpleasant and overall ruined my experience at this hospital. If you encounter this Nurse, request another one. I hope Kelowna Hospital step their training for problem employees.

I can't imagine any hospital being as bad as KGH...I had 3 operations there the first one I had to stay 3 days recovering...That was enough for me the next 2 ...I'm out of here I'd rather die at home...The mindless nurses at the stations talked loud ,laughed and giggled all night ...there is zero for caring there...

Medical Aparthied has become a reality. I have just been denied access to see my Mother because I don't have the QR code yet, not considered fully vaccinated, I forgive the young women at the front door they are just following the rules, but this is ridiculous as the government website states conditions in which proof is NOT required. tried to explain but minds are locked in on one idea. disgusted the our charter of rights and freedoms are so easily being trampled on.

Alina Dolopche

We are sitting here for the entire day. With a little kid. They don't do anything thing. He has a fever 39.7 and it took them 1 hour to bring tylenol. Like wth. He is so little only 4 months. I thought this hospital would be better then the other but no this one is the worst.

i am a 24 years old and i am admitted to this sanatorium for damaged leg, i wakened in the middle of the night shivering so I pressed the assist button a nurse named ” sheena came so i requested her for a 2 warm blankets she stated i'm going to test your blood stress first as i was on my way to do it at 2 am when i am sleeping. i stopped her 4 times and requested her to deliver the blanket first due to cold my leg would get stiff as rock every night but she continued and after bringing the second blanket, she instructed me that i was yelling at her After couple minutes she came back with another nurse to check on me for something. I got up and defined myself to her to which she and her partner told me instead that i was being unreasonable as work has to be done effectively and efficiently as it took only one second to put a cold cuff on my arm when I’m already in pain and shivering Furthermore her assistant agrees to her that it is ok as the work comes prior to patient as it’s too busy at 2 am in the morning.

Mogadishu has a better managed ER than this place.

We are so appreciative to have the Kelowna General Hospital. We recently brought our son for an angiogram, the team is so knowledgeable and helpful! Dr. Fort and team are God sent! When advised of heart problems and then to have such a great team to correct is like a new lease on life! We are so grateful to have the hospital and the team!

My daughter is visiting in Kelowna and ended up in emergency yesterday with severe left abdomen pain. She is someone who avoids dr’s and hospitals lay all costs so the fact that she was even willing to go in says how bad it was. Last night the dr’s were excellent and took her pain very seriously. They figured kidney stones, ovarian cyst or diverticulitis. She had a fever and an elevated white blood cell count. They sent her home with pain meds and booked her for an ultrasound at 10:15 this morning. Today the Dr. Says that she thinks it’s a pulled muscle (because that’s going to cause a fever and high white blood cell count). She says that the ultrasound shows swelling in her left kidney but she doesn’t want to do a CT scan because of radiation on her ovaries. So no x Ray, no ct scan and they send her home with pain meds saying it’s a pulled muscle. Crazy! It’s like today’s dr didn’t even read the labs etc from last night. If we find out it’s stones and she has any lasting issues because of this then this particular Dr is going to have some answering to do to the medical board. Last night there was not one mention of a pulled muscle.

I recently had a revised Knee Surgery two weeks ago. Found all the staff Nurses and Dr's that were involved all very friendly and helpful. One negative thing was when I came out of recovery and moved up to 4 West I feel once a person has just come out of Recovery and needs lots of rest due to there pain levels, I find there are no restrictions on Visitors to each Person who is in the Hospital. One lady across from me was having 5 -6 visitors at a time from 7 AM in the morning until 11 PM at night and also using the Patients washrooms . Which I totally disagree with. I can certainly understand we who come out of Recovery need rest and cleanliness in the Washrooms not having guests use them as there are more changes of getting infection and picking things up. I mentioned this issue to one of the Nurses and nothing was done about it. To top it off they used all the chairs for there guests and the three of us patients did not have any chairs for our visitor or visitors to use. Policy should be changed back to 2 to 3 visitors at one time especially in this ward where a person is trying to recoupe and rest and get out of there.

I am revising my previous post below. Cuz I've had treatment here the last couple of days and I realized that mostly they are trying to do good work with limited resources. Can take time but for me it's the best place to be when you really need it. There is the odd miserable person who doesn't deserve to call themselves a healthcare worker. You know who you are. But the other ones that shine always shine. Thanks for your help ugh. This hospital is just abysmal in ways. inattentive, impatient. ironically seem to have little understanding of how to deal with mental illness. Generally if this were a private business they would be done a long time ago. Absolutely swallowed up by the competition. There is a reason they have 3 stars. Every visit, there seems to be an issue. They are defensive, take everything personally and act petty. Yes I am generalizing but that seems the general tone. The whole outfit needs an entire overhaul and lesson in service and attitude. This place just makes me want to scream whenever I go. I would love to have nothing but positive to say about the place but not now. Of course the odd person stands out but tends to stand alone.

It made me think a thousand times to post this but I have to speak up cause my 3 month old baby can’t do it for herself. I had the worst experience yesterday at the outpatient laboratory department. My 3month old daughter had 9 pokes for her bloodworks but only the 4 pokes on the right sole were successful. One of the phlebotomists poked my baby's right brachial artery but couldn't find a vein. She untied the torniquet while still moving the needle hoping to extract blood.I just couldn't imagine the pain my baby had to go through. Most of the attempts done by the 2 phlebotomist were blindshots. They weren't sure if there was a good vein yet they just inserted the needle not really caring at all.My baby was really crying in pain. One of them also blamed my baby saying she had moved her foot.It was one of the the most painful thing a mother could ever experience. She also said that patients outside were complaining that two of them are dealing with a difficult patient. It's as if telling us that it's my daughter's fault that they are having a bad time. We've been to some outpatient laboratories and it wasn't that hard for them to extract blood from my baby. It's just that her pediatrician ordered some bloodworks that should only be done in the hospital. What I also noticed is that they did not apply hot pads before extracting blood like what other laboratories do especially that the patient is an infant. One of the phlebotomists named Mary ann was helpful though ,trying to comfort me and my baby She was so humble enough admitting she couldn't find a vein and couldn't do it. My baby's arms and foot are really swollen right now reminding me of what happened yesterday and it really bothers me until now.It was the most unexplainable feeling I've felt so far as being a first time mom????

I am currently under the care of one of the orthopaedic surgeons at your hospital, and every interaction - from the Emergency Department to the OR and Recovery Room staff, to Patient Registration, Fracture Clinic and Diagnostic Imaging - has been exemplary: kind, courteous, informative and accommodating. And the Coffee Shop in the lobby, staffed by your wonderful volunteers, is excellent. Thank you for your presence in our community... ATHartford (patient)

From AB and I have basically given up on all Alberta hospitals example neglective staff, rude , send you home with chest pain and no follow up exam/testing. Anyways I was on vacation in Kelowna and me and my friends were boating and hurt my hand so bad we thought it was broken, it was purple and swollen triple its size. I had to drive to the hospital while my friends returned the boat. I went with my drivers licence and that's it as I had ordered a new Alberta health card and had not received it yet. Admitting (and triage) were so incredibly nice. Mind you I have had my own city threaten to charge me in the past when I was unable to provide my physical card but was able to provide ID and the number I have written down in my phone. While waiting my friends phoned me that the boat broke down and started to sink in the middle of the Okanogen and had to get the rescue team to come so I had asked the nurse if I could go pick them up then Come back if I kept my bracelet on. The nurse took me RIGHT away into diagnostics and had the doctor look at it right away because he didn't want me to drive with one working hand. AB hospitals would have cried and moaned to take the X-ray in the first place let alone get me in right away. Needless to say very impressed with how fast and respectful this hospital was. Maybe next time I need to go to the hospital I'll take the 6 hour drive down there before stepping foot anywhere near my local healthcare.

Was supposed to be booked for an ultrasound due to extreme stomach pain that was approved by doctor and was meant to recieve a phone call when I would be scheduled that day and never recieved any call just to get told none of my information was even faxed through to ultrasound tech. and i would have to go through ER all over again because of there f*** up. Very unorganized and terrible communication.

Really bad experience in kgh hospital. Like they take 5 hours just to complete blood process . If a person is suffering from acute pain they just do calmly their wrk. After every process they ask patients to w8 for another 2 hours thn further process will be carried on . Discustinnggggg........????????.

I was admitted last week for a few issues, and from triage to streaming, to the 72 hour ward, they were amazing. I dont think people realize how much they have that they're responsible for. Not enough nurses compared to the amount of patients they're commissioned to attend. I want to say thank you , from the bottom of my heart. Everyone here made the difference. One week later I am heading home.

We have spent one week in paediatrics and will be for another two weeks. My wife, myself and our daughter are blessed by the numerous staff that we have encountered. During covid we are not allowed to help ourselves to the public kitchen so we have to ask for the nurses for literally everything. We don’t enjoy asking for so much, but we are always met with a smile and excellent attitudes. My wife was not exactly thrilled with the clothes that I had packed for her (we live a few towns over), so one person of staff went out of their way with their own money and anonymously donated clothes for her. How amazing is that? These people are passionate about their jobs, our room is cleaned constantly and our daughter is so well taken care of. They make this incredibly hard time so much easier for us. Thank you Kelowna general hospital.

Samantha Gallagher

Recently had a family member in ICU and she has had two nurses so far taking care of her. Both are so attentive and sweet. They made sure when she was sedated that she was comfortable and they would readjust her on the bed to make sure she wasn’t stuck sleeping in a position to long. So glad for all the positive care she received The Royal Bistro has friendly staff and great meal options !

Rude staff, condescending nurses. Busy chatting to each other then paying attention to anyone or anything going on. Rough with senior patients. No concern for their care. Bathrooms left without paper. Horrible hospital. Or at least the staff. It’s not like anyone wants to be there!!

I recently accompanied my Mom to emergency on Christmas Day. She has Dementia and is not very easy to communicate with sometimes. I was so impressed with how clearly and empathetically the Doctor and Nurses communicated with her. They treated her with dignity and communicated with me very clearly as well. All Patients are in a vulnerable state with any Health Care Provider, and how they communicate is crucial to making the Patient feel safe. Considering the strain on Health Care Providers due to the Pandemic, their attention to how they communicated with my Mom and me is so very appreciated. ❤

Having babies in this nicu was one of the most stressful experiences of my life. Some of the nurses are wonderful and very good at what they do.. others are not. On one occasion I had a nurse who didn't check the placement of my preemie son's feeding tube and as a result he had milk going straight into his throat. When I asked why he had milk coming out of his nose she said it was fine until I finally realized what was happening and then someone came to help. He could have aspirated or choked which could have caused serious problems for him. She then proceeded to sneeze all over the crib shortly after putting him in it. On another occasion we had a nurse who simply forgot to feed our son until we asked someone to remind her finally after waiting 45 minutes - and she confessed that she had completely forgotten (for a preemie baby regularly timed feeds are quite important). And finally, another nurse was going to pour milk out of a milk storage bag for our son's feed when I noticed chocolate smeared all over the opening of the bag. When I asked about it she confessed she had chocolate on her hands and got it on the bag.. but she didn't say anything about it until I mentioned it and asked her not to pour from it. I'm pretty sure I don't want her leftover chocolate going into my newborn's milk. That same day she was almost an hour late for two of his feeds. The worst part is after taking all of this up with the patient care coordinator I was told to basically take more time for myself - as if my concerns are unfounded - and condescendingly assured that they would try to give us the nurses we requested.. but I later found out that we were never even put on primary care and the list we made wasn't even being used. In fact, the situation got even worse after talking to the pcc about our concerns - we ended up with even less consistency. I also overheard the nurses on several occasions talking about me being there all the time - like it's strange that I would want to spend time with my own baby. Some of the nurses even told me that it's so much nicer when parents aren't there so that they can cuddle the babies - one would think a nursery would encourage a parent to spend time bonding with their child and not view it as strange or an inconvenience to the nursing staff. And this is just the nicu - in the maternity ward itself there are some of the best and some of the absolute worst nurses I've ever experienced. Unfortunately, the worst ones make it really hard to view the overall experience as anything other than horrific. We do not want to ever need to be in this hospital again. If you can - go to children's hospital in Vancouver, it is miles ahead in terms of patient care and professionalism. The doctors at KGH have been great and some of the nurses too, however.

Barry Christensen

Worst hospital I've ever had the displeasure of visiting. Staff were very rude. Wait time was horrendous. Overheard the nurse on the phone saying it wasn't busy and that she could come visit a co worker. In the real world however there were only 2 empty seats in streaming. Worth it to travel to a different city. At least the drive would be pleasant.

Pamela Paterson

I was extremely impressed with the professionalism and efficiency we experienced in the ER today. The registration clerk and physician were extremely engaged. The triage system is excellent. We presented with a minor case and were treated accordingly. (I apologized for going to the ER but there were no open Medicentres...something to consider in Kelowna to minimize unnecessary visits.) My only 2 recommendations are: 1)to ensure medical equipment, used during triage assessment, is cleaned in between each and every patient and, 2) to perform proper hand hygiene in order to prevent potential spread of infection. Thank you.

Im sick and tired of dealing with these parking meters.

The staff that dealt with my mom was awful. Refuses to give her the medication she was taking at home a certain way to keep her symptoms at bay. They treat elderly like their useless morons. If you can go to Jubilee hospital. If I could give the hospital 0 stars I would.

Random act of kindness: My daughter volunteers in KGH every Friday. She was in line up to buy an apple for her snack when a nurse bought the apple for her instead and said, " Thank you for volunteering". What an awesome nurse❤️. This nurse just taught my daughter a very important lesson in life. Hope my daughter will never forget this kindness and will do the same to others.

The heart surgery staff here are amazing . There are a couple nurses on the heart floor that were decent and compassionate. The rest have left a positive man with a negative attitude . You are literally treated like an object and your feelings don’t matter . You are like a child they just want to be seen and not heard . I am so dissapointed with the care my father received . I seen it first hand and wasn’t treated like my concerns and questions were not valid . This man has sat in his room for hours with no nurses or help and in pain . And they just throw it off as a complaining man . This mans never complained in his life . He was actually in pain . Nurses need to have compassion and listen to their patients . Instead of being on their phones on Facebook and talking about trips instead of helping patients .phones shouldn’t be allowed when caring for PEOPLE in the hospital . THEY ARE HUMANS NOT OBJECTS !!! They act all godly like and entitled teenage girls when they are questioned . I never seen such care . I never disrespected anyone and just learned to shut my mouth and take there sass .. wouldn’t put myself at their level . Sad this is what our medical system has come too . Sad world out there ...

Leon Cerankowski

My wife was so sick when we were there, throwing up and diarrhea. There were no beds for people to lay down in, all of us had to sit in these hard chairs and we were there for 6 hours. I had to pay $1169.00 before they would even see her, after we paid the money the nurse came over. In the United States you get to see nurse and doctors and then arrangements are made later, they do NOT make you pay first. There was a lab technician trying to draw blood that went thru her vein skin and came out the other side of her skin. This emergency room was disgusting and should be looked at by real medical staff. No one got a bed everyone was sitting in chairs , vomiting in bags and on the floor and no maid coming to clean in 6 hours. Very scarry, We will never go back...

Very horrible service in the daycare after surgery. Went for a scuduled surgery came out of it had no help at all from any of the nurses. Only drugged my up,started bleeding through my bandages nurses didn't do anything about. Couldn't stop throwing up with that it made it so I then had a hematoma under my incisions site, which now to be drained later date. I ended going home that night as I wasn't getting any help and cuase me more pain. I came home slept for a couple of hours and then had to call an amblance to go to the vernon hospital to find out that all the meds I was given in kelowna I was allergic to. Which no one caught that before leaving. Vernon hospital was amazing giving them 5 stars.

I find it really upsetting that you are the person of contact and the person on the other end of the phone still will not give any information!!! I find it extremely upsetting that you have someone in hospital, your already upset. And yet no compassion. I just don't get it!!!!

Extremely condescending, belittling, negligent, and all-around profoundly clueless, and dense 'nurses' and 'physicians' - all of whom absolutely thoroughly lack true insight nor problem-solving on healing, and root causes, sometimes only needlessly extremely dangerous conclusions coupling needlessly extremely dangerous consequences; it's my repeated daymares here that every student, resident, and graduate from the UBC Faculty of Medicine you've had the tragedy to assignee are propagandized into a collective zealous pro-psychiatry fundamentalism sheeple, to an extremely delusional, and extremely dangerously irrational degree. Urine samples sit unrefrigerated, piled extremely unhygienic-ally in charades in front of everyone inside an extremely unhygienic small, crammed box the entire time you're there, and guaranteed aren't even checked. Useless Papier-mâché 'vomit bowl' commodes that do not prevent the communicability nor transmission of all dangerous diseases, infections, and pathogens at all, and whatsoever, are uselessly strewed on piles in front of everyone, extremely-easily inviting the next widespread deadly outbreak and/or deadly plague. All-around extremely revolting, and absolutely unacceptable and torturous anywhere and everywhere. 'Heated' blankets from a fridge, that lose all so no-heat-at-all within a minute, if at all to begin with, might as well be strewn around. I really doubt every square millimeter here, including those barbaric hands operating all the death-chambers known as here are ever sterilized and sterilizing, and all the equipment, floors, rooms, and blankets here have ever or will ever approach even nearly adequately sterilized. No matter how often I had no choice but to go here, no exhaustive etiological testing nor investigation for cures; just an absolutely useless quota "blood sample" as a be-all and end-all. People crammed together as unhygienic-ally as the most abysmally conceivable slaughterhouse conditions. Absolutely no surface nor washroom are constantly, never thoroughly nor consistently sterilized, probably not even ever close or will be close to adequately sterilized at the bare-minimum, and the interior designs, and floor/room plans, everywhere inside these agonizing death-chambers euphemized as a 'hospital' are just absolutely even worse than abysmal in safety, functionality, and equally as nauseating. The cafeteria on the first floor are supplied with bottled smoothies and pastries only containing intolerance-triggering preservatives, additives, allergens, and sugar water. Profoundly harmed by all the extremely barbaric entirety here, euphemized as 'staff' , 'Interior Health' derogarotrized as the ' extinction of futuristic healthcare', and these barbaric death-chambers euphemized so appallingly as even a 'hospital' for permanently scarring my, and any living life, for wanting to live any mile near this city.

I am a retired nurse from Ontario and worked my whole career in Toronto hospitals and the surrounding GTA. I unfortunately have had some cardiac health problems since retiring and moving to beautiful Kelowna, BC. I have had an amazing experience with first class cardiac care at our Regional Cardiac Care unit Kelowna General. Over a period of 6-7 months (during a global pandemic) I have had a full cardiac work up just as I would have had in any Toronto teaching hospital facility. The nurses and physicians are first class and carry the highest of training, knowledge and expertise, many of which have gained their experience across Canada and the USA. I would like to thank my Electrophysiologist Dr W. Barake, my general cardiologist Dr K. Brown and the nurses (Tracy & Bal) in the Cardiac Cath Lab for their caring, professional treatment. Please be confident that if or when you need cardiac care the Interior Regional Cardiac Care Center in Kelowna BC will look after just as they would any family member. I hope that this message is shared to the people mentioned and to the hospital administrators.

My husband had surgery here and everyone who he encountered was very kind and professional.

i recently spent a full day at KGH.......from the very first person that greeted me before 6:00 am through each and every person that I came into contact with throughout the day their service, compassion and understanding was totally and completely outstanding. Absolutely horrible experience with the ER nurses at this hospital during my moms stroke. She was literally having a brain bleed stroke in the back of my car when I drove her to the hospital. They wouldn't even come out to help me get her out of the car and then yelled at me when I couldn't figure out how to use the wheelchair properly. So much unnecessary added stress.

Shauna Racich

While having THE most horrible experience, seeing my mom in excruciating pain for well over 3 hours now.. no pain meds, no doctor!!! MEANWHILE the nurses and doctors are chit chatting about the weekend and Vegas!!!!!! It's not even busy, there is no excuse for my mother to still be suffering!!!! This hospital is an absolute joke when it comes to patient "care"!!! Time to consider hiring new staff....??!! Funny how when you take the time to read the hospitals reviews there are MULTIPLE complaints about the staff chit chatting rather than doing their damn jobs!!!!!!

Cathy Tasek

My husband was on the cardiac ward for 3 days last week. We were appauled by the filth in the hospital. The cleaning staff used the same cloth to wipe tables, sinks and when we asked that they use a clean cloth to wipe my husbands table we were told "that's how we do it"My husband wouldn't use his ward bathroom as it was so dirty and the nurse told him to just go to a different room and use the bathroom there. At the nurses station when I went to ask about procedures the staff was involved in a discussion about the weekend and when I interrupted -after standing there 4-5 minutes, the nurse turned around and blew bubble gum in my face.We have been in a two Calgary hospitals and the Cranbrook hospital and never experienced such dirty rooms and such lack of caring by the staff. We had one nurse-France- he was excellent caring and concerned.

Ray Jolliffe

The slowest and rudest treatment ever.... Don't know how they help so many people if it takes 5 hours for blood work. You think they would run out of beds..Very sad the organization.

Gary Leslie

It's a hospital the staff is nice they have a coffee shop actually I think there's two great place to Walk and Walk and Walk

The saddest part about the inconsiderate malinformed ER doctors that work at KGH is that there will never be any recourse for their mishandling of issues.

Doctor in the emergency room was extremely unprofessional. Criticizing me of my life choices and making me feel very bad about myself when I went there for help with a chronic disease. He also kept giving the med student with him “looks” when I was talking and he didn’t approve of what I was saying. I’m extremely disappointed in his attitude and the care I received at Kelowna General Hospital and will not be going back.

They saved my life , the staff is incredible! Thanks

Hello Dr, Hello Nurse. Thank you, for keeping us out of the Hearse

I would like to tell everyone the service my wife has received at ICU A and ICU B, for the last 43 days. I can not believe the concern everyone shows and the care is 100%, that's the Doctors, Nurses, RT"s, Physio, the cleaners and anybody I missed. We have had many visits to KGH by our whole family and couldn't ask for better care or treatment, The Fix Family Thanks You All.

Slowest ER in Canada I would give it 0 stars if I could

We are from northern BC and my husband required a cardiologist for an angiogram / Angioplasy. The nurses, Doctor and red vest wearing volunteers were amazing, kind, informative ... I can't express how appreciative we are for their expertise. The Bistro food was terrific as was their coffee and the cheery atmopshere.

City of Kelowna and IHA planning staff should be FIRED!!! over the parking issue around the hospital. Public parking full, yet empty staff parking spot. Pathetic!!!

Roberto Garcia

Long line ups, needs more staff.

Piss poor! Made an appointment for the 24th and when we showed up it was changed to the 25th and no one bothered to say anything. Had to take 1/2 a day off work to find out it was a waste of time so now I'm going to have to do it again tomorrow. Would go somewhere else if I could but I guess that's what they count on.

Amazing experience in emergency last Sunday. The staff were all so attentive and kind. Nurses and drs went above and beyond to make sure I was heard during a crisis. Wish I could thank them so this will have to do!

There are quite a few undeserved negative reviews online concerning this hospital, however they are completely unfounded. KGH is a very large medical facility which performs a great number of procedures and surgeries - more than any other hospital in BC other than the Coast. It has a relatively large staff who are in general very understanding and friendly. The doctors and surgeons are highly trained, and the hospital performs many surgeries per year. It is also one of the few highly reccommended facilities for pancreatic surgery by the Canadian Pancreatic Cancer foundation. Kelowna General is also one of the largest medical facilities in Canada by bed count, with more than 710 beds as of June, 2015. EDIT - I also have a strong feeling that many to most of the negative reviews below were made by the same individual with an axe to grind - using different usernames. They have the same, short style with bad grammar and spelling and are all from the same time. Nobody wants to be in the hospital, and there are critical understaffing issues at most Canadian hospitals. That does not make KGH a bad hospital. In general they are competent, comforting and the nurses are relatively attentive with a good bedside manner.

Admitted to ER 6 days ago with multiple broken bones. Still waiting for surgery. Laying in room #19 Keep getting "bumped" told by nursing staff "most likely tomorrow" too many times to count. Long weekend has started and I have no faith in getting surgery in the next 4 days.

I am currently in hospital on the Covid ward. The staff have been absolutely amazing!! I have had top knotch care from everyone! I have only one complaint and that's the food. I have been unable to eat any of the meals provided and honestly I would not feed them to my dog! Nutrition for healing is vital and this hospital is lacking greatly. Fresh prepared meals using real whole foods cooked here in Kelowna, not in Vernon, then reheated in a microwave would go far toward healthy patients! Unless you have someone to bring you food you will starve. At least the nurses have been kind enough to make me toast and jam for dinner!

I recently had surgery at the Kelowna Hospital to replace a hip. My experience with the nursing services was good. There is one specific service that rates a 1 out of 10 grade and that is the food. My upbringing did not include very good quality food because we were very poor, but nothing I grew up with compared to the poor quality of this hospital's food. Most items served had no taste or flavours. I had to resort to having food brought into my room as I could not eat their served food. This major quality control issue needs attention from hospital management as there is no excuse for serving patients this poor quality food. Thank you for the opportunity to comment on my concern.

The staff went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and understood what was going. I deal with awful anxiety in hospitals and they definitely made it an alright experience . Plus, the plastic surgeon, Dr.Williamson, has done a fantastic job. I couldn't be more impressed, thank you !!

I never enjoy having to visit here but the staff is always there for you.

Spent over 8 hrs in emerg n main streaming A , everyone was helpful except for the nurse named Cheryl she was very rude she should not be in the profession and they should also check the due dates on the medication we were given meds that were past due date over a year

Monique Saebels

It took four hours to see a Dr. Did not like that they put you in a covid area with posible Covid patients if you have any simptoms. I had a stomach issue and got put there.

Good day everyone. My wife and I came into Kelowna general this morning around 545am. For her to get checked in for surgery. The staff here have been amazing and cheerful. Going about there jobs and not missing a beat. No worries about the virus just cleansing and taking care of but ess. They are a great team and I thank them all. We need to share more positive information and positive energy. Wishing you all a great day and speedy recovery. Cheers Jackson and Charlotte. She is resting now. ????????

I never write reviews... however the service that my sister just recieved was revolting and if I could give zero stars I would. My sister has a massive infection in her tooth that is causing such pain that it has caused her to throw up for 2 days. She was wanting to talk to a doctor to ensure the infection is not spreading and some medication to help her get through until she can see her dentist. She would not had been in the emergency room had she not felt that it was necessary. My sister was in the waiting room for only about 10 minutes before being moved into minor treatment - where she sat for 3 hours without help. She sat there crying in pain (if anyone has experienced an abscessed tooth - you know how painful it can be) while the doctor chatted with nurses at the desk about their personal lives. She finally walked out without a doctor even speaking with her in a room without any other patients. We will be contacting the health board tomorrow to file a formal complaint...
